Book Review
14th Jan 2015
This book explores the future of details and how details can vary through different aspects of
attempts, fields, aesthetics, narratives, the role of details in the future of architecture itself in terms
of questioning that connection between the digital, the virtual and that of the physical and
applicable. Here we are looking at details as a whole, as a way/ways of practicing architecture.
Laying out all the different possibilities there are for rather justifiable or non justifiable architecture
fast beyond the present time to the near future.
For many years I have questioned these dilemmas; trying to understand how the virtual world and
the coming future of architecture is being translated into real architecture yet conveying its
meaning and approach to the existed world and us, and I mean by us not only architects or students
of architecture but people, inhabitants and users.
This translation is somehow getting lost from the digital through to the commitment of
construction, but maybe the lost and the forgotten can become the interesting and the innovative.
However, this contrast is rather intriguing and clever as it expands our possibilities and energies
through the different ways of applying architecture.
I m not interested in living in a fantasy world ... All my work is still meant to evoke real
architectural spaces. But what interests me is what the world would be like if we were free of
conventional

The Pros And Cons Of Firefighter Grieving
On average there are there are 70 on duty firefighter fatalities in the United States every year. (
Firefighter Fatalities in the United States ). This means that an on duty firefighter dies about
every 5 days. Firefighters have enough stress with their everyday job, then you add losing a
fellow member it puts another level to that stress. Imagine two siblings go out to play basketball
like they do multiple times everyday and one of them end up dying in a freak accident. Horrible
right? It is the same thing with firefighters. They go out on a call. There is a freak accident and
there is not a great outcome. The death of a fellow firefighter is like losing a brother or sister
because you are living with them for almost one third of your life. (Johnson). Firefighters are one
big family. There has always been firefighter fatalities. The questions has always been: How to deal
with one when it happens. What is the right amount of time off for grieving? Should there be
mandatory counseling? Who do we bring in to support the firefighters? The problem is that every

Grieving is a large part of the healing process. When there is any death anyone who is close with
the person grieves. The closer someone is to the person the longer it may take for them to finish the
grieving process. Giving firefighters mandatory time off for grieving is another way to deal with
firefighter fatalities. Failure to provide emotional and psychological support may result in the
resurgence of emotions during stressful situations, which may have a detrimental impact on safe
operations. (Theil, 19). Providing time for grieving is important. The problem is that the fire
department has to run and it cannot run without the firefighters. Giving mandatory grieving works
in theory but in reality there would not be anyone to run the fire

The Disaster Of Space Shuttle Columbia Disaster
Abstract The fragile of complex and large systems, it is argued, is addressed through the
catastrophic events that happened in different fields. This report looks at three serious systemic
failures in engineering and finance domains among the history, including the Disaster of Space
Shuttle Columbia in 2003, the Japanese asset bubble in late 1980s and the explosion of Deepwater
Horizon in 2010. The research draws upon final reports of NASA, related magazines and published
books. Looking through the lenses of those catastrophes, the analysis reveals the tremendous loss
and effect of system failures and gives a lesson to avoid similar disasters in the future.
Space Shuttle Columbia Disaster On February 1st, 2003, Space Shuttle Columbia was destroyed
on its way re entering Earth and all 7 crew members died in that accident. Space Shuttle, different
from the one time used rocket launcher or manned spacecraft, is a partially reusable low earth
orbital spacecraft system operated by the United States National Aeronautics and Space
Administration (NASA). Each space shuttle may bring different missions leave and re enter Earth
several times. Since the final flight of the Space Shuttle Columbia is the 113th flight of the Space
Shuttle Program and Columbia s 28th mission, we will refer Space Shuttle Columbia in its final
flight as STS 107 in the later passage. STS 107, carried equipment and 7 crew members, was
launched on January 16th, 2013 and was expected to stay in space

The Chernobyl Nuclear Power Of Ukraine
Radiation Disperses after Nuclear plant Explosion in Northeast Ukraine On April 26th, 1986,
the disaster at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine dramatically changed the world s
opinion about using nuclear reaction for power. At 1:23am, reactor four exploded, releasing
more than a hundred times the radiation of the bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki
(Rosenberg, 2014). As a result of the incident and producing fire, large amounts of radioactive
material were consequently released into the environment. The accident caused the largest
uncontrolled radioactive release into the environment ever recorded for any civilian operation,
and large quantities of radioactive substances were released into the air for about 10 days. This
caused serious social and economic disruption for large populations in Belarus, Russia and
Ukraine (Chernobyl Accident, 2014). While the radiological impact from this disaster was
minimal outside of Russian and Ukraine, it did bring to light the risks associated with the use of
nuclear energy across the global stage. Over the next sixteen years, world leaders devoted their
attention to conducting reactor safety studies, as well as improving emergency preparedness for
public workers and these industries. Located in Northern Ukraine, the Chernobyl nuclear power
plant is situated just approximately 80 miles north of Kiev, and just over 12 miles south from the
Belarus border. The power plants first reactor became operational in 1977, with the

Personal Reflection On Race And Race In A Classroom
Going into this unit, I was apprehensive. I had never really talked about race in a classroom
setting. I did not know how comfortable I was with talking about race in a large group of people.
After this unit, I felt a ton more comfortable talking about race, which I think is going to be very
helpful going into high school. Although I found the entire unit very interesting and enlightening, I
thought that the words to use activity and documentary episodes one and two were really important
in furthering my understanding of raceand how to talk about race.
Although all of the things that we watched and talked about were very helpful and interesting,
the thing that I found to be the most helpful was the words to use. Staring this unit, one of the
things that I was most worried about was being offensive on accident. I had never really had to
talk about race with a lot of people, and I had no clue why some words were offensive and why
some were not. I was wondering what words had negative connotations, and I was really excited
to learn about what words to use and what words not to use so that I could talk about race more
comfortably. The activity was very helpful. I learned a lot about what words to use and not use,
but what really made this part of the unit incredibly helpful was learning the reasons behind why
words were offensive. For example, I didn t know that some words like European American, or that

St John Case Study Geography
St John is one of the chief islands of the Virgin Islands of the United States in the Caribbean; the
other islands are St Croix, Water Island and St Thomas. St John is 4 miles east of St Thomas,
which has the port city of Charlotte Amalie, the territorial capital, and the only major airport for
the region. Geographically, the US Virgin Islands are part of the Leeward Islands of the Lesser
Antilles and were formerly known as the Danish West Indies until they were sold to the US by
Denmark in 1916. St John, only about twenty square miles in area with a permanent population
of slightly less than 5000, is a resort destination for affluent tourists. The island has no airport of
any kind, relying instead on ferry boats from St Thomas, Tortola, Jost Van Dyke and Virgin
Gorda. Most of the island of St John is protected parkland. The tourist season is from late October
through June; the hot summer months are considered off season. The two major towns are Cruz
Bay, a port on the west side of the island, and Coral Bay, a smaller town on the east side. Both
towns have restaurants and car rentals; each has a market for groceries and sundries.... Show more

Individualism In Brave New World
COMMUNITY, IDENTITY, STABILITY is the motto the citizens of the World State adhere to. The
motto stresses the need for everyone to work together, and discourages individualism. Their society
believes that when an individual feels, the community reels , meaning when an individual begins to
feel real emotion, society behaves in a disorderly manner. When one longs to achieve happiness and
meaningfulness, they may abandon everything they know in the pursuit of discovering their
passion. In this pursuit one may encounter a cultural conflict that is hazardous to themselves and
society, thus creating disorder in the world in which they call their home. In Brave New World,

The Code Of Chivalry In Ancient Rome
Courtesy, generosity, valor, modesty, and many other characteristics were not only used to
classify a knight, but are still used to distinguish a true gentleman. A chivalrous act performed
towards a girl is something we do not see very often anymore. How often do you see a man
opening the car door for his lady? It all started a thousand five hundred years ago when there was
no such thing as chivalry being well known by all people. During these years the Roman Empire
was the cultural and economic center of a good amount of people from around the world.
Suddenly, for a few reasons pertaining to the era, Rome vanished. The tranquility began to be
replaced with violence. Overlords began to put themselves out there, and be a part of the Roman

We see it today as it inspires philosophers, and writers. For example, Morte d Arthur, who was a
knight was cruelly killed and dies. When his body is shown to King Arthur he tells Arthur, he
had been attacked by King Pellinore at the well, and then begged that he should be buried, and
that one of Arthur s knights should avenge his death. (Malory, p.99) Another example would be
Sir Gawain in the Green Knight has to do with the arrival of the Green Knight at King Arthur s
feast. He challenges King Arthur to his game, but Sir Gawain ends up accepting the challenge
instead of the king. Then the Green knights head is cut off. As he picks up the knights head he
tells Sir Gawain that he must meet back with him in one year. This way he can return the
challenge. One year passes, and he comes across a castle on his path. With grace he is let inside
the castle, and is aloud to stay for a few days. The lord of the castle makes up a game. The Lord
has to go hunting and Sir Gawain has to stay in the the castle. They both at the end of the night
have to exchange their winnings. The lord of the castle is the Green Knight. Basically the reason
for the game was to test the chivalry values of Sir Gawain throughout the story and the game he
made up. This was very clever of

Fairy Tales And Modern Stories Bruno Bettelheim Summary
Bruno Bettelheim and Maria Tatar both composed articles on the effects that fairy tales have on
people s lives. Bruno Bettelheim wrote the article Fairy Tales and Modern Stories. In that article
he believes that fairy tales are considered safe stories and provide mental stability to children when
they find themselves in tough situations. When Maria Tatar wrote her article Introduction to Fairy
Tales she also elaborates on his point, but also explains these fairy tales have different effects on
all ages. While both authors agree that fairy tales have mixed effects on people, they also have
many disagreements in between. Both authors do ultimately believe that fairy tales are important in
children s lives, but there are similarities and differences between these two articles that need to be
established. Bettelheim and Tatar both explain that fairy tales have certain effects on children at a
young age, but they way they explain their effects are quite different from each other. Bettelheim
uses his psychological studies to draw a deeper understanding on the effects of these stories. He

