Brunelleschi s Pazzi Chapel Analysis
This is a short essay on the Brunelleschi s Pazzi Chapel, located in Florence, Italy. It examines the
contribution of the monument to the development of architecture and how it conforms to the architect
s style. It further examines what influenced Brunelleschi s goal of creating a centralized effect to his
structures.
About Brunelleschi s Pazzi Chapel
In 1419 Brunelleschi was charged with the task of having to complete the dome for the chapel located
in Florence, Italy. The task occupied a significant part of Brunelleschi s life as it came with enormous
challenges because no dome of the kind had ever been put up since time immemorial (Kleiner).
Besides becoming an architectural problem, the dome astute engineering skill and Brunelleschi
invented and patented hoisting machines that could be used for undertaking the requisite masonry for
the dome. The dome had in excess of 4 million bricks and it rested on a drum as opposed to the ...

Brunelleschi s monument has a significant place in the development of architecture. First, the elders of
Florence had forbidden the construction of structures with buttresses. This provided an industrial
challenge as engineers and architects were baffling over the way structures could stand without
buttresses (Kleiner). Brunelleschi s dome had a base tensioned by the use of horizontal chains of wood
and iron. This cured the problem and many architects have referred to this technology in their designs.
Secondly, earlier designs close to that of Brunelleschi s had failed to pick up because there were no
hoisting machines that could be used to undertake the masonry. The discovery and patenting of the
hoisting machines helped solve the puzzle and, to date, all means of hoisting have come up through
cranes of all types (Kleiner). All these means of hoisting owe their success to Brunelleschi s discovery
during the construction of the dome at Florence

Volkswagen s Impact On The Electric Car Industry
Recently electric cars have become very popular in the United States and around the world, but they
are nothing new. The first electric car was invented more than a hundred years ago in 1832 by Scottish
inventor Robert Anderson, but it wasn t until the late 1890s and early 1900s when electric cars really
became popular. Twenty eight percent of the cars produced in 1900 were powered by electricity, and
electric cars represented one third of all cars in New York City, Boston, and Chicago. However, its
popularity was short lived when people lost interest in electric cars because of their short range, their
lack of horse power, and the availability of gasoline. The introduction of new electric cars and new car
makers like Tesla have boosted the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first step to make gasoline is to locate the main ingredient, which is petroleum. Petroleum is
usually found in geological formations beneath the earth s surface. After they find the petroleum, they
have to drill into the rock and extract the crude oil. Sometimes when they are drilling the pressure
from the oil and the gases trapped inside are extremely high that it causes blowouts. The Deepwater
Horizon was an ultra deep water offshore drilling rig. In 2010, while it was drilling in the Gulf of
Mexico an uncontrollable blowout caused an explosion that killed eleven crewmen and sinking the
Horizon. When it sank it left behind the largest oil spill in U.S water. The problem with spills says

of crude oil into the Gulf of Mexico, the largest marine spill in U.S.

Stereotyping And The American Cinema
Stereotyping Arabs in Hollywood Stereotyping is a very common tool used by film makers because it
is a simple way of establishing a trait of a character in a movie but it provides a single sided portrait of
certain people based on their sex, gender, religion, race or age. As an example the way Arabs,
particularly Palestinians, are portrayed in cinema. The American cinema has painted a picture full of
misconceptions about them and created a stereotype that has been exacerbated in many movies since
the dawn of hollywood. Because Cinema is a powerful tool that manipulates and reshapes the thoughts
of audiences by making spectators passively consume all presented material, it made it easy to
manipulate the minds of people to serve a political agenda mainly the Israeli Palestinian conflict. Jack
Valenti a former president and CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America had said:
Washington and Hollywood spring from the same DNA . Since the founding of Israel in 1948, every
American administration has made it clear which side it is on. On the other hand, it failed to support
the millions of Palestinians who are loosing their homes, their lands, and their lives to the occupation.
In the contrary, they have always been projected as the evil that wants death to Israel and America.
And that is where cinema comes in, it goes to reinforce that image in the minds of people so they are
less compassionate and sympathetic to the palestinian people as Israel is expanding in

How To Write A Short Story Of Lincoln s Wife
While residing in New Salem, Lincoln became acquainted with Ann Rutledge. Apparently he was
fond of her, and certainly he grieved with the entire community at her untimely death, in 1835, at the
age of 22. Afterward, stories were told of a grand romance between Lincoln and Rutledge, but these
stories are not supported by sound historical evidence. A year after the death of Rutledge, Lincoln
carried on a halfhearted courtship with Mary Owens, who eventually concluded that Lincoln was
deficient in those little links which make up the chain of woman s happiness. She turned down his
proposal.
So far as can be known, the first and only real love of Lincoln s life was Mary Todd. High spirited,
quick witted, and well educated, Todd came from a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like most married couples, the Lincolns also had their domestic quarrels, which sometimes were
hectic but which undoubtedly were exaggerated by contemporary gossips. She suffered from recurring
headaches, fits of temper, and a sense of insecurity and loneliness that was intensified by her husband
s long absences on the lawyer s circuit. After his election to the presidency, she was afflicted by the
death of her son Willie, by the ironies of a war that made enemies of Kentucky relatives and friends,
and by the unfair public criticisms of her as mistress of the White House. She developed an obsessive
need to spend money, and she ran up embarrassing bills. She also staged some painful scenes of wifely
jealousy. At last, in 1875, she was officially declared insane, though by that time she had undergone
the further shock of seeing her husband murdered at her side. During their earlier married life, she
unquestionably encouraged her husband and served as a prod to his own ambition. During their later
years together, she probably strengthened and tested his innate qualities of tolerance and

Physics of Rainbows Essay
When the Sun s light is refracted on passing through tiny rain droplets falling in the air a Rainbow is
formed. Rainbows only need light from the sun or the moon and a large amount of spherical raindrops
to form in the atmosphere. The rainbows can be compared to mini prisms. The light is refracted (
bending of light as it passes from one medium to another ) and it causes different wavelengths (or
colors) of the white light to separate. Whether these wavelengths of light will pass through the
raindrop or reflect depends on the angle the light strikes the back of the raindrop. If a wavelength of
the light strikes the back of the raindrop at an angle less than 48 degree relative to the normal then the
light will pass through the raindrop. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact a rainbow is made up of the entire spectrum of colors from red to violet and beyond to the
ultraviolet and infrared sections of the spectrum, which the eye is not capable of detecting.
The speed of the wavelength of white light before it hits the raindrop determines the color a raindrop
will emit. If the wavelength of white light travels at a slow speed, then the wavelength of light will
bend more when it enters the raindrop.
Wavelength of the color violet is bent the most when it enters the raindrop. While red light is bent the
least when it enters the raindrop. The violet light will emerge from the raindrop at an angle of 40
degrees relative to the observer s line of sight. While red light will emerge at an angle of 42 degrees.
Thus, violet light has the shortest wavelength. Red, being at the opposite edge, has the longest
wavelength. Moving from the violet edge through the colors to red at the opposite edge the
wavelength gets longer. Other colors of the spectrum can be seen in between 40 and 42 degrees
relative to the observer s line of sight. It is important to note that only one color of light is emitted
from each raindrop. A large amount of raindrops produce a wide spectrum of colors of a rainbow.
There are certain colors which cannot be seen by the eye. This is why the observer sees four to five
solid colors of a rainbow. The color bands of a rainbow always have the same order since the shorter
wavelengths of light are refracted

Coal Mining Pros And Cons
NorthMet Mining Project
Polymet Mining is a mining industry that is proposing to create Minnesota s first sulfide mine. The
company is wanting to create an open pit copper and nickel mine that is located north of Hoyt Lakes
in the Superior National Forest (BC Hydro). They plan to call this project the NorthMet Mining
Project. There is a dire need for nickel and copper in America, and building this mine will help obtain
these resources. There are many pros and cons to the mine being built in one of Minnesota s National
Forests. The building of this mine would help obtain the necessary resources that the United States is
lacking, but will also destroy the natural state of the Superior National Forest and many habitats of the
animals living within the forest. In my opinion, I do not think that building this mine will benefit the
United States because of all the damage to the natural land that it will cause. Contrary to iron mines,
sulfur mines release sulfuric acid when water comes in contact with tailings or other mining wastes
during the mining process. Sulfuric acid has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

amount to the amount of other living things that will lose their home in order for the mining to take
place. Another small benefit to the mine would be the resources that we can obtain from this region (
Investing in our region and state for substantial economic returns ). While mining in this area would

