Outward Conformity
James Joyce s novel, A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, follows the main character, Stephen
Dedalus, through his childhood in Ireland, focusing on the decisions Stephen makes as a young adult
that will shape his future. Throughout the novel, there is tension created by the battle between outward
conformity to his church and the inward questioning of religion. This can be seen through Stephen
attaining the life he longs for while sacrificing the normalities he has assimilated to while maturing.
This contributes to the meaning of the work as a whole, in that the paths taken in life ultimately lead to
sacrifice. Stephen chooses a different path than that set up for him by his family and the principal
members of his Catholic school leading ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the time he was young, he invented words such as moocow demonstrating his imagination. At
the beginning of Stephen s life, his creativity does not interfere with his religion, unlike later in the
novel. This creativity, however, hinders Stephen from congealing with the boys at his school, he does
not think the same way they do. He is even pushed into a square ditch after being harassed and taunted
by the boys who ask him if he kisses his mother. This is significant because his outward hesitation
reveals Stephen s attempt at conformity, while his inward inquiry of what was the right answer to the
question? (10) causes a division between him and the other students. The tensions between conformity
and questioning sever his connection to his peers. The struggles Stephen faces in the very beginning of
his Catholic school years stem not from his lack of conformity to religion, but lack of harmonizing
with the other students. At this point, Stephen even defends his religion inwardly as well as outwardly.
This can be seen when some of the dinner guests, Casey and Dante, argue over the religious state

The Price Point Of Wine
Executive Summary
The report will analyse and expose the various factors that contribute to determine the price point of
wine factors including the labour cost to grow grapes and produce wine, the size and reputation of the
vineyard and the exclusivity and scarcity of the wine. Studies have shown that the global wine market
is divided into four quality segments or categories known as basic premium, popular premium, super
premium and ultra premium. Input costs for single vineyards have been divided into five categories
known as direct, labour, mechanisation, and maintenance and general costs. Hedonic pricing and
statistical analysis review qualities of wine that induce to price differentiation Studies have shown that

2. Wine categorisation and marketing decisions
As Perrin Lockshin (2001) and Blok (2007) state, input costs must be related to the retail segment
prices or price points that are given to wines. According to studies taken by Ernst Young Consulting in
1999, global wine market is divided into four quality segments or categories (Perrin Locksin, 2001).
These categories are known as basic premium, popular premium, super premium and ultra premium.
When the winemaker acknowledge the categories of their various wines they will know which are
viable to produce in relation the retail price point that has been given.
Studies done in Australia during 2001 by the wine journal industry emerged with a very similar
quality segment system which is divided in four categories as well; Commercial wines, Semi premium
wines, Premium wines and ultra premium wines. Various winemakers have stated that there is only a
hedonic difference between the last two categories (Blok, 2007). Retail distribution channels will
therefore vary between wine categories as the winery management determines which channel to target.
Depending on quality and quantity the winery could select to distribute for wholesalers, retailers,
cellar doors, direct consumers or a combination of these (Heijbroek, 2003; SCSD, 2010).
Marketing, advertising and distribution are considered overhead costs as they are not part of the
production process. Marketing

Budget Assignment
The purpose of this paper is to explore the various stages of the budgeting process and attempt to
evaluate their effectiveness. I will further evaluate the level and validity of detailed assumptions used
to create budget estimates. I will discuss the role of the budget as an analytic tool and explain how the
budget can be used to evaluate organizational performance, eliminate inefficiencies in an organization
s performance, and explain the budget s role in the business control cycle. I will further analyze
control mechanisms that can be put in place to monitor and evaluate the budget, and describe how
budget can be used in the performance accountability and reward process. Finally, I will identify a

During this stage, the decision makers begin to see if they will get the return on investment they
initially anticipated.
Following a period of time, perhaps two or three years after approval, projects are reviewed to see
whether they should be continued. This reevaluation is referred to as a postcompletion audit.
Thorough postcompletion audits are typically performed on selected projects, usually the largest
projects in a given year s budget for the firm or for each division. Postcompletion audits show the
firms management how well the cash flows realized correspond with the cash flows forecasted several
years earlier. (Peterson et al, 2002)
The post completion audit serves to thoroughly analyze the initial decision to allocate resources to a
given project. If the project failed to meet established objectives this phase is often reffered to as a
post mortem analysis. By revisiting the project after an appropriate amount of time has passed,
decision makers can determine a project s success or failure. In the case of failure lessons learned can
be identified to avoid the same outcome in the future.
In creating a budget, decision makers attempt to forecast numbers as accurately as possible. Doing this
requires detailed assumptions regarding future costs and returns on investment. While historical data
can provide insight into future performance, it is by no means a reliable method that should be
expected to provide consistent results.

