What About Bob Psychological Analysis
As I watched the movie What About Bob? I noticed that there were a variety of different phobias and
disorders that the main character Bob had such as panic attacks, dependent personality disorder and
even obsessive compulsive disorder. Although these disorders were prominent throughout the film the
two that stood out to me the most were Agoraphobia and Personality Dependent Disorder.
Agoraphobia is a strong fear and anxiety of being in places where it may be hard to escape or even
where help may not be available (medlineplus.gov/ency/article). People that normally tend to have this
fear try to avoid public places in that they may feel there would be a very difficult way in them trying
to escape. In turn, this does make them have panic attacks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dependent personality, which can also be associated with anxious personality disorder, involves
feelings of nervousness and even fear (my.clevelandclinic.org/health/articles). It can also include
somewhat of a clingy behavior, making it hard to make everyday decisions without some type of
reassurance every other minute. DPD happens to be one of the most diagnosed disorders equally
among women and men. It normally does occur early if not middle adulthood, and the patient
typically needs to be taken care of (my.clevelandclinic.org/health/articles).
The symptoms that one may experience if they had Dependent Personality Disorder are more than
emotional that anything else. One would typically lean on others for emotional support, avoiding
personal related responsibility jobs, and even having separation issues
(my.clevelandclinic.org/health/articles). Also by the patient having confidence in their decisions they
would make, this is why they lean on others to somewhat guide them in the right direction. Or may
even just need to motivation and assurance that they are doing a great job on a day to day

Baroque And The Baroque Era
I. Baroque (began around 1600 1750).
A. The Baroque era began as artists were disgusted against the approach of Mannerist art. The
Baroque art movement combines dramatic works of arts, beautiful details, and emotionally stimulating
subject matter to give the viewer a powerful visual experience (Devlin, E. L. 2013) B. Artwork

Reviewing the Necessity of Punishment Essay
Reviewing the Necessity of Punishment
From On Crimes and Punishment by Cesare Beccaria is an excerpt from On Crimes and Punishment.
In his address to the public, particularly those in political positions, Beccaria discusses the way we as
a society choose to carry out the law. What he calls useless severity of punishment encompasses his
thoughts on extremes such as capital punishment and the cruelties that we allow our government to
inflict upon its own people in a failing attempt to bring order to our society. The death penalty has
plagued our society for centuries, perhaps beginning with the idea of human sacrifice that has been
turned around as a cycle of never ending death and cruelty. The writing techniques employed by ...

Cesare Beccaria is quick to point out the opposing view to his statement, then use it as reinforcement
for his own argument. Discussing capital punishment, he clearly states that many countries, if not
most, practice this and have done so for centuries. He doesn t give his audience much time to think
about that as he quickly calls the history of mankind a vast sea of errors, among which there float a
few confused truths, each one far from the next (68). Instead of just referring to the mistakes made in
our history, Beccaria calls them a vast sea of errors implying that these mistakes are so tremendous in
number and carry such weight with them that they have not been given enough credit for the tragedies
they have caused. It is also unclear if Beccaria is insulting his opponent, adding their opinion to this
vast sea of errors. In turn, the reader doesn t want their thoughts bunched with these erroneous
opinions. The author claims these mistakes are the effect of confused truths. To the reader, confused
truths equates fallacy. The diction is presented in an oxy moron fashion that reinforces his statement
with delicate language, leaving the audience to question his opponent s view. Adding these
complicated, descriptive words, Beccaria reinstates an argument more likely used by his opponent,
then slams the statement with vague evidence to make his audience give more thought to his argument

Augustus Caesar Research Paper
Augustus Caesar I chose to do my research paper on Augustus Caesar. The reason I chose him is
because there are few people in history to reach his level of dominance and authority that he
possessed. It was over two thousand years ago and his name is still very well known in history. He left
his mark on history like very few people that have ever live. In this research paper, I will first write
about his story to leadership and how he abstained power. Following this will be an in depth
breakdown of his leadership style and how he chose to lead others. Before I get in depth into his
history, you need to understand that he holds many names: Octavius, Octavian, Augustus, and
Augustus Caesar. The name Octavius was given to him at birth, and his ... Show more content on

While in his rein he implemented many incentives to build his army and to keep their loyalty. He first
began to pay his soldier, and doing this gave a reason to want to be a part of his army. Then to gain
respect and popularity within his city he began build up the city itself to make it more beautiful. He
also passed laws to help stabilize marriages, and did things to make his people want have families.
Doing this he raised the population tremendously, and the result only benefited him and his power. He
was so serious about the laws he passed regarding marriage, he banished his own daughter for
committing adultery. Before Augustus rein, Julius ran a wrecked ship when it came to politics. So
when Augustus stepped into his role he saw the need to restore and gain a foundation. Throughout his
time as ruler he knew it was crucial to keep the respect of his people and to keep intimidation in all of

And Quantity of water means the amount of water which is available for use. 3. Is water quantity or
quality the biggest issue in your local village/town/city? Why? Explain. Clean and abundant fresh
water is fundamental to human health, the environment and the economy. Canada is a water rich
country and with an estimated 7% of the world s renewable freshwater supply. overall national
freshwater quality is fair and Good. However, due to about 60% of the supply flows northward, while
most of the population is located in the southern regions. This change in temperature, rainfall and
snowfall can cause water quantities in rivers, lakes and reservoirs rise and fall throughout the year,
resulting in flooding or water shortages(Canada, 2015). 4. Are there disputes, violence or wars over
water in your local village/town/city? I don t think there are a big dispute, violence or wars or
something similar wars over water in Canada. Except the tiny islands where Canada and American are
at war. This tension is rising again over the ares called the grey zone, the last disputed lands between

Regret s Case Summary
Next, administration of oxygen is essential for all patients presenting signs of hypoxia (Higginson,
Jones, Davies, 2010). There are two types of devices available; low flow devices such as the nasal
cannula or a simple facial mask, and a non rebreathing mask used as a high flow device. The low flow
devices are used for the provision of oxygen in low concentration (two to four litres) whereas, a non
breathable mask can be used to provide 15 litres of oxygen to ensure 100% oxygen available to a
patient. In Margaret s case, if the SPO2 level does not improve the concentration of oxygen can be
improved to four litres. However, regular assessment and evaluation of care are crucial (Tait et al.,

Another important intervention to ease her breathing is to ensure Margaret is hydrated adequately.
Nurses need to encourage Margaret to drink plenty of fluids that helps loosen her thick sputum.
Furthermore, a nurse has a vital role in administering and educating about medication to all patients.
Nurses must follow the drug rules (Nurses Neighbourhood, 2017) to ensure their safety (Nursing
Midwifery Council (NMC, 2015). To ease Margaret s breathing, the studies show Inhalers containing
salbutamol and steroids drugs are beneficial (NICE, 2017c). Salbutamol act as bronchodilators,
whereas, steroids help to reduce the inflammation in the lungs. These medications work to open the
airways allowing an individual to breathe effectively. However, nurses make sure to evaluate the
effects of medication and observe for any side effects. Some people may get palpitation or shaking
hands (NICE, 2017d). Finally, it is the nurse s responsibility to record all care or intervention in the
care plans and report it to other health care professionals, so that continuity of care maintained
throughout the care (Barrett, Wilson Woollands, 2012)

