A Brief Note On Grand Canyon University ( Gcu ) Program
Most companies in today s world want to make money in a way or another. The pursuit of this goal is
what define average companies and great companies. In a study, done by a group of Iowa State
professors, evidence was found for the Putnam thesis that companies that rely on the community that
became rich was because they were civic and not the other way around (Kilkenny, Nalbarte, Besser,
p231 1999). Grand Canyon University (GCU) has used this concept a lot, but there is a new avenue
that GCU must follow to continue its success. GCU s Canyon Christian Schools Consortium (CCSC)
program was built on this great concept of students being involved in the community. Yet this program
has devolved because of the basic law of diminishing returns. Thus GCU should add a CCSC option
that is service in the central Phoenix community because helping this community will improve the
school s image and will help the students in achieving GCU s goal for leaders while fixing the CCSC
program s numbers overflow problem.
The current CCSC programs are essentially falling into the law of diminishing returns. This law says
that at some point the size of the labor force a business will be greater than their demand which will
lead to mass inefficiency. The current CCSC program has three sections, first the parking detail,
second the Learning Lounge, and third ticket scanners. The place that the problem is seen most
blatantly is in the parking detail. Parking will have times where they have 60 or more

Similarities And Differences Between Two Life Maps
Maps are projections ; they usually represent a whole or part of an area on a flat surface. Maps
describe the relationship between the space and the specific features that the map aims to signify.
Mapmakers according to Klinghoffer, superimposes his own vision upon the world and show their
interests and proclivities in culture and politics while drawing their maps. In this essay, I will be
describing and explaining the similarities and differences between 2 life maps. The first map shows
the important spaces and objects, peoples and places in my life; the other map shows the same thing
but in my schoolmate life.
The similarities between our maps are few, for example we both included our homes and they took the
same amount of space, also they are the biggest objects on our maps, because it symbolize our ...

The differences between our maps is defiantly noticeable, starting from the overall colors of the maps,
were you can see that I drew a street and several buildings that took a big part of the map, that s why
dark colors like black and brown were dominating the map, while her map was more colorful, because
she added some natural attractions. In terms of locations, according to Klinghoffer, when a child draw
a map of his neighborhood, he egocentrically tends to place his own home near its center , and that s
what I saw in her map, where she located her home at the bottom center, while my home is at the
bottom left, the reason why is it on the left side, it is because in reality it is on the left the side of my
neighborhood. The distance between her house and Zayed University is small, since she lives in
Mohamed bin Zayed city, which is near to Zayed University, and since I live in new Shahama, my
map showed a clear big distance between my house and the university. Another difference is that she

Comparison Of Utopia And Anarchy
Jacquelyn Ramirez 9th English Summer school Writing proficiency The author should ve included the
reason as to why they re in a feud because the article sounds like Utopia and Anarchy are attacking
each other for no reason. In the quote Meanwhile, Utopian citizens marched against their own capital,
insisting that their demands be met , it seems as tho that information was thrown into the article
because that event was taken place during the battle between Utopia and Anarchy but their is no
explanation as to why the citizens are marching against their own capital. This would make it hard for
historians to note the reason as to why Utopia and anarchy weren t on good terms and why Utopia s
people were against their own government. A correlation from this passage includes the author saying
that by composting you could potentially decrease your grocery bill. I believe this is a correlation
because yes, you could compost and use it to fertilize your vegetable garden and not spend as much
money on food but just because you re saving the organic waste doesn t necessarily mean you ll save
money while grocery shopping. Spending less at a grocery store can be the result of many things like
couponing or changing your diet not because you decided to save a few banana peels. This poster is

Moral Injustice In Antigone
Antigone, a magnificent dramatic character, is a woman of courage whose actions and behavior are
completely understandable in the light of modern ideology. Although, she is more ordinary rather than
exceptional. Antigone is the daughter of Oedipus and sister to Eteocles and Polynices, she had been
leading a double life when her brothers Polynices and Eteocles harmed each other treacherously in a
dispute over the throne. It follows that, the person who refuses to follow orders will be sentenced to
death. It s says in Greek literature that women were only allowed to show conventional signs of
sorrows that indicate the death of a person, and to obey Creons orders. For this reason, those people
are obligated to obey Creon s law because they fear the consequences if they do not intend to do so.
From this point, Antigone recognizes that the law is unfair and decided to make uncompromising
decisions that will cost her life entirely by going against the king. Admittedly, Antigone s
manipulations will lead to complicated decisions and away from social obligations where she has to
sacrifice her life for an unjust law to correct it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Immediately, Tiresias responds guardedly, lamenting his ability to see the truth when it brings nothing
but pain. So far, he curses and insults the old man, going so far as to accuse him of the murder. Twice,
he accuses Creon and Tiresias of going against his life, and charges Tiresias with insanity. After
realizing that it was true he told Creon to send him away from Thebes. Antigone s actions of
challenging the government are character traits inherited from her father. After all, these traits are what
leads her to challenge and go against Creon. In the end, we can see that it turned out to be a positive
trait. By extension, this is because it helped Creon realize that he needed to be more flexible with his

Atlantic Cod Fishing
A fishery by definition, is the occupation, industry, or season of taking fish or other sea animals
(shrimp, squid, clams) and selling them for profit (Webster Dictionary). Atlantic Cod used to be
considered as one of the richest fisheries in the world. Atlantic Cod, scientifically known as,Gadus
morhua, are heavily bodied, blunt snouted fish that are typically brown or grayish in color with a
series of spots located on their bodies along with a pale lateral line. This species of fish have a
schooling behavior when feeding but remain isolated when traveling. The Atlantic Cod once densely
populated the waters of the Atlantic ocean, from Greenland to North Carolina. Despite the wide range

