Slave Rebellions
Slave owners had the right to beat, whip, brand, or imprison slaves for petty offenses or for attempted
escape. Owners vied with each other in creating imaginative punishments, as historian Kenneth M.
Stampp relates: A Maryland tobacco grower forced a hand [slave] to eat the worms he failed to pick
off tobacco leaves. A Mississippian gave a runaway a wretched time by requiring him to sit at the table
and eat his evening meal with the white family. A Louisiana planter humiliated disobedient male field
hands by giving them women s work such as washing clothes, by dressing them in women s clothing,
and by exhibiting them on a scaffold wearing a red flannel cap (Streissguth 13). How did slaves react
to the cruel treatment of slave owners? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How To Visit Central America
If I could visit three countries in Central America I would visit Belize, Costa Rica and Honduras.I
would like to visit these countries because these countries are very fascinating with very beautiful and
extraordinary sights to behold. These places have a ton of destinations with lots of history. These
countries also have different and interesting cultures.
The first country I would visit is Belize. The capital of Belize is Belmopan. One of the major cities in
Belize is San Ignacio. San Ignacio serves as the cultural economic hub of Cayo District. Belize also
has beautiful destinations within the country such as Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary and Belize
Barrier Reef. The Belize Barrier Reef is a series of coral reefs straddling the coast of Belize. The

An Analysis Of An Extract From The Parisian Gentleman

instance only looking to old money and aristocrats. Jacomet gives key points and accurate references
to certain codes used by them. The introduction is a clear declaration of intentions and prepares the
reader to a quick lesson in aristocratic attire. Gesell guide highlights fourteen areas to help the reader

Suggest to the reader that is better to wear something worn rather than a flamboyant new piece of
clothing. He also remarks on use the clothing as much one can; therefore we understand that is better
to invest in something lasting rather than the trendy item. Gesell, suggests that the fact of inheriting
clothes is a good thing, except of course underwear. When selecting fibres he points out that we must
use only natural fibres, which suggests to the reader that the fact of choosing those specific fibres
added to the fact of inheriting clothes will help to create a timeless look. Gesell is not constant with
the advices given which suggests that the reader should already have a sense of style and most
important, common sense when dressing. He also remarks that wearing overly trendy pieces will make
the overall look and intention the opposite as intended.
In conclusion, this guide is after all guidance for all those men who enjoy dressing up and have a keen
interest in men s fashions. The topics being discussed in this piece have more to see with the
perceptions that others have towards clothing. This guide is not to be followed word by word, as

Foolishness And Foolishness In Shakespeare s Twelfth Night
As eloquently stated by the prolific author Søren Kierkegaard, There are two ways to be fooled. One is
to believe what isn t true; the other is to refuse to believe what is true. Shakespeare s comedy Twelfth
Night features many fools , those led by the nose through desire and other means, and those who
turned away from the truth. Of all those fools, one stands out from the others Malvolio, a steward who
chases his mistress, Olivia. As a man who flaunts his foolishness through his gullibility and
dependency on fabricated truths, Malvolio proves to be the most foolish character, contributing to
Shakespeare s message that foolishness is not simply what meets the eye.
At the onset, Malvolio makes one of the most foolish characters due to ... Show more content on

The most foolish of people manage to be fooled, not only by others, but themselves as well; and
Malvolio gets ahead of himself and unwisely chases after impossible ambitions, establishing himself
as one of the most foolish characters in the play. Upon receiving Maria s letter, Malvolio reads closely
to what he believes is his mistress words of love, and when reading the name of his lady s loved one,
he sees a cryptic series of letters, and instantly questions If I could make that/ resemble something in
me , before realizing its similarities to his own name (II.v.123 124). Malvolio reads a series of letters,
seemingly standing for the name of Olivia s target of romantic interest, and he tries to find his own
name hidden in the letters immediately. Without thinking it through, Malvolio leaps at an opportunity,
instantly seduced by the idea of success in society and living his days out as a count at Olivia s side,
happily wedded. Blinded by ambition and almost desperate for his mistress heart, Malvolio makes a
fool of himself once again, and unlike other characters, he becomes inconsiderate of his place in
society, becoming arrogant at the excuse. By the same token, he is convinced that the letter is true, and
that Olivia drives [Malvolio] to these habits of her liking... and Malvolio swears that he will be

Essay On Pollution In Textile Mill
Research
Pollution
Most processes performed in textile mills produce atmospheric emissions. Gaseous emissions have
been identified as the second greatest pollution problem (after effluent quality) for the textile industry.
Speculation concerning the amounts and types of air pollutants emitted from textile operations has
been widespread but, generally, air emission data for textile manufacturing operations are not readily
available. Air pollution is the most difficult type of pollution to sample, test, and quantify in an audit.
Air emissions can be classified according to the nature of their sources:
Point sources:
Boilers
Ovens
Storage tanks
Diffusive:
Solvent based
Wastewater treatment
Warehouses
Spills
Textile mills usually generate nitrogen and sulphur oxides from boilers. Other significant sources of
air emissions in textile operations include resin finishing and drying operations, printing, dyeing,
fabric preparation, and wastewater treatment plants. Hydrocarbons are emitted from drying ovens and
from mineral oils in high temperature drying/curing. These processes can emit formaldehyde, acids,
softeners, and other volatile compounds.
Residues from fibre preparation sometimes emit pollutants during heat setting processes. Carriers and
solvents may be emitted during dyeing operations depending on the types of dyeing processes used
and from wastewater treatment plant operations. Carriers used in batch dyeing of disperse dyes may
lead to