The Most Famous Poet By William Yeats
The Important Isn t Appreciated
(An analysis of Sailing to Byzantium by William Yeats) William Butler Yeats is considered the most
famous poet throughout the modernism era. The most memorable writings are considered romantic
visionary writings; romantic meaning looking towards that past and visionary looking towards the
future. Throughout the twentieth century these ideas were not very popular or even talked about very
often. Yeats had a new approach that drew people in and made them realize the idealism of these
ideas. Because of this it made William Yeats the most famous poet of the modernism period. Richard
Hopkins, a biographer explained this about Yeats, I assign Yeats the high praise of having written
some the most beautiful poetry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Every single person goes through life and has completely different experiences then the next person.
Not a single person can truly step into someone else s shoes. Throughout Sailing To Byzantium
William Yeats explains, O sages standing in God s holy fire As in the gold mosaic of a wall, (lines 17
18). By saying this, Yeats alludes to the fact those who a have had to sit on the sideline and watch
those around them progress, truly know and can relate to every situation. The knowledge gained from
not only participating in the activity, but also watching others do the activity will allow those people to
relate to almost every situation. Nadia Goodman wrote an article about ways to give advice, in which
she explains, Rather, advice comes freighted with implications regarding power and autonomy. This
simply means that advice only means something if taken into account and used. Sailing To Byzantium
by William Butler Yeats also explains that great art speaks in three different ways; past, present, and
future. In this era poetry was very popular and was well accepted. The work of Yeats was well
accepted from the beginning of his career. His poetry has a way of speaking to the past, present, and
future people. The poetry he wrote outlasted the era and himself to continue on into the 21st century
and proceed to be very influential. Yeats explains

At first the issues were minor like a little too much hydrilla here and there, the gate not working, the

ignored by Ryland but not by the homeowners. The clubhouse and pool for example are strictly for
residents use but due to the gates being open during the day till evening, people giving out the security
code to get in after hours and big advertising which made tourists believe the community was meant
for vacationing in, even if one didn t live there or have family or friends they could stay with while
visiting it didn t keep them from taking advantage of overcrowding the pool and vandalism like
broken alcohol bottles near pool property. Teenagers who did not know better frequently hopped the
fence guarding the pool eventually busting parts of the fence, ruined the slide with obscenities like
skateboarding down it when it wasn t on and fishing in the lake when it s strictly prohibited due the

Art Reflection Paper
When I visited the Tampa Museum of Art, I walked around looking at all of the beautiful artwork on
display. I chose a piece that stuck out to me and reminded me of the carnivals and fairs I went to
growing up in my hometown with family. Choosing just one piece to write about was a difficult
decision, but I chose to write about Carrousels by Don Jacot. This piece was created with oil on linen
in 1992 and is 50x72 . I believe the subject matter of this piece has to do with childhood and
memories. I noticed in this piece that there were not many people on the rides or around the picture at
all. This interested me, so I decided to look at other artworks he has created and most of the others are
empty as well. I feel this has something to do with him having an empty childhood, but still has the
memories of him going out. He also tends to lean more towards using the brighter primary colors such
as red, blue, and yellow. I figured he chose these because a child would be more fascinated in
something bright and colorful instead of dull and plain. One of the formal elements that stood out to
me the most was color. I chose this because color is such a big aspect in this piece of work. Blue, red,
and yellow are the most used in this work and are brightly intensified. The vibrant colors caught my
eye right away when I saw the picture. The second formal element that is shown in this picture is line.
I feel this element goes with the picture because there are many geometrical shapes and lines that
direct you to certain aspects. One of the main eye catching features is the Ferris wheel in the
background. The wheel catches the eye because all of the lines in the middle draw attention to it. The
tents on top of the rides in the back, the fence, and poles/bars on the ride are all very clean cut. Overall
the lines in the work lead your eye all around the composition of the piece. Another element that I
thought this picture has is shape. Shape is significant as well because the lines in the picture form
these figures. For example, the lines that are used on top of the ride tents form triangles, which lead
back to shape. This picture includes many geometrical forms all around the work such as the
rectangular benches, the

Tim Burton’s Edward Scissorhands Essay
Tim Burton s Edward Scissorhands
Tim Burton s only accomplishment in Edward Scissorhands was creating a hackneyed version if
Beauty and the Beast set in middle suburbia. Major innovations were made in entertaining the eyes for
about two hours with contrasting scenery and 1950 s style home décor. Burton in collaboration with
Caroline Thompson, created a tale about an alluring, and uncooperative beauty and a beast who falls
in love with her. Predictably, the beast Edward (Depp), possesses innocence, peace, and all those
qualities that normally aren t expected for such a creature to have. Additionally, the beauty Kim
(Ryder) is the one of the few who can see through Edward s disguise.
Set in the 50 s in a seemingly nice suburban ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Edward has the face as they say only a mother could love and so both Peg and her husband (Arkin)
treat him as a normal adolescent while assuming his hands were a birth defect. He is soon discovered
when wonderful shrub work appear on the front lawns and gardens. Soon, Edward gains fame around
the community and his disability becomes a tool.
Burton s characters reflect the typical stereotypes about middle suburbia. Kim s parents are the typical
idealistic parents that believe anything can be fixed with a few dabs of facial cream and a good
helping of meatloaf. There is the curious little brother that becomes a nuisance as the beautiful sister
approaches her teens. The parents just hang back and see everything as just part of another phase like
ballerina lessons, and cowboys and Indians. Kim s boyfriend in the muscle head jock set for Harvard
with a rich dad going through a mid life crisis with a neo futuristic bachelor pad. The neighbors are
the typical nosey neighbors who fall into the Edward hair cut fad.
Much of the relationship between Kim and Edward revolves around the penetration of Edwards
psyche. As the creation of a mad scientist with the heart of gold, Edward in turn must have the
innocence of the child he meant to create. Much like Frankenstein, the true beauty of the monster is
hidden beneath the layer of physical horror and misunderstanding by the beholder. Burton explores the
debts of Edwards mind through his art because it

The Importance Of Reasoning In Critical Thinking
Society today requires individuals to develop skills to make informed, thought driven decisions, rather
than quick hasty decisions, in many situations both personally and professionally. Decisions like these
are made based on critical thinking skills that are not inherited but developed through many years of
training both of the mind and of one s thought processes. Understanding how thinking occurs and
analyzing the thought processes are steps that critical thinkers use on a daily basis (Paul Elder, 2012).
In addition, according to Celuch Slama (2000), critical thinking is essential to lifelong learning and is
developed through improved reasoning and communication skills.
Oftentimes, reasoning and thinking are used interchangeably; however, reasoning represents the
higher order thinking skills (Paul Elder, 2012). Accordingly, thinking can be conscious or
unconscious; however, reasoning is always conscious and requires logic (Difference Between
Thinking and Reasoning, 2016). Understanding the eight elements of reasoning associated with
developing intellectual traits, is important for critical thinking (Paul Elder, 2012). Reasoning always
has a purpose which in turn is the goal or objective of the thought (Paul Elder, 2012). Developing a
budget for Christmas shopping to prevent overspending is an example of reasoning with a purpose.
Questioning or trying to figure out a problem is another element of reasoning (Celuch Slama, 1999).

