Segmented Polyurethanes Can Be Represented By Three Basic...
Segmented polyurethanes can be represented by three basic components in the following general
form: P (D(CD)n P)n
Where P is the polyol, D is the diisocyanate and C is the chain extender. Polyol, or the so called soft
segment, is an oligomeric macromonomer comprising a soft flexible chain terminated by hydroxyl (
OH) groups. The chain extender is usually a small molecule with either hydroxyl, or amine end
groups. The diisocyanate is a low molecular weight compound that can react with either the polyol or
chain extender, leading to the interesting segmented structure. In linear polyurethanes, the three
components have a functionality of two. If a branched or crosslinked material is desired,
multifunctional polyols, isocyanates, and sometimes chain extenders can be incorporated into the
formulation. Due to the statistical nature of the copolymerization, polyurethanes have both a
distribution in total molecular weight and adistribution in the hard segment sequence length, those
copolymer sequences denoted as D(CD)n, that follow essentially a most probable distribution.
The principle chemical reaction involved in the synthesis of polyurethanes is the urethane forming
reaction, i.e., the reaction between isocyanate and hydroxyl groups.
Because this is a nucleophilic addition reaction, it is catalyzed by basic compounds such as tertiary
amines and by metal compounds such as organotin. Urethane formation is actually an equilibrium
reaction; the presence of catalyst therefore

Eukaryotic Chemotaxis Lab Report
Delving into the Process of Eukaryotic Chemotaxis The mechanism in which cells move either
towards, or away from a stimulus is referred to as chemotaxis (1). Chemotaxis is initiated in
eukaryotic cells when the cells first sense an external chemotactic gradient (2). The presence of this
gradient is sensed by a class of receptors, called 7 transmembrane heterotrimeric G protein coupled
receptors (GPCRs) (2). As the name implies, these proteins are located in the plasma membrane of
eukaryotic cells. This external gradient triggers an intracellular Phosphatidylinositol (3,4,5)
trisphosphate (PIP3) gradient to form (2). PIP3 is a phospholipid that is located in the plasma
membrane of eukaryotic cells (3). This PIP3 gradient induces a signaling ... Show more content on

Motility is present even in the absence of a stimulus, if the organism contains flagella or pseudopodia
(14). However, if the cells are exposed to a gradient of chemoattractant or chemorepellent, their
motility is biased toward or away from higher concentrations of that stimulus (14). When
Dictyostelium are exposed to various cAMP concentrations, more pseudopodia are formed and are
extended towards the areas of high cAMP concentrations (14). This process is mirrored by
neutrophils, which extend pseudopodia rhythmically towards positive chemotactic stimuli

Te poem by Robert Lowell seems as if he was remembering his mother s death and what he had gone
through during that time. He tells the story in a poem in a sequential order from being in the hospital,
being in the car with her dead body and finally in the cemetery burying her.
In the hospital we can see that he remembers that the nurse could only speak in Italian. We also see
that, he kind of knew that his mom was going to die because he says that there is only a week left of
her existence. By thinking about all this Robert Lowell starts to tear and I guess does cry.
When he gets his mother s casket in the car he gets very descriptive by saying, the whole shoreline of

Well what I see is that the mother is being buried in the winter time. We can tell when the author says
sub zero whether, soil was changing to stone, blinding snowdrifts, all these lines were describing the
coldest in the winter time. Then he goes on by saying unhistoric soul to come here was Father, now
buried beneath his recent unweathered pink veined slice of marble. When Robert says recent you can
guess that it wasn t long ago that his father had past away. When Robert said unhistoric is seemed as if
him and his dad weren t close at all. His dad was some sort of business man who basically or I can tell
never had time to spend with his son. Even on the father s grave it said Occasionem cognosce, which
means, recognize (your) opportunity, this seemed like he even died during a business deal or
something. The engravement on his grave seemed like he was selling something, unlike other s whose
graves say Rest In Peace or something better. The engravement also felt as if he was on a commercial
you know. Could have been a marketer and was doing an ad you know.
Then he talks about the mother s grave, maybe comparing it with the father s grave. We can see that
the mother s maiden name could have been either Winslows or Starts. Then I see that the grave

Meeting A Hero
Meeting a Hero
It was hot in Oklahoma City. The concert had been terrific. Steven and his dad, Rudy, would never
forget being in the same room as one of the greatest blues musicians of all time. They had heard
rumours that, if you waited around the artist s entrance long enough after a show, Isaac Smith would
eventually allow you to come in and meet him. Steven and Rudy were in no hurry. So, they decided to
wait.
Steven passed the time by checking to make sure his camera was in working order. Rudy wanted an
opportunity to have his picture taken with his hero; Steven wanted to take advantage of the
opportunity. An hour and a half passed. Just when Steven was about to suggest they give up, the artist
s entrance door opened. A large man in a black suit announced, Mr. Smith will see you now.
The corridor to the dressing room was barely wide enough to accommodate one person standing in the
middle. The security guard instructed the group to form a single file line against one wall. We can only
let in two at a time. The room is small, he said. Steven s heart sank. He was fourth in line and Dad was
fifth. They wouldn t be able to get in at the same time and Dad wouldn t get his photo. That s when the
man standing third in line said, He s going to see all of us. Take my spot and then you and your dad
can go in together. It was a huge relief.
A couple of minutes went by and the security guard ushered Steven and Rudy into the dressing room.
In front of their eyes was Isaac Smith

