Research Paper On Sir Edward Elgar
Sir Edward Elgar
I am doing my music research paper on Sir Edward Elgar s Pomp and circumstance March number
one. I will be covering a short biography of Edward, genre of the piece, and the overall composition
and why I chose this particular piece of music. Elgar was born on June 2, 1857 at Broad heath, a
village about three miles from the small city of Worcester in the English West Midlands. His father
had a music shop in Worcester and tuned pianos, so Edward was exposed to music at an early age. He
studied the music that was in his father s music shop and began to teach himself a wide variety of
instruments. Elgar is actually known for being a largely self taught composer which is a very
remarkable fact about him. Elgar battled for many years to establish himself as a composer because of
prejudices of religious backgrounds. Elgar was a member of the Roman Catholic Church which was a
minority in a protestant England at the time. Eventually in 1889 he married Caroline Alice Roberts
who was the daughter of Sir Henry Roberts, a general in the British army. March number one, was
composed in 1901 in Queen s Hall London and dedicated to one of Edward s good friends Alfred E.
Rodewald. The first march is the most known of all of the six marches. March number one was
premiered on October 19 of that same year. March number one is the first of five marches by Elgar s
Pomp and Circumstance. In this piece the instruments that are used are two piccolos, two flutes, two
clarinets, two oboes, bass clarinet, two bassoons, contrabassoon, four horns, two cornets, three
trombones, tuba, three timpani percussions, tambourine, two harps, organ, and strings. The tenary
form which is a three part musical form (A B A) contains the famous tune known as Land of Hope and
Glory . In 1902, the tune was re ued for King Edward VII, and then later modified to fit the original
tune. March number one is often known as the graduation march in the United States because it is
played at graduations. March number one first became associated with graduations in 1905, when
Elgar received an honorary doctorate from Yale in 1905. After Yale used this exceptional piece of
music, it soon began to flourish at different universities. March number

Introduction. As A Child, I Always Dreamt Of Joining Law
Introduction As a child, I always dreamt of joining law enforcement. My dad peaked my interest in the
field. Years ago, he was a Correctional officer for the Weld County Sheriff s office; I always admired
him for what he did. I knew right then, that is exactly what I wanted to do. My perception of law
enforcement was based on what I saw on television, from C.S.I to Criminal Minds and Cold Case. I
thought the agencies functioned as a set team. A team who worked together to solve the case. How
they functioned was by having a call; without seconds of delay, they were on the case, then a half hour
later the case was solved. Everyone went home, the end, life moved on. Reality stuck me when I first
started studying law enforcement; I was just a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During my training at the academy, I saw the degree of hatred, madness, cruelty, and indifference that
individuals can harbor towards each other. It also verified the lack of responsibility an individual takes
for such a crime. My belief on an individual s ability to rapidly change their mindset was reassured in
college level courses. This was more so finding the understanding of why a person acts the way that
they do. I was able to get this is in my psychology courses for my minor. These courses helped me to
understand the true meaning of what is cognitively going on in the person s brain that makes them
think and act in a certain way. Psychology, also, helped with the understanding of why there was a
certain type of person that would end up in the system. Judicial processes were another class that was
able to provide a better understanding of how the courts worked in their variety of aspects of law
enforcement. After taking judicial process, I learned the criminal justice system is not a perfect
system. There are many flaws in the system, which are, sadly, unchangeable. As we would all like to
think there is justice for all, with the safeguards to life and liberty, it is not always the case; many
people who are read their Maranda rights, who are supposed to be innocent until

Jerzy Kosinski
Jerzy Kosinski Jerzy Kosinski was born in Poland in 1933 to Russian parents who had fled the
revolution. He was separated from his family when the Nazis invaded in 1939. For six years he
wandered form village to village scorned by East European gypsies who feared his hawk like face and
penetrating eyes. He survived German terror by his wits and he was struck dumb from the shock that
he underwent from this six year period of wandering. He was mute from age nine to fourteen.(New
Yorker) Kosinski was later reunited with his family and by the time he was twenty four, he attained a
professorship at the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw. Soon after Kosinski got his job as a
professor, he went to America. Within four months ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both men were without a traceable past. No one really knows about Kosinski s experiences during the
Second World War or much about any of his pre American life. Many believe that his accounts of his
childhood are untrue and he made them up for entertainment purposes. The same is true with Chance.
Chance is simply a gardener. No one knows where he was born or who his were or anything about
him. Chance himself doesn t even know where he was from. All he remembers is the old man,
working in the garden and watching television. Both Chance and Kosinski lived on a tight rope and
every minute there was the threat of falling. Chance was not even close to the person he was thought
to be. Throughout the whole book the reader is anxious and scared for Chance for there is a fear that at
any minute, someone will find out who chance is and everything will be ruined. Kosinski went
through his whole life with the fear that the reader feels for chance. Starting with Kosinski s
childhood, his life was full of lies. When Kosinski was young, he lied to the Nazis and everyone else
who he encountered. He had to hide his Jewish identity and was always afraid of being exposed.
When he was older, many believe Kosinski plagiarized other s works and required his assistants to
sign false releases for him. He was also a pathological liar. Because of these things, he was at risk of
being exposed just like he had been in his childhood. (JK; pg. 319 329) The

The Despairing Act of Self Harm Essay
Have you ever, coincidentally, walked passed somebody with deep, open cuts on his/her wrist and
wondered what happened? Maybe, you thought it was a simple, harmless scratch caused by obnoxious
pets at home. Or maybe, you considered it as mild accidents, preferably caused by doing arts and
crafts at home or school. But, have you ever pondered thoroughly and have the idea that those sad
scarring were actually made by him/herself? Creating scars on your skin is actually the action of self
harm; the intentional hurting of one s self, direct to the body tissue, with or without the intention of
suicide. There are several types of self harm, such as hair pulling, banging body parts, scratching,
burning, ingestion of toxin, and the most frequent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though, there are several motives of self harm, a person who self harms by any means seeks the same
personal effects: a sense of relief, a diversion from hurtful emotion by expressing it externally, or to
simply sense something when feeling numb and empty. Adolescents and teenagers expects self harm
as an escape, as a way out of struggles. However, self harm bears great consequences to those who
practice it. As a matter of fact, it has never been a solution to complications. The truth is, self harm
only gives temporary satisfaction, and provokes to further misery and discomfort. Self harm brings
several damages; it affects both one s mind and physical features. Damages of self harm involves:
Permanent, painful scars
Inability to bring an end to it or addiction
Feeling useless
Self hatred or low self esteem
Permanent numbness in hand or wrist
Broken bones and bruises
Stress to hide the self injury from others
Anxiety that someone will discover it
Secluded from society
Although there are a number of after effects, the worst that could happen to one s life is death. When a
person became too dependent on self harm, he/she could have the desire to take his/her own life.
Regardless its familiarity in the midst of teenagers today, God has always ruled against self harm.
Believe it or not, self harm has been around for centuries. The false worshippers of Baal in the Old

Suicide Fast Fact
When I was younger, I grew up with four grandparents who I could spend time with. As I started to
grow older, my grandparents started to deteriorate. My grandmother developed Alzheimer s, and more
specifically dementia. I remember one day at my beach house when I was talking to her, she asked me
who I was because she couldn t remember. She didn t remember her own grandson. She started to lose
all her memory and she had difficulty hearing and speaking. It got to a point where there was no way
of communicating with her, and we wondered if she even knew who her own family was. She went
through this deterioration for upwards of 5 years, and I it got to a point where I forgot what she was

