Our Country s Good
Our Country s Good by Timberlake Wertenbaker
Our Country s Good, a play by Timberlake Wertenbaker, is about a group of English convicts
bound for Australia by sea in 1788. In the first scene, Sideways, a convict on board the ship, is
being brutally whipped and we are introduced to the constant, overwhelming fear, hunger and
despair that the convicts are going through.
We are also introduced to all the officials on board. They are debating the punishment of hanging
that three of the convicts have received for stealing, and we see the different attitudes different
characters have to this. Governor Arthur Phillip supports a humane approach to dealing with the
convicts, but Judge David Collins believes that the law must be ... Show more content on

However, Captain Phillip inspires Clark to go on. In the second rehearsal Robbie Ross is causing
disruption yet again, however, as the convicts begin to act regardless, Ross finds himself impressed
and any further impediments cease.
Liz Morden is sentenced to hanging as a result of accusations of her stealing. She asks Harry
Brewer to tell Ralph Clark, after she is hanged, that she was innocent all along, so that he knows the
truth.
However, Harry suffers a stroke and collapses at this point, after having been mentally ill for quite
a while. He dies that night, with
Duckling by his side.
The officers debate Liz s sentence. Captain David Collins does not support the verdict as he
states that there is only circumstantial evidence and Liz refused to verify or speak up about any
part of the situation. However, Robbie Ross still considers her guilty. Liz Morden is then
brought in and the officers urge her to talk for the good of the colony ... and of the play . Liz
does indeed speak eventually, and she is found innocent. Therefore The Recruiting Officer goes on
as well. Finally, the performance night comes. The convicts different aspirations are revealed, with
Dabby wanting to escape back to her beloved Devon, Wisehammer wanting to become a writer and
Sideways planning to start a theatre company in Australia. There is a sense of triumph among the
convicts as Ralph Clark

Use Of Robots In Robotics
Introduction In the present day, innovation in technology is very large. Human want to discover
more and more advantages from technology. In fact, we can see how it grew in nowadays. A lot of
companies have been spending their finances to invest in smarter technology. They know that if
they don t make the new things, they will be left behind. Robotis one of the best method that many
companies want to invest on, and their purpose is replacing humanat some fields, which can be
dangerous. It is not easy to adapt robots into our life because it directly affects the labor work.
Unemployed rate is still high and many government avoid using robotics in most working fields.
This research is about the usage of robots in healthcare and business. For this report, the two
articles that will be deeply discussed are Are we ready for virtual physicians? by Julie Connelly. and
Robots invade small businesses by Kimberly J. Studer Mark D. Dibner.
Rhetorical context
This informative article, Are we ready for virtual physicians? , was created in 2004 and was a
period of technology development, so this article still have value until now. With the information, it
does relate to how robots can be provided in health care. For example, the author Julie Connelly had
discussed that there are [s]everal ways in which robots might help clinicians come to mind. First,
the robot might help us reach our patients. A physician who works among several urban hospitals or
who is traveling might use

Difference Between Good Guy And Bad Guy
Bad Guy vs Good Guy
Hey Babes, so before I begin I want to thank you for taking part of Inside Life and helping me
choose out this topic!
I m actually super excited to do this topic because I feel like sometimes us as woman or even
men settle for what we think we deserve rather then what we actually deserve and that mainly
has to do with what type of significant other you are associating yourself with! Sometimes we as
woman or men tend to not know the difference between a bad guy and a good guy or we do but
we stick around in hopes they d change! Sometimes we as people tend to attract to our opposite
self! Sometimes we as people get comfortable to who we are with that everything that s being
said and done you get so accustomed to that lifestyle, whether good or bad you don t know what
s right or wrong. Mainly the question is do you know if your significant other is a bad guy or
good guy or what s the difference between the both and whose better ?
So let s begin with them bad guys. Some Women believe that behind every bad guy there s a good,
sensitive, loving and caring man which is true but stubbornness and pride get in the way and they
will never get anywhere in the long run.
Usually Men like this tend to tell women what they want to hear, they are selfish and if doesn t
benefit them they get bored and move on! Men like this Can be authoritative, they tend to belittle
there significant other to make them feel more powerful! Men like this won t motivate you, won t

The United States Army Is A Profession Of Arms
Human Resources is not the first thought when thinking of the United States Army. Generally, most
individuals might think of War, Infantry, Rangers, or even Marines. These are not unreasonable
ideas, considering that the Army is a Profession of Arms, and it exists to defend the United States
by means of combat. Combat specific roles are foundational to the Army, but they do not transport,
feed, or pay themselves. They require tremendous support to be successful. The Army seeks to
conduct...full spectrum operations inclusive of offense, defense, and stability or civil support
operations (Army White, p. 4). Consequently, the Army is comprised of experts in numerous fields.
The HR Sergeant is one of these experts. As a profession, the Army

Notes from the Underground by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
Fyodor Dostoyevsky (1821 1881) was a Russian novelist, journalist, and short story writer that
discussed the psychological state of the human soul in many of his works, one in particular is Notes
from the Underground; which was published in 1864. Notes from the Underground, had a great
influence in the 20th century; the novel takes a man s inability to communicate with society and
uses it to teach readers about the importance of other humans in our daily lives and how that affects
the way we think, live, and learn. Although the narrator has alienated himself from society,
Dostoyevsky uses his knowledge of diction, style, grammar, and many other literary devices to
show the reader that the narrator is lacking the knowledge to communicate... Show more content on