Mother Infant Dyads Completed All Aspects Of The Study Essay
Method
Twenty four mother infant dyads completed all aspects of the study. Of those 24, 18 were Caucasian,
22 were married, eight of them had an annual family income of $50,000 to $74,999, and seven had an
annual family income of over $100,000. Also 16 of the participating mothers had a graduate degree.
Not only is the sample size very small, but the demographics of the mothers is greatly
disproportionate. With the majority of mothers being caucasian, educated, middle class, married
women, the sample size does not accurately represent the majority of the population who lives in
relative poverty and cannot afford to seek help. About half of the mothers had a history of depression
and were taking or had just started taking antidepressant medication when they first enrolled.
Considering the size of the sample, all the mothers should have been either prescription drug users, or
not, but not both. Prescription drug treatment for any depression significantly changes perceptions of
mood, skewing the results, and there is not enough women in the study to make a concise prognosis.
To assess the mothers postpartum psychiatric difficulties the Postpartum Depression Screening Scale
(PDSS; Beck Gable, 2000) was used. Prior to treatment, mothers completed a self report questionnaire
packed comprised of the Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI; Derogatis, 1993), the Parenting Stress Index
Short Form (PSI SF; Abidin, 1995), and the Maternal Self Report Inventory Short Form (MSI SF;

The Power Of Power In Les Miserables And The Kite Runner
What is power? Power has been the demise of leaders, empires, and the cause of war. Can power be
used for good? Both Les Miserables and The Kite Runner can be juxtaposed to show power, what it is,
and what it can be used for. Les Miserables and The Kite Runner show that power is subjective, and
has many different interpretations. Merriam Webster dictionary has many definitions of power. Power
could be considered the ability to produce an effect, or physical might, or even possession of control,
authority, or influence over others. Wealth is a form of power. We see two different elements of this in
both selections of literature. In Les Miserables, Jean Valjean, the former convict, uses wealth that he
acquires under the name Mayor Madeleine to provide jobs for his constituents in a factory that he
owns. Valjean used his power through wealth to empower many others to make their own wealth. This
use of power is noble and just. Instead of giving others money or gifts, he gives them the gift of
empowering themselves through sustainable work. This is a redeeming moment of Jean Valjean s
character, contrasting his past as a convict. Baba is the father of Amir, the protagonist in The Kite
Runner. He is a man of great influence, and possesses a strong moral compass. Baba is a very well
written, realistic character. He is not restricted to good or bad, but blurs the lines. The way he uses his
wealth is one of his better qualities meant to counteract some of his worse

Ancient Greeks landscape design
The Greeks had the characteristics of harmony with nature, so the ancient Greek terrain and landscape
design to achieve relief, its planning and composition of the structure is quite free. The Greeks learned
to combine urban construction with natural landscape harmony and complement each other. Gardens
and parks are similar to living organisms that are closely related to the natural environment and
humans. Metropolis, theaters, forums, squares, seem to evolve from nature, with the surrounding
landscape.
In the ancient Greek landscape construction, strict symmetry mainly. Alleyways and parks are
decorated with fountains, pillars, vases and sculptures. The park has its origins here. In the garden, the
Greeks widely used cypress trees, fir trees, oaks, sycamore trees, palm trees, olive trees and other
trees, decorative temples and their homes. Here also built a ladder of the garden, where the fountain
arranged, planted flowers and trees.
The Greeks advocated rational dialogue. Specially designed philosophical gardens in order to carry
out philosophical dialogue. On the terrace there was an upright, wide alley, a space for sports, statues,
vases and fountains.
The geometric shape of the gardening of the ancient world turned into a blooming era for the world s

development of landscape design in Europe.
Ancient Rome
The landscaping of ancient Rome was developed according to the ancient Greek tradition. Using the
achievements of the Egyptian culture, the Romans created their park culture. Ancient Roman

Motifs
Motifs are essential to any work of literature as they help establish an overarching theme. Arthur
Miller s play All My Sons contains various motifs concealed within the story of a businessman who
made a mistake that costed the lives of 21 pilots. The author includes the motif of intelligence
throughout the play to prove that some people know more than they let on. Though Ann seems like a
kind hearted innocent young woman she is capable of scheming in order to get what she wants. When
she is first introduced the stage directions read (...) gentle but despite herself capable of holding fast to

Ann s acquisition is Chris, she will use whatever she can whether it be plotting or enticement to get
him. Her reason for visiting the Keller household after several years is questioned by Kate when she
says Nobody comes seven hundred miles just to see (21). Though both Chris and Ann make it out to
seem they just want to see each other again on friendly terms Chris invited her over with the intention
of proposing to her. Ann is aware of this and wishes for Chris to propose to her as well because she
loves him. This is evident as she goes a long distance to see him, during a time where it is
*complicated and expensive to travel. In her first appearance to the reader Ann is wearing an
expensive dress No kidding, now, isn t she the prettiest gal you ever saw? (24). Miller limns the dress
as stunning and extravagant, this is quite reminiscent of a description of a wedding dress. The dress is
a symbol for marriage and allurement as Ann wore it with the intention of gaining Chris s attention in
hopes he will ask her to marry him. When Jim is introduced to Ann for the first time he says She looks
very intelligent! (24). Though he is implying that she is

The Harder They Come Essay
The Harder They Come has gained international recognition for its depiction of the Jamaican society
post independence. It can be described as one of the masterpieces of Perry Henzell who released the
film in 1972 (Ceccato 2006). The Harder They Come can be described as revolutionary, as it sought to
remove many of the clichés that existed about Jamaica. Thoughts regarding the social, political,
cultural and economic situation of the country were eroded by the display of the Jamaican reality
through the film. Some years later Michael Thelwell was asked to novelize The Harder They Come.
After an internal battle with himself he finally gave in to the request and the film The Harder They

