Effects Of Amendment 2 On The State Florida
Has anyone done any research on what the effects Amendment 2 would have on the state Florida?
Well the opposition clearly did not do any research and the politicians used smooth talking fallacies
to blind side the voters. It is time to see the holes in their stance on medical marijuana.
The Smokescreen as defined by the author Joe Cardona from the Miami Herald, is the lack of
liability Amendment 2 brought to the table when it hit the polls in October. His meaning behind
this is because a medical marijuana user would not be receiving a prescription from a trained
medical physician. Instead, they would be receiving a referral for a license to receive treatment
and they would have it forever. Also as part of Joe Cardona s Smokescreen theory, because the fact
that Amendment 2 is a constitutional amendment that there would have been no way to tweak or
amended it, like a legislative law would. So regulating the consumption of medical marijuana would
be impossible. (Cardona, 2014)
Unfortunately he is not the only one to interpret Amendment 2 this way. Dr. Rafael Miguel,
director of the Sarasota Memorial Institute for Advanced Medicine s Pain Medicine Program and
representatives for Drug Free America. He states that You don t get refills, you get it forever. There
s no regulation on consumption. (Gillin, 2014)
These bold statements were completely wrong and very misinforming. The referral would also
have a date attached, so a doctor would put on the referral how long the

Music Is An Identifying Characteristic Of Film And Television
Music is an identifying characteristic of film and television; everyone who has been exposed to
popular culture knows the theme for Star Wars and The Simpsons, even if they have never seen
the movie or show. Disney movies are no exception, and this is largely due to the genius creative
mind of Alan Menken. Menken is best known for composing the scores for some of the most
beloved Disney classics, including Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Hercules,
Pocahontas, and Tangled. He also made his mark composing for highly acclaimed Broadway
musicals, including Little Shop of Horrorsand Newsies, as well as the stage adaptations of some of
his Disney hits. The familiar songs composed by Menken are permanently ingrained in our minds
and are largely responsible for the success of the films and theatrical works he was associated with.
Alan Menkenwas born on July 22nd, 1949 in New York City. He grew up in New Rochelle, New
York with his sisters, Faye and Leah. Menken s family was heavily involved in the performing
arts, setting the stage for his career at a young age. His mother, Judy Menken, was an aspiring
actress and playwright; his father, Norman Menken was a dentist but played boogie woogie and
show tunes on the piano as a hobby. Alan Menken aspired to be a composer from a young age, but
the men in his family typically became dentists and he felt that he was expected to continue this
tradition. However, he did learn to play the piano, violin, and guitar as he

Power Of Love In Sonnet 55

The Immortal Power of Poetry
The Shakespearian Sonnets, written circa 1600, follow ideas and beliefs present during the
Renaissance (Mary). During this time period, god, religion, and superstition were driving forces
of everyday life. Nearly everyone in Shakespeare s audience believed in a branch of Christianity
and the effects of the faith are evident in his writings, especially Sonnet 55. Sonnet 55, sometimes
known as Not marble not the gilded monuments , emphasizes the true strength of literary works as
they stand against the test of time. The poem specifically asserts that the power of love and poetry is
stronger than the strength of death through the use of imagery and descriptive writing (Mary).
Shakespeare s famous sonnets followed the standard English sonnet pattern of 3 quatrains with a
rhyme scheme of ABAB followed by a rhyming couplet. Each quatrain in the sonnet discusses a
new idea regarding time and the relationship between death and immortality.
At the time this poem was written, time, in the eyes of the people, seemed to move toward a single
event, the last judgement (Mary). The last judgment is a belief in the Christian faith that all souls
will face a day of judgement for their sins. The first quatrain discusses the concept of time wearing
on in conjunction with the negative effects of death and decay (Mary). Although time itself cannot
be physically manipulated, there is still an ever present hope burning inside humans to control
time. Ultimately, humans long to live forever but as reality dictates, all living things must die.
Shakespeare works around this reality by channeling that hope into the immortality of literary
works specifically poetry. This message is conveyed early in the poem with the lines, Nor marble
nor the gilded monuments / Of princes shall outlive this powerful rhyme (1 2). This powerful
rhyme (2), is a reference to the poem itself and Shakespeare compares its endurance to that of
monuments and grave stones (Almedia). These lines indicate the strength in the poetry itself as
monuments and grave stones are items that are considered to exist for a time close to eternity. The
discussion of time is

The Physical Effects of Fear
Fear is an emotion that most everyone is familiar with. The psychological effects of fear are readily
apparent but many people are unaware of the physical effects. Some of these are major; others are
so minor they go unnoticed. The philosopher Jiddu Krishnamurti who lived during the 20th century
said What is needed, rather than running away or controlling or suppressing or any other resistance,
is understanding fear; that means, watch it, learn about it, come directly into contact with it. We are
to learn about fear, not how to escape from it. Understanding the physiology of fear may provide a
foundation for better coping and treatment strategies in the future.

Since anxiety is experienced commonly, it is important to be aware of the body s response. These
effects are completely normal, and act as a natural coping method of the body. The physical
response to phobias is a bit more extreme. The basic, minor effects begin with sweating,
trembling, hot flashes or chills, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, a choking sensation,
rapid heartbeat, chest pain or a feeling of tightness in the chest, and a sensation of butterflies in
the stomach. These increase to symptoms such as nausea, headaches and dizziness, feeling faint
numbness or pins and needles, dry mouth, ringing in your ears, and feeling confused or
disorientated. Paranoia is similar, but manifests itself through mainly psychological effects. Terror
differs from anxiety and phobia in that there may be lasting physical effects. The immediate
response is an adrenaline rush called the fight or flight response. When this is triggered, the
person experiencing this intense fear will either face the problem head on, or run from the cause
of the terror. The short term effects (those that last for a few days or weeks) are the body s way of
dealing with a particularly frightening trauma.
These feelings are those that each person tends to be aware of whenever a situation goes wrong in
their lives, and the feelings should seem

Gender Roles in Creation Myths from Around the World
Different cultures and societies have their story of how the world began. These stories vary in the
process, but they all share one common theme. All of the stories begin with nothing or chaos, that is
until one being creates light, time, earth and its occupants. One common thing all myths share is the
role and status of women and men. In the Greek myth women were less dominant, Hindu myth
women are not even mentioned, and in Cherokee myth women are shown to be inferior.
Greek creation myth highlights how men and women differ in their status and roles. Women were
the inferior sex when compared to men, they were seen as intellects, and child ... Show more content

Buying A Fantastic Brand Cleaner
Yahya Bello Extra Credit 2 Page 133 Econ 1020 Professor Leach 1.Consumers who buy fantastic

as bounded rationality because they tend to make their choices that serve their objectives, but
they have limited ability to acquire and process information. Consumers that buy fantastic brand
cleaner can also be considered as bounded rationality because they believe in the rule of thumbs
that says the higher the price of goods the higher quality of the goods will be. Since the price of
Fantastik brand cleaner is higher than that of Pathmark, they apply the rule of thumbs before
making a choice between the two brands. 2.Based on my own prior experience as a shopper, I
can definitely agree that the rule of thumb is rarely valid with a genuine evidence from my
personal experience as a shopper e.g. there was a time I bought a pair of jeans from one of my
favorite stores at a very low price without considering the quality of the jeans and a friend of
mine also bought the same pair of jeans from a different store at a higher price believing in the
rule of thumb( the higher the price the higher the quality of the item). Unfortunately, my friend s
pair of jeans completely fades out and the zip also worn out while mine that I got from a very low
price without applying the rule of thumbs still looks good and well kept. The situation suggests that

Comparison Of The Pillow Book And The Song Of Roland
Both The Pillow Book and The Song of Roland gives us an insight about the dominant groups
during its respective period. The Pillow Book by Sei Shonagon provides us with the picture of
aristocracy in Japan during the Heian period. Sei Shonagon served as a court lady to the empress
around the year 1000 and through her time she records her opinions and her experiences in the
court. On the other hand The Song of Roland offers us the history of battles during the reign of
Charlemagne and how his government was set up and controlled.
The Heian court controlled the most of the territory of Japanese islands. The government was
centralized and it relied on local officials who relied on the warlords and Buddhist temples. There
were groups who held political power during this period. The emperors were highly prestigious and
politically influential. At this period the country was in peace as there were no outside threat. Due
to this the aristocrats in the court spent time on creating their own rich culture. From the passage of
Service at Court of The Pillow Book, there s detailed information of the women role during that
period and their experience. Sei Shonagon s tells us about her imagination of how it would feel to
be living in the home serving their husbands who don t have a exciting life yet believing there
happy. She says, I wish they could live for a while in our society, even if should mean taking
service as Attendants, so that they might come to know the delights it has to

