Allegory Of The Cave Vs Plato s Cave
By writing The Allegory of the Cave or Plato s Cave, Plato tries to convey to people that they must
escape the world of illusions and shadows and look at it with other eyes because that is the only way
that they can find the true view of the world. In other words what I mean by other eyes is that people
should see not only what is presented to them but see what is the real message hidden behind the
illusion. People should think outside the box in order to break away from the delusions and discover
the reality. Plato s allegory tells us about people s way of thinking about the world. In the essay I will
explain why not everyone wants to open his or her eyes, how people are misguided by illusions, and
why sometimes it is hard it is to see the reality. To begin with, we as a people have the ability to see
but not everyone actually sees things, and often we believe in what is presented to us blindly. In the
The Allegory of the Cave or Plato s Cave is written that the power to learn is presented in everyone s
soul and that the instrument with which each learns is like eye that cannot be turned around from
darkness to light without turning the whole body. By that he means that everybody has the ability to
learn things but not everybody wants to see learn them. In other words, the power to learn is ability
that everybody has but not everyone uses it properly. Plato s allegory reveals that education is the craft
concerned with doing this very thing, this turning around, and which

Public Governance And Internal Control
1.0 Introduction Charities in the UK and in general have come through a lot of criticisms from
external stakeholders on the state of their ineffective accountability and transparency, which portrays
that charities do not comply with effective corporate governance and internal control (CG+IC) in
order to improve their performance and credibility. The research will pinpoint the inadequacies of
CG+IC, then evaluate how when applied effectively could contribute to charities performance and aid
credibility, which would in turn improve their income level. In order to achieve these, charities should
be prepared to undergo changes and put in place controls that would support this reality. Charities are
voluntary organisations with clear ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Charities have been involved in some areas previously envisaged as the state s responsibility, in so
doing, have created an active partnership with the government. This brought about a new wave of
change, from previously, when many of the earliest founded charities were funded by religious groups,
the nobility, or wealthy individuals, to help the neediest members of society. Presently, charitable
activities and jurisdiction in the provision of a wide range of services are funded mostly by the state
and the public. Some charities receive more funding from the state than from private donors, (Brindle
2001); for example, The Children s Society, UNICEF UK, and Save the Children, (mainly due to the
purpose of their charitable activities). The consequences of this partnership have caused the traditional
boundaries in the public, private and voluntary sectors to eventually dissipate (Blair, 2006). In the
current economic ambience, many non profit organisations (NPO) are facing funding cuts, as well as
reduced voluntary donations. Others are facing reductions in income, whilst the demand for their
services continues to grow (Cornforth, 2012). As such, due to governmental and public donors support
received by charities, there have been

Analysis of the coach education and coach learning in the UK
1.0 Introduction
The UK coaching framework was revised in 2012/2013 and a more concise document based around
Excellent Coaching Every Time for Everyone which provided a focus on four main key objectives,
these were:
More appropriately qualified and skilled coaches
A more diverse workforce
A culture of self improvement
A better supported workforce.
This report will discuss the current status of coach education and coach learning in the UK. These
findings will then be used to identify and recommend to the management board of Sports Coach UK
and the Minister for sport where the investments from the central Governments for coach education
and development should be placed.
2.0 Current status of Sports Coaching in the UK
Gray (2011) said that coaching needed to become a profession; this is because of the widening
participation of young people in sport, community involvement and social responsibility and that the
health in Britain has gone down. Sports Coach UK (2008) agreed that it was in need of
professionalization because of Britain

Examples Of Ethical Dilemma In Nursing
As nurses, it is inevitable that at one point or another in our careers we will come across ethical
dilemmas when providing patient care. In fact, nursing has been labeled as the most ethical profession.
For nurses to meet the ethical obligations of the profession, the American Nurses Association (ANA)
developed the Code of Ethics for Nurses. Since ethics are fundamental to nursing practice, I believe
this code is of utmost importance. Patients strongly depend on a nurse s honesty and on their
adherence to those standards. By adhering to those standards, it allows nurses to develop a trustful
nurse client relationship while displaying compassion and empathy. Although these standards are put
in place for nurses, when faced with an ethical dilemma, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This patient had suffered an intraventricular hemorrhagic stroke. Since this patient lived alone, she
was found by her son unconscious; however, it was unknown how long she had been unconscious.
When she arrived at the hospital, she was a GCS of three and had not improved since then. Three
weeks later, when I returned to neuro ICU I again cared for this patient and her status had remained
unchanged. Therefore, an ethics consult was made with the family to recommend comfort care.
However, since the patient had undergone an ischemic stroke a few years back and fully recovered,
the family had hope the patient would fully recover again. Although, it was explained that the strokes
were different and the amount of damage to the brain was irreversible they still were not accepting the
reality of the patient s condition. These situations are difficult since the patient s family is in denial,
but you must respect their decision and continue to provide care for the patient (What do I do now?

Trauma
Dr. Jeanne Brooks (2015) stated that there are large amounts stress that is continuous and can become
a traumatic experience to a child. Stressful reaction produce chemicals that can negatively impact
neurological development. Some events that can traumatize a person some of these are: divorce, death,
abuse/neglect, disasters, accidents, and illness (Brooks, 2015). There are many factors concerning how
trauma affect a person and there spirituality can help in managing them along with some other form of

They (Tulips) are opening like the mouth of some great African cat..15. In her poem Lady Lazarus
Plath confirms her strong faith in rebirth and resurrection: Out of the ash I rise with my red hair and I
eat men like air16. It further makes obvious her repulsion on men. She believes that Suicide, Death
and Resurrection may fetch her eternal happiness. That is why, it seems, she loves death. She further
has strong conviction in resurrection to slay all men traitors in the world. She suggestively shows her
bitterness on her husband for his desertion from her life. Naturally all men and women have the sense
of repugnance to their mates while facing desertion. Divorce is very common in the West but Plath
could not digest Ted Hughes separation and his loveless life with her. Women folks expect true love
from men. When they find the love of man is only corporeal and fake, they turn brutal and commit
suicide or choose to kill their husbands at least in next birth. While modern American confessional
poets like Anne Sexton and Sylvia Plath are pondering over death and revenge, Kamala Das is
pursuing her deep search for soulful love in the poem Composition: By peeling of my layers I reach