In Canada, the Grand Banks habitat is in environmental degradation (Connor and Taitano) due to
bottom trawlers tearing up the sea floor displacing and destroying the vegetation at the seafloor and
therefore disrupting the habitat of the small fish the cod prey upon (Connor and Taitano). Bottom
trawls also disrupt the breeding patterns of the cod.. Damaging fertilized eggs.. And greatly reducing
the amount of young born (Connor and Taitano). In the United States, the Gulf of Maine provides
evidence of a loss of the young and old cod due to predation (Connor). Farming atlantic cod, like
many fisheries are doing to replenish the atlantic salmon populations, have resulted in a breakout of
the disease Yersiniosis (Connor and Taitano). The disease affects the fish s intestinal tract before
spreading throughout its body. The mortality rate with this disease is low, about 5%, however the

This meant that ownership of a CD was still necessary, meaning sales did not drop significantly to
begin with. However the invention of MP3 players, allowing people to move files from their computer
on to a portable device meant this was no longer a problem for down loaders. Some sites have aimed
to provide a legal outlet for customers to download music, the most recognisable being Apple s iTunes
system. This has been an extremely successful venture for Apple, but has done little to prevent piracy.
Apple has also played their part in the way we purchase music. The International Federation of the
Phonographic Industry (IFPI) Digital Music report estimates that forty billion tracks were downloaded
in 2008. 95% of these tracks are estimated to have been downloaded illegally (IFPI Digital Music
Report 2009). While it is obvious that the music industry has almost gone completely digital and
people no longer place any real value in owning physical CDs, music listeners also avoid paying for
their downloaded copy of the songs they wish to own.
So what action, if any, is being taken to prevent internet users from effectively stealing music? So far

A Study On Preparing Titanium Metal Matrix Composites With...
I. INTRODUCTION Many engineering applications in the field of aerospace engineering,
automobiles, electronic equipment etc. require very light material with good mechanical properties.
Titanium based metal matrix composites with carbon nanotube reinforcement can be a solution for
such applications. It can satisfy the requirement of light weight with very good strength. This study
focuses on preparing titanium metal matrix composites with CNT reinforcements for various
compositions for its mechanical properties. Ti alloys have been widely used as structural materials in
aeronautical industries due to their attractive comprehensive properties, such as low density, high
strength, ductility, toughness and resistance to fatigue. Observations on the MA behaviour of CNT Ti
powder mixtures in this study showed that addition of CNTs alters the grinding behaviour of Ti
powders, which typically agglomerates in ball milling, and that the MA process itself is also affected
by the type of CNTs incorporated. While all types of the CNTs, namely SWCNTs, DWCNTs, and
MWCNTs, functioned as grinding aid preventing agglomeration of Ti particles, only the MWCNTs
seem to have uniformly embedded into the Ti particles whereas SWCNTs and DWCNTs were
supposedly not dispersed fully within the matrix. These variations in MA behavior, dependent on the
types of CNTs, are ascribed to the morphological characteristics of each CNT type such as overall
shape, number of carbon walls, and diameter, and specific

Gibbs Model Of Gynaecology
Introduction
In this assignment, I will be reflecting on my performance as a senior gynaecology registrar on how I
supported the GP (general practice) junior doctors that started working in my department. I will
examine and reflect on my plan of action for their smooth adaptation in the unit and the development
of the gynaecological emergency skills.
I will be using Gibbs (1998) model of reflection. I chose this framework as I found it helpful for
structuring my reflection thoughts.
I will approach Amabile and Kramer s Progress Theory (Using Small Wins to Enhance Motivation),
who wrote in detail about how progress can boost performance in their 2011 book, The Progress
Principle using 6 steps:

Essay On Antinuclear Antibody Nomenclature
Contemporary Issues on Antinuclear Antibody Nomenclature
Detection of ANA by IFA technique demonstrates binding to specific intracellular structures within the
cells resulting in a number of staining patterns that are usually categorized based on the
subcomponents recognized and degree of binding reflected by the fluorescent intensity or titer. The
provision of ANA pattern and titer is considered to be of added clinical value especially with respect
to other methods for their detection [1 3, 15, 21 29]. As mentioned above, the most commonly
recognized and reported patterns by clinical laboratories are those staining the nuclear region referred
to as homogeneous, speckled, centromere, and nucleolar [1, 2, 15 17]. With the use of HEp 2 cells ...

Despite the recognition that non nuclear patterns, cytoplasmic and mitotic are clinically relevant, no
consensus to report these as ANA negative or positive was reached. Central to this contention were the
implications for existing diagnostic/classification criteria for ANA associated diseases such as
autoimmune hepatitis [16, 31].
Assessment of Antinuclear Antibodies
Since the adoption of ANA as a routine clinical laboratory test, the techniques for their detection
and/or measurement have evolved and now encompass a variety of immunological methods [21 30].
IFA using HEp 2 cells is considered the gold standard method for detecting ANA with a number of
cons and pros [1 4, 21, 22, 26, 30]. Central to the analytical challenges associated with ANA IFA
testing are its labor intensiveness with significant amount of training required for competence,
subjectivity in titer, poor standardization of reagents, and pattern determination, labor intensiveness as
well as a decline workforce in the clinical laboratory [1, 4, 15, 30, 32]. Thus, in some laboratories,
ANA IFA has been replaced by high throughput, less subjective methods including ELISA and
multiplex assays such as the line immunoassays (LIA) and multiplexed bead assays (MBA) [22 29].
The non IFA assays differ in source, purity, concentration and binding capacity of the antigens;
reference materials or standards used in their development, as well as secondary antibodies
(conjugates) detection. Therefore, it is not

