Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) is a process that artificially multiplies a piece of genetic material. It uses thermal cycling to denature DNA and add primers and nucleotides to replicate the target DNA. After 30 cycles of heating and cooling, over 2 billion copies of the target DNA can be produced, allowing detection of even small amounts of DNA.
