Why Iq Tests Be Considered Biased Measures Of Intelligence
1. Why might IQ tests be considered biased measures of intelligence? (5 points)
a. IQ tests can be considered biased measures of intelligence, as there are many factors that have to
deal with it. Even though IQ test are total fairness it all depends on a person s social interaction rate.
For example, if a test taker comes from a third world country where education is not available vs. a

2. What is the relationship between primary, secondary, and tertiary regions of the cortex in
information processing? (5 points)
a. The relationship between primary, secondary, and tertiary regions of the cortex in information
processing is that they are more directly involved with each other than others with sensory or motor
processing. The primary cortex receives information from the peripheral receptors, which then travels
to surrounding primary areas known as secondary and tertiary regions of the cortex where incoming
information is integrated.

Patriarchy In The Woman Warrior
Unlike math or science, most literature is often open to different interpretations; within every novel
there is an inevitable grey area in what an author exactly means to convey to their readers. The same is
undeniably true within Maxine Hong Kingston s memoir The Woman Warrior, a nonlinear
hodgepodge of ghosts, white tiger and tongues. In the traditional roman fleuve, the protagonist strives
to reconcile self and society so that they can construct a coherent self and achieve wholeness, in The
Woman Warrior however, Kingston cannot reconcile. The fact is, Kingston has internalized so many
doctrinal values of the patriarchy, that she incapable of discerning a middle ground between slavery
and rebellion. Throughout the memoir it is apparent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was one knot so complicated that it blinded the knot maker. Finally, an emperor outlawed this
cruel knot and the nobles could not order it anymore. If [Kingston] had lived in China, [Kingston]
would have been an outlaw knot maker. (163). The story harkens back to all the previous buttons and
frogs that were strung together and the reader is reminded that each story Kingston has told is
outlawed and forbidden. With Kingston as the knot maker, all these unspoken tales of suicide, sitting
ghosts and women warriors are combined into one cruel knot that Kingston utilizes as her weapon
against the suppression of her culture. Kingston, in finally finding her voice through these forbidden
stories, leads a triumphant act of rebellion against the traditional Chinese silence that has haunted her

Seizing the Day in Robert Herrick’s poem, “To the...
To what extent may an argument be framed as believable or serious? Persuasion on seizing the day is a
common theme in Robert Herrick s poem, To the Virgins, To Make Much of Time and Andrew Marvel
s To His Coy Mistress . The arguments within the poems can seem unrealistic, a little hyperbolic, with
an underlying intent to acquire a woman to sleep with them. The concrete position of all the arguments
within the two poems seems to be, getting a woman to sleep with them. The two poets posses
similarities between the two pieces of poetry, however argue the topics in different ways. Beauty is not
forever lasting, coyness put aside, while pleasure embraced, and time is of the essence; are all points
made to intrigue women to be with them. To focus on those points a little: The beauty of a woman is
compared to aspects of nature. Herrick s poem only looks at the physical qualities of a woman, unlike
Marvel s, which references personality along with physical traits. Sexual passion embraced, and
coyness set aside? The poets, both urge women to act upon sexual urges while they stay youthful, but
if a woman was told they are not going to be desired when older, would they actually want to be with
someone who tells them that? Time is moving quickly and its made known within the poems. Herrick
is an advocate to relate everything to physical aspects, so of course he says a woman s beauty
diminishes quickly. Marvel does not relate beauty and time together, instead he would

The Final Stage Of The Digital Diet
The final stage of the digital diet is to vitalize. Once again in this section Sieberg stresses the
importance of balance, The success of this process comes down to you make balance a priority, and
the rewards will manifest (Sieberg 1687). This section really focuses on how the readers can take what
they have learned from the past three stages and apply them to every day life. He discusses how it is
important to understand how technology plays a role in your life, how it enhances it and diminishes
your every day life and why you are using it. Thinking about these things will allow you to make
better decisions regarding your use of technology. Sieberg explains that much like Newton s law
everything we do has an equal and opposite reaction. Once again, think about the reaction that is
caused by your use of technology whether it is a positive or negative outcome. Taking the time to
really look at this will provide you with a more productive way of using technology. This does not
necessarily mean you cannot spend time on social media, but putting a limit on your usage can be
extremely beneficial. During this stage it is important to manage the use of technology with your
family or those you live with. Depending on your living structure you can set rules for the household.
This can include limiting video game usage for your children or not allowing smart phones at the
dinner table. Setting rules based on your life can help you stay on track and can guide others around

