The Use Of Animals For Research Developments Have Been A...
The use of animals for research developments have been a part of scientific history from the days of
Aristotle and Erasistratus who experimented with animals. (Scutti, 2013) These earlier researchers
conducted experiments to better understand the anatomy of living things and was not until the twelfth
century when an Arab physician reinvented the idea of animal research when suggesting using animals
as a way to test surgical procedures before using on humans. (Scutti, 2013) Animals have had a long
running relationship with mankind either in the wild, on pastures, or medical research labs. If this
relationship has been used for centuries now then why does there seem to be a debate on the ethics of
this practice. Within the past years, researchers have received an extreme amount of pressure from
animal protection and rights groups about the ethics behind this type of experimentation. Countries
legislation has become a part of the fight for animal rights and passed law to make experimentation
less aggressive. (Scutti, 2013) With the advancements in medicine from animal testing, we begin to
question does an animal s life outweigh that of a human s and is one lab animal worth more than
saving the life of thousands.
On such controversial topics, a spectrum of opinions is created: one side feels animal research is
necessary and helpful towards the advancement of medicine and the other this type of experimentation
is inconclusive and wasteful. Presented in this essay will be

Human Beings are Under Constant Stress
Within the human being there are innumerable, infinitesimal equilibriums put out of whack by the
instances and circumstances we encounter throughout our quotidian life this is the mindset of the
holistic practitioner. Comprised of many complex components working in harmony with one another
the human being is under constant stress. The stress of work, of school, of husbands and wives strain
those mentioned equilibriums to their extent and enact illness directly due to those imbalances. One
way to remedy this imbalance is that of the Holistic approach. Holistic medicine includes:
acupuncture, biofeedback, faith healing, folk medicine, meditation, megavitamin therapy, yoga and
many more. At some point in your life you have heard this phenomenon that is holistic medicine;
people tend to have a strong sense of what holistic means, whether or not they can actually define it.
Holistic medicine is a form of healing that considers the whole person body, mind, spirit, and
emotions in the quest for optimal health and wellness (WebMD). Holistic medicine embodies the
mindset that there are interdependent cogs within each human, if a spoke breaks via physical,
emotional, or spiritual disparity, even if the in smallest instance, the whole system will be
compromised. All parts will be affected and will suffer, and health will be negatively impacted
whether it be illness, ailment, or otherwise. Holistic medicine and healing is practiced widely
throughout the Asian cultures

Comparing and Contrasting Epic of Gilgamesh and the...
Comparing and Contrasting Epic of Gilgamesh and Noah s Ark Many cultures have stories of a great
flood, and probably the best known story is of Noah s Ark. The next most notable is the Sumerian
story of Ut Napishtim found in the Epic of Gilgamesh. In the ancient Babylonian depiction of the
flood story, the god Enlil creates a flood to destroy a noisy mankind that is disturbing his sleep.
Gilgamesh is told by another god, Ea, to build an ark (Monack 1). The Epic of Gilgamesh has broadly
the same structure and plot as Noah s Ark, suggesting the possibility that the Biblical account has
drawn influence from the archaeologically older Sumerian depiction. University professor Alexander
Heidel concludes that these accounts are undeniably ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
on all sides. However the Biblical record depicts the vessel as rectangular, measuring 450 ft. in length,
75 ft. in width, and 45 ft. in height (Fowler 2). Naval Academy graduate and engineer Chuck Missler
maintains that the Biblical dimensions are certainly the more reasonable of the two measurements.
Interestingly enough, he also notes the 6:1 length to width ratio of the Biblical ark is amazingly
similar to that of modern day ships (Fowler 2). More differences between the stories include only
minor details. Noah only invited his family and the animals onboard, but Ut Napishtim invited
additional people such as a pilot and some skilled workmen. Noah s ark landed on Mt. Ararat, but Ut
Napishtim s ark landed on Mt. Nisir, which is only a few 100 miles away. In the Babylonian account,
the water came only in the form of rain; however in the Biblical account water came from beneath the
earth in addition to rain. Noah released a raven once and a dove twice, but Ut Napishtim released three
different birds; a dove, a swallow, and a raven (Comparison). Perhaps the differences were intentional
in order to make the two stories more unique in their own way. Perhaps the differences are simply two
different people s renditioning of the same story. However, despite the minor differences there are
many similarities between the two stories. Indeed the similarities have led some to speculate that these
ancient flood stories were

Tupac Meaning
Interpretation of Life Goes On Tupac Shakur, in some people s opinion, was one of the greatest
rappers that s ever lived. Over a decade ago Tupac wrote an inspirational song named, Life goes on.
Life goes on, seems to be about the streets taking people s lives, and how even though you lose
someone, you can t waste time mourning because that not what the victim would want you to do; the
victim would want you to live your life because they are not coming back. The three stanzas in the
song gives the audience the feeling that Tupac has lost friend through death, jail, and soon his time to
die will come but he would not want any sad faces and tears, just happiness, because life goes on. In
verse one, the speaker seems to be describing walking through the hallways of prison for bail. Breath
Stinking/ in my jaws, implies that the artist had just awaken, was rushed, and didn t have any time to
brush his teeth because it was time for him to leave. After leaving the prison it seems as if he was
surrounded by loud people he knows that s filled with excitement because of his release from prison.

