Norse Mythology Research Paper
What does every religion and culture around the world have in common? They all have some
form of divinity or gods. For the Scandinavian/ Germanic people or as they were sometimes called
the Vikings their particular brand of mythology is called Norse Mythology. Today almost everyone
has either seen or heard of the Thor movies. Although those are great movies they do not even touch
the surface of how deep and intricate Norse mythologytruly is. This entire culture of myth was
spread through words and stories of the Scandinavian Vikings to explain what and why things
happened in their world. This mythology spanned through many other cultures. Our days of the
week are even from the Scandinavian or Norse gods such as Thursday being Thor s day .... Show

The giants hail from Jotunheim, the fire giants from Muspelheim, the elves from Alfheim, dwarves
reside in Svartalfheim, the Midgard serpent resides in Midgard, and Hel herself resides in Helheim
(McCoy). The most notable monsters of mythology happen to be Loki s own children. Fenrir is
depicted as a giant wolf. He was raised by the gods in order to keep him under control. The
Midgard serpent is depicted as a giant snake wrapped around the Earth with its tail in its mouth.
Hel is a giantess and goddess and rules over Helheim, the realm of the dead (Norse Mythology
for Smart People). These three bring about Ragnarok. Ragnarok itself is known as the Doom of
the Gods (McCoy). The end starts with the death of Baldr by Loki. After this the realms fall into
chaos. Fenrir and Loki break free of their chains and giants descend on Asgard. Thor faces a tragic
end going up against Jormungand, the Midgard serpent, each slaying the other. Fenrir goes on to
swallow and destroy everything in his path before Odin stepped in to stop him. Odin himself
though he fought valiantly was killed by Fenrir. Fenrir was then destroyed by a lesser known son
of Odin s Vidar. After the death of Odin the end came and silence of Ginnunggagap or the anti
cosmic void was once again

Analyzing Networked Control Systems For Network Induced...
Abstract Networked Control Systems (NCS) are the control systems in which the control loop is
connected through a communication channel. There has been an increased attention to the use of
Network Control System (NCS) in recent years because of their cost effective and flexible
applications. But one of the major issues that need to be studied and solved in NCS is the delay of
the data transmission which occurs throughout the communication network in the system and thus
degrades the control systemperformance and also causes the system instability. This paper
basically presents an analysis of network delay in NCS. In this paper, we have designed a model
of delay control system for network induced delay using the simulation model of network control
system delay and thus analysed the effect of network delay on the performance of the control
system. The TrueTime toolbox of Matlab/Simulink is used for simulating the NCS model.
Keywords networked control system, network delay, control performance, truetime, stability
I.INTRODUCTION
In conventional control systems, control signals are sent over the loop using analog or digital
technology whereas in modern control systems, the control loop is closed through a real time
communication network by T. C. Yang et al. [1]. The Networked Control Systems (NCSs) are the
distributed control systems in which the system components (sensors, actuators and controllers) are
connected by communication networks [2]. One

Why Is Swan Lake An Importance Of The Ballets Around The...
Swan Lake has been an inspiration for choreographers and artists around the world. It is important
to recall that: The first full scale multicultural collaboration between an American and a Soviet
ballet company took place in Boston on May 3, 1990, when the Boston Ballet staged Swan Lake.
Within the production, Soviet danseurs partnered American Ballerinas, and American danseurs
partnered Soviet ballerinas. Even the sets, designed by an American artist, were constructed in the
Soviet Union (Crawford John, 2015: 44).
Countless new productions classical as well as modern have been produced over the last years:
for example, Neumeier s Illusions Like Swan Lake, Matthew Bourne s (male) Swan Lake, Mats Ek
s (modern) Swan Lake and recently Alexander ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This ranking system has its roots within the history. In the nineteenth century ballets were created
to show off the stars and the choreographies were designed to reinforce the stellar status of the
principal ballerina and her partner at center stage, encircled by soloists and ringed around by the
corps de ballet. Formerly men and women had different titles such as prima ballerina for the
principal dancer and premier danseur for the male principal, but nowadays ballet companies
adopt a gender neutral classification system. The hierarchy in the ranking has not only
consequences for the roles the dancers are casted for, but also the pay rates vary between the
grades. Generally, members of the corps de ballet earn between 25% and 50% of what a soloist
or a principal earns. The denomination of the different ranks depends from company to company,
for example at the Paris Opera Ballet the dancers are graded in ascending order as trainees,
quadrilles, coryphГ©es, sujets, premiers danseurs and Г©toiles, meanwhile the Royal Ballet of
London similarly grades its dancers from young dancers, artist, first artist, soloist and first soloist to
principal. The English National Ballet divides the dancers in even more categories: artists, first
artist, junior soloists, soloists, first soloists, character artists, principals, lead principals and guest
artists, meanwhile the American Ballet Theatre has only four grades: apprentices, corps de ballet,
soloists and

Disadvantages Of Health Insurance
Health Insurance Coverages
Health insurance coverage is a necessity used to decrease the cost of health care expense. Many
individuals require some version of health care coverage and depending on the situation, every
coverage has its own requirements. In the state of New Mexico, a discussion of the various health
insurance coverages based on age, employment, and status is being compared along the
contributions made to towards the premiums.
Medicare
Medicare is a federal health insurance program that targets individuals aged 65 years or older. Other
criteria that may qualify for Medicare is if an individual under the age of 65 has Lou Gehrig s
disease (ALS) or end stage renal disease (ESRD) (Olmos, 2017). Residents of New Mexico have
several options for types of coverage. Types of coverages offered in New Mexico is the Original
Medicare (Part A and B), Medicare Advantage, Medicare Part D and Medicare Supplemental
insurance also known as Medigap (Olmos, 2017). Part A and Part B includes hospital and
medical insurance. Medicare Advantage is considered Part C and during enrollment into this
program, premiums in Medicare Part B must be paid along with any charges from Part C.
Medicare Part D is the Prescription Drug Plan that provides coverage for prescription drugs. The
Medigap is a coverage that covers certain expenses that Original Medicare does not cover. Every
individual is different and may require different coverages.

Essay On In Flanders Fields
War essay
In war ,many terrible tragedies occur, leaving many people scarred and in grief and who can never
forget the nightmare of war. This paper will discuss In, Flanders fields by John Mccrae s,Dulce et
Decorum EST by Wilfred Owen and I sing of Olaf glad and big by ee cummings. This paper will be
discussing the different points of views that poets have about war and how it shapes our own
opinion ,of it because none of us have experienced war firsthand and have only heard about the
nightmare from those who have survived and lived to tell us their story.
John McCrae s idea of war is that it s like a game or sport .He writes about The torch , be yours to
hold high in line 12 .This image is like in the Olympics, where people are carrying the torch in
celebration. He feels that by recruiting more people to war and telling them that it s an honor to
die for their country, then there will be a bigger chance for victory. when really it s hell and
something that can t be forgotten no matter how hard the person tries . While in Wilfred Owen s
poem, he talks all about the horrors of war that people have seen and how they can never forget it.
For instance, when the poet is talking about the gas attack, he describes the person that couldn t get

Character Analysis Of Bigger Thomas
Bigger Thomas is not an ordinary character that is portrayed in racial poverty at the time. Were
used to seeing the same story every day from this time period. Only a few heroic people have
stood up but never like as we see here. Bigger Thomas is a representation of all black men of this
time: full of fear. There worried for themselves and for their own families. They try making a
living but due to their color, they are limited to very few things. The accidental murdering of
Mary, finally gave Bigger a purpose in life even though it wasn t a good one. Many times was
Bigger given the tension that he is powerless in this world like when Boris mentioned it to him
how it s a daily routine for all black men to live with stress. Bigger Thomas is a character that can
truly be presented as real life character with his struggles of poverty, racism, and he has to show
that he does in fact exist. Native Son is the story of Bigger Thomas and how he goes from an
absolute nobody to the most wanted man in the city. Right from the start we can see Bigger s
poverty level when he and his brother try catching the rat. That afternoon, Bigger and four of his
friends decide to rob an old white man but they are all afraid to do it since he is white and the
punishment would be huge for them if they are caught during or after act. Bigger picks a fight
with Gus for arriving late, just so he can stay out of it and then leaves toward the Daltonshouse. He

The Ethics Of Living Jim Crow Stylistic Devices
In The Ethics of Living Jim Crow by Richard Wright, various stylistic devices and rhetorical
strategies are used such as symbolism, and colloquial language. The use of Wright s symbolism
of the green growing things establishes how African Americans were disadvantaged in their
upcoming. In this, the white boys which lived beyond the tracks were able to hide behind trees,
hedges, and the sloping embankments of their lawns. The symbolism of these green things,
displays how white people had an upper advantage in society, having luxurious lives to hide
behind. Meanwhile, Wright remarked I didn t have any trees or hedges to hide behind displaying
how African Americans were not protected, leaving them easily discriminated against and futile
against attack. In this, Wright remarks that the green things grew into an overarching symbol of
fear. Furthermore, the use of colloquial language by white people displayed how they had the
freedom to say what they pleased, whereas Wright had to talk formally to white people using
phrases such as Yes, sir , and No, sir, Mr. Pease. Additionally, Wright had to question every word
he said, in an attempt to not to offend a white man, describing how To have said: Thank you!
would have made the white man think that you thought you were receiving from him a personal
service. For such an act I have seen Negroes take a blow in the mouth. Together, these stylistic
choices affect the tone and meaning of the work as they display the unjust