The Sea Wolf Sparknotes
The Sea Wolf In the novel, The Sea Wolf, by Jack London, there is an abundance of conflict of drama.
This book shows us the true power of corruption. A seal hunting schooner is ruled by a evil man
named Wolf Larsen who rules like a sovereign nation. Throughout the book, the protagonists
experience much death at the hand of Wolf Larsen. He acts like an animal because he acts on his
survival instincts and only cares about survival. The crew on the ships has to become savage to
survive. This is the story of Humphrey Van Weyden who had to learn this the hard way and use all his
survival instinct to overcome the adversity he faced. Even though he is the main character, we are
showed the vile presence of Wolf Larsen throughout the book. We see how brutal and merciless he
treats his crew and how he has no respect for human life. He represents the word evil in every way
throughout the book. This is why I believe Wolf Larsen is a evil person on the outside and at heart.
Since the beginning of the book, we can see how Wolf Larsen acts. We are introduced to him as a
puzzling character who seems like a touch and reckless person. When Van Weyden says that working
the schooner is easy work, Wolf mocks him and says, Strain! Simple as A,B,C! Mathematical
certainty! (London 1). After that, we see Wolf when he rescues Van Weyden from the ship crash. Van
Weyden automatically assumes that since they are only an hour away from San Fransisco, Wolf will
take him back. This is where we can

Original Writing Of The Phantomhive Manor
Some say that living in the Phantomhive Manor would be dull and boring. You didn t think so. On the
contrary, there were things that occurred that made it quite amusing to live on the large estate. One
was the constant misfortunes that befell the servants, such as the breaking of a substantial amount of
dishes, or the accidental killing of an entire garden. These events were the result of the servants own
clumsiness, and in part, foolishness; it made the Phantomhive Manor so much more lively and
humorous than it would be without them. One more thing that amused you at the manor was the head
butler, Sebastian. When you first found the house, you were surprised to see another demon there, and

You had been coming from a contractor s house, after you had disposed of him, having finished your

However, when you slipped into his house, you were quickly met with Sebastian s weapons and fled
from the manor. Under his master s orders, Sebastian practically chased you across the city, wanting
answers as to why you had been in the process of sneaking into the Phantomhive Manor. After that
incident, Sebastian made you apologize to his master, although you were rather annoyed about having
to in the first place. For some reason, you kept visiting time after time, and Earl Phantomhive, who
was now your master as well, had made you a part of his staff after learning how long you had
managed to stay out of Sebastian s reach. Your job, more or less, was that of a maid, and trying to help
the other servants stay out of trouble. It wasn t that bad of a life, and you enjoyed it more than
scouring the streets for a poor soul who happened to venture upon you. This particular evening, you
had decided to have some fun by aggravating the head butler. Knowing of his hatred for dogs, you had
obtained some of the creatures, who weren t that bad in your eyes, and placed seven of them, directly
inside his room. When he retired to his room, you could hear his immediate gasp of surprise and
disgust as he found them. Afterwards, he chased the

The Themes Of Violence In John Winslow s The Cartel
As previously mentioned drug cartels are extremely known for their super violent image. Being a
narco narrative itself, the storyline couldn t omit the theme of violence without discriminations
between men, women and children. A typical scene of violence is that of a trained by the Zetas 11 year
old Chicano kid, a sicario, who is on runaway after opening fire against a crowd and tossing five
severed heads onto the white tiled dance floor. Winslow uses an unorthodox method at his story as
parts of the novel are told from the perspective of a child member of La Familia, suffering from heavy
psychic and physical traumas. Even tougher than the outright violence is the slow destruction of
idealists either they belong to the braches of journalism or politics. For the first, special memorial
reference is included in the book. Winslow is considered to depict the theme of raw violence so as to
raise the audience s awareness of the real violence taking place in Mexico and the war on drugs.
Therefore, it is rightfully said that The Cartel is a pure novelization of the Mexican American reality.
Because of this relative obscurity, many readers might come to believe that most of the events in this
book were created and invented by the author. They would be wrong most of the events that Winslow
described really happened. Sometimes the truth and reality ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

including gingivitis, periodontitis and advanced periodontitis. It may not be immediately obvious that
you have gum disease because it can be painless. If you have tender or bleeding gums, receding gums
or persistent bad breath you may be developing gum disease.
The mouth is full of bacteria that will gradually form a sticky substance called plaque. Brushing and

