Personal Response Essay
Writing a Personal Response Essay can be a challenging task, as it requires a delicate balance
between personal reflection and critical analysis. The difficulty lies in weaving one's thoughts,
emotions, and experiences into a coherent and compelling narrative while still maintaining a
scholarly tone.
Firstly, expressing personal opinions and feelings can be intricate, as it requires introspection and
a deep understanding of one's own thoughts and reactions. It demands the writer to be open and
vulnerable, sharing personal insights without veering into overly subjective territory.
On the other hand, crafting a response that is academically sound involves analyzing the subject
matter critically, drawing connections to relevant theories or concepts, and presenting a well-
structured argument. Striking this balance between personal expression and academic rigor can
be a demanding task, requiring careful consideration of each element.
Moreover, ensuring that the essay remains focused and coherent is a challenge. The risk of
straying off-topic or becoming too disjointed is ever-present when blending personal experiences
with analytical elements. It requires meticulous planning and organization to maintain a logical
flow and engage the reader effectively.
In conclusion, writing a Personal Response Essay demands a high level of self-awareness,
critical thinking, and writing proficiency. It requires the author to navigate the fine line between
personal expression and scholarly analysis, making it a task that necessitates both creativity and
discipline.

The Need to Control Water Pollution
When you turn on the tap and drink a glass of water, Does it taste funny? Is it
clear? The water you are drinking may be toxic without any such indicators. Water
is all around us; it is essential for life. Over two thirds of earth s surface is covered by
water, but everyone only wants and need clean water. Each year, water pollution
increases and continues to be responsible for harming our environment. According to
Duhigg (2009) of the New York Times, more than 100 wells were polluted by
agricultural runoff within a few month time period, affecting livestock such as pigs
and cows . Water pollution is a silent and deadly pollution bacterium can be tasteless,
colorless, and scentless. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
(2009) says that the United States has the safest water supplies in the world, but states
that when water sources became contaminated, they can easily cause widespread
sickness and disease from waterborne germs including Cryptosporidium, E. coli,
Hepatitis A., and other pathogens. Despite progress reducing water pollution from the
largest sources, our country still faces serious pollution challenges. Violations are still
too widespread, and enforcement too uneven. We need to do better controlling
pollution.
Water pollution can occur through natural process, but many times water pollution is
mostly a result of human activities. Water is used every day in our homes and
industries; the average of water use in the United States is
Edward Snowden and Wikileaks
Since the beginning of modern technology people have worried about being looked
upon or spied on without their knowing. Even before the internet was invented some
people worried about their phone calls being recorded or listened in on without their
knowledge. In 1997 when the internet was common in most households this made
this idea of people being spied on much easier and on a wider scale. The first proven
threat of internetsurveillancewas in 2001 when the NSA(National Security Agency)
did a Large scale warrantless surveillance (Risen Bush Lets U.S Spy ) of internet
traffic and data streams. This surveillance program was a way to gather data and
prevent terrorist attacks. However some speculated that this was not just to monitor
the activities of suspected terrorists. In 2013 when Edward Snowden released data
that proved that the NSA was using their surveillance on everyone it turned
speculation into fact and fears of this were brought to the surface.
In the summer of 2013 one of the biggest leaks of classified documents was carried
out by a man named Edward Snowden (E. McAskill) . Edward Snowden worked as
an sysamin (System Administrator) for a security company that did contract work for
the NSA. During his time working at this company he released an estimated two
hundred thousand classified documents. Within these documents was evidence that
the United States was performing a large scale surveillance operation of its people
(B. Denson). It is estimated that
Sonia Sotomayor Independent
I think that Sonia Sotomayor had a very independent, and rough life. She had a tough
life because she had to inject herself because she had diabetes. She also went through
poverty, and her alcoholic father died when she was young. Her mother was a nurse at
a hospital, which was the only way they were making money. When she became older
she was discriminated because she was a latina that wanted to be a Judge. But
sotomayor overcame discrimination by reporting and the ignoring the situation.
Sotomayor then finally became one of the most supreme, and superior judge in the
U.S. Although Sotomayor went Through tough times before she became a judge, she
had an independent life with No one to take care of her. Although she was

Car Pollution Essay
The words pollution and automobile are synonymous, and as long as vehicles still use
fossil fuels to run, that won t change. Consumers, communities, and the environment
are key stakeholders the auto industry has to consider when it comes to pollution.
More energy efficient, hybrid or electric vehicles can increase customer satisfaction
and add to the company s business performance. For instance, fuel consumption is an
assumption of performance and is very important for consumers. Thus, automotive
companies have to come up with great designs with minimal consumption of
resources and raw materials; engines that give more mileage and less fuel
consumption. Given that consumers are the most important stakeholders,
communities of these consumers also want vehicles with the lowest emissions
possible with hopes of keeping the air around them clean and healthy. Once again,
these informal bands and communities of consumers have large amounts of power
based on buying power alone, and can significantly impact an automobilecompany s
business.
A vehicle s environmental impact can be easily measured through miles per gallon
and measures of emissions. In 2011, President Barrack Obama and automobile
companies agreed to raise fuel efficiency standards to meet an average of 54.5 miles
per gallon by 2025. This will lead to more fuel efficient vehicles that will consume
less gas, thus burning less fuel and emitting fewer emissions into the air. Also,
according to the Obama administration, this
Catherine De Medici Research Paper
Catherine de Medici was a French lady who was married into the royal family at
the age of fourteen in the sixteenth century. She was different than other women
during this time period, and she enjoyed studying astrology and the arts. She was
also the one who ordered the Tuileries to be built. She formed a very close
relationship with the King and her father in law, King Francis I, and even named
one of her children after him. However, her husband and the King s son, Henry,
despised Catherine, and openly had an affair with another mistress named Diane.
Despite this, he and Catherine still tried to have children, yet failed the first few
years of their marriage. Catherine was shamed by the people for not having children
at this point, and some... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Later on, King Francis I passed away due to illness and old age, which caused
despair both throughout the kingdom and to Catherine. Despite his death, the wars
went on, and Catherine used his death to her advantage. She dressed in all black
and begged the court to give France s army more money for funding, which they
allowed. She did this because she knew that the King would have wanted their
army to keep fighting. Later, Catherine s husband was stabbed through the eye
during a jousting match and died, which also caused great sadness in Catherine s
heart. Her son, Charles, became the new king. He was young and unfit to rule, so
the Guise family watched over and directed him. However, the Guises were
malicious and loved bloodshed, so they used this opportunity to cause more wars and
battles between France and other countries. They also ordered all Protestants will be
executed if they were caught practicing their beliefs in public. Although Catherine
was a Catholic, she knew the executions and torturing of the Protestants were wrong,
yet she could do nothing because of her gender and lack of royal
The Boy In The Striped Pajamas Analysis
World war II in Germany was a dull time for the Jews, hence they were
discriminated against by the germans. Ethnicity plays a big role in this movie
because it is the reason that the Jews are locked away in the concentration camps.
The movie is a representation of Political Power becomes Personal Authority
(Nichols, 2010, P.275) in the sense that Aldorf Hitler took advantage of the
vulnerable Jews. This essay will discuss the differences between the Jews and
Germans during WW II through race and ethnicity. This will be supported from
examples in the two scenes chosen, book vocabulary, as well as the formal and
social content to analyze the scenes. The movie The boy in the Striped Pajamas: is
about an 8 year old, privileged German boy named Bruno, who loves exploring, is
forced to move away from Berlin with his family to the Countryside during World
War II. This is because, his father has just gotten promoted to Commandment by
Hitler himself and was asked to live closer to the concentration camps. Bruno starts
exploring the new area, and soon finds this barbed wired area where he meets a
Jewish boy named Shmuel. Shmuel is held in the concentration camps, however
Bruno does not find out the truth until the near end of the movie. Bruno and Shmuel
form an undesirable bond that later in the movie causes many tragical events.
Throughout the two scenes I have chosen to discuss, there are some similarities. First
and foremost, these similarities include, the main idea of
Personal Teaching Philosophy
Through my experiences working in the education field and the classes I have
taken at Cal State LA, I have developed a personal teaching philosophy that will be
implemented in my future classrooms. My experiences working with middle school
and high schools students have led me to pursue a career in teaching. For three
years, I worked as an Advancement via Individual Determination (AVID) tutor at my
former high school helping students with their homework and problems they face.
AVID is a college preparation program designed to help high school students
become motivated and prepared to enter a four year university of their choice. I also
was fortunate to work at the CSULA Reading and Writing clinic as a teaching
facilitator during their Summer... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, by being admitted into this program, I feel I will be in the right path
into becoming a trained teacher with some exposure on how to manage a classroom,
work with diverse learnings, learn some pedagogical skills, present and develop
lesson plans, and observe teachers. As a future educator, I firmly believe that all
children are capable of learning and achieving success through the guidance,
dedication, and support from a teacher. My philosophy and teaching styles may
change throughout my teaching career, and I want to remain receptive to suggestions
and open for improvement. Teaching young minds is a task that cannot be taken
lightly. It is full of challenges, frustrations, and responsibilities. However, it is a task
that is also full of excitement, wonder, and
John Milton Essays
Satan, as a character, has been satirized, mocked and made foolish in our modern
world. John Milton, however, presents quite a different Satan from the devil on your
shoulder image people are used to seeing. In Paradise Lost, Milton draws on the
Bible for his source of Satan s character, thereby creating a horrifyingly corrupt Satan
. Despite this portrayal, readersoften find themselves sympathizingwith Satan s cause,
and his determination, viewing him as a hero for his cause, as evidenced by his
long, brave speeches. Later, however Satan s speeches begin to show signs of regret,
making the reader question their initial reaction to him. In the end the image of Satan
is further skewed by his own incriminating speech. Thus, the speeches of... Show