Hemingway s Big Two-Hearted River
When reading Hemingway s short story Big Two Hearted River without proper knowledge and
context of Nick Adam s story after Indian Camp, various questions arise about Nick s motivations for
going out into the woods, heading to the swamp, and his psychological state. In this paper, I intend to
analyze Nick s motivations and psychological state before and during Big Two Hearted River in
reference to the question of whether or not this story can stand on its own and the effect of the
caesarian delivery and war in Fossalta on Nick s psyche. I believe this story cannot stand on its own
because it is the last story in Hemingway s series about Nick Adams. By writing Big Two Hearted
River as its last story, Hemingway intended that it be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without the prior knowledge of the effect of Indian Camp on Nick s psyche, one could easily declare
the events and his thoughts in Big Two Hearted River as normal, per the passage of time and his
assumed maturity. But, as certain imagery that evokes war in Big Two Hearted River suggests, Nick
also suppressed the events of Fossalta. The first scene in this story has him walking through the fire
destroyed town of Seney (Hemingway 209). He is carrying a pack and a fishing rod just as a soldier
would wear a pack and carry a gun, and, as he was a soldier, it can be inferred that he saw similar
scenes of destruction before (210). Phrases evoking war were also used by the narrator, such as when
Nick left the burned town behind in the heat, as if the town was in the heat of battle with gunfire
(210). Likewise, the imagery of the blackened grasshoppers also evokes war. Nick realize[s] that they
had all turned black from living in the burned over land, (the same land that is similar to scenes of
war) just as he was psychologically blackened by the war because of his injuries (212). He also
wondered how long they would stay that way, implying his questioning of when he would recover and
hope that he could (Hannum 107, Hemingway

Essay On Satire In The Loved One
Madison Millhouse
Dr. Fine
ENG 200H

Heaven is not a place on earth
Heaven on earth is a phrase almost everyone has probably heard, but few, if not, none, have actually
found it. This idea of an earthly heaven is represented by Evelyn Waugh satirically in his novel, The
Loved One. Through this satire, Waugh pokes fun at the concepts and values of society developed
through the rise of Hollywood. Waugh brings attention to the issue of society s increasing superficially
and attempt to create a perfect reality through his contrasts between Whispering Glades and the
Catholic view of heaven.
The first contrast Waugh depicts involves how one enters either of the two domains to show the reader
that Whispering Glades ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And not only does one need a fair amount of money to enter Whispering Glades, but one must also fit
within the boundaries of the type of appearance accepted there. As Dennis talks to the Mortuary
Hostess about arranging a funeral, she says, I presume the Loved One was Caucasian? (40). And
according to the hostess, the color of the Loved One s skin is important because Whisper Glades is a
restricted park. The Dreamer has made that rule for the sake of the Waiting Ones. In their time of trial
they prefer to be with their own people (40). Waugh uses such blunt language to capture the absurdity
of the concept that people are different species based on skin color. If there were a place that deserved
to be less segregated than others, it would be in death. And this point is precisely where Whispering
Glades and heaven differ; all are welcome in heaven. And while heaven looks at how one behaves and
who one is internally, Whispering Glades cares merely about the exterior of its occupants, an emphasis
that comes from the modern day s constant access to media.
The strong impact of appearance on society gets its roots from Hollywood and media in general as it
develops a society with the preoccupation with how one seems rather than how one truly is. On a
literal level, Hollywood uses different lighting, angles, cameras and

Online Community
After searching through various online communities, I finally found one that looked very interesting
and informative to me, fitness.com. I chose an online community in which I would not only gain
helpful information and advice, but I could also communicate with people who are interested in the
same topic as I am. I knew right away that it was a community rather than just a typical webpage that
someone had made. A community has places where people can post messages on a discussion board, a
chat room for people to talk instantly to one another, and a place where people can go to anytime of
the day to post messages. The site was available for anyone that was interested in fitness or nutrition
facts. The online ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were also articles that would help anyone with the questions they have about nutrition and/or

titled, Advantages through Fitness Training. It stated that injuries can be prevented through fitness
activity and it even motivated me to go to UREC, (the campus gym,) that day. Many other articles
were also helpful, especially about nutrition. The Fit Tips also provided me with quick little health and
fitness advice and information, which helped me to remember certain things about fitness and
nutrition.
Although there were many advantages to the articles, test, and fit tips, there were some disadvantages
to the online community. The different discussion boards were not very useful. At times, people would
mock those who were asking serious questions and looking for serious advice. Occasionally, people
would respond with helpful information, but not very often. A lot of the things people said were
repetitive and not worth the time reading it. When I posted a question on the Nutrition Board, I did not
get positive feedback at all. One guy called me a moron, and another person told me things that I knew
already. Being called a moron did not make me want to continue going to the site. It showed that some
people do not respect others when they are trying to be serious and receive

Essay on Emily Dickinson s Because I Could Not Stop for...
Emily Dickinson s Because I Could Not Stop for Death
Emily Dickinson s Because I could not stop for Death is a remarkable masterpiece that exercises
thought between the known and the unknown. In Dickinson s poem, Because I could not stop Death,
there is much impression in the tone, in symbols and in the use of imagery that over flow with
creativity. One might undoubtedly agree to an eerie, haunting, if not frightening, tone and use of
symbolism in Dickinson s poem.
Dickinson uses controlling adjectives slowly and passed to create a tone that seems rather placid. For
example, We slowly drove He knew no Haste / ...We passed the School ... / We passed the Setting Sun

The first site We passed was the School, where children strove (9). Because it deals with an important
symbol, the Ring this first scene is perhaps the most important. On this invited journey, one vividly
sees Children playing. Laughing and singing. This scene conveys emotions and moods through verbal
pictures.
The imagery in the final scene, We passed the Setting Sun (12) is very emotional. One can clearly
picture a warm setting sun, perhaps, over a grassy horizon. The idea of a setting sun, aftermath a fact
of slumber in a cold dark night. When Dickinson passed the Setting Sun, night drew nigh and it was
time to go home and sleep. Symbolically, her tour of life was over; it was now time for Eternity death.
While sight seeing in the carriage, one can gather, by the setting of the sun, that this ride was glimpse
of life flashing before her eyes; just as said to happen before you die. Lines 14 and 15 seem to support
this idea. The dews drew quivering and chill / For only Gossamer, my Gown (14 15). This indicates a
pleasant time cut short. Before she knew it, the cold Dew[s] (14) had set in.
The imagery in this transcendent poem shines great light on some hidden similarities between life and
death. This poem exercises both the thoughts and emotions of readers. Eternity and Death are two
important characters in Dickinson s Because I could

