Essay On Iago
Shakespeare s Iago A depraved soul would generate chaos, inflict pain, and stir up trouble for its
own satisfaction. Iago undoubtedly fits this description seeing that he is a sadist who attains
power by annihilating others in cruel and unusual ways. In William Shakespeare s The Tragedie
of Othello, the Moore of Venice, he is a sinister force which steers virtuous people towards their
gruesome deaths. Furthermore, he is the core focus of this academic essay. Our antagonist is an
astounding piece of work. He obstinately pleads indifference despite dedicating his entire
existence for revenge. A more favorable course of action involves starting over with a clean slate
but he couldn t as a result of his wounded pride. In addition, he is self destructive seeing that he
allowed racial hatred to consume him and become his undoing. Even though he invents elaborate
lies to be in control, he claims a reputation for honesty. He is impassive and callous then again he
is a married man who presumably once loved his wife. He is not only guarded, preferring hiding

For starters, he didn t murder anyone. He simply set in motion a chain of events which led to their
deaths. His competence at manipulation is quite beneficiary but insignificant without Othello s
insecurities about his age, race, and lack of experience with women. Our tragic hero is an
eloquent and physically powerful figure, respected by everyone. In spite of his elevated status,
he allowed himself to be led astray. His trusting nature combined with his jealous, self doubting
personality played an essential role in his downfall. As a matter of fact, his insecurities are so
close to the surface that a few words of hint and innuendo can tear the confident exterior and
expose his fears, desires, and tendency to violence. Every tragic hero has a hand in the tragedy that

Propaganda s Influence On Napoleon Bonaparte
Napoleon Bonaparte was the greatest eighteenth century French master of propaganda is beyond
dispute (ch. 2, p.1). Napoleon created for himself the image of the Revolutionary hero through
conscious manipulation of dispatches, correspondence, medallions, and especially, of the press
(Intro, p.2). Napoleon s strategic use of propaganda rocketed him by his growth in popular press.
Napoleon enlisted the help of propaganda to be a in a sense, his own squad of cheerleaders.
Napoleon cleverly marketed himself to showcase his superb abilities through art, bulletins,
medallions, newspapers and trinkets.
Remarkably, Bonaparte learned how important propaganda was very early during his political
ascension. He knew he needed a way to project himself ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
1). A type of propaganda used to persuade the masses was newspaper. Bonaparte had different
propaganda newspapers, journals, bulletins for different countries but yet all propaganda still
effectively praising and promoting Bonaparte. Propaganda for the Egyptian Army was Journal
de Malte, the Courier de l Egypte, and La DГ©cade Г‰gyptienne. Bonaparte began
experimenting with a new propaganda tool the Parisian Journal de Bonaparte et des hommes
vertueux after he was captured. The Journal was a blatant purpose the promotion of Napoleon
Bonaparte but also because its title could be seen as a challenge to the moral character of the
government itself (ch. 3, p.2). Newspapers, journals and bulletins were used for encouragement to
Bonaparte s military but he also addressed them to the public as well as naysayers. Another type of
propaganda that Bonaparte used was Art. Early in his career, for example, hye fostered
relationships with several scholars and with artists who promoted his reputation, not only as a
victorious general but also as a man of culture and intellect (ch 4., p. 1). Art propaganda was
extremely influential in Bonaparte s reputation. In projecting himself in an intellectual light,
Bonaparte was able to win over leading intellectuals and influential political thinkers of France
known as the Ideologues (ch. 4,

Grading Mechanics: Assigning Letter Grades Based on a Curve
Semester grades are determined by a curve. The nature of a curve is that your grade is based on
your performance relative to all other students in the class. It does not involve an absolute
standard, e.g., 90 100 = A, 80 90 = B, etc., which you may be used to from some other courses. I
believe that a curve is ultimately the fairest way to determine grades, since it does not set some
arbitrary absolute standard, but judges students on their performance relative to their peers.
With a curve, your grade is based on your percentile rank in the class, i.e., the percentage of students

The Judenfrage
During the War the Judenfrage:
In June 1939 the Nuremberg Laws came into force in the Protectorate, which limited the freedom of
the Jewish people.
Consequently, Jews roughly 1.2% of the pre war Czech Moravian population lost their civil rights,
estates, professions and access to the labour market. Marriages between Jews and Gentiles were
forbidden.
In order to rend a solution for the Judenfrage (issue of the Jews) first deportations to concentration
camps took place in October 1939.
Judenfrage is a term used in Europa since the 18th to describe problems caused by the growing
emancipation and power of the Jewry. National socialists made this term well known by viewing
the Jewish minorities as obstacles in the way of the general

Flight Nurses
Imagine that it is 1941. The country is running out of manpower, or more specifically, it is
running out of men. America is busy fighting in a war on two sides of the world. Husbands,
sons, and fathers, most of them will never come back. As people at home mourn America s
fallen heroes, we also encounter another problem. America has just joined the global battle, and
it is far from being over. What will we do when we can t take any more men out of our
neighborhoods, or even worse, when we run out of men to send away? Now, in 2016, the answer
is obvious: women. In 1941, even suggesting such a thing was almost laughable. In 1941, we
explored countless other options, none of which were even reasonable. In 1941, America had been

They were like live in maids, or nannies. In early 1900s America, they were taught things that
would be necessary for keeping a house, cooking, and raising children while the men got jobs and
made the money. While universities such as Harvard and Yale had been operating in the United
States since the seventeenth century, these schools were typically only open to men. Some
schools did allow women to attend, but only the wealthy. It wasn t until around 1980 that
women were reported as receiving higher education to the same extent as men. Science and
mathematics were thought to be too hard for women to do, so those subjects were left for the
men to study. Often times, women were denied degrees that they had rightfully studied for and
earned. It was even said that women would have too hard of a time trying to cope with the
vigorous studying routines that came with a college education. Meanwhile, men earned degrees,
and attending a university was viewed as a very honorable path to take. This is not to say that
women didn t go to school at all. Most went to grammar school when they were young, but
stopped when they became teenagers to help at home and prepare for adult life. Some schools,
however, were entirely devoted to making girls into proper ladies, such as the Long Lane School
for Girls, in Middletown Connecticut. About two months is spent in the central laundry, the 1936

Examples Of Innate Knowledge
Innate knowledge is knowledge or awareness of something from time of birth. Knowledge is a
cognizance, familiarity, understanding or skills that someone earn from experience or education. In
philosophy, some philosophers like Aristotle and Plato, argue that wisdom is inborn in the human
mind while the other said that knowledge is a compilation of experiences in life. But do we really
have innate knowledge?
Even though there has been a discussion for years that a new born child is more like a tabula rasa, (a
blank slate) It is somewhat conspicuous that some things are inborn and others are learnt through
experience. Many don t consider that innate knowledge exists. However, Instinct can count as
innate. In the theory of recollection by Plato, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Forever is a term used to describe something that last eternally or infinitely. Practically speaking,
some group of people really doesn t consider forever just because every material thing even
places, humans, animals will all eventually disappear. But what if I told you that forever exist
despite of everything being ephemeral? Forever exist. Not for all, but it does. Parmenides, the pre
Socratic Greek philosopher contradicts Heraclitus s philosophy about impermanence. Yes, some
things changes into other things but sometimes they don t change and sometimes they change
without changing into something else. Forever exist. Not for all, but it does. Feelings can last
forever. Not in relationships but in God. His love for us is powerful and mighty. It ll never change.
That thought is enough to prove that forever does

My Memorable Journey
A Memorable Journey With A Friend
On the date of October 27th 2017, me and my friend Tovah were on our way to a cabin in
Branson for her birthday. While we were there we went shopping at Tanger Outlets and we went to
The Haunted Lost Cavern at Top Of The Rock. Now in the essay below you will read about my
memorable journey with my friend Tovah.
It was seven o clock so when we got there so we just watched TV then went to bed. The next day,
we went shopping at Tanger Outlets and while we were there we got some awesome fudge. We
went to Bath and Body and I bought six bottles of hand sanitizer and gave one to Tovah. I also
bought a hand sanitizer holder and it came with two so I gave one to Tovah and I kept one for
myself. When we were done shopping we ate lunch then went back to the cabin. We started a fire
in the fireplace but the vent was closed so the cabin filled up with smoke that made Tovah sleepy
so she took a nap.
When it was about nine o clock, we woke her up and we went to Top Of The Rock. We were there to
go to the Haunted Lost Cavern. We only had to wait a little bit until we could get on the bus to go
to the cavern. On the way down a few people scare you. When you get to around the area of the
cavern, people are there so they can take your picture.
When you first get in there s a crazy lady chases you around with a fake leg. After you get past her
it was just a bunch of mechanical things. When you get to another part of the cavern there are
sheets hanging from