Stephen Jay Gould Nonmoral Nature Essay
Anthropocentrism, a recurring theme in Stephen Jay Gould s Nonmoral Nature essay, defines
humans as the most important part of society. It is believed by many ethicists that the origin of
anthropocentrism is in the story of Creation, in the book of Genesis. In the story of Creation, it is
interpreted that humanity has power and importance above all other inhabitants of Earth, including
nature. However, different attitudes toward anthropocentrism over time have allowed for the belief
that anthropocentrism connects to facets of morality, where only humans are considered moral. If
only humans are considered moral, then why do people continue to describe nature in terms of
morality? This is a question that Gould attempts to answer in his essay as he expresses his concerns
about how nature should not be defined and described in terms of morality, yet we continue to do
so nonetheless. Gould uses rhetorical devices to argue that the self centered aspect of humans
causes anthropocentric descriptions of the occurrences in nature to justify the cruelty that transpires.
Gould uses specific and parallel diction, along with relation to his audience throughout his essay to
support his argument that humans justify the cruel acts of nature by using anthropocentric
language, as humans are inherently self centered. As I read through the nineteenth and twentieth
century literature on ichneumons, nothing amused me more than the tension between an
intellectual knowledge that wasps should not

448 Responding to the Wii? Market Birth, Collapse, and Rebirthb The videogame industry got
off to an uncertain start in 1972, when television maker Magnavox introduced Odyssey, the first
home videogame console. Priced at $100 (the equivalent of $516 in 2008 dollars),c Odyssey
needed a television screen to project its very limited action. The system came with 12 games,
including versions of tennis and ping pong, each on a printed circuit board.5 However, partly
due to some uninspired marketing and distribution decisions, Odyssey s appeal proved limited.
Magnavox sold more than 100,000 game systems by year end, but sales quickly declined and
Odyssey was pulled from the market.6 Enter Atari Around the same time, a young entrepreneur
named Nolan Bushnell was developing arcade games with the use of then new microprocessor
technology.7 In 1972, the company he started, Atari, launched its first hit game an arcade version
of ping pong.8 In Pong, two players batted a ball of light back and forth between on screen
paddles. The game instructions were simple: Avoid missing ball for high score. 9 Pong was an
immediate success: 8,500 arcade consoles were sold in the first year.10 Bushnell

How Does Jesus Meet The Samaritan Woman
Jesus Meets the Samaritan Woman
God values every person, and He wants all of mankind to know Him personally. God is love, and
all people are worthy of His love. In John 4, Jesus encounter with a Samaritan woman
demonstrates that a believer s testimony is a powerful tool in leading others to Christ. The
Samaritans lived in an area located between Judea and Galilee. Animosity between the Jews and
the Samaritans existed for more than 400 hundred years. Samaritans had Gentile and Jewish blood.
The Jews believed that the Samaritans were a mixed breed whose religion was not true Judaism.
The Jews despised the Samaritans and Jewish travelers took a detour around Samaria in order to
avoid the Samaritans. Jesus disregarded the cultural traditions of ... Show more content on

His encounter with an insignificant Samaritan woman at a Well transforms lives and sparks a
village wide revival. The woman at the Well became a pure vessel and allowed God s living
water to flow through her to others. It does not matter that the woman is a Samaritan. Gender and
nationality are not important. The discussion between Jesus and the Samaritan woman is the
longest recorded conversation between Jesus and another person. No one is shunned in God s
community. By ignoring cultural traditions and choosing to travel through Samaria, Jesus
demonstrates that his mission is to save the entire world, not just the Jews (Freeman). God
wants everyone to receive new life in Jesus Christ and never thirst again. God s living water is
available to everyone, and it is off limits to no one. The Samaritan woman met Jesus, learned
about Him, came to believe in Him and shared her experience with others. Every Christian should
be bold and confident enough to share the Word of God with strangers, neighbors, family, and
friends. Be a vessel that God s living water can flow

Slavery And The Slave Owners
Slaves; people who are the property of and wholly subject to another. Why did it begin in the
first place? It was not until December 6th of 1865 when congress finally ratified a law to abolish
slavery. However, words of the law still had not spread and it would take around a year for the
slave owners to finally set the slaves free. The process of freeing the slaves was full of misery,
pain, and constant insults by the majority of the white population. However, despite
discouragement from the whites, the black people(with the support of some whites) pulled through
and achieved the main goal of being independent. That event took a while to occur, the real
question is how did blacks and whites resist slaveryuntil it was finally abolished. How did the
slaves counter the abuse and harassment of the slave owners? I hypothesized that the blacks were
able to withstand the punishment and slowly undermine slavery due to their intelligence. And at
the end of slavery, both races would be intellectually equal. Back then slaves were supposedly
inferior to white peopleand they did not and also could not have the same intelligence as the
whites. This idea was disproven countless times, one unique example documented in the book
Rebels Against Slavery is:, This master took his very light skinned black to the marketplace to be
sold. Meanwhile he went to make arrangements for a hotel room. When the master returned he was
bound in chains. While he was trying to prove that he wasn t a

Capitalism And Socialism And Capitalism
For more than a century capitalism and socialism have been contending to be the best economic
system. Socialism is a political and economic theory of social organization that advocates that the
means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community
as a whole. Capitalismis an economic and political system in which a country s trade and
industry that is controlled by private owners for profit. Capitalism is the heart and soul of
America s economy. A capitalist economy can take a person from rags to riches or from riches
to rags depending on the path that is taken by one s free will. This concept has made many
American citizens wonder if the capitalist path the path worth taking. There have been radicals
throughout the history of the U.S. who were not satisfied by the capitalist system as well as its
ideals. One of those radicals, Huey Long, a Democratic populist who was a senator of Louisiana
from 1932 1935, gave a speech entitled Share Our Wealth on February 23, 1934. The speech
supported the ideals of socialism by suggesting equal distribution of wealth throughout the nation.
Socialism may have its perks but capitalism is the best path to take since capitalism provides
society with more benefits through economic competition, prosperity, and a moral system that
promotes self interest. After World War I ended on November 11, 1918, American capitalism
started to change, especially when capitalism hit an economic climax during

The Evolution of Management Thought
The Evolution of Management Thought
Through the practice of management and the continued development of commerce and wealth we
are transforming our lives. In Massachusetts (USA) in the 1850s the life expectancy of a male
would have been 37 years of age and a female 40: in 1929 it was 58 for a male and 61 for a female;
nowadays life expectancy would be in the region 70 80 years.
While appreciating the past success of management we would also recognize that today s
accelerating pace of change is putting pressure on our organizations to be at the forefront of
management thinking. If we want to maintain our standard of living our rate of change has to be
comparative to the rest of the world.
But our present day management thinking has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our legal system is based on this misconception.
Into this growing of industrial society comes another Scot Daniel McCallum as President of the
New York to Eire Railroad. In 1854 he was facing specific problems related to the size of his
organization and a workforce that was in the main uneducated. His workers were immigrant and
with an agricultural background and not used to a factory discipline imposed by management. In
this environment he determines sound management as being based on: * Good discipline *
Specific and detailed job descriptions * Frequent and accurate reporting of performance * Pay and
promotion based on merit * Clearly defined hierarchy of superiors and subordinates * Enforcement
of personal responsibility and accountability. * The search for and correction of errors
From this thinking he follows the classic hierarchical organization chart.
Charles Darwin s work on The Origin of the Species is published in 1859. Herbert Spencer (1820
1903) subsequently develops the theme of survival of the fittest in his Social Darwinism. Our
society accepts the essential nature of competition, survival of the fittest and adulation of winners.

