Assignment #1 Sali Mallat 48031 DES360 This poster talks about how we waste our scarce resources.
This poster is made of text, images and shapes. the images are the images of the toilet seat and the
globe. The shapes are circular and the text is Waste and Water. Once these elements are integrated we
get a clear picture of what the designer is trying to convey through this poster. The message is to
create awareness of how people tend to waste resources, especially water. I believe that this poster
communicates its message successfully as the message is very clear and bold. POSTER #1: Water

Comparing Poems Dulce Et Decorum Est And
War is a dreadful way to solve an issue and it affects everyone. This paper discusses poems by Wilfred
Owen, John McCrae, and ee cummings. The poems names are Dulce Et Decorum Est , In Flanders
Fields and I sing of Olaf glad and big . The purpose of this paper is how war can ruin people s lives.
The first poet I will discuss is Wilfred Owen. The poem is called Dulce Et Decorum Est . Wilfred
Owen describes war as it makes everyone bring out the worst and inflicting pain. Evidence for this is
when the poet says, The old lie: Dulce Et Decorum Est Pro Patria Mori (39). The poet, therefore, is
telling us we need to stop fighting. Evidence for this is when the poet says His face hanging, like the
devil s sick of sin (20).

United States Involvement In The Vietnam War
In the beginning, the United States always pushed forth the idea they were becoming involved in the
war in Vietnam in order to send out aid to France, who was an ally of theirs. After the United Nations
began setting up a plan to help France, the United States suggested splitting up the Communist and
Democratic portions of Vietnam, with the communists having control over the North, while the
Kennedy administration continued to send military aid to the Southern portions of Vietnam.
In the end, the United States main objective in becoming involved in the Vietnam War was to prevent
the spread of communism in the region. After the Gulf of Tonkin incident, which occurred when North
Vietnamese patrol boats fired on an American ship that they had discovered conducting a spy mission
off the coast of North Vietnam, current United States President Johnson used the incident to eventually
get authority from Congress to send more US troops into Vietnam. Slowly over time, the anti war
sentiment against the Vietnam War continued to grow amongst the American people. Many Americans
grew confused as to why we were continuing to be involved in a war that was ... Show more content

After Nixon was elected, he redefined Vietnam policy. Referring to the policy as Vietnamization , it
called for the slow takeover of the responsibility of South Vietnam by the South Vietnamese leaders

but would continue sending troops into the region. Beginning in 1972, the United States began
withdrawing from Vietnam, until eventually all US troops were removed from the region by 1975.

The Effect Of Detector Voltages
Finally, the detector voltages were optimized to obtain the best sensitivity for target compounds. Here,
the S/N value was used to measure the effect of detector voltage on the sensitivity, because both the
peak signal and noise signal increase with detector voltage. The effect of detector voltages (1.65, 1.70,
and 1.75 kV) on several representative compounds is shown in Figure 5. With increasing voltage, the
trends of S/N values for different compounds are different, but that of each class is basically the same.
Overall, the sensitivity of nearly all the compounds decreases with increasing voltages, and with the
fact that higher voltage accelerates the aging of the detector, 1.70 kV was chosen in this study.
Screening of potential risk ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The group classification of components was then performed by the facilities of ChromaTOF software
to draw borderlines in the contour plot, better assisting overview and comparison of different samples.
The analytes in Sample #1 were roughly classified into six different groups (Figure 6): 1. PAHs, 2.
PAEs, 3. Phenolic compounds, 4. Hydrocarbons, 5. Benzene derivatives, 6. Aliphatic acids. The
outsiders are some compounds such as nitrogen containing compounds, which do not belong to the
specified groups. It is worth noting that in several cases, some compounds belonging to different
groups elute in the neighboring retention times, and thus the borderlines are not exactly correct,
especially when hundreds of components are present in the chromatogram. The peak density of each
of the assigned areas allows for a primary evaluation of the composition of each soil sample. It
appears that Sample #1 has a diverse composition with higher concentration of hydrocarbons,
aliphatic acids, PAHs and PAEs, whereas Sample #2 almost exclusively contains benzene derivatives,
phenolic compounds, and PAHs. This example confirms that the group classification is helpful to
recognize the compound classes present in the sample in greater proportion and concentration.
Based on the overview of the sample s constituents, another filter condition was added to pick out the
most abundant compounds in the soil samples. According to the

Animalism And Symbolism In The Slave By Isaac Bashevis Singer
The Slave by Isaac Bashevis Singer, follows Jacob, who became a slave in a Polish mountain village
after the Chemielnicki massacres. Jacob is critical of the Gentiles, whom he lives with, stripping away
their humanity and describing them in an animalistic manner. During this time, he keeps the ideal
image of Judaism in his mind. Jacob eventually gives into to his lustful desires for his master s
daughter, Wanda, after being unable to do so before because of his strict following of the Jewish faith.
The Jews eventually find Jacob, and he returns to his home village. His love for Wanda causes him to
return to the mountains, and the two lovers run away together. They settle in the Jewish town of Pilitz.
The rulers of the village act like faithful Christians, but in secret give in to their unfaithful, beastly
desires. The Jewish faith prevents marriage outside of the faith, so Wanda pretends to be a mute
Jewess named Sarah. The other Jewesses taunt her and describe her like an animal. Wanda is
eventually discovered after she begins to speak during childbirth. Wanda dies, leaving Jacob in the
hands of the corrupted Jews. Singer uses animalistic descriptions and symbols throughout the novel to
express how the individuality of humans causes them to stray away from popular morals or beliefs.
In the novel, characters are described in an animalistic manner that reveals the ways in which they
chose to move away from the morals that religion expects for them to follow. During his time

Examples Of Corruption In Candide
In the novella Candide , there are multiple atrocities that take place. Through satirical extremities,
Voltaire exposes the evil corruption of society. The ways Voltaire sheds light on these corruptions are
through religion, sexuality, social status, and ancestral status. The most exposed corruption would be
his matrimonial desires to his dear Cunégonde.
Candide always had his hopes set on concurring Cunégonde s love. The disapproval of her father and
brother due to Candide only having seventy one quartering is what caused a lot of Candide s setbacks.
It was on his conquests to save his love, that at every angle he hit a fork in the road. Even though
Candide had the same amount of quartering as the Baron s family heir line. This is an example

