What Is Affirmative Defense
1. The defendant(s) have various options. They can contest the lawsuit, negotiate a settlement
with the plaintiff, or do nothing at all. If they defendants challenge the lawsuit, they can do son
on two bases. They can either contest the facts of the case or challenge the action on some legal
basis. 2. If the defendants choose to contest the action, they must act within certain time
limitations. If the case is filed in state court, the time limit is fixed by state law. In federal court,
under Rule 12, the time in which to respond is normally 21 days unless the defendant waived
service under Rule 4. If service was waived, the defendant has 60 days after the request for waiver
was sent. In most cases, the time in which to respond can be extended... Show more content on

An affirmative defense is a fact or circumstance that defeats the plaintiff s claim, even if the
plaintiff can prove every contention alleged in the complaint. The affirmative defenses must be
alleged in the answer or they are generally deemed waived. Whether a matter is an affirmative
defense is a question of substantive law. Some matters, such as an expiration of the statute of
limitations, operate as affirmative defenses in all kinds of cases. 5. It follows the same general
format as the complaint. It contains a caption, body or allegations, prayer or wherefore clause,
and signature. In some jurisdictions, it is prepared on pleading paper. 6. After the answer is
prepared, it must be served on the plaintiff or the plaintiff s attorney, and it must be filed in court.
The procedures followed for accomplishing service and filing depend on whether the answer is
subject to electronic filing. If an answer is not filed electronically, then prior to filing the answer
with the court the following is done: 1. A copy of the answer is served on plaintiff s attorney, and
2. A copy of the answer is served on the attorney for any other codefendant who has previously
responded to the complaint. пѓ An answer can be served personally, by first class mail, or by fax

Nietzsche Genealogy Essay
Let us begin from how Nietzsche frames genealogy first and foremost as a genealogy of morals .
Accordingly, it is crucial that we understand what Nietzsche takes morality to be. According to
Richard Schacht, morals [...] are most properly thought of as a loosely related family of norms
pertaining to humanconduct of various sorts [...] . Moreover, Schacht adds that morals are to be
seen in relationship with our forms or spheres of life [...] the various sorts of sociocultural
formations and configurations [...] setting the contexts of the greater part of what we variously do
in the course of our socioculturally articulated lives . Morals are therefore normative codes
according to which we orientate ourselves in the context of different spheres

Portrayal Of Women In The Odyssey Essay
hough women play a central role in The Odyssey written by famous author Homer the portrayal
and characterization of said women highlights the negative portrayal of women at the time as well
as shows double standards that still plague our society today. All of the women are characterized
with few traits, most of which only describe their looks, while the reader is constantly reminded of
all of Odysseusgood traits, most of which have nothing to do with his looks. Even Penelope, who
is portrayed as the ideal woman, is only ever described as beautiful and faithful . Sadly, this
sexism is reflected in the Ancient Greek s patriarchal society in which women were considered the
property of men and they were married off with or without consent at very young ages. Women
play a central role in the Odyssey, yet due to the Ancient Greek s society prejudices the women are
written in a way that clearly highlights the double standards of society and the way men used to
portray women. In the society of Ancient Greecewomen were never in charge of their own
decisions and often had little to no say in them and were often married at young ages and were
judged, not by her own achievements, but by their looks, and the wealth and status of their
fathers or husbands. Even Penelope seems to acknowledge this when she says My looks, my face,
my carriage, were soon faded or lost. knowing that is what the people of the Ancient Greek society
judged people on. After Odysseus is presumed dead,

Why Philadelphia Is Not For Affordable And Nutritious Food
Philadelphia is not exceptional in terms of the characteristics or poverty status from its residents
when compared to other large urban areas. Yet it has the second lowest number of supermarkets of
major cities in the nation. The greater Philadelphia region has seventy two fewer supermarkets in
low income neighborhoods (Duane Perry). This shortage of supermarkets means that poor residents
must travel out of their neighborhoods to purchase food, or shop at more expensive convenience
stores with less selection and often poor quality. The insufficient access to affordable and nutritious
food in lower income neighborhoods reduces the chance for a healthy lifestyle. Many low income
families in Philadelphia have limited funds from which to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