But never, never have I ceased to love that one, and even on the night I parted from him I loved
him perhaps more poignantly than ever. (Fyodor Dostoyevsky Page 87). This quote from the novel
has multiple uses of diction, Dostoyevsky uses vocabulary such as poignantly and extinguished
to describe his feelings in an intelligent manner and then the grammar of Dostoyevsky is a great
way to learn how to write because his words flow together like a river thus giving the character
attitude and passion for what he writes. The overall theme of Notes from the Underground is
alienation; however the novels theme is more complex than that. The novel gives readers an ethic
to take into account when they are feeling alienated. It takes all sides of alienation and
establishes the cons of it, an example of this is the way Underground Man deliberately arranges to
be in a place where he is going to meet the officer just to refuse to move aside, allowing himself

Relationship Between Heathcliff In Wuthering Heights
PART 3 WUTHERING HEIGHTS This is a strange book. It is not without evidences of
considerable power: but, as a whole, it is wild, confused, disjointed, and improbable; This
review, from Examiner publications, 8 January 1848, was one of the first receptions to Emily
BrontГ« s novel, and concluded with the line, It is the province of an artist to modify and in some
cases refine what he beholds in the ordinary world. There never was a man whose daily life (that is
to say, all his deeds and sayings, entire and without exception) constituted fit materials for a book of
fiction. One of the major theme in Wuthering heightsis the meaning of love. The most important

Fossil Fuels In The US
Fossil fuels such as oil, coal, and natural gas provide the U.S. with over 80 percent of its energy
supply (McNerney Cheek, 2012). Fossil fuels, formed from organic materials over the course of
many centuries, have fueled the global and U.S. economic development for the past two centuries.
Nonetheless, fossil fuels are finite resources that cause irreversible harm to the environment.
Scientists consider them nonrenewable forms of energy since they take hundreds of years to form.
According to Rand (2010), fossil fuels were responsible for 79 percent of the greenhouse
emissions in 2010. Poor efficiency practices and higher energy demands have increased the usage
of fossil fuels, and it is now important to find substitute means of generating... Show more content

Energy efficiency has a variety of benefits: lowering cost on both household and economical levels,
reducing demand for energy imports, and fewer greenhouse emissions. Although renewable energy
technologies help to accomplish these objectives of reducing the utilization of fossil fuels, the
cheapest, and often most immediate, is improving energy efficiency. There are considerable
opportunities for improving the efficiency in almost all sectors of the economy, whether it is
transport, energy generation, buildings, or industry. Most typical cars consume fossil fuels.
Choosing alternative forms of transport other than running a personal car saves on the fossil fuel.
Alternative forms of transport in America include train, subway system, or bus. Moreover, taking
public transport does not only save on fossil fuels but it also allows one to concentrate on other
things such as reading. Additionally, the best way of being independent of fossil fuels is driving
less. Bicycle riding or walking reduces the utilization of fossil fuels; it is cheap, good for the

A. Chekhov
The Cherry Orchard is Russian playwright Anton Chekhov s last play. It premiered at the Moscow
Art Theatre 17 January 1904 in a production directed by Constantin Stanislavski. Chekhov intended
this play as a comedy and it does contain some elements of farce; however, Stanislavski insisted on
directing the play as a tragedy. Since this initial production, directors have had to contend with the
dual nature of this play.
The play concerns an aristocratic Russian woman and her family as they return to the family s
estate (which includes a large and well known cherry orchard) just before it is auctioned to pay the
mortgage. While presented with options to save the estate, the family essentially does nothing and
the play ends with the estate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chekhov was apparently delighted with the very sound of the title, and enjoyed the same sense
of triumph months later when he finally revealed it to Stanislavski. By October 1903 the play
was finished and sent to the Moscow Art Theater. Three weeks later Chekhov arrived at rehearsals
in what would be a vain attempt to curb all the weepiness from the play which Stanislavski had
developed. The author apparently also snickered when, during rehearsals, the word orchard was
replaced with the more practical plantation , feeling he had perfectly and symbolically captured the
impracticality of an entire way of life.

How Does Rosalind Use Dramatic Irony In As You Like It
Both As You Like It and The Outing make use of verbal irony. In As You Like It, Rosalind
decides to take on a male persona in order to talk with Orlando openly. She gives herself the
name Ganymede and dresses up like a man. Later in the play, Orlando has a conversation with
Ganymede and does not realize that he is in fact Rosalind in disguise. Rosalind, dressed as
Ganymede, chides him to woo her as if she were Rosalind: What would you say to me now / an I
were your very very Rosalind? (IV. i. 74 75). Each time Rosalind insists that she is Rosalind is
ironic because she is simultaneously Rosalind and is playing the part of Rosalind. Orlando fails to
realize this. Similarly, in The Outing, Elaine does not realize who someone actually... Show more

In As You Like It, Celia s and Rosalind s friendship seems intimate and intense. They speak to
each other as if they are lovers and not friends. At the beginning of the play, Rosalind is upset
about her father s banishment. She and Celia have a minor fight where Celia accuses her of not
loving her fully: Herein I see thou lov st me not with the full weight I love thee (I. ii. 7 8). The two
characters quickly make up because of Rosalind s sacrifice. She says that she will ignore her
problems to focus on Celia. The characters speak to one another as if they are in a romantic
relationship although they are cousins. In addition to blurring the line between men and women,
Shakespeare blurs the line between platonic relationships and intimate ones. Larry Charles does
the same in The Outing with Jerry and George. In doing so, Shakespeare and Charles are able to
play with their respective characters and mislead the audience. Jerry and George say and do
several things throughout the episode that imply they are in a relationship. For instance, Jerry and
George bicker about minor things such as George s shirt and how clean a pear is. Although the
audience knows that Jerry and George are not

