This document describes four main types of soil: clay soil, which is heavy and retains water but has high nutrients; sandy soil, which is light and dries out quickly with few nutrients; silt soil, which is fertile but can become compacted and retains moisture; and loam soil, which is a mixture of the other soil types. Each soil type is also described in terms of its properties in winter and summer.