Legal Aspects Of Dna Testing

Legal Aspects of DNA Testing and the Scientific Expert in Court
DNA testing like many other tools in forensics to identify suspects has been through various
evaluations to uncover its validity. These evaluations are necessary because the results of DNA testing
can help to exclude, include, and can even be used to convict suspects. The weight of DNA testing is
heavy in that can be used to alter a person s life forever, hence, the legal movements for it to be
validated. Some believed that the admissibility of DNA testing into the courts would violate privacy
rights or could alert criminals to the evidence that could be left behind when they commit a crime. The
arguments that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The proper training certificates, proficiency test results, curriculum vitae, employment history are
some of the documents the courts use to qualify someone as a Scientific Expert. Through the
education and experience they receive, a scientific expert should be able to explain and teach both
lawyers and jurors how DNA testing work and how they were able to arrive at their results and
conclusions. Their explanations and teachings may involve the use of presentations, literary
references, and even scenarios that would help to view the advantages of evidence in every aspect
without bias.
One reason for exploring and determining the legal aspects of DNA testing is that there are so many
factors involved. From sample collection to analyzing results, every step in processing must be
handled with the greatest of care. Because DNA testing is now something that is looked for by jurors,
the defense attorneys will go through every process used to make sure that proper procedures were
followed and that there are no bias elements involved. For this reason, DNA testing procedures must
be documented. Notes should be taken before, and during processing. A chain of custody document
should also be used to keep an accurate log of the evidence.
All of the burdens involved in the legal aspects of DNA testing however, does not fall on the Scientific
Expert. The courts must also follow proper procedures to ensure a solid conviction. The proper
channels should be investigated

Essay On Drug Addiction
When a person has a drug addiction, they have a disease that has the ability to affect and hurt the
entire family. Everyone in the addict s immediate family is affected in one way or another. Addiction
impacts a family s finances, physical health as well as psychological wellbeing. It can also cause
tension, miscommunication, and more frequent arguments within a household which in turn creates an
unhealthy environment for everyone involved. The addict can be very unpredictable which can cause
anxiety, emotional pain, stress, and a loss of trust because that person cannot be counted on to follow
through with what they say. Frequently, the people who are addicted don t even realize or believe they
are causing these problems within their families. And unfortunately, they don t view themselves as
sick or suffering from a problem, so they don t reach out for help. When the person finally realizes
they may have a problem, they believe the solution is to escape and run away from their addiction.
In Sonny s Blues, Sonny tells his brother I couldn t tell you when Mama died but the reason I wanted
to leave Harlem so bad was to get away from drugs. And then, when I ran away, that s what I was
running from really. (218) At this point, Sonny is telling his brother he was willing to leave his family
behind to run away from his addiction. But it also shows how misguided he was, or rather all drug
addicts, to think he could just run away from the drugs. Because in the end, he ends

The Between Light And Dark Skin Complexion
There has been a hidden conflict of prejudice that occurs within a race that has recently became
common topic of everyday conversation. In 1982, Alice Walker, a well known author gave it a name;
colorism. Walker defined colorism in In search of Our Mother s Gardens as prejudicial or preferential
treatment of same race people based solely on their color . Colorism has been a significant factor in
the creation of self hatred between people of light and dark hue. Within this society, a dominant
ideology has been created which in turn causes the parts of the population with non dominant features
and characteristics to be made to feel inferior. One of the races is the African American race. The color
in between light and dark skin complexion has created a division in the black community in America,
and though blacks have come a long way since slavery, they have yet to come to unification amongst
one another when placed in the situation of skin differentiation.
Colorism in the African American race dates back to the American slavery era. Slavery was practiced
throughout the American colonies in the 17th and 18th centuries, and the African American slaves
helped build the economic foundations of the new nation. Africans were stripped from their homeland
by countries such as England, Spain and Portugal to work in the New World on plantations. The slaves
were treated like animals being sold and traded among the slave owners. The Virginia General
Assembly declared, in 1705, that

Everybody today has questions about their faith, and every one of them merits a truthful response. If
Christians take the time to accurately think about what they believe and why, they will be ready to
give people the responses needed to honestly seek and find God.
This book shows how to respond to the most frequent objections to Christianity today: Respond
theologically, reasonably, and practically. Recognize the reason behind the questions. Understand why
people are asking the questions to begin with. Discover what subjects are inspiring their souls and
motivating them to seek responses.

Love From First Sight Essay
Love from First Sight
Is there anyone who did not have Love in his life? Love is one the most powerful words that we could
hear and it is an important element in our life. It is the first feeling that you have been treated by since
you were born and opened your eyes. Could you count how many love words that you heard in your
life? I do not believe you can because of how many times it has been said to you by your parents or
relatives. The first people who love in your life are your parents. They loved you before you were born
and they had all that much of love since they loved each other and decided to have a son or daughter. I
lived in a society that did not believe in love before marriage. Even the marriages had to be in the
traditional way. Our society believes that love only comes after marriage which is something I
strongly disagree with. I believe that marriage has to be after a relationship in which both side feel that
they have found the right person. I dreamed many times to be in love with a woman that can
understand me more than myself and knew how I felt. I do not want to destroy myself because of the
criticisms of our society. All the challenges by society made me think and ask myself if there is
anyone that had the same feelings that I had? Was there anyone who believed in love from first sight
in our society? Was it real or was just something of our imagination? I believe in love from first sight
now more than ever. It is real and exists and it happens