Why Adoptees Deserve To Adopt
Imagine growing up not knowing who your parents are, or if they re even alive. Adoptees can
start to feel like they re not good enough for their birth parents. Adoptees deserve to have access

Adoptees feel pain from being adopted because they can feel like their birth parents abandoned

Moral Decision Making In The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe
The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe Essay
We all make choices; sometimes those choices have negative consequences.
By Ehi Oyugbo
Humans are capable of making their own decisions which can often have positive or negative
consequences on both themselves and others. Every day we face decisions about what to eat, what
to wear and how to use our time.
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobeby C.S Lewis tells a story of forgiveness, bravery, self
sacrifice and betrayal while introducing Christian values and lessons on moral conduct. Although
Lewis claims that links to the Christian faith are purely coincidental, the story contains elements of
Christian allegory and many parallels between the scriptures and the life of the Pevensie children.
This essay will analyse both Aslan and Edmund Pevensie s choices throughout the movie and their
influencing factors in order to gain insight into moral decision making.
Set in the1940 s during World War II, The Lion, the Witch and the follows the four English
siblings: Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy Pevensie who are evacuated to the country house of an
old Professor for their safety during the London air raids. There, they find an old cupboard which
has the ability to transport them between the real world and Narnia.
Edmund is the 3rd oldest of the Pevensie children, at the age of 10. Due to his experiences at
school he became a bully, being the conceited, spiteful traitor of the family. One of the many
parallels present in the movie is

Maple Sugaring: How to Make Your Own Maple Syrup
What is your favorite thing for breakfast? French toast? Pancakes? Do you like your steaming stack
of French toast or fluffy pancakes with maple syrup? I thought so. Using your homemade made
maple syrup will make them taste even better. So, why not go back to the basics and make you
own maple syrup. Believe me, it is worth your effort. There are three basic processes involved in

The location of the tree holds great importance to sap collection. Trees in open environments
such as lawns and roadsides have large crowns due to the lack of competition from other trees
and therefore produce more sap that is often sweeter. To compare, a tree in an open setting has
the capability to produce a gallon of maple syrup in one season, but a tree located in a forest can
only produce about a quart of maple syrup in one season. The tree must you desire to tap be at
least 10 inches in diameter when measured 4.5 feet above the ground. Also, trees between 10 and
20 inches should only have one tape, trees 20 to 25 inches can sustain two taps, and trees more
than 25 inches in diameter may have three or more taps. So, after your trees have been selected the
next step is to determine when to tap trees.
In Northeastern United States, sap begins to flow in the spring from late January to early
February. The time between mid February and March is often the most productive period of the
sap collection season. In order for sap to flow, temperatures must rise over 40В° F during the day
time and drop below 32В° F during the nighttime. The sap will also fluctuate throughout the 4 to 6
week season. Early runs are often light, whereas later runs are darker. So now that the site, tree, and
time has been distinguished, the tapping process can be performed.
To begin the process of taping a tree, you

Modern Sensibility In The Tempest By William Shakespeare
Many people argue that among the many literary works composed by William Shakespeare the
tempest treats issues that revolve around reconciliation, forgiveness, and faith in the future
generation. Making use of character Prospero, the Author was able to develop the major themes
of the play that in broader context overthrow the Great chain of being and adopt a modern
sensibility. To be in a position of exposing how Shakespeare addresses the mentioned theme, a
consideration of a thesis statement that attitudes and actions of the main characters in play define
the implication a play has on society. To facilitate an extrapolation of the thesis in consideration,
I will first explain what is meant by the modern sensibility. In connection with artistic or social
activities, modern sensibility refers to an understanding or the ability to decide what is useful and
valuable. In a social setting application, modern sensibility is a way of understanding things to
the social ideals of an earlier age. Making use of character Prospero, the author shows how the
ideologies of an individual assume a different direction after suffering some of the transformation
in the society. As the play kicks off, Prospero s conduct displays a contradiction from the basic
tenets of Christian forgiveness. Depending on his good fortune, the character seizes the opportunity
to take vengeance of his enemy. The passage that presents the central focus of the book is one that
Prospero hopes that his plan to

Arginine Vasopressin And The Plasma Membranes
Water reabsorption is regulated by vasopressin since its release increases the water permeability of
distal tubule and collecting duct cells in the kidney. After stimulation by vasopressin, aquaporin 2
(AQP2) accumulates in the plasma membrane of these target cells on the apical side. Aquaporin 2
is a water channel that allows water to be reabsorbed from the filtrate (urine), returned to the
bloodstream and consequently concentrating urine. To this day, the trafficking mechanisms that
recruit AQP2 to the apical plasma membrane are still not well understood. Recent studies have
shown that cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) may not be required for arginine vasopressin
(AVP) mediated AQP2 membrane targeting, and that other signaling... Show more content on

Since it is the excessive expression followed by apical translocation of the Aquaporin 2 that leads
to congestive heart failure (CHF) and other water imbalance disorders, studying the mechanism of
the pathway that leads to this translocation is important (Yui et al. 2017). Congestive heart failure
in rats, in two separate studies, was shown to be associated with the over accumulation of the
Aquaporin 2 channels in the apical membrane of the distal tubal and collective duct cells in
kidneys which causes the fluid from the filtrate (urine) to be reabsorbed into the
bloodstream(Brond et al., 2013)(Nielson et al. 1997). This results in water retention in tissues in
different parts of the body which leads to congestion in the body. If prolonged, the condition will
lead to congestive heart failure, abbreviated CHF. In a study of this phenomenon, they argued that
vasopressin should normalize water absorption in terms of increasing the permeability of the distal
tubule and collecting duct cells to water (Soren Nielson et al. 1997) and in doing such, would
increase the concentration of AQP2 along the apical membrane of distal tube and collecting ducts
(Soren Nielson et al. 1997). Such was the backbone of credence that let to their study that CHF may

Choosing the Best Tactical Flashlight
h1 Choosing the Best Tactical Flashlight /h1
One of the most important steps in self defense and gun safety is knowing your target s location
and what is beyond and in front of it. Not practicing this vital step can result in severe injury or
even the accidental death of an innocent person. However, it can be extremely difficult to practice
this in a dark area. That is why tactical flashlights have become so popular with gun owners. They
re not only useful for illuminating the area that you re trying to protect, but they can also be so
bright that they can temporarily blind or stun the threat. If you want the best tactical flashlight for
your gun, focus on these important aspects while shopping.
h2 Selecting Type /h2
There are typically two types of tactical flashlights available for nearly any gun. These types are
hunting and military tactical flashlights. Their purposes are quite clear as the hunting flashlight is
more for hunting while the military one is more for combat purposes, but you don t have to focus
on those specific aspects to make your choice. You should weigh the specific features of each
flashlight instead.
h3 Hunting /h3
Tactical flashlights meant for hunting are very straightforward. They re meant to illuminate large
areas and possibly blind or stun certain prey for an easier shot. These flashlights don t have any
other real options besides a changing light color and brightness control, but they re very useful for
hunting purposes. If you re

participation in sport. Specifically, it will investigate whether there is a connection between
particular personality traits. The data for the experiment was collected using a questionnaire. There
were a total of 28 participants in this experiment, with 10 males and 18 females. The participants
had to state their gender and what sport they play. Participants were required to indicate their
response by circling the rating on the scale of 1 to 5 that mostly represents what they thought their
personality traits were. Rating 1 and 2 related to the trait presented on the left and rating 4 and 5
related to the trait presented on the right. All participants were given an anonymous number which
they used to record their results again on the data record sheet with the rest of the classes results. An
average of each participant s results for the Big Five s personality traits was then calculated. The
results showed that there was both a high and weak correlation between the different types of sports
and the different types of personality traits. Introduction: Personality is described as the
characteristics of an individual that account for their unique and consistent patterns of behaviour.
This experiment focuses on investigating the relationship between personality and participation in
sport. The hypothesis of the experiment is there would be a high correlation between the

Analysis Of Oppression By Jimmy Santiago Baca
In the poem Oppression by Jimmy Santiago Baca, the author gives readers an understanding of
oppression, its psychological impact upon endurance, and one s ability to seek emancipation.
Within the first stanza of the poem, Baca defines oppression as being trampled under and
expresses that those who endure oppression are human . Baca continues to explain that the act
oppression [i]s a question of strength of the oppressor, and a question of unshed tears of the
individual enduring oppression. In this stanza, the author is stating that oppression is a fight for
power in which the oppressor uses fear through the form of violence or terror to oppress
individuals, while the individuals being oppressed show their strength by remaining calm

In A Conversation I Had With My Friend Rachel, I Was...
In a conversation I had with my friend Rachel, I was describing how a mutual friend of ours, an
African American girl named Aisha, applied for a job that was hiring pretty much everyone on
the spot, including her Caucasian friends and lighter skinned Asian friends. The hiring event
was for a temporary job for a major event in which the employee had to usher in and direct guests
to their seats. The position required no qualifications aside from being able to legally work in
the U.S., which Aisha was able to do, along with everyone else she had showed up with.
Everyone was hired on the spot and was told |You start next Friday, except for Aisha, who was told