One argument is that everyone should be able to choose what they do in life. People argue that they
have the right to die. According to a CNN article, titled Physician Assisted Suicide Fast Fact, one
particular individual decided that death by dignity was the best choice for her and her family. Brittany
Maynard was a 29 year old women who had a brain tumor, and after countless surgeries, the cancer
kept coming back. She decided that, There is no treatment that would save my life, and the
recommended treatments would have destroyed the time I had left (Maynard, 2016). Her and her
family changed locations to Oregon, since it was one of the only states that supported physician
assisted suicide. She was able to live her remaining weeks in peace and not have to worry about
radiation treatments to try and save her. She chose to be able to end her life when she wanted to, and
that was the most peaceful option for her. In opposition to this, there is the argument that when a right
to die law comes in to play, it turns into a duty. This is explained in Paul McHugh s Wall Street
Journal Article, Dr. Death Makes a Comeback; Legalizing Physician Assisted Suicide is Receiving
Fresh Support, but Doctors Should Think Twice Before Signing on, which said, when the state
sponsored health plan in 2008 denied recommended but costly cancer treatments and offered instead
to pay for less expensive suicide drugs (McHugh, 2015). This statement says that in Oregon, a state
sponsored health plan denied costly cancer treatments because they would rather take the cheaper
route and get suicide drugs. This turns the idea that the option of physician assisted suicide is forced.
The option to either take the pill or get treatment is taken away when the treatment is not offered. The
common ground in this example is that it should be

Rhetorical Devices In A More Perfect Union By Barack Obama
In the 2008 United States presidential election between Barack Obama vs John McCain, Obama s
pastor mentioned several controversial and offensive remarks. These statements brought negative
publicity for Obama because of his connection towards Reverend Jeremiah Wright, he was Obama s
aforementioned pastor. With his following severely decreasing because of this, Obama had to find a
way to regain his supporters by writing the powerful speech, A More Perfect Union in which he uses a
variety of rhetorical devices such as parallelism, a paradox, hyperbole, and allusions to the past history
of the United States. The use of these devices in this speech create a strong argument of his intentions
as president, his views on racism and the issues society ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is a vast difference of cultures in American society and schools and Obama s goals with using
parallelism was to touch the hearts of every race with how the public schooling system is failing these
children. We want to talk about the crumbling schools that are stealing the future of black children,
and white children, and Asian children, and Hispanic children, and Native American children. He not
only acknowledges the races of these children but how poor the school system is. The use of
parallelism in this helps create a stronger argument because he shows he s not oblivious to the variety
of cultures in America which feeds into the belief that America is home of the free and accepts anyone
regardless of race, gender, and religious beliefs. Not only does he use parallelism, he also uses a
hyperbole by exaggerating the fact that students futures are being stolen from them with poor
education. This is a hyperbole because the public schooling system isn t actually stealing the futures of
these children, but he uses this rhetorical strategy to amplify the emotion and relevance of the issues
with the public school system. These rhetorical strategies are effective because of the reaction he can
get from the audience. He reminds society of the issues in every day American life, and what he d
wish to do to fix these issues. He wishes to share the same common beliefs and desires of the common
man by focusing on the issues the common man faces day to day. Parallelism and hyperboles are
strong strategies to use because of the realization and emotions it gives the audience. Obama uses
these strategies to bring in the audience and build a strong relationship between him and the audience

Mi Brain Design Techniques
3. Proposed Technique
Intuitively, if we can precisely locate the tumor region in the MRI image and recognize the
corresponding shape as well, then we will obtain a high performance algorithm, also if we can take
only a few features from this region, then we will obtain an algorithm with a low complexity
compared with the previous algorithms. This section describes an overview of all fundamental
processes in our brain diseases classification system. These processes are generally referred to as
image preprocessing, image segmentation, feature extraction and classification respectively see Fig.3.

3.2 Image Segmentation The proposed model performs the segmentation process using clustering
method which is considered an efficient segmentation technique. Clustering is the process of classifies
objects into different groups and classes. In clustering the data is classified according to a common
features shared between the object and the target class. The process of portioning data into a number
of subsets is often referred to as supervised learning or clustering. K means is one of clustering
techniques designed and used in many approaches [4]. K means is generally used to determine the
natural groupings of pixels present in an image. K means is considered to be one of the best
unsupervised clustering and classification techniques, also it s considered a very fast technique
compared with other algorithms. The aim of using K means is to classify each pixel to it s one or more
data classes by calculating the distance between the input pixel with the other pixels in the clustering
window. Fig.5 shows the result of applying the clustering technique on an MRI image containing
tumor and the resulted image showing the image after extracting the tumor region only without any
noise or other regions.
3.3 Feature Extractions
Once we get the tumor region now we can get some features from the segmented image that can help
us in classifying the disease that the MRI image suffers from. The feature extraction process consists
mainly of two stages which are, feature

Glorification In Death Essay
Glorification in Death
The two pieces of art Standard of Ur (c. 2600 B.C.E.) and Sarcophagus of Junius Bassus (c. 359 C.E.),
both by unknown artists, were ceremonious pieces in their time, and captivating works of art in ours.
While the artists are unknown, their work is indicative of the time period in which they lived.
Religious imagery and depiction of stories were subjects many artists pursued, especially in the death
of their leaders. The sarcophagus was made for a member of the senatorial family, Junius Bassus, this
amazing sculpted sarcophagus depicts multiple religious scenes and imagery. The Standard of Ur is

The Standard of Ur is a small trapezoidal box whose two sides and end panels are covered with
figurative and geometric mosaics found in the grave of King Ur Pabilsag. The mosaics on the
Standard depict life in early Mesopotamia, one side dubbed the War Side and the other the Peace Side,
tell stories that read from the bottom to top of the Standard (The Standard of Ur. n.d.). The top register
of mosaics on each side depicts a king, who is exaggerated in size to show the figure in a larger scale
than others. The Standard depicts the two most significant pieces of early Mesopotamian culture: the
warriors who protected the people, secured access to water, natural resources and the King who served
as an intermediary between the people and the gods. This artifact is part of the Early Dynastic Period
which continued many earlier trends with its art marking an emphasis on leaders, gods, and roles of
the people, The Standard of Ur continues this trend with the larger than life depiction of the King and
brings to light a representation of life at the time while at war and

The Issue Of The Civil War
One exception to the rising trend in democracy was Rhode Island. Its policy was that voters had to
own land worth at least $134 or rent for $7 per year. Due to a growing population of wage earners who
did not own property, proponents of democracy organized a People s Convention and drafted a new
constitution. It gave all adult white men the right to vote. When reformers proceeded to ratify their
new constitution and inaugurate Thomas Dorr, Rhode Island s president, John Tyler, called on federal
troops. The movement was unsuccessful and Thomas Dorr ended up spending nearly two years in
prison for committing treason. The Dorr War made it clear how serious it was to exclude any group of
white men from voting. This eventually led to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

that had long wanted to be separated from Massachusetts. (ushistory.org) Lastly, slavery would be

SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF EQUILIBRIUM CONSTANT FOR A
REACTION
ABSTRACT
UV VIS spectrophotometry is one of the most widely used methods for determining and identifying
many inorganic species. During this experiment, this spectrophotometry was used to determine the
equilibrium constant, Keq, of the Fe3+(aq)+SCN (aq)↔ FeSCN2+(aq) reaction. By determining the
amount of light absorbed, the concentration of the colored FeSCN2+ solution was also quantitatively
determined. From that data, the concentrations of the reagents at equilibrium may also be determined.
This experiment should thus provide a Keq value without computing for the concentration of each of
the species in the reaction. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beer s Law states that absorbance is directly proportional to the concentration c of the absorbing
species, and to the path length b of the absorbing medium by a proportionality constant called the
absorptivity a. In our experiment, we expressed the concentration of the absorbing species in terms of
mol/L and the path length in centimetres. Thus, the proportionality constant becomes the molar
absorptivity ε. We set the wavelength of the spectrophotometer to 447 nm so we could achieve
maximum sensitivity. At this point, the change in absorbance per unit of concentration is greatest and
there is greater adherence to Beer s Law.