The Government And Specific Interest Groups Create Public...
In the United States, the government and specific interest groups create public policies to solve
internal problems and protect their citizens. Public policies can include any action, plan, or rule, which
relates to issues of domestic national importance. Once a certain issue becomes a concern for a
significant amount of people, it becomes a component of the national agenda, which is what the public
wants the government to acknowledge. Many of these problems are addressed because they negatively
affect a significant amount of people (Sparknotes: How Policy Gets Made). For the past few years,
one of the major issues in the United States is illegal immigration. Unlike today, a person immigrating
illegally was not a major issue years ago. Today unfortunately, there are so many illegal immigrants
from all over the world that it has become an issue no one can completely control.
It was recorded in 2012 that approximately 40.8 million illegal immigrants live in the United States,
which makes up thirteen percent of the country. Data on the nativity of the U.S. population were first

Essay The Life and Artistic Impact of Pablo Picasso
Pablo Picasso was born in the early 1880s into a family with artistic roots. From this, he was able to
draw much inspiration and opportunities to study in a well reputed art schools, which were located in
Barcelona and Madrid. At the beginning, he did not have a definite direction in relation to his style;
hence, experimented on a lot of techniques and forms. He joined a number of other young artists,
authors and architects that took the direction of contemporary art in their work. The formative years of
his career ended in 1901 (Fandel, Picasso, 2006). He continued depicting issues in the society but

In 1899, Pablo dropped his scholarly studies and joined a group of young artists. The group brought
together a number of writers and artists well known as modernistes (Klein, 2010). Their art
assimilated modern trends in art like symbolism. It also evoked the mood and atmosphere rather than
the traditional literal description. With regard to poster design, graphic arts and illustration, their art
followed the art nouveau from French, which was characterized by artificial colors, twisting contour
lines and simplified shapes (Fandel, Picasso, 2006). By the early 1900, Pablo and his colleagues art
had moved further to place emphasis on social causes and political anarchy. For instance, Pablo s
work showed sympathy for the poor in urban areas like Barcelona and Paris. The artist had traveled to
Paris for a number of times in the 1900 before he finally decided to permanently settle four years later
(Art in Action, n.d). Most of his fellow young artists also moved to the same capital where their works
were displayed in salons and galleries. Pablo s personal style was a combination of several techniques
and styles that he had previously drawn influences from. For instance, it introduced bright and pure
colors with one of the major subjects being scenes of nightlife in Paris and an image of Manach Pere,

fully supports 1LT JRB s letter, dated 8 April 2011, seeking military awards for the remaining 13
Soldiers (including himself) of his original 35 man platoon who were left under his command after
8 months of combat service in Vietnam. As the commanding officer of C Company, during 1967, 1LT
JRB served under his command as platoon leader. Their unit fought in some of the worst terrain
imaginable and they were involved in some of the heaviest fighting that ever occurred in the Mekong
Delta. Their mission primarily consisted of searching rice paddies, swamps and jungles south of
Saigon with the express purpose of eliminating the Viet Cong and allowing the Delta s agriculture
commerce to thrive once again. By all accounts, that mission was ultimately accomplished. A great
deal of 1967 was served with the U.S. Navy living aboard their barracks ships and going on patrols
from their landing craft when they barracked at Dong Tam deep in the Mekong Delta and dozens of
their patrols were launched via Huey Helicopters. 1LT JRB also mentioned that the officers were
readily awarded medals and that the enlisted men s accomplishments weren t always recognized. By
the time of 1LT JRB s departure in September 1967, the company had experienced numerous
casualties and much attention was focused on reorganizing the unit with new Soldiers and officers.

History and Development of Internet Privacy
What is the perception of privacy and anonymity online relies greatly on understanding the history and
development of the issue. From 1967, when the Internet was born, until the mid 1990s, privacy was a
non issue. There was no advertising, no security measures apart from log ins, no spam and, until 1989,

Get Rid Of A Bug Research Paper
Since aphids do not have much of a shell or armor to protect them, you can get rid of or slow this pest
down in some natural ways.
1. Squish them. This is a very time consuming method of getting rid of these insects. If you decide to
go this route, be sure to wear rubber gloves, or the juice from the bug may irritate your skin.
2. Hit the bugs with the hose. Spraying your plants with water will dislodge the critters and they will
not return to the same plant. There are hose attachments, like the bug blaster, that you can buy that is
used for this specific purpose.
3. Get rid of colonies. Colonies of aphids can be snipped off. If you find aphids in groups or colonies,
snip off the part of the plant that contain the colonies and kill the bugs. This will not get rid of all the
bugs, will it will help to lessen the additional breeding. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Use only slow release fertilizers. These insects love overly fertilized trees and plants, thus, a slow
release type of fertilizer on your plants will help keep aphids at bay. In addition, it is wise to put a
covering over your plants until they are large enough to withstand the aphids and other insects.
5. Get rid of ants. Ants will keep aphids alive, because aphids secrete honeydew or sugary sap, which
benefits the ant. The mutualistic relationship between ants and aphids is so strong that you may see
ants carrying aphids to other less populated plants. If you see ants running up and down the shoots of
your plants it s time to check to see if you have aphids in your garden. Not only will you need to get
rid of the aphids but also the ants.