Guilt In Macbeth And Lady Macduff
Most people have, at some time in their life, felt a great sense of guilt. The emotion is an unforgiving
attitude towards oneself, that occurs when a person has violated their moral standard. Guilt can either
destroy one or catapult them into action. This profound emotion is a noteworthy theme in the tragedy,
Macbeth. It dramatically impacts the characters in the Shakespearean play; they suffer terribly because
of their senseless actions. In Shakespeare s Macbeth, Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, and Macduff suffer
from terrible guilt; however the cause of their remorse and the stages in which they deal with their
emotion differ.
Macbeth s actions cause him to inherit a great sense of remorse. However, as his personality develops,
Macbeth begins to overlook his guilt. When the thane gains ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

and visions. The hallucination of the dagger is the most significant. The dagger is the first in a series
of guilt inspired visions that the thane experiences. Despite his conscience, Macbeth goes onto
complete the crime, causing him to further enter a stage of distress. Blood, specifically Duncan s
blood, appears as another symbol of Macbeth s remorse. He believes that that there is enough blood on
his hands to turn an entire sea red. Macbeth states, Will all great Neptune s ocean wash this blood /

What Is The Yalta Conference
One of the most essential conferences that affected the world in its entirety was the Yalta Conference,
but the most important aspect of the Yalta conference were the different distinctive decisions made at
the conference. The Yalta Conference, codenamed the argonaut conference, transpired from February
4, 1945, to February 11, 1945. The occupants of the meeting were President Franklin D. Roosevelt
representing the United States, Joseph Stalin representing the Soviet Union, and British Prime
Minister Winston Churchill representing Great Britain. There were four major issues that would

First, Stalin declared that the Polish question was a question both of honor and security. Causing
countless grievances, Russia s past desire to eliminate Poland made the Polish question a question of
honor, and in the last thirty years Russia had been invaded through Poland twice due to its location
which made the Polish question a question of security. Russia concurred with Churchill, saying that
Russia wants a strong, independent and democratic Poland , most likely because building a stronger
Poland answers both the question of honor and security. Afterward, Stalin stated that the Curzon and
Clemenceau fixed the Curzon Line, not Russians; moreover, Poland s borders would much rather be
extended to the West Neisse River. Finally, Stalin outright rejected the proposal of a Polish
government; he believed that the only path to creating a Polish government was through the consent
and advice of the Polish people. Stalin s concise counterargument set the standard for the topic of the
Polish question, and his resolute stance on the Polish government and Polish boundaries would remain

The Main Strengths and Weaknesses of the Protectorate,...
The Main Strengths and Weaknesses of the Protectorate, 1653 1658
Cromwell was installed as Lord Protector in December 1653, and throughout his time as Protector,
Cromwell aimed to heal and settle the wounds of the past and to create a godly England . However, by
the end of his life the Protectorate had the support of a narrow population. Nevertheless, the
Protectorate had various strengths and weaknesses.
An evident strength of the Protectorate was the aim to achieve a civilian based government as shown
in Source 3, where Cromwell did attempt to make parliament representative as well as to give
Parliament a genuine role in the constitution . The system of government was fairly stable, ... Show

The National Church was aimed at saving the people of England, it was able to guide and teach
people, thus reform manners and behaviour. In addition, the system of Triers and Ejectors set up in
1654 was effective as local commissioners had the power to expel ministers of low standards. But, this
did not mean that form of worship was determined from the Church, each individual congregation was
able to worship in their own personal way. The Major Generals in 1657 did advance godly reformation
to a certain extent, as many districts did become godly, however this did highly depend on the
enthusiasm of the Major General, as demonstrated by Major General Worsley in Lancashire, who was
able to close over 200 alehouses. This suggests that systems of law and order were enforced , so there
was a deal of progress made .
Although there were disagreements over the army in politics, it is evident that the army were
successful in suppressing rebellions as reflected in the crushing of Penruddock s rising in 1655.
Cromwell introduced the Major Generals, who were successful in maintaining security, promoting
godliness and reduced the size and cost of the standing army. In addition, the Protectorate was
successful in foreign policy, although England failed in the Western Design, they capture

Merit-Based Appraisal
Should colleges continue to award merit based aid or only award need based aid?
As I reading Ch. 10 I found myself going back and forth on this topic. Merit based is great because
those who work really hard in high school and show the discipline to put their future before video
games, or just hanging out all with friends all of the time deserve the opportunity to go to college. And
with the rising cost of some of these institutions, even if they are considered middle class or higher,
they may not be able to afford it. Not everyone s parents agree with what career choice they make
which leads to these kids striking it out on their own.

Slavery In Colonial Latin America
The institution of slavery was a big part of life in colonial Latin America. According Henry Louis
Gates, Jr., 11.2 million slaves were imported to the Americas from Africa between 1502 and 1866.
Most of the slaves were transported to the Caribbean and Latin America. In fact, Brazil got a total of
about 4.8 million slaves (Black in LA). The working and living conditions for slaves were horrific. So
many slaves were imported specifically because slaves were expendable. Slave holders could afford to
undernourish their slaves due to the slave market. Slaves were in high demand in colonial Latin
America. Some slaves resisted their enslavement by running away to form quilombos, or maroon
communities. According to Thomas Gage, cimarrones, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Covenant In Judaism
The covenant is central to the expression of Judaism and the identity of the Jewish people.
In Judaism the covenant is considered to be an extremely and is a central characteristic that is carried
out by Jewish adherents as they rely heavily on them and ensure that they are followed throughout
their lifetime. The covenant is essentially a reciprocal relationship between God and the people of
Israel established in Abraham s time. However, it continued to pass on down from Abraham to Moses
and is still recognised in Judaism. The covenant is important and is still upheld today, as it allows
Jewish adherents to maintain a close relationship with God, which is enhanced through Jewish sacred
texts, rituals, ethical values and beliefs.

