The working title of the magazine I am creating is NOTORIOUS. NOTORIOUS means famous or well known, typically for some bad quality or
deed. Synonyms for this include infamous or scandalous, I thought that either or these would suit the tone of my magazine, although I think
that NOTORIOUS echoes the genre which I have chosen. My music magazine is centered around indie-rock which is why I have chosen this
working title. Often rock has negative connotations which is directly reflected by the working title. Including indie is going to broaden the
amount of consumers that would buy the magazine, this genre was also highly popular in the results of my survey monkey questionnaire. The
genre indie-rock has many artists which I could include within my magazine and mention. Using well known indie-rock bands such as The
Strokes and Radiohead, the reader will be able to connect with the magazine as they will already know these artists. Including a large feature
article around a indie-rock band would primarily be a large part of the magazine.
The publication pattern of NOTORIOUS would be monthly with 120 pages which would contain a plethora of information about indie and rock
bands. I have chosen to have a monthly publication pattern as I feel as if I will be able to have a higher quality of information within my
magazine as I would have a month to gather it all. If I had chosen my magazine to be published every week I feel that the quality would not be
there as I would be cramming any information which I could find into the magazine as it is only one week. However, The drawback on my
chosen publication pattern is that if there is any extreme news within the industry that the consumers would have to wait until the end of the
month to purchase the magazine. There would also be sub-genres included in this so a larger target audience is reached, this would help more
magazines to be sold when the magazine is released. Highly focusing on interviews, NOTORIOUS would have intellectual language which the
average teen (17) could understand. Using sophisticated terminology would provide an also educational source which would provide as an
alternate to learning outside of the classroom. This will be further explained in the ‘contents’
My target audience is women within the ages of 16-23, mostly 16-18 year olds answered my survey monkey questionnaire however, I think
that adding another five years on top on the previous age range will expand my magazine, and the information which I can add in . I think that
I would be able to do this as KERRANG! is well known within the age range of 16-18 even though it has a reader profile of 23 it still appeals to
those younger. I plan that my magazine will include the same kind of information that KERRANG’1 will, so this explains my choice for and extra
5 years. I will be able to appeal to this age range as I am also within it and will know the likes and interest with addition to my previous
research which I have done. Due to the monthly publication date the price would be £4.50 which is within the range for my ‘perfect reader’
This range is available for ages 16-18 as many have part time jobs or money given from parents, additionally the ages older than 18 will have
jobs or be in university so this price is also suitable for 18+. The ABC1 profile suggests that over 39% of older teens are within this range, an as
a result the magazine would e easily affordable, if it were just ages 16-18 the ABC1 profile would not be that high as many of these girls are
still in school/college
This pitch document will include information about my music magazine which I am currently planning. It will
include; the working title, publication pattern, target audience and intended contents of the magazine.
Emily is 17 and lives in York. She loves music so much that she persuaded her parents
to let her go to Leeds Festival last year. She has a part-time job working in Subway on
the weekends and gets 6.20 an hour, overall she gets 65 pounds for it. Although, she
has only recently started so her parents paid for her ticket to the festival. She doesn’t
have a large disposable income so Emily tries not to spend all the money she earns at
once. Some of it just seems to disappear after she has gone out for the day and often
she is left with nothing!
Spending time with her friends is very important as they can be fast paced and make
plans without her, this means she uses the internet and social media to keep up-to
date on her favourite artists. She reads the highly popular magazine KERRANG! every
week, and on the off chance she doesn’t have the money left, she will lend her
friends. Emily is currently in college so she has to keep her mind thinking, so she
enjoys reading the articles most in her magazines. Her favourite band is Foals who
she swears looked at her whilst playing on stage last year. This indie group is very
popular amongst her friends also who also like the same type of music as Emily.
Her mum and dad love rock which has been passed onto Emily and her brothers as
they’ve grown up listening to it. They dislike classical as it doesn’t really appeal to
Emily’s teenage tastes, she calls it ‘prissy music’
The music magazine NOTORIOUS would have a plethora of information which would be aimed at
young teens. As NOTORIOUS is published once a month there would have to be a lot of relevant
content which reflects the chosen genre. Here, that is indie-rock.
This would largely include reviews, competitions and artist interviews. These interviews would be
based around upcoming or famous indie artists or bands and would spread for at least a double
page. Including this would be pleasant for the reader as they would be able to find out more
information about their favourite artists. If a mixture of unconventional questions are asked within
an interview this means that the topic would have never be covered before in a prior magazine. In
addition, interviews would not only be of larger bands and artists but smaller ones so that
NOTORIOUS can act as a social platform for them as this would help the artist gain recognition.