plants will attract insects that will prey on aphids. Their natural predators include ladybugs, parasitic

Disparate Faith Traditions
The various differences of doctrine and dogma between faith traditions are often a stumbling block for
non believers, causing them to wonder how it can be said that any one religion has is correct if there
are such a plethora of them. This essay has hopefully alleviated that stumbling block to some degree,
although no written work will ever have the capacity to remove it entirely. It has been shown that
despite the immensely different beliefs that are held by the Buddhist and Catholic traditions, there is a
surprisingly large amount of common ground in the realm of practice. While Catholics believe in a
supremely good, powerful, and knowledgeable God, Buddhists have varying beliefs about divinity.
While Buddhists firmly assert that there is no real, inner self within each individual, Catholics believe

This essay is far from exhaustive in the realm of shared practices between the faiths. If this
inexplicable agreement is not enough to reassure those who are experiencing doubt that there must be
some underlying truth that has led these disparate faith traditions to such similar conclusions about
practice, then there is nothing that will reassure such doubt. In addition to those doubting that there
can be any discernable or trustworthy truth found in religions, this notable set of points of agreement
should serve to reassure the adherents of both faith traditions. Just as in common speech it is
reassuring to hear that someone agrees with you after they have put significant thought into the topic
at hand, it should be reassuring to Catholics and Buddhists to know that each faith tradition supports at
least some considerable number of the other tradition s

Electric Power, Motors and Generators Surround Us Every Day
Introduction
Our world is powered by electricity; it surrounds us in every turn and every corner, powering our
streetlights, our TVs, our hospitals, our homes, and our communities. Electricity is a form of energy
that results from charged particles. There are many energy sources that can be converted into
electricity, and that s why it is suited for powering our society. We can generate electricity from
burning fuels, energy of falling water, solar energy, and basically anything that has energy. Electricity
is also easy to distribute, using transmission lines connecting the energy power station to homes,
schools and so on. Atoms consist of electric charge, so electric charge is everywhere and the electric
charge has an electric field. An electric field can only be created by a positive charge and destroyed by
a negative charge(Brightstorm, 2010). According to Bob emery, owner of senior physics website, to
generate electric power it requires motion between a magnetic field and a conductor. Attraction of a
magnet is limited to certain boundaries this is called the magnetic field of a magnet (Makemegenius,
2013).
An electric current in a magnetic field will experience a force, (HyperPhysics, 2014) due to the
interaction between the charged particles in the electric current and the magnet, this force is called the
motor effect. To find the direction of magnetic field you use the right hand rule, pointing the thumb in
the direction of the current and curling your fingers in

Competition Is The Cornerstone Of Capitalism
Competition is the cornerstone of capitalism. It creates rivalry among businesses to produce quality
goods and services at competitive prices. This gives consumers a better sense of variety when making
purchases. Competition in its purest form creates small buyers and sellers none of which are too large
to negatively affect the market as a whole. Competitive markets can be dated back to ancient times
when merchants competed in foreign trade. In the 19th century economists considered competition as
a natural phenomenon in which growth of an operation was fueled by supply and demand in a free
market economy. They also believed that supply and demand worked better in a laissez faire type
environment. This was possible through freedom to trade, transparent knowledge of market
conditions, no government restrictions on trade, and access to buyers and sellers. These conditions
prevented any buyer or seller to significantly affect the market price of a single commodity. After the
mid 1800 s, limitations to compete became evident during the industrial revolution. Corporations
achieved manufacturing capabilities that would surpass their competitors and would allow them to fix
prices and squeeze out their rivals. Eventually some businesses became so large that they controlled
enough market share to deceptively manipulate prices in their industry. This activity created an
atmosphere for President Theodore Roosevelt to launch his famous trust busting campaigns. The era

Spotting Scope Essay
Spotting scopes are a good way to view objects much closer than with a regular binocular. Spotting
scopes are used for the same purpose as regular binoculars but they just provide more magnification.
If you are attempting buying a spotting scope I have made a simple guide that would help you find out
the right scope for the purpose you need. You can start buying the right binocular through finding out
the right specifications which can be making the spotting scope waterproof or even fog proof and
ensuring it has the quality you need such as giving you eye relief and having extended warranty. There
are many ways you can attempt buying a spotting scope. You can begin by looking at the price range
then looking at the features of the spotting scopes. Spotting scopes are a good way for people to watch
stars in their comfort of their houses or for field scientists to look at constellations. A good way to
attempt purchasing the spotting scope is through dividing it according to the primary purpose whether
it is bird watching, astronomy, hunting, marine , etc. Once the purpose has been chosen you can then
compare the different brands such as Barska, Bushnell, Celeston and other good brands. The step after
would be finding out whether you would want to use an angled or straight spotting scope. Once you
have selected the brand you can delve upon finding the right magnification power which can usually
be measured in terms of two numbers. The first number specifies the power of the lens and the second
specifies the diameter. The next step would be to consider the weight of ... Show more content on

