Final Evaluation question 4

Who would be the audience for
     your media product?
I chose the main audience for my media magazine as students; this is due
to the fact that being a student myself I thought it would be easy to relate
the magazine towards them. Mainly from the age of 16-21, but it would still
be an appropriate magazine for people older or maybe slightly younger. I
feel that these people would buy my magazine, as it is keeping up to date
every week with the latest music and fashion, and also gives an incite in
which bands they should look out for in the future, which I feel a lot of
students like to do these days, find new up and coming bands. Especially
in the indie/rock culture of music. I have reflected this also in my magazine
due to the fact I have put it a lot towards females as well as males. A lot of
females in this day are very similar to males in how they dress and have a
very similar music sense, due to the new indie bands which have
appeared recently, and students tend to spread the word to each other
about new bands, so lots of groups of students listen to very similar music.
I have been very selective in the genre of music that I have
chosen, but not in my target audience. I feel that there is being
to selective, so your magazine won’t do well as it will only be
aimed at a small audience. And then there is being over
selective, which would include having too many genres of music
in your magazine, which would involve people being interested
in part of the magazine but not the rest. My magazine attracts a
big enough audience to do well, but not so big that parts of the
magazine only interest some people. I have linked indie music
and rock music together, so this would bring in fans from
magazines such as NME and Q, and link them with fans from
magazines such as Kerrang.
I haven’t purposely chosen to exclude an audiences, as my magazine
is available to read. But I think there is a small population who would
not be interested in my magazine whatsoever. For example small
children and the elderly, as they don’t really understand the music of
today and the changes which are being made to the music industry.
Excluded from my category would also probably be people who are a
fan of pop music, as my magazine focuses a lot on non-mainstream
music, so it gives a different edge to the mainstream pop music which a
lot of younger people listen to. However no audiences how excluded all
together from my magazines and everyone should at least give it a go.