Cheating in American Schools
Cheating in American Schools A National Disgrace
Cheating by students in American schools has become a serious and growing problem. A 2005
poll of 12,000 college graduates in the contiguous United States with a 62% response rate showed
the following: 45% of all students cheated on an examination that counted toward 10 20% of their
grade and 51% cheated on an exam that counted toward 33 50% of their final grade. When asked
why they cheated, 70% of cheaters stated that they did not fear failing the exams on which they
cheated and that cheating for a higher grade was the primary motive. The most common method of
cheating involved electronic technologies such as instant messaging via telephone, e mail, internet
searches, and other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
83% of college professors queried replied to the poll. 94% of responders regarded cheating on their
campus as a serious threat to their college s quality and integrity. Almost all the professors who
responded believe that their has been an increase in student academic dishonesty in the last 10
years. Not only do professors fear that their schools risk defamation of reputation as a result of
cheating, but also that the rise in cheating will lead to an ignnorant workforce, incapable of meeting
the challenges of an increasingly technical and sophisticated society.
Electronic supported cheating allows students to falsify, lie and plagarize more successfully than
ever before. Most electronic devices used to cheat can be hidden in the palm of a hand or on a
student s lap without directing attention from a proctor or teacher. The push by parents to do what
it takes to succeed at all costs is one of many influences driving cheaters. Unfortunately, as a result
of cheating, American Colleges are producing fewer and fewer individuals capable of functioning
in our high tech society. Medical schools are accepting students with lower academic standing and
we are trying to fill the intellectual void by bringing foreign students into the U.S. graduate schools.
We are now seeing the effects of cheating in are markets and post graduate student profiles. Thee
dearth of well educated individuals in the U.S. has disrupted the work

Pro Bono Cons
Introduction The concept of mandatory pro bono and whether or not lawyers should be required to
participate in this public service has been the contentious subject of debate over recent years.
Focusing on Mirko Bagaric and Penny Dimopoulos statement: In our view not only do lawyers not
have a duty to act for free, but they are misguided in doing so and should, for the long term benefit
of the community, cease engaging in pro bono work, this essay will critically analyse the
implications of introducing mandatory pro bono into the legal profession by examining both the
positive and negative aspects through the issues of altruism, tradition, government funding and the
onus on small firms. Arguments for Mandatory Pro Bono The benefits of... Show more content on

Mirko Bagaric and Penny Dimopoulos argue that the introduction of mandatory pro bono will
only encourage the government to continue to decrease it s funding of legal aid services as the
government will further shirk the responsibility onto the legal profession. For example, the
current Australian budget has proposed yet another large decrease in government funding for
2017 2018, this includes the quarantining of some of the community legal centre funding.
Furthermore, it is not fair of the government to place an expectation on the legal to perform legal
services for free when there is no similar altruistic expectation placed on professional from other
areas, such as: physiotherapists, chiropractors, doctors and psychologists. All the services
provided by these other professions for free or at a discount are usually done so because the costs
are then subsidized by the government. The introduction of mandatory pro bono should not be seen
as a means for the government to avoid their responsibility to the legal community, instead if it is
to be introduce it would need to be followed by the agreement of the government to provide more
funding to legal

Native American Native Land
To be a Native American, one is not just born into the ethnicity, but it is the sacredness of the
culture, language, religion, and land that makes a person a true Native American, and without
these things, there are no Indigenous people. Developing a culture is human nature, and for
Native Americans, their culture revolves around the land, and to take that away is to take away
who they are. The land may not physically be a part of Native Americans, but without their
sacred land, there is a missing part of them. The building of telescopes on Mt. Graham is one
example of how the sacred Native land is being taken over. Just like how a wheel is a part of a
chariot, the sacred land is part of a Native American, and without it, Native Americans are not
whole. Their culture is seen as inferior to white culture because of the Racial Contract, and is
why their land is treated with disrespect. Native Americans sacred lands needs to be treated with
respect and protected because without it, they are no longer Native Americans, they are a group
of people without a culture to be a part of. The word sacred is defined as: considered to be holy
and deserving respect, especially because of a connection with a god; connection with religion;
considered too important to be changed (Cambridge Dictionary). But what is sacred to someone,
can that really be defined? What may be sacred and important to one person may mean nothing to
another, but that does not mean that others should be able to

Clinton appointed Andre to chief military intelligence officer. As the intelligence officer, Andre

For more than a year, Andre was conspiring with American General Benedict Arnold. Arnold, a
soldier hurt in battle and never properly compensated by the Army, considered flipping on the
Americans as a way out of the situation he was in. Peggy Shippin kept in contact with Andre
throughout these years and Andre asked Shippin for help to persuade Arnold to flip. Shippin
and Arnold got to know each other and eventually married. She told Arnold how he was not
being treated fairly by the Americans and that Britain would be able to offer him more. Arnold
agreed with his wife and eventually made plans with Andre to sabotage America. Clinton had
Andre set up a meeting with Arnold to retrieve plans of what West Point s set up was. The idea
was to gain control of the Hudson River cutting New England off from the rest of the colonies.
The theory was whoever controlled the Hudson had the power as it traveled down to New York
and was a clear line of trade and communication among the Americans. Arnold, who was a loose

Dome Of The Rock Essay
Both monuments are structurally sound as both monument holds valuable meanings. The massive
size of both structures requires a lot of support, and The Dome of The Rocks and The Cathedral of
Notre Dame utilizes such constructional technologies to just do that. Dome of the Rock utilizes
four piers and twelve columns to support the rounded drum that transitions into the two layered
dome, which is more than 20 meters in diameter (Elizabeth Macaulay Lewis, n.d., para. 6). This
part of the structure is important to be stable as under the dome lies a center stone of the
monument. Also, the octagonal wall contains 24 piers and columns to hold up the entire structure
as well ( Dome of the Rock, 2017, para. 2). For the case of The Cathedral of Notre Dame, vault

Notre Dame has such thing called flying buttress, it is an archway like structure that holds on to
most of the structure of the cathedral ( Notre Dame de Paris, 2017, para. 3). Dome of The Rock
on the other hand, does not require any external support due to the shape of the structure. Cathedral
of Notre Dame is in a shape of a basilica (cross like shape), but Dome of the Rock s main structure
is octagonally shaped, which is much more stable shape compare to the thin basilica shape of the

A Spiritual Gain but a Financial Lose
Meditation has always been seen as a way to keep the mind and soul healthy. Mediation dates back
to 1500 BCE originating in Ancient India. The practice soon started to expand and adapt to other
cultures around the world. Some of the earliest references to meditation are found in the Hindu
scriptures and it was around the 6th to 5th centuries that other forms of meditation developed into
Confucian, Taoist China, and Buddhist India (Taham). This spiritual and religious practice has
been around for thousands of years, benefiting many people. However, in the year 2017 mediation

Research suggests that meditation may physically change the brain and body and could potentially
help to improve many health problems and promote healthy behaviors. In a 2012 study,
researchers compared brain images from 50 adults who meditate and 50 adults who don t meditate.
Results suggested that people who practiced meditation for many years have more folds in the
outer layer of the brain. This process (called gyrification) may increase the brain s ability to process
information (Meditation: In Depth).
In many ways, the scientific studies showing how positive mediation has created this craze of
mediation. Mediation can be linked to many exercise practices such as yoga. Meditation and yoga
go hand in hand. Spending a few minutes of meditating then go into a hard body workout of yoga
than ending the class with meditation. Many private yoga studies promote the practice of
meditation and yoga increasing prices of their facility. Famous instructor Holly Rilinger is a perfect
example. Rilinger has created this workout called Calm and Cardio starting with a five minute
guided meditation and then launches into cardio and strength training intervals using bodyweight
and dumbbells. During each song, you alternate between two exercises while moving to the beat of
the booming music (Held). She has combined meditation with exercises and is now using this
technique of meditation to create an empire.
Exercise meditation is not the only thing that is expanding. There are

What Were The Main Ideas Of Islam
What were the main ideas of Islam?
The people of Islam had a city called Mecca, where pilgrimage took place. It consisted of temples
with Arab God and a large stone called the Kaabah. Muhammad was born in 570 in Mecca, and
raised by his uncle after the death of both his parents. He was a very pious man, and he prayed in
caves. At the age of 40, a message was sent to Muhammad through Gabriel from Allah, who was
also the God of Jews and Christians. The messages sent from Allah to Mohammad through out his

