The document discusses the importance of brand identity and consistency across products to build recognition. It then summarizes the key elements of the brand identity established across the document author's digipak and advert for their fictional artist "The Chainsmokers." These include using the same fonts for text, similar photos from the music video on both products, coordinating color schemes and background images to clearly link the two products together and establish a signature style for the artist.
2. HOUSE STYLE AND BRAND IDENTITY
• It is important for an artist to have a ‘brand identity’ or a ‘house style’ as it
shows consistency across their work and makes it recognisable to their
audience.
• A brand identity can be created by following a particular style, for example
bright colours throughout their work, or by using the same characters and
symbols like a band logo or images of the band themselves across their
products.
• Having a ‘brand identity’ is important for artist as it can help increase sales
due to the continuity but also it encourages trust and over time can develop
a uniqueness of the artists products.
• Effective branding can help build a reputation and make you stand out from
the others.
4. MY BRAND IDENTITY
• From the beginning I knew I wanted all of my products to be linked together
so to achieve this I had to have a brand identity. On both of my ancillary
texts I used the same fonts for the artists name, album name and also the
release date.
• By using similar texts on both of my products it will
allow people to recognise the artists work when they
see it. I decided to put ‘The Chainsmokers’ in big bold
text as it is eye catching and it allows the audience to
quickly tell who it is.
• Throughout all of my products I have used 1 font fro all
of the text included, I did this as I feel like being
consistent across all products just makes them look
more professional and it allows the to look like real
media products.
5. • On my digipak and advert I have used similar photos as I wanted al three products to be related. The
images on my digipak and advert were all taken at locations that feature in the music video. The model I
used is also the main protagonist in the video. I decided to use only her as she ends up alone in the
video and I thought it would look more visually pleasing than having both of the characters.
• The image that I used on the advert is an image from the digipak, I decided to do this as then both
products are linked quite closely and it will be easier for the audience to recognise the artists work.
• My digipak album name is Bouquet and I decided
to have a theme across both products that linked
to this so I used very similar backgrounds over
both products. My digipak is also all in colour
except one image but my advert is in black and
white and I wanted to do this just so the products
weren’t identical, however by using completely
different colour schemes it is still obvious that the
products are closely linked. The use of colour and
black and white on both products creates a brand
identity as they link both products together and
creates a recognisable style for the artist.
6. • On both products I have used a similar style of visuals and I have done this to keep them
closely related and easily recognisable. For example when I have used an image I have put a
black border around it and then I have used a background image. All of the background
images are very similar too in that they are all images of hydrangeas, I decided to do this as
they link in well with the name of the album but also in previous products that ‘The
Chainsmokers’ have produced they have used similar imagery but also similar styles. I
haven’t copied any of their work but I wanted mine to look similar and as close to a real
media product as I could.
• Across The Chainsmokers
work they don’t generally
use images of people they
have used more artistic
work which I why I wanted
to create something that
was quite closely linked yet
it was
very different. I also wanted to stick to their brand identity as it would make my products
hopefully look a lot like really media texts.
7. HOW WILL THEY SELL?- DIGIPAK
• A way in which my digipak will sell the song/album is that the model
featuring on the front and inside is the same girl used in the video so it could
almost make the audience question who she is and if they’ve seen her
somewhere before, for example if they’ve seen the music video and liked it,
they may want more music similar to it therefore they buy the song/album.
• The design of my digipak is quite simple yet it is quite aesthetically pleasing
meaning the target audience could like the simplicity of it making them want
to buy it.
• I also decided to include the name of the artist at the top of the digipak in
big bold text, this will draw the eye to the name and it may encourage the
audience to buy the album because they may have heard of the artist before
and by having the name clearly at the top it may tempt them into buying it.
8. - ADVERT
• I feel like one of the main way that my advert will sell the album is through
the way that both of the products link together.
The use of similar fonts/texts
The use of similar imagery – model and backgrounds
• As there are a few similarities between them both I think this will help as the
audience will be able to notice the similarities between them both and
maybe want to buy the products.
• I also decided to include a review from a well-known music magazine but
also a bit of information on what the album include (hit song ‘Paris’), by
doing this the audience will se the reviews and be encouraged to buy the
album because of the positivity but also because it is from a well-known
source so they will be reassured.
9. HOW DO THE ADVERT AND DIGIPAK
COMMUNICATE GENRE?
• The genre of pop/electronica have many features that are quite recognisable
to audiences. A way in which my advert and diigpak communicate these
genres is through the use of bright colours. The use of bright colours is quite
a common theme in these genres as they want to be bright and eye catching
to draw in the audience.
• A feature of pop music digipaks/adverts is to use bright colours but also they
typically use close-ups or images of people related to the album- generally
the artist. In this case I have used images of the main character in the music
video.
• By using similar styles on both my advert and digipak I should hopefully be
able to communicate the pop/electronica genre on both.