Abstract
The spotted owl was seen as a symbol of all things environmental during the late 1980 s and early
1990 s. The logging industry was well on its way to destroying most of the old growth forests of the
Pacific Northwest. Environmentalists swarmed the area, sabotaging logging efforts and calling ...

Many people have wondered why this insignificant owl gets more press than the decimation of salmon
streams nationwide, when it would have no economic impact on our society as a whole.
The logging industry has made millions of dollars from the harvesting of old growth lumber over the
past several decades. Recently, they have become more responsible about clear cut logging. Harvested
forests are often replanted to provide for future wildlife habitat and logging efforts. However, this
doesn t help the spotted owl. It needs old growth forests with their tangle of massive trees and thick
dense brush. The logging industry is threatened by this small owl. Thousands of jobs have been lost.
Families are starving. Lumber prices have skyrocketed.
So this sets up a struggle. Loggers need the lumber for economic prosperity. Environmentalists want
to protect this owl. How will both parties win? Can both parties win? There are many issues that arise
out of this conflict. The public needs cost efficient lumber. The loggers need their jobs. The spotted
owl needs a home.
One of the largest concerns, dealing with the spotted owl / forest industry debate, is the loss of jobs.
There were 21,000 jobs lost during the time that this debate took place (Ross, 1999). The amount of
job losses in the logging and milling industry at this time were not solely attributed to the spotted owl
controversy. The downward trend in the timber harvest

Commanders And Their Subordinate Joint Force Commanders
Combatant Commanders and their subordinate Joint Force Commanders (JFCs) in response to
contingencies and crises use joint operation planning that transforms national strategic objectives into
joint military operations. In order to describe ways and means to achieve desired ends, and develop
plans and orders, the commanders use operational art, operational design, and the Joint Operational
Planning Process. However, identifying the correct problem commanders are facing is crucial for all
further planning and actions, and operational design will help them develop operational approach.
Operational design is the process that helps commanders frame and understand the problem , and it

Moreover, in operational design, analysis of both adversary and friendly COGs is the key step
providing commander and its staff the way to effectively attack adversary s COGs while protecting
friendly ones. The analysis process must be detailed since a faulty conclusion can have serious
consequences and bring the inability to achieve friendly objectives at an acceptable cost. Identification
of correct COGs and understanding their relationship brings precision to operational design where
planners can successfully apply critical factors analysis to analyze COG s critical capabilities,
requirements, and vulnerabilities. Out of these three critical factors, the commander will focus its
effort to attack vulnerabilities that will produce the most decisive damage to an adversary s COG.
Nevertheless, before COGs are implemented into the plan, they must be validated because attacking
them will cause a change in adversary s course of action (COA) or prevent it from achieving its
objective. Moreover, COGs and their critical vulnerabilities are subject to change during the operation
at any time. Therefore, the commander and its staff must adapt to the changing circumstances during
the operation and adjust their plans and operations accordingly as adversary s COGs and their critical
factors change. Once the COG is defined, the commander can select the approach deciding to attack it
directly or indirectly to achieve its objective. The direct

The Impact Of Traditional Sms And Ott Messaging
The first section of this essay covered the SMS technology and the differences between traditional
SMS and OTT messaging, this section is covering two theories on technological change; the
technology S curve and the dominant design in relation to the SMS technology.
Technology S curve A technology s curve is a theory of innovation, it is based in the lifecycle of a
technology, from the initial phase, where the technology is completely new, rather unused, to the point
where a major breakthrough occurs and the technology is widely used and accepted, the maturity
process, where the technology is vulnerable to competitors and new technologies that end up replacing

messages related to the voicemail, in the late 90 s personal SMS messaging was available, but only
between users belonging to the same network, which heavily limited its use.
The second stage of the technology s curve, growth, can be establish after 1999, when mobile
operators collectively agrees to allow users to send SMS to users of other operators (bbc), this was a
major breakthrough, the number of messages grew considerably in the next few years, the prices of
handsets became more affordable amongst young users. Nokia recently became the biggest mobile
phone maker selling more than 285 million units (link nokia), Nokia technology allowed the transfer
of ringtones, pictures and backgrounds via SMS. Third Party providers began selling the latest
ringtones; this was a success amongst young users, the price used to range $1.5 $3 per ringtone, an
article in the New Yorker states that the global sales of ringtones in 2004 exceeded 4 billion dollars.

