The document discusses feedback received by a film group on their target audience and promotional materials at various stages of development. It received initial feedback on its pitch presentation which helped them refine the film name and understand what to include. Rough cut feedback highlighted issues with sound/music levels and title visibility. Final feedback on the trailer, poster and magazine praised the brand identity, narrative, and editing while noting some minor soundtrack cuts. The film group found the overall feedback hugely helpful to improve their work and understand how to emphasize or cut back on certain elements.

1. What have I learned from
our audience feedback?
By Hannah Hughes
2. Film Industry Feedback
It is thoroughly important for a film industry to cater
to their target audience as they are the consumers
who are most likely to watch the film again and
again, this proving that the audience would then buy
this on DVDs later on, therefore generating more
revenue. It's also an opportunity to invest in a wider
target market than the established target
market. The feedback given and suggestions provide
the filmmakers an idea on what they need to add to
sell the film to as many people as possible.
3. Target Audience Relating
For our ideal target audience, we planned it
to appeal to a younger audience around the
age range of 20's and younger. We believe
that our teaser trailer would has aspects
that would have relatable issues of interest
such as alcohol, drugs, violence and gang
culture. The main character in our trailer is
a teenager, which would also have relatable
aspects to it, such as teenage issues that
would appeal to a specific age range.
4. Target Audience Age
Our target audience would most likely be under 25-year-old males, as well as
people who live in an urban setting since this is the part of society that will be
able to relate to our film. From doing research for our pitch presentation, we
discovered that the younger audiences have been known to attend cinemas more,
this would help our film in the box office as well. While for the exit poll data in
the UK shows that 158 people under the age of 25 watch a film of a similar genre
(Kidulthood), while 53 were over 25.
5. Pitch Feedback
We received 3 different ways
of receiving feedback. This is from our pitch
presentation, rough cut and our final
screening. For our first pitch presentation,
we received verbal feedback from our class.
There were 8 main aspects of feedback that
we took in place and I developed upon in my
feedback analysis on my journal post
entry; Monday, 02 October 2017, 8:38 AM.
6. We received questions on the type of setting we were planning to include in
our trailer, the question being where we would show this and how we would show this.
This made us realise that there were aspects that our group hadn't thought through and
needed to incorporate. We also received positive feedback, saying that our idea
sounded really interesting and different, along with a good branding idea. When
presenting our pitch, our original plan was to call our teaser 'Split', however once we
received feedback, we discovered that the name is already an existing film, and
because of this we had to change our film name.
7. Further questions were asked, such as what crime would take place, and we fully
explained the different examples that would happen, as well as how we'd work around
it when it came to filming. By explaining our idea to the person who asked the
question, it encourages us to sell our film and to be enthusiastic about it. While a final
piece of feedback was a suggestion that our group could have included to make it
better, or a suggestion that we could think about and work on, this being that the main
character is a well-known student, compared to being isolated and lonely. All this
feedback was defiantly helpful as it encouraged us to feel more confident about our
teaser trailer, as well as us given feedback that we could question and points that we
would work upon to make our trailer better.
8. Rough Cut Feedback
The second source of feedback we were given was
through our rough cut, to be given different
opinions on our work. By having these different
opinions, it would show a fresh perspective and
different feedback ideas that we need to work
upon that we might have missed or didn't make
sense. We were given feedback on pieces of
paper which had a series of questions regarding
the conventions of the teaser trailer, poster and
magazine, as well as how believable they
looked and what we needed to improve on.
9. For our teaser trailer, the feedback we were given was mostly positive and encouraging for
our group, but the improvements that we needed to work on was the sound and music which
was too loud. This feedback was helpful because our rough cut was shown on the big screen, so
our group were also able to see what obvious improvements we needed to work on. For the
magazine and poster feedback, most of the responses we were given was positive, such as use
of colours and the layout, which looked identical to an existing magazine cover. The
improvements that we needed to work on, was to improve on the title as it wasn't as obvious as
people thought it could be, due to it being hidden by the background.
10. Final Screening Feedback
Our last source of feedback was from our main and final products that we finished
were given to our group on YouTube under our final teaser trailer. We roughly
received 11 different comments that was based on our discussion of our teaser
trailer, poster and magazine cover.
11. An example of a response is; "The theme and genre of the trailer is presented
successfully. I love the narrative and the contrast of the two characters and how
the soundtrack reflects it. The editing is smooth with no clear mistakes. It follows
the conventions of a teaser trailer and a teen drama genre. The soundtrack cut at
some points but I didn't know if it was for effect, if so it worked well and had an
impact. I really love both the poster and magazine and I can see a clear brand
identity by use of colours and characters." This was very encouraging, as it shows
how we have improved and changed around our products in order to receive this
positive feedback.
12. How Helpful is the
Overall Feedback?
All of the final and overall feedback has
helped hugely because it has been able to
give us a better understanding of our own
products, showing that at some points we
would need to emphasise certain features
or cut back on dramatic music and sound.
The feedback has been so helpful, that it
makes us proud of the work that we have
produced.
