WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM YOUR
AUDIENCE FEEDBACK?
Focus group on song for music video
 After deciding with the artist on the song I was going to use for my media
product, I conducted a focus group, in order to gain ideas of what people
would expect to see in a video for a song of its genre.
 The feedback I got for this, was that the video should move in a slow pace
and use thought beats, in order to fit with the song and the theme of the
song.
 As the song is about love, but it being lost, members of my focus group
thought a black and white video would be effective as it is not a ‘happy’
topic. I took this advice on board and thought the black and white theme
was a good choice, and my theme is heavily based on that. My ancillary
texts are also black and white, keeping with the theme of love lost.
Feedback on first draft of music video
 Positive feedback on my first draft, was that the story was clear and
portrayed what the lyrics were saying. I was credited for having a
narrative and performance that linked together.
 The main element that was called on for improvement, was the lighting of
the performance element of my media product. I flew to Ireland to film the
performance element of my music video as well as taking pictures for my
ancillary tasks. This was done in a three day period. Due to the camera I
had borrowed from the school being faulty and not filming, I had to use
my backup camera for this. This instantly meant that the quality of the
performance element went down, unfortunately. Due to my artist living in
another country, it was therefore very difficult to be able to re-film this.
Using a main source of light rather than a lamp would also have helped
me to gain better lighting, so in future to improve, I would use a bigger
light source.
Feedback on final video
 The audience feedback I have gained from my final
product has been mostly positive. Something
frequently mentioned was the video being easy to
understand and the video tying into the lyrics, and
having a good relationship. Having the black and
white theme has been well received and unquestioned
a people feel it relates to the lyrics of the song.
 Feedback has also told me that keeping the video
simple allows the song to shine through and its
meaning.
Constructive feedback in order to improve.
 I have received constructive

future.
 Some feedback made me aware
that people would have liked more
of the narrative element and to
see the background story or the
actress and why she was the way
she was.
 Suggestions to improve also
revolved around camera shots and
angles. The journey being had by
both the artist and actress could
have been taken further with
techniques to make the journey
seem longer and more effective.
 I found this very helpful.
Audience feedback for ancillary tasks.
 The audience feedback I have received
for my ancillary tasks has been very
positive.
 I felt it was important for the video and
promotional material to be recognisable
to each other holding the same theme.

  • 1. Evaluation 3 WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM YOUR AUDIENCE FEEDBACK?
  • 2. Focus group on song for music video  After deciding with the artist on the song I was going to use for my media product, I conducted a focus group, in order to gain ideas of what people would expect to see in a video for a song of its genre.  The feedback I got for this, was that the video should move in a slow pace and use thought beats, in order to fit with the song and the theme of the song.  As the song is about love, but it being lost, members of my focus group thought a black and white video would be effective as it is not a ‘happy’ topic. I took this advice on board and thought the black and white theme was a good choice, and my theme is heavily based on that. My ancillary texts are also black and white, keeping with the theme of love lost.
  • 3. Feedback on first draft of music video  Positive feedback on my first draft, was that the story was clear and portrayed what the lyrics were saying. I was credited for having a narrative and performance that linked together.  The main element that was called on for improvement, was the lighting of the performance element of my media product. I flew to Ireland to film the performance element of my music video as well as taking pictures for my ancillary tasks. This was done in a three day period. Due to the camera I had borrowed from the school being faulty and not filming, I had to use my backup camera for this. This instantly meant that the quality of the performance element went down, unfortunately. Due to my artist living in another country, it was therefore very difficult to be able to re-film this. Using a main source of light rather than a lamp would also have helped me to gain better lighting, so in future to improve, I would use a bigger light source.
  • 4. Feedback on final video  The audience feedback I have gained from my final product has been mostly positive. Something frequently mentioned was the video being easy to understand and the video tying into the lyrics, and having a good relationship. Having the black and white theme has been well received and unquestioned a people feel it relates to the lyrics of the song.  Feedback has also told me that keeping the video simple allows the song to shine through and its meaning.
  • 5. Constructive feedback in order to improve.  I have received constructive feedback in order to improve for future.  Some feedback made me aware that people would have liked more of the narrative element and to see the background story or the actress and why she was the way she was.  Suggestions to improve also revolved around camera shots and angles. The journey being had by both the artist and actress could have been taken further with techniques to make the journey seem longer and more effective.  I found this very helpful.
  • 6. Audience feedback for ancillary tasks.  The audience feedback I have received for my ancillary tasks has been very positive.  I felt it was important for the video and promotional material to be recognisable to each other holding the same theme.
