The document discusses how the author attracted and addressed their audience for a music magazine. To attract readers, the author used bold fonts and colors for the masthead that mimicked popular magazines. Pictures of popular artists and quirky double page spreads were also used. The author offered prizes, like festival tickets, to attract readers and increase subscribers. Cover lines about new albums and artists further engaged the target audience. The layout and $2.50 price point were designed to be accessible yet appealing. To address readers, most images showed direct eye contact to create a personal connection. The writing style in questions and answers involved readers in discussions.

What is the point of small housing associations.pptxPaul Smith
Given the small scale of housing associations and their relative high cost per home what is the point of them and how do we justify their continued existance
2. How did you attract/address your
audience?
One way that I attracted my audience was with fonts, for instance my masthead font, as
this would hopefully be the first thing that the audience would see on the front cover. I
made it in a big bold font with a bright recognisable colour(I have also used the same
colour scheme throughout the magazine as I feel these colours attract the readers due
to it being a similar colour of that used in other music magazines), a bold red and a bold
Bebas Nueu font, it also had a stroke and a strong shadow on it to make it stand out
from the rest of the fonts on the page and to divert your attention straight to it. I also
heavily based it on mastheads that already exist such as the masthead on NME and Q as
these are magazines that are doing very well and are known by a lot of people by their
masthead. So if I have a masthead similar to these magazines then it may tell the
readers of those magazines that my magazine is similar to them so they may like what is
inside it.
Another thing I have used to attract my audience is the pictures that I have used. I have
used a range of pictures in my magazine, male and female, so there is an equal spilt and
something for everybody. The pictures I have used are of the artists that the reader
would be interested in so I have used that as a way to attract readers. Another thing I
have done with the pictures is made the double page spread images quite
quirky, relating to the child like nature of the artist which some readers may be able to
relate to.
3. I have also included chances for readers to win free things. This attracts readers
because everyone likes free stuff, and the things that I have advertised on the front
cover is a chance to win Leeds Festival tickets. This is a music related prize and at
this event they mainly show alternative music, which is the genre of music my
magazine focuses. I have also included exclusive prizes that only subscribers to the
magazine can win. I have done this to try and increase my subscriber base, as the
audience would more be more likely to subscribe if they can get something more
out of it than just readers who buy single copies.
Another way I have attracted my audience is the cover lines that I have included on
the front of my magazine. I have included things which would be exciting to the
alternative rock fans, such as reviews of new albums and talking about new up and
coming artists.
I have also used the layout of my magazine to attract the audience. I have made the
layout quite simplistic so that the reader finds it easier to read as there isn't too
much going on to divert attention away from what they are trying to read. I have
laid it out in columns so that it all looks neat and aesthetically pleasing to the reader
and is easier to work out where things are in the magazine.
Another way that I have attracted my audience is the price of my magazine is the
price of the magazine, it costs £2.50, which is a reasonable price to pay for a
magazine for people in the ABC1 category as it is a small amount of money to pay
for a luxury. It is also suitable for people who may not have as much money or don’t
fall into the ABC1 category and it doesn’t cost a lot so if they really wanted to they
could purchase it without it being a hindrance on their financial state.
4. A way that my magazine addresses my audience is the way that I have used my
images, almost all my images the models are looking down the camera giving the audience
a direct address. This makes the audience feel more of a connection to the models in the
image, this makes them feel comfortable in reading the magazine as they feel that they are
being invited in to read by the direct eye contact. It also makes the audience feel the same
emotions which the subject of the image may be trying to get across. Only one of my
images of a person in my magazine is he subject not looking at the camera, I tried to make
most of my pictures to be giving the audience a direct address so the audience felt more
invited to pick up the magazine and read it.
Another way I have addressed my audience is the wring style I have used, such as on the
front cover “Stray Relay are they really worth the hype?” Asking the audience a direct
question. I have done this so that the audience may feel more involved with the
magazine, they may also feel obliged to buy it so that they can see the answer to the
question inside or so that they can make their own decision based in what they read inside
the magazine. I feel like the writing style has been written in a manor to cater to the
younger audiences as it is not very formal, which my make the younger audiences which it is
aimed at feel more comfortable reading it.
