The Power Of Picture Books In Integrating Literature In...
Columba, Kim, and Moe (2009) in The Power of Picture Books in Teaching Math, Science, and Social
Studies and Kane (2008) in Integrating Literature in the Content Areas proposed using literature to
teach the content areas. Using literature humanizes math, science, and social studies for children and
parents, providing a new method of communication, and stimulating interest, enjoyment, and
confidence (Columba et al., 2009). Additionally, it enables the teaching of content from multiple
perspectives, motivating students to discover the love of learning from challenging sources (Kane,
2008). Kane (2008) explained that 40 percent of high school graduates lack the literacy skills
necessary for employment. By teaching effective literacy strategies in content area learning, teachers
can foster deeper understandings of texts and increase students ability to generate ideas and
knowledge for their own uses (Kane, 2008, p. 3). Using literature in the content areas to increase

The Vietnam Era Essay
The Vietnam Era HUMN 303N: Introduction to Humanities Professor Stacey Donald DeVry
University During the decades prior to the eighties the two most important issues the U.S. was facing
were the war in Vietnam and civil rights. This era changed the way the public was able view the
events, there was television and photography which allowed the world to see for the first time what
war was about and journalism was not always unbiased. This era was an era of advancement, where
many protested the war, there were the civil rights movement activists striving to gain equality for all

Let s also keep in mind that the Vietnam War was the first war to receive such extensive media
coverage ever. The era of the Vietnam War was not only a time of war abroad but also in our own
country, a war against poverty and inequality. People of color were fighting for their rights to be seen
as equals in the labor force, education, and in the military. One of the famous leaders of the civil rights
movement was Martin Luther King Jr. who was backed by President Lyndon B, Johnson. President
LBJ was interested in creating welfare programs that would benefit those in poverty and give them
hope, he was all about creating a level playing field to create opportunities that would benefit society
as a whole. According to the Virginia Historical Society there was a piece written by P. B. Young,
editor of the Norfolk Journal and Guide, a newspaper at the time, wrote a few touching words to
Liberals, Help us get some of the blessings of democracy here at home before you jump on the free
other peoples band wagon and tell us to go forth and die in a foreign land. To add to this President
Roosevelt s wife, Eleanor, said The nation cannot expect the colored people to feel that the U.S. is
worth defending if they continue to be treated as they are treated now. Despite of the discrimination
that young black men faced in the military it was still a better option than being unemployed and
living in poverty.

Untranslatability from English to Romanian
INTRODUCTION The need for translation has always existed since the appearance of the human
being on the Earth. Translation is not only a way to explain what a language said to another, it is also a
way to present one culture to another. As to the notion of culture, Edward Burnett Tylor considers that
, culture...is that complex whole which includes knowledge, belief, art, morals, law, customs and many
other capabilities and habits acquired by man as a member of society . This definition covers almost
every aspect of human s life and lays at the basis of most modern anthropological conceptions of
culture. Putting it simply, culture is rooted in history, it represents all the main peculiarities of a certain
group of people, it is defined by language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts. In the
process of translation culture cannot be ignored. Each culture is unique, as a result, its language is also
unique, so when translating from one language into another we come across unique problems. It is
commonly considered that understanding the culture of a country is only by understanding what
people of that country are saying or writing. However, in practice, the fact that language is rooted in
culture is often forgotten. The bigger the cultural difference, the more difficult is to translate the
culture bound concepts. Dealing with untranslatable terms is not an easy task at all, it requires a lot of
knowledge, professionalism and even

Impact Of Computer In Medicine And Medicine
Computers and Medicine
Technology is vital to society in today s age and it affects almost every single thing that goes on in a
person s daily life. I believe technology has spread to nearly every field, even if it is a minor use of it.
Transportation, conversation, banking, and even working places have some sort of technology with it
now. But what is going to be discussed in this Wiki is the impact that technology and computers have
made with medicine and healthcare.
The creation of technology changed the way healthcare is being received, and even organized. The
introduction of electronic medical records, to finding cures that humans thought would not be
possible, healthcare has changed right in front of everyone s eyes. Let s discuss what exactly a
computer is and how technology is changing in the field of healthcare and medicine.
What is a computer?
According to dictionary.com, a computer is a programmable device that reads data, performs
calculations, and outputs the results of the data.
How are computers used by doctors to deal with medical efforts?
In today s age, computers help patients and the hospital communicate together for reasons, such as
booking appointments at home or in office, sending medical prescriptions to pharmacy, or just in
house communication between doctors and nurses. The introduction of electronic medical records has
allowed doctors and nurses to get rid of paper work and have all electronic documents for easier
access and storage. Many

Marketing Discourse Community Analysis
As a Marketing major at Roger Williams University, I am involved with a lot of activities on campus.
More importantly, I am a part of a marketing discourse community. A discourse community is a group
of people who share a common interest in a subject. This subject uses language, terms and problems
foreign to other people not in the community. Marketing at RWU is used for everything that we use
today, and there is a lot of psychology work behind it. Together I believe that all students in a class
create a discourse community with their professors. Every class is specific to a course that is being
taught and uses language that is specific to the class. I believe the most important one is the marketing
discourse community. For a marketing major, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