My suspicions were confirmed as she went on to say It s always dumb stuff like people getting
mad over the n word or people making fun of how black people look but it are not that bad
anymore. At this point, I felt my ears start to grow red, a warning sign of the frustration at the
injustice of it all building up inside of me. I took a deep breath and my friend, who is rather
adept at telling when my anger is escalating, said hurriedly with the determination to end my
tirade before it started, It doesn t matter anyway, okay? It didn t happen to you or to me so don t
trip about it. And anyways, it s not like I m racist or anything. I don t see color when I look at
people. Her attempt to extinguish my defense only added more fuel to my fire.
Rachel and I first disagreed on what happened to Aisha and why it happened. As objective as one
can be, I believed there was enough anecdotal evidence to prove that the company did indeed
discriminate and not hire people based on their skin color and their race. Rachel first tried to offer
explanations for the company s

Research Paper On The Ugly Puppy In The Window
The Ugly Puppy in the Window
It s nearly impossible to walk by a pet store and to ignore the cute puppies in the window. Their
paws leaning against the glass, they re begging us to take them home and out of an impulse, some
people occasionally do. Taking a puppy home and introducing it to its new environment is usually
associated with great joy. Their clumsy behavior, wagging tails, and curious noses make everyone
smile, and you don t have to be a dog lover to fall for these big puppy eyes. What a lot of people
don t know when they purchase a puppy at a pet store, however, is that the little dog might have
spent its first few weeks in a large breeding facility where dogs are bred for sole profit, commonly
known as a puppy mill. Although the USDA, the United States Department of Agriculture, has laws
in place to keep these animals safe, the housing and husbandry standards are often barely minimal,
leading to suffering puppies and breeding females with terrible health concerns, as well as
psychological traumas.
The Humane Society of the United States estimates that there are currently around 10,000 puppy

The Rule Of The Republic
With the constitution of 1532 proclaiming Alessandro de Medici hereditary duke the Republic
died, and the Medici family once again rose from the ashes, ending the historical struggle between
the Medicean and Republican governments of the Florentine Renaissance. Duke Alessandro de
Medici s assassination in 1537 and widespread uncertainty surrounding his inexperienced and
young successor, Cosimo de Medici, momentarily rekindled hope for a return of the Republic.
However, not only did Cosimo thwart any hope for the return of the Republic, he went on to rule
Florencefor almost forty years and erect a Grand Dukedom that lasted until the mid 18th century.
Propaganda in the form of art played a huge role in the consolidation of the Medici dukedom
under Cosimo. The political nuances evident in the visual representations commissioned at this
time were vital in the manipulation of the public, the establishment of the Medici as a ducal
power and the subversion of Republican ideals. In January 1537, Cosimo was declared the head of
Florentine government, however, he was still far from the powerful monarch that he is to become.
Those who put Cosimo in power were members of Florentine aristocratic families who planned to
establish an oligarchical government, with the adolescent Cosimo as mere a figurehead. Groups,
exiled in 1532 following the reinstatement of the Medici, assumed the position to seize Florence
aided by the King of France. Simultaneously, troops belonging to the Holy

Who Is Sir Isaac Newton
Sir Isaac Newton was a mathematician and an English scientist. He is considered to be one of the
most intelligent people of all time. He formulated the law of universal gravitation and wrote the
laws of motion. Newton developed a form of calculus and contributed to the study of light.
Isaac Newton was born premature December 25, 1642 in Woolsthorpe, England. His birth was
after the death of his illiterate father and during a time of political unrest in England. Civil wars
were plaguing the area the Isaac Newton was from. When Isaac was three his mother remarried and
left his grandparents to raise him. Eight years later, when Isaac was twelve, his stepfather died. At

This led to the hypotheses that the force that pulled the apple was also responsible for keeping
the Moon in orbit around Earth. This was a unique idea of the era because most people believed
in the theory of the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle (384 322 B.C.), who had said that the
heavenly bodies obeyed different physical laws than objects on Earth. Newton suggested all
bodies responded to the same physical laws, no matter where they were. During his stay on the
farm he also, conducted optical experiments that aided his account of white lights and colors. In
1667 Newton became a fellow of Trinity College at Cambridge University where his incredible
knowledge was first recognized by his mathematics professor, Isaac Barrow, when in 1669, after
resigning from his former job to become entirely committed to theology, recommended that
Newton be his successor. Newton progressed to a mathematic Lucasian professor at the age of
only 27 and continued to do his teaching at Trinity for the duration of his professing career. Sir

A Critical Analysis Of Kim By Rudyard KiplingKim
Fatima V Montano Luna English 100 Professor Timonthy J. Juntilla 30 November 2017 Kim
Research Paper Rudyard Kipling s genuine work was obtusely polemical; however, a genius
radical message overruns his fictional too. Even though the novel Kim, with its lively portrayals
of the geology and societies of India, is by all accounts a festival of the subcontinent and its local
people groups, it, in any case, is organized as an expert radical work. As one with this feeling of
good commitment to force English government on the dull races of the world was the storing up
of financial and worldwide power for England itself, the biggest domain the world had ever
observed. Along these lines, the upkeep of the feeling of good commitment in India was a critical
piece of the belief system behind the monetary welfare of the domain. Kipling makes an extremely
specific depiction of the political condition of India that distinctly disregards the developing clash
between the local Indians and political condition severs to keep up the quality and legitimacy of the
British presence in India. The way the countries justify this practice was because they have found
resources that they didn t have in their countries: like in Africa, India, and parts of Asia. British
found out that these countries had raw materials as well, for instance, some of the sources that were
found in India were cotton, coffee, tea, jute, indigo, and opium. The way British implemented the

The Ethical Ethics Of Nike
We may all have noticed that all kinds of shoes we wear, especially the athletic ones are not
manufactured in their home country. All labels are indicating the producer country (Vietnam,
Bangladesh, Cambodia, etc).Of course many of us don t pay much attention to that. But what if we
knew that these shoes were manufactured literally with the exploitation of people? Nike is one of
the most recognisable organizations worldwide and the top in the athletic industry. As all domestic
companies, Nike manufactured its products in the USA but due to higher labour costs, cooperated
with two Japanese manufacturers until it again turned to countries with even lower labour cost.
Basically Nike never made shoes in the United States, as Japan was considered a country of the
third world and since then Nike was migrating from nation to nation. Globalization allows just this
practice; companies export... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and that argument would be treated by projecting the excuse that this was the anticipated reward

order to avoid any accusations Nike could launch a policy of providing extra benefits to its
workers according to their production (for instance, coupons for buying goods from grocery

the only company that uses this strategy but is the one that got caught and the most recognisable.

European Imperialism Created a Rift with the World
European Imperialism created a rift within the world. European powers saw the use of Imperialism,
as well justified and a mean of spreading their influence and securing their strength. However the
nations which found themselves under rule of an imperialistic power did not share the Europeans
view on the favors they were giving. European nations saw themselves fit to divide the uncivilized
world, almost in a pie like manner, to be placed under their reign. With this came many
mistreatments of indigenous traditions and the people themselves. King Leopold the Second s
imperialistic claim on the Congo, and the European attempts at controlling Chinaboth exemplify the
disaster of Imperialism on the human condition, and the resistance created by the people.
Both Africa and Qing China saw itself under the hungry eye of European powers. Meeting and
arrangements were created, without the native s knowledge, by European power to subdivide
and subjugate these lands for their own purposes, disregarding what the people of these lands
desired. Despotism is a legitimate mode of government in dealing with barbarians, provided the
end be their improvement. (King Leopolds Ghost, 2) The European powers present at the Berlin
Conference of 1884, all saw themselves as a higher state of society, one that possessed a god
granted right to control the lands and the people of the less civilized nations. King Leopold himself
saw to obtain as much land as he pleased by manipulating the other

A New Form Of Punishment And Social Control
As school issues such as school refusal (Lock 1986) and ADHD/ADD (Conrad and Bergey 2014)
began to be recognised as serious social issues, these socially undesired behaviours became
regarded as medical conditions in which require helps from medical experts. Anthropologists
provided critical views of contemporary medicineand scientific understanding of human conditions
and struggles (Kleinman 1996, Lock 1993 and Rhodes 1996). Conrad and Schneither describe the
medicalization of deviance as deviant behaviours that were once defined as immoral, sinful, or
criminal have been given medical meanings. Some say that rehabilitation has replaced punishment,
but in many cases medical treatments have become a new form of punishment and social control
(1992, 1). Rhodes points out our attitude toward medicalization as ...the vulnerability of self, body,
and society to illness engages us, to a greater or lesser extent depending on context and inclination,
in the same problem faced by clinicians: the need to act, to provide useful understanding or in
some other way to contribute to the alleviating suffering (1996, 170). Medical labels for common
anxiety among university students, therefore, are associated a concern that those abnormal
psychological conditions lead to other social issues in Japanese society. Medicalization of

Pierre Elliott Trudeau Bilingualism
Firstly, Pierre Elliott Trudeau was a significant prime minister in the view of the fact that
he strengthened the Canadian nation by improving the role of QuГ©bec in Canada. Trudeau
demonstrated this fact when he promulgated the Official Languages Act in 1969, which
guaranteed official bilingualism in Canadian service where English government workers had to
learn to speak and understand French. By imposing this act, he wished to preserve and improve the
role that the French language had in Canada. His policy of bilingualism was significant
because keeping a country united was a way to help its advancement. Trudeau played an

Analysis Of Luther The Reformer By Kittelson
Martian Luther
The book Luther The Reformer, by James Kittelson focused on the life, death and work of Martian
Luther. Luther came from humble beginnings, born the son of a peasant. From these humble
beginnings, Luther unintentionally created a revolution within the world of the church and an
empire of Protestantism. Luther was not the person to start this spark nor did he want to create a
new religion, rather his idea was to reform the church , but it was his views that were carried
forth and spread. He was simply in the right place at the right time. Luther created a ripple effect
that has shaped religion into what it is today. Whether we realize it or not, these teaching and
views of Luther affect every aspect of our daily lives. The freedoms ... Show more content on