Examples Of Mental Illness In The Tell Tale Heart
Schizophrenia Character Diagnosis
Edgar Allan Poe is a world renowned author, whose works are taught in schools and universities
across the United States and the world. His works of literature encompasses an array of complex and
diverse characters. Poe s writing often explored the mysterious topic of mental illness. One character
that exhibits a mental illness is the narrator in one of his most popular and well known short stories.
The narrator of Edgar Allan Poe s short story The Tell Tale Heart suffers from the mental illness
schizophrenia, which in turn causes him to fixate on murdering the old man and motivates his actions
throughout the whole story.
In the story The Tell Tale Heart the narrator tries to convince the readers that he is not insane by
explaining how well thought out his pre meditated murder plan is. The narrator then explains how he

Catatonia is associated with mental diseases, usually schizophrenia, and involves the subject to be
abnormally still. The narrator of the story for sure has this symptom. In the story he states It took me
an hour to place my whole head within the opening so far that I could see him as he lay upon his bed
(Poe). A person without the symptom catatonia would have quickly became bored or would have
opened the door quicker and hoped that the old man did not wake from his slumber. Later on in the
story he claims [After awakening the old man] I kept quite still and said nothing. For a whole hour I
did not move a muscle, and in the meantime I did not hear him lie down (Poe). This provides another
example of him being immobile for an extremely long period of time. His catatonia is obviously not in
the advanced stage because he is only immobile for a short period of time. In the advanced stages
people could possibly become still for days, weeks, and even

Charles Taylor And The Civil War
Liberia has suffered two major civil wars. The first civil war happened from 1989 until 1997. In 1980,
Samuel Doe had led a coup d état to overthrow the government of Tubman. In 1985, elections were
held in the country, and it was considered to be highly fraudulent. A coup was organized, but it was
not successful. In 1989, Charles Taylor arrived in the country from Ivory Coast and led an uprising
against the government of Samuel Doe. During the uprising, two factions arose with one staying with
Taylor and the other supporting Prince Johnson. Johnson fought for the capital, and he executed Doe
while taking the city. The emerging conflicts saw Taylor and Johnson fighting over the control of
Monrovia. The civil war led to over 200,000 deaths. After the election of Taylor, peace reigned for two
years before the second civil war started. The war began in 1999 when a rebel group that was backed
by Guinea, which was a neighboring country, invaded northern Liberia. The Liberians United for
Reconciliation and Democracy (LURD) fought against Taylor forces. Civilians were the most affected
because they were between the two warring factions. In 2003, another rebel group was formed known
as Movement for Democracy in Liberia. This group emerged from the south and by mid 2003, the
government controlled only a third of the country. The two rebel group oversaw the deaths of
thousands of people. Much more were displaced. Currently, the population of Liberia consists of more

Essay On Unobtainable Beauty
Between movies, TV shows, magazines, and fashion everyday women are being bombarded with an
ever present ideal and standard of unobtainable beauty. In today s society it is especially easy to stay
connected to the media and the outside world through the internet and its various social networks. This
kind of access provides a nonstop stream of women being exposed to perfect bodies, perfect people,
and what seems to be perfect lives. With the constant exposure to all of this it can be hard for women
to not compare themselves to the people they see online, which can leave to devastating effects on the
woman s self esteem, self worth, and overall wellbeing. Marika Tiggemann and Jessica Lynch
conducted a study where they found that body dissatisfaction remains as a constant for women
throughout their lifespan and can impact a woman at any age (2011). Body dissatisfaction is
something the majority of women have to deal with at some point or another, it is important to identify
factors that can trigger this insecurity such as the media, celebrities, and subliminal advertising in
order to bring more awareness to the issue and make changes that can lead a woman to having a
healthier outlook on her outward appearance and an overall higher satisfaction with her body. With
media being so accessible in today s world younger and younger people are logging on and being
exposed to these unobtainable beauty standards. In a study conducted by Duke University researchers

Strange Career of Jim Crow Significance The author of this report is asked to answer to a series of
specific questions as it relates to a certain book written about Jim Crow and the wider historical and
social significance of the same. The Supreme Court decision that involved Jim Crow and the
separation of blacks and whites is to be discussed as well as a general reaction to the book. All of this
and more will be covered. The Woodward work is recognized as one of the most hard hitting and
honest historical reviews of slavery and state sanctioned racism in the United States law and general
practice. Historical Context of the Book The historical context of the Jim Crow book and of the wider
Jim Crow issue is clear to anyone that has a modicum of historical understanding. The Jim Crow laws,
as they came to be known, were the laws that codified the concept of separate but equal . Instead of
sanctifying open and equal access for all races regardless of subject or the color of the person
involved, it was a de facto allowance by the Supreme Court for separate but equal to be the law of the
law rather than allowing for any pretense of equality for all being the norm. The racist practices of the
Jim Crow laws were later affirmed by Plessy v. Feguson in 1896, which greatly exacerbated the use of
the laws, especially in the South. These laws were created roughly from 1800 to 1866 and

Theme Of Time In A Rose For Emily
In A Rose for Emily, Faulkner uses the aspect of time to accentuate details of the setting and vice
versa. By disregarding the chronological order of development of Miss Emily s life, at first Faulkner
gives the reader a finished complexity, and then allows the reader to examine this puzzle step by step,
piece by piece. By doing this, he enhances the plot and portrays two different angles of time held by
the characters. The first perspective, the world as the present, shows time as a progression and the past
is a shrinking road. The second perspective, the world of tradition and the past, views the past as a
huge meadow which no winter ever quite touches, divided from them now by the narrow bottleneck of
the most recent decade of years. (5) The first perspective is based on Homer and the modern
generation. The second is based on confederate soldiers and the older members of the Board of
Aldermen. Emily holds the second view too, however for her there is no bottleneck separating her
from the meadow of the past.
Faulkner starts off the story with Miss Emily s funeral, where the men see her as a fallen monument
(1) and the women are curious about the inside of her house. He draws a picture of a woman who is
fragile because she has fallen, but still symbolic and important like a monument. The particulars of
Miss Emily s house are very similar to her and symbolize what she stands for. It is set on what had
once been the most select street. (1) The narrator, which is the

For days, months, years, even decades, the conflict between Israel and Palestine has raged, leaving
thousands of dead in its wake. The Jewish people once lived in the land now known as either Israel or
Palestine. They were forced out in 70 A.D. in what is now known as the Jewish Diaspora after
attempting a revolt against the Romans that, in hindsight, was probably not a good idea. Who replaced

This proves that Israel is a valid place for a Jewish state because God has promised Israel to Abraham
and his descendants. Reason Wrap Up In short, one of the reasons Israel was created as a Jewish state
in 1948 is that in their scriptures say that they have been promised Israel by God. International support
There are two great reasons Zionism or International Support back up the creation of Israel that I will
explain to you, but I m sure there are plenty more. First evidence The people kept faith with [Israel]
throughout their Dispersion (Diaspora) and never ceased to hope and pray for their return to it, as said
in Document B. This shows that Israelis have always wanted to return and have kept the dream alive
and have historical ties to Israel. Second evidence Also, quoted from Document B is the evidence, The
United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution calling for the establishment of a Jewish state in
Eretz Israel. Eretz Israel, by the way, is just Israel by a different name. Moving on, this proves that
Israel should have been created as a Jewish state in 1948

Protecting Floodplains by Aaron Dante Mamiit
Protecting Floodplains by Aaron Dante Mamiit
Flooding is a constant issue faced by Metro Manila. Although there are times when flooding is merely
an inconvenient and annoying event, there are also times when it develops into something much more
frightening and dangerous.
But why is Metro Manila so badly plagued by floods anyway?
One of the reasons why Metro Manila constantly battles with the flood problem is because a large part
of it is situated on a floodplain.
What are floodplains?
Floodplains are landscapes that are formed when running water, often in streams and rivers, transports
eroded rock and other similar materials from their banks to a lower part of the Earth s surface. At these
lower parts, the flow of water slows down, and the rock and materials that the water is carrying are
dropped.
This leads to the creation of deposital landforms. One of these landforms is the floodplain.
Floodplains are nearly flat, hence the plains part of their name. The flood part, on the other hand,
should be pretty obvious these floodplains are subject to periodic flooding.
What happens on floodplains?
Flooding occurs when water overflows from a stream or river. When the water levels become too high,
the water flows out of the stream channel and over the stream banks, submerging the adjacent
floodplain.
As water overflows, the material it carries sediments such as sand, gravel, clay, and silt are deposited
on the floodplain.
The larger particles are deposited first, closer