Joseph Conrad was born Jozef Teodor Konrad Korzeniowski on December 3, 1857 to Polish

written in 1900 was a story about an outcast young sailor who came to terms with his pasts act of

Heart of Darkness, written in 1902, was a novel that described a British man s journey deep into

In these two literary pieces, many of signature elements of Conrad s writing can be seen. Faraway

are just some of the many different writing style that could have been seen in both literary pieces.
Throughout Conrad s story and novel, he was very contempted to show situations that drew
parallels between the inner lives of single characters and the broader sweep of human history. The
success of Lord Jim, and Heart of Darkness, didn t slow down Conrad from creating more novel,

of passengers vs. vehicle capacity. For example, are you seeking a QuinceaГ±era limo rental that
will accommodate the 14 Damas (women attendants) and the Quince girl? Or, will you also
include the Chambelanos (15 guy escorts)? The passenger count will determine what size
limousine to consider or whether it will be necessary to secure two QuinceaГ±era limousine
rentals. You may not be aware that limo service is at a premium during prom season and on
Saturday nights. Couples take advantage of events such as wine tastings on Saturdays. However,
Sundays are low demand days. By holding the celebration on Sunday, you may receive a discount.
At any rate, it s something to think about. Your little princess will want to make a grander grand
entrance to her QuinceaГ±era than any of her friends. She has likely described her perfect
limousine in detail. The Cadillac Escalade is trending this year. It s luxurious both outside and
inside. This exquisite limo will help your Quince make a spectacular grand entrance. Also, consider
the Lincoln Stretch limo. Your daughter will tingle with excitement while riding in this top of the

Write A Short Story Of A Story
I couldn t sleep and I wasn t going to be able to sleep. I was an insomniac despite my parents
telling me I just wanted to be up late at night. Please. No one wants to be awake at 4:30 in the
morning. But I tossed and turned anyway, trying desperately to get my body to rest. Eventually
I decided to give up and position myself on a chair facing my window. I tried to do this when I
couldn t sleep because it was peaceful outside and sometimes I relaxed so much I fell asleep.
Other times I just watched the sun rise. My window faced the backyard, a huge plot of land that
housed a miniature forest of sorts. The wind was blowing that night and the leaves on the tree
shook gently, quietly. Every once in a while, I could hear an owl s hoot slice through the silence.
I felt myself starting to nod off when suddenly, all of the leaves shot off the trees. So quickly I
wasn t even sure I saw it. But there they sat, trees with bare branches in the middle of March
when they should ve been green and lush. I tried to get up slowly, to look closer at the window,
but then I saw it. Rising between the tree roots was a shadowy black figure. It wasn t perfectly
formed and seemed to be covered in tiny white dots. Almost like spores. Then I remembered my
dad complaining as he and I ripped mushrooms out of the ground a few weeks before. He had

recommended to use half the dose of the benzodiazepine.
Patients with liver failure
The metabolism of Diazepam is impaired in liver disease, but it may be used cautiously in mild to
moderate impairment (reduce the dose by 50%).
For patients with severe or acute liver impairment, use lorazepam as an alternative as its
metabolism is not impaired in liver disease.

Children s Development And Their Learning
There are various areas within the teaching role that are important in order to aid children through
their development. There are three key principles; Planning, Teaching and Assessment (Education
Scotland, 2011).
Throughout this essay I will focus on how these principles affiliate children s development and their
learning. Two English Lessons completed during the introductory placement will underpin this
evaluation.
Planning
At the core of any planning lies the National Curriculum. Before Planning can even begin a teacher
must know what the children need to learn. When the teacher gave me my topic s I went straight
to the National Curriculum. It is also important in order to plan for progression to know what they
have previously covered so I arranged a meeting with the class teacher. Once all this information
had been established I collated my planning.
Denby, (2012) claims starting a lesson with what children already know lends itself to the
importance of planning. He believes lessons must be planned to accommodate progression. It is
important that teachers feel confident about what their pupils know or can do. Once this has been
determined their next challenge is to plan lessons that allow children to collectively move forward.
There are three key areas of planning that are covered within schools, Long term planning, Mid
term planning and Short term planning (Lesson planning).
The school initially sets out an overall curriculum framework that fits in the schools aims,

Toxic Leadership In Special Forces (SF)
Toxic leadership can develop within Special Forces (SF) because of concern for compromising
command authority and because the personality profile of a toxic leader can be mistaken as type A
personality that thrives in SF.
LTG Ulmer fully discusses the Army s concern of compromising command authority and how that
can foster toxic leaders. SF is susceptible to toxic leadership for this same reason. A sergeant major
will crush a group of teammates who try to solve their toxic leadership issue through collective

Some might say she should not sign the petition or she will get blacklisted. If she gets sent home
by any injury, she cannot work for money so she has to have better working environments. The
first reason why Lyddie should sign the petition is because of her low compensation. Her mother
sent Lyddie to work to pay off a debt owed by her family. This means that Lyddie needs higher
wages in order to pay off what they owed. According to Lyddie it stated, Lyddie was given
another loom and then another, she could tend all four and felt a satisfying disdain for those
who could not do the work. (89) This shows that Lyddie can keep up the pace but does she know
when to stop? If she does not know what the debt is, how can she possibly know how much
money she needs to earn? She could have been doing this superfluous work in order to keep her
compensation the same. You can infer that the family debt is high because of Lyddie getting an
upraised pay among all the other girls, yet she cannot pay off the debt of what they owed. In a

Lithium Ion Batteries For Electric Vehicle Batteries Essay
Introduction
A lithium ion (Li ion) battery is a type of rechargeable battery which uses a lithium ion that moves
from a positive electrode (cathode) to a negative electrode (anode) during charging and vice versa
during discharge. Lithium ion batteries are less environmentally damaging than batteries containing
heavy metals such as cadmium and mercury, but recycling them is still far preferable to
incinerating them or sending them to landfill. Lithium ion batteries are made up of one or more
generating compartments called cells. Each cell is composed of three components: an anode, a
cathode, and a chemical called an electrolyte in between them.
Lithium ion batteries are becoming more common in portable electronic devices due to their high
energy density, lack of memory effect, and high charge and discharge rate capabilities. Research
and development work is ongoing to improve safety and increase capacity, charge/discharge rate,
and lifetime. Demand for electric vehicle batteries is currently small, but it is expected to grow very
quickly. China, Japan, South Korea, France, and the United States are the major lithium ion battery
manufacturers for hybrid and electric vehicle applications.
A lot of information from different sources was gathered with the purpose of comparing different Li
ion batteries mechanisms, cathode and anode materials, structure and fabrication procedures, and
their respective advantages and disadvantages.

A continual upward trend in the price of crude oil in recent years has led to increasing concerns
about its economic implications, both abroad and in South Africa. This study looks at the rising oil
prices and their impact on the South African economy within the framework of supply and demand,
looking at the impact rising oil prices has had on demand and supply for vehicles as well as the

PRIMARY FACTORS
Taking into account the primary factors that can cause a change in demand (or a shift in the
demand curve) are
consumer income
prices of related goods
advertising and consumer preferences
population
seasonal factors
Understanding these factors in relation to rising oil costs and vehicle demand makes it possible to
predict the market response to real economic events.
Consumer income
Over the year s South African consumer income has increased which has resulted in an increasing
demand of motor vehicles. The demand for inferior goods (i.e. public transport) decreased as more
people chose to purchase their own vehicles.
Prices of related goods
Changes in the price of related goods (substitutes and complements) leads to changes in demand.
An increase in the price of Oil as a complement good has caused a decrease in the demand of Motor
Vehicles especially since the late 2006 when there has been a steep increase in the oil prices.
Advertising and consumer preferences
Consumers are becoming more environmentally conscience and this has resulted in a steady
demand for eco friendly modes of transport. With the introduction of hybrid vehicles as well as
plans to improve public transport within South Africa consumers are becoming less reliant on the
necessity of a motor vehicle as an only means of transport.
Population
The growing increase in population of consumers has increased demand.

the unspoken notion that previous historians carefully avoided the issues of slavery. During this
time there was enslavements of both blacks and whites, however, there was different legal

De Pauw, discusses the majority and minority statistics, reflecting the gender history of the
population of the thirteen colonies during this time. Statistics shows the majority of the population
were indeed the less fortunate enslaved blacks, indentured white males and all females. Ironically
the minority numbers were the actual white males that pursued the liberty of this nation. De Pauw

To What Extent Did Lords Control The Lives Of Peasants
Lords controlled the lives of peasants in several different ways throughout the middle ages. The
peasants could be manipulated by fear, the justice system, and finances. With these methods, the
lord could exercise complete control over the commoners of his fief.
One technique used by lords to control serfs was efficient use of the justice system. During the
middle ages, the lord had political authority in society. Because of this he was able to use the
justice system to his advantage, which included the right to try peasants in court for breaking the
manor s rules. The lord had the power to punish the troublemaker as he saw fit, with fines or
imprisonment. An account that illustrates the lord s power to try and convict the serfs is, From
the whole township of Little Ogbourne, except seven, for not coming to wash the lord s sheep, 6s.