Battle Between Snail Darter Fish and the Telico Dam Essay
The snail darter case can be a little ridiculous. Its between the 3 inch snail darter fish and then whether
to build the Tellico dam. The main eye attention to this argument is whether we should let the snail
darter fish live or not. If we build the Tellico dam to snail darters will die. On the other hand its a big
deal because the snail darters are on the endangered species list. In my opinion I m on the snail darter
fish side because I think the fish should live. The cost to build the dam is eighty million dollars. To me
that a lot of cash, how about you? I can understand how this case got serious and that some people
favor the side of the dam and some other favor the side of the snail darter like I do. Yes the snail darter

Tellico Dam serves to divert water through a short canal into Fort Loudon. This dam being built is
very good for trout and bass fishing. In the 1950 s thousands of dams were being built then in 1970 s
they decided to build a dam. In the Little Tennessee River. Its length was 3,238 feet its height was 129
feet. Total capacity is 467,600 acre feet, the surface area is 14,200 acres.
Another thing is the Endangered Species Act it is a very important part of this argument it is the main
problem of why the Tellico dam had to stop the process of building it for a while. Basically, the
Endangered Species Act is one of the dozens of United States environmental laws passed in the 1970
s. It also has a listing status which is ETC and it stands for Endangered Threatened Candidate. The
Endangered Species Act is an act to provide safety of the endangered and threatened species of fish,
wildlife, and plants, and for other purposes. My opinion too is that I think it is an amazing to have this
if we didn t have this some of our animals would be dead. Its great to know we still have people out
there who worship and care for all species of animals.
One of the reasons to keep the Snail Darters is because I care for all living things I really don t think
this fish should die. Plus it has no reason to die, what did it ever do to us?
Just because it is maybe three inches doesn t mean let it die! I say let it live. All of this mess with court

Firstly, Uncertainty reduction theory was written by Charles Berger, his theory focus on the way

Managing Religious Conflict in Therapy
Running Head: MANAGING RELIGIOUS CONFLICT Managing Religious Conflict within
Psychotherapy Ryan Hagen UMASS Lowell Abstract This paper discusses the relationship of religion
and psychology within the setting of interpersonal dynamic psychotherapy. It raises the question of
whether and to what extent religion should be included in a therapeutic setting. Varying perspectives
on this issue are reviewed, followed by an examination of the consequences of addressing religion
within therapy. Several examples are offered of potential pit falls a therapist may encounter in this
situation as well as suggestions for minimizing the likelihood of these occurrences. Two models are

In 1989, Richards, in a study of 100 Mormon patients, found that they were more trusting of therapists
who disclosed a belief in god. A lot of this depends on the patient. Quackenbos (et al 1986) outlined
four viewpoints or degrees of involvement a person may have with their religion, and how it is used to
interpret mental health. The four viewpoints are orthodox, moderate, neutralist and atheistic. These lay
on a continuum, where those with orthodox viewpoints believe mental problems are caused by sin,
and on the other end, atheistic sees mental problems as purely psychological. Another framework was
proposed by Batson and Ventis (1982). They argued that a therapist s need to understand the different
ways of being religious in order to understand the impact that religion may or may not have on their
patient. They created their framework around 3 dimensions, each of which has it s own continuum.
The 3 dimensions are quest, ends and means. The quest continuum measures the degree of importance
the individual places on existential questions, but does not necessarily feel an urgency to have
answered. An example of this would be an agnostic, or a philosopher who enjoys the process of
examining these kinds of questions. A person on the high end of this continuum would tend to have
doubts about religion, and be tentative about religious viewpoints. The means continuum

Production Process And Nutritional Value Of The Foods
Over the past few decades, Americans have become far more conscious of the production process and
nutritional value of the foods they consume. Founded in 1980 in Austin, Texas, Whole Foods Market
is an international supermarket chain that specializes in organic foods and products. As early as 1984,
Whole Foods began expanding across the South and, soon afterwards, expanded to major cities around
the U.S. with new stores and strategic acquisitions. Although organic grocers and health stores existed
prior to Whole Foods founding, founder and CEO John Mackey was the first to scale such a store to
national and later international heights, with over 430 stores to date. Whole Foods position as the first

Revenue and net income. Despite the United States slow economic recovery, Whole Foods Market has
nearly quadrupled their revenues over the past ten years, from $4.5 to $15.4 billion. Net income has
also quadrupled in the past ten years, from $150 to $536 million, and has more than doubled over the
past six. This success can be traced back to a history of discovery and innovation in the health and
wellness industry, as well as the cultivation of a lifestyle surrounding customers who shop at Whole
Foods that increases both customer retention and satisfaction.
Same store sales. These are an important metric because they indicate the ability of existing Whole
Foods stores to maintain customers and grow in the face of potential cannibalization and expanding
competition. Comparable store sales were positive every year but 2009 (the year of the Great
Recession). A concerning trend of slowing comparable store sales began in 2013. This trend can be
attributed to increased market saturation Whole Foods now has multiple stores in many major cities
but increased competition may be playing a significant role as well. Overall, growth is still increasing
on a store by store basis. While Whole Foods is still a successful company, a reversal of this declining
trend would be beneficial.
Worker efficiency. The efficiency of Whole Food s employees is indicative of the efficiency of
management.

Stakeholder Engagement Essay
In today s world for any business to be successful it needs to be a sustainable enterprise. There are a
number of ways to achieve sustainability using a number of different methods. A key aspect of
sustainability for any business is Stakeholder Engagement. Only by reaching out to all of their
stakeholders will a business be able to create a competitive advantage while still being sustainable.
Business sustainability is achieved when the business successfully manages the triple bottom line.
This is the process of managing the financial, social and environmental risk that a certain business will
face. The consequences of business sustainability are not only the long term success of the company
but also that it becomes an appealing opportunity for potential investors as sustainability is rapidly
becoming an increasingly vital component of any business.
The first step in covering stakeholder engagement is to first determine who a stakeholder is. A
common misconception is that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stakeholder Engagement can factor this into a company in a number of ways. For example, if the
company needs a new product supplied, rather than looking at the regular supplier the company can
look at more environmentally friendly options. A green company is normally well supported by the
community as well as by shareholders as an environmentally friendly company is often seen as a good
investment opportunity.
Another imperative principle of Stakeholder Engagement is that those involved in the engagement
must take responsibility. For there to be good governance within a company every relevant person
must engage continuously with the stakeholders.
Stakeholder Engagement is a critical part of any organisation. It is vital to the sustainability and if it is
managed correctly can lead to creating the necessary competitive advantage that a company needs in

The Pardoner s Tale Hypocrisy
The middle ages served a crucial role in the development of British literature, as many authors
allowed their wok to be influenced by the time. Stories from this period are loaded with imagery of
castles and knights. Along with aesthetic inspiration many authors also filled their stories with
medieval life. They would often base their stories on the tales of knights and peasants. By accurately
showcasing medieval life many authors, whether purposefully or unknowingly, captured a theme of
hypocrisy. Knights from the time often emphasised their moral character to the public. They boosted
in saying that their actions where chivalrous and that they followed god s path, however many of them
were simply lying. Many significant figures from the dark ages were hypocrites, therefore hypocrisy is
a common theme in medieval British lit. In order to accurately discuss the moral hypocrisy of
medieval work it is crucial to understand the morals of the time. In the medieval era the christian