The Impact of Railroads in America
Nineteenth century America was a time of rapid growth and expansion. The movement of settlers
further and further west accompanied by technological advances led to the major growth of cities
and industries across the American frontier. However, it was the major innovations of
transportation that had the most significant impact on the expansion of Midwestern and western
America. The construction of canals and roads led to the increase in the use of stagecoaches,
steamboats, and ultimately railroads. Railroads became extremely popular in America in the 1800
s. The railroad industry itself began to boom; it was supported by its reputation for speed and
efficiency. But, along with the booming industry of railroads came the strong debate that... Show

And it was there that railroads began to have a significant impact on the development and expansion
of American society. At the peak of expansion in the 1800 s, communication between the east and
west was at the forefront of importance. A document from the State of Pennsylvania regarding
railways in 1825 remarked that there is extreme importance and necessity of effecting a
communication between the eastern and western divisions of the commonwealth (Wade, 5). The
appearance of the railroads in the early 19th century decreased and nearly diminished the
communication gap as it provided a reliable and speedy method of communication. As the railroads
became more prominent across the United States, the western states naturally became linked to the
Midwestern and eastern states through the Union Pacific Railroad. This railroad running from the
east coast to the west coast opened up new doors in trans continental communication. Businesses
between the east and the west were able to communicate more effectively, and thus, trans
continental trade became more defined throughout the United States. The mail services began using
railroads as well, which was a large factor in improving communication across the US. Trans
continental communication was broadened simply by the increased number of people traveling
across the country. And, even when the railroads seemed an impractical method of transportation,
they might make possible long

In the book, Me Talk Pretty One Day , author David Sedaris experiences many encounters with
alternative perspectives that clash with his own. Sedaris resistance and insistence of his own
superiority to said perspectives reflects the attitudes of the prisoners as well as the enlightened

accompanied by a woman named Bonnie, who proudly wears her tourism on her sleeve. In this

America s Fear Of Crime
America s fear of crime has developed an incarceration binge that has resulted in a disparity in
America s prisons, largely, affecting the underclass; dishonored groups caught in a symbiosis of the
ghetto and prison, meaning, that ghettos have become more like prisons, and so undermined the
inmate society, as such, turned prisons, more like ghettos; hence, developed a state wherein the
criminal justicesystem is the instrument to control the poor (Wacquant, 2010). Inevitably, societal
isolation, constraints the agency of the poor; their racial isolation develops environments, where
residential instability, family disruption and economic inequality facilitate marginality,
unequivocally deprecating poor minorities life chances. Largely, due to socioeconomic forces and
manipulation of institutional arrangements by powerful elites, which in turn, perpetuate the inmate
disparity. Thus, maintains the underclass caste, more succinctly, an American apartheid.
Accordingly, general consensus portrays inner cities (i.e. generally poor black neighborhoods), as
the apparatus of crime. In this view, crime emanates from the poor, and so generates an
environment credible fear that intensifies racism and frantic search for solutions in the form of
draconian laws (e.g., zero tolerance, War on Drugs policies) that target the underclass and serve to
advance formal social control via prisons. Destitute minorities, disproportionately black and Latino,
therefore, are convicted and

Lowry s True Colors System
When first reading about Lowry s True Colors system, I immediately assumed that the results of
this quiz would have little to no effect on my understanding of not only my personality type and
behavioral style, but others as well. After completing this quiz, I can honestly say that my initial
assumption was utterly wrong. Admittedly, my opinion was altered when I received a high score of

descriptions of the color blue with myself. Even though I was able to connect with most of the
blue color descriptions, there happened to be a few that practically popped off the scream and
screamed my name. These attributes include my specialty of valuing close relationships, staying
true to myself, and getting involved in causes. As I was reading the blue description list, one
quality particularly caught my eye; the ability to value close relationships. I believe that this
attribute most closely relates to my personality and behavior because of how much I appreciate
and love my family and friends. For instance, even though I am a freshman in an unfamiliar
town, far away from all the people I care about, I still make time everyday to get in touch with

Argumentative Essay On Dante s Inferno
Gary Jewell
Argumentative Essay on Dante s Inferno Dante s Inferno is an epic poem that is clearly
centered on his hate for Pope Boniface VIII. Dante s circles of hell described so vividly in his
poem are the result of Dante s angst toward Boniface as he was once on top of the world until
Boniface exiled him only because of his political opinions. Although, he does not clearly name
Boniface in the epic he makes sure to include him in five obscure allusions. The first instance
alludes to the incumbent pope before Boniface, Pope Celestine V, as the one who made the great
refusal in the circle of neutrals; as he allowed Boniface to plant seeds of doubt in the months
before he suddenly and unexpectedly resigned, leaving Boniface the Pope. The second allusion
would place Boniface perfectly in the eighth circle, sixth pouch as the fraudulent sinner he was to
prey on Celestine with his utter gift of fraudulent gab to gain a political position of power. The
third, fourth, and fifth instances all point to his questionable practice of selling indulgences or
absolution. So, therefore, just because he cannot directly mention Boniface in his epic due to him
still being alive during the time of his writing, he still manages to make it a point to let him know
there is a place for him in Hell. American Educator Susan Blow studied Dante s Inferno with great
respect to the implements of ethics and theology. In the following excerpt, she discusses the
Inferno from an ethical and theological point of view, explaining that divine retribution implies
man s fundamental ethical responsibility, and that Hell is the Creator s final tribute of respect to
the being he made in his own image (Blow, para 1). Blow clearly understood Dante s views and
states, His poem is not individual but universal; he utters not his own thought, but the unformulated
creed of Christendom. Nay, he reaches beyond Christianity and speaks to the universal conscience
of humanity that inward witness which is always calling upon man to rejoice in his freedom and
tremble before the responsibility bound up with it (Blow, para 2). Scholar Thomas Peterson looks a
little further into Dante s Inferno and why it is that of a parody in some instances.