When Ruth Is Dead At The End Of Chapter Six
The first death in this book is Ruth s; Kathy casually mentions that Ruth is dead at the end of chapter
six. However, it is not until chapter nineteen that Kathy reveals any details about Ruth s death:
[It] was three days after her second donation, when they finally let me in to see her in the small hours
of the morning. She was in a room by herself, and it looked like they d done everything they could for
her . . . Now I took one glance at her in that hospital bed under the dull light and recognized the look
on her face, which I d seen on donors often enough before. It was like she was willing her eyes to see
right insider herself, so she could patrol and marshal all the better the separate areas of pain in her
body . . . She was, strictly speaking, still conscious, but she wasn t accessible to me as I stood there
beside her metal bed. (Ishiguro, 235 236)
Kathy realizes that Ruth is dying and that she cannot be saved, and she just accepts it. She does not try
to fight it; she simply stays with Ruth until she is forced to leave. Even though their friendship was
complicated, they were still friends and had become closer near the end. The language Ishiguro uses to
describe Ruth from Kathy s perspective is simple and honest; nothing about the language suggests any
resistance against her death. When it is time for Tommy, Kathy s boyfriend, to complete, there is again
no resistance. Kathy and Tommy had tried to get a deferral, but they simply give up when they
discovered that

Defeat Of The Plains Indians
Many people associate the beginning of the defeat of the plains Indians with the Fort Laramie Treaty
signed in 1868, yet ever since the Spanish set sail for the New World in 1492, European and American
Powers tried to push out the natives. Throughout 1870 1900, better known as the Gilded Age, the
federal government attempted, but failed to confine Native Americans to specific areas. The plains
Indians were ultimately defeated because of the governments willingness to deploy military forces,
construction of railroads and buildings on Indian settlements, and most impacted by the butchery of
the buffalo, whom the Indians maintained every aspect of their life around.
The U.S Army and the desire for warfare with the Indians was one of the reasons ... Show more

Army and the forceful action used to confine the natives, the construction on Indian land, and the
massive slaughter of the buffalo which the Indians relied on in every aspect of life. The mistreatment
of the Native Americans has been going on for hundreds of years, way before the Gold Rush began.
The American government has taken land that they are unable to return to this day. They have
deprived the plains Indians of their culture and freedom. Immigration from other countries was at its
peak, but America still wasn t able to call people, that had resided in the United States for many years,
citizens. Even the Native American s, that had lived on the continent before it was even discovered,
were denied citizenship unless they were Anglo Saxon Protestant. To this day, many look at the
Indians as a joke; The Seminoles as The Tribe that Purchased A Billion Dollar Business. Children are
being taught about friendship between the American Settlers and the Natives, they are being lied to.
The upcoming generations won t understand the horrors of unnecessary warfare against innocent
people, and they will only know to take what they want, even if it isn t rightfully theirs. America as a
nation has to be stopped from draping curtains over the defeat of the plains Indians: their wiping out
of an entire people, just as they did to the

Characteristics Of Captivity Narratives
Unreliability in Captivity Narratives
Captivity narratives have fascinated readers since the end of the 1600s, inducing feelings of empathy,
shock and even inspiration to the audiences. These narratives tend to be autobiographic, involving
many different elements including history, faith, and even a bit of fiction. Unfortunately, these
narratives are not completely dependable. Captivity narratives are full of compelling portrayals of
murder, torment, and capture. A major issue that affects the reliability of captivity narratives is the
matter that they are expressed by an influenced narrator and are emotionally charged. In addition to
the prospect of having an unreliable narrator, the driving force behind the publication of a captivity
narrative leads one to doubt how much of the account is factual. Mary Rowlandson s A Narrative of
the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson, illustrates perfectly the idea of an unreliable
narrator.
Mary Rowlandson and her family were captured in February 1676 by the Narragansett Indians who
raided her colony of Lancaster. The captives were forced to travel to the North in what we call New
Hampshire or Vermont. There she stayed for almost three months before being released to her
husband. In 1682, six years after her release, she published her narrative. (Ruben Rolando Almengor
Gonzalez) This narrative soared in popularity eventually becoming the first best seller in America.
Rowlandson monitors her horrendous time in relation

The Influence Of The Gangster Era
The introduction of an 18th Amendment that banned the sale, consumption and manufacturing of
alcohol in America had an unprecedented outcome: the gangster era. This era filled with elaborate
crimes, speakeasies and outlaws continue to have an influence on the America of today. The gangster
era has influenced the legal system of America, American literature (for example The Godfather and
the Jazz Age Mystery Series), and American films (for example Mobsters, Dilinger, and Capone) and
has even become integrated into language. People compare crimes and criminals today to the famous
ones of the eras saying someone is pulling a Bonnie and Clyde scheme as well as some of the slang
from the era (broad, goon, Big House, etc.). You can get a long

The Rain Storm
Kate Chopin s short story The Storm represents lust and passion as emotional detachments from love
as a whole. It is made clear when the passionate affair shared between the the two married characters,
Calixta and Alcee, is just about sensual desiring and craving and not about the kind of intimacy that is
usually shared between two people desperate to live a happy life with one another.
On the contrary, the affair is depicted as a needed liberation from reality that needed to satisfy the
previously sparked lust felt between the characters in the past. The plot creates the atmosphere that the
affair needed to occur to uphold contentment within their separate marriages with their significant
others. Chopin s attitude in this story shows that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sexual scene that occurs begins with a strong image, crashing currents , that describes perfectly
what is happening both outside, with the storm, and inside, with the intense emotions. However, what
is interesting is Chopin s use of the color white. When one thinks of strong passion, one links the color
red to it, but that is not what Chopin uses. Instead, she uses the color white the color linked to purity
and innocence throughout the sexual scene. For example, she mentions how Her white neck and a
glimpse of her full, firm bosom disturbed him powerfully (Chopin), and that The generous abundance
of her passion, without guile or trickery, was like a white flame (Chopin). Describing her passion as a
white flame is quite interesting. Seeing as the color white is linked to purity, this is a strange way of
describing an adulterous

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi s Independence Movement
ABSTRACT Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was an Indian lawyer who became the primary leader of
India s independence movement. Better known as Mahatma Gandhi, he not only led India to
independence from British rule but also inspired movements for civil rights and freedom across the
world in several other countries. Best remembered for his employment of nonviolent means of civil
disobedience, he led Indians in the Dandi Salt March to protest against the British imposed salt tax
and launched the Quit India Movement, a mass protest demanding an orderly British withdrawal from
India. Born into a religious family in British India, he was raised by parents who emphasized on