San Diego Wildfires
San Diego Wildfires: Smoke and Ash Debris a Public Health Concern
San Diego Wildfires
The county of San Diego is a unique haven to hundreds of state and federally recognized endangered,
threatened, or rare plant and animal species (The Nature Conservancy, n.d.). San Diego is also a
territory with a long history of environmentally catastrophic wildfires. The Cedar and Witch Creek
Fires are two of the most recent and notorious wildfires in California history for their degree of
damage in terms of acreage burned and overall expense (The City of San Diego, n.d.). During and
after these massive wildfire events is a significant public health concern related to respiratory health
from the effects of smoke and ash debris. The challenges presented in mitigating and managing these
health issues extends into county budget, public education, and cohesive multi agency prevention and
recovery efforts. Moreover, participatory efforts from the residents of San Diego County is key to the
success of mitigating health risks presented by wildfire smoke and ash debris (Phillips, 2009, p. 420).
Background
The Cedar Fire (2003) was one of the largest and deadliest wildland fires in California history burning
nearly 300,000 acres in San Diego County and killing 15, including 1 firefighter. A lost hiker
accidently set this fire from survival methods attempted with a flare. It resulted in evacuations of
thousands of San Diego residents and destroyed approximately 2400 homes (CALFIRE, 2016). The

Compare And Contrast The Hero Journey In The Count Of...
Hero Journey Comparison Contrast Essay A hero is often thought as someone who saves lives and
does admirable acts. This is not always the case as we see in The Count of Monte Cristo, where
Edmond Dantes is wrongly accused of a crime and sent to imprisonment for life. He is stripped of his
freedom and all he owns and rises to the top with only a goal in mind that he keeps dear to his heart.
In The Alchemist, Santiago seeks to find treasure and on his journey, he finds his true love. This is
very similar to The Odyssey when Odysseus is on the desperate search for treasure and finds that what

Margaret Cavendish And The Scientific Revolution
One of the most prolific eras in our world s history is the Scientific Revolution. During this time men
began to think outside the realm of possibility and delved themselves deep into the exciting unknown
world of science. The innovative minds of these people churned out inventions like gunpowder and
the printing press, as well as, inventive new ways of thinking like the scientific method. Aside from
the inventors and innovators, there were also the publicists and writers without whom no one would
know or understand the new ideas of the time. One such person was Margaret Cavendish who was
born and raised in England. She received the same education that a lady during her time did. However,
due to her husband, Sir Charles Cavendish, she was exposed to the world of science. The subject
intrigued her so much that she ended up publishing her own theory on atoms. Though her atomic
theory contains many scientific Renaissance ideals, it is still seen as a major contribution of thought
during the Scientific Revolution.
To begin with, in order to understand the philosophies of Margaret Cavendish one must also
understand the Scientific Revolution. The Scientific Revolution was a revolution in both thought and
methodology. During the Renaissance science comprised of the organic theories of the magicians and

CSS. Just save those files before editing them. For instance, you may add the following to the top of
your file:

what exactly is rock? Rock is a popular music genre that develop from rock and roll during the mid
late 1960s in the United States. In addition, rock and roll comes from multiple music genres, such as
blues, jazz, and country music. During the 1960s, rock music itself took United States by storm,
because it affected many people, especially the young generation. It was a cultural phenomenon. One

In fact, there are several artists that had helped changed the way rock music is by adding new elements
to the music genre. For example, the Beatles is one main group that had revolutionize the rock genre
itself. For many years, rock music had been centered and surrounded by singles (one song), instead of
centered around albums. When the Beatles released their eighth album called Sgt. Pepper s Lonely
Hearts Club Band in 1967, it transformed the rock music industry to be more albums orientated.
Another famous artist that probably made as big of an impact or even bigger than the Beatles is Elvis
Presley. Elvis is the definition of early rock, because he was a musical and cultural icon who not only
helped shaped rock music itself, but also helped influence people around the world in many ways,
such as people s everyday fashion and attitude. Finally, it comes to John Mayer who is more of a
modern artist that also helped evolve rock music. He helped make an impact in rock music thru his
blue style guitar playing and having that pop rock sounding in his songs. This is what made John
Mayer an icon in the music

Analysis Of Gone With The Wind
Gone with the Wind is a 1939 movie directed by Victor Fleming and starring Clark Gable, Vivien
Leigh, and Olivia De Havilland. The film follows the life of Scarlett O Hara (Leigh), a young
Georgian woman, and her pursuits of romance and wealth during the Civil War and Reconstruction.
She faces the challenges of rebuilding her family s plantation and finding love while the man she
wants to pursue already married. This film falls into the genres of historical and romance. Historical
films are characterized simply by the fact that they are set in an earlier time period, usually one that is
far enough in the past that it can be distinguished from the time period the movie is produced in. Most
often, the era a historical film is set in is one that has a particular key event that sets the time period. In
the case of Gone with the Wind, the film is set around the Civil War, which holds a key part in much
of the plot and impacts the characters lives. Romance films have a plot that revolves around the
attraction between two main characters rather than having the romantic relationships be a subplot. The
typical romantic film tropes that can be found in Gone with the Wind are Scarlett s unrequited love,
bordering on obsession, for Ashley and her marriage to Rhett which was portrayed as if they were
both to find happiness with each other, but ultimately only found more conflict.
The historical aspects of this film revolves not only around the Civil War itself, but also the idealized

Rotary Youth Leadership Analysis
The Rotary Youth Leadership Awards has a special place in my heart because I feel that it has truly
changed my life. When I arrived at RYLA for the first time I had no idea what to expect and as I

safe to say that it can truly change a young persons life. The meaning of leadership can vary
depending on the person but to me leadership is the way a person, or group, leads a group of people in
a task. Everyone has their own form of leadership but I personally prefer to lead by example as well as
consult with the group before I make a decision. I feel that with this form of leadership I will never be

The Terminal Stage of the Unification of Germany Essay
At the turn of the 20th century, the nations of Europe had been largely at peace with one another for
nearly 30 years. Yet in a little more than a decade, a massive war engulfed Europe and spread across
the globe. WWI was initiated by the Nationalistic feeling from the multifarious nations, leading to the
rise of militarism and Imperialism, which ultimately guided to the organization of the alliance systems
between the nations. In the late 1800s, the idea of nationalism swept across the continent of Europe
that steered about the Great War such as Russian supporting the Slavic peoples, assassination of
Archduke, and unification of Germany. With the increasing desire for independence, the Slavic
peoples in Bosnia and Herzegovina no longer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the technological advancements form the previous centuries, the nations began to enhance their
army and military power in order to glorify their nations; hence creating the Von Schlieffen Plan,
German naval law, and Trans Siberian Express. After the assassination of Archduke, war disrupted
between the Russians and the Germans. Meanwhile, the Germans were in war with the French, so in
an attempt to battle two nations at once, the Germans applied the Von Schlieffen Plan. The Strategy
was to defeat France rapidly then turn to the eastern front for a major offensive on Russia (Dowswell,
35). In 1898 Germany established the naval law which they began making a naval force that was
immense enough to challenge the British navy. In 1906, the British navy launched the Dreadnought,
the first modern battleship; the Dreadnought had greater firepower that any other ship of its time;
Germany rushed to construct on just like it (McCarthy, 369). In the region of Asia, the Russians
fortified their military transportation by building the Trans Siberian Express. In 1891, Russia began to
construct the Trans Siberian Railroad connecting Moscow and Vladivostok; originally, in the east, the
Russians secured Chinese permission to build a line directly across Manchuria (the Chinese Eastern
Railway) from the Transbaikal region to Vladivostok; this trans Manchurian line was completed in
1901; it was used to transport Russian soldiers for military purposes and further

Persuasive Essay On Women In The Military
Did you know that women could be drafted to combat? I believe that women should all get the chance
to fight if they want to. There are tons of women that are in combat. They all join for different reasons,
some join just to see what it s like, and some join because they want to represent their country. During
the Civil War more than 400 women went into the army disguising themselves as men, just do that
they could fight in the war. If women can dress up as men and go to war and fight for our country then
i feel like we should give them the right to do it. In 2011 there was about 203,000 women in the
United States Military. Some people think that women aren t capable of doing it, or that she won t be
able to do it. Women going into the combat know that it is not an easy thing and are up to the
challenge. But to me I think that if she thinks she can do it and is up for the challenge that we should
believe that she can doing it to. In 1948 President Truman helped make a separate military service for
women. If a women can show that she is capable in a boot camp then why shouldn t she be able to
fight for our country.
For women to be in the Military it might be tougher meaning guys naturally have more muscle, but if
a women had their mindset on doing it, no one should tell her that is isn t allowed to because she isn t
a guy. Today women have so much more freedom than what they used to have. Many people think that
women won t be aggressive during the war and that s why they should not be able to be a part of
something as great as it. I think that women will be aggressive when it comes to the real fight because
they know that if they don t they could most likely be killed. Going into the military women know that
they have a chance of not coming out. Solveig Krey was the first woman commander of a Norwegian
submarine in 1995. For years women have been filling in combat roles. After being in the war and
killing another human being those images stay in your head, or well for Leigh Ann Hester, she still
thinks about it every single day. March of 2005 Hester s Kentucky National Guard Military Police
squad of eight men and two women, 11 people total, escorted the convoy on the southeast of Baghdad

Mahatma Gandhi And Nelson Mandela
If Mahatma Gandhi never inspired Nelson Mandela to fulfill his vision for human rights, would
Nelson Mandela have inspired Barack Obama to continue that legacy? Mahatma Gandhi practiced
civil disobedience and lobbied for the rights of Indians in South Africa and India. Nelson Mandela
hungered and fought for a South Africa, where all races were equal and unified as nationalists. Barack
Obama sought to build a more tolerant United States through his historic presidency, immigration
policies, and equal rights for all people. Although these individuals faced severe opposition, they
persisted and enacted significant changes in human rights.

For instance, In 1960 s Mandela got imprisoned till 1990...Gandhi got imprisoned multiple times in
South Africa and in India as well (Researchpedia Contrast of Mandela and Gandhi Paragraph 6).
Gandhi and Mandela both were imprisoned for their acts of disobedience and did not back down even
while in prison. In summary, Gandhi directly experienced prejudice which set him on a course for
unifying his people and demanding change for India.
Like Gandhi before him, Nelson Mandela demanded a dramatic change in the treatment of his people
and was willing to suffer life long persecution and imprisonment to achieve it. Mandela desired equal
human rights be given to all South Africans, regardless of color, and enacted change against the
apartheid through political activism and becoming a symbol of defiance during his twenty seven year
imprisonment. Mandela s desire for equal rights in South Africa fueled his quest for education and
career in politics. For example, As he secured formal education, Nelson Mandela became more
outspoken for causes of the suppressed, eventually being expelled from school for protesting...only to
return later to complete his degree (Sarah Brooks Paragraph 1). This shows that even while obtaining
his degree, Mandela was actively trying to promote change in South Africa. Mandela and other
congressmen paid a high price for their