He would evaluate the scriptures by asking the question, what does this mean for me . This is a
really key concept in my mind because it sets the stage for why Luther writes what he writes. He
takes the passages in the Bible and examines how they apply to us and our salvation. He evaluates
what the possible implications are for our salvation. This is the fundamental view of the protestant
church. It is the view that the Protestant church has focused on so intently. It is no longer us being
told what the Bible means, but it is us interpreting it for ourselves. It is this thought that has brought
us to where we are today. It has been both beneficial, in terms that the people now have the Bible in
their language and often in their possession, but it also creates fighting amongst individuals on
what passages may or may not mean. This has led to massive schisms within the church today and

Euthanasia Vs Physician Assisted Suicide
Euthanasia and physician assisted suicide can often get confused with one another and although
both are 2 different practices, they share the same end goal; a peaceful death. Today, only a few
countries in the entire world have legalized the practice of euthanasia, showing just how
controversial the topic has become in recent years. Should someone be able to die just because
they feel like it or should valid reasons be required? And who gets to decide whether an assisted

Adults have been alive for a substantial time longer than the children around them. With this age
comes maturity, the ability to make their own decisions, and having been able to experience life
much more than a sick child likely has. Being diagnosed with a terminal illness then, if not
devastating enough, raises the bar even higher, since one will be painfully aware of how the life
they once knew will be taken from them slowly each day. Eventually, there may be nothing to
look forward to as this disease robs them of who they once were. It is unjust to allow these adults
to become nostalgics of their past life as they suffer through their new one, therefore assisted
suicide should be offered to the patients with terminal and incurable illnesses who are 16 and
older. David Swanton, an author who advocates the right to be able to die with dignity quotes a
man who recently went to battle over his right to euthanasia, he states, Over himself, over his

as he or she wishes implies that each individual does not know what is right for himself or herself.

The Decline in Union Membership in Australia Essay
The Decline in Union Membership in Australia TOPIC The major issue today facing the Australian
trade union movement has been the decline in union density. What have been the causes, and how
have the unions responded to the challenge. Figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics
(ABS) in 2000, show that the decline in Australian union membership continues, despite the efforts
of the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU), to stop the slide. The ABS reports that trade
union membership has dropped to 28 percent of the total workforce, compared to 1992, where
there was 40 percent. (Australian Bureau of Statistics 2000.) Previous ABS findings show that
these recent figures are part of a general trend, with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most important function of a union is to maximise the wages and salaries of its members
(Deery, Plowman, and Walsh, 2000). Why do employees join unions? There are a number of
reasons that an employee may join a union but three major factors are evident. They are;
dissatisfaction with economic aspects of the job; a desire to influence those aspects of the work
environment through union orientated means; and, a belief that the benefits of unionism outweigh
the expected costs (Deery et al, 2000). With the benefits of the objectives of a union evident, why
has Australian unions witnessed a decline in membership? There are many reasons to suggest a
decline in membership, but three main factors stand out. They are; the changing composition of
employment; the casual effects of the business cycle; and, the introduction of the Accord (Deery et
al, 2000). The changing composition of employment relates to the change in the structure of the
workforce. Job growth has become generally greater in those segments of the labour force with
relatively low levels of trade union membership, and a contraction of employment among the more
highly unionised segments of the labour force (Healey, 1995). Most of the employment growth that
occurred in the 80 s and 90 s was confined to the private sector whose union density was
considerably lower to that of the public sector. In addition to that, the constant decline in the
manufacturing industries, where unionisation is high, compared to

Coral Ocean Trade
Summary:
The international trade in corals today mainly focuses on live corals for the marine reef aquarium
trade. The purpose of this study is to understand the overall trends over time (in this instance, 21

Another reason was to assess the impact that increased aquaculture production of corals has on the
trade, and predict how changes in the trade of live corals may impact coral reef ecosystems. Trade
increased over 8% per year between 1990 to mid 2000s, and then decreased by 9% each year. The

Zika Virus And Yellow Fever

and Asian countries. It only recently was discovered to have spread to Brazil and the Western

Dr. Anthony Fauci, head of the National Institutes for Allergies and Infectious Diseases said
there will be some unfortunate cases but nothing like the magnitude that the poor Brazilians are
going through. So far, there have been about 20 cases in the United States, according to Fauci.
All of those patients had traveled abroad to Brazil or other affected areas. The disease has not
spread beyond those travelers. There are several reasons for believing the spread of Zika in the
United States will be much more limited than in Brazil. First, a similar virus, dengue, has never
spread much in the United States. Over the years, nearly all cases have been among travelers, with
transmission within the United States happening only rarely. Experts believe cooler weather is a
big part of the reason, as the mosquitoes that spread viruses such as dengue and Zika prefer hotter
climates. Right now, only the Centers for Control Disease and a handful of state health departments
can test for the virus, which is inefficient and time consuming. Other teams have been working in
various countries to develop a vaccine against

Walt Whitman and Puran Singh are the two great poets belonging to two different cultures.
Whitman inherited western cultural problematic and Puran Singh Eastern Indian and in particular
the Punjabi cultural problematic. These two cultures differ from each other in many ways yet one
finds a cord of identity both thematic and structural between the poetry of Whitman and Puran
Singh. Therefore a comparative study between the works of the two poets is feasible. It is
desirable all the more because Puran Singh himself has boldly acknowledged the influence of
Whitman s Leaves of Grass on him: To him Walt Whitman appears as a poetic prophet whose spirit

This is because mysticism dose not have the same meaning for all readers or critics. F.C. Happold

thinking. In the popular mind it is associated with spiritualism ad clairvoyance, with hypnotism and
even with occultism and magic..... To some it is bound up with visions and revelations. Others use
it as a synonym for other worldliness...... Some would limit its use to that rare state of
consciousness which is found in the contemplative saints

Examples Of The Myth Of Employee Engagement
6 Biggest Myths of Employee Engagement
Employee Engagement has no distinct definition. Many believe its meaning to be synonymous to
terms such as job satisfaction, company loyalty, and retention of talents and potential to over
achieve. All of this and more can only be derived by empowering the employees. Therefore, dear
managers, developing a relationship of trust with your employees is crucial for an organization to
thrive in today s competitive world. This piece will enlighten you regarding the significance of
engaging your employees and how to accomplish this feat by competently negating these myths
mentioned below.
Myth 1: Lack of Employee Engagement does not concern my company The success of any
company is proportional to its employees creative and innovative inputs. Employee engagement is
the key factor that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Simon Sinek s quote, Customers will never love a company until the employees love it first, refutes
this myth. Granted, one on one communication with your employees is important to create a circle
of trust but it is foolish to think it has no impact on your customers. Employees are the
representatives of organizations, they account for the credibility of the company. Customers are
motivated to invest in a company only when they judge for themselves how invested its own
employees are.
Myth 5: There is no secret formula for Employee Engagement Deloitte, however, listed these five
factors as ingredients of this secret formula, meaningful work, hands on management, positive work
environment, growth opportunity and trust in leadership, (Shahid Azhar, 2013). Effective
leadership is essential for a positive outgrowth in terms of acquiring profits, business expansion and
social collaboration. A managerial duty performed meticulously instills vigor in the employees to
exceed the expectations of their superiors. Myth 6: Employee Engagement doesn t have an impact

Women as News Anchors Essay
Women As News Anchors
Women in all careers are striving to gain equality in the work force today, and female television
news anchors are definitely part of the fight. The road to television news anchoring is a rocky one,
where only a few women survive and many fail. Where progress was once thought to have been
made, there aren t many females getting ahead in the world of television news. Today, there is a
very slow, if any, gain in the numbers of women who succeed. There are many questions
surrounding the subject of women in television news, and I will attempt to answer relevant ones in
this paper. How have the women that actually make it to the top and succeed as anchorwomen,
done it?
What does it take to make it? Why do those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was relevant to my paper in answering the question of why there are certain expectations of
women in television news. The textbook, Gender, Race and Class in Media had a few chapters
relevant to my paper. Larry Gross wrote a chapter titled, Out of the
Mainstream: Sexual Minorities and Mass Media. He discussed various stereotypes in our
society that lead to stereotypes in all areas of our lives. I found some of my sources from Oasis,
and also used a couple of magazine articles that were relevant to the subject. I focused on the
questions that I wanted to answer and drew points from the material that were relevant and
provided substantial evidence to answer my questions. I found that opinions and thoughts of
women who had been through the business were most helpful. There was one big limitation I
faced if I wanted to prove that women in television news were discriminated upon based on sex and
age. Women have been fired from their anchorpositions, and it has seemed that the reasons were
because of looks or aging. But this is hard to prove. In August, Carol
Schrader, a woman anchor from KETV TV in Omaha, Nebraska was asked to leave.
She said that it was because of her age, although her bosses didn t say that was the reason, stating
that she wasn t doing her job. She was replace by a young, blond woman. Also, when Marlene
Sanders was asked to leave ABC, instead of saying point blank that she was too old, her boss told

run on empty promises and heavy artillery, have done little good for the country. The military