saw fit. In this case they were fined six shillings, and eight pence for their trespasses against the

One of the main features of the manorial system was that serfs were bound to a certain manor,
and required to work that land for the lord. The serfs were tied to the land because of their debts

he had to keep the serfs bound to his land. This meant that he must keep them in debt, which led
to many fees and taxes. An example of one of these taxes is, And after the death of any one of the
aforesaid villeins, the lord shall have as a heriot his best animal... . This example shows the extent
that the lord went to to keep the serfs in debt, so that he could maintain control over the

Parenting Styles Essay
When my first child was born I there was considerable interest in Mozart CDs. These Cd s were
marketed with the promise that playing them would enrich the intellectual and creative
development of my child. Behind the popularity of selling products on such an idea is an
unfortunate theme: Parenting can be done quickly and with little inconvenience. The reality is that
good parenting does not require classical music, but instead time and effort. As children grow from
infancy into adolescence the role of parenting broadens. How parents react to their child s actions
communicates a standard of appropriate and inappropriate behavior that are fulfilled with varying
degrees of conscious awareness. There are two major dimensions that underline... Show more

What are the differences between children who have parents that show little affection when
compared to those who liberally hug and kiss? Does it matter if some parents are strict while
others are lax? Does it make a difference if some parents spank their children while others go on
in seemingly endlessly discussions? As my son once said to his older brother, Just say you
understand so he ll shut up. Diana Baumrind (1966, 1967, 1978) decided to find out the answers to
those questions by determining what effect parenting styles, as interactions between the two
dimensions of parental acceptance and control, had on children s social and intellectual
competence. To start with, Baumrind identified four distinct parenting styles: neglectful,
permissive, authoritarian, and authoritative. Neglectful parenting is a style in which the parent is
very uninvolved in the child s life. These parents seem to focus more on their own lives and are
not particularly involved with or supportive of their children. They appear to be detached from the
child and provide only for their basic physical and emotional needs and not much else. They offer
little or no help with homework, provide minimal supervision, and spend little time together.
Permissive (or indulgent) parents are responsive and accepting. They make few demands of their
children, indulge their children s desires, and use little punishment. They allow their children free
expression of impulses and set few

A Separate Peace Title Analysis
Nikki La
Mrs. Donaldson
H. English 2, Period 6
3 October 2017
Title Meaning in A Separate Peace
The title of the book, A Separate Peace is completely relevant to the story of the two boys Gene
and Phineas and their relationship. The title shows how the boys put themselves in completely
different realities, a separate peace. This first occurs when Gene manages to push Phineas out of
the tree causing him to shatter one of his legs. Phineas refuses to believe Gene, his best friend
would purposely hurt him. I don t know, I must have just lost my balance. It must have been that. I
did have this idea, this feeling that when you were standing there beside me, yгѓј I don t know, I
had a kind of feeling (Knowles 66). This quote shows that Phineas has ... Show more content on

Both Gene and Phineas are confronted with the truth when Leper tells of what he saw on that
frightful day. He compares what he saw to an engine. I can t think of the name of the engine. But
it has two pistons. What is that engine? Well anyway, in this engine first one piston sinks, and
then the next one sinks. The one holding on to the trunk sank for a second, up and down like a
psi on, and then the other one sank and fell (Knowles 176). Phineas is finally confronted with the
truth behind the incident and that his best friend did in fact make him fall off the tree. Phineas is
so overwhelmed after hearing this, he falls down the stairs, which ends up being fatal. Then these
separate sounds collided into the general tumult of his body falling clumsily down the white
marble stairs (Knowles 177). After the death of Phineas, Gene attains ultimate peace and peace of
mind as he gets older and understands Phineas nonviolent nature. Only Phineas never was afraid,
only Phineas never hated anyone (Knowles 204). After the death, Phineas himself also attains
peace, with his heart at peace with Gene. Gene feels very alone without Phineas. He no longer has

Description Of A Graph
Use the map to create a graph where vertices represent street intersections and edges represent
streets. Define c(u,v) = 1 for all edges (u,v). Since a street can be traversed, start off by creating a
directed edge in each direction, then make the transformation to a flow problem with no
antiparallel edges as described in the section. Make the home the source and the school the sink.
If there exist at least two distinct paths from source to sink then the flow will be at least 2
because we could assign f(u,v) = 1 for each of those edges. However, if there is at most one
distinct path from source to sink then there must exist a bridge edge (u, v) whose removal would
disconnect s from t. Since c(u, v) = 1, the flow into u is at most 1. We may... Show more content on

Exercise 26.2 10
Suppose we already have a maximum flow f. Consider a new graph G where we set the capacity of
edge (u, v) to f (u, v). Run Ford Fulkerson, with the mod ification that we remove an edge if its
flow reaches its capacity. In other words, if f(u,v) = c(u,v) then there should be no reverse edge
appearing in residual network. This will still produce correct output in our case because we
never exceed the actual maximum flow through an edge, so it is never advantageous to cancel
flow. The augmenting paths chosen in this modified version of Ford Fulkerson are precisely the
ones we want. There are at most |E| because every augmenting path produces at least one edge
whose flow is equal to its capacity, which we set to be the actual flow for the edge in a maximum
flow, and our modification prevents us from ever destroying this progress.
Problem 26 5
a. Since the capacity of a cut is the sum of the capacity of the edges going from a vertex on one side
to a vertex on the other, it is less than or equal to the sum of the capacities of all of the edges.
Since each of the edges has a capacity that is ≤ C, if we were to replace the capacity of each
edge with C, we would only be potentially increasing the sum of the capacities of all the edges.
After so changing the capacities of the edges, the sum of the capacities of all the edges is equal to
C|E|, potentially an overestimate of the original capacity of any cut, and so of the minimum cut.

The Characteristics Of Grammar And Grammar In The Arabic...
PHONOLOGY AND SYLLABLE
The syllable and grammar for the second era are subject to be studied in commensuration with the
phonology of the Arabic language in a multi linguistic scenario of community. This is due to the
fact that most of the communications at the regional level are oral by nature. Thus, the features of
grammar and syllable cannot be ignored. It has been identified by Kahn (1976) that a mere
hypothetical word atkin is not used and identified in English but without a syllable. The
arrangements of the letters neither assumed later and former use of letters. But, there is a central
place exists in few words; such as, Caltex . Because of this, such types of words are not found
easily in the English literature because of the placement and arrangements of the letters in the word.
The next matter of consideration is the segmental phonology rules; assimilation, length,
neutralization, affrication, use of consonant and vowels. These rules are considered in alignment
with the syllables of the word. A Syllable can use the segmental phonology rules; thus, the element
of pharyngealization is observed rather than the use of other rules and practices. Moreover, the
elements of rules are determined through the use of various functions; hence, there is obstruent
exist in English which are the factors talk about the placement of the letter or the word. Lastly, the
element of oral use and breaks of words is assumed as the innate centrifugal phenomenon of Arabic
language in

Michael Grant s Lies Essay
Have you ever thought that things could never get worse? That this is going to be the worse part
of your life and everything is going to be wonderful? More often than not this is never true, and
in this instance in the book Lies by Michael Grant these kid s lives are changing for the worst. It
has been seven months now since all of the adults and teenagers at least the age of fifteen vanished
out of nowhere like water in the desert (в є Simile). Additionally, there is a gigantic dome that is
enclosing Perdido Beach and Coates Academy and no one can get out. To make things even
more interesting, there is no connection from the outside world and for some reason kids are
developing powers and people are coming back from the dead. Also, there is a dearth of food and
everyone is starving. Presently, there is a vast fire that is burning the town of Perdido Beach and

This book interests me because it has a lot of action. Shoot him! Shoot him! three shotguns in
rapid succession. BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! Sam fired back. Pencils of blistering green light

of Perdido Beach was on fire and Sam was fighting them by using his powers against the H.C
(Human Crew) and the leader Zil. This book is also interest s me because Michael Grant (the
author of the book) shows the perspectives of kids my age and their reaction to certain situations.
An example is when Sam Temple meets once again his adversary. Hey there Sammy. Long time,
huh? No, Sam gasped. Oh, yes, the voice snarled. The voice Sam knew. The voice he dreaded