The Moment Of Conception Of The Zombie
The Moment of Conception For an object to be considered monstrous, it must deviate from its natural
order. It is something unnatural. When a family is enjoying a nice walk in the park and a flesh eating
zombie suddenly approaches them, the zombie is considered monstrous, a monstrosity; a monster.
Zombies do not fit in the normative expectations for human beings. How and when these zombies
deviate from the expectations for humans is the great question. When does a zombie become a
zombie? The moment of conception for a zombie is when they lose their consciousness: the essence of
self. To the modern person, zombies are known as the flesh eating, gory looking corpse of a human
being that is searching the world for brains and bodies. This allusion of what a zombie is comes from
the recent decade s depiction of them in our culture. Movies Shaun of the Dead (2004), Zombieland
(2009), and popular television series The Walking Dead (2010 present) all portray zombies to be a
menace to society. They are aimlessly roaming the world in search of food, which coincidently
happens to be humans, and often killed by humans in fear of their safety. None of these depictions of
zombies tell us what a zombie actually is. A zombie can be defined in countless ways. The author
Robert Kirk looks at zombies in a philosophical manner, allowing us to view them in a way similar to
humans.
Philosophical zombies are exactly like us in all physical respects, right down to the tiniest details,

Identity Confusion Analysis
However, Toni Morrison examines the theme of Identity confusion by analyzing Pecola s struggle
with abuse, racism, and low self esteem. Each struggle exemplifies the concept of being black within a
black world, and blackness in a predominately white world. The author achieves this by using multiple
comparisons of various other characters that sympathize with Pecola, except they have a different
experience in life. This novel was inscribed from a child and an adult s perspective which helps
portray both worlds that exist; a never ending theme of broken identities. How can two people that are
still broken and confused in their identity raise children to be whole and know who they are? Other

Geraldine only allows her son to play in the playground with upper class colored people. Junior s

Pecola into coming to his house to glimpse his kittens; on the contrary, things yield a ruthless turn.
The cat was thrown on Pecola s face by Junior and she got scratched up. Pecola subsequently tries to
leave the house and Junior closes her in. The cat ends up falling to death from the radiator and that is
when Geraldine comes home. Without hesitation, Junior blames the incident on Pecola, thus,
Geraldine calls her a nasty little black bitch and forces her to leave. (92) Life itself can be challenging
at times; however, I could not imagine blacks being treated like this again. Historically, whites have
always been privileged to disrespect blacks, mainly through racism and abuse. Research certifies that
the first appearance of racism may have started in 1688 in Great Britain during the Glorious

Unactuality In Truman Capote s In Cold Blood
It is a fact that Truman Capote published his bestselling novel, In Cold Blood, in January 1966. It is a
fact that Richard Eugene Hickock and Perry Edward Smith confessed to, and were hanged for the
murder of the Clutter family. However, it may not be true that Capote s new form of novel, the
nonfiction novel, is entirely factual as he claims in numerous interviews. Instead Capote uses a
creative interpretation of events to manipulate the characters and to advance the narrative of In Cold
Blood. Despite Capote s desire to write a book that was completely factual, the addition of
information intended to influence the audience, the characterization of Perry, and fabrication of certain
events all lead to a book that is less than factual. The novel, In Cold Blood, is Truman Capote s first
attempt to deviate from the traditional mold of the novel, towards a fact based work of literature, that
he called a nonfiction novel. Capote describes his intent with In Cold Blood to The Saturday Review
when he says that I got the idea of doing a really serious big work it would be precisely like a novel,
with a single difference: every word of it would be true from beginning to end (Voss). In this interview
with The Saturday Review, Capote expresses that In Cold Blood would be written as a record of fact,
juxtaposing the traditional novel that is based on the creation of events and of characters. However, a
novel that is free of the creation of events and certain character traits seems

Characteristics Of A Public And Public Good
A good can either be a private good or public good. Two factors define the characteristics of a private
or public good. The characteristics that define a good are its excludability, the ability the consumption
a good has on future consumption for others, and whether or not its rivalrous, the effect consumption
of a good has on quantity of future consumption. In broad terms, a private good would be excludable
and rivalrous, and a public good would be nonexcludable and nonrivalrous. When we look closer at
public goods we see there are several types.
A Pure public good is defined as having several characteristics. Those characteristics include being a
nonexcludable good and a nonrival good. A nonexcludable good means person A s consumption of a
good does not harm person B s consumption of the good. Person B will still be able to consume the
good. One person s use won t restrict another s. To be a nonrival good is to be a good that can be
consumed by person A without reducing the amount left for person B or others. A nonrival good can
be used over and over again with no additional cost. The defining characteristic of a public good is
that consumption of it by one individual does not actually or potentially reduce the amount available
to be consumed by another individual. (Garvelle and Rees). WiFi can fit into the category quite nicely
on certain circumstances. It can be classified as a social good. A social good is a public good that

Disaster Preparedness Of The United States
The United States experiences a variety of natural disasters throughout the year. Regardless of the
location of a natural disaster in the United States, a program of disaster preparedness, mitigation,
management, and prevention must be followed. Our community is nestled deep in the southeastern
corner of the United States. The south Florida area is bordered by water to the west, south, and east.
We are tested each year with flooding from torrential downpours, wildfires during the dry season, and
the possibility of hurricane landfall. All three of these hazards have the potential for creating great
damage to property, crippling local everyday life, and possibly causing loss of life.
Being prepared for a disaster includes all of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the summer months, south Florida areas experience heavy rain situation that sometimes cause
widespread flooding in some regions. There are four different types of flooding that can occur. First
type of flooding is flash flooding. Flash flooding occurs when the ground becomes saturated with
water that has fallen too quickly to be absorbed. Flash floods can also occur due to a dam or levee
failure. Second type of flooding is river flooding. River flooding occurs more in the northern part of
the state and near lake Okeechobee. Mostly caused by water runoff and dumps into lakes and basins to
the point of overflow. These types of floods are not very prevalent in the south Florida area. Next type
of flooding is urban flooding. Flooding can be magnified in urban areas as paved areas lose their
ability to absorb rainfall. Urbanization increases water runoff as much as two to six times over what
would occur on natural terrain. There s also areal flooding, which results in standing water in low
lying areas and open fields. This stagnant water can serve as a breeding ground for insects and disease.
These last two types of floods are the ones that affect the south Florida area most. Flood mapped areas
in the south Florida area have more enhanced drainage to remove the water. Also, extra pump stations