Comparing The Celebrated Jumping Frog Of The Calaveras...
Mark Twain the writer of The Celebrated Jumping Frog of the Calaveras Country and Charles Dickens
the author of The Baron of Grogzwig , both presented disjunction as a literary technique to evoke a
numerous response from their readers. Disjunction was seen in Mark Twain s story during the part
when the story started in a way the narrator was in search for Leonidas Smiley and ended up getting
information about Jim Smiley. Just as the Baron who wanted to die but ended up realizing that it was
not worth it. For me, this literary technique caught the attention of most readers. In the story of The
Celebrated Jumping Frog of the Calaveras Country, symbolism, personification and flashback may be
seen too. Mark Twain, used the real politicians and symbolized them using animals that would fit their
own characteristics. Personification can be seen when the story of Jim Smiley was told, one perfect
example was when the frog Daniel Webster was educated and the literary technique that was used so

Methods Of Software Development Project Management
There are several methods of software development, out of these most practically used are agile
methodology and the plan driven approach this is a summary of both the approach and their
comparison and compatibly with the user requirement for the better results and hybrid technique
which resulted in combination of agile methodology and plan driven method with a comprehensive
spectrum of tools and options
Agile development is a methodology, it s not a tool, it s not the exact way of communicating, it s a
whole methodology, it s also a type of project management, but it s really a way of working as a team,

It s very collaborative process, for a team following the agile methodology for developing an
application, everybody should be collaborating with each other at every stage of developing the
application, these are the key points about agile methodology, with the agile methodology the changes
can be made without getting the entire program rewritten, this approach not only reduced over heads it
also helps in upgrading of programs, the other advantage of agile methodology it ensures that bugs are
caught and eliminated in the development of each cycle and the project is tested every time. There are
different types of agile methodologies they are XP (extreme process), Scrum, Lean software
development, AUP (agile unified process), FDD (feature driven development) all these agile
methodologies are customer driven and are light weight approaches, they are collocated and
collaborative for developers, in the view of customers this method is dedicated, knowledgeable
,collocated, representative and empowered. Rapid changes in the requirement and need for new
requirements, architecture is designed for only current requirements and architecture may change
accordingly with the change in requirements. Refactoring is inexpensive, so n number of changes can

Islam And The Beliefs Of Islam
Though Islam is usually defined in today s society as a religion that actualizes a terrorist cult called
Isis. Terrorism is defined as where men and women go rogue and commit acts of evil. Islam is not
that, nor does it create terrorists. Terrorists are not following Islam. Killing people and blowing people
up and dropping bombs in places and all this is not the way to spread the word of Islam. So people
realize now terrorists are not Muslim. Muhammad Ali. The strong person is not the good wrestler.
Rather the strong person is the one who controls himself when he is angry. Unknown. Islam in
America has gotten a bad rep because of the terrorist group known as Isis . Isis claims they pursue the
faith of Islam and always take the Credit when an attack happens on the peoples, or a country. In the
following paragraphs I plan on separating Islam into three defining categories that are the following
Devotion, Peace, and Balance. Devotion is a characteristic of many of the followers of Islam have.
Devotion is defined as the love or enthusiasm for or about a person, activity, or cause. In the Muslim
faith followers must be devoted to the words of Allah and follow them vigorously. In Islam followers
must be devoted because they must follow every command in order to reach their version of heaven.
They must pray every day and go on some pretty daring adventures, including fasting and migrating to
another city. Peace, it is a feeling every human and animal deserves to feel.

How Does George Orwell Use Literary Techniques In 1984
1984 Essay
In his novel 1984, how does George Orwell use literary techniques in order to position readers to
consider Government Control?
1984 is a novel that was published by George Orwell in 1949. Orwell uses different literary techniques
throughout the novel to show the reader how he saw the future in thirty five years time. To show
manipulation, power, rebellion and loyalty, Orwell uses different literary techniques to show the
reader the key ideas of the novel. The reader can tell from the start of the novel that the novel has a
boring and bleak society because the first few words of the novel read It was a bright cold day
(Orwell, 1949) which shows that it is not a happy society. The novel was set in Oceania, 1984 which
would have been the future at the time the novel was written, since 1984 was written in 1948.
Manipulation is a big part of 1984. Orwell uses many different techniques to show every way the
government is controlling the people both psychologically and physically as shown in detail through
Winston. There is proof of this when Orwell uses repetition when Winston starts shouting Do it to

There is nothing anyone can do if the party decide to do something that the public do not like. Orwell
uses imagery to prove that when Nothing was gone from the room except his mother and sister ,
(Orwell, 1949) this really shows the power that the party had over the people. The real power of the
party was shown at the end of the novel when someone as strong minded as Winston gave up, he gave
up and accepted that he loved Big Brother (Orwell, 1949). Orwell uses self reflection to recap all of
Winston s struggles throughout the novel. The power of government control has been reached after
Orwell proved that someone as rebellious as Winston has accepted

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Geospatial Satellite Imagery
Over the past decade, the ability of large financial institutions to accurately predict changes in the
price of financial securities by using advanced technology has increased exponentially (Bloomberg).
Specifically, the introduction of affordable geospatial satellite imagery has enabled investment
managers to estimate crop yields, oil supply, and livestock quantities with low margins of error. This
information is used to inform trading decisions, which often result in large profits (Woyke). While
extremely useful, this technology is only available to a select number of institutions, as they have
signed exclusivity and pricing agreements with the technology firms providing the data. These
agreements prevent small investment funds and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

dollar institution, this cost is negligible when compared with the potential returns. However, smaller
firms and retail investors have been priced out of the market entirely according to Tian Nan from
Almitas Capital, a $150 million hedge fund in Southern California. The salesperson from Descartes
Labs told Nan that he was not authorized to sell data any cheaper due to pricing agreements with their
main client . Furthermore, he disclosed that even if someone is willing to pay the market price for
data, it would be delayed 24 hours due to terms in the agreement. In most cases, after 24 hours, the
data is useless for trading purposes; it is simply too late to make a profitable decision. Phone
conversations with representatives from TellusLabs, Orbital Insight, and Quandl revealed the same
findings as Descartes Labs. Clearly, the larger institutions have a distinct advantage and the power to
block others from trading profitably in the commodities markets. If only large institutions have access

literary viewpoint, is the worst and a Latin copy of Vulgate. This quotes shows that the narrator