Texas State And Local Government
Cailen Hollins
Texas State and Local Government (04706) The two states of Texas and California have vastly
different methods of taxation and they also differ in how they spend these taxes collected. In the
past, many people packed up and moved out west to California because they saw it as the land of
opportunity, but recently, this trend has changed as many individuals and businesses have been
moving from California down to Texas. This is a relevant point to discuss because this movement
has much to do with how California and Texas both taxtheir citizens. Texas prefers a regressive tax
system, which taxes citizens by letting the taxes fall as the tax base increases, California
implements the opposite method through more progressive taxes. While citizens may prefer Texas
s system of limited taxation, this also severely effects what services the government is able to
provide to its citizens, which is why I would argue for slightly higher taxes so that Texas can
obtain more benefits in the long run. Many citizens have moved to states like Texas and
California because they see it as a place of opportunities to find careers or raise families. Despite
Texas being the second largest state in America, according to the 2010 Census, its population was
lower than that of California. California s total population amounted to 37, 253, 956, meanwhile
Texas was only at 25, 145, 561. Consequently, in 2014 the total taxes collected in California were
higher than Texas, with California

Speech On The Hitler Youth
Speaking on the Hitler Youth, and just how violently anti Semitic the group was, Jewish
survivor Marcel Back explained, On Sundays we like to go have a nice excursion in the forest,
and then you saw a few of those so you tried to avoid to get close to them because they could beat
you up (USC SFI VHA, Marcel Back). Another survivor, Fred Berdach noted, There were Hitler
Youth on the streets [...] and they became bullies. You were bullied in the streets, you were
bullied in the schools, you were bullied anywhere and everywhere (USC SFI VHA, Fred
Berdach). Berdach s account was in reference to the evolution of the Hitler Youth in 1938, just
three years before the beginning of the mass killing. Many of the then Hitler Youth members
would have been eligible to become soldiers in WWII, as well as the older ex members. Perhaps
the Hitler Youth members played the roles of enforcers of the killing program and pressured others
into doing the same. A further demonstration of latent prejudice in twentieth century societies
contributing to genocide is the lack of large scale support for the Jews from outsiders. According to
Shlomo Aronson, the Allied Powers had influence in the Holocaust and could have taken steps to
lessen the plight of the Jews, but instead turned a blind eye (Aronson, pp.266). Citing three sets of
circumstances influencing Allied decisions to not intervene, Aronson noted that the Allies were not

explore Mars and make a home there because humans could develop chronic boredom during the

foreign sensation to me; we two are as familiar as a pair of twins in the womb. As I grow more
aware, the ache of my body becomes more persistent. My feet are mostly numb except for the
occasional sting of the cold snow on my bare toes. I pull myself up from the frozen ground and
wrap my tattered, yellow shawl closer to my frigid body. I sigh as I examine the frayed ends and
the disgusting mustard color the fabric has assumed. I ought to get a new one, but I barely have
enough money for food, much less a nice shawl. This winter has been a particularly bad one. I am

I carefully push my way through the crowd until I reach the source of the music. Behind a thick
pane of glass into an electronics shop, I can see an old, boxy television. The song comes to a
dramatic end as a big news logo scrolls across the screen. I put my palms to the frigid glass and
lean closer, hoping to see through the dingy pane just a little better. A man is on the screen now,
well dressed with slicked back hair and a clean business suit. He holds a stack of papers in his
hands, occasionally tapping them against the desk or looking down so he can read his news
reports. My interest in the man quickly wanes. I do not care much for the weather report (cold),
the status of the local government (poor), or updates on the homelessness rates in the city (high). I
am starting to turn away from the dirty window pane and walk towards a street corner that is good
for begging when the newscaster s face changes abruptly. Startled, I lean in even

Three Basic Steps Of Changing A Flat Tire
In American culture today, citizens in the younger generation rarely do things for themselves.
Most licenses drivers would not even know where to begin if they were to have a flat while
traveling alone. This is not because it is a very difficult task or drivers do not have the tools to do
such, but simply from laziness. Changing a flat tireis a simple fix with a little elbow grease and the
basic tools that are in every car unless someone has removed the tools. The three basic steps of
changing a tire are, relieving the pressure off the tire, removing the tire and replacing the flat with
a new tire. If done incorrectly the driver will be a hazard to themselves and to others on the road.

The Long Goodbye, By John T. Edge, And The Alternate World
Stranger Businesses
There are certain professions in this world that everyday people could not fathom working in. This
article discusses the businesses of a mortuary in The Last Stop by Brian Cable, meat
manufacturing in I m Not Leaving Until I Eat This Thing by John T. Edge, and the alternate world
among female prisoners in The Long Goodbye: Mother s Day in Federal Prison by Amanda Coyne.
To each of these businesses, characters or speakers face a fear of the unusual components that
these fields hold. Finally, the individuals in these stories are conflicted with reaching a resolution
to these fears. Working or owning a business entails a significant period of a person s life, where
one undertakes training in order to be paid for that profession. The Last Stop comprises of a tour
around a mortuary and its dealings with the dead. This business in particular, Goodbody Mortuaries,

Mortuaries are among strange businesses because Throughout our lives, death remains intensely

History of Cosmetology Essay
History of Cosmetology Nail Care
Cosmetology is the study and application of beauty treatment. Branches of specialty including
hairstyling, skin care, cosmetics, manicures/pedicures, and electrology.
Nail Technology is the art and science of beautifying and improving the nails and skin of the hands
and feet.
The history of nail care reveals some intriguing facts. It was a part of aristocracy and a symbol of
status in ancient times. It was in the nineteenth century that nail care started to become a part of
fashion and glamour. Today nail salons all over the world offer various nail care services and
plenty of nail care products are available for use in home but it still in some way reflects that

History of Nail Care in the Nineteenth Century
With the social and technological developments, new tools for nail care began to emerge in
Europe. In 1830 a foot doctor named Sitts invented a wooden manicure tool. Before that metal rod,
acid, scissors etc. were used for manicure. Almond shaped nails or slightly pointed nail styles were
popular at that time.
In 1890 s these trends reached United States. Soon many salons started to offer nail care services
to women. But mostly nail care was a personal thing; women usually took care of their nails by
themselves.
History of nail Care in the Twentieth Century
In the beginning of Twentieth century nail care and nail polish become hugely popular by
courtesy of glamorous Hollywood film stars. New companies were coming in the market with new
nail care tools and techniques. New nail paints and shades arrived together with polish removers,
nail protectors and other tools that made it possible to choose any style at any time and
complement the overall dress up with a matching nail color. At that time manicure was done in
barber shops not in beauty salons.
1970 s was the era of artificial nails. These nails looked real, were usually long and worn by the
rich. Soon nail drills were introduced to use on acrylic nails. Nail charms, gold nails as well as
nail art were getting popular. Then French manicure arrived in the market and it was ruled the

Insanity In Edgar Allan Poe s The Tell Tale Heart
Insanity is not always seen directly from the outside. Edgar Allan Poe once said, I became
insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity. Someone may appear normal, but no one can read
someone else s mind when it comes to mental health. In Edgar Allan Poe s short story The Tell
Tale Heart, the narrator strives to support his lucidity after murdering the old man under his care.
Although he repeatedly claims that he is logical and acts with sagacity, the narrator s noetic
process and behaviors indicate he actually is insane. The narrator s lack of reason and auditory
hallucinations provide proof of his dementia. To begin with, the narrator s lack of reason for his
groundless actions provides evidence for his insanity, contradicting the belief that he is
mentally stable. The narrator had no rational reason to murder the old man. For example, the
narrator stated Object there was none. Passion there was none. I loved the old man. He had
never wronged me. He had never given me insult (p 1). Therefore, the old man had never done
anything to harm the narrator, nor had he ever wronged him in any way. The only reason the
narrator killed the old man was because he was deranged in multiple ways; one of his significant
reasons however, was because he felt the old man s eye was threatening. Moreover, he says
Whenever it [the eye] fell upon me, my blood ran cold; and so by degrees very gradually I made up
my mind to take the life of the old man, and thus rid myself of the

My Experience With A Learning Disability
Sitting in class, I could not help but look around and notice that everyone else knew what they
were doing while I just sat there silently, pretending to fit in. I had no clue what I was supposed
to be doing because I did not really understand the lesson the teacher had just finished teaching. I
didn t want to ask a question because it seemed like I was the only one that was lost, so instead, I
just sat at my desk with my head down and pretended to write on my paper. I have repeated this
scenario on numerous occasions. In 5th grade, I was diagnosed with a learning disabilitywhich
affected the way I learned and my ability to understand what others around me said. My mom
noticed that I was working really hard to accomplish the same work that other kids my age did
with less effort and in a shorter amount of time. We saw a psychologist who sent me to a
specialist who diagnosed me with a learning disability in central auditory processing, and also
had a very weak short term memory. Basically, this means that my brain processes information
slower than the average. Although my hearing is normal, it takes my brain longer to comprehend
what I hear and then process it. Sometimes I miss parts of what people say because my brain is
not able to understand everything that is being said all at once so I need directions written down
or given slowly in order to truly comprehend.