Characteristics Of Sophie In The Chrysalids
In The Chrysalids there are a lot of scenarios in the story that are based off of religion. The differences
between people, and the people s beliefs. Waknuk is a town where religion is very strict and abusive
about its beliefs. If anyone or anything were to have a deformity or not considered a definition of God
or a true image of God then that person or thing would be either sacrificed, banished or even burned.
In addition, the Waknuk people are portrayed as very prejudiced people. They do not bother to accept
anyone who looks different or are mentally different even though they have similar characteristics as
the Waknuk people and their personality can be just as normal as the people in Waknuk. Three

A Proposal for Legalizing Industrial Hemp Cultivation

Subject: Proposal for Legalizing Industrial hemp cultivation
The U.S. government, in all its wisdom, treats hemp and marijuana in the same manner. Despite one
offering no psychoactive effects (hemp) and the other offering psychoactive effects (marijuana), both
are against the law. Several states have passed laws to allow the growing of hemp; however the federal
government has stood firm on the ban for decades, and continues to do so. The time has come for the
feds to update obsolete polices and get a dose of reality; it s time to legalize industrial hemp.
Did you know Industrial hemp has been grown on American soil since the beginning of this great
nation? Did you also know that it s only been illegal for over 70 years now? So why now is this
amazing resourceful plant illegal? That s one question that still needs to be answered. In this proposal
I will introduce and explain why industrial hemp needs to be made legal to manufacture and cultivate
in the United States of America.
This plant has huge potential and a growing market in the United States. What makes hemp so
valuable? Its uses are virtually endless. But, here s a start:

Plastics

father, but not worth their thoughts when mentioned by Giovanni. They part ways, after telling
Giovanni to finish drinking his Lacryma. Without intentions, Giovanni buys a bouquet at a flower
shop on his way home. Looking down at Beatrice in the garden, loving her beauty. Giovanni is afraid
when flower sap kills a lizard. Giovanni then throws Beatrice the bouquet. She leaves after Giovanni
throwing the bouquet, which starts dying instantly. Giovanni can t stop thinking about Beatrice. One

In the article, Let s Stop Freaking Out About Artificial Intelligence, authors Eric Schmidt and
Sebastian Thrun argue that artificial intelligence s benefits vastly outweigh the consequences, and that
it can be used to improve our everyday lives. The authors argue that when one self driving car makes a
mistake, all of the self driving cars learn from it (Schmidt Thrun 4), implying that self driving cars are
much safer than cars that are driven manually by humans. They claim that since people don t learn
from other people s mistakes, hundreds of thousands of people die every year due to traffic accidents
because of it. With artificial intelligence, those numbers would vastly decrease and would save
hundred of thousands of lives. In addition, the authors take a much more optimistic view of A.I, as
they write about how the AI revolution could free us from menial, repetitive, and mindless work
(Schmidt Thrun 5), meaning that artificial intelligence can do all of the dirty work for us, while we do
the much easier things. Schmidt and Thrun implies that we would be much happier doing the simpler
things and not having to worry about possible injuries during their work. They state that artificial
intelligence can be used to protect us from identity theft with facial recognition and improve our lives
and abilities by harnessing A.I. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

German Secret Weapons of World War II
German Secret Weapons of World War II Introduction German jets had many unique designs during
World War II. These designs have fascinated many airplane designers since the end of the war. My
purpose is not meant to praise the World War II Nazi Air Force, but to show how Germany developed
these airplanes and how they used them. It was fortunate for the Allied powers of World War II and the
world that the U.SA.F. Defeated the axis powers. If the allies had delayed entering the war a few more
months, this would have allowed the Germans enough time to produce large amounts of these jet
airplanes, and the outcome would certainly have been different or too close for comfort. German
technology advances in modern warfare were more of a danger to the world that many would like to
admit. We are very fortunate that Adolf Hitler made the mistakes he made in the design and
production of these advanced airplanes. Adolf Hitler was responsible for making decisions that either
slowed or stopped many of these jet projects. The airplanes Germany had before anyone else were
faster than anything flying at the time. So why didn t Germany and the Axis powers win the war if this
was true? The answer is that Allied powers produced more of the B 24 s the B 17 s and also P 51
Mustangs by the tens of thousands. The Allies also dropped thousands of tons of bombs on German
airplane factories, until they destroyed all of the Nazi manufacturing plants and destroyed the entire
German air force, along

The Drug War along the border of Mexico and the United States is one of the longest coordinated
engagements of law enforcement (who have accepted the aid of the Mexican military) in both
countries history (Winslow, 2015). The history of this unofficial war is extraordinarily complicated;
rife with both political and criminal players, violence, corruption, bad policy, and controversy. Its
importance to America and Mexico cannot be underestimated, especially in its role in legislation, law
enforcement techniques, and public opinion. The sheer size and scope of the war surpasses general
understandings of battlefields and skirmishes; but it is obvious where the most warfare is occurring the
border (Pacheco, 2009). To explore all of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This dramatic operation effectively ended after about 10 days, and was completely abandoned after 20
both public and political outcry from both sides of the border pressured him to ease up. It is here that
one may consider the first shots were fired of the war on drugs, in the Mexican theatre. However,
Nixon was just one step in a progression of drug policy reforms since the early 20th century. But for
the sake of conciseness, many historians consider this a key turning point in Mexico US relations
relating to illegal drugs (Payan, 2006). Over the next two decades, the US carried out swift and largely
effective operations to stop the flow of cocaine from Columbia through the Caribbean (Vance, 2011).
The Columbians, frustrated by the DEA s efforts there, sought a new pathway to the lucrative
American public and they turned to Mexico. Miguel Angle Felix Gallardo an already successful drug
lord who had an efficient system already in place for his heroin and marijuana distribution saw the
prospect and immediately agreed to aid the Columbians. This agreement formed what could be
considered the largest drug cartel Latin America has ever seen, the Guadalajara. Gallardo, a relatively
stable, sane and calm personality, was able to efficiently move these drugs into the US at an alarming