Warring in Heav n against Heav n s matchless King: Ah Wherefore! he deserved no
such return From me, whom he created what I was In that bright eminence, and with
his good Upbraided non, nor was his service hard (4.39 45)
Looking back, Satan sees that his actions against God were not fully justified. He
recalls how glorious things were, even calling God the matchless King . He further
decides that things were better than he thought, noting that the service was not bad,
and that he probably owed service to God for creating him. After thinking about this,
though, Satan attempts to justify his actions by saying O had his powerful destiny
ordained/ Me some inferior angel, I had stood/ Then happy; no unbounded hope had
raised/ Ambition (4.58 61) . Satan feels that it was his prominent position that forced
him to become so ambitious, and that none of these feelings would have emerged if
he had been a lesser angel.
This inner battle leads the reader to become slightly suspicious about Satan s
description of himself in earlier books, and their own interpretation of his earlier
words. It becomes difficult to view Satan as a hero, when his own words call into
doubt everything for which he stands. While Satan s ultimate decision is to carry
through with his plan, the reader is invited to look through this decision,
Celsius, Fahrenheit, And Kelvin
Introduction The most commonly used temperature units in science lab were Celsius,
Fahrenheit, and Kelvin. These three units can use certain equation to change its units
from one to another. The specific heat is a term for a number of calories in heat
needed to raise the temperature of 1g of substance by 1ВєC. A thermometer, beakers,
and calorimeter were frequently used in this lab.
Procedure
The initial temperature of the water was measured when it is in beaker. When the salt
is added, it is concluded how salt can lower the water temperature. The temperature
was measured in Celsius and was changed to both Fahrenheit and Kelvin. The second
experiment involved the heat exchange between metal and water. The metal in beaker
and water in calorimeter
William Shakespeare s A Great British Author
A Great British Author William Shakespeare was one of the greatest poets,
playwright, and actor. He composed numerous plays, sonnets, and poems.
Shakespeare was born in Stratford. His precise birthday is not known, but it is
thought to be April 23, because according to church records, he was baptized on
April 26, 1564. During this time babies were typically baptized when they were 3
days old. Shakespeare s father was John Shakespeare, who was a glove maker and
a tradesman. His mother was Mary Arden. Shakespeare was married to Anne
Hathaway on November 1582. Shakespeare was 18 at the time of the wedding and
Anne was 26. Their first child, Susanna was born 6 months after the wedding in
1583. In 1585 they had fraternal twins, A son, Hamnet and a daughter named Judith.
Hamnet passed away when he was 11 years old, possibly from bubonic plague. Many
believe that the play Hamletwas about Hamnet Shakespeares son. After 3 years of
marriage, Shakespeare moved to London. His wife Anne and children stayed behind
in Stratford. One of my favorite Shakespeare plays is Hamlet. The story develops
with the late King Hamlet appearing to his child, requesting retaliation on his sibling,
the King Claudius, which is an occasion prone to irritate the Crown Prince. Over the
span of the show, Hamlet perseveres through numerous trials of his will and cognise
compelling him to reinforce his feelings and the strategies by which he will execute
them. Yet, through it
Romani A Beautiful Country
When people hear of the place Romania, not very many people know about its very
existence, much less where it is located on a map. Romania is not a well known
country, but it is somewhat known for its gypsies, castles, wine, and for Dracula
himself. Romania is a beautiful country filled with amazing landscape such as
fascinating forests, majestic mountains, and raging rivers. Romania also is a very
warm culture and the people there are extremely friendly and hospitable. In order for
one to know and understand much more about Romania, one would need to
understand the changing culture, the people that helped change that culture, and the
religion that has shaped the nation. To begin one s understanding of a country, one

Romanians will go to the utmost extreme of providing extravagant food,
entertainment, and ceremonies. Before the wedding, the groom will visit the
house of the bride to bring her to the place where the wedding will be held. All of
the many people involved in the wedding then proceed in their cars to the wedding.
Typically, they will drive leisurely and will honk at pedestrians to cheer for the
couple. Once the procession reaches the place of the wedding, which will usually
be an Orthodox church, the priest will lead the people into the main auditorium for
the ceremony. The ceremony itself, which is comprised of the priest blessing the
couple, reading from the Bible, and singing, could take up to three hours. After the
ceremony, the couple drinks from the same glass of wine and eat the same piece of
bread to symbolize unity. After the couple is unified, they proceed to visit the
numerous pictures of Jesus and the saints and kiss them. Once the entire ceremony is
over, the bride and groom normally take their guests to a restaurant of some sort to
have refreshments and entertainment. Some weddings go as far as buying fireworks
and lighting them after midnight symbolizing the first day of being married. This
time of refreshing and entertainment could last between a weekend and a whole
week. The final tradition that is most prominent in Romanian culture is funerals.
When someone passes away, the family will wait three days before washing and

The Opening Sequences of David Lean and Alfonso Cuaron s Film Version of Great
Expectations
In this media assignment I shall be analyzing and comparing the similarities and
differences of two famous directors film versions of Great Expectations . The two
directors are David Lean and Alfonso Cuaron. David Lean s version was more
popular and well known than Alfonso Cuaron s because Lean was the first director to
actually direct Great Expectations . This made it more difficult for Alfonso Cuaron
because he had to bring the film up to date by making the film more modern and
there have also been 10 other films based on the novel Great Expectations . David
Lean had directed his version of Great ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is revealing to the audience that the film fits into the horror genre and is giving
the audience clues about what the film will include, such as an ominous atmosphere
and scenes of violence and gore. Lean has created this mood and theme so that the
audience would want to know what the film actually contains, whether it is horror or
drama.
David Lean and Alfonso Cuaron are using the different techniques to keep the
audience interested in the movie. The soundtrack of both versions is different
because Alfonso Cuaron has played music throughout his opening frames. He has
introduced sound effects such as waves that give the audience a pleasant sound to
their ears; this same effect is employed with seagulls. The music that is actually
played has a joyful and happy mood, which encourages the audience to think that the
film is a non violent film. But when Magwitch appears from underneath the water in
the tenth frame and grabs Pip, at this point the music changes from joyful and happy
to dramatic and shocking. Cuaron deliberately did this to shock and alarm the
audience from a happy and cheerful atmosphere to an explicit and up tempo
atmosphere, this technique also keeps you interested in the film.
On the other hand David Lean has only played music in his opening

Animal Cruelty And Domestic Abuse
If abusing animals isn t bad enough, it s been noticed the terrible connections it has
with domestic abuse. The current animal cruelty laws should be more severe and
enforced with worse repercussions. Once an individual is charged with abusing an
animal, they should be prohibited from owning one forever instead of just months
/years. Children that are responsible for animal abuse should be required to see a
psychiatrist regularly, so they can learn to deal with their anger in a better way rather
than taking it out on animals or people. For adults that are completely aware of their
actions, there should be bigger fines and longer imprisonment terms to help
discourage abusive behavior before it affects more than animals. Human beings can
shout... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, according to a report by the Boston Globe, both of the perpetrators in
the Columbine High School shooting had an interest in mutilating animals. They
went from animal abuse to murdering their classmates as teenagers.
One prime example of animal abuse going without punishment takes live
broadcasts to a whole new, horrible level. In Denmark during a radio show the host
beat a baby rabbit named Allan to death with a bicycle pump. He claimed it was a
humane way to put him down, although using a bicycle pump hardly seems so. The
rabbit was only nine weeks old. So far the host hasn t been punished or charged with
anything, and with the way things are going it seems unlikely he will be. Things
need to change. The current laws for animal cruelty simply aren t enough, and unless
we help make a difference they won t ever be.
Animal abuse is a terrible crime that affects all living creatures around the world. In
the U.S., you can take action by learning which laws exist in your area and work to
strengthen them through petitions and writing to your government representatives.
You should also learn how to report animal cruelty nearby. As these examples show,
the punishment is often not even close in proportion to the crime. It s up to us to lend
our voices to the

Abbot Suger of St. Denis and the Rise of Gothic Architecture Religion has always
been a part of our identity. Today, the population wander around the world seeing
these wonderful churches and religious buildings all around us. The architectural
style of the Middle Ages was very prominent: high stone vaults, internal elevations of
multiple stories, rounded arches, and thick walls. This was characterized as
Romanesque architecture. Suger revolutionized everything. He reworked these ideas
and introduced, to the world, what is now known as the Gothic architectural style.
Although Gothic architecture played a prominent role during the Renaissance, ...

People were criticizing the new building and was not very keen of the idea of
renovation. Suger still pushed for his project and fulfill his dreams to glorify the
church. He began to rebuilt the church in 1137. One of the reasons behind this
construction was that he was not contended with the dark and sinister style of
Romanesque architecture. He wanted the church to be an expression of modernity
and enlightenment. (Verdon and Dally 190 191). Suger considered it as modern
because it was not heavy looking and inspiring. His critics, including Bernard of
Clairvaux, called it Gothic because it was unrefined, barbaric and non Roman
(Bradbury 295). These criticisms were all wrong because it was completely renewed
and this symbolized the top achievement of the medieval civilization. However, they
were right that it was completely not Roman. This building represented the apex of
achievement because, after centuries of being under the influence of the Roman
empire, Suger gave birth to something new, something extravagant and

If we banned every breed that ever bit or did something wrong there would not be
any dogs left because dogs of every breed will bite if provoked. It may not be fatal,
but they still will bite depending on the situation. In Montreal they placed a law
that would prevent residents from adopting or buying pit bulls and would have
required anyone who already owns one of the dogs to register the animal (Hauser
1) . According to an article in The New York Times this was because a woman was
fatally mauled by a dog in June. This woman was 55 years old and was bitten and
killed, the police officer said that a neighbor found the woman dead in a backyard.
The dog was shot and killed because the police said that the dog was too aggressive
for the officers to approach. The police also said that he did not know the breed of
the dog (Hauser 2) . It says that The bylaw requires owners to pay higher fees for
the animal than for non pitbull types (Hauser 1) . Owners will also have to go
through a criminal background check and the dog must keep a muzzle on outside
even when they are inside fenced in yards. They suspended this law at a later date
because the judge (Louis Gouin) considered a request from the Montreal Society
for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to throw them out (Hauser 2) . Pit bulls
are the most targeted breed in the nation because of their blocky heads and square
jaws and because of their reputation in pop culture. They have been portrayed as
overly aggressive towards humans or as natural born fighters and guard dogs.
Videos on the internet do not help their case and neither does making them dogfight
which just increases their aggressiveness towards people and other dogs. Other
factors like insurance company rules do not help either because good dogs end up in
terrible situations or they end up getting banned because one dog of the same breed

