Discursive Essays
Crafting a discursive essay can be a challenging task that demands a combination of analytical
thinking, research skills, and effective communication. Unlike other forms of essays, a discursive
essay requires the writer to explore and present multiple perspectives on a given topic. This
complexity adds a layer of difficulty as it necessitates a comprehensive understanding of the
subject matter, as well as the ability to critically evaluate various arguments.
One of the primary challenges lies in maintaining a balanced approach. A discursive essay often
involves discussing both sides of an issue, and striking the right balance between different
viewpoints can be intricate. It requires finesse to present contrasting arguments without
appearing biased or favoring one perspective over the other. This demands a high level of
objectivity and the ability to analyze information impartially.
Additionally, researching and gathering relevant data to support each viewpoint is crucial. The
essay should be well-grounded in facts, statistics, and examples that bolster the arguments
presented. This process can be time-consuming and requires the writer to delve deep into the
subject, understanding the nuances of each perspective to provide a comprehensive overview.
Structuring a discursive essay also poses a challenge. Arranging the content in a logical and
coherent manner is essential to guide the reader through the different arguments. Creating a clear
introduction that introduces the topic and previews the key arguments, followed by well-
organized body paragraphs that delve into each perspective, and concluding with a succinct
summary, demands careful planning and execution.
Furthermore, maintaining clarity and coherence in language is paramount. Expressing complex
ideas in a clear and concise manner is an art in itself. Writers must be adept at articulating their
thoughts, using language effectively to convey meaning and foster understanding among readers.
In conclusion, writing a discursive essay is a formidable task that requires a combination of
research, critical thinking, and effective communication skills. Successfully navigating the
challenges of presenting multiple perspectives, conducting thorough research, structuring the
essay, and maintaining clarity in language is no small feat.

The Components Of A Mature Understanding Of Death
Midterm
1.Discuss the components of a mature understanding of death, and what factors may
lead to, contribute to, or affect its development.
Death is made up by multiple concepts, which include, universality, irreversibility,
nonfunctionality, causality, and personal mortality. Universality refers to the fact that
all living things must eventually die since death is inevitable. Irreversibility remarks
that death is irrevocable and final. Therefore, no organism that experiences death can
come back to life. Nonfunctionality emphasizes the fact that death implies the
cessation of physiological functions. Once a person dies, all the capabilities and
functions the body has come to an ending. Causality highlights that there are
biological reasons for death that can be internal and external. Internal causes of heath
include diseases and external reasons can often be associated with physical trauma.
Personal mortality is the last component and it is closely related to universality. It
addresses the understanding that one must die as all living things eventually do.
According to The Last Dance, a child gains all components of a mature concept of
death between the ages of seven and ten. However, it is later noted that it is more
reliable to take developmental sequence into consideration instead of age due to the
fact that children develop at different rates. In order for a child to have a mature
understanding of death, it is important for him or her to have experiences regarding
Roy, S Reactions To Conflict In Bernard Malamud s The
Natural
Although Roy is the main character Bernard Malamud s The Natural, we are not
directly told of his past. It is up to the reader to piece together the puzzle and
interpret why Roy acts and responds in the way he does. Roy s mysterious past
makes his responses to conflict the most interesting aspect of this book. There is a
presence of conflict throughout the entire text: adversity with The Whammer ,
Bump, Gus, Memo, the Judge, and his own mental state. Although Roy reacts to
conflict in a variety of ways, the reactions themselves are fueled by one motive.
Roy s overall responses to conflict originate from his devastating past and family
life, in addition to his need to prove to himself that he has purpose. Although we
are not specifically told of Roy s past, Malamud gives away small hints and details
towards what has occurred. It is revealed that Roy was not fond of his mother, and
that she had a bad influence on him. Roy describes his mother as a whore that
spoiled [his] old man s life (Malamud 179). He goes on by saying that she did not
love anybody, including himself. Roy only lived with his mother for the first
seven years of his life, followed by him moving in with his grandmother. After his
grandmother passed away, he was forced to live in an orphanage. One of the first
characters that is presented as someone Roy looks up to is Sam, and shortly after he
is brought into the picture, Roy witnesses him perish. All of Roy s father figures, his
biological father, his
The Terminator By James Cameron
The Terminator was written by James Cameron and came out in 1984.1 It tells of a
post apocalyptic world dominated by a war between humans and artificially
intelligent robots, called terminators. The movie was produced at the beginning of
the Digital Age, and computer development and use was beginning to increase.
Computercompanies like Apple and Microsoft had recently been founded and some
of the first personal computers were being created. Many wondered if society was
becoming too dependent of technology . In addition to computers, all forms of
technology were rapidly improving during this time period. The Terminatorpredicts
that the relationship between man and computer turns bad when the computer is
given too much power. Ultimately, mankind creates its own downfall. Furthermore,
the terminator is seen as superior to the human characters in the movie. The
Terminator has no feelings of pain, anger, remorse, or any other kind of emotions. It
seems to be a flawless killer, unmatched by its weak creators. The Terminator
embodies people s fears of the advancement of technology and its impact on society.
The Terminator takes place over the course of a week in the 1980s in an unknown
town. The movie is about a robot (a terminator ) that goes back in time to kill a
woman named Sarah Connor and a man named Kyle Reese who tries to save her. The
terminator begins to systematically kill women named Sarah Connor in the city the
movie takes place in. The terminator finds the right
Gender Roles And Stereotypes Have On Women
This paper focuses on gender roles in advertisements and further analyzes the affect
these advertisements have on women. Gender roles refer to the ways in which
individuals are expected to act based on their gender. These roles are very prevalent
in society, and because of this, are also depicted heavily in advertisements. Although
men do receive negative messages from advertisements, this paper focuses more on
women because of the amount of violence and stereotypes that are depicted towards
them in these ads.
What is the history of this topic?
Gender roles and stereotypes are forced upon individuals the moment they are
brought into the world. If an individual is born with female genitalia, they are
automatically labeled as girl and if they have male ... Show more content on

They are then told how to act and look based on these labels, and it is very hard to
escape these expectations. Girls are expected to become mothers and housewives and
be confident but also submissive. Boys are expected to pursue high paying careers
and marry a beautiful woman and be tough. This has been the case since the
beginning of time, with gender roles changing throughout time and throughout
cultures. The primary agents of socialization are parents, peers, social institutions,
and the media (Kimmel 2017). Media is a very important agent to study because
everyone is exposed to some form of media each day, and media is an easy and
accessible way for people to learn things about the world. It has been said that the
advertisement industry has been incorporating gender roles into their campaigns for
approximately 40 years (Browall Nd). Past research has found that in advertisements,
women are given the following attributes: passivity, lack of intelligence and
credibility, deference, shyness and helplessness (Browne 1998). This research has
also found that in advertisements, men appear to be constructive, powerful,
controlling, achieving and autonomous (Browne 1998).
Government Differences In The Government Of Rome And
Rome
Rome had a government that was often in flux, as different challenges were faced
throughout the reign of their empire. Carthage too had many ways that the
government was organized and built upon. Rome and Carthage, however, had vast
differences in their style of governance as well. In the following short paragraphs,
Rome and Carthage s governmentdifferences will be discussed. First, the Roman
government shared some similarities to the Carthaginian government, however, there
were also many differences. The Roman government, on a very basic level was
different then the Carthaginian government. The Romans had a temporary dictator
that could be called on if needed when there was a crisis in terms of warfare. This
dictator could only be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The voting system was along tribal lines. There were also tribal assemblies that
decided on localized matters within the tribe. These had both rich and poor in
them. In this way, although not quite a democracy, more citizens were being heard
than in other countries or cities (Wasson 2017, Para. 10 12). This was how the
Roman government was set up. Second, the Carthaginian government had some
different practices from the Roman government. One of these practices was that
they did not have a temporary dictator like Rome had. Also, the Senate in Carthage
does seem to have had legislative power. They also had to agree with their two
magistrates running the country about a certain decision or they had to pass the
vote on to the popular assembly. Many of the responsibilities of the Senate also
focused heavily on war (Cartwright, 2016, Para. 2 4). There were also special
Senate members who were the magistrates or the ones making and analyzing the
laws. Almost all positions were only available in terms of ruling for a short time.
This was an attempt to curb corruption, although, it did not help as much as had
been hoped (Cartwright, 2016, Para. 5 7). In terms of the Assembly, all that is
known about it is that people had to be citizens and male to join, and their main
responsibilities were to vote on laws among other items that were passed down to
them from the senate and the magistrates. They also helped elect some of the
positions in the government. Carthage
In America, There Is A Huge Educational Gap Between...
In America, there is a huge educational gap between actualizers and strugglers. While
the mass population is told that America is free, strugglers feel the thorns of the lash
of bondage through education. In most schools in America, the foundation for the
type of education entrenched in students is based on two things: socioeconomic
status and geographical location. Consequently, strugglers are forced into a system of
repeated oppression merely because they do not possess the means of capital. They
can be classifies as strugglers because they lack means to consume. According to
Google.com, the denotative definition of a struggler is a person who struggles with

