Difference Between Fixed And Fixed Cost
Fixed Cost:
Fixed cost as the name suggests implies any cost that remains fixed or does not change due to an
increase or decrease in the amount of services or goods produced. It is a periodic cost that remains
unchanged irrespective of the sales revenue or output, such as depreciation, insurance, wages, salaries,
etc.
The concept of fixed cost is used in short term accounting.
Fixed costs are those expenses that are necessary to be paid by a company, independent of any
business activity that is does. It is one of the two components of the total cost of a good or service,
along with variable cost. Fixed costs are not fixed permanently; they change over time, but they are
fixed in relation to the overall production quantity for the relevant period. For example, a company
may be having unexpected expenses not related to production; and warehouse costs and costs like that
are fixed only over the time period of the lease. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Suppose a company has to pay $10,000 each month if it wants to cover the cost of the lease but it is
not able to manufacture anything during the month, the lease payment still remains due in full.
In economics, if a business wants to achieve economies of scale, it must produce enough goods to
spread fixed costs. For example, the $100,000 lease spread out over 100,000 widgets implies that each
widget carries $1 in fixed costs. If the company produces 200,000 widgets, the fixed cost per unit
would drop to 50 cents.
Why it Matters:
If a company has large amount of fixed costs, it has less predictable per unit profit margins than a
company having relatively large amount of variable

Role Of The Dutch Colonial Rule
In this write up I will argue that despite factors such as different identities, the largely prevalent
separatist conflicts in Indonesia are mainly based on resources. I will attempt to demonstrate that
identity was instrumentalized in the colonial times to gain political and economic control, and that
spilled over to an internal colonialism in Indonesia in contemporary times. This created the foundation
for the Central government to instrumentalize constructed identities to gain economic control over the
resource rich minority islands, which led to violent separatist conflicts throughout the archipelago. To
begin with we can examine the role of the Dutch colonial rule in the Dutch East Indies and how they
laid the foundation for instrumentalist manipulation. With 13,466 islands, 360 ethnic groups and 719
languages the Dutch were extremely aware of the diversity that prevailed in this region (The
Economist, 2014). These various ethnicities and communities lived in peace prior to the Dutch role.
However upon the exit of the Dutch, this peace was shattered. The main purpose of exerting control
over Indonesia can best be explained by Immanuel Wallersteins world systems theory. It characterizes
the world system as a set of mechanisms, which redistributes surplus value from the periphery to the
core (Barfield, 1997). In the capitalist world system, the West makes up the core , while the regions of
Aceh and West Papua make up the periphery . In these regions

The Long Brush Analysis
The Long Crush is an essay about the game of disc golf. The writer started the essay by pointing out
the differences between the games of disc golf, Frisbee golf, and ultimate Frisbee. He writes about
how a Frisbee is only capable of doing small amounts of damage when a golf disc could, in his
opinion, kill someone. The writer then talks about how the game can be played anywhere at any time.
After talking about what conditions he plays in, and how well he can throw the disc, he then talks
about how, in comparison to other sports, disc golf is easier to understand and is not as expensive. The
writer then gets in depth about how the game brings out a geekish side of him that causes him to buy
several related items for his profession.

Moxey And Cosgrove Analysis
Within his book Visual Time, which offers an unorthodox approach to the study of art history, Moxey
writes: The history of art faces the disconcerting possibility that the time it imagines, history s very
architecture, is neither uniform nor linear but rather multivalent and discontinuous (Moxey 1) . Indeed,
though time within the practice of art history may in actuality be anachronic, or without a distinct
order, it is not regarded as so at Wellesley s Davis Museum; here, the architecture of time is as linear
as the physical architecture of the museum s modern exterior. The physical and representational
mapping of the Davis use of chronological time is especially present by floor layout. The permanent
collections are on the second, fourth, and fifth levels. Segmented by geography, which both Moxey
and Cosgrove discuss, the second floor s collection of art and artifacts dates as far back as 2000 BCE
and encompasses six of the world s seven continents. It is important to note that the stairs are set at the
heart of the museum, allowing museum goers to approach a floor s collection from four different
starting points. Though probably not intentional, this somewhat equalizes the collections featured on
the second floor. Each geographic location are quartered off into makeshift galleries with the two
largest being the African and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

does this, as some of the medieval pillars are the victim of spolia, and are in fact roman pillars with

Lao-Tzu And Climate Change
Lao tzu believes that the world cannot be improved. This is because the world is a sacred place. That it
cannot be changed because if we try to, the world would be ruined. Today we are facing the idea of
Climate change. Much of the world cannot decide it this phenomenon is because of natural causes or
if it is because of us and the way we live. When the earth was first came to existence there were no car
burning fossil fuels, and there were no factories releasing pollution into the air. Lao tzu might argue
that since we are doing all of these things, we are ruining the Earth, because the Earth was not made to
be harmed in the way we may be harming it. Lao tzu says that if we treat the world like an object, we
will lose it. MAny objects can

Question1
The achievement motive emphasized the notion that links the personality traits and social background
check of a person with his or her level of need for achievement. David McClelland stressed that the
need for achievement is an apparent human motive that can be distinguished from other needs. He
believed that the achievement motivated people, do not turn down rewards but the rewards are not
important as the accomplishment itself (Bernstein, 2006).
Motivation is based on the individual s emotions and the achievement related goals. The achievement
motivation is aimed at attaining success and achieving all of our ambitions in life. As a result of this
the achievement goals can influence our natural behaviour (Rochester Institute, 2005).
Situational factors also affect achievement behaviour. The search for achievement is likely to increase
when the possibility of success and the incentive value of success are high (Rochester Institute, 2005).
This can be attributed to the following reasons:
a) As duties get easier, success becomes more fulfilling and as tasks get harder success becomes less
fulfilling.
b) Reasonably challenging tasks seem to offer the best overall worth in terms of maximizing the
person s sense of accomplishment.
c) People differing in their desires to avoid failure, emphasizes that emotion and motivation are
interweaved.