What Is The Vanishing Point Of View Of The Last Supper
The Last Supper is a painting made by Italian Renaissance artist Leonardo da Vinci. The painting was
completed on February 9th, 1498 and is located in the monastery of Santa Maria delle Grazie in
Milan. The Renascence masterpiece depicts Christ s final supper with his apostles before being
arrested by the authorities. The use of perspective in the mural is prominent and easily appreciated.
Leonardo used one point perspective because all of the lines in the painting convert at the top of Christ
s head, which is considered the vanishing point. The horizon line extends from both sides of the
vanishing point and thus goes through the top of some apostles heads. He also employs aerial
perspective, or depth by atmosphere, as he uses dull colors

Christ Figure In J. R. Tolkien s The Lord Of The Rings
The Lord of the Rings has many Christ figures in it. Most people think that Gandalf is the only Christ
figure, but he is not. Because Tolkien did not like allegory there are many others. Such as Samwise
Gamgee, Frodo Baggins, Aragorn, and Tom Bombadil. Aragorn is a Christ figure because he is the
true and rightful king. Aragorn, at first, seems to be an insignificant character. He seems to be just a
news bearer. As the reader gets to know more about Aragorn they learn what he truly is. He is the true
King, or in other words the King of all. Not only to the reader did it seem that he was insignificant, but
also to his fellow companions:

5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of
our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
This poem and scripture, as shown above, are very similar. When Tolkien wrote All that is gold does
not glitter , it was him trying to tie a connection in between him and Christ when Isaiah wrote, and
when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. What this is actually saying is
what happened to Christ. When everyone saw Christ teaching they just thought he was a carpenter s
son and did not listen. They had judged him, think that gold has to glitter. When in reality, All that is
gold does not glitter. (170)
Even before he was King, Aragorn number lessly shown aspects of what a true king does. He showed
kindness throughout the whole story. He had asked forgiveness when it was needed. Even though
some could not see him as a true King he was. He wandered his whole life looking to help. He was
just full of service. Aragorn did what he could do everytime. A little further there is a place where we
can rest for a little. There I will do what I can for you. Come, Boromir! We will carry them.

Influenza A Virus Essay
In the human body, there are commensal bacteria serving as part of the normal flora. Various viruses
can interact with these bacteria in order promote their infectivity. Poliovirus can bind with bacterial
lipopolysaccharide (LPS) for stabilization to prevent premature RNA release and improve cell
attachment to host cell through the poliovirus receptor. For retroviruses, specifically MMTV (mouse
mammary tumor virus), binding to LPS improve their chances of successful transmission. MMTV
bound LPS get binds to toll like receptor 4, which is a pattern recognition receptor of LPS. This event
eventually leads to the induction of interleukin 10 (IL 10), which is an immune response inhibitory
cytokine. By producing IL 10, it allows MMTV to go undetected by the ... Show more content on

Furthermore, bacteria and virus interactions extend beyond the binding of virus with normal intestinal
microbiota. Through the co infection on influenza A virus and Streptococcus pneumoniae, it increases
chances of mortality. It is important to note that the two are working together rather than through any
direct binding to increase infectivity. Prior infection with Influenza A virus allows for colonization of
S. pneumoniae in the nasopharynx. Sialic acid, a non reducing sugar, is released from cells and mucus
after cleavage by influenza neuraminidase. The sialic acid serves as a nutrient source for S.
pneumoniae for colonization. In addition, a deficient of the S. pneumoniae s neuraminidase, NanA
(neuraminidase A), which is essential for breaking down of sialic acid to allow for adherence to host
cells can decrease colonization. During co infection, influenza virus can partially restore nasal
colonization of NanA deficient pneumococci. Co infection is also beneficial for the virus since it can
decrease specific influenza antibodies. Another study also present that having respiratory syncytial
virus (RSV) can increase the risk for acute otitis

The Effect of Temperature on the Rate of Enzyme Activity...
Enzymes are important to cells because they allow both the making and the breaking up of bonds.
This would happen naturally and over time, but cells do not have the time to wait years, sometimes
hundreds, for that to happen. With the use of enzymes, such tasks can take less than a second. This
happens because enzymes are catalysts, and are able to speed up reactions. Enzymes, remaining
unaffected by the process of catalysis, can continue to perform their function multiple times.
However, like most things, breaking and making bonds require energy. This energy causes substrates
to change. The transition state is when substrate bonds are able to break up by themselves. Enzymes
help bringing substrates to the transition stage by slowing down ... Show more content on

Not enough salt changes the shape of functions due to the incredibly strong attractions between
enzymes. On the other hand, too much salt causes enzymes to denature.
Hydrogen peroxide is highly reactive and forms during metabolic reactions that require oxygen. It can
also form oxygen radicals that oxidize organic molecules and are potentially quite harmful. The
enzyme catalase is able to neutralize hydrogen peroxide and protects the molecules that are important
for life. Catalase is an example of an anti oxidant, aptly named due to its ability to interfere with the
oxidization of other molecules which causes damage to cells.
Catalase is a peroxisome enzyme and has four hemes. Hemes are small organic compounds with an
iron atom at the center. Catalase has to hold hydrogen peroxide, its substrate, close to a heme. The
molecule is then able to break up by two hydrogen peroxide molecules alternately oxidizing and
reducing the iron atom within the heme.
The purpose of testing the temperature on the rate of enzyme activity is to examine how different
temperature might increase or decrease activity. Adding energy in the form of heat to the enzyme will
most likely increase activity because more reactions are able to take place. However, cooling down the
enzyme and thus removing energy will most likely slow down the process because there is less energy
available for the enzymes to utilize for reactions. However,

Environmental Effects Of Cadmium
Environmental pollutants are becoming increasingly present throughout the world as industrial
progress has expanded in countries like China. Among these environmental pollutants, Cadmium has
been characterized as the most dangerous heavy metal ion because of its resiliency and numerous
negative health effects (Kermani et. Al., 2010). Growing dependence on chemical fertilizer,
wastewater irrigation, and uncontrolled discharge of industrial waste from activities, such as mining
and smelting, has led to large amounts of Cadmium in soil (Nazar et. Al., 2012). Cadmium has
adverse effects on plant life. Cadmium competes with nutrients, such as Calcium, Magnesium, and
Iron, that are also trying to get through the cell membranes of plant cells (Nazar et. Al., 2012).
Specifically, disruption of the Calcium channel in plants with Cadmium can lead to an altered plant
water relationship, causing, stomatal closure in many plants, leading to lower transpiration rate, and
inhibitions of photosynthesis through an adverse effect on chlorophyll metabolism. (Nazar et. Al.,
2012) Because Cadmium replaces the space that plants have for Calcium, the plants overall function is
worsened because it changes the plant s relationship with water, causing the stomata, which oversee a
plants respiratory function, to close. The plants then begin to transpire less and photosynthesis in
plants decrease as a result. Decreased photosynthesis leads to growth inhibition of plants and an
imbalance in