What Is The Most Important Result Of The Columbian Exchange
Issue Paper 2
Tino LoGerfo
History 105
What many people only know about Christopher Columbus s expedition is that he found the
Americas. While this is true, he did find a completely new frontier that was unknown to the Old
World, his findings re shaped global consumption patterns from the seventeenth century. He found a
New World filled with resources that the old world hasn t seen before. When he found the new world
he brought with him European plants and animal species that were foreign to the citizens of the New
World. The Columbian Exchange introduced many foods that are still essential to consumption in
today s world along with the seventeenth to nineteenth centuries. The potato is a prime example of
how the Columbian Exchange changed global consumption patterns because it was nutritious and had
an abundant amount of calories in it and caused a mass population increase in areas where the potato
was available. The use of slaves also increased exponentially when sugar cane was introduced. This
was a very cheap, productive way to produce a large amount of sugar and it was used by many Old
World countries. The findings of these new world products created a rise in global consumption and
production because products were introduced to the both the New World and the Old World and there
instantly became a large spike in the availability of products. Along with this, the old world decided to
go out and get themselves involved in the New World because they saw an opportunity

The Literary Works Of The Great Gatsby By F. Scott Fitzgerald
Although money provides security, social status and comfort, it does not grant happiness. There is a
tendency in American culture to equate success with happiness. Success is the core of American
society, as it drives innovation and motivates people to work harder in order to achieve their goals but
at what cost? When striving for success, people tend to neglect other important areas of their lives
such as their health, emotional well being and more importantly their loved ones. The literary works
of The Great Gatsby, a novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald; the play Death of a Salesman written by Arthur
Miller and Jon Krakauer s novel, Into the Wild, depict the value of non material, intangible
possessions. The three pieces exhibit characters who neglect their loved ones and are quick to escape
intimacy once they are able to obtain a wealth and status or other desires. Consequently, the stories
show that the pressure to appear successful often times inhibits people from attaining the authentic joy
of relationships.
Placing high value on social status promotes artificial happiness, which proves to be less fulfilling
than pursuing genuine human connections. In The Great Gatsby, Nick Carraway narrates the tragic
story of Jay Gatsby, who devotes his life to his dream of reconnecting with his lost love Daisy
Buchanan. Daisy and Jay Gatsby first met five years ago in Louisville, Kentucky where Gatsby was
stationed at Camp Taylor before being deported overseas. Unfortunately, their

Hitler s Rise to Power
Hitler s rise to power was not inevitable. It depended heavily on a range of factors, events and
circumstances that were occurring at the time. The most important of these being, the collapse of the
German economy, the failed beer hall putsch and the weakness and infighting of the Weimar Republic.
It was only through a combination of these unlikely circumstances that Hitler was able to come to
power.
One of the key events that allowed Hitler to come to power was the collapse of the German economy.
Primarily due to the harsh conditions of The Treaty of Versailles the German economy was always
precariously close to falling apart. It managed to survive an extreme amount of hyperinflation in the
early 1920 s, wherein money became ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Geary, 2000 pg 21) Without this incentive to vote for the Nazi party, Hitler may never have come to
power.
Another significant event in Hitler s journey to power was the Beer Hall putsch. The Beer Hall putsch
was an attempt by the Nazi party to gain control of the government by force. It is widely regarded as a
total failure with 16 stormtroopers being killed and Hitler being sent to prison for High Treason
(Kitson, 2001 pg 120). It was during his nine months in prison that Hitler was able to reflect upon the
fortunes of the Nazi party, coming to the conclusion that if he were to ever become leader of Germany
it would have to be through gathering electoral support rather than through sheer force. (Kitson, 2001
pg 120) He also made several other important decisions that would greatly impact the future of the
party and ultimately allow Hitler to come to power, such as deciding that strict organisation was
necessary and a larger geographical base would distinguish the party from other Nationalist groups, as
well as concluding that the Fuhrer s will need to dominate completely to enable the Nazi s to appear
united (Kitson, 2001 pg 120). The Beer Hall putsch although a failure, made Hitler realise

Adorno And Horkheimer s Essay

of artistic individualism and uniqueness. Although, Adorno, Horkheimer, and Benjamin all seem to
agree that the aura of art is rapidly declining in today s modern age, they seem to differ in classifying
the reason behind it. The aura refers to the one timeness of the experience of a certain object, which
can be possessed only by the original work of art itself, and therefore cannot be reproduced. In
essence, the aura is the one timeness of the experience, the situation in which the subject meets the

We always hear the same old bullshit about the United States: The l a a a a a n d of the f r e e e e e e,

none of that bullshit is true. How many people do you suppose there are that have actually taken a

The Police Service And Police Services
Chris Pattern, former Chancellor of Oxford University, once stated All parts of the society need to feel
that the police service is their police service, and that does not happen unless all parts of society are
represented in the police. (Higgins, 2014) For those of us that have lived in the United States, the
notion of having females in our police force is no longer a subject of major controversy. In other
countries like Afghanistan, the incorporation of females into the police force is a new occurrence and
is undergoing heavy resistance. Female officers undergo challenges daily, from mistreatment from
their male counterparts, to being targeted for murder on the streets by extremists. The fact that such
measures would be taken against them would leave many foreign to their customs in shock, including
myself, which further perpetuated my initial research. In terms of strengths and weaknesses,
withholding an entity that can otherwise be used beneficially can be considered a weakness. One of
which the USA had at one point in time, but has employed more willingly and even continues to seek
out. The lesser known Afghanistan will be analyzed first and then it will be compared to the more
familiar United States.