This, therefore, alludes to the idea that based on the agendas of the author and the director different
views may be projected. Michael Thelwell in novelizing the film opted to create something that as
more than just a mere addition to the film produced by Henzell. With this in mind, Thelwell
constructed the history and background to Ivanhoe Martin that was actually lacking in Henzell s film
and gives us a better understanding of the heroism displayed by Ivan or Rhygin. It is arguable to some
extent that novels are better than films due to the level of freedom that print allows. Furthermore,
Henzell was unable to provide the details of Ivan s life in the country within such a short period of
time granted that he directing a film, consequently these elements were not

Apple s First True Love Essay
Crying
I was told as a child that strong people don t cry. For many years I barely shed a tear. I remember not
crying at my grandfather s funeral because I wanted to be strong.
As I grew older, it became harder and harder to carry so much pain and anxiety inside and I became
weighed down.
Then one day, I could no longer hold it in and while I was alone, I cried. To my amazement, I felt so
much relief and realized, it takes a strong person to cry.
Now, my muscles are growing slowly, and every once in a while, I ll shed a tear. My tears are mostly
of joy now because I feel free. Every blue moon my tears may be due to sadness and that s okay.
Either way, crying is relief.
Be patient if you see someone shed a tear, it may not have come easy for them. Apple s First True

the month of March was 34 and by the end of March, 13 of those new hires decided to resign from
their position. This situation is a direct occurrence from new hires lack of knowledge of the actually
job that they applied for and the hiring of underqualified candidates. This paper will analyze research
and data of innovative hiring process that can improve the turnover rate of NAL s new hires. When
taking a deeper look into the hiring process, there are many factors that bring question to NAL s hiring
success. The first was the actually job application. When actually looking at NAL s job application the
top asks the applicant to check the positons applying for and list six job positions. The most important
information needed on a job application is a description of the position applying for because this
becomes the basis for determining who can succeed in the filling the position (Mamoon, 2013). NAL s
application does not have any job descriptions, which means that applicants are not really
understanding the nature of the job or the necessary job traits needed to be successful before applying.
When acquiring a job description, many new companies have begun the innovative process of

Barrett Seven Levels Of Consciousness Analysis
Introduction
Leadership skills are very important for a project manager since project manager is always a leader
due to his/her position. Leadership is defined by behavior, which in turn is dependent on personal
values. This is why this essay will look at Barrett Seven Levels of Consciousness Model that
categorizes individual values, Life Orientations Model (LIFO) that describes four behavioral styles
and FIRO B Model that also illustrates different behavioral components. The survey results will be
compared and similar patterns will be identified. After that the possible gaps in the leadership style
and behavior will be uncovered. Finally, an action plan will be developed to remove these gaps and
improve both individual and team performance, contributing to successful management of the projects
in future.

The patterns of our behavior are grounded in experience: we keep doing what worked for us in the
past and stop doing the things that didn t work. The development and compilation of different theories
such as Rogers communication congruency theory, Maslow s hierarchy of needs, Drucker s motivation
theory and Fromm s theory of productive and unproductive behavior (...the name of your game
Atkins) build up LIFO, shedding light on how values affect our behavior and form a specific
behavioral style. In LIFO the 4 strength based behavioral styles are described (Supporting,
Controlling, Conserving and Adapting) in two types of conditions: favorable and unfavorable (Lifo.co,
2016). The model also describes how positive values can become negative, turning from strengths to
weaknesses. Atkins and Katcher (n.d.) mention that the benefits of applying LIFO include the

The Fulfillment Of The Abrahamic Covenant
The Pentatuach offers the reader hope in the fulfillment of the Abrahamic Covenant because
It all began in the covenant with Abraham, God promised many things to him. God promised
numerous descendants, land, and a relationship with him. God s first blessing would provide Abraham
with numerous descendants, which in turn would become a great nation. His second blessing would
provide him and his family with a place to call home. His third blessing states that Abraham will have
a relationship with God. This means that, anyone who blesses Abraham will be blessed by God,
anyone that curses him will be cursed. In return for all of these promises, Abraham and all of his male
members and descendants were circumcised to let God know that they belong to him.
We can believe that the Abrahamic covenant would be fulfilled when, God called Abraham to leave
his country, relatives, and family to go to the land that he was going to be given. God said, I will make
you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others.
The land that the Lord took Abraham too, was the land that would be given to him and his
descendants. After Abraham was gone, his descendants would be in possession of the land.
Abraham had a vision, where God promised to protect him. Abraham had a hard time believing that
him and his wife would ever have children. God told Abraham that the amount of descendants that he
would have, is equivalent to the amount of stars in the sky.

The One Child Policy Restricted Citizens Of China
The one child policy restricted citizens of China to one child per family. This family planning policy
was created in 1980 to help a growing population. The effects of this policy included millions of
forced abortions and sterilizations (Wong 2). In 2013, the policy was relaxed because the drop in
population created an age gap in China. Also the ratio of males to females became unequal. There
were up to 116.9 boys for every 100 girls in China (Luo 2). The old continuity was a one child policy
put into place for over thirty years. Change occurred when the policy was relaxed in 2013 to allow
more families the opportunity to have more than one child. The new continuity is a small, but helpful

At its peak in the 1960s, the fertility rate was 5.8 babies for each woman of childbearing age thanks to

the Constitution of 1982 was formulated to state, The state promotes family planning so that
population growth may fit the plans for economic and social development. (China 1). The government

rural and pastoral areas to a maximum of two kids. A government issued report from 2001 states that
the policy had effectively curbed the rapidly growing population (Luo 1). The government also stated
that without the enforcement of this policy the population would have had an extra 330 million people
in 2001. To keep this policy in tact over the years, a financial punishment of heavy fines up to $300
were set in place. Although this policy helped stop the population explosion, it created a new crisis: in