The Use Of Street Drugs Among Adolescents
Introduction The use of street drugs among adolescents is a serious health problem in
the United States and is the primary health risk behavior that contributes to
unintentional injuries, homicide, and suicide, which are the leading causes of
morbidity and mortality among children between the ages of 12 and 18 years
(Patnode et al, 2014). Even when used infrequently, the risks for serious adverse
effects increase due to behaviors of those intoxicated or impaired. There are numerous
reasons as to why adolescents choose to experiment with various substances,
including family structure, media exposure, socioeconomic status, or simply the
desire to fit in. Whatever the cause is for each adolescent, it is important to apply
early intervention and prevention in order to avoid the need for further specialized
treatment for substance abuse.
Family Structure and Adolescent Drug Use In 2009, Vanessa Hemovich and William
D. Crano from the Department of Psychology at Claremont Graduate University
analyzed data from the Monitoring the Future 2004 survey, which examined inhalant
inappropriate use of a legal drug and marijuana and amphetamine illegal substances
use among 37,507 8th to 12th grade adolescents in schools across the United States.
They hypothesized that older adolescents and those living in single parent households
will report higher levels of drug use than their younger counterparts and peers living
in households with both parents. They also predicted that children

Individuals who live in low income households typically have a less healthy

low income families that report high or low levels of stress. Parents have a higher
level of stress that has increased more within the past year when compared to non

Are Solar Roadways the future?
In the beginning Scott and Julie Brusaw became open on the subject for creating
solar powered LED roadways, they have encountered an endless amount of doubt
and even outright aggression. The reaction was obviously expected given how new
this sort of technology is. Not only is it new, but it would quite difficult to execute
the dream of electrifying roads and highways with reinforced solar panels. Some
questioned question if whether or not solar roadways are even necessary. However,

Words will be able to be illuminated into roads, warning of wildlife ahead, a detour a

The LEDs can also be programmed to move along with cars at the speed limit,
warning drivers instantly when they are driving too fast. The LEDs will also be
used to paint words right into the road, warning drivers of an animal on the road, a

to instantly customize the lines and words in real time, alleviating traffic congestion
and making the roads more efficient as well as safer. Cities and towns will be able

For example, here in Sandpoint, Idaho, we have Lost in the 50 s Weekend each May.
Currently, the city puts out orange cones to remark the parking places and block off

celebration, they would equally quickly return to the default setting.

Over Fat In Youth Sports
Over the years youth sports has grown into a major stepping stone for an athlete s
career. Children are playing competitive sports at earlier ages, but some kids are
still facing problems with being overweight or obese. I always believed overweight
and obese to have the same meaning. Once the words were defined they were shown
to have different meanings. Overweight, is defined as weight over and above what is
required or allowed. (Meriam Webster) Following the definition of obese meaning,
very fat: fat in a way that is unhealthy. (Meriam Webster) According to the article 1 in
3 children are either overweight or obese. There have been many studies conducted to
get to the conclusions that this article covers. When the youth participate in
Food Texture And Taste Effect On Acceptance And
Preference...
In the research article The Relationship between Number of Fruits, Vegetables, and
Noncore Foods Tried at Age 14 Months and Food Preferences, Dietary Intake
Patterns, Fussy Eating Behavior, and Weight Status at Age 3.7 Years by Mallan,
Fildes, Magarey, and Daniels, they study the exposure to higher amounts of
vegetables, noncore foods (low nutrients) and fruits at 14 months of age to see if it
is connected to the consumption of these foods, as well as to the child s preference
for these foods. The authors also study these higher exposures to fruits, noncore
foods and vegetables to see if it relates to weight at age 3.7 and fear of new food.
Moreover, they proposed the idea that; Early food texture and taste experiences effect
acceptance and preference of food. Further, the authors study these exposures to fruits
and vegetables at 14 months of age because the eatingbehaviors and food preferences
of a child will be developing during that time, which will be important for the
formation of the child s diet patterns. In addition, the formation of the child s diet
patterns has suggestions as to whether or not the child will develop an unhealthy
weight. Furthermore, the authors study people s understanding of early feeding
experiences, and examine children s early food exposure (Mallan, Fildes, Magarey,
Daniels, 2015).
To determine acceptance and preference of food, the authors examine children s
early feeding experiences and mother s knowledge of early feeding experiences.
Marc Ching s Argument Of Money

Suicide In Scott Anderson s The Urge To End It All
The answer may not lie in who might commit suicide, but in how suicide can be
prevented. Impulsive suicides such as jumping suicides may be able to be prevented
altogether, and according to Scott Anderson s The Urge to End it All actions that are
taken to prevent impulsive suicides may play hand in hand with reducing non
impulsive suicides. Time is of the essence, which may be truer than you ve previously

The Sniper Character Analysis
When I was in first grade I went to Michigan Adventures, which is a theme park
with lots of rides. My friend and I went on most of all the rides. After that my
friend wanted to go on Shivering Timbers, a tall wooden coaster, it s highest point
being 122 feet. We got in line and I was very nervous, so my friend asked me
multiple times if I was fine with going, and for some reason I said yes every time,
but I was frightened on the inside and I did not want to go. By the time I wanted to
tell him I didn t want to ride it, I was already on the ride. First we went up, then
back down continuously until we turned and did the same thing going back until it
stopped. After, I was happy I rode the ride, and I felt accomplished. This shows
bravery because I was risking what felt like my life due to me being scared of the
roller coaster. Bravery is doing something other people might not, which is what I
did because people scared of roller coasters wouldn t ride on them. This trait is also
relevant to the main characters in the books The Sniper by Liam O Flaherty whose
main character is known as the IRA Sniper or Irish Republic Army sniper, and
Michael from The Eye of Minds by James Dashner, who is a hacker in a virtual world
who is hunting down a cyber terrorist. The characters Michael and the IRA Sniper
are both brave because they are willing to risk their lives for the greater good.
Michael from The Eye of Minds is brave due to risking his life in multiple occasions.

The Glory Field By Walter Dean Myers
The Glory Field by Walter Dean Myers best conveys the character traits of courage,
ambitiousness, and supporting family even when times appear to be distressful.
This book takes you through African American history with the excitement and
thrill of fiction. It allows you to witness the glory of African American evolution,
from a period of slavery to modern day. The reader witnesses courage as African
Americans try and fight for freedom and equality in an unforgiving society. African
Americans try and defy the society s perspective of them in an attempt to reach an
optimal level of success. They work to divert from their typical expectations, and
strive for success even when the possibilities are minimal. They strive to build a
better living besides being maids and factory workers, and they attempt to remove
every obstacle in their way of success. They desire to go above what is expected of
them, so they can achieve at a prodigious level in a segregated society. Even as
technology advances, the reader witnesses the character s sense of community. They
always believe that family is crucial to success even in times of distress. If they
abandon their community, then they abandon the only people that support them. In
this time period, their community was composed of the only people that cared about
them. The African Americansociety emulates these traits throughout this book, as the
author inserts you into their fight for equity and freedom. The Glory Field takes
Pope Urban s Motivation For The Holy War Analysis
INTRO In 1095 Pope Urban II made a speech at Clermont in the South of France, to
mount the first crusade to rescue the Holy Land of Jerusalem from the Muslims and
to give it back to the Christians. Religious obligation and personal gain would be the
most important benefits from the crusades.
The motivation for a Holy War came from PopeUrban II amazing speech. He wanted
all men to give up their daily lives and to take the cross and to fight for the return of
the Holy Land, the place where Christ was crucified and buried. After his speech,
the Pope never expected the thousands of men that listened to him and answered his
call to make the journey into foreign lands and fight an enemy they never knew. He
would have been overwhelmed with the response. The men came from all walks of
life, from peasants to lords. So many men willingly left their homes to ... Show more

On this account I, or rather the Lord, beseech you as Christ s heralds to publish this
everywhere and to persuade all people of whatever rank, foot soldiers and knights,
poor and rich, to carry aid promptly to those Christians.
Pope Urban s inspiring words was the motivation why so many people responded to
his call. The war was for all Christians to fight and they were promised Salvation as
the eternal reward , and this made the Crusade all the more appealing to fight.
Another religious motivating factor that was appealing was the pilgrimage to the
Holy Land. Religion was extremely important but a lot of people were poor and
could not afford to travel to Jerusalem. The Crusade gave them the chance to make
the pilgrimage and so they could, take the cross and make the journey to the Holy
Sepulchre, the tomb in which Christ was placed and from which he rose . By doing
this, the crusader was also absolved of their sins which was an important part of the

Todd Closson English 8/24/14 The Crucible Society trusts those that conform, and
distrusts those that don t. One advantage of conforming to societies expectations is
that you gain trust from the society. People who don t conform aren t trusted. One
disadvantage is that you join the group, so you re not technically an individual

causes of hysteria, mob mentality, scapegoating by showing the conflicts within a

occurred throughout The Crucible. Hysteria is an overwhelming fear and excitement

Although all of the court officials seemed to take advantage of Proctor and his
situation, Parris clearly is the most conceited, as his life and profession seem to
depend upon the actions of John. Proctor s first decision to act as a scapegoat was
made in order to weaken Abigail s power within the court, for Elizabeth had been
wrongly accused of sending her spirits upon Abigail. Although he knew that the
people within the court would frown upon him for his sin of committing adultery, he
had to give some information to weaken the girls power, since Mary Warren, his
servant at that time, had just turned on him. After Proctor confessed to the court of
their relationship, Danforth, the judge, questioned if Abigail denied what had been
said. Her response was that if I must answer to that, I will leave and I will not come
back again (Miller 111) which gave the judge the impression that they had indeed
committed lechery. This action alone could not prove Elizabeth s innocence.
Danforth ordered Elizabeth to inform the court of all that she was aware of between
her husband and Abigail. The court agreed that if Elizabeth acknowledged that
Proctor had committed lechery, These witchcraft trials were classic examples of mass