One horrific, though often overlooked, genocide took place in Rwanda, Africa from April to July

the Hutu. Rwanda was divided into three major clans the Tutsi, which made up about 15% of the
population and were the paler group favored by the English and Belgian colonists, and therefore were
originally chosen to rule the country after the European takeover. This greatly angered the Hutus,
about 84% of the population, (the Twa, the third group, were only 1% of Rwandans, didn t have much
to do with the genocide), so they were eventually given the ability to gain professional political

Victor disperses the remains of his father in the river and forgives him for what he did before.
I really like the movie and the story was very different than any other movies. Sherman s way of
writing the stories seems very unique and could not tell what would happen next in the movie. When
Victor knew about his father s death I was thinking he would not go to Phoenix to get his remains
since he had hatred towards him but he decides to go which was surprising. It was always funny how
Thomas kept telling stories about different stuffs to Victor even though he knew Victor don t like to
hear them. The author has tried to show the culture of Indians, the thoughts of people, how they dealt
their life through his stories which I really found interesting and something different to learn. The
author has showed how life was back then and I liked the fact he tried to show what impact it can have

Summary Of Five Ways To Kill A Man
The Child who was Shot Dead by Soldiers in Nyanga and Five Ways to Kill a Man are very different
poems but are similar in many ways. Ingrid Jonker and Edwin Brock the writers of these two poems
both talk about conflict and how it affects us all in one way or another. In the The Child the poem is
about a child who was shot dead by soldiers and how his memory lived on affected people after. In
Five Ways to Kill a Man the poem is about the different conflict there is and alludes to Jesus, medieval
conflict, ww1 and the cold war and talks about conflict and the types of conflict. These will make
interesting comparisons because they both talk about conflict and the repercussions of conflict. Both
talk about the twentieth century and how the legacy of conflict will live on. Both of these poems talk
about the idea of Death and the Impact on Society that conflict has also they both talk about Conflict.
One of the concepts in these 2 poems is Death. Both of them talk about death and how it affects us
after people have died and how their memory still lives on. In Five Ways to Kill a Man Brock writes
you may fly miles above your victim and dispose of him by pressing one small button (Brock 21 22).
The way it talks about death as disposing of him is very informal and a casual approach to death and
its severity. In the final stanza of Five Ways to Kill a Man the best way to kill a man is to place them
in the Twentieth Century century (Brock 28 31). This allusion to how

General Holofernes into getting drunk and cut off his head. The artist heightened the drama by
contrasting Judith s serene determination with the amazement and horror exploding from the general s
face. Portraying his head upside down emphasizes Holofernes defeat and evokes the reversal of
societal norms in a woman s victory over a strong man. (SKORINA, F. BOOK OF JUDITH) During
the Renaissance period, Judith was an example of man s misfortunes at the hands of a scheming

The Reason That Chip Wilson Plunged Lululemon Into Crisis
Analysis The reason that Chip Wilson plunged Lululemon into crisis again is because of three major
issues: lack of media training as a spokesperson, lack of comprehensive crisis management plan in the
company, and failure of internal communication. First of all, spokesperson media training is part of
crisis preparation. In this case, lacking media training includes training for a TV interview and training
for filming a video apology. Prior to Chip Wilson s interview with Bloomberg TV, managers from the
PR department should have conducted a comprehensive media training to Wilson. Topics cover from
diagnosing company s vulnerabilities, to preparing for difficult questions, to how to utilize chances to
re enhance the company s image, and how to risk averse after a major crisis. As Wilson s answer
caused another crisis, I assume that he was not ready to answer the questions of sheer pants recall, nor
he was ever participated in any media training at all. Erik Bernstein who runs a crisis management
blog noted that some people should never act as spokesperson. In fact, what surprised me was that as a
company s founder and chairman of board, it was Chip Wilson s responsibility to have a general
knowledge about the crisis and what caused the crisis and what procedures they have taken to solve
the crisis. Even though he was never prepared for those questions beforehand, answers such as women
s bodies don t fit its pants should have never came up. This crisis could have been

Factors Affecting The Human Capacity
Introduction:
The experiment involves test subjects with different heights blowing into same elasticity balloons in
one breath to discover if there are any correlations between human s vital capacity and height. This
experiment is categorized as biology as vital capacity is due to lungs and lungs are organs in a human
body. Vital capacity is the amount of air that can be forcibly expelled from the lungs after breathing in
as deeply as possible. The vital capacity is about 4,800 mL (4.8L) for an average human, which is the
total amount of air that can be expired after fully inhaling. The vital capacity is= approximately 80
percent of total lung capacity. = Tidal volume + inspiratory reserve volume + expiratory reserve
volume The total lung capacity (TLC) is the volume of air contained in the lungs after maximal
inspiration plus residual volume and for an average male is around 6000ml (6L). To remain a fair test,
many factors could affect one s vital capacity. Pregnancy for woman would decreases her vital
capacity as during pregnancy the diaphragm is compressed by the uterus, which decreases total lung
capacity. Pulmonary diseases such as asthma, Bronchitis, Common Cold, Lung cancer and other
diseases can also affect vital capacity. Asthma restricts the airway allowing less air to pass through to
their lungs which unable their lungs to stretch as much. Previous researches has shown woodwind and
digeridoo players have larger lung capacity due to their experience and

need to fill a waterproof bowl with Brandy, or other flammable liquid, and place various household
ingredients, including various fruits, almonds, and a handful of raisins. With players scattered around
the bowl, each one of them will take turns sticking their hands inside. They all try to pull out as much