Counselor of the Economic Relief Advisory Sub Committee in United States Senate, is proposing a
radical shift in the way Americans interact with money. In hopes of reforming and strengthening the
American economy, we propose to replace the primary currency of the United Statesfrom coins and
paper tender to gold infused cinder blocks. For example, a 20 dollar brickwill have 20 dollars worth
of gold molten into it. After much deliberation says Crowski, we have determined that this is the
best course of action to help the American people to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With wasteful consumer spending decreased, Americans will be able to focus their hard earned
dollars on more important items, such as flat panel LCD s and energy efficient hybrids. Thus
Americans would become less consumer culture. Also, replacing the American currency with
cinder blocks would help curb muggings and other sorts of street violence. Many times,
criminals target individuals who appear to be carrying cash, among other things. However,
since cash will become obsolete, individuals will not be able to carry money with them, thus
eliminating a portion of street crime. Another important aspect of cinder blocks is the ease of
use and the convenient nature of them, notes Jim Louse, author the book, I wish I knew how I

Beekeeper. In his book he lays out the practical applications of the cement blocks: First and
foremost, these (cinder) blocks can easily be stored as part of a larger structure. Imagine this;
whole houses and even neighborhoods created out of these blocks. People s houses will literally
become their money. This gives homeowners incentives to keep their houses in a clean condition.
If their house s walls are made out of these blocks, and these blocks represent their money they
have an incentive to keep the walls of their

Radical Congressional Plan For Reconstruction Essay
Reconstruction in America was a time designated towards rebuilding the South both physically
and socially as well as integrating this revolutionized area back into the Union after the
devastating Civil War. Through the addition of Constitutional Amendments as well as bills such
as the Civil Rights Act of 1866, the Radical Congressional Plan was able to fuse another race, that
of the southern blacks, into a previously divided nation. Furthermore, the plan of the Radicals
allowed Federal power to encourage a drastic change both economically and socially in the Deep
South, however, not without some drawbacks as seen from the KKK and the repression of

citizenship and the basic rights (excluding suffrage) for the Freedmen and therefore tempering

Fourteenth Amendment required that previous Confederate states ratify it in order to become part
of the Union again, further securing and protecting an endangered race. In continuation of the
Radicals plan to reinvigorate the South was the passing of the Fifteenth Amendment which not only
guaranteed black suffrage but also ensured that any states who were still dismal would not be
capable of amending their state constitutions to take away the ballot from blacks. Although this was
rash in the eyes of the entering states, this allowed for the equality of races and created greater
political opportunities for those of the black race to partake in government either as delegates or

The Importance of You-Are-Here Maps in Emergency Situations
Introduction
You Are Here maps are specific maps which have an indicator, You are here , to place the
position of the map reader on the map. You are here maps are aimed to guide newcomers in a
modest size unit such as shopping malls, parks, university campuses, airports. You are here maps
allow people to orient themselves in the environments (Levine, 1982). Visitors of these areas will
have different purposes. For example, a visitor may search for a particular shop in complex
shopping mall or a newcomer in a public or commercial building might look for the exit door.
According to different purposes, a variety of spatial task is needed. One of the most important
purpose and spatial task is to guide people to the nearest exits in the case of evacuation. In the
case of emergency situation spatial awareness of all involved people is really critical. Therefore,
You Are Here maps could help people to locate themselves in the place and finding the way to the
nearest exit. This literatures review is conducted in order to investigate cognitive challenges in
interpretation of YAH maps in their environment, such as parks, malls and any public building in

The Deductive Argument Of Evil
The deductive argument for evil is more philosophical and packs a bigger punch, while the
evidential argument is much more convincing, but less powerful in the sense of philosophy. The

god is all powerful, the third is that godis all good, and finally the fourth is that evilexists in this

where the evidential argument comes into play. The evidential argument holds that first, the kind
of evil that exists in the world is unexpected if God exists, and secondly if the kind of evil that
exists is not surprising if God does not exist. Therefore the

The Man I Killed, By Tim O’Brien
Usually when someone is murdered, people expect the murderer to feel culpable. This though, is
not the case in war. When in war, a soldier is taught that the enemy deserves to die, for no other
reason than that they are the nation s enemy. When Tim O Brien kills a man during the Vietnam
War, he is shocked that the man is not the buff, wicked, and terrifying enemy he was expecting.
This realization overwhelms him in guilt. O Brien s guilt has him so fixated on the life of his
victim that his own presence in the story as protagonist and narrator fades to the black. Since he
doesn t use the first person to explain his guilt and confusion, he negotiates his feelings by
operating in fantasy by imagining an entire life for his victim, from his... Show more content on

But with the same fantasy, he also tortures himself, by imagining exactly why the man s death
might be such a horrible tragedy. O Brien feeds his guilt by imagining that the man he killed was
in the prime of his life. By imagining that the man he killed wrote romantic poems in his journal
and had fallen in love with a classmate whom he married before he enlisted as a common
rifleman, O Brien can more easily identify with his victim and understand the terrible nature of
the killing. When describing the life of the man he killed O Brien starts every sentence with the
word He as if to make it clear that even though the man and O Brien were similar, it was still the
man s life that was ended not O Brien s. Also by continuously using He O Brien tries to separate
himself from the man to make him the enemy but in the end he fails. O Brien can t justify what he
did because the realization that the man was just a regular man shatters his idea of the Vietnamese
deserving the violence. The futile comments and half hearted attempts of comfort made by the
other soldiers along with the conspicuous silence demonstrate that nothing can erase the harsh
reality of what has occurred. Azar s pitiless offers of congratulations and his comparisons of the