For instance, the Shabbat is a great example of a ritual that has been kept by adherents from the very
early times till today. The Shabbat is also known as the Sabbath and is vital for Jews to keep holy due
to the fourth mitzvot Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy (Exodus 20:8) given to Moses on
Mount Sinai. Therefore, since it is part of the Decalogue that was given to Moses on through God
himself, it is extremely important for Jewish adherents to continuously uphold this covenant and in
order to maintain the reciprocal relationship with God, as he freed them from slavery. In addition,
Jews also undergo the ritual of Brit Milah as a sign of the covenant that has been formed with God, in
the Torah. Brit Milah is often performed on males only (however some cultures may perform it on
females as well) on the child s eighth day of life (Rich, 2011). Brit Milah is essentially a physical
indication of adherents upholding covenant and drawing themselves closer to God, if under any
circumstances a man does not undergo the practice of Brit Milah on his son, the son must undergo this
ritual as an adult, otherwise the individual experiences what is known as spiritual isolation or
withdrawal (Rich, 2011). Not only that, but also in the olden times, it was a necessity that the Jews
were to pray a small prayer prior to each meal they consumed; the prayer translates to Blessed are you
O Lord our God, King of the universe, who brings forth bread from the earth (Awaad, 2014). This
ritual has been practiced for several generations and passed down, till this day the Jewish adherents
recite this prayer. Occasionally, this prayer may be replaced with a song (Jewish Worship, 2015).
Reformed Jews may recite these prayers in Hebrew as they generally obtain prayer books in Hebrew,
allowing all Jews to bind together feel connected to God as, the covenant itself was delivered by God

Choosing The Correct Replacement For An Aged Roof
Choosing the correct replacement for an aged roof or identifying the best choice for a new building is
no easy task. The perfect roofing solution for one building may be the worst option for another just
down the street. That s because no two buildings are precisely alike, even if they closely resemble
each other. So how do you choose a new roof, given all the choices in the marketplace? You can start
by asking a series of questions, before you choose the roof, the roofing contractor or the manufacturer.
1. What is this building s mission statement?
Before calls are made to roofing contractors or manufacturers, the first item to address is the company
s mission statement as it relates to the building.
Whether you are building new facilities or managing existing properties, you want to be confident that
the roofing systems you select deliver the performance you expect. More often than not, the building
itself dictates the appropriate roofing system specification.
You need to know as much about the building and its future as possible. Does the company plan to
keep this building as part of its real estate assets for the next 10 to 20 years? Are there any plans to
expand it in the near future, or to change its use? What are its current and future occupancy, insulation
requirements, aesthetic priorities and even the maintenance schedules for rooftop equipment?
These and other mission statement issues will help shape answers to types of roofing to consider and
how much

Analysis of acid by titration with sodium hydroxide
Ms. Hoang
November 2012
Introduction: The purpose of this experiment is to demonstrate an example of how to determine the
unknown molarity of hydrochloric acid by titration with a base (sodium hydroxide). Titration is a
common laboratory method of quantitative chemical analysis that is used to determine the unknown
concentration of an identified analyte (wekipedia). The first step will be measuring and combining
water and acid (Hydrochloric acid). An indicator anthocyanin will be added to the solution to change
the color to pink. Anthocyanin is a water soluble vacuolar pigment that may appear red, purple, or
blue depending on the pH ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During this experiment after adding enough sodium hydroxide to the indicator solution; the solution
changed color to blue, an indication of the stoichiometric end point. All three trials showed the proper
color change. This proved that the color change indicated that the pH level had changed in solution
and the amount of base added is chemically equivalent to the acid in the flask. The formula
M1xV1=M2xV2 was used to calculate the unknown concentration of hydrochloric acid. The results
from the trials showed that the concentration of hydrochloric acid was 0.2M. The concentration of the
two acids should be relatively close in order to cancel each other out. It was complicated to compare
the two concentrations since the given molarity of sodium hydroxide is in the one decimal place
holder, whereas the calculated concentration for hydrochloric acid is in a two decimal place. From the
lab it can be concluded that pH indicators can be an imprecise method to calculate the concentration of
an unknown concentration.

The House On A Rainy Day And Lucy
Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy Pevensie are four siblings sent to live in the country with the
eccentric Professor Kirke during World War II. The children explore the house on a rainy day and
Lucy, the youngest, finds an enormous wardrobe. Lucy steps inside and finds herself in a strange,
snowy wood. Lucy encounters the Faun Tumnus, who is surprised to meet a human girl. Tumnus tells
Lucy that she has entered Narnia, a different world. Tumnus invites Lucy to tea, and she accepts. Lucy
and Tumnus have a wonderful tea, but the faun bursts into tears and confesses that he is a servant of
the evil White Witch. The Witch has enchanted Narnia so that it is always winter and never Christmas.
Tumnus explains that he has been enlisted to capture human beings. Lucy implores Tumnus to release
her, and he agrees.
Lucy exits Narnia and eagerly tells her siblings about her adventure in the wardrobe. They do not
believe her, however. Lucy s siblings insist that Lucy was only gone for seconds and not for hours as
she claims. When the Pevensie children look in the back of the wardrobe they see that it is an ordinary
piece of furniture. Edmund teases Lucy mercilessly about her imaginary country until one day when
he sees her vanishing into the wardrobe. Edmund follows Lucy and finds himself in Narnia as well.
He does not see Lucy, and instead meets the White Witch that Tumnus told Lucy about. The Witch

Impressionism takes the moment at hand and depicts it with light and color. George Seurat was
influenced by Impressionism using modern subjects and urban leisure scenes. He used color

capture all the colors that interacted to make their own appearance which differed in thought to
Impressionism of putting colors next to each other to create colors that blended optically. Seurat
helped move Impressionism into Post Impressionism by developing a systematic structured way of

The way the sun pours down on the people, the rest of the canvas basks in the sun whereas the
shadows are a darker green hue on the lighter green grass. The way the sun is portrayed, it looks as if
it s mid afternoon. Seurat s pointillism shows the light coming from the left onto the people and
objects. The trees show the special blending effects of the colors. To the left of the painting, the use of
white creates a light and as the eye moves to the right, it blends into the color of the greens of the
trees. Here, Seurat is placing white and green next to each other. The brushwork of the painting is
dotlike with the dots varying in size and shape. These individuals dots blend together into one scene.
The painting s perspective is to the left with the people all looking that way toward the river. The
people in the front of the painting are closer to the eye. The woman in the front and that man walking
with her are the biggest figures in the picture. These sizes help balance the artwork. Lines were mostly
avoided with the use of shading for a softer effect.
Seurat s painting is one of the most reproduced paintings. Initially, pointillism was not received well
as this new painting style was like nothing else and the general public did not receive it well. A
Sunday on La Grande Jatte was the first painting to be painted entirely in pointillism which changed
the way art was viewed from Impressionism to Post