Every Day I Fight, By Larry Platt
Nearly 14.5 million Americans have had a history stint with some type of cancer and were still alive
on January 1, 2014(American Cancer Society, 2016). There will be an estimated 1,685,210 new cancer
cases and 595, 590 deaths in 2016 attibuted to caner in the U.S. (American Cancer Society,2016 )
Those astonishing numbers do not even account for the cancer patients family and friends whose lives
are also affected this horrific disease. In order to get a glimpse of what a cancer patient has to go
though, I decided to read Stuart Scott s memoir, Every Day I Fight, by Larry Platt. He is an ESPN

He had to have an emergency appendectomy, consequently when they removed his appendix he was
diagnosed Appendiceal Cancer. The first thing that came to his mind when he was told he had cancer
was, Platt (2015) I m going to die, and I won t be here for my daughters (p. 156). That pity party
ended quickly, because he knew that he had to be strong for his daughters. They were his inspiration to
fight. After the initial shock wore off, he began to scour the Internet in search of information on his
rare form of caner. The more that he read the stories and looked at the statistics, the more this disease
ate at him. From that day forth he vowed to never go searching for information again. He asked his
doctors never to tell him what stage he had, how long they estimated he would live, or what
percentage chance he had to beat cancer. Stuart wanted to continue to live his life the way he has
always done. He was going to give 110% effort to beat this disease, just like he did with everything
else. There were tons of inspiring quotes in this book but this was one of my favorites, Platt (2015).

Women In The Canterbury Tales
During the middle ages, women were abiding to their husbands. Women didn t have power but are
treated as an object. Women take care of the house and bear a child. Men have power and are in
charge of the relationships. In The Canterbury Tales the Wife of Bath sets as a counter of women in
the middle ages.
The Wife of Bath is liked by Chaucer because she is distinctive. Her distinctive traits make her
appealing and memorable. The Wife of Bath got married 5 times. During the middle age, women
commonly get married once. Unlike the women of the middle age the Wife of Bath acquired power. I
never would abide in bed with them if hands began to slide till they had promised ransom, paid a fee:
and then I let them do their nicety. (Pg 269) By making

Education Is Important For A Nation s Most Populous City...
Education plays a significant role in contributing to Auckland s perception and engagement with
Waitangi Day. Within the wider context of New Zealand, Auckland is the nation s most populous city
with a wide demographic of multicultural individuals. With significant external immigration to the
city, future growth is to be expected. Therefore, it is important for the topic of Waitangi education to
be investigated, to ensure that systems are put in place for future pupils that will go through the New
Zealand schooling system, to ensure that they are accurately taught about the Treaty of Waitangi, and
that there a resources and systems put in place to accommodate for individuals who arrive in New
Zealand at an age that does not require schooling.
A review of the literature revealed that many individuals do not consider the teaching of the Treaty to
be significant. We believe that it is important for Aucklanders to be educated about what the treaty
means, why we as a nation should celebrate it, and how the treaty agreement was broken. Some key
benefits of being educated about the Treaty of Waitangi include, and are not limited to:
1. Helping us to shape and understand our cultural identity
2. Understanding previous and current agreements of our nation
3. Moving New Zealand forward in a progressive manner from what we have learnt about our past
New Zealanders and immigrants, who received treaty education, may feel a sense of belongingness
and connection to our past history.

The Accidental Billionaires By Ben Mezrich
Facebook was created in 2004 on the Harvard University Campus by one of its own students: Mark
Zuckerberg. First restricted to students of Harvard s University, it is then opened to other American
universities before becoming accessible to all by September 2006. Since June 2015, 1.49 billion of
people are registered on this website. This social network is now part of everyday life for nearly one
fifth of the world population, it has redefined how we connect and communicate in the 21st century. It
is therefore normal that a movie was devoted to its creation and expansion. David Fincher, based on
the book by Ben Mezrich, The Accidental Billionaires , directed the movie.

Returning into his room Mark sees his friend, Eduardo Saverin and tells him the idea of a project
called The Facebook , a social network site exclusively for Harvard students. He says it could boost
the popularity of Facemash. When the site is launched, the Winklevoss twins and their partner and
friend Narendra, are convinced Zuckerberg stole their idea. They want to sue Mark in justice.
The story, a fiction but based on a true story, is made of flashbacks, and in parallel shows the
development of Facebook and the two trials that oppose Mark Zuckerberg, firstly to the Winklevoss
twins, and secondly to Eduardo. This film emphasizes the creation of this start up that is Facebook,
with its successes and failures. We are going to discuss the beginning of Facebook as an innovative
start up, the role of Mark s different partners: Eduardo Saverin and Sean Parker in the development of
the website, and the depositions and testimony over the ownership and business dealing with various
lawsuits of Facebook from the Winklevoss twins.
A start up is a young company with high growth potential and which requires mostly a fundraiser.
That is what Facebook and the film is about, a brilliant idea, made possible by Mark Zuckerberg and a
fundraiser of $1,000. At the beginning Mark created Facemash to get over his break up with his
girlfriend, but it proved to be a smart concept. Shortly after