Comparing Religion And Science From A Sociological Viewpoint
Question:1. Compare and contrast religion with science from a sociological viewpoint. Is science just
another form of religion, with people like physicist Stephen Hawking among its high priests or
mullah? Are science and religions simply both similar social constructions? In your response to this
question, specifically consider both how irrational social factors influence everything, and the
relationship between faith and proof. First of all, There are a number of debates about the similarities
and differences between religion with science from aspects of sociological. Then, in my opinion, is not
just the science with people who are the physicist or high priests and mullah shaped to religion.
Religion can be forming of culture, identity, relationship, practice, power and so on. Also, in the social

Summary Of Sully And The Imitation Game
Intro
Even though Sully and The Imitation Game are set more than 50 years apart, they both examine the
phenomenon of surviving against all odds, and the fascination the public has with any such hero. Both
Eastwood and Tyldum develop this theme in presenting their characters as national heroes. Eastwood s
story of protagonist Chesley Sully Sullenberger depicts how ex army now commercial pilot Sully
ditches a plane in the Hudson river as an emergency landing, saving the entire crew and passengers.
The essence of this story is that not only is Sully cast as an instant national hero, but ironically is
revealed behind the scenes as somewhat of a rogue and accused of endangering lives. The fascination
of a hero, is not always shared by others. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet, Eastwood and Tyldum differ in their interpretation of what makes a national hero. Eastwood
initially represents Sully as a symbol of the average American male, through a range of establishing
camera angles, which perpetuates Sully as a calm mannered and methodical pilot. Tyldum s use of
shadows and lighting accentuates a half lit face of Alan Turing in a police interrogation room, making
him appear helpless and troubled. Furthermore, this half lit lighting of his face symbolises that there is
another side to Alan, where he is a prisoner inside himself, and now his sexuality, later revealed to the
police. Sully is constructed as a reserved man who believes that I am not a hero , his actions later
dubbed the miracle of the Hudson . Unlike Eastwood, Tyldum s narrator is identifiable only through
thought and action. While the text is primarily first person showing the accomplishments and setbacks
of Alan Turing faces and his team, it frameshifted forward after the war and backwards to his
childhood. The narrator Alan Turing occasionally shifted to 2nd person talking directly to the audience
affording an insight into his motivations and concerns. The narrator shares his dissatisfaction in his
monotonous existence shown by are you paying attention... I will not pause and repeat myself,

Who Is Lily s Objectification In The House Of Mirth
Despite their untruthfulness, they still make a large impact on the lives of the aristocracy. People treat
them like truth, which causes them to almost become a truth themselves. The myths of the aristocracy
make a large impact on the lives they define, usually in a negative way. They make their victims feel
confined to these myths even if they are positive. They create an environment where everyone treats
these people like the myths, which they inhabit. The myth becomes more human than the actual
person. The myths arise from one small fact then speculation and assumption come and transform the
fib into reality. One of the most significant myths in the novel is the idea that Lily is an object. It
follows her where ever she goes in her society and warps people s actions directed towards her. In The
House of Mirth by Edith Wharton the myth of Lily being an object makes people treat her like a
decoration or a prize to be won instead of an actual human being, which causes Lily to have the skills

Even before Lily walked amongst the living, the aristocracy treated women more like objects than
people. A women s value came from her beauty and how well she entertained the folk around her, not
personality traits. The more beautiful the woman, the more valuable she became, and worse she was
treated. Instead of being viewed as merely another beautiful painting in an exhibit, they became the
star attraction. Society put more pressure on them to act like decorative beings than other women, and
men treat them like prizes or trophies. These ideas of women traveled from one generation to the next
with parents teaching their children how women should act and how to determine a woman s value.

Spoon River Anthology Essay
Spoon River Anthology
The Spoon River Anthology, written by Edgar Lee Masters in 1915, was a unique piece of work in
both style and structure. There are over two hundred stories told by the dead people who once lived in
the town of Spoon River. The lives and dreams of these people are written as poems. The poetry itself
is an excellent example of early modernist style. Since there are many people from many different
backgrounds, and even different generations, (There are examples of Old English spellings and hints
of people being from different decades), there are varied stories and themes present throughout the
Anthology. A lot of the book revolves around the concept of the American dream and ethic, as well as

The ghost of Lucinda Matlock presents one of the overall themes. The woman tells the story of her
hard but full life. Then she expresses her anger toward the living generations petty woes. She states
that Life is too strong for you it takes life to love life. Lucinda s character is based on Edgar Lee
Master s grandmother of the same name, who is buried in the cemetery that inspired the author.
Another thematic poem is that of Yee Bow. Yee Bow was an Asian man who worshipped Confucius.
The people of Spoon River tried to convert him, but he was faithful. One day, without warning, the
clergyman s son hit and killed Yee Bow. Yee was grief stricken, knowing that his progeny could not
worship him while he lie in Spoon River.