According to Gregor Mendel, he came across two different inheritances laws found in genes:
segregation and independent assortment. Mendel s Law of Segregation states that each individual gene
carries two alleles that segregate each allele into a different gamete during the phase of meiosis. The
offspring have two different alleles coming from each parent that passes one allele down to their
offspring. Mendel s Law of Independent Assortment states during meiosis the alleles of the two
different genes segregate split from each other and sent to the offspring. Mendel s law cannot be put
into every inheritance pattern because it might not be 100 percent reliable. The purpose of this lab was
to develop the understanding of the inheritance patterns using fruit flies, Drosophila Melanogaster. We
chose Drosophila Melanogaster because of the fact that they are small and are an easy use in the
laboratory. As well, they have qualifying characteristics to be able to use. They are very easy to
distinguish the differences between female and males, have a short life cycle, inexpensive, and
understandable traits to be a perfect example. Also, fruit flies produce a large amount of offspring,
which helps us out when finding out pattern of inheritance (Morris and Cahoon, p. 5). In

The Collapse Of The Housing Crisis
Economists cite a plethora of reasons on why the Global Financial Crisis started. However, most
economists can agree that the bursting of the U.S housing bubble, irresponsibility practiced by
regulators and financiers, greed of banks, lack of leadership from central banks, complex chains of
debt, and the credit crunch led to what is referred to as the largest crisis since the Great Depression.
The collapse of the housing bubble, which peaked in 2004, in the United States is usually cited as the
initial trigger of the crisis. The beginning of the bubble was due to the readily available credit in the
U.S. that was fueled by a large influx of foreign funds following the Russian debt crisis and Asian
financial crisis. This led to a boom in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Slumps in value made it difficult for banks to sell assets at almost any price or use them as collateral
for short term funding. Real estate prices also plummeted, and interest rates rose sharply from 1% to
5.35%. The devaluation of homes caused them to be worth less than their mortgage loan, giving
consumers an incentive to foreclose on their mortgages. In addition, homeowners that were barely
able to afford mortgage payments while interest rates were low were suddenly slapped in the face with
the hike in interest rates, which also caused them to default on their mortgages. This phenomenon,
dubbed the foreclosure epidemic , drained wealth from other consumers and weakened the financial
strength of banks. Banks and investors that had borrowed and invested heavily in subprime mortgage
backed securities also incurred significant amounts of debt or losses with the burst of the housing
bubble, adding to the severity with which the collapse of this credit driven bubble affected the world
economy. With the collapse the housing bubble and the value of asset prices, banks began to doubt the
viability of their counterparties. Without trust, which is the ultimate glue of all financial systems,
banks stopped lending, which is the exact opposite of what banks are supposed to do. For example, the
investment bank BNP Paribas told investors that they would be unable to take out money from some

The Slice of a Knife He didn t look that dead. Apart from the river of blood rushing out the gaping
neck wound, he looked pretty much the same as he did a few minutes before. His hand was still

thing different about James s face was the single tear that rolled down his cheek and hung on the cliff
of his chin amongst his stubble. As it fell from his face, his body smashed forward into the wooden
table. And in that moment I felt completely alone. James was the only reason I was there with the
oudious group of so called friends . Only a few moments before we had been having a wonderful time,
drinking wine out of chipped coffee mugs and reminiscing about the good old days . Then in a beat of
a heart, the lights gave out. Exploded glass cascaded from the ceiling and the sudden fright caused
everyone to panic. There were a few minutes of clattering in the murky darkness before Bill switched
his massive solar powered lamp he (ever so conveniently) had with him. So typical of Bill, why had
he even brought a lamp in the first place, particularly a solar powered one. He had also carried an
excessive amount of electronic devices that he immediately proceeded to plug in as soon as he got the
chance, perhaps thats why the power gave out. James was murdered in that dark but did Bill have

Collectivisation had a big impact on Russia for both positive and negative reasons; it was a failure in
the aspect that it caused chaos in agriculture and due to the problems caused, millions died due to
famine and poverty in the short term. Grain harvests dropped dramatically during the early 1930s and
took until the late 1930s for yield to rise again. However, in the long run, a food surplus was secured
and so could be used to feed and pay for the industrial workforce needed for the 5 year plan. It was
also incredibly significant in history as it showed how much control Stalin had over Soviet Russia and
the fear that the peasants lived in; for example if they were caught stealing even just a few pieces of
grain they could be executed or imprisoned for up to 10 years. The lasting impression that is received
from the wide tolerance of this policy was how small and insignificant the few rebellions were that
were organised. This further demonstrates the power and influence held over the peasants during this
period of time. The five year plans were designed to combat the lack of industrialisation in the Soviet
Union by increasing the output of enterprises via setting targets for the companies. If these targets
were not met, due to the lawfulness of the plans, the people responsible could be treated as if they had
committed a criminal offence . Due to the fear implemented by Stalin, Russian

Clausewitz Applicability to Non-State Actors Essays
Clausewitz s theories on war are still relevant today with the revisualization of non state actors on the
world scene. The purpose of this essay is to expand on the applicability of these theories in today s
modern warfare where non state actors play a larger, more global role. The study of theory, especially
translated theory, requires an open mind to determine its applicability to various and ever changing
situations. In the case of Clausewitz, many strategists do not view his theories as relevant to today s
wars involving a Nation State vs. non state actors. This is not true. The U.S. Army Command and
General Staff College teaches that the commander s intent is the most important part of proper
execution. Strategists need to look ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
War is often thought of as involving one state against another but most wars throughout time have
been fought between competing factions within a single state. Examples of this include Civil Wars or
Wars of Revolution within a Nation State where a group organizes itself, forms a military or insurgent
force and attempts to overthrow or separate from the primary Nation State. Clausewitz briefly refers to
non state actors or as he called them, people in arms in his book On War. He saw this as a new
phenomenon of warfare that steamed from the French Revolution under Napoleon. Recognizing that
Clausewitz was aware of non state actors, his definition of war can be reviewed in the context of the
time it was written. Clausewitz s definitions of war are suitable to both State and non state actors. He
defines war as: 1) an act of force to compel our enemy to do our will; 2) a clash between major
interests, which are resolved by bloodshed that is the only way in which it differs from other conflicts;
and 3) fighting, for fighting is the only principle in the manifold activities generally designated as war.
A Nation State raises a military to deter aggression or to become the implementing force of aggression
against its enemies. Similarly, non state actors create militias or guerrilla bands to inflict their will on
others. This act is as much a demonstration of political or military strategy as that of a

Why Elephants Should Be Banned
A small herd of elephants spends the afternoon grazing on the wind swept grass of the savannah in the
sweltering African sun. A few young calves playfully bounce around their mother s legs. This peaceful
vision is just a time of quiet before a bloody scene unfolds. What this small herd is blissfully unaware
of is that poachers are quietly stalking them with murderous intent. This herd of elephants has a
plethora of white gold . These poachers are after only one thing from the elephants, they are after their
tusk made of ivory. By the end of the day the herd will practically be obliterated with only a small

The US provided aid to those countries who stood to lose the most from the ban. Countries like
Botswana, Kenya, and Namibia had successfully managed the elephant populations within their
boundaries.
On a few occasions the ban has been lifted in order to allow countries to sell, for profit, the large
stocks of ivory tusks that have been accumulated from elephants who either died from natural causes,
poaching, or had to be destroyed. CITES has voted to lift the ban twice. Once in 1999 which resulted
in a one time sale of 60 tons of ivory and another lift was authorized in 2002 ( CITES revises ivory

the lifting the ban to allow the countries to sell remaining stocks of ivory as long as there was an