College Sports Is A Multi Billion Dollar Business

College sports is a multi billion dollar business. Let me share with you an example. In 2012, the
NCAA men s basketball March Madness tournament in, TV ad earnings along eclipsed $1 billion
(Cheney Rice Zak, Mic.com). Furthermore, in that very same year, The NFL playoffs generated $976
million, while the NBA, MLB and NHL playoffs combined failed to out earn March Madness,
clocking a paltry $991 million (el at,. Rice). I believe the best business model in the world is coming
to the end. It comes down to it; it s the NCAA vs. Student Athletes. I don t agree with the current
business model in college sports for three reasons. First, the term student athlete; does that name really
exist? Second, the money NCAA is making is outrageous; they could pay their players. Lastly, these
student athletes bring more future students to their universities because of college sports.
Nonetheless, what seems to be in my eyes is an apparent employer laborer relationship. An association
that s a professional sports league in virtually everyway but its name the NCAA avoids paying players

Surely the war against cancer has the support of 100% of the people. It is a war in which we lost 21

Oedipus the King Greek Drama played an important civic role in ancient Greece. This is evident in the

prophecies and the fact that the Gods controlled their destiny. If something were to be wrong with

fact the Oedipus is attracted to Jocasta as his mother. First of all we don t get to see much of the
romantic side of their relation in this play so it is hard to say that there are any demonstrations of
Oedipal Complex in this play. Secondly Oedipus didn t know that Jocasta was his mother until the
very end. One might say that Oedipus might have originally agreed to married Jocassta because he
found her unconsciously attracted because of that fact that she was his biological mother. However,
her mother abandoned Oedipus at such a young age that he literally had no memory of Jocasta. Hence,
it is hard to believe that Oedipus unconsciously finds Jocasta attractive, not because she is attractive,
but because she is her

The Namesake Movie Themes
Every day there are people from foreign countries who immigrate to the United States in search of
new opportunities and to establish a new life. The Namesake is a heartwarming family movie that
accurately portrays the difficulties that some of these immigrants face when beginning their lives in
their new homeland and trying to assimilate themselves into the foreign culture. The themes of family,
cultural diversity, and identity crisis were displayed prominently throughout the film. Director Mira
Nair has personally gone through the same situation, which made her the perfect director for this
movie. Nair came to the United States from India when she was in college ( Mira Nair ). She used her
knowledge and own background to produce a film based ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gogol is torn between whether he wants to live a true Bengali life like his parents want him to or if he
wants to live an American life like all the people around him. For most the film, the only piece of
Bengali culture that he expresses is his name but he does not express it in a positive manner. To
Gogol, it is just a foolish name that he gets teased for in school. He does not understand why his father
would name him after his favorite author Nikolai Gogol. Viewers do not find out the reason for why
Gogol s father named him Gogol until the middle of the movie; it has to do with the very first scene of
the film when Ashoke is the only survivor on a train that crashes. Even after hearing his father s story,
Gogol remains disengaged from his culture. It is not until his father s unexpected death when Gogol
has an epiphany and finally begins to accept that he can live a life where he is able to embrace two
different cultures without having to choose one or the

Value Line
VALUE LINE PUBLISHING,
OCTOBER 2002
Teaching Note
This case follows the performance review and financial statement forecasting decisions of a Value
Line analyst for the retail building supply industry in October 2002. The case contrasts the strong
operating performance of Home Depot with the strong stock market performance of Lowe s. Students
examine a financial ratio analysis for Home Depot that acts as a template to generate a comparable
ratio analysis for Lowe s. The students ratio analysis is designed to build intuition with respect to
interpreting individual ratios as well as ratio inter relationships (e.g., the DuPont framework). The
historical performance comparison suggests that investors are skeptical of the ability ... Show more

