In that osteoporosis is a huge societal problem, causing a large number of fractures in the elderly
population and thus leading to a poor quality of life and worse, it was clear that education of
healthcare professionals was a must. Since the USPSTF guidelines state that all women over age
65 should get dexa scans to screen for osteoporosis and start on appropriate therapy to prevent
these fractures, it soon became clear that in our resident run outpatient clinics we were doing a
very poor job in this area. As such, with two colleagues, we designed an intervention protocol based
on provider education on osteoporosis for all residents, attendings, nurse practitioners and physician
assistants. Succinctly, the intervention increased the rate of dexa scan ordering by 34% and this
trial is now in its second phase.
There have been other equally important turning points to date. In my rotation at Georgetown, I
sought to explore the field of rheumatology at a tertiary level and in doing so, gained experience
in common autoimmune conditions and some rare ones as well all which served to solidify my

The purpose of the first experiment was to test how different solutes moved through the membrane
by the process of Simple Diffusion. Different solutes proved to diffuse not only at a certain amount,
but also through a certain molecular weight. Curious as to why my hypothesis was not supported, I
wondered why certain solutes only diffused through certain membranes. Through research, I
concluded that the reasoning behind my observation is due to the fact that Non polar molecules can

dissolve in the non polar fatty acid chains of the membrane phospholipids, so therefore non polar
molecules have larger permeability constants than polar molecules (www.biology online.org). Also,
lipid soluble molecules can move through the membrane, where as non lipid soluble molecules
cannot pass through the lipid bilayer (www.biology online.org). These results also concluded that at

Darkness is hardly ever seen as a positive entity. Children are taught to fear the dark, that
monsters lie in the absence of light. Darkness is a powerful image that authors use to their

are uncordial behaviors. The crime of driving a vehicle or operating a motorized machine while
under the influence of alcohol is totally against the law of the land, but some people still won t
stop. Is there any gain in drunk driving than loss of lives, loss of driving privileges, and property
vehicles? One third of traffic deaths involve alcohol impaired driving (MADD). Therefore, a
behavior that involves a tiny proportion of drivers is one of the key causes of death on the roads.
This is an indication that retaining the licenses of drivers involved in drunk driving is not enough to
deter drunk driving because some people in this category are still driving even though their
licenses have been suspended or revoked. For this reason, it is necessary to adopt more strict
measures to deal with the problem. In particular, drunk driving can be prevented through the use of
ignition interlock systems and sobriety checkpoints at an individual level while a school based
instructional program can help to prevent the problem at a community level.

One feasible solution to reduce the amount of teenage motor vehicle accidents is to provide a way
for youth to gain life like experience driving with various, unexpected scenarios. One of the two
biggest causes of accidents among adolescents is speeding, which exacerbates swerves and does
not allow for enough reaction time. Teens are more likely than older drivers to speed and allow
shorter headways (the distance from the front of one vehicle to the front of the next) (Singer.)
Creating a simulation machine, much resembling a race car driving video game/chair found in
many arcades, complete with speed limits and road signs, would help to equip young drivers for
the dangers that may arise on real roads. The simulation could be programmed to come up with

Database Environment Intro
The Tampa Art Museum needs to track the artwork, artists, and locations where the art is displayed
or stored within the museum. Currently The Tampa Art Museum is using an inaccurate set of
spreadsheets to keep track of art, artist, and location data within the Museum and it is very
cumbersome for end users. The Project teams Goal is to create a reliable database to streamline
operations at the museum and make inventory accurate and reliable.
Database Environment
The database environment consists of the system hardware, software, people, procedures, and data.

The data in the database will represent the artwork, artists, and locations art is stored within the
museum. The data will be stored into tables created with Microsoft Access.
Problems Constraints
The problems and constraints for the new database will be the gathering of data that needs to be
represented in the new database. At the present time Microsoft Excel spreadsheets are being used
to store data on art, artists, and art locations. These spreadsheets are not always updated and
accurately represented on all present workstations. The data needs to be gathered and documented
before the new database can be created to insure that the new database will be accurate.
Time is another constraint of the new database project. The database needs to be operational
before the beginning of the next fiscal year and within the allotted budget of $20,000. The budget
is allotted for labor only as all the hardware and software has already been obtained for the database.
Database Objectives
The objective of the database is to document what art, artists, and location of the art is contained
within the museum. This will help museum project leaders know exactly what the museum has for
art on hand, and to organize the inventory and prepare for future exhibits.