Fact or Fiction?
Total Recall Paper
PHIL 2003 013
Usually at least once in a lifetime a person will question whether a dream was reality or not. It is
rare to think I am just dreaming in a dream. In the 1990s movie Total Recall the director, Paul
Verhoeven, attempts to illustrate the puzzling question of what is reality and what is not? With
Arnold Schwarzenegger in this futuristic flick, the director cleverly confuses the audience about
what is real in the movie, making one doubt each previous scene. Total Recall begins with the main
character, Douglas Quaid, on a mission to decipher a reoccurring dream that takes place in Mars.

His belief in God even affected his theories on reality. One of his theories was that he was being
deceived by a conniving and mischievous demon that was hell bent on distorting his reality. The
demon could be comparable to the evil dictator and the memory replacing machine in Total
Recall. Despite the evil demon, Descartes did manage to reveal one very true thing and that is
that he must exist if he truly is being deceived by the evil demon because he needs to exist in
order to be deceived. He later summarizes this into his famous phrase I think, therefore, I am.
(Descartes 136). The second philosopher that analyses the problem of what is reality and what
is not in the Introduction to Philosophy textbook is Christopher Grau. Grau, in his essay,
expands on Descartes idea of the evil demon by basing it off of The Matrix with his theory, The
Brain in a Vat Theory. The theory is just like it sounds. Just like in Total Recall, an extremely
intelligent device has the ability to give humans and gives them a false reality of a life. What
Grau is purposing is that we, as people, could quite possibly be hooked up to a super computer and
given false memories and experiences as well. In conclusion, Total Recall is a

How Did The Crusades Affect The Medieval World
IMPACT OF THE CRUSADES ON THE LATE MEDIEVAL WORLD. The Crusades greatly
impacted economic expansion as well as the expansion of Europe as a whole. Europe regained
contact with the outside world, and as it did so, trade with the Middle East, India, and China
brought goods as well as knowledge. Merchants in Italyconverted the ships used to carry crusaders
into trade ships that would sail to the Middle East. The Crusaders introduced textiles, spices, foods
products and many more goods to the Europeans from the Middle East, and through all of this
trade came the development of a money economy. The crusaders brought works from Greek
philosophers back to Europe, where Muslim scholars translated them to Latin which prompted
further learning in the West. Europeans learned new castle building... Show more content on

Christians were introduced to Arabic philosophy and science, and along with this came new
religious orders and practices. The church clashed with monarchs after their power increased, and
after the church did not reunite with the Byzantine empire, many started to question the church s
motives. Now that people had the knowledge and resources to read the bible, some felt as though
this clashed with the previous actions of the church. Although this seemed like a time for religious
tolerance after such a conflict fueled by faith, the Reconquista in Spain expelled Muslims out of
Spain and those who did not convert to Christianity were burned at the steak. The crusades set the
foundation for the Age of Exploration. While the Chinese had been traveling as far as Arabia and
Africa since 618 AD, the Crusades influenced nations such as Spain to explore new travel. The
Spanish had become inspired to discover new trade routes, as well as overtake land,

Marketing Strategy Concepts, Methodology, And Theory
In this part, related literatures about marketing strategy concepts, methodology, and theory, are
reviewed. These concepts, theory and methodology are the foundations of research design of this
work.
2.1Marketing strategy
The material world is objective while the people s psychologies are very subjective. The same
concepts from different people may mean different implications. The concepts of strategy tend to be
used in many scenarios and embody different meanings. The marketing strategy also has its specific
connotation and extensions. And there are some difference among the academic and practitioner
for this concepts. So, the marketing strategy concept needed clarification.
Grant (2011) defined the strategy as the means by which individuals and organizations to achieve
their goals. From our understanding, the means to achieve goals is the methodology to achieve
their goals. So, the critical part of marketing strategy is the policy and guideline of marketing which
based on the analysis of internal resource and external environments and competitor.
However, many other definitions of strategy are about the goals selection, Recourse allocation,
action procedure, and plans. Such as below definition:
The determination of the long run goals and objectives of an enterprise, and the adoption of
courses of action and the allocation of resources necessary for carrying out these goals Alfred

The Diagnosis and Treatment of Bipolar Disorder Versus Unipolar Depression
Bipolar disorder is a serious mental disorder, but unfortunately our collective knowledge of this
mental illness is not extensive. Unlike depression, where patients are strictly sullen and deeply blue,
the bipolar patient experiences that same depression only flanked by extreme highs a hyperactivity
and increase in serotonin. It is this inconsistency in mood a clinical mood swinging, that makes
bipolar disorder so difficult to diagnose. Difficulty, as will be discussed in the paper, comes from
patients inability to recognize these highs as potentially troublesome, and instead opt to focus only
on the depressed moods that follow. Conventional thought, after all, ... Show more content on

Viewing the serotonin (as well as other neurotransmitters directly responsible for mood such as
endorphins, and dopamine) levels of a bipolar patient will often resemble a sine curve with
consistent crests and troughs, and an episode refers to one crest or trough on the curve. Bipolar
I disorder is similar to bipolar II, but patients typically alternate between mania and depression,
rather than elevated mood (hypomania) of bipolar II. The bipolar patient typically suffers
multiple episodes over the course of a year, each usually lasting three to six months (Kessler
1994). If more than four episodes occur within a 12 month period, the patient is said to be in rapid
cycling (Coryell 2003).
The manic, episodic nature of bipolar disorder has made difficult for primary care doctors to
diagnose and understand. A 2000 study validates this point 69% of respondents with bipolar
disorder were considered previously misdiagnosed (Hirschfield 2003). The study would go on to
reveal that average bipolar patient receives on average, three and half wrong diagnoses before
being correctly identified as bipolar. While as humans we tend to be cognizant of when we are
depressed and understand that it is good to go to clinician for this, we are less aware that

Why Attending School
I have not attended many different schools but I know that they all have more than one thing in
common, and these things need to be changed somehow, they are just not working. Whether you
are attending primary school, secondary school or college there are always issues with how we
are taught, what is being taught to us and how will it help us at the end of the day. I am sure there
are many reasons why we are taught the way we are and why we need to learn these things. The
list is endless. My entire schoollife I have come to discover patterns from different students
including myself. Attending school and learning is not boring or tiring. The schedule, the
process and the reasoning behind going to school is unfitting. First they tell us what time we
have to be in class without even considering the time of year and what season it is. It does not
sound like much to worry about. But I have realized that students tend to wake up late during the
winter, they take longer getting out of the bed and tend to eat and sleep more meaning they have
less time to focus on homework no attending classes. The early, cold and dark mornings during
winter make it hard for students to leave their beds. The issue is not waking up, the issue is getting
out of the bed. Even though a student might know that they will get into trouble for missing a
lesson, they would rather deal with the teacher than go and face the cold especially at 7h45 in the
morning. What I am trying to say is, in the winter we

Argument Of The Liar Paradox
Liar paradox is a general argument about liars who claim that they are actually lying. For
instance, when a person says, whatever I said is not true, it means that the person is lying and is
telling an indication that shows he or she is lying. Therefore, a paradox can be termed as an
argument with three features including a premise that appears to be the true, a conclusion that
appears to be false, and if the statement can be termed as valid. Liar paradoxis also an argument that
reaches at the contradiction via reasoning about the sentence with the lie. The classical kinds of
sentences are mainly self referential which results to difficulties in the same sentences. For
instance, it can be assumed that the liar sentence is M (Houben, 2001). If in any manner M is
termed as true, then M is false. Further, an indication of semantic incoherence can be use to

Such an approach provides us with no dependable guidance regarding how to avoid the paradoxes.
This is because the liar paradox is wholly dependent upon ideas on how to develop inferences and
manner in which to understand the major semantic concepts of reference, negation or truth and
determine which concept requires revision. In addition, many suggestions have been put forward
on the way in which liar paradox can be dealt with. However, many of these suggestions fail to
provide formal or any detailed theoretical frameworks that can bring its own semantics or syntax
with precision. Any decent means or theory of determining the truth and at the same time depicting
a liar paradox should possess both philosophical justification and a coherent formalism to back it up

Cons Of Transgenic Animals
The insertion of human genes into mammals is not only inducing conflict into nature s ecosystems,
but can result in a new intelligent, human like species that needs proper regulations and authority.
The study of transgenic, or chimeric animals has brought about some serious ethical issues. Many
people are only aware of the issues when it regards the humanrace. However, transgenics play much
more of a role than just to our society, but greater damage is done to nature s ecosystems. Many
consequences may be unleashed once a transgenic animal escapes back into the wild. The potential
harms may include the alteration of the ecologic balance regarding feed sources and predators...and
the disruption of reproduction patterns and their success, (Animal Biotechnology). The quick
extinctionand endangerment of these animals can dwindle... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