Their Eyes Were Watching God Figurative Language
The tides of love roll in and out, suiting each shore they meet, painting a picture of beautiful sparkling,
although sometimes turbulent waters. For Janie, in Their Eyes Were Watching God, she grasps her life
by the ropes and lets it take her on the adventure of a lifetime, never regretting the love she felt and
the hardships she endured to find that true and untarnished love. Janie marries thrice, each time
drawing nearer to the distant and seemingly unreachable horizon while gaining bits and pieces of self
actualization. The diction, imagery, and figurative language in Zora Neal Hurston s (ADJ) novel
produces a profound effect: allowing the reader to delve into the lives of her characters and walk with
them through their trials and their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Janie reaches far to gain this horizon she seeks, enduring bad marriages and suppression via her
Nanny and first two husbands all to reach her end goal. Janie finds true love in Teacake, her final
husband and realizes love means knowing when to let go of your beloved. When Janie sees it
necessary to shoot her husband to relieve him of his agony, she readily pulls the trigger, knowing her
husband s best interests. In the concluding paragraphs Janie pulled in her horizons like a great fish
net...and draped it over her shoulders, (Hurston 193) able to rest peacefully knowing she lived her life
to its fullest capacity. This metaphor paints the reader a picture of brightly colored horizons stretching
just beyond reach, and how Janie, through perseverance and her strong spirit could pull in her
horizons, just as every person in society strives to do.
FIG LANGUAGE Hurston introduces and concludes her book by utilizing eloquent, metaphorical
figurative language, as she discusses the differences between men s and women s dreams. She
describes the dreams of both men and women, stating that For some [men] they come in with the
tide...for others they sail forever on the horizon . This florid metaphor allows the reader to visualize
the hopes and dreams of men and gives the reader an idea of the overall struggle in society.
Metaphorically, the ships at a distance represent the struggle that many men and women will endure to
reach their dreams.

magic. We see cults where people have worshipped objects in a sacred way but, there are cults that do
the opposite of committing sacred acts, these cults are called negative cults. Negative cults do not
mandate obligations to be carried out by the faithful , they just prohibit certain ways of acting (304).
However, that does not mean they do not follow prohibition; all religions and cults go by taboo. Taboo

The Renaissance in Art Essay
Renaissance Art
When the new upper class movement, Renaissance, occurred in Italy around the 14th century, a
revival of the classical forms originally developed by the ancient Greeks and Romans, an intensified
concern with secular life, and interest in humanism and assertion of the importance of the individual
began. Thus, artists such as Mosaccio and Giotto depicted art that unlike the Middle Ages, showed
emotions, feelings, and bright colors, thus demonstrating the deep concern for naturalism in the
society. Other artists during the Italian Renaissance period such as Giovanni Bellini began to express
their art through secular and religious themes and ideas that were exhibited through landscapes and
portraits. As new styles of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His most famous and recognized work, however, the Birth of Venus uses the combination of
mythology and religion, also a popular humanistic idea adopted from the Greeks.
With the continuous growth of paintings and artists, prestige for art increased dramatically to the point
in which religious aspects were shown through landscapes, portraits, and temperas. This then allowed
the creation of new styles and mathematical input that manifested everyday life with religious aspects.
One such artist was Giovanni Bellini who introduced bright, rich, strong colors into his palette and
landscapes that expressed the happiness, calmness, and prosperity that Italy carried throughout the
Renaissance. These characteristics and styles of paintings subsequently became a popular Venetian
cornerstone. Other important figures in the Italian Renaissance that demonstrated the movement?s
ideas through their ingenious paintings and architectural methods were Pier Della Francesca and Leon
Battista Alberti. Francesca, who was and expert in mathematics, developed the art form of perspective.
Alberti, on the other hand, as an architect developed the pediment which became popular throughout
the entire Renaissance. His monasteries and churches depicted many of the religious ideas, as evident
in one of his famous works, the Santa Maria Novella. All in all, the use of the common religious
themes such as the annunciation, adoration, Crucifixion, and the popular Madonna

be so brilliant. Plus the scenes I have seen people do never sound natural: too many cryptic pauses and
unfinished thoughts, not enough contractions, and Mamet s penchant for saying do you see? instead of
you know? . Anyway Oleanna was a pleasant surprise because in reading the text it occurred to me
that the language could be made to sound more natural if the actor works at it. So maybe what I have

What Predictive Modeling Situations Would The Aic...
3 In what predictive modelling situations would the AIC statistic be the most appropriate choice, and
why?
Akaike (1973) adopted the Kullback Leibler definition of information, I(f;g) , as a natural measure of
discrepancy, or asymmetrical distance, between a true model, f(y), and a proposed model, g(y|β),
where β is a vector of parameters. Based on large sample theory, Akaike derived an estimator for of
the I(f;g) general form 〖AIC〗_m = 2 Ln (L_m ) + 2 〖.k〗_m where Lm is the sample log
likelihood for the mth of M alternative models and km is the number of independent parameters
estimated for the mth model. The term, , may be viewed as a penalty for over parameterization. A
min(AIC) strategy is used for selecting among two or more competing models. In a general sense, the
model for which AICm is smallest represents the best approximation to the true model. That is, it is
the model with the smallest expected loss of information when MLE s replace true parametric values
in the model. In practice, the model satisfying the min(AIC) criterion may or may not be (and
probably is not) the true model since there is no way of knowing whether the true model is included
among those being compared. Thus, for example, in comparing four hierarchic linear regression
models, AIC is computed for each model and the min(AIC) criterion is applied to select the single best
model.
The choices for the selection criterion have several model fit statistics that are useful for model