Competition And Predation Play An Important Role
Coexistence has been happening among many species since the beginning of time throughout nature.
The way species exist is of great complexity as many factors such as: competition and predation play
an important role (Chase et al. 2002; Holt 1984; Paine 1966). Ecosystems, communities and
populations all face competition between their species. Studies are constantly being done to show how
different species survive together or die trying and what is it that they are fighting to survive over.
Different habitats, predator, prey, and so many other factors play a role in the survival of species like
protists. Many laboratory studies have been done on two protists, Paramecium aurelia and
Paramecium caudatum, to see different aspects of their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The prey will go slam down on the ground in seconds and be devoured in minutes by the lion. The
lion is allelopathy at its best because there is competition over survival and territory with animals of
this nature. Territory can be a limited resource depending on the time of year and the environment as a
whole, trees and brush being chopped down pose a problem when it comes to sneaking up on prey.
Gause started experimenting on protists to observe their development and observe their survival
ability together (Gause). Paramecium can be found in many places: wet areas like lakes and rivers or
dry areas such as those of trees and soil. Gause set out to experiment with Paramecium aurelia and
Paramecium caudatum to determine if they fit the competitive exclusion theory that he came up with
(Gause 1935). The class was given both parameciums to experiment with for the validity of
coexistence. The competitive exclusion theory begs the question, can two species coexist together
over a resource or will one of them be driven to extinction? Gause may have been the leader to start
the protists experiment but he wasn t the only one to question competition. Gill had questioned Gause
s theory and decided to do his own research. Gill experimented on two species pure and mixed
cultures of Paramecium aurelia. After experimenting Gill discovered that Paramecium aurelia did not
match up to Gause s theory and did not compete over a limited resource instead

How Graphic Design Has Had On Popular Culture And Consumerism
In this summative essay I would like to explore and analyse the influence that Graphic design has had
on popular culture and consumerism. Graphic design can be defined as the art and practice of planning
and projecting ideas and experiences with visual and textual content. The form of the communication
can be physical or virtual, and may include images, words, or graphic forms. (aiga.org) Designers are
problem solvers and it is their job to come up with a suitable solution to a problem. They have to find
the best suitable means to communicate a particular message. Graphic Designers are at the forefront of
advertising and the battle of selling giving the designer even greater responsibility, because of this
graphic designers play a big role in consumerism. Consumerism, as a social and economic order and
ideology encourages the acquisition of goods and services in ever greater amounts. (wikipedia.org)
Society have been gradually made to believe that they can increase their happiness through buying and
spending. Consumerism is an international problem, but has existed for many years, people
purchasing goods that exceeded those of their basic needs dates way back to the first civilisations, in
the eras of ancient Egypt and Rome. A turn in consumerism arrived just before the industrial
revolution, people worked long hours and earned low wages, so they didn t have the time or the
disposable income for excess spending. The industrial revolution welcomed the use of assembly

Transformers Movie Pros And Cons
The Transformers franchise has been in existence since the 1980 s when both its cartoon and comic
series first came out. Since then, multitudes of various television series, comic series, and films are
produced continuously to this day. Though each series stories and characters come in a variety of
darkness, storyline, continuity, and such, the battle between the divided factions of Autobots and
Decepticons lead by Optimus Prime and Megatron, respectively, remains evident between nearly all of
the variations (Fred). Despite all the changes and differences, the fans remain loyal to the Hasbro
owned franchise. Its continued relevance today is most likely thanks to Transformers franchise s
perfect formula of fantastical escape, well developed writing, and opportunism that, to this day,
continues to retain its popularity on medias of all kind.
As with any form of entertainment, Transformers is a place that fans choose to escape to from reality,
or at least, better cope with it in some cases. Often set in a post war scenario where both sides are left
to abandon their home planet of Cybertron and take providence on Planet Earth, the variations often
deal with themes such as alienation, unfamiliar territories, the effects of war and the politics behind it
(Pirrello). Even while many of the cartoon series may water down the severity of the situation, the
reality remains the same between all of them, and the familiarity they provide can make it easier to

Pros And Cons Of Abolishing Standardized Tests
Stolz 1
Jennie Stolz
DC English
Mrs. Colbert
3 November 2017
Abolishing Standardized Tests Standardized tests determine such a drastic amount of one s future. Not
only do students fail standardized tests, but they also lack the knowledge that one expects a child to
learn in their current grade. In general, teachers focus on preparing students for tests and not truly
teaching the material. This forces the question of whether or not standardized tests measure what
students have learned or their test taking skills. Many students have terrible test taking skills, which
results in substantially low scores. This does not result from lack of knowledge of the material, but
rather because they do not understand how to effectively take and finish tests. Students deserve a
proper education, therefore require a reliable educator. The majority of these failures result in lower
graduation rates, and the percent of workforce drastically drops. Standardized tests such as the
American College Test, the ACT, Scholastic Aptitude Test, the SAT, and core state tests should not
remain a deciding factor for passing a grade level or getting accepted into a certain college. One
reason includes students inability to afford needed test preparation. Misevaluating students knowledge
and skills when using structured tests continues to exemplify the major flaws in today s education
system. Therefore, standardized testing should not exist.