Facts About Conjunctivitis
According to The Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary Illustrated Manual of Ophthalmology,
conjunctivitis is defined as an infectious or non infectious inflammation of the conjunctiva.
Conjunctivitis is commonly known as pink eye ,it is one of the most common eye infection that is seen
at the eye doctor s offices. At any given week, doctors see approximately three to five patients with
conjunctivitis, the numbers could be more depending on the season. The doctor will be able to
determine whether the conjunctivitis is caused by a virus, bacterium, or allergen, based on patient
history, symptoms, and an extensive eye exam.

Instead, it is the conjunctiva s inflammatory response to allergens including pollen, animal dander, and
other environmental antigens. It s most consistent symptoms are redness and itching. Since allergic
conjunctivitis usually occurs seasonally, just about 10% of individuals seek medical attention, then it
would be safe to say this type of conjunctivitis is greatly underdiagnosed. (Azari and Barney 2013).
Facts about conjunctivitis
Conjunctivitis affects many people and created many financial and social problems. It is estimated that
acute conjunctivitis affect 6 million people annually in the United States. The cost of treating bacterial
conjunctivitis was estimated to $377 million to $857 million per year. (Azari and Barney 2013).
Majority of conjunctivitis patients are treated by their primary care physicians, rather than their eye
care professionals. Studies have shown that approximately 1% of primary care visit are related to
conjunctivitis and 70% of patients with acute conjunctivitis visited an urgent care or primary care.
(Azari and Barney 2013) Conjunctivitis can be divided into infections and non infections causes.
Viruses and bacterial are the most common causes. Non infectious includes allergic, toxic and
inflammation secondary to immune diseases, conjunctivitis can be primary or secondary to systemic
diseases such as gonorrhea, and chlamydia. If you are experiencing any of these signs it is very
important to go to see your eye doctor.(Castro

The Movie Hunger by Steve McQueen
Hunger (2008) Steve McQueen
Film Analysis
Rooted in the 1981 Irish hunger strike, artist Steve McQueen s brutally raw film Hunger retraces the
crusade of Provisional Irish Republican Army prisoners who desired Special Category Status while
imprisoned at Maze Compound Prison. Starting near the middle of a four year long stalemate,
McQueen s triptych follows the routine of a prison guard, Raymond Lohan, the introduction of a new,
IRA, non conforming prisoner Davey Gillen into the dirty protest , and culminates with Bobby Sands,
the IRA commanding officer inside Maze who volunteers to be the first of many prisoners to go on a
hunger strike for SCS, and is the first to die sixty six days later. Through visceral scenes depicting
extraordinary situations, Hunger reminds audiences of the battle of attrition that was fought thirty
years before, and how people dealt with decisions that politicians made, and the environments which
are created from those decisions, which they had to survive in. Instead of taking a side in the conflict,
Hunger portrays what one critic describes a probing, clinical, oddly beautiful examination of one man
s decision to die, to face the moment that we all must, on his own terms.
The standoff in Maze Prison was borne from conflict during The Troubles, an extremely violent period
in the political conflict waged between republicans and nationalists, who wanted to see Northern
Ireland, a province of the United Kingdom, unified with the

The Social Brain Hypothesis is a result of Robin Dunbar; a British Anthropologist, attempting to
explain the evolution of humans socially and its effect on the brain. Professor Dunbar says due to the
high energy usage of the brain, he finds it difficult to justify that humans need larger brains to perform
the same job. Dunbar stated Because the cost of maintaining a large brain is so great, it is intrinsically
unlikely that large brains will evolve merely because they can. Large brains will evolve only when the
selection factor in their favor is sufficient to overcome the steep cost gradient. (Dunbar). Dunbar said
while the change to more energy rich diets are definitely a reason brains increased in size, it does not
explain why the human brain is so much larger than normal. Dunbar says that the complexity of social
environments has an effect on the brain and its evolution, and the part of the brain that enables these
processes is the neocortex, which is the biggest reason for the expansion of the primate brain. Dunbar
believes that changes in certain portions of the brain have a larger effect on size then just the brain
getting bigger by itself This is especially true of the neocortex, for its volume accounts for 50% to
80% of total brain volume in primates. Thus, changes in the volume of the neocortex inevitably have a
large direct effect on apparent change in brain volume that may be quite unrelated to changes in other
brain components. (Dunbar), Dunbar means that the brain isn t getting bigger just to get bigger, but as
certain environmental or in this case; social factors affect certain parts of the brain which in turn cause
it to get bigger. Dunbar says The neocortex is generally regarded as being the seat of those cognitive
processes that we associate with reasoning and consciousness, and therefore may be expected to be
under the most intense selection from the need to

Mahatma Gandhi And Adolf Hitler As A Leader
Two historical leaders
The prominent leader of the Indian Independence against the rule of British rule in India, Mahatma
Gandhi, was born on October 2, 1869 in Porbandar of India. He studied law in London and after
completion of his study; he travelled to South Africa where he practiced as a lawyer advocating for
civil rights against the tyrannical British rule. When he returned back to his country after serving in
South Africa for a few years, he continued his advocacy of civil rights as he wanted to free India from
the British tyranny and promote a feeling of unity among the Indians. While standing against the
British and encouraging as well as attracting the Indians towards his vision, he never took path of
violence, but always believed in the path of non violence and always practiced the same.
Adolf Hitler was born in 1889, who was a dictatorial leader of Germany from 1934 to 1945. He
represented National Socialist German Workers Party commonly known as the Nazi Party. We have
always recognized Hitler as a dictatorial and as inhuman being who took the lives of many people.
But, when we look towards the positive part of his tenure, he made many reformations where he
promoted cleanliness, encouraged no meat consumption and also promoted anti smoking campaign
throughout the country. He also made the concept of euthanasia legal and authorized it for disabled
adults.
The two leaders were completely different from one another. Gandhi was a democratic leader while

First Transcontinental Railroad Essay
The First Transcontinental Railroad was an extremely exciting topic to learn about and it was very
interesting, which is why I chose it as my History Day topic. I chose to portray my project as an
exhibit since I decided that it was only appropriate to show these series of events in a more visual,
direct way. There were other ways I could have created my final project, such as a documentary, skit,
or website; however, I decided that sketching a train and making physical 3D artifacts would be more
visually appealing. The research part of this project was done through Cornell notes, which were
tedious at first, but I realized that it helped a lot when I actually put my project together. I used a
variety of sources, mostly from credible websites. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was time to put all of the research I had done in the form of an exhibit. Before doing the exhibit, I
made a layout of what was most probably going to go on my final poster. Even though I had the
layout, I still encountered some problems. I would have had run into so many more problems if I hadn
t done the layout, so I am glad that I did it. Right before putting my project together, I quickly went to
the store to get the materials like the poster board, glue, clay for the artifacts, etc. Now that I had all
the materials, I was finally set to complete the enormous project. One of the problems I encountered
was that I didn t have enough room on my poster board for everything that I needed. Because of this, I
decided to reprint some of the items, so that I could fit everything. Another problem I ran into was that
I could not fit my title on one page, so I decided to print it on multiple pages and just glue them
together. After I was finished with cutting and pasting, I realized that I did pretty well. I also realized
that after I finished my project that I did not have to color the sketch of a train that I drew because
most of my pictures were black and white anyway. After finishing my poster board, I had to create my
3D artifacts. I decided to make a replica of the locomotive part of the Transcontinental Railroad out of
cardstock, a small part of the railroad tracks out of clay, and a

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Schizophrenia And Illness Anxiety...
I would diagnose Mr Beaver with Schizophrenia and Illness Anxiety Disorder. At first I thought that
Mr Beaver had Somatic Symptom Disorder due to his constant worrying of brain numbness, but as I
looked deeper into his case I believe his symptoms match Illness Anxiety Disorder. I went back and
forth on which disorder he has or if he only had Schizophrenia. As I looked further into Mr Beavers
case I believe he has Schizophrenia and Illness Anxiety Disorder. The symptoms that are present that
support Schizophrenia include delusions, hallucinations, and negative symptoms. Mr Beaver showed
two types of delusions. The first type was Persecution. As he was leaving the doctors he had told other
patients that the doctors are out to get them, by saying not to trust the doctors. He also said that the
doctors must all be working together and that they were told not to tell him what is wrong with him.
Both of these symptoms are part of the Persecution Delusion. Due to this feeling he began to isolate
himself in his room due to the fact that it was a safe place for him. The second delusion is Reference
Delusion. It was mentioned that Justin Beaver felt that the TV was talking to him specifically. Mr
Beaver also showed two symptoms for hallucinations. The first one was Auditory Hallucination.
While listening to the radio, Justin Beaver would softly hear his name being called. As he would go
and check out where his name was being called from he would experience a Olfactory Hallucination.