Arguments In Favor Of Scottish Independence
Those who are for Independence for Scotland say that they could be one of the richest countries
because of their oil industry, not have to bear the problems the rest of the UK is going through, and
not have to worry about their population since their immigration rate is increasing. On the other
hand, those who are not in favor of Scottish independence say that they should not depend on oil
since it may run out sometime later, it s debt would only increase, and that Scotland s population
has a negative growth rate, that would lead to a smaller population in the future. Scotland has been
part of the UK, which consists of 4 parts/countries (Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales, and England),
since 1707. The want for Scottish independence can be dated back from the late 13th century, which
has died down later until the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If independent, non supporters would argue that the country would be in debt, in which they have
to pay more than €10 billion in year interest alone. In opposition to Independence supporters,
Scotland is having a negative growth rate with 2,000 more deaths than births in the mid 2014s to
mid 2015s, which means that Scotland could have a smaller population in the future. The results
of the independence referendum came out as to a total of 3,623,344 casted votes, 55.3% in favor
of No independence, and 44.7% in favor of independence. Non supporters of independence for
Scotland are relieved that they would not have to go through the hardships in it s economy if
independent, while supporters of Scottish Independence are still fighting for the thought of having
a prosperous economy and prove the UK that they could be an independent country. As for now, the
country of the UK is slowly finding out who they are as the future

Gymnasts Flexibility
Gymnastics is a modern sport that develops and displays physical agility and coordination.
Flexibility and balance are the center of gymnastics, it makes up most of this sport. Gymnasts
are always trying to figure out how to become more flexible and make their movements
smoother. With flexibility, gymnasts are able to achieve very specific positions. An experiment
was done a few years ago, highly experienced gymnasts participated in certain exercises to see if
their flexibility in split leaps would increase. This experiment lasted for about one month. During
this experiment, there was an issue that was to be faced: the gymnasts were already at their
highest flexibility, they were already highly trained on their flexibility. Therefore, there was an
expectation of very little improvement in the flexibility of their split leaps. The study consisted
of the use of Thera band elastic strips. The color of Thera band elastic strips that the gymnasts
received were based on the stiffness of each strip (each color has a different level of stiffness).
When the Thera band elastic strips were ready, they were placed around the ankles of the gymnasts.

Each exercise was repeated a few times. As the days went on, the number of repetitions of each
exercise increased. For the split leaps, the gymnasts practiced the leap on both their weak leg
and their strong leg. They would repeat the leap a few times on each leg to evenly strengthen the
leap on both legs. The flexibility of the split jump was first recorded before the experiment was
initiated. After the experiment ended, the flexibility if the split jump of each gymnast was
recorded again. This served as a guideline to see if there were major or very little improvements in
split jumps of each

Thomas Hooker And Reverend Samuel Stone
The history of Hartford begins with Thomas Hooker s arrival in Newtown (later renamed
Cambridge) Massachusetts where he became a pastor of one of the earliest established churches
there. However, voting in Massachusetts was limited to freemen or limited to people who had been
formally interrogated on their religious views and experiences. Hooker disagreed with these
limitations and their influential pastor, John Cotton. So, Thomas Hooker and Reverend Samuel
Stone led a group of one hundred people in 1636 and founded the settlement of Hartford. Which
then led to the founding of the ConnecticutColony and Hookers increased involvement in politics.
On January 14, 1639 freemen from the three colonies that made up the Connecticut Colony sat
down and ratified the Fundamental Orders of Connecticut which was called the first written
constitution known to history that created a government. It marked the beginnings of American
democracy, of which Thomas Hooker deserves more than any other man to be called the father. The
government of the United States today is in lineal descent more nearly related to that of
Connecticut than to that of any of the other thirteen colonies (John Fiske). Having been founded on
such prestige Hartford has seen some of the greatest successes and some of the worst failures. For
example, Hartford claimed leader in both the industrial industry and insuranceindustry. Hartford
houses some of the most famous insurance agencies and firearm factories.

International News Coverage On Indian English Print Media...
International News Coverage in Indian English Print Media Dailies A Qualitative Content
Analysis of The Times of India, The Hindu and The Indian Express Introduction India is home to
one of the largest, most diverse print media sectors in the world. With a whopping 82237
newspapers registered as of 2012, out of which a staggering 11,478 are in English, the Indian
media seems to be thriving and feeding an incredible number of people information every single
day. Despite these overwhelmingly positive numbers, a lot of concerns have risen regarding the
actual content of newspapers. Arguments of commercialization and paid journalism (which are
rampant) aside, there has been some discontent regarding the lack of coverage of International
Issues in the Indian Media, particularly Indian Newspapers. To put things into perspective, one
can look no further than the Syrian Crisis that is still raging just yonder and look first at the
general ignorance of the average Indian how many are actually aware of one of the greatest
crimes against humanity that is currently underway? With over 170,000 civilians recorded dead,
as per the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, one would expect significant concern fuelled by
the media providing significant coverage of gruelling events. However, as illustrated in an article

The Three Main Theories of Deviance and Their Strengths...
The Three Main Theories of Deviance and Their Strengths and Weaknesses
A functionalist analysis of deviance looks for the source of deviance in the nature of society rather
than in the biological or psychological nature of the individual. Although functionalists agree that
social control mechanisms such as the police and the courts are necessary to keep deviance in
check, many argue that a certain amount of deviance can contribute to the well being of society.
Durkhiem (1895) believed that:
* Crime is an integral part of all healthy societies . This is because individuals are exposed to
different influences and will not be committed to the shared values and beliefs of society. ... Show

In the USA, members of society strive for the goal of success, largely measured in terms of wealth
and material possessions. The means of reaching this goal are through talent, ambition and effort.
Unfortunately, Merton argues, little importance is given to the means of achieving success. The
result is an unbalanced society where winning is all and the rules are not very important. This
situation of normlessness is known as anomie. Individuals may respond in different ways:
В· Conformity
The most common response is conformity. Conformists strive for success through the accepted
channels.
В· Innovation
People from lower classes may have few qualifications and turn to crime to achieve material
success.
В· Ritualism
Some people, particularly from the lower middle classes, may abandon the ultimate goal of wealth
but continue to conform to the standards of the middle class respectability.
В· Retreatism
Retreatists are drop outs who have rejected both the shared value of success and the means
provided to achieve it.
В· Rebellion
Rebels reject both goals and means but replace them with different ones. They wish to create an
entirely new kind of society.
Evaluation of Merton
1. Taylor criticises Merton for failing to consider wider power relations in society that is, who
actually makes the laws

Analysis of the Old Romanticism Genre through Izzy,...
When we think of romance novels, one s first thought might be of the kind we see at the newsstand
while waiting to check out at the grocery store. Visions of a white knight like Fabio whisking away
the fair damsel in distress. Romance novels for the young adult are appealing because many
romantic symbols relate directly to what they re experiencing both physically and emotionally in
their lives; that of youthfulness and hope.
The protagonist of Izzy, Willy Nilly is Isobel Lingard, a/k/a Izzy; a 15 year old sophomore, who
is a popular girl at school. When asked out by a senior, Marco Griggers, she becomes the envy of
her friends. The ironic thing is that she wasn t even that interested in him, personally. It was more
the fact that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another example of the visions Izzy had through her alternate little Izzy was when she came
home from the hospital and was trying to develop some type of routine. Learning how to adjust
living in the real world with her physical challenges. Izzy could see little Izzy all folded up on the
floor. She looked like a bad imitation of the dying swan, her leg and a half stuck out and her head
bowed down. Little Izzy put her hands over her face, wanting to disappear into the gray darkness
of depression that was swallowing her alive.
Romance literature for young adults uses the characteristic of exaggeration to express a variety
of emotions to its reader. This normally is accomplished in a fast paced plot, where the
characters are few and the narrative events and language flow quickly while still presenting
dramatic images. In Izzy, Willy Nilly, all of the different incidents with Izzy s girlfriends and the
townspeople help to portray how society has a tendency to only look at things from a superficial
view. Izzy originally thinks the same way when Rosamunde first enters her life. Rosamunde is
different than anyone Izzy has ever known. She isn t very pretty; she doesn t dress well at all; she
is also very outspoken and opinionated about everything. At first, this difference is a barrier
between the two girls and their interactions with each other. Rosamunde is constantly apologizing
for overstepping her

The Positive Side Of Anger In Ayn Rand s Anthem
The Positive Side of Anger
Anger, everybody has it it s just something we feel. I have experienced it before and it has had a
positive outcome. Similar to Equality in Ayn Rand s book Anthem, were he felt so angry at the
government for them forcing to tell where he was at and break his glass box. When I was in 7th
grade I always got picked on and bullied. Anger just rolled out of my eyes like steam I got so mad
and sad it just led to trouble. Well I got in trouble for being so mad and irritated with these
bullies that i got sent to the principal s office. Seeing the principal brought anger inside of me

that I had never felt before. As I explained ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Anger is felt by Equality when he is caught by the council when he was going to his hideout and
he felt anger because he would not want to give up his secret hideout so he said, We will not tell
you. (63). Resulting from that anger he had not given up his invention or his hideout. Another
example of anger presented in the book Anthem, by Ayn Rand was when Equality showed his
invention to the World Council of Scholars. The house of scholars were scared of his invention
so they commanded it to be smashed. So Equality ran to a window with the invention and yelled,
You fools! we cried You fools! You thrice damned fools! (75). That anger had led Equality to the
uncharted forest where he had found Liberty a girl he had met earlier in the book and they lived
together happily. Anger, a word you would think would never have a positive outcome does in the
book Anthem, by Ayn Rand. Everybody has anger they hold back and they are just like a ticking
bomb ready to explode. But anger in this case led to Equality leaving the situation which led him to
be happy away from the city. Anger is an emotionand everyone handles it differently and everyone