The students should come to realize that the return on capital figures should be evaluated relative to a
market based benchmark, the weighted average cost of capital. Relative to the WACC calculated in
case Exhibit 2, Home Depot is beating its benchmark (12.3 percent), while Lowe s is below its
benchmark (11.6 percent). The class may comment on the justification for differences in the cost of
capital estimates for firms that appear so similar in their risk profiles.
Using a DuPont type decomposition, the instructor can use the available ratio analysis to peel back the
differences in operating performance in margins and turnover. The instructor can also use this time to
build understanding of the economic content of financial ratios. The students should have used the
Home Depot analysis in case Exhibit 7 to build their own ratio analyses of Lowe s. Exhibit TN1
provides a comparison of the 2001 figures for both companies, which can be the focus of the
discussion. Exhibit TN2 provides the entire five year analysis for Lowe s as reference. The discussion
is likely to highlight that, across almost any dimension, Home Depot has outperformed Lowe s on an
operating basis in 2001.
This discussion can be contrasted with the stock market performance. Over the past year, shares in
Lowe s have performed considerably better than those of Home Depot. The instructor can query the

Functionalism In The Black Family
The family is a complex topic that can change drastically on a case by case basis. In the first portion of
this sociological analysis of families, I will be looking into Carol B. Stack s book All Our Kin. This
case study focuses on a neighborhood known as Jackson Harbor, a place where being blood related to
someone does not necessarily make you family. In addition, I will be analyzing the family situation of
my friend Lauren Lynch. Through participant observation and an interview, I was able to uncover
some useful details about her family that allowed me to analyze them through a sociological lens. Part
One: Functionalism in All of our Kin Black families living in The Flats need a steady source of
cooperative support to survive. They share with one another because of the urgency of their needs.
Alliances between individuals are created around the clock as kin and friends exchange and give and
obligate one another. They trade food stamps, rent money, a TV, hats, dice, a car, a nickel here, a
cigarette there, food, milk, grits, and children. (Stack 32) From a functionalist point of view, we see
that the exchange of goods is a necessity for the social stability of this microcosm known as The Flats.
The black families of Jackson Harbor rely on one another to provide for themselves and would not be
able to survive without the help of the community. We can contrast this reality to Wellesley, MA where
the exchange of goods is not necessary because each family tends to have enough

Discrimation In Religion
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints more commonly known as The Mormon church, has
always received a bad reputation when it comes to discrimation. Since the early 1900 s, the church,
some due to the events in the outside world, made mistakes while growing into the church it is today.
One of the major issues that society has with the church is how selective the church was in the past
and is today to the members of the church, though the members have accepted it fully, and do not
oppose it. Today, society widely dislikes and almost fears the church and how it works today, just as
much as they did almost one hundred years ago, because of those mistakes and rules due to revelation
and doctrine in the church. The Mormon Church was established in 1830, and for the first two
decades, Africans were given the same rights as other men. They were given the priesthood, the
opportunity to participate in temple ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The church stated that heterosexuals would not be permitted to participate in the church s sealing
ordinances in the temple, however, they would still be welcome into church meetings and activities.
The church warns against giving into same sex temptations, although, they did so as lovingly as
possible. They have stated that The experience of same sex attraction is a complex reality for many
people. The attraction itself is not a sin, but acting on it is. Even though individuals do not choose to
have such attraction, they do choose to respond to them. With love and understanding, the church
reaches out to all God s children, including our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters ( Love ) . Even
though the church has been kind and loving to any person of nationality, race, or gender attraction,
society still is stubborn about the fact that gays and lesbians are not permitted to participate in temple

The Influence Of Japanese Migration
The Influence of Japanese Migration in the Peru
When Japanese first emigrated to Peru, they were called Nikkeijin which means Japanese people.
Because of the difference between ingredients in Peru and Japan, those migrate took in elements of
Peruvian culture while continuing to observe Japanese customs, they combined native ingredients with
their own cooking techniques, in the area of food in particular, this meeting of cultures has bred what
is known as Nikkei culture or cuisine. With the development of economic and improvement of the
social status of Japanese in Peru, Nikkei cuisine was well developed in last 100 years, mutual
influence happened between Nikkei cuisine and native Peruvian cuisine. Such influence made Nikkei
cuisine unique, it is not Japanese anymore but Peruvian. Furthermore, it reflects the identity of
Nikkeijin. After the gastronomic revolution in recent years, Lima, the capital of Peru, has become a
new food Mecca in South America. Peruvian cuisine spreads rapidly throughout the world as a new
food trend, Nikkei cuisine plays a key role in it. history, emergence, identity, contribution and
globalization.
Japanese emigration to Peru started in the year of 1899, it was encouraged by the Meiji government.
The population of Japan grew explosively after the Meiji Restoration in 1868, accompanied by rapid
industrial development. People were generally anxious about the population problem because of the
limitation of national land area. To the government,

