Music and Modular Arithmetic and their Similarities
For many right brained people, like myself, math is not an enjoyable concept. Aside from just
counting, it seems that there is no correlation between people who practice differential calculus and
people who practice Violin Concertos. When I am working on learning a piece of music, the only
numbers I need to know are measure numbers and note numbers. But without realizing it, there is a
pattern of numbers that is present in most all music, a basic scale. Though it is different for each
key, most pieces stick to a basic eight note scale. Musicians understand the concept of the
musical alphabet. It begins at A and ends on G and is repeated over and over. But this concept of
the musical alphabet is the concept of modular arithmetic. If a piece is in the key of C major, the
C~scale would begin on C and go up. Each semitone between the beginning C and the next
octave could be numbered 1 to 12. However, at the number 13, the scale starts over at C again.
The next whole tone, D, would be numbered 14. But there are only 12 notes in the chromatic scale
so this new, higher D is 14 12 which equals 2. Therefore, 14 is 2 modulated 12.
This diagram shows a three octave scale beginning on a C and ending on an E. The original line of
numbers is how all the notes would be counted without repetition. Each new line of numbers begins
at 1 again at a new octave C. So without knowing it, musicians have incorporated modular
arithmetic into the very fabric of musical theory through the musical

The Funding Of Trio Programs
The Funding of TRIO Programs
Introduction
TRIO Programs are a group of federally funded programs designed to serve students from
disadvantaged backgrounds in their pursuit of higher education. TRIO Programs specifically serve
students who identify as low income, first generation, and/or disabled (U.S. Department of
Education, 2016). Eight different programs fall under the umbrella of TRIO Programs: Upward
Bound (sometimes referred to as Classic or Regular Upward Bound), Upward Bound Math Science,
Veterans Upward Bound, Educational Talent Search, StudentSupport Services, Educational
Opportunity Centers, the Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program, and the
TRIO Training Program for Federal TRIO Program Staff. In FY 2015 (program year 2015 2016),
the total amount allocated to TRIO Programs was
$835,620,934, serving 788,755 participants in 2839 individual projects (U.S. Department of
Education, 2016). All services are provided free of charge to TRIO Program participants. Prior
to the birth of TRIO Programs in 1965, the opportunity to pursue a college education was a
privilege only afforded to the affluent in the United States (Groutt, 2003a). TRIO Programs have
been largely instrumental in changing the collegiate landscape, not only in terms of who attends
college, but also the way in which federal dollars are spent to afford opportunities to low income
citizens. Upward Bound Program. Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math Science are both pre

My Biggest Contribution For The Uconn Community Will Be My...
My biggest contribution to the UConn community will be my fearlessness. I m not afraid of
being proved wrong, I m not afraid of failing, and I m never afraid of proving myself. When I m
working at robotics I don t tell people to solve problems creatively, I actively engage in their
discussion and love playing the devil s advocate. For example, this year when we were
brainstorming the best drive train systems to use for a design challenge they all wanted to do a
basic 3x3 system and simply use six CIMotors instead of the standard four. So, I challenged them.
I presented 6 valuable reasons why mecanum wheels with 4 CIMotors would work way better and
then challenged them to tell me why I m wrong. They couldn t, but mecanum wheels are... Show

But, that doesn t change the fact that I m one of the three most experienced members on that
team when it comes to course directions, techniques, and pitfalls to avoid. But my admittedly
disappointing fitness level means that I get a lot of sass from the freshmen and sophomores I m
trying to teach. They challenge my knowledge base and ability to teach them skills I ve
mastered because of my unrelated fitness level. But every day I go back and I challenge their
beliefs; I get on my rollerskis and show them how my balance, technique, and form are not at all
related to my 5k times. I m not afraid of their judgement or scorn and instead to go and I actively
show through my actions that I m not afraid to prove myself to them. I know what I can and
cannot and that s all I need to confidently advise and correct them while they learn. I m not afraid
to teach a doubting mind and I m not afraid of being challenged where I work. I m fearless, and
that s something every community needs. blech Three experiences in my life truly defined my
goal of going into medicine; my injuries, research experiences, and shadowing experience. My
personal injuries over the course of my life really ignited my interest in medicine. The truth is, I

my broken toes were fractured by being slammed in a door or smushed into a table. My foot was

Summary Of Who Invented The Lightbulb
Elizabeth Palermo, the staff writer of Live Science magazine that focuses on innovative progresses
in areas as science, technology, environment, history and etc. Palermo writes about science and
technology. George Washington University was a graduate school where Palermo graduated with
B.A. Palermo s article Who Invented the Lightbulb? gave interesting facts about scientists and
physicist who desired to succeed in developing the first lightbulb that help light up the world.
The articles Who Invented the Lightbulb? contain valuable insights about the history of lightbulb.
The author organized her article in chronological order to point out that Thomas Edison was not first
scientist who wanted to succeed on inventing lightbulb. Long before Edison created his laboratory,
many other inventors tried unsuccessfully to invent not just a lightbulb, but the lightbulb that can
every efficient and be introduced to world market. During 1800s Europe was a place where new
technology was introduced to the world. Starting with Italian inventor named Alessandro Volta,
who was not only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the most popular myths that she wrote about was a myth about the invention of the
lightbulb. Furthermore, Latson does say that Edison invented a commercially viable electric light
but the calling Edison as a first inventor of lightbulb is impossible and unfair to all other scientists,
chemists, and inventors who spent more than a half of their lives in the laboratories to create first
lightbulb that would be working and not only providing light but be a very efficient source of light.
The author explains that Edison used lightbulbs concepts of previous inventors and by using then
tested more than a thousand materials that would be more durable, efficient, and unexpansive to
hold the light. After many tests, Edison finally found a material that would last a fairly long

Bracero Program Essay
The treatment of the undocumented workers was extremely poor. Many farm directors broke
the program s contract when it came to the basic necessities that were promised to the braceros.
For example, free hygienic housing was suppose to be provided for the workers but many of
them live in chicken coops, markets, dilapidated bunkhouses, tents, barns, stables and shacks
without running water, sewers, toilets, or any facilities for bathing (Mandeel, pg. 176). In regards
to meals, the agreement was very clear in proclaiming that $1.75 would be removed from the
Bracero s pay but the maximum deduction that the owner was allowed to remove was $3.00
(Mize, pg. 19). The workers had the option of providing their own mean or paying but, multiple

Multiple components of the agreements were breached but not many of the braceros spoke out
due to the fear of their jobs being given to someone else. With both legal and illegal migrant
workers infiltrating in the United States, gave agriculturalist the opportunity to exploit and
abuse The Bracero Program and its workers. In 1951, President Truman s Commision on
Migratory Labor reported that employer abuses and lax enforcement produced deplorable
working and living conditions for the braceros; that the INS had effectively abdicated its border
control responsibility. (Calavita, pg. 1901). Nothing was officially done to ensure that contracts
were not broken instead, The Bracero Program continued to expand as Korean War began to rise
but there were revisions. For example, Public Law 78 was passed in 1951 by Congress. This law
officially extended The Bracero Program until 1964 which allowed more than 2 million workers to
have official contracts. Furthermore, it also faintly recommended that the agriculturalist have to
make a modest effort at luring in legal braceros before hiring illegal braceros (Chang, pg.