The Discovery Of Penicillin During World War II
In 1928, after the careless mistake of forgetting to clean his dishes, Alexander Fleming discovered
penicillin. The scientific community still celebrates his discovery since it was a major breakthrough in
science, especially in the antibiotics and fermentation field. Although his discovery changed various
scientific fields and it opened the doors for research in areas not studied or considered relevant before,
the actual usefulness of penicillin was truly reached until the large scale production of penicillin was
achieved. Before its manufacturing penicillin was considered for researching purposes, but after its
manufacturing during World War II, it truly became helpful for humanity because it could finally start
performing within its antibiotic spectrum. Although it is true that the discovery of penicillin was
attributed to Alexander Fleming, the response of the rest of the scientific community was crucial in
order to achieve the large scale production of penicillin. After the incalculable loss of life during
World War II, the scientific community was urged to unite and work together for the development of
the large scale production of penicillin. Faced with the challenge of producing a sufficient amount of
penicillin in order to start shipping it as an antibiotic, scientists from all over the world started
working on feasible fermentation methods to make their set goal a reality. The first attempt started
with Norman Heatley, an Oxford biochemist.
Heatley believed that

Professionalism Essay
For this paper I will be talking about Professionalism. I chose to write about this topic because after
talking about this in class. There are certain qualities to professionalism you must learn which is
having great Appearance, Demeanor, Reliability, Competence, Ethics, Maintaining Your Temper,
Accountability and Phone Etiquette. So I bet your wondering what is professionalism according to
(Merriam) and (Porcupile) Professionalism is the conduct, aims, or qualities that characterize or mark
a profession or a professional person. I was actually unaware of how much the word professionalism
really played a part of your daily life. Professionalism plays a part in the way you appear to others the
way that you communicate as well as your work ethics. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before starting this Introduction to Healthcare this quarter I actually thought professionalism was only
about how you dressed yourself, but now I know that your attitude and the way that you conduct
yourself plays an important part in professionalism as well. How you present your work is also a part
of professionalism.
What I feel about professionalism is it plays a big part in your everyday life because it can have an
impact your day to day interactions with any and every one. It could place you in a category rather the
person verbalize that to you or not it plays a part. The people you attract to yourself and the jobs that
you may be eligible for depending on the way you conduct yourself. Which may not seem big but it is
a huge deal.
Professionalism will be used in my career on a daily basis. I would have to come to work prepared and
on time. I have to come to work dressed like I am ready to work in the field that I m currently in or
want to be in by wearing scrubs and the proper shoes with safety in mind. It will also be used when
talking to Doctors, coworkers, patients and their families. Sometimes I would have to place the
integrity of the profession and the interests of residents, clients, visitors and coworkers above those of
my own interests. I would have to communicate with insurance companies at times so it is a very good
idea for me to perfect

The MMR (Measles, Mumps And Rubella) Vaccine
Vaccines do not cause autism, it is as simple as that. Autism is a genetic disorder caused by problems
with the wiring of the brain and getting a shot of a weakened, nearly dead virus in saline is not going
to cause your brain to rewire itself. Likewise, abstaining from receiving vaccinations or worse yet, not
getting your children vaccinated, is putting not only them at risk, but the health of the entire western
world. In 1998, a British gastroenterologist named Andrew Wakefield published a research paper in
the medical journal The Lancet that showed a link between the MMR (measles, mumps and rubella)
vaccine and the emergence of autism spectrum disorders. This research paper has been proven to be
fraudulent, and even the author himself has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jenner engineered the first ever vaccine, which protected against the deadly smallpox virus using the
similar cowpox virus, after noticing that milkmaids who had caught cowpox did not get smallpox later
on. In fact, the word vaccine actually comes from the Latin variolae vaccinae, which translates to
smallpox of the cow. Before Jenner created his vaccine, however, smallpox was considered to be the
most deadly virus on the planet, killing over 300 million people worldwide in the twentieth century
alone. It was especially virulent in infants and children, and when it swept through a village, from
twenty to fifty percent of those infected died as a consequence, said Kendall A. Smith in his essay,
Edward Jenner and the Small Pox Vaccine, Moreover, those who survived were often disfigured from
pockmarks, and smallpox led to blindness when it spread to the eyes (Smith 1). However, the vaccines
Jenner produced slowly grew more and more widely used and more advanced, and in 1979, the virus
was declared eradicated. Now, that does not necessarily mean that it is completely gone, as samples
have been found in ancient books and other artifacts, but no cases of a human infected with smallpox
have been reported since 1978. A similar thing happened later with poliomyelitis, better known simply
as polio. This virus was so prominent in the 1920s and 1930s that even President Roosevelt had it.
However in 1955, a vaccine was developed by Jonas Salk in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. If all goes well,
the virus will be eradicated by the year 2018. Because of the creation of vaccines, diseases that shook
the world years and years ago are no longer even a threat to society anymore. We have lived so long
without vaccines even being a problem outside of slight controversy, and they have even gotten more
advanced and safer as society progresses, so there should be no outcry

OPERATION ANACONDA: JOINT OPERATION PLANNING ERRORS
Joint Operations After the September 11, 2001, terrorist attack on the Twin Towers, the United States
(US) declared a global war on terrorism. Afghanistan was the first battleground with Operation
ENDURING FREEDOM; US forces engaged enemy combatants in effort to deter, isolate and destroy,
terrorist networks. In the early stages, unified land operations consisted mostly of special operation
forces (SOF) with support of the US Airforce, US Navy, allies and Afghan Security Forces (ASF).
This early collation was a joint effort that proved successful during the early phases of the operation.
Engagement of enemy forces successfully deterred their operational capabilities and efforts that
pushed enemy forces into Shahi Kot Valley. This concentration of enemy forces in Shahi Kot Valley
fostered the development of Operation ANACONDA, a joint, interagency, intergovernmental,
multinational (JIIM) operation. The joint operations planning process (JOPP), employed during the
operational design failed to achieve the desired combat power necessary for successful shaping
operations and decisive action.
Challenges Gathering Accurate Intelligence The Combined Joint Task Force (CJTF) Mountain (10th
Mountain Division), was assigned command and control (C2) of Operation Anaconda. In early 2002,

