What was your project brief?
• Our project brief was to create a short film
(music video, short film, documentary) and
plan the development and to edit footage and
  to have a complete product.
• For the project I chose to create a music video
as it seemed the most suitable one to create.
• We could chose any song for the music video
at this stage I didn’t know what one I was
  going to use.
Planning and Research?
• After deciding what I was going to create for
the project the next step was to start planning
and do research for the project.
• The research included looking to what are
music videos, why were they first made, what
the main aspects of them are etc.
• From this I learned such things as three act
  structure etc.
Research
• The research included looking in to music videos and
finding out the main conventions of them and what
you expect to be in them.
• Whilst doing the research I looked at the most
expensive music videos ever created, to compare them
to lower budgeted ones to see the differences.
• I looked at a couple of websites which had there top 10
  music videos of all-time.
• As from this I was able to look the music videos from
there list and see why they thought was so good about
  them
Research
• A important part of the research was looking
at examples of music videos and doing
technical analysis of some of them.
• In the research I done technical analysis on
songs by The Kooks and Arctic Monkeys, this
because at this stage in the project I was going
to use a song from one of The Kooks or Arctic
  Monkeys.
Research – What song to use?
• After speaking to my teacher I decided to use
a different type of song for the music video.
• As the songs I was going to use weren’t the
most interesting, which I mean by the lyrics
and the concept of the songs.
• I chose to use a song by The National called
Sorrow, it’s a very different to the songs I have
  going to use.
Lyric Analysis
• By doing a lyric analysis for the song I could
break the song up in to different sections.
• The song could be about a few different things
such as a break up, a person remembering
there past etc. The lyrics express different
  types of emotions in them.
• An example is “Sorrow the put me on the pills.
It's in my honey it's in my milk.”
• The pills referring to drugs or medicine they
  didn’t need.
The idea
• My idea for the music video was to try and
relate it the lyrics in the song.
• Which I mean a person in the music video
keeps seeing there past memories. E.g. by
  seeing objects from there childhood.
• I did come up with other ideas but his
seemed the best one to use at the time.
• I also had to choose suitable locations to film
  the music video.
How well did you manage your project?
• I think I managed my project reasonable well,
there were a couple of occasions were I could
have managed it a bit better.
• Trying to find someone to be in the music video I
found was very hard, I asked many people and
could find anyone who wanted to be in the music
  video.
• If I was a bit quicker with the planning and
research I could have filmed earlier which could
possibly have meant I would have finished the
music video earlier than I did.
What resources did I use?
• The internet was my main resources using
websites like Youtube for looking at examples
of music videos this was for the research and
  planning.
• I also used the internet to research about
music videos and for the lyric analysis.
• Other resources were the HD camera I used to
film the footage for the music video.
Develop and realise?
• The idea for the music did change a few times
from the early stages of the project to even
when I was filming the last few shots for the
  music video.
• But by going to film more footage when I done
  the first edited helped massively.
• This was because the first edited didn’t look
like a music video and it needed more footage
and wasn’t suited to the original idea of the
  music video.
Narrative
• The narrative of the music video was about a
person who is walking through a location from
his past, where he keeps seeing flashbacks of
  his past childhood.
• By seeing objects/items from his childhood
  and different memories.
• I came up with narrative for the music video
to try and relate it to the song.
Review your project?
• I thought some of the shots were filmed quite well
compared to previous time when I’ve filmed and they
  haven’t that successful.
• The lack of characters/people in the project is a weakness
as normally in music videos you would see more
people/characters than just the one in my project.
• There were many thins I could improve on such as more
footage as the music video wasn’t the longest only just over
  three minutes long.
• Another improvement could have more of a range of
different types of shots as this would have made it look
  more a real music video.
Areas For Improvement
• I mentioned in the previously slide some areas for
improvement for the music video if I made the
  music video again.
• Another improvement could be using another
location which would have meant I had used
three very different locations in the music video.
• One of improvement could have been trying to
get the shots to link in with one another.
• As in the music video they didn’t link in that well
which in music videos are normally do.
• Whilst making the music video I think I have
improved filming and editing because previously I
wasn’t that good at either of them.