Degrees and their significance is solely based on the education that the given student
received because they will know how to use their degree or lack thereof based on
their primary and secondary education, and strugglers who received a poor education
will be in an unfortunate place.
Poor education in school and no access to money is no excuse to give up because if
one does not have an adequate education, they cannot qualify for a degree that will
potentially elevate their socioeconomic status. Born into a struggler family infested
with homelessness, destitution, and poverty, I chose to educate myself outside of the
classroom because my school failed to provide an adequate education to be
successful in today s world. I chose to study abroad in France, which was a
complete learning experience in itself. Despite being in a struggler school, an
exchange student foundation, American Field Service (AFS), presented the idea of
studying abroad. They offered anyone who wanted to embark on this once in a
lifetime journey a full scholarship of $15,000. Initially, I thought that it was too
good to be true, but I ended up being the only student in my school that went abroad
for a year. After experiencing an entirely different way of life, I recognized the
historical differences of

North Korean Nuclear Program Essay
The North Korean government continues to financially fund the research and testing
of nuclear and ballistic missiles. Little information is known about the North Korean
nuclear program and has been made available to foreign nations due to the secrecy
and isolation of international affairs. The threat of a nuclear strike from North Korea
has become an increasingly serious matter for many nations including the U.S. and its
Asian allies, Japan and South Korea. Currently, there are only nine nations known by
intelligent analysis that possesses the resources to manufacture nuclear weapons
which do include the U.S. However, North Korea is the only nation in the 21st
century to conduct a nuclear missiletest that has been reported by North Korean...

Back in Washington, President Clinton s administration concluded that North Korea
was reviving their nuclear missile program and demanded access to the suspected
facilities being built. Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea, granted access to
multiple locations to U.S. officials for inspection of facilities in exchange for
financial aid and food (Hathaway Tama 724). North Korea s negotiation for aid from
the U.S. does not come as a surprise for the simple fact that citizens living under the
supreme leadership of Kim Jong un live in absolute poverty. Although the state run
government experiences hardship by trying to provide an adequate supply of food for
citizens; the government spends a huge sum of money to maintain a large military
force. North Korea was not pleased with the accusations that they were constructing
underground nuclear development facilities and demanded the U.S. to compensate a
large sum of financial aid to the state government for defamation. The nation demand
for $300 million or other economic benefits and food aid equivalent to that amount is
claimed very just, because once [North Koreans] open an object, which is very

Ministry Of Love
Nineteen Eighty Four is one of the most famous dystopian novels written by George
Orwell in 1949. This novel depicts a desperate society where the public is
manipulated by the government coercion. Although this novel is fictional, but we
have seen many scenes depicted in the novel come true in some countries around the
world. Under government coercion, the protagonist Winston lives a miserable life
with no freedom even in his own thoughts, because everyone is forced to believe
what the government told them instead of developing their own thoughts. However,
Winston is different from the crowd because he has a rebel heart. He holds his
independent thinking, and refuse to accept the party s brainwashing procedures.

From Winston s response to O Brien s questions in the previous paragraph, it is
demonstrated that he is determined in the revolution, and he is not afraid of
anything but losing Julia. Winston is tortured in the Ministry of Love, but the
torture only destroys his body, his mind is never destroyed. It is the same for all
the prisoners in the Ministry of Love. However, when the prisoners are told that
they will be taken to room 101, they all appear desperate and mentally destroyed.
When the skull faced man is told that he will be sent to room 101, he cried
Comrade! Officer! You don t have to take me to that place! Haven t I told you
everything already? What else is it you want to know? There s nothing I wouldn t
confess, nothing! Just tell me what it is and I ll confess straight off. Write it down
and I ll sign it anything! Not room 101! (Orwell 298). The fact that he would do
anything to prevent himself from going to room 101 illustrates the anticipation of
going to room 101 destroys their mind. The man is starved for weeks, but he
would rather be starved to death than taken to room 101 (Orwell 299). Winston
witnesses the man s desperation, and it builds up his fear of being sent to room
101. Therefore, Winston asks O Brien what is in Room 101? in fear, and O Brien s
answer adds up to his fear You know what is in Room 101, Winston. Everyone knows

No matter if you stay in for one enlistment or two, the depth of the Marine Corps is
unknown so knowledge will continuously flow and it is endless. All Marines get
taught the basics of being a leader in entry level training, but only a few can react
to help form their trait into an elite skill only for them. In order to become the elite
you have to build a Foundation of Values (pg.31) so that respect in all aspects will
become evident between the followers and their leader(s). While setting the
example it does not matter what rank you are, you still show that the standards that
you hold will reflect on who you are as a person and a Marine. Each Marine
chooses how their standards and ways will become beneficial not only to the
Marine Corps, but to themselves also. Why do ethics make conducting a moment
of decision making so hard? At some point and time every Marine will come to a
point in their career or life where the grey area will be the path they choose, but will
not think that it is the right way. Moral and ethic dilemmas are common more and
more each day. Every Marine is taught to be the toughest both physically, and
mentally. The most profound and scariest ability of a Marine is the Quiet Courage.
Even though not everyday a Marine comes to that point, it is a skill that takes time,
blood, sweat and tears to achieve. Physically saying something is important, but body

Analysis Of James Baldwin s Blues For Mister Charlie
James Baldwin in his play Blues for Mister Charlie describes the racial hatred
between the white town and the black town. The play concerns with Richard, a
black man who returns to the South with a gun to recover from drug addiction and
start a new life. Richard carries a gun with him as he returns, but he passes the gun
to his father voluntarily. At the end, Richard was killed by a white man named Lyle
for his provocative behavior. Why is Richard carrying a gun and why did he gives it
to Meridian? Richard is afraid of being exposed as weak and vulnerable because it
will compromise his felt sense of masculinity; therefore, he carries a gun to make his
appearance as a strong man who would never bow down to oppression. Richard was

Unfortunately, he continues to experience discrimination which weakened his
masculinity. Self blame and low self esteem caused his drug addiction. He uses
drugs to mask his vulnerability, and he carries a gun to prove his masculinity.
After struggling in the North, Richard moved back to the Southern town of his
birth to recover from the addiction. He was aware of the racial violence caused by
the Jim Crow Laws. Richard was afraid to end up like his mother, so he carried a
gun with him as he goes back to the South for protection. When his grandmother
found out that he has had the gun for a long time, Richard insists in keeping the
gun and he commanded her not to tell his father, Meridian of the gun. However,
after the interactions with Juanita and Lyle, Richard gives the gun to his father
voluntarily. What causes Richard to change his mind and give the gun to his
father? Given Richard s provocative behavior toward Lyle, one might suggests that
Richard pass the gun to Meridian because he wants to be defenseless. He offends
Lyle hoping that he will retaliates and eventually ends his life. But why would he
want to die? Perhaps because he fails to pursue his dream to become a blues singer
in the place where African American can succeed. In addition, his drug addiction had
made his life a mess and Richard choose to be defenseless just to end the suffering of
discrimination. Instead of passing the gun to people

Functions Of A Steady State Exercise Essay
Assign 3794
3.Steady state exercise is the activity where we perform while maintaining the same
heart and muscle movements. Steady state exercise affects many body functions. If
the steady state exercise performed for months consistently, it will increase the
overall endurance of an individual. The below are the certain physiological functions
affected during steady state:
Cardiac output: The aerobic exercise performed at steady rate causes the body to
increase the amount of blood pumped by the heart. Cardiac output is determined by
stroke volume and heart rate. The Stroke volume is defined as the quantity of
blood pumped at each heart beat, while the body going from rest to steady state
exercise. Cardiac output increases rapidly even more gradually until it reaches a
plateau. By that time we develop an increased number of capillaries, greater opening
of existing capillaries, more effective blood redistribution and increased blood
volume. Due to this, capillaries improve the body ability to deliver oxygen and
nutrients to muscle and also to remove the waste products.
Cardiac output is generally calculated by:
Cardiac output = Heart rate * Stroke volume
Blood pressure: The blood pressure of an individual is affected before and after
reaching the steady state. .There is increase in the systolic and diastolic blood
pressure during steady state. These increases in the pressure represent the pressure in
arteries. This pressure is while the heart is contracting and
Mental Health And Mental Disorders
LP4 Assignment: Healthy People 2020 Shelbi Murphy National American
University Mental health and mental disorders are related in that which they both
deal with the mind, they either have productive or detrimental effects on the
individual. Mental health is basically when an individual is performing and being
productive with in society. The individual has the ability to cope with specific
issues and address those issues without cause. Mental disorders are any condition
that is diagnosable through the DSM 5, and causes mood and behavioral changes.
Mental disorders can have long lasting effects on individuals and can contribute to
many long term disabilities, behavioral issues, impulse control, irrational thought
process, and ineffectively being able to be a productive part of society. Statistics
on Mental Health Disorders Mental disorders are common in the United States
and internationally. An estimated 22.1% of Americans ages 18 and older about 1
in 5 adults suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder in a given year. Approximately
18.8 million American adults, or about 9.5 percent of the U.S. population age 18
and older in a given year, have a depressive disorder. Nearly twice as many women
(12.0 percent) as men (6.6 percent) are affected by a depressive disorder each year.
These figures translate to 12.4 million women and 6.4 million men in the U.S.
(Medicine Net, October 2, 2015). Mental disorders are among the most common
causes of disability. The