There were neighborhoods throughout Philadelphia where residents couldn t easily buy healthy
foods like fruits and vegetables. And science shows us that people who live in these underserved
neighborhoods are more at risk for serious diet related diseases like obesity(Food Trust website).
They began with one farmers market at Tasker Homes, a public housing development in South
Philadelphia. Once a week, with the help of the Tasker Homes Tenant Council, they set up one
long table overflowing with produce. It happened to be the only source of fresh fruits and
vegetables in the community. The Food Trust works with neighborhoods, schools, grocers, farmers
and policymakers in Philadelphia and across the country to change how we all think about healthy
food and to increase its availability. The Food Trust efforts with its partners resulted in the creation
of the Fresh Food Financing Initiative. It was the nations first statewide financing program to
increase supermarket development in underserved areas. The Food Trust is a nonprofit organization
that continues to ensure that all children who live in communities have access to safe, healthy and
affordable food. Their key goal of this project is to stimulate the development of supermarkets in
lower income neighborhoods. There are large areas of Philadelphia with few supermarkets, and
many neighborhoods where none exist. There is an uneven distribution of food in

European Union Integration And Deliberative Democracy
2.0 European Union integration and deliberative democracy The European Union (EU) was
established back in (REFERENCE) with the aim of (REFERENCE peace and economic
prosperity). Since then, much has happened, and the EU is now considered more than just an
economic collaboration. This brings along both new challenges and new opportunities when
considering the future EU. Recent developments has shown an increasingly worry about the
economic situation in the EU (REFERENCE GREECE AND SPAIN), which challenges the
legitimacy of the EU as solely an economic union if the internal economy is falling apart, how can
we then justify the upholding of the union? This has become a major concern to several EU
countries. One example is the United Kingdom,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The political relationship between nation states is built upon negotiations between national
governments. In this sense, the theory draws upon an ration actor model , where the nation state is
the primary analytical unit of interest, and intergovernmental negotiations are the context (Cini,
2007, p. 97). More precisely, Moravcsik writes that Actors calculate the alternative courses of action
and choose the one that maximizes (or satisfies) their utility under the circumstances. (Moravcik
and Schimmelfennig, 2009, p. 68). He argues that nation states in the EU seek to maximise
economic profit based on existing preferences. This form of rationality indirectly implies that a
collaboration between EU countries is undesirable when there is no economic profit to be made by
the nation state. This also means that the theory is unable to accommodate alternative forms of
political integration. If one believes in the idea that EU integration is (or should be) built upon
economic profitable results alone, then it should be no surprise that the EU is currently witnessing
the appearance of an increasing number of euroscepticist parties within several EU countries. The
other main theory about EU integration, namely the neofunctionalist (NF) tradition, opposes the
idea of LI in several ways. One of the main differences is the NF notion of positive spillover effects,
e.g. that integration within the economic sector provides strong incentives for integration within
other sectors.

The Vignette Sweetheart Of The Song Tra Bong
The vignette Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong of the larger novel The Things They Carried
depicts an innocent young girl becoming tainted by the realities of war. The main issue
discussed in this segment is the mental illness of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or more well
known as PTSD. An article by CNN reporter, Eric Zillmer, also talks about PTSD but heavily
talks about the aftermath of war on the human psyche. As the author, Tim O Brien, pulls on our
heartstrings by showing the forge of such a mental illness in an innocent girl. Zillmer takes a more
scientific route by explaining the cause of such mental illness and possible ways to prevent PTSD.
As both authors depict PTSD as something appalling each one depicts it in opposite ways. Tim

