The genre I have chosen for my music magazine is rock. I chose this genre because I listen a lot of rock music, and know quite a lot
about the genre and its artists/bands.
The title I chose for my music magazine is Unplugged. I chose this name because it relates to the genre. The genre rock is seen as
loud and heavy, therefore I chose unplugged as it is too loud for your ears you could ‘unplug’ your headphones/earphones and share
with the world.
My music magazine will be published on a monthly basis. This is because my target audience is teenagers and young adults who are
still in education therefore cannot afford to purchase a music magazine on a weekly basis at a price such as £1.50. This would also
allow me to raise my price up to between £3 and £4 allowing me to have a profit at the end of the month. I will also have social media
links for the reader to follow, so that they could catch up on the latest news on the go.
I have chosen to create this type of magazine because it is different and there are not that many rock magazines out there, so there
is not much competition apart from the well-known magazines such as: Kerrang, Rolling Stones and Q magazine.
My magazine will promote ideologies such as individuality, difference and acceptance. This because some people are seen as
outcasts because of their difference in society, so I will promote these three so that everyone can learn to accept different people.
My article will have contents that will attract old fans as well as new fans. My magazines will include gig/tour dates, posters,
interviews, behind the scenes, remix CD’s and gift vouchers. This would attract old and new fans because old fans will enjoy all the
contents while new comers may want to explore by listening to the CD or searching up local gigs/concerts. This way they could get
an understanding of the genre as well as a feel of it.
The techniques I will use to attract my target audience are cover mounts, celebrity central image and color scheme and buzz words. I
will use cover mounts such as free posters, remix CD’s and vouchers. The colors that I will use will be black, white, red and yellow.
The color black and white will be used for backgrounds or the title block, red would also be used for the title block. All the colors will
be used for the text as they are all eye grabbing in their own way.
Proposal:
My ideal target audience for my music magazine is teenagers and young adults, both genders who are most likely still in education. I
chose this target audience because during this period most teenagers are experimenting more with the world as they are freer to
move about. I would make sure to attract the target audience and introduce them to the genre and get them to understand and
maybe change their mind about the typical stereotype ‘rock music is loud and aggressive’. If the audience understands the genre
then my music magazine may have continuous customers.
Main Artist Plan:
The name of the band that will be featured on my magazine cover will be Fields of Glass but my magazine will concentrate on the
lead singer Brooklynn. This will be a high angle shot of Brooklynn to imply to the audience that she is looking out at them; giving it a
direct mode of address. Brooklynn is a 19 year old lead singer of a band called Fields of Glass; the band consists of three girls. I will
represent them by presenting them as a serious rock band who enjoys what they do and have respect for their fans. Their attitude to
their fans and music will be funny, smart, serious and loving. They will try to help their fans through their music and any meet and
greets they have. Their fans will be really important to them after their music and family. They will attempt to change any stereotypes
that surround rock artists and their fans. Their style will be indie rock. They will wear normal clothes such as skinny jeans, leather
jackets, shirts, jean jackets, trainers and boots.
Audience Profile:
Name: Kelsie
Age: 17
Occupation: Attends College 3 times a week and works twice a week.
Interests/Hobbies: Music & concerts, art, reading and writing, shopping and fashion.
Ideologies: She believes the way you look determines your personality. Fashion is important to
her.
Name: Nick
Age: 21
Occupation: University student with a part time job.
Interests/Hobbies: Skating, biking, music, art, reading and playing with my guitar.
Ideologies: He believes that art and music is the best way to express someone’s feelings and
emotions.