Flaws In The Odyssey
A hero is someone who has given him or her life to something bigger than oneself. (Joseph Campbell)
The Odyssey is an Epic about a greek hero named Odysseus. He s escaping from the Trojan War and
he s trying to return to his family safely. During his journey he meets many complications and
obstacles that stop him from returning home. An example of a creature Odysseus faced was the
Cyclops. The Cyclops was a one eyed creatures that lived in a cave and Odysseus went into a feud
with a Cyclops named Polyphemus, he was Poseidon s son. During these conflicts Odysseus doesn t

These people believe that Odysseus was a strong leader, he s brave, and he s loyal to his family. They
are wrong for viewing Odysseus as a hero, and here s why. First of all, a strong leader wouldn t treat
his shipmates like slaves, instead he would listen to their desires and try to put them in action.
Odysseus was a brave hero for facing the monsters and for defending his shipmates, but he had to
show mercy to the opposing side. During the journey, Odysseus was very violent and he always
assumed that everyone is trying to murder him, so he attacked anyone and anything that opposed his
ideas or actions. Lastly, a good hero wouldn t hide the truth about his shipmates deaths. In addition, a
hero wouldn t betray his shipmates and leave them to run into their own deaths just to see his family.
This was when Odysseus went to the blind prophet and she said that the ship and crew will get
destroyed and he ll return safely, he still continued his journey with no doubt. Some people might that
it s a sign of loyalty, but it s not because he s taking away lives to return home. These were all true and
valid traits of Odysseus, but they all have deep and bad meanings behind

Ghandi and His Fight Agains Discrimination in South Africa...
Gandhi is considered by many around the world as the father of the Indian independence movement.
Gandhi spent over 20 years in South Africa working to fight discrimination. It was in South Africa that
he developed his concept of Satyagraha, a non violent way of protesting against discrimination. The
first time Gandhi used Satyagraha was in South Africa beginning in 1907 when he organized
opposition to the Black Act. In 1907, the Black Act was passed, requiring all Indians to keep
registration documents on them at all times. Gandhi s first hand experiences in dealing with
discrimination began in South Africa. In Chapter VII Some Experiences, Gandhi recalls on his first

You must leave this compartment, or else I shall have to call a police constable to push you out. Yes,

This incident began his life long battle against all discriminations. Although he debated returning to
India, his duty came first. It would be cowardice to run back to India without fulfilling my obligation.
The hardship to which I was subjected was superficial only a symptom of the deep disease of colour
prejudice. I should try, if possible, to root out the disease and suffer hardships in the process. Redress
for wrongs I should seek only to the extent that would be necessary for the removal of the colour
prejudice. Gandhi also faced the same discrimination on a coach from Johannesburg to Charlestown,
and learned the racial condescension of the racial slur coolie. A coolie is a historical term for manual
labourers and a racial slur. The term was used in America towards the Chinese workers that built the
railroad during the 19th and early 20th century and toward the Indians indentured laborers. On the
coach, a white passenger did not want a coolie sitting inside with the other whites. Instead, he insisted
that Gandhi sit on the floor at his feet on a sack. When Gandhi refused, the man physically assaulted

The Importance Of School Sports In High School
In high school, there are many opportunities to become involved in activities throughout the school
year. Whether it s a club such as Chess Club or a sport in which athletes can compete, students have
numerous opportunities to get involved. These opportunities help prepare students for life by teaching
them important lessons. Although clubs can teach students some major life skills, they do not teach the
students as much as a student actively involved in high school sports. High school athletics teach
students valuable life lessons, they teach students how to manage what is important in their life, and
they teach students to remain physically active throughout life. High school sports are an important
key to teens becoming successful in life and should not be taken for granted.
To start off, high school athletics teach students valuable life lessons. In sports, to become not only an
excellent athlete, but a great team as well, athletes need to work hard. Whether it is by practicing or
training to become better in the weight room, athletes know it takes hard work to acquire their goals.
For anything to become its best, it takes hard work and dedication. This is also true in life. Whether it
is for work or just tending to a garden, it takes hard work to get where you want to go or be where you
want to be. This is a very important life lesson that can and should be used throughout a person s life.
Another important lesson learned through high school athletics is to never give

Everyday Use By Alice Walker Analysis
There is something oddly familiar and comforting in the short story Everyday Use by Alice Walker.
Perhaps it is the sweet drawl of southern charm that holds readers attention or maybe it is the way
Walker redefines an insecure character, and transforms them into a character whose inner persona
mirrors that of their own outer strength; nothing reads truer than the character of Mama. Mama
describes herself as a bigger woman, who wears overalls, has calloused hands, and is not afraid to get
them dirty. Mama is hardy and unwavering, she is the very essence of a hard worker. Mama takes
pride in the fact that she can work just as hard as any man and still managed to raise two daughters.
Mama even brags about her masculine strengths and accomplishments when she disclosed, I can work
outside all day, breaking ice to get water for washing; I can eat pork liver cooked over the open fire
minutes after it comes steaming from the hog. One winter I knocked a bull calf straight in the brain
between the eyes with a sledge hammer and had the meat hung up to chill before nightfall (Walker).
Mama has the physical attributes even a man would be envious of. However, despite all Mamas
physical strengths she has never had the courage to hold her own; not even with her daughter. From
the very beginning Mama showed her insecurities and passive tone as she tried relentlessly to sweep
away debris from the yard in an effort to please her oldest daughter Dee. Mamma even fantasize

Rfid Technology Advancements And Technology
RFID technology advancements and the advantages of using this technology in the traffic
management
Venkatesh Pothugunta vepothug@iupui.edu Abstract:
Recently, the RFID technology has evolved and is practically being used in many industries. This
technology has already been widely used in America, Asia and other parts of the world. This paper
mainly discusses the RFID applications in the traffic management, various other road related issues.
The implementations of RFID technology has reduced fatality rates and also help us monitor traffic,
parking and speed violations across the country. This monitoring of the traffic is commonly called as
intelligent transportation systems (ITS).
It is possible to operate parking areas without manpower by using RFID technologies. Check ins and
check outs will be handled by this technology which will avoid traffic jams at the parking areas. By
using this technology drivers need not to be stop at the entrance of the parking and owners will not
have make any payments at the parking lots since all payments will be done online. We can determine
whether the vehicle is over speed by accessing the vehicle speed in freeway using RFID technology.
Section1: Introduction
1. The main problem that all the countries face is monitoring large amounts of traffic and keeping a
track of the traffic. This is called as the people based transportation model.
2. Often there is no record of the speed of the vehicles and also keeping a track of the vehicles