The Importance Of Freedom In American Society
One of the foundations of American society is the belief that freedom reigns above all else.
However, this does not seem to be the case in recent years. Due to early opposition to
organization, the Constitution in the United States outlines rights to freedom unprecedented in
other areas around the globe. Based originally in freedom of religion, American freedom exists
in all arenas. For example, freedom of speech provides all people with the ability to say anything
on their mind. In some situations, however, freedom does not offer the sense of safety many
individuals desire. Recently there have been several instances in the American cultural sphere
that seem to lean the culture towards embracing safety, even though such practices may
compromise freedom itself. Instances of the sort include the desire for protection from racism
and violence based on race, availability of safe spaces, as well as opposition to their
establishment, isolationist policies within political parties, social media influences and targeted
advertising, as well as fear from large uncertainties like gun abuse and terrorism. Freedom from
ideas discourages freedom of ideas, but offers an illusion of safety to the individual. Race
relations have for generations been incredibly sensitive since the acceptance and expansion of
slavery in the 16th century. The ownership of another person due to their skin color is not ethical
in today s society and due to the overall lack of action taken to undo said actions,

Pornography is one of mankind s most revered, respected, and repulsed pastimes. Adults can use
pornography to relieve stress, enhance their sex lives, or simply as a means of entertainment. One
of the easiest and most popular ways of obtaining pornographic material is over the Internet. The
only downside is that the Internetis accessible to children; therefore, pornographyis accessible to

The Internet has experienced an extraordinary growth. The number of host computersВ—those that
store information and relay communicationsВ—increased from about 300 in 1981 to approximately
9,400,000 by the time of the trial in 1996. Roughly 60% of these hosts are located in the United
States. About 40 million people used the Internet at the time of trial, a number that expected to
mushroom to 200 million by 2000. How can it be possible to regulate all Internet transmissions with
user numbers at 200 million?
Another problem that arises is the fact that not all Internet sites can quantifiably prove that the
user wishing to browse their domain is of legal age. An annoy mailer can be used to hide the
identity of the user. Some sites require the use of a credit card in order to view its contents, but
credit card numbers are easy to obtain. This limitation of proof is being minutely controlled by a
number of sites dedicated to helping parents censor what their children see. This might possibly be
the first step in what will protect the American children from viewing obscene material. One such

The Theme Of The Taming Of The Shrew By William Shakespeare
Love and friendship, sadness and pain, birth and death all are proven to be constants throughout
history. Even as centuries go by and cultures evolve or diminish, there will be concepts that never
die out; ideas that are everlasting in time. One, who proved this, is William Shakespeare. His
pieces were first created in the late 1500s; nonetheless, his writing is still relevant even today,
almost 5 centuries later. In Greenway s school play, the setting was moved to the 1970s, yet the
play s aroma withstood the changes. Therefore, changing the context of one of his plays, such as
The Taming of the Shrew, minimally effects the appeals which can be seen through the consistency
of the audience, his unfading persona, and universal message. Changing... Show more content on

One message of the play is that love is an addiction. In the original play set in the 16th century,
various individuals seek love from another; the same is true in Greenway s adaptation. In both,
the characters fantasize and attempt the most ridiculous ways to steal the heart of their true
love . Although the adaptation is set centuries later, it stays true to the message by incorporating
these fanatics which allows the message to live on. Shakespeare developed his plays in a way
that could be recreated for centuries; he made his ideas to be relevant for the present and the
future. Thus, if the message was no longer present in Greenway s play, then the entire play
would have to be different. In that case, it is not a Shakespeare play if the drama is gone: it s
just a boring play. Then again, one could see how the message is slightly altered. Love during
the 1500s differs from love in the 1970s due to arranged marriages being popular in the past. In
the 1500 1600s, love could often referred to marriage, but in the 1970s love meant to have a deep
affection for another. With all considered, the message is altered due to the understanding of love
from the different time periods. Still, the message stays relatively close. In all, the message stays
true to its roots despite the context

The Internal Revenue Code
I am writing this letter on behalf of my client to explain the potential benefits of electing to be
taxed as sub chapter S to your board members. As we all know, for many companies, the most
important tax decision to make is whether to elect to be treated under the provisions of sub chapter

and on analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of choosing to be treated as an S Corporation.

The excess of loss can be carried back to prior years, or forward to later years. If the S
corporation did not distribute income to shareholders, the shareholders would still be responsible
to pay taxes on the income, according to their shares in the corporation. Also, an S corporation
also has no corporate alternative minimum tax (AMT) liability, and they are subject to an
accumulated earnings tax that applies to corporations that do not distribute their earnings, but it
might affect the shareholders individual AMT liability. In an S corporation, shareholders receive
a step up (or step down) in the basis of their stock, based on the earnings they obtain each year,
which reduces the shareholder s tax liability when the shares are sold. The step up in basis helps
reduce the net income subject to capital gain tax; when the shareholder receives distributed income
that was taxed previously to him/her, the stock basis should be reduced. Also, any time the
corporation suffers a net operating loss, the shareholder must reduce the basis of their stock to
reflect the amount of loss passed through to them for their individual tax return. In order to obtain

The subconscious mind acts as a storage device for memories, thoughts, and beliefs, as well as
initiate emotions and thoughts, influences speech, affects people s behavior, etc. The job of the
subconscious mind seems to go on forever. But, with these many responsibilities, the many causes
of mental and physical problems take root in the subconscious mind. For example, unexpressed and
unresolved memories and emotions that are stored within the subconscious mind can function as
negative, limiting filters and lead to chronic anxiety, phobias, depression, addictions, and low self