Jesus s Last Supper
Jesus s last supper with his disciples has been a prominent story within the New
Testament. At Jesus s last supper, he delivers a speech on how to remember him
once he is gone. Within the gospels of Matt, Mark, Luke, and John much is
communicated within just a few verses; unfortunately, these accounts differ so much
that it is difficult to know exactly what happened at this supper. The earliest witness
of the synoptic gospels are Mark and Matthew (Marks first). You can say the
accounts of Mark and Matthew are nearly identical. This is due to the fact that
Matthew originates from the same cultural background of Mark. Matthew has a
tendency of mirroring Marks work and adding his own stuff to his narrative. They
wrote their gospels with the
Pericles Pride in his Athenian City
Pride is an emotion in each human being possesses. The Athenian s and American
people s prides plays a powerful part in their country for we are proud of the
country that we live in. An individual is patriotic to its country for it is the place
where we are born, raised, and hopefully be the place where we can make a
difference before we die. It is the country our ancestors built and we value it in our
history. A country s history can represent many different aspects of their culture and
civilization. The Athenian, Pericles thought precisely just that. Pericles states the
military might of the Athenian navy, the adaptability of the Athenian people, the
Athenian government and the roles of its individual citizens, art appreciation, and
how they are compared to their neighboring countries. His views that bias Athens
was profound and in depth which put the city and its people on a pedestal. Pericles
s speech first gave praise to the ancestors, for which they are the people who built
the city from the ground up and fought for democracy. He speaks of the ancestors
with great honor and valor and that it was them who gave birth to Athens. He
perceives Athens as a city with virtue, modesty, and modernization. It is a city who
doesn t isolate itself from other governing states. Pericles announce that they aren t
afraid to show their culture to the world and any foreigners may come and learn or
observe from them. He suggests Athens is a country that welcomes foreigners and

Native Americans And The American Indian Movement

Minority groups are defined as alien residents of nations who no longer have rights to
their land. Ordinarily due to colonization. Minority status is the result of adverse
discrimination some of the defining elements of these groups are commonly long
term occupation of land, common ancestry, traditional culture, language or formal
membership. In the United States, Native Americans, also known as American
Indians or just simply Indians are considered to be people whose pre Columbian
ancestors were indigenous to the lands within the nation s modern boundaries.
These people were composed of numerous distinct tribes, bands and ethnic groups.

In North By Alfred Hitchcock Essay
Intro:
Bordwell and Thompson judge narrative to be a chain of events linked by cause and
effect in time and space as a filmmaker, Hitchcock s biggest ally in creating suspense
and mystery is his ability to manipulate point of view within a cause and effect
narrative. The Master of Suspense manipulates his audience s perspective while
simultaneously employing narrative techniques to build tension and expand the
potential of his narrative. While both North by Northwest and Rope are fairly
straightforward they are both riddled with plot twists and suspense. Hitchcock s
various narrative strategies include: plotting, release of story information, character
development and spectator development. It s these elements combined with classic

In both North by Northwest and Rope Alfred Hitchcock employs clear diegesis in
order establish a story. Despite both films having clear narrative lines, Hitchcock
purposefully utilizes point of view editing to enhance the suspense and intrigue of
the plot. Janet Bergstrom states in North by Northwest Hitchcock constructs a visual
structure with classical narrative economy In North by Northwest Roger Thornhill
is the main agent of cause and effect; we are introduced to Roger s clear character
traits as we see events take place through his eyes. However it s the tonal and point of
view shift that takes place roughly one third through the film that stimulates our
interest. During the train dinner scene between Eve and Roger Hitchcock employs
reversals a technique described by Linda J. Cowgill as when something happens and
the film suddenly veers off in the opposite direction Hitchcock is able to use this
technique so successfully by allowing the emotion of the scene to connect with the
suspense and consequences of the action. Halfway through the film, the crop duster
scene takes place. It is here we can see how through point of view and juxtaposition
of opposites Hitchcock has constructed an incredibly emotional and suspenseful
narrative. Within this scene Hitchcock exclusively pans the camera horizontally in
order to keep the audience with the character s actions. ***** NEEED TO
Wonder Woman Analysis
Since their inception, comics have been a way to raise public awareness and
introduce readers to current events plaguing the nation, and to represent the struggle
of minorities. Often, the characters addressing such issues are superheroes who are
both inspirations in their successes and relatable in their struggles. As the first
recognized female superhero, Wonder Womanfaces and overcomes challenges as she
opens a door for women into the world of comics. William Marston s goal for
Wonder Woman was to create an independent heroine with feminist undertones who
could succeed on the same level as the popular male heroes of the time. He wanted to
set up a standard among children and young people of strong, free, courageous
womanhood; and to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wonder Woman was a feminine character with all the strength of Superman plus
all the allure of a good and beautiful woman, perfect for the face of the fight for
women s rights and recognition (187). The strong female superhero became the
face of Ms. Magazine, a women s rights publication, with the iconic cover staring
the character and proclaiming Wonder Woman for President, (centerfold, last
page). She also appears in an underground comic book titled It Ain t Me Babe that
was published in July 1970 by the Women s Liberation Basement Press in Berkeley,
California, alongside other popular female comic characters who rebel against their
reliance on men: Veronica ditches Archie for Betty, Petunia Pig tells Porky to fix his
own dinner, and Supergirl tells Superman to get lost (centerfold, It Ain t Me Babe ).
Wonder Woman s participation in this feminist rebelling reinforced her role as an
icon in the feminist movement. The character has internal references that allude to
feminist ideas directly and are integral in her representing the movement. The way
she is powerless when bound in chains by a man symbolizes feminist propaganda
and protests involving chains restricting women and women breaking free of their
bindings. On page 85 of The Secret History of Wonder Woman, the image of Lou

Athena Vs Poseidon
Poseidon, the Sea God, and Athena, the Goddess of War, Wisdom and Peace both had
different point of views and perspectives. Poseidon, the God known for his trident,
acted dramatically towards winning Athens. As we know, the theme is that useful
gifts are better than dramatic ones. Anyways, Poseidon made a salty sea as gift to win
Athens. The Athenians disliked his gift. Athenas gift was an olive tree, which was
more useful and resourceful. She thought further ahead into the future and about the
Athenians needs. The text states, Their rivalry was so intense that they almost went
to war and just as they were about to attack each other, Athena, with her typical, wise
approach suggested that they should hold a contest for the city. In other

What Is D Artagnan Flawed
The character D Artagnan was flawed. In the beginning, the movie portrayed D
Artagnan as a great swordsman and can defend himself if needed; he was even
going to fight all of the musketeers! The problem is that D Artagnan got himself
knocked out or kidnapped quite a few times. I understand that he is new to this
musketeer life, but to be worthy of the position he should have been less reckless
and more skillful in his fighting. Another thing is when D Artagnan and Athos got
into a rough situation, he left Athos. The Musketeers motto is, all for one and one
for all, after all. Athos was proving that he is a musketeer for a reason, and he
threatened D Artagnan to leave. Athos was risking his life for the safety of the King
and Queen, and the people of France; that is what a musketeer should be doing....

D Artagnan should have either stayed and helped, or he should have sent someone to
help Athos. Instead, he left him all alone. Another characterwho should have gotten
help was Constance. When D Artagnan was fighting the man who had killed his
father, it was apparent that Constance had just watched because after D Artagnan
won, she went and held his hand. She could have gotten help from a musketeer or
a townsperson. I understand that he, rightfully so, should be the one to avenge his
father, but for a good bit, D Artagnan looked like he was going to lose the fight. In
all, I thought that Constance was a useless person. She never helped or did anything
besides add in a little romance. On the topic of romance, the movie should have
focused a bit more on Athos and Milady de Winter s relationship. If I hadn t already

Queen Isabella played a role in the case also. She tried the case a total of seven

9. There were many individuals who claimed the Africans as their own. Most of the

Analysis Of Isbell And Wright s Night Watch On The
Amazon
Introduction Isbell and Wright s articles both focus on monkey species and their
native environments, Africa for Isbell s (1994) vervet Old World monkey and
South America, Peru area, for Wright s (1994) owl and titis monkeys. The articles
main focus is the relationship between these monkeys and their natural predators.
Focusing on how the predator aspect of their lives is determined by their
environment and adaptations they make to ensure survival. Isbell s Vervets Year
of Doom focuses more on the adaptations that was forced upon the vervets because
of their changing environment, the death of fever trees. While Wright s Night

relationship with predators and the likelihood of attacks. Both articles have similar
aspects however the species way of life, specifically their environment and sleep
schedule, are quite different as well as the authors way of observing and studying
the primates within their habitats. Summarize: Within Lynne Isbell s article The
Vervets Year of Doom she explains the significant decrease within the vervet, an Old

Analysis Of Blue Ocean Strategy By W. Chan Kim And
Renee...
Introduction
There are abundance of business books trying to explain the success or failure of
companies in terms of the characteristics of the companies, their leadership
capability, great products ideas etc. But success of a company is never perpetual
and follows a cycle of high and low performance. More often than not, these
companies perform worse than industry, or fail to sustain the growth for a long
time. For example, Hewlett Packard performed better than market for a long enough
time, but did poorly soon afterwards with same the good products and leadership
(Page 10). Therefore, the company itself is not a very good unit to measure success
or failure; it s the strategies the companies take, which decide the success or failure of
the company. And the Blue Ocean Strategy, the term introduced in the book Blue
Ocean Strategy: How to Create Uncontested Market Space and Make Competition
Irrelevant , by W. Chan Kim and RenГ©e Mauborgne, is one, which ensures a
company to have a long stretch of uncontested success away from the competition.