The World Can Benefit From Water Privatization
The concept of race outlives slavery and limits emancipation through the manifested ideals of white
supremacy and white privilege. The criminal justice system sets back colored communities by
arranging political boundaries and looking back on the precedent set by the emancipation
proclamation. With the ideologies shared within the Doctrine of Discovery, the Tenets of the Eugenics
Movement, and Neoliberal Capitalism, some multinational companies attempt to privatize water.
While water has remained an unpriced commodity for most of the world, consumption and scarcity
have raised some questions on whether the world can benefit from water privatization.

They share ideology that the Caucasian race is superior and actions should be taken to eliminate or
reduce their existence. There is a Eugenic standpoint present in the privatization of water due to the
views taken against the community whose water is at risk. Those standing to privatize water are
selectively choosing impoverished areas in order to generate a profit and dehumanize the area. They
carefully select the area, their target and how they approach the situation with the most beneficial
outcome. In Walter Rodney s essay, How Europe Underdeveloped , he discusses how Europe
underdeveloped Africa and those repercussions. Africa s circumstances in the early 1900 s are similar
to the water privatization movement. Rodney states, The combination of being oppressed, being
exploited, and being disregarded is best illustrated by the pattern of the economic infrastructure of
African colonies notably, their roads and railways (110). Similarly, countries under scrutiny for
privatization of water are under the same pressure of oppression, exploitation and disregard, however
for their unsteady economic state and water.

Why Is Shakespeare Relevant Today
Shakespeare is arguably the greatest playwriter that has lived and although he died more than four
hundred years ago he is able to live on through his plays and poems that continue to be performed
today. Shakespeare has a universal reach with his plays and works intended for any audience that are
entertaining but also include important lessons. There are arguments that his relevancy is no longer,
but perhaps with evidence provided people will be able to see his works are more relevant now than
ever. Without further study and only taking a Shakespearian play for face value there are already
characteristics that make his works so timeless. The setting, stories, and characters all seem familiar
when they are watched and sometimes the characters seem to reflect one s self. The story of Romeo
and Juliet, for example, is one of love and passion for two star crossed lovers who desire nothing more
than to be together. For some this may be an over romanticised fantasy, but others ... Show more

More than that is the language he uses as well as the words and phrases he created that are still being
used today. Studying Shakespearian works is not only about analyzing story elements or archetypal
patterns but also learning where language that is being used comes from. A history class teaches
students how people got to Canada and what historical events have affected the way life is today. In a
very similar way the study of Shakespeare is a history lesson on literature and vocabulary. Rather than
teaching how Canadian culture was developed it is teaching how the English language was further
developed. For some students there might be a feeling of disheartenment or hot bloodedness when
they arrive at the realization that these eventful plays must continue being studied but, in order to
understand the language they use that Shakespeare created they must look at how it is used and where
these terms came

Similarities Between Scarface And Scarface
Introduction
How are the two movies different from each other? Is it the era, the theme of or its execution? In
retrospective, both will surely have difference, especially since the two are created with different aims.
If one is to analyze the films, one will find a grey area between its differences, wherein differences are
both superficial and minor at best.
Scarface is a crime drama film that is famously known for being one of the most violent and profanes
films during its time of release. Focusing on the rise of Tony Montana (Al Pacino) on the criminal
ladder and becoming more psychotic as his career as the leader of his drug empire progresses, leading
to his eventual downfall. Directed by Brian de Palma, written by Oliver Stone and with performance
of the cast with the lead Al Pacino, Scarface became a cult classic among the ... Show more content on

Both films are distinct in its execution. The Godfather s portrayal is a more subdued one, Brando s
speeches and philosophizing gives a more intellectual approach. Life in the mafia is hard, but is not
fully shown. It is layered behind the walls of character development and dialogue, while they are
eating together for dinner and sharing insults about their mothers, the next scene will show the group
getting ready for a hit. Politically, The Godfather has no strong indication of getting associated with
politicians, though there are suggestions, they are not enough to be fully fleshed out. Scarface, on the
other hand, is a steady but surely approach. Rough neighbourhood with murdering Indians, underling
takes crown from boss after confrontation, and the main character becoming more paranoid and
delirious as he snuffs coke into his nose. Politics also play a rule in the mindset of our hero, Tony
would gladly carve a hole on a communist, and he would get really angry when hearing Colombians