The Chernobyl Of Chernobyl Power Complex Essay
The Chernobyl Power Complex, located about 130 km north of Kiev, Ukraine, and about 20 km south
of the border with Belarus, consisted four RBMK 1000 nuclear reactors. The first two units were
constructed between 1970 and 1977, while the later were completed in 1983. The RBMK 1000 was a
Soviet designed and built graphite moderated pressure tube type reactor, using water as a coolant
which also provided the steam to drive the turbine. The graphite moderator is designed to slow down
neutrons to raise the efficiency of the fission process. The power of the reactor was controlled by
inserting or withdrawing control rods, which could absorb neurons and reduce the reactivity when
lowered into the moderator. The Chernobyl reactor 4 exploded on 26 April 1986 in a steam turbine
test, which was carried out to determine how long turbines would spin and supply power to the main
circulating pumps following a loss of main electrical power supply. A gradual reduction of power
output was needed in preparation for the test, but during the process the reactor went in an unintended
shutdown state, with a power output much lower than the requirement. To recover the reactor s power
level, operators decided to withdraw control rods manually, leading to an extremely unstable reactor
configuration. A series of following improper operations and the original designing flaws of the
reactor eventually resulted in a steam explosion. The first explosion released fission products to the
atmosphere and

Reflection Paper On My Reading
My Reading Response There is a famous saying Every time you open a book, you learn something .
Nevertheless, I had never imagined that reading could be fun, meaningful, and creative. The more I
read, and the more I was attached to the books. After I discovered a few of the readings, I realized how
the authors wanted to introduce their ideas without telling the story directly. This is fairly new to me.
In my earlier English classes that I had studied at the City College of San Francisco, I read mostly
textbooks and non fiction readings. In this English 1B class, I started reading the poem and fiction
materials and they are much harder to understand. Surprisingly, it often uses different configurations
to educate the readers. At the same ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For my first thought, I assumed white elephant should be connected as a precious gift or something
that is rare to obtain. I was surprised that the author used this term as a different meaning. It still
contained the ingredient of precious gift , however, he twisted to unwanted precious gift. After I read
this story about two times, I was happy that I was able to visualize the scene of this story and I
believed the conversations had helped me the most. I had also found some similarity and connections
between this story compared to the others.
Comparably, The Road Not Taken , by Robert Frost, also enclosed the mystery behind the reading.
Nevertheless, this reading was totally different than the Hills Like White Elephants . In my opinion,
poem is not something that everyone can easily handle and it s meant to be metaphorical. Everyone
can use the expression unlike than the others. As a result, it will become with different meaning. Here
s the example that I found in The Road Not Taken , and it clearly provided me the two different
meanings in sentences, although the words are the same, such as, Some dirty dog stole my wallet at
the party (Frost) and You can t teach an old dog new tricks. (Frost) The first phrase is not talking about
the dog and the second phrase was. But they look are very similar. Therefore, it requires effort and
time to understand the meaning. On the same note, a poem is also a reflection of our mood, and this is

The Evolution Of The Hokulea
The Evolution of the Hokulea The story of the Hokulea, a model of the first canoes that brought the
first Polynesians to Hawaii, is a story that restores cultural pride and history to Hawaiians. Her legacy
was almost extinct, but survived and restored the relationship that society has with its island home.
More than 600 years had gone by without seeing one of these canoes, until artist Herb Kane thought to
build a sailing canoe just like the ones his ancestors sailed (Hokulea.com).
Polynesia was a massive country forming a triangle that stretched between New Zealand in the west,
Rapa Nui in the east, and Hawaii in the north. This triangle covered 10 million square miles. It was
discovered by these amazing people who were like the astronauts of the time, because of their
amazing exploration skills. Remarkably, these Polynesians arrived in Hawaii 1,000 years before
Columbus sailed to the Americas. They were considered some of the greatest explorers in all of
history. These explorers were able to discover every livable land mass and island in the Pacific,
without the use of modern technology. All they had were canoes that were very similar to the Hokulea.
Polynesian explorers relied heavily on the stars, winds, waves, and other signs from nature to navigate
the ocean. Hawaii has a very historical and traditionally rooted culture, and the Hokulea is the
beginning and the very center of it. Hawaiians were able to develop the islands and mastered the art of
living sustainably.

Book Report Freak The Mighty
Freak the mighty is a story about two young boys who both have a hard time going through life. Freak
is crippled and short, and Max is tall and retarded. When they become friends, Freak rides on top of
Max s shoulders and together they are freak the mighty whom go on quests together. This book really
shows how you should not judge someone by how they look, which is like the moral of the story. The
character of Freak/kevin is first described as a, crippled kid like humanoid. pg.10 If we were to
describe him just on his appearance we would see him as a scrawny, geeky, crippled kid who has no
friends. Although when we first see him he acts kind when he says to Max his friend, I ll lend you

girlfriend, Two big hands are squeezing her neck. I see how my father is coming huge out of the dark

White Privilege In Society
White privilege as defined by McIntosh (1990) is a phenomenon that is similarly denied and protected
by those who have it (p. 31). This means that those who encompass whiteness; those with white skin,
are subject to privilege not shared by others with skin that is not white. But, this privilege is not
something clearly seen by those who enjoy it. On the contrary, McIntosh (1990) points out that, those
who have white skin have been carefully taught not to recognize white privilege (p. 31). By refusing
to acknowledge, and clinging to the advantaged state they possess, people with white privilege are
perpetuating the disadvantaged state others without said privilege experience. Privilege in this context
is not a preferred or ideal state ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
31). Gender identity can be one of those hierarchies. Those who conform to society s gender norms
are afforded many privileges, at the expense of those whose identities do not coincide with societal
expectations. The genders of women and men are present in every facet in our lives, from the private
sphere, to the public one. Whether one goes shopping for clothing or cosmetics, whether one fills out a
survey from the privacy of their home, the divide between men and women is plainly clear, two
sections, two boxes to tick. For people with characteristics that correspond to the man and woman
binary, the notion that a men and women s section in a pharmacy will sound foreign and irrelevant, or
alternatively, commonsensical, for all they would need to do is go to the section they have been
conditioned to, to the one that is theirs by extension of their gender. But, for someone that does not
conform to the stereotypical perception of what being a man or woman entails, the issue is a real one.
Wilchins (2004) recounts a day spent shopping for clothing, going between searching for men s socks
and women s lingerie: Every salesperson, every department, fumbled for pronouns. All of them were
unsure how to treat me (p. 137). Thus, discrimination is easy to see when you are the target. However,

Comparing A Cage of butterflies to Mission to mars Essay
Science fiction produces a quot;what if quot; element that asks a question and prophesises the future.
There are many texts, which presents the reader or viewer with a particular way of science fiction. The
two texts, quot;A cage of butterflies quot; by Brain Caswell and quot;Mission to Mars quot; by Brian
de Palmer, both of which conform to science fiction. The technology used in quot;A cage of butterflies
quot; is of extremely high standard and produces a theme that prophesises about experimentation and
mutations occurring on humans. The theme in quot;Mission to Mars quot; is about discovery,
communication and reaching out to other life forms.