The Creation Of Teddy Bears Built A Sense Of Self
The Creation of Teddy Bears Built a Sense of Self in our Children
Children are the freshman in this world. They are discovering the world, and at the
same time, themselves. In their early stages of exploration positive and negative
experiences are gained, in which they approach different methods to manage their
emotions and learn from them. In the reading, Transitional Objects as Objectifiers of
the Self in Toddlers and Adolescents by Johanna K. Tabin, the author mentions that
the bond created between toys and children helps them obtain power to transition
from one frightful life situation to another. Likewise, Elena O. Smirnova, the writer
of Character toys as psychological tools, explains that a child s self reflects on their
persona by communicating with a toy; thus, these toys are called character toys.
Both writers agreed that toys play a major role in the construction of children s sense
of self. Additionally, these authors also implied that there are special toys that
children connect to. Carmen Rosa Caldas Coulthard and Theo Van Leeuwen argued,
in Teddy BearStories, that children are mostly attracted to teddy bears because of its
physicality and similar behavior. Thus, teddy bears are commonly children s favorite
toy of choice, which teddy bears become children s transitional object and character
toy. This paper will argue that teddy bears help children create a sense of self by
allowing them to reflect about their inner thoughts, explore their
Diction Of Those Winter Sundays
In the poem, Those Winter Sundays the speaker talks about his father leaving for
labor . Curiously, the father goes to work on a Sunday, the speaker then elaborates
how his father goes to work very early with cracked hands that ached (3). The theme
of this poem is that love does not always appear in a friendly or lovable form. Lines
like I would rise and dress/fearing the chronic angers of that house (8 9), we can see
that the speakerlives in a dysfunctional house and imagery of cold and harshness

the speaker and the father have a dysfunctional relationship, the chronic angers of that
house (9) The diction the author uses, can be used to give

The Egyptian Revolution Essay
Introduction The economy of any civilization is inherently dependent on a well
founded political system. A well founded political system, on the other hand,
largely impacts on the social well being of the people. In this regard, all these
factors, as Abdou Zaazou (2013) afford, are deeply interrelated in the sense that they
converge to provide a favorable environment for socio economic development. At the
start of the Egyptian revolution in 2011, the country was largely plagued by
inconsistency as it pertained to the equitable distribution of wealth, and the lack of
social justice (Mossallem, 2013). As a matter of fact, Wahba (2011) provides that it
was the tyrannical rule of former President Hosni Mubarakthat inadvertently led to
the resentment expressed by the general public at Tahrir Square. Many commentators
on the Egyptian revolution have always attested to the increasing police brutality of
civilians, uncontrolled high levels of corruption in government circles, the lack of
freedom of speech, and the lack of elections, as some of the intrinsic factors that
stimulated the occurrence of the 2011 revolution. While it is important to recognize
the role of the revolution in ousting authoritarianism in Egypt, it is also imperative that
we recognize the resulting implications, many of which have negatively impacted on
the economic state of Egypt, resulting in a raging economic crisis. The International
Bank for Reconstruction and Development (2013) provides that economic
Media Journal A Critical Analysis of The Daily Show with...
The Daily Show pronounces itself as a fake news program, and it pulls its comedy
and satire from current news reports, politicians, media companies, and often, features
of the show itself. The show usually begins with an extended monologue from host,
Jon Stewart, communicating new headlines and regularly includes discussions with
several correspondents, who assume ridiculous or amusingly overstated takes on
recent events against Stewart s straightforward character. The concluding segment
contains a celebrity interview, with guests varying from authors and political
figures to actors and musicians. Critics contend the show is a major source for news
for the 18 to 34 year old age group because of their satire and sharp witted lampoon of

Newscasters current view of balance is to report both sides of an issue, despite the
consequences. Straightforward news has descended into a wacky belief that replaces
balance for accuracy and truth.
Virtually every matter can be described as a debate between two conflicting sides,
and the journalist is apprehensive of expressing that one side has it right, and the
other side does not. It leaves the audience in the position of having to consider
opposing factual assertions, often without enough info to properly choose that one
side is clearly right, and the other side is striving to create doubt with propaganda.
Interpretation
An interpretation of the show reflects that many viewers consider Stewart a
reputable, true journalist who provides a genuine take on current events. Many
watchers obtain their news and opinions from his show. Comparing the show s news
outline with that of the more conventional news media and investigating the listing of
guests and segments, then placing the program into some kind of media framework
shows the structures are quite similar. This leads to the audience giving credibility to
the show as an authentic source for news. There are questions raised on how Stewart
achieves this. What is Stewart accomplishing on his program, The Daily Show with
Jon Stewart, which may affect people to believe him as a trustworthy commentator?
How is the show comparable to, and unlike from, what people get from the
mainstream media? The
Mise-En-Scene, Editing And Cinematographic Elements In

The Godfather , a crime noir film produced in 1972, is about an aged patriarch of a
famous mafia dynasty that transfers control of his business to his disinclined son.
It was directed by Francis Ford Cappola and stars actors such as Al Pacino and
Marlon Brando. The film s numerous achievements, specifically in the opening
sequence, stem from the exemplary utilization and integration of misГ© en scene,
editing, and cinematographic elements. Mise en scene is a key element in the
representation of a character. For example, the film begins with a slow jazz
soundtrack, a characteristic of thriller films during the 1970 s. Then a plain black
background streches across the screen, setting the stage for what is about to appear
in front of us. Black... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This scene is edited with a very slow pace that creates a sense of calm and suggests
the control that Don Corleone has over the situation. The sequence begins with a
close up on Amerigo Bonasera as he stares in the camera while it zooms out, telling
the audience about his daughter s rape. William Reynolds and Peter Zinner, the
lead editors of the film, used this shot, that spans the next three minutes of the film,
to add a sense of insecurity and rising tension. It also is used to reveal Bonasera is
talking to a mysterious figure disguised by the shadows and that three other men are
present, but without giving the setting of the scene or who these men are. Then,
they break the three minute shot by giving the audience their first glance at the
mysterious figure in the shadows. They cut to a medium shot of Don Corleone, the
leader of this organized crime dynasty, finally revealing this shadowy figure to the
audience, relieving them of some tension. The camera shifts location again in order
to reveal the scene, something like an establishing shot. Here, they reveal four male
characters, all dressed in suits, and the only lights coming from the slats in the
blinds and the sole artificial light on the right side of the room. Don Corleone is also
placed in the center of this shot with every other character facing him, giving him a
sense of power. Next, they cut to a medium shot of the godfather sitting

John Locke Innate Argument Analysis
In Book I of, An Essay Concerning Human Understanding, John Locke presents his
argument against innate ideas. Innate ideas are ideas that the human mind has had
since birth. Philosophers like Descartes are well known for their defense of innate
ideas. For example, Descartes argues that the ideaof God is an innate one and that all
humans are born with the idea of god inside of themselves and they recognize this
innate idea when they compare themselves to God and see what it is they lack
(humans are finite, while God is infinite). Locke, on the other hand, is of the belief
that ideas are not innate but rather are gained through experience.
Locke s first reason for disproving innate ideas is that just because an idea is agreed
upon by everyone in the world doesn t prove that it s innate. He writes, If it were true

Children and idiots (the mentally impaired) do not have access to these innate ideas,
they must be taught these ideas later on, if possible. Locke writes, the lack of that is
enough to destroy that universal assent which must be the necessary concomitant of
all innate truths, (pg.319). A counter argument against this claim is that children and
idiots DO have access to these innate ideas (the ideas are imprinted on the soul ), they
just don t understand them. Locke writes that this is a contradiction, it doesn t make
sense to him that an idea could be imprinted on the mind without the mind being able
to understand it. Locke argues that, Imprinting, if it signifies anything, being nothing
else but the making certain truths to be perceived. For to imprint anything on the
mind without the mind s perceiving it seems to me hardly intelligible, (pg.319). If
children and idiots really do have access to innate ideas then they must be able to
understand these ideas as well, and because they don t, it further proves that these
ideas don t
Visual Art Plan By Otto Dix And James Gleeson
Visual art Plan
Artists all around the world have used metaphor in their pieces of work to convey
meaning. A figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or
action to which it is not literally applicable. Most if not all pieces of art you can see
in a museum or out on the street have remanets of metaphor beneath them. Artists
use metaphor in their work to tell a story or a time period or in this case meaning.
As the old saying goes a picture is worth a thousand words. The artist distorts the
image to the way he or she wants to see it or would want others to see it. For
example, Otto Dix and James Gleeson are artists that are known for having and using
metaphor and spirituality in their pieces of work. Otto Dix has ... Show more content

Otto Dix was a great artist. His paintings were very strong with spirituality and
metaphor this was because he served in the first world war. Many of his paintings
were of the first wold war because Dix volunteered and became a machine gunner
which exposed him to see death daily. Through his experiences in the war he
gained a lot of knowledge and saw a lot of things. One of his pieces stood out to me
the most. That piece was the wounded soldier. In this picture I can see a muddy
ground with blood splattered everywhere. The ground and the soldier almost looks
like he is decaying. The soldiers face has an expression of confusion and elements
of fear across him. Given his mouth is wide open it looks like he is in enormous
amounts of pain and looks like he is screaming. This could be the face of a person
going through their last seconds before they die or get shot. His hand is squeezing
his heart like he got shot in the area. His helmet seems to be dirty and bloody as
almost like he has been here for a long time.
The work has been put together very well according to the elements and principles
of art. The lines in the art work are very bold and revealing. The lines are clearly
outlining the wounded soldier and what is movements and actions are at the current
time of him being painted. The colour of this art work is in black and white but
even though it is in black and white Dix has done a good job of telling us what
things are
Self-tranquility and Love in the Book A Perfect Day for...
The word, bananafish may seem like one of the many imaginary words of a child,
but this was actually thought up by a character named Seymour Glass; a man with
the mind of a non adolescent, and the body of a grown person. Married and in love,
Seymour goes off to fight in World War II. Upon his return, he suffered from Post
Traumatic Stress Disorder. Therefore mentally setting him back for the rest of his
life. For example, through the course of the story, a reader may notice how he
tends to block off most of the people who care about him. J.D. Salinger lived with a
similar mindset to Seymour; he blocked off, not only his loved ones, but society
overall. At the time of writing, A Perfect Day for Bananafish, he had an interest in
Zen Buddhism. In Zen Buddhism, self tranquility is a very strong factor to
practicing the religion. However, they both may be private, but Seymour Glass has
the mindset of a child, due to the war trauma. Sybil, a child Seymour meets on the
beach, is a symbol for Seymour s mind. His childlike mindset causes him trouble
adjusting to the reality of society. The cruel reality for Seymour is the greed the
people in his life have. Therefore the term Banana Fever is a reference to the greed
in society. Just like the Bananafish are greedy for bananas, humans are greedy as
well. So, while everyone is infected with Banana fever. Seymour turns to a serious
solution. With this being said, In the story, A Perfect Day for Bananafish JD Salinger

The Importance Of Big Data
In today s world, the amount of unstructured data collected is humungous. This
unstructured data is of no use if it is not properly processed, analyzed and evaluated.
Using this data for the betterment of mankind is what most of the largest companies
like Google, Facebook, Amazon, Netflix and much more are targeting. Big data is a
term for datasets which are so large and complex that traditional database systems
such as MS SQL, MySQL, etc., are incapable of handling them. It is not the amount
of data that is important, but what organizations do with data that matters the most.
Data can be mapped to useful information which can be further utilized for analyzing
and drawing insights that lead to better management practices and strategic... Show