Multiculturalism In Canada
Canada is routinely defined as the exemplar multicultural society with the most diverse cities in the
world such as Vancouver, Toronto and Quebec. The concepts of integrity and complexity are being
shaped in Canadian society because of its co existence of different cultures. Indeed, multiculturalism
has been a keystone of Canadian policy for over 40 years with the aim of pursuing Canadian unity
(Flegel 2002). Accordingly, Canada is generally estimated a country where people are all equal and
where they can share fundamental values based upon freedom. Diversity is sustained and promoted by
governmental policy, however, there are still racist interactions, which are destructive to minorities
integration, especially recent ethnic groups arrival (Banting Kymlicka 2010). This paper will examine
challenges that multiculturalism has brought society and residents of Canada. There is a growing of
ethnic groups from non European societies, who can meet Canadian economic development in term of
their level of education, occupational skills and languages. Those ethnic groups are called immigrants
because they are neither indigenous nor colonist settlers but are accepted through Canada s
immigration policy (Banting 2010). Even though diverse cultures and differences of minorities were
recognized and celebrated within the bilingual framework during the multiculturalism policy of the
1970s, their full equal participations are still excluded from the mainstream society (Leung 2012).

  • 2. Outward Conformity James Joyce s novel, A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, follows the main character, Stephen Dedalus, through his childhood in Ireland, focusing on the decisions Stephen makes as a young adult that will shape his future. Throughout the novel, there is tension created by the battle between outward conformity to his church and the inward questioning of religion. This can be seen through Stephen attaining the life he longs for while sacrificing the normalities he has assimilated to while maturing. This contributes to the meaning of the work as a whole, in that the paths taken in life ultimately lead to sacrifice. Stephen chooses a different path than that set up for him by his family and the principal members of his Catholic school leading ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From the time he was young, he invented words such as moocow demonstrating his imagination. At the beginning of Stephen s life, his creativity does not interfere with his religion, unlike later in the novel. This creativity, however, hinders Stephen from congealing with the boys at his school, he does not think the same way they do. He is even pushed into a square ditch after being harassed and taunted by the boys who ask him if he kisses his mother. This is significant because his outward hesitation reveals Stephen s attempt at conformity, while his inward inquiry of what was the right answer to the question? (10) causes a division between him and the other students. The tensions between conformity and questioning sever his connection to his peers. The struggles Stephen faces in the very beginning of his Catholic school years stem not from his lack of conformity to religion, but lack of harmonizing with the other students. At this point, Stephen even defends his religion inwardly as well as outwardly. This can be seen when some of the dinner guests, Casey and Dante, argue over the religious state ... • 3. The Price Point Of Wine Executive Summary The report will analyse and expose the various factors that contribute to determine the price point of wine factors including the labour cost to grow grapes and produce wine, the size and reputation of the vineyard and the exclusivity and scarcity of the wine. Studies have shown that the global wine market is divided into four quality segments or categories known as basic premium, popular premium, super premium and ultra premium. Input costs for single vineyards have been divided into five categories known as direct, labour, mechanisation, and maintenance and general costs. Hedonic pricing and statistical analysis review qualities of wine that induce to price differentiation Studies have shown that different regions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 2. Wine categorisation and marketing decisions As Perrin Lockshin (2001) and Blok (2007) state, input costs must be related to the retail segment prices or price points that are given to wines. According to studies taken by Ernst Young Consulting in 1999, global wine market is divided into four quality segments or categories (Perrin Locksin, 2001). These categories are known as basic premium, popular premium, super premium and ultra premium. When the winemaker acknowledge the categories of their various wines they will know which are viable to produce in relation the retail price point that has been given. Studies done in Australia during 2001 by the wine journal industry emerged with a very similar quality segment system which is divided in four categories as well; Commercial wines, Semi premium wines, Premium wines and ultra premium wines. Various winemakers have stated that there is only a hedonic difference between the last two categories (Blok, 2007). Retail distribution channels will therefore vary between wine categories as the winery management determines which channel to target. Depending on quality and quantity the winery could select to distribute for wholesalers, retailers, cellar doors, direct consumers or a combination of these (Heijbroek, 2003; SCSD, 2010). Marketing, advertising and distribution are considered overhead costs as they are not part of the production process. Marketing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I will further evaluate the level and validity of detailed assumptions used to create budget estimates. I will discuss the role of the budget as an analytic tool and explain how the budget can be used to evaluate organizational performance, eliminate inefficiencies in an organization s performance, and explain the budget s role in the business control cycle. I will further analyze control mechanisms that can be put in place to monitor and evaluate the budget, and describe how budget can be used in the performance accountability and reward process. During this stage, the decision makers begin to see if they will get the return on investment they initially anticipated. Following a period of time, perhaps two or three years after approval, projects are reviewed to see whether they should be continued. This reevaluation is referred to as a postcompletion audit. Thorough postcompletion audits are typically performed on selected projects, usually the largest projects in a given year s budget for the firm or for each division. Postcompletion audits show the firms management how well the cash flows realized correspond with the cash flows forecasted several years earlier. (Peterson et al, 2002) The post completion audit serves to thoroughly analyze the initial decision to allocate resources to a given project. If the project failed to meet established objectives this phase is often reffered to as a post mortem analysis. By revisiting the project after an appropriate amount of time has passed, decision makers can determine a project s success or failure. In the case of failure lessons learned can be identified to avoid the same outcome in the future. In creating a budget, decision makers attempt to forecast numbers as accurately as possible. Doing this requires detailed assumptions regarding future costs and returns on investment. While historical data can provide insight into future performance, it is by no means a reliable method that should be expected to provide consistent results. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Legal Aspects Of Dna Testing LaShay Robbins DNA Technologies FRSC 620.102 Research Paper Legal Aspects of DNA Testing and the Scientific Expert in Court DNA testing like many other tools in forensics to identify suspects has been through various evaluations to uncover its validity. These evaluations are necessary because the results of DNA testing can help to exclude, include, and can even be used to convict suspects. The weight of DNA testing is heavy in that can be used to alter a person s life forever, hence, the legal movements for it to be validated. The proper training certificates, proficiency test results, curriculum vitae, employment history are some of the documents the courts use to qualify someone as a Scientific Expert. Through the education and experience they receive, a scientific expert should be able to explain and teach both lawyers and jurors how DNA testing work and how they were able to arrive at their results and conclusions. Their explanations and teachings may involve the use of presentations, literary references, and even scenarios that would help to view the advantages of evidence in every aspect without bias. One reason for exploring and determining the legal aspects of DNA testing is that there are so many factors involved. From sample collection to analyzing results, every step in processing must be handled with the greatest of care. Because DNA testing is now something that is looked for by jurors, the defense attorneys will go through every process used to make sure that proper procedures were followed and that there are no bias elements involved. For this reason, DNA testing procedures must be documented. Notes should be taken before, and during processing. A chain of custody document should also be used to keep an accurate log of the evidence. All of the burdens involved in the legal aspects of DNA testing however, does not fall on the Scientific Expert. The courts must also follow proper procedures to ensure a solid conviction. • 6. Essay On Drug Addiction When a person has a drug addiction, they have a disease that has the ability to affect and hurt the entire family. Everyone in the addict s immediate family is affected in one way or another. Addiction impacts a family s finances, physical health as well as psychological wellbeing. It can also cause tension, miscommunication, and more frequent arguments within a household which in turn creates an unhealthy environment for everyone involved. The addict can be very unpredictable which can cause anxiety, emotional pain, stress, and a loss of trust because that person cannot be counted on to follow through with what they say. Frequently, the people who are addicted don t even realize or believe they are causing these problems within their families. And unfortunately, they don t view themselves as sick or suffering from a problem, so they don t reach out for help. When the person finally realizes they may have a problem, they believe the solution is to escape and run away from their addiction. In Sonny s Blues, Sonny tells his brother I couldn t tell you when Mama died but the reason I wanted to leave Harlem so bad was to get away from drugs. And then, when I ran away, that s what I was running from really. (218) At this point, Sonny is telling his brother he was willing to leave his family behind to run away from his addiction. But it also shows how misguided he was, or rather all drug addicts, to think he could just run away from the drugs. Because in the end, he ends ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Between Light And Dark Skin Complexion There has been a hidden conflict of prejudice that occurs within a race that has recently became common topic of everyday conversation. In 1982, Alice Walker, a well known author gave it a name; colorism. Walker defined colorism in In search of Our Mother s Gardens as prejudicial or preferential treatment of same race people based solely on their color . Colorism has been a significant factor in the creation of self hatred between people of light and dark hue. Within this society, a dominant ideology has been created which in turn causes the parts of the population with non dominant features and characteristics to be made to feel inferior. One of the races is the African American race. The color in between light and dark skin complexion has created a division in the black community in America, and though blacks have come a long way since slavery, they have yet to come to unification amongst one another when placed in the situation of skin differentiation. Colorism in the African American race dates back to the American slavery era. Slavery was practiced throughout the American colonies in the 17th and 18th centuries, and the African American slaves helped build the economic foundations of the new nation. Africans were stripped from their homeland by countries such as England, Spain and Portugal to work in the New World on plantations. The slaves were treated like animals being sold and traded among the slave owners. The Virginia General Assembly declared, in 1705, that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Love From First Sight Essay Love from First Sight Is there anyone who did not have Love in his life? Love is one the most powerful words that we could hear and it is an important element in our life. It is the first feeling that you have been treated by since you were born and opened your eyes. Could you count how many love words that you heard in your life? I do not believe you can because of how many times it has been said to you by your parents or relatives. The first people who love in your life are your parents. They loved you before you were born and they had all that much of love since they loved each other and decided to have a son or daughter. I lived in a society that did not believe in love before marriage. Even the marriages had to be in the traditional