As ground breaking as it sounds, Glenn states Further advances in the blending of nonhuman animal
and human DNA could result intentionally or not in chimeric entities possessing degrees of
intelligence or sentience never before seen in nonhuman animals...Could it be patented? (1). Due to
this progressing study, society is questioning whether or not if these animals become too human
like, whether they would need rights and regulations, since they will be technically human . Even if
so, it is uncertain whether these animals would follow these regulations. Humans are a very
dangerous species, destroying both themselves and other species. With the intelligent, nightmarish
human brain, chimeras have the power to dominate the human race. Mammals may disregard the
rules, as humans do as well, thus creating a newer dominating minority that can lead to catastrophe.
This issue is commonly overlooked, but it is indeed possible. Human DNA injections should be
prohibited from being inserted into animals, too many dangers lurk within nature and society s

Afghanistan Post Imperialism
Borders have always lead to separation, but in the era of New Imperialism European governments
began to reconsider division as not merely an effect of borders but a powerful aspect of them.
Many imperialist powers used a divide and conquer strategy while creating borders, and GB was
certainly no exception. Whether it was intentional or not in the case of Afghanistan, GB divided the
Pashtuns, the negative effects of which are still being felt today. In present day Afghanistan,
Pashtuns make up 42% of the population, they are the largest ethnic group. In present day Pakistan,
Pashtuns make up 15% of the population, making them the the second largest ethnic group. After
GB separated Pashtuns, the ethnic group began to fight often within both countries... Show more

Just as civil conflict led to international conflict, international conflict lead to additional threats
from other countries. Although GB only became involved with Afghanistan to prevent Russia
from invading, within two centuries their involvement became futile. In 1979, Soviets invaded
Afghanistan. Even after a long period of independence in Afghanistan, Afghan troops were unable
to defeat the Soviets. The war was brutal, and lasted for an entire decade. Afghanistan remained a
weak state from the Soviet Afghan war, which made them susceptible to intervention from the
U.S in 2001. Both events, the Soviet invasion and the arrival of American troops, can be traced
back to the border. The border led to complex issues which occurred in quick succession, therefore
Afghanistan and Pakistan had to pay attention to the issues that were right in front of them,
because they were so apparent and pressing. However, as Af and Pak were distracted, more
powerful countries like America and Russia were able to invade. It was an awareness of
surrounding political climates that kept Russia and GB out of Afghanistan during the first Anglo
Afghan war, but with their own borders and issues to worry about Af and Pak paid no attention to

What Are The Pros And Cons Of Common Core
Common Core State Standards have been a hot topic for a few years. While both sides of the
argument make valid points, often people lose sight of the greatest importance in the debate. The
students. The children s best interests need to be on the forefront of either side. Nearly all can
agree that in educationa national set of standards is necessary for this country. This is not the first
time in history that America s educational principles have been up for debate. The basic idea of
common core is to prepare students for responsibility as a citizen in this society. Students must be
able to read and distill complex sentences and must be equipped with basic mathematical skills. The
actual impact the standards will have on education will not be revealed for several years, however it
is thought that implementing a national set of standards will nothing... Show more content on

Digging deeper into concepts and increasing rigor will enable our children to be competitive in
today s world and the playing field comparing our educational system to other countries will be
leveled. Higher education has a history of complaining that students are not ready for college level
courses and remediation classes have been necessary. Implementing common core could eliminate
those classes while teaching students how to think and problem solve before leaving high school.
An additional issue against common core is the financial burdens that could be put on schools and
districts as a result of implementation. From purchasing newly aligned textbooks and materials, to
updating technology in order to complete the standard assessment all online. With this assessment
comes an increased value in the results. If the scores are compared nationally it is assumed that
already high stakes testing will only get higher by opening up Pandora s Box of national assessment

The Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC)
In the art and literature memorializing the Civil Rights movement, no one individual is more
prominently represented than Martin Luther King Jr. . He is remembered in books, statues, and
even streets bearing his name in almost every city. One historian said, We trapped King in romantic
images... frozen his legacy in worship. King has become the martyr of the Civil Rights Movement
and his legacy has thus overshadowed the legacy of the other activists and groups who helped move
the Civil Rights movement forward, including the Student Non Violent Coordinating Committee,
an organization created by southern black youth. Though King s actions were powerful tools in the
push for racial equality, his efforts were only a part of the overall impetus driving the United States
towards equality. The Student Non Violent Coordinating Committee ( SNCC ) led activism in a
community based, long term protest fashion. At the same time the Southern Christian Leadership
Council ( SCLC ), the group led by Dr. King, used a media powered and more presentation based
protest method to rally Americans at the national level. Towards the end of the Civil Rights
Movement SNCC became more radical in its approach, eventually leading to its own demise, while
the SCLC stayed religiously peaceful. The different ideas and sometimes contradicting actions of
the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committeeand the Southern Christian Leadership Conference
eventually helped lead to the racial equality as we know it

NDVI and LST images and Climate Hazards Group InfraRed Precipitation with Stations

Brief descriptions of these datasets are given in Table 1. The products of these satellite data were
selected due to free accessibility and near real time availability with fifteen years plus time series,
apart from relatively high spatial and temporal resolutions. The temporally smoothed dekadal (10

Development of NVWSI for drought monitoring The development of NVWSI was based on the
assumption that when there is sufficient vegetation water supply in the soil, there is a normal
growth of vegetation. In other words, normal vegetation growth is affected when soil water
deficit has happened during a drought period. In case of drought, NDVI value (observed by the
satellite sensor) is reduced as vegetation partially closes leaf stomata to reduce leaf surface
transpiration in order to save water in the canopy (Placeholder4). During this self protective
mechanism the leaf and canopy temperatures (LST) increase. In this modality, the ratio of
vegetation index and canopy temperature can show the state of water supply for vegetation,
with the greater ratio implying sufficient water supply and vice versa and this approach is
widely applied in drought monitoring (Sheng et al. 2003; Zhang et al, 2006; Huang et al. 2008;
Gao 2008; Bao 2012). Usually, the simple ratio of the two variables (NDVI and LST) can be
defined as VWSI using Equation (1).

We Real Cool Gwendolyn Brooks Analysis
We Real Cool, by Gwendolyn Brooks is a fervent short poem that tells a story of teenage rebellion.
This poem is a formal verse ballad which uses simple sentences that create a steady meter giving the
poem a catchy jazz like quality. Although the poem is short, it packs a powerful message about
youth. Gwendolyn Brooks centered her works predominately around the African American
consciousness. During the 1960 s when the poem was written, many teens especially young
African American men felt misunderstood and like the world was set up for them to fail. On
the surface, it appears this poem is a mere description of young adults that are misjudged. The
deeper message of this poem addresses the dangers of peer pressure, and its detrimental effects
to self identity because of the disconnect between society and youth of that time. Peer pressure
can take place whenever people gather and spend frequent time together. Most people are subject
to its effects and often experience it because of shared experiences or they share the same
perspective on life. This becomes dangerous when a group has enough influence to dictate an
individual s way of thinking or behavior. When an individual is desperate to find a place to
belong, they will follow the crowd even if they know that they are participating in something
immoral; this is demonstrated in We Real Cool. As the poem begins, the reader is introduced to the
subjects of the poem, The Pool Players. Seven at the

Child Soldiers Persuasive Speech
War is a very tough thing to handle. There is sacrifice and death, and yet peace is still not found.
Now countries like the U.S. might fight with others but they don t use children to do it. Other
countries like Sierra Leone are using children to fight their battles. Their horrible methods are
immoral and unsafe, so it is only safe to say that child soldiers are the victims of this unspeakable
act. The goal should be to rehabilitate these children, not punish them. We should give these kids a
chance at a normal life. Some of these children have watched their parents die in front of them or
have been victims of rape and abuse. They have nothing and if we punish them even more by
taking away the one thing they are still trying to hold on too,... Show more content on

Dual Enrollment Program
Around seven months ago, several of my classmates and I walked into our high school s computer
lab and logged onto Northwestern State University s (NSU) Moodle website for the first time. Over
the next seven months, we logged into our accounts several more times, often every day of the
week. As dual enrollment students, we have been attending online college courses through this
website as high schoolstudents. These courses allow us to get a head start in our college
educations. While this experience has been largely beneficial to us as students, it has not been an
entirely pleasant one. The NSU dual enrollment program has issues, but there are solutions to these
problems. Before going into the specifics of these issues, I will say that... Show more content on

The other courses had all of the work assigned from the beginning, and the teachers never posted
anything in their News forums. Another concern with communication is that some teachers do not
even answer students questions. Several of my classmates have stories of asking a teacher
through email and the messaging system on Moodle about a grade or an assignment and never
getting so much as a confirmation that the teacher ever even read the messages. I have personally
messaged a professor on Moodle after receiving confusing results on an essay before and received
this lack of response. This suggests that these teachers have apathy for their dual enrollment
students. This feeling does not do much to motivate students. The problem is rather
straightforward, so the solution is as well. The only real way to fix this issue is for dual enrollment
professor s to become more involved in their students education. These teachers could post news or
announcements around once a week like other teachers already do. They could give attention to
students concerns and give informative and timely responses. The second problem to address is
retention of the information we are given. I have observed that my classmates find it hard to retain
the knowledge we receive from these courses. A large part of this is actually the students fault for
not studying the information. They do not study, however, because they find the courses to be
boring. I noticed this mostly in our Fine Arts

Abstract
Snapchat now is the third most popular social media app competing with Instagram and
Facebook. Moreover, it is defined as an ephemeral instant messaging application that allows

theses scales, uses and gratification theory, Katz, E., Blumler, J.G., Gurevitch, M. (1975) and
Hyperpersonal theory, Walther (1996) were included in the study to understand the snapchat app

Introduction In the digital world, snapchat application becomes a growing phenomenon. It attracts
hundreds of users. Snapchat application allows its users to take pictures and videos that have an
ephemeral nature of messages, these snaps could be viewed up to 10 seconds and then disappeared.
In this paper, I argue that with this self destructing nature of messaging, the app has the chance to
mimic the reality interaction of face to face communication. Although,

The Similarities Between The Joint Commission (DNV)
The Similarities between the joint commission and DVN are:
Both the DNV and Joint Commission are organizations that conduct inspections and accreditations.
Accreditations have an impact on the way hospitals operate only because a hospital makes critical
decisions of how it treats diseases, assigns clinical staffing and stores its medications.
The DNV and the Joint Commission have the same goals and that is to provide the safest, highest
quality care possible to the patients.
When it comes to cost they both vary by facility size and complexity but are comparable to one
another in cost. Which could average from $33,000 for three years. The difference between the
joint commission and DVN are:
DNV surveys its member hospitals annually and are

  • 2. Effects Of Amendment 2 On The State Florida Has anyone done any research on what the effects Amendment 2 would have on the state Florida? Well the opposition clearly did not do any research and the politicians used smooth talking fallacies to blind side the voters. It is time to see the holes in their stance on medical marijuana. The Smokescreen as defined by the author Joe Cardona from the Miami Herald, is the lack of liability Amendment 2 brought to the table when it hit the polls in October. His meaning behind this is because a medical marijuana user would not be receiving a prescription from a trained medical physician. Instead, they would be receiving a referral for a license to receive treatment and they would have it forever. Also as part of Joe Cardona s Smokescreen theory, because the fact that Amendment 2 is a constitutional amendment that there would have been no way to tweak or amended it, like a legislative law would. So regulating the consumption of medical marijuana would be impossible. (Cardona, 2014) Unfortunately he is not the only one to interpret Amendment 2 this way. Dr. Rafael Miguel, director of the Sarasota Memorial Institute for Advanced Medicine s Pain Medicine Program and representatives for Drug Free America. He states that You don t get refills, you get it forever. There s no regulation on consumption. (Gillin, 2014) These bold statements were completely wrong and very misinforming. The referral would also have a date attached, so a doctor would put on the referral how long the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Music Is An Identifying Characteristic Of Film And Television Music is an identifying characteristic of film and television; everyone who has been exposed to popular culture knows the theme for Star Wars and The Simpsons, even if they have never seen the movie or show. Disney movies are no exception, and this is largely due to the genius creative mind of Alan Menken. Menken is best known for composing the scores for some of the most beloved Disney classics, including Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Hercules, Pocahontas, and Tangled. He also made his mark composing for highly acclaimed Broadway musicals, including Little Shop of Horrorsand Newsies, as well as the stage adaptations of some of his Disney hits. The familiar songs composed by Menken are permanently ingrained in our minds and are largely responsible for the success of the films and theatrical works he was associated with. Alan Menkenwas born on July 22nd, 1949 in New York City. He grew up in New Rochelle, New York with his sisters, Faye and Leah. Menken s family was heavily involved in the performing arts, setting the stage for his career at a young age. His mother, Judy Menken, was an aspiring actress and playwright; his father, Norman Menken was a dentist but played boogie woogie and show tunes on the piano as a hobby. Alan Menken aspired to be a composer from a young age, but the men in his family typically became dentists and he felt that he was expected to continue this tradition. However, he did learn to play the piano, violin, and guitar as he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Power Of Love In Sonnet 55 Anja Kroon Mr. Signorelli Honors British Literature 23 October 2017 The Immortal Power of Poetry The Shakespearian Sonnets, written circa 1600, follow ideas and beliefs present during the Renaissance (Mary). During this time period, god, religion, and superstition were driving forces of everyday life. Nearly everyone in Shakespeare s audience believed in a branch of Christianity and the effects of the faith are evident in his writings, especially Sonnet 55. Sonnet 55, sometimes known as Not marble not the gilded monuments , emphasizes the true strength of literary works as they stand against the test of time. The poem specifically asserts that the power of love and poetry is stronger than the strength of death through the use of imagery and descriptive writing (Mary). Shakespeare s famous sonnets followed the standard English sonnet pattern of 3 quatrains with a rhyme scheme of ABAB followed by a rhyming couplet. Each quatrain in the sonnet discusses a new idea regarding time and the relationship between death and immortality. At the time this poem was written, time, in the eyes of the people, seemed to move toward a single event, the last judgement (Mary). The last judgment is a belief in the Christian faith that all souls will face a day of judgement for their sins. The first quatrain discusses the concept of time wearing on in conjunction with the negative effects of death and decay (Mary). Although time itself cannot be physically manipulated, there is still an ever present hope burning inside humans to control time. Ultimately, humans long to live forever but as reality dictates, all living things must die. Shakespeare works around this reality by channeling that hope into the immortality of literary works specifically poetry. This message is conveyed early in the poem with the lines, Nor marble nor the gilded monuments / Of princes shall outlive this powerful rhyme (1 2). This powerful rhyme (2), is a reference to the poem itself and Shakespeare compares its endurance to that of monuments and grave stones (Almedia). These lines indicate the strength in the poetry itself as monuments and grave stones are items that are considered to exist for a time close to eternity. The discussion of time is ... Some of these are major; others are so minor they go unnoticed. The philosopher Jiddu Krishnamurti who lived during the 20th century said What is needed, rather than running away or controlling or suppressing or any other resistance, is understanding fear; that means, watch it, learn about it, come directly into contact with it. We are to learn about fear, not how to escape from it. Understanding the physiology of fear may provide a foundation for better coping and treatment strategies in the future. Since anxiety is experienced commonly, it is important to be aware of the body s response. These effects are completely normal, and act as a natural coping method of the body. The physical response to phobias is a bit more extreme. The basic, minor effects begin with sweating, trembling, hot flashes or chills, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, a choking sensation, rapid heartbeat, chest pain or a feeling of tightness in the chest, and a sensation of butterflies in the stomach. These increase to symptoms such as nausea, headaches and dizziness, feeling faint numbness or pins and needles, dry mouth, ringing in your ears, and feeling confused or disorientated. Paranoia is similar, but manifests itself through mainly psychological effects. Terror differs from anxiety and phobia in that there may be lasting physical effects. The immediate response is an adrenaline rush called the fight or flight response. When this is triggered, the person experiencing this intense fear will either face the problem head on, or run from the cause of the terror. The short term effects (those that last for a few days or weeks) are the body s way of dealing with a particularly frightening trauma. These feelings are those that each person tends to be aware of whenever a situation goes wrong in their lives, and the feelings should seem ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gender Roles In Creation Myths Bhaumik Patel Mythology Mr. Hall 7 November, 16 Gender Roles in Creation Myths from Around the World Different cultures and societies have their story of how the world began. These stories vary in the process, but they all share one common theme. All of the stories begin with nothing or chaos, that is until one being creates light, time, earth and its occupants. One common thing all myths share is the role and status of women and men. In the Greek myth women were less dominant, Hindu myth women are not even mentioned, and in Cherokee myth women are shown to be inferior. Greek creation myth highlights how men and women differ in their status and roles. Women were the inferior sex when compared to men, they were seen as intellects, and child ... Consumers that buy fantastic brand cleaner can also be considered as bounded rationality because they believe in the rule of thumbs that says the higher the price of goods the higher quality of the goods will be. Since the price of Fantastik brand cleaner is higher than that of Pathmark, they apply the rule of thumbs before making a choice between the two brands. 2.Based on my own prior experience as a shopper, I can definitely agree that the rule of thumb is rarely valid with a genuine evidence from my personal experience as a shopper e.g. there was a time I bought a pair of jeans from one of my favorite stores at a very low price without considering the quality of the jeans and a friend of mine also bought the same pair of jeans from a different store at a higher price believing in the rule of thumb( the higher the price the higher the quality of the item). • 10. Comparison Of The Pillow Book And The Song Of Roland Both The Pillow Book and The Song of Roland gives us an insight about the dominant groups during its respective period. The Pillow Book by Sei Shonagon provides us with the picture of aristocracy in Japan during the Heian period. Sei Shonagon served as a court lady to the empress around the year 1000 and through her time she records her opinions and her experiences in the court. On the other hand The Song of Roland offers us the history of battles during the reign of Charlemagne and how his government was set up and controlled. The Heian court controlled the most of the territory of Japanese islands. The government was centralized and it relied on local officials who relied on the warlords and Buddhist temples. There were groups who held political power during this period. The emperors were highly prestigious and politically influential. At this period the country was in peace as there were no outside threat. Due to this the aristocrats in the court spent time on creating their own rich culture. From the passage of Service at Court of The Pillow Book, there s detailed information of the women role during that period and their experience. Sei Shonagon s tells us about her imagination of how it would feel to be living in the home serving their husbands who don t have a exciting life yet believing there happy. • 11. Stephen Jay Gould Nonmoral Nature Essay Anthropocentrism, a recurring theme in Stephen Jay Gould s Nonmoral Nature essay, defines humans as the most important part of society. It is believed by many ethicists that the origin of anthropocentrism is in the story of Creation, in the book of Genesis. In the story of Creation, it is interpreted that humanity has power and importance above all other inhabitants of Earth, including nature. However, different attitudes toward anthropocentrism over time have allowed for the belief that anthropocentrism connects to facets of morality, where only humans are considered moral. If only humans are considered moral, then why do people continue to describe nature in terms of morality? This is a question that Gould attempts to answer in his essay as he expresses his concerns about how nature should not be defined and described in terms of morality, yet we continue to do so nonetheless. Gould uses rhetorical devices to argue that the self centered aspect of humans causes anthropocentric descriptions of the occurrences in nature to justify the cruelty that transpires. Gould uses specific and parallel diction, along with relation to his audience throughout his essay to support his argument that humans justify the cruel acts of nature by using anthropocentric language, as humans are inherently self centered. As I read through the nineteenth and twentieth century literature on ichneumons, nothing amused me more than the tension between an intellectual knowledge that wasps should not ... Market Birth, Collapse, and Rebirthb The videogame industry got off to an uncertain start in 1972, when television maker Magnavox introduced Odyssey, the first home videogame console. Priced at $100 (the equivalent of $516 in 2008 dollars),c Odyssey needed a television screen to project its very limited action. The system came with 12 games, including versions of tennis and ping pong, each on a printed circuit board.5 However, partly due to some uninspired marketing and distribution decisions, Odyssey s appeal proved limited. Magnavox sold more than 100,000 game systems by year end, but sales quickly declined and Odyssey was pulled from the market.6 Enter Atari Around the same time, a young entrepreneur named Nolan Bushnell was developing arcade games with the use of then new microprocessor technology.7 In 1972, the company he started, Atari, launched its first hit game an arcade version of ping pong.8 In Pong, two players batted a ball of light back and forth between on screen paddles. The game instructions were simple: Avoid missing ball for high score. 