Alexander Chapman Ferguson, known as Alex Ferguson, was born in 1941, in Govan Glasgow

became a labor union activist and an active member of the Labor Party . As far as Ferguson s the
football player career is concerned, actually, he did not achieve a successful career. In fact, as a player

What in your reading have you been able to find that supports your view?
Sir Alex Ferguson has been using the charismatic leadership style. In order to understand, Alex
Ferguson style we have to start by defining the charismatic leadership style as well as the charismatic
personality treats. Charismatic leadership is defined as a social influence process that involves the
formulation and articulation of an evocative vision, provides inspiration to motivate collective action
...and displays unconventional and personal risk taking behavior (Sosik, Dinger, 2007). As far as the
personality treats as concerned, charismatic leaders are most of the time being dominant, having a
strong desire to influence others, being self confident, and having a strong sense of one s own moral
values (Northouse, 2004).
Concerning Alex Ferguson style, he has been using encouragement and enthusiasm as motivation
methods. In fact, Ferguson has been known as the greatest motivator in the modern football times. To
illustrate his cheerleading feature, in 1999, during the European Cup final, he indicated to his team at
the end of this game, the European cup will be only three feet away from you and you will not be able
to touch it if we lose (Alex Ferguson, 1999). Furthermore, as a leader he has been very demanding and
always expecting a 100% from his players since he believes that hard work is the key of success: I
think it is important to work and I m entitled to work, some

Assessment And Assessment Of Assessment
Assessment is used to document learning and to plan our next steps. There is evidence of constructive,
specific feedback that is linked to the lesson objectives. Teachers plan assessments to learn what
students have knowledge of and what they need to practice on. Assessment use in the classroom
allows both the students and teachers to see if goals of education are being met. Assessments affect a
variety of things such as the grades students have, instructional needs, and placement in classes.
Assessments can reveal more than just if a student knows the material or not, assessments can also
reveal a students strengths and weaknesses. The student may be able to answer all questions correctly
on a multiple choice test, but then fails an essay questions because they are unable to explain
themselves due to the lack of knowledge of the content. Assessments are a great way to receive data
on the student s knowledge, but making sure the teacher is using the right and appropriate assessment
can be a major factor. My CT gives a variety of assessments when determining the level of
understanding students have reached for the content being taught. When assessing our class, we look
for if students have mastered a topic, need more review, or if something needs to be retaught. Often
my CT will teach a lesson and give a formative assessment whether it be on an online testing website,
by paper test, or having them write short passages about the content. If she analyzes the data and it

Silent Relationship Killer Essay
The Silent Relationship Killer: Social Media
Addiction is the cause of many ruined relationships and broken friendships; social media addiction is
no exception. This quick and easy way to satisfy your need for human interaction is quite detrimental
(Bonanno). You are able to learn information about someone at a moment s notice and often you do so
without much context. Jumping to conclusions, over thinking, and neglected face to face connections
are regular outcomes of avid social network usage. The people of today s times, especially teenagers,
often find themselves feeling robbed of deep emotional connections (Dockterman). Although the
problem seems to be glaring, people do not seem to be noticing the effects of their constant network ...

Online, people only share the best events or most attractive (and edited) pictures. These posts or
pictures often receive enormous amounts of attention and often lead people to believe that s how they
should look or that is what they should be doing. It creates unrealistic standards for many people.
When it comes to romantic relationships, there are tons of posts out there about how a girl s boyfriend
went over the top with expensive gifts or extravagant gestures. This is causing girls to become upset
when their significa nt other isn t going to the same unrealistic extremes. Another example is people
posting about extensive generous acts their friends have done for them and makes it seem like the
norm. Social media is setting the bar high for friends and couples alike.
Furthermore, you can use the internet to flirt, research, and connect with people within seconds. This
can spell trouble for many romantic relationships. With the internet showing you the best of everyone,
it is easier to think that the grass is greener on the other side. Although some may think that the fault
lies with the generation and their talking relationships, much of the blame lies with social media. In
the past, if you broke up with someone, you may run into them occasionally, but otherwise you would
not need to see them. Now, the internet will throw your ex back into your face over and over. An
individual may even be tempted to reconnect with them. If you

Florentine Codex Translation The Florentine Codex has four version available to read. The original
Nahuatl version, Spanish, English from spanish translation, and the new English from Nahuatl

But it s the small differences in the Old vs New English that create interesting difference that change
certain details and emotions. The new direct Nahuatl translation is of course the more true and

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Summary
Summary
For this article there were no research questions, but the authors wanted to focus on the pathogenesis,
diagnosis and treatment of PCOS. They found that polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is common in
women, with a10% prevalence in women of reproductive age. Polycystic ovary syndrome is defined
as ovarian dysfunction with polycystic ovaries. It also includes androgen excess which is shown by
testosterone levels being elevated. Increased levels of testosterone can be seen through excess body
hair. Obesity is seen in many women with PCOS, this can lead to insulin resistance and Type II
Diabetes. Genetics has an impact on polycystic ovary syndrome with 20 40% of people with PCOS
having first degree relatives with the syndrome.
The authors also found that PCOS can cause many long term side effects, including Type II diabetes,
cardiovascular disease, mood disorders, and malignancy. Type II diabetes is due to the high prevalence
of obesity leading to insulin resistance in PCOS. Women with PCOS are at higher risks for
cardiovascular diseases including increased levels of low density lipoproteins. Polycystic ovary
syndrome can also lead to anxiety, depression and binge eating. Women with obesity have a ... Show

Civil Rights in Colored People by Henry Louis Gates
Henry Louis Gates admiration and following of great civil rights movement leaders, including his
mother, seems to show that he has an optimistic position on history and social change in his book
Colored People . Throughout the beginning chapters he is shown growing up noticing the contract
between his mother s view and the rest of the Colemans. She would stand up to white people. He
admired her spark and vitality, whished to grow up in a world where he can see his mother treated
with the respect she deserves. Freedom from the chains of segregation was his goal, most notably his
adventures during his college years. He was dating a white girl and was also going to extreme lengths
to make sure Piedmont becomes unsegregated. Growing up he sees the flame within his mother
diminishing. This occurrence doesn t phase his determination, the contrary; he decides to resurrect his
mother s passion. He attempts that by helping his father buy her a house, since she always wanted to
own property. He seems to also believe that the arc of history curves, no matter how many curves it
takes it, towards justice. He at least did throughout his adolescence years.
However, in the big scheme of history, it seems that his view is not as one dimensional as readers
would expect. Gate s book reveals to us how history can be ironic in the form of a shocking change of
tone in the concluding chapters. He doesn t imply that history is approaching its doom because of our
actions, it is simply pointing

