2. What were you trying to achieve in your main production?
Was this also reflected in the two advertising products?
For our main production, we tried to make a five minute film around a story
that follows a man named Chuck, who goes through a patch of bad luck,
however, his luck changes for the better after finding a lucky coin in the street.
The poster created for The Coin shows what the story is set around as it
includes a closeup shot of the coin on the floor, emphasising its importance
because it is the main focus point of the poster.
3. Name of the actors at
the top of the poster
Title of the film in bold
and large font – a short
film title is also
memorable for people
that see the poster
The main focus of the
film is also the main
focus of the poster. It
is also an unusual coin
so it will draw in
peoples’ attention
Age rating, film
website and the
production logo give
more information
into the film and who
made it
4. How effective do you think the film poster is at
selling your film?
• I think that the film poster does well at selling our film. While there isn’t much on the poster, I
feel that the mystery of only seeing a coin will entice a larger audience if they don’t know what to
expect.
• The film poster also includes information about the release date of the film, and gives more
insight into what the film is like by showing the age rating and the production company logo.
• In my opinion the film poster would benefit if it were to include reviews from people that have
seen the film already, as more people will be more willing to watch a film with good reviews.
• Overall the film poster does sell the film well and gives information regarding the film and what it
is about, however I feel that it could do a better job if it had more information and reviews on it.
5. How effective do you think the radio trailer is
at selling your film?
• The radio trailer for our film includes the music from the film, as well as sound bites
from the three characters that are the source of bad luck for Chuck, with all three
characters saying “I’m sorry”. This pulls the listener in as they want to know why
they are sorry and why Chuck has had three people tell him they’re sorry. It also
includes a voiceover containing the line “When nothing is going your way, all you
need is The Coin.” this gives more information about the film as the audience now
knows that the story involves a lucky coin.
• It also gives information about the release date and the age rating of the film, which
helps sell the film as it is a PG film being released in the summer, which could be
targeted towards a younger audience not in school.
