piece of paper out of a notebook, tore it up, and then flush it down the toilet. Hitchcock chose to
allow the audience to hear these sounds for a few reasons. First, it provides the viewer with a more

I found this profound because I had come to realize that these men were being punished for the

One of the decisions Elie had to make was when an inmate was yelling at Elie asking how old he

beginning on page 135, Olga V. Naidenko and Linda S. Erdreich debate the issue of health
effects of cell phone usage. Naidenko states that cell phone usage does cause cancer, or at least
that more research should be done about longer term usage than what has been done previously.
Erdreich opposes the idea, stating that studies have shown there are no long term health effects of
cell phone usage (Easton, 2010. p. 135 147). I feel that Erdreich is correct in her review of

These studies have shown that long term users of cell phones, those who have had a cell phone
for more than ten years, have had increase incidence of developing a glioma, which is a brain
tumor that is usually malignant. This tumor usually develops on the side of the brain that is most
commonly used for cellular conversations. She states that there has been evidence showing a 90%
greater occurrence of developing glioma on the side the cell phone is most commonly used. She
also states that there has been research done to show that acoustic neuroma, a usually benign
growth on the nerve that runs from the inner ear to the brain, increases by 60% in long term cell
phone users. Acoustic neuroma can cause hearing loss, ringing in the ear, and unsteadiness (
Acoustic Neuroma, 2013). The opponent, Erdreich, states that research has proven that cell phone
usage is not dangerous. Erdreich begins her statement by saying that cell phones use radio waves,
similar to television, baby monitors, microwaves, and of course, the radio. These waves are of
lower energy and frequency than the waves required to produce radiation. The lower frequency