Analysis of Mental Health in Canada
Close to six million Canadians live with mental illness; let alone the thousands that are undiagnosed.
Mental illness has made big headlines in the news in the recent years. The people suffering from
mental illness have been faced with discrimination a caused by a stigma towards them. Mental
illness can be caused by many different factors whether they are psychological or environmental.
Although only twenty percent of Canadians personally experience mental illness in their lifetime, it
affects everyone in their lives. Many of the people suffering from mental illness live their lives in
silence because of the stigma attached to the illness. They would rather nobody know about their
condition than face the stigma and discrimination of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This caused them to treat them poorly. They would try to hide them from the rest of the world
in fear of being publicly ridiculed and put to shame. They would hide them in the cellars, lock
them in rooms, hand them off to servants, or abandon them on the streets. Many religions and
groups of people believe that people suffering from mental illness were thought to have bad luck.
Historically in Greece, a mentally ill [family] member implies a hereditary, disabling condition in
the bloodline and threatens [the family s] identity as an honourable unit, therefore treatment of
the mentally ill in these cultures meant a life of hidden confinement or abandonment by one s
family (Blue 305). (qtd. in Foerschner, 2010). This stigma attached to mental illness is still
present today in society Mental illness indirectly affects everybody. Everybody will have at least
one person in their life that is suffering from mental illness; whether it is a family member, a
friend, or a colleague. One on every five Canadians under sixty five will suffer from a mental
illness at some point in their lifetime (Ontario.cmha.ca, 2014). These illnesses usually develop in
adolescence and young adulthood usually at a time where they are creating valuable relationships
and making huge decisions that impact our whole lives. Mental illnesses are categorized into the
following categories; anxiety disorders, concurrent disorders and dual diagnosis, dementia, eating
disorders, mood disorders,

A Large Scale Version Of A Small Zip Lock Bag
A microcosm is basically a smaller scale version of a greater population, or a miniature. At the
beginning of this semester, we began the construction of our own miniature worlds within the
confinements of a small zip lock bag. We observed the changes and growth of life inside these bags
over the span of a few weeks. The reason for setting up these projects for weeks at a time, was to
get a better range of how things change and grow over time, sort of like a smaller scale of how it
would really be if grown outside the bag.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The materials that were used in this microcosm project consisted
of soil, a handful if pro mix potting soil, a variety of seeds and seedlings, a small square of leather,
worms, H2O and CO2. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The leather was added in order to begin the growth of moss in our microcosm. Once all of this
was set up, we needed to add the living organisms, the worms. Being the first day, we only added
2 worms, one earthworm and 1 red worm. As soon as the set up was finished, we moved our
microcosms to the back, to which they were kept at a standard temperature of 70.5В°F, and at a
humidity of 53%. It received natural lighting as well as light from 25watt incandescent light bulbs.
Week 1: By the second week, there wasn t much preparation left, simply added 2 more worms, and
added a bit more water.
Week 2: This was the last time more worms were added to the experiment, totaling a good 6
worms, 3 of each red worm, and 3 earthworms. Added H2O.
Week 3: No new forms of life were added, but the abiotic factors did end up changing, which
would result in the microcosm changes being a bit different. The temperature was now changed to
about 69 В° F, and the humidity went from 53% to 54.5%. The other factors such as light,
remained constant. Added a bit of H2O in order to keep the microcosm moist for the worms to
thrive and plants to grow.
RESULTS:
Week 1: After simply one week, there was tremendous amount of growth in the microcosm. It was
already full of small plant life. There were plenty of small sprouts from all the big seeds and small
seedlings. For the garden bean, it grew to become approximately 150mm tall. The little peas

Poem Roosters
Elizabeth Bishop s childhood was not the typical mom and dad experience. Her father died
when she was 8 months old and her mother, when she was five, was checked in at an insane
asylum. She stayed in the asylum until she died. Most of her poems was about her childhood.
Her childhood played in a factor for not having a religious connection of some sort. As I was
reading her poem, Roosters , she refers to the roosters in comparison with a religious event, the
denial of St. Peter. Although she had no recorded religious background, I believe the story of Peter
s denial of knowing Jesus. The poem Roosters , is a comparison with her life as well as is with the
last hours leading to Jesus death, regarding St. Peter, his disciple. How this poem relates to her
life is quite simple. As a child she was forced move to different homes, all within family
relations. She had to have the feeling that her family denied her when things got hard and they
acted as if they didn t know her and shipped her off. This experience made it easy for her to write
this poem. The first stanza of Roosters , At four o clock in the gun metal blue dark we hear the
first crow of the first cock (Bishop1 3) , it is the very moment that Peter denies ever knowing Jesus.
When we look at the context that the Bible talks, Jesus told Peter, this very night, before the
rooster crows, you will disown me three times. (Matthew 26: 34) . When looking about any
piece of work, you must pay attention to this words that are being saying. Bishop says we... in the
first stanza. Who is this we that she speaks of? Peter and Jesus are the we in this context. The
Bible also states, ... the rooster crowed. The Lord (Jesus) turned and looked straight at Peter. (Luke
22:61). They were the only ones that the Bible mentions that had a connection to the crow. Going
further down the poem she talks about the atmosphere and is setting up the scene for Jesus to be
prepared for his crucifixion. She insinuates that it is still dawn as she states, blue blur , and she
sets the scene by saying there are echoes in the distance after the crow, cries in the crowd begin to
take upheaval. Bishop understood the Biblical text as she uses her words to show how chaotic the

In the poem, Since there s no help author Michael Drayton portrays the ending of a romantic
relationship. Yet, in the poem Drayton presents the ending of the relationship using a first person
speaker in the first half and a third person speaker in the last half to describe the ending of the
relationship. Drayton s meaning of the ending of loveand passion in a relationship is conveyed as
using differences in tone, diction, and rhythm between the poem s opening and closing. On key
aspect presented by the speaker in the poem is the differences of tone in the first and second
halves of the poem. In the beginning of the poem, the speaker is in first person speaking to the
person with whom the relationship is ending. The tone is one of gladness

The Causes And Effects Of Job Stress On The Careers Of A...
As people are increasingly joining professional careers, more researchers are interested to
uncover how some of these careers are impacting individuals. Stress is something that is
experienced by almost everyone at one point. Nonetheless, when stress is occurring constantly
and extensively, it negatively impacts an individual in all aspects of their life. Hence, many
researchers want to figure out the causes and effects of job stress in particular on people.
Considering the nature of the work involved, it is no surprise that one career that is commonly
associated with stress is that of a lawyer. While there are a large variety of factors that may come
into play for causing job stress, there are a few that are more prominent than others. Job stress
among lawyers is often further impacted by and dependent on the genderof the lawyer, his or her
level of commitment, and the occurrence of any conflict within their family.
First and foremost, job stress among lawyers is often further impacted by and dependent on the
gender of the lawyer. A study done by Young and Wallace (2009), aimed to determine if and how
gender impacts a lawyer s salary and productivity levels while also taking into account their family
responsibilities (p. 305). In order to obtain this information, a survey was administered to lawyers
across Alberta. The study looked at the salary and productivity levels of 670 participants (Young
Wallace, 2009, p. 310). The researchers had initially hypothesized that

Argumentative Essay On The Internet
As technology begins to advance every day it starts to have a large impact on us humans, not
only on just our lifestyle but also the way we prefer to receive information. In the novel The
Shallows, by Nicholas Carr, he proclaims a biased argument about the internet consequently how
it is changing our ability to think logically because we are choosing the easier route to gain
knowledge. Additionally, argues that due to Google we lack our critical thinking skills causing
less knowledge to be created. The Internet is designed to connect people on a personal and
commercial level, on the other hand, Carr rejects that idea, moreover views it as making us
individuals more shallow by using the Internet. Despite the benefits the internet has, it is degrading
us and we don t even know it. The internet is constantly changing the way our brainworks.
Additional use of the internet causes our brains to decrease the attention span we have. We were all
born with a blank slate of minds with a basic brain structure, though our synaptic (nerve cells)
connect accordingly by experience. Cells that fire together wire together. (Carr 27). If animals learn
through repetition, us humans might as well. The consistent usage of the internet to receive
information quickly makes the human brainhave a shorter attention span. Due to neuroplasticity, we
are utilized to receiving information so quickly, when we are given something like a book, it
makes it harder for us to understand the text since we

Heroes are a necessity for every story, whether it is a strong man, women or even a small child.
Heroes allow readers to further connect to a story while giving them a role model to look up to.
Hemingway was known for having men as his CODE HERO he first created this strategy in the
1920 s by making characters that readers could relate to. In A Farewell to Arms Ernest Hemingway
depicts his main characterLieutenant Frederic Henry as this story s heroor manly man, a man of
action rather than philosophical while also being an individualist who falls madly in love with a

Frederic that need the attention it was her who was slowly dying. This is another example of
what was previous example of men being superior to women. When the baby arrives readers
soon find that it was stillborn, but surprisingly he isn t fazed by this but is more worried to see if
Catherine is well. When finding out Catherine has hemorrhaged, he is forced to face the reality
that his weakness and love of his life is gone meaning he must go back to his mundane life
before her. Death is the ultimate end in the journey of a Code hero but in Henry s case he faced
death almost unaffected, facing death bravely makes a code hero a man. The rain after Frederic

School Dress Codes
Its 2017 and dress codes are outrageous and they make it hard on parents to shop for their
daughters when school comes around. As parents try to make it okay and meet the requirement
for the school s dress code, the school still finds ways to punish and embarrass girls for their
clothing. Not only is it making them miss educational and instructional time but it hurts their
ultimate performance. (Sorto) School dress codes have a big impact on what girls wear and buy.
They also prevent freedom of expression and can affect them in bad ways. Schools should change
their dress codebecause dress codes body shame girls, sexualize girls, and projects a contradictory
standard.