Acid Rain Problems
An Overview OF AREAS IN THE WORLD THAT HAVE PROBLEMS WITH ACID RAIN
What areas in the world have problems with acid rain?
Areas that have problems with acid rain are those that contain many running cars and a large
population of people in one place, such as cities. Areas near electric companies that burn fossil fuel or
manufacturing industries also face acid rain. Even areas that are far from electric companies and
manufacturing industries face the wrath of acid rain as SO2 and NOx can travel far through wind and
air currents.
Why do they have acid rain?
These places have acid rain because of the amount of SO2 and NOx that is being created. The burning
of fossil fuels that electric companies do release sulfur dioxide that spreads through the air, which
forms acid rain. Heat that radiates off internal combustion engines(cars) forms nitrogen dioxide.
Which is also used in the making of acid rain. With the amount of cars that are being used in one city,
acid rain is bound to be a problem.
What damages does acid rain cause?
1. Acid rain breaks down the metal of structures in cities, like buildings and statues.
2. It pollutes the water and kills living organisms in ecosystems.
3. It creates smog and pollutes the air.
What are five thing we can do to prevent acid rain and the damage it causes?
1. We can change the way we create energy, instead burning fossil fuels we could use some alternative
method.
2. Instead of driving to work or school, people could walk or take a bike, or

Winners and Losers in the Contemporary International Trade...
Who are the winners and losers in the contemporary international trade regime and how do
international institutions affect this distribution?
This essay will provide an analysis on the nature and consequences of winning and losing in the global
trading regime, not limited to the international distribution of gains and losses from trade, but also
looking at domestic distribution of wealth as a consequence from e ngaging in the traditionally neo
liberal global trading regime. Such an analysis will be done through specific cases, and will illustrate
how free trade reforms impact people of different countries in different ways. This essay will also
continuously examine the importance of the international institutions in not only how they ... Show

These types of market liberalisations, but market de regulation in particular, are the things that neo
liberal economists argue are the key reasons behind the incredible increase in international trade
between from the end of the Second World War onwards (O brien and Williams, 2010: 168), and at
first glance, it does seem credible that the trade reforms introduced through the GATT (General
Agreement on Tariffs and Trade) would lead to increased trade, especially in Europe during the post
war period. However, Strange (1985: 241) argues that was in fact prosperity itself, brought about
through the Mars hall Plan and the economic injections into the European economy that permitted that
liberalization to exist. By turning the trade liberalization arguments this way, one can start questioning
the true intentions behind trade liberalization. If the European states needed prosperity before
embracing trade liberalization, can one argue that trade will bring about wealth?
According to neo liberal economics, trade liberalization will lead to wealth for all countries involve d
in the global trading regime however that is not the case in the contemporary international trading

Similarities Between Beowulf And Harry Potter
It is truly amazing to compare and contrast literature from today with literature from centuries ago,
and find out just how similar they can be even though they are so different. Two stories that display
this relationship very clearly are The Mwindo Epic and Harry Potter. Both of these stories have many
similar themes such as prophecies of birth, threat at infancy, magic and special abilities, and so much
more. Even though they have so many similarities, these stories have completely different plots, such
as the fact that in The Mwindo Epic, Mwindo s attacker is his own father, while in Harry Potter, his
attacker kills his father, and is a complete stranger. For these stories to be separated by so many years,
it is quite interesting for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nyamwindo, Mwindo s mother, tries to hide her son from Shemwindo for obvious reasons.
Unfortunately, a cricket tells Shemwindo about Mwindo and he decides to kill him. He tries three
times, first by throwing spears at him, then burying him alive, and finally he seals him in a drum and
dumps him into a river. If this isn t bad enough, the river that Mwindo is floating down happens to
lead to the pool of Mukiti, and he eventually ends up there. Mukiti challenges Mwindo, but Iyangura
saves him from the drum. Kasiyembe also attempts to kill Mwindo but is unsuccessful. Mwindo had a
rough infancy where many different people tried to kill him for no reason, much like Harry Potter.
Harry Potter also deals with many different people trying to kill him as a child. The first time this
happened was when he was still an infant and Voldemort kills his mother and father, and ultimately
tries to kill him. Just like Mwindo, Voldemort is unsuccessful, and Harry is safe for many years.
Throughout his childhood he is safe, but when he returns to the wizarding world, he is in constant
danger, and Voldemort, along with his followers, attempt to kill Harry. Both of these characters have a
rough infancy and childhood, constantly having people trying to kill them, and this is just another
similarity these two stories have.
One similarity I find particularly interesting between these stories is the fact that both characters
possess magical abilities, and

Cecally-Cannulated Horses Case Study
Four cecally cannulated horses were utilized in a 4 x 4 Latin square to evaluate dosage levels of 95%
liposomal curcumin (LIPC) on the same opportunistic bacteria in experiment 1 and to evaluate cecal
characteristics. Horses were randomly assigned to one of four treatments: 1) no LIPC, (CON); 2) 15 g
of 500 mg/g of LIPC, recommended level (REC); 3) 25 g of 500 mg/g of LIPC (1.66 x R); or 4) 35 g

The recommended dose, REC treatment, significantly decreased (P 0.0001) SBEC concentrations
compared to increasing doses. E. coli K 12 concentrations were decreased (P = 0.01) with REC and

general were significantly less (P = 0.032) in REC, 1.33xR and 2xR compared to the 1.66xR
treatment. Numerically, 2xR had the lowest concentration of C. difficile, and 1.66xR had the lowest
concentration of C. perfringens out of the four treatments. Previous work with human subjects showed
E. coli and substrain K 12 possess curcumin converting activity, which is responsible for curcumin
transformation and slowing down the degradation and metabolic process of curcumin (Hassaninasab
et al., 2011). Thus, increasing the dosage of 95% liposomal curcumin may have increased the growth
activity of E. coli general and K 12 due to curcumin being broken down in the cecum. This can have a
direct effect on these strains (Hassaninasab et al., 2011). In addition, this may be the reason for
concentration responses. Based on the results from the two batch cultures, the authors decided to
investigate 15 g, 25 g, and 35 g of 500 mg/g of 95% liposomal curcumin for the in vivo

The Common Technique for Free Throw
Introduction The basketball game played by two teams consisting of five players. In the basketball
game, the basketball player tries to outscore their opponent by passing, handling or dribbling the
basketball into position for shooting the ball into their offensive basket. When either of the team
player violated or foul, the fouled player attempts a free throw of the ball changes (Mood, Masker
Rink, 1991). The free drop is important later in the game because of the free throws comprise a
significantly larger portion of total points made during the final 5 minutes than the first 35 minutes of
the game for both gaining and losing teams (Kozar, 1994). The fouled player required to shoot from
the free throw line. The free throw line is 15 feet from the basket and has ample time to attempt the
shot, so that is the easiest shots in basketball. A successful free throw needed a good concentration,
relaxation, but the most important is a good mechanic in the shot. Also, the player does more practice

Animals In The Enigma Of Animal Suffering
In The Enigma of Animal Suffering, the author implies that animals may not be so different from
human beings in regards to feeing love and pain. The author mainly focuses on talking about farm
animals since those are the type that are mainly consumed. He uses analogies by comparing animals to
some delicate situations people actually experienced. For example, he compared cows being
inseminated to a person being sexually assaulted. These analogies are difficult to think about in a
different perspective, but it definitely makes you think. He highlights th way these farm animals are
treated before they are slaughtered and defends the fact that they have feelings as well. Because some

The American Dream In The Overnighters And The California...
Since the inception of this country, the concept of the American Dream has been driven forward by
men and women who believe that they can be as successful as they desire if they only roll up their
sleeves, take charge of their lives, and work hard to accomplish their goals. Indeed, it was this idea
that brought many foreigners to settle in this country in the first place. These types of men and women
jump at any opportunity to better their lives, such as when hundreds of thousands flocked out to
California in 1849 to become wealthy through the search and acquisition of gold. The underlying
situation at play in The Overnighters is no different from the search for the New World or the
California Gold Rush. The communities that form around such fountains of opportunity often strain
the surrounding areas, however, and the Overnighter community of vagabonds and strangers that
formed in the town of Williston, North Dakota was no different, ultimately becoming a source of
conflict that forced the metaphorical moral hands of nearly everyone they surrounded. In recent years,
the North Dakota oil boom has attracted men and women looking for wealth and success from all over
the United States. In some cases, these people packed up nearly everything they have, left everything
they had ever known, and made the hike to North Dakota to seek a job in the oil industry that they did
not know they would receive once there. These individuals no doubt heard stories of plentiful jobs