Proposition 140 In California
Dating back to its admission into statehood, reform has been an undeniable element of California. It
could even be argued that many important landmarks in our state history were defined by acts of
reform, such as the implementation of direct democracy into its state constitution during the
progressive era of the late 19th and early 20th century. In modern California, it could be argued that
there has been no greater landmark than the passage of Proposition 140. In short, Proposition 140
was an initiated constitutional amendment that sought to reform several key aspects of its own
state legislature. One such reform limited the amount the of expenditures the legislature could spend
on staff. Another reform barred state legislaturesfrom earning... Show more content on

During the 1980s, the California legislature had built a reputation as one of the most professional
legislatures in the country and for good reason. For one, the legislature enjoyed relatively low
turnover rates between 1979 and 1989, with the assembly ranked in the 16th country and the
senate ranked 3rd (Petracca, pg.11). But, following implementation of Proposition 140, instability
was very pronounced in the in the first years particularly in the assembly. For the first 8 years after
the implementation of term limits, speakers of the assembly were generally inexperienced and
ineffective, lasting only for budgets and an election. It was not until the appointment of John A.
Perez in 2009, that the assembly began to stabilize Another aspect of instability and ineffectualness
of the assembly has been its committees. Due inexperience of assemblymen, the process of
identifying flawed legislation through gatekeeping has not been used as effectively as it has in the
past. Prior to term limits, the percentage of failed bills stood at around 36.3%. After term limits, it
was 23.3%. So, without experienced assemblymen, bad policy is more likely to go through

Pros And Cons Of Resealing Your Wood Deck
Unprotected from harsh weather, scratched, and walked on constantly, your wood deck may
begin to look a bit dingy over the years. Even worse, once the sealing is gone it is far more likely to
develop mold and mildew. Fortunately, you bring back the beauty your yard and the health of it by
resealing your deck.
If you do not know how to seal a deck, do not worry. It is a simple procedure, and these four tips
should help:
1. Test the Wood
Before you seal or reseal your wood deck, you must first test it to determine if it needs sealing. It
is easy to test your deck, just gather some water and head out to your deck. Pour the water onto
your deck and watch.
If the water soaks into your deck, it needs to be sealed. If the water does not soak into

Managing and Resolving Conflicts
MANAGING AND RESOLVING CONFLICTS Introduction Many atimes when the term
conflict is used, the association made is with physical violence. Though, news media and other
sources often use conflict and physical violence interchangeably. The concept of conflict is far
more expansive. In many cases, conflict in the workplace just seems to be a fact of life. We ve
all seen situations where different people with different goals and needs have come into conflict.
The fact that conflict exists is not necessarily a bad thing. As long as it is resolved effectively, it
can lead to personal and professional growth. In many cases, effective conflict resolution skills can

The emergence of a conflict can change this. Now one can feel threatened, anxious and angry.
The same person whom we enjoyed working with yesterday now seems like an adversary, just
because of our vast, past experience with conflict, most of which was negative. Many of us had
not learnt to deal with conflicts constructively, in fact the converse is true we have learnt
destructive ways of handling conflicts. As children, as students, as employees and too often as
spouses. We have experienced losing in a conflict because parents, teachers and bosses used
their power to win at our expense. Even though we know the feelings of resentment, anger,
dislike, even hostility that we experience as a result of losing, the win lose posture is deeply
ingrained and when we get in positions where we have power over people, we too often choose
to win at their expense. A great deal of research shows the damaging effects that win lose conflict
resolution has on interpersonal relationships. It creates distance, separation, dislike even hatred. It
is the main reason people leave their jobs for new ones and marriages break up. Procedures for

My Journey From Southeast High School At The University Of...
Everyone has had a different journey of getting to college. Now that I have gotten to college I
want to reflect on my journey from Southeast High School to the University of Central Florida
(UCF). I will be talking about my past experiences as a high school student and I want to talk
about some challenges I experienced so far. Also, I want to tell you about how collegehas been so
far. I would also like to tell you how my professors would describe me. In all, I will have talked
about what went well in high school, some challenges, my college experiences and also how my
professors would describe me, this will have shown you my college journey so far. I went to a
relatively small high school by the name of Southeast High School during the four years there I
did the IB program, which had an even smaller class around forty five kids. There are three
experiences I would like to talk about. One experience would be my participation in the IB
program, which allowed me to be better prepared for college. Having a IB class under fifty
allowed for many of the students to succeed in every class and on the IB exams. My family was
very supported in my decision to join the IB program. Secondly, since the first day of middle
school, I was involved in an origination called the Technology Student Association (TSA), I