Issue Spotters Delta Tools, Inc., markets a product that under some circumstances is capable of
seriously injuring consumers. Does Delta owe an ethical duty to remove this product from the market,
even if the injuries result only from misuse? Why or why not?
I think Delta Tools, Inc. doesn t owe an ethical duty to remove the product from the market unless the
company doesn t warn its customers of the danger they can meet upon misuse of the product. If the
company takes all the measures to warn their customers of the danger of the product once it s misused,
customers have knowledge of the risk and voluntarily assume it. For example, the use of any
antibiotics with the alcohol can lead to many harmful processes and activities. ... Show more content

In addition, Brody and Crawford claimed that THC, in its March 19 and April 24 press releases,
materially misled them about THC s intention to sell the company. The district court granted the
defendant s motion to dismiss the claims. The plaintiffs appealed to the US Court of Appeal, Ninth
Circuit.
ISSUE Are Brody and Crawford the proper plaintiffs to sue THC for damages for violation of the
statute and rule¹ regarding the insider trading?
DECISION No. US Court of Appeal, Ninth circuit, affirmed the district court s decision to dismiss
Brody and Crawford s complaint for failure to state a claim upon which relief can be granted.
REASON The Court noted that plaintiffs did not meet a contemporaneous trading requirement, a
judicially created standing requirement, which specified in Section 14(e) and Rule 14e 3 that the
plaintiffs must have traded in a company s stock at about the same time as the alleged insider. In
addition, the Court decided that the plaintiffs complaint must specify the reason or reasons why the
statements made by THC in its press releases were misleading. Brody and Crawford argued that in
order for statement not to be misleading, once disclosure is made, there is a duty to make it complete
and accurate , for which the Court found no support in the case law. The case law² only

The Political Process Has Consumed My Time At Columbia Essay
The political process has consumed my time at Columbia. From a very young age, I knew that I
wanted to be involved in one day being a leader that constructs policy. With this calling in mind, I
have always been a fan of political history. There have been many great achievements in the realm of
domestic politics and foreign policy, but there are also examples of extraordinary failure. These
failures demonstrate what works when one seeks to build a team and make decisions that affect the
lives of millions of people. One such failure that comes to mind is the failed Bay of Pigs invasion.
The invasion was a plan to topple the Cuban government, with a group of Cuban expatriates with the
support of the U.S. government. The invasion was a complete failure. Although Kennedy was known
to have a cabinet and set of advisors, which came from the best schools and were supposed to be the
best in the business they failed to notice even the most obvious flaws in their plan. In short, there were
numerous flaws, ranging from the expected reaction of the Cuban populace, the capacity of the Cuban
military and all around faulty intelligence. In fact, many of these issues were never even addressed,
while the plan was being discussed. Many of these issues were based on faulty intelligence, which was
never questioned. Irving Janis, wrote a book called Group Think, which examined these fiascos like
these along with many others. The premise was simple, why do groups of what we consider very

Assisted Reproduction Technologies Pros And Cons
As the years, have progressed, the sensation for science has increased, as well as the aspiration for
technology. Because of this, many new ideas and innovation have been brought to us, such as the
development of ART, Assisted Reproductive Technology. The use of Assisted Reproductive
Technologies has been brought to allow pregnancies to be effectuated when the natural way is not
option. The interest for unnatural pregnancy began in the early 1800s when John Hunter, a Scottish
surgeon inseminated a woman with her husband s sperm. Due to this incidence, later in the late 1800s,
the idea for sperm donation sprouted. From there on, the curiosity for other ways to succeed in
unnatural pregnancies devolved rapidly. One of these ways was the In Vitro ... Show more content on

specific situation specifically was given. Additionally, for the other percentage of men, a rational
andrological treatment was given. Over all, the data was able to prove that different types of Assisted

Media Self Image
Media s Effects on Self Image Focus on self image is a major factor in everyday life for people today.
In recent years it has become an issue within the youth, and how they view their worth. There are
multiple causes of self image issues, but the main reasons are genetics, clinical depression, bullying,
past abuse, and media (Lifespan 1). Media has a strong influence on people s idea of what they should
look like physically and affect their mental state.
Seeing images of what mainstream people consider body goals on a regular basis can start to alter how
people really feel about their body. Most of these images people call goals are close to impossible to

Many comment their opinions on people s post including cyberbullies. About half of young people
have experienced some form of cyberbullying, and 10 to 20 percent experience it regularly (Cyber

are even able to execute it without receiving any punishment. Cyber bullies are more likely to not get
caught being that it occurs so much; even the cyber bully is caught it is extremely difficult to get them
penalized. Victims that have dealt with cyber bullies tend to have a lower self esteem and find that
they are worthless. People are not aware of the result of cyberbullying almost 20% of kids
cyberbullied think about suicide, and 1 in 10 attempt it and 4500 kids commit suicide each year

What Is The Theme Of Death In The Indian Camp By Ernest...
Everyone is born to live and to die. People go through life fearing the inevitable which in the end is
always death. Ernest Hemingway wrote two short stories that examine this idea of life and death
through the use of a variety of different symbols. In both Indian Camp and The Killers , Hemingway
examines these ideas by putting forth a character named Nick Adams. Nick Adams develops as a
character throughout these stories ultimately learning lessons about life and death that will better his
understanding of the world. Nick goes from having an imperfect immature understanding of death in
the Indian Camp to a more mature and grown up understanding in The Killers . In Indian Camp , Nick
believes that the only way one will die is if they kill themselves. Nicks father also brings Nick to the
Indian Camp where his father will deliver a baby. Nicks father wants Nick to watch the birth and learn
the importance of life, but instead the procedure takes a turn for the worst and Nick becomes disturbed
by what he sees. In The Killers , Nicks understanding of death becomes more understood when he
notices how Ole Anderson has given up on life and has ultimately taught Nick the lesson that death is
inevitable. By his use of light and characters lying down in bed facing the wall in both The Killers and
Indian Camp , Hemingway is attempting to show us how Nick develops a better understanding of light
and death.