The babies communicate using pictures and emotional feelings to the others but is hard for them to
communicate in this manner so they try to use their linguistic abilities.
The quot;what if quot; of the novel represent what might happened if we continue to experiment on
life forms. A serum injected by Larsen caused mutation of the babies resulting in the fusing of the
cerebral hemispheres and the enhancement of the babies with extra abilities such as advanced
communication and telepathy. Larsen s greed was shown in his experiments on the kids and in the
future, this greed may possibly entice some people to conduct similar experiments.
The setting in quot;Mission to Mars quot; fills the audience with expectations, as it is futuristic. Mars
is presented in a red colour. The planet is rocky lifeless and barren, with storming winds blowing dust
all over it. The tremendous size of the mountains and gorges make the humans look insignificant and
vulnerable. Inside the face on the planet, a bright, blinding white light in the background, symbolised
peace and high authority eg. Navy uniform. Inside the space ship, the camera angles give the audience
an impression of weightlessness. The camera angles also show how small and cramped the ship is and
how movement is difficult. The technology used in the space ship is also high in technology. When
they voyage out into space, the music

Medical Malpractice And Negligence Cases
Introduction Paragraph.. {Deb So, I usually write this last and am still not quite sure how to start my
paper. Any feedback or suggestions are welcome} According to Showalter (2015), medical
malpractice is a form of negligence and negligence is a sub category of torts that fall under civil law
(p. 104). Some cases brought against healthcare providers fall under the category of intentional torts or
breach of contract. However, this paper will focus on negligence cases and how elements of a contract
establish a duty of care. Brodnick, Rinehart Thompson Reynolds (2017) state, Medical malpractice
and negligence are often used interchangeably because negligence is the basis for most (but not all)
medical malpractice lawsuits . As further

Corpse Bride Analysis
Corpse Bride is a beautiful movie about love, death, and sacrifices, in a classic Tim Burton style the
movie is dark but with a gradual light. The living world is portrayed as dull and nearly colorless but
the land of the dead is a completely different situation because it is full of color and excitement.
Although this movie sounds like a horror film just by the title and the appearance of the cover art but
it is the exact opposite. This movie is very well written and played out, it may one of the most
beautiful and touching animated love stories. Tim Burton is an excellent writer, animator, director,
artist, and producer known for his dark and gothic works so this movie does not fall short of any
expectations. Many people compare Corpse Bride to other Tim Burton movies because of its eerie
vibes and uniqueness. (Member reviews for Tim Burton s Corpse Bride | Common Sense Media.).
It is a stop motion film like a few other Tim Burton movies such as Nightmare before Christmas,
Frankenweenie, and Coraline. The soundtrack is phenomenal in regards to being mainly about
marriage and death along with there being so much diversity between the two states of life. There are
also a couple elaborate dance numbers throughout that describe why everything must go according to
plan with the wedding(s), how Emily the corpse bride died, and about when new people arrive in the
land of the dead. With this being a claymation production everything is flawless and just flows
seamlessly together

The Cask Of Amontillado By Neil Gaiman
The past can tell a lot about someone s life and personality. In literature the use of flashback gives
insight to both the characters as well as the plot of the story. Both Neil Gaiman s How to talk to Girls
at Parties and Edgar Allen Poe s The Cask of Amontillado show examples of using this literary device
and how it affects the story. Not only does the use of flashback give insight to the character s
background and motivation ,but also affects both stories in tone and characterization. Neil Gaiman s
short story takes place thirty years in the past. Gaiman uses flashback to create tone and suspense. The
story begins with two young friends on the way to a party together. However, Gaiman causes the
reader to question what will happen later on by interrupting the story saying, I ve not seen Vic for
thirty years. I m not sure that I would know what to say to him if I did (228). Both Enn and Vic were
great friends; however, Enn stating in the future that him and Vic have not talked or seen each other in
thirty years shows that something in the story has caused this riff between them. The application of
flashback causes the reader to question what in the story has caused this and gives a sense of
uncertainty. This example of flashback also acts as foreshadowing towards the plot. What will
happen? How did it change their friendship? Gaiman uses words in past tense such as in my memory
(230) and back then (233) . The use of these words and diction used gives the

sense into Jefferson, and doing what he can to prevent him from being executed. Grant Wiggins is
doing whatever he can to help Jefferson become a man before the day of his execution. In the book,
Grant visits the prison where Jefferson is and helps him to become a man before the execution.
Towards the end of the novel, Grant states to Jefferson, I want you to chip away at that myth by
standing. I want you yes you to call them liars. I want you to show them that you are as much a man
more a man than they can ever be (Gains 192). What Grant is wanting Jefferson to do is stand up for

In the book, Grant is the one who talks to Jefferson in this tough time and tries to excite him to stand

they re always looking for a scapegoat. I want you to show them the difference between what they
think you are and what you can be (Gains 191). Grant is trying to find something inside of Jefferson to
get him to fight for his innocence. They think he s guilty but they both know that he s innocent. Grant
is trying to tell Jefferson that he needs to find the inner strength to stand up for what he knows is right.
Also, Grant says to Jefferson, I can t tell you anything about life, he said. What do I know about life? I
stayed here. There s nothing but ignorance here. You want to know about life? Well it s too late. Forget
it. Just go on and be the nigger you re born to be, but forget about life (Gains 65). Grant is clearly
frustrated with himself and the situation. He s at a loss at what to say to Jefferson, so he tells him to