The Complications Of Marie De France s Love Stories
Within Marie de France s lais are found multiple complications within a love plot, and when the
reader reaches the end of the tale, all of those difficulties are magically overcome. The idea of love
strengthening while enduring hardships is a central plot in Marie de France. Within Marie s stories
such as Guigemar , Le Frense , and Lanval there are love stories that seem to overcome
insurmountable complications. Rather, they seemed likely to lead to a tragic ending. However, through
the power of love and what seems to be a magical force, everything is resolved and the couples whisk

Marie sees love in a unique way, and I believe her philosophy when it comes to love is that love can
endure all and that some magical force will guide you to a happily ever after. Though, I believe this to
not be true since not all love stories have a happy conclusion, and the way a person handles obstacles
cannot be solved with magic. Her stories seem to demonstrate love in an unlikely and unrealistic
manner. For example, in Guigemar , Guigemar is under a curse where it essential that he finds a lady
who will suffer for him, and where he will suffer for her in order to lift the curse. Guigemar falls in
love with a lady who falls in love with him while she is nursing him back to health after noticing his
wound. Nevertheless, she is married to another man, who is the King. The husband of the lady makes
this discovery and wishes to have Guigemar murdered. The King ships Guigemar off to his homeland
and locks his wife up in a tower to suffer. However, suddenly and unexpectedly, by some force of
magic she is able to leave the tower and go on a quest to find Guigemar. She eventually finds him.

Licensing fees are a significant disadvantage of Windows, as they are based on the number of users.
Windows licenses (Server plus Exchange) cost around $100 per user. Mac server, by contrast, allows
unlimited numbers of users on a single license, and the license comes free with the server.
Windows workstations can be connected to Mac servers, so using a Mac server could considerably
reduce both licensing and administration costs. UNIX and Linux licenses are free, as is much of the
applications software.
The table below, from Prince McLean at Apple Insider, demonstrates acquisition cost savings of
$25,489, or around 85%, by using a Mac OS server instead of Windows. That s for 100 users. For the
10 and 25 user options in the table, using SBS would cut the Windows licensing costs by nearly half,

Illegal Online Music Downloading, The Consequences For The...
The internet is one of the greatest and most significant inventions of the 20th century. It has become
the biggest data foundation to receive all kinds of information, particularly knowledge related to
education and improving one s skills. Downloads are needed in order to receive data from computer
networks which are remote systems, typically a server. Copyrighted content needs to have appropriate
permission to download it and without this permission doing so could constitute copyright
infringement. According to Towers (2011), on line piracy generally refers to sharing over the internet
copies of works that are not authorised or illegal downloading of software, movies, videogames and
music. Copyrighted works are distributed illicitly through Internet chat rooms, newsgroups and peer to
peer file trading networks. All of these kinds of internet copyright infringement are crimes that should
be punished by law. This essay will discuss illegal online music downloading, the consequences for
the music industry and artists, and will introduce two solutions in terms of the law in relation to this
issue. Finally, an evaluation of these solutions will be given.
Illegal music downloads have caused a massive fall in the sales and income of the labels and artists,
which has been driving them to bankruptcy quicker. According to Li (2015:20), mentions Each year,

Energy Is An Important Part Of Human Evolution
Energy has been an important part of human evolution. Ever since human began development, energy
was a major factor. We need energy for everything we do. Heat is one of many types of energy, and it
is a very important type of energy. We use heat to warm our shelter, drive cars. Heat transfer is one of
the most obvious processes in the nature. It occurs at all the places such as machine, biological
creatures, etc... In engineering this heat transfer is a key part of understanding heat energy. The study
of heat behaviour and harnessing heat energy is called thermodynamics. Thermodynamics is used for
many areas such as nuclear power plant, car engines, etc... This essay will cover topics such as, what
is energy, and what makes it useful? , what is thermodynamics, success rate for harnessing and
manipulating energy and how energy is vital to us all and how we use it.
Firstly, energy is a power produced from physical or chemical resources, such as heat provided to
work the machines. It defines the capacity for doing the work, generating heat, etc... There are many
types of energies such as mechanical, electrical, thermal, nuclear, etc... This essay will cover thermal
energy. Thermal energy is the random motion of particles in the substance. An example of this
situation would be warming a cup of water, where water particles gets in random motion when heated.
The uses of thermal energy are very broad. Thermal energy is used in simple tasks such as a coffee

Ontological Argument Is Not Reliant On An Posteriori
Ontological Argument Saint Anselm created the Ontological Argument . Saint Anselm was the
archbishop of Canterbury. The premise of Saint Anselm s Ontological Argument is that, no greater
being can be conceived than God. The Ontological Argument is an a priori or deductive argument. An
a priori argument does not have to be supported by real or factual evidence just by reason without
observation. Thus, the Ontological Argument is not reliant on an a posteriori premise. An a posteriori
argument is an inductive argument and usually considered to be true because of past evidence or
reasoning and rarely false. In Core Questions in Philosophy by Elliot Sober, Sober first discusses how

However, nothing can be imagined greater or more perfect than God. So therefore Anselm believes,
God must exist in every possible world. However, Gaunilo and Kant criticize Anselm s Ontological
Argument. First, Guanilo believes that Saint Anselm s Ontological Argument is faulty. Regardless that
the Ontological Argument is deductively valid, Gaunilo believed there must be something inaccurate
with the argument. Gaunilo used a concept of a perfect island, which he shortens to P island. Gaunilo s
counter argument is actually in the same format of Anselm s Ontological Argument, which is an a
priori argument. The theory of a P island is that no greater island can be thought of. This theory begins
the same way as Anselm starts out the Ontological Argument. By paralleling to the Ontological
Argument, that no greater being can be thought of greater than God; Gaunelos premise is that, no
greater island to be though of than P island. So furthermore, P island is the best possible island. His
first premise was, P island is the greatest possible imaginable island. Second was that, if the island
doesn t exist in the real world, it is not as perfect as an island that exists in all possible worlds. Then,
his result was that a P island is not contingent but exists necessarily. Furthermore, Gaunelo next
concluded that the two premises of the P island counter argument are true; but that it doesn t
deductively imply the conclusion. He then states that this must

1995 and as of 7:30pm, December 7, 2000, 152 people have been executed during Bush s office as

So we now have an accusation that cannot be backed up, yet Bush still decides to launch an attack on
Afghanistan. The attack is widely regarded as a failure though Bush will not admit it. In Afghanistan
the US army used a policy of blanket bombing , which was basically: bomb everything in sight, and
you re bound to hit something. This something was 1 nursing home, 2 Red Cross hospitals, 1 school
and hundreds of homes. They did manage, with the help of the anti Taliban group in Afghanistan, the
Northern Alliance, to find some arms caches and eliminate some Taliban members. Once people
realized that the operation in Afghanistan was a failure, Bush tried to regain his popularity by
announcing yet another controversial move; plans to attack Iraq. During the 1990 s Saddam Hussein,
the leader of Iraq invaded Kuwait, the worlds biggest oil producer, and the US and UN stepped in to
defend it. This was known as the gulf war and was a big success for the US, although they did not
manage to get rid of Hussein. Many people now believe that Bush is now trying to pick up where his
predecessor, Bill Clinton, left off and rid the world of Saddam Hussein and his oppression forever.
This is all fine and well, but they are completely unprovoked and have absolutely no reason to attack:
Iraq has kept themselves to themselves since the end of the gulf war. An assault on Iraq would, as the

Rhetorical Analysis Of Speech By Florence Kelley
In the middle of the speech, Florence Kelley states the situation regarding the legality of child labor in
many states, using firm facts, doleful repetition, and ironic diction to arouse within the audience a
sympathetic response to want the children removed from their harmful situations along with the
logical response of wanting to repeal the laws associated with allowing children in damaging
manufacturing industries. Kelley employs several examples of different laws in different states
allowing children to work long hours at young ages. One example given describes even the lack of
restrictions on child labor whatsoever. In Georgia there is no restriction whatever! A girl of six or

But, before she brings this up, she first convinces her audience just how excruciatingly terrible child
labor is. Kelley focuses on children working long hours through the night, saying, tonight while we
sleep...working all night long. She then goes on to repeat the phrases, while we sleep, and, all night
long, various times throughout the core of her speech. The emphasis on children working through the
night appeals to the audience s pathos; it includes the listeners in the force enslaving children, making
them accountable. While the audience sleeps in the comfort of their homes, young girls spend all night
working to make products for them to enjoy. The sorrowful repetition gains the listener s sympathy for
the speaker s cause. Lastly, Florence Kelley demonstrates ironic diction in her attempt to persuade her
spectators to ally with her campaign. The speaker says, boys and girls...enjoy the pitiful privilege, to
describe young children going off to their jobs instead of to their playdates. The use of the
contradictory phrase pitiful privilege, reminds the audience that the privilege of having a job, earning
a living, becomes a burden when forced on these young

Chinese Politics And Comparative Communist Systems Essay
A Party State exists when the party and the state are interconnected within the state s leadership,
organizations, and society from the top down. Sujian Guo states in his book Chinese Politics in
Comparative Communist Systems, The existence of the party state and the blending of the political
and administrative functions is one of the distinctive characteristics of the communist system world
wide (Guo 9). These Party State Relations occur in all communist countries. There are many key
features of Party State Relations. Firstly, the members of the controlling party (China Communist
Party) have a key role in political decisions. The party holds major influence in major political
appointments, promotions, and dismissals of the members of the legislature, the state administration,
and the judiciary. This influence allows the party to maintain control over the goals and actions of the
government and to ensure that they aligned with that of the controlling party. Another key feature of
the Party State relations is that the parties infiltration of the government allows them to make
decisions in all of the state affairs and institutions because they are led by the party leaders. The Party
State has officials covering all areas of the government, such as; ministers, state presidents, presidents
of parliament and judiciary, officers in the military, the police, etc. The number of positions held by
party leaders creates a strong control over the different divisions of the

Laocoon s Influence on Renaissance Artists
The Renaissance was indeed a proud moment in history. It was a time of the revitalization of antiquity,
breakthrough scientific discoveries, and profound, inspirational artwork. The desire and urge to
establish stronger connections with the classical past brought about the search and discovery of many
ancient manuscripts and artworks. One of the most celebrated discoveries occurred during the height
of the Renaissance: The Laocoon. Perhaps one of the world s most famous Hellenistic sculptures, it
was originally located in the palace of Titus. It was then lost for over a thousand years before its
rediscovery in 1506. Pope Julius II immediately acquired it, and displayed it in the Vatican Museums.