Mystery, Irony, and Imagery in The Cask of Amontillado Essay
Missing items from Works Cited Mystery, Irony, and Imagery in The Cask of Amontillado The Cask
of Amontillado is one of Edgar Allan Poe s greatest stories. In this story Poe introduces two central
characters and unfolds a tale of horror and perversion. Montresor, the narrator, and Fortunato, one of
Montresor s friends, are doomed to the fate of their actions and will pay the price for their pride and
jealousy. One pays the price with his life and the other pays the price with living with regret for the

William Doxey believes, we are told from the beginning that Fortunato s weakness is his pride in his
connoisseurship in wine. It is his pride that hooks him (266). Both Marie Bonaparte and William
Doxey believe that it is Fortunato s weakness for wine that gets him in trouble. Montresor also
mentions his rival at wines, As you are engaged, I am on my way to Luchesi. If anyone has a critical
turn it is he (150). When asked about his cough, Fortunato replies, not with courtesy, but with prideful
determination: Let us go never the less (Doxey 266). Very often a man s prideful remarks or decisions
can get the best of him. It seems that Fortunato could not let himself be outdone. There is the theory of
perversity that Montresor tried to use to get Fortunato down into the vaults. J. Rea explains, A part of
Poe s theory of perversity is that we want to hurt or kill or to bury alive someone because he has been
good to us. It is an unbelievable desire (59). She also believes, Montresor inaccurately measures
Fortunato s intellect and succeeds in his plan only through the accident of the similarity of perversity

Case Study Of The Fall Of Enron Corporation
This report aims at overviewing the case study regarding the fall of Enron Corporation. It is a business
proposal to senior management aimed at identifying the factors and practices which led to the failure
of respective organization.
History of Enron Corporation
Enron Corporation was established in 1985, by Kenneth Lay as a result of a merger between the
natural gas pipeline companies of Houston Natural Gas and InterNorth (Healy and Palepu, 2016).
Later, it expanded into 1,800 more products or contracts and thirteen currencies (which included
bandwidth, paper and pulp, and contracts such as weather and credit derivatives), a majority of them
were not subjected to the regulatory oversight of the United States Commodity Futures Trading
Commission (CFTC) (Dembinski et al., 2006).
By 1992, Enron had become the largest seller of natural gas in North America. As recorded on
December 31, 2000, Enron s stock was priced at $83.13, and its market capitalization exceeded $60
billion. Enron was rated the most innovative large company ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Owing to its expansive trading activities, Enron required to give considerable importance to its credit
ratings as it tend to determine its financial costs and the willingness of its counter parties to trade with
it. A favorable earnings picture and and the avoidance to excessive leverage on Enron s balance sheet
was perceived by its management as essential to maintain the firms credit ratings. The means used to
achieve these objectives involved extraordinary departures from transparency which affected the firm
s relations with investors, creditors, its own Board of Directors and stakeholders of the company

The Committee For The Equity Funding Among Other Scandals
There were other developments that ensued. These included the designation of the Cohen Commission
to the Equity Funding among other scandals. Moreover, there was the institution of a SEC Practice
Section and a Private Companies Practice Section that was tasked to do peer review and quality
review. The promulgation of SEC s Accounting Series Release 250 that required corporations to report
to the ratio of non audit to audit fees was also one of the developments. Finally, there was the issuance
of SSARs No. 1 that described assessment and compilation and stipulated the form of reports that
were to be submitted. 1980 s to 1990 s In collaboration with the National Association of State Boards
of Accountancy, the AICPA published the first bill that would standardize the public accounting
practice. This was legislated in the Uniform Accountancy Act. Moreover, the Restructuring
Professional Standards to Achieve Professional Excellence in a Changing Environment was issued by
the Anderson Committee as a reply to concerns regarding the profession s competence to serve the
public interest and maintain their trust. In the mid1980s, the National Commission on Fraudulent
Financial Reporting or the Treadway Commission detailed how financial frauds could be curtailed or
prevented and how auditors could minimize the expectations gap amongst themselves and the public.
In addition, the peer review program became compulsory, as instructed by AICPA. Meanwhile, the

Personal Perception of Organized Crime
Personal Perception of Organized Crime In answering this question of what Angie s personal
perception of organized crime, it takes me back to the days of organized groups that united for
financial gain, control over business, law enforcement, the public and anyone or anything that they
could rule. Organized crime brings about change in a community, hurt, danger, and sometimes death.
When thinking of organized crime it takes us back to the days of the Mafia. The days of Al Capone
comes to mind more then any other organized criminal. This gave a perception as to what organized
crime consists of and this is how viewed. The alien conspiracy theory posits that organized crime (the
Mafia) gained prominence during the 1860s in Sicily and that ... Show more content on

A more specific criminological definition would refer to groups that (1) utilize violence or threats of
violence, (2) provide illicit goods that are in public demand, and (3) assure immunity for their
operators through corruption and enforcement. (Hagan, 2010: 300)
Conclusion
Thus, the organized criminal activity becomes transnational if it is connected to illegal operations on
moving material and non material means through frontiers, which bring an essential economic gain.
The transnational organized crime uses the favorable market conditions of other states, significant
distinctions in systems of criminal justice of the different countries, and penetration into their legal
economy with the help of corruption and violence (Zorin, 2009). In researching on this issue, the
conclusion that has arrived is as long as we live, we will always have organized crime. However, if we
do not participate in these acts it ill not prosper.