How Does Music Affect The Social Movement
On a global scale, our societies are extremely diverse. Very few traditions and passions can be
paralleled between virtually every culture that endures today, or has ever existed. However, music is
an exception. A 41,000 year old flute, made of bone with seven holes carved out confirms that the
creation of music has been a practice since the emergence of mankind. Throughout millennia, music
has played an intricate role in influencing our development, expression, relationships, mindset,
decision making, communication, etc., and has touched every corner of the Earth. Music is one of the
most efficient cultural tools utilized by many historical movements. Establishing a common
connection to a particular musical taste, practice, or genre, amongst potential movement recruits can
draw them to acknowledge other connections they share with one another, and eventually leads to
form a connection to the larger purpose of the social movement. The artistic and emotional effects of
music are indisputable. Feelings of anger, motivation, joy, sorrow, or inspiration can be created by
music of any style, contingent on its context. It is irrefutable that music is an emotional medium,
regardless of the intention of the composer or the performer. In particular, young people are open to
the emotional messages laced throughout music, for they often feel marginalized ... Show more

The Design of a Uniform Pore Structure Is Favorable to...
The isotherms of three samples investigated by the nitrogen adsorption/desorption were shown in
Figure 2. The curves of all three samples show hysteresis behavior and belong to type IV isotherms31.
It suggests that our samples exhibit mesoporous structure with pore sizes larger than 5.6 nm (Table 2).
The pore diameter of thiol functionalized SBA 15 calculated by the BJH theory is smaller than that of
SBA 15, which is attributed to the anchoring of thiol moiety to the silanol group in the interior wall of
SBA 1540. The decrease of pore size, while maintaining type IV isotherm characteristics in thiol
functionalized SBA 15, is one possible reason that thiol moieties are located along the interior pore
channels of SBA 15, not in the internal framework of SBA 15. The further decrease of pore size in Bi
thiol functionalized SBA 15 can be explained by the attachment of bismuth to the thiol group,
narrowing the inner pore channel of SBA 15. The BET surface areas of SBA 15, thiol functionalized
SBA 15, and Bi thiol functionalized SBA 15 are 847, 512, and 347 m2/g, respectively. The pore
volumes of those are 1.03, 0.85, and 0.62 cm3/g, respectively (shown in Table 2). The gradual
decrease of the surface area and pore volume can also be understood in the attachment of thiol group
to the inner wall of SBA 15 or bismuth to the thiol group as discussed above. Interestingly, the pore
diameter of Bi SBA 15 is similar to that of SBA 15, indicating that bismuth is not impregnated to the

Social Aspects Of A Person s Social Location
There are many social aspects that construct a person s social location that determines who they are as
an individual. Social location refers to an individual s place or location within their society. My social
location has mainly been shaped by my past experiences with gender, social class, religion, and race.
These four including many other factors have had a substantial influence on the way I view society.
Growing up, I didn t always conform to the normal little girl ways set by my society. I had Barbie
dolls but I also had Pokémon, Dinosaurs, and Ninja turtle toys. The social gender norm for girls would
be tea parties and Barbie dolls, while boys would have dinosaurs and car toys. Though, I had a little
bit of everything, as an only child I had a choice of what I thought I liked better. My parents didn t
choose what was right for me, and I didn t so much care about what other kids had. I also started a
sport very young, I joined a swim team because my dad taught me how to swim at the age of five and
I adored it. Ever since then I started playing outdoors and I grew up playing basketball and football
with the neighbor boys. Therefore, I always had the mindset that girls could do anything that boys
could do, and gender didn t matter in most cases. Unlike the common belief that boys or men in
general are better, or more superior. My parents raised me on a more neutral level and it changed my
views from the social norm . I believe that social class had a major play in my

Federal Government Pros And Cons
On the other side of the issue, individuals in favor of the ruling claim that the federal government was
denying the 1st amendment rights of everyone s political speech. An American Spectator article writes
in favor of the court s ruling. Prior to the decision an individual such as George Soros is free to spend
$20 million to promote his favored candidates, but if two or more individuals get together to do the
same thing, neither can contribute more than $5,000 to the effort (Smith). Citizens United was simply
fighting for their constitutional rights to freedom of speech. During the oral arguments of the court,
Deputy Solicitor General Malcolm Stewart was asked by Justice Samuel Alito if the government s
current power over political campaigns would allow them to censor books made by corporations; he
responded with the statement that aligned with the government s position, yes they could. As a

Another argument against the reform of campaign finances is the cost of a single election cycle for a
candidate. Even if everyone in America paid $3 in taxes, the fund would not be large enough to fund
more than one candidate. Referring back to the previous arguments against the problem of campaign
finances, the first amendment currently protects political speech, and the idea of public funded
elections might troublesome Constitutionalists. One final argument against public funding is the cost.
Elections are being paid for by people, why would Americans want to tax some of their hard earned
money to support someone they do not support. The money a taxpayer would put towards the public
fund would go to Republicans, Democrats, Green, Libertarians, and all various political party
members if they met the

Organic Farming Can Help Feed The World And Will Help...
Technically the earth produces enough food for everyone, but the food is not able to reach those who
need food. University of California study found that relatively small, and potentially overestimated,
differences in yield between organic and conventional agriculture, despite historically low rates of
investment in organic cropping systems. (Berkeley) Organic agriculture has increased biodiversity.
There is an ambition that agriculture can help feed the world and will help maintain soil (Berkeley). A
student at Berkeley says, Increasing that proportion of agriculture that uses sustainable, organic
methods of farming is not a choice, it s a necessity (Kreman).
There are some things that are bad about organic farming. Three quarters of what American farmers
produce actually goes to feeding our animals, making ethanol, and not the hungry (Morello). Organic
farming could produce 40% more food if used in other countries. Organic Farming will produce
higher yields such as rice, corn, and wheat. It actually does better than modern agriculture techniques.
In countries such as India, Brazil, Kenya, and Guatemala have doubled, almost tripled their yield by
using organic farming, mostly because those countries can t afford or access fertilizer (Morello). Like
it was said that some countries can t afford the fertilizer and pesticides. If agriculture was switched to
organic it would be cheaper which could give an economic advantage.
Organic Farming can improve soil fertility and

Firewalls are set up on computers to help protect computers and other devices from attacks from
potentially harmful websites and other resources. Proxies are servers that act as a middle man for
computers. They allow users to make indirect connections to other servers. The LAN to WAN domain
is where the infrastructure connects to the Internet. Updates, firewalls and proxies will help to keep
things running and help to keep it protected. The fifth domain is the WAN domain. In this domain, the
network security application that is apart of it is the intrusion detection system/intrusion prevention