Nowadays one of the most important issues is preservation of biodiversity. Although
most of the damages to our environment were made in the past, since there were less

the world heritage. So, it must be the duty, but at this stage even a challenge, of the

For example, the San Diego Zoo between 2008 and 2009 profited 3.5 mil. $, money
which will be spent to pay the the skilled personnel, to feed animals and to do
maintenance of animal s shelter. So, zoos are even creating many jobs possibilities in
the city where is built.
However, these sctructures have always been criticated for many reasons by the
animalist; first of all, if we take again into consideration the economical aspect, it is
a big disadvantage, as it is extremely expensive to take care of an animal, esapecially
mammals, in all theirt needs; for example, the IDA (In defense of animals) stated that
it is at least 50 times more expensive to maintain elephants in zoos than to protect
equivalent numbers of elephants in the wild.
Moreover, humans, as living beings, don t have the right to capture and confine other
animals, their similars, even in they are endangered, because the individuals that will
remain in nature will be less genetically diverse and will have more difficulties to
breed.
Although there are regulations to prevent the maltreatment of animals in zoos, there
are still many animals, especially in the LEDC, which become extremely stressed by
the conditions which are subject to and therefore are thought to be aggressive; so,
some zoos actually give anti depressants or
Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder Essay
Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), is the most common psychiatric
disorder among children today. It s symptoms are not necessarily obvious and start at
various times. Some children give indication of having the disorder before they are
born, others are not diagnosed with having it until their preteen years. ADHD
overlaps with several other conditions, further confusing physicians and mental health
professionals who attempt to provide a diagnosis.

Surveys employing teacher s and parent s ratings generally find a 10 to 30% number
of ADD children (with or without hyperactivity) in school age populations.
Many characteristics of ADHD children are socially appropriate and desirable. Their
zest, tirelessness, enthusiasm, intensity, curiosity, and life of the party energy have
their useful moments and serve as social catalysts. Researches believe there is a link
between ADHD and giftedness. ADHD children have rich imaginations and can
quickly generate new and different ideas. They also seem to be aware of sensations
that others miss. They can combine unrelated ideas in ways so their art productions
and written compositions show a special measure of creativity. When ADHD children
are treated biochemically, these personal expressions display even greater variety,
depth, and attention to detail. Some of the most creative people in history, including
Thomas Edison, had this disorder.
ADHD is difficult to diagnose because, like all behavior disorders, it tends to appear
gradually. Neurological and physiological studies indicate that ADHD sufferers have
a wide range of biochemical imbalance and uniqueness. Symptoms phase in and out in
various settings and change somewhat from moment to moment. The child often
seems mentally alert, smiling, energetic, and

was strolling his way home from the movies, and the Socs follow him and beat
him. From that moment, problems for the Greasers and Socs start escalating. While
some believe S.E. Hinton s coming of age story theme is brotherhood, I argue that
the central theme is about social division. This is supported by S.E. Hinton s use of
dialogue, repetition, and figurative language. From the beginning of The Outsiders,
social division have been shown through dialogue. For instance, ...but I am a
Greaser, (Hinton 3.) Ponyboy is aware that he is part of a different social class, he
even classifies himself as a Greaser. The whole gang of Greasers gets discriminated.
Another example is, Hinton s use of dialogue to stow social division is when Pony
says his goodbyes to Cherry, I mean...if I see you at school or someplace and don t

MГјller-Lyer Illusion Lab Report
This study examines if an increase in fin angle reduces the magnitude of the MГјller
Lyer Illusion. 50 Undergraduate students from Penn State University, including 26
females and 24 males between the age of 19 and 26 volunteered for this study. The
experiment is conducted through Online Psychology Laboratory, where participants
use computer mouses to match the adjustable lines to the lines with fins across 11
different fin angles. The results of the experiment confirm there is a negative linear
relationship between fin angle and the average adjustment error indicating a decrease
in the magnitude of the MГјller Lyer Illusion.
Illusions are important psychological phenomenon which demonstrates how
sensation does not always equate perception as other factors complicate our
interpretations of sensory information. There are many types of illusion including
optical, aural and auditory. The MГјller Lyer illusion is a classic example of optical
illusion introduced by psychologist Franz Carl MГјller Lyer. (Kazdin, 2000). It
involves lines with fins attached at the ends pointing in different directions. The

The independent variable here is fin angle which varies from 15 degrees to 165
degrees in 15 degree intervals. On the other hand, the dependent variable in this
experiment is the adjustment error which is computed by subtracting the length of
the adjustable line from the length of the line with fins. A positive difference implies
an underestimation of the length of lines with fins while the reverse is also true.
Therefore, the hypothesis of this study is that as fin angles increase, average
adjustment errors decreases in a linear manner, demonstrating an overall negative

John Lennon Essay
A Hero of Social Justice
Isaac
Abstract In our world today, and throughout the times before us, there have been
people who have chosen to step forward and defend the rights of others. These
people are heroes of Social Justice. Men like John Lennon, conspire to change our
world and the lives of those who live in it by spreading a message of peace and
fighting for our rights. As a young boy Lennon was fascinated with music and had
little interest in school or being the perfect child. He quickly discovered his artistic
talents and by the age of 16, had made his own band. From there, his musical talent
expanded and the band The Beatles erupted as a popular rock band. Lennon used his

The song is incredibly powerful and focuses on Power to the people, as states the title,

endorses John Lennon s views and his hopes of a greater day is Imagine . Rusban
describes, In the first verse of Imagine he endorses the communist view that
religion is the opiate of the masses and presumably endorses the view that it should
be forcibly eradicated (Rusban, 1998). This song was the opening track on his
album Imagine, released in 1971, and was ranked the 3rd greatest song of all time
by Rolling Stone. Imagine conveyed Lennon s wish for world peace and harmony
in simple terms, both musically and lyrically. In September of 1969 John made the
decision to leave the Beatles and pursue a solo career with his wife new wife Yoko

fans and promoters; he always insisted that he had no regrets about the breakup of
the band and no desire to look back, and he believed that his solo work was as good

Plagerism Means More than Copying the Written Word
Essay
Plagiarism, what is it? Webster s defines plagiarism as wrongful appropriation,
purloining and publication of another author s language, thoughts, ideas, or
expressions, and the representation of them as one s own original work .
Now some would argue that in order to truly plagiarize someone else s work they
have to be a copy written author. This how ever is not true from an academic point
of view. Plagiarism covers so much more, i.e.; using unauthorized notes during a test,
copying answers from another student during a test, downloading information such as
text, computer code, artwork, or graphics from the internet and presenting it as you re
work without acknowledgment, copying from others during a work group and even ...

First thing a student can do is manager their time, by organizing their time and
sticking to the schedule they create and in itself be the most powerful tool in
avoiding plagiarism. Other things you should do are make sure you understand
exactly what plagiarism is, make sure they know what their college or university
deems plagiarism, for some might be more broad scoped than others. Also if they
don t understand how or what to cite while writing they should get help in any form
they can, most institutions have writing centers online and tutors available to assist,
all one has to do is ask.
My key take away from module 5 is that in today s technologically advance world
there are more ways than ever for a student to slip into the plagiarism trap and
honestly not know it. Reading a few other articles on plagiarism such as The
Plague of Plagiarism: Academic Plagiarism Defined by Irving Hexham,
Department of Religious Studies, University of Calgary, I actually see where a
student could still be confused as to what to cite or not to cite as there are some
scholars who believe that if you can find the same information used in more than
three places then you don t have to cite, and yet there are others who say if more
than five places you don t have to cite. Bottom line here is if a student reads and
understands their institutions guidelines on plagiarism and manages their time well,
there should never be a reason any student should fall into the plagiarism trap.
How Burnout Affects Members Of The Human Service
Profession
Burnout affects people both personally and professionally regardless of occupation.
In recent years the conception of burnout has been modified, and above all it has
begun to be treated as a phenomenon which affects members of many professions not
only those of the human service professions, due to burnoutis described as a crisis in
one s relationship with work in general (Chirkowska Smolak Kleka, 2011).
Academicians routinely spend many tiring hours reading, writing, lecturing, and
solving countless problems that are sustained by their students and institutions. This
level of involvement can be emotionally draining and coupled with working
environments that are often highly stressful has the potential to lead to burnout
(Maslach et. al, 2001). This emotional involvement is the primary reason of the
increasing rate of burnout among academic staff in an educational institution
depending on the country s working conditions (Akgemci et al., 2013). Feelings of
emotional exhaustion are a key aspect of the burnout syndrome.... Show more content

They soon realize they can no longer give of themselves as they were able to earlier
in their careers. The second aspect of the burnout syndrome is depersonalization.
Here the academicians may develop negative cynical attitudes toward students. They
can convey such attitudes in many ways, including the use of derogatory labels. A
third aspect of burnout is the loss of feeling of accomplishment from the job. This is
extremely important in education, since academics enter the profession not for
financial reward, but because they feel they can help students. When they perceive
themselves as no longer making a meaningful contribution through their work, they
evaluate themselves negatively (Schwab,
How Do Chameleons Change Its Appearance
Chameleons can quickly change their appearance in response to temperature,
environment, and mood. Scientists recently identified a key factor in their ability to
do this: The lizards can tune the distances between nanoscale crystals in their skin
that reflect light, creating a spectrum of colors. The cells that form its skin play a
significant roll in the colorchanges. This zoom represents 150 microns of a chameleon
skin, about twice the diameter of a human hair. When the light hits its skin, the cells
act depending on the mood of the chameleon. Crystals would be close together in a
neutral state and spread out when the chameleon gets excited. This crystals would
reflect out to the epidermis the warm light, changing the chameleons color

Aspiration Pneumonia Essay
Introduction
Background and Significance Dysphagia is a swallowing disorder that is
described as an abnormality in transferring a solid or liquid bolus from the oral
cavity to the stomach (Bernard, Loeslie, Rabatin, 2015). With a diagnosis of
dysphagia, a patient will likely aspirate foods and/or liquids of different
consistencies. Aspiration is the entry of food or liquid into the airway below the true
vocal folds (Logemann, 1998, p. 5). Specifically, thin liquid dysphagia occurs when a
patient aspirates while consuming any liquids that are not thickened, such as water.
Patients with thin liquid dysphagia are often prescribed a modified thickened liquid
only diet, meaning they consume liquids that are thickened to a greater consistency
of nectar, honey, or pudding (Carlaw et al., 2007). An increased viscosity reduces
the flow rate of a bolus, makes it more cohesive, and is easier for many people to
control intraorally, thus preventing spillage into the airway (Murray, Miller,
Doeltgen, Scholten, 2013). Dysphagia can also contribute to the occurrence of
aspiration pneumonia. Aspiration pneumonia occurs when organisms infiltrate the
lower respiratory tract during an episode of aspiration and the ... Show more content

the FWP was to increase compliance of patients on modified diets; however, more

spatial temporal correlations between grid components. False data injection attacks
have recently been introduced as an important class of cyber attacks against smart

Disney Stock Has Outperformed The S P 500
Disney s stock has outperformed the S P 500 since 2009 and in 2013 they
generated revenues of 45 billion dollars. The company has continues to grow and
over the last 5 10 years have aggressively been pursuing a diversification strategy.
Disney has acquired the rights to Marvel, Pixar, and Playdom, which they believe
will help their brand grow. However, while focusing on developing other aspects of
their company I believe that they have lost track of what made Disney so successful
to begin with animated movies. My recommendation for Disney is put out more then
two animated movies per year, because if these movies are successful it will over
them more opportunities to diversify then any other acquisition.

To understand how we can apply these calculations to our results, we formed a null

statistically significant difference between the observed results from our F2 cross

no statistical significance, we fail to reject the null hypothesisand tentatively accept
our previous hypothesisthat the autosomal vestigial wing trait will be inherited in a

In order to test the null hypothesis, we must calculate the chi square (П‡ВІ) values

rare gene in organisms. It is typically inherited via autosomal recessive inheritance,
meaning the two parents of this specific albino fly must have also been
heterozygous for the albinism trait (SOURCE F). Of course, this is assuming that
the colorless fly is a direct result of inheriting two albino alleles from the parents. We
also can consider DNA errors, environmental factors, or errors in the initial F1 cross
that could have led to this completely white

Essay about American Global Disinterest
In an increasingly interconnected world, America remains alarmingly isolated due
to cultural rigidity. Though often dubbed a melting pot of people and ideas (Wolff,
2), this is quite the misnomer. Most Americans have no experience with anything
outside of the country. In fact, almost 64 percent have never travelled outside their
own familiar borders (Fischl, 1) and less than 25 percent can speak a foreign
language conversationally (Wolff, 2). This lack of global literacy comes at a high
price. In order to thrive internationally in areas such as economics and politics, the
United Statesneeds people proficient in the global culture (Altshuler and Skorton, 1).
Fortunately, through the cultivation of foreign language, integration of foreign... Show

As America is one of the world s largest and most powerful countries, a crucially
important reason to bolster language education is in regards to international relations.
Nelson Mandela, the former President of South Africa, once said, If you talk to a
man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his
language, that goes to his heart. (Okpomo, 1). America needs politicians,
ambassadors, and diplomats who can connect to leaders of other nations on that level;
business leaders to promote American interests abroad; and soldiers who can relate to
the common people that they are fighting to protect. All of these endeavors require
multilingualism. A second example of insufficient imported ideology is the lack of
translated literature in the country. In a given year, only a meager 3 percent of the
almost three hundred thousand books published in the United States are translated
works (Nardone, 1). This number pales in comparison to the 15 percent in France
or 12 percent in Germany. The ability of Americans to pick up a copy of the latest
work of a Swiss novelist, Chinese philosopher, or Argentine poet is nearly
nonexistent. American students analyze and regurgitate the same materials written
by American authors, such as John Steinbeck, year after year. Foreign literature not
only provides a change of pace, but a change of perspective. Americans are not
lacking in literary curiosity, as evidenced by the countless displays in bookstore

Floating Charge Essay
An issue of distinguishing a fixed and a floating charge has considerable
significance particularly for the parties involved in commercial relationships. It
follows from the fact that under English law a fixed charge has a priority over a
floating charge that means the former will prevail over the latter even though the
company has granted a floating charge to the creditorprior to the creation of a fixed
security. Another reason is that under the provisions of Insolvency Act 1986
holders of a floating charge are placed in a less favourable position than the holders
of a fixed charge particularly due to sec. 176 of the Act which prevents the
distribution of a certain portion of the company s net property to the holder of a

Lord Scott in Re Spectrum went further by saying that the first two criteria are not
often material for every floating charge.
When providing the distinction between the above charges the two stage process
of legal characterization developed in Agnew must be applied by the English
courts. The object of the first stage of the process is to ascertain the nature of the
rights and obligations which the parties intended to grant each other in respect of
the charged assets. Once these have been ascertained, the Court can then embark
on the second stage of the process, which is one of categorization and designed to
attribute the correct legal label to the package of rights and obligations. Lord Millett
s reasoning has been approved by the House of Lords in Re Spectrum in which
emphasis was given to the freedom of the company to deal with the assets in the
ordinary course of business rather than the two first criteria focusing on the nature of
the secured assets.
The breakthrough decision on the distinction of charges over book debts became the
Siebe Gorman case where Slade J held that the restrictions placed on the company s
power to deal with the proceeds of the debts gave the bank a degree of control
which was inconsistent with a floating charge and therefore the debenture given to
Barclays was a fixed charge. The case caused a significant effect to commercial
practice as it
The Intertidal Zone And The Air Land Ocean Interface

Abstract
The intertidal zone is characterized as the limited segment of domain which is found
at the air land ocean interface and lies between the tidemarks on all shorelines. From
the about dry high tide line down to the quite often wet low tide line, the intertidal
zone exists on rough shores, sandy shorelines, and mud pads. The Intertidal Zone
is a harsh environment. The class sample the intertidal zone by placing quadrats in
a standardized form and recorded all species who were in the quadrat. The Shannon
Index and Evenness were calculated in 4 transects in the mid zone. The Simpson s
Index and Richness were calculated in all three sections separately and all values
were compare to understand the dynamic of this community. Two species were
compare from the sample population to understand the relation of the zones and
niches. The sample was too small and many error were made for the sample to have
a relevant result.
Introduction
The intertidal zone is a severe environment that has various stressors and forces which
act on organisms that are not found in strictly marine or terrestrial environments. This
environment is unique due to the constant fluctuating water levels which exposes
organisms to air and the forces of crashing surf that only animals and plants with
special adaptations are able to withstand. Despite all of these environmental
conditions, these species are able to survive and reproduce within extreme
environments.

teacher. A positive relationship between the studentand the teacher is difficult to
establish, but can be found for both individuals. The qualities for a positive

Those teachers, who demonstrate respect towards their students, automatically win
favor by having active learners in their classroom. The arrogant or offensive teacher
will lack these positive qualities due to his or her lack of control over the children.
Teachers should assert that they should also be treated with respect .Teachers can
blend their warmth and firmness towards the students in their classroom, but with
realistic limits.
Teachers who are in a classroom might have experienced one time or other students
who are disruptive or find learning boring. Teachers understand that if this behavior
continues in the classroom and if they do nothing to prevent this from happening,
the outcome proves to be disastrous for both types of participants. The student will
conclude that his or her behavior is permissible, and will draw away from learning;
therefore it is essentially important for the teacher to explain to the child the
importance to learn. Though we understand that learning cannot be forced, learning
becomes a process for an individual where he or she feels comfortable with learning
whether it s in a classroom or at clinics.
Children in first year feel the urge to talk about their problems, fears, or even show
their knowledge, but at the same time they want to be listened too. The student will
feel valued and respected. Students feel happy when the teacher eventually gives

This film was made in 2011 starring James Franco as the main character, Dr. Will

Will named the baby ape Caesar, and right away he noticed how intelligent baby
Caesar was. The first day that he brought Caesar home, Caesar already knew the
correct way to hold a bottle and feed himself. By the age of three, Caesar was doing
tasks that normal eight year old children would do. Impressed with the results Will
was finding from Caesar, Will takes a chance and steals some of the ALZ 112 from
the lab to bring home to Charles. After giving the shot to his father, his father
quickly recovered and no longer had any symptoms relating to Alzheimer s disease.
Unfortunately the medicine did not permanently cure Charles, years later he
returned back to his old ways. When Caesar looks outside his window, he sees
Charles getting yelled at by neighbor. Protective over Charles, Caesar runs outside
and attacks the man, which resulted in Caesar being taken away from his family and
imprisoned in an ape sanctuary.
While begin in the sanctuary, Caesar along with the other apes are not treated very
well. From the mistreatment, Caesar starts to make plans about how to escape. He
would draw on the walls of his cage, and think of a route to break free. When the
owners son takes his friends into the sanctuary, one boy went over to see Caesar, this
gave the intelligent ape to steal the pocket knife that the boy had without him
knowing. Caesar makes a tool that helps him to unlock his cage and free himself and
the other apes. Caesar leads the

The European Union (EU) vs the North American Free Trade Agreement
Introduction
The European Union (EU) is the organization which integrates the countries listed
below, both politically and economically. It is a customs union, which is an
agreement amongst a group of countries to eliminate trade barriers between them on
the movement of goods, services, labor and capital, and also to establish a common
external tariff on goods and services coming into the union. The EU evolved from the
European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), which was formed in 1951 as a
response to the First and Second World Wars to try to ensure future peace in Europe.
This became the European Economic Community (EEC) in 1965, which in turn
became the European ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Indeed, the ideological foundations that gave birth to the EU were based on ensuring
development and maintaining international stability, i.e., the containment of
communist expansion in post World War II Europe (Hunt 1989). The Maastricht
Treaty which gave birth to the EU in 1992 included considerations for joint policies
in regard to military defense and citizenship.
Trading blocs could strongly affect a company s investment decision. This particular
trading bloc development prompted Ford to realise it could consider Europe to be
one common market rather than a collection of individual markets. In 1967, Ford
changed its management structure to include its European operations under one
umbrella organisation known as Ford Europe Incorporated. Its two large U.K. and
German manufacturing centres remained an important dimension of the new
strategy, but they were no longer considered separate, independently operating
companies. Despite nationalistic tendencies on the part of the host country
management, Ford decided that, from the companies perspective, it was best to
eliminate national boundaries, and a German director said, The pooling of the two
companies cut the engineering bill in half for each company, provided economies of
scale, with double the volume in
Changing Adolescent Attitudes Towards Stuttering...
The article Changing adolescent attitudes toward stuttering from the Journal of
Fluency Disorders analyzes the attitudes that high schoolers have towards stuttering
and stutterers. The purpose of this study was to stop the manifestation of the negative
stigmas/stereotypes that are usually associated with stutteringwhile also determining
whether or not these feelings could be improved among adolescents. A public
opinion survey was first distributed to two health classes at a local high school. They
were then given a live oral presentation done by someone who suffers from a stutter.
The same opinion poll was redistributed afterwards. In two other separate classes, the
same survey was given but instead they watched a video presentation about stuttering
which featured the same person from the presentation. After the video was displayed,
there was another short oral presentation... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Emily Blunt is just one of many famous individuals who has been publicly open
about their own personal stuttering problems; a problem that the star had struggled
with from the age of 7 to 14. When recalling this event from her childhood, the
actress remembers particularly having trouble with her vowels especially at the
beginning of words (NPR). However, she was able to solve this problem after her
elementary school teacher realized that she spoke fluently whenever she did accents
and impressions. After this discovery, Blunt started to participate in theatre and
eventually overcame her stuttering problem. She says that if it weren t for her
childhood stutter, she never would have pursued a career in acting. Since then she has
been recognized by the American Institute for Stuttering and was given their Freeing
Voices award, an award given to people who have achieved professional success in
spite of their stuttering (Stuttering
Why I Want To Stay In Wisconsin
Staying in Wisconsin has been a wonderful two years, and I benefit from the
academics here. As a computer engineer, I m encouraged to take both computer
science courses and electrical engineering courses, and the idea of being a person
excel at both software and hardware intrigues me. This semester I am taking Verilog
Design, Compilers, and Microprocessors as such, and it is such honor to take these
as early during my sophomore year. Outside of the classroom, 24/7 office hours and
lab hours and countless free drop in tutoring around the campus has not only helped
me familiarize professors and industry used software/hardware but also learn course
materials better. Educationin Wisconsin has been caring and systematic and my
studies has thrived with it.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Wisconsin, programming tasks have been made manageable and similar to make
learning easier. We hardly need to study outside of the textbook, find resources
online or prepare for background knowledge. Although such has helped make
learning simple and efficient, I would like to learn how to prepare myself for
larger challenges in the future and help form the habit of self learning, and that is
what I believe my new school will help me with. Wisconsin trains great engineers, but
I believe my new school will make myself a true life problem solver. Besides
computer science, I have also longed for a liberal arts experience during my college
life, where I learn how to engage, view in a different perspective as well as be
inspired. I hope I can move to an environment where people not only challenge each
other s perspectives, but also build upon big dreams and diverse ideas. And I know
that is where I can push myself to the limits and fully utilize my
Building A Montessori Trade School Essay
I have been super interested in Africa since I was a young child. I used to watch the
National Geographic channel and documentaries more than cartoon network or the
Disney channel starting at around the age of six years old. I believe this greatly
contributed to my fascination for the cradle of civilization and indigenous societies.
Hopefully one day I plan to build a Montessori trade school somewhere in Africa
teaching aquaponics, organic farming, coding, CAD and other specialized trades.
Therefore, I chose the ancient ruins of the Great Zimbabweto learn more about the
people and history of South Africa.
The city s name comes from the Shona term dzimbabwe which means houses of
stone. The Great Zimbabwe Ruins are made of hand hewn granite and are located
five hundred miles north of Victoria near the border of modern day Zimbabwe. The
ruins span one thousand five hundred kilometers in size which is equivalent to one
thousand eight hundred acres. It is the largest ancient structure south of the Sahara
Desert. The ruins are made up of three main structures. The Hill Complex, The
Great Enclosure and The Valley Ruins. The people of Great Zimbabwe most likely
worshipped Mwari the most powerful god in the Shona religion. The Hill Complex
is believed to have been the spiritual and religious area of the city. It is two hundred
sixty two feet above ground and extends three hundred twenty eight feet by one
hundred forty eight feet. The Great Enclosures outer wall is eight hundred

Software engineer
Software engineering is the practice of creating software.
Members of this profession are called software engineers, programmers, developers,
or practitioners.
People who write code and do not follow the doctrines of software engineering are
more accurately called programmers, developers, or software artists.
Software engineering today
Impact of software engineering
Software engineering affects economies and societies in many ways.
Economic
In the U.S., software drove about 1/4 of all increase in GDP during the 1990s
(about $90 billion per year), and 1/6 of all productivity growth (efficiency within
GDP) during the late 1990s (about $33 billion per year). Software engineering drove
$1 trillion of economic and productivity growth over the last decade.
Social
Software engineering changes world culture, wherever people use computers. Email,
the world wide web, and instant messaging enable people to interact in new ways.
Software lowers the cost and improves the quality of health care, fire departments,
and other important social services.
Successful projects where software engineering methods have been applied include
Linux, the space shuttle software, and automatic teller machines. When it is cheaper

Charlie Brown, How I hate him! (Schultz) These were the exact words that
Americans read on tВheir weekly newspaper on October 2, 1950. Since the first day,
Peanuts comic expressed this aura of satire. Panel through panel, cartoonist and
creator, Charles Schulz continued to use this same satire to captivate the hearts of
many and establish one of the most well known comics in the United States. Peanuts
itself gave us insight into the life of creator Charles Schulz through the personality
differences between Snoopyand Charlie, as well as other characters, their
representation of Schulz s own feelings, their adventures in the comics, and the subtle

Michaels, during Schulz s childhood, his mother was not a very social individual.
She did not like to interact with neighbors, strangers or even her son s friends.
Many people described Schulz s mom as distant. Schulz s father was also very
distant towards him, but in a different way. Regardless of Schultz and his father
having a good relationship, his father would often work long hours in his barber
shop and would rarely be home. (Michaels 32 33) Moreover, in the comic strips,
adults are rarely, if ever, seen. They are always out of the comic panels with only a
text bubble coming from the side. In the cartoon and movies, there is a similar
revolving pattern. Adults will speak but are rarely in the scene, or they make a wah
wah wah sound imitating their voice. The relationship between the characters and the
adults is a direct representation of Charles Schulz s relationship with his own parents
and their lack of
Ellen Degeneres Research Paper
Ellen DeGeneres was born on the 26th of January, 1958. She was born in Metairie,
Louisiana. Before becoming a comedian, Ellan wanted to be a veterinarian, but
then she gave up on the idea later on. Ellen worked many different jobs before she
was a comedian. She first received her offers to do stand up comedy when she was
being humorous during a public speaking event when she was intimidated by the
crowd. She then began to perform in 1981 with support from her mother, financially
and morally. Ellen didn t have her big debut until 1986. The TOnight Show starring
Johnny Carson brought Ellen on the show. At that time, she was the only female to

She encouraged people to be on her side, to march for equality, and to believe in
fairness and love. She asked people to join her and to give her the fair, same rights
that everybody else has, so it can be a wonderful world. After being targeted by a
conservative Christian pastor, Ellen spoke out on her show. In April, 2016, Ellen
spoke against the new Mississippi law regarding homosexual rights. The people
who wanted the law to be passed said it was to protect religious freedoms while the
opposite side said it allowed discrimination against people based on sexual
orientation. Ellen brought attention to this issue when she talked about it on her
talk show. She included many witty jokes such as, I m disappointed for several
reasons. First of all, Mississippi is the only state I know how to spell. Now in
current time, Ellen continue to inspire the young LBGTQ community. She uses her
publicity to fight for LGBTQ rights. Since Ellen is very popular, she used her
popularity to influence those watching the show to support LGBTQ. She did more
than influencing America s views on gay rights. She inspired people. She s an
important public figure to the LGBTQ community, who s role was important in

J. Bruce Ismay Is Responsible For The Sinking Of The
Titanic
The Titanic was the biggest ship built in the 1900s. The Titanic is very important
to us because it helps us remember the people who went down with their ship.
Back then the Titanic was just not a ship that people went on it was a Royal Mail
Ship. The Titanic is very important because people are still arguing about who is
responsible for the sinking of the Titanic. I believe J. Bruce Ismay is responsible
for the sinking of the Titanic because he was more powerful than Captain Smith.
Although some people think Captain Smith is responsible for the sinking of the
Titanic. However, I think that it is J. Bruce Ismay because he told Captain Smith
to accelerate the speed of the ship after they received 7 ice warnings. They say that
Captain Smith didn t put as many people on the lifeboats as he could and that s
true, but Ismay didn t have enough lifeboats for everyone on the ship. When Ismay
saw the iceberg, it was too close so he took a 90% angle and got a hole on... Show

Bruce Ismay because he put pressure on Captain Smith. Like he told him to stay
the same pace as they were going when they received the ice warning. A few more
examples are that he ignored all dispatch calls and didn t tell Captain Smith, and
didn t have enough lifeboats for everyone on the ship. There are still a lot more
reasons why I think Ismay is responsible for the sinking of the Titanic. There are
many little things J. Bruce Ismay did that, it makes me think that he is responsible
for the sinking of the Titanic. Like he did not take time to test the ship and take
precautions and that is the important thing you need to do before you get the ship
on the water. One more thing I am pinning J. Bruce Ismay on is that he skipped
over a good crew and did not have a good person for every single job on the Titanic.
One last major thing that he did was that he took a lifeboat for himself and the crew
was not supposed to take a lifeboat they were supposed to go down with the
Portfolio Management Concepts Essay
Portfolio Management Concepts The concept of portfolio management is a
lucrative sword as not only it offers not only returns but the investor also have to
face risk associated with it. If the Investor is willing to earn higher return he has to
associate higher return with higher risk. For an investor to diversify away the risk
he can follow diversification rule. Under diversification, investor can include the
assets which are not correlated to each other and thus by including these asset
classes he can diversify away the risk. However, in terms of the risk there are two
kinds of risk i.e Unsystematic Risk and Systematic Risk and an investor can diversify
only unsystematic risk by following diversification rule including the asset classes...

However, in comparison to benchmark return, we can conluded that portfolio has still
not achieved maximum diversification and it need to follow portfolios on efficient
frontier that offers him maximum return with benchmark standard deviation of

Finance which is a branch of investment world that explain the stock prices anomalies
because of psycholigical behavior of investors. In other words, behavior analysis
reveals the pattern of how the market outcomes and an investors investment decisions
are influenced by the prevailing market information structure and characteristc of
market participants. It considers the psychological bases for percieved investor
behavior that creates some degree of systematic mispricing of securities and may
explain anomalies that tend to refute the efficient market hypothesis. Following are
some bias related to behavior finance: Overconfidence Bias: With respect to growing
companies, researchers have presented evidence that KMK Investments
overconfidence in their earnings forecasts and their high estimated growth rate of
earnings lead them to overemphasize the impact of good news and to underestimate
the negative value implications of bad news. This may be the reason that the portfolio

Kant Rationalism
Immanuel Kant was a German philosopher during the enlightenment era of the late
18th century known for his best work produced critique of pure reason. Kant was
born on April 22nd 1724 in the city of Konigsberg back then known as Prussia now
a part of Russia called Kaliningrad, he unfortunately passed away on February 12th
1804. Kant was brought up in a very modest lifestyle throughout his entire
childhood and teenage life, his father was a saddle maker and he grew up with an
extremely religious family although he himself did not have faith in any religion he
did realize just how much religion had benefitted and contributed to his parents
abilities to cope with all of the hardships occurring throughout their lives.

and the philosophical study of moral actions he believed that all morality was

Pathos in MLK Jr. s Letter from Birmingham Jail
Pathos in MLK, Jr. s Letter from Birmingham Jail In his Letter, Martin Luther King
Jr. s ability to effectively use pathos, or to appeal to the emotions of his audiences,
is evident in a variety of places. More particularly in paragraph fourteen, King
demonstrates his ability to inspire his fellow civil rights activists, invoke empathy in
the hearts of white moderates, and create compassion in the minds of the eight
clergyman to which the Letter is directed. In response to the clergyman s claim that
his use of direct action was untimely, King states, We have waited for more than 340
years for our constitutional and God given rights. As you can see, this statement is in

Why are we still moving so slowly toward independence? King is pushing the
people of the black community to act, to be involved in what will be their history
with his words of inspiration and at the same time making it clear to them that the
time to act is now. Like instruments in an orchestra being brought in one by one to a
melody that fills the ears of its listeners and drives out any other thoughts, King
then targets the white moderate population, the white voters. He tries to place this
audience into the shoes of the black people by giving vivid descriptions of the
trials they have been going through and invoke empathy in their hearts. He says:
When you have seen vicious mobs lynch your mothers and fathers at will and
drown your brothers and sisters at whim . . . This statement brings up an issue
every culture has had to deal with, death. Death in the American culture is one that
is associated with loss and grief. King deftly imposes this loss on the shoulders of
his white audience making it clear to them the pain the black people have been dealt.
King then sums up this passage by turning his voice back to the clergymen he s
addressing and says, Then you will understand why we find it difficult to

my dad was such a heavy sleeper. So I did not want to be rude or anything like that.
After my realization I took responsibility of not waking up my dad by playing

Overwatch. But before it even started I heard footsteps storming towards the living
room. I kept thinking that I was in trouble because I immediately recognized that it

my desire to learn biking . Then after what I said he realized that he is not giving

Discursive Essays.pdf

  • 1. Discursive Essays Crafting a discursive essay can be a challenging task that demands a combination of analytical thinking, research skills, and effective communication. Unlike other forms of essays, a discursive essay requires the writer to explore and present multiple perspectives on a given topic. This complexity adds a layer of difficulty as it necessitates a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter, as well as the ability to critically evaluate various arguments. One of the primary challenges lies in maintaining a balanced approach. A discursive essay often involves discussing both sides of an issue, and striking the right balance between different viewpoints can be intricate. It requires finesse to present contrasting arguments without appearing biased or favoring one perspective over the other. This demands a high level of objectivity and the ability to analyze information impartially. Additionally, researching and gathering relevant data to support each viewpoint is crucial. The essay should be well-grounded in facts, statistics, and examples that bolster the arguments presented. This process can be time-consuming and requires the writer to delve deep into the subject, understanding the nuances of each perspective to provide a comprehensive overview. Structuring a discursive essay also poses a challenge. Arranging the content in a logical and coherent manner is essential to guide the reader through the different arguments. Creating a clear introduction that introduces the topic and previews the key arguments, followed by well- organized body paragraphs that delve into each perspective, and concluding with a succinct summary, demands careful planning and execution. Furthermore, maintaining clarity and coherence in language is paramount. Expressing complex ideas in a clear and concise manner is an art in itself. Writers must be adept at articulating their thoughts, using language effectively to convey meaning and foster understanding among readers. In conclusion, writing a discursive essay is a formidable task that requires a combination of research, critical thinking, and effective communication skills. Successfully navigating the challenges of presenting multiple perspectives, conducting thorough research, structuring the essay, and maintaining clarity in language is no small feat. • 2. The Components Of A Mature Understanding Of Death Midterm 1.Discuss the components of a mature understanding of death, and what factors may lead to, contribute to, or affect its development. Death is made up by multiple concepts, which include, universality, irreversibility, nonfunctionality, causality, and personal mortality. Universality refers to the fact that all living things must eventually die since death is inevitable. Irreversibility remarks that death is irrevocable and final. Therefore, no organism that experiences death can come back to life. Nonfunctionality emphasizes the fact that death implies the cessation of physiological functions. Once a person dies, all the capabilities and functions the body has come to an ending. Causality highlights that there are biological reasons for death that can be internal and external. Internal causes of heath include diseases and external reasons can often be associated with physical trauma. Personal mortality is the last component and it is closely related to universality. It addresses the understanding that one must die as all living things eventually do. According to The Last Dance, a child gains all components of a mature concept of death between the ages of seven and ten. However, it is later noted that it is more reliable to take developmental sequence into consideration instead of age due to the fact that children develop at different rates. In order for a child to have a mature understanding of death, it is important for him or her to have experiences regarding
  • 3. Roy, S Reactions To Conflict In Bernard Malamud s The Natural Although Roy is the main character Bernard Malamud s The Natural, we are not directly told of his past. It is up to the reader to piece together the puzzle and interpret why Roy acts and responds in the way he does. Roy s mysterious past makes his responses to conflict the most interesting aspect of this book. There is a presence of conflict throughout the entire text: adversity with The Whammer , Bump, Gus, Memo, the Judge, and his own mental state. Although Roy reacts to conflict in a variety of ways, the reactions themselves are fueled by one motive. Roy s overall responses to conflict originate from his devastating past and family life, in addition to his need to prove to himself that he has purpose. Although we are not specifically told of Roy s past, Malamud gives away small hints and details towards what has occurred. It is revealed that Roy was not fond of his mother, and that she had a bad influence on him. Roy describes his mother as a whore that spoiled [his] old man s life (Malamud 179). He goes on by saying that she did not love anybody, including himself. Roy only lived with his mother for the first seven years of his life, followed by him moving in with his grandmother. After his grandmother passed away, he was forced to live in an orphanage. One of the first characters that is presented as someone Roy looks up to is Sam, and shortly after he is brought into the picture, Roy witnesses him perish. All of Roy s father figures, his biological father, his
  • 4. The Terminator By James Cameron The Terminator was written by James Cameron and came out in 1984.1 It tells of a post apocalyptic world dominated by a war between humans and artificially intelligent robots, called terminators. The movie was produced at the beginning of the Digital Age, and computer development and use was beginning to increase. Computercompanies like Apple and Microsoft had recently been founded and some of the first personal computers were being created. Many wondered if society was becoming too dependent of technology . In addition to computers, all forms of technology were rapidly improving during this time period. The Terminatorpredicts that the relationship between man and computer turns bad when the computer is given too much power. Ultimately, mankind creates its own downfall. Furthermore, the terminator is seen as superior to the human characters in the movie. The Terminator has no feelings of pain, anger, remorse, or any other kind of emotions. It seems to be a flawless killer, unmatched by its weak creators. The Terminator embodies people s fears of the advancement of technology and its impact on society. The Terminator takes place over the course of a week in the 1980s in an unknown town. The movie is about a robot (a terminator ) that goes back in time to kill a woman named Sarah Connor and a man named Kyle Reese who tries to save her. • 5. Gender Roles And Stereotypes Have On Women This paper focuses on gender roles in advertisements and further analyzes the affect these advertisements have on women. Gender roles refer to the ways in which individuals are expected to act based on their gender. These roles are very prevalent in society, and because of this, are also depicted heavily in advertisements. Although men do receive negative messages from advertisements, this paper focuses more on women because of the amount of violence and stereotypes that are depicted towards them in these ads. What is the history of this topic? Gender roles and stereotypes are forced upon individuals the moment they are brought into the world. If an individual is born with female genitalia, they are automatically labeled as girl and if they have male ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They are then told how to act and look based on these labels, and it is very hard to escape these expectations. Girls are expected to become mothers and housewives and be confident but also submissive. Boys are expected to pursue high paying careers and marry a beautiful woman and be tough. This has been the case since the beginning of time, with gender roles changing throughout time and throughout cultures. The primary agents of socialization are parents, peers, social institutions, and the media (Kimmel 2017). Media is a very important agent to study because everyone is exposed to some form of media each day, and media is an easy and accessible way for people to learn things about the world. It has been said that the advertisement industry has been incorporating gender roles into their campaigns for approximately 40 years (Browall Nd). Past research has found that in advertisements, women are given the following attributes: passivity, lack of intelligence and credibility, deference, shyness and helplessness (Browne 1998). This research has also found that in advertisements, men appear to be constructive, powerful, controlling, achieving and autonomous (Browne 1998).
  • 6. Government Differences In The Government Of Rome And Rome Rome had a government that was often in flux, as different challenges were faced throughout the reign of their empire. Carthage too had many ways that the government was organized and built upon. Rome and Carthage, however, had vast differences in their style of governance as well. In the following short paragraphs, Rome and Carthage s governmentdifferences will be discussed. First, the Roman government shared some similarities to the Carthaginian government, however, there were also many differences. The Roman government, on a very basic level was different then the Carthaginian government. The Romans had a temporary dictator that could be called on if needed when there was a crisis in terms of warfare. This dictator could only be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The voting system was along tribal lines. There were also tribal assemblies that decided on localized matters within the tribe. These had both rich and poor in them. In this way, although not quite a democracy, more citizens were being heard than in other countries or cities (Wasson 2017, Para. 10 12). This was how the Roman government was set up. Second, the Carthaginian government had some different practices from the Roman government. One of these practices was that they did not have a temporary dictator like Rome had. Also, the Senate in Carthage does seem to have had legislative power. They also had to agree with their two magistrates running the country about a certain decision or they had to pass the vote on to the popular assembly. Many of the responsibilities of the Senate also focused heavily on war (Cartwright, 2016, Para. 2 4). There were also special Senate members who were the magistrates or the ones making and analyzing the laws. Almost all positions were only available in terms of ruling for a short time. This was an attempt to curb corruption, although, it did not help as much as had been hoped (Cartwright, 2016, Para. 5 7). In terms of the Assembly, all that is known about it is that people had to be citizens and male to join, and their main responsibilities were to vote on laws among other items that were passed down to them from the senate and the magistrates. They also helped elect some of the positions in the government. Carthage
  • 7. In America, There Is A Huge Educational Gap Between... In America, there is a huge educational gap between actualizers and strugglers. While the mass population is told that America is free, strugglers feel the thorns of the lash of bondage through education. In most schools in America, the foundation for the type of education entrenched in students is based on two things: socioeconomic status and geographical location. Consequently, strugglers are forced into a system of repeated oppression merely because they do not possess the means of capital. Born into a struggler family infested with homelessness, destitution, and poverty, I chose to educate myself outside of the classroom because my school failed to provide an adequate education to be successful in today s world. I chose to study abroad in France, which was a complete learning experience in itself. Despite being in a struggler school, an exchange student foundation, American Field Service (AFS), presented the idea of studying abroad. They offered anyone who wanted to embark on this once in a lifetime journey a full scholarship of $15,000. Initially, I thought that it was too good to be true, but I ended up being the only student in my school that went abroad for a year. After experiencing an entirely different way of life, I recognized the historical differences of

Little information is known about the North Korean nuclear program and has been made available to foreign nations due to the secrecy and isolation of international affairs. The threat of a nuclear strike from North Korea has become an increasingly serious matter for many nations including the U.S. and its Asian allies, Japan and South Korea. Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea, granted access to multiple locations to U.S. officials for inspection of facilities in exchange for financial aid and food (Hathaway Tama 724). North Korea s negotiation for aid from the U.S. does not come as a surprise for the simple fact that citizens living under the supreme leadership of Kim Jong un live in absolute poverty. Although the state run government experiences hardship by trying to provide an adequate supply of food for citizens; the government spends a huge sum of money to maintain a large military force. North Korea was not pleased with the accusations that they were constructing underground nuclear development facilities and demanded the U.S. to compensate a large sum of financial aid to the state government for defamation. The nation demand for $300 million or other economic benefits and food aid equivalent to that amount is claimed very just, because once [North Koreans] open an object, which is very sensitive in view of their national security... they cannot use it for its original purpose (Park 538). When his grandmother found out that he has had the gun for a long time, Richard insists in keeping the gun and he commanded her not to tell his father, Meridian of the gun. However, after the interactions with Juanita and Lyle, Richard gives the gun to his father voluntarily. What causes Richard to change his mind and give the gun to his father? Given Richard s provocative behavior toward Lyle, one might suggests that Richard pass the gun to Meridian because he wants to be defenseless. He offends Lyle hoping that he will retaliates and eventually ends his life. But why would he want to die? Perhaps because he fails to pursue his dream to become a blues singer in the place where African American can succeed. In addition, his drug addiction had made his life a mess and Richard choose to be defenseless just to end the suffering of discrimination. Instead of passing the gun to people

  • 14. Functions Of A Steady State Exercise Essay Assign 3794 3.Steady state exercise is the activity where we perform while maintaining the same heart and muscle movements. Steady state exercise affects many body functions. If the steady state exercise performed for months consistently, it will increase the overall endurance of an individual. The below are the certain physiological functions affected during steady state: Cardiac output: The aerobic exercise performed at steady rate causes the body to increase the amount of blood pumped by the heart. Cardiac output is determined by stroke volume and heart rate. The Stroke volume is defined as the quantity of blood pumped at each heart beat, while the body going from rest to steady state exercise. Cardiac output increases rapidly even more gradually until it reaches a plateau. By that time we develop an increased number of capillaries, greater opening of existing capillaries, more effective blood redistribution and increased blood volume. Due to this, capillaries improve the body ability to deliver oxygen and nutrients to muscle and also to remove the waste products. Cardiac output is generally calculated by: Cardiac output = Heart rate * Stroke volume Blood pressure: The blood pressure of an individual is affected before and after reaching the steady state. .There is increase in the systolic and diastolic blood pressure during steady state. These increases in the pressure represent the pressure in arteries. This pressure is while the heart is contracting and
  • 15. Mental Health And Mental Disorders LP4 Assignment: Healthy People 2020 Shelbi Murphy National American University Mental health and mental disorders are related in that which they both deal with the mind, they either have productive or detrimental effects on the individual. Mental health is basically when an individual is performing and being productive with in society. The individual has the ability to cope with specific issues and address those issues without cause. Mental disorders are any condition that is diagnosable through the DSM 5, and causes mood and behavioral changes. Mental disorders can have long lasting effects on individuals and can contribute to many long term disabilities, behavioral issues, impulse control, irrational thought process, and ineffectively being able to be a productive part of society. Statistics on Mental Health Disorders Mental disorders are common in the United States and internationally. An estimated 22.1% of Americans ages 18 and older about 1 in 5 adults suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder in a given year. Approximately 18.8 million American adults, or about 9.5 percent of the U.S. population age 18 and older in a given year, have a depressive disorder. Nearly twice as many women (12.0 percent) as men (6.6 percent) are affected by a depressive disorder each year. These figures translate to 12.4 million women and 6.4 million men in the U.S. (Medicine Net, October 2, 2015). Mental disorders are among the most common causes of disability. The

Nowadays one of the most important issues is preservation of biodiversity. So, it must be the duty, but at this stage even a challenge, of the community and of each individual, to preserve the world s biodiversity without drastically reducing the use of resources, which humans need in order to survive. So, zoos are even creating many jobs possibilities in the city where is built. However, these sctructures have always been criticated for many reasons by the animalist; first of all, if we take again into consideration the economical aspect, it is a big disadvantage, as it is extremely expensive to take care of an animal, esapecially mammals, in all theirt needs; for example, the IDA (In defense of animals) stated that it is at least 50 times more expensive to maintain elephants in zoos than to protect equivalent numbers of elephants in the wild. Moreover, humans, as living beings, don t have the right to capture and confine other animals, their similars, even in they are endangered, because the individuals that will remain in nature will be less genetically diverse and will have more difficulties to breed. Although there are regulations to prevent the maltreatment of animals in zoos, there are still many animals, especially in the LEDC, which become extremely stressed by the conditions which are subject to and therefore are thought to be aggressive; so, some zoos actually give anti depressants or

Researches believe there is a link between ADHD and giftedness. ADHD children have rich imaginations and can quickly generate new and different ideas. Also if they don t understand how or what to cite while writing they should get help in any form they can, most institutions have writing centers online and tutors available to assist, all one has to do is ask. My key take away from module 5 is that in today s technologically advance world there are more ways than ever for a student to slip into the plagiarism trap and honestly not know it. Reading a few other articles on plagiarism such as The Plague of Plagiarism: Academic Plagiarism Defined by Irving Hexham, Department of Religious Studies, University of Calgary, I actually see where a student could still be confused as to what to cite or not to cite as there are some scholars who believe that if you can find the same information used in more than three places then you don t have to cite, and yet there are others who say if more than five places you don t have to cite. Bottom line here is if a student reads and understands their institutions guidelines on plagiarism and manages their time well, there should never be a reason any student should fall into the plagiarism trap.

  • 28. Aspiration Pneumonia Essay Introduction Background and Significance Dysphagia is a swallowing disorder that is described as an abnormality in transferring a solid or liquid bolus from the oral cavity to the stomach (Bernard, Loeslie, Rabatin, 2015). With a diagnosis of dysphagia, a patient will likely aspirate foods and/or liquids of different consistencies. Aspiration is the entry of food or liquid into the airway below the true vocal folds (Logemann, 1998, p. 5). Specifically, thin liquid dysphagia occurs when a patient aspirates while consuming any liquids that are not thickened, such as water. Patients with thin liquid dysphagia are often prescribed a modified thickened liquid only diet, meaning they consume liquids that are thickened to a greater consistency of nectar, honey, or pudding (Carlaw et al., 2007). An increased viscosity reduces the flow rate of a bolus, makes it more cohesive, and is easier for many people to control intraorally, thus preventing spillage into the airway (Murray, Miller, Doeltgen, Scholten, 2013). Dysphagia can also contribute to the occurrence of aspiration pneumonia. Aspiration pneumonia occurs when organisms infiltrate the lower respiratory tract during an episode of aspiration and the ... • 34. Essay about American Global Disinterest In an increasingly interconnected world, America remains alarmingly isolated due to cultural rigidity. Though often dubbed a melting pot of people and ideas (Wolff, 2), this is quite the misnomer. Most Americans have no experience with anything outside of the country. In fact, almost 64 percent have never travelled outside their own familiar borders (Fischl, 1) and less than 25 percent can speak a foreign language conversationally (Wolff, 2). This lack of global literacy comes at a high price. In order to thrive internationally in areas such as economics and politics, the United Statesneeds people proficient in the global culture (Altshuler and Skorton, 1). Fortunately, through the cultivation of foreign language, integration of foreign... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As America is one of the world s largest and most powerful countries, a crucially important reason to bolster language education is in regards to international relations. Nelson Mandela, the former President of South Africa, once said, If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart. (Okpomo, 1). America needs politicians, ambassadors, and diplomats who can connect to leaders of other nations on that level; business leaders to promote American interests abroad; and soldiers who can relate to the common people that they are fighting to protect. All of these endeavors require multilingualism. A second example of insufficient imported ideology is the lack of translated literature in the country. In a given year, only a meager 3 percent of the almost three hundred thousand books published in the United States are translated works (Nardone, 1). This number pales in comparison to the 15 percent in France or 12 percent in Germany. The ability of Americans to pick up a copy of the latest work of a Swiss novelist, Chinese philosopher, or Argentine poet is nearly nonexistent. American students analyze and regurgitate the same materials written by American authors, such as John Steinbeck, year after year. Foreign literature not only provides a change of pace, but a change of perspective. Americans are not lacking in literary curiosity, as evidenced by the countless displays in bookstore windows
  • 35. Floating Charge Essay An issue of distinguishing a fixed and a floating charge has considerable significance particularly for the parties involved in commercial relationships. It follows from the fact that under English law a fixed charge has a priority over a floating charge that means the former will prevail over the latter even though the company has granted a floating charge to the creditorprior to the creation of a fixed security. Another reason is that under the provisions of Insolvency Act 1986 holders of a floating charge are placed in a less favourable position than the holders of a fixed charge particularly due to sec. 176 of the Act which prevents the distribution of a certain portion of the company s net property to the holder of a floating charge... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lord Scott in Re Spectrum went further by saying that the first two criteria are not often material for every floating charge. When providing the distinction between the above charges the two stage process of legal characterization developed in Agnew must be applied by the English courts. The object of the first stage of the process is to ascertain the nature of the rights and obligations which the parties intended to grant each other in respect of the charged assets. Once these have been ascertained, the Court can then embark on the second stage of the process, which is one of categorization and designed to attribute the correct legal label to the package of rights and obligations. Lord Millett s reasoning has been approved by the House of Lords in Re Spectrum in which emphasis was given to the freedom of the company to deal with the assets in the ordinary course of business rather than the two first criteria focusing on the nature of the secured assets. The breakthrough decision on the distinction of charges over book debts became the Siebe Gorman case where Slade J held that the restrictions placed on the company s power to deal with the proceeds of the debts gave the bank a degree of control which was inconsistent with a floating charge and therefore the debenture given to Barclays was a fixed charge. The case caused a significant effect to commercial practice as it

Introduction The intertidal zone is a severe environment that has various stressors and forces which act on organisms that are not found in strictly marine or terrestrial environments. This environment is unique due to the constant fluctuating water levels which exposes organisms to air and the forces of crashing surf that only animals and plants with special adaptations are able to withstand. The arrogant or offensive teacher will lack these positive qualities due to his or her lack of control over the children. Teachers who are in a classroom might have experienced one time or other students who are disruptive or find learning boring. Teachers understand that if this behavior continues in the classroom and if they do nothing to prevent this from happening, the outcome proves to be disastrous for both types of participants. The student will conclude that his or her behavior is permissible, and will draw away from learning; therefore it is essentially important for the teacher to explain to the child the importance to learn. Though we understand that learning cannot be forced, learning becomes a process for an individual where he or she feels comfortable with learning whether it s in a classroom or at clinics. Children in first year feel the urge to talk about their problems, fears, or even show their knowledge, but at the same time they want to be listened too. The student will feel valued and respected.