The Productivity And Flexibility Of The Labor Market
The efficiency and flexibility of the labor market are critical for ensuring that workers are allocated to
their most effective. In Dubai hires skilled foreign workers mostly from South East Asia to fulfill its
needs. Labor markets must therefore have the flexibility to shift workers from one economic activity
to another. In today s globalized world, technology is increasingly essential for firms to compete and
prosper. The technological readiness measures the agility with which an economy adopts existing
technologies to enhance the productivity of its industries, with specific emphasis on its capacity to
fully leverage information and communication technologies. The size of the market affects
productivity since large markets allow firms to exploit economies of scale. Traditionally, the markets
available to firms have been constrained by national borders. In the era of globalization, international
markets have become a substitute for domestic markets, especially for small countries. There is no
doubt that sophisticated business practices are conducive to higher efficiency in the production of
goods and services. Business sophistication concerns two elements that are intricately linked.
Innovation can emerge from new technological and non technological knowledge. Non technological
innovations are closely related to the know how, skills, and working conditions that are embedded in
organizations. Although all the above said characteristics of competitive advantage sound

Socrates Was A Greek Philosopher And The Main Source Of...
Socrates was a Greek philosopher and the main source of Western thought. He was born circa 470 BC,
in Athens, Greece and also through the writings of his students, Plato and Xenophon we of his life.
Socrates was the son of Sophroniscus, an Athenian sculptor and stone maker, and Phaenarete, a
midwife. Because he was not from a superior family, he got a basic Greek education and learned his
father s craft at a young age. Before Socrates devoted his life to philosophy, it is believed he worked
as a mason for many years. Socrates married Xanthippe, a younger woman and they had three sons
Lamprocles, Sophroniscus and Menexenus. Furthermore, the Athenian law required all able bodied
males serve as citizen soldiers for duty from ages 18 until they were 60. According to Plato, Socrates
served in the armoured infantry known as the hoplite with shield, face mask and long spear. He
participated in three military campaigns during the Peloponnesian War, at Delium, and Potidaea,
Amphipolis where he saved the life of Alcibiades, a popular Athenian general. A trait that stayed with
him throughout his life was his courage in battle and fearlessness. After his trial, he compared his
refusal to retreat from his legal troubles to a soldier s refusal to retreat from battle when threatened
with death. Plato s Symposium provides the best details of Socrates s physical appearance, saying that
he was not the ideal of Athenian masculinity. Short and stocky, with a snub nose and bulging eyes,

Buddhism and No-Self Essay
Eastern enlightenment religions have been gaining popularity throughout the western world for the
past few decades, with many people attracted to a different way of experiencing religion. As with
many other enlightenment religions, Buddhism requires disciples to understand concepts that are not
readily explainable: one such concept is that of no self. In this essay I shall discuss the no self from a
number of modern perspectives; however, as no self is difficult to describe I shall focus on both the
self and no self. Beginning with psychological aspects, and neurophysiological research on
transcendental meditation, I shall discuss the impact of modern brain science on our understanding of
the self and transcendence. Next I will outline ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Modern psychology attempts to scientifically explain many aspects of our lives. Yet it seems that
when psychology meets religion the result is rarely a fair compromise. As an example, if faced with a
person claiming to have no sense of self a psychologist may suspect some form of dissociative
disorder. An excellent modern example of spiritualism clashing with psychological diagnoses is that of
the much maligned Aleister Crowley; after years of searching for his own samyaksambodhi he entered
into a period of silence and claimed enlightenment – the psychological description of Crowley is that
of a paranoid schizophrenic who declined into catatonia. I simply wonder where the line is that divides
the religious experience from the psychopathological.
Neurophysiologists have shown interest in that state of no self that Buddhist monks can reach while in
prayer. It has been found, using a specialized brain imaging technique based on CT scanning, that the
brain state of Buddhist monks in deep meditation is radically different from that of the average waking
person (Newberg et al., 2001). In fact, during meditation the body changes its physiological ‘state to
a more beneficial pattern (Weiten, 2005, p. 145). This is not to say that Buddhism is the path – similar
brain patterns have also been found in Franciscan Nuns deep in prayer. Interesting work has also been
done researching the effect of electromagnetic interference on brain function. Researchers

The Motivation Of Girl Scouts In High School

eligible girls earn it. To me personally, the hardest part of receiving this award, was deciding what I
was going to do. Several ideas came to my mind, but I decided to call the Ruthe B. Cowl

The Power of the Sky Goddess Nut In Egyptian Mythology (Outline)
ABSTRACT
On the ceiling of the Hypostyle Hall in the Temple of Hathor are seven bands of astronomical figures
showing the Romans signs of the zodiac, vultures and winged sun disks. Stretching over these painted
raised reliefs is a depiction of the sky goddess Nut, the mother of Osiris, Isis, Nephthys, Horus and
Seth. Nut was depicted as the sky. She takes on the role of mother to the stars and the sun, swallowing
the sun god each night and giving birth to the sun each day, thus controlling the passage of time. Nut
also controlled the passage of the deceased between life and death. Her important role was often

She was separated from Nut by Shu to give order to the universe. This is illustrated in tomb paintings,
which show her body arched over the Earth as her father Shu supports her with upraised arms.
She gave birth to Isis, Osiris, Nephthys, Seth and Horus.
NUT AND THE SUN GOD:
As described in pyramid texts, Nut controls the rising and setting of the sun. She gives birth to the sun
god Ra each day, causing the sun to rise into the sky. When the sun sets, Nut is swallowing the Re
until the next morning, when she will give birth to him again.
II. THE FUNCTION OF NUT IN EGYPTIAN ART
NUT AS THE BEARER OF THE GODS:
Nut is described as bearer of the gods. She plays an important role as mother of the king by giving the
king safe passage into the afterlife where he may then achieve life among the gods.
NUT AS THE KEEPER OF TIME:
Nut was known to be the keeper of time as she bears the sun daily and controls the seasonal movement
of the sun. She is shown in the Dendera temple next to the Dendera zodiac. Her body is also depicted
as a celestial map in earlier paintings of coffin lids. This showed Nut s powerful control over the
movements of constellations, thus showing that her presence is vital to the passage of time.
Other texts indicate Nut s reunification with Geb is what causes