Viruses Are Not Living Things
Characteristics of Viruses My claim is that viruses are not living things. First of all, they do not
match all six characteristics of life, which explain that living things are made of cells, they
reproduce with DNA, grow and develop, use energy, respond, and evolve. To start off, growth
involves increasing an organism s size through the increase of cells. A virusis unicellular, so it does
not grow. The definition of development is the regular and predictable series of changes that occur
during an organism s life. Since viruses do not mature, or develop, in a predictable or regular matter
(since its actions depend on the environment), they cannot be considered living things. While
viruses respond to their environment through mutation,

The Norwich Textile Industry
The confinement to his cabin for six weeks of the Edinburgh born John Miller, the fifth officer on
board the East India Company ship Marquis Camden, by a tyrant of a ship s master seems an
unlikely starting point to a project on the Norwich textile industry, especially as Miller had nothing
to do directly with the city s trade. Sometime after the publication in 2008 of Captain Miller s
autobiography Chronometer Jack which I co edited when working in Glasgow, Geoffrey and
Margaret Nobbs, volunteers at Great Yarmouths Time and Time Museum, contacted me to say they
had transcribed the Marquis Camden s log book which recorded Miller s detention. Later, they

Having no background in weaving, much time and effort had to be put into decoding technical
terms and numbers in a variety of documents.
While I developed the research, Geoffrey and Margaret Nobbs transcribed a large numbers of
documents for me, particularly those relating to Ireland s considerable yarn trade with Norwich,
and to Stannard Taylor, merchant manufacturers in St Giles Street. Besides the pattern books and
the shipping databases, I created others relating to textile occupations, the Irish yarn trade, John
Taylor s yarn factoring business in Muspole Street, Stannard Taylor s European and South
American trade in Norwich stuffs, the Gurneys marine insurance business which covered textile
exports, prosecutions of spinners, reelers and putters out, the work of weavers, and so on. To add
to this work, David Cubitt generously sent me many articles he had transcribed from the local
press concerning various trades from hotpresser to heavel and sley (heddle and reed) maker, to

West Side Story Play Analysis
West Side Story is about a conflict between two rival gangs, the Jets and the Sharks, which
comes to a head when Tony, a former Jets member, and Maria, the sister of the leader of the
Sharks, fall in love. Although the play centers around Tony and Maria, the character of Anita
(played by Karli Dinardo) caught my eye since she revealed her purple dress which was different
from the reds of the Sharks and blues of the Jets and I found myself drawn to her in each scene
she was present in. I also found myself drawn to members of the Sharks as I understood the racism
they faced from members of the Jets, Officer Krupke, and Detective Schrank. The characters of
Tony and Mariawere actually the characters I didn t really like as I saw them both as selfish.... Show

I found that many of the actors in West Side Story vocals fit well with their characters such as
Carly Evans soprano like voice that seemed so innocent to the world just like Maria. The
orchestra ability to match the emotions of the song or scene was very beneficial in letting the
audience know of Tony and Maria s undying love for each other in Tonight through the use of light
and upbeat notes or Anita s anger in A Boy Like Thatwhich uses harsher notes. The effects of the
characters emotions would not have been as evident if the instrumentals they sang along too
didn t match the emotions they felt. Although the play is surrounded by dark themes, there are
musical numbers with a tinge of comedic value such as in America where Rosalia praises Puerto
Rico through phrases such as Puerto Rico, you lovely island and Anita retorts back Puerto Rico,
you ugly island or Gee Officer Krupke where the Jets are joking as to what to say to Officer
Krupke ending the song with Gee, Officer Krupke. Krup you! . In many of the musical numbers,
there seems to be a kid friendly approach as profanity is nowhere to be found with the
replacement of words such as Buggin in the Jet Songs although slurs such as spic and brown boy
fill the script. Besides the musical numbers, there were also sound effects in

The Locker Room At The Tennis Academy
Infinite Jest page 100 200 starts out with Hal Incandenza and his friends in the locker room at the
tennis academy. They talk about miscellaneous topics, but most is just usual stuff that teenage
boys talk about. Although, one theme that I find in their conversations is unhappiness. Most of
the boys seem exhausted, worn out, and just sick of being there. They go to the cartridge viewer
room and start to question why they are even there, because the players on the viewers do not
look too happy either. I think that this depression has a lot to do with why Hal likes to get high,
even though he says he is addicted to the secrecy of it, and while that may be true, I feel like
subconsciously he knows that it is because he is unhappy at the... Show more content on

It details the conversation between the two, leading up to his first romantic experience, which
wasn t much of anything at all. I think that the theme of this section of the story was coming of
age, and it gives more of a glimpse into Mario Incandenza s character. Next, it skips to the Ennet
House Drug and Alcohol Recovery House. It states that the man who started this house was
nicknamed, Guy Who Didn t Even Use His First Name, but I cannot help but wonder if this is
actually John Gately in the future, or maybe if he lives in the Ennet House in the future. I
believe that it may be John Gately because it describes this man as an extreme tough old Boston
AA galoot, which is similar to the description of Gately as being a big, tough man. Later on, on

Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy
A Brief Introduction To
Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy
By Wayne Froggatt
Third Ed.(this version Feb 2005)
Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT) is based on the concept that emotions and
behaviours result from cognitive processes; and that it is possible for human beings to modify
such processes to achieve different ways of feeling and behaving. REBT is one of a number of
therapies that come under the heading cognitive behavioural .
In the mid 1950 s Dr. Albert Ellis, a clinical psychologist trained in psychoanalysis, became
disillusioned with the slow progress of his clients. He observed that they tended to get better when
they changed their ways of thinking about themselves, their problems, and the world. Ellis reasoned

It contains illogical ways of evaluating oneself, others, and the world: demandingness, awfulising,
discomfort intolerance and people rating; When talking with clients, we often refer to beliefs as
self defeating rather than irrational , to emphasise that the main reason for replacing a belief is
because it negatively affects their lives.
Two Types of Disturbance
REBT suggests that human beings defeat or disturb themselves in two main ways: (1) by
holding irrational beliefs about their self (ego disturbance) or (2) by holding irrational beliefs
about their emotional or physical comfort (discomfort disturbance). Frequently, the two go
together people may think irrationally about both their selves and their circumstances though
one or the other will usually be predominant. Ego disturbance represents an upset to the self
image. It results from holding demands about one s self , e.g. I must ... do well / not fail / get
approval from others ; followed by negative selfevaluations such as: When I fail / get disapproval
/ etc. this proves I am no good and so on. These beliefs create ego anxiety emotional tension
resulting from the perception that one s self or personal worth is threatened and lead to other
problems such as avoidance of situations where failure, disapproval, etc. might occur; looking to
other people for acceptance; and

Red Harvest By Dashiell Hammett
The first novel we read for this course was a detective novel titled Red Harvest by Dashiell
Hammett. Personally this has been my favorite detective novel that we have read so far. But when
reading Red Harvest some may question, what makes it a true detective story? After doing some
investigating I have found the ultimate guide to what makes detective novels, true detective
novels. In order to relate these characteristics to the novel I first need to identify what some of the
characteristics are: The novel must have at most one detective and one criminal, and at least one
victim (a corpse) , Love has no place in detective fiction, and lastly There is no place for
descriptions nor for psychological analyses (Todorov). First, in the... Show more content on

Types And Types Of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
Introduction Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), also known as non insulin dependent DM, is a
chronic metabolic disorder characterized by certain symptoms such as hyperglycemia, insulin
resistance, and relative insulin deficiency [1]. Genetic, environmental and behavioural risk
factors are considered responsible for the predisposition of T2DM [2]. With the progression of
this disease, the patient eventually develops various short and long term complications. Thus, the
patient has to undergo multiple therapies, which reduces the quality of life as well as the life
expectancy [3]. The demographic data suggests that more than 400 million of population, across
the globe are currently suffering from this disease. In 2012, the death toll is upto 1.5 million due
to T2DM and 2.2 million people died due to high blood glucose level [4]. The major problem with
this disease is that it cannot be completely cured, but the symptoms and complications can be
controlled with diet, exercise, medicines and health monitoring. This subsequently lands the patient
on lifetime medication that involves a huge cost. In 2012, the American Diabetes Association
released a letter suggesting an annual expenditure of $245 billion for diabetes, which includes a
direct medical cost of $176 billion and $69 billion in reduced productivity [5]. In order to avoid
and delay the short and long term complications, the patients are prescribed with multiple treatment
modalities such as oral hypoglycemic drugs and

Griffith s Narrative Analysis
One word to describe Griffith is.. Eccentric. She is quite abnormal compared to her kin. Griffith
is a proud Lythari, an elf that has the ability to take the form of a wolf, one of very few who
exist. As a beast she stands at 4 , has a length of 5 7 , and weighs in at 160 lbs. The base color of
her coat is the same stark white as her hair with silver marbled in. A few identifying physical
traits are that she is missing 25% of the top of her left ear, while the right has been accented with
an assortment of 22 stone, wood, and bone hoops along the outer lobe/cartilage. While in her
elven form she stands at 6 4 and weighs in at 220 lbs. Additionally, she has seen 22 namedays,

all that she sees is deeply shunned. That s not to say that her people are not wise, but they seek
knowledge of the land, animal, and flora of their territories while Griffith thirsts for the
knowledge of other races. That being said, it does not seem as thought she was cast out from her