A contradictory standard is a set of two rules which like the definition states the dress code has a
set of two rules; one that applies to girls and one that applies to boys. This allows boys to go to
school in tank tops and shorts but if a girl would do that it would be breaking the dress code. In
schools nowadays, the school doesn t see it that way, they see it as what is a distraction and what
is not. School dress codes have unknowingly set up double standards, creating a separation in the
application of the punishment for [violating] the dress code. She explained how boys whose trousers
sag are simply told to pull your pants up without further repercussion while girls are sent to the
office and forced to call their parents to bring them a change of clothes. (Alvarez). If a boy were
to sag their pants, they would asked to pull them up, now if a girl did something similar they
would be called up to the office and asked to call home for an extra pair of clothes or they would be
sent home. See the contradictory standard here? However, I am not arguing that schools shouldn
t have dress codes. I absolutely believe that they should. However, if a dress code is going to take
place, it should not be sexist. For example, if a girl isn t allowed to wear a spaghetti strap, then a
boy shouldn t be able to wear a tank top

Analysis of Various International Environmental Conflicts...
Throughout the world, conflicts over environmental issues abound. As technology progresses and
our world continues to become more interconnected, an understanding of the worldГўs
environmental crises is important and necessary for the well being of both humankind and the
environment. This paper addresses and comments on the issues presented in the following books:
Ecology of an African Rain Forest by Thomas T. Struhsaker, Green Guerillas edited by Helen
Collinson, NIMBY Politics in Japan by S.Hayden Lesbirel, Where EnvironmentalConcerns and
Security Strategies Meet by James A. Winnefeld and Mary E. Morris, and Innovations in

As the authors point out:
The national security analyst focuses more on the mid and short term, and, looking around, sees
few conflicts in todayГўs world that are the result of environmental damage. The environmental
analyst takes a longer view and asserts that todayГўs environmental damage nearly guarantees
future conflict. The two communities are starting to come closer together because the accelerated
pace of environmental damage has moved the security fallout from that damage from the long term
to the mid and short term (Winnefeld 1994, p.1).
In regards to the Middle East, it appears that much of the long standing conflict in the region is
linked both directly and indirectly to water supplies. Since water is a vital part of life, it would
make sense that this is a leading reason that political conflicts in the Middle East are old and
seemingly intractable. The debate over water stems from two main sources, the Euphrates and
Tigris Rivers, with all nations in the watershed equally involved in the conflicts regarding the
management of these rivers (Winnefeld 1994). Contributing factors in the water related conflicts
include issues regarding water quality, location of water sources, and location of water demand. In