Brief History of the Domestication of Cats and Dogs
You can find at least one cat or dog in almost every home in America. In fact, approximately 67
million households have pets and there are 164 million owned pets in the U.S. (U.S. Pet Ownership).
But, do we know where our beloved pets came from? Many know that the dog descended from wolves
and the cat descended from some larger wild cat but it is a little more complicated than that.
So just what country did cats originate from? Researchers found that cats have been involved with
humans for about 4,000 years. They also found a feline that roamed Eurasia and Africa more than 34
million years ago! That s a long time! This early cat weighed about twenty pounds and was the size of
the bobcats we see today. It was called the Proailurus, which means early cat (Cat History). The NC
Museum of Natural Scientists states that cats came to North America with Colonial settlers in the 1700
s. Humans have helped spread them throughout the world by keeping them as companions (Pushy
Plants).
Unlike dogs, cats are said to have domesticated themselves. When humans started settling North
America and farming land, cats came in and protected the crops from rodents. The humans saw that
they were good so they fed and protected the cats (Carver). The humans also began to store crops,
such as grain, and with storage, came rats. The cats were delighted by the great amounts of prey and
the people appreciated cats even more (Zax).
The earliest breed of cats in Europe was the Angora. Scientists

Rolling Stone Report
Was something communicated that could be deemed defamatory? The most likely jurisdiction as per
the Virginia law that would warrant the filing of such a suit is as follows (Loftis, 2015):
A statement is defamatory if it imputes a commission of a crime of the moral turpitude for which one

● Rawdha soils: these soils have a small amount of organic matter, low water retention properties and
poor structural properties. Also, rawdha soils give rise to surface crusting which interferes with the
plant air water relationship and inhibits the emergence of seedlings.
● sabhka soils: are soils that are made of sand.. Most of that sand in these soils is driven by wind,

Quinceañera Traditions
Every culture has some form of a celebration to recognize the coming of age of a child when they are

have different traditions. In Sweet 16 parties, traditions vary because of the many celebrations for girls
with different ethnic backgrounds. Traditional themes that are found in Quinceañeras include a church
service, the shoe ceremony, and the last doll which symbolizes her childhood being left behind.

There is no religious component to a Sweet 16. In some states, the Sweet 16 marks the day when the
young girl can drive. However, this is not always the case in every state. Nonetheless, the Quinceañera
party does not focus on the driving aspect. At a Sweet 16, the guest of honor might be given the keys
to her first car. On the contrary, at a Quinceañera, the quince is usually given her first pair of high
heels. Traditionally, most people choose to have a Quinceañera party. However, it is becoming more
common for the young girl to skip the extravagant Sweet 16 party because she would rather get a car
or go on an expensive vacation. I can understand why someone wouldn t want a big celebration,
because both types of parties can be very costly. A Sweet 16 birthday party for a teenager can cost
from $300 $25,000 depending on how big the party is. The cost of a Quinceañera can cost the
equivalent to a wedding. However, it is very stressful for Latin American families to pay for their
child s party so it is necessary to start saving from the moment their child is born. Many parents look
to close family members to help contribute to the cost of the party. For example, in Cuba the budget of
the party is very low, varying from $300 to $400. Due to Fidel Castro s reign, parents salaries can be
as low as $20 a month making it very difficult to afford an expensive

Resource Constraints Essay
iii. The Constraints
There is always a scarcity of resources such as man, money, machine, material, time, space and others.
The availability and usage of these resources by various activities are represented as linear equalities
and inequalities in terms of decision variables. An LP solution may be accepted provided these
constraints are satisfied by it. Along with resource constraints, one more assumption that act as a
constraint is known as non negativity constraint or restriction. As per this constraint, the decision
variables can take either zero or positive values.

A Picture Of The Kancamagus Highway
Painting a Picture of the Kancamagus Highway The mountains are known for cutting through the
landscape like glaciers. The Kancamagus Highway, or The Fearless One cuts through Lincoln, to
Conway, New Hampshire. Rich in history as well winding roads, and mammoth mountains are often
traveled by the fearless, and adventurous traveler. For some, they stumble upon this great beauty is
small and not appreciated, but for others the venture is a state of mind and continues to inspire long
after the visit is concluded. The Kancamagus Highway evokes the emotion of nostalgia in every
journey. Entering the area I first noticed the mountains, covered in rugs of green, gold, ember red, and
burning orange trees. The mountains were the spines of the land, holding together the whole
landscape. Off to a distance shining white pyramids could be seen. The tops of the mountains soared
up to the sky and to the heavens as to kiss the stars with the cold peaks. I was just a quiet observer of
there glorious range. They stood ghost like, and the only thing bigger then these slumbering giants
was my gaze when taking them in. As I turn from the outlook, leaving the booming mountains to my
back I notice the trees. Making up this glowing landscape were the burning leaves of the trees. The
canopy of color burned with high intensity. Each leaf was chattering in the wind making up faint
rustling, perhaps to keep the forests secret below. Nature s sympathy was conducting itself is a small
crescendo.