Reflection On Career Development
A. This lesson mainly addressed aspects related to career development. This lesson encourages
students to discover their academic and personal strengths, their skillsets, and their interests. Students
then take those concepts and apply them to career exploration. They are able to link their strengths,
preferences, and abilities to potential future career paths. Some of the specific aspects of career
development that I addressed include applying planning and career exploration in setting and
obtaining lifelong career goals, applying necessary skills for career readiness and success, and
teaching students where and how to obtain information about post secondary options. In this lesson
students are encouraged to apply decision making skills to place different careers into the appropriate
career fields. In doing so, they are also encouraged to begin thinking about careers that are of interest
to them and what career goals they have for themselves. They will be given resources in order to
continue career exploration outside of the classroom. While I do not expect sixth graders to fully
decide their career path, it is my firm belief that it is never too early to get students thinking about
careers and having them set goals in order to obtain the career and future that they desire. I also
believe that this unit touches on social and emotional development as well as academic development.
This lesson allows the student to collaborate with one another and work in groups as well as in pairs.
This promotes relationship building and teamwork. It also allows students to take an inventory of their
personal strengths and skillsets. This could boost self esteem and promotes a sense of self awareness.
Lastly, this unit also encompasses academic development. Students will understand that good grades
and academic success are key elements to obtaining the career that they wish to have. By being
academically successful, this will allow them greater options and opportunity post high school
graduation.
B. In today s world, I feel as though it is very important to incorporate technology into lesson plans.
Technology helps keep children engaged and we are now living in a world where technology is all

Juxtaposition In Crime And Punishment
In Fyodor Dostoyevsky s, Crime and Punishment, the conclusion of the novel plays an important role
in resolving and reconciling a multitude of conflicts within the characters. For Dostoyevsky, the
resolution of the story plays a significant purpose not only in resolving the various crimes committed,
but additionally acting as a moral reassessment for the characters that helps the audience reflect upon
their own morals as well. Accordingly, through Dostoyevsky s portrayal of the troubling abuses
committed by the characters due to their lack of regard for the law, a large portion of the novel
emphasizes the concept of a universal morality that should be intrinsic to humanity. Through the
analysis of the repercussions of Raskolnikov s crimes, Svidrigailov s crimes, and the juxtaposition

Femininity In Frankenstein Essay
Through the lack of female characters, and the dominance of goal oriented males, Shelley
demonstrates through Frankenstein that femininity, as defined by Michelle Miller, is both not a
necessity, as well as a crucial component in society.
The women in Frankenstein have a lot of femininity, as they are caring and compassionate and fit
Miller s definition, but due to their minor presence and use in the storyline, Shelley illustrates that she
doesn t believe that the world needs more femininity. When reading Frankenstein, one cannot help but
notice that the female characters have little substance compared to the male characters. This may have
been a result of the era in which she wrote: one in which females were treated inferior to males. ...

Because they are used for nothing more than their looks and seen very little in the plot, Shelley clearly
demonstrates her belief that femininity isn t needed to create a balanced society. On the other hand,
Mary Shelley also highly supports the need for increased femininity in the world, shown through the
inclusion of Henry, the female monster, and even through the absence of female characters. Miller
described femininity as a personality trait, not just a characteristic confined to females or males. Henry
personifies femininity and supports Miller s explanation that femininity is not just for women. Henry,
deeply read books of chivalry and romance. He composed heroic songs...and was so full of kindness
and tenderness (39/40). He is focused on experiences, like travelling through Europe and learning
Oriental languages, while Victor is focused on chasing his creature. Although Henry comes to a tragic
end, his life is much happier than Victor s because he did not confine his life to fixating exclusively on
results. Shelley also confirms that the world demands increased femininity by adding the possibility of
a female creature. Victor creating her mirrors injecting greater femininity into the world. He created
the original creature by himself and after seeing the damage he caused, agreed to make him a female
partner; After a long pause of reflection, I concluded that the justice due both to him and my fellow

Harriet Jacobs Incidents In The Life Of A Slave Girl
The impact of Gender in the Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl
The autobiography , Incidents in the Life of a Slave girl, was written by Harriet Ann Jacobs under the
pseudonym name Linda Brendt. This book details the life of slavery and how Jacobs achieved
freedom for her children and for herself. Jacobs detailed these painful, and intricate accounts through
forty one chapters. Harriet Jacobs unfortunate experiences as a slave were significantly shaped
because of her gender. Jacobs did indeed endure struggles through her race, but her gender is of great
significance during her time as a slave. Jacobs used herself as an example to show how enslaved
women were manipulated by their masters, the difficulties of being a mother during slavery mother,
and how the fight for freedom were all impacted by her gender. Once Jacobs original mistress passed
away, she was sold to a manipulative and lustful master. Forty years her senior, Dr. Flint, began to
manipulate her at the age of fifteen But I now entered on my fifteenth year a sad epoch in the life of a
slave girl. My master began to whisper foul words in my ear (chapter V). The manipulation not only
troubled her, but her mistress became jealous and full of hatred over fourteen year old Jacobs. This
caused tension between the mistress, Dr. Flint and Jacobs. Jacobs directed to the audience that beauty
is an asset to those who are not slaves, but an immense disadvantage to slaves. Jacobs understood that
she is able to induce the jealousy and anger of Mrs. Flint, She will be compelled to realize that she is
no longer a child. If God has bestowed beauty upon her, it will prove her greatest curse. That which
commands admiration in the white woman only hastens the degradation of the female slave (chapter
V). Although, Mrs. Flint was aware of the manipulation, Mrs.Flint could not control her husband s
behavior towards Jacobs. Thus, leading Mrs. Flint to take her jealousy and rage onto Jacobs. Even
though Mrs.Flint understood that Jacobs was not in control of the situation, Mr. Flint was. I was an
object of her jealousy, and, consequently, of her hatred; and I knew I could not expect kindness or

Kusmider V. State Case Study
On the eve of November 15, 1982, defendant Thomas Kusmider was informed by his girlfriend, that a
gentleman named Arthur Villella, had assaulted her sexually. Mr. Kusmider confronted Mr. Villella at
his home which led Kusmider to shoot Mr. Villella in the throat. Paramedics arrived on scene and
were able to intubate Mr. Villella. However, while en route to the hospital Mr. Villella pulled the tube
out of his throat. The victim later died at the hospital.
Several questions were raised by the defendant after his trial, which resulted in him filing an appeal of
his conviction. Although he admitted to shooting Mr. Villella, Kusmider alleged that there was
negligence upon the EMT s for failing to properly restrain Mr. Villella while being transported to the
hospital. During the trial, a pathologist testified that Mr. Villella s death was caused by the gunshot
wound to his throat, however, the wound could have been survivable (Brody Acker, 2010, p.116). The
issue of proximate causation came about during Kusmider v. State (1984). Judge Johnstone precluded
Kusmider from pursuing the issue of proximate cause before the jury as he ruled that negligent failure
to provide approximate medical assistance could not interrupt the proximate causation (Kusmider v.