Testosterone And Estrogen Research Paper
When an individual comes out as homosexual or bisexual, they most likely hear the words well
that s your choice. But for any one person who actually is homosexual, they know it s not a choice.
So what makes us this way? The answers are small chemicals that control our very lives. These
chemicals are the Androgens, Testosterone and Estrogen.
Testosterone and Estrogen are the male and female hormones that control how either gender
develops. Between weeks 8 and 14 of fetal development, before the fetus s sex is determined, tiny
fetal ovaries (which may turn into testes depending on the chromosome factor) and adrenal glands
release the embryo s own supply of androgens. These chemicals then cause chain reactions in the
body, spurring the growth of the genitals (determined by chromosomes), causing major growth in
brain regions and impactful change in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When we feel attracted to an individual, we like the chemical balance or imbalance they possess.
Sexuality is also controlled by these chemicals. Estrogen and testosterone determine the gender an
individual is attracted to. But of course, there is a significant difference between sex and gender,
both affected by androgens. The gender that a person may feel can be changed by the levels of
their androgens. Their chromosomes may say one gender, but their brain says another. This all boils
down to evolution. Beauty, attraction, and sexuality is all part of Natural Selection. Humans with
better genes appear beautiful, saying I am healthy, I have good genes. However, this is futile,
humans are no longer physically evolving. We are in an age where we should value brains and
productivity over beauty and sex appeal. This is the remnants of the old vomeronasal organ that
identifies other pheromones and hormones in potential partners. These chemicals, among others,

Minimum Wage Debate Summary
After reading these two articles about the minimum wage, there are more interesting issues that
arises. While the first article by Sabia (2014) added additional insight of how the minimum wage
relates to the poverty level, McCarrier et al (2011) adds how the minimum affects health care. The
framework of each article, is describes in three categories; 1) decisions, 2) assumptions and 3)
arguments. The objective of this paper is to develop questions for each article, which may

The Civil Litigation Process
The civil litigation process goes through many steps and is very time consuming. During the
pretrial, it starts with pleadings where the complaint from the plaintiff and the answer from the
defendant are submitted. It then leads into discoveries, pretrial motions and settlement
conferences. When it goes to trail there are even more steps including jury selection, each party
pleads their case, rebuttals and arguments, and lastly deliberations and the verdict. This process
requires a lot of money and time, and is not necessary for every case. Some cases, such as,
business disputes or divorces, do not need to go through the same process are more serious cases.

There is a vast history of sports associated with deaf culture, as they help to promote social
interaction and athletic competition among profoundly hard of hearing and deaf individuals.
Deaf sports organizations cover multiple levels, including state, regional, national, and

competitions and some even go as far as to participate in the Olympic Games. A lot has changed
in sports since the football huddle was invented in 1894 at Gallaudet University. The following

Subculture Analysis Essay example
Description of a Subculture: Gymnastics Competitive Team Culture is the ways of thinking, acting
and the material objects that form a people s way of life. Within each culture there are many
subcultures, which are cultural groups within a larger culture with similar beliefs. Many times, the
subculture a person belongs to provide him/her with a sense of identity and belonging. Subcultures
are characterized by their origin and the characteristics that define it. While growing up I belonged
to many different subcultures, but my main one was my gymnastics competitive team. This was
definitely the most influential and time consuming subculture I was a part of and is considered a

Therefore, this subculture has strong boundary rigidity. Another characteristic of a subculture is
the language/jargon used by its members. Language can refer to the way its members walk,
talk, carry themselves, the slang words used, etc. Within my gymnastics team there was a lot of
language we used that set us apart from other subcultures. The technical terms used in the sport
of gymnastics is one of the obvious language barriers because only those who are familiar with
the sport understand the terms and their meanings. The way gymnasts carry themselves also
sets them apart from others. An example of this is when I was on the track team, a coach
pointed out that I ran like a gymnast. Although I was not with my teammates or talking about
gymnastics, the way I ran was an indicator of the subculture I was associated with. Values are
another characteristic of a subculture. These are the group s ideas about what is right or wrong,
what s important, how they view other people and so forth. As a part of a competitive
gymnastics team, I grew up learning the values my coaches instilled in me time and time again.
Things like hard work, dedication and commitment. As a part of the team, we all valued our
coaches opinions and demands for what we were expected to do. At a young age we learned to
that if you want something, you have to work to get it. We also learned that practicing and being in
the gym was what was important, while free

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Noble Fir
Introduction Abies magnifica and Abies procera, often referred to as red fir and noble fir, are
two closely related evergreen coniferous tree species residing in moist soils at mid and high
elevations of western North America (Zavarin et al. 1978). Ranging from 10 20 centimeters in
sizes, these two firs are distinguished by their hockey stick structured needles among their genus
(Parker 1963). Red fir, in particular, has the subgroups California red firs and intermediate Shasta
red fir (Mathiasen and Daugherty 2008). Controversies on whether red fir and noble fir hybridize
have long been debated in the scientific world (Critchfield 1988; Silen et al. 1965).
Morphologically, red firs consist of cones larger than 15 centimeters, chained barks, more
diamond shaped needles that exclude a groove, as well as basal bud scales pubescent throughout
(Parker 1963; Hunt 1993). Noble firs tend to be smaller than 15 centimeters and include narrow
ridged barks, grooved needles, and central basal bud scales (Parker 1963; Hunt 1993). Based on
his research of thirteen separated sites, Parker reasoned that most of the fir at higher altitudes in
southern Oregon as well as north western California were noble fir (Parker 1963). Nevertheless,
classification of the morphological affiliations of red fir, noble fir, and Shasta red fir are disputable
due to their variations. Mathiasen and Daugherty analyzed the characteristic of different degrees of

Symptoms And Treatment Of The Fracture
Quadriplegia is a very complex, life threatening condition that requires immediate attention after
initial injury. After arriving at the hospital, focus on survival is key by monitoring the airway.
Respiratory support may be required via mechanical ventilation through a noninvasive intermittent
positive pressure ventilator or an invasive tracheostomy if the injury has affected the individual s
diaphragm. After the airway is patent, the regaining of vertebral alignment and immobilization of
the spinal fracture site is implemented to reduce further damage to the spinal cord. Diagnosing a

Other causes for the individual to require speech may include dysphagia, vocal cord impairment, or
cognitive deficits. While the individual is on a ventilator via a tracheostomy, the ability to speak
aloud is lost. Interventions to improve communication include instructing the individual on how to
communicate by with mouthing the words, or by having the caregiver plug the trach with a gloved
finger (finger occlusion), or if applicable, using the plugging/capping/button intervention which
occludes the trach while allowing voice production so that the individual can speak. Mouthing of
words is used if the other interventions are not tolerated, and tactics such as intraoral sounds are
utilized to get the caregiver s attention. In the case that vocal cord impairment is present after
removal of the trach, vocal cord exercises may be implemented. If the individual is having
dysphagia, a food consistency a liquid level evaluation will be performed to assess any impairments
the individual may have. Once the problems have been established, ST will establish a plan that
involves exercises that include oral motor exercises, pharyngeal strengthening, and deep pharyngeal
neuromuscular stimulation along with implementing a diet with the accurate consistency needed
for swallowing safety. If the individual is suspected to have a brain injury, cognition may be

Essay On Fahrenheit 451 And Technology
Is the modern world becoming more like the thoughtless society of Fahrenheit 451? In 1953,
Fahrenheit 451, a classic novel written by Ray Bradbury, was published. This novel contains two
main themes: censorship and technology. Their society is so engrossed in new technology that
they neglect connecting to the world and the people around them. As technology continues to
advance in the modern world, these aspects become more apparent. While some people believe
that the world of Fahrenheit 451 is different from the modern world, society s reliance on
technology and actions regarding censorship show otherwise. Society s dependence on
technology has proven to impair communication skills. In the novel, Mildred and her friends
serve as a powerful example of this. One night, Mildred held a social gathering at her house,
which consisted of watching movies. Montag, the novel s main character, increasingly became
more distressed and pulled the TV plug. He proclaimed, Let s talk (Bradbury 271). The women s
reaction to the proclamation suggests they were uncomfortable. The novel states, The woman
jerked and stared (272). As Montag asks them questions about their lives, they struggle to answer.
As a result of making technology the center of their lives, these women were unable to hold a
simple conversation. In addition, following 15 years of research,... Show more content on