Trend continued well into the Anglo Burmese war of 1824. Burma lost and as a result had to cede
of its land to British India. By 1885, the entirety of Burma was a province of British India until
1937 when it became a crown colony of Britain . It wasn t until Japan invaded Burma in the 1940s
that the Burmese were able to successfully resist foreign rule. Even in its Colonial period there was
a lack of widespread internal stability, this would create the trend that would theoretically justify the
harsh choices of the current government . Additionally the relative closeness of the shifts in
government that occurred during the colonial period could also explain why the Burmese
government has difficulty dealing with transition.
Burma officially gained its independence from Britain in 1948 by negotiations lead by nationalist
leader Aung San . After the success of these negotiations San was plagued with the daunting task of
unifying the various ethnic factions under one union. However before he could take any actions
towards achieving this task, he was assassinated. Once again hope was lost with the deaths of San
and other nationalist leaders, inter ethnic group conflicts ensued. The makeshift government that

Analysis Of Manifest Destiny By John Ghast
When analyzing the components of the American Dream, success, hard work, perseverance, and
luck all can be considered. During the late 1800 s hardworking immigrants from all walks of life
had a dream of clearing their own way to a better future through the newly developing United States
of America. Although some would argue that the immigrants and frontiersmen of the early eighth
century were quite different from one another, they all had one equal goal and dream. The right and
hope that they would prosper in a land as foreign as often time the language they would encounter.
In 1872 painter John Ghast created an art piece entitled Manifest Destiny. In what would become a
lasting symbol of the development of the west, Ghast tied several different people and goals into
one beautiful painting. Through several different art forms, styles, and smaller scenes throughout
the painting, it becomes evident that the american dream, more importantly the right of prosperity,
was not only tangible to the men and women of the great american frontierbut, also a basic human
right.
Manifest Destiny stretches a process of cultivation that naturally occurred over one hundred
years into one single elegant painting. The painting has a natural transition across the frontier,
from the right to the left, in chronological order of expansion. In the top right of the art piece a
river lazily bends and twist along flat, barren land. Dotting the banks of the river, if someone
looks closely, they can notice specks of ships sailing the river. Just the idea and challenges of
moving people, livestock and raw materials to an unknown land shows the huge amount of
dedication, and a crucial step, in developing America. The basin that the river is painted in is also
bathed by warm sunlight flowing from a newly risen sun. Just as the sun painted in the picture
looks bright and new, so did the hopes and dreams of the Americans painted. From the first corner
of the painting, we begin to see the frontiersmen develop a land unknown to them.
Following the transition of the painting a series of train tracks with antique red engines come into
view. Once raw materials did reach a river by boat, the question then became how they would
transport

Next what catch my eye was an increase of amount of money owned by the business to the
Creditors so this will be money leaving the business within the near future and if this continues to
raise then the business will end up in huge debts. I have find out some improvements as well such
as an increase in the amount investments in fixed assets, which could mean the business is
investing more or more of the assets were sold from last year which is good news for a business.
Question 4
From analyzing the business using all the above tools my advice is not to concentrate just on a
profit but to deal with small but dangerous issues like: stoke leftovers, paying out debts on time
(paying upfront will make your business more reliable for banks). I have come to this
conclusion because the business is making less profit from the year before and also there is
slight increase in some costs such as wages etc. I would also be concerned that the increase in
barrowing is a bit dangerous which can lead to the business being closed in the future or to expend
it to the new level. If these patterns continue (increasing value of business rising investments in
fixed assets) into 2014 the business could successfully start to pay off the overdraft. I think Michael
will be able to cope with the ongoing debt.

Paul Tillich Systematic Theology
In volume one of Systematic Theology, Paul Tillich seeks to trace the connections between reason
and revelation, being and God. In that order, Tillich brings his understanding of God out of his
understanding of revelation. However, he does not use classical terminology or ideas to explain
them. Instead, under the influence of existentialism and phenomenology, Tillich answers the
fundamental question of theologyby analyzing the nature of being. Modern formulations oscillate
back and forth as it relates to theological loci as to which comes first: the doctrine of Godor the
doctrine of revelation or Scripture. It is an attempt to answer a similar question, Which came first?

In philosophical terms, it is the problem of the one and the many. Tillich argues that polytheism is
not quantitative element (that is, threeness) but a qualitative one (222). The issue is ultimacy over
concreteness, which, in his philosophical explanation, is quite difficult. He argues that there are
three types of polytheism (universalistic, mythological, dualistic) and in each of them the concrete
prevails over the ultimate. Therefore, each god seeks to be ultimate over other gods. In Trinitarian
monotheism, the ultimate and the concrete are unified (228). Based on this description and the
very language he uses, it seems at this point in Tillich s development, that he was uncomfortable
with monarchial elements in trinitarian theology (i.e. primacy of one over

School Experience In High School
As a small child in elementary school, I can remember the anticipation of unstructured recess that
followed our daily lunch routine. Ordinarily, the bell for lunch would ring. The teacher would line
everyone up and that is when the excitement would erupt. Immediately the chatter of little voices
commenced among the students as they collaborated with their peers about what they desired to
conquer first. At that very moment imaginations exploded! Were to begin? Would be the question
on everyone s mind. Where would the perfect place to meet up with your friends be? Would it be
the luxurious field full of dandelions? Or the merry go rounds, slides, swings, monkey bars, jump
ropes, the possibilities were endless. The instant lunchtime was over the teachers would open the
portal to a wondrous world of whimsical delight: The Playground! Instantly the deafening sound of
screeching chairs sliding across the cafeteria floor would erupt. Followed simultaneously with the
rumble of wild, uncontrollable energy bursting through the cafeteria doors. Students scattered
uncontrollably; running competitively to their previously discussed desired positions. FREEDOM
a time to run wild with no cares, no worries, a time to jump, and holler. A time to enjoy being a kid.
A time to appreciate being with friends. A measure of time with limited restrictions unstructured

Case Study For Defence In Depth

1.Security Is a Team Sport: A Case for Cooperative Defence in Depth
A Defence in Depth strategy has always remained in fashion and a constant within security clever
organizations. Like the body s immune system, this strategy is focused on multiple layers of
defence to protect against any new threat. It includes defences and controls covering both networks
and hosts and encompasses all phases of threat protection from prevention, to detection, to response.
But there is an evolution to the traditional Defence in Depth strategy that is called Cooperative

5.How the Skills Shortage Is Killing Defence in Depth
Denial of service attacks grow ever larger. Foundation turns out to have shocking holes. Since
2010, security vendors have been developing ever more impressive, but specialized, security
gizmos. It used to be easy to sell targeted security products because every gizmo would get air

Military prior to the digital age, defence in depth is the idea that more layers of defence equal a
stronger security posture. For vendors, defence in depth meant it was all right if their gizmo didn t
offer wide protection because some other vendor s gizmos would plug the holes. Forrester analyst
Rick Holland called this philosophy Expense in Depth the multilayered approach to ensuring
minimal return on investment.
Normally the market fixes problems like this: rising wages in any field should attract new
applicants to the business. But security doesn t work that way. Security is harder to teach than other

Abstract
This paper provides a brief presentation of Activity Based Costing methodology, how is used as
well as its short comings.
Activity Based Costing
Activity based costing (ABC) methodology is an instrument designed to provide accountants and
managers with valuable costing information that will allow them to make sound strategic decisions.
It is used as a secondary methodology rather than a replacement for the company s primarily
costing system. The ABC methodology identifies activities in an organization and for each activity
it assigns a cost. The cost reflects the actual resource consumption by each activity that has been
identified.
Under a traditional system, overhead cost is allocated to an activity based on hours or rates for
direct labor or machine usage. However, this approach does not clearly indicate how much
overhead cost will be needed in order to complete a job through a particular function. ABC
methodology is to be used as an alternative to traditional accounting where a business s overhead
costs (indirect costs such as electrical energy consumption for heating or cooling, or indirect cost
associated with marketing) are allocated as a proportion of direct costs, to an activity. This
approach is unsatisfactory because there can be cases where two activities could absorb the same
direct costs