Adolescent Learning Practices And Preferences
This assignment has two folds. It first attempts to capture and narrate stories of adolescent learning
practices and preferences in a middle school setting. Then, it analyses and interprets the narrative
through the lens of literatures. The interpretation also can be supported or confuted by the perspectives
gained from my interactions with adolescents and their teachers during my recent placement. As
Pendergast (2009) points out, there is a lack of emphasis on middle school education that results in
ineffective teaching and learning approaches. So, in recognising a need for every middle school
teacher to develop a better knowledge and understanding of adolescents, this qualitative exercise
becomes a salient point of my teacher training.
Adolescents are often seen as a risk or perceived to be at risk (Carrington, 2006). Like many, I, too,
have acquired such perception. Therefore, there is an urgency to replace the old with new fresh
perspectives. In order to engage adolescents, a teacher must explore various learning needs based on
the characteristics of adolescents. MYSA (2008, p. 1) defines middle schooling as an intentional
approach to teaching and learning that is responsive and appropriate to the full range of needs,
interests and achievements of middle year students in formal and informal schooling contexts. The
challenge of being able to understand and engage adolescents is significant.

Analysis Of Courtly Love In The Knight s Tale
Courtly love is simply a knight flirting with a nobleman s wife or vice versa. But in this story, it is two
men flirting the same person. This obviously destroys the relationship between the two flirtatious
competitors, which is what happened in The Knight s Tale . They are prisoners of war, and locked in a

Palamon and Arcite are locked in a tower in athens by Theseus after surviving a battle. They are fairly
close cousins, but when both see a beautiful woman, Emily, in a nearby garden, they immediately fall
in love. Since love triangles never work, the cousins are blood thirsty for each other and try to kill
each other. They eventually find themselves in an arena ready to fight for the hand of Emily, winner

Don Delillo s White Noise
Why is naming things so hard for humans to do? Why does it matter? What difference does a name
make? These are all questions raised in Don DeLillo s White Noise. This novel teaches how to deal
with these uncertainties in many different ways. This postmodern take on the human race and their
reality of the world discusses why the naming of things has such a high impact. DeLillo suggests this
matters because it all comes back to simulacrum, perspective, and questions the reality of these things
due to all the different perspectives. The truth is reality does not change, reality stays the same; it is
simply perspective. Ultimately White Noise allows readers to ponder on the problem of naming and
evaluate solutions to the world of uncertainty. DeLillo uses this postmodern setting to argue that the
problem is not the name of something, it is how the name effects people s perspective and reminds
them that despite the name there is no access to the absolute truth. These given titles and names
engender a certain aura and disposition for themselves that cause either excitement or disappointment.

Essay On Confederate Monuments
Of all the things in this world for people to fiercely debate today, 100 year old statues of dead generals
have somehow made their way into public discourse. In America, we face an interesting issue that has
been ignored for quite some time: what to do with our monuments to Confederate soldiers. There are
many reasons why I chose this topic, partly because I am already somewhat knowledgeable on the
issue, but I still have much to learn about this topic. Confederate monuments are an important debate
being held in our country right now and I intend to help explain why that is and help people to form

In our society today, 150 years after the Civil War, there are still a multitude of reasons to research
Confederate monuments. Recently, they have made many appearances in the news, which makes them

confederate monument removal has been particularly popular in the media. Conveniently, I think this

other side of the argument, I know that many of the most respectable men who were instrumental in

Symbolism In And Then There Were None

what they think may or may not happen. In And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie the ten
main characters in the story are constantly having this feeling of immense uncertainty. They feel this

story begins with all ten people being invited by an anonymous person and are murdered one by one.

evidence suggests that another person has died since there is one less soldier on the table. The author
uses Symbolism to keep the readers on their toes wanting to who died and how it happened. This

anyone dying. In addition, the reader now feels the suspense because they are pondering what will

The Perception Of Human Attitudes And Values
From this class I learned that the circumstances that you are born into and raised in help shape who
you become. Our attitudes and values are shaped early on by those who around us most frequently and
hold positions of power in our estimation. As children we both listen and observe the adults around us.
Without realizing it, we often take on their points of view until we are challenged. Moreover, few
people realize that their deeply held beliefs actually exist because of someone else. Most people are
not challenged on their beliefs and values, instead we tend to congregate with other people who share
and reinforce our values. When we are challenged and even presented with empirical facts that run
counter to our beliefs we are hesitant to change our minds. This is called belief perseverance. Humans
use inductive reasoning to support their cognitive bias. Most humans do this. It is hard to simply let of
an ingrained notion and take a counter stance. Since facts and information to the contrary does not
work effectively to change people s minds, the only option is repeated exposure and experience with
the irrefutable facts. An example would be someone being raised to believe that all homosexual men
are also violent pedophiles, despite not knowing any homosexual men in real life. Simply telling them
that this is not the case is not likely to change their minds, but repeated positive experiences with a

How the film techniques used by Baz Luhrman to influence the portrayal and development of

In the film Strictly Ballroom, the director Baz Luhrman uses many different film techniques to
influence the portrayal and development of characters. Costume and makeup is used as a vital
technique to show the audience the characters personalities and also the development of some

Even though Fran became more confident, her costume and makeup still suited her personality. For
example at the Pan Pacific Grand Prix, all of the other female dancers wore bright coloured, revealing
outfits, Fran wore a traditional red Spanish dress. At the end of the film Fran s physical appearance
changed dramatically and so did her confidence. These characters are good examples of how Luhrman
uses costume and makeup to effectively influence the portrayal and development of characters in the
film.
In Strictly Ballroom, Luhrman uses many different camera angles and lighting techniques to
exaggerate scenes, settings and even characters personalities. An example of this is at the start of the
film, when Scott Hastings is dancing by himself in a room, there is a bright, white spotlight on him as
he dances, drawing the audience to watch him. This happens whenever Scott dances and it shows the
audience that Scott has a sense of purity and that he is the protagonist of the film. Luhrman uses low
angle shots when Scott and Fran are dancing at the end of the film, this is a good technique used so the
audience can see them dancing and also gives the audience the impression that they are dominate and
confident. Another character who is a good example of camera angles and film techniques being used
on them to portray their personality is Barry Fife. Barry is a mean character and Luhrman uses dark,
reddish lighting to make him seem evil.