The Prevalence Of Domestic Violence
The prevalence of domestic violence in the United States is that it is occurring far more often than
many individuals would choose to admit. This form of violence is by no means new and culturally
the problem itself does not discriminate, there is no specific criteria that completely omits one from
becoming a victim of domestic violence. The dynamics of domestic violence consist of the
aggressor utilizing violence to maintain dominance and control over the victim. The victimization
that is consistent with domestic violence can come in various forms including, physical, sexual,
psychological, mental/emotional, and financial. Domestic violence victimization is a cycle that
usually is difficult to terminate by many victims as well as aggressors. Individuals involved in
abusive relationships continue to remain in them for various reasons such as, maintaining financial
stability, desire or hope that things will change overtime, fear that their abuser, will further harm
them for leaving the relationship, embarrassment of their situation, or there may be children
involved and the victims wants to avoid some of the harsh realities associated with a broken home.
Oftentimes domestic violence victims blame themselves for the violence encountered by their
abusers, figuring that if they do things differently the next time, maybe they won t be victimized
again by their partner. Conversely, violence committed by abusers is often self driven and hinges
on very minor actions executed by the

Rick Deckard In Blade Runner
The final scene moved me more than anything else due to three elements. Firstly, seeing Rick
Deckard genuinely, utterly helpless, perhaps even pathetically desperate for his life, is an
interesting contrast to most other protagonist characterizations. Usually the hero is always in
control, and even if they re temporarily bested, they take control by having a secret plan or
agenda. They certainly never show genuine fear or desperation. Yet here we have Deckard
slipping from the building, helpless to stop his fate. His desperation was a well executed parallel
to the desperation of the villain, Roy Batty. Though Batty seemed to be in control because he held
Deckard s life in his hands, he was just as helpless in the face of his inevitable demise and he knew
it. Blade Runnerdoes an excellent job reminding the audiencethat none can escape death human or

succumbs to his fate, Deckard ponders, I don t know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last
moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life anybody s life...my life. I
admire this quote because it fills me with love for people and makes me want to help them truly

Stocks and Bonds
In the financial markets, the most common forms of marketable securities are stocks and bonds.
Though they have some similarities to each other, they differ greatly in many aspects. Broadly
speaking, both financial instruments enable one to invest in corporations, public and/or private,
with possible profitable returns in the future.
Stocks (or shares), by definition, are shares of ownership in a company. By purchasing stocks in
a company, the investor becomes a part owner, and thereby owns a percentage share of the
company s after tax profits. Stocks/shares have two key characteristics: 1) they can be issued in
small denominations: an investor can purchase as many or as few shares in a company as he/ she
wants, thereby becoming a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stocks were rising on expectations of economic recovery later in the year, and bond prices fell as
their yields increased (bond prices and yields are inversely related). The yield on the 2 year notes
and 10 year notes, which are heavily influenced by the Fed regulated interest rates and inflation
expectations, respectively, increased from .76% to 1.4% and 2.25% to 3.93 during the same
period, respectively. Concurrently, the S P 500 had gained 4.8%, rebounding 40% from March lows.
Though stocks have statistically delivered higher returns in the long term compared to bonds,
bond prices are less volatile. The dividends paid out on stocks are uncertain and depend on the
distributable profits of the company, the company s investment plans and cash needs for the same,
and other such factors. On the other hand, bonds generally make a pre specified interest payout to
all bondholders periodically, thereby ensuring an assured, known cash inflow in the hands of a
bond holder. Further, on maturity of the bond, a pre determined principal amount is paid out by
the issuer to the bondholder, to purchase back the bond. Hence, a bondholder who holds the bond
to maturity, knows exactly how much he /she will receive both by way of interest as well as
principal on maturity. This is completely untrue for stocks, where neither the dividend flow nor the
capital appreciation is predictable with certainty.
Bonds are therefore relatively safer

China s Defeat Of The Huns
During its decline and ultimately its subsequent fall towards the end of the fifth century, the
Western Roman Empire witnessed the significant political disruption, civil war, and frequent
barbarian invasions from the north. Of these groups that continuously invaded the Western Roman
Empire included, but was not limited to, the Hunswho were a pastoralist tribe originating from East
Asia, north of China. The Huns caused a great deal of problems for many during the fifth century.
They were almost successful in taking down the classical world, and even though they were

tribes, the Huns spent most of their time training or fighting. They even developed... Show more

Romans did not treat the Visigoths nicely. As a result, the Visigoths rebelled against the Romans
because they treated them mean. In 378 A.D., the Battle of Adrianople took place between the
Visigoths and the Romans. The battle proved to be a major upset, and the Visigoths defeated the
Roman army. In the past, if the Romans lost then they could regroup and fight again until they win

X-Ray Tube Essay
X ray tube is designed to lower the amount of heat produce, this can be accomplished by the
rotating of the anode which gives off heat. The X ray tube is designed with the anode attach to the
rotor and cathode on the other side of anode. This design determines the characteristics of X ray
beam.
The cathode is a normal cathode is made up of negatively charge small coil wire called filaments,
which is housed in focusing cup. The filament is negatively charged coil of wire which becomes
heated when the electrical current passes through and when that energy becomes enough to expel
the electrons from the filament its called Thermionic Emission. The function of cathode is to push
out electrons which are produced by electric circuit and to turn those electron into a beam. The
filament is contained in the cathode, usually design using a material known as Theorated tungsten.
This theorated tungsten allows for a high temperature without the filament melting and there are
different sizes of filament which can help to vary the spaceial resolution according to what is being
x ray.
The anode has two primary functions, one is to convert electronic energy into x radiation and the
second one is to dissipate the heat created in the process. The part of the x ray tube where x
radiation is produced is a large piece of metal that connects to positive side of electric current. The
anode provides a mechanical support for a target, the material of anode enhances the conversion of
energy and

Mccutcheon V. Fec Case
McCutcheon v. FEC was a landmark case in American campaign finance law which challenged that
it is unconstitutional to limit an individual s donations to as many parties as they want because in
doing so their freedom of speech is being violated. The plaintiff is Shaun McCutcheon who is part
of the Jefferson County Republic Party Steering Committee as well as the Reagan Foundation. The
Republican National Committee was also a plaintiff. This case is a constitutional challenge to
aggregate limits on contributions to federal candidates and to political committees such as PACs
and parties. These aggregate limits restrict the total amount of money an individual may contribute
to all candidates or all political committees during an election cycle. The plaintiff did not challenge
the individual contribution limits on particular political entities but challenged the additional cap
BCRA places on the total an individual can place on all political contributions. BCRA stands for
the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002, which addressed two main issues: prohibiting
national political partycommittees from raising or spending any funds not subject to federal limits .
. . and the proliferation of issue advocacy ads (which is defined as electioneering communication
and was over turned in Citizens United v. FEC) (Campaign FinanceLaw Quick Reference for
Reporters). So what does this mean exactly? Shaun McCutcheon saw it unconstitutional that he had

content that we are communicating and the level of self disclosure. Hall s four spatial zones

use for intimate conversations, secrets, and deeper levels of self disclosure. The second of Hall s
spatial zones is personal space, 18 inches to 4 feet away, this spatial zone is used to communicate
personal information, but is less intimate than that of intimate space. The third of Hall s spatial

Analysing Talk to Chuck ads
The first thing to notice about the Talk to Chuck advertisement was the medium ВЎV animation.
The ads were not exactly cartoons ВЎV they were shot on film and then coloured over using the
Rotoscopy technology from MIT Media Labs veteran Bob Sabiston (the same technology was used
in the movie ВЎВ§Waking LifeВЎВЁ). The animated ads succeeded in focusing peopleВЎВ¦s
attention to the conversations. Somehow the removal of the real world details present in the live
actorВЎВ¦s face and retention of the actual background set, forced consumers move past what they
were seeing and shifted their attention to the dialogue. The characters discussed about
commissions, trades and plans for the future.
The second surprising choice was the new slogan, ВЎВ§Talk to ChuckВЎВЁ ВЎV not Charles, but
Chuck. Even though Mr. Charles Schwab was not present in the ads, the campaign was centred on
him. The Schwab campaign carried the theme ВЎВ§Talk to ChuckВЎВЁ which appeared as an eye
catching graphic device in the form of a dialogue balloon as would be found in a cartoon strip.
Some liked the use of the name ВЎВ§ChuckВЎВЁ; some loved it; some hated it; but everybody
noticed it. Overall it communicated a company that was comfortable to talk to, approachable and
on your level.