Two things mainly: blood pressure monitoring, and for patients who need frequent blood draws. Any
patient on more than a small amount of any vasoactive drip really needs to have an a line for proper
BP management if they re sick enough to be put in the unit and need pressors, then they re sick
enough for an a line. Non invasive automatic blood pressure cuffs are useful, but if a person is labile
push for an a line.
Certain situations absolutely require an a line for BP monitoring: any use of any dose of nipride, for

Benefits Of Extracurricular Activities
In high school there are extracurricular activities and clubs that educators and parents feel offer many
benefits to students. In contrary to this I do not believe that the school should make students
participate in afterschool activities against their will. Reasonings for this are: Many students have
work outside of school and have no time, Many students play sports which is already considered an
extracurricular activity, some students will resent extracurricular if they are forced to participate in
them. On the other hand, colleges require a well rounded student who has taken extracurriculars.
One reason that supports my claim is the fact that many high school students already work and they
don t have the time for extracurriculars. According to an article by NewsOK, it states, The U.S.
Census shows that more than 1 in 4 high school students age 16 and older work. This shows us that a
good amount of students are already occupied outside of school by work alone. Meaning that students
who work would not have the time to join extracurriculars and it would be unjust to force a student to
join one. A student who works and has school is already learning very valuable lessons and ideas
about the real world and what it takes to keep and maintain a job and they pick up many skills by
doing this. To force them into extracurriculars to learn lessons and values wouldn t make sense
because they are already learning everything they need to know to keep and maintain a job in the real

since then has become even more strict on the sponsoring and promotion of tobacco brand logos.
Now, all tobacco ads used, dissuade users from consuming. Advertisements in general can be
obnoxious and tiresome, but they are sometimes necessary for the seller to get their point across. Ads
are either trying to get money from the consumer or driving to change a person s mind positively. The
main reasoning for the creation of advertisements is to persuade the viewer or audience through the
evocation of ethos, pathos, and logos, to have a change of mind about the product. The ads I chose are

This ad has an emotional appeal to the audience, as the result of both objects is not something people
really look forward to: death. Of course, nobody wants to die, its only human nature. Looking at this
ad, the viewer might start questioning him or herself emotionally, thinking about the loved ones
around them. In the end it will only hurt the people who care for them. A simple yet powerful logical
appeal towards its audience is accomplished ambiguously or dualistically. I think it questions the
viewer or smoker rationally, why they would want a slow and painful death. The viewer can choose to
die quick or slow , either option, you re going to die so you might as well choose the bullet, a fast and
less painful choice. But that is not what it is suggesting, it seems to be getting at the point that death
by either choice is unnecessary and ignorant of the user.
This type of advertisement is selfless in that it seeks to achieve satisfaction from the possibility of
stopping its intended audience from smoking and nothing more. It even asks at the bottom of the
picture if the individual needs help. Following up with a smokeline expresses concern for the person.
In its design, the layout has a depressing background. This gloomy image is possibly representing
what comes along with each deed. A glowing white font captures the viewer s eyes, but is present to

Essay on Homeschooling
Homeschooling
The definition of homeschooling is to instruct a pupil in an educational program outside of established
schools (www.Dictionary.com).
Homeschooling is a good alternative to public schools because of certain religious issues, standardized
test success, and variety of options for homeschool students, but in some states homeschoolers are
having trouble with the school system.
Homeschooling has been on the rise in the United States and its popularity continues to grow among
American families. According to the U.S Department of Education, in 2003 there were 1.1 million

Some of the problems with public schools are that children who go there with certain beliefs and
customs that they participate in at home that they cannot do at school.
Many citizens in states such as Pennsylvania are having issues with school systems making
regulations on homeschooling that are not allowed (Doherty, Brian). One of the main arguments that
parents are using deals with the Religious Freedom Protection act. This act states that state agencies
may not compel conduct or expression which violates a specific tenet of a person s religious faith. It
also argues that nowhere in religious scripture is authority for education given over to government.
Not only are parents saying that the Bible directly calls them out to educate their own children, but
that it is the choice of the parents. Although there are many people choosing this method of education
because of religious reasons, many parents who are not religious are choosing homeschooling because
of the opportunities it opens up for their children and them. Many parents choose it because they
believe that personal learning will be better for their children and there are so many products on the
market today that it has been simple to be homeschooled (Kiesling, Angie).
Homeschooling is also advantageous to students is because of the variety of options that are available.
One of these options deals with the curriculums that are available. Unlike public schools,

John Piper Analysis
John Piper gives several reasons for why we as Christians believe that the Son became human without
ceasing to be God. The first is brought up in verse 14. It states that the Word dwelt among us. So if the
Word is God, and the Word dwelt among us, the that means Christ was still one hundred percent God
and also man. This is the reason shown in Matthew 1:23 when the angel states that the child born of a
virgin s name will be called Immanuel, which means God with us. When the Word became flesh, it did
not cease to be God, the Son s name means that God his here, dwelling among us. The second reason
is also in verse 14. It states that We have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father. He
goes on to specify what the meaning of as, actually is. Some try to say that as, refers to simply being
like or similar to the Son of the Father. However, when it says as, it is saying that it really is the Son.
What it means for us as Christians that the Word became flesh cannot be simply boiled down to one
single reason. However, it begins with Philippians 2:5 7 when it says, Have this mind among
yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count ...

a major issue in Australian society. It will also compare Australian gambling institutions with other

Gambling can be defined as an activity involving a participant who allows for something of value or

money, cards, casino games, as well as placing bets on sporting events, and purchasing lottery tickets

Problem gambling is not a new issue and has occurred throughout the course of history. Gambling has

Classroom Observation
Properly conducted classroom observation is a powerful tool in the continuing professional
development of teachers. The revised performance management arrangement for teachers, which came
into force on 1 September, 2007, clearly set the expectation that classroom observations are to be
developmental in nature and multi purpose in usage. The Education ( School Teacher Performance
Management) Regulations 2006 state that the total period of classroom observation allowed per
performance management cycle should not exceed three hours and, in many cases, will be less,
depending on individual circumstances. The performance management regulations require that
classroom observation, and the performance management cycle, should ... Show more content on

Classroom Research and Second Language Development: The success of a course of language studies
in a classroomis judged in terms of the product, that is, the learners terminal proficiency. To do this a
number of tests and examinations are available which measure that proficiency. However, the
examinations themselves can never inform us of the role that classroom work played in the scores
obtained. In the classroom interaction occurs interactionn between teachers, learners and materials.
This is the essential element of the classroom. An important step in the classroom is the image that the
observer presents. Sometimes, no doubt, observers are perceived, as Rosen vividly puts it, as sinister
figures in the wings, faintly contemptuous, armed with the paraphernalia of expertise and tapping
ominously their research findings. Such an image would be totally incompatible with ethnographic
research which crucially depends on a relationship of trust. If the classroom ethnographer is regarded
as an evaluator or inspector, the entire enterprise becomes impossible. This is of central importance to
Classroom Research. Neutrality in Classroom Research means studying the interaction as it occurs in
the context, from the perspective of those that are being studied. This can be done through participant
observation or non participant