Is Marina Pisklakova The Reason Why Laws Against Domestic...
A woman called the hotline and said her husband planned to kill her. I called the police but the officer
immediately called the husband, saying, look if you do it do it quietly. and I realised there was no
hope (RFK Center for Justice and Human Rights MARINA PISKLAKOVA ). Every year in Russia,
almost 15,000 women are killed by their husbands, and over 50,000 are hospitalized from abuse; 85%
of these victims are female. In countries such as America, these numbers are far lower, and there are
many ways to get help. Many people don t realize that in places such as Russia, if you are a victim of
domestic violence, there is very little you can do to help yourself. In fact, up until recently, there were
no laws prohibiting abuse. Marina Pisklakova is the reason why laws against domestic violence exist.
She has helped thousands women break free of abusive relationships, and has saved countless other
women s lives. Marina is one of the world s most prominent feminists. she encouraged many women
to stand up for their rights, and has paved the way for other feminists in countries where equality is
nothing more than a dream.
Domestic violence is a reality for thousands of women around the world. Domestic violence is when
one member of a family physically or mentally harms another member of the family. While abuse
such as this can happen to men, 85% of domestic violence victims are women. More than 70% of
victims don t report the abuse, and every year thousands of women are

Divine Law In Antigone By Creon Essay
Additionally, Antigone says, I will not transgress the laws of heaven (Sophocles Scene IV.80).
Sophocles uses the character of Antigone to show that divine law takes precedence and if civil law
does not conform with it, civil disobedience must occur. Sophocles, throughout the play indirectly
shows that divine law takes precedence over civil law. Therefore, should a civil law not coincide with
the laws of the gods, it should be broken. Antigone tells Creon, Your edict, King, was strong,/ But all
your strength is weakness against/ The immortal unrecorded laws of God (Sophocles Scene II.60 61).
Sophocles describes how Creon yields to divine law, showing why civil disobedience must occur in
some cases. Creon states, at the end of the play, that the laws of the gods are mighty and must be
served until death (Sophocles Scene ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the law is unjust, he will take part in civil disobedience. However, the civil disobedience must be
done in a non violent, peaceful fashion. He argues that peaceful protest must transpire to bring
attention to the evils of segregation and racial injustice. Segregation is an example of a law that
conflicts with natural law and therefore, action must be taken. King also proclaims, I submit that an
individual who breaks a law that conscience tells him is unjust, and who willingly accepts the penalty
of imprisonment in order to arouse the conscience of the community over its injustice, is in reality
expressing the highest respect for law (5). Essentially, King believes that if someone breaks an unjust
law and accepts the consequence of imprisonment, then that individual is expressing respect for the
law. By accepting the consequence and bringing attention to the injustice of the law, the individual is
immensely benefiting society. Therefore, Sophocles and King believe that individuals have the right to
disobey unjust laws in favor of a higher divine or natural

Benefits Of Single-Sex Education
Margaret Kierath
ENGL 1101
3 December 2017
Are there benefits to students experiencing single sex education? In education there are two types of
educational settings, single sex and co ed. The former is where only one gender is taught in either a
school or a classroom and co ed is where both sex intertwine an learn in a classroom or school
together. Single sex education helps the girls or boys learn at their own paste. Some benefits to single
sex educational settings to consider are style of learning, higher education, interest s and how more
independent students from singe sex schools are.
Single sex education has been around for decades; however, within a coeducational setting it started
rapidly growing in 2006. According to Spielhagen and Kohl, in 2006 NASSPE recorded dingle sex
schools in eighteen states. Within five years the number of single sex schooling has become larger. In
order to be able to have single sex education in classrooms there are three regulations. The first
regulation was to make participation voluntary , second was to show that the single sex classes meet
important government objectives , and third provide a comparable co educational classes in a
geographically accessible location . In order for there to be single gender classes the school had to also
give the option of co ed classes as well. Single sex classrooms were put in place because girls and
boys tend to learn differently and take in the information differently then each other.