  • 2. Guest Edited By Mark Garcia Guest edited by Mark Garcia Book Review 14th Jan 2015 This book explores the future of details and how details can vary through different aspects of attempts, fields, aesthetics, narratives, the role of details in the future of architecture itself in terms of questioning that connection between the digital, the virtual and that of the physical and applicable. Here we are looking at details as a whole, as a way/ways of practicing architecture. Laying out all the different possibilities there are for rather justifiable or non justifiable architecture fast beyond the present time to the near future. For many years I have questioned these dilemmas; trying to understand how the virtual world and the coming future of architecture is being translated into real architecture yet conveying its meaning and approach to the existed world and us, and I mean by us not only architects or students of architecture but people, inhabitants and users. This translation is somehow getting lost from the digital through to the commitment of construction, but maybe the lost and the forgotten can become the interesting and the innovative. However, this contrast is rather intriguing and clever as it expands our possibilities and energies through the different ways of applying architecture. I m not interested in living in a fantasy world ... All my work is still meant to evoke real architectural spaces. But what interests me is what the world would be like if we were free of conventional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Pros And Cons Of Firefighter Grieving On average there are there are 70 on duty firefighter fatalities in the United States every year. ( Firefighter Fatalities in the United States ). This means that an on duty firefighter dies about every 5 days. Firefighters have enough stress with their everyday job, then you add losing a fellow member it puts another level to that stress. Imagine two siblings go out to play basketball like they do multiple times everyday and one of them end up dying in a freak accident. Horrible right? It is the same thing with firefighters. They go out on a call. There is a freak accident and there is not a great outcome. The death of a fellow firefighter is like losing a brother or sister because you are living with them for almost one third of your life. (Johnson). Firefighters are one big family. There has always been firefighter fatalities. The questions has always been: How to deal with one when it happens. What is the right amount of time off for grieving? Should there be mandatory counseling? Who do we bring in to support the firefighters? The problem is that every fatal incident... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Grieving is a large part of the healing process. When there is any death anyone who is close with the person grieves. The closer someone is to the person the longer it may take for them to finish the grieving process. Giving firefighters mandatory time off for grieving is another way to deal with firefighter fatalities. Failure to provide emotional and psychological support may result in the resurgence of emotions during stressful situations, which may have a detrimental impact on safe operations. (Theil, 19). Providing time for grieving is important. The problem is that the fire department has to run and it cannot run without the firefighters. Giving mandatory grieving works in theory but in reality there would not be anyone to run the fire ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Disaster Of Space Shuttle Columbia Disaster Abstract The fragile of complex and large systems, it is argued, is addressed through the catastrophic events that happened in different fields. This report looks at three serious systemic failures in engineering and finance domains among the history, including the Disaster of Space Shuttle Columbia in 2003, the Japanese asset bubble in late 1980s and the explosion of Deepwater Horizon in 2010. The research draws upon final reports of NASA, related magazines and published books. Looking through the lenses of those catastrophes, the analysis reveals the tremendous loss and effect of system failures and gives a lesson to avoid similar disasters in the future. Space Shuttle Columbia Disaster On February 1st, 2003, Space Shuttle Columbia was destroyed on its way re entering Earth and all 7 crew members died in that accident. Space Shuttle, different from the one time used rocket launcher or manned spacecraft, is a partially reusable low earth orbital spacecraft system operated by the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Each space shuttle may bring different missions leave and re enter Earth several times. Since the final flight of the Space Shuttle Columbia is the 113th flight of the Space Shuttle Program and Columbia s 28th mission, we will refer Space Shuttle Columbia in its final flight as STS 107 in the later passage. STS 107, carried equipment and 7 crew members, was launched on January 16th, 2013 and was expected to stay in space ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Chernobyl Nuclear Power Of Ukraine Radiation Disperses after Nuclear plant Explosion in Northeast Ukraine On April 26th, 1986, the disaster at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine dramatically changed the world s opinion about using nuclear reaction for power. At 1:23am, reactor four exploded, releasing more than a hundred times the radiation of the bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki (Rosenberg, 2014). As a result of the incident and producing fire, large amounts of radioactive material were consequently released into the environment. The accident caused the largest uncontrolled radioactive release into the environment ever recorded for any civilian operation, and large quantities of radioactive substances were released into the air for about 10 days. This caused serious social and economic disruption for large populations in Belarus, Russia and Ukraine (Chernobyl Accident, 2014). While the radiological impact from this disaster was minimal outside of Russian and Ukraine, it did bring to light the risks associated with the use of nuclear energy across the global stage. Over the next sixteen years, world leaders devoted their attention to conducting reactor safety studies, as well as improving emergency preparedness for public workers and these industries. Located in Northern Ukraine, the Chernobyl nuclear power plant is situated just approximately 80 miles north of Kiev, and just over 12 miles south from the Belarus border. The power plants first reactor became operational in 1977, with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Personal Reflection On Race And Race In A Classroom Going into this unit, I was apprehensive. I had never really talked about race in a classroom setting. I did not know how comfortable I was with talking about race in a large group of people. After this unit, I felt a ton more comfortable talking about race, which I think is going to be very helpful going into high school. Although I found the entire unit very interesting and enlightening, I thought that the words to use activity and documentary episodes one and two were really important in furthering my understanding of raceand how to talk about race. Although all of the things that we watched and talked about were very helpful and interesting, the thing that I found to be the most helpful was the words to use. Staring this unit, one of the things that I was most worried about was being offensive on accident. I had never really had to talk about race with a lot of people, and I had no clue why some words were offensive and why some were not. I was wondering what words had negative connotations, and I was really excited to learn about what words to use and what words not to use so that I could talk about race more comfortably. The activity was very helpful. I learned a lot about what words to use and not use, but what really made this part of the unit incredibly helpful was learning the reasons behind why words were offensive. For example, I didn t know that some words like European American, or that Latino This activity made me a lot more comfortable talking about race ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. St John Case Study Geography St John is one of the chief islands of the Virgin Islands of the United States in the Caribbean; the other islands are St Croix, Water Island and St Thomas. St John is 4 miles east of St Thomas, which has the port city of Charlotte Amalie, the territorial capital, and the only major airport for the region. Geographically, the US Virgin Islands are part of the Leeward Islands of the Lesser Antilles and were formerly known as the Danish West Indies until they were sold to the US by Denmark in 1916. St John, only about twenty square miles in area with a permanent population of slightly less than 5000, is a resort destination for affluent tourists. The island has no airport of any kind, relying instead on ferry boats from St Thomas, Tortola, Jost Van Dyke and Virgin Gorda. Most of the island of St John is protected parkland. The tourist season is from late October through June; the hot summer months are considered off season. The two major towns are Cruz Bay, a port on the west side of the island, and Coral Bay, a smaller town on the east side. Both towns have restaurants and car rentals; each has a market for groceries and sundries.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Trunk Bay has repeatedly made lists of the Top Ten beaches of the world. Access is easiest to the beaches on the north shore, a destination both for honeymooners and world travelers. Most of the beaches there are on land owned by the US National Park Service and open to public access, but with no resorts or hotels. One notable exception is Caneel Bay Resort, a privately owned facility in an area that had once been the personal estate of the Rockefeller family. The motto stresses the need for everyone to work together, and discourages individualism. Their society believes that when an individual feels, the community reels , meaning when an individual begins to feel real emotion, society behaves in a disorderly manner. When one longs to achieve happiness and meaningfulness, they may abandon everything they know in the pursuit of discovering their passion. In this pursuit one may encounter a cultural conflict that is hazardous to themselves and society, thus creating disorder in the world in which they call their home. • 10. The Code Of Chivalry In Ancient Rome Courtesy, generosity, valor, modesty, and many other characteristics were not only used to classify a knight, but are still used to distinguish a true gentleman. A chivalrous act performed towards a girl is something we do not see very often anymore. How often do you see a man opening the car door for his lady? It all started a thousand five hundred years ago when there was no such thing as chivalry being well known by all people. During these years the Roman Empire was the cultural and economic center of a good amount of people from around the world. Suddenly, for a few reasons pertaining to the era, Rome vanished. The tranquility began to be replaced with violence. Overlords began to put themselves out there, and be a part of the Roman landscape.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We see it today as it inspires philosophers, and writers. For example, Morte d Arthur, who was a knight was cruelly killed and dies. When his body is shown to King Arthur he tells Arthur, he had been attacked by King Pellinore at the well, and then begged that he should be buried, and that one of Arthur s knights should avenge his death. (Malory, p.99) Another example would be Sir Gawain in the Green Knight has to do with the arrival of the Green Knight at King Arthur s feast. He challenges King Arthur to his game, but Sir Gawain ends up accepting the challenge instead of the king. Then the Green knights head is cut off. As he picks up the knights head he tells Sir Gawain that he must meet back with him in one year. This way he can return the challenge. One year passes, and he comes across a castle on his path. With grace he is let inside the castle, and is aloud to stay for a few days. The lord of the castle makes up a game. The Lord has to go hunting and Sir Gawain has to stay in the the castle. They both at the end of the night have to exchange their winnings. The lord of the castle is the Green Knight. Basically the reason for the game was to test the chivalry values of Sir Gawain throughout the story and the game he made up. This was very clever of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Fairy Tales And Modern Stories Bruno Bettelheim Summary Bruno Bettelheim and Maria Tatar both composed articles on the effects that fairy tales have on people s lives. Bruno Bettelheim wrote the article Fairy Tales and Modern Stories. In that article he believes that fairy tales are considered safe stories and provide mental stability to children when they find themselves in tough situations. When Maria Tatar wrote her article Introduction to Fairy Tales she also elaborates on his point, but also explains these fairy tales have different effects on all ages. While both authors agree that fairy tales have mixed effects on people, they also have many disagreements in between. Both authors do ultimately believe that fairy tales are important in children s lives, but there are similarities and differences between these two articles that need to be established. Bettelheim and Tatar both explain that fairy tales have certain effects on children at a young age, but they way they explain their effects are quite different from each other. • 15. Moral Decision Making In The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe Essay We all make choices; sometimes those choices have negative consequences. By Ehi Oyugbo Humans are capable of making their own decisions which can often have positive or negative consequences on both themselves and others. Every day we face decisions about what to eat, what to wear and how to use our time. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobeby C.S Lewis tells a story of forgiveness, bravery, self sacrifice and betrayal while introducing Christian values and lessons on moral conduct. Although Lewis claims that links to the Christian faith are purely coincidental, the story contains elements of Christian allegory and many parallels between the scriptures and the life of the Pevensie children. This essay will analyse both Aslan and Edmund Pevensie s choices throughout the movie and their influencing factors in order to gain insight into moral decision making. Set in the1940 s during World War II, The Lion, the Witch and the follows the four English siblings: Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy Pevensie who are evacuated to the country house of an old Professor for their safety during the London air raids. There, they find an old cupboard which has the ability to transport them between the real world and Narnia. Edmund is the 3rd oldest of the Pevensie children, at the age of 10. The location of the tree holds great importance to sap collection. Trees in open environments such as lawns and roadsides have large crowns due to the lack of competition from other trees and therefore produce more sap that is often sweeter. To compare, a tree in an open setting has the capability to produce a gallon of maple syrup in one season, but a tree located in a forest can only produce about a quart of maple syrup in one season. The tree must you desire to tap be at least 10 inches in diameter when measured 4.5 feet above the ground. Also, trees between 10 and 20 inches should only have one tape, trees 20 to 25 inches can sustain two taps, and trees more than 25 inches in diameter may have three or more taps. So, after your trees have been selected the next step is to determine when to tap trees. In Northeastern United States, sap begins to flow in the spring from late January to early February. The time between mid February and March is often the most productive period of the sap collection season. In order for sap to flow, temperatures must rise over 40В° F during the day time and drop below 32В° F during the nighttime. The sap will also fluctuate throughout the 4 to 6 week season. • 20. Modern Sensibility In The Tempest By William Shakespeare Many people argue that among the many literary works composed by William Shakespeare the tempest treats issues that revolve around reconciliation, forgiveness, and faith in the future generation. Making use of character Prospero, the Author was able to develop the major themes of the play that in broader context overthrow the Great chain of being and adopt a modern sensibility. To be in a position of exposing how Shakespeare addresses the mentioned theme, a consideration of a thesis statement that attitudes and actions of the main characters in play define the implication a play has on society. To facilitate an extrapolation of the thesis in consideration, I will first explain what is meant by the modern sensibility. In connection with artistic or social activities, modern sensibility refers to an understanding or the ability to decide what is useful and valuable. In a social setting application, modern sensibility is a way of understanding things to the social ideals of an earlier age. Making use of character Prospero, the author shows how the ideologies of an individual assume a different direction after suffering some of the transformation in the society. As the play kicks off, Prospero s conduct displays a contradiction from the basic tenets of Christian forgiveness. Depending on his good fortune, the character seizes the opportunity to take vengeance of his enemy. The passage that presents the central focus of the book is one that Prospero hopes that his plan to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Arginine Vasopressin And The Plasma Membranes Water reabsorption is regulated by vasopressin since its release increases the water permeability of distal tubule and collecting duct cells in the kidney. After stimulation by vasopressin, aquaporin 2 (AQP2) accumulates in the plasma membrane of these target cells on the apical side. Aquaporin 2 is a water channel that allows water to be reabsorbed from the filtrate (urine), returned to the bloodstream and consequently concentrating urine. To this day, the trafficking mechanisms that recruit AQP2 to the apical plasma membrane are still not well understood. Recent studies have shown that cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) may not be required for arginine vasopressin (AVP) mediated AQP2 membrane targeting, and that other signaling... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since it is the excessive expression followed by apical translocation of the Aquaporin 2 that leads to congestive heart failure (CHF) and other water imbalance disorders, studying the mechanism of the pathway that leads to this translocation is important (Yui et al. 2017). Congestive heart failure in rats, in two separate studies, was shown to be associated with the over accumulation of the Aquaporin 2 channels in the apical membrane of the distal tubal and collective duct cells in kidneys which causes the fluid from the filtrate (urine) to be reabsorbed into the bloodstream(Brond et al., 2013)(Nielson et al. 1997). This results in water retention in tissues in different parts of the body which leads to congestion in the body. If prolonged, the condition will lead to congestive heart failure, abbreviated CHF. In a study of this phenomenon, they argued that vasopressin should normalize water absorption in terms of increasing the permeability of the distal tubule and collecting duct cells to water (Soren Nielson et al. 1997) and in doing such, would increase the concentration of AQP2 along the apical membrane of distal tube and collecting ducts (Soren Nielson et al. 1997). • 22. Choosing the Best Tactical Flashlight h1 Choosing the Best Tactical Flashlight /h1 One of the most important steps in self defense and gun safety is knowing your target s location and what is beyond and in front of it. Not practicing this vital step can result in severe injury or even the accidental death of an innocent person. However, it can be extremely difficult to practice this in a dark area. That is why tactical flashlights have become so popular with gun owners. They re not only useful for illuminating the area that you re trying to protect, but they can also be so bright that they can temporarily blind or stun the threat. If you want the best tactical flashlight for your gun, focus on these important aspects while shopping. h2 Selecting Type /h2 There are typically two types of tactical flashlights available for nearly any gun. These types are hunting and military tactical flashlights. Their purposes are quite clear as the hunting flashlight is more for hunting while the military one is more for combat purposes, but you don t have to focus on those specific aspects to make your choice. You should weigh the specific features of each flashlight instead. h3 Hunting /h3 Tactical flashlights meant for hunting are very straightforward. They re meant to illuminate large areas and possibly blind or stun certain prey for an easier shot. Duke Alessandro de Medici s assassination in 1537 and widespread uncertainty surrounding his inexperienced and young successor, Cosimo de Medici, momentarily rekindled hope for a return of the Republic. However, not only did Cosimo thwart any hope for the return of the Republic, he went on to rule Florencefor almost forty years and erect a Grand Dukedom that lasted until the mid 18th century. Propaganda in the form of art played a huge role in the consolidation of the Medici dukedom under Cosimo. The political nuances evident in the visual representations commissioned at this time were vital in the manipulation of the public, the establishment of the Medici as a ducal power and the subversion of Republican ideals. In January 1537, Cosimo was declared the head of Florentine government, however, he was still far from the powerful monarch that he is to become. Those who put Cosimo in power were members of Florentine aristocratic families who planned to establish an oligarchical government, with the adolescent Cosimo as mere a figurehead. Juntilla 30 November 2017 Kim Research Paper Rudyard Kipling s genuine work was obtusely polemical; however, a genius radical message overruns his fictional too. Even though the novel Kim, with its lively portrayals of the geology and societies of India, is by all accounts a festival of the subcontinent and its local people groups, it, in any case, is organized as an expert radical work. As one with this feeling of good commitment to force English government on the dull races of the world was the storing up of financial and worldwide power for England itself, the biggest domain the world had ever observed. Along these lines, the upkeep of the feeling of good commitment in India was a critical piece of the belief system behind the monetary welfare of the domain. Kipling makes an extremely specific depiction of the political condition of India that distinctly disregards the developing clash between the local Indians and political condition severs to keep up the quality and legitimacy of the British presence in India. The way the countries justify this practice was because they have found resources that they didn t have in their countries: like in Africa, India, and parts of Asia. European powers saw the use of Imperialism, as well justified and a mean of spreading their influence and securing their strength. However the nations which found themselves under rule of an imperialistic power did not share the Europeans view on the favors they were giving. European nations saw themselves fit to divide the uncivilized world, almost in a pie like manner, to be placed under their reign. With this came many mistreatments of indigenous traditions and the people themselves. King Leopold the Second s imperialistic claim on the Congo, and the European attempts at controlling Chinaboth exemplify the disaster of Imperialism on the human condition, and the resistance created by the people. Both Africa and Qing China saw itself under the hungry eye of European powers. Meeting and arrangements were created, without the native s knowledge, by European power to subdivide and subjugate these lands for their own purposes, disregarding what the people of these lands desired. Despotism is a legitimate mode of government in dealing with barbarians, provided the end be their improvement. Anthropologists provided critical views of contemporary medicineand scientific understanding of human conditions and struggles (Kleinman 1996, Lock 1993 and Rhodes 1996). Conrad and Schneither describe the medicalization of deviance as deviant behaviours that were once defined as immoral, sinful, or criminal have been given medical meanings. Some say that rehabilitation has replaced punishment, but in many cases medical treatments have become a new form of punishment and social control (1992, 1). • 36. Research Paper On The Explosion Of The Sultana The explosion of the Sultana How is it possible that over 1,700 people could die and it not make it to the front cover of the newspapers? This seems impossible, but that s exactly what happened back in 1865. April 27, 1865 the Sultana exploded and over 1,700 people were killed. Sad to say but this event barely made it to the newspapers because of Abraham s Lincoln s death. At the time of this event a war had just ended and Abraham lincolnhad just died and everyone was worried about the funeral at the time of this disaster. Many lives were taken when the Sultana exploded and sank on August 27, 1865 ВЁMore people died on the Sultana than on the Titanic (1,503) or on the Lusitania (1,198)ВЁ (Billings, and Henry 156). The boilershad already not been in good shape plus the pressure of about 2 thousand more people that there were supposed to be boarded on that boat. By imposing this act, he wished to preserve and improve the role that the French language had in Canada. • 38. Analysis Of Luther The Reformer By Kittelson Martian Luther The book Luther The Reformer, by James Kittelson focused on the life, death and work of Martian Luther. Luther came from humble beginnings, born the son of a peasant. From these humble beginnings, Luther unintentionally created a revolution within the world of the church and an empire of Protestantism. Luther was not the person to start this spark nor did he want to create a new religion, rather his idea was to reform the church , but it was his views that were carried forth and spread. He was simply in the right place at the right time. Luther created a ripple effect that has shaped religion into what it is today. He takes the passages in the Bible and examines how they apply to us and our salvation. He evaluates what the possible implications are for our salvation. This is the fundamental view of the protestant church. It is the view that the Protestant church has focused on so intently. It is no longer us being told what the Bible means, but it is us interpreting it for ourselves. It is this thought that has brought us to where we are today. It has been both beneficial, in terms that the people now have the Bible in their language and often in their possession, but it also creates fighting amongst individuals on what passages may or may not mean. Euthanasia Vs Physician Assisted Suicide Euthanasia and physician assisted suicide can often get confused with one another and although both are 2 different practices, they share the same end goal; a peaceful death. Today, only a few countries in the entire world have legalized the practice of euthanasia, showing just how controversial the topic has become in recent years. Should someone be able to die just because they feel like it or should valid reasons be required? And who gets to decide whether an assisted suicide is allowed or not? The answers to questions like these are never simple but to guarantee the freedoms of liberty that were given to many in the form of government constitutions, all these questions and more must be answered. With this age comes maturity, the ability to make their own decisions, and having been able to experience life much more than a sick child likely has. Being diagnosed with a terminal illness then, if not devastating enough, raises the bar even higher, since one will be painfully aware of how the life they once knew will be taken from them slowly each day. Eventually, there may be nothing to look forward to as this disease robs them of who they once were. It is unjust to allow these adults to become nostalgics of their past life as they suffer through their new one, therefore assisted suicide should be offered to the patients with terminal and incurable illnesses who are 16 and older. David Swanton, an author who advocates the right to be able to die with dignity quotes a man who recently went to battle over his right to euthanasia, he states, Over himself, over his own body and mind, the individual is sovereign . To deny a person the right to live his or her life as he or she wishes implies that each individual does not know what is right for himself or herself. And sadly enough, eventually some patients will lose this ability, but what becomes of them then? Do they lounge around and become human vegetables that a family will need to take care of with not only basic needs but also hospital bills? Is the ability the patient ... The Decline in Union Membership in Australia Essay The Decline in Union Membership in Australia TOPIC The major issue today facing the Australian trade union movement has been the decline in union density. What have been the causes, and how have the unions responded to the challenge. Figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) in 2000, show that the decline in Australian union membership continues, despite the efforts of the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU), to stop the slide. The ABS reports that trade union membership has dropped to 28 percent of the total workforce, compared to 1992, where there was 40 percent. (Australian Bureau of Statistics 2000.) The most important function of a union is to maximise the wages and salaries of its members (Deery, Plowman, and Walsh, 2000). Why do employees join unions? There are a number of reasons that an employee may join a union but three major factors are evident. They are; dissatisfaction with economic aspects of the job; a desire to influence those aspects of the work environment through union orientated means; and, a belief that the benefits of unionism outweigh the expected costs (Deery et al, 2000). With the benefits of the objectives of a union evident, why has Australian unions witnessed a decline in membership? There are many reasons to suggest a decline in membership, but three main factors stand out. They are; the changing composition of employment; the casual effects of the business cycle; and, the introduction of the Accord (Deery et al, 2000). The changing composition of employment relates to the change in the structure of the workforce. Job growth has become generally greater in those segments of the labour force with relatively low levels of trade union membership, and a contraction of employment among the more highly unionised segments of the labour force (Healey, 1995). Most of the employment growth that occurred in the 80 s and 90 s was confined to the private sector whose union density was considerably lower to that of the public sector. • 55. Analysis Of Manifest Destiny By John Ghast When analyzing the components of the American Dream, success, hard work, perseverance, and luck all can be considered. During the late 1800 s hardworking immigrants from all walks of life had a dream of clearing their own way to a better future through the newly developing United States of America. Although some would argue that the immigrants and frontiersmen of the early eighth century were quite different from one another, they all had one equal goal and dream. The right and hope that they would prosper in a land as foreign as often time the language they would encounter. In 1872 painter John Ghast created an art piece entitled Manifest Destiny. In what would become a lasting symbol of the development of the west, Ghast tied several different people and goals into one beautiful painting. Through several different art forms, styles, and smaller scenes throughout the painting, it becomes evident that the american dream, more importantly the right of prosperity, was not only tangible to the men and women of the great american frontierbut, also a basic human right. Manifest Destiny stretches a process of cultivation that naturally occurred over one hundred years into one single elegant painting. The painting has a natural transition across the frontier, from the right to the left, in chronological order of expansion. In the top right of the art piece a river lazily bends and twist along flat, barren land. Dotting the banks of the river, if someone looks closely, they can notice specks of ships sailing the river. Just the idea and challenges of moving people, livestock and raw materials to an unknown land shows the huge amount of dedication, and a crucial step, in developing America. The basin that the river is painted in is also bathed by warm sunlight flowing from a newly risen sun. Just as the sun painted in the picture looks bright and new, so did the hopes and dreams of the Americans painted. From the first corner of the painting, we begin to see the frontiersmen develop a land unknown to them. Following the transition of the painting a series of train tracks with antique red engines come into view. Next what catch my eye was an increase of amount of money owned by the business to the Creditors so this will be money leaving the business within the near future and if this continues to raise then the business will end up in huge debts. I have find out some improvements as well such as an increase in the amount investments in fixed assets, which could mean the business is investing more or more of the assets were sold from last year which is good news for a business. Question 4 From analyzing the business using all the above tools my advice is not to concentrate just on a profit but to deal with small but dangerous issues like: stoke leftovers, paying out debts on time (paying upfront will make your business more reliable for banks). I have come to this conclusion because the business is making less profit from the year before and also there is slight increase in some costs such as wages etc. I would also be concerned that the increase in barrowing is a bit dangerous which can lead to the business being closed in the future or to expend it to the new level. If these patterns continue (increasing value of business rising investments in fixed assets) into 2014 the business could successfully start to pay off the overdraft. I think Michael will be able to cope with the ongoing debt. References