The First Year Of Life
Infancy is defined as the period from birth to 12 months of age (Kyle, 2008). Growth and
development changes which occur in the first year of life are numerous and dramatic (Kyle,
2008). The first year of life is an extraordinary and captivating time in the human lifespan (Kyle,
2008). Infants reveal vast amounts of learning in the psychosocial and cognitive, language and
communication, and social/emotional domains (Kyle, 2008). The average weight of a newborn
is 7lb. 8oz. (Kyle, 2008). Most infants double their birth weight by the time they are 4 to 6
months, weighing an average of 16.5 lbs. (Kyle, 2008). The average height in most newborns is
19 to 21 inches long at birth, however the first 6 months; length increases by 1 inch per month
(Kyle, 2008). On average, the first teeth begin to erupt between the ages of 6 to 8 months (Kyle,
2008).
The normal development for a 6 month infant includes appropriate motor development such as
sensory and gross motor (Kyle, 2008). A newborn can see objects from about 8 inches away
(Kyle, 2008). Infant begin to develop rapidly, by the time they are 6 months they have developed
depth perception, which is the ability to judge if objects are nearer or farther away than other
objects (Kyle, 2008). Babies at this age can already follow moving objects with their eyes and
reach for things (Kyle, 2008). Hearing is an important aspect, which by 6 months they can identify
sounds that may come from the left or the right side (Kyle, 2008).

Kurt Schlichter s Rhetorical Analysis
Americans try to stay away from discussing politics and offending people. However, it is very
important to talk about all topics, in order to inform others and learn from each other. Everyone has
a right to voice their opinion, even if it is different than others. In the news outlets, it has been
voiced that certain people are thinking about running for president, Oprah Winfrey being one of
them. Oprah Winfrey has copious amounts of titles including talk show host, actress, and
philanthropist, but according to Kurt Schlichter, running for President of the United Stateswould be
a mistake. Kurt Schlichter produces an interesting piece expressing how Oprah Winfrey is the best
of the worst Democratic candidates. He does this by his context, connecting to his target audience,

My American Dream
American identity is living on land founded by both political and religious leaders. Even though
our society can be broken down into different ethnicities, as a whole we are our own culture. A
very unique one too, between values, dedication, hard work, and perseverance it all makes us
American. My hard work and dedication are pushing me closer and closer to my American
dream, which is wanting to become a nurse practitioner. The title American dream basically
explains itself, it s a chance for every US citizen to have an equal opportunity to achieve their
dreams. For me it means becoming what I wanted to be up until this point. I wouldn t be as close
as I am today without my family and friends support, having determination and being a hard
worker, and setting goals to go to a college. Becoming a nurse practitioner and going to college is
the American Dream that I want to strive for with hard work and dedication, helping sick kids at
Children s hospital. With the support of my family and friends I wouldn t be so committed and
so eager to go and become a nurse practitioner, Family is the single most important influence in a
child s life. From their first moments of life, children depend on parents and family to protect
them and provide for their needs (Smart Beginnings 1). From a young age, children develop