9 Pong was an immediate success: 8,500 arcade consoles were sold in the first year.10 Bushnell ... God is love, and all people are worthy of His love. In John 4, Jesus encounter with a Samaritan woman demonstrates that a believer s testimony is a powerful tool in leading others to Christ. The Samaritans lived in an area located between Judea and Galilee. Animosity between the Jews and the Samaritans existed for more than 400 hundred years. Samaritans had Gentile and Jewish blood. The Jews believed that the Samaritans were a mixed breed whose religion was not true Judaism. • 14. Slavery And The Slave Owners Slaves; people who are the property of and wholly subject to another. Why did it begin in the first place? It was not until December 6th of 1865 when congress finally ratified a law to abolish slavery. However, words of the law still had not spread and it would take around a year for the slave owners to finally set the slaves free. The process of freeing the slaves was full of misery, pain, and constant insults by the majority of the white population. However, despite discouragement from the whites, the black people(with the support of some whites) pulled through and achieved the main goal of being independent. That event took a while to occur, the real question is how did blacks and whites resist slaveryuntil it was finally abolished. How did the slaves counter the abuse and harassment of the slave owners? I hypothesized that the blacks were able to withstand the punishment and slowly undermine slavery due to their intelligence. And at the end of slavery, both races would be intellectually equal. Back then slaves were supposedly inferior to white peopleand they did not and also could not have the same intelligence as the whites. This idea was disproven countless times, one unique example documented in the book Rebels Against Slavery is:, This master took his very light skinned black to the marketplace to be sold. Meanwhile he went to make arrangements for a hotel room. When the master returned he was bound in chains. While he was trying to prove that he wasn t a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Capitalism And Socialism And Capitalism For more than a century capitalism and socialism have been contending to be the best economic system. Socialism is a political and economic theory of social organization that advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole. Capitalismis an economic and political system in which a country s trade and industry that is controlled by private owners for profit. Capitalism is the heart and soul of America s economy. A capitalist economy can take a person from rags to riches or from riches to rags depending on the path that is taken by one s free will. This concept has made many American citizens wonder if the capitalist path the path worth taking. There have been radicals throughout the history of the U.S. who were not satisfied by the capitalist system as well as its ideals. One of those radicals, Huey Long, a Democratic populist who was a senator of Louisiana from 1932 1935, gave a speech entitled Share Our Wealth on February 23, 1934. The speech supported the ideals of socialism by suggesting equal distribution of wealth throughout the nation. Socialism may have its perks but capitalism is the best path to take since capitalism provides society with more benefits through economic competition, prosperity, and a moral system that promotes self interest. After World War I ended on November 11, 1918, American capitalism started to change, especially when capitalism hit an economic climax during ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While appreciating the past success of management we would also recognize that today s accelerating pace of change is putting pressure on our organizations to be at the forefront of management thinking. • 18. Texas State And Local Government Cailen Hollins Texas State and Local Government (04706) The two states of Texas and California have vastly different methods of taxation and they also differ in how they spend these taxes collected. In the past, many people packed up and moved out west to California because they saw it as the land of opportunity, but recently, this trend has changed as many individuals and businesses have been moving from California down to Texas. This is a relevant point to discuss because this movement has much to do with how California and Texas both taxtheir citizens. Texas prefers a regressive tax system, which taxes citizens by letting the taxes fall as the tax base increases, California implements the opposite method through more progressive taxes. While citizens may prefer Texas s system of limited taxation, this also severely effects what services the government is able to provide to its citizens, which is why I would argue for slightly higher taxes so that Texas can obtain more benefits in the long run. Many citizens have moved to states like Texas and California because they see it as a place of opportunities to find careers or raise families. Despite Texas being the second largest state in America, according to the 2010 Census, its population was lower than that of California. California s total population amounted to 37, 253, 956, meanwhile Texas was only at 25, 145, 561. Consequently, in 2014 the total taxes collected in California were higher than Texas, with California ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Speech On The Hitler Youth Speaking on the Hitler Youth, and just how violently anti Semitic the group was, Jewish survivor Marcel Back explained, On Sundays we like to go have a nice excursion in the forest, and then you saw a few of those so you tried to avoid to get close to them because they could beat you up (USC SFI VHA, Marcel Back). Another survivor, Fred Berdach noted, There were Hitler Youth on the streets [...] and they became bullies. You were bullied in the streets, you were bullied in the schools, you were bullied anywhere and everywhere (USC SFI VHA, Fred Berdach). Berdach s account was in reference to the evolution of the Hitler Youth in 1938, just three years before the beginning of the mass killing. Many of the then Hitler Youth members would have been eligible to become soldiers in WWII, as well as the older ex members. Perhaps the Hitler Youth members played the roles of enforcers of the killing program and pressured others into doing the same. A further demonstration of latent prejudice in twentieth century societies contributing to genocide is the lack of large scale support for the Jews from outsiders. According to Shlomo Aronson, the Allied Powers had influence in the Holocaust and could have taken steps to lessen the plight of the Jews, but instead turned a blind eye (Aronson, pp.266). Citing three sets of circumstances influencing Allied decisions to not intervene, Aronson noted that the Allies were not keen on being depicted as Jew sympathizers and were in fact very ... The narrator s lack of reason and auditory hallucinations provide proof of his dementia. The narrator had no rational reason to murder the old man. For example, the narrator stated Object there was none. Passion there was none. I loved the old man. He had never wronged me. He had never given me insult (p 1). Therefore, the old man had never done anything to harm the narrator, nor had he ever wronged him in any way. The only reason the narrator killed the old man was because he was deranged in multiple ways; one of his significant reasons however, was because he felt the old man s eye was threatening. He later summarizes this into his famous phrase I think, therefore, I am. (Descartes 136). The second philosopher that analyses the problem of what is reality and what is not in the Introduction to Philosophy textbook is Christopher Grau. Viewing the serotonin (as well as other neurotransmitters directly responsible for mood such as endorphins, and dopamine) levels of a bipolar patient will often resemble a sine curve with consistent crests and troughs, and an episode refers to one crest or trough on the curve. Bipolar I disorder is similar to bipolar II, but patients typically alternate between mania and depression, rather than elevated mood (hypomania) of bipolar II. The bipolar patient typically suffers multiple episodes over the course of a year, each usually lasting three to six months (Kessler 1994). If more than four episodes occur within a 12 month period, the patient is said to be in rapid cycling (Coryell 2003). The manic, episodic nature of bipolar disorder has made difficult for primary care doctors to diagnose and understand. A 2000 study validates this point 69% of respondents with bipolar disorder were considered previously misdiagnosed (Hirschfield 2003). The study would go on to reveal that average bipolar patient receives on average, three and half wrong diagnoses before being correctly identified as bipolar. Why Attending School I have not attended many different schools but I know that they all have more than one thing in common, and these things need to be changed somehow, they are just not working. Whether you are attending primary school, secondary school or college there are always issues with how we are taught, what is being taught to us and how will it help us at the end of the day. I am sure there are many reasons why we are taught the way we are and why we need to learn these things. The list is endless. My entire schoollife I have come to discover patterns from different students including myself. Attending school and learning is not boring or tiring. The schedule, the process and the reasoning behind going to school is unfitting. First they tell us what time we have to be in class without even considering the time of year and what season it is. It does not sound like much to worry about. But I have realized that students tend to wake up late during the winter, they take longer getting out of the bed and tend to eat and sleep more meaning they have less time to focus on homework no attending classes. The early, cold and dark mornings during winter make it hard for students to leave their beds. The issue is not waking up, the issue is getting out of the bed. Even though a student might know that they will get into trouble for missing a lesson, they would rather deal with the teacher than go and face the cold especially at 7h45 in the morning. What I am trying to say is, in the winter we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Argument Of The Liar Paradox Liar paradox is a general argument about liars who claim that they are actually lying. For instance, when a person says, whatever I said is not true, it means that the person is lying and is telling an indication that shows he or she is lying. Therefore, a paradox can be termed as an argument with three features including a premise that appears to be the true, a conclusion that appears to be false, and if the statement can be termed as valid. Liar paradoxis also an argument that reaches at the contradiction via reasoning about the sentence with the lie. The classical kinds of sentences are mainly self referential which results to difficulties in the same sentences. For instance, it can be assumed that the liar sentence is M (Houben, 2001). If in any manner M is termed as true, then M is false. Further, an indication of semantic incoherence can be use to describe the liar paradoxincluding 1+2=5 . In addition, many suggestions have been put forward on the way in which liar paradox can be dealt with. However, many of these suggestions fail to provide formal or any detailed theoretical frameworks that can bring its own semantics or syntax with precision. The study of transgenic, or chimeric animals has brought about some serious ethical issues. Many people are only aware of the issues when it regards the humanrace. However, transgenics play much more of a role than just to our society, but greater damage is done to nature s ecosystems. Afghanistan Post Imperialism Borders have always lead to separation, but in the era of New Imperialism European governments began to reconsider division as not merely an effect of borders but a powerful aspect of them. Many imperialist powers used a divide and conquer strategy while creating borders, and GB was certainly no exception. Whether it was intentional or not in the case of Afghanistan, GB divided the Pashtuns, the negative effects of which are still being felt today. In present day Afghanistan, Pashtuns make up 42% of the population, they are the largest ethnic group. Afghanistan remained a weak state from the Soviet Afghan war, which made them susceptible to intervention from the U.S in 2001. Both events, the Soviet invasion and the arrival of American troops, can be traced back to the border. The border led to complex issues which occurred in quick succession, therefore Afghanistan and Pakistan had to pay attention to the issues that were right in front of them, because they were so apparent and pressing. King has become the martyr of the Civil Rights Movement and his legacy has thus overshadowed the legacy of the other activists and groups who helped move the Civil Rights movement forward, including the Student Non Violent Coordinating Committee, an organization created by southern black youth. Though King s actions were powerful tools in the push for racial equality, his efforts were only a part of the overall impetus driving the United States towards equality. The Student Non Violent Coordinating Committee ( SNCC ) led activism in a community based, long term protest fashion. At the same time the Southern Christian Leadership Council ( SCLC ), the group led by Dr. King, used a media powered and more presentation based protest method to rally Americans at the national level. Towards the end of the Civil Rights Movement SNCC became more radical in its approach, eventually leading to its own demise, while the SCLC stayed religiously peaceful. Development of NVWSI for drought monitoring The development of NVWSI was based on the assumption that when there is sufficient vegetation water supply in the soil, there is a normal growth of vegetation. In other words, normal vegetation growth is affected when soil water deficit has happened during a drought period. In case of drought, NDVI value (observed by the satellite sensor) is reduced as vegetation partially closes leaf stomata to reduce leaf surface transpiration in order to save water in the canopy (Placeholder4). During this self protective mechanism the leaf and canopy temperatures (LST) increase. In this modality, the ratio of vegetation index and canopy temperature can show the state of water supply for vegetation, with the greater ratio implying sufficient water supply and vice versa and this approach is widely applied in drought monitoring (Sheng et al. 2003; Zhang et al, 2006; Huang et al. 2008; Gao 2008; Bao 2012). • 49. We Real Cool Gwendolyn Brooks Analysis We Real Cool, by Gwendolyn Brooks is a fervent short poem that tells a story of teenage rebellion. This poem is a formal verse ballad which uses simple sentences that create a steady meter giving the poem a catchy jazz like quality. Although the poem is short, it packs a powerful message about youth. Gwendolyn Brooks centered her works predominately around the African American consciousness. During the 1960 s when the poem was written, many teens especially young African American men felt misunderstood and like the world was set up for them to fail. On the surface, it appears this poem is a mere description of young adults that are misjudged. The deeper message of this poem addresses the dangers of peer pressure, and its detrimental effects to self identity because of the disconnect between society and youth of that time. Peer pressure can take place whenever people gather and spend frequent time together. Most people are subject to its effects and often experience it because of shared experiences or they share the same perspective on life. This becomes dangerous when a group has enough influence to dictate an individual s way of thinking or behavior. When an individual is desperate to find a place to belong, they will follow the crowd even if they know that they are participating in something immoral; this is demonstrated in We Real Cool. As the poem begins, the reader is introduced to the subjects of the poem, The Pool Players. Seven at the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I have personally messaged a professor on Moodle after receiving confusing results on an essay before and received this lack of response. This suggests that these teachers have apathy for their dual enrollment students. This feeling does not do much to motivate students. The problem is rather straightforward, so the solution is as well. The only real way to fix this issue is for dual enrollment professor s to become more involved in their students education. These teachers could post news or announcements around once a week like other teachers already do. They could give attention to students concerns and give informative and timely responses. The second problem to address is retention of the information we are given. I have observed that my classmates find it hard to retain the knowledge we receive from these courses.