  • 58. Paul Tillich Systematic Theology In volume one of Systematic Theology, Paul Tillich seeks to trace the connections between reason and revelation, being and God. In that order, Tillich brings his understanding of God out of his understanding of revelation. However, he does not use classical terminology or ideas to explain them. Instead, under the influence of existentialism and phenomenology, Tillich answers the fundamental question of theologyby analyzing the nature of being. Modern formulations oscillate back and forth as it relates to theological loci as to which comes first: the doctrine of Godor the doctrine of revelation or Scripture. It is an attempt to answer a similar question, Which came first? The chicken or the egg? While he does begin with his book with entire... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In philosophical terms, it is the problem of the one and the many. Tillich argues that polytheism is not quantitative element (that is, threeness) but a qualitative one (222). The issue is ultimacy over concreteness, which, in his philosophical explanation, is quite difficult. He argues that there are three types of polytheism (universalistic, mythological, dualistic) and in each of them the concrete prevails over the ultimate. Therefore, each god seeks to be ultimate over other gods. In Trinitarian monotheism, the ultimate and the concrete are unified (228). Based on this description and the very language he uses, it seems at this point in Tillich s development, that he was uncomfortable with monarchial elements in trinitarian theology (i.e. primacy of one over ... • 59. School Experience In High School As a small child in elementary school, I can remember the anticipation of unstructured recess that followed our daily lunch routine. Ordinarily, the bell for lunch would ring. The teacher would line everyone up and that is when the excitement would erupt. Immediately the chatter of little voices commenced among the students as they collaborated with their peers about what they desired to conquer first. At that very moment imaginations exploded! Were to begin? Would be the question on everyone s mind. Where would the perfect place to meet up with your friends be? Would it be the luxurious field full of dandelions? Or the merry go rounds, slides, swings, monkey bars, jump ropes, the possibilities were endless. The instant lunchtime was over the teachers would open the portal to a wondrous world of whimsical delight: The Playground! Instantly the deafening sound of screeching chairs sliding across the cafeteria floor would erupt. Followed simultaneously with the rumble of wild, uncontrollable energy bursting through the cafeteria doors. Students scattered uncontrollably; running competitively to their previously discussed desired positions. FREEDOM a time to run wild with no cares, no worries, a time to jump, and holler. A time to enjoy being a kid. A time to appreciate being with friends. A measure of time with limited restrictions unstructured recess. Years ago we did not comprehend that this type of interaction actually aids the human body with development of social, mental, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Case Study For Defence In Depth 2.8.3Case Study for Defence in Depth Security 1.Security Is a Team Sport: A Case for Cooperative Defence in Depth A Defence in Depth strategy has always remained in fashion and a constant within security clever organizations. Like the body s immune system, this strategy is focused on multiple layers of defence to protect against any new threat. It includes defences and controls covering both networks and hosts and encompasses all phases of threat protection from prevention, to detection, to response. But there is an evolution to the traditional Defence in Depth strategy that is called Cooperative Defence in Depth. A Cooperative Defence in Depth strategy should include both prevention and detection technologies that support open security ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Until now the attacker s efforts resulted in very specific actions, but now they can connect back into the environment and work towards a large scale ex filtration of data. 5.How the Skills Shortage Is Killing Defence in Depth Denial of service attacks grow ever larger. Foundation turns out to have shocking holes. Since 2010, security vendors have been developing ever more impressive, but specialized, security gizmos. It used to be easy to sell targeted security products because every gizmo would get air cover from the concept of defence in depth. Military prior to the digital age, defence in depth is the idea that more layers of defence equal a stronger security posture. For vendors, defence in depth meant it was all right if their gizmo didn t offer wide protection because some other vendor s gizmos would plug the holes. Forrester analyst Rick Holland called this philosophy Expense in Depth the multilayered approach to ensuring minimal return on investment. Normally the market fixes problems like this: rising wages in any field should attract new applicants to the business. But security doesn t work that way. Security is harder to teach than other ... • 61. Acct745 Week 2 Running Head: ACTIVITY BASED COSTING Activity Based Costing Adriana Vlasin Davenport University ACCT745 Larry L. Simpson CPA, CGMA March 1, 2015 Abstract This paper provides a brief presentation of Activity Based Costing methodology, how is used as well as its short comings. Activity Based Costing Activity based costing (ABC) methodology is an instrument designed to provide accountants and managers with valuable costing information that will allow them to make sound strategic decisions. It is used as a secondary methodology rather than a replacement for the company s primarily costing system. The ABC methodology identifies activities in an organization and for each activity it assigns a cost. The cost reflects the actual resource consumption by each activity that has been identified. Under a traditional system, overhead cost is allocated to an activity based on hours or rates for direct labor or machine usage. However, this approach does not clearly indicate how much overhead cost will be needed in order to complete a job through a particular function. ABC methodology is to be used as an alternative to traditional accounting where a business s overhead costs (indirect costs such as electrical energy consumption for heating or cooling, or indirect cost associated with marketing) are allocated as a proportion of direct costs, to an activity. This approach is unsatisfactory because there can be cases where two activities could absorb the same direct costs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