  • 2. What About Bob Psychological Analysis As I watched the movie What About Bob? I noticed that there were a variety of different phobias and disorders that the main character Bob had such as panic attacks, dependent personality disorder and even obsessive compulsive disorder. Although these disorders were prominent throughout the film the two that stood out to me the most were Agoraphobia and Personality Dependent Disorder. Agoraphobia is a strong fear and anxiety of being in places where it may be hard to escape or even where help may not be available (medlineplus.gov/ency/article). People that normally tend to have this fear try to avoid public places in that they may feel there would be a very difficult way in them trying to escape. Dependent personality, which can also be associated with anxious personality disorder, involves feelings of nervousness and even fear (my.clevelandclinic.org/health/articles). It can also include somewhat of a clingy behavior, making it hard to make everyday decisions without some type of reassurance every other minute. DPD happens to be one of the most diagnosed disorders equally among women and men. It normally does occur early if not middle adulthood, and the patient typically needs to be taken care of (my.clevelandclinic.org/health/articles). The symptoms that one may experience if they had Dependent Personality Disorder are more than emotional that anything else. One would typically lean on others for emotional support, avoiding personal related responsibility jobs, and even having separation issues (my.clevelandclinic.org/health/articles). Also by the patient having confidence in their decisions they would make, this is why they lean on others to somewhat guide them in the right direction. • 4. Reviewing the Necessity of Punishment Essay Reviewing the Necessity of Punishment From On Crimes and Punishment by Cesare Beccaria is an excerpt from On Crimes and Punishment. In his address to the public, particularly those in political positions, Beccaria discusses the way we as a society choose to carry out the law. What he calls useless severity of punishment encompasses his thoughts on extremes such as capital punishment and the cruelties that we allow our government to inflict upon its own people in a failing attempt to bring order to our society. The death penalty has plagued our society for centuries, perhaps beginning with the idea of human sacrifice that has been turned around as a cycle of never ending death and cruelty. The writing techniques employed by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cesare Beccaria is quick to point out the opposing view to his statement, then use it as reinforcement for his own argument. Discussing capital punishment, he clearly states that many countries, if not most, practice this and have done so for centuries. He doesn t give his audience much time to think about that as he quickly calls the history of mankind a vast sea of errors, among which there float a few confused truths, each one far from the next (68). Instead of just referring to the mistakes made in our history, Beccaria calls them a vast sea of errors implying that these mistakes are so tremendous in number and carry such weight with them that they have not been given enough credit for the tragedies they have caused. It is also unclear if Beccaria is insulting his opponent, adding their opinion to this vast sea of errors. In turn, the reader doesn t want their thoughts bunched with these erroneous opinions. The author claims these mistakes are the effect of confused truths. To the reader, confused truths equates fallacy. The diction is presented in an oxy moron fashion that reinforces his statement with delicate language, leaving the audience to question his opponent s view. Adding these complicated, descriptive words, Beccaria reinstates an argument more likely used by his opponent, then slams the statement with vague evidence to make his audience give more thought to his argument than ... The reason I chose him is because there are few people in history to reach his level of dominance and authority that he possessed. It was over two thousand years ago and his name is still very well known in history. He left his mark on history like very few people that have ever live. In this research paper, I will first write about his story to leadership and how he abstained power. Following this will be an in depth breakdown of his leadership style and how he chose to lead others. He also passed laws to help stabilize marriages, and did things to make his people want have families. He was so serious about the laws he passed regarding marriage, he banished his own daughter for committing adultery. Before Augustus rein, Julius ran a wrecked ship when it came to politics. There are two types of devices available; low flow devices such as the nasal cannula or a simple facial mask, and a non rebreathing mask used as a high flow device. The low flow devices are used for the provision of oxygen in low concentration (two to four litres) whereas, a non breathable mask can be used to provide 15 litres of oxygen to ensure 100% oxygen available to a patient. My opinion too is that I think it is an amazing to have this if we didn t have this some of our animals would be dead. Its great to know we still have people out there who worship and care for all species of animals. One of the reasons to keep the Snail Darters is because I care for all living things I really don t think this fish should die. Plus it has no reason to die, what did it ever do to us? Managing Religious Conflict in Therapy Running Head: MANAGING RELIGIOUS CONFLICT Managing Religious Conflict within Psychotherapy Ryan Hagen UMASS Lowell Abstract This paper discusses the relationship of religion and psychology within the setting of interpersonal dynamic psychotherapy. It raises the question of whether and to what extent religion should be included in a therapeutic setting. Varying perspectives on this issue are reviewed, followed by an examination of the consequences of addressing religion within therapy. In 1989, Richards, in a study of 100 Mormon patients, found that they were more trusting of therapists who disclosed a belief in god. A lot of this depends on the patient. Quackenbos (et al 1986) outlined four viewpoints or degrees of involvement a person may have with their religion, and how it is used to interpret mental health. The four viewpoints are orthodox, moderate, neutralist and atheistic. These lay on a continuum, where those with orthodox viewpoints believe mental problems are caused by sin, and on the other end, atheistic sees mental problems as purely psychological. Another framework was proposed by Batson and Ventis (1982). They argued that a therapist s need to understand the different ways of being religious in order to understand the impact that religion may or may not have on their patient. They created their framework around 3 dimensions, each of which has it s own continuum. The 3 dimensions are quest, ends and means. The quest continuum measures the degree of importance the individual places on existential questions, but does not necessarily feel an urgency to have answered. An example of this would be an agnostic, or a philosopher who enjoys the process of examining these kinds of questions. A person on the high end of this continuum would tend to have doubts about religion, and be tentative about religious viewpoints. The means continuum ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Stories from this period are loaded with imagery of castles and knights. Along with aesthetic inspiration many authors also filled their stories with medieval life. They would often base their stories on the tales of knights and peasants. By accurately showcasing medieval life many authors, whether purposefully or unknowingly, captured a theme of hypocrisy. Knights from the time often emphasised their moral character to the public. They boosted in saying that their actions where chivalrous and that they followed god s path, however many of them were simply lying. Mark Twain the writer of The Celebrated Jumping Frog of the Calaveras Country and Charles Dickens the author of The Baron of Grogzwig , both presented disjunction as a literary technique to evoke a numerous response from their readers. Disjunction was seen in Mark Twain s story during the part when the story started in a way the narrator was in search for Leonidas Smiley and ended up getting information about Jim Smiley. Just as the Baron who wanted to die but ended up realizing that it was not worth it. For me, this literary technique caught the attention of most readers. In the story of The Celebrated Jumping Frog of the Calaveras Country, symbolism, personification and flashback may be seen too. Mark Twain, used the real politicians and symbolized them using animals that would fit their own characteristics. Personification can be seen when the story of Jim Smiley was told, one perfect example was when the frog Daniel Webster was educated and the literary technique that was used so much was flashback when Jim Smiley s story was told. Orwell uses different literary techniques throughout the novel to show the reader how he saw the future in thirty five years time. To show manipulation, power, rebellion and loyalty, Orwell uses different literary techniques to show the reader the key ideas of the novel. The reader can tell from the start of the novel that the novel has a boring and bleak society because the first few words of the novel read It was a bright cold day (Orwell, 1949) which shows that it is not a happy society. The novel was set in Oceania, 1984 which would have been the future at the time the novel was written, since 1984 was written in 1948. Manipulation is a big part of 1984. • 26. Drosophila Melanogaster Lab Summary Documenting independent assortment and genetic linkage In Drosophila melanogaster Marina Gayed BIOL 3251 004 Mr. Matthew Fuller 11 October 2017 Lab Partners Abdelrahman Sedik Aida Abdalla Eriny Saad According to Gregor Mendel, he came across two different inheritances laws found in genes: segregation and independent assortment. Mendel s Law of Segregation states that each individual gene carries two alleles that segregate each allele into a different gamete during the phase of meiosis. The offspring have two different alleles coming from each parent that passes one allele down to their offspring. Mendel s Law of Independent Assortment states during meiosis the alleles of the two different genes segregate split from each other and sent to the offspring. Mendel s law