Examples Of Malvolio In Twelfth Night
Christian Yanes Mrs. Griest Honors English 10 April 13, 2015 MALVOLIO: THE CASE OF A
HOPELESS LOVER I ll be revenged on the whole pack of you (Shakespeare). These are harsh words,
and quite a dramatic way to egress a scene. Nevertheless, this line brings joy as they were indeed the
words of the conceited and hypercritical Malvolio. He had become the biggest joke amidst Maria s
plot in the Twelfth Night, but did he deserve it? Malvolio was no novice in his job, and he executed it
with the utmost strictness. Although, this was partially because he had fallen in love with her. His
loyalty served him well as Olivia s noble, but that did not matter as his unappealing demeanor
continued to ruin his reputation. Therefore, Malvolio was least likely ... Show more content on

Malvolio s self love has filled him with an ambition presumptuous in one of his lowly social position
(Campbell). Author Michael Hays on the other hand explained: He is self centered and, given the
chance, self promoting. He is niggardly in his estimation of those whom he regards as his inferior. He
is brashly moral and bluntly censorious of others regardless of their social standing. He is gratingly
self righteous. And, most annoyingly, he is right most of the time (Hays). Sadly, it seems that though
he may think everyone loves him, it is actually quite the contrary. Maria herself stated, The best
persuaded of himself, so crammed, as he thinks, with excellencies, that it is his ground of faith that all
that look on him love him (Shakespeare). Looks like he would never come to luck with Olivia, or any
woman in Illyria to be exact. Everyone knows that one person who infinitely finds a way to criticize
you for every mistake. In the Twelfth Night, Malvolio is ultimately that guy. He s as condescending as
they come and has no shame of embarrassing anyone. Malvolio had displayed his critical manner
several times to Sir Toby and Sir Andrew. Shakespeare

Homoid Homicide In Honduras
Honduras has a serious amount of homicides occurring in their community. Within their economy,
Honduras is one of the poorest countries, with about 65% of their citizens living in poverty. During his
term, President Zelaya stirred controversy among the country through acts of reforming the
constitution and making unethical policy decisions (U.S. Department of State, 2011). Honduras has
been ranked the most violence country on the globe. This accounts for the one death per hour ratio that
is due to political views of Zelaya, inequality among citizens, and organized crime (B Lajoie, D
Andrea, Rodriquez, Greenough, Patel, 2014). These occurrences of homicide are a critical aspect of
Honduras mental health and well being that desperately needs to be changed for the lives of their
citizens. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Homicide effects individual s daily lives as well as their mental health. The aftermath of death on one
s family and friends can cause serious mental health disorders. For example, post traumatic stress,
anxiety, and inconsistent sleep patterns (Frontières, 2017). When it comes to data collection of
homicide events in Honduras, some information may be inaccurate or incomplete due to the
inconsistency in reports. However, data collected about 9,453 violent deaths were reported in 2013 in
Honduras. Per one hundred thousand people, there was 318.3 homicides among men aged between
twenty to twenty four. Also, among those numbers, 15% of those killed were assaulted, stabbed, or
shot (B Lajoie, D Andrea, Rodriquez, Greenough, Patel, 2014). Through this data, the evidence is
clear that this act of homicide is still a deadly act that needs to be decreased in order to better the lives
of citizens and increasing Honduras s public

What Is Ifemelu Moving Back To America
In Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie s novel Americanah, Is about a woman who is from Nigeria where she
moves to America and decides to move back to Nigeria after many years of being in America. Claim
statement being Ifemelu s move back to Nigeria after many years of experience in America has
changed her cultural identity.
The beginning of the chapter at the moment Ifemelu arrived back in her homeland of America in
Nigeria. At first Lagos assaulted her; the sun dazed haste, the yellow buses full of squashed limbs, the
sweating hikers racing cars, the advertisements on hulking billboards (others scrawled on walls
PLUMBER CALL 080177777) and the heaps of rubbish that rose on the roadsides like a taunt. (475
Adichie). She feels very drawn to America ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She no longer has or wants to ask Ranyinudo for advice in going to the market when she felt super
uncomfortable doing, and she is used to waking up to the sound of the screaming peacocks. The
speedboat was gliding on foaming water, past beaches of ivory sand, and trees bursting, well fed
green. Ifemelu was laughing/ she caught herself in mid laughter, and looked at her present, an orange
life jacket strapped around her, a ship in the graying distance, her friends in their sunglasses, on their
way to Priye s friend s beach house, where they would grill meat and race barefoot. She thought: I m
really home, I m home (506 Adichie) Connecting to the claim, Ifemelu emotional identity sets back to
her past towards her future. Here it states that Ifemelu feels home again, she feels more comfortable
with where she originally is from as in her home country, instead of having an American culture from
America, she starts to actually settle in and enjoy herself again like before she moved from Nigeria to
America. This supports the claim of identity because Ifemelu shifted from being offended when she
came back to Nigeria from America and then she then started to try to get settled in naturally by just
letting the days pass

Ozone Pollution Essay
The Effects of Ozone Pollution
The term ozone has appeared in numerous magazine and newspaper articles and has been a subject of
discussion on both radio and television. Despite all the publicity surrounding this term, however,
many people are still confused by it. The confusion arises from the fact that ozone is both beneficial
and harmful. We know that the ozone layer in the upper atmosphere acts as a filter for the sun s
ultraviolet rays, reducing the amount of radiation that reaches the earth s surface. At ground level,
though, high concentrations of ozone can be harmful.
The Ozone Layer
Ozone gas forms a layer all around the earth high in the stratosphere. It serves as a vital and effective
protective barrier from the sun s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When levels are high, people at risk should take simple precautions:
Stay indoors as much as possible.
Limit outside activities to the early morning hours or after sunset. Ozone levels tend to go down with
the sun.
Refrain from exercising or working vigorously outdoors when levels are high.
Stay away from high traffic areas, and avoid exercising near these areas at all times.
Carpool or use public transportation to help reduce the amount of harmful emissions in the air that
contribute to the production of ozone.
Avoid using gasoline powered lawn equipment or other gasoline powered tools.
Big Differences
The distinction between the two ozone issues — the beneficial ozone layer versus ozone pollution — is
extreme. The ozone layer in the stratosphere needs to be protected. By the same token, ozone
produced by the effects of sunlight on air pollutants must be reduced.
Controlling air pollution will help solve both of these problems, thereby benefiting our health and

Sex Has Been A Physiological Study For Over Multiple...
The studies of sex have been a physiological study for over multiple centuries. Researchers such as
psychologist John Watson, gynecologist Robert Latou Dickinson, and biologist Alfred Kinsey have all
studied areas and/or ideas about sex. One researcher also is known to be a famous author, decided to
also research and find a team of well known researchers to discover the secret to amazing, mind
rippling sex (Roach 298.) Through interviews, traveling, and personal experiments, Mary Roach
found that she believes sex is far more than the sum of its moving parts (Roach 128). Sex is far more
than just the functions of each organ used in intercourse. In the book Bonk, Mary convinces her
husband to partake in a lab research experiment for her to personal experience and understanding of
research tools that were used in the past. After the experience, Mary claims the atmosphere and
emotion of sex resemble nothing of what actually goes on during the time the couple is intimate alone
and at home (Roach 128). The environment in which sex research is being done can help determine
the outcome of the results. For example, the romance and adrenaline produced in the attic of Kinsey
house can be different than romance and adrenaline produced in a lab as well as in the couple s own
house. Where the intimacy is taking place can cause a lack of adrenaline as well as performance.
Emotions and hormones produced during sex changes can impact the results of the experience causing