Articles will also heavily feature within my magazine as this was the highest rated answer on my
survey monkey questionnaire. This will range from articles written by professional writers or eve the
readers using language which will be easily understood by the consumers, any topic can be
discussed.
Reviews of albums or simply EP’s/singles would also help the consumer decide if they should buy
the product, as a professional source of critique would help the teen into their decision.
Also, my magazine would include different competitions each month to entice the consumer to buy
it as they are still a teen. Competitions are likely to be entered by teens as it is unlikely that they
will be able to afford festival/concert tickets, plus free albums and signed tee’s would be a benefit
and memorabilia for the consumer.
My magazine will also include a section on safety, contrasting to the name of the magazine
NOTORIOUS. It would feature, much less elaborately named, something as ‘what not to do at
festivals’ so that the consumer is not off put by the idea of the section being named ‘safety’ I think
. that this would be helpful for the adolescent ages as they will be drinking, partying and
/ going to festivals. Although, my magazine will not include plugs, or freebies, this is due to
/ the negative responses attained from my survey monkey questionnaire. This answer was
. not chosen at all which highlights that the target audience would not be bothered if such
. things did not make an appearance in the magazine.
Here I begin adding in some
inspirational ideas which I would
like to reflect within my magazine.
On this slide I have placed
magazines which I like the layout of.
In addition, these are all magazines
which are from the UK. This is
helpful as I am inspired y the
magazines that people around me
read. I think that this is good as I
will be able to relate when I am
creating my magazine.
Most of the adverts in the magazine would
primarily and clearly be about music. Here are
a few which I think would be suitable to be
placed within my music magazine. In addition
to this, ADVERTS was the third most popular
answer in my questionnaire which indicates
how I should think about type of adverts.
I have included different types of adverts,
some are band tour promotions which could
feature in my magazine, although this would
evidently be less consistent as there would not
be hundreds of tours every month.
In addition, there are also adverts about album
and EP releases, this would be perfect for my
magazine as if it was the genre indie or rock
the consumer would also like these adverts.
These inspirational ideas help me to
understand what type of
content would be in my
magazine and enable the
reader to be interested by
the adverts.
Not only will the adverts within the
magazine surround music like the prior
slide, they will also be based around
food and travelling. I would include
these as the interview results showed
how the target audience also had great
interest in both cuisine and travel.
100% of the interviewees showed
interest in travel whilst 66% showed
interest in cuisine.
Here are some adverts which I think
would fit in NOTORIOUS
NOTORIOUS is an ever changing magazine subject to new ideas and the world
of technology and social media. We have different platforms where we support
even the smallest of artists! Our range of able readers are open to a range of
genres which are all included in NOTORIOUS .
Indie-rock is our main focus but we listen to our reader to find out the latest
trending bands and artists, as they know best. Every time we publish we solely
think of out readers and how they will react to our packed magazine each
month!
NOTORIOUS focuses on the social concert goer and their needs as they learn
and grow. Teaching these young adults about safety and health is also what
NOTIORIOUS aims to do. Learning about what dangers there are and how to
avoid them is crucial to a young adults life.
However, don’t call us prissy because each month we provide the sickest
venues for each private warehouse festival that NOTORIOUS readers get to
enter! Don’t worry about our content as we support the smallest and biggest
bands, all featured in our magazine each month.
One you read NOTORIOUS you'll realize what you have been missing out on,
even ask out readers what they think as we are sure it’s gonna be positive.
You’ll keep coming back for more with the range of info we’ve got and behind
the scenes access each month. So, be safe, party hard and stay NOTORIOUS.
The attitude of the magazine NOTORIOUS is going to be daring and bold. Firstly, the text will
mostly be in capitals to pull the attention of the consumer to the most important aspect of the
magazine. This would be done on the contents and cover as these are the first things the
reader look at. The colours of the text will be bold and highlighted, the attention grabbing
colours made to protrude from the page. As yellow is featured in my colour scheme I can use
this colour to brighten the page of my magazine and attract attention. My artists will reflect
this attitude with the costumes and poses throughout the magazine. My magazine is indie-rock
which can be seen as a laid back rebelliousness. This will be show through the layout of my
magazine. For example, the contents page would be have yellow fragments to suggest a laid
back atmosphere yet the black aspects would contrasting this adding darkness to the page
bringing the rockier element in. Indie people are known for being quite artsy so I will try to
encapsulate this into my contents page using spray paint and dry brush marks over the
contents to illustrate the mentality of the people who read my magazine.
The style of my magazine will be similar to that of magazines such as NME or KERRANG! This
includes interviews, articles, reviews and competitions. The pages in my magazines will mostly
be made up of text, as the most popular answer in from my questionnaire was articles. This
shows how the readers are mature and do not just reply on ‘pictures’ like someone immature
would like a child. Although, images were rated second highest so I will have to include a range
of images throughout the magazine so that the reader would be satisfied. Competitions are a
large part of my magazine so I will feature one competition each month that will have a place
within the regulars on the contents page.
I have finished the pitch of my magazine so my
next piece of coursework will be my organising
which will explain location scouting, planning of
models, costume, lighting and kit list.

  • 2. The working title of the magazine I am creating is NOTORIOUS. NOTORIOUS means famous or well known, typically for some bad quality or deed. Synonyms for this include infamous or scandalous, I thought that either or these would suit the tone of my magazine, although I think that NOTORIOUS echoes the genre which I have chosen. My music magazine is centered around indie-rock which is why I have chosen this working title. Often rock has negative connotations which is directly reflected by the working title. Including indie is going to broaden the amount of consumers that would buy the magazine, this genre was also highly popular in the results of my survey monkey questionnaire. The genre indie-rock has many artists which I could include within my magazine and mention. Using well known indie-rock bands such as The Strokes and Radiohead, the reader will be able to connect with the magazine as they will already know these artists. Including a large feature article around a indie-rock band would primarily be a large part of the magazine. The publication pattern of NOTORIOUS would be monthly with 120 pages which would contain a plethora of information about indie and rock bands. I have chosen to have a monthly publication pattern as I feel as if I will be able to have a higher quality of information within my magazine as I would have a month to gather it all. This will be further explained in the ‘contents’ My target audience is women within the ages of 16-23, mostly 16-18 year olds answered my survey monkey questionnaire however, I think that adding another five years on top on the previous age range will expand my magazine, and the information which I can add in . I think that I would be able to do this as KERRANG! is well known within the age range of 16-18 even though it has a reader profile of 23 it still appeals to those younger. I plan that my magazine will include the same kind of information that KERRANG’1 will, so this explains my choice for and extra 5 years. I will be able to appeal to this age range as I am also within it and will know the likes and interest with addition to my previous research which I have done. Due to the monthly publication date the price would be £4.50 which is within the range for my ‘perfect reader’ This range is available for ages 16-18 as many have part time jobs or money given from parents, additionally the ages older than 18 will have jobs or be in university so this price is also suitable for 18+. The ABC1 profile suggests that over 39% of older teens are within this range, an as a result the magazine would e easily affordable, if it were just ages 16-18 the ABC1 profile would not be that high as many of these girls are still in school/college This pitch document will include information about my music magazine which I am currently planning. It will include; the working title, publication pattern, target audience and intended contents of the magazine.
  • 3. Emily is 17 and lives in York. She loves music so much that she persuaded her parents to let her go to Leeds Festival last year. She has a part-time job working in Subway on the weekends and gets 6.20 an hour, overall she gets 65 pounds for it. Although, she has only recently started so her parents paid for her ticket to the festival. She doesn’t have a large disposable income so Emily tries not to spend all the money she earns at once. Some of it just seems to disappear after she has gone out for the day and often she is left with nothing! Spending time with her friends is very important as they can be fast paced and make plans without her, this means she uses the internet and social media to keep up-to date on her favourite artists. She reads the highly popular magazine KERRANG! every week, and on the off chance she doesn’t have the money left, she will lend her friends. Emily is currently in college so she has to keep her mind thinking, so she enjoys reading the articles most in her magazines. Her favourite band is Foals who she swears looked at her whilst playing on stage last year. This indie group is very popular amongst her friends also who also like the same type of music as Emily. Her mum and dad love rock which has been passed onto Emily and her brothers as they’ve grown up listening to it. They dislike classical as it doesn’t really appeal to Emily’s teenage tastes, she calls it ‘prissy music’
  • 4. The music magazine NOTORIOUS would have a plethora of information which would be aimed at young teens. As NOTORIOUS is published once a month there would have to be a lot of relevant content which reflects the chosen genre. Here, that is indie-rock. This would largely include reviews, competitions and artist interviews. These interviews would be based around upcoming or famous indie artists or bands and would spread for at least a double page. Including this would be pleasant for the reader as they would be able to find out more information about their favourite artists. If a mixture of unconventional questions are asked within an interview this means that the topic would have never be covered before in a prior magazine. In addition, interviews would not only be of larger bands and artists but smaller ones so that NOTORIOUS can act as a social platform for them as this would help the artist gain recognition. Articles will also heavily feature within my magazine as this was the highest rated answer on my survey monkey questionnaire. This will range from articles written by professional writers or eve the readers using language which will be easily understood by the consumers, any topic can be discussed. Reviews of albums or simply EP’s/singles would also help the consumer decide if they should buy the product, as a professional source of critique would help the teen into their decision. Also, my magazine would include different competitions each month to entice the consumer to buy it as they are still a teen. Competitions are likely to be entered by teens as it is unlikely that they will be able to afford festival/concert tickets, plus free albums and signed tee’s would be a benefit and memorabilia for the consumer. My magazine will also include a section on safety, contrasting to the name of the magazine NOTORIOUS. It would feature, much less elaborately named, something as ‘what not to do at festivals’ so that the consumer is not off put by the idea of the section being named ‘safety’ I think . that this would be helpful for the adolescent ages as they will be drinking, partying and / going to festivals. Although, my magazine will not include plugs, or freebies, this is due to / the negative responses attained from my survey monkey questionnaire. This answer was . not chosen at all which highlights that the target audience would not be bothered if such . things did not make an appearance in the magazine.