Essay On Catalyst Leader
When someone says leader people think many things and how that will affect them and how they will
do their job. However, a catalyst leader is someone that looks into things, makes a wise, smart, and
well rounded decision, and then acts on it. The decision is fair and accurate for the team that is
involved. The leader is acting on the behalf of the team and what is best for them as well as
themselves. I can see from the book that a good leader always puts themselves last and their team first.
This is typically what good leaders do in all situations. Christian leaders want what is best for
everyone under them and will do whatever it takes to make God happy while assisting his workers in
the workplace. The people need to be happy for things to grow, develop, and progress. When all this is
complete the real work can begin and people can learn new things.
Throughout the book The Catalyst Leader there are eight key factors that are stressed for the readers to

  • 2. The Use Of Animals For Research Developments Have Been A... The use of animals for research developments have been a part of scientific history from the days of Aristotle and Erasistratus who experimented with animals. (Scutti, 2013) These earlier researchers conducted experiments to better understand the anatomy of living things and was not until the twelfth century when an Arab physician reinvented the idea of animal research when suggesting using animals as a way to test surgical procedures before using on humans. (Scutti, 2013) Animals have had a long running relationship with mankind either in the wild, on pastures, or medical research labs. If this relationship has been used for centuries now then why does there seem to be a debate on the ethics of this practice. Within the past years, researchers have received an extreme amount of pressure from animal protection and rights groups about the ethics behind this type of experimentation. Countries legislation has become a part of the fight for animal rights and passed law to make experimentation less aggressive. (Scutti, 2013) With the advancements in medicine from animal testing, we begin to question does an animal s life outweigh that of a human s and is one lab animal worth more than saving the life of thousands. On such controversial topics, a spectrum of opinions is created: one side feels animal research is necessary and helpful towards the advancement of medicine and the other this type of experimentation is inconclusive and wasteful. • 3. Human Beings are Under Constant Stress Within the human being there are innumerable, infinitesimal equilibriums put out of whack by the instances and circumstances we encounter throughout our quotidian life this is the mindset of the holistic practitioner. Comprised of many complex components working in harmony with one another the human being is under constant stress. The stress of work, of school, of husbands and wives strain those mentioned equilibriums to their extent and enact illness directly due to those imbalances. One way to remedy this imbalance is that of the Holistic approach. Holistic medicine includes: acupuncture, biofeedback, faith healing, folk medicine, meditation, megavitamin therapy, yoga and many more. At some point in your life you have heard this phenomenon that is holistic medicine; people tend to have a strong sense of what holistic means, whether or not they can actually define it. Holistic medicine is a form of healing that considers the whole person body, mind, spirit, and emotions in the quest for optimal health and wellness (WebMD). Holistic medicine embodies the mindset that there are interdependent cogs within each human, if a spoke breaks via physical, emotional, or spiritual disparity, even if the in smallest instance, the whole system will be compromised. All parts will be affected and will suffer, and health will be negatively impacted whether it be illness, ailment, or otherwise. Holistic medicine and healing is practiced widely throughout the Asian cultures ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Comparing and Contrasting Epic of Gilgamesh and the... Comparing and Contrasting Epic of Gilgamesh and Noah s Ark Many cultures have stories of a great flood, and probably the best known story is of Noah s Ark. The next most notable is the Sumerian story of Ut Napishtim found in the Epic of Gilgamesh. In the ancient Babylonian depiction of the flood story, the god Enlil creates a flood to destroy a noisy mankind that is disturbing his sleep. Gilgamesh is told by another god, Ea, to build an ark (Monack 1). The Epic of Gilgamesh has broadly the same structure and plot as Noah s Ark, suggesting the possibility that the Biblical account has drawn influence from the archaeologically older Sumerian depiction. University professor Alexander Heidel concludes that these accounts are undeniably ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... on all sides. However the Biblical record depicts the vessel as rectangular, measuring 450 ft. in length, 75 ft. in width, and 45 ft. in height (Fowler 2). Naval Academy graduate and engineer Chuck Missler maintains that the Biblical dimensions are certainly the more reasonable of the two measurements. Interestingly enough, he also notes the 6:1 length to width ratio of the Biblical ark is amazingly similar to that of modern day ships (Fowler 2). More differences between the stories include only minor details. Noah only invited his family and the animals onboard, but Ut Napishtim invited additional people such as a pilot and some skilled workmen. Noah s ark landed on Mt. Ararat, but Ut Napishtim s ark landed on Mt. Nisir, which is only a few 100 miles away. In the Babylonian account, the water came only in the form of rain; however in the Biblical account water came from beneath the earth in addition to rain. Noah released a raven once and a dove twice, but Ut Napishtim released three different birds; a dove, a swallow, and a raven (Comparison). Perhaps the differences were intentional in order to make the two stories more unique in their own way. Perhaps the differences are simply two different people s renditioning of the same story. However, despite the minor differences there are many similarities between the two stories. Indeed the similarities have led some to speculate that these ancient flood stories were ... • 5. Tupac Meaning Interpretation of Life Goes On Tupac Shakur, in some people s opinion, was one of the greatest rappers that s ever lived. Over a decade ago Tupac wrote an inspirational song named, Life goes on. Life goes on, seems to be about the streets taking people s lives, and how even though you lose someone, you can t waste time mourning because that not what the victim would want you to do; the victim would want you to live your life because they are not coming back. The three stanzas in the song gives the audience the feeling that Tupac has lost friend through death, jail, and soon his time to die will come but he would not want any sad faces and tears, just happiness, because life goes on. In verse one, the speaker seems to be describing walking through the hallways of prison for bail. Breath Stinking/ in my jaws, implies that the artist had just awaken, was rushed, and didn t have any time to brush his teeth because it was time for him to leave. After leaving the prison it seems as if he was surrounded by loud people he knows that s filled with excitement because of his release from prison. • 6. When Ruth Is Dead At The End Of Chapter Six The first death in this book is Ruth s; Kathy casually mentions that Ruth is dead at the end of chapter six. However, it is not until chapter nineteen