The target audience for the magazine is teenagers aged 17-29, especially those interested in indie music. Examples of potential readers included university students Amber and David who enjoy artists featured in the magazine like Lana Del Rey and Sam Smith.
The author aimed to attract this audience through promotions like competitions advertised on the cover, listing popular artists inside, and an affordable price of £0.99-£1.99. The contents page was designed to be easy to navigate with page numbers and categories. Articles used headlines and quotes to encourage reading, and included images of artists. EASY TUTORIAL OF HOW TO USE G-TEAMS BY: FEBLESS HERNANE
Who are your target audience and how did you attract and address them?
1. Who are your target audience
and how did you attract and
address them?
Question 4&5
2. Target audience
• The audience that I have aimed my magazine for are
teenagers from 17 years old to people in their late 20’s and
early 30’s. This is because my magazine has a mature tone to
it, therefore I wanted to make It for people who would
understand it.
• The magazine also will also include only young artists in their
20’s who are popular in the Indie genre; that I have done for
my magazine.
3. An example of a person who would buy my magazine:
Amber and David are both in their early
20’s.They are the sort of people that would
buy my Indie-pop magazine. They are both in
university studying photography and art.
Amber is interested in Lana Del Rey, and
David enjoys listening to Sam Smith.
David and Amber both are fans of Arctic Monkeys and love their music.
Amber recently bought Lana Del Rey concert
tickets to her upcoming UK tour.
David bought Sam Smiths new album ‘In The
Lonely Hour’.
4. Amber and David would be the type of people I would expect to
buy my indie pop magazine because their age fits in the target
audience that I have chose. Also they are both interested in
artists that are mentioned in my magazine.
They both seem to enjoy concerts and purchasing new CD’s of
their favorite artists. Therefore my magazine would attract them
both because they have the opportunity to win concert tickets,
signed posters, and CD’s in every month’s issue all for free.
5. How did I attract and addressmy audience
I tried to attract my audience with my
front cover by:
• Including the competitions on the
cover, the readers might see that
and might buy the magazine just to
try to win the free tickets or CDs.
• Included what’s inside; e.g.
posters. This may attract people
who enjoy collecting posters of
their favorite artists.
• Mentioning a few of the big artists
that are in the magazine, this may
suggest to the reader that this is a
well known magazine if big
celebrities have been interviewed
for it.
• The price of the magazine. It’s
cheap and the readers will prefer
to buy a magazine that they don’t
have to pay a lot for.
6. I tried to attract my audience with
my contents page by:
• Including an easy way of
navigating around the magazine:
Page numbers are visible
because of the boxes around
them which makes them stand
out more. Also the reader can
easily look under the categories
and know where what is.
• Included a website address of
the magazine. If the reader
wants to find out more about
the magazine, see live
performances and tour dates
then they can go onto the
website.
• Included images from the main
articles in the magazine which
will attract the audience to read
on because these are the ‘big’
celebrities in the industry.
7.
8. I tried to attract my audience with my double page article by:
• Making the headline the artists name and the subheading
short and snappy that describes the artist on the image in a
few words. This will hopefully interest the reader to know
more about the artist and read the article.
• The main body text is small, the font is simple to read and is
one colour (the article) this is hopefully attracting the
audience by it being easy for them to read.
• The title of the article is a quote from the article which the
artist responded to as an answer to a question. I used this to
attract the audience because the quote is inspirational and It
will maybe then make the audience read the article to find out
more about the artist.
9. How much would you pay for
a music magazine?
£
I I I I I I £0.99-£1.99
I I I I I I I £2.99-£3.99
I I I I £4.99+
I I I Other
This is a questioner I did about how much people would buy a music magazine for,
it shows a variety of different prices, and how many people would spend on what
price. This is a questioner with 20 people and 7 of the people chose the price
range that my magazine is in.
This is the way I have tried to attract my audience, is by creating a price for the
magazine reasonable so everyone can afford it.
10. Use of language
The use of language on both my cover and my contents page are
colloquial. It’s very simple and not too detailed. Therefore the
readers won’t get bored reading it. This is also because I wanted
my audience to feel a connection with the magazine. I have also
created an editors letter that would create a connection
between the editor and the audience.
11. The audience of my magazine are addressed through a rang of forms,
conventions and other qualities throughout my magazine. The language and
text and the images used in my article are the main features that address
them. The language is more formal than informal so the audience take the
magazine seriously. Furthermore, the main image on the article page is
supposed to show the readers how serious the artist is about her job which
relates to her answers in the Q&A. The style addresses the conventions of
indie pop and allows the audience to relate to the main artist. On top of this
my content features more talk about the future, for example:
• Tours
• Albums
• Festivals
This allows the reader to feel part of it as they can see what their favourite
artists have planned for the future, and how they can get connected with
them. The colloquial tone of the answers and friendly nature of the text allow
a genre specific feel that the audience can relate to and feel comfortable
reading.