Aging Affects The Appetite And Food Intake
Abstract Aging affects the appetite and food intake of a person resulting in a gradual decreasing in
the body weight. Moreover, slower stomach emptying makes the elderly to experience increased
fullness or satiation all the time. The alteration of gut peptides, such as cholecystokinin, insulin,
GLP 1 and Peptide YY during aging modifies satiation and satiety. Moreover, the study collected
data from seven scholarly reviewed medical journals following well defined criteria: must use
scholarly reviewed journals written English and the journals had to align with the topic under
discussion. It demonstrated the differences in satiety and satiation related to age and their unique
responses to gut hormones. Moreover, out of the seven articles, four were controlled trials while
three of them included cohort studies. The keywords used during the study were aging, food intake,
regulate, satiety and satiation. Other studies used in the search demonstrated major strengths, such
as exhibiting the differences in satiety and satiation related to age and their unique responses to the
gut hormones. They also showed the likelihood for the manipulation of nutritional factors like the
meal size, taste, and variety for inhibiting weight gain or weight loss through compensatory
alterations in energy ingestion. The major limitation of the study included their inability to reflect
the general population because the elderly subjects represented successful aging, free of chronic

Persuasive Essay On Flag Desecration
Fifty white stars, and thirteen red and white stripes should not be anywhere near the line of fire.
The American flag is the fabric of our nation. The cloth of the land, that simple 3 colored
polyester rectangle, has been fought for by millions of people. They weren t fighting for liberty
and free speech in WWI, WWII, Vietnam. They were fighting for the flag that many of them
were buried in. And yet, some people in your country enjoy burning it. The freedom to defend
the flag from desecration by its enemies has been cruely removed. Our democracy is strong
because we tolerate all peaceful forms of expression, no matter how uncomfortable they make us
feel or how much we disagree. The U.S. Supreme Court has affirmed and reaffirmed that the
right to desecrate the flag is included in the Constitution s protection of speech. Flag desecration
is a disrespectful expression to our nation and veterans. Flag desecration should be banned and
illegal in all fifty states. Flag desecration became protected under the first amendment in 1989 in
the case of Gregory Johnson. The Supreme Court, in the case of Gregory Johnson (1989), ruled
that it was in fact constitutional to allow people to burn the flag, the evidence against this ruling
is overwhelming. The law defined desecration as physical mistreatment of such objects in a way
which the accused knows will offend one or more persons likely to observe or discover the act
(Texas v. Johnson). When Gregory Johnson or any other protestor s

The firm launched its new computer consulting business in 1954 when it began providing services

consulting business grew but remained a relatively minor activity compared to Andersen s auditing

information technology increased. By 1979, 42 percent of Andersen s $645 million in worldwide
fees came from consulting and tax work, as opposed to auditing and accounting. Consulting became
the leading contributor to Andersen s revenues and bottom line in the mid 1980s. Family Feud As
Andersen s consulting business continued to grow, tensions within the firm mounted. The

internet. People are attacked and publically shamed for all to see through social media platforms
such as Facebook, Twitter and much more. The idea of media shaming is an important idea to
consider and to question about the effects that it has on a person s life. People should care about
the issue because it can happen to anyone, at anytime, from just one simple mistake. The idea of
public shaming through the internet is not an acceptable form of punishment in modern society
because it can cause deep and long lasting psychological damage, cause people to lose their jobs,
and allows the perpetrators to hide behind a screen and remain unidentified.
One of the major reasons why public shaming is not an acceptable form of punishment in today s
society is because it can cause deep and long lasting psychological damage. Usually after someone
has received their punishment they can move on with their lives but when someone is humiliated
they get psychological damage with effects that can stay with them for the rest of their lives. In the
article Hide and Seek, Neel Burton says that, Humiliation is traumatic and often hushed up, whereas
embarrassment, given enough time, can be sublimed into a humorous anecdote. What Neel is really
saying here is that although someone can be embarrassed, the

Intergenerational Upward Mobility
Nanay (Mother), a 2009 testimonial play on verbatim research interview transcripts of Geraldine
Pratt in collaboration with the Philippine Women Centre and Filipino Canadian Youth Alliance on
Filipino Live In Caregivers (LCP) of British Columbia, tells one story, among others, of a young
woman who was left behind in the Philippines in the care f her father. Her monologue highlights
her urge to drop out of high school, the conflict she has with her mother, and her compromised
future. Though she was pursuing a university study in the Philippines, her educationambitions
shrank in Canada. Rather, she completed a six month medical assistant course because of its