Biography of Joseph Fourier
Joseph Fourier was born in a modest family at Auxerre, France. Orphaned at an early age, Joseph
acquired his initial education from Pallais s school, which was run by the music teacher from
the cathedral. Thereafter he proceeded to the Г‰cole Royale Militaire of Auxerre. While he
showed an aptitude and flair for literature, by the age of thirteen, this was overshadowed by
mathematics a subject he found himself really interested in. Joseph completed a study of the six
volumes of Bezout s Cours de mathГ©matiques when he was fourteen and in the following year
received the first prize for his study of Bossut s MГ©canique en general. In the year 1787,
Fourier took admission in the Benedictine abbey of St Benoit sur Loire with a motive to train
himself for priesthood. However simultaneously he submitted a paper on algebra to Montucla in
Paris and even wrote a letter to Bonard stating his desire to make a major influence in
mathematics. This move suggested Fouriers uncertainty as to whether he really wanted to pursue
the training in priesthood or not. In 1789 Fourier left for Paris where he read a paper on
algebraic equations at the AcadГ©mie Royale des Sciences. The next year Fourier took up the
position of a tutor at the Benedictine college Ecole Royale Militaire of Auxerre where he had

A solid connection with other students is instrumental in being successful in college. Create study

12. Do not complain about the grade that a teacher gave you. Students are no longer given grades;
they earn them (a slight change from kindergarten that a few students struggle with). I grade
according to the syllabus and how effectively students meet the assignment objectives.
13. I do not care what grade you need to make. I do care that you improve as a student (earning a
certain grade is your concern while your being an educated student is mine).
14. If you cheat, you will earn a 0 and not be given a second chance on the assignment (if you are
cheating, I do not want you in a medical, legal, military or any other important career. P.S. there is
such a thing as a permanent record).
15. Only write about what you are passionate (if you do not care about the subject, I can guarantee
you that I will not be). The only caveat to this is being sure that you can objectively distance
yourself from emotional topics to see the flaws in your logic.
16. Communicate with me (I skipped the day where they taught mind reading in school and have
regretted it ever since).
17. Learn to skip excuses and take responsibility for all that occurs (being late for class or missing
assignments consistently means that it is your fault not someone or something else).

2016) Thus, from the business cycle, it can be presumed that the automotive industry is foremost a
growth industry but at a secondary level it is a cyclical growth, making it a Cyclical Growth
Industry.
Potentials for the automotive industry are more prominent in eco friendly initiatives and
technological improvements for vehicular automation. For example, Tesla has been a company that
has really sought to revolutionize the automotive industry by introducing cars that are more
environmentally friendly. Furthermore, as mentioned, in a PWC article, the intelligent car is fast
moving from the drawing boards to the streets (Jullens, Singh, Hirsh, Wilk, 2016). This intelligent

The Combustion of Polymers
Introduction
The history of polymers stretch back millions of years. These primitive polymers were created by
nature to fulfill the needs of information storage, energy storage and information reproduction.
Human made polymers are a more recent invention, of the last two hundred years or so. These
polymers are general made of highly flammable hydrocarbons and their derivatives. Fires caused
by a combination of human careless and the physical properties of hydrocarbons have caused
millions of dollars in property damage and claimed an untold number of human lives. It is this fact
that has lead to scientists devoting time and resources to making polymers safer. In the following
paragraphs the mechanism behind burning polymers will be ... Show more content on

This dehydrates the polymer, forming the protective carbon layer. At higher temperatures the
phosphoric acid can help in the generation of cross linked species and can under go
polymerization to form polyphosphates. Which react with the cross linked species to form the
char layer. Borated species work the same way, they form a glassy surface that helps protect and
insulate the substrate. The final pathway that will be investigated is the suppression of radical
species in the reaction space. This is done by introducing halogenated hydrocarbons and an
inorganic enhancer into the polymer. When the polymer burns, halogen radicals are released into
the gas phase. The halogen reacts with hydrogen, to form a hydrogen halide. Finally, this species
reacts with either hydrogen or oxygen radical to form hydrogen gas or water vapor, respectfully.
From this series of reactions the halogen radical is regenerated, where it reacts with either the
polymer substrate or more gaseous hydrogen to form hydrogen halide. The halogen radicals are at a
lower energy than either the hydrogen or oxygen radical species. The effectiveness of this method
is dependent on the halogen used. Bromine is the most common due to it narrow temperature
activation range. Chlorine is the next most common but due to a broad temperature range is not as
useful. Florine and

Disadvantages Of Strawberry Legs
Strawberry legs: Spoiler! How to get rid of it?
What Are Strawberry Legs?
Try observing a strawberry. Do you see the small seeds they have? You can notice black pores on
your legs after shaving that look similar. That is why this condition is called strawberry legs.
Sometimes the pores are hardly noticeable, and other times, they are so conspicuous that you start
feeling self conscious to show off your legs.
What are the causes of strawberry legs? Listed below are some potential causes of dark spots on
legs:
Sun Exposure
Sun exposure is the top cause of dark spots on legs and other exposed parts of the skin. Our skin
contains special cells called melanocytes. These cells produce a pigment called melanin.
Melanin determines the color of our skin, eyes, and hair. Dark skinned individuals, for example,
have higher levels of melanin in the skin than their counterparts with light skin. Melanin also helps
to protect the skin against sun damage. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because melanin is not always produced uniformly, a condition known as hyperpigmentation often
occurs.
This is manifested by dark spots on legs and other parts of the body. These spots are referred to as
sun spots, age spots, liver spots, or solar lentigines. Hyperpigmentation can affect anyone regardless
of the race or skin color.
Hormonal changes e.g. during pregnancy tend to enhance hyperpigmentation. It is thus even more
imperative to protect your skin while pregnant.
Aging
For most people, old age means years of accumulated sun damage. This usually manifests itself in
dark spots on legs, arms, and other exposed parts of the skin in old age. These patches tend to
appear after 40 years. They can occur on any exposed part of the skin including the lower

Why Do Asthma Sufferers
The Australian average statistic for people that smoke is 23.3%. The employed adult average
statistic is 84%. Knowing this we can roughly estimate that in the average workplace 1 out of 4
5 people will smoke. The Australian average for people that suffer from asthma is 18%. This
makes 1 out of 5 people in the workplace will suffer from some form of asthma. Unfortunately,
having smokers allowed to smoke in and around the premise of a workplace limits the interactions
the asthma sufferers can have with other workmates as well as limiting the areas the sufferers may
go due to the thick, tar soaked air. Asthma sufferers are among some of the most sensitive disease
sufferers on the planet. The smallest thing can set off an attack such as dust,

Thomas Hobbes Argues That Reason Is Both A Cause Of War
Thomas Hobbes argues that reason is both a cause of war and a cause of peace. It is a cause of war
because reason obeys the law of nature and human exercise the right of nature rationally will
inevitably lead everyone to war. It is a cause of peace because the state of war is a bad place for
everyone to function the law of their nature. Thus reasonleads to a better but more vulnerable
conditional state that is the state of peace. In this paper, I will explain this dual role of reason in
Hobbes theory. I will do so by first explain what is the law of nature and what is the right of
nature, and how does reason obey the law of nature inevitably lead human to war. Then I will
explain the three rational laws that lead human to peace.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We fight to acquire what we desire, to defend what we have acquired or to acquire or defend our
reputation.
But in the states of war, we are not able to preserve our life well. Thus to preserve one s life,
reason makes human wants peace. The first law is saying: every man ought to endeavor peace,
as far as he has the hope of obtaining it, and when he can t obtain it, that he may seek and use all
help and advantages of war. Which means if possible, peace is a choice of reason.
However, making peace requires everyone to lay down parts of his rights. Thus we have the
second law claiming that in the state of peace, a man is willing, when others are willing too and
when the man is still able to defense himself, to lay down his right to all things and be content
with so much liberty against other men, as he would allow other men against himself. Hobbs
believes the only way to make peace is to lay down one s rights because as discussed in the
previous part: retain the right of nature inevitably leads to war. But one could only lay down his
rights while others are doing so as well because if he is the only one who is disarmed, he simply
made himself a prey to his armed competitors and will be taken advantage of, which is not allowed
by reason.
Things could go smoothly if two people sign a contract and lay down their rights simultaneously.
However, when they are signing a

Challenges of Development in Sumer and Egypt Essay
An analysis of the two civilizations, Sumer and Egypt reveals one challenge facing human social
development: geography and environmental features tend to shape the patterns of civilizations.
Although the civilization of Sumer was prosperous and powerful, its geographical features
ultimately weakened Sumer, exposing its vulnerability to invasion by neighboring civilizations.
Egypt was similar to Mesopotamian civilizations in many ways, but Egypt s distinct differences led
to a distinguished social systems: government, economic, and religion that contributed to the
seemingly endless prosperity of the Egyptians.
The Sumerians eventually fell to those civilizations that prevailed with more favoring topographic
assets. Sumer was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Military was a strong aspect since Sumer had no known natural barriers. The economy used crops
as a form of money, as well as trade being important since Sumer had little natural resources.
To fully utilize natural resources, the Sumerians created many inventions that lead to evolutionary
advancements with technology. Bronze weapons were replaced with Iron, the invention of the plow
and eventual domestication of animals for agricultural purposes, and the sailboat, which was used
as a mode of transportation for the trade of goods among neighboring civilizations. Among the most
important inventions was the use of simple clay, the foundation of an organized communication
system among the Sumerians made up of symbols, known as cuneiform. The output of knowledge
by the Sumerians, despite harsh geographical circumstances, gave way as an influential role for
growth and development in other civilizations such as Egypt with the invention of hieroglyphics,
along the way.
Similar to Sumer, Egypt was referred to as a river valley civilization. Egypt was divided into two
geographical parts, Upper and Lower Egypt. Lower Egypt was located at the Delta of the Nile
River. This was the location of Egypt s major cities. Upper Egypt contained small populations for
rural farmland located more upstream. Natural Resources include stone, metals, timber, and mud.
Natural barriers for the Egyptians included