Hydrochloric acid is a very strong acid and it can digest any that contact with it. At high temperature,
hydrochloric acid can act as chemical enzyme which can hydrolyses polysaccharide. Hydrochloric
acid can break down solution B and starch which are polysaccharide to their respective
monosaccharide. Temperatures may have affect the substances such as solutions A and B, saliva, and
hydrochloric acid. Saliva is a type of biological enzyme needs an optimum temperature of 37°C to
carry out high activity. High temperature causes amylase to become denatured, and the shape of the
active site changes, because the bonds in the enzymes are broken because of the heat energy gained to
brak the bond. When an enzyme is denatured, it cannot function, hence , no catalyse biological
reaction. When solution B is under high temperature, solution B gains heat, which is converted to
kinetic energy. Solution B thus have high kinetic energy, and its easier to be catalyzed because the
activation energy is achieved easily. Because it has high kinetic energy, the solution can be catalyzed
by the hydrochloric acid.
The product that formed after hydrolysed is broken to monosaccharide which are glucose molecules.
This is because glucose is a type of reducing sugar that can turns Benedict s solution from blue to
brick red precipitate. Starch and glucose are consider as carbohydrate . Figure below shows

In the Photo Essay Reviews by Zeynep Dervrim Gursel and Alan Klima, one of the main points, was
to point out what Hoffman tended to do in his photo essay, which was show how mining shaped the

what a photo essay is, which is defined as collections of images, narrative in which visual essay
elements create themes and dialogues (Gursel et Klima). However, Hoffman lacks these elements in

Then they point out the lack of description could confuse the readers/ viewers, because they don t
know whether to read the images from left to right or vice versa. This analysis is a strong argument,
because it is very important when doing a photo essay to be concise and clear as possible so that the
readers/ viewers would not be confused as to what the writer is trying to convey or show them. It is
also important to show a chronological order. Another strong argument is when they make note that
Hoffman doesn t explicitly mention about race. However, a photo essay as a mode of Ethnography
require gaze. Which implies that physical appearance need to be describe since the gaze revolved
around the bodies. Moreover, the comments on the body scar and how to differentiate between the

by an audio interview. It is true just simply gazing at the body, the scar cannot convey the information
to the gazers. Therefore, a communication needs to occur between the gazers and participants to get
the full story of the person. Overall, they seem to pose questions a lot, each time they formulate an
argument. This is remarkable, because it makes their arguments stronger. They also compare between
the photo essay with other works done by Hoffman or by different authors. This indicate that he done

Byke Essay
To encourage a greater bike mode share, our solution is to create an app called Bykes that would be
used as an aide to bikers whenever they wanted to plan bike trips and ride along routes. The main
feature of the app is that it will route bike riders from their origin to their destination while keeping
them on designated bike lanes and trails as much as possible. The service will ask each user what their
comfort level is before the route is chosen, and then the algorithm will choose a path that best reflects
this comfort level. With a more experienced biker, the service will route them on a more direct path,
but that path might include roads that have a higher traffic volume or roads that lack dedicated bike
lanes. The more experienced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This will allow the roads to be rated on actual users experiences and allow for iteration of the quality
of these roads over time. The comfort rating will be dynamic instead of static. In addition to this
survey, users can also input the location of specific hazards along bike routes. This includes hazards
such as potholes or obstacles in the path, a rough pavement condition, construction, and more.
Construction was one of the more prominent issues that arose in our Google Form survey, which
makes sense because construction normally occurs at the edges of the roadway, which is where bike
lanes are often located. An example of this is seen in Figure 3. Figure 3: Construction blocking a bike
lane (Gatoona 2012). It s important to take these obstacles into account when routing bikers, because
the hazards will often cause the riders to swerve into traffic, which will not provide for a safe and
comfortable biking experience. Sources of Data Initially, the roads will need to be evaluated for their
comfort levels so they can be properly matched with bikers that need a certain minimum comfort
level. Two methods can be used to assist in this evaluation: Bike Level of Service (BLOS) and Level
of Traffic Stress (LTS). These are two different ways of quantifying the comfort levels of the roads for
bikers. They include variables such as vehicle volumes, speed

nursing homes work within clearly set boundaries of law and standards of medical practices;
Therefore they are only so flexible with the patients, doing their best most times to make sure that
everyone is treated fairly by following required guidelines. Even at that, once in a while, there are
instants where things do not go as planned and some residents get abused. Mainly because the people
that work in close collaboration with the residents are not always a good fit for the position; Reason

Where there is little or no public opinion, there is likely to be bad government, which sooner or later
becomes autocratic government (William Lyon Mackenzie King). In 1793, Maximilien Robespierre,
head of the Committee of Public Safety, took over the unmanned French government. His ruling
consisted of killing anyone that thought of enlightenment ideals or ill of him. Running as a dictator for