This structural approach suggests that the low educational outcomes of Filipino youths in Canada
is an effect of their mother s migration pathway through the LCP, which is inevitably exacerbated
by economic, familial, social, and cultural expectations and factors that are complex and
multifaceted. They were left behind children when they lived in the Philippines and they then are
prone to becoming left behind students in Canada due to these intersecting factors. This idea
suggests the need to bridge the gap in studying the separation of mothers and children (left behind)
and their settlement or family reunification in Canada. Below are tables showing this paper s

Knowing Your Metabolism
Bobby enters the house and he has a look in his eye, he s rocking back and forth on the balls of his
feet, just waiting to burst.
Yes, Bobby, what are beaming at the rim to tell me?
Unable to contain himself now, he burst forth with information. I was talking to Chucky Tuna
across the fence a few minutes ago. Chucky mentioned that his sister s friend, who told him that
since he was big boned, and getting older, his metabolism has slowed down and get this, THAT was
why he put on those extra dozen pounds. He was smiling now confident that he stumped me. Wait,
wait. Why are you shaking your head? He asked.
I m sure you ve probably heard something along Bobby s justification and obviously, if it s spoken
enough and with conviction, it must be true right? Wrong. Let s talk about metabolism. Everybody,
and every living thing, has a metabolism and it often gets the blame for weight gain. This has been
the subject to numerous studies, research and articles. The Mayo Clinic (insert article citation)
Metabolism is the process by which your body converts what you eat and drink into energy. The
great thing about the human body is it s a giant machine which constantly burns energy, even when
we are at rest or sleep. This burning of calories is known as your Basal Metabolic Rate, which is the
minimum calorie requirement to sustain basic processes such as your heart pumping, circulation of
blood around the body, and regulating the body s core functions. These are calories the

Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda
One of the most crucial aspects of any person s life is that they feel accepted by those who are
most important to them. For many, these people may include romantic partners, family, friends,
co workers, and classmates, among others. However, as a result of this need for acceptance,
many individuals may be afraid to reveal secrets in fear of being rejected by those who matter
most to them. For example, in Becky Albertalli s Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, readers
follow sixteen year old Simon Spier as he attempts to prevent the fact that he is gay from
becoming public knowledge at the hands of a blackmailer. Despite his efforts, Simon s secret is
forcibly revealed, and he must brace himself for the unpredictable reactions from everyone he...

While it may seem like everyone is involved in everyone else s life in high school, this is not the
case, for Simon notes that his group of friends have their own little world. For example, this can
be seen when Simon describes the scene at his lunch table whenever it is someone s birthday:
There s a massive sheet cake at lunch, and when I get to the table, everyone is wearing party
hats. That s the tradition. No one gets cake without the hat (Albertalli 82). Simon goes on to
state that, while they may receive peculiar looks, some classmates try to join in on the fun just
to obtain a piece of cake. This shows that it is illogical to think that everyone is focused on every
little detail about every other person, since groups of friends in high schools can have their own
quirky traditions without being ostracized. However, despite all of this, the possibility of
backlash from classmates isn t something to rule out. While it is unlikely that every single
person will go out of their way to harass Simon, it is also illogical to think that everyone will
accept him as well. As previously mentioned, Simon lives in a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia, which
is an area not necessarily known for its liberal views. This can be seen when Simon states, At

Sweatshop Labour
INTRODUCTION
Sweatshop workers make the ultimate sacrifice for profit. Merchandise in the garment industry are
outsourced and produced by slave labourers forced in working conditions that are cruel and
exploitative, often in fear of punishment. A sweatshop is defined by the US Department of Labor as
a factory that violates two or more labor laws (Do Something, 2016). Human trafficking in the
garment industry is prevalent globally, but astronomical numbers are concentrated in developing
countries such as Indonesia and Vietnam. Multimillion dollