There has always been something up with the rights and roles women have in
society. They receive objectification for almost everything they attempt and are told
to fit into these roles that men aren t even asked to try. We are told and taught from

trying to look good for our own confidence, and are shut down for trying to dress the
way we want because of a lack of modesty. The way women dress is highly

channels. Often we ask ourselves, how can a person be so heartless and cruel? We

built upon what Leo IX had already done. Nicholas and a council produced the
Lateran synod of April 1059. The synod ended clerical marriage and established
clergy celibacy. It also added to the strict prevention of simony. Also with the
synod, Nicholas and the council made two major decisions that would shape the
papacy up until today. The first of these decisions was to condemn the practice of
lay investiture. The ritual by which a lay prince invested a priest or bishop with
the insignia of his office suggested that the ecclesiastical authority was subordinate