  • 2. Segmented Polyurethanes Can Be Represented By Three Basic... Segmented polyurethanes can be represented by three basic components in the following general form: P (D(CD)n P)n Where P is the polyol, D is the diisocyanate and C is the chain extender. Polyol, or the so called soft segment, is an oligomeric macromonomer comprising a soft flexible chain terminated by hydroxyl ( OH) groups. The chain extender is usually a small molecule with either hydroxyl, or amine end groups. The diisocyanate is a low molecular weight compound that can react with either the polyol or chain extender, leading to the interesting segmented structure. In linear polyurethanes, the three components have a functionality of two. If a branched or crosslinked material is desired, multifunctional polyols, isocyanates, and sometimes chain extenders can be incorporated into the formulation. Due to the statistical nature of the copolymerization, polyurethanes have both a distribution in total molecular weight and adistribution in the hard segment sequence length, those copolymer sequences denoted as D(CD)n, that follow essentially a most probable distribution. The principle chemical reaction involved in the synthesis of polyurethanes is the urethane forming reaction, i.e., the reaction between isocyanate and hydroxyl groups. Because this is a nucleophilic addition reaction, it is catalyzed by basic compounds such as tertiary amines and by metal compounds such as organotin. Urethane formation is actually an equilibrium reaction; the presence of catalyst therefore ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Eukaryotic Chemotaxis Lab Report Delving into the Process of Eukaryotic Chemotaxis The mechanism in which cells move either towards, or away from a stimulus is referred to as chemotaxis (1). Chemotaxis is initiated in eukaryotic cells when the cells first sense an external chemotactic gradient (2). The presence of this gradient is sensed by a class of receptors, called 7 transmembrane heterotrimeric G protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) (2). As the name implies, these proteins are located in the plasma membrane of eukaryotic cells. This external gradient triggers an intracellular Phosphatidylinositol (3,4,5) trisphosphate (PIP3) gradient to form (2). He tells the story in a poem in a sequential order from being in the hospital, being in the car with her dead body and finally in the cemetery burying her. In the hospital we can see that he remembers that the nurse could only speak in Italian. We also see that, he kind of knew that his mom was going to die because he says that there is only a week left of her existence. • 5. Meeting A Hero Meeting a Hero It was hot in Oklahoma City. The concert had been terrific. Steven and his dad, Rudy, would never forget being in the same room as one of the greatest blues musicians of all time. They had heard rumours that, if you waited around the artist s entrance long enough after a show, Isaac Smith would eventually allow you to come in and meet him. Steven and Rudy were in no hurry. So, they decided to wait. Steven passed the time by checking to make sure his camera was in working order. Rudy wanted an opportunity to have his picture taken with his hero; Steven wanted to take advantage of the opportunity. An hour and a half passed. Just when Steven was about to suggest they give up, the artist s entrance door opened. A large man in a black suit announced, Mr. Smith will see you now. The corridor to the dressing room was barely wide enough to accommodate one person standing in the middle. The security guard instructed the group to form a single file line against one wall. We can only let in two at a time. The room is small, he said. Steven s heart sank. He was fourth in line and Dad was fifth. They wouldn t be able to get in at the same time and Dad wouldn t get his photo. That s when the man standing third in line said, He s going to see all of us. Of those 24, 18 were Caucasian, 22 were married, eight of them had an annual family income of $50,000 to $74,999, and seven had an annual family income of over $100,000. Also 16 of the participating mothers had a graduate degree. Not only is the sample size very small, but the demographics of the mothers is greatly disproportionate. With the majority of mothers being caucasian, educated, middle class, married women, the sample size does not accurately represent the majority of the population who lives in relative poverty and cannot afford to seek help. About half of the mothers had a history of depression and were taking or had just started taking antidepressant medication when they first enrolled. Considering the size of the sample, all the mothers should have been either prescription drug users, or not, but not both. Prescription drug treatment for any depression significantly changes perceptions of mood, skewing the results, and there is not enough women in the study to make a concise prognosis. Both Les Miserables and The Kite Runner can be juxtaposed to show power, what it is, and what it can be used for. Les Miserables and The Kite Runner show that power is subjective, and has many different interpretations. Merriam Webster dictionary has many definitions of power. Power could be considered the ability to produce an effect, or physical might, or even possession of control, authority, or influence over others. Wealth is a form of power. We see two different elements of this in both selections of literature. In Les Miserables, Jean Valjean, the former convict, uses wealth that he acquires under the name Mayor Madeleine to provide jobs for his constituents in a factory that he owns. Valjean used his power through wealth to empower many others to make their own wealth. This use of power is noble and just. Instead of giving others money or gifts, he gives them the gift of empowering themselves through sustainable work. This is a redeeming moment of Jean Valjean s character, contrasting his past as a convict. Baba is the father of Amir, the protagonist in The Kite Runner. Many students have terrible test taking skills, which results in substantially low scores. This does not result from lack of knowledge of the material, but rather because they do not understand how to effectively take and finish tests. Students deserve a proper education, therefore require a reliable educator. The majority of these failures result in lower graduation rates, and the percent of workforce drastically drops. Standardized tests such as the American College Test, the ACT, Scholastic Aptitude Test, the SAT, and core state tests should not remain a deciding factor for passing a grade level or getting accepted into a certain college. One reason includes students inability to afford needed test preparation. Misevaluating students knowledge and skills when using structured tests continues to exemplify the major flaws in today s education system. Therefore, standardized testing should not exist. ... • 23. Assessment And Assessment Of Assessment Assessment is used to document learning and to plan our next steps. There is evidence of constructive, specific feedback that is linked to the lesson objectives. Teachers plan assessments to learn what students have knowledge of and what they need to practice on. Assessment use in the classroom allows both the students and teachers to see if goals of education are being met. Assessments affect a variety of things such as the grades students have, instructional needs, and placement in classes. Assessments can reveal more than just if a student knows the material or not, assessments can also reveal a students strengths and weaknesses. The student may be able to answer all questions correctly on a multiple choice test, but then fails an essay questions because they are unable to explain themselves due to the lack of knowledge of the content. Assessments are a great way to receive data on the student s knowledge, but making sure the teacher is using the right and appropriate assessment can be a major factor. My CT gives a variety of assessments when determining the level of understanding students have reached for the content being taught. When assessing our class, we look for if students have mastered a topic, need more review, or if something needs to be retaught. Often my CT will teach a lesson and give a formative assessment whether it be on an online testing website, by paper test, or having them write short passages about the content. • 27. Civil Rights in Colored People by Henry Louis Gates Henry Louis Gates admiration and following of great civil rights movement leaders, including his mother, seems to show that he has an optimistic position on history and social change in his book Colored People . Throughout the beginning chapters he is shown growing up noticing the contract between his mother s view and the rest of the Colemans. She would stand up to white people. He admired her spark and vitality, whished to grow up in a world where he can see his mother treated with the respect she deserves. Freedom from the chains of segregation was his goal, most notably his adventures during his college years. He was dating a white girl and was also going to extreme lengths to make sure Piedmont becomes unsegregated. Growing up he sees the flame within his mother diminishing. This occurrence doesn t phase his determination, the contrary; he decides to resurrect his mother s passion. He attempts that by helping his father buy her a house, since she always wanted to own property. He seems to also believe that the arc of history curves, no matter how many curves it takes it, towards justice. He at least did throughout his adolescence years. However, in the big scheme of history, it seems that his view is not as one dimensional as readers would expect. Gate s book reveals to us how history can be ironic in the form of a shocking change of tone in the concluding chapters. He doesn t imply that history is approaching its doom because of our actions, it is simply pointing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