discrimination based on sex, during participation in sports, created the idea of the passage of Title IX,
which was successful at promoting equality for women through having less discrimination against
women, providing more opportunities for women in sports, and creating equal treatment in athletics.
While participating in sports, girls and women faced discrimination and prejudice. Women were told
that competing in athletics was not lady like , and you were called names, for example, a lesbian or
tom boy. Women were looked at as physically unattractive and were seen as selfish because they were

The Red Badge Of Courage
The Red Badge of Courage is a war novel written to exemplify the experiences and emotions of a
young soldier in the American Civil War. The novel details the qualities of maturity and manhood in a
gripping tale of Private Henry Fleming of the Union Army. The author, Stephen Crane wishes to relate
the American public to the emotional and psychological challenges endured by countless men in the
Civil War. Born in 1871, Stephen Crane was raised in a Methodist family. While training to become a
professional baseball player, he eventually chose to write as his career. Throughout most of his life,
Stephen stuck to his commitment that all his work should be backed by personal experience on the
subject matter. However, his most famous work, The Red Badge of Courage was completely based on
his remarkable imagination. He had no war experience; however, his vivid descriptions and details of
war surprised critics with their incredible accuracy. Stephen s approach at writing the novel was to
emphasize the passion, confusion, and growth of the soldiers, as most of the war tales at the time were
merely factual. The Red Badge of Courage presents war in a new light, one of emotional struggles and
mental milestones. In the tense times of today, it is easy to forget the maturity and courage of our
nation s heroes. Many writers and politicians portray war as a battle between good and evil, or as a
fight for superiority. While this may be true, it is necessary to remember the

Descriptive Essay On A Lake House
My skin soaking up the sun, the water splashing at my face, and the constant wind in my hair are my
favorite little things while on the boat at my lake house. As I sit on the boat I take in every stress free
moment it offers to me. My lake house is on Shafer Lake, which is right in the middle of a small town
Monon, Indiana. Aside from living in Italy, this is where I picture my life after retirement. Lake time
is always a great time. Dad says.
Lake time is always a great time. My little brother repeats after him.
July 5th 2016 was a very hot and very sunny day, it felt as if my skin was being cooked. My family
and I went on the boat and hung out by the sand bar all morning. It s mixed emotions being on the
tube, considering the boat is going about 35 MPH, I m on a tube in the wavy lake, connected by a rope
to the boat. It s hard to focus on one emotion. I m excited and terrified all in one. Although we picture
lake time always being a great time, that July day was not a great time. I remember feeling as if our
bodies were giving in to the sun so we decided to call it a day around 2 PM. We approached the pier to
pull the boat in. Our dock is a parking space in water surrounded by a wooden pier on the sides and
the front. To prevent the boat hitting from the sides, my brothers, my mom, and I will grab the sides of
the pier as my dad steers it.
Jess wake up! My mother shouted in hopes I wake up to help dock the boat. My immediate response
was to stick my leg out of

Irene Martinez Character Analysis
Strength in the Weakness It is impossible for us, as humans, to be free of obstacles, challenges, and
problems. Immediately, when I think about a tough life, I remember my beautiful grandmother, Irene
Martinez. Bravery, courage, and strength are the words that describe this wonderful woman. She faced
different challenges during the sixty five years she lived. For example, the loss of her father when she
was only thirteen years old. Even though she was a little girl experiencing the harshness of life, she
never gave up. The loss of loved ones, sickness, and pain were some of the challenges she had to face
and overcome throughout the years. Losing a loved one is heartbreaking. Although, Irene Martinez
was a strong woman, she experienced the

The Expansion Of The Antebellum Period
Prior to the Antebellum Period, the United States began to expand its influence to the Midwest.
Although there were conflicts regarding the state of slavery, the expansion of land helped the people
of America attain cheaper and larger plots of land out west. Due to the fact that more land was
available within the United States, immigrants had the desire to emigrate to America and establish
new ways of life. Since both the Irish and the Germans brought their own ideologies with them,
conflicts arose with them and the Americans, which made the American s fear change. Along with
immigrants came the European Romantic Movement. This movement emphasized the ideas of man s
perfection and the metaphysical and spiritual side of humans. Although, during the Antebellum Period,
the American s fear of change led to reforms involving the immigration of others and, ultimately, the
Second Great Awakening, but the Romantic Movement, brought from Europe by the said immigrants,
also led to reforms such as abolitionism and feminism within American society. With the immigration
of Europeans, primarily the Irish, came conflicting views that created tension within the United States
and caused Americans to fear change and reform their society. Due to these tensions, a new ideology,
nativism, became popular. Nativism, an anti immigration ideology, emphasized the idea that
immigrants were only liked for their ability to serve and listen to what their priests told them to. Also,
nativism stated

The Theory Of Plate Tectonics
Plate Tectonics The theory of plate tectonics has been explored throughout history because of
similarities in coastal boundaries and other evidence found such as fossil records, geometric fit,
mountain episodes, the paleoclimate observed, information about the ocean floor, ancient magnetism,
distribution of volcanoes and earthquakes and heat flow from the earths core. There were early
theories from Wegner s continental drift which lacked an explanation for the mechanism that drove the
continents apart, to Wilson s more complete theory of the cyclical opening and closing of the ocean
basins due to movement of the earth s plates. The theory explains how today s continents were once a
large supercontinent that slowly drifted to their present positions and will again form one giant
continent via collision.
According to the Natego film Colliding Continents, the landmasses are liable to drift back to each
other through plate tectonic activity. One of the few places on Earth where one can see continents
being pushed apart is in Iceland, where the mid Atlantic ridge in shows above the surface and shows
how oceanic crust is made, the ridge in Iceland is almost three miles wide on one side you have the
Eurasian plate and the other is the American plate. This rifts grows forming new rock and causes the
continents further apart widening the Atlantic Ocean moving about an inch a year. The theory suggests
that we go through cycles of dispersion and collision over a 100 million year