As a result, communication between humans has become unreal. People use technology to avoid
being uncomfortable, which may include having a genuine conversation. Technology is

experiences. If the modern world continues to practice these aspects, will they eventually become a
thoughtless society as seen in Fahrenheit

The House of the Vettii belonged to two freedmen, Aulus Vettius Conviva and Aulus Vettius
Restitutus, who amassed a fortune through a flourishing business. The House of the Vettii is not

A Tour Pouhokio 21 January 2013 PouhokioWater has always been of importance to our people.
The Maori word for water is wai and it should be noted that wai Maori refers to the purest water
available. In ancient Waimarama there were many streams that would originate in the foothills and
join together in to three main streams that would empty out in to the sea. Starting from the
northern end we have the Totara and moving southward we have the Waingongoro and the stream
at the northern end is the Pouhokio. Today the Waingongoro no longer empties in to the sea but
has been diverted to join up with the Totara. The Pouhokio remains almost where it has always
been and it is this river that runs alongside the village settlement. It was the Pouhokio that caused
the most damage in the devastating floods of April 2011. Of ongoing concern to the Maori people
of Waimarama has been the deterioration and decline of these rivers due to pollution and over use
for irrigation. We have a long standing grievance with regard to the Waingongoro River and the

The Influence Of Reality Television
Reality Television Educates Television has had an impact on our lives, bringing new information

improving young audiences knowledge by spreading positive messages through blunt situations.
For families, the most viewed type of televisionis reality TV. The straight forward situations in the
lives of the stars show a perspective that presents a problem which is then solved by the end of
the episode. When people complain that there are fewer good tv shows for families to watch
together, it s often assumed that TV has become more vulgar and adult... TV has become more
various and fragmented, it s become more specific (James Poniewozik). Television has a certain
group they want to target and that has a message spreading positive awareness. Reality TV teaches
the younger viewers on how to handle life situations and the life of others that they might not
know about. These messages inspire the other party positively and develops more knowledge for
the younger people. The spark of confidence in the younger crowd is mainly from reality TV. Girls

The difference between men and women is a very controversial issue, while there are obviously
physical differences; the problem is how the genders are treated. It is stereotypically thought that
the men do the labor work and make all the money, while the women stay in the house, cooking,
cleaning and taking care of the children. While this stereotype does not exist as much in the 21st
century, it was very prevalent in the 1900s. By using many different literary tools such as character

Henry live. The valley is described to be like a closed pot (Steinbeck 1) with no sunshine
(Steinbeck 1). This description reflects Elisa s emotions since she hides her true feelings of sadness
and a dull, un eventful life. Although, despite the winter weather the inhabitants of Salinas Valley
wait and are mildly hopeful (Steinbeck 2) of better weather, just like how Elisa is hopeful and
constantly waiting for something better to come along in her life.
Another important literary element used by Munro and Steinbeck is symbolism. In Boys and
Girls, Munro uses horses within the girl s stories and in reality as a key symbol for freedom,
and also as a parallel to the girl s life. The girl often dreamed of ruling a world where everyone
had equal opportunities and riding a find horse spiritedly down the main street of Jubilee (Munro
6). This showed some of the girl s masculine qualities of courage and nobility, but what the girl
would soon realize is that it was the men that were expected to save the village not women. In
reality, Flora the horse symbolized freedom but also symbolized the girl and her life. After being
locked in a dark stable during the long winter months,

Female Idealizations And Norms Within The Films Like Water...
The complex web of cultural determinations and predefined ideological system are predominant in
the lives of the female characters named Tita, Gertrudis, and Frida Kahlo in the movies Like Water
for Chocolate and Frida. Furthermore, throughout history, the development of female idealizations
and norms, which powerfully influences the behavior of women throughout society, has derived
from a masculine structure that is imposed onto the female gender. Although this is still prevalent
in modern culture, throughout the years surrounding the Mexican Revolution, women were
perceived as subordinate to men due to particular cultural determinants and predefined beliefs that
existed within the structure of society. Specifically, this structure played a leading role in the lives
of women, which regarded them as inferior to men while characteristically portraying women in
traditional domestic roles, thereby influencing the social norm of femininitythroughout civilization.
Predominantly, throughout the films, the existence of the complex web of cultural determinations
and the predefined ideological system within social and family traditions largely impacts the
dominant character and behavior of Tita, Gertrudis, and Frida. As such, in order to break free from
the complex web of cultural determinations, and challenge the predefined ideological systems in
their lives, the female characters of Tita, Gertrudis, and Frida behave in rebellious ways that reject

Metaphors In My Papa s Waltz
Theodore Roethke s poem My Papa s Waltz is ambiguous and contains mixed feelings about his

Mistakes In The Medusa And The Snail
Humans natural tendency to execute faults are ultimately the path to their accomplishments. In The
Medusa and the Snail, Lewis Thomas claims that mistakes are the highest of human endowments
and in which the response to a mistake is what ultimately shapes progress. Although mistakes can
be detrimental in certain circumstances, it is through these errors that humans are capable to
experience that they can eventually learn and progress forward. After a mistakeis made, it is
possible to do better than before and achieve a higher goal, in comparison to when no error is
performed. If one continues to succeed without faults, it is difficult to understand what can be done

Ancient Japan Influence

China. Throughout the ages, China has proven to be a country that has a society that is unique in

the spread of Chinese civilization started in the surrounding Asian countries. Almost all countries
were reached by land and were handed the Chinese ideas through war; all but one. Japan was

important factor in the influence the Chinese civilization had in Japan. Buddhist monks were
considered high standing men in China; this was because of the fact that after the chaotic Han
dynasty, Buddhism brought peace to the populace of China, both farmers and the new ruling
warlords. Buddhism was first introduced in Korea, and reached the Japanese emperor through
scriptures sent by a Korean ruler who tried to persuade him to implement this religion in society.
This was followed by intense debate within the island which lasted for more than half a century,
but eventually, in the late 580 s, it was officially adopted as the standard religion in the Yamato
ruled domains, and once this was declared, Yamato rulers started their propagandistic campaigns in
order to popularize it among their subjects. Although the Buddhist religion was the official religion

a series of different tests that differentiate between enterics. One is the Indole test. This test tells
whether the bacterium possesses tryptophanase which is the enzyme that breaks down tryptophan

indole is produced. This production of indole is seen by adding Kovac s reagent which causes a

surrounding characters lives. This creates ideal opportunities for dramatic impact, which will vary
in effect on the Elizabethan, and modern day audiences especially when various dilemmas are

Petruchio s intelligence is shown as he makes the comparison to a well established shrew and
his strength is confirmed implying he will be more than able to cope with Katherina.
Shakespeare equips Katherina with equal attributes. Her strength is made known to the audience
when she ties up her sister and hits her music teacher over the head. This leaves the audience
wondering who will be the dominant person in the relationship and which one will eventually
back down and give in. The first meeting between the two central characters includes the use of
quick witted responses and puns within the dialogue. In a recent film Ten things I hate about you
this scene was set in a paintball arena comparing shots and reflexes to the ability to out wit the
opponent. Katherina asks, What is your crest? Petruchio responds A combless cock, so Kate will

flirtatious nature. Some people in a modern day audience may feel that Petruchio is perhaps
moving too fast as they have just met and should wait a bit before revealing his feelings in such a
manner. Katherina asks the question in an insulting tone: claiming that Petruchio s crest is a

Stress management is also covered in our textbook in chapter 3. Indeed, chapter 3 discuss personal

While the article focuses on stress relief strategies in the work environment, the textbook gives
some useful stress management tips that could particularly help college students. Obviously,
college is a quite stressful experience. College students should then take advantage of this moment
to start learning and practicing the art of stress reduction. The first textbook s suggestion to manage

strategy is meditation, which helps a person reach a state of relaxation, but with the goal of

U.S. terms, despite the vast amount of wealth involved. The Adelphia Communications scandal
broke after the one at Enron, and it was also not as impressive as the WorldCom and Tyco financial
scandals.
It did not have glamorous high flying players, merely an old Greek guy and his son. The only time
the Adelphia Communications scandal really captured public attention was when the image of John
Rigas being paraded in handcuffs when he was arrested became a symbol of the corporate frauds
that cost investors billions in savings.
President George W. Busheven made political capital out of the image, issuing a statement calling
the arrest a sign that the government would investigate, arrest and prosecute corporate executives
who break the law.