Robespierre s idea of killing all traitors and enlightenment idealists. When one does not commit to

receiving the perks of being a citizen. Robespierre tried to make the country united in thinking, but
when civilians didn t agree with his ideas, he simply killed them, which is inhumane and unjustified in
almost any case. Killing people doesn t solve any problems as more people will take their place.
Robespierre didn t understand the gruesome immorality of killing as 16,000 people were guillotined

A Brief Note On The World Of Greece And Iceland
Bucket List:
What on My Bucket List Most people live busy all the time by doing something in their lives. So,
what do they live for? Indeed, are we living in a dream? Most people would be answer No. Therefore,
we truly need to live the way we really want to do before we die. Thus, I realize, I should do that what
I want to do in my life. For this reason, I made a bucket list with three categories: personal, academic,
and professional. The first thing on my personal bucket list is to travel to Europe, but above all, I want
to go to Greece and Iceland. One day, I watched a Korean reality travel program Youth over Flowers,
which showed young people backpacking with little money. Therefore, I thought that was how youth
should be. Since then, I have been wanting to go to Greece and Iceland by myself. If I could go there,
I would like to go to Santorini Island in Greece, which is the most beautiful place I have seen on TV,
and it looks peaceful with a blue ocean. Salome M. Krell and David Farrell describe Santorini as an
unforgettable beauty when they say, I . . . have fallen in love with this spellbinding place (3). For this
reason, I would like to go Santorini, and I would like to drink wine on the terrace overlooking the sea;
I will feel relaxed and free. Then, I would like to visit Iceland. Iceland is one of the best places to view
the northern lights, although it is hard to see aurora because of the clouds and weather. The authors of

John Cage Research Paper
John Cage is a controversial composer. Some may say he revolutionized music composition and
changed music history of the 20th century, yet others do not even acknowledge his compositional
contributions as music. I believe John Cage was a brilliant artist, and his works push the boundaries of
both sound and music to create a genre of his own by using the elements of silence and chance.
Through his compositional development, one can track his changing music philosophy as it grew from
a limited notion of silence, to the enjoyment of the element of chance, to a redefined meaning of
silence that reaches beyond the grasp of most innovators still today. In a recording of Cage s piece
Seven2 one can hear a landscape created through sporadic sound. ... Show more content on

The Juilliard Journal referred to John Cage s compositional experimentation as transforming a familiar
instrument into something enticingly alien. Cage began experimenting with instruments early in his
musical career by first altering pianos with metal plates and screws before playing them. In the 1960 s
Cage began a new movement appropriately titled found Sound. ( John Cage: About the Composer ).
He used unconventional instruments such as handheld radios, water, and sea shells. He was pushing
the boundaries of music by claiming that sound is a form of music. The randomness of it added an
element of chance to these experiments, some recordings could never be duplicated. What makes the
music of John Cage easily recognizable is it s unpredictability. The two well known pieces employing
chance operations are Imaginary Landscape No 4″ and Water Music. While I personally find these
pieces hard to listen to, Cage s philosophy regarding the role of chance within music is an important
development in the world of music history, for it led to him furthering the definition of music. Music
doesn t have to be written and replicated specifically for it to be considered a fully composed and
developed work. Imaginary Landscape No 4, consisting of twelve radios played at once sounds
different every time based on the broadcasts playing, yet it is still a fully developed musical

Vertigo Themes
Film Analysis 1: The Power of Vertigo I remember watching Vertigo for the first time back when I
was still very young, but at the time, I didn t really understand anything about the movie. As I watched
it again as I grew older, I learned to appreciate how great this movie really is and the special narrative
style that the movie presented. Vertigo, to me, was always known as Alfred Hitchcock s best film.
Most of Hitchcock s well known films like Psycho or North by Northwest have unique title sequences
that were an important part of their respective themes and narratives. For Vertigo s title sequence, it
starts with an extreme close up of a woman s lips, which suggests the foreshadowing of Judy s role in
the movie. The intro then shifts to the person s eyes, while the eyes, referencing the idea of looking
and watching like what Scottie will do for the most part of the movie. Visual motifs were presented
during this sequence such as the spinning spiral patters. These were motifs that are carried through
into the narrative.
The film is about John Scottie Ferguson, a detective who suffers from acrophobia, which is probably
the reason for the title Vertigo . He has guilt complex over what happened in the beginning of the
movie when the police officer fell off and died. When he accepts to watch over his friend s suicidal
wife for his final job, he madly falls in love with her . Later on in the movie, Scottie tries to save
Madeleine from falling off a steeple, but was