ISSUE Are Brody and Crawford the proper plaintiffs to sue THC for damages for violation of the statute and rule¹ regarding the insider trading? DECISION No. US Court of Appeal, Ninth circuit, affirmed the district court s decision to dismiss Brody and Crawford s complaint for failure to state a claim upon which relief can be granted. REASON The Court noted that plaintiffs did not meet a contemporaneous trading requirement, a judicially created standing requirement, which specified in Section 14(e) and Rule 14e 3 that the plaintiffs must have traded in a company s stock at about the same time as the alleged insider. In addition, the Court decided that the plaintiffs complaint must specify the reason or reasons why the statements made by THC in its press releases were misleading. • 29. The Political Process Has Consumed My Time At Columbia Essay The political process has consumed my time at Columbia. From a very young age, I knew that I wanted to be involved in one day being a leader that constructs policy. With this calling in mind, I have always been a fan of political history. There have been many great achievements in the realm of domestic politics and foreign policy, but there are also examples of extraordinary failure. These failures demonstrate what works when one seeks to build a team and make decisions that affect the lives of millions of people. One such failure that comes to mind is the failed Bay of Pigs invasion. The invasion was a plan to topple the Cuban government, with a group of Cuban expatriates with the support of the U.S. government. The invasion was a complete failure. Although Kennedy was known to have a cabinet and set of advisors, which came from the best schools and were supposed to be the best in the business they failed to notice even the most obvious flaws in their plan. In short, there were numerous flaws, ranging from the expected reaction of the Cuban populace, the capacity of the Cuban military and all around faulty intelligence. In fact, many of these issues were never even addressed, while the plan was being discussed. Many of these issues were based on faulty intelligence, which was never questioned. Irving Janis, wrote a book called Group Think, which examined these fiascos like these along with many others. The premise was simple, why do groups of what we consider very smart ... • 32. What Is The Theme Of Death In The Indian Camp By Ernest... Everyone is born to live and to die. People go through life fearing the inevitable which in the end is always death. Ernest Hemingway wrote two short stories that examine this idea of life and death through the use of a variety of different symbols. In both Indian Camp and The Killers , Hemingway examines these ideas by putting forth a character named Nick Adams. Nick Adams develops as a character throughout these stories ultimately learning lessons about life and death that will better his understanding of the world. Nick goes from having an imperfect immature understanding of death in the Indian Camp to a more mature and grown up understanding in The Killers . In Indian Camp , Nick believes that the only way one will die is if they kill themselves. Nicks father also brings Nick to the Indian Camp where his father will deliver a baby. Nicks father wants Nick to watch the birth and learn the importance of life, but instead the procedure takes a turn for the worst and Nick becomes disturbed by what he sees. In The Killers , Nicks understanding of death becomes more understood when he notices how Ole Anderson has given up on life and has ultimately taught Nick the lesson that death is inevitable. By his use of light and characters lying down in bed facing the wall in both The Killers and Indian Camp , Hemingway is attempting to show us how Nick develops a better understanding of light and death.