Agatha Christie Rationale
LING292 Assignment 3: Part 3 Rationale
The intended audience for my publication are fans of Agatha Christie, old and new as stated in the
subtitle of the publication. There are some posts that are aimed more towards newer fans, such as
Poirot Reading Order for fans who want to know where to start reading her Poirot stories, or to make
sure they don t read a book that spoils another book they have not yet read.
I chose an article on Agatha Christie herself, The Secrets of Agatha Christie by John Curran, as I
imagine readers would be interested in her and why she was successful. The movie review on Murder
on the Orient Express by Leigh Paatsch was a relevant choice as the film has released in theatres
recently so I looked for a mostly positive review for the publication. And I chose the novel recipe by
Kate Young as a fun and interesting post, perhaps for the bigger Christie fans who knew every detail
of her books, or just for fans who wanted to try a bit of cooking.
I edited the directions of the recipe so that it was easier to understand and follow since I imagined the
audience were probably not dedicated chefs. I divided them into much smaller steps and categorised
the steps for legibility and ease of reading on the screen. For example, Making the Ice Cream became
its own heading. Because this is a publication on the internet, I also envisaged a more international
audience and I edited the material to suit this purpose. Cling film is used in the UK, so I

  • 2. A Brief Note On Grand Canyon University ( Gcu ) Program Most companies in today s world want to make money in a way or another. The pursuit of this goal is what define average companies and great companies. In a study, done by a group of Iowa State professors, evidence was found for the Putnam thesis that companies that rely on the community that became rich was because they were civic and not the other way around (Kilkenny, Nalbarte, Besser, p231 1999). Grand Canyon University (GCU) has used this concept a lot, but there is a new avenue that GCU must follow to continue its success. GCU s Canyon Christian Schools Consortium (CCSC) program was built on this great concept of students being involved in the community. Yet this program has devolved because of the basic law of diminishing returns. Thus GCU should add a CCSC option that is service in the central Phoenix community because helping this community will improve the school s image and will help the students in achieving GCU s goal for leaders while fixing the CCSC program s numbers overflow problem. The current CCSC programs are essentially falling into the law of diminishing returns. This law says that at some point the size of the labor force a business will be greater than their demand which will lead to mass inefficiency. The current CCSC program has three sections, first the parking detail, second the Learning Lounge, and third ticket scanners. The place that the problem is seen most blatantly is in the parking detail. Parking will have times where they have 60 or more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Similarities And Differences Between Two Life Maps Maps are projections ; they usually represent a whole or part of an area on a flat surface. Maps describe the relationship between the space and the specific features that the map aims to signify. Mapmakers according to Klinghoffer, superimposes his own vision upon the world and show their interests and proclivities in culture and politics while drawing their maps. In this essay, I will be describing and explaining the similarities and differences between 2 life maps. The first map shows the important spaces and objects, peoples and places in my life; the other map shows the same thing but in my schoolmate life. The similarities between our maps are few, for example we both included our homes and they took the same amount of space, also they are the biggest objects on our maps, because it symbolize our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The differences between our maps is defiantly noticeable, starting from the overall colors of the maps, were you can see that I drew a street and several buildings that took a big part of the map, that s why dark colors like black and brown were dominating the map, while her map was more colorful, because she added some natural attractions. In terms of locations, according to Klinghoffer, when a child draw a map of his neighborhood, he egocentrically tends to place his own home near its center , and that s what I saw in her map, where she located her home at the bottom center, while my home is at the bottom left, the reason why is it on the left side, it is because in reality it is on the left the side of my neighborhood. The distance between her house and Zayed University is small, since she lives in Mohamed bin Zayed city, which is near to Zayed University, and since I live in new Shahama, my map showed a clear big distance between my house and the university. Another difference is that she included ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Comparison Of Utopia And Anarchy Jacquelyn Ramirez 9th English Summer school Writing proficiency The author should ve included the reason as to why they re in a feud because the article sounds like Utopia and Anarchy are attacking each other for no reason. In the quote Meanwhile, Utopian citizens marched against their own capital, insisting that their demands be met , it seems as tho that information was thrown into the article because that event was taken place during the battle between Utopia and Anarchy but their is no explanation as to why the citizens are marching against their own capital. This would make it hard for historians to note the reason as to why Utopia and anarchy weren t on good terms and why Utopia s people were against their own government. A correlation from this passage includes the author saying that by composting you could potentially decrease your grocery bill. I believe this is a correlation because yes, you could compost and use it to fertilize your vegetable garden and not spend as much money on food but just because you re saving the organic waste doesn t necessarily mean you ll save money while grocery shopping. Spending less at a grocery store can be the result of many things like couponing or changing your diet not because you decided to save a few banana peels. • 5. Moral Injustice In Antigone Antigone, a magnificent dramatic character, is a woman of courage whose actions and behavior are completely understandable in the light of modern ideology. Although, she is more ordinary rather than exceptional. Antigone is the daughter of Oedipus and sister to Eteocles and Polynices, she had been leading a double life when her brothers Polynices and Eteocles harmed each other treacherously in a dispute over the throne. It follows that, the person who refuses to follow orders will be sentenced to death. It s says in Greek literature that women were only allowed to show conventional signs of sorrows that indicate the death of a person, and to obey Creons orders. For this reason, those people are obligated to obey Creon s law because they fear the consequences if they do not intend to do so. From this point, Antigone recognizes that the law is unfair and decided to make uncompromising decisions that will cost her life entirely by going against the king. Admittedly, Antigone s manipulations will lead to complicated decisions and away from social obligations where she has to sacrifice her life for an unjust law to correct it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Immediately, Tiresias responds guardedly, lamenting his ability to see the truth when it brings nothing but pain. So