cannot be put into every inheritance pattern because it might not be 100 percent reliable. The purpose of this lab was to develop the understanding of the inheritance patterns using fruit flies, Drosophila Melanogaster. We chose Drosophila Melanogaster because of the fact that they are small and are an easy use in the laboratory. As well, they have qualifying characteristics to be able to use. They are very easy to distinguish the differences between female and males, have a short life cycle, inexpensive, and understandable traits to be a perfect example. Also, fruit flies produce a large amount of offspring, which helps us out when finding out pattern of inheritance (Morris and Cahoon, p. 5). In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, most economists can agree that the bursting of the U.S housing bubble, irresponsibility practiced by regulators and financiers, greed of banks, lack of leadership from central banks, complex chains of debt, and the credit crunch led to what is referred to as the largest crisis since the Great Depression. The collapse of the housing bubble, which peaked in 2004, in the United States is usually cited as the initial trigger of the crisis. Real estate prices also plummeted, and interest rates rose sharply from 1% to 5.35%. In addition, homeowners that were barely able to afford mortgage payments while interest rates were low were suddenly slapped in the face with the hike in interest rates, which also caused them to default on their mortgages. This phenomenon, dubbed the foreclosure epidemic , drained wealth from other consumers and weakened the financial strength of banks. Banks and investors that had borrowed and invested heavily in subprime mortgage backed securities also incurred significant amounts of debt or losses with the burst of the housing bubble, adding to the severity with which the collapse of this credit driven bubble affected the world economy. Collectivisation had a big impact on Russia for both positive and negative reasons; it was a failure in the aspect that it caused chaos in agriculture and due to the problems caused, millions died due to famine and poverty in the short term. Grain harvests dropped dramatically during the early 1930s and took until the late 1930s for yield to rise again. However, in the long run, a food surplus was secured and so could be used to feed and pay for the industrial workforce needed for the 5 year plan. It was also incredibly significant in history as it showed how much control Stalin had over Soviet Russia and the fear that the peasants lived in; for example if they were caught stealing even just a few pieces of grain they could be executed or imprisoned for up to 10 years. The lasting impression that is received from the wide tolerance of this policy was how small and insignificant the few rebellions were that were organised. This further demonstrates the power and influence held over the peasants during this period of time. The five year plans were designed to combat the lack of industrialisation in the Soviet Union by increasing the output of enterprises via setting targets for the companies. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... War is often thought of as involving one state against another but most wars throughout time have been fought between competing factions within a single state. Examples of this include Civil Wars or Wars of Revolution within a Nation State where a group organizes itself, forms a military or insurgent force and attempts to overthrow or separate from the primary Nation State. Clausewitz briefly refers to non state actors or as he called them, people in arms in his book On War. He saw this as a new phenomenon of warfare that steamed from the French Revolution under Napoleon. Recognizing that Clausewitz was aware of non state actors, his definition of war can be reviewed in the context of the time it was written. Clausewitz s definitions of war are suitable to both State and non state actors. He defines war as: 1) an act of force to compel our enemy to do our will; 2) a clash between major interests, which are resolved by bloodshed that is the only way in which it differs from other conflicts; and 3) fighting, for fighting is the only principle in the manifold activities generally designated as war. The first two units were constructed between 1970 and 1977, while the later were completed in 1983. The RBMK 1000 was a Soviet designed and built graphite moderated pressure tube type reactor, using water as a coolant which also provided the steam to drive the turbine. The graphite moderator is designed to slow down neutrons to raise the efficiency of the fission process. The power of the reactor was controlled by inserting or withdrawing control rods, which could absorb neurons and reduce the reactivity when lowered into the moderator. The Chernobyl reactor 4 exploded on 26 April 1986 in a steam turbine test, which was carried out to determine how long turbines would spin and supply power to the main circulating pumps following a loss of main electrical power supply. A gradual reduction of power output was needed in preparation for the test, but during the process the reactor went in an unintended shutdown state, with a power output much lower than the requirement. To recover the reactor s power level, operators decided to withdraw control rods manually, leading to an extremely unstable reactor configuration. The sigh of relief from these children s parents could practically be heard from space. However, just as the polio vaccine had become trusted and strides were being made to eradicate this virus for good, a batch of vaccines produced by Cutter Labs caused a hitch in the breath of parents once more. April 1955 marked the administration of a batch of polio vaccines which, in the process of inactivating the live polio virus, had been defective. This caused those who had been administered the vaccine, primarily young children, to then become infected with Polio and be subjected to the harsh effects of the disease. • 39. The Evolution Of The Hokulea The Evolution of the Hokulea The story of the Hokulea, a model of the first canoes that brought the first Polynesians to Hawaii, is a story that restores cultural pride and history to Hawaiians. Her legacy was almost extinct, but survived and restored the relationship that society has with its island home. More than 600 years had gone by without seeing one of these canoes, until artist Herb Kane thought to build a sailing canoe just like the ones his ancestors sailed (Hokulea.com). Polynesia was a massive country forming a triangle that stretched between New Zealand in the west, Rapa Nui in the east, and Hawaii in the north. This triangle covered 10 million square miles. It was discovered by these amazing people who were like the astronauts of the time, because of their amazing exploration skills. Remarkably, these Polynesians arrived in Hawaii 1,000 years before Columbus sailed to the Americas. They were considered some of the greatest explorers in all of history. These explorers were able to discover every livable land mass and island in the Pacific, without the use of modern technology. All they had were canoes that were very similar to the Hokulea. Polynesian explorers relied heavily on the stars, winds, waves, and other signs from nature to navigate the ocean. Hawaii has a very historical and traditionally rooted culture, and the Hokulea is the beginning and the very center of it. Hawaiians were able to develop the islands and mastered the art of living sustainably. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This means that those who encompass whiteness; those with white skin, are subject to privilege not shared by others with skin that is not white. But, this privilege is not something clearly seen by those who enjoy it. On the contrary, McIntosh (1990) points out that, those who have white skin have been carefully taught not to recognize white privilege (p. 31). Those who conform to society s gender norms are afforded many privileges, at the expense of those whose identities do not coincide with societal expectations. The genders of women and men are present in every facet in our lives, from the private sphere, to the public one. Whether one goes shopping for clothing or cosmetics, whether one fills out a survey from the privacy of their home, the divide between men and women is plainly clear, two sections, two boxes to tick. For people with characteristics that correspond to the man and woman binary, the notion that a men and women s section in a pharmacy will sound foreign and irrelevant, or alternatively, commonsensical, for all they would need to do is go to the section they have been conditioned to, to the one that is theirs by extension of their gender. But, for someone that does not conform to the stereotypical perception of what being a man or woman entails, the issue is a real one. Wilchins (2004) recounts a day spent shopping for clothing, going between searching for men s socks and women s lingerie: Every salesperson, every department, fumbled for pronouns. • 48. The Cask Of Amontillado By Neil Gaiman The past can tell a lot about someone s life and personality. In literature the use of flashback gives insight to both the characters as well as the plot of the story. Both Neil Gaiman s How to talk to Girls at Parties and Edgar Allen Poe s The Cask of Amontillado show examples of using this literary device and how it affects the story. Not only does the use of flashback give insight to the character s background and motivation ,but also affects both stories in tone and characterization. Neil Gaiman s short story takes place thirty years in the past. Gaiman uses flashback to create tone and suspense. The story begins with two young friends on the way to a party together. However, Gaiman causes the reader to question what will happen later on by interrupting the story saying, I ve not seen Vic for thirty years. I m not sure that I would know what to say to him if I did (228). Both Enn and Vic were great friends; however, Enn stating in the future that him and Vic have not talked or seen each other in thirty years shows that something in the story has caused this riff between them. The application of flashback causes the reader to question what in the story has caused this and gives a sense of uncertainty. This example of flashback also acts as foreshadowing towards the plot. What will happen? How did it change their friendship? Gaiman uses words in past tense such as in my memory (230) and back then (233) . The use of these words and diction used gives the ...