  • 2. Brunelleschi s Pazzi Chapel Analysis This is a short essay on the Brunelleschi s Pazzi Chapel, located in Florence, Italy. It examines the contribution of the monument to the development of architecture and how it conforms to the architect s style. It further examines what influenced Brunelleschi s goal of creating a centralized effect to his structures. About Brunelleschi s Pazzi Chapel In 1419 Brunelleschi was charged with the task of having to complete the dome for the chapel located in Florence, Italy. The task occupied a significant part of Brunelleschi s life as it came with enormous challenges because no dome of the kind had ever been put up since time immemorial (Kleiner). Besides becoming an architectural problem, the dome astute engineering skill and Brunelleschi invented and patented hoisting machines that could be used for undertaking the requisite masonry for the dome. The dome had in excess of 4 million bricks and it rested on a drum as opposed to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Brunelleschi s monument has a significant place in the development of architecture. First, the elders of Florence had forbidden the construction of structures with buttresses. This provided an industrial challenge as engineers and architects were baffling over the way structures could stand without buttresses (Kleiner). Brunelleschi s dome had a base tensioned by the use of horizontal chains of wood and iron. This cured the problem and many architects have referred to this technology in their designs. Secondly, earlier designs close to that of Brunelleschi s had failed to pick up because there were no hoisting machines that could be used to undertake the masonry. The discovery and patenting of the hoisting machines helped solve the puzzle and, to date, all means of hoisting have come up through cranes of all types (Kleiner). All these means of hoisting owe their success to Brunelleschi s discovery during the construction of the dome at Florence ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Volkswagen s Impact On The Electric Car Industry Recently electric cars have become very popular in the United States and around the world, but they are nothing new. The first electric car was invented more than a hundred years ago in 1832 by Scottish inventor Robert Anderson, but it wasn t until the late 1890s and early 1900s when electric cars really became popular. Twenty eight percent of the cars produced in 1900 were powered by electricity, and electric cars represented one third of all cars in New York City, Boston, and Chicago. However, its popularity was short lived when people lost interest in electric cars because of their short range, their lack of horse power, and the availability of gasoline. The introduction of new electric cars and new car makers like Tesla have boosted the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first step to make gasoline is to locate the main ingredient, which is petroleum. Petroleum is usually found in geological formations beneath the earth s surface. After they find the petroleum, they have to drill into the rock and extract the crude oil. Sometimes when they are drilling the pressure from the oil and the gases trapped inside are extremely high that it causes blowouts. The Deepwater Horizon was an ultra deep water offshore drilling rig. In 2010, while it was drilling in the Gulf of Mexico an uncontrollable blowout caused an explosion that killed eleven crewmen and sinking the Horizon. When it sank it left behind the largest oil spill in U.S water. The problem with spills says Joye, is that That stuff s not going to stay put. It s going to move around. • 4. Stereotyping And The American Cinema Stereotyping Arabs in Hollywood Stereotyping is a very common tool used by film makers because it is a simple way of establishing a trait of a character in a movie but it provides a single sided portrait of certain people based on their sex, gender, religion, race or age. As an example the way Arabs, particularly Palestinians, are portrayed in cinema. The American cinema has painted a picture full of misconceptions about them and created a stereotype that has been exacerbated in many movies since the dawn of hollywood. Because Cinema is a powerful tool that manipulates and reshapes the thoughts of audiences by making spectators passively consume all presented material, it made it easy to manipulate the minds of people to serve a political agenda mainly the Israeli Palestinian conflict. Jack Valenti a former president and CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America had said: Washington and Hollywood spring from the same DNA . Since the founding of Israel in 1948, every American administration has made it clear which side it is on. On the other hand, it failed to support the millions of Palestinians who are loosing their homes, their lands, and their lives to the occupation. In the contrary, they have always been projected as the evil that wants death to Israel and America. And that is where cinema comes in, it goes to reinforce that image in the minds of people so they are less compassionate and sympathetic to the palestinian people as Israel is expanding in ... • 5. How To Write A Short Story Of Lincoln s Wife While residing in New Salem, Lincoln became acquainted with Ann Rutledge. Apparently he was fond of her, and certainly he grieved with the entire community at her untimely death, in 1835, at the age of 22. Afterward, stories were told of a grand romance between Lincoln and Rutledge, but these stories are not supported by sound historical evidence. A year after the death of Rutledge, Lincoln carried on a halfhearted courtship with Mary Owens, who eventually concluded that Lincoln was deficient in those little links which make up the chain of woman s happiness. She turned down his proposal. So far as can be known, the first and only real love of Lincoln s life was Mary Todd. High spirited, quick witted, and well educated, Todd came from a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Like most married couples, the Lincolns also had their domestic quarrels, which sometimes were hectic but which undoubtedly were exaggerated by contemporary gossips. She suffered from recurring headaches, fits of temper, and a sense of insecurity and loneliness that was intensified by her husband s long absences on the lawyer s circuit. • 6. Physics of Rainbows Essay When the Sun s light is refracted on passing through tiny rain droplets falling in the air a Rainbow is formed. Rainbows only need light from the sun or the moon and a large amount of spherical raindrops to form in the atmosphere. The rainbows can be compared to mini prisms. The light is refracted ( bending of light as it passes from one medium to another ) and it causes different wavelengths (or colors) of the white light to separate. Whether these wavelengths of light will pass through the raindrop or reflect depends on the angle the light strikes the back of the raindrop. If a wavelength of the light strikes the back of the raindrop at an angle less than 48 degree relative to the normal then the light will pass through the raindrop. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact a rainbow is made up of the entire spectrum of colors from red to violet and beyond to the ultraviolet and infrared sections of the spectrum, which the eye is not capable of detecting. The speed of the wavelength of white light before it hits the raindrop determines the color a raindrop will emit. If the wavelength of white light travels at a slow speed, then the wavelength of light will bend more when it enters the raindrop. Wavelength of the color violet is bent the most when it enters the raindrop. While red light is bent the least when it enters the raindrop. The violet light will emerge from the raindrop at an angle of 40 degrees relative to the observer s line of sight. While red light will emerge at an angle of 42 degrees. Thus, violet light has the shortest wavelength. Red, being at the opposite edge, has the longest wavelength. Moving from the violet edge through the colors to red at the opposite edge the wavelength gets longer. Other colors of the spectrum can be seen in between 40 and 42 degrees relative to the observer s line of sight. It is important to note that only one color of light is emitted from each raindrop. A large amount of raindrops produce a wide spectrum of colors of a rainbow. There are certain colors which cannot be seen by the eye. This is why the observer sees four to five solid colors of a rainbow. The color bands of a rainbow always have the same order since the shorter wavelengths of light are refracted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The company is wanting to create an open pit copper and nickel mine that is located north of Hoyt Lakes in the Superior National Forest (BC Hydro). They plan to call this project the NorthMet Mining Project. There is a dire need for nickel and copper in America, and building this mine will help obtain these resources. There are many pros and cons to the mine being built in one of Minnesota s National Forests. The building of this mine would help obtain the necessary resources that the United States is lacking, but will also destroy the natural state of the Superior National Forest and many habitats of the animals living within the forest. In my opinion, I do not think that building this mine will benefit the United States because of all the damage to the natural land that it will cause. Another small benefit to the mine would be the resources that we can obtain from this region ( Investing in our region and state for substantial economic returns ). The Most Famous Poet By William Yeats The Important Isn t Appreciated (An analysis of Sailing to Byzantium by William Yeats) William Butler Yeats is considered the most famous poet throughout the modernism era. The most memorable writings are considered romantic visionary writings; romantic meaning looking towards that past and visionary looking towards the future. Throughout the twentieth century these ideas were not very popular or even talked about very often. Yeats had a new approach that drew people in and made them realize the idealism of these ideas. Because of this it made William Yeats the most famous poet of the modernism period. • 10. Art Reflection Paper When I visited the Tampa Museum of Art, I walked around looking at all of the beautiful artwork on display. I chose a piece that stuck out to me and reminded me of the carnivals and fairs I went to growing up in my hometown with family. Choosing just one piece to write about was a difficult decision, but I chose to write about Carrousels by Don Jacot. This piece was created with oil on linen in 1992 and is 50x72 . I believe the subject matter of this piece has to do with childhood and memories. I noticed in this piece that there were not many people on the rides or around the picture at all. This interested me, so I decided to look at other artworks he has created and most of the others are empty as well. I feel this has something to do with him having an empty childhood, but still has the memories of him going out. He also tends to lean more towards using the brighter primary colors such as red, blue, and yellow. I figured he chose these because a child would be more fascinated in