The Affordable Care Act Of 2010 Essay
Introduction President Barack Obama put the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in place in 2010 and it has
been utilized since. Obama says, the Affordable Care Act has made significant progress toward
solving long standing challenges facing the U.S. health care system related to access, affordability and
quality of care (2016). Therefore, the Affordable Care Act of 2010 has been a working progress
towards upholding the iron triangle of healthcare, which is cost, quality, and access. During the current
election, healthcare reform has been a rousing topic that has raised a lot of support for the candidates
and also concern for their future plans. For healthcare administrators, this is important so they can
strategically start planning for the election results because the effects on healthcare will be major and
will not be able to happen overnight. Hillary Clinton plans to simply modify the Affordable Care Act
and add a public option; while on the other hand, Donald Trump wants to abolish the Affordable Care
Act entirely and replace it with a health savings account and a high deductible and high premium
driven system (HDHP). Both of these possibilities affect healthcare and the iron triangle, but they
affect the triangle in different ways, which is important for healthcare administrators to prepare for.
Financial Implications Trump and Clinton s financial implications differ due to what they each want to
accomplish. Clinton states that she wants to control health care costs so

Sociological Imagination In The Military
The sociological imagination is to think of society from a different perspective and as an individual to
take a step back and think how a situation affects the bigger picture. One of the biggest concerns in
today s military is fear of retaliation from supervisors after an individual reports sexual assault. Within
the U.S. Military there have been policies put in place such as the whistleblower protection act, but as
we all know when there comes change individuals refuse to comply. Civilians expect that U.S.
Military members act in a more professional manner due to the higher standards then the general
population.
To start off there is absolutely no protection for members who have been sexually assaulted. Just like
any other civilian, service members have a job to go to and perform. Service members are evaluated
based on their job performance, the last concern they need to be worried about is fear of going to work
and being scrutinized by their peers including their boss. Victims that experience sexual assault are
more likely to be discharged from the military than their assailants. ... Show more content on

Occupational Psychology Case Study
Industrial organizational psychology is a field of psychology concerned with the application of
psychological theories and doctrine to organizations. This field concentrates on improving workplace
output and interrelated issues such as the mental and physical welfare of employees. Experts in the
industrial organizational field offer a wide variety of services including investigating worker attitudes
and conduct, assessing companies, and perform leadership training exercises. The overall objective of
this discipline is to investigate and comprehend human behavior in the office. Occupational issues
bear great significance to psychologists, given that most employees spend the majority of their adult
lives working in offices. Work acts as the defining factor for all human beings making it an important
subject to study (Avsec, 2010: Weinberg, Sutherland, Cooper, Palgrave Connect, 2010). Other related
issues that are of interest to psychologists include correlating between the right job and individual
character set and discovering new methods of lowering workplace stress.

The Interrelationship Between The Overcoat And Gogol
The interrelationship between The Overcoat, written by Nikolai Gogol, and Gogol, written by Jhumpa
Lahiri, may not be apparent at first, but with the help of My Two Lives, also written by Jhumpa Lahiri,
one can see that both The Overcoat and Gogol are connected by ties that hold them together. Although
Gogol and the speaker in My Two Lives share similar backgrounds and can directly relate to each
other, Akaky can also connect to Lahiri and Gogol because all they all yearn for acceptance from those
around them. One point of comparison is the practice of naming connects Akaky, from The Overcoat ,
and Gogol together by having similar practices. Another similarity between all three works is that each
main character questions their identity, eventually overcoming their struggle of being seen as different.
Both Akaky Akakiyevich, and Gogol Ganguli live in cultures where their names have substantial
meaning. Although the way that a person is named differs from culture to culture, the naming process
has similar characteristics. Readers can infer from both The Overcoat and Gogol that names in
Russian and Bengali have significant meaning and helps shape who the person is when they grow
older. However, one thing that varies greatly between these two cultures is when they are named and
how many names they have. In Russian culture, the name is picked after the baby is born, in which the

The Calling Of St. Matthew Essay
In the early 1620 s, Gian Lorenzo Bernini was commissioned to create a sculpture inspired by a
passage in Ovid s Metamorphosis. It is said that Apollo insults Cupid, who in return shoots him with
an arrow of gold. Apollo is overcome with immense desires of love towards Daphne, but to his dismay
she is hit with a dull arrow made of lead, which causes her to abhor such feelings of love. Apollo
chases her relentlessly until she cries out in prayer to her father, the river god. Her father grants her
wish and turns her into a Laurel tree right before Apollo is able to grab her. The myth of Apollo and
Daphne is one of tragedy because of the hopeless chase that defines Apollo s fate.
Through his use of movement and emotion, Bernini is able to capture ... Show more content on

Matthew
San Luigi dei Francesi, Rome
Located in the Contarelli Chapel, this oil on canvas is one of three by Caravaggio that depict an event
in Matthew s life. In the gospel of Mark, the story of Jesus calling Levi (who later becomes Matthew)
is short and simple, but Caravaggio s interpretation contains much richer detail.
In The Calling of St. Matthew, the event seems to take place behind a sketchy tavern where tax
collectors greedily count money they have extorted from the community. Three of the tax collectors
are painted in fancy clothing with weapons, while an older Matthew can be spotted with another older
man peeking over his shoulder. Christ shows up on the right of the painting with Saint Peter and points
in Matthew s direction. Peter in disbelief can be seen pointing at himself wondering if Jesus is
referring to him.
If one looks closely, Jesus hand is a mirrored image of Adam s hand from Michelangelo s The creation
of Adam on the Sistine Chapel ceiling. Adam is known as the one who causes the fall of humankind,
while Christ is the one who redeems mankind. Jesus arm is extended behind Saint Peter, which can be
seen as a reminder that the call of Christ is mediated through the church. It is also interesting that
light, similar to a spotlight, is shining right over Jesus head and onto St. Matthew. It is also shining
directly on the window, which contains the symbol of a

1.1 INTRODUCTION
Resistance training has become one of most popular physical activities for increasing muscular
strength, endurance, hypertrophy and muscular power (American College of Sports Medicine, 2002).
Resistance training can be done either in the gymnasium or outside the gymnasium using the weight,
barbell, dumbbell, machine exercise, fit ball or body weight using the variables that needed. When
designing resistance training programs, many variables such as intensity, volume, frequency,
repetition, and velocity and rest interval must be considered as all these variable can be manipulated to

