What have you learned from your audience feedback?
1. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED
FROM YOUR AUDIENCE
FEEDBACK?
Tom Birtles
2. THE BENEFITS OF FEEDBACK
•Feedback that provides constructive criticism is a helpful way to see how to
improve work
•Asking an audience to provide feedback on a first draft allowed me to
improve my final music video
•Feedback also allows me to merge my own ideas with the audiences and
create a over all better piece combining a group of peoples ideas
3. FIRST DRAFT
POSITIVE FEEDBACK
•It came across from the feedback that the
audience overall enjoyed the video and were
very engaged
•The audience also liked the idea of having a
dog as one of the actors as it isn’t that
commonly seen in music videos and it helped
to give off a happy feeling to the video
•The audience also liked the storyline of the
music video and the ending looking over the
sea, which they said it showed it resembled the
end of the video
4. FIRST DRAFT
NEGATIVE FEEDBACK
•Some of the audience commented on the shots of
Jack who lip synced the song and his mouth not
being clear enough
•They also commented on some of the shots of
Pippa and Penny being too long meaning they lost
interest at some parts of the video
•The audience also suggested that some shots could
be moved to fit in with the lyrics to keep the music
video relevant to the song
•I also got comments from other media students that
my music video didn’t contain the necessary
conventions such as promotions for the music video
and the artists name and the record label
• If this was a new record label or an undiscovered
artist this would be a needed convention so that
the audience can discover new music from the
artist or the label
5. AFTER FEEDBACK
•After listening to the positive and negative
feedback I used this to improve my music video
• I listened to the positive feedback and made sure that I
made sure to keep all parts that the audience liked or
improved it to make it even more enjoyable for the
audience
• With the negative feedback I used this as constructive
criticism to make improvements to my video to improve
the quality
•As the audience said that Jacks lip syncing
could be improved I refilmed all of his parts and
filmed each section atleast 3 times so I could
pick the best shots out, overall this worked well
and he took the feedback and improved his lip
syncing which helped to improve his parts
6. AFTER FEEDBACK
•The audience also commented on some shots being too
long, because of this I cut the longer shots down and
replaced them with other shots that didn’t originally make
it into the edit, as the song is fast paced this helped to
keep the video engaging and fast paced to match the
song
•Some shots also could have been moved to be relevant
to the lyrics, e.g. one shot had Pippa playing with the
football that was towards the end of the video but near the
start of the video the lyrics “You must be a football coach,
The way you got me playin' the field” because of this I
swapped the clips around, I did this to quite a few of the
clips which helped to keep the video linked to the lyrics
7. AFTER FEEDBACK
•Some media students also picked up that I
hadn’t added in the artists name, the record
label and a promotion for the CD. After listening
to this feedback I added in the record labels
logo onto the first shot, I did this on the centre
of the screen as a focus point for the audience,
on the second shot I also did the same for the
artists name and the song title. For the final
shot I included the album cover with 3 logos for
Spotify, iTunes and Youtube to show where the
video can be streamed, the final shot then
fades to black with the promotion still on screen
so the promotion lasts a while allowing the
audience to see the whole thing.
