When it came to creating our production package (the
music video, Digipak and poster), it was important that
we thought about the importance of branding in the
construction process. Branding is important as each
and every product has specific factors in which it is
unique to itself. For example, Katy Perry had a very
distinctive branding image for her Digipak – in which
it represents herself as a person as well as it grabs the
attention of the audience. This will then hopefully
appeal to your target audience into buying your
products. So, in order to create a branding image for
our music production package, we created synergy
across all of our media.
Synergy is the term used to describe different
elements of the media that interacts with each
other to create a greater effect than their
individual efforts. A good example of this is
Disney and High School Musical – the
conglomerate would be Disney > which has
outlets > which sells their singalong CDs
DVDs and gaming (such as Singstar).
For our production package, we created a
music video, a Digipak and a poster. The way
in which we created synergy across these
different platforms is the fact that we had
included the same elements (such as
imaging). This is so that the audience will be
able to recognise instantly if they saw the
same thing, rather than getting confused
with it being different.
When creating the Digipak and poster, we
decided to keep the same theme going from
our music video. This song was released as
part of an album called ‘X’ by Chris Brown.
This is what the album cover looks like:
In my opinion, I think that this ‘X’ is significant as part of
iconography as it the name of the album – which is why I
included this ‘X’ on the front cover of my Digipak. In addition
to this ‘X’, I put Ashley’s face as our front cover. This is
because Ashley is the male lead in our music video – which
means that the synergy created by recognition of the same
actors. I also included images of alcohol as a background in
my Digipak, as our chosen song is very much about
alcoholism – which fits in nicely with the theme of our music
production package. For the inside left cover of the Digipak, I
included an image of Julia – as she is the female lead of the
music video. However, she is put on the inside of my Digipak,
as she plays the part of Jhene Aiko in the song – in which she
is featured in Chris Brown’s song (Ashley being the lead).
For our poster, I decided to pick an image
of Ashley sat on his phone with drinks
around him – suggesting that he is
drunk texting.Which carries the theme
of alcoholism throughout our work.This
again, I used Ashley as he is the male
lead (acting as Chris Brown for his album
called ‘X’).
Looking back at our music production package,
I am very pleased with the outcome of it all.
Our genre is represented clearly, through
iconography, performance elements as well
as costume. I am particularly pleased with the
outcome of our Digipak, as it bought out my
creative side from developing idea’s of our
genre and theme that we have.