Galileo versus the Catholic Church
Letters on the Solar Spots was made public in 1613. Copernicus s theory was openly discussed in
this letter (Galilei and Drake, 145). Copernicus proposed than an axis revolving Earth
circumnavigated around the heart of the universe, the Sun (Andrade, 120). Father Lorini, a
Dominican friar and professor of ecclesiastical history in Florence, was among the first to
criticize Galileo for his Copernican views (Linder). The Copernican theory contravened the
belief of the Holy Scripture that the Earth was in the middle of the universe (Andrade, 125).
Lorini used Joshua 10:13 and Isaiah 40:22 as support. Joshua 10:13 states that So the sun stood
still in the midst of heaven . Isaiah 40:22 talks about the heavens stretched out as a curtain above
the circle of the earth (Linder). Galileo s Letter to Castelli in December of 1613 was a reply to
the condemnation he received due to his beliefs about the Copernicus theory. Galileo proposed in
the letter that certain things in the Scripture were not to be taken literally. This letter only increased
the amount of criticism towards Galileo (Andrade, 125). Father Lorini then took the drastic step of
getting the Catholic Church involved. Lorini sent an altered copy of Letter to Castelli to the
Roman Inquisition. Lorini altered the text of the letter to make it appear that Galileo directly
pronounced the Scriptures as false. Lorini was not the only enemy of Galileo however. Father

Marine Engineer Was Robert Fulton
Ships have been around for thousands of years, we used them to conquer other countries, to
transport food and people, and for our enjoyment. Every ship that has been made, was unique.
The Vikings made ships in different sizes, shapes, and made out of different types of wood.
Ships have evolved from a huge row boat, to a steam boat, to a huge engine and with lots of little
changes in between. We always need someone to make sure that those ships are running perfect
and that it will make it home safe. Those people that work in the ships are called Marine Engineers
they are the ones that make sure the ships will make it home. One very important marine engineer

ships and how the Marine Engineeringbegan and how our ships have changed.
Boats were made before 4000 BC but most of these boats were rafts, logs of bamboo, bundles of
reeds, air filled animal skins tied together to float down the river or any little body of water. The
first boat was a hallowed out log that was like a canoe. That was estimated to be made around
8000 BC. The sail boat was made around 4000 BC it was made out little logs tied together with

chewing bubblegum would increase or decrease the mass of the bubble gum. The mass of the
bubblegum might increase, because we are adding saliva to it, or decrease, because we are
breaking the ingredients in the gum down. Problem question: Our problem question was, How
does the amount of time chewing affect the mass of the bubblegum? Research: When we chew
something, we break down the piece we are chewing into smaller pieces, making what we are

grams Sources of Error One source of error could have been that we didn t stop chewing when
the timer/stopwatch stopped. This could have affected our data because the bubblegum could
have lost more mass than it would ve if we only chewed for 2 minutes. For example, on our data

Misconceptions of Rastafarianism
Sam Cook 12/1/2012 Rhetoric of Reggae Tuna (Professor Snider) Common Misconceptions of the
Rastafarian People When an average person hears the word Rastafarianism, several things come to
mind. Some examples would be the stereotypical images of dreadlocks (long braids or natural
locks of hair), the smoking of ganja (marijuana), the busy streets of Trenchtown, and the reggae
rhythms of the one and only Bob Marley. Unfortunately, those things are not necessarily the
makings of what truly embodies the Rastafari culture. With the growing international popularity of
reggae in the 1970 s, the Rastafarian movement gained headway in Jamaica. Yet this came as both
a blessing and curse for the Rastafarian, because it created... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Despite Rasta s believing in different gods, it is looked down upon to judge another Rastafari
for the I s belief system or reasoning behind it. (Brodber) We are all one. The concept of InI is
that Rastafarian s are walking in step with their creator. Next on the list and created by the
majority is that Rastafari is a cult religion. First of all, Rastafari is not a cult. According to
www.merriam webster.com, a cult is 1.) A formal religious veneration. and 2.) A system of
religious beliefs and ritual. If someone were to say that Rastafarianism is a cult based on the
first definition, then the same assumption would therefore have to be made across the board
about all organized religions. Secondly, and perhaps even more importantly than the first
definition, Rastafari is not a religion. It is a spiritual livity. (Bisnauth 195 199) Livity refers to
the energy or life force that flows through all living things. (Tyehimba Salandy) My favorite is
that all Rastafarians are from Jamaica. Though the origins of the livity were formed in Jamaica and
focused on repatriation and reconnecting with Africa, I thiopia, the motherland of all human
creation, not all Rastafarians are Jamaican. (Hausman and Marley) There are Rastafarian people of
all colors, backgrounds, and races. Rastafarians live worldwide. Even though Rastafari seeks to
transcend race, and racial