Social Disorganization Theory On Urban Ecology And Burgess...
Social Disorganization
Nicole Hofmann
Criminological Theory University of Tampa Abstract
Social Disorganization theory has its roots in urban ecology and Burgess s concentric model. As
part of the positivist paradigm of criminology, it poses a scientific examination of the connection
of social disorganization and crime mediated by structural factors. The macro level research
concludes that a weakening of social bonds between an individual and institutions of socialization
will lead to delinquency. Over time, there has been much empirical support for the theory and
extensions have been made to include more reliable measures of social disorganization within a
community. This paper will discuss the origins of the theory developed by Shaw and McKay,
then move forward to prominent empirical support, social disorganization research on suburban
areas and lead up to valid criticism of the theory. Finally, there will be an examination of the policy
implications originally posed and a proposal towards a more integrated approach addressing causes
for social disorganization through the critical paradigm of criminology.
Introduction
Social disorganization theory is part of the positivist paradigm of criminology, a scientific approach
to crime causes, and part of the Chicago School of crime. While trait theories under the positivist
approach assume that crime is cause by internal factors, social disorganization theory relies on the
assumption that crime is caused by environmental

Benefits Of Being A Radiologist
A radiologist is someone who looks at medical images (such as X Rays, Computerized
Tomography scans, ultrasounds, and Magnetic Resonance Imaging) and uses it to detect
medical problems. Some of the duties that radiologists perform include: diagnosing illnesses and
treating patients using medical radiation. A radiologist can work at a public or private hospital
or set up their own clinic. Working conditions for a radiologist who is employed at a hospital
will not differ much from a clinic. You will not have to work not shifts or weekends just like a
clinic. Residents usually take care of those shifts. Some of the skills that are essential for
becoming a radiologist include being good following directions, taking the time to be precise in
your measurements and having good communication skills. I am really good at following
directions as I am always scared of the outcome of messing up. I also take the time to measure
things out very carefully unless I am positive that tweaking things a little bit might result in a
better outcome. I do have good communication skills when I am talking directly to a person in

Water Molecules Research Paper
Why is water an important molecule? Intermolecular Forces
Water is one of the most important molecules as it creates and supports life on earth. Water covers
75% of the surface of the earth and around 78% of the mass of the human body (infoplease.com,
2000). Its abundance, unique properties, chemical and physical interaction are the reason behind its
importance. The chemical composition of water is H2O. It is a polar, covalently bonded molecule.
A covalently bonded molecule shares electrons between the atoms so each atoms outer shell is full.
Covalently bonded molecules are not partially charged, except for polar covalent bonds. Molecules
with polar covalent bonds have partial charges. Within the water molecule, the oxygenatoms
unevenly share the electrons since they have more protons. The ... Show more content on

Water can also be found in all three states of matter naturally on Earth because it has a low melting
and boiling point, due its covalent bonds. Cohesion is when molecules are more attracted to each
other than the surrounding molecules. Dipole Dipole forces and hydrogen bonds are responsible
for cohesion. Adhesion the opposite of cohesion, when there is a greater electronegativity
difference between other molecules than themselves. Figure 4. Diagram of meniscus and capillary
action of water due to cohesion and adhesion (study.com, 2016)
Capillary action is a process where water molecules climb up a narrow tube / material due to
kinetic energy and a combination of cohesive and adhesive forces. Refer to appendix 1 for an
experiment demonstrating this. Surface tension is the result of a high concentration of bonds on
the surface of water. When water molecules have nothing to bond with above their surface, they
concentrate forming a barrier. Figure 5. Intermolecular forces on the surface and body of water

Understanding the Black Power Movement
IntroductionUnderstanding the Black Power Movement as it relates to the creation of Black or
African American study programs and departments is to recognize the efforts of radical student
activists on college campuses. The prevailing thought of the Black existence casted doubt on the
importance of Black/African studies at colleges and universities. Blacks, unfortunately, were
thought to not have a history, or at least one not worth examining, in the American existence and
even within world civilization. However, such as notion is baseless. In the tens of thousands of
years of civilization, Africans have witnessed and contributed to the productivity of the human
existence. The great salt and gold kingdoms of the Ghanaian and Malian Empires thrived long
before the Hapsburg and Bourbon dynasties rules Spain and France, respectively. Yet, the
contributions of those great African civilizations were often ignored in the historiography of early
civilizations. Even the contributions of the Ancient Egyptians have become part of the ensemble of
the Greek and Roman tragedy, removing Egypt from the history of Africa. The contributions of
Black Americans in the history of the United States were virtually absent prior to the creation of
Black Study programs and departments. The assumption of Black history was that it included the
300 plus years of enslavement, the Civil War (where student are indoctrinated to believe that
President Lincoln intended on freeing Blacks) and then the more

more similar because their militaries played a large part in their downfall, both empires had
problems defending themselves, and both were ravaged by disease and food shortages.
The downfalls of Ancient Rome and Han China differed in that in Han China, the rapid population
growth in earlier Han times gradually resulted in the deforestation of large areas of land. Without
trees to help absorb rainfall and hold the loose soil in place, flooding and erosion occurred.

All Behavior Caused By External Stimuli Operant Conditioning
All behavior caused by external stimuli operant conditioning). All behavior can be explained
without the need to consider internal mental states or consciousness. John B. Watson, Ivan Pavlov,
B.F. Skinner, are Classical conditioning Pavlov, Operant conditioning, Stimulus response that
assumes a learner is essentially passive, responding to environmental stimuli. The learner starts off
as a clean slate and behavior is shaped through positive reinforcement or negative reinforcement.
Both positive reinforcement and negative reinforcement increase the probability that the antecedent
behavior will happen again. In contrast, punishment both positive and negative decreases the
likelihood that the antecedent behavior will happen again. Positive... Show more content on

After the meat powder and bell were presented together several times, the bell was used alone.
Pavlov s dogs, as predicted, responded by salivating to the sound of the bell without the food.
The bell began as a neutral stimulus (i.e. the bell itself did not produce the dogs. However, by
pairing the bell with the stimulus that did produce the salivation response, the bell was able to
acquire the ability to trigger the salivation response. Pavlov therefore demonstrated how stimulus
response are formed. He dedicated much of the rest of his career further exploring this finding. In
technical terms, the meat powder is considered an unconditioned stimulus and the dog s salivation
is the unconditioned response. The bell is a neutral stimulus until the dog learns to associate the
bell with food. Then the bell becomes a conditioned stimulus which produces the conditioned
response of salivation after repeated pairings between the bell and food. John B. Watson further
extended Pavlov s work and applied it to human beings. Around 1921, Watson studied Albert, an
11 month old infant child. The goal of the study was to condition Albert to become afraid of a
white rat by pairing the white rat with a very loud noise. Behavior modification is a technique
concerning the change in the undesired behavior and enhancing desired behavior. It is an approach
that aims to modify the behavior of a

Causes Of Civil Disobedience
Although civil disobedience rarely accomplishes the change that it demands directly, it does create
change indirectly through raising awareness and support. Civil disobedience works by relying on
the reaction of governments/societies after individuals rebel to rally support for the protest. If the
government/society violently crushes the rebellion, as in the case of Antigone, then the civil
disobediencewins by creating pity and sorrow for the rebellion. However, if the government
/society does not react, then the individuals are still successful by being allowed to get away with
acts of civil disobedience which spread their cause.
Despite the tragedies surrounding the American Civil Rights Movement, change could not have
been made without the violent reaction to the movement. Rather than stopping or slowing
desegregation as the violent reactions intended, they only created martyrs for which the Civil
Rights Movement could rally around. Famously, J. W. Milam and Roy Bryant kidnapped and
murdered Emmett Till, a fourteen year old African boy, on account of flirting with a white woman.
Then, the guilty party was found innocent despite overwhelming evidence otherwise. Although this
incident may have been notable on its own, it became a very powerful motivation for the Civil
Rights Movement through the confession/arrogance of the kidnappers, and the work of Emmett
Till s mother, Mamie Till. Infamously, Roy Bryant and J. W. Milam sold the story of Emmett Till
to reporter William

My Autobiography
As a kid, I was always extremely talkative. So talkative that teachers would get on to me. Teachers
would say so many different things to me, but I never let it bother me. The most common thing
they would say would be like, Kate, quit talking and go move to a different seat.
Usually, I would respond back with, Okay in an annoyed tone, because all I wanted to do was talk.
I would still find a way to talk to someone else, but after a while, I would hear my teacher say my
name again.
Kate this is your last chance to quit talking or else you re going to the office or I m going to be
calling your mom, they would say.
Okay, I would quietly respond back.
Throughout the years as I go little older I started caring about the little things people would say
about me. Like one of the little things that would bother me was when some of my friends or
even some classmate would point out how I have an accent, or how I would do things differently
than them. I became very subconscious about my speaking every single time I would talk because
I felt like everyone would be paying close attention to it. I didn t realize that as a kid that having an
accent would be that noticeable to others. Suddenly my life took a turn when I entered 5th
grade. It started out great. I had a few friends that I could communicate and hang out with, but as
weeks gone by I started to become like a closed door. I rarely said a word to any of my friends. The
most I would have talked was probably a sentence or two

1.1.XML Signature
Due to increased distribution of XML in cloud computing, the demand for strong and active
safety mechanism on XML signature enlarged as well. A dangerous possible risk for cloud
computing security is the XML signature. XML Signature is a method, which is used to deliver
consistency, integrity and message confirmation, for various types of data. An XML signature
would describe a sequence of XML elements that could be inserted in, or otherwise link with, any

1.3 Metadata Spoofing Attack
In this type of attack, an opponent alters or changes the service s Web Services Description
Language file where explanations about service examples are stored. If the opponent succeeds to
interrupt service request code from WSDL file at distributing time, then this attack can be possible.
Since Metadata documents are distributed using communication procedures like HTTP or e mail
they are expected to open the options of spoofing attacks. It is likely for attackers to maliciously
modify the content of the WSDL п¬Ѓle and allocate them across all the Web service clients. This
has serious costs and security effects.
To overcome such an attack, information about services and applications should be kept in

Benefits Of Illegal Migrant Workers
Once working in the U.S., undocumented migrant laborers are perfectly exploitable. Because they
are not citizens or on work visas, they essentially have no rights in the minds of some farms. Farms
may provide poor quality housing, but no other work benefits. Agriculture doesn t have to pay
hourly minimum wage, so instead workers are paid by piece rate: employment in which a worker
is paid a fixed rate for each unit produced no matter the time invested. In some areas, farms make
it appear that they are paying laborers minimum wage by requiring laborers to pick enough
produce to equal a full day s pay. Over exhaustion induced by this is typically untreated because
of the lack of proper medical care available to migrant workers; either because of personal funds,
or ignorant lenses through which doctors view Mexican migrant patients (Holmes, 2013, p. 113).
Then if a laborer expresses any issues to their employers, employers will use the labor s
undocumented status against them. Essentially, they ll threaten the laborer with deportation if the
laborer were to make any action against the farm because of labor rights violations first hand
manipulation of the social divides of labor.
Yet, if the conditions of this job are so poor, and the laborers severely exploited, why do people
still choose to make the dangerous journey? The answer is documented in Fresh Fruit, Broken
Bodies by Seth Holmes. After spending time working and living with Mexican migrant laborers to

Jurassic Park Research Paper
The movie Jurassic Park is based on scientists trying to successfully extracting dinosaur DNA
from the thorax, cloning it, and breeding a variety of dinosaurs. Everything took place in a
remote village of Costa Rica. As a plot unfold, it becomes very clear that the Velociraptor is the
most dangerous of them all. John Hammond, the man who started it all, made his project more
cost efficient by using a few personnel as possible in the park. However, the park never got the
chance to open, due to the tragic that happened during a visit by private parties.
Dinosaurs Dinosaurs come in many different colors and sizes. The lifespan of a dinosaur is 75 to
300 years. Their daily life is hunting, mating, using the bathroom, and migrating. The defense
mechanisms helped them repair their injuries 150 mya. The bone structures are the skull, jaws,
neck bones, vertebrae, thigh, pelvis, tail, and rib bone. Dinosaur s average speed is about 27 mph.
Dinosaurs find their food by hunting, which is each other and some eat plants. They reproduce by

Supply, Demand Price Elasticity
Supply, Demand and Price Elasticity
People and companies make economic decisions on a daily basis by deciding how much of
something they will buy and what prices they are willing to pay for the goods or services. Through
individual decision making, consumers determine supply demands for their needs and wants, and
companies decide which goods and how many goods are to be sold, and how much to charge
consumers. There are many fundamental concepts and definitions that are important to
understanding the economics. The concepts that will be discussed in this paper are supply, demand,
and price elasticity.
Demand Variables Demand is defined as the amount of a good or service that consumers are
willing and able to purchase (Hubbard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Hubbard and O Brien, these technological changes are usually positive changes for
the company and help them find ways to make their inputs go farther, or cost less. The price that
other companies are charging for substitutes will also affect supply. If a substitute product has a
low price, consumers are more likely to go with that product. Many times, companies are forced
to lower their prices to compete with comparable products. The number of companies that enter
the market changes the supply as well. More companies in the market mean more comparable
products will be produced. Companies also look at future price expectations when deciding how
much to supply. If economists predict that prices will increase in the future, it benefits the
company to withhold some of the supply. Walt Disney Films does this with their VHS/DVD
collections. They keep their movies in a vault and re release them every few years. Disney has
created demand for their product due to the limited release and availability of their product.
Companies should increase production when they can charge more for their product, as they can
lose money if they are slow to respond to demand.
Market Equilibrium
The purpose of the market is to bring buyers and sellers together, with the interaction between the
two leading to production of what consumers want most. This is also known as

Why Is Sustainable Development Important
Why is Sustainable Development important to Bermuda?
Vincent Williams Savery
To answer this question, let us first define sustainable development. Sustainable development can
be described as a process of planning for a future without regrets . What does this mean? A future
without regrets is one in which our children can have the same quality of life and experience the
same economic, environmental and social standards that we are allowed to enjoy today.
Sustainability requires that we consume resources at a rate at which they can be replenished. When
our capital, or resources, is used up faster than it can be replenished, this is referred to as an
unsustainable situation. Bermuda is experiencing an unsustainable situation. We are ... Show more