This assignment will explain the role of policies and procedures in helping children, young people and
their families.
Policies and procedures are set of guidelines and rules put in place by the government to ensure the

William Tecumseh Sherman Research Paper
William Tecumseh Sherman was a great Union general fighting in the Civil War. His major feat during
the war was his campaign through the South. He started in Chattanooga, Tennessee and ended in
Savannah, Georgia. His March used psychological warfare to make southerners lose support for the
Southern cause by bringing the war to their front doors. This showing of how cruel the war really was
is said to have ended the war more quickly.
It all started November 23, in Chattanooga, Tennessee during the Battle of Chattanooga. Following the
Battle of Chickamauga in September of 1863, General Ulysses S. Grant focused on lifting the
Confederate siege on Chattanooga. Him and General Sherman s army attacked the Confederate troops

Effective Management Of Working Capital
In the daily operations of the skilled nursing center where I work, there are two kinds of capital, fixed
capital and working capital. Fixed capital consists of the building, grounds and equipment and
working capital is what is necessary to manage the day to day activities of the center. When I add
together the totals for current assets and current liabilities in the balance sheet, a very important figure
can be calculated, working capital. Effective management of working capital is essential to my center
s fundamental financial health and operational success. An indication that a facility is in the hands of a

Current assets and current liabilities are the two major players in working capital management.
Items that can be converted into cash quickly are called current assets. These would include, cash on
hand, inventory, short term investments and accounts receivable. Liabilities are financial obligations
that the organization owes. For example, short term notes payable; loans that come due in less than
one year and accounts payable; money owned for goods and services provided to the business.
An unsecured loan, like a credit card is one that is obtained without the use of something valuable like
a car or property as collateral for the loan. It is approved and backed by only the borrower s credit.
Borrowers typically must have a good credit score to be approved for unsecured loans like a personal
line of credit.
When a secured loan is taken out, the lender holds the title or deed or places a lien on something of
value, like a car or a home until the loan has been repaid. If the loan is defaulted on, the lender is
entitled to take possession. A mortgage and an open ended home equity loan are an example of a
secure loan. The borrowing limits are typically higher and the amount of time on the loan can last for a
variable or set amount of