something bright and colorful instead of dull and plain. One of the formal elements that stood out to me the most was color. I chose this because color is such a big aspect in this piece of work. Blue, red, and yellow are the most used in this work and are brightly intensified. The vibrant colors caught my eye right away when I saw the picture. The second formal element that is shown in this picture is line. I feel this element goes with the picture because there are many geometrical shapes and lines that direct you to certain aspects. One of the main eye catching features is the Ferris wheel in the background. The wheel catches the eye because all of the lines in the middle draw attention to it. The tents on top of the rides in the back, the fence, and poles/bars on the ride are all very clean cut. Overall the lines in the work lead your eye all around the composition of the piece. Another element that I thought this picture has is shape. Shape is significant as well because the lines in the picture form these figures. For example, the lines that are used on top of the ride tents form triangles, which lead back to shape. This picture includes many geometrical forms all around the work such as the rectangular benches, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Tim Burton’s Edward Scissorhands Essay Tim Burton s Edward Scissorhands Tim Burton s only accomplishment in Edward Scissorhands was creating a hackneyed version if Beauty and the Beast set in middle suburbia. Major innovations were made in entertaining the eyes for about two hours with contrasting scenery and 1950 s style home décor. Burton in collaboration with Caroline Thompson, created a tale about an alluring, and uncooperative beauty and a beast who falls in love with her. Predictably, the beast Edward (Depp), possesses innocence, peace, and all those qualities that normally aren t expected for such a creature to have. Additionally, the beauty Kim (Ryder) is the one of the few who can see through Edward s disguise. Set in the 50 s in a seemingly nice suburban ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Burton s characters reflect the typical stereotypes about middle suburbia. Kim s parents are the typical idealistic parents that believe anything can be fixed with a few dabs of facial cream and a good helping of meatloaf. There is the curious little brother that becomes a nuisance as the beautiful sister approaches her teens. The parents just hang back and see everything as just part of another phase like ballerina lessons, and cowboys and Indians. Kim s boyfriend in the muscle head jock set for Harvard with a rich dad going through a mid life crisis with a neo futuristic bachelor pad. The neighbors are the typical nosey neighbors who fall into the Edward hair cut fad. Much of the relationship between Kim and Edward revolves around the penetration of Edwards psyche. As the creation of a mad scientist with the heart of gold, Edward in turn must have the innocence of the child he meant to create. Much like Frankenstein, the true beauty of the monster is hidden beneath the layer of physical horror and misunderstanding by the beholder. • 12. The Importance Of Reasoning In Critical Thinking Society today requires individuals to develop skills to make informed, thought driven decisions, rather than quick hasty decisions, in many situations both personally and professionally. Decisions like these are made based on critical thinking skills that are not inherited but developed through many years of training both of the mind and of one s thought processes. Understanding how thinking occurs and analyzing the thought processes are steps that critical thinkers use on a daily basis (Paul Elder, 2012). In addition, according to Celuch Slama (2000), critical thinking is essential to lifelong learning and is developed through improved reasoning and communication skills. Oftentimes, reasoning and thinking are used interchangeably; however, reasoning represents the higher order thinking skills (Paul Elder, 2012). Accordingly, thinking can be conscious or unconscious; however, reasoning is always conscious and requires logic (Difference Between Thinking and Reasoning, 2016). Understanding the eight elements of reasoning associated with developing intellectual traits, is important for critical thinking (Paul Elder, 2012). Reasoning always has a purpose which in turn is the goal or objective of the thought (Paul Elder, 2012). Developing a budget for Christmas shopping to prevent overspending is an example of reasoning with a purpose. Questioning or trying to figure out a problem is another element of reasoning (Celuch Slama, 1999). Asking ourselves questions, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 1980, Samuel Doe had led a coup d état to overthrow the government of Tubman. In 1985, elections were held in the country, and it was considered to be highly fraudulent. A coup was organized, but it was not successful. In 1989, Charles Taylor arrived in the country from Ivory Coast and led an uprising against the government of Samuel Doe. During the uprising, two factions arose with one staying with Taylor and the other supporting Prince Johnson. Johnson fought for the capital, and he executed Doe while taking the city. The emerging conflicts saw Taylor and Johnson fighting over the control of Monrovia. The civil war led to over 200,000 deaths. After the election of Taylor, peace reigned for two years before the second civil war started. The war began in 1999 when a rebel group that was backed by Guinea, which was a neighboring country, invaded northern Liberia. The Liberians United for Reconciliation and Democracy (LURD) fought against Taylor forces. Civilians were the most affected because they were between the two warring factions. In 2003, another rebel group was formed known as Movement for Democracy in Liberia. This group emerged from the south and by mid 2003, the government controlled only a third of the country. Class/Section 11 December 2012 Strange Career of Jim Crow Significance The author of this report is asked to answer to a series of specific questions as it relates to a certain book written about Jim Crow and the wider historical and social significance of the same. The Supreme Court decision that involved Jim Crow and the separation of blacks and whites is to be discussed as well as a general reaction to the book. All of this and more will be covered. The Woodward work is recognized as one of the most hard hitting and honest historical reviews of slavery and state sanctioned racism in the United States law and general practice. Historical Context of the Book The historical context of the Jim Crow book and of the wider Jim Crow issue is clear to anyone that has a modicum of historical understanding. The Jim Crow laws, as they came to be known, were the laws that codified the concept of separate but equal . Instead of sanctifying open and equal access for all races regardless of subject or the color of the person involved, it was a de facto allowance by the Supreme Court for separate but equal to be the law of the law rather than allowing for any pretense of equality for all being the norm. The racist practices of the Jim Crow laws were later affirmed by Plessy v. Feguson in 1896, which greatly exacerbated the use of the laws, especially in the South. • 17. Theme Of Time In A Rose For Emily In A Rose for Emily, Faulkner uses the aspect of time to accentuate details of the setting and vice versa. By disregarding the chronological order of development of Miss Emily s life, at first Faulkner gives the reader a finished complexity, and then allows the reader to examine this puzzle step by step, piece by piece. By doing this, he enhances the plot and portrays two different angles of time held by the characters. The first perspective, the world as the present, shows time as a progression and the past is a shrinking road. The second perspective, the world of tradition and the past, views the past as a huge meadow which no winter ever quite touches, divided from them now by the narrow bottleneck of the most recent decade of years. (5) The first perspective is based on Homer and the modern generation. The second is based on confederate soldiers and the older members of the Board of Aldermen. Emily holds the second view too, however for her there is no bottleneck separating her from the meadow of the past. Faulkner starts off the story with Miss Emily s funeral, where the men see her as a fallen monument (1) and the women are curious about the inside of her house. He draws a picture of a woman who is fragile because she has fallen, but still symbolic and important like a monument. The particulars of Miss Emily s house are very similar to her and symbolize what she stands for. It is set on what had once been the most select street. (1) The narrator, which is the ... • 19. Protecting Floodplains by Aaron Dante Mamiit Protecting Floodplains by Aaron Dante Mamiit Flooding is a constant issue faced by Metro Manila. Although there are times when flooding is merely an inconvenient and annoying event, there are also times when it develops into something much more frightening and dangerous. But why is Metro Manila so badly plagued by floods anyway? One of the reasons why Metro Manila constantly battles with the flood problem is because a large part of it is situated on a floodplain. What are floodplains? Floodplains are landscapes that are formed when running water, often in streams and rivers, transports eroded rock and other similar materials from their banks to a lower part of the Earth s surface. At these lower parts, the flow of water slows down, and the rock and materials that the water is carrying are dropped. This leads to the creation of deposital landforms. One of these landforms is the floodplain. Floodplains are nearly flat, hence the plains part of their name. The flood part, on the other hand, should be pretty obvious these floodplains are subject to periodic flooding. What happens on floodplains? Flooding occurs when water overflows from a stream or river. When the water levels become too high, the water flows out of the stream channel and over the stream banks, submerging the adjacent floodplain. As water overflows, the material it carries sediments such as sand, gravel, clay, and silt are deposited on the floodplain. The larger particles are deposited first, closer ... Areas that have problems with acid rain are those that contain many running cars and a large population of people in one place, such as cities. Areas near electric companies that burn fossil fuel or manufacturing industries also face acid rain. Even areas that are far from electric companies and manufacturing industries face the wrath of acid rain as SO2 and NOx can travel far through wind and air currents. Why do they have acid rain? These places have acid rain because of the amount of SO2 and NOx that is being created. The burning of fossil fuels that electric companies do release sulfur dioxide that spreads through the air, which forms acid rain. Heat that radiates off internal combustion engines(cars) forms nitrogen dioxide. Which is also used in the making of acid rain. With the amount of cars that are being used in one city, acid rain is bound to be a problem. What damages does acid rain cause? 