In the map phase, a block of live chat conversation data is read and processed to
produce key value pairs as intermediate outputs. This output is then fed to the
Reducer. The Reducer then aggregates those intermediate data tuples (key value
pairs) into a smaller set of tuples which is the final output.
Apache Spark is considered as a powerful complement to Hadoop; it is more
accessible, powerful and capable big data tool for tackling various big data
problems. Its architecture is based on basically two kind of abstractions: Resilient
Distributed Datasets (RDD) and Directed Acyclic Graphs (DAG). RDDs are a
collection of data items that can be split and can be stored in memory on worker
nodes of a spark cluster. The DAG abstraction of Spark helps eliminate the Hadoop
MapReduce multistage execution model.
As Rajiv Bhat, Senior Vice President of Data Sciences and Marketplace at InMobi
rightly said, Spark is beautiful. With Hadoop, it would take six seven months to
develop a machine learning model. Now, we can do about four models a day . The
question here is is Apache Spark more efficient than Apache Hadoop? Why are
companies moving towards Apache Spark? Does it have any advantages over
traditional Hadoop? Firstly, Spark and Hadoop cannot be compared. Apache Spark
is a cluster computing framework whereas Hadoop is a framework which consists of
different components like HDFS, MapReduce, etc. MapReduce is Hadoop s cluster
computing framework. So,

Controversy arose in the when a pair of experts, together with Melinek and Dr.
Michael Graham, told reporters that Brown s wounds were in line with Wilson s
rationalization of events, but Melinek later told reporters that her words had been to
a certain extent been misconstrued. She said that she had judged the forensic proof
in the official autopsy report and the officers statements were totally consistent.
Given that the report showed the wound to Brown s right arm was close by and in
line to the barrel of the officer s gun when it discharged, it may mean he had was
reaching for the gun.
To make herself clearer, she said that the teen reaching out for the gun is not the only
explanation for the officer to shot. It is the officer who said that he was going for the
gun and the right arm wound supports that. She admitted to having limited
information on that report and confirmed it may also be consistent with other
circumstances. This shows that for justice to be serviced the witnesses needs to talk
to the grand jury while the jury listens to all the unprejudiced testimony and contrast
those statements to the physical evidence.
The autopsy found the fatal shots came from a downward action into the top of the
teens head. All except one of the gunshots, seemed to have struck him in the front of
his body, consistent to what the witnesses said, and he had been facing the

Definition Of Murder
Every kid grows up being told what is right and what is wrong. Do not take the
other kids toys that is bad. Share your snack that is good. The idea of bad feels
elementary; it is something we have been surrounded by our whole life. However,
the term might not be so easily defined.
Murder is considered unmoral in nearly every culture, however every culture sends
people to war. Murder is the act of taking another life, but is defined loosely. Soldiers
are not considered murders, and rightfully so, even though they take lives. Instead of
changing the ideas surrounding murder the definition of murder is changed. What
was once considered a violent, cruel act is now seen as heroism. The circumstances
that surround the act define the act itself.
Ken Elton Kesey Essay
Ken Elton Kesey, author and guru of the hippie generation, was born on September
17, 1935, in La Junta, Colorado. However, Kesey was brought up in Springfield,
Oregon, where his parents had a dairy farm and he was prominent in wrestling, as
well as playing football. Kesey also developed an interest in theatre at the University
of Oregon at this time, but a scholarship for his accomplishments in wrestling
deterred him from pursuing an acting career.
After marrying Norma Faye Haxby, Kesey s high school girlfriend, he considered a
career as an actor once more, but instead he won a scholarship to the graduate
program in writing at Stanford University (A E Networks Television, 23 Mar. 2016)
and enrolled there in 1958 (Public Broadcasting Service, n.d.). While attending
Stanford in 1960, Kesey began volunteering as a paid experimental subject by the
U.S. Army. During these experiments, he was given mind altering drugs and told to
report on the effects. Simultaneously, he worked as an attendant in a psychiatric ward

Sometimes these events would include guests such as the Warlocks, or The Grateful
Dead. The Merry Pranksters were temporarily interrupted when Kesey was charged
for possessing marijuana. To avoid being arrested, he faked a suicide note and fled to
Mexico. The following year, Kesey returned to the United States and endured a six

Personal Response Essay. Personal response essay format

  • 1. Personal Response Essay Writing a Personal Response Essay can be a challenging task, as it requires a delicate balance between personal reflection and critical analysis. The difficulty lies in weaving one's thoughts, emotions, and experiences into a coherent and compelling narrative while still maintaining a scholarly tone. Firstly, expressing personal opinions and feelings can be intricate, as it requires introspection and a deep understanding of one's own thoughts and reactions. It demands the writer to be open and vulnerable, sharing personal insights without veering into overly subjective territory. On the other hand, crafting a response that is academically sound involves analyzing the subject matter critically, drawing connections to relevant theories or concepts, and presenting a well- structured argument. Striking this balance between personal expression and academic rigor can be a demanding task, requiring careful consideration of each element. Moreover, ensuring that the essay remains focused and coherent is a challenge. The risk of straying off-topic or becoming too disjointed is ever-present when blending personal experiences with analytical elements. It requires meticulous planning and organization to maintain a logical flow and engage the reader effectively. In conclusion, writing a Personal Response Essay demands a high level of self-awareness, critical thinking, and writing proficiency. It requires the author to navigate the fine line between personal expression and scholarly analysis, making it a task that necessitates both creativity and discipline. For those seeking assistance or looking to explore similar essay topics, a variety of resources are available. • 2. The Need to Control Water Pollution When you turn on the tap and drink a glass of water, Does it taste funny? Is it clear? The water you are drinking may be toxic without any such indicators. Water is all around us; it is essential for life. Over two thirds of earth s surface is covered by water, but everyone only wants and need clean water. Each year, water pollution increases and continues to be responsible for harming our environment. According to Duhigg (2009) of the New York Times, more than 100 wells were polluted by agricultural runoff within a few month time period, affecting livestock such as pigs and cows . Water pollution is a silent and deadly pollution bacterium can be tasteless, colorless, and scentless. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) (2009) says that the United States has the safest water supplies in the world, but states that when water sources became contaminated, they can easily cause widespread sickness and disease from waterborne germs including Cryptosporidium, E. coli, Hepatitis A., and other pathogens. Despite progress reducing water pollution from the largest sources, our country still faces serious pollution challenges. Violations are still too widespread, and enforcement too uneven. We need to do better controlling pollution. Water pollution can occur through natural process, but many times water pollution is mostly a result of human activities. Water is used every day in our homes and industries; the average of water use in the United States is
  • 3. Edward Snowden and Wikileaks Since the beginning of modern technology people have worried about being looked upon or spied on without their knowing. Even before the internet was invented some people worried about their phone calls being recorded or listened in on without their knowledge. In 1997 when the internet was common in most households this made this idea of people being spied on much easier and on a wider scale. The first proven threat of internetsurveillancewas in 2001 when the NSA(National Security Agency) did a Large scale warrantless surveillance (Risen Bush Lets U.S Spy ) of internet traffic and data streams. This surveillance program was a way to gather data and prevent terrorist attacks. However some speculated that this was not just to monitor the activities of suspected terrorists. In 2013 when Edward Snowden released data that proved that the NSA was using their surveillance on everyone it turned speculation into fact and fears of this were brought to the surface. In the summer of 2013 one of the biggest leaks of classified documents was carried out by a man named Edward Snowden (E. McAskill) . Edward Snowden worked as an sysamin (System Administrator) for a security company that did contract work for the NSA. During his time working at this company he released an estimated two hundred thousand classified documents. Within these documents was evidence that the United States was performing a large scale surveillance operation of its people (B. Denson). It is estimated that