Psychopaths In Prison
Generally defined, psychopathy is a personality disorder that is characterized by a combination of
superficial charm, strong antisocial behavior, and extreme sensation seeking and impulsivity.
Psychopaths make up approximately 15% of the prison population while between 50% 80% of that
prison population could be diagnosed more broadly with antisocial personality disorder (Ogloff,
2006). While the percentage of those diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder is high, the
percentage of psychopaths in prison is extremely overrepresented compared to the average population
which hovers between 1% 4% (Ogloff, 2006). While it would be disingenuous to say that all

In prison, they figured out that the best way to leave was to operate at the best behavior possible. From
there, once they were outside again, they were able to operate the same way they were before. This
aspect emphasizes the effect that the striatum and the amygdala play. The amygdala acted in complete
disregard for previous punishment once the subject was out of prison; meanwhile, the striatum drives
the constant desire for stimulation. This drives the thought that there may be psychopaths in existence
who are caught less frequently and how that may influence their

Discovery Of The Cuban Culture
CChristopher Columbus discovered Cuba in 1492 and claimed it for Spain. Columbus described Cuba
as The most lovely that eyes have seen. (Gall, 170) Since that time Cuba has gone through a
tremendous amount of conflict over the last 500 years. They have endured war after war and foreign
occupation, which has caused many Cubans to flee the country looking for asylum. Even with such a
dramatic history the culture of the Cuban people live on not only in Cuba, but also in America. So how
do we determine how to properly communicate with people of the Cuban culture as not to offend them
and be considerate of their culture. We must first start off with the evolution of the culture through
their history.

Castro passed a reform act, which limited private land ownership, confiscated all foreign owned
investments, and established what would be a relationship with the Soviet Union. In April, CIA trained
Cuban exiles staged the Bay of Pigs invasion, a failed attempt to topple the Castro regime. Later that
year, Castro proclaimed Cuba a socialist country. The following year, the Cuban Missile Crisis started
when the United States discovered Soviet missiles in Cuba. The crisis ended when the Soviets agreed
to remove the missiles and, in exchange, the United States promised never to invade Cuba. By the end
of the 1970s, the economy began to slip and, aggravated by political oppression, life on the island
became intolerable for many. Since then, numerous Cubans have sought to exile themselves from the
island. Today, Cuba remains the only communist government in the Western hemisphere. After the
collapse of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s, an already struggling Cuban economy took a turn for
the worse. Facing civil unrest in the wake of an all but collapsed economy, the Cuban government has
been forced to dabble in capitalism and reverse its position on tourism. In February 2008 Fidel Castro
announced he was stepping down as president in favor of his brother Raúl. It was the end of an era.
(Gall, 170)
Even after all this, Cubans are said to be known for their warmth, friendliness, sense of humor, wit and
resilience. (Gall, 170) They tend to greet others with

Similarities Between Jesus And Levite
A virtuoso in law once inquired Jesus, what he shall do to inherit eternal life, and who are my
neighbors. Jesus replied by showing how a man walking from Jerusalem to Jericho, got assaulted by
thieves. Without his possessions and clothes, he laid there half dead. A minister going down a similar
street walked past the man and did not even try helping him, a Levite doing the same later. In the text
of The Parable of the Good Samaritan, it mentions, A priest happened to be going down the same road,
and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side (paragraph 6). This quote strongly proves
that no one cared for the man except one person, because the text stated how the priest and Levite both
were rude people who did not take pity or

The Pros And Cons Of Cocaine
What is Cocaine? Cocaine is the most powerful stimulant of natural origin. It is taken from the leaves
of the coca plant which is native to the Andean highlands of South America. It is a potent brain
stimulant and one of the most addictive drugs. In ancient times, South American natives used coca for
religious and medicinal purposes. The natives took advantage of cocaine s stimulant properties to fight
fatigue and hunger or to enhance endurance.

It takes time for the body to produce more and when you use cocaine you can deplete your supply of
neurotransmitters which are required for the normal day functioning of your body. This can cause
feelings of depression and lethargy making it difficult to take pleasure in things that would normally
feel good. It means that repeated use of cocaine or other drugs that interact with these
neurotransmitters such as ecstasy or amphetamines will result in less return as the drugs will have no
neurotransmitters to draw upon hence tolerance can easily build up on stimulants.
Short and Long Term Effects of Cocaine
The short term physiological effects of cocaine include constricted blood vessels, dilated pupils, and
increased temperature, heart rate, and blood pressure. Large amounts intensify the user s high, but may
also lead to bizarre, erratic, and violent behavior. The short term effects on the brain are tremors,
vertigo, muscle twitches, paranoia. Some users of cocaine report feelings of restlessness, irritability,
and anxiety
The long term effects of cocaine are very extreme. Once having tried cocaine, an individual may have
difficulty controlling the urge to use the drug and the perspective might change leaving the
consumption of the drug as primordial. Cocaine s stimulant and addictive effects are due primarily as
a result of its ability to stop the reabsorption of dopamine by nerve

Capsim Project Paper
Mkt 350 In a classroom far, far away, four people were thrust into a group. Their goal was to succeed
in the game known as Capsim. They called themselves Digby 2. This is the real life story of their
friendship, challenges, and accomplishments as they worked their way to the top of the game. On a
more serious note, our group took Capsim very seriously. In the beginning we were all confused as to
how the game worked and where to begin. We looked at the various tutorials and the booklet to try
and make some sense of it. Once we had some understanding, we tried to develop our strategy. In the
first few rounds we understood it was important to have our company funded through stocks and long
term debt. We issued stock the first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other than this, we didn t really have any problems with the game or with our group members. Along
with capacity, we also made it a focus to limit the amount of overtime and second shift workers. This
kept our costs down and our profit margin wider. We paid attention to our inventory on hand and made
sure to not schedule more production than was needed. Towards the later rounds, we really seemed to
grasp the idea of the game, which can be seen in our large increase in profitability. In the Finance
portion, we borrowed money in the first five weeks to pay off our current debt. As the game got into
the later rounds we began paying off our current and long term debt because our profits were
increasing at a higher rate. Overall, we believe that our group had a decent understanding of the
concepts as we finished with high market share and profits. Our group took time to meet every week
to discuss our strategy for Capsim. We met on Mondays, usually for an hour or so to discuss the task
at hand. We also met on Wednesdays if there was doubt in our decisions from Monday or if one of our
group members could not make it. Our group chose to discuss the game as a whole, rather than
sectioning it up to make sure that everyone was on the same page. We didn t have any conflicts in our
decisions and actually got along very well. Overall as a group we thought Capsim had its advantages
and disadvantages. We did learn a lot about the