United States Border Patrol Research
The border patrol has been a major problem for many decades concerning illicit drugs entering into
the United States (Levinthal, 2012). Controlling the importation of illicit drugs is not an easy task.
Statistics confirm the combined United States border stretches approximately 7,000 miles
(Levinthal, 2012). The amount of government officials needed to monitor the importation of illicit
drugs is unimaginable. Moreover, the government has designated four agencies to reduce the
interdiction of drugs entering into United Statesterritory. The four agencies for reducing illicit drug
control in the United States, includes (1) DEA, (2) the U.S. Customs Border Protection Agency, (3)
the U.S. Coast Guard, and (4) the U.S. military (Levinthal, 2012).... Show more content on

Coast Guard and is known as the leading marine drug interdiction (Levinthal, 2012). Drug
traffickers use marine passages for importing drugs from overseas (Levinthal, 2012). According to
Levinthal (2012), statistics report six million illicit drugs arrive by sea. In addition, a new method
drug traffickers are using to import by sea is the use of semi subs, which can carry up to twelve
metric tons of cargo (Levinthal, 2012). In 2008, the Coast Guard seized seven metric tons of
Columbian cocaine due to Coast Guard s using helicopters and shooting the vessel down (Levinthal,
2012). In addition, the Office of National Drug Control Policy (1999) notes, The interagency
mission is to reduce the supply of drugs from source countries by denying smugglers the use of air
and maritime routes in the transit zone. Finally, the last effort which the government utilizes to
combat interdiction is through the U.S. Military (Levinthal, 2012). The U.S. Military is proactive
in the enforcement of illicit drug interdiction (Levinthal, 2012). The military is completely on board
with law enforcement agencies, as well as, working with governments abroad (Levinthal, 2012).
The benefits that military personnel provide include, intelligence, planning, foreign knowledge,
which allow other agencies to complete the actions needed for interdiction of the illicit drug