  • 2. Norse Mythology Research Paper What does every religion and culture around the world have in common? They all have some form of divinity or gods. For the Scandinavian/ Germanic people or as they were sometimes called the Vikings their particular brand of mythology is called Norse Mythology. Today almost everyone has either seen or heard of the Thor movies. Although those are great movies they do not even touch the surface of how deep and intricate Norse mythologytruly is. This entire culture of myth was spread through words and stories of the Scandinavian Vikings to explain what and why things happened in their world. This mythology spanned through many other cultures. Our days of the week are even from the Scandinavian or Norse gods such as Thursday being Thor s day .... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The giants hail from Jotunheim, the fire giants from Muspelheim, the elves from Alfheim, dwarves reside in Svartalfheim, the Midgard serpent resides in Midgard, and Hel herself resides in Helheim (McCoy). The most notable monsters of mythology happen to be Loki s own children. Fenrir is depicted as a giant wolf. He was raised by the gods in order to keep him under control. The Midgard serpent is depicted as a giant snake wrapped around the Earth with its tail in its mouth. Hel is a giantess and goddess and rules over Helheim, the realm of the dead (Norse Mythology for Smart People). These three bring about Ragnarok. Ragnarok itself is known as the Doom of the Gods (McCoy). The end starts with the death of Baldr by Loki. After this the realms fall into chaos. Fenrir and Loki break free of their chains and giants descend on Asgard. Thor faces a tragic end going up against Jormungand, the Midgard serpent, each slaying the other. Fenrir goes on to swallow and destroy everything in his path before Odin stepped in to stop him. Odin himself though he fought valiantly was killed by Fenrir. Fenrir was then destroyed by a lesser known son of Odin s Vidar. After the death of Odin the end came and silence of Ginnunggagap or the anti cosmic void was once again ... • 3. Analyzing Networked Control Systems For Network Induced... Abstract Networked Control Systems (NCS) are the control systems in which the control loop is connected through a communication channel. There has been an increased attention to the use of Network Control System (NCS) in recent years because of their cost effective and flexible applications. But one of the major issues that need to be studied and solved in NCS is the delay of the data transmission which occurs throughout the communication network in the system and thus degrades the control systemperformance and also causes the system instability. This paper basically presents an analysis of network delay in NCS. In this paper, we have designed a model of delay control system for network induced delay using the simulation model of network control system delay and thus analysed the effect of network delay on the performance of the control system. The TrueTime toolbox of Matlab/Simulink is used for simulating the NCS model. Keywords networked control system, network delay, control performance, truetime, stability I.INTRODUCTION In conventional control systems, control signals are sent over the loop using analog or digital technology whereas in modern control systems, the control loop is closed through a real time communication network by T. C. Yang et al. [1]. The Networked Control Systems (NCSs) are the distributed control systems in which the system components (sensors, actuators and controllers) are connected by communication networks [2]. One ... • 4. Why Is Swan Lake An Importance Of The Ballets Around The... Swan Lake has been an inspiration for choreographers and artists around the world. It is important to recall that: The first full scale multicultural collaboration between an American and a Soviet ballet company took place in Boston on May 3, 1990, when the Boston Ballet staged Swan Lake. Within the production, Soviet danseurs partnered American Ballerinas, and American danseurs partnered Soviet ballerinas. Even the sets, designed by an American artist, were constructed in the Soviet Union (Crawford John, 2015: 44). Countless new productions classical as well as modern have been produced over the last years: for example, Neumeier s Illusions Like Swan Lake, Matthew Bourne s (male) Swan Lake, Mats Ek s (modern) Swan Lake and recently Alexander ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This ranking system has its roots within the history. In the nineteenth century ballets were created to show off the stars and the choreographies were designed to reinforce the stellar status of the principal ballerina and her partner at center stage, encircled by soloists and ringed around by the corps de ballet. Formerly men and women had different titles such as prima ballerina for the principal dancer and premier danseur for the male principal, but nowadays ballet companies adopt a gender neutral classification system. The hierarchy in the ranking has not only consequences for the roles the dancers are casted for, but also the pay rates vary between the grades. Generally, members of the corps de ballet earn between 25% and 50% of what a soloist or a principal earns. The denomination of the different ranks depends from company to company, for example at the Paris Opera Ballet the dancers are graded in ascending order as trainees, quadrilles, coryphГ©es, sujets, premiers danseurs and Г©toiles, meanwhile the Royal Ballet of London similarly grades its dancers from young dancers, artist, first artist, soloist and first soloist to principal. The English National Ballet divides the dancers in even more categories: artists, first artist, junior soloists, soloists, first soloists, character artists, principals, lead principals and guest artists, meanwhile the American Ballet Theatre has only four grades: apprentices, corps de ballet, soloists and ... Essay On In Flanders Fields War essay In war ,many terrible tragedies occur, leaving many people scarred and in grief and who can never forget the nightmare of war. This paper will discuss In, Flanders fields by John Mccrae s,Dulce et Decorum EST by Wilfred Owen and I sing of Olaf glad and big by ee cummings. This paper will be discussing the different points of views that poets have about war and how it shapes our own opinion ,of it because none of us have experienced war firsthand and have only heard about the nightmare from those who have survived and lived to tell us their story. John McCrae s idea of war is that it s like a game or sport .He writes about The torch , be yours to hold high in line 12 .This image is like in the Olympics, where people are carrying the torch in celebration. He feels that by recruiting more people to war and telling them that it s an honor to die for their country, then there will be a bigger chance for victory. when really it s hell and something that can t be forgotten no matter how hard the person tries . While in Wilfred Owen s poem, he talks all about the horrors of war that people have seen and how they can never forget it. • 7. Character Analysis Of Bigger Thomas Bigger Thomas is not an ordinary character that is portrayed in racial poverty at the time. Were used to seeing the same story every day from this time period. Only a few heroic people have stood up but never like as we see here. Bigger Thomas is a representation of all black men of this time: full of fear. There worried for themselves and for their own families. They try making a living but due to their color, they are limited to very few things. The accidental murdering of Mary, finally gave Bigger a purpose in life even though it wasn t a good one. Many times was Bigger given the tension that he is powerless in this world like when Boris mentioned it to him how it s a daily routine for all black men to live with stress. Bigger Thomas is a character that can truly be presented as real life character with his struggles of poverty, racism, and he has to show that he does in fact exist. Native Son is the story of Bigger Thomas and how he goes from an absolute nobody to the most wanted man in the city. Right from the start we can see Bigger s poverty level when he and his brother try catching the rat. That afternoon, Bigger and four of his friends decide to rob an old white man but they are all afraid to do it since he is white and the punishment would be huge for them if they are caught during or after act. Bigger picks a fight with Gus for arriving late, just so he can stay out of it and then leaves toward the Daltonshouse. He gets the chauffeur job and meets ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Ethics Of Living Jim Crow Stylistic Devices In The Ethics of Living Jim Crow by Richard Wright, various stylistic devices and rhetorical strategies are used such as symbolism, and colloquial language. The use of Wright s symbolism of the green growing things establishes how African Americans were disadvantaged in their upcoming. In this, the white boys which lived beyond the tracks were able to hide behind trees, hedges, and the sloping embankments of their lawns. The symbolism of these green things, displays how white people had an upper advantage in society, having luxurious lives to hide behind. Meanwhile, Wright remarked I didn t have any trees or hedges to hide behind displaying how African Americans were not protected, leaving them easily discriminated against and futile against attack. In this, Wright remarks that the green things grew into an overarching symbol of fear. Furthermore, the use of colloquial language by white people displayed how they had the freedom to say what they pleased, whereas Wright had to talk formally to white people using phrases such as Yes, sir , and No, sir, Mr. Pease. Additionally, Wright had to question every word he said, in an attempt to not to offend a white man, describing how To have said: Thank you! would have made the white man think that you thought you were receiving from him a personal service. For such an act I have seen Negroes take a blow in the mouth. Together, these stylistic choices affect the tone and meaning of the work as they display the unjust ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Cheating in American Schools Cheating in American Schools A National Disgrace Cheating by students in American schools has become a serious and growing problem. A 2005 poll of 12,000 college graduates in the contiguous United States with a 62% response rate showed the following: 45% of all students cheated on an examination that counted toward 10 20% of their grade and 51% cheated on an exam that counted toward 33 50% of their final grade. When asked why they cheated, 70% of cheaters stated that they did not fear failing the exams on which they cheated and that cheating for a higher grade was the primary motive. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 83% of college professors queried replied to the poll. 94% of responders regarded cheating on their campus as a serious threat to their college s quality and integrity. Almost all the professors who responded believe that their has been an increase in student academic dishonesty in the last 10 years. Not only do professors fear that their schools risk defamation of reputation as a result of cheating, but also that the rise in cheating will lead to an ignnorant workforce, incapable of meeting the challenges of an increasingly technical and sophisticated society. Electronic supported cheating allows students to falsify, lie and plagarize more successfully than ever before. Most electronic devices used to cheat can be hidden in the palm of a hand or on a student s lap without directing attention from a proctor or teacher. The push by parents to do what it takes to succeed at all costs is one of many influences driving cheaters. Unfortunately, as a result of cheating, American Colleges are producing fewer and fewer individuals capable of functioning in our high tech society. Medical schools are accepting students with lower academic standing and we are trying to fill the intellectual void by bringing foreign students into the U.S. graduate schools. We are now seeing the effects of cheating in are markets and post graduate student profiles. Thee dearth of well educated individuals in the U.S. has disrupted the work ... • 12. Pro Bono Cons Introduction The concept of mandatory pro bono and whether or not lawyers should be required to participate in this public service has been the contentious subject of debate over recent years. Focusing on Mirko Bagaric and Penny Dimopoulos statement: In our view not only do lawyers not have a duty to act for free, but they are misguided in doing so and should, for the long term benefit of the community, cease engaging in pro bono work, this essay will critically analyse the implications of introducing mandatory pro bono into the legal profession by examining both the positive and negative aspects through the issues of altruism, tradition, government funding and the onus on small firms. Arguments for Mandatory Pro Bono The benefits of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mirko Bagaric and Penny Dimopoulos argue that the introduction of mandatory pro bono will only encourage the government to continue to decrease it s funding of legal aid services as the government will further shirk the responsibility onto the legal profession. For example, the current Australian budget has proposed yet another large decrease in government funding for 2017 2018, this includes the quarantining of some of the community legal centre funding. Furthermore, it is not fair of the government to place an expectation on the legal to perform legal services for free when there is no similar altruistic expectation placed on professional from other areas, such as: physiotherapists, chiropractors, doctors and psychologists. All the services provided by these other professions for free or at a discount are usually done so because the costs are then subsidized by the government. The introduction of mandatory pro bono should not be seen as a means for the government to avoid their responsibility to the legal community, instead if it is to be introduce it would need to be followed by the agreement of the government to provide more funding to legal ... • 13. Native American Native Land To be a Native American, one is not just born into the ethnicity, but it is the sacredness of the culture, language, religion, and land that makes a person a true Native American, and without these things, there are no Indigenous people. Developing a culture is human nature, and for Native Americans, their culture revolves around the land, and to take that away is to take away who they are. The land may not physically be a part of Native Americans, but without their sacred land, there is a missing part of them. The building of telescopes on Mt. Graham is one example of how the sacred Native land is being taken over. Just like how a wheel is a part of a chariot, the sacred land is part of a Native American, and without it, Native Americans are not whole. Their culture is seen as inferior to white culture because of the Racial Contract, and is why their land is treated with disrespect. Native Americans sacred lands needs to be treated with respect and protected because without it, they are no longer Native Americans, they are a group of people without a culture to be a part of. The word sacred is defined as: considered to be holy and deserving respect, especially because of a connection with a god; connection with religion; considered too important to be changed (Cambridge Dictionary). She told Arnold how he was not being treated fairly by the Americans and that Britain would be able to offer him more. Arnold agreed with his wife and eventually made plans with Andre to sabotage America. Clinton