We are also introduced to all the officials on board. In the second rehearsal Robbie Ross is causing disruption yet again, however, as the convicts begin to act regardless, Ross finds himself impressed and any further impediments cease. Liz Morden is sentenced to hanging as a result of accusations of her stealing. She asks Harry Brewer to tell Ralph Clark, after she is hanged, that she was innocent all along, so that he knows the truth. However, Harry suffers a stroke and collapses at this point, after having been mentally ill for quite a while. He dies that night, with Duckling by his side. The officers debate Liz s sentence. Captain David Collins does not support the verdict as he states that there is only circumstantial evidence and Liz refused to verify or speak up about any part of the situation. However, Robbie Ross still considers her guilty. Liz Morden is then brought in and the officers urge her to talk for the good of the colony ... and of the play . Liz does indeed speak eventually, and she is found innocent. Therefore The Recruiting Officer goes on as well. Finally, the performance night comes. Generally, most individuals might think of War, Infantry, Rangers, or even Marines. • 6. Notes from the Underground by Fyodor Dostoyevsky Fyodor Dostoyevsky (1821 1881) was a Russian novelist, journalist, and short story writer that discussed the psychological state of the human soul in many of his works, one in particular is Notes from the Underground; which was published in 1864. Notes from the Underground, had a great influence in the 20th century; the novel takes a man s inability to communicate with society and uses it to teach readers about the importance of other humans in our daily lives and how that affects the way we think, live, and learn. Although the narrator has alienated himself from society, Dostoyevsky uses his knowledge of diction, style, grammar, and many other literary devices to show the reader that the narrator is lacking the knowledge to communicate... This quote from the novel has multiple uses of diction, Dostoyevsky uses vocabulary such as poignantly and extinguished to describe his feelings in an intelligent manner and then the grammar of Dostoyevsky is a great way to learn how to write because his words flow together like a river thus giving the character attitude and passion for what he writes. The overall theme of Notes from the Underground is alienation; however the novels theme is more complex than that. The novel gives readers an ethic to take into account when they are feeling alienated. It takes all sides of alienation and establishes the cons of it, an example of this is the way Underground Man deliberately arranges to be in a place where he is going to meet the officer just to refuse to move aside, allowing himself ... Fossil fuels, formed from organic materials over the course of many centuries, have fueled the global and U.S. economic development for the past two centuries. Nonetheless, fossil fuels are finite resources that cause irreversible harm to the environment. Scientists consider them nonrenewable forms of energy since they take hundreds of years to form. According to Rand (2010), fossil fuels were responsible for 79 percent of the greenhouse emissions in 2010. Energy efficiency has a variety of benefits: lowering cost on both household and economical levels, reducing demand for energy imports, and fewer greenhouse emissions. Although renewable energy technologies help to accomplish these objectives of reducing the utilization of fossil fuels, the cheapest, and often most immediate, is improving energy efficiency. There are considerable opportunities for improving the efficiency in almost all sectors of the economy, whether it is transport, energy generation, buildings, or industry. Most typical cars consume fossil fuels. Choosing alternative forms of transport other than running a personal car saves on the fossil fuel. Alternative forms of transport in America include train, subway system, or bus. Moreover, taking public transport does not only save on fossil fuels but it also allows one to concentrate on other things such as reading. • 11. A. Chekhov The Cherry Orchard is Russian playwright Anton Chekhov s last play. It premiered at the Moscow Art Theatre 17 January 1904 in a production directed by Constantin Stanislavski. Chekhov intended this play as a comedy and it does contain some elements of farce; however, Stanislavski insisted on directing the play as a tragedy. Since this initial production, directors have had to contend with the dual nature of this play. The play concerns an aristocratic Russian woman and her family as they return to the family s estate (which includes a large and well known cherry orchard) just before it is auctioned to pay the mortgage. Chekhov was apparently delighted with the very sound of the title, and enjoyed the same sense of triumph months later when he finally revealed it to Stanislavski. By October 1903 the play was finished and sent to the Moscow Art Theater. Three weeks later Chekhov arrived at rehearsals in what would be a vain attempt to curb all the weepiness from the play which Stanislavski had developed. The author apparently also snickered when, during rehearsals, the word orchard was replaced with the more practical plantation , feeling he had perfectly and symbolically captured the impracticality of an entire way of life. At the peak of expansion in the 1800 s, communication between the east and west was at the forefront of importance. A document from the State of Pennsylvania regarding railways in 1825 remarked that there is extreme importance and necessity of effecting a communication between the eastern and western divisions of the commonwealth (Wade, 5). The appearance of the railroads in the early 19th century decreased and nearly diminished the communication gap as it provided a reliable and speedy method of communication. As the railroads became more prominent across the United States, the western states naturally became linked to the Midwestern and eastern states through the Union Pacific Railroad. This railroad running from the east coast to the west coast opened up new doors in trans continental communication. Businesses between the east and the west were able to communicate more effectively, and thus, trans continental trade became more defined throughout the United States. The mail services began using railroads as well, which was a large factor in improving communication across the US. • 22. Argumentative Essay On Dante s Inferno Gary Jewell Argumentative Essay on Dante s Inferno Dante s Inferno is an epic poem that is clearly centered on his hate for Pope Boniface VIII. Dante s circles of hell described so vividly in his poem are the result of Dante s angst toward Boniface as he was once on top of the world until Boniface exiled him only because of his political opinions. Although, he does not clearly name Boniface in the epic he makes sure to include him in five obscure allusions. The first instance alludes to the incumbent pope before Boniface, Pope Celestine V, as the one who made the great refusal in the circle of neutrals; as he allowed Boniface to plant seeds of doubt in the months before he suddenly and unexpectedly resigned, leaving Boniface the Pope. The second allusion would place Boniface perfectly in the eighth circle, sixth pouch as the fraudulent sinner he was to prey on Celestine with his utter gift of fraudulent gab to gain a political position of power. The third, fourth, and fifth instances all point to his questionable practice of selling indulgences or absolution. So, therefore, just because he cannot directly mention Boniface in his epic due to him still being alive during the time of his writing, he still manages to make it a point to let him know there is a place for him in Hell. American Educator Susan Blow studied Dante s Inferno with great respect to the implements of ethics and theology. In the following excerpt, she discusses the Inferno from an ethical and theological point of view, explaining that divine retribution implies man s fundamental ethical responsibility, and that Hell is the Creator s final tribute of respect to the being he made in his own image (Blow, para 1). Blow clearly understood Dante s views and states, His poem is not individual but universal; he utters not his own thought, but the unformulated creed of Christendom. Nay, he reaches beyond Christianity and speaks to the universal conscience of humanity that inward witness which is always calling upon man to rejoice in his freedom and tremble before the responsibility bound up with it (Blow, para 2). Scholar Thomas Peterson looks a little further into Dante s Inferno and why it is that of a parody in some instances. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. The Importance Of Freedom In American Society One of the foundations of American society is the belief that freedom reigns above all else. However, this does not seem to be the case in recent years. Due to early opposition to organization, the Constitution in the United States outlines rights to freedom unprecedented in other areas around the globe. Based originally in freedom of religion, American freedom exists in all arenas. For example, freedom of speech provides all people with the ability to say anything on their mind. In some situations, however, freedom does not offer the sense of safety many individuals desire. Recently there have been several instances in the American cultural sphere that seem to lean the culture towards embracing safety, even though such practices may compromise freedom itself. Instances of the sort include the desire for protection from racism and violence based on race, availability of safe spaces, as well as opposition to their establishment, isolationist policies within political parties, social media influences and targeted advertising, as well as fear from large uncertainties like gun abuse and terrorism. Freedom from ideas discourages freedom of ideas, but offers an illusion of safety to the individual. Race relations have for generations been incredibly sensitive since the acceptance and expansion of slavery in the 16th century. The ownership of another person due to their skin color is not ethical in today s society and due to the overall lack of action taken to undo said actions, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Roughly 60% of these hosts are located in the United States. About 40 million people used the Internet at the time of trial, a number that expected to mushroom to 200 million by 2000. • 34. The Theme Of The Taming Of The Shrew By William Shakespeare Love and friendship, sadness and pain, birth and death all are proven to be constants throughout history. Even as centuries go by and cultures evolve or diminish, there will be concepts that never die out; ideas that are everlasting in time. One, who proved this, is William Shakespeare. His pieces were first created in the late 1500s; nonetheless, his writing is still relevant even today, almost 5 centuries later. In Greenway s school play, the setting was moved to the 1970s, yet the play s aroma withstood the changes. Therefore, changing the context of one of his plays, such as The Taming of the Shrew, minimally effects the appeals which can be seen through the consistency of the audience, his unfading persona, and universal message. Changing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One message of the play is that love is an addiction. In the original play set in the 16th century, various individuals seek love from another; the same is true in Greenway s adaptation. In both, the characters fantasize and attempt the most ridiculous ways to steal the heart of their true love . Although the adaptation is set centuries later, it stays true to the message by incorporating these fanatics which allows the message to live on. Shakespeare developed his plays in a way that could be recreated for centuries; he made his ideas to be relevant for the present and the future. Thus, if the message was no longer present in Greenway s play, then the entire play would have to be different. In that case, it is not a Shakespeare play if the drama is gone: it s just a boring play. Then again, one could see how the message is slightly altered. Love during the 1500s differs from love in the 1970s due to arranged marriages being popular in the past. In the 1500 1600s, love could often referred to marriage, but in the 1970s love meant to have a deep affection for another. With all considered, the message is altered due to the understanding of love from the different time periods. Still, the message stays relatively close. As we all know, for many companies, the most important tax decision to make is whether to elect to be treated under the provisions of sub chapter S of the Internal Revenue Code, or not. This decision mainly depends on your company s situation, and on analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of choosing to be treated as an S Corporation. Generally, an S corporationdoes not pay corporate level tax, as C corporations do. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The excess of loss can be carried back to prior years, or forward to later years. If the S corporation did not distribute income to shareholders, the shareholders would still be responsible to pay taxes on the income, according to their shares in the corporation. Also, an S corporation also has no corporate alternative minimum tax (AMT) liability, and they are subject to an accumulated earnings tax that applies to corporations that do not distribute their earnings, but it might affect the shareholders individual AMT liability. In an S corporation, shareholders receive a step up (or step down) in the basis of their stock, based on the earnings they obtain each year, which reduces the shareholder s tax liability when the shares are sold. The step up in basis helps reduce the net income subject to capital gain tax; when the shareholder receives distributed income that was taxed previously to him/her, the stock basis should be reduced. Also, any time the corporation suffers a net operating loss, the shareholder must reduce the basis of their stock to reflect the amount of loss passed through to them for their individual tax return. For example, unexpressed and unresolved memories and emotions that are stored within the subconscious mind can function as negative, limiting filters and lead to chronic anxiety, phobias, depression, addictions, and low self esteem (The Fear and Anxiety Solution). • 40. Galileo versus the Catholic Church Letters on the Solar Spots was made public in 1613. Copernicus s theory was openly discussed in this letter (Galilei and Drake, 145). Copernicus proposed than an axis revolving Earth circumnavigated around the heart of the universe, the Sun (Andrade, 120). Father Lorini, a Dominican friar and professor of ecclesiastical history in Florence, was among the first to criticize Galileo for his Copernican views (Linder). The Copernican theory contravened the belief of the Holy Scripture that the Earth was in the middle of the universe (Andrade, 125). Lorini used Joshua 10:13 and Isaiah 40:22 as support. Joshua 10:13 states that So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven . Isaiah 40:22 talks about the heavens stretched out as a curtain above the circle of the earth (Linder). Galileo s Letter to Castelli in December of 1613 was a reply to the condemnation he received due to his beliefs about the Copernicus theory. Galileo proposed in the letter that certain things in the Scripture were not to be taken literally. This letter only increased the amount of criticism towards Galileo (Andrade, 125). Father Lorini then took the drastic step of getting the Catholic Church involved. Lorini sent an altered copy of Letter to Castelli to the Roman Inquisition. Lorini altered the text of the letter to make it appear that Galileo directly pronounced the Scriptures as false. Lorini was not the only enemy of Galileo however. Analysis Intro and background info: For this lab, we tried to find out whether 10 minutes of chewing bubblegum would increase or decrease the mass of the bubble gum. The mass of the bubblegum might increase, because we are adding saliva to it, or decrease, because we are breaking the ingredients in the gum down. Problem question: Our problem question was, How does the amount of time chewing affect the mass of the bubblegum? Research: When we chew something, we break down the piece we are chewing into smaller pieces, making what we are chewing easier to digest.