  • 2. Allegory Of The Cave Vs Plato s Cave By writing The Allegory of the Cave or Plato s Cave, Plato tries to convey to people that they must escape the world of illusions and shadows and look at it with other eyes because that is the only way that they can find the true view of the world. In other words what I mean by other eyes is that people should see not only what is presented to them but see what is the real message hidden behind the illusion. People should think outside the box in order to break away from the delusions and discover the reality. Plato s allegory tells us about people s way of thinking about the world. In the essay I will explain why not everyone wants to open his or her eyes, how people are misguided by illusions, and why sometimes it is hard it is to see the reality. To begin with, we as a people have the ability to see but not everyone actually sees things, and often we believe in what is presented to us blindly. In the The Allegory of the Cave or Plato s Cave is written that the power to learn is presented in everyone s soul and that the instrument with which each learns is like eye that cannot be turned around from darkness to light without turning the whole body. By that he means that everybody has the ability to learn things but not everybody wants to see learn them. In other words, the power to learn is ability that everybody has but not everyone uses it properly. Public Governance And Internal Control 1.0 Introduction Charities in the UK and in general have come through a lot of criticisms from external stakeholders on the state of their ineffective accountability and transparency, which portrays that charities do not comply with effective corporate governance and internal control (CG+IC) in order to improve their performance and credibility. The research will pinpoint the inadequacies of CG+IC, then evaluate how when applied effectively could contribute to charities performance and aid credibility, which would in turn improve their income level. In order to achieve these, charities should be prepared to undergo changes and put in place controls that would support this reality. Charities are voluntary organisations with clear ... Charities have been involved in some areas previously envisaged as the state s responsibility, in so doing, have created an active partnership with the government. This brought about a new wave of change, from previously, when many of the earliest founded charities were funded by religious groups, the nobility, or wealthy individuals, to help the neediest members of society. Presently, charitable activities and jurisdiction in the provision of a wide range of services are funded mostly by the state and the public. Some charities receive more funding from the state than from private donors, (Brindle 2001); for example, The Children s Society, UNICEF UK, and Save the Children, (mainly due to the purpose of their charitable activities). The consequences of this partnership have caused the traditional boundaries in the public, private and voluntary sectors to eventually dissipate (Blair, 2006). In the current economic ambience, many non profit organisations (NPO) are facing funding cuts, as well as reduced voluntary donations. Others are facing reductions in income, whilst the demand for their services continues to grow (Cornforth, 2012). In fact, nursing has been labeled as the most ethical profession. Since ethics are fundamental to nursing practice, I believe this code is of utmost importance. Patients strongly depend on a nurse s honesty and on their adherence to those standards. The first scene in this story has him walking through the fire destroyed town of Seney (Hemingway 209). He is carrying a pack and a fishing rod just as a soldier would wear a pack and carry a gun, and, as he was a soldier, it can be inferred that he saw similar scenes of destruction before (210). Phrases evoking war were also used by the narrator, such as when Nick left the burned town behind in the heat, as if the town was in the heat of battle with gunfire (210). Likewise, the imagery of the blackened grasshoppers also evokes war. This idea of an earthly heaven is represented by Evelyn Waugh satirically in his novel, The Loved One. Through this satire, Waugh pokes fun at the concepts and values of society developed through the rise of Hollywood. And not only does one need a fair amount of money to enter Whispering Glades, but one must also fit within the boundaries of the type of appearance accepted there. As Dennis talks to the Mortuary Hostess about arranging a funeral, she says, I presume the Loved One was Caucasian? (40). And according to the hostess, the color of the Loved One s skin is important because Whisper Glades is a restricted park. The Dreamer has made that rule for the sake of the Waiting Ones. In their time of trial they prefer to be with their own people (40). Waugh uses such blunt language to capture the absurdity of the concept that people are different species based on skin color. If there were a place that deserved to be less segregated than others, it would be in death. And this point is precisely where Whispering Glades and heaven differ; all are welcome in heaven. And while heaven looks at how one behaves and who one is internally, Whispering Glades cares merely about the exterior of its occupants, an emphasis that comes from the modern day s constant access to media. The strong impact of appearance on society gets its roots from Hollywood and media in general as it develops a society with the preoccupation with how one seems rather than how one truly is. This would happen naturally and over time, but cells do not have the time to wait years, sometimes hundreds, for that to happen. With the use of enzymes, such tasks can take less than a second. This happens because enzymes are catalysts, and are able to speed up reactions. Enzymes, remaining unaffected by the process of catalysis, can continue to perform their function multiple times. However, like most things, breaking and making bonds require energy. This energy causes substrates to change. The transition state is when substrate bonds are able to break up by themselves. Enzymes help bringing substrates to the transition stage by slowing down ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not enough salt changes the shape of functions due to the incredibly strong attractions between enzymes. On the other hand, too much salt causes enzymes to denature. Hydrogen peroxide is highly reactive and forms during metabolic reactions that require oxygen. It can also form oxygen radicals that oxidize organic molecules and are potentially quite harmful. The enzyme catalase is able to neutralize hydrogen peroxide and protects the molecules that are important for life. Catalase is an example of an anti oxidant, aptly named due to its ability to interfere with the oxidization of other molecules which causes damage to cells. Catalase is a peroxisome enzyme and has four hemes. Hemes are small organic compounds with an iron atom at the center. Catalase has to hold hydrogen peroxide, its substrate, close to a heme. The molecule is then able to break up by two hydrogen peroxide molecules alternately oxidizing and reducing the iron atom within the heme. The purpose of testing the temperature on the rate of enzyme activity is to examine how different temperature might increase or decrease activity. Adding energy in the form of heat to the enzyme will most likely increase activity because more reactions are able to take place. However, cooling down the enzyme and thus removing energy will most likely slow down the process because there is less energy available for the enzymes to utilize for reactions. However, ... • 19. Environmental Effects Of Cadmium Environmental pollutants are becoming increasingly present throughout the world as industrial progress has expanded in countries like China. Among these environmental pollutants, Cadmium has been characterized as the most dangerous heavy metal ion because of its resiliency and numerous negative health effects (Kermani et. Al., 2010). Growing dependence on chemical fertilizer, wastewater irrigation, and uncontrolled discharge of industrial waste from activities, such as mining and smelting, has led to large amounts of Cadmium in soil (Nazar et. Al., 2012). Cadmium has adverse effects on plant life. Cadmium competes with nutrients, such as Calcium, Magnesium, and Iron, that are also trying to get through the cell membranes of plant cells (Nazar et. Al., 2012). Specifically, disruption of the Calcium channel in plants with Cadmium can lead to an altered plant water relationship, causing, stomatal closure in many plants, leading to lower transpiration rate, and inhibitions of photosynthesis through an adverse effect on chlorophyll metabolism. (Nazar et. Al., 2012) Because Cadmium replaces the space that plants have for Calcium, the plants overall function is worsened because it changes the plant s relationship with water, causing the stomata, which oversee a plants respiratory function, to close. The plants then begin to