  • 2. Essay On Iago Shakespeare s Iago A depraved soul would generate chaos, inflict pain, and stir up trouble for its own satisfaction. Iago undoubtedly fits this description seeing that he is a sadist who attains power by annihilating others in cruel and unusual ways. In William Shakespeare s The Tragedie of Othello, the Moore of Venice, he is a sinister force which steers virtuous people towards their gruesome deaths. Furthermore, he is the core focus of this academic essay. Our antagonist is an astounding piece of work. He obstinately pleads indifference despite dedicating his entire existence for revenge. A more favorable course of action involves starting over with a clean slate but he couldn t as a result of his wounded pride. In addition, he is self destructive seeing that he allowed racial hatred to consume him and become his undoing. Even though he invents elaborate lies to be in control, he claims a reputation for honesty. He is impassive and callous then again he is a married man who presumably once loved his wife. He is not only guarded, preferring hiding his inner... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For starters, he didn t murder anyone. He simply set in motion a chain of events which led to their deaths. His competence at manipulation is quite beneficiary but insignificant without Othello s insecurities about his age, race, and lack of experience with women. Our tragic hero is an eloquent and physically powerful figure, respected by everyone. In spite of his elevated status, he allowed himself to be led astray. His trusting nature combined with his jealous, self doubting personality played an essential role in his downfall. As a matter of fact, his insecurities are so close to the surface that a few words of hint and innuendo can tear the confident exterior and expose his fears, desires, and tendency to violence. Every tragic hero has a hand in the tragedy that befalls including ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Propaganda s Influence On Napoleon Bonaparte Napoleon Bonaparte was the greatest eighteenth century French master of propaganda is beyond dispute (ch. 2, p.1). Napoleon created for himself the image of the Revolutionary hero through conscious manipulation of dispatches, correspondence, medallions, and especially, of the press (Intro, p.2). Napoleon s strategic use of propaganda rocketed him by his growth in popular press. Napoleon enlisted the help of propaganda to be a in a sense, his own squad of cheerleaders. Napoleon cleverly marketed himself to showcase his superb abilities through art, bulletins, medallions, newspapers and trinkets. Remarkably, Bonaparte learned how important propaganda was very early during his political ascension. He knew he needed a way to project himself ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 1). A type of propaganda used to persuade the masses was newspaper. Bonaparte had different propaganda newspapers, journals, bulletins for different countries but yet all propaganda still effectively praising and promoting Bonaparte. Propaganda for the Egyptian Army was Journal de Malte, the Courier de l Egypte, and La DГ©cade Г‰gyptienne. Bonaparte began experimenting with a new propaganda tool the Parisian Journal de Bonaparte et des hommes vertueux after he was captured. The Journal was a blatant purpose the promotion of Napoleon Bonaparte but also because its title could be seen as a challenge to the moral character of the government itself (ch. 3, p.2). Newspapers, journals and bulletins were used for encouragement to Bonaparte s military but he also addressed them to the public as well as naysayers. Another type of propaganda that Bonaparte used was Art. Early in his career, for example, hye fostered relationships with several scholars and with artists who promoted his reputation, not only as a victorious general but also as a man of culture and intellect (ch 4., p. 1). Art propaganda was extremely influential in Bonaparte s reputation. In projecting himself in an intellectual light, Bonaparte was able to win over leading intellectuals and influential political thinkers of France known as the Ideologues (ch. 4, ... Grading Mechanics: Assigning Letter Grades Based on a Curve Semester grades are determined by a curve. The nature of a curve is that your grade is based on your performance relative to all other students in the class. It does not involve an absolute standard, e.g., 90 100 = A, 80 90 = B, etc., which you may be used to from some other courses. I believe that a curve is ultimately the fairest way to determine grades, since it does not set some arbitrary absolute standard, but judges students on their performance relative to their peers. Husbands, sons, and fathers, most of them will never come back. As people at home mourn America s fallen heroes, we also encounter another problem. America has just joined the global battle, and it is far from being over. What will we do when we can t take any more men out of our neighborhoods, or even worse, when we run out of men to send away? Now, in 2016, the answer is obvious: women. In 1941, even suggesting such a thing was almost laughable. In 1941, we explored countless other options, none of which were even reasonable. Some schools did allow women to attend, but only the wealthy. It wasn t until around 1980 that women were reported as receiving higher education to the same extent as men. Science and mathematics were thought to be too hard for women to do, so those subjects were left for the men to study. Often times, women were denied degrees that they had rightfully studied for and earned. It was even said that women would have too hard of a time trying to cope with the vigorous studying routines that came with a college education. Meanwhile, men earned degrees, and attending a university was viewed as a very honorable path to take. This is not to say that women didn t go to school at all. Most went to grammar school when they were young, but stopped when they became teenagers to help at home and prepare for adult life. • 7. Examples Of Innate Knowledge Innate knowledge is knowledge or awareness of something from time of birth. Knowledge is a cognizance, familiarity, understanding or skills that someone earn from experience or education. In philosophy, some philosophers like Aristotle and Plato, argue that wisdom is inborn in the human mind while the other said that knowledge is a compilation of experiences in life. But do we really have innate knowledge? Even though there has been a discussion for years that a new born child is more like a tabula rasa, (a blank slate) It is somewhat conspicuous that some things are inborn and others are learnt through experience. Many don t consider that innate knowledge exists. However, Instinct can count as innate. In the theory of recollection by Plato, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While we were there we went shopping at Tanger Outlets and we went to The Haunted Lost Cavern at Top Of The Rock. Now in the essay below you will read about my memorable journey with my friend Tovah. It was seven o clock so when we got there so we just watched TV then went to bed. The next day, we went shopping at Tanger Outlets and while we were there we got some awesome fudge. We went to Bath and Body and I bought six bottles of hand sanitizer and gave one to Tovah. I also bought a hand sanitizer holder and it came with two so I gave one to Tovah and I kept one for myself. When we were done shopping we ate lunch then went back to the cabin. We started a fire in the fireplace but the vent was closed so the cabin filled up with smoke that made Tovah sleepy so she took a nap. When it was about nine o clock, we woke her up and we went to Top Of The Rock. We were there to go to the Haunted Lost Cavern. We only had to wait a little bit until we could get on the bus to go to the cavern. On the way down a few people scare you. When you get to around the area of the cavern, people are there so they can take your picture. When you first get in there s a crazy lady chases you around with a fake leg. Flexibility and balance are the center of gymnastics, it makes up most of this sport. Gymnasts are always trying to figure out how to become more flexible and make their movements smoother. With flexibility, gymnasts are able to achieve very specific positions. An experiment was done a few years ago, highly experienced gymnasts participated in certain exercises to see if their flexibility in split leaps would increase. This experiment lasted for about one month. During this experiment, there was an issue that was to be faced: the gymnasts were already at their highest flexibility, they were already highly trained on their flexibility. Therefore, there was an expectation of very little improvement in the flexibility of their split leaps. The study consisted of the use of Thera band elastic strips. The color of Thera band elastic strips that the gymnasts received were based on the stiffness of each strip (each color has a different level of stiffness). • 11. Thomas Hooker And Reverend Samuel Stone The history of Hartford begins with Thomas Hooker s arrival in Newtown (later renamed Cambridge) Massachusetts where he became a pastor of one of the earliest established churches there. However, voting in Massachusetts was limited to freemen or limited to people who had been formally interrogated on their religious views and experiences. Hooker disagreed with these limitations and their influential pastor, John Cotton. So, Thomas Hooker and Reverend Samuel Stone led a group of one hundred people in 1636 and founded the settlement of Hartford. Which then led to the founding of the ConnecticutColony and Hookers increased involvement in politics. On January 14, 1639 freemen from the three colonies that made up the Connecticut Colony sat down and ratified the Fundamental Orders of Connecticut which was called the first written constitution known to history that created a government. It marked the beginnings of American democracy, of which Thomas Hooker deserves more than any other man to be called the father. The government of the United States today is in lineal descent more nearly related to that of Connecticut than to that of any of the other thirteen colonies (John Fiske). Having been founded on such prestige Hartford has seen some of the greatest successes and some of the worst failures. • 13. International News Coverage On Indian English Print Media... International News Coverage in Indian English Print Media Dailies A Qualitative Content Analysis of The Times of India, The Hindu and The Indian Express Introduction India is home to one of the largest, most diverse print media sectors in the world. With a whopping 82237 newspapers registered as of 2012, out of which a staggering 11,478 are in English, the Indian media seems to be thriving and feeding an incredible number of people information every single day. Despite these overwhelmingly positive numbers, a lot of concerns have risen regarding the actual content of newspapers. Arguments of commercialization and paid journalism (which are rampant) aside, there has been some discontent regarding the lack of coverage of International Issues in the Indian Media, particularly Indian Newspapers. To put things into perspective, one can look no further than the Syrian Crisis that is still raging just yonder and look first at the general ignorance of the average Indian how many are actually aware of one of the greatest crimes against humanity that is currently underway? The Three Main Theories of Deviance and Their Strengths and Weaknesses A functionalist analysis of deviance looks for the source of deviance in the nature of society rather than in the biological or psychological nature of the individual. Although functionalists agree that social control mechanisms such as the police and the courts are necessary to keep deviance in check, many argue that a certain amount of deviance can contribute to the well being of society. Durkhiem (1895) believed that: * Crime is an integral part of all healthy societies . This is because individuals are exposed to different influences and will not be committed to the shared values and beliefs of society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the USA, members of society strive for the goal of success, largely measured in terms of wealth and material possessions. The means of reaching this goal are through talent, ambition and effort. Unfortunately, Merton argues, little importance is given to the means of achieving success. The result is an unbalanced society where winning is all and the rules are not very important. This situation of normlessness is known as anomie. Individuals may respond in different ways: В· Conformity The most common response is conformity. Conformists strive for success through the accepted channels. В· Innovation People from lower classes may have few qualifications and turn to crime to achieve material success. В· Ritualism Some people, particularly from the lower middle classes, may abandon the ultimate goal of wealth but continue to conform to the standards of the middle class respectability. В· Retreatism Retreatists are drop outs who have rejected both the shared value of success and the means provided to achieve it. When we think of romance novels, one s first thought might be of the kind we see at the newsstand while waiting to check out at the grocery store. Visions of a white knight like Fabio whisking away the fair damsel in distress. Romance novels for the young adult are appealing because many romantic symbols relate directly to what they re experiencing both physically and emotionally in their lives; that of youthfulness and hope. The protagonist of Izzy, Willy Nilly is Isobel Lingard, a/k/a Izzy; a 15 year old sophomore, who is a popular girl at school. When asked out by a senior, Marco Griggers, she becomes the envy of her friends. The ironic thing is that she wasn t even that interested in him, personally. It was more the fact that ... She looked like a bad imitation of the dying swan, her leg and a half stuck out and her head bowed down. Little Izzy put her hands over her face, wanting to disappear into the gray darkness of depression that was swallowing her alive. Romance literature for young adults uses the characteristic of exaggeration to express a variety of emotions to its reader. This normally is accomplished in a fast paced plot, where the characters are few and the narrative events and language flow quickly while still presenting dramatic images. In Izzy, Willy Nilly, all of the different incidents with Izzy s girlfriends and the townspeople help to portray how society has a tendency to only look at things from a superficial view. Izzy originally thinks the same way when Rosamunde first enters her life. Rosamunde is different than anyone Izzy has ever known. First of all, they do not match all six characteristics of life, which explain that living things are made of cells, they reproduce with DNA, grow and develop, use energy, respond, and evolve. To start off, growth involves increasing an organism s size through the increase of cells. A virusis unicellular, so it does not grow. The definition of development is the regular and predictable series of changes that occur during an organism s life. The Norwich Textile Industry The confinement to his cabin for six weeks of the Edinburgh born John Miller, the fifth officer on board the East India Company ship Marquis Camden, by a tyrant of a ship s master seems an unlikely starting point to a project on the Norwich textile industry, especially as Miller had nothing to do directly with the city s trade. Sometime after the publication in 2008 of Captain Miller s autobiography Chronometer Jack which I co edited when working in Glasgow, Geoffrey and Margaret Nobbs, volunteers at Great Yarmouths Time and Time Museum, contacted me to say they had transcribed the Marquis Camden s log book which recorded Miller s detention. Later, they enthusiastically told me about the German born Norwichmaster weaver John Christopher... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While I developed the research, Geoffrey and Margaret Nobbs transcribed a large numbers of documents for me, particularly those relating to Ireland s considerable yarn trade with Norwich, and to Stannard Taylor, merchant manufacturers in St Giles Street. Besides the pattern books and the shipping databases, I created others relating to textile occupations, the Irish yarn trade, John Taylor s yarn factoring business in Muspole Street, Stannard Taylor s European and South American trade in Norwich stuffs, the Gurneys marine insurance business which covered textile exports, prosecutions of spinners, reelers and putters out, the work of weavers, and so on. To add to this work, David Cubitt generously sent me many articles he had transcribed from the local press concerning various trades from hotpresser to heavel and sley (heddle and reed) maker, to dyer, and to weaver. West Side Story Play Analysis West Side Story is about a conflict between two rival gangs, the Jets and the Sharks, which comes to a head when Tony, a former Jets member, and Maria, the sister of the leader of the Sharks, fall in love. Although the play centers around Tony and Maria, the character of Anita (played by Karli Dinardo) caught my eye since she revealed her purple dress which was different from the reds of the Sharks and blues of the Jets and I found myself drawn to her in each scene she was present in. I also found myself drawn to members of the Sharks as I understood the racism they faced from members of the Jets, Officer Krupke, and Detective Schrank. The orchestra ability to match the emotions of the song or scene was very beneficial in letting the audience know of Tony and Maria s undying love for each other in Tonight through the use of light and upbeat notes or Anita s anger in A Boy Like Thatwhich uses harsher notes. The effects of the characters emotions would not have been as evident if the instrumentals they sang along too didn t match the emotions they felt. Genetic, environmental and behavioural risk factors are considered responsible for the predisposition of T2DM [2]. With the progression of this disease, the patient eventually develops various short and long term complications. Thus, the patient has to undergo multiple therapies, which reduces the quality of life as well as the life expectancy [3]. The demographic data suggests that more than 400 million of population, across the globe are currently suffering from this disease. In 2012, the death toll is upto 1.5 million due to T2DM and 2.2 million people died due to high blood glucose level [4]. The major problem with this disease is that it cannot be completely cured, but the symptoms and complications can be controlled with diet, exercise, medicines and health monitoring. This subsequently lands the patient on lifetime medication that involves a huge cost. In 2012, the American Diabetes Association released a letter suggesting an annual expenditure of $245 billion for diabetes, which includes a direct medical cost of $176 billion and $69 billion in reduced productivity [5]. This form of violence is by no means new and culturally the problem itself does not discriminate, there is no specific criteria that completely omits one from becoming a victim of domestic violence. The dynamics of domestic violence consist of the aggressor utilizing violence to maintain dominance and control over the victim. The victimization that is consistent with domestic violence can come in various forms including, physical, sexual, psychological, mental/emotional, and financial. Domestic violence victimization is a cycle that usually is difficult to terminate by many victims as well as aggressors. Individuals involved in abusive relationships continue to remain in them for various reasons such as, maintaining financial stability, desire or hope that things will change overtime, fear that their abuser, will further harm them for leaving the relationship, embarrassment of their situation, or there may be children involved and the victims wants to avoid some of the harsh realities associated with a broken home. Firstly, seeing Rick Deckard genuinely, utterly helpless, perhaps even pathetically desperate for his life, is an interesting contrast to most other protagonist characterizations. Yet here we have Deckard slipping from the building, helpless to stop his fate. His desperation was a well executed parallel to the desperation of the villain, Roy Batty. Broadly speaking, both financial instruments enable one to invest in corporations, public and/or private, with possible profitable returns in the future. Stocks (or shares), by definition, are shares of ownership in a company. By purchasing stocks in a company, the investor becomes a part owner, and thereby owns a percentage share of the company s after tax profits. Concurrently, the S P 500 had gained 4.8%, rebounding 40% from March lows. Though stocks have statistically delivered higher returns in the long term compared to bonds, bond prices are less volatile. The dividends paid out on stocks are uncertain and depend on the distributable profits of the company, the company s investment plans and cash needs for the same, and other such factors. On the other hand, bonds generally make a pre specified interest payout to all bondholders periodically, thereby ensuring an assured, known cash inflow in the hands of a bond holder. Further, on maturity of the bond, a pre determined principal amount is paid out by the issuer to the bondholder, to purchase back the bond. Hence, a bondholder who holds the bond to maturity, knows exactly how much he /she will receive both by way of interest as well as principal on maturity. The cathode is a normal cathode is made up of negatively charge small coil wire called filaments, which is housed in focusing cup. The filament is negatively charged coil of wire which becomes heated when the electrical current passes through and when that energy becomes enough to expel the electrons from the filament its called Thermionic Emission. The business cycle for the Automotive Industry is filled with long product cycles and large sums of capital investments. The long cycles of products and the large capital requirements make planning in the automotive industry quite complex. Furthermore, the automotive industry outcomes are highly dependent on the global economic state. For example, as mentioned in a PWC article, In 2015, [Automotive industry results] turned sour as global economic conditions worsened. This trend makes any new commitment to invest in a country or region a risky one that must be deliberately crafted using a clear eyed assessment of market conditions. (Jullens, Singh, Hirsh, Wilk, 2016) Thus, from the business cycle, it can be presumed that the automotive industry is foremost a growth industry but at a secondary level it is a cyclical growth, making it a Cyclical Growth Industry. Potentials for the automotive industry are more prominent in eco friendly initiatives and technological improvements for vehicular automation. For example, Tesla has been a company that has really sought to revolutionize the automotive industry by introducing cars that are more environmentally friendly. Furthermore, as mentioned, in a PWC article, the intelligent car is fast moving from the drawing boards to the streets (Jullens, Singh, Hirsh, Wilk, 2016). This intelligent car, while ... • 43. The Combustion of Polymers Introduction The history of polymers stretch back millions of years. These primitive polymers were created by nature to fulfill the needs of information storage, energy storage and information reproduction. Human made polymers are a more recent invention, of the last two hundred years or so. These polymers are general made of highly flammable hydrocarbons and their derivatives. Fires caused by a combination of human careless and the physical properties of hydrocarbons have caused millions of dollars in property damage and claimed an untold number of human lives. It is this fact that has lead to scientists devoting time and resources to making polymers safer. In the following paragraphs the mechanism behind burning polymers will be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This dehydrates the polymer, forming the protective carbon layer. At higher temperatures the phosphoric acid can help in the generation of cross linked species and can under go polymerization to form polyphosphates. Which react with the cross linked species to form the char layer. Borated species work the same way, they form a glassy surface that helps protect and insulate the substrate. The final pathway that will be investigated is the suppression of radical species in the reaction space. This is done by introducing halogenated hydrocarbons and an inorganic enhancer into the polymer. When the polymer burns, halogen radicals are released into the gas phase. The halogen reacts with hydrogen, to form a hydrogen halide. Finally, this species reacts with either hydrogen or oxygen radical to form hydrogen gas or water vapor, respectfully. From this series of reactions the halogen radical is regenerated, where it reacts with either the polymer substrate or more gaseous hydrogen to form hydrogen halide. The halogen radicals are at a lower energy than either the hydrogen or oxygen radical species. The effectiveness of this method is dependent on the halogen used. Bromine is the most common due to it narrow temperature activation range. Chlorine is the next most common but due to a broad temperature range is not as useful. Florine and ... • 44. Disadvantages Of Strawberry Legs Strawberry legs: Spoiler! How to get rid of it? What Are Strawberry Legs? Try observing a strawberry. Do you see the small seeds they have? You can notice black pores on your legs after shaving that look similar. That is why this condition is called strawberry legs. Sometimes the pores are hardly noticeable, and other times, they are so conspicuous that you start feeling self conscious to show off your legs. What are the causes of strawberry legs? Listed below are some potential causes of dark spots on legs: Sun Exposure Sun exposure is the top cause of dark spots on legs and other exposed parts of the skin. Our skin contains special cells called melanocytes. These cells produce a pigment called melanin. Melanin determines the color of our skin, eyes, and hair. Dark skinned individuals, for example, have higher levels of melanin in the skin than their counterparts with light skin. Melanin also helps to protect the skin against sun damage. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because melanin is not always produced uniformly, a condition known as hyperpigmentation often occurs. This is manifested by dark spots on legs and other parts of the body. These spots are referred to as sun spots, age spots, liver spots, or solar lentigines. Hyperpigmentation can affect anyone regardless of the race or skin color. Hormonal changes e.g. during pregnancy tend to enhance hyperpigmentation. It is thus even more imperative to protect your skin while pregnant. Aging For most people, old age means years of accumulated sun damage. This usually manifests itself in dark spots on legs, arms, and other exposed parts of the skin in old age. These patches tend to appear after 40 years. • 46. Thomas Hobbes Argues That Reason Is Both A Cause Of War Thomas Hobbes argues that reason is both a cause of war and a cause of peace. It is a cause of war because reason obeys the law of nature and human exercise the right of nature rationally will inevitably lead everyone to war. It is a cause of peace because the state of war is a bad place for everyone to function the law of their nature. Thus reasonleads to a better but more vulnerable conditional state that is the state of peace. In this paper, I will explain this dual role of reason in Hobbes theory. I will do so by first explain what is the law of nature and what is the right of nature, and how does reason obey the law of nature inevitably lead human to war. Then I will explain the three rational laws that lead human to peace.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We fight to acquire what we desire, to defend what we have acquired or to acquire or defend our reputation. But in the states of war, we are not able to preserve our life well. Thus to preserve one s life, reason makes human wants peace. The first law is saying: every man ought to endeavor peace, as far as he has the hope of obtaining it, and when he can t obtain it, that he may seek and use all help and advantages of war. Which means if possible, peace is a choice of reason. However, making peace requires everyone to lay down parts of his rights. Thus we have the second law claiming that in the state of peace, a man is willing, when others are willing too and when the man is still able to defense himself, to lay down his right to all things and be content with so much liberty against other men, as he would allow other men against himself. Hobbs believes the only way to make peace is to lay down one s rights because as discussed in the previous part: retain the right of nature inevitably leads to war. But one could only lay down his rights while others are doing so as well because if he is the only one who is disarmed, he simply made himself a prey to his armed competitors and will be taken advantage of, which is not allowed by reason. Things could go smoothly if two people sign a contract and lay down their rights simultaneously. However, when they are signing a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Challenges of Development in Sumer and Egypt Essay An analysis of the two civilizations, Sumer and Egypt reveals one challenge facing human social development: geography and environmental features tend to shape the patterns of civilizations. Although the civilization of Sumer was prosperous and powerful, its geographical features ultimately weakened Sumer, exposing its vulnerability to invasion by neighboring civilizations. Egypt was similar to Mesopotamian civilizations in many ways, but Egypt s distinct differences led to a distinguished social systems: government, economic, and religion that contributed to the seemingly endless prosperity of the Egyptians. The Sumerians eventually fell to those civilizations that prevailed with more favoring topographic assets. Sumer was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Military was a strong aspect since Sumer had no known natural barriers. The economy used crops as a form of money, as well as trade being important since Sumer had little natural resources. To fully utilize natural resources, the Sumerians created many inventions that lead to evolutionary advancements with technology. Bronze weapons were replaced with Iron, the invention of the plow and eventual domestication of animals for agricultural purposes, and the sailboat, which was used as a mode of transportation for the trade of goods among neighboring civilizations. Among the most important inventions was the use of simple clay, the foundation of an organized communication system among the Sumerians made up of symbols, known as cuneiform. The output of knowledge by the Sumerians, despite harsh geographical circumstances, gave way as an influential role for growth and development in other civilizations such as Egypt with the invention of hieroglyphics, along the way. Similar to Sumer, Egypt was referred to as a river valley civilization. Egypt was divided into two geographical parts, Upper and Lower Egypt. Lower Egypt was located at the Delta of the Nile River. This was the location of Egypt s major cities. Upper Egypt contained small populations for rural farmland located more upstream. Natural Resources include stone, metals, timber, and mud. In addition, a new method drug traffickers are using to import by sea is the use of semi subs, which can carry up to twelve metric tons of cargo (Levinthal, 2012). In 2008, the Coast Guard seized seven metric tons of Columbian cocaine due to Coast Guard s using helicopters and shooting the vessel down (Levinthal, 2012). In addition, the Office of National Drug Control Policy (1999) notes, The interagency mission is to reduce the supply of drugs from source countries by denying smugglers the use of air and maritime routes in the transit zone.