Wage Gap Among Immigrants
The pooled OLS regression estimates by six different specifications are reported in Table 2. Under the
unconditional immigrant wage differential (only immigrant dummy variable is included), immigrants
earn 10 percent less than the Canadian natives. After adding the characteristics about gender,
immigration years, work experience, education, language skill, family factors, industry, occupation
and provinces in column (2), I find that the wage differential widens to 50.8 percent lead to an
increase of 40.8 percent when controlling other characteristics. These considerable changes arise
mainly from the inclusion of variables that affect the wage gap between immigrants and natives. For
example, immigrants accumulating more years since migration and more work experience, the wage
gap will decrease ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These effects are not considered in the unconditional wage regression model (the first column) so a
lower wage gap is observed. Thus, if theses variables are controlled, the wage differential will widen
significantly. I find one additional immigration year will increase the weekly immigrant wage by 2.7
log percentage points at the beginning. Moreover, in the higher immigration years, wage starts to
increase at a decreasing rate due to the factor that immigrant workers are too old to work less
efficiently than before. The similar situation can also be found in the work experience variable. All
positive coefficients of provinces imply that workers who reside in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Quebec,
Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia have wage advantages than workers residing in Atlantic
provinces. Compared with that of the Atlantic provinces, the provincial wage difference is largest in
Alberta at 24.67%, followed by Ontario at 21.95%, and British Columbia at 15.02%. This
phenomenon reflects that people in large immigrant provinces have significant wage advantages
relative to people in other

10 Reasons We re Stoked About Survivor: Cambodia It s hard to believe that reality TV show
Survivor is coming into it s 31st season. Yep, that s right THIRTY ONE SEASONS. Not many TV

they interact with each other when left stranded in the middle of nowhere. So what does Season 31
promise to bring? Here are 10 reasons we re stoked about Survivor: Cambodia. Number Ten: Jeff

Oskar Schindler Essay
The Holocaust was a dark time in world history. Jews, Gypsies, Homosexuals and more were killed

Schindler. Oskar Schindler has been described as a crook, an alcoholic, and an insatiable womanizer.
All of this may very well be true, but this factory owner was a hero to many Jewish men, women, and