Timothy Webster And The American Civil War
In his career, Timothy Webster served as a New York City policeman in the earliest days of the
department, worked as a private detective in the most famous private detective agency ever, acted as a
Union spy during the American Civil War, and generally lived a life of adventure and daring. There is
no telling what Webster would have accomplished had his life not been cut short.
Timothy Webster Jr. was born on March 22, 1822, in Newhaven, Sussex County, England, the fourth
of eleven children born to Timothy and Frances Webster. Two of the children died in infancy and one
at the age of two. The Websters immigrated to the United States in 1830 and settled in Princeton, New
Jersey. Timothy was eight.
For a time Webster s life was typical enough. At nineteen he married twenty three year old Charlotte
Sprowls. A year later their first child, a son, was born. They would have four children in all.
Sometime in the 1840s they moved to New York City and Timothy, now with a family to support,
embarked on a career in law enforcement, joining the city s then fledgling police force.
Before 1845, the force was simply too small for the large metropolis. The Municipal Police Act,
signed into law in 1845, set up a larger department, based on London s department. It laid the
foundation for the modern New York Police Department.
In 1853, Webster was assigned to work at the Crystal Palace exhibition, which became known as
America s first world s fair. It was while he was policing

Banquo s Influence On Macbeth
Sometimes a thunder god can help out a mischief god. Often times throughout history and ancient
mythology, a person viewed as evil has a counter part that is viewed as good. For example, Thor, the
Norse god of weather/thunder was considered to be a good guy. However, his brother Loki, the Norse
god of mischief, was considered to be a bad guy. Thor had to help keep his brother in line throughout
their childhood because if he did not, Loki would get in trouble. Loki would go around playing tricks
on the other gods and their children. He loved making himself laugh as well as making others laugh.
However, sometimes he pushed things too far. In Shakespeare s The Tragedy of Macbeth, Banquo and
Macbeth share some qualities with Thor and Loki. Thor tried to help Loki just like Banquo tries to
help Macbeth. Banquo is a person that is seen as a leader because of his level headedness, just like
Thor was a leader among the Norse gods. Like Loki, Macbeth pushes things too far. He commits
multiple murders and lies through his teeth countless times. He even has his friend Banquo killed.

However, this is wrong. Yes, since Banquo has died there is one less person to question Macbeth s
doings. This may make some readers think that Macbeth will be that much closer to getting away with
what he has done, but this is false. Since Banquo s death, all Macbeth can think about is how he had
his friend murdered. He even sees Banquo s ghost and has a little fit in front of a lot of people. Seeing
Banquo s ghost has made Macbeth paranoid and question everything he does. He is not as confident as
he used to be. It is obvious that Banquo still has an impact on Macbeth even after he has died because
of the fact that Macbeth cannot stop thinking about Banquo s

Shakespeare s comedy Twelfth Night features many fools , those led by the nose through desire and other means, and those who turned away from the truth. Of all those fools, one stands out from the others Malvolio, a steward who chases his mistress, Olivia. As a man who flaunts his foolishness through his gullibility and dependency on fabricated truths, Malvolio proves to be the most foolish character, contributing to Shakespeare s message that foolishness is not simply what meets the eye. • 9. Essay On Pollution In Textile Mill Research Pollution Most processes performed in textile mills produce atmospheric emissions. Gaseous emissions have been identified as the second greatest pollution problem (after effluent quality) for the textile industry. Speculation concerning the amounts and types of air pollutants emitted from textile operations has been widespread but, generally, air emission data for textile manufacturing operations are not readily available. Air pollution is the most difficult type of pollution to sample, test, and quantify in an audit. Air emissions can be classified according to the nature of their sources: Point sources: Boilers Ovens Storage tanks Diffusive: Solvent based Wastewater treatment Warehouses Spills Textile mills usually generate nitrogen and sulphur oxides from boilers. Other significant sources of air emissions in textile operations include resin finishing and drying operations, printing, dyeing, fabric preparation, and wastewater treatment plants. Hydrocarbons are emitted from drying ovens and from mineral oils in high temperature drying/curing. These processes can emit formaldehyde, acids, softeners, and other volatile compounds. Residues from fibre preparation sometimes emit pollutants during heat setting processes. Many people have wondered why this insignificant owl gets more press than the decimation of salmon streams nationwide, when it would have no economic impact on our society as a whole. The logging industry has made millions of dollars from the harvesting of old growth lumber over the past several decades. Recently, they have become more responsible about clear cut logging. Harvested forests are often replanted to provide for future wildlife habitat and logging efforts. However, this doesn t help the spotted owl. It needs old growth forests with their tangle of massive trees and thick dense brush. The logging industry is threatened by this small owl. Thousands of jobs have been lost. Families are starving. Lumber prices have skyrocketed. So this sets up a struggle. Loggers need the lumber for economic prosperity. Environmentalists want to protect this owl. How will both parties win? Can both parties win? There are many issues that arise out of this conflict. The public needs cost efficient lumber. The loggers need their jobs. The spotted owl needs a home. One of the largest concerns, dealing with the spotted owl / forest industry debate, is the loss of jobs. There were 21,000 jobs lost during the time that this debate took place (Ross, 1999). The amount of job losses in the logging and milling industry at this time were not solely attributed to the spotted owl controversy. The downward trend in the timber harvest