As resistance training become more popular there are also has more people that injured during
involved in resistance training because of some variable in resistance training that they did not applied
for example they did high of intensity and volume in order to increase their muscle strength but the
rest interval that they using is not suitable and can cause their result in resistance training become in
efficient. Mistake in applying the rest interval in any resistance training program could theoretically
result in overtraining syndrome. Robinson, stone, Johnson, Penland, Warren and Lewis (1995) stated
in their study that, the 3 minute rest interval led to greater strength increase because of the ability to
maintain a higher training intensity and it demonstrated that greater muscular recovery via longer rest
interval between sets is the key to greater strength increases. If the training goal is maximal strength
development, sufficient of rest interval between sets must be included in the resistance training to get

The poems names are Dulce Et Decorum Est , In Flanders Fields and I sing of Olaf glad and big . The purpose of this paper is how war can ruin people s lives. The first poet I will discuss is Wilfred Owen. The poem is called Dulce Et Decorum Est . Wilfred Owen describes war as it makes everyone bring out the worst and inflicting pain. Evidence for this is when the poet says, The old lie: Dulce Et Decorum Est Pro Patria Mori (39). The poet, therefore, is telling us we need to stop fighting. Evidence for this is when the poet says His face hanging, like the devil s sick of sin (20). The second ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