She also went through poverty, and her alcoholic father died when she was young. Her mother was a nurse at a hospital, which was the only way they were making money. When she became older she was discriminated because she was a latina that wanted to be a Judge. But sotomayor overcame discrimination by reporting and the ignoring the situation. Sotomayor then finally became one of the most supreme, and superior judge in the U.S. Although Sotomayor went Through tough times before she became a judge, she had an independent life with No one to take care of her. Although she was independent
  • 5. Car Pollution Essay The words pollution and automobile are synonymous, and as long as vehicles still use fossil fuels to run, that won t change. Consumers, communities, and the environment are key stakeholders the auto industry has to consider when it comes to pollution. More energy efficient, hybrid or electric vehicles can increase customer satisfaction and add to the company s business performance. For instance, fuel consumption is an assumption of performance and is very important for consumers. Thus, automotive companies have to come up with great designs with minimal consumption of resources and raw materials; engines that give more mileage and less fuel consumption. Given that consumers are the most important stakeholders, communities of these consumers also want vehicles with the lowest emissions possible with hopes of keeping the air around them clean and healthy. Once again, these informal bands and communities of consumers have large amounts of power based on buying power alone, and can significantly impact an automobilecompany s business. A vehicle s environmental impact can be easily measured through miles per gallon and measures of emissions. In 2011, President Barrack Obama and automobile companies agreed to raise fuel efficiency standards to meet an average of 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025. This will lead to more fuel efficient vehicles that will consume less gas, thus burning less fuel and emitting fewer emissions into the air. Also, according to the Obama administration, this
  • 6. Catherine De Medici Research Paper Catherine de Medici was a French lady who was married into the royal family at the age of fourteen in the sixteenth century. She was different than other women during this time period, and she enjoyed studying astrology and the arts. She was also the one who ordered the Tuileries to be built. She formed a very close relationship with the King and her father in law, King Francis I, and even named one of her children after him. However, her husband and the King s son, Henry, despised Catherine, and openly had an affair with another mistress named Diane. Despite this, he and Catherine still tried to have children, yet failed the first few years of their marriage. Catherine was shamed by the people for not having children at this point, and some... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Later on, King Francis I passed away due to illness and old age, which caused despair both throughout the kingdom and to Catherine. Despite his death, the wars went on, and Catherine used his death to her advantage. She dressed in all black and begged the court to give France s army more money for funding, which they allowed. She did this because she knew that the King would have wanted their army to keep fighting. Later, Catherine s husband was stabbed through the eye during a jousting match and died, which also caused great sadness in Catherine s heart. Her son, Charles, became the new king. He was young and unfit to rule, so the Guise family watched over and directed him. However, the Guises were malicious and loved bloodshed, so they used this opportunity to cause more wars and battles between France and other countries. They also ordered all Protestants will be executed if they were caught practicing their beliefs in public. Although Catherine was a Catholic, she knew the executions and torturing of the Protestants were wrong, yet she could do nothing because of her gender and lack of royal
  • 7. The Boy In The Striped Pajamas Analysis World war II in Germany was a dull time for the Jews, hence they were discriminated against by the germans. Ethnicity plays a big role in this movie because it is the reason that the Jews are locked away in the concentration camps. The movie is a representation of Political Power becomes Personal Authority (Nichols, 2010, P.275) in the sense that Aldorf Hitler took advantage of the vulnerable Jews. This essay will discuss the differences between the Jews and Germans during WW II through race and ethnicity. This will be supported from examples in the two scenes chosen, book vocabulary, as well as the formal and social content to analyze the scenes. The movie The boy in the Striped Pajamas: is about an 8 year old, privileged German boy named Bruno, who loves exploring, is forced to move away from Berlin with his family to the Countryside during World War II. This is because, his father has just gotten promoted to Commandment by Hitler himself and was asked to live closer to the concentration camps. Bruno starts exploring the new area, and soon finds this barbed wired area where he meets a Jewish boy named Shmuel. Shmuel is held in the concentration camps, however Bruno does not find out the truth until the near end of the movie. Bruno and Shmuel form an undesirable bond that later in the movie causes many tragical events. Throughout the two scenes I have chosen to discuss, there are some similarities. First and foremost, these similarities include, the main idea of
  • 8. Personal Teaching Philosophy Through my experiences working in the education field and the classes I have taken at Cal State LA, I have developed a personal teaching philosophy that will be implemented in my future classrooms. My experiences working with middle school and high schools students have led me to pursue a career in teaching. For three years, I worked as an Advancement via Individual Determination (AVID) tutor at my former high school helping students with their homework and problems they face. AVID is a college preparation program designed to help high school students become motivated and prepared to enter a four year university of their choice. I also was fortunate to work at the CSULA Reading and Writing clinic as a teaching facilitator during their Summer... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, by being admitted into this program, I feel I will be in the right path into becoming a trained teacher with some exposure on how to manage a classroom, work with diverse learnings, learn some pedagogical skills, present and develop lesson plans, and observe teachers. As a future educator, I firmly believe that all children are capable of learning and achieving success through the guidance, dedication, and support from a teacher. My philosophy and teaching styles may change throughout my teaching career, and I want to remain receptive to suggestions and open for improvement. Teaching young minds is a task that cannot be taken lightly. It is full of challenges, frustrations, and responsibilities. However, it is a task that is also full of excitement, wonder, and
  • 9. John Milton Essays Satan, as a character, has been satirized, mocked and made foolish in our modern world. John Milton, however, presents quite a different Satan from the devil on your shoulder image people are used to seeing. In Paradise Lost, Milton draws on the Bible for his source of Satan s character, thereby creating a horrifyingly corrupt Satan . Despite this portrayal, readersoften find themselves sympathizingwith Satan s cause, and his determination, viewing him as a hero for his cause, as evidenced by his long, brave speeches. Later, however Satan s speeches begin to show signs of regret, making the reader question their initial reaction to him. In the end the image of Satan is further skewed by his own incriminating speech. Thus, the speeches of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He says: how glorious once above thy sphere; Till pride and worse ambition threw me down Warring in Heav n against Heav n s matchless King: Ah Wherefore! he deserved no such return From me, whom he created what I was In that bright eminence, and with his good Upbraided non, nor was his service hard (4.39 45) Looking back, Satan sees that his actions against God were not fully justified. He recalls how glorious things were, even calling God the matchless King . He further decides that things were better than he thought, noting that the service was not bad, and that he probably owed service to God for creating him. After thinking about this, though, Satan attempts to justify his actions by saying O had his powerful destiny ordained/ Me some inferior angel, I had stood/ Then happy; no unbounded hope had raised/ Ambition (4.58 61) . Satan feels that it was his prominent position that forced him to become so ambitious, and that none of these feelings would have emerged if he had been a lesser angel. This inner battle leads the reader to become slightly suspicious about Satan s description of himself in earlier books, and their own interpretation of his earlier words. It becomes difficult to view Satan as a hero, when his own words call into doubt everything for which he stands. While Satan s ultimate decision is to carry through with his plan, the reader is invited to look through this decision,
  • 10. Celsius, Fahrenheit, And Kelvin Introduction The most commonly used temperature units in science lab were Celsius, Fahrenheit, and Kelvin. These three units can use certain equation to change its units from one to another. The specific heat is a term for a number of calories in heat needed to raise the temperature of 1g of substance by 1ВєC. A thermometer, beakers, and calorimeter were frequently used in this lab. Procedure The initial temperature of the water was measured when it is in beaker. When the salt is added, it is concluded how salt can lower the water temperature. The temperature was measured in Celsius and was changed to both Fahrenheit and Kelvin. The second experiment involved the heat exchange between metal and water. The metal in beaker and water in calorimeter
  • 11. William Shakespeare s A Great British Author A Great British Author William Shakespeare was one of the greatest poets, playwright, and actor. He composed numerous plays, sonnets, and poems. Shakespeare was born in Stratford. His precise birthday is not known, but it is thought to be April 23, because according to church records, he was baptized on April 26, 1564. During this time babies were typically baptized when they were 3 days old. Shakespeare s father was John Shakespeare, who was a glove maker and a tradesman. His mother was Mary Arden. Shakespeare was married to Anne Hathaway on November 1582. Shakespeare was 18 at the time of the wedding and Anne was 26. Their first child, Susanna was born 6 months after the wedding in 1583. In 1585 they had fraternal twins, A son, Hamnet and a daughter named Judith. Hamnet passed away when he was 11 years old, possibly from bubonic plague. Many believe that the play Hamletwas about Hamnet Shakespeares son. After 3 years of marriage, Shakespeare moved to London. His wife Anne and children stayed behind in Stratford. One of my favorite Shakespeare plays is Hamlet. The story develops with the late King Hamlet appearing to his child, requesting retaliation on his sibling, the King Claudius, which is an occasion prone to irritate the Crown Prince. Over the span of the show, Hamlet perseveres through numerous trials of his will and cognise compelling him to reinforce his feelings and the strategies by which he will execute them. Yet, through it
  • 12. Romani A Beautiful Country When people hear of the place Romania, not very many people know about its very existence, much less where it is located on a map. Romania is not a well known country, but it is somewhat known for its gypsies, castles, wine, and for Dracula himself. Romania is a beautiful country filled with amazing landscape such as fascinating forests, majestic mountains, and raging rivers. Romania also is a very warm culture and the people there are extremely friendly and hospitable. In order for one to know and understand much more about Romania, one would need to understand the changing culture, the people that helped change that culture, and the religion that has shaped the nation. Romanians will go to the utmost extreme of providing extravagant food, entertainment, and ceremonies. Before the wedding, the groom will visit the house of the bride to bring her to the place where the wedding will be held. All of the many people involved in the wedding then proceed in their cars to the wedding. Typically, they will drive leisurely and will honk at pedestrians to cheer for the couple. Once the procession reaches the place of the wedding, which will usually be an Orthodox church, the priest will lead the people into the main auditorium for the ceremony. The ceremony itself, which is comprised of the priest blessing the couple, reading from the Bible, and singing, could take up to three hours. After the ceremony, the couple drinks from the same glass of wine and eat the same piece of bread to symbolize unity. After the couple is unified, they proceed to visit the numerous pictures of Jesus and the saints and kiss them. Once the entire ceremony is over, the bride and groom normally take their guests to a restaurant of some sort to have refreshments and entertainment. Some weddings go as far as buying fireworks and lighting them after midnight symbolizing the first day of being married. This time of refreshing and entertainment could last between a weekend and a whole week. The final tradition that is most prominent in Romanian culture is funerals. When someone passes away, the family will wait three days before washing and
  • 13. The Opening Sequences of David Lean and Alfonso Cuaron s... The Opening Sequences of David Lean and Alfonso Cuaron s Film Version of Great Expectations In this media assignment I shall be analyzing and comparing the similarities and differences of two famous directors film versions of Great Expectations . The two directors are David Lean and Alfonso Cuaron. David Lean s version was more popular and well known than Alfonso Cuaron s because Lean was the first director to actually direct Great Expectations . This made it more difficult for Alfonso Cuaron because he had to bring the film up to date by making the film more modern and there have also been 10 other films based on the novel Great Expectations . David Lean had directed his version of Great ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is revealing to the audience that the film fits into the horror genre and is giving the audience clues about what the film will include, such as an ominous atmosphere and scenes of violence and gore. Lean has created this mood and theme so that the audience would want to know what the film actually contains, whether it is horror or drama. David Lean and Alfonso Cuaron are using the different techniques to keep the audience interested in the movie. The soundtrack of both versions is different because Alfonso Cuaron has played music throughout his opening frames. He has introduced sound effects such as waves that give the audience a pleasant sound to their ears; this same effect is employed with seagulls. The music that is actually played has a joyful and happy mood, which encourages the audience to think that the film is a non violent film. But when Magwitch appears from underneath the water in the tenth frame and grabs Pip, at this point the music changes from joyful and happy to dramatic and shocking. Cuaron deliberately did this to shock and alarm the audience from a happy and cheerful atmosphere to an explicit and up tempo atmosphere, this technique also keeps you interested in the film. On the other hand David Lean has only played music in his opening