How will our seniors afford health care and what resources will be available to tend to them?
Bermuda s economic success and continuing demand for housing has resulted in increasing
development pressure on its limited land resources. Housing costs have increased faster than wages.
High earning non Bermudian families competing with Bermudians for rental units has created
challenges in finding affordable shelter. Extremely high housing prices mean that the dream of
homeownership is unattainable for many Bermudian families. Segments of our population are
excluded from participating in Bermuda s economic success due to insufficient educational
attainment or skill sets. How can we address the housing crisis and ensure that all Bermudians can
participate in Bermuda s success?
Our current practices are unsustainable. Sustainable development requires that unsustainable
trends are not only identified but are also addressed. Our water use is excessive and water
supply is scarce. Waste production, traffic and air pollution are increasing. Our population is
aging, the proportion of seniors is growing, and the size of our workforce is shrinking. Open
space is diminishing and home ownership is out of reach of the average Bermudian. The quality
of life of future Bermudians will depend on if and how these issues are addressed. If we are
concerned about our future, and our children s future, then we should be conscious of how actions
that we carry out today will impact on

Disadvantages Of Wireless Networks
Technology is constantly advancing, which causes a need for mobile and wireless networks.
However, the creation of mobile and wireless networks causes a need to increase security
protocols and measures. Cell phones are now being used for sensitive work information, as well
as laptops. Many people have the capability of working from home by using laptops issued by
their employers. Using a home or public network is not always safe, it does not have the security
and systems to monitor the network and access. Before any work is done on these devices the
proper security needs to be in place such as firewalls, pop up blockers, and private network
connections. However, there are both advantages and disadvantages to the use of wireless
networking and what is will be like in the future. To start, a wireless networkor Wi Fiis a technology
that allows electronic devices to exchange data or connect to the Internet through wireless
communications using 2.4 GHz signals or 5 GHz signals. Wi Fi is also used to synonymously to
indicate a wireless local area network (WLAN) based on the IEEE 802.11 protocol (Ghosh, Sinha
B, K, 2016, p. 4). Mobile networking and Wi Fi are key factors in society. Wi Fi was invented and
first released in 1997. Becki Wood wrote an article titled History of WiFi in the article she says
WiFi has played an integral role in keeping us connected at home and in public. We ve come to
expect a standard degree of connectivity wherever we go, and regularly rely on

countless children and families enjoyed swimming in. At nighttime there would be mysterious tag

Artemis s Role In The Trojan War
Artemis was the Greek goddess of childbirth, chastity, virginity, hunting, and wild animals. Artemis
held so much power, she was capable of killing, plaguing, transforming people, or even healing,
which arguably makes her one of the most powerful Greek Goddesss.
Artemis s birth is associated with some conflict, as some accounts affiliate her to be siblings to
Athena, Ares, and Demeter. However, most professionals state she is the daughter of Zeusand Leto
and she is the twin sister of Apollo. This is the general knowledge everyone knows and agrees on.

win the goddess s heart by sacrificing another goddess s daughter (Mythology).
Along with Artemis s power and skill, she was a perfectionist. In one myth, it is told that her
brother, Apollo, challenged her to prove her ability to shoot a bow and arrow. The challenge was
held at sea, and was that whoever could hit the distant target won the challenge. Artemis s power
was so great, and her aim was so perfect, that she hit the target flawlessly. No matter what she did,

The Theory Of Self Regulation Theory
Self regulation theory can be applied to my Learning goal: to deepen my understanding of the 5
factor model and the way in which it relates to other theories of personality. Self regulation
theory can also encompass my Performance goal: to be at least one week ahead with my
readings and notes throughout the semester. Goals can be placed on a continuum to indicate the
extent to which they are compatible or conflicting (Carver Scheier, 2014). My learning and
performance goals are relatively compatible with each other as remaining ahead of readings each
week will provide the time needed to deeply understand the theories and concepts of the 5 factor
model. However, goals external to studying such as social goals may conflict with my academic
goals for this unit; conflicting goals can result in feeling drained and distressed (Carver Scheier,
2014). I do fencing for a sport, which may both be conflicting and compatible; it takes time away
from study due to training but it also clears my head and relaxes me which can facilitate study.
Although it would be ideal to attempt to balance all goals, partial disengagement may be
necessary if there is too great interference. That is, goals deemed to be less of a priority such as
social or sporting goals may need to be scaled back to be less demanding. As displayed in table 1,
I scored considerably higher on conscientiousness as compared to the mean scores the community
based sample found by Murray et al. (2009). Findings suggest,

The Positive Side Of Anger In Ayn Rand s Anthem
The Positive Side of Anger
Anger, everybody has it it s just something we feel. I have experienced it before and it has had a

government for them forcing to tell where he was at and break his glass box. When I was in 7th
grade I always got picked on and bullied. Anger just rolled out of my eyes like steam I got so mad
and sad it just led to trouble. Well I got in trouble for being so mad and irritated with these

Anger is felt by Equality when he is caught by the council when he was going to his hideout and
he felt anger because he would not want to give up his secret hideout so he said, We will not tell
you. (63). Resulting from that anger he had not given up his invention or his hideout. Another
example of anger presented in the book Anthem, by Ayn Rand was when Equality showed his
invention to the World Council of Scholars. The house of scholars were scared of his invention
so they commanded it to be smashed. So Equality ran to a window with the invention and yelled,
You fools! we cried You fools! You thrice damned fools! (75). That anger had led Equality to the
uncharted forest where he had found Liberty a girl he had met earlier in the book and they lived
together happily. Anger, a word you would think would never have a positive outcome does in the
book Anthem, by Ayn Rand. Everybody has anger they hold back and they are just like a ticking
bomb ready to explode. But anger in this case led to Equality leaving the situation which led him to
be happy away from the city. Anger is an emotionand everyone handles it differently and everyone

