I first really recognized the fight for social justice on June 25, 2013. This was the
day Wendy Davis defended reproductive rights at the Texas Capitol for 13 hours. I
grew up in a politically active climate, but watching a livestream of the Texas
Legislature that night had more of an effect on me than anything I had done or
witnessed before. I am interested in the Bridging Disciplines Program s Human Rights
and Social Justice certificate because from that night on I have become aware of the
incredible amount of injustice in the world. For a little while, I wanted to be a public
official like Wendy Davis. However, after I started taking classes at UT, I immediately
became interested in court cases. Especially, I loved the class Supreme Court and
Public Policy. It struck me that most human rights victories came from the courts
rather than the legislature. Just three years after the filibuster, this proved true to me

character in Beowulf who was affected by death was Wiglaf. Our glorious king! By

death. This shows Wiglaf s loyalty to Beowulf, and how he truly cared about

island. The boys left on the island could care less about the fact that those two boys
were killed and that blood was on their hands. Those boys were even excited about

History of Spectroscopy =======================
Spectroscopy has been used as a method of quantitative chemical analysis before the
beginning of the twentieth century. Spectroscopy started in 1666 when Sir Isaac
Newton passed rays of light from the sun through a glass prism and observed the
colours of the visible spectrum, another great breakthrough concerning spectroscopy
was the suggestion of transition between energy levels within atoms as the source of
spectral lines was great contribution made by Niels Bohr in 1913. At the end of the
nineteenth century, spectroscopy was limited to the absorption, emission, and the

elements of the play come into sharper focus. Hamlet s beliefs about himself and his
crisis over indecision are expounded upon by the binary oppositions created in his
soliloquies. Hamlet s first soliloquy comes in act one scene two, as Hamletreflects on
the current state of events. The chief focus of this soliloquyis essentially the
rottenness of the king, queen and the world in general. In this passage the reader is
introduced to Hamlet pseudo obsession with death and suicide, which later will

Though such strong comparisons to romanticized and mythical figures could are
partially simple hyperbole, they also underscore some of the insecurity in Hamlet s
character. The value in recognizing this comes as Hamlet descends into his
madness, whether real or imaginary, where the reader can see that, even before
Hamlet deliberately decides to appear to be mad he has certain issues and
insecurities with his own feelings. Even more significantly, this passage begins to
elaborate on Hamlet s relationship with his mother. Gertrude represents an interesting
dilemma for the deconstructionist critic, as she does not create or involve herself in
many conflicts or oppositions. She manages to significantly affect the plot and the
subtext of the play while seeming almost insignificant as a character at first glance
through the deconstructionist lens. She does not overtly affect events, and often
plays the victim of circumstance. This very insignificance creates an issue for
Hamlet, who is clearly quite disgusted with her behavior. He vehemently
disapproves of the speed of her marriage to Claudius, saying that a beast, that wants
discourse of reason, / Would have mourned longer (1.2.150 1), but can find no other
strong criticism of her other than how fast she remarried. This strikes at the

An American dream is a wonderful aspect to have. We may have one at a specific
moment in our lives, or when a desire becomes deep. In Herman Hesse s
Siddhartha, the main character begins with a simple goal and later, extends it with
a series of other desires into his own American dream. Such dream appears to be
filled with spirituality throughout a long, complex journey. On the other hand,
certain people like Brandon King along with Tim Roemer, believe that people take
their paths when they are influenced in several forms. It is as if we are making a
move using by self evaluations and hopes that serve as a guide.

Throughout the time he has been with the Samanas, Siddhartha and his companion

societal expectations. In order to balance them, this protagonist simply decides to
expand his learning capacity. He does this by traveling to Savathi with Govinda.

How Does Dodger Affect Oliver s Life
Similar in the novel Oliver Twist, Oliver had characters that impacted his life greatly,
which also helped to develop his character further. Each of these characters being
Dodger, Fagin and Mr. Brownlow. The first character being Dodger. Dodger was very
important to Oliver s life because he was actually Oliver s first friend ever, but later
Oliver quickly realizes that Dodger was not the best person to be friends with.
Dodger influence Oliver s life badly by showing Oliver how to pickpocket, and other
crimes. Oliver first realizes that Dodger was a bad influence on his life when Dodger
and him are out for a walk. Dodger finds a target on the other side of the street and

Brownlow called after him Thief! Thief! Stop that Thief! (Dickens 66). This goes
to show what kind of person Dodger is. The person that Dodger stole from was Mr.
Brownlow, Mr. Brownlow realized that Oliver did not steal from him, quickly

Oliver was brought to court, it took a lot persuading for the judge to not find
Oliver guilty of this crime [because at that time] children had little status or

Mr.Brownlow gives him a place to stay. This influence Oliver to do his best and
stay out of trouble with the law. These two characters influence Oliver s life by
doing the complete opposite of each other, Dodger did not care where Oliver
ended up as long as he was safe, whereas Mr.Brownlow gave Oliver a place to stay,
and tried to raise him like his own. Mr. Brownlow was similar to Matthew in Anne
of Green Gables because they both wanted give them a place to stay in their time of