  • 3. Patriarchy In The Woman Warrior Unlike math or science, most literature is often open to different interpretations; within every novel there is an inevitable grey area in what an author exactly means to convey to their readers. The same is undeniably true within Maxine Hong Kingston s memoir The Woman Warrior, a nonlinear hodgepodge of ghosts, white tiger and tongues. In the traditional roman fleuve, the protagonist strives to reconcile self and society so that they can construct a coherent self and achieve wholeness, in The Woman Warrior however, Kingston cannot reconcile. The fact is, Kingston has internalized so many doctrinal values of the patriarchy, that she incapable of discerning a middle ground between slavery and rebellion. Persuasion on seizing the day is a common theme in Robert Herrick s poem, To the Virgins, To Make Much of Time and Andrew Marvel s To His Coy Mistress . The arguments within the poems can seem unrealistic, a little hyperbolic, with an underlying intent to acquire a woman to sleep with them. The concrete position of all the arguments within the two poems seems to be, getting a woman to sleep with them. The two poets posses similarities between the two pieces of poetry, however argue the topics in different ways. Beauty is not forever lasting, coyness put aside, while pleasure embraced, and time is of the essence; are all points made to intrigue women to be with them. To focus on those points a little: The beauty of a woman is compared to aspects of nature. Herrick s poem only looks at the physical qualities of a woman, unlike Marvel s, which references personality along with physical traits. Sexual passion embraced, and coyness set aside? The poets, both urge women to act upon sexual urges while they stay youthful, but if a woman was told they are not going to be desired when older, would they actually want to be with someone who tells them that? Time is moving quickly and its made known within the poems. Herrick is an advocate to relate everything to physical aspects, so of course he says a woman s beauty diminishes quickly. This section really focuses on how the readers can take what they have learned from the past three stages and apply them to every day life. He discusses how it is important to understand how technology plays a role in your life, how it enhances it and diminishes your every day life and why you are using it. Thinking about these things will allow you to make better decisions regarding your use of technology. Sieberg explains that much like Newton s law everything we do has an equal and opposite reaction. Once again, think about the reaction that is caused by your use of technology whether it is a positive or negative outcome. Taking the time to really look at this will provide you with a more productive way of using technology. This does not necessarily mean you cannot spend time on social media, but putting a limit on your usage can be extremely beneficial. During this stage it is important to manage the use of technology with your family or those you live with. Depending on your living structure you can set rules for the household. On the contrary, there were things that occurred that made it quite amusing to live on the large estate. One was the constant misfortunes that befell the servants, such as the breaking of a substantial amount of dishes, or the accidental killing of an entire garden. These events were the result of the servants own clumsiness, and in part, foolishness; it made the Phantomhive Manor so much more lively and humorous than it would be without them. • 12. The Themes Of Violence In John Winslow s The Cartel As previously mentioned drug cartels are extremely known for their super violent image. Being a narco narrative itself, the storyline couldn t omit the theme of violence without discriminations between men, women and children. A typical scene of violence is that of a trained by the Zetas 11 year old Chicano kid, a sicario, who is on runaway after opening fire against a crowd and tossing five severed heads onto the white tiled dance floor. Winslow uses an unorthodox method at his story as parts of the novel are told from the perspective of a child member of La Familia, suffering from heavy psychic and physical traumas. Even tougher than the outright violence is the slow destruction of idealists either they belong to the braches of journalism or politics. For the first, special memorial reference is included in the book. Winslow is considered to depict the theme of raw violence so as to raise the audience s awareness of the real violence taking place in Mexico and the war on drugs. Therefore, it is rightfully said that The Cartel is a pure novelization of the Mexican American reality. Because of this relative obscurity, many readers might come to believe that most of the events in this book were created and invented by the author. I don t agree with the current business model in college sports for three reasons. First, the term student athlete; does that name really exist? Second, the money NCAA is making is outrageous; they could pay their players. Lastly, these student athletes bring more future students to their universities because of college sports. Behind The Formaldehyde Curtain Having read three essays over the last five days, I can now sincerely say that the way an essay is written is as important as its topic, when we think about its effect on the audience. That s actually why I didn t like Behind the Formaldehyde Curtain even though it was enlightening me about a pretty interesting topic. The writer chose the give the information step by step, and it was quite boring reading twelve pages of concatenated data along with some quotes. This is evident in the tragic drama, Oedipus the King by Sophocles. The people of ancient Greece religiously believed in prophecies and the fact that the Gods controlled their destiny. If something were to be wrong with their lands then they would think that it was because something angered the gods, and in return would try to sacrifice animals in an attempt to make the Gods happy. • 24. Functionalism In The Black Family The family is a complex topic that can change drastically on a case by case basis. In the first portion of this sociological analysis of families, I will be looking into Carol B. Stack s book All Our Kin. This case study focuses on a neighborhood known as Jackson Harbor, a place where being blood related to someone does not necessarily make you family. In addition, I will be analyzing the family situation of my friend Lauren Lynch. Through participant observation and an interview, I was able to uncover some useful details about her family that allowed me to analyze them through a sociological lens. Part One: Functionalism in All of our Kin Black families living in The Flats need a steady source of cooperative support to survive. They share with one another because of the urgency of their needs. Alliances between individuals are created around the clock as kin and friends exchange and give and obligate one another. They trade food stamps, rent money, a TV, hats, dice, a car, a nickel here, a cigarette there, food, milk, grits, and children. (Stack 32) From a functionalist point of view, we see that the exchange of goods is a necessity for the social stability of this microcosm known as The Flats. The black families of Jackson Harbor rely on one another to provide for themselves and would not be able to survive without the help of the community. Sophocles uses the character of Antigone to show that divine law takes precedence and if civil law does not conform with it, civil disobedience must occur. Sophocles, throughout the play indirectly shows that divine law takes precedence over civil law. Therefore, should a civil law not coincide with the laws of the gods, it should be broken. Antigone tells Creon, Your edict, King, was strong,/ But all your strength is weakness against/ The immortal unrecorded laws of God (Sophocles Scene II.60 61).