Summary Of Meet The New Waves
Rebecca McKenney History and Sociology of Rock Music Mrs. Trimble 22 October 2016 Meet the
New Waves In chapter fifteen of Rock Music Styles: A History, author Katherine Charlton discusses
the musical style of new wave. There are many new way groups in the world, but Charlton only
selected some of the most notable groups. Charlton divided these notable groups by American and
British nationalities. In order to give equal attention to both sides, I have chosen four primary artists to
represent new wave. We will begin with the Americans. Devo was created by Bob and Mark
Mothersbaugh, Bob and Jerry Casale, and Allan Alan Meyers, in 1972, according to All Music Guide.
The group first gained national attention in 1975 when they made a short film entitled The Truth
About De Evolution. The band got their name from the idea that instead of evolving mankind has
actually regressed. The group impacted new wave by the use of surreal humor mixed with
commentary on the current human condition and dehumanized electric music. *According to the band
s official website, Rolling Stone Magazine initially called the group fascist. Their most popular hit in
the United States was Whip It , which at its high of popularity reached number fourteen on Billboard s
Hot One Hundred. The Talking Heads was created by David Byrne and Chris Frantz who were joined
by Tina Weymouth in 1975 and Jerry Harrison in 1976. The Talking Heads were influential to new
wave for their overly intellectual