Hydrochloric acid is a very strong acid and it can digest any that contact with it. At high temperature, hydrochloric acid can act as chemical enzyme which can hydrolyses polysaccharide. Hydrochloric acid can break down solution B and starch which are polysaccharide to their respective monosaccharide. Temperatures may have affect the substances such as solutions A and B, saliva, and hydrochloric acid. Saliva is a type of biological enzyme needs an optimum temperature of 37°C to carry out high activity. High temperature causes amylase to become denatured, and the shape of the active site changes, because the bonds in the enzymes are broken because of the heat energy gained to brak the bond. When an enzyme is denatured, it cannot function, hence , no catalyse biological reaction. When solution B is under high temperature, solution B gains heat, which is converted to kinetic energy. Solution B thus have high kinetic energy, and its easier to be catalyzed because the activation energy is achieved easily. Because it has high kinetic energy, the solution can be catalyzed by the hydrochloric acid.

Sources of Data Initially, the roads will need to be evaluated for their comfort levels so they can be properly matched with bikers that need a certain minimum comfort level. Two methods can be used to assist in this evaluation: Bike Level of Service (BLOS) and Level of Traffic Stress (LTS). These are two different ways of quantifying the comfort levels of the roads for bikers. They include variables such as vehicle volumes, speed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Given the giving philosophies of Peter Singer, Paul Streeten, and Amartya Sen, each author would address the focus of their support differently to provide solutions. Singer, takes a utilitarian approach and would focus on saving the most number of lives immediately, primarily disregarding the quality of the solution. Thus, he would aim towards increasing food and medicinal distribution to ensure the highest quantity of lives are saved. For Singer, all individuals are on equal grounds and he focuses on methods that will save the largest amount of people. • 32. Why Nursing Home What would I want from a nursing home if I were to become a resident? To begin with, I realize that nursing homes work within clearly set boundaries of law and standards of medical practices; Therefore they are only so flexible with the patients, doing their best most times to make sure that everyone is treated fairly by following required guidelines. Even at that, once in a while, there are instants where things do not go as planned and some residents get abused. Mainly because the people that work in close collaboration with the residents are not always a good fit for the position; Reason being some are underpaid and just don t care about the patients or their jobs, some others are just mean and should not be allowed to work with such a vulnerable population. Compare And Contrast The Reign Of Terror Dbq Will Regan 10/26/15 Dr. Carroll DBQ 1 Where there is little or no public opinion, there is likely to be bad government, which sooner or later becomes autocratic government (William Lyon Mackenzie King). In 1793, Maximilien Robespierre, head of the Committee of Public Safety, took over the unmanned French government. His ruling consisted of killing anyone that thought of enlightenment ideals or ill of him. Running as a dictator for only less than a years worth of time, Robespierre caused the Reign of Terror, a time where around 40,000 individuals who were rather innocent were killed for having slightly different ... This declaration was a start to Robespierre s idea of killing all traitors and enlightenment idealists. When one does not commit to listening to the ideas of every person, problems and conflict emerge, thus his ideas did not end in rejoice. Robespierre also didn t recognize people that had other ideals as citizensa citizens in the Republic but the republicans (Document G). His quote means that conservatives will be the only ones receiving the perks of being a citizen. Robespierre tried to make the country united in thinking, but when civilians didn t agree with his ideas, he simply killed them, which is inhumane and unjustified in almost any case. Killing people doesn t solve any problems as more people will take their place. Robespierre didn t understand the gruesome immorality of killing as 16,000 people were guillotined during the Reign of Terror (Document F). • 34. A Brief Note On The World Of Greece And Iceland Bucket List: What on My Bucket List Most people live busy all the time by doing something in their lives. So, what do they live for? Indeed, are we living in a dream? Most people would be answer No. Therefore, we truly need to live the way we really want to do before we die. Thus, I realize, I should do that what I want to do in my life. For this reason, I made a bucket list with three categories: personal, academic, and professional. The first thing on my personal bucket list is to travel to Europe, but above all, I want to go to Greece and Iceland. One day, I watched a Korean reality travel program Youth over Flowers, which showed young people backpacking with little money. Therefore, I thought that was how youth should be. Since then, I have been wanting to go to Greece and Iceland by myself. If I could go there, I would like to go to Santorini Island in Greece, which is the most beautiful place I have seen on TV, and it looks peaceful with a blue ocean. Salome M. Krell and David Farrell describe Santorini as an unforgettable beauty when they say, I . . . have fallen in love with this spellbinding place (3). For this reason, I would like to go Santorini, and I would like to drink wine on the terrace overlooking the sea; I will feel relaxed and free. Then, I would like to visit Iceland. Iceland is one of the best places to view the northern lights, although it is hard to see aurora because of the clouds and weather. The authors of the article Magic in the ... • 35. John Cage Research Paper John Cage is a controversial composer. Some may say he revolutionized music composition and changed music history of the 20th century, yet others do not even acknowledge his compositional contributions as music. I believe John Cage was a brilliant artist, and his works push the boundaries of both sound and music to create a genre of his own by using the elements of silence and chance. Through his compositional development, one can track his changing music philosophy as it grew from a limited notion of silence, to the enjoyment of the element of chance, to a redefined meaning of silence that reaches beyond the grasp of most innovators still today. In a recording of Cage s piece Seven2 one can hear a landscape created through sporadic sound. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Juilliard Journal referred to John Cage s compositional experimentation as transforming a familiar instrument into something enticingly alien. Cage began experimenting with instruments early in his musical career by first altering pianos with metal plates and screws before playing them. In the 1960 s Cage began a new movement appropriately titled found Sound. ( John Cage: About the Composer ). He used unconventional instruments such as handheld radios, water, and sea shells. He was pushing the boundaries of music by claiming that sound is a form of music. The randomness of it added an element of chance to these experiments, some recordings could never be duplicated. What makes the music of John Cage easily recognizable is it s unpredictability. The two well known pieces employing chance operations are Imaginary Landscape No 4″ and Water Music. While I personally find these pieces hard to listen to, Cage s philosophy regarding the role of chance within music is an important development in the world of music history, for it led to him furthering the definition of music. Music doesn t have to be written and replicated specifically for it to be considered a fully composed and developed work. Imaginary Landscape No 4, consisting of twelve radios played at once sounds different every time based on the broadcasts playing, yet it is still a fully developed musical ... • 36. Vertigo Themes Film Analysis 1: The Power of Vertigo I remember watching Vertigo for the first time back when I was still very young, but at the time, I didn t really understand anything about the movie. As I watched it again as I grew older, I learned to appreciate how great this movie really is and the special narrative style that the movie presented. Vertigo, to me, was always known as Alfred Hitchcock s best film. Most of Hitchcock s well known films like Psycho or North by Northwest have unique title sequences that were an important part of their respective themes and narratives. For Vertigo s title sequence, it starts with an extreme close up of a woman s lips, which suggests the foreshadowing of Judy s role in the movie. The intro then shifts to the person s eyes, while the eyes, referencing the idea of looking and watching like what Scottie will do for the most part of the movie. Visual motifs were presented during this sequence such as the spinning spiral patters. These were motifs that are carried through into the narrative. The film is about John Scottie Ferguson, a detective who suffers from acrophobia, which is probably the reason for the title Vertigo . He has guilt complex over what happened in the beginning of the movie when the police officer fell off and died. When he accepts to watch over his friend s suicidal wife for his final job, he madly falls in love with her . Later on in the movie, Scottie tries to save Madeleine from falling off a steeple, but was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Timothy Webster And The American Civil War In his career, Timothy Webster served as a New York City policeman in the earliest days of the department, worked as a private detective in the most famous private detective agency ever, acted as a Union spy during the American Civil War, and generally lived a life of adventure and daring. There is no telling what Webster would have accomplished had his life not been cut short. Timothy Webster Jr. was born on March 22, 1822, in Newhaven, Sussex County, England, the fourth of eleven children born to Timothy and Frances Webster. Two of the children died in infancy and one at the age of two. The Websters immigrated to the United States in 1830 and settled in Princeton, New Jersey. Timothy was eight. For a time Webster s life was typical enough. At nineteen he married twenty three year old Charlotte Sprowls. A year later their first child, a son, was born. They would have four children in all. Sometime in the 1840s they moved to New York City and Timothy, now with a family to support, embarked on a career in law enforcement, joining the city s then fledgling police force. Before 1845, the force was simply too small for the large metropolis. The Municipal Police Act, signed into law in 1845, set up a larger department, based on London s department. It laid the foundation for the modern New York Police Department. In 1853, Webster was assigned to work at the Crystal Palace exhibition, which became known as America s first world s fair. It was while he was policing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Banquo s Influence On Macbeth Sometimes a thunder god can help out a mischief god. Often times throughout history and ancient mythology, a person viewed as evil has a counter part that is viewed as good. For example, Thor, the Norse god of weather/thunder was considered to be a good guy. However, his brother Loki, the Norse god of mischief, was considered to be a bad guy. Thor had to help keep his brother in line throughout their childhood because if he did not, Loki would get in trouble. Loki would go around playing tricks on the other gods and their children. He loved making himself laugh as well as making others laugh. However, sometimes he pushed things too far. In Shakespeare s The Tragedy of Macbeth, Banquo and Macbeth share some qualities with Thor and Loki. Thor tried to help Loki just like Banquo tries to help Macbeth. Banquo is a person that is seen as a leader because of his level headedness, just like Thor was a leader among the Norse gods. Like Loki, Macbeth pushes things too far. He commits multiple murders and lies through his teeth countless times. He even has his friend Banquo killed. During Banquo s time on Earth, he tried to keep Macbeth in line. Yes, since Banquo has died there is one less person to question Macbeth s doings.