that Kathy reveals any details about Ruth s death: [It] was three days after her second donation, when they finally let me in to see her in the small hours of the morning. She was in a room by herself, and it looked like they d done everything they could for her . . . Now I took one glance at her in that hospital bed under the dull light and recognized the look on her face, which I d seen on donors often enough before. It was like she was willing her eyes to see right insider herself, so she could patrol and marshal all the better the separate areas of pain in her body . . . She was, strictly speaking, still conscious, but she wasn t accessible to me as I stood there beside her metal bed. (Ishiguro, 235 236) Kathy realizes that Ruth is dying and that she cannot be saved, and she just accepts it. She does not try to fight it; she simply stays with Ruth until she is forced to leave. Even though their friendship was complicated, they were still friends and had become closer near the end. The language Ishiguro uses to describe Ruth from Kathy s perspective is simple and honest; nothing about the language suggests any resistance against her death. When it is time for Tommy, Kathy s boyfriend, to complete, there is again no resistance. Kathy and Tommy had tried to get a deferral, but they simply give up when they discovered that ... • 7. Defeat Of The Plains Indians Many people associate the beginning of the defeat of the plains Indians with the Fort Laramie Treaty signed in 1868, yet ever since the Spanish set sail for the New World in 1492, European and American Powers tried to push out the natives. Throughout 1870 1900, better known as the Gilded Age, the federal government attempted, but failed to confine Native Americans to specific areas. The plains Indians were ultimately defeated because of the governments willingness to deploy military forces, construction of railroads and buildings on Indian settlements, and most impacted by the butchery of the buffalo, whom the Indians maintained every aspect of their life around. Army and the forceful action used to confine the natives, the construction on Indian land, and the massive slaughter of the buffalo which the Indians relied on in every aspect of life. The mistreatment of the Native Americans has been going on for hundreds of years, way before the Gold Rush began. The American government has taken land that they are unable to return to this day. They have deprived the plains Indians of their culture and freedom. Immigration from other countries was at its peak, but America still wasn t able to call people, that had resided in the United States for many years, citizens. Even the Native American s, that had lived on the continent before it was even discovered, were denied citizenship unless they were Anglo Saxon Protestant. To this day, many look at the Indians as a joke; The Seminoles as The Tribe that Purchased A Billion Dollar Business. Children are being taught about friendship between the American Settlers and the Natives, they are being lied to. The upcoming generations won t understand the horrors of unnecessary warfare against innocent people, and they will only know to take what they want, even if it isn t rightfully theirs. • 8. Characteristics Of Captivity Narratives Unreliability in Captivity Narratives Captivity narratives have fascinated readers since the end of the 1600s, inducing feelings of empathy, shock and even inspiration to the audiences. These narratives tend to be autobiographic, involving many different elements including history, faith, and even a bit of fiction. Unfortunately, these narratives are not completely dependable. Captivity narratives are full of compelling portrayals of murder, torment, and capture. A major issue that affects the reliability of captivity narratives is the matter that they are expressed by an influenced narrator and are emotionally charged. In addition to the prospect of having an unreliable narrator, the driving force behind the publication of a captivity narrative leads one to doubt how much of the account is factual. Mary Rowlandson s A Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson, illustrates perfectly the idea of an unreliable narrator. Mary Rowlandson and her family were captured in February 1676 by the Narragansett Indians who raided her colony of Lancaster. The captives were forced to travel to the North in what we call New Hampshire or Vermont. There she stayed for almost three months before being released to her husband. In 1682, six years after her release, she published her narrative. (Ruben Rolando Almengor Gonzalez) This narrative soared in popularity eventually becoming the first best seller in America. The Influence Of The Gangster Era The introduction of an 18th Amendment that banned the sale, consumption and manufacturing of alcohol in America had an unprecedented outcome: the gangster era. The gangster era has influenced the legal system of America, American literature (for example The Godfather and the Jazz Age Mystery Series), and American films (for example Mobsters, Dilinger, and Capone) and has even become integrated into language. • 10. The Rain Storm Kate Chopin s short story The Storm represents lust and passion as emotional detachments from love as a whole. It is made clear when the passionate affair shared between the the two married characters, Calixta and Alcee, is just about sensual desiring and craving and not about the kind of intimacy that is usually shared between two people desperate to live a happy life with one another. On the contrary, the affair is depicted as a needed liberation from reality that needed to satisfy the previously sparked lust felt between the characters in the past. The plot creates the atmosphere that the affair needed to occur to uphold contentment within their separate marriages with their significant others. Chopin s attitude in this story shows that ... Instead, she uses the color white the color linked to purity and innocence throughout the sexual scene. For example, she mentions how Her white neck and a glimpse of her full, firm bosom disturbed him powerfully (Chopin), and that The generous abundance of her passion, without guile or trickery, was like a white flame (Chopin). Describing her passion as a white flame is quite interesting. Seeing as the color white is linked to purity, this is a strange way of describing an adulterous ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. The Moment Of Conception Of The Zombie The Moment of Conception For an object to be considered monstrous, it must deviate from its natural order. It is something unnatural. When a family is enjoying a nice walk in the park and a flesh eating zombie suddenly approaches them, the zombie is considered monstrous, a monstrosity; a monster. Zombies do not fit in the normative expectations for human beings. How and when these zombies deviate from the expectations for humans is the great question. When does a zombie become a zombie? The moment of conception for a zombie is when they lose their consciousness: the essence of self. To the modern person, zombies are known as the flesh eating, gory looking corpse of a human being that is searching the world for brains and bodies. This allusion of what a zombie is comes from the recent decade s depiction of them in our culture. Movies Shaun of the Dead (2004), Zombieland (2009), and popular television series The Walking Dead (2010 present) all portray zombies to be a menace to society. They are aimlessly roaming the world in search of food, which coincidently happens to be humans, and often killed by humans in fear of their safety. None of these depictions of zombies tell