  • 2. Research Paper On Sir Edward Elgar Sir Edward Elgar I am doing my music research paper on Sir Edward Elgar s Pomp and circumstance March number one. I will be covering a short biography of Edward, genre of the piece, and the overall composition and why I chose this particular piece of music. Elgar was born on June 2, 1857 at Broad heath, a village about three miles from the small city of Worcester in the English West Midlands. His father had a music shop in Worcester and tuned pianos, so Edward was exposed to music at an early age. He studied the music that was in his father s music shop and began to teach himself a wide variety of instruments. Elgar is actually known for being a largely self taught composer which is a very remarkable fact about him. Elgar battled for many years to establish himself as a composer because of prejudices of religious backgrounds. Elgar was a member of the Roman Catholic Church which was a minority in a protestant England at the time. Eventually in 1889 he married Caroline Alice Roberts who was the daughter of Sir Henry Roberts, a general in the British army. March number one, was composed in 1901 in Queen s Hall London and dedicated to one of Edward s good friends Alfred E. Rodewald. The first march is the most known of all of the six marches. March number one was premiered on October 19 of that same year. March number one is the first of five marches by Elgar s Pomp and Circumstance. In this piece the instruments that are used are two piccolos, two flutes, two clarinets, two oboes, bass clarinet, two bassoons, contrabassoon, four horns, two cornets, three trombones, tuba, three timpani percussions, tambourine, two harps, organ, and strings. The tenary form which is a three part musical form (A B A) contains the famous tune known as Land of Hope and Glory . In 1902, the tune was re ued for King Edward VII, and then later modified to fit the original tune. March number one is often known as the graduation march in the United States because it is played at graduations. March number one first became associated with graduations in 1905, when Elgar received an honorary doctorate from Yale in 1905. After Yale used this exceptional piece of music, it soon began to flourish at different universities. March number ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Introduction. As A Child, I Always Dreamt Of Joining Law Introduction As a child, I always dreamt of joining law enforcement. My dad peaked my interest in the field. Years ago, he was a Correctional officer for the Weld County Sheriff s office; I always admired him for what he did. I knew right then, that is exactly what I wanted to do. My perception of law enforcement was based on what I saw on television, from C.S.I to Criminal Minds and Cold Case. I thought the agencies functioned as a set team. A team who worked together to solve the case. How they functioned was by having a call; without seconds of delay, they were on the case, then a half hour later the case was solved. Everyone went home, the end, life moved on. Reality stuck me when I first started studying law enforcement; I was just a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During my training at the academy, I saw the degree of hatred, madness, cruelty, and indifference that individuals can harbor towards each other. It also verified the lack of responsibility an individual takes for such a crime. My belief on an individual s ability to rapidly change their mindset was reassured in college level courses. This was more so finding the understanding of why a person acts the way that they do. I was able to get this is in my psychology courses for my minor. These courses helped me to understand the true meaning of what is cognitively going on in the person s brain that makes them think and act in a certain way. Psychology, also, helped with the understanding of why there was a certain type of person that would end up in the system. Judicial processes were another class that was able to provide a better understanding of how the courts worked in their variety of aspects of law enforcement. After taking judicial process, I learned the criminal justice system is not a perfect system. There are many flaws in the system, which are, sadly, unchangeable. As we would all like to think there is justice for all, with the safeguards to life and liberty, it is not always the case; many people who are read their Maranda rights, who are supposed to be innocent until ... • 4. Jerzy Kosinski Jerzy Kosinski Jerzy Kosinski was born in Poland in 1933 to Russian parents who had fled the revolution. He was separated from his family when the Nazis invaded in 1939. For six years he wandered form village to village scorned by East European gypsies who feared his hawk like face and penetrating eyes. He survived German terror by his wits and he was struck dumb from the shock that he underwent from this six year period of wandering. He was mute from age nine to fourteen.(New Yorker) Kosinski was later reunited with his family and by the time he was twenty four, he attained a professorship at the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw. No one knows where he was born or who his were or anything about him. Chance himself doesn t even know where he was from. All he remembers is the old man, working in the garden and watching television. Both Chance and Kosinski lived on a tight rope and every minute there was the threat of falling. Chance was not even close to the person he was thought to be. Throughout the whole book the reader is anxious and scared for Chance for there is a fear that at any minute, someone will find out who chance is and everything will be ruined. Kosinski went through his whole life with the fear that the reader feels for chance. Starting with Kosinski s childhood, his life was full of lies. When Kosinski was young, he lied to the Nazis and everyone else who he encountered. He had to hide his Jewish identity and was always afraid of being exposed. When he was older, many believe Kosinski plagiarized other s works and required his assistants to sign false releases for him. He was also a pathological liar. • 5. The Despairing Act of Self Harm Essay Have you ever, coincidentally, walked passed somebody with deep, open cuts on his/her wrist and wondered what happened? Maybe, you thought it was a simple, harmless scratch caused by obnoxious pets at home. Or maybe, you considered it as mild accidents, preferably caused by doing arts and crafts at home or school. But, have you ever pondered thoroughly and have the idea that those sad scarring were actually made by him/herself? Creating scars on your skin is actually the action of self harm; the intentional hurting of one s self, direct to the body tissue, with or without the intention of suicide. According to a CNN article, titled Physician Assisted Suicide Fast Fact, one particular individual decided that death by dignity was the best choice for her and her family. Brittany Maynard was a 29 year old women who had a brain tumor, and after countless surgeries, the cancer kept coming back. She decided that, There is no treatment that would save my life, and the recommended treatments would have destroyed the time I had left (Maynard, 2016). Her and her family changed locations to Oregon, since it was one of the only states that supported physician assisted suicide. She was able to live her remaining weeks in peace and not have to worry about radiation treatments to try and save her. She chose to be able to end her life when she wanted to, and that was the most peaceful option for her. In opposition to this, there is the argument that when a right to die law comes in to play, it turns into a duty. This is explained in Paul McHugh s Wall Street Journal Article, Dr. Death Makes a Comeback; Legalizing Physician Assisted Suicide is Receiving Fresh Support, but Doctors Should Think Twice Before Signing on, which said, when the state sponsored health plan in 2008 denied recommended but costly cancer treatments and offered instead to pay for less expensive suicide drugs (McHugh, 2015). This statement says that in Oregon, a state sponsored health plan denied costly cancer treatments because they would rather take the cheaper route and get suicide drugs. This turns the idea that the option of physician assisted suicide is forced. The option to either take the pill or get treatment is taken away when the treatment is not offered. These statements brought negative publicity for Obama because of his connection towards Reverend Jeremiah Wright, he was Obama s aforementioned pastor. With his following severely decreasing because of this, Obama had to find a way to regain his supporters by writing the powerful speech, A More Perfect Union in which he uses a variety of rhetorical devices such as parallelism, a paradox, hyperbole, and allusions to the past history of the United States. There is a vast difference of cultures in American society and schools and Obama s goals with using parallelism was to touch the hearts of every race with how the public schooling system is failing these children. We want to talk about the crumbling schools that are stealing the future of black children, and white children, and Asian children, and Hispanic children, and Native American children. He not only acknowledges the races of these children but how poor the school system is. The use of parallelism in this helps create a stronger argument because he shows he s not oblivious to the variety of cultures in America which feeds into the belief that America is home of the free and accepts anyone regardless of race, gender, and religious beliefs. Not only does he use parallelism, he also uses a hyperbole by exaggerating the fact that students futures are being stolen from them with poor education. This is a hyperbole because the public schooling system isn t actually stealing the futures of these children, but he uses this rhetorical strategy to amplify the emotion and relevance of the issues with the public school system. These rhetorical strategies are effective because of the reaction he can get from the audience. He reminds society of the issues in every day American life, and what he d wish to do to fix these issues. He wishes to share the same common beliefs and desires of the common man by focusing on the issues the common man faces day to day. Proposed Technique Intuitively, if we can precisely locate the tumor region in the MRI image and recognize the corresponding shape as well, then we will obtain a high performance algorithm, also if we can take only a few features from this region, then we will obtain an algorithm with a low complexity compared with the previous algorithms. This section describes an overview of all fundamental processes in our brain diseases classification system. Clustering is the process of classifies objects into different groups and classes. In clustering the data is classified according to a common features shared between the object and the target class. The process of portioning data into a number of subsets is often referred to as supervised learning or clustering. K means is one of clustering techniques designed and used in many approaches [4]. K means is generally used to determine the natural groupings of pixels present in an image. K means is considered to be one of the best unsupervised clustering and classification techniques, also it s considered a very fast technique compared with other algorithms. The aim of using K means is to classify each pixel to it s one or more data classes by calculating the distance between the input pixel with the other pixels in the clustering window. Fig.5 shows the result of applying the clustering technique on an MRI image containing tumor and the resulted image showing the image after extracting the tumor region only without any noise or other regions. 3.3 Feature Extractions Once we get the tumor region now we can get some features from the segmented image that can help us in classifying the disease that the MRI image suffers from. DATE PERFORMED: JULY 20, 2007 SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF EQUILIBRIUM CONSTANT FOR A REACTION ABSTRACT UV VIS spectrophotometry is one of the most widely used methods for determining and identifying many inorganic species. During this experiment, this spectrophotometry was used to determine the equilibrium constant, Keq, of the Fe3+(aq)+SCN (aq)↔ FeSCN2+(aq) reaction. By determining the amount of light absorbed, the concentration of the colored FeSCN2+ solution was also quantitatively determined. From that data, the concentrations of the reagents at equilibrium may also be determined. We set the wavelength of the spectrophotometer to 447 nm so we could achieve maximum sensitivity. At this point, the change in absorbance per unit of concentration is greatest and there is greater adherence to Beer s Law. Table I. The Movie Hunger by Steve McQueen Hunger (2008) Steve McQueen Film Analysis Rooted in the 1981 Irish hunger strike, artist Steve McQueen s brutally raw film Hunger retraces the crusade of Provisional Irish Republican Army prisoners who desired Special Category Status while imprisoned at Maze Compound Prison. Starting near the middle of a four year long stalemate, McQueen s triptych follows the routine of a prison guard, Raymond Lohan, the introduction of a new, IRA, non conforming prisoner Davey Gillen into the dirty protest , and culminates with Bobby Sands, the IRA commanding officer inside Maze who volunteers to be the first of many prisoners to go on a hunger strike for SCS, and is the first to die sixty six days later. Through visceral scenes depicting extraordinary situations, Hunger reminds audiences of the battle of attrition that was fought thirty years before, and how people dealt with decisions that politicians made, and the environments which are created from those decisions, which they had to survive in. Instead of taking a side in the conflict, Hunger portrays what one critic describes a probing, clinical, oddly beautiful examination of one man s decision to die, to face the moment that we all must, on his own terms. The Social Brain Hypothesis is a