  • 2. Difference Between Fixed And Fixed Cost Fixed Cost: Fixed cost as the name suggests implies any cost that remains fixed or does not change due to an increase or decrease in the amount of services or goods produced. It is a periodic cost that remains unchanged irrespective of the sales revenue or output, such as depreciation, insurance, wages, salaries, etc. The concept of fixed cost is used in short term accounting. Fixed costs are those expenses that are necessary to be paid by a company, independent of any business activity that is does. It is one of the two components of the total cost of a good or service, along with variable cost. Fixed costs are not fixed permanently; they change over time, but they are fixed in relation to the overall production quantity for the relevant period. For example, a company may be having unexpected expenses not related to production; and warehouse costs and costs like that are fixed only over the time period of the lease. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Suppose a company has to pay $10,000 each month if it wants to cover the cost of the lease but it is not able to manufacture anything during the month, the lease payment still remains due in full. In economics, if a business wants to achieve economies of scale, it must produce enough goods to spread fixed costs. For example, the $100,000 lease spread out over 100,000 widgets implies that each widget carries $1 in fixed costs. If the company produces 200,000 widgets, the fixed cost per unit would drop to 50 cents. Why it Matters: If a company has large amount of fixed costs, it has less predictable per unit profit margins than a company having relatively large amount of variable ... • 3. Role Of The Dutch Colonial Rule In this write up I will argue that despite factors such as different identities, the largely prevalent separatist conflicts in Indonesia are mainly based on resources. I will attempt to demonstrate that identity was instrumentalized in the colonial times to gain political and economic control, and that spilled over to an internal colonialism in Indonesia in contemporary times. This created the foundation for the Central government to instrumentalize constructed identities to gain economic control over the resource rich minority islands, which led to violent separatist conflicts throughout the archipelago. To begin with we can examine the role of the Dutch colonial rule in the Dutch East Indies and how they laid the foundation for instrumentalist manipulation. With 13,466 islands, 360 ethnic groups and 719 languages the Dutch were extremely aware of the diversity that prevailed in this region (The Economist, 2014). These various ethnicities and communities lived in peace prior to the Dutch role. However upon the exit of the Dutch, this peace was shattered. The main purpose of exerting control over Indonesia can best be explained by Immanuel Wallersteins world systems theory. It characterizes the world system as a set of mechanisms, which redistributes surplus value from the periphery to the core (Barfield, 1997). In the capitalist world system, the West makes up the core , while the regions of Aceh and West Papua make up the periphery . In these regions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Long Brush Analysis The Long Crush is an essay about the game of disc golf. The writer started the essay by pointing out the differences between the games of disc golf, Frisbee golf, and ultimate Frisbee. He writes about how a Frisbee is only capable of doing small amounts of damage when a golf disc could, in his opinion, kill someone. The writer then talks about how the game can be played anywhere at any time. After talking about what conditions he plays in, and how well he can throw the disc, he then talks about how, in comparison to other sports, disc golf is easier to understand and is not as expensive. The writer then gets in depth about how the game brings out a geekish side of him that causes him to buy several related items for his profession. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Moxey And Cosgrove Analysis Within his book Visual Time, which offers an unorthodox approach to the study of art history, Moxey writes: The history of art faces the disconcerting possibility that the time it imagines, history s very architecture, is neither uniform nor linear but rather multivalent and discontinuous (Moxey 1) . Indeed, though time within the practice of art history may in actuality be anachronic, or without a distinct order, it is not regarded as so at Wellesley s Davis Museum; here, the architecture of time is as linear as the physical architecture of the museum s modern exterior. The physical and representational mapping of the Davis use of chronological time is especially present by floor layout. The permanent collections are on the second, fourth, and fifth levels. Segmented by geography, which both Moxey and Cosgrove discuss, the second floor s collection of art and artifacts dates as far back as 2000 BCE and encompasses six of the world s seven continents. It is important to note that the stairs are set at the heart of the museum, allowing museum goers to approach a floor s collection from four different starting points. Though probably not intentional, this somewhat equalizes the collections featured on the second floor. Each geographic location are quartered off into makeshift galleries with the two largest being the African and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 6. Lao-Tzu And Climate Change Lao tzu believes that the world cannot be improved. This is because the world is a sacred place. That it cannot be changed because if we try to, the world would be ruined. Today we are facing the idea of Climate change. Much of the world cannot decide it this phenomenon is because of natural causes or if it is because of us and the way we live. When the earth was first came to existence there were no car burning fossil fuels, and there were no factories releasing pollution into the air. Lao tzu might argue that since we are doing all of these things, we are ruining the Earth, because the Earth was not made to be harmed in the way we may be harming it. • 7. Student s Name Of The Achievement Psychology Student s Name Institution Question1 The achievement motive emphasized the notion that links the personality traits and social background check of a person with his or her level of need for achievement. David McClelland stressed that the need for achievement is an apparent human motive that can be distinguished from other needs. He believed that the achievement motivated people, do not turn down rewards but the rewards are not important as the accomplishment itself (Bernstein, 2006). Motivation is based on the individual s emotions and the achievement related goals. The achievement motivation is aimed at attaining success and achieving all of our ambitions in life. As a result of this the achievement goals can influence our natural behaviour (Rochester Institute, 2005). Situational factors also affect achievement behaviour. The search for achievement is likely to increase when the possibility of success and the incentive value of success are high (Rochester Institute, 2005). This can be attributed to the following reasons: a) As duties get easier, success becomes more fulfilling and as tasks get harder success becomes less fulfilling. b) Reasonably challenging tasks seem to offer the best overall worth in terms of maximizing the person s sense of accomplishment. c) People differing in their desires to avoid failure, emphasizes that emotion and motivation are interweaved. • 9. The Discovery Of Penicillin During World War II In 1928, after the careless mistake of forgetting to clean his dishes, Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin. The scientific community still celebrates his discovery since it was a major breakthrough in science, especially in the antibiotics and fermentation field. Although his discovery changed various scientific fields and it opened the doors for research in areas not studied or considered relevant before, the actual usefulness of penicillin was truly reached until the large scale production of penicillin was achieved. Before its manufacturing penicillin was considered for researching purposes, but after its manufacturing during World War II, it truly became helpful for humanity because it could finally start performing within its antibiotic spectrum. Although it is true that the discovery of penicillin was attributed to Alexander Fleming, the response of the rest of the scientific community was crucial in order to achieve the large scale production of penicillin. After the incalculable loss of life during World War II, the scientific community was urged to unite and work together for the development of the large scale production of penicillin. Faced with the challenge of producing a sufficient amount of penicillin in order to start shipping it as an antibiotic, scientists from all over the world started working on feasible fermentation methods to make their set goal a reality. The first attempt started with Norman Heatley, an Oxford biochemist. Heatley believed that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Before starting this Introduction to Healthcare this quarter I actually thought professionalism was only about how you dressed yourself, but now I know that your attitude and the way that you conduct yourself plays an important part in professionalism as well. How you present your work is also a part of professionalism. What I feel about professionalism is it plays a big part in your everyday life because it can have an impact your day to day interactions with any and every one. It could place you in a category rather the person verbalize that to you or not it plays a part. The people you attract to yourself and the jobs that you may be eligible for depending on the way you conduct yourself. Which may not seem big but it is a huge deal. Professionalism will be used in my career on a daily basis. I would have to come to work prepared and on time. I have to come to work dressed like I am ready to work in the field that I m currently in or want to be in by wearing scrubs and the proper shoes with safety in mind. It will also be used when talking to Doctors, coworkers, patients and their families. • 11. The MMR (Measles, Mumps And Rubella) Vaccine Vaccines do not cause autism, it is as simple as that. Autism is a genetic disorder caused by problems with the wiring of the brain and getting a shot of a weakened, nearly dead virus in saline is not going to cause your brain to rewire itself. Likewise, abstaining from receiving vaccinations or worse yet, not getting your children vaccinated, is putting not only them at risk, but the health of the entire western world. In 1998, a British gastroenterologist named Andrew Wakefield published a research paper in the medical journal The Lancet that showed a link between the MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccine and the emergence of autism spectrum disorders. This research paper has been proven to be fraudulent, and even the author himself has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jenner engineered the first ever vaccine, which protected against the deadly smallpox virus using the similar cowpox virus, after noticing that milkmaids who had caught cowpox did not get smallpox later on. In fact, the word vaccine actually comes from the Latin variolae vaccinae, which translates to smallpox of the cow. Before Jenner created his vaccine, however, smallpox was considered to be the most deadly virus on the planet, killing over 300 million people worldwide in the twentieth century alone. It was especially virulent in infants and children, and when it swept through a village, from twenty to fifty percent of those infected died as a consequence, said Kendall A. Smith in his essay, Edward Jenner and the Small Pox Vaccine, Moreover, those who survived were often disfigured from pockmarks, and smallpox led to blindness when it spread to the eyes (Smith 1). However, the vaccines Jenner produced slowly grew more and more widely used and more advanced, and in 1979, the virus was declared eradicated. Now, that does not necessarily mean that it is completely gone, as samples have been found in ancient books and other artifacts, but no cases of a human infected with smallpox have been reported since 1978. A similar thing happened later with poliomyelitis, better known simply as polio. This virus was so prominent in the 1920s and 1930s that even President Roosevelt had it. However in 1955, a vaccine was developed by Jonas Salk in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. If all goes well, the virus will be eradicated by the year 2018. Because of the creation of vaccines, diseases that shook the world years and years ago are no longer even a threat to society anymore. We have lived so long without vaccines even being a problem outside of slight controversy, and they have even gotten more advanced and safer as society progresses, so there should be no outcry ... Aceves OPERATION ANACONDA: JOINT OPERATION PLANNING ERRORS Joint Operations After the September 11, 2001, terrorist attack on the Twin Towers, the United States (US) declared a global war on terrorism. Afghanistan was the first battleground with Operation ENDURING FREEDOM; US forces engaged enemy combatants in effort to deter, isolate and destroy, terrorist networks. In the early stages, unified land operations consisted mostly of special operation forces (SOF) with support of the US Airforce, US Navy, allies and Afghan Security Forces (ASF). This early collation was a joint effort that proved successful during the early phases of the operation. Engagement of enemy forces successfully deterred their operational capabilities and efforts that pushed enemy forces into Shahi Kot Valley. This concentration of enemy forces in Shahi Kot Valley fostered the development of Operation ANACONDA, a joint, interagency, intergovernmental, multinational (JIIM) operation. The joint operations planning process (JOPP), employed during the operational design failed to achieve the desired combat power necessary for successful shaping operations and decisive action. They are wrong for viewing Odysseus as a hero, and here s why. First of all, a strong leader wouldn t treat his shipmates like slaves, instead he would listen to their desires and try to put them in action. Odysseus was a brave hero for facing the monsters and for defending his shipmates, but he had to show mercy to the opposing side. During the journey, Odysseus was very violent and he always assumed that everyone is trying to murder him, so he attacked anyone and anything that opposed his ideas or actions. Lastly, a good hero wouldn t hide the truth about his shipmates deaths. In addition, a hero wouldn t betray his shipmates and leave them to run into their own deaths just to see his family. This was when Odysseus went to the blind prophet and she said that the ship and crew will get destroyed and he ll return safely, he still continued his journey with no doubt. Gandhi spent over 20 years in South Africa working to fight discrimination. It was in South Africa that he developed his concept of Satyagraha, a non violent way of protesting against discrimination. The first time Gandhi used Satyagraha was in South Africa beginning in 1907 when he organized opposition to the Black Act. It would be cowardice to run back to India without fulfilling my obligation. The hardship to which I was subjected was superficial only a symptom of the deep disease of colour prejudice. I should try, if possible, to root out the disease and suffer hardships in the process. Redress for wrongs I should seek only to the extent that would be necessary for the removal of the colour prejudice. Gandhi also faced the same discrimination on a coach from Johannesburg to Charlestown, and learned the racial condescension of the racial slur coolie. A coolie is a historical term for manual labourers and a racial slur. The term was used in America towards the Chinese workers that built the railroad during the 19th and early 20th century and toward the Indians indentured laborers. Perhaps it is the sweet drawl of southern charm that holds readers attention or maybe it is the way Walker redefines an insecure character, and transforms them into a character whose inner persona mirrors that of their own outer strength; nothing reads truer than the character of Mama. Mama describes herself as a bigger woman, who wears overalls, has calloused hands, and is not afraid to get them dirty. Mama is hardy and unwavering, she is the very essence of a hard worker. Mama takes pride in the fact that she can work just as hard as any man and still managed to raise two daughters. Mama even brags about her masculine strengths and accomplishments when she disclosed, I can work outside all day, breaking ice to get water for washing; I can eat pork liver cooked over the open fire minutes after it comes steaming from the hog. One winter I knocked a bull calf straight in the brain between the eyes with a sledge hammer and had the meat hung up to chill before nightfall (Walker). Mama has the physical attributes even a man would be envious of. However, despite all Mamas physical strengths she has never had the courage to hold her own; not even with her daughter. This paper mainly discusses the RFID applications in the traffic management, various other road related issues. The implementations of RFID technology has reduced fatality rates and also help us monitor traffic, parking and speed violations across the country. This monitoring of the traffic is commonly called as intelligent transportation systems (ITS). It is possible to operate parking areas without manpower by using RFID technologies. Check ins and check outs will be handled by this technology which will avoid traffic jams at the parking areas. By using this technology drivers need not to be stop at the entrance of the parking and owners will not have make any payments at the parking lots since all payments will be done online. We can determine whether the vehicle is over speed by accessing the vehicle speed in freeway using RFID technology. Section1: Introduction 1. • 19. Brief History of the Domestication of Cats and Dogs You can find at least one cat or dog in almost every home in America. In fact, approximately 67 million households have pets and there are 164 million owned pets in the U.S. (U.S. Pet Ownership). But, do we know where our beloved pets came from? Many know that the dog descended from wolves and the cat descended from some larger wild cat but it is a little more complicated than that. So just what country did cats originate from? Researchers found that cats have been involved with humans for about 4,000 years. They also found a feline that roamed Eurasia and Africa more than 34 million years ago! That s a long time! This early cat weighed about twenty pounds and was the size of the bobcats we see today. It was called the Proailurus, which means early cat (Cat History). The NC Museum of Natural Scientists states that cats came to North America with Colonial settlers in the 1700 s. Humans have helped spread them throughout the world by keeping them as companions (Pushy Plants). Unlike dogs, cats are said to have domesticated themselves. When humans started settling North America and farming land, cats came in and protected the crops from rodents. The humans saw that they were good so they fed and protected the cats (Carver). The humans also began to store crops, such as grain, and with storage, came rats. The cats were delighted by the great amounts of prey and the people appreciated cats even more (Zax). The earliest breed of cats in Europe was the Angora. Scientists ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Wage Gap Among Immigrants The pooled OLS regression estimates by six different specifications are reported in Table 2. Under the unconditional immigrant wage differential (only immigrant dummy variable is included), immigrants earn 10 percent less than the Canadian natives. After adding the characteristics about gender, immigration years, work experience, education, language skill, family factors, industry, occupation and provinces in column (2), I find that the wage differential widens to 50.8 percent lead to an increase of 40.8 percent when controlling other characteristics. These considerable changes arise mainly from the inclusion of variables that affect the wage gap between immigrants and natives. For example, immigrants accumulating more years since migration and more work experience, the wage gap will decrease ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These effects are not considered in the unconditional wage regression model (the first column) so a lower wage gap is observed. Thus, if theses variables are controlled, the wage differential will widen significantly. I find one additional immigration year will increase the weekly immigrant wage by 2.7 log percentage points at the beginning. Moreover, in the higher immigration years, wage starts to increase at a decreasing rate due to the factor that immigrant workers are too old to work less efficiently than before. The similar situation can also be found in the work experience variable. All positive coefficients of provinces imply that workers who reside in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Quebec, Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia have wage advantages than workers residing in Atlantic provinces. Compared with that of the Atlantic provinces, the provincial wage difference is largest in Alberta at 24.67%, followed by Ontario at 21.95%, and British Columbia at 15.02%. This phenomenon reflects that people in large immigrant provinces have significant wage advantages relative to people in other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