far, he curses and insults the old man, going so far as to accuse him of the murder. Twice, he accuses Creon and Tiresias of going against his life, and charges Tiresias with insanity. After realizing that it was true he told Creon to send him away from Thebes. Antigone s actions of challenging the government are character traits inherited from her father. After all, these traits are what leads her to challenge and go against Creon. In the end, we can see that it turned out to be a positive trait. By extension, this is because it helped Creon realize that he needed to be more flexible with his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Canada, the Grand Banks habitat is in environmental degradation (Connor and Taitano) due to bottom trawlers tearing up the sea floor displacing and destroying the vegetation at the seafloor and therefore disrupting the habitat of the small fish the cod prey upon (Connor and Taitano). However the invention of MP3 players, allowing people to move files from their computer on to a portable device meant this was no longer a problem for down loaders. Some sites have aimed to provide a legal outlet for customers to download music, the most recognisable being Apple s iTunes system. This has been an extremely successful venture for Apple, but has done little to prevent piracy. Apple has also played their part in the way we purchase music. The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) Digital Music report estimates that forty billion tracks were downloaded in 2008. 95% of these tracks are estimated to have been downloaded illegally (IFPI Digital Music Report 2009). While it is obvious that the music industry has almost gone completely digital and people no longer place any real value in owning physical CDs, music listeners also avoid paying for their downloaded copy of the songs they wish to own. • 9. A Study On Preparing Titanium Metal Matrix Composites With... I. INTRODUCTION Many engineering applications in the field of aerospace engineering, automobiles, electronic equipment etc. require very light material with good mechanical properties. Titanium based metal matrix composites with carbon nanotube reinforcement can be a solution for such applications. It can satisfy the requirement of light weight with very good strength. This study focuses on preparing titanium metal matrix composites with CNT reinforcements for various compositions for its mechanical properties. Ti alloys have been widely used as structural materials in aeronautical industries due to their attractive comprehensive properties, such as low density, high strength, ductility, toughness and resistance to fatigue. Observations on the MA behaviour of CNT Ti powder mixtures in this study showed that addition of CNTs alters the grinding behaviour of Ti powders, which typically agglomerates in ball milling, and that the MA process itself is also affected by the type of CNTs incorporated. While all types of the CNTs, namely SWCNTs, DWCNTs, and MWCNTs, functioned as grinding aid preventing agglomeration of Ti particles, only the MWCNTs seem to have uniformly embedded into the Ti particles whereas SWCNTs and DWCNTs were supposedly not dispersed fully within the matrix. These variations in MA behavior, dependent on the types of CNTs, are ascribed to the morphological characteristics of each CNT type such as overall shape, number of carbon walls, and diameter, and specific ... Essay On Antinuclear Antibody Nomenclature Contemporary Issues on Antinuclear Antibody Nomenclature Detection of ANA by IFA technique demonstrates binding to specific intracellular structures within the cells resulting in a number of staining patterns that are usually categorized based on the subcomponents recognized and degree of binding reflected by the fluorescent intensity or titer. The provision of ANA pattern and titer is considered to be of added clinical value especially with respect to other methods for their detection [1 3, 15, 21 29]. As mentioned above, the most commonly recognized and reported patterns by clinical laboratories are those staining the nuclear region referred to as homogeneous, speckled, centromere, and nucleolar [1, 2, 15 17]. Despite the recognition that non nuclear patterns, cytoplasmic and mitotic are clinically relevant, no consensus to report these as ANA negative or positive was reached. Central to this contention were the implications for existing diagnostic/classification criteria for ANA associated diseases such as autoimmune hepatitis [16, 31]. Assessment of Antinuclear Antibodies Since the adoption of ANA as a routine clinical laboratory test, the techniques for their detection and/or measurement have evolved and now encompass a variety of immunological methods [21 30]. IFA using HEp 2 cells is considered the gold standard method for detecting ANA with a number of cons and pros [1 4, 21, 22, 26, 30]. Central to the analytical challenges associated with ANA IFA testing are its labor intensiveness with significant amount of training required for competence, subjectivity in titer, poor standardization of reagents, and pattern determination, labor intensiveness as well as a decline workforce in the clinical laboratory [1, 4, 15, 30, 32]. Thus, in some laboratories, ANA IFA has been replaced by high throughput, less subjective methods including ELISA and multiplex assays such as the line immunoassays (LIA) and multiplexed bead assays (MBA) [22 29]. The non IFA assays differ in source, purity, concentration and binding capacity of the antigens; reference materials or standards used in their development, as well as secondary antibodies (conjugates) detection. What Is The Most Important Result Of The Columbian Exchange Issue Paper 2 Tino LoGerfo History 105 What many people only know about Christopher Columbus s expedition is that he found the Americas. While this is true, he did find a completely new frontier that was unknown to the Old World, his findings re shaped global consumption patterns from the seventeenth century. He found a New World filled with resources that the old world hasn t seen before. When he found the new world he brought with him European plants and animal species that were foreign to the citizens of the New World. The Columbian Exchange introduced many foods that are still essential to consumption in today s world along with the seventeenth to nineteenth centuries. The potato is a prime example of how the Columbian Exchange changed global consumption patterns because it was nutritious and had an abundant amount of calories in it and caused a mass population increase in areas where the potato was available. The use of slaves also increased exponentially when sugar cane was introduced. This was a very cheap, productive way to produce a large amount of sugar and it was used by many Old World countries. The findings of these new world products created a rise in global consumption and production because products were introduced to the both the New World and the Old World and there instantly became a large spike in the availability of products. • 13. The Literary Works Of The Great Gatsby By F. Scott Fitzgerald Although money provides security, social status and comfort, it does not grant happiness. There is a tendency in American culture to equate success with happiness. Success is the core of American society, as it drives innovation and motivates people to work harder in order to achieve their goals but at what cost? When striving for success, people tend to neglect other important areas of their lives such as their health, emotional well being and more importantly their loved ones. The literary works of The Great Gatsby, a novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald; the play