way. Our society believes that love only comes after marriage which is something I strongly disagree with. I believe that marriage has to be after a relationship in which both side feel that they have found the right person. I dreamed many times to be in love with a woman that can understand me more than myself and knew how I felt. I do not want to destroy myself because of the criticisms of our society. All the challenges by society made me think and ask myself if there is anyone that had the same feelings that I had? Was there anyone who believed in love from first sight in our society? Was it real or was just something of our imagination? I believe in love from first sight now more than ever. It is real and exists and it happens ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. The Government And Specific Interest Groups Create Public... In the United States, the government and specific interest groups create public policies to solve internal problems and protect their citizens. Public policies can include any action, plan, or rule, which relates to issues of domestic national importance. Once a certain issue becomes a concern for a significant amount of people, it becomes a component of the national agenda, which is what the public wants the government to acknowledge. Many of these problems are addressed because they negatively affect a significant amount of people (Sparknotes: How Policy Gets Made). For the past few years, one of the major issues in the United States is illegal immigration. Unlike today, a person immigrating illegally was not a major issue years ago. Today unfortunately, there are so many illegal immigrants from all over the world that it has become an issue no one can completely control. It was recorded in 2012 that approximately 40.8 million illegal immigrants live in the United States, which makes up thirteen percent of the country. Data on the nativity of the U.S. population were first collected 1850 decennial census. The group brought together a number of writers and artists well known as modernistes (Klein, 2010). Their art assimilated modern trends in art like symbolism. It also evoked the mood and atmosphere rather than the traditional literal description. With regard to poster design, graphic arts and illustration, their art followed the art nouveau from French, which was characterized by artificial colors, twisting contour lines and simplified shapes (Fandel, Picasso, 2006). By the early 1900, Pablo and his colleagues art had moved further to place emphasis on social causes and political anarchy. As the commanding officer of C Company, during 1967, 1LT JRB served under his command as platoon leader. Their mission primarily consisted of searching rice paddies, swamps and jungles south of Saigon with the express purpose of eliminating the Viet Cong and allowing the Delta s agriculture commerce to thrive once again. By all accounts, that mission was ultimately accomplished. A great deal of 1967 was served with the U.S. Navy living aboard their barracks ships and going on patrols from their landing craft when they barracked at Dong Tam deep in the Mekong Delta and dozens of their patrols were launched via Huey Helicopters. 1LT JRB also mentioned that the officers were readily awarded medals and that the enlisted men s accomplishments weren t always recognized. This essay has hopefully alleviated that stumbling block to some degree, although no written work will ever have the capacity to remove it entirely. It has been shown that despite the immensely different beliefs that are held by the Buddhist and Catholic traditions, there is a surprisingly large amount of common ground in the realm of practice. Electric Power, Motors and Generators Surround Us Every Day Introduction Our world is powered by electricity; it surrounds us in every turn and every corner, powering our streetlights, our TVs, our hospitals, our homes, and our communities. Electricity is a form of energy that results from charged particles. There are many energy sources that can be converted into electricity, and that s why it is suited for powering our society. We can generate electricity from burning fuels, energy of falling water, solar energy, and basically anything that has energy. Electricity is also easy to distribute, using transmission lines connecting the energy power station to homes, schools and so on. Atoms consist of electric charge, so electric charge is everywhere and the electric charge has an electric field. An electric field can only be created by a positive charge and destroyed by a negative charge(Brightstorm, 2010). According to Bob emery, owner of senior physics website, to generate electric power it requires motion between a magnetic field and a conductor. Attraction of a magnet is limited to certain boundaries this is called the magnetic field of a magnet (Makemegenius, 2013). • 24. Competition Is The Cornerstone Of Capitalism Competition is the cornerstone of capitalism. It creates rivalry among businesses to produce quality goods and services at competitive prices. This gives consumers a better sense of variety when making purchases. Competition in its purest form creates small buyers and sellers none of which are too large to negatively affect the market as a whole. Competitive markets can be dated back to ancient times when merchants competed in foreign trade. In the 19th century economists considered competition as a natural phenomenon in which growth of an operation was fueled by supply and demand in a free market economy. They also believed that supply and demand worked better in a laissez faire type environment. This was possible through freedom to trade, transparent knowledge of market conditions, no government restrictions on trade, and access to buyers and sellers. These conditions prevented any buyer or seller to significantly affect the market price of a single commodity. After the mid 1800 s, limitations to compete became evident during the industrial revolution. Corporations achieved manufacturing capabilities that would surpass their competitors and would allow them to fix prices and squeeze out their rivals. Eventually some businesses became so large that they controlled enough market share to deceptively manipulate prices in their industry. This activity created an atmosphere for President Theodore Roosevelt to launch his famous trust busting campaigns. The era of antitrust ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Why Is Shakespeare Relevant Today Shakespeare is arguably the greatest playwriter that has lived and although he died more than four hundred years ago he is able to live on through his plays and poems that continue to be performed today. There are arguments that his relevancy is no longer, but perhaps with evidence provided people will be able to see his works are more relevant now than ever.