The Trojans accepted the gift, and at night, the Greeks slipped out of the horse and opened the city,
which led to the fall of Troy. Laocoon was a high priest of Troy who warned against accepting the
wooden horse. Frustrated that the Trojans were ignoring his warnings, Laocoon threw a spear at the
giant wooden horse, and spurned the rage of Poseidon (who, along with the other Gods favored the
Greeks) to send giant sea serpents to strangle him.
One of the major significances of the Laocoon Group was the timing and effect of its celebrated
discovery. Prior to its discovery, the only known records of its existence were from ancient
manuscripts and records by Pliny the Elder. Buried underground for over a millennium, the Laocoon
Group emerged once again after its discovery near the baths of Titus in 1506. This was during the
height of the Renaissance, an era of the revitalization of the classics. Due to the strong desire to
possess the great works of antiquity, its discovery was an immediate success. Discovering the
Laocoon was like discovering the Titantic; an ancient treasure finally revealed after endless years of
searching.
Pliny the Elder (23 79) was an ancient author and philosopher who lived from the reign of Nero to that
of Vespasian. His encyclopedia, Natural History, was a collection of much of the known knowledge of
his time. In it, he describes the Laocoon as a work

Channel Islands Invaded By Simon Hamon
C. Evaluation of Sources
Channel Islands Invaded compiled by Simon Hamon is a collection of first hand accounts from the
citizens living on the Channel Islands during the German occupation from 1940 to 1945. The purpose
of the compilation is to reveal the personal thoughts of those involved in the occupation and report the
daily occurrences on the Channel Islands. The book s values are evinced in the compilation of sources
that were in close proximity to the occupation. Primary sources of the document provide unaltered
perspectives of the islanders. The authors of the sources give the perspective of a variety of social
classes, from officials to regular people. The limitations are shown through the possibility of
censorship by the British or German governments to hide the true nature of the occupation. As some
documents are taken from public debates and newspapers, opinions may be sensationalized to
persuade citizens into supporting a cause, while the perspective of the occupiers is not shown as
prevalently as that of the citizens.
The British Channel Islands Under German Occupation, 1940 1945 by Paul Sanders is a study of the
German occupation of the Channel Islands from 1940 to 1945 written and published in 2005 in Great

Magical Beasts Throughout the series of Harry Potter, many creatures appear in the books and put into
greater detail in the movies. Were these famous magical creatures made up or compared to something
similar in mythology and folklore? There are many famous creatures throughout the story that add
curiosity to one?s mind when first reading about one. The feeling one may get is to be able to see what
this creature is capable of doing in comparison to others. In each book and movie, there is usually a
creature that Harry, Ron, and Hermione have to overcome, such as the Basilisk in the second movie.
The creatures from Harry Potter that are portrayed in folklore are similar in many ways, yet different
in others. Some creatures were actually made up, but the most known ones, such as Fluffy and
Fawkes, are actually compared to other similar creatures. Most of these magical creatures or
sometimes referred to as ?beasts?, come from Greek and Roman mythology as well as European
mythology. The characteristics from some of the folklore creature were kept the same while others
were completely changed. One of the most popular Harry Potter creatures is Fluffy, the three headed
dog. The creation of Fluffy was influenced by a creature in Greek mythology known as Cerberus.

Analysis Of A Confederacy Of Dunces
A standout amongst relationships in modern literature is the strange relationship between Ignatius
Reilly and Myrna Minkoff, the two dunces in John Kennedy Toole s A Confederacy of Dunces. The
correspondence between them keeps running all through the novel. In the beginning, Ignatius feels a
specific quality of predominance over her, yet she feels that he has put some distance between reality,
and she proposes to start to control his activities. Ignatius wants to beat Myrna at her own game. She
really cares about him, even writing her thoughts on how to better his life. In three separate endeavors
to calm her unwavering feedback and recommendations, he considers her advice, each time
completely failing and causing more trouble for himself. However, toward the end of the novel, in a
comedic irony, she spares him from mental and physical imprisonment. Ignatius is a Catholic
medievalist who rejects the cutting edge world and all its decline (or so he says). Myrna, then again,
pursues each hipster person occurrence and pattern. She is fixated on sex less on the grounds that she
really needs to engage in sexual relations constantly, it just seems that in light of the fact that being
fixated on sex is the thing to do in this modern world. Thus, she grasps cutting edge activism and gets
a progression of small crushes on guys who appear to be activists (who all end up being fakes).

Essay on The Cause of the Devastation of Hurricane Katrina
The historical event of Hurricane Katrina, a category three hurricane with winds ranging from 111 130
mph, in August 2005 revealed major structural failures in the levee systems of New Orleans. Though
not all structural failures are as catastrophic, the breeched levees led to loss of life, homes, businesses,
highways, and left a trail of destruction that is still being repaired today. The result of this failure led
to lawsuits, conspiracy theories, and court cases. Hurricane Katrina had a major effect upon our

Between these three levees alone, the congressional inspection discovered more than fifty breeches in
the structural design. Once the speculations of a faulty levee system were proven correct, the blame
inevitably fell upon the designer s shoulders; the federal company of the U.S. army corps of
engineering. This organization admitted to have fallen short of the specifications required for the
levee. Five main studies were completed to determine the cause of the levee failure, two of which
derived from LSU and FEMA.
The studies found: that the levees did not follow design specifications, there were incomplete sections,
surrounding soil gave way, substandard construction of levee segments, and warning signs were
ignored.
Many comparable breeches along the levees were found throughout the city. Sections of the wall that
were incomplete and cracked prior to the hurricane were the first to fall. Many junctions of the canals
were poorly engineered and were too weak to handle any great amount of pressure. The safe load for
the canals was designed to hold around fourteen feet of water flow. In reality, the canals were only
built to safely hold seven feet of flow. In most places the water never capped the tops of the canals,
they simply broke when halfway full. One of the main causes for this was that the steel sheet pilings
were seven feet less deep than the designs called for. This allowed for the already