United States Involvement In The Vietnam War In the beginning, the United States always pushed forth the idea they were becoming involved in the war in Vietnam in order to send out aid to France, who was an ally of theirs. After the United Nations began setting up a plan to help France, the United States suggested splitting up the Communist and Democratic portions of Vietnam, with the communists having control over the North, while the Kennedy administration continued to send military aid to the Southern portions of Vietnam. In the end, the United States main objective in becoming involved in the Vietnam War was to prevent the spread of communism in the region. After the Gulf of Tonkin incident, which occurred when North Vietnamese patrol boats fired on an American ship that they had discovered conducting a spy mission off the coast of North Vietnam, current United States President Johnson used the incident to eventually get authority from Congress to send more US troops into Vietnam. Slowly over time, the anti war sentiment against the Vietnam War continued to grow amongst the American people. • 5. The Effect Of Detector Voltages Finally, the detector voltages were optimized to obtain the best sensitivity for target compounds. Here, the S/N value was used to measure the effect of detector voltage on the sensitivity, because both the peak signal and noise signal increase with detector voltage. The effect of detector voltages (1.65, 1.70, and 1.75 kV) on several representative compounds is shown in Figure 5. With increasing voltage, the trends of S/N values for different compounds are different, but that of each class is basically the same. Overall, the sensitivity of nearly all the compounds decreases with increasing voltages, and with the fact that higher voltage accelerates the aging of the detector, 1.70 kV was chosen in this study. The group classification of components was then performed by the facilities of ChromaTOF software to draw borderlines in the contour plot, better assisting overview and comparison of different samples. The analytes in Sample #1 were roughly classified into six different groups (Figure 6): 1. PAHs, 2. PAEs, 3. Phenolic compounds, 4. Hydrocarbons, 5. Benzene derivatives, 6. Aliphatic acids. The outsiders are some compounds such as nitrogen containing compounds, which do not belong to the specified groups. It is worth noting that in several cases, some compounds belonging to different groups elute in the neighboring retention times, and thus the borderlines are not exactly correct, especially when hundreds of components are present in the chromatogram. The peak density of each of the assigned areas allows for a primary evaluation of the composition of each soil sample. It appears that Sample #1 has a diverse composition with higher concentration of hydrocarbons, aliphatic acids, PAHs and PAEs, whereas Sample #2 almost exclusively contains benzene derivatives, phenolic compounds, and PAHs. This example confirms that the group classification is helpful to recognize the compound classes present in the sample in greater proportion and concentration. • 6. Animalism And Symbolism In The Slave By Isaac Bashevis Singer The Slave by Isaac Bashevis Singer, follows Jacob, who became a slave in a Polish mountain village after the Chemielnicki massacres. Jacob is critical of the Gentiles, whom he lives with, stripping away their humanity and describing them in an animalistic manner. During this time, he keeps the ideal image of Judaism in his mind. Jacob eventually gives into to his lustful desires for his master s daughter, Wanda, after being unable to do so before because of his strict following of the Jewish faith. The Jews eventually find Jacob, and he returns to his home village. His love for Wanda causes him to return to the mountains, and the two lovers run away together. They settle in the Jewish town of Pilitz. The rulers of the village act like faithful Christians, but in secret give in to their unfaithful, beastly desires. The Jewish faith prevents marriage outside of the faith, so Wanda pretends to be a mute Jewess named Sarah. The other Jewesses taunt her and describe her like an animal. Wanda is eventually discovered after she begins to speak during childbirth. Wanda dies, leaving Jacob in the hands of the corrupted Jews. Singer uses animalistic descriptions and symbols throughout the novel to express how the individuality of humans causes them to stray away from popular morals or beliefs. In the novel, characters are described in an animalistic manner that reveals the ways in which they chose to move away from the morals that religion expects for them to follow. During his time ... The ways Voltaire sheds light on these corruptions are through religion, sexuality, social status, and ancestral status. The disapproval of her father and brother due to Candide only having seventy one quartering is what caused a lot of Candide s setbacks. • 8. Guilt In Macbeth And Lady Macduff Most people have, at some time in their life, felt a great sense of guilt. The emotion is an unforgiving attitude towards oneself, that occurs when a person has violated their moral standard. Guilt can either destroy one or catapult them into action. This profound emotion is a noteworthy theme in the tragedy, Macbeth. It dramatically impacts the characters in the Shakespearean play; they suffer terribly because of their senseless actions. In Shakespeare s Macbeth, Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, and Macduff suffer from terrible guilt; however the cause of their remorse and the stages in which they deal with their emotion differ. Therefore, since it is part of the Decalogue that was given to Moses on through God himself, it is extremely important for Jewish adherents to continuously uphold this covenant and in order to maintain the reciprocal relationship with God, as he freed them from slavery. In addition, Jews also undergo the ritual of Brit Milah as a sign of the covenant that has been formed with God, in the Torah. Brit Milah is often performed on males only (however some cultures may perform it on females as well) on the child s eighth day of life (Rich, 2011). Brit Milah is essentially a physical indication of adherents upholding covenant and drawing themselves closer to God, if under any circumstances a man does not undergo the practice of Brit Milah on his son, the son must undergo this ritual as an adult, otherwise the individual experiences what is known as spiritual isolation or withdrawal (Rich, 2011). This ritual has been practiced for several generations and passed down, till this day the Jewish adherents recite this prayer. During this experiment after adding enough sodium hydroxide to the indicator solution; the solution changed color to blue, an indication of the stoichiometric end point. All three trials showed the proper color change. This proved that the color change indicated that the pH level had changed in solution and the amount of base added is chemically equivalent to the acid in the flask. The formula M1xV1=M2xV2 was used to calculate the unknown concentration of hydrochloric acid. The results from the trials showed that the concentration of hydrochloric acid was 0.2M. The concentration of the two acids should be relatively close in order to cancel each other out. It was complicated to compare the two concentrations since the given molarity of sodium hydroxide is in the one decimal place holder, whereas the calculated concentration for hydrochloric acid is in a two decimal place. • 26. The Productivity And Flexibility Of The Labor Market The efficiency and flexibility of the labor market are critical for ensuring that workers are allocated to their most effective. In Dubai hires skilled foreign workers mostly from South East Asia to fulfill its needs. Labor markets must therefore have the flexibility to shift workers from one economic activity to another. In today s globalized world, technology is increasingly essential for firms to compete and prosper. The technological readiness measures the agility with which an economy adopts existing technologies to enhance the productivity of its industries, with specific emphasis on its capacity to fully leverage information and communication technologies. The size of the market affects productivity since large markets allow firms to exploit economies of scale. Traditionally, the markets available to firms have been constrained by national borders. In the era of globalization, international markets have become a substitute for domestic markets, especially for small countries. There is no doubt that sophisticated business practices are conducive to higher efficiency in the production of goods and services. Business sophistication concerns two elements that are intricately linked. Innovation can emerge from new technological and non technological knowledge. Non technological innovations are closely related to the know how, skills, and working conditions that are embedded in organizations. • 27. Socrates Was A Greek Philosopher And The Main Source Of... Socrates was a Greek philosopher and the main source of Western thought. He was born circa 470 BC, in Athens, Greece and also through the writings of his students, Plato and Xenophon we of his life. Socrates was the son of Sophroniscus, an Athenian sculptor and stone maker, and Phaenarete, a midwife. Because he was not from a superior family, he got a basic Greek education and learned his father s craft at a young age. Before Socrates devoted his life to philosophy, it is believed he worked as a mason for many years. Socrates married Xanthippe, a younger woman and they had three sons Lamprocles, Sophroniscus and Menexenus. Furthermore, the Athenian law required all able bodied males serve as citizen soldiers for duty from ages 18 until they were 60. According to Plato, Socrates served in the armoured infantry known as the hoplite with shield, face mask and long spear. He participated in three military campaigns during the Peloponnesian War, at Delium, and Potidaea, Amphipolis where he saved the life of Alcibiades, a popular Athenian general. A trait that stayed with him throughout his life was his courage in battle and fearlessness. After his trial, he compared his refusal to retreat from his legal troubles to a soldier s refusal to retreat from battle when threatened with death. Plato s Symposium provides the best details of Socrates s physical appearance, saying that he was not the ideal of Athenian masculinity. Short and stocky, with a snub nose and bulging eyes, ... • 28. Buddhism and No-Self Essay Eastern enlightenment religions have been gaining popularity throughout the western world for the past few decades, with many people attracted to a different way of experiencing religion. As with many other enlightenment religions, Buddhism requires disciples to understand concepts that are not readily explainable: one such concept is that of no self. In this essay I shall discuss the no self from a number of modern perspectives; however, as no self is difficult to describe I shall focus on both the self and no self. Beginning with psychological aspects, and neurophysiological research on transcendental meditation, I shall discuss the impact of modern brain science on our understanding of the self and transcendence. Next I will outline ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 123 125) Modern psychology attempts to scientifically explain many aspects of our lives. Yet it seems that when psychology meets religion the result is rarely a fair compromise. As an example, if faced with a person claiming to have no sense of self a psychologist may suspect some form of dissociative disorder. An excellent modern example of spiritualism clashing with psychological diagnoses is that of the much maligned Aleister Crowley; after years of searching for his own samyaksambodhi he entered into a period of silence and claimed enlightenment – the psychological description of Crowley is that of a paranoid schizophrenic who declined into catatonia. I simply wonder where the line is that divides the religious experience from the psychopathological. Neurophysiologists have shown interest in that state of no self that Buddhist monks can reach while in prayer. It has been found, using a specialized brain imaging technique based on CT scanning, that the brain state of Buddhist monks in deep meditation is radically different from that of the average waking person (Newberg et al., 2001). In fact, during meditation the body changes its physiological ‘state to a more beneficial pattern (Weiten, 2005, p. 145). This is not to say that Buddhism is the path – similar brain patterns have also been found in Franciscan Nuns deep in prayer. Interesting work has also been done researching the effect of electromagnetic interference on brain function. Researchers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Obama says, the Affordable Care Act has made significant progress toward solving long standing challenges facing the U.S. health care system related to access, affordability and quality of care (2016). Therefore, the Affordable Care Act of 2010 has been a working progress towards upholding the iron triangle of healthcare, which is cost, quality, and access. During the current election, healthcare reform has been a rousing topic that has raised a lot of support for the candidates and also concern for their future plans. For healthcare administrators, this is important so they can strategically start planning for the election results because the effects on healthcare will be major and will not be able to happen overnight. Hillary Clinton plans to simply modify the Affordable Care Act and add a public option; while on the other hand, Donald Trump wants to abolish the Affordable Care Act entirely and replace it with a health savings account and a high deductible and high premium driven system (HDHP). Both of these possibilities affect healthcare and the iron triangle, but they affect the triangle in different ways, which is important for healthcare administrators to prepare for. Although Gogol and the speaker in My Two Lives share similar backgrounds and can directly relate to each other, Akaky can also connect to Lahiri and Gogol because all they all yearn for acceptance from those around them. One point of comparison is the practice of naming connects Akaky, from The Overcoat , and Gogol together by having similar practices. Another similarity between all three works is that each main character questions their identity, eventually overcoming their struggle of being seen as different. Both Akaky Akakiyevich, and Gogol Ganguli live in cultures where their names have substantial meaning.