  • 2. Music and Modular Arithmetic and their Similarities For many right brained people, like myself, math is not an enjoyable concept. Aside from just counting, it seems that there is no correlation between people who practice differential calculus and people who practice Violin Concertos. When I am working on learning a piece of music, the only numbers I need to know are measure numbers and note numbers. But without realizing it, there is a pattern of numbers that is present in most all music, a basic scale. Though it is different for each key, most pieces stick to a basic eight note scale. Musicians understand the concept of the musical alphabet. It begins at A and ends on G and is repeated over and over. But this concept of the musical alphabet is the concept of modular arithmetic. If a piece is in the key of C major, the C~scale would begin on C and go up. Each semitone between the beginning C and the next octave could be numbered 1 to 12. However, at the number 13, the scale starts over at C again. The next whole tone, D, would be numbered 14. But there are only 12 notes in the chromatic scale so this new, higher D is 14 12 which equals 2. Therefore, 14 is 2 modulated 12. This diagram shows a three octave scale beginning on a C and ending on an E. The original line of numbers is how all the notes would be counted without repetition. Each new line of numbers begins at 1 again at a new octave C. So without knowing it, musicians have incorporated modular arithmetic into the very fabric of musical theory through the musical ... • 3. The Funding Of Trio Programs The Funding of TRIO Programs Introduction TRIO Programs are a group of federally funded programs designed to serve students from disadvantaged backgrounds in their pursuit of higher education. TRIO Programs specifically serve students who identify as low income, first generation, and/or disabled (U.S. Department of Education, 2016). Eight different programs fall under the umbrella of TRIO Programs: Upward Bound (sometimes referred to as Classic or Regular Upward Bound), Upward Bound Math Science, Veterans Upward Bound, Educational Talent Search, StudentSupport Services, Educational Opportunity Centers, the Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program, and the TRIO Training Program for Federal TRIO Program Staff. In FY 2015 (program year 2015 2016), the total amount allocated to TRIO Programs was $835,620,934, serving 788,755 participants in 2839 individual projects (U.S. Department of Education, 2016). All services are provided free of charge to TRIO Program participants. Prior to the birth of TRIO Programs in 1965, the opportunity to pursue a college education was a privilege only afforded to the affluent in the United States (Groutt, 2003a). TRIO Programs have been largely instrumental in changing the collegiate landscape, not only in terms of who attends college, but also the way in which federal dollars are spent to afford opportunities to low income citizens. • 4. My Biggest Contribution For The Uconn Community Will Be My... My biggest contribution to the UConn community will be my fearlessness. I m not afraid of being proved wrong, I m not afraid of failing, and I m never afraid of proving myself. When I m working at robotics I don t tell people to solve problems creatively, I actively engage in their discussion and love playing the devil s advocate. For example, this year when we were brainstorming the best drive train systems to use for a design challenge they all wanted to do a basic 3x3 system and simply use six CIMotors instead of the standard four. So, I challenged them. I presented 6 valuable reasons why mecanum wheels with 4 CIMotors would work way better and then challenged them to tell me why I m wrong. They couldn t, but mecanum wheels are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But, that doesn t change the fact that I m one of the three most experienced members on that team when it comes to course directions, techniques, and pitfalls to avoid. But my admittedly disappointing fitness level means that I get a lot of sass from the freshmen and sophomores I m trying to teach. They challenge my knowledge base and ability to teach them skills I ve mastered because of my unrelated fitness level. But every day I go back and I challenge their beliefs; I get on my rollerskis and show them how my balance, technique, and form are not at all related to my 5k times. I m not afraid of their judgement or scorn and instead to go and I actively show through my actions that I m not afraid to prove myself to them. I know what I can and cannot and that s all I need to confidently advise and correct them while they learn. I m not afraid to teach a doubting mind and I m not afraid of being challenged where I work. I m fearless, and that s something every community needs. blech Three experiences in my life truly defined my goal of going into medicine; my injuries, research experiences, and shadowing experience. My personal injuries over the course of my life really ignited my interest in medicine. The truth is, I m an incredibly accomplished bone breaker. Mostly, I break myself by walking into things, all 8 of my broken toes were fractured by being slammed in a door or smushed into a table. My foot was broken, the first ... • 5. Summary Of Who Invented The Lightbulb Elizabeth Palermo, the staff writer of Live Science magazine that focuses on innovative progresses in areas as science, technology, environment, history and etc. Palermo writes about science and technology. George Washington University was a graduate school where Palermo graduated with B.A. Palermo s article Who Invented the Lightbulb? gave interesting facts about scientists and physicist who desired to succeed in developing the first lightbulb that help light up the world. The articles Who Invented the Lightbulb? contain valuable insights about the history of lightbulb. The author organized her article in chronological order to point out that Thomas Edison was not first scientist who wanted to succeed on inventing lightbulb. Long before Edison created his laboratory, many other inventors tried unsuccessfully to invent not just a lightbulb, but the lightbulb that can every efficient and be introduced to world market. During 1800s Europe was a place where new technology was introduced to the world. Starting with Italian inventor named Alessandro Volta, who was not only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the most popular myths that she wrote about was a myth about the invention of the lightbulb. Furthermore, Latson does say that Edison invented a commercially viable electric light but the calling Edison as a first inventor of lightbulb is impossible and unfair to all other scientists, chemists, and inventors who spent more than a half of their lives in the laboratories to create first lightbulb that would be working and not only providing light but be a very efficient source of light. The author explains that Edison used lightbulbs concepts of previous inventors and by using then tested more than a thousand materials that would be more durable, efficient, and unexpansive to hold the light. After many tests, Edison finally found a material that would last a fairly long ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Bracero Program Essay The treatment of the undocumented workers was extremely poor. Many farm directors broke the program s contract when it came to the basic necessities that were promised to the braceros. For example, free hygienic housing was suppose to be provided for the workers but many of them live in chicken coops, markets, dilapidated bunkhouses, tents, barns, stables and shacks without running water, sewers, toilets, or any facilities for bathing (Mandeel, pg. 176). In regards to meals, the agreement was very clear in proclaiming that $1.75 would be removed from the Bracero s pay but the maximum deduction that the owner was allowed to remove was $3.00 (Mize, pg. 19). The workers had the option of providing their own mean or paying but, multiple working... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Multiple components of the agreements were breached but not many of the braceros spoke out due to the fear of their jobs being given to someone else. With both legal and illegal migrant workers infiltrating in the United States, gave agriculturalist the opportunity to exploit and abuse The Bracero Program and its workers. In 1951, President Truman s Commision on Migratory Labor reported that employer abuses and lax enforcement produced deplorable working and living conditions for the braceros; that the INS had effectively abdicated its border control responsibility. (Calavita, pg. 1901). Nothing was officially done to ensure that contracts were not broken instead, The Bracero Program continued to expand as Korean War began to rise but there were revisions. For example, Public Law 78 was passed in 1951 by Congress. This law officially extended The Bracero Program until 1964 which allowed more than 2 million workers to have official contracts. Furthermore, it also faintly recommended that the agriculturalist have to make a modest effort at luring in legal braceros before hiring illegal braceros (Chang, pg. ... • 7. Testosterone And Estrogen Research Paper When an individual comes out as homosexual or bisexual, they most likely hear the words well that s your choice. But for any one person who actually is homosexual, they know it s not a choice. So what makes us this way? The answers are small chemicals that control our very lives. These chemicals are the Androgens, Testosterone and Estrogen. Testosterone and Estrogen are the male and female hormones that control how either gender develops. Between weeks 8 and 14 of fetal development, before the fetus s sex is determined, tiny fetal ovaries (which may turn into testes depending on the chromosome factor) and adrenal glands release the embryo s own supply of androgens. These chemicals then cause chain reactions in the body, spurring the growth of the genitals (determined by chromosomes), causing major growth in brain regions and impactful change in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When we feel attracted to an individual, we like the chemical balance or imbalance they possess. Sexuality is also controlled by these chemicals. Estrogen and testosterone determine the gender an individual is attracted to. But of course, there is a significant difference between sex and gender, both affected by androgens. The gender that a person may feel can be changed by the levels of their androgens. Their chromosomes may say one gender, but their brain says another. This all boils down to evolution. Beauty, attraction, and sexuality is all part of Natural Selection. Humans with better genes appear beautiful, saying I am healthy, I have good genes. However, this is futile, humans are no longer physically evolving. We are in an age where we should value brains and productivity over beauty and sex appeal. • 10. The Civil Litigation Process The civil litigation process goes through many steps and is very time consuming. During the pretrial, it starts with pleadings where the complaint from the plaintiff and the answer from the defendant are submitted. When it goes to trail there are even more steps including jury selection, each party pleads their case, rebuttals and arguments, and lastly deliberations and the verdict. Language can refer to the way its members walk, talk, carry themselves, the slang words used, etc. Within my gymnastics team there was a lot of language we used that set us apart from other subcultures. The technical terms used in the sport of gymnastics is one of the obvious language barriers because only those who are familiar with the sport understand the terms and their meanings. The way gymnasts carry themselves also sets them apart from others. An example of this is when I was on the track team, a coach pointed out that I ran like a gymnast. Although I was not with my teammates or talking about gymnastics, the way I ran was an indicator of the subculture I was associated with. Values are another characteristic of a subculture. These are the group s ideas about what is right or wrong, what s important, how they view other people and so forth. As a part of a competitive gymnastics team, I grew up learning the values my coaches instilled in me time and time again. Things like hard work, dedication and commitment. As a part of the team, we all valued our coaches opinions and demands for what we were expected to do. At a young age we learned to that if you want something, you have to work to get it. • 13. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Noble Fir Introduction Abies magnifica and Abies procera, often referred to as red fir and noble fir, are two closely related evergreen coniferous tree species residing in moist soils at mid and high elevations of western North America (Zavarin et al. 1978). Ranging from 10 20 centimeters in sizes, these two firs are distinguished by their hockey stick structured needles among their genus (Parker 1963). Red fir, in particular, has the subgroups California red firs and intermediate Shasta red fir (Mathiasen and Daugherty 2008). Controversies on whether red fir and noble fir hybridize have long been debated in the scientific world (Critchfield 1988; Silen et al. 1965). Morphologically, red firs consist of cones larger than 15 centimeters, chained barks, more diamond shaped needles that exclude a groove, as well as basal bud scales pubescent throughout (Parker 1963; Hunt 1993). Noble firs tend to be smaller than 15 centimeters and include narrow ridged barks, grooved needles, and central basal bud scales (Parker 1963; Hunt 1993). Based on his research of thirteen separated sites, Parker reasoned that most of the fir at higher altitudes in southern Oregon as well as north western California were noble fir (Parker 1963). Nevertheless, classification of the morphological affiliations of red fir, noble fir, and Shasta red fir are disputable due to their variations. In 1953, Fahrenheit 451, a classic novel written by Ray Bradbury, was published. This novel contains two main themes: censorship and technology. Their society is so engrossed in new technology that they neglect connecting to the world and the people around them. As technology continues to advance in the modern world, these aspects become more apparent. While some people believe that the world of Fahrenheit 451 is different from the modern world, society s reliance on technology and actions regarding censorship show otherwise. Society s dependence on technology has proven to impair communication skills. In the novel, Mildred and her friends serve as a powerful example of this. One night, Mildred held a social gathering at her house, which consisted of watching movies. Montag, the novel s main character, increasingly became more distressed and pulled the TV plug. He proclaimed, Let s talk (Bradbury 271). The women s reaction to the proclamation suggests they were uncomfortable. The novel states, The woman jerked and stared (272). While this stereotype does not exist as much in the 21st century, it was very prevalent in the 1900s. Indeed, chapter 3 discuss personal stress management, and the topic is discussed in details in the section managing stress from page 77 to 79. However, the article and the textbook s approach to stress management differently. While the article focuses on stress relief strategies in the work environment, the textbook gives some useful stress management tips that could particularly help college students. Obviously, college is a quite stressful experience. College students should then take advantage of this moment to start learning and practicing the art of stress reduction. Another strategy is meditation, which helps a person reach a state of relaxation, but with the goal of achieving inner peace and harmony. The Adelphia Communications scandal broke after the one at Enron, and it was also not as impressive as the WorldCom and Tyco financial scandals. It did not have glamorous high flying players, merely an old Greek guy and his son. The only time the Adelphia Communications scandal really captured public attention was when the image of John Rigas being paraded in handcuffs when he was arrested became a symbol of the corporate frauds that cost investors billions in savings. President George W. • 33. Social Disorganization Theory On Urban Ecology And Burgess... Social Disorganization Nicole Hofmann Criminological Theory University of Tampa Abstract Social Disorganization theory has its roots in urban ecology and Burgess s concentric model. As part of the positivist paradigm of criminology, it poses a scientific examination of the connection of social disorganization and crime mediated by structural factors. The macro level research concludes that a weakening of social bonds between an individual and institutions of socialization will lead to delinquency. Over time, there has been much empirical support for the theory and extensions have been made to include more reliable measures of social disorganization within a community. This paper will discuss the origins of the theory developed by Shaw and McKay, then move forward to prominent empirical support, social disorganization research on suburban areas and lead up to valid criticism of the theory. Finally, there will be an examination of the policy implications originally posed and a proposal towards a more integrated approach addressing causes for social disorganization through the critical paradigm of criminology. Introduction Social disorganization theory is part of the positivist paradigm of criminology, a scientific approach to crime causes, and part of the Chicago School of crime. While trait theories under the positivist approach assume that crime is cause by internal factors, social disorganization theory relies on the assumption that crime is caused by environmental ... A radiologist can work at a public or private hospital or set up their own clinic. Working conditions for a radiologist who is employed at a hospital will not differ much from a clinic. You will not have to work not shifts or weekends just like a clinic. Residents usually take care of those shifts. Water covers 75% of the surface of the earth and around 78% of the mass of the human body (infoplease.com, 2000). Its abundance, unique properties, chemical and physical interaction are the reason behind its importance. The chemical composition of water is H2O. It is a polar, covalently bonded molecule. A covalently bonded molecule shares electrons between the atoms so each atoms outer shell is full. Covalently bonded molecules are not partially charged, except for polar covalent bonds. However, by pairing the bell with the stimulus that did produce the salivation response, the bell was able to acquire the ability to trigger the salivation response. Pavlov therefore demonstrated how stimulus response are formed. He dedicated much of the rest of his career further exploring this finding. In technical terms, the meat powder is considered an unconditioned stimulus and the dog s salivation is the unconditioned response. The bell is a neutral stimulus until the dog learns to associate the bell with food. Then the bell becomes a conditioned stimulus which produces the conditioned response of salivation after repeated pairings between the bell and food. John B. • 43. Causes Of Civil Disobedience Although civil disobedience rarely accomplishes the change that it demands directly, it does create change indirectly through raising awareness and support. Civil disobedience works by relying on the reaction of governments/societies after individuals rebel to rally support for the protest. If the government/society violently crushes the rebellion, as in the case of Antigone, then the civil disobediencewins by creating pity and sorrow for the rebellion. However, if the government /society does not react, then the individuals are still successful by being allowed to get away with acts of civil disobedience which spread their cause. Despite the tragedies surrounding the American Civil Rights Movement, change could not have been made without the violent reaction to the movement. Rather than stopping or slowing desegregation as the violent reactions intended, they only created martyrs for which the Civil Rights Movement could rally around. Famously, J. W. Milam and Roy Bryant kidnapped and murdered Emmett Till, a fourteen year old African boy, on account of flirting with a white woman. Then, the guilty party was found innocent despite overwhelming evidence otherwise. Although this incident may have been notable on its own, it became a very powerful motivation for the Civil Rights Movement through the confession/arrogance of the kidnappers, and the work of Emmett Till s mother, Mamie Till. Because they are not citizens or on work visas, they essentially have no rights in the minds of some farms. Farms may provide poor quality housing, but no other work benefits. Agriculture doesn t have to pay hourly minimum wage, so instead workers are paid by piece rate: employment in which a worker is paid a fixed rate for each unit produced no matter the time invested. In some areas, farms make it appear that they are paying laborers minimum wage by requiring laborers to pick enough produce to equal a full day s pay. Over exhaustion induced by this is typically untreated because of the lack of proper medical care available to migrant workers; either because of personal funds, or ignorant lenses through which doctors view Mexican migrant patients (Holmes, 2013, p. 113). The price that other companies are charging for substitutes will also affect supply. If a substitute product has a low price, consumers are more likely to go with that product. Many times, companies are forced to lower their prices to compete with comparable products. The number of companies that enter the market changes the supply as well. More companies in the market mean more comparable products will be produced. Companies also look at future price expectations when deciding how much to supply. If economists predict that prices will increase in the future, it benefits the company to withhold some of the supply. Walt Disney Films does this with their VHS/DVD collections. They keep their movies in a vault and re release them every few years. Disney has created demand for their product due to the limited release and availability of their product. The Theory Of Self Regulation Theory Self regulation theory can be applied to my Learning goal: to deepen my understanding of the 5 factor model and the way in which it relates to other theories of personality. Self regulation theory can also encompass my Performance goal: to be at least one week ahead with my readings and notes throughout the semester. Goals can be placed on a continuum to indicate the extent to which they are compatible or conflicting (Carver Scheier, 2014). My learning and performance goals are relatively compatible with each other as remaining ahead of readings each week will provide the time needed to deeply understand the theories and concepts of the 5 factor model. I do fencing for a sport, which may both be conflicting and compatible; it takes time away from study due to training but it also clears my head and relaxes me which can facilitate study. Although it would be ideal to attempt to balance all goals, partial disengagement may be necessary if there is too great interference. That is, goals deemed to be less of a priority such as social or sporting goals may need to be scaled back to be less demanding. As displayed in table 1, I scored considerably higher on conscientiousness as compared to the mean scores the community based sample found by Murray et al. (2009). Findings suggest, ...