had Andre set up a meeting with Arnold to retrieve plans of what West Point s set up was. The idea was to gain control of the Hudson River cutting New England off from the rest of the colonies. It is also important in order to plan for progression to know what they have previously covered so I arranged a meeting with the class teacher. Lithium Ion Batteries For Electric Vehicle Batteries Essay Introduction A lithium ion (Li ion) battery is a type of rechargeable battery which uses a lithium ion that moves from a positive electrode (cathode) to a negative electrode (anode) during charging and vice versa during discharge. Lithium ion batteries are less environmentally damaging than batteries containing heavy metals such as cadmium and mercury, but recycling them is still far preferable to incinerating them or sending them to landfill. Lithium ion batteries are made up of one or more generating compartments called cells. Each cell is composed of three components: an anode, a cathode, and a chemical called an electrolyte in between them. Lithium ion batteries are becoming more common in portable electronic devices due to their high energy density, lack of memory effect, and high charge and discharge rate capabilities. Research and development work is ongoing to improve safety and increase capacity, charge/discharge rate, and lifetime. Demand for electric vehicle batteries is currently small, but it is expected to grow very quickly. China, Japan, South Korea, France, and the United States are the major lithium ion battery manufacturers for hybrid and electric vehicle applications. A lot of information from different sources was gathered with the purpose of comparing different Li ion batteries mechanisms, cathode and anode materials, structure and fabrication procedures, and their respective advantages and disadvantages. Consumer income Over the year s South African consumer income has increased which has resulted in an increasing demand of motor vehicles. The demand for inferior goods (i.e. public transport) decreased as more people chose to purchase their own vehicles. Prices of related goods Changes in the price of related goods (substitutes and complements) leads to changes in demand. An increase in the price of Oil as a complement good has caused a decrease in the demand of Motor Vehicles especially since the late 2006 when there has been a steep increase in the oil prices. Advertising and consumer preferences Consumers are becoming more environmentally conscience and this has resulted in a steady demand for eco friendly modes of transport. The peasants could be manipulated by fear, the justice system, and finances. With these methods, the lord could exercise complete control over the commoners of his fief. One technique used by lords to control serfs was efficient use of the justice system. During the middle ages, the lord had political authority in society. Because of this he was able to use the justice system to his advantage, which included the right to try peasants in court for breaking the manor s rules. The lord had the power to punish the troublemaker as he saw fit, with fines or imprisonment. An account that illustrates the lord s power to try and convict the serfs is, From the whole township of Little Ogbourne, except seven, for not coming to wash the lord s sheep, 6s. 8d. . These Cd s were marketed with the promise that playing them would enrich the intellectual and creative development of my child. Behind the popularity of selling products on such an idea is an unfortunate theme: Parenting can be done quickly and with little inconvenience. The reality is that good parenting does not require classical music, but instead time and effort. As children grow from infancy into adolescence the role of parenting broadens. What are the differences between children who have parents that show little affection when compared to those who liberally hug and kiss? Does it matter if some parents are strict while others are lax? Does it make a difference if some parents spank their children while others go on in seemingly endlessly discussions? As my son once said to his older brother, Just say you understand so he ll shut up. Diana Baumrind (1966, 1967, 1978) decided to find out the answers to those questions by determining what effect parenting styles, as interactions between the two dimensions of parental acceptance and control, had on children s social and intellectual competence. To start with, Baumrind identified four distinct parenting styles: neglectful, permissive, authoritarian, and authoritative. Neglectful parenting is a style in which the parent is very uninvolved in the child s life. These parents seem to focus more on their own lives and are not particularly involved with or supportive of their children. They appear to be detached from the child and provide only for their basic physical and emotional needs and not much else. They offer little or no help with homework, provide minimal supervision, and spend little time together. Permissive (or indulgent) parents are responsive and accepting. They make few demands of their children, indulge their children s desires, and use little punishment. They allow their children free expression of impulses and set few ... Make the home the source and the school the sink. If there exist at least two distinct paths from source to sink then the flow will be at least 2 because we could assign f(u,v) = 1 for each of those edges. However, if there is at most one distinct path from source to sink then there must exist a bridge edge (u, v) whose removal would disconnect s from t. Since c(u, v) = 1, the flow into u is at most 1. In other words, if f(u,v) = c(u,v) then there should be no reverse edge appearing in residual network. This will still produce correct output in our case because we never exceed the actual maximum flow through an edge, so it is never advantageous to cancel flow. The augmenting paths chosen in this modified version of Ford Fulkerson are precisely the ones we want. There are at most |E| because every augmenting path produces at least one edge whose flow is equal to its capacity, which we set to be the actual flow for the edge in a maximum flow, and our modification prevents us from ever destroying this progress. Since the capacity of a cut is the sum of the capacity of the edges going from a vertex on one side to a vertex on the other, it is less than or equal to the sum of the capacities of all of the edges. Since each of the edges has a capacity that is ≤ C, if we were to replace the capacity of each edge with C, we would only be potentially increasing the sum of the capacities of all the edges. After so changing the capacities of the edges, the sum of the capacities of all the edges is equal to C|E|, potentially an overestimate of the original capacity of any cut, and so of the minimum cut. b. ... • 46. The Characteristics Of Grammar And Grammar In The Arabic... PHONOLOGY AND SYLLABLE The syllable and grammar for the second era are subject to be studied in commensuration with the phonology of the Arabic language in a multi linguistic scenario of community. This is due to the fact that most of the communications at the regional level are oral by nature. Thus, the features of grammar and syllable cannot be ignored. It has been identified by Kahn (1976) that a mere hypothetical word atkin is not used and identified in English but without a syllable. The arrangements of the letters neither assumed later and former use of letters. But, there is a central place exists in few words; such as, Caltex . Because of this, such types of words are not found easily in the English literature because of the placement and arrangements of the letters in the word. The next matter of consideration is the segmental phonology rules; assimilation, length, neutralization, affrication, use of consonant and vowels. These rules are considered in alignment with the syllables of the word. A Syllable can use the segmental phonology rules; thus, the element of pharyngealization is observed rather than the use of other rules and practices. Moreover, the elements of rules are determined through the use of various functions; hence, there is obstruent exist in English which are the factors talk about the placement of the letter or the word. Her father died when she was 8 months old and her mother, when she was five, was checked in at an insane asylum. She stayed in the asylum until she died. Most of her poems was about her childhood. Her childhood played in a factor for not having a religious connection of some sort. As I was reading her poem, Roosters , she refers to the roosters in comparison with a religious event, the denial of St. Peter. Although she had no recorded religious background, I believe the story of Peter s denial of knowing Jesus. The poem Roosters , is a comparison with her life as well as is with the last hours leading to Jesus death, regarding St. Peter, his disciple. How this poem relates to her life is quite simple. As a child she was forced move to different homes, all within family relations. She had to have the feeling that her family denied her when things got hard and they acted as if they didn t know her and shipped her off. This experience made it easy for her to write this poem. The first stanza of Roosters , At four o clock in the gun metal blue dark we hear the first crow of the first cock (Bishop1 3) , it is the very moment that Peter denies ever knowing Jesus. When we look at the context that the Bible talks, Jesus told Peter, this very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times. (Matthew 26: 34) . When looking about any piece of work, you must pay attention to this words that are being saying. Bishop says we... in the first stanza. Who is this we that she speaks of? Peter and Jesus are the we in this context. The Bible also states, ... the rooster crowed. The Lord (Jesus) turned and looked straight at Peter. (Luke 22:61). They were the only ones that the Bible mentions that had a connection to the crow. Going further down the poem she talks about the atmosphere and is setting up the scene for Jesus to be prepared for his crucifixion. Despite the benefits the internet has, it is degrading us and we don t even know it. The internet is constantly changing the way our brainworks. Additional use of the internet causes our brains to decrease the attention span we have. A contradictory standard is a set of two rules which like the definition states the dress code has a set of two rules; one that applies to girls and one that applies to boys. This allows boys to go to school in tank tops and shorts but if a girl would do that it would be breaking the dress code. In schools nowadays, the school doesn t see it that way, they see it as what is a distraction and what is not. School dress codes have unknowingly set up double standards, creating a separation in the application of the punishment for [violating] the dress code. She explained how boys whose trousers sag are simply told to pull your pants up without further repercussion while girls are sent to the office and forced to call their parents to bring them a change of clothes. (Alvarez). If a boy were to sag their pants, they would asked to pull them up, now if a girl did something similar they would be called up to the office and asked to call home for an extra pair of clothes or they would be sent home. See the contradictory standard here? However, I am not arguing that schools shouldn t have dress codes. I absolutely believe that they should. However, if a dress code is going to take place, it should not be sexist. For example, if a girl isn t allowed to wear a spaghetti strap, then a boy shouldn t be able to wear a tank top ... • 56. Analysis of Various International Environmental Conflicts... Throughout the world, conflicts over environmental issues abound. As technology progresses and our world continues to become more interconnected, an understanding of the worldГўs environmental crises is important and necessary for the well being of both humankind and the environment. This paper addresses and comments on the issues presented in the following books: Ecology of an African Rain Forest by Thomas T. Struhsaker, Green Guerillas edited by Helen Collinson, NIMBY Politics in Japan by S.Hayden Lesbirel, Where EnvironmentalConcerns and Security Strategies Meet by James A. Winnefeld and Mary E. As the authors point out: The national security analyst focuses more on the mid and short term, and, looking around, sees few conflicts in todayГўs world that are the result of environmental damage. The environmental analyst takes a longer view and asserts that todayГўs environmental damage nearly guarantees future conflict. The two communities are starting to come closer together because the accelerated pace of environmental damage has moved the security fallout from that damage from the long term to the mid and short term (Winnefeld 1994, p.1). In regards to the Middle East, it appears that much of the long standing conflict in the region is linked both directly and indirectly to water supplies. Since water is a vital part of life, it would make sense that this is a leading reason that political conflicts in the Middle East are old and seemingly intractable. The debate over water stems from two main sources, the Euphrates and Tigris Rivers, with all nations in the watershed equally involved in the conflicts regarding the management of these rivers (Winnefeld 1994). Contributing factors in the water related conflicts include issues regarding water quality, location of water sources, and location of water demand. In addition to regional ... Medicare Reimbursement Model Pros And Cons In my role with Liberty Mutual, I drove adoption of Medicare reimbursement models through public affairs involvement with multiple state workers compensation committees seeking to update their reimbursement schedules in response to the implementation of ICD 10 coding requirements in October of 2015. With the state workers compensation authorities seeking to adopt CMS reimbursement type models, my involvement was directed at securing the inclusion of specific CMS rules governing correct coding and reimbursement practices including National Correct Coding Initiative Guidelines (NCCI), Medical Unlikely Edits (MUE), along with the Resource Based Relative Value System (RBRVS) for reimbursement rate setting. In addition to advocating for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Compliance auditing is used to evaluate compliance with binding standards (non existent or ambiguous) and the level of compliance with other industry standards, and Forensic auditing which is performed to determine errors with established written standards imposed by the payer as either a condition of participation or payment. In my current role, I have led several compliance based audits proactively and in response to state inquiries and led a team of auditors who performed forensic based audits on 48,000+ medical bills annually totaling $1billion in annual billed charges. The identification of the appropriate binding and persuasive criteria (through criteria analysis) is critical to establishing Risk and Standard analysis. Case law, State and Federal Courts, Commercial carrier contracts (Provider/Subscriber) and incorporated standards (CPT/CMS), Federal Statutory, Medicare Statutes, HHS regulations, CMS interpretive guidance (Internet Only Manuals), local contractor rules (LCD s) are all types of controlling standards. Persuasive standards are used to provide guidance in the absence of a binding statutory standard. In workers compensation jurisdictions with unclear or non existent statutory standards, I developed the persuasive standards of the Commercial Insurance Clinical audit product to ensure persuasive audit criteria was credible, sourced, and applied appropriately with a robust quality ...