The current animal cruelty laws should be more severe and enforced with worse repercussions. Once an individual is charged with abusing an animal, they should be prohibited from owning one forever instead of just months /years. Children that are responsible for animal abuse should be required to see a psychiatrist regularly, so they can learn to deal with their anger in a better way rather than taking it out on animals or people. For adults that are completely aware of their actions, there should be bigger fines and longer imprisonment terms to help discourage abusive behavior before it affects more than animals. For example, according to a report by the Boston Globe, both of the perpetrators in the Columbine High School shooting had an interest in mutilating animals. They went from animal abuse to murdering their classmates as teenagers. One prime example of animal abuse going without punishment takes live broadcasts to a whole new, horrible level. In Denmark during a radio show the host beat a baby rabbit named Allan to death with a bicycle pump. He claimed it was a humane way to put him down, although using a bicycle pump hardly seems so. The rabbit was only nine weeks old. So far the host hasn t been punished or charged with anything, and with the way things are going it seems unlikely he will be. Things need to change. The current laws for animal cruelty simply aren t enough, and unless we help make a difference they won t ever be. Animal abuse is a terrible crime that affects all living creatures around the world. In the U.S., you can take action by learning which laws exist in your area and work to strengthen them through petitions and writing to your government representatives. You should also learn how to report animal cruelty nearby. As these examples show, the punishment is often not even close in proportion to the crime. It s up to us to lend our voices to the

Abbot Suger Of St. Denis And The Rise Of Gothic Architecture Enrio Rico Evangelista Professor Rui de Sousa Medieval Civilization Section 11 18 November 2015 Abbot Suger of St. Denis and the Rise of Gothic Architecture Religion has always been a part of our identity. Today, the population wander around the world seeing these wonderful churches and religious buildings all around us. The architectural style of the Middle Ages was very prominent: high stone vaults, internal elevations of multiple stories, rounded arches, and thick walls. This was characterized as Romanesque architecture. Suger revolutionized everything. He reworked these ideas and introduced, to the world, what is now known as the Gothic architectural style. People were criticizing the new building and was not very keen of the idea of renovation. Suger still pushed for his project and fulfill his dreams to glorify the church. He began to rebuilt the church in 1137. One of the reasons behind this construction was that he was not contended with the dark and sinister style of Romanesque architecture. He wanted the church to be an expression of modernity and enlightenment. (Verdon and Dally 190 191). Suger considered it as modern because it was not heavy looking and inspiring. His critics, including Bernard of Clairvaux, called it Gothic because it was unrefined, barbaric and non Roman (Bradbury 295). These criticisms were all wrong because it was completely renewed and this symbolized the top achievement of the medieval civilization. However, they were right that it was completely not Roman. This building represented the apex of achievement because, after centuries of being under the influence of the Roman empire, Suger gave birth to something new, something extravagant and

In Montreal they placed a law that would prevent residents from adopting or buying pit bulls and would have required anyone who already owns one of the dogs to register the animal (Hauser 1) . According to an article in The New York Times this was because a woman was fatally mauled by a dog in June. This woman was 55 years old and was bitten and killed, the police officer said that a neighbor found the woman dead in a backyard. The dog was shot and killed because the police said that the dog was too aggressive for the officers to approach. The police also said that he did not know the breed of the dog (Hauser 2) . The Use Of Street Drugs Among Adolescents Introduction The use of street drugs among adolescents is a serious health problem in the United States and is the primary health risk behavior that contributes to unintentional injuries, homicide, and suicide, which are the leading causes of morbidity and mortality among children between the ages of 12 and 18 years (Patnode et al, 2014). Even when used infrequently, the risks for serious adverse effects increase due to behaviors of those intoxicated or impaired. There are numerous reasons as to why adolescents choose to experiment with various substances, including family structure, media exposure, socioeconomic status, or simply the desire to fit in. Whatever the cause is for each adolescent, it is important to apply early intervention and prevention in order to avoid the need for further specialized treatment for substance abuse. Family Structure and Adolescent Drug Use In 2009, Vanessa Hemovich and William D. Poseidon, the God known for his trident, acted dramatically towards winning Athens. As we know, the theme is that useful gifts are better than dramatic ones. In the beginning, the movie portrayed D Artagnan as a great swordsman and can defend himself if needed; he was even going to fight all of the musketeers! The problem is that D Artagnan got himself knocked out or kidnapped quite a few times. I understand that he is new to this musketeer life, but to be worthy of the position he should have been less reckless and more skillful in his fighting. Another thing is when D Artagnan and Athos got into a rough situation, he left Athos. The Musketeers motto is, all for one and one for all, after all. Athos was proving that he is a musketeer for a reason, and he threatened D Artagnan to leave. This shows the role Queen Isabella played in the Amistad Africans Case. 9. There were many individuals who claimed the Africans as their own. Most of the individuals who claimed the Africans claimed them for the financial benefit after selling them. Queen Isabella claimed them since they were in Spanish water which went back to the Pinckney s treaty. Montez and Ruiz claimed the Africans as cargo and since they were the captains it belonged to them. This shows why some of the individuals claimed the Africans. 12. Someone would have had to pay to send the Africans home. I feel it is the responsibility of the captains, Montez and Ruiz, because slaves were not supposed imported into the United States any longer. Also Montez and Ruiz had the Africans names changed so it would not look like illegal slave trade. The captains also treated the slaves horribly while aboard so the least that they could do is pay for the Africans to go home. This is how I feel about who should have to pay to send the Africans

The articles main focus is the relationship between these monkeys and their natural predators. Focusing on how the predator aspect of their lives is determined by their environment and adaptations they make to ensure survival. Isbell s Vervets Year of Doom focuses more on the adaptations that was forced upon the vervets because of their changing environment, the death of fever trees. While Wright s Night Watch on the Amazon focusses more on how the primates way of life affects their relationship with predators and the likelihood of attacks. Both articles have similar aspects however the species way of life, specifically their environment and sleep schedule, are quite different as well as the authors way of observing and studying the primates within their habitats. • 43. Analysis Of Blue Ocean Strategy By W. Chan Kim And Renee... Introduction There are abundance of business books trying to explain the success or failure of companies in terms of the characteristics of the companies, their leadership capability, great products ideas etc. But success of a company is never perpetual and follows a cycle of high and low performance. More often than not, these companies perform worse than industry, or fail to sustain the growth for a long time. For example, Hewlett Packard performed better than market for a long enough time, but did poorly soon afterwards with same the good products and leadership (Page 10). Therefore, the company itself is not a very good unit to measure success or failure; it s the strategies the companies take, which decide the success or failure of the company. And the Blue Ocean Strategy, the term introduced in the book Blue Ocean Strategy: How to Create Uncontested Market Space and Make Competition Irrelevant , by W. Chan Kim and RenГ©e Mauborgne, is one, which ensures a company to have a long stretch of uncontested success away from the competition. Key Concepts Red Ocean: A market space filled with several players competing with each other for profit and market share is a Red Ocean. Blue Ocean: An unexplored and unknown market space with no competition is a Blue Ocean. Value Innovation: Offering greater value to customers by reducing factors the industry competes on, and raising and offering unoffered factors, those the customer values more. In the reading, Transitional Objects as Objectifiers of the Self in Toddlers and Adolescents by Johanna K. Both writers agreed that toys play a major role in the construction of children s sense of self. Additionally, these authors also implied that there are special toys that children connect to. • 47. The Egyptian Revolution Essay Introduction The economy of any civilization is inherently dependent on a well founded political system. A well founded political system, on the other hand, largely impacts on the social well being of the people. In this regard, all these factors, as Abdou Zaazou (2013) afford, are deeply interrelated in the sense that they converge to provide a favorable environment for socio economic development. At the start of the Egyptian revolution in 2011, the country was largely plagued by inconsistency as it pertained to the equitable distribution of wealth, and the lack of social justice (Mossallem, 2013). As a matter of fact, Wahba (2011) provides that it was the tyrannical rule of former President Hosni Mubarakthat inadvertently led to the resentment expressed by the general public at Tahrir Square. Many commentators on the Egyptian revolution have always attested to the increasing police brutality of civilians, uncontrolled high levels of corruption in government circles, the lack of freedom of speech, and the lack of elections, as some of the intrinsic factors that stimulated the occurrence of the 2011 revolution. While it is important to recognize the role of the revolution in ousting authoritarianism in Egypt, it is also imperative that we recognize the resulting implications, many of which have negatively impacted on the economic state of Egypt, resulting in a raging economic crisis. It leaves the audience in the position of having to consider opposing factual assertions, often without enough info to properly choose that one side is clearly right, and the other side is striving to create doubt with propaganda. Mise en scene is a key element in the representation of a character. For example, the film begins with a slow jazz soundtrack, a characteristic of thriller films during the 1970 s. The sequence begins with a close up on Amerigo Bonasera as he stares in the camera while it zooms out, telling the audience about his daughter s rape. William Reynolds and Peter Zinner, the lead editors of the film, used this shot, that spans the next three minutes of the film, to add a sense of insecurity and rising tension. It also is used to reveal Bonasera is talking to a mysterious figure disguised by the shadows and that three other men are present, but without giving the setting of the scene or who these men are. Then, they break the three minute shot by giving the audience their first glance at the mysterious figure in the shadows. They cut to a medium shot of Don Corleone, the leader of this organized crime dynasty, finally revealing this shadowy figure to the audience, relieving them of some tension. • 51. John Locke Innate Argument Analysis In Book I of, An Essay Concerning Human Understanding, John Locke presents his argument against innate ideas. Innate ideas are ideas that the human mind has had since birth. Philosophers like Descartes are well known for their defense of innate ideas. For example, Descartes argues that the ideaof God is an innate one and that all humans are born with the idea of god inside of themselves and they recognize this innate idea when they compare themselves to God and see what it is they lack (humans are finite, while God is infinite). Locke, on the other hand, is of the belief that ideas are not innate but rather are gained through experience. Locke s first reason for disproving innate ideas is that just because an idea is agreed upon by everyone in the world doesn t prove that it s innate. He writes, If it were true in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Children and idiots (the mentally impaired) do not have access to these innate ideas, they must be taught these ideas later on, if possible. Locke writes, the lack of that is enough to destroy that universal assent which must be the necessary concomitant of all innate truths, (pg.319). A counter argument against this claim is that children and idiots DO have access to these innate ideas (the ideas are imprinted on the soul ), they just don t understand them. Locke writes that this is a contradiction, it doesn t make sense to him that an idea could be imprinted on the mind without the mind being able to understand it. Locke argues that, Imprinting, if it signifies anything, being nothing else but the making certain truths to be perceived. For to imprint anything on the mind without the mind s perceiving it seems to me hardly intelligible, (pg.319).