Using literature humanizes math, science, and social studies for children and parents, providing a new method of communication, and stimulating interest, enjoyment, and confidence (Columba et al., 2009). Additionally, it enables the teaching of content from multiple perspectives, motivating students to discover the love of learning from challenging sources (Kane, 2008). Kane (2008) explained that 40 percent of high school graduates lack the literacy skills necessary for employment. By teaching effective literacy strategies in content area learning, teachers can foster deeper understandings of texts and increase students ability to generate ideas and knowledge for their own uses (Kane, 2008, p. 3). • 7. Untranslatability from English to Romanian INTRODUCTION The need for translation has always existed since the appearance of the human being on the Earth. Translation is not only a way to explain what a language said to another, it is also a way to present one culture to another. As to the notion of culture, Edward Burnett Tylor considers that , culture...is that complex whole which includes knowledge, belief, art, morals, law, customs and many other capabilities and habits acquired by man as a member of society . This definition covers almost every aspect of human s life and lays at the basis of most modern anthropological conceptions of culture. Putting it simply, culture is rooted in history, it represents all the main peculiarities of a certain group of people, it is defined by language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts. In the process of translation culture cannot be ignored. Each culture is unique, as a result, its language is also unique, so when translating from one language into another we come across unique problems. It is commonly considered that understanding the culture of a country is only by understanding what people of that country are saying or writing. However, in practice, the fact that language is rooted in culture is often forgotten. The bigger the cultural difference, the more difficult is to translate the culture bound concepts. Dealing with untranslatable terms is not an easy task at all, it requires a lot of knowledge, professionalism and even ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The innovative minds of these people churned out inventions like gunpowder and the printing press, as well as, inventive new ways of thinking like the scientific method. Aside from the inventors and innovators, there were also the publicists and writers without whom no one would know or understand the new ideas of the time. One such person was Margaret Cavendish who was born and raised in England. She received the same education that a lady during her time did. However, due to her husband, Sir Charles Cavendish, she was exposed to the world of science. The subject intrigued her so much that she ended up publishing her own theory on atoms. Though her atomic theory contains many scientific Renaissance ideals, it is still seen as a major contribution of thought during the Scientific Revolution. To begin with, in order to understand the philosophies of Margaret Cavendish one must also understand the Scientific Revolution. The Scientific Revolution was a revolution in both thought and methodology. During the Renaissance science comprised of the organic theories of the magicians and vitalistic theories created by chemists. Pepper s Lonely Hearts Club Band in 1967, it transformed the rock music industry to be more albums orientated. Another famous artist that probably made as big of an impact or even bigger than the Beatles is Elvis Presley. Elvis is the definition of early rock, because he was a musical and cultural icon who not only helped shaped rock music itself, but also helped influence people around the world in many ways, such as people s everyday fashion and attitude. • 22. Analysis Of Gone With The Wind Gone with the Wind is a 1939 movie directed by Victor Fleming and starring Clark Gable, Vivien Leigh, and Olivia De Havilland. The film follows the life of Scarlett O Hara (Leigh), a young Georgian woman, and her pursuits of romance and wealth during the Civil War and Reconstruction. She faces the challenges of rebuilding her family s plantation and finding love while the man she wants to pursue already married. This film falls into the genres of historical and romance. Historical films are characterized simply by the fact that they are set in an earlier time period, usually one that is far enough in the past that it can be distinguished from the time period the movie is produced in. Most often, the era a historical film is set in is one that has a particular key event that sets the time period. In the case of Gone with the Wind, the film is set around the Civil War, which holds a key part in much of the plot and impacts the characters lives. Romance films have a plot that revolves around the attraction between two main characters rather than having the romantic relationships be a subplot. The typical romantic film tropes that can be found in Gone with the Wind are Scarlett s unrequited love, bordering on obsession, for Ashley and her marriage to Rhett which was portrayed as if they were both to find happiness with each other, but ultimately only found more conflict. The historical aspects of this film revolves not only around the Civil War itself, but also the idealized ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are tons of women that are in combat. They all join for different reasons, some join just to see what it s like, and some join because they want to represent their country. During the Civil War more than 400 women went into the army disguising themselves as men, just do that they could fight in the war. If women can dress up as men and go to war and fight for our country then i feel like we should give them the right to do it. In 2011 there was about 203,000 women in the United States Military. Some people think that women aren t capable of doing it, or that she won t be able to do it. Women going into the combat know that it is not an easy thing and are up to the challenge. But to me I think that if she thinks she can do it and is up for the challenge that we should believe that she can doing it to. In 1948 President Truman helped make a separate military service for women. If a women can show that she is capable in a boot camp then why shouldn t she be able to fight for our country. For women to be in the Military it might be tougher meaning guys naturally have more muscle, but if a women had their mindset on doing it, no one should tell her that is isn t allowed to because she isn t a guy. Today women have so much more freedom than what they used to have. Many people think that women won t be aggressive during the war and that s why they should not be able to be a part of something as great as it. I think that women will be aggressive when it comes to the real fight because they know that if they don t they could most likely be killed. Going into the military women know that they have a chance of not coming out. Solveig Krey was the first woman commander of a Norwegian submarine in 1995. For years women have been filling in combat roles. After being in the war and killing another human being those images stay in your head, or well for Leigh Ann Hester, she still thinks about it every single day. However, Gaunilo and Kant criticize