Ten shales samples obtained in X Formation, Afikpo Basin and were subjected to geochemical
analysis to determine the TOC , SOM and Rock eval pyrolysis. The TOC values varied from 0.6
7.36 % 1.60w% 1.80w% with an average of 1.66w%, while the SOM values ranged from 100 380
% . Tmax range from 442 462 . The above results show that the TOC values fall above the
minimum threshold for hydrocarbon generation potential. The minimum threshold value for TOC
is 0.5%. The average SOM value is also indicative of good source rock potential for the studied
samples. The Tmax values in the study area shows that the sediments are immature and have not
reached the oil generation phase, but are within the gas phase. The organic matter quantity is
adequate for sediments to yield hydrocarbon whereas the organic matter quality is inadequate to
expel hydrocarbon.

shows three children on the adventure of their life. But, Barrie s Peter Pan is the exemplar of the
childhood horror experience because of the actions of the characters of Mr. and Mrs. Darling, the
actions of the character Captain James Hook, and the dangers inherent of being a child in this
anarchistic place called Neverland. With a name like Darling one may assume that the holder of

On September 24, 2016 I had the privilege of visiting the USS Midway Historical Museum. My
friend Michelle, who is also a CBU student, accompanied me while we explored this fantastic
site. I was recommended to tour the USS Midway by my German foreign exchange student who
was able to visit the attraction a couple weeks earlier. Niels emphasized how much he enjoyed
his visit and explained that it was a shame that I had not been there earlier, due to the fact that I
live so close to San Diego. It was Niel s advice, paired with my prior interest in the history of this
battleship that inspired me to finally see it for myself.
Michelle and I arrived on a beautiful San Diego day at North Harbor Drive near the Coronado
Broadway Pier. We parked somewhat far away because it was a busy day on the harbor. Walking
towards the ship, we witnessed street performers doing all sorts of entertaining things that created
a fun atmosphere. Some were blowing up balloons for kids, while others were playing their
instruments, filling the air with a sweet melody. Walking along this beautiful parkway, looking out

Beyond the Mason Jar is not just a magazine, it is a project that I put a significant amount of
thought and passion into. The Zero Waste Movement is a movement that I actively participate in
and deeply value in my life. I certainly did not want to write a magazine about something I had
no prior interest in. Not to say that creating a magazine about completely new information
wouldn t be interesting in some way, but rather that I was able to really invest myself into the

I included a quote by Mother Teresa that I love and felt accurately expressed my purpose for the
magazine. I love her use of the analogy, I can cast a stone .... to create many ripples. I think one
of the things that I lot of people either in or joining the ZWM is the struggle for perfection and
impact (myself included). It can be really daunting when you see pictures of waterways
overwhelmed by plastic debris in other developing countries or a video of a plastic straw stuck
in the nose of a poor sea turtle (that is another story in itself). I think it is vital for the readers to
realize that we can only do so much to aid in situations like those. However, I want to show them
that the ripples we cast do make a difference. I have found that to be very true in my life. Every
time someone tells me they think of me because of some plastic they threw away or something
they did to be more sustainable, the fire in my heart grows exponentially. That is the power that I
want the reader to realize they have. Next, the couple of advertisements that I included in my
magazine are sort of akin to transitions. I created both of them from products that I use in my life
and paired them with rather bleak statistics to persuade the reader to think twice about the