result of Robin Dunbar; a British Anthropologist, attempting to explain the evolution of humans socially and its effect on the brain. Professor Dunbar says due to the high energy usage of the brain, he finds it difficult to justify that humans need larger brains to perform the same job. Dunbar stated Because the cost of maintaining a large brain is so great, it is intrinsically unlikely that large brains will evolve merely because they can. Large brains will evolve only when the selection factor in their favor is sufficient to overcome the steep cost gradient. (Dunbar). Dunbar said while the change to more energy rich diets are definitely a reason brains increased in size, it does not explain why the human brain is so much larger than normal. Dunbar says that the complexity of social environments has an effect on the brain and its evolution, and the part of the brain that enables these processes is the neocortex, which is the biggest reason for the expansion of the primate brain. Dunbar believes that changes in certain portions of the brain have a larger effect on size then just the brain getting bigger by itself This is especially true of the neocortex, for its volume accounts for 50% to 80% of total brain volume in primates. Thus, changes in the volume of the neocortex inevitably have a large direct effect on apparent change in brain volume that may be quite unrelated to changes in other brain components. (Dunbar), Dunbar means that the brain isn t getting bigger just to get bigger, but as certain environmental or in this case; social factors affect certain parts of the brain which in turn cause it to get bigger. Dunbar says The neocortex is generally regarded as being the seat of those cognitive processes that we associate with reasoning and consciousness, and therefore may be expected to be under the most intense selection from the need to ... At first I thought that Mr Beaver had Somatic Symptom Disorder due to his constant worrying of brain numbness, but as I looked deeper into his case I believe his symptoms match Illness Anxiety Disorder. I went back and forth on which disorder he has or if he only had Schizophrenia. As I looked further into Mr Beavers case I believe he has Schizophrenia and Illness Anxiety Disorder. The symptoms that are present that support Schizophrenia include delusions, hallucinations, and negative symptoms. Mr Beaver showed two types of delusions. The first type was Persecution. As he was leaving the doctors he had told other patients that the doctors are out to get them, by saying not to trust the doctors. He also said that the doctors must all be working together and that they were told not to tell him what is wrong with him. Both of these symptoms are part of the Persecution Delusion. Due to this feeling he began to isolate himself in his room due to the fact that it was a safe place for him. The second delusion is Reference Delusion. It was mentioned that Justin Beaver felt that the TV was talking to him specifically. Mr Beaver also showed two symptoms for hallucinations. The first one was Auditory Hallucination. In contrary to this I do not believe that the school should make students participate in afterschool activities against their will. Reasonings for this are: Many students have work outside of school and have no time, Many students play sports which is already considered an extracurricular activity, some students will resent extracurricular if they are forced to participate in them. On the other hand, colleges require a well rounded student who has taken extracurriculars. One reason that supports my claim is the fact that many high school students already work and they don t have the time for extracurriculars. This shows us that a good amount of students are already occupied outside of school by work alone. One of the main arguments that parents are using deals with the Religious Freedom Protection act. This act states that state agencies may not compel conduct or expression which violates a specific tenet of a person s religious faith. It also argues that nowhere in religious scripture is authority for education given over to government. • 34. John Piper Analysis John Piper gives several reasons for why we as Christians believe that the Son became human without ceasing to be God. The first is brought up in verse 14. It states that the Word dwelt among us. So if the Word is God, and the Word dwelt among us, the that means Christ was still one hundred percent God and also man. This is the reason shown in Matthew 1:23 when the angel states that the child born of a virgin s name will be called Immanuel, which means God with us. When the Word became flesh, it did not cease to be God, the Son s name means that God his here, dwelling among us. The second reason is also in verse 14. It states that We have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father. He goes on to specify what the meaning of as, actually is. Some try to say that as, refers to simply being like or similar to the Son of the Father. However, when it says as, it is saying that it really is the Son. What it means for us as Christians that the Word became flesh cannot be simply boiled down to one single reason. However, it begins with Philippians 2:5 7 when it says, Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count ... The revised performance management arrangement for teachers, which came into force on 1 September, 2007, clearly set the expectation that classroom observations are to be developmental in nature and multi purpose in usage. The Education ( School Teacher Performance Management) Regulations 2006 state that the total period of classroom observation allowed per performance management cycle should not exceed three hours and, in many cases, will be less, depending on individual circumstances. Classroom Research and Second Language Development: The success of a course of language studies in a classroomis judged in terms of the product, that is, the learners terminal proficiency. To do this a number of tests and examinations are available which measure that proficiency. However, the examinations themselves can never inform us of the role that classroom work played in the scores obtained. In the classroom interaction occurs interactionn between teachers, learners and materials. This is the essential element of the classroom. An important step in the classroom is the image that the observer presents. Sometimes, no doubt, observers are perceived, as Rosen vividly puts it, as sinister figures in the wings, faintly contemptuous, armed with the paraphernalia of expertise and tapping ominously their research findings. Such an image would be totally incompatible with ethnographic research which crucially depends on a relationship of trust. If the classroom ethnographer is regarded as an evaluator or inspector, the entire enterprise becomes impossible. This is of central importance to Classroom Research. Neutrality in Classroom Research means studying the interaction as it occurs in the context, from the perspective of those that are being studied. This can be done through participant observation or non participant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Examples Of Malvolio In Twelfth Night Christian Yanes Mrs. Griest Honors English 10 April 13, 2015 MALVOLIO: THE CASE OF A HOPELESS LOVER I ll be revenged on the whole pack of you (Shakespeare). These are harsh words, and quite a dramatic way to egress a scene. Nevertheless, this line brings joy as they were indeed the words of the conceited and hypercritical Malvolio. He had become the biggest joke amidst Maria s plot in the Twelfth Night, but did he deserve it? Malvolio was no novice in his job, and he executed it with the utmost strictness. Although, this was partially because he had fallen in love with her. His loyalty served him well as Olivia s noble, but that did not matter as his unappealing demeanor continued to ruin his reputation. Therefore, Malvolio was least likely ... Author Michael Hays on the other hand explained: He is self centered and, given the chance, self promoting. He is niggardly in his estimation of those whom he regards as his inferior. He is brashly moral and bluntly censorious of others regardless of their social standing. He is gratingly self righteous. And, most annoyingly, he is right most of the time (Hays). Sadly, it seems that though he may think everyone loves him, it is actually quite the contrary. Maria herself stated, The best persuaded of himself, so crammed, as he thinks, with excellencies, that it is his ground of faith that all that look on him love him (Shakespeare). Looks like he would never come to luck with Olivia, or any woman in Illyria to be exact. Everyone knows that one person who infinitely finds a way to criticize you for every mistake. In the Twelfth Night, Malvolio is ultimately that guy. He s as condescending as they come and has no shame of embarrassing anyone. The beginning of the chapter at the moment Ifemelu arrived back in her homeland of America in Nigeria. At first Lagos assaulted her; the sun dazed haste, the yellow buses full of squashed limbs, the sweating hikers racing cars, the advertisements on hulking billboards (others scrawled on walls PLUMBER CALL 080177777) and the heaps of rubbish that rose on the roadsides like a taunt. Ifemelu was laughing/ she caught herself in mid laughter, and looked at her present, an orange life jacket strapped around her, a ship in the graying distance, her friends in their sunglasses, on their way to Priye s friend s beach house, where they would grill meat and race barefoot. She thought: I m really home, I m home (506 Adichie) Connecting to the claim, Ifemelu emotional identity sets back to her past towards her future. Here it states that Ifemelu feels home again, she feels more comfortable with where she originally is from as in her home country, instead of having an American culture from America, she starts to actually settle in and enjoy herself again like before she moved from Nigeria to America. This supports the claim of identity because Ifemelu shifted from being offended when she came back to Nigeria from America and then she then started to try to get settled in naturally by just letting the days pass ... • 42. Ozone Pollution Essay The Effects of Ozone Pollution The term ozone has appeared in numerous magazine and newspaper articles and has been a subject of discussion on both radio and television. Despite all the publicity surrounding this term, however, many people are still confused by it. The confusion arises from the fact that ozone is both beneficial and harmful. We know that the ozone layer in the upper atmosphere acts as a filter for the sun s ultraviolet rays, reducing the amount of radiation that reaches the earth s surface. At ground level, though, high concentrations of ozone can be harmful. The Ozone Layer Ozone gas forms a layer all around the earth high in the stratosphere. Carpool or use public transportation to help reduce the amount of harmful emissions in the air that contribute to the production of ozone. Avoid using gasoline powered lawn equipment or other gasoline powered tools. • 43. Sex Has Been A Physiological Study For Over Multiple... The studies of sex have been a physiological study for over multiple centuries. Researchers such as psychologist John Watson, gynecologist Robert Latou Dickinson, and biologist Alfred Kinsey have all studied areas and/or ideas about sex. One researcher also is known to be a famous author, decided to also research and find a team of well known researchers to discover the secret to amazing, mind rippling sex (Roach 298.) Through interviews, traveling, and personal experiments, Mary Roach found that she believes sex is far more than the sum of its moving parts (Roach 128). Sex is far more than just the functions of each organ used in intercourse. In the book Bonk, Mary convinces her husband to partake in a lab research experiment for her to personal experience and understanding of research tools that were used in the past. After the experience, Mary claims the atmosphere and emotion of sex resemble nothing of what actually goes on during the time the couple is intimate alone and at home (Roach 128). The environment in which sex research is being done can help determine the outcome of the results. For example, the romance and adrenaline produced in the attic of Kinsey house can be different than romance and adrenaline produced in a lab as well as in the couple s own house. Where the intimacy is taking place can cause a lack of adrenaline as well as performance. Emotions and hormones produced during sex changes can impact the results of the experience causing unreliable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Summary Of Meet The New Waves Rebecca McKenney History and Sociology of Rock Music Mrs. Trimble 22 October 2016 Meet the New Waves In chapter fifteen of Rock Music Styles: A History, author Katherine Charlton discusses the musical style of new wave. There are many new way groups in the world, but Charlton only selected some of the most notable groups. Charlton divided these notable groups by American and British nationalities. In order to give equal attention to both sides, I have chosen four primary artists to represent new wave. We will begin with the Americans. Devo was created by Bob and Mark Mothersbaugh, Bob and Jerry Casale, and Allan Alan Meyers, in 1972, according to All Music Guide. The group first gained national attention in 1975 when they made a short film entitled The Truth About De Evolution. The band got their name from the idea that instead of evolving mankind has actually regressed. The group impacted new wave by the use of surreal humor mixed with commentary on the current human condition and dehumanized electric music. *According to the band s official website, Rolling Stone Magazine initially called the group fascist. Their most popular hit in the United States was Whip It , which at its high of popularity reached number fourteen on Billboard s Hot One Hundred. The Talking Heads was created by David Byrne and Chris Frantz who were joined by Tina Weymouth in 1975 and Jerry Harrison in 1976.