  • 5. Here I begin adding in some inspirational ideas which I would like to reflect within my magazine. On this slide I have placed magazines which I like the layout of. In addition, these are all magazines which are from the UK. This is helpful as I am inspired y the magazines that people around me read. I think that this is good as I will be able to relate when I am creating my magazine.
  • 6. Most of the adverts in the magazine would primarily and clearly be about music. Here are a few which I think would be suitable to be placed within my music magazine. In addition to this, ADVERTS was the third most popular answer in my questionnaire which indicates how I should think about type of adverts. I have included different types of adverts, some are band tour promotions which could feature in my magazine, although this would evidently be less consistent as there would not be hundreds of tours every month. In addition, there are also adverts about album and EP releases, this would be perfect for my magazine as if it was the genre indie or rock the consumer would also like these adverts. These inspirational ideas help me to understand what type of content would be in my magazine and enable the reader to be interested by the adverts.
  • 7. Not only will the adverts within the magazine surround music like the prior slide, they will also be based around food and travelling. I would include these as the interview results showed how the target audience also had great interest in both cuisine and travel. 100% of the interviewees showed interest in travel whilst 66% showed interest in cuisine. Here are some adverts which I think would fit in NOTORIOUS
  • 8. NOTORIOUS is an ever changing magazine subject to new ideas and the world of technology and social media. We have different platforms where we support even the smallest of artists! Our range of able readers are open to a range of genres which are all included in NOTORIOUS . Indie-rock is our main focus but we listen to our reader to find out the latest trending bands and artists, as they know best. Every time we publish we solely think of out readers and how they will react to our packed magazine each month! NOTORIOUS focuses on the social concert goer and their needs as they learn and grow. Teaching these young adults about safety and health is also what NOTIORIOUS aims to do. Learning about what dangers there are and how to avoid them is crucial to a young adults life. However, don’t call us prissy because each month we provide the sickest venues for each private warehouse festival that NOTORIOUS readers get to enter! Don’t worry about our content as we support the smallest and biggest bands, all featured in our magazine each month. One you read NOTORIOUS you'll realize what you have been missing out on, even ask out readers what they think as we are sure it’s gonna be positive. You’ll keep coming back for more with the range of info we’ve got and behind the scenes access each month. So, be safe, party hard and stay NOTORIOUS.
  • 9. The attitude of the magazine NOTORIOUS is going to be daring and bold. Firstly, the text will mostly be in capitals to pull the attention of the consumer to the most important aspect of the magazine. This would be done on the contents and cover as these are the first things the reader look at. The colours of the text will be bold and highlighted, the attention grabbing colours made to protrude from the page. As yellow is featured in my colour scheme I can use this colour to brighten the page of my magazine and attract attention. My artists will reflect this attitude with the costumes and poses throughout the magazine. My magazine is indie-rock which can be seen as a laid back rebelliousness. This will be show through the layout of my magazine. For example, the contents page would be have yellow fragments to suggest a laid back atmosphere yet the black aspects would contrasting this adding darkness to the page bringing the rockier element in. Indie people are known for being quite artsy so I will try to encapsulate this into my contents page using spray paint and dry brush marks over the contents to illustrate the mentality of the people who read my magazine. The style of my magazine will be similar to that of magazines such as NME or KERRANG! This includes interviews, articles, reviews and competitions. The pages in my magazines will mostly be made up of text, as the most popular answer in from my questionnaire was articles. This shows how the readers are mature and do not just reply on ‘pictures’ like someone immature would like a child. Although, images were rated second highest so I will have to include a range of images throughout the magazine so that the reader would be satisfied. Competitions are a large part of my magazine so I will feature one competition each month that will have a place within the regulars on the contents page.
  • 10. I have finished the pitch of my magazine so my next piece of coursework will be my organising which will explain location scouting, planning of models, costume, lighting and kit list.