transpire less and photosynthesis in plants decrease as a result. Decreased photosynthesis leads to growth inhibition of plants and an imbalance in ... This lesson encourages students to discover their academic and personal strengths, their skillsets, and their interests. Students then take those concepts and apply them to career exploration. They are able to link their strengths, preferences, and abilities to potential future career paths. Some of the specific aspects of career development that I addressed include applying planning and career exploration in setting and obtaining lifelong career goals, applying necessary skills for career readiness and success, and teaching students where and how to obtain information about post secondary options. In this lesson students are encouraged to apply decision making skills to place different careers into the appropriate career fields. In doing so, they are also encouraged to begin thinking about careers that are of interest to them and what career goals they have for themselves. They will be given resources in order to continue career exploration outside of the classroom. While I do not expect sixth graders to fully decide their career path, it is my firm belief that it is never too early to get students thinking about careers and having them set goals in order to obtain the career and future that they desire. • 32. Adolescent Learning Practices And Preferences This assignment has two folds. It first attempts to capture and narrate stories of adolescent learning practices and preferences in a middle school setting. Then, it analyses and interprets the narrative through the lens of literatures. The interpretation also can be supported or confuted by the perspectives gained from my interactions with adolescents and their teachers during my recent placement. As Pendergast (2009) points out, there is a lack of emphasis on middle school education that results in ineffective teaching and learning approaches. So, in recognising a need for every middle school teacher to develop a better knowledge and understanding of adolescents, this qualitative exercise becomes a salient point of my teacher training. Adolescents are often seen as a risk or perceived to be at risk (Carrington, 2006). Like many, I, too, have acquired such perception. Therefore, there is an urgency to replace the old with new fresh perspectives. In order to engage adolescents, a teacher must explore various learning needs based on the characteristics of adolescents. • 36. Don Delillo s White Noise Why is naming things so hard for humans to do? Why does it matter? What difference does a name make? These are all questions raised in Don DeLillo s White Noise. This novel teaches how to deal with these uncertainties in many different ways. This postmodern take on the human race and their reality of the world discusses why the naming of things has such a high impact. DeLillo suggests this matters because it all comes back to simulacrum, perspective, and questions the reality of these things due to all the different perspectives. The truth is reality does not change, reality stays the same; it is simply perspective. Ultimately White Noise allows readers to ponder on the problem of naming and evaluate solutions to the world of uncertainty. DeLillo uses this postmodern setting to argue that the problem is not the name of something, it is how the name effects people s perspective and reminds them that despite the name there is no access to the absolute truth. Our attitudes and values are shaped early on by those who around us most frequently and hold positions of power in our estimation. As children we both listen and observe the adults around us. Without realizing it, we often take on their points of view until we are challenged. Moreover, few people realize that their deeply held beliefs actually exist because of someone else. Most people are not challenged on their beliefs and values, instead we tend to congregate with other people who share and reinforce our values. When we are challenged and even presented with empirical facts that run counter to our beliefs we are hesitant to change our minds. This is called belief perseverance. Humans use inductive reasoning to support their cognitive bias. Most humans do this. It is hard to simply let of an ingrained notion and take a counter stance. Since facts and information to the contrary does not work effectively to change people s minds, the only option is repeated exposure and experience with the irrefutable facts. • 45. Descriptive Essay On A Lake House My skin soaking up the sun, the water splashing at my face, and the constant wind in my hair are my favorite little things while on the boat at my lake house. As I sit on the boat I take in every stress free moment it offers to me. My lake house is on Shafer Lake, which is right in the middle of a small town Monon, Indiana. Aside from living in Italy, this is where I picture my life after retirement. Lake time is always a great time. Dad says. Lake time is always a great time. My little brother repeats after him. July 5th 2016 was a very hot and very sunny day, it felt as if my skin was being cooked. My family and I went on the boat and hung out by the sand bar all morning. It s mixed emotions being on the tube, considering the boat is going about 35 MPH, I m on a tube in the wavy lake, connected by a rope to the boat. It s hard to focus on one emotion. I m excited and terrified all in one. Although we picture lake time always being a great time, that July day was not a great time. I remember feeling as if our bodies were giving in to the sun so we decided to call it a day around 2 PM. We approached the pier to pull the boat in. Our dock is a parking space in water surrounded by a wooden pier on the sides and the front. To prevent the boat hitting from the sides, my brothers, my mom, and I will grab the sides of the pier as my dad steers it. Jess wake up! My mother shouted in hopes I wake up to help dock the boat. • 49. The Expansion Of The Antebellum Period Prior to the Antebellum Period, the United States began to expand its influence to the Midwest. Although there were conflicts regarding the state of slavery, the expansion of land helped the people of America attain cheaper and larger plots of land out west. Due to the fact that more land was available within the United States, immigrants had the desire to emigrate to America and establish new ways of life. Since both the Irish and the Germans brought their own ideologies with them, conflicts arose with them and the Americans, which made the American s fear change. Along with immigrants came the European Romantic Movement. This movement emphasized the ideas of man s perfection and the metaphysical and spiritual side of humans. Although, during the Antebellum Period, the American s fear of change led to reforms involving the immigration of others and, ultimately, the Second Great Awakening, but the Romantic Movement, brought from Europe by the said immigrants, also led to reforms such as abolitionism and feminism within American society. With the immigration of Europeans, primarily the Irish, came conflicting views that created tension within the United States and caused Americans to fear change and reform their society. Due to these tensions, a new ideology, nativism, became popular. Nativism, an anti immigration ideology, emphasized the idea that immigrants were only liked for their ability to serve and listen to what their priests told them to. Also, nativism stated ... • 50. The Theory Of Plate Tectonics Plate Tectonics The theory of plate tectonics has been explored throughout history because of similarities in coastal boundaries and other evidence found such as fossil records, geometric fit, mountain episodes, the paleoclimate observed, information about the ocean floor, ancient magnetism, distribution of volcanoes and earthquakes and heat flow from the earths core. There were early theories from Wegner s continental drift which lacked an explanation for the mechanism that drove the continents apart, to Wilson s more complete theory of the cyclical opening and closing of the ocean basins due to movement of the earth s plates. The theory explains how today s continents were once a large supercontinent that slowly drifted to their present positions and will again form one giant continent via collision. According to the Natego film Colliding Continents, the landmasses are liable to drift back to each other through plate tectonic activity. One of the few places on Earth where one can see continents being pushed apart is in Iceland, where the mid Atlantic ridge in shows above the surface and shows how oceanic crust is made, the ridge in Iceland is almost three miles wide on one side you have the Eurasian plate and the other is the American plate. This rifts grows forming new rock and causes the continents further apart widening the Atlantic Ocean moving about an inch a year. The theory suggests that we go through cycles of dispersion and collision over a 100 million year ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