Anselm s Ontological Argument. First, Guanilo believes that Saint Anselm s Ontological Argument is faulty. Regardless that the Ontological Argument is deductively valid, Gaunilo believed there must be something inaccurate with the argument. Gaunilo used a concept of a perfect island, which he shortens to P island. Gaunilo s counter argument is actually in the same format of Anselm s Ontological Argument, which is an a priori argument. The theory of a P island is that no greater island can be thought of. This theory begins the same way as Anselm starts out the Ontological Argument. By paralleling to the Ontological Argument, that no greater being can be thought of greater than God; Gaunelos premise is that, no greater island to be though of than P island. So furthermore, P island is the best possible island. His first premise was, P island is the greatest possible imaginable island. Second was that, if the island doesn t exist in the real world, it is not as perfect as an island that exists in all possible worlds. Frustrated that the Trojans were ignoring his warnings, Laocoon threw a spear at the giant wooden horse, and spurned the rage of Poseidon (who, along with the other Gods favored the Greeks) to send giant sea serpents to strangle him. One of the major significances of the Laocoon Group was the timing and effect of its celebrated discovery. Prior to its discovery, the only known records of its existence were from ancient manuscripts and records by Pliny the Elder. Buried underground for over a millennium, the Laocoon Group emerged once again after its discovery near the baths of Titus in 1506. This was during the height of the Renaissance, an era of the revitalization of the classics. Due to the strong desire to possess the great works of antiquity, its discovery was an immediate success. Discovering the Laocoon was like discovering the Titantic; an ancient treasure finally revealed after endless years of searching. Pliny the Elder (23 79) was an ancient author and philosopher who lived from the reign of Nero to that of Vespasian. His encyclopedia, Natural History, was a collection of much of the known knowledge of his time. In it, he describes the Laocoon as a work ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Channel Islands Invaded By Simon Hamon C. Evaluation of Sources Channel Islands Invaded compiled by Simon Hamon is a collection of first hand accounts from the citizens living on the Channel Islands during the German occupation from 1940 to 1945. The purpose of the compilation is to reveal the personal thoughts of those involved in the occupation and report the daily occurrences on the Channel Islands. The book s values are evinced in the compilation of sources that were in close proximity to the occupation. Primary sources of the document provide unaltered perspectives of the islanders. The authors of the sources give the perspective of a variety of social classes, from officials to regular people. The limitations are shown through the possibility of censorship by the British or German governments to hide the true nature of the occupation. As some documents are taken from public debates and newspapers, opinions may be sensationalized to persuade citizens into supporting a cause, while the perspective of the occupiers is not shown as prevalently as that of the citizens. The British Channel Islands Under German Occupation, 1940 1945 by Paul Sanders is a study of the German occupation of the Channel Islands from 1940 to 1945 written and published in 2005 in Great Britain. • 41. Analysis Of A Confederacy Of Dunces A standout amongst relationships in modern literature is the strange relationship between Ignatius Reilly and Myrna Minkoff, the two dunces in John Kennedy Toole s A Confederacy of Dunces. The correspondence between them keeps running all through the novel. In the beginning, Ignatius feels a specific quality of predominance over her, yet she feels that he has put some distance between reality, and she proposes to start to control his activities. Ignatius wants to beat Myrna at her own game. She really cares about him, even writing her thoughts on how to better his life. In three separate endeavors to calm her unwavering feedback and recommendations, he considers her advice, each time completely failing and causing more trouble for himself. However, toward the end of the novel, in a comedic irony, she spares him from mental and physical imprisonment. Ignatius is a Catholic medievalist who rejects the cutting edge world and all its decline (or so he says). Myrna, then again, pursues each hipster person occurrence and pattern. She is fixated on sex less on the grounds that she really needs to engage in sexual relations constantly, it just seems that in light of the fact that being fixated on sex is the thing to do in this modern world. Thus, she grasps cutting edge activism and gets a progression of small crushes on guys who appear to be activists (who all end up being fakes). Toward the start of the connection between the reader and the relationship amongst Ignatius and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Essay on The Cause of the Devastation of Hurricane Katrina The historical event of Hurricane Katrina, a category three hurricane with winds ranging from 111 130 mph, in August 2005 revealed major structural failures in the levee systems of New Orleans. Though not all structural failures are as catastrophic, the breeched levees led to loss of life, homes, businesses, highways, and left a trail of destruction that is still being repaired today. The result of this failure led to lawsuits, conspiracy theories, and court cases. Hurricane Katrina had a major effect upon our country and those results are still rippling on today. Though a city once devastated, major improvements to the failed system have been made and leave the city feeling safe once again. When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Between these three levees alone, the congressional inspection discovered more than fifty breeches in the structural design. Once the speculations of a faulty levee system were proven correct, the blame inevitably fell upon the designer s shoulders; the federal company of the U.S. army corps of engineering. This organization admitted to have fallen short of the specifications required for the levee. Five main studies were completed to determine the cause of the levee failure, two of which derived from LSU and FEMA. The studies found: that the levees did not follow design specifications, there were incomplete sections, surrounding soil gave way, substandard construction of levee segments, and warning signs were ignored. Many comparable breeches along the levees were found throughout the city. Sections of the wall that were incomplete and cracked prior to the hurricane were the first to fall. Many junctions of the canals were poorly engineered and were too weak to handle any great amount of pressure. The safe load for the canals was designed to hold around fourteen feet of water flow. In reality, the canals were only built to safely hold seven feet of flow. In most places the water never capped the tops of the canals, they simply broke when halfway full. One of the main causes for this was that the steel sheet pilings were seven feet less deep than the designs called for. This allowed for the already ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