Death of a Salesman written by Arthur Miller and Jon Krakauer s novel, Into the Wild, depict the value of non material, intangible possessions. The three pieces exhibit characters who neglect their loved ones and are quick to escape intimacy once they are able to obtain a wealth and status or other desires. Consequently, the stories show that the pressure to appear successful often times inhibits people from attaining the authentic joy of relationships. Placing high value on social status promotes artificial happiness, which proves to be less fulfilling than pursuing genuine human connections. In The Great Gatsby, Nick Carraway narrates the tragic story of Jay Gatsby, who devotes his life to his dream of reconnecting with his lost love Daisy Buchanan. Daisy and Jay Gatsby first met five years ago in Louisville, Kentucky where Gatsby was stationed at Camp Taylor before being deported overseas. Unfortunately, their ... It was only through a combination of these unlikely circumstances that Hitler was able to come to power. One of the key events that allowed Hitler to come to power was the collapse of the German economy. It is widely regarded as a total failure with 16 stormtroopers being killed and Hitler being sent to prison for High Treason (Kitson, 2001 pg 120). It was during his nine months in prison that Hitler was able to reflect upon the fortunes of the Nazi party, coming to the conclusion that if he were to ever become leader of Germany it would have to be through gathering electoral support rather than through sheer force. (Kitson, 2001 pg 120) He also made several other important decisions that would greatly impact the future of the party and ultimately allow Hitler to come to power, such as deciding that strict organisation was necessary and a larger geographical base would distinguish the party from other Nationalist groups, as well as concluding that the Fuhrer s will need to dominate completely to enable the Nazi s to appear united (Kitson, 2001 pg 120). The Police Service And Police Services Chris Pattern, former Chancellor of Oxford University, once stated All parts of the society need to feel that the police service is their police service, and that does not happen unless all parts of society are represented in the police. (Higgins, 2014) For those of us that have lived in the United States, the notion of having females in our police force is no longer a subject of major controversy. In other countries like Afghanistan, the incorporation of females into the police force is a new occurrence and is undergoing heavy resistance. Female officers undergo challenges daily, from mistreatment from their male counterparts, to being targeted for murder on the streets by extremists. The Reason That Chip Wilson Plunged Lululemon Into Crisis Analysis The reason that Chip Wilson plunged Lululemon into crisis again is because of three major issues: lack of media training as a spokesperson, lack of comprehensive crisis management plan in the company, and failure of internal communication. Summary Of Sully And The Imitation Game Intro Even though Sully and The Imitation Game are set more than 50 years apart, they both examine the phenomenon of surviving against all odds, and the fascination the public has with any such hero. Eastwood s story of protagonist Chesley Sully Sullenberger depicts how ex army now commercial pilot Sully ditches a plane in the Hudson river as an emergency landing, saving the entire crew and passengers. Eastwood initially represents Sully as a symbol of the average American male, through a range of establishing camera angles, which perpetuates Sully as a calm mannered and methodical pilot. Tyldum s use of shadows and lighting accentuates a half lit face of Alan Turing in a police interrogation room, making him appear helpless and troubled. Furthermore, this half lit lighting of his face symbolises that there is another side to Alan, where he is a prisoner inside himself, and now his sexuality, later revealed to the police. Sully is constructed as a reserved man who believes that I am not a hero , his actions later dubbed the miracle of the Hudson . Unlike Eastwood, Tyldum s narrator is identifiable only through thought and action. While the text is primarily first person showing the accomplishments and setbacks of Alan Turing faces and his team, it frameshifted forward after the war and backwards to his childhood. People treat them like truth, which causes them to almost become a truth themselves. The myths of the aristocracy make a large impact on the lives they define, usually in a negative way. They make their victims feel confined to these myths even if they are positive. They create an environment where everyone treats these people like the myths, which they inhabit. The myth becomes more human than the actual person. The myths arise from one small fact then speculation and assumption come and transform the fib into reality. One of the most significant myths in the novel is the idea that Lily is an object. It follows her where ever she goes in her society and warps people s actions directed towards her. In The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton the myth of Lily being an object makes people treat her like a decoration or a prize to be won instead of an actual human being, which causes Lily to have the skills of an object and the soul of a being. ... There are over two hundred stories told by the dead people who once lived in the town of Spoon River. The lives and dreams of these people are written as poems. The poetry itself is an excellent example of early modernist style. Since there are many people from many different backgrounds, and even different generations, (There are examples of Old English spellings and hints of people being from different decades), there are varied stories and themes present throughout the Anthology. Lucinda s character is based on Edgar Lee Master s grandmother of the same name, who is buried in the cemetery that inspired the author. Another thematic poem is that of Yee Bow. Yee Bow was an Asian man who worshipped Confucius. The people of Spoon River tried to convert him, but he was faithful. One day, without warning, the clergyman s son hit and killed Yee Bow. Agatha Christie Rationale LING292 Assignment 3: Part 3 Rationale The intended audience for my publication are fans of Agatha Christie, old and new as stated in the subtitle of the publication. There are some posts that are aimed more towards newer fans, such as Poirot Reading Order for fans who want to know where to start reading her Poirot stories, or to make sure they don t read a book that spoils another book they have not yet read. I chose an article on Agatha Christie herself, The Secrets of Agatha Christie by John Curran, as I imagine readers would be interested in her and why she was successful. The movie review on Murder on the Orient Express by Leigh Paatsch was a relevant choice as the film has released in theatres recently so I looked for a mostly positive review for the publication. And I chose the novel recipe by Kate Young as a fun and interesting post, perhaps for the bigger Christie fans who knew every detail of her books, or just for fans who wanted to try a bit of cooking. I edited the directions of the recipe so that it was easier to understand and follow since I imagined the audience were probably not dedicated chefs. I divided them into much smaller steps and categorised the steps for legibility and ease of reading on the screen. For example, Making the Ice Cream became its own heading. Because this is a publication on the internet, I also envisaged a more international audience and I edited the material to suit this purpose. Cling film is used in the UK, so I ...