1. Acid rain breaks down the metal of structures in cities, like buildings and statues. 2. It pollutes the water and kills living organisms in ecosystems. 3. It creates smog and pollutes the air. • 25. The Common Technique for Free Throw Introduction The basketball game played by two teams consisting of five players. In the basketball game, the basketball player tries to outscore their opponent by passing, handling or dribbling the basketball into position for shooting the ball into their offensive basket. When either of the team player violated or foul, the fouled player attempts a free throw of the ball changes (Mood, Masker Rink, 1991). The free drop is important later in the game because of the free throws comprise a significantly larger portion of total points made during the final 5 minutes than the first 35 minutes of the game for both gaining and losing teams (Kozar, 1994). The fouled player required to shoot from the free throw line. The free throw line is 15 feet from the basket and has ample time to attempt the shot, so that is the easiest shots in basketball. A successful free throw needed a good concentration, relaxation, but the most important is a good mechanic in the shot. Also, the player does more practice can increase the success percentage in a free throw. This paper will be concentrating on the common technique of free throw which are including the approach and stance phase, backswing phase, force producing phase, follow through and projectile motion. Approach and stance phase Most of the basketball player has different preliminary movement to prepare free throw. The basketball player attempted to relax themselves and free the muscle tension before they shot which are shaking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. Animals In The Enigma Of Animal Suffering In The Enigma of Animal Suffering, the author implies that animals may not be so different from human beings in regards to feeing love and pain. The author mainly focuses on talking about farm animals since those are the type that are mainly consumed. He uses analogies by comparing animals to some delicate situations people actually experienced. For example, he compared cows being inseminated to a person being sexually assaulted. These analogies are difficult to think about in a different perspective, but it definitely makes you think. He highlights th way these farm animals are treated before they are slaughtered and defends the fact that they have feelings as well. Because some of us do not see them as our own or the way our priorities are when it comes up tp the business industry, we ignore everything else. The way we treat animals in general not just ... • 27. The American Dream In The Overnighters And The California... Since the inception of this country, the concept of the American Dream has been driven forward by men and women who believe that they can be as successful as they desire if they only roll up their sleeves, take charge of their lives, and work hard to accomplish their goals. Indeed, it was this idea that brought many foreigners to settle in this country in the first place. These types of men and women jump at any opportunity to better their lives, such as when hundreds of thousands flocked out to California in 1849 to become wealthy through the search and acquisition of gold. The underlying situation at play in The Overnighters is no different from the search for the New World or the California Gold Rush. The communities that form around such fountains of opportunity often strain the surrounding areas, however, and the Overnighter community of vagabonds and strangers that formed in the town of Williston, North Dakota was no different, ultimately becoming a source of conflict that forced the metaphorical moral hands of nearly everyone they surrounded. In recent years, the North Dakota oil boom has attracted men and women looking for wealth and success from all over the United States. In some cases, these people packed up nearly everything they have, left everything they had ever known, and made the hike to North Dakota to seek a job in the oil industry that they did not know they would receive once there. These individuals no doubt heard stories of plentiful jobs with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 30. How Does Music Affect The Social Movement On a global scale, our societies are extremely diverse. Very few traditions and passions can be paralleled between virtually every culture that endures today, or has ever existed. However, music is an exception. A 41,000 year old flute, made of bone with seven holes carved out confirms that the creation of music has been a practice since the emergence of mankind. Throughout millennia, music has played an intricate role in influencing our development, expression, relationships, mindset, decision making, communication, etc., and has touched every corner of the Earth. Music is one of the most efficient cultural tools utilized by many historical movements. Establishing a common connection to a particular musical taste, practice, or genre, amongst potential movement recruits can draw them to acknowledge other connections they share with one another, and eventually leads to form a connection to the larger purpose of the social movement. The artistic and emotional effects of music are indisputable. Feelings of anger, motivation, joy, sorrow, or inspiration can be created by music of any style, contingent on its context. It is irrefutable that music is an emotional medium, regardless of the intention of the composer or the performer. In particular, young people are open to the emotional messages laced throughout music, for they often feel marginalized ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 31. The Design of a Uniform Pore Structure Is Favorable to... The isotherms of three samples investigated by the nitrogen adsorption/desorption were shown in Figure 2. The curves of all three samples show hysteresis behavior and belong to type IV isotherms31. It suggests that our samples exhibit mesoporous structure with pore sizes larger than 5.6 nm (Table 2). The pore diameter of thiol functionalized SBA 15 calculated by the BJH theory is smaller than that of SBA 15, which is attributed to the anchoring of thiol moiety to the silanol group in the interior wall of SBA 1540. The decrease of pore size, while maintaining type IV isotherm characteristics in thiol functionalized SBA 15, is one possible reason that thiol moieties are located along the interior pore channels of SBA 15, not in the internal framework of SBA 15. The further decrease of pore size in Bi thiol functionalized SBA 15 can be explained by the attachment of bismuth to the thiol group, narrowing the inner pore channel of SBA 15. The BET surface areas of SBA 15, thiol functionalized SBA 15, and Bi thiol functionalized SBA 15 are 847, 512, and 347 m2/g, respectively. The pore volumes of those are 1.03, 0.85, and 0.62 cm3/g, respectively (shown in Table 2). The gradual decrease of the surface area and pore volume can also be understood in the attachment of thiol group to the inner wall of SBA 15 or bismuth to the thiol group as discussed above. Interestingly, the pore diameter of Bi SBA 15 is similar to that of SBA 15, indicating that bismuth is not impregnated to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Social Aspects Of A Person s Social Location There are many social aspects that construct a person s social location that determines who they are as an individual. Social location refers to an individual s place or location within their society. My social location has mainly been shaped by my past experiences with gender, social class, religion, and race. These four including many other factors have had a substantial influence on the way I view society. Growing up, I didn t always conform to the normal little girl ways set by my society. I had Barbie dolls but I also had Pokémon, Dinosaurs, and Ninja turtle toys. The social gender norm for girls would be tea parties and Barbie dolls, while boys would have dinosaurs and car toys. Though, I had a little bit of everything, as an only child I had a choice of what I thought I liked better. My parents didn t choose what was right for me, and I didn t so much care about what other kids had. I also started a sport very young, I joined a swim team because my dad taught me how to swim at the age of five and I adored it. Ever since then I started playing outdoors and I grew up playing basketball and football with the neighbor boys. Therefore, I always had the mindset that girls could do anything that boys could do, and gender didn t matter in most cases. Unlike the common belief that boys or men in general are better, or more superior. My parents raised me on a more neutral level and it changed my views from the social norm . Federal Government Pros And Cons On the other side of the issue, individuals in favor of the ruling claim that the federal government was denying the 1st amendment rights of everyone s political speech. An American Spectator article writes in favor of the court s ruling. Prior to the decision an individual such as George Soros is free to spend $20 million to promote his favored candidates, but if two or more individuals get together to do the same thing, neither can contribute more than $5,000 to the effort (Smith). Citizens United was simply fighting for their constitutional rights to freedom of speech. During the oral arguments of the court, Deputy Solicitor General Malcolm Stewart was asked by Justice Samuel Alito if the government s current power over political campaigns would allow them to censor books made by corporations; he responded with the statement that aligned with the government s position, yes they could. University of California study found that relatively small, and potentially overestimated, differences in yield between organic and conventional agriculture, despite historically low rates of investment in organic cropping systems. (Berkeley) Organic agriculture has increased biodiversity. There is an ambition that agriculture can help feed the world and will help maintain soil (Berkeley). A student at Berkeley says, Increasing that proportion of agriculture that uses sustainable, organic methods of farming is not a choice, it s a necessity (Kreman). There are some things that are bad about organic farming. Three quarters of what American farmers produce actually goes to feeding our animals, making ethanol, and not the hungry (Morello). Organic farming could produce 40% more food if used in other countries. Organic Farming will produce higher yields such as rice, corn, and wheat. It actually does better than modern agriculture techniques. In countries such as India, Brazil, Kenya, and Guatemala have doubled, almost tripled their yield by using organic farming, mostly because those countries can t afford or access fertilizer (Morello). Like it was said that some countries can t afford the fertilizer and pesticides. If agriculture was switched to organic it would be cheaper which could give an economic advantage. Goodeve, captivated by the volatility of unstable molecules and compounds, went on to research the severely understudied oxides of chlorine, and later, the oxides of sulfur. His studies included determining the heats of dissociation of Cl2O and ClO2 in a calorimeter and measuring vapour pressure.