us what a zombie actually is. A zombie can be defined in countless ways. The author Robert Kirk looks at zombies in a philosophical manner, allowing us to view them in a way similar to humans. Each struggle exemplifies the concept of being black within a black world, and blackness in a predominately white world. The author achieves this by using multiple comparisons of various other characters that sympathize with Pecola, except they have a different experience in life. This novel was inscribed from a child and an adult s perspective which helps portray both worlds that exist; a never ending theme of broken identities. • 19. Unactuality In Truman Capote s In Cold Blood It is a fact that Truman Capote published his bestselling novel, In Cold Blood, in January 1966. It is a fact that Richard Eugene Hickock and Perry Edward Smith confessed to, and were hanged for the murder of the Clutter family. However, it may not be true that Capote s new form of novel, the nonfiction novel, is entirely factual as he claims in numerous interviews. Instead Capote uses a creative interpretation of events to manipulate the characters and to advance the narrative of In Cold Blood. Despite Capote s desire to write a book that was completely factual, the addition of information intended to influence the audience, the characterization of Perry, and fabrication of certain events all lead to a book that is less than factual. The novel, In Cold Blood, is Truman Capote s first attempt to deviate from the traditional mold of the novel, towards a fact based work of literature, that he called a nonfiction novel. Capote describes his intent with In Cold Blood to The Saturday Review when he says that I got the idea of doing a really serious big work it would be precisely like a novel, with a single difference: every word of it would be true from beginning to end (Voss). In this interview with The Saturday Review, Capote expresses that In Cold Blood would be written as a record of fact, juxtaposing the traditional novel that is based on the creation of events and of characters. During the summer months, south Florida areas experience heavy rain situation that sometimes cause widespread flooding in some regions. There are four different types of flooding that can occur. First type of flooding is flash flooding. Flash flooding occurs when the ground becomes saturated with water that has fallen too quickly to be absorbed. Flash floods can also occur due to a dam or levee failure. Second type of flooding is river flooding. River flooding occurs more in the northern part of the state and near lake Okeechobee. Mostly caused by water runoff and dumps into lakes and basins to the point of overflow. These types of floods are not very prevalent in the south Florida area. Next type of flooding is urban flooding. Flooding can be magnified in urban areas as paved areas lose their ability to absorb rainfall. Urbanization increases water runoff as much as two to six times over what would occur on natural terrain. There s also areal flooding, which results in standing water in low lying areas and open fields. This stagnant water can serve as a breeding ground for insects and disease. These last two types of floods are the ones that affect the south Florida area most. Flood mapped areas in the south Florida area have more enhanced drainage to remove the water. In the article, Let s Stop Freaking Out About Artificial Intelligence, authors Eric Schmidt and Sebastian Thrun argue that artificial intelligence s benefits vastly outweigh the consequences, and that it can be used to improve our everyday lives. The authors argue that when one self driving car makes a mistake, all of the self driving cars learn from it (Schmidt Thrun 4), implying that self driving cars are much safer than cars that are driven manually by humans. They claim that since people don t learn from other people s mistakes, hundreds of thousands of people die every year due to traffic accidents because of it. • 27. German Secret Weapons of World War II German Secret Weapons of World War II Introduction German jets had many unique designs during World War II. These designs have fascinated many airplane designers since the end of the war. My purpose is not meant to praise the World War II Nazi Air Force, but to show how Germany developed these airplanes and how they used them. It was fortunate for the Allied powers of World War II and the world that the U.SA.F. Defeated the axis powers. If the allies had delayed entering the war a few more months, this would have allowed the Germans enough time to produce large amounts of these jet airplanes, and the outcome would certainly have been different or too close for comfort. German technology advances in modern warfare were more of a danger to the world that many would like to admit. We are very fortunate that Adolf Hitler made the mistakes he made in the design and production of these advanced airplanes. Adolf Hitler was responsible for making decisions that either slowed or stopped many of these jet projects. The airplanes Germany had before anyone else were faster than anything flying at the time. So why didn t Germany and the Axis powers win the war if this was true? The answer is that Allied powers produced more of the B 24 s the B 17 s and also P 51 Mustangs by the tens of thousands. The Allies also dropped thousands of tons of bombs on German airplane factories, until they destroyed all of the Nazi manufacturing plants and destroyed the entire German air force, along ... • 38. What Predictive Modeling Situations Would The Aic... 3 In what predictive modelling situations would the AIC statistic be the most appropriate choice, and why? Akaike (1973) adopted the Kullback Leibler definition of information, I(f;g) , as a natural measure of discrepancy, or asymmetrical distance, between a true model, f(y), and a proposed model, g(y|β), where β is a vector of parameters. Based on large sample theory, Akaike derived an estimator for of the I(f;g) general form 〖AIC〗_m = 2 Ln (L_m ) + 2 〖.k〗_m where Lm is the sample log likelihood for the mth of M alternative models and km is the number of independent parameters estimated for the mth model. The term, , may be viewed as a penalty for over parameterization. A min(AIC) strategy is used for selecting among two or more competing models. In a general sense, the model for which AICm is smallest represents the best approximation to the true model. That is, it is the model with the smallest expected loss of information when MLE s replace true parametric values in the model. In practice, the model satisfying the min(AIC) criterion may or may not be (and probably is not) the true model since there is no way of knowing whether the true model is included among those being compared. Thus, for example, in comparing four hierarchic linear regression models, AIC is computed for each model and the min(AIC) criterion is applied to select the single best model. The choices for the selection criterion have several model fit statistics that are useful for model ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Essay On Catalyst Leader When someone says leader people think many things and how that will affect them and how they will do their job. However, a catalyst leader is someone that looks into things, makes a wise, smart, and well rounded decision, and then acts on it. The decision is fair and accurate for the team that is involved. The leader is acting on the behalf of the team and what is best for them as well as themselves. I can see from the book that a good leader always puts themselves last and their team first. This is typically what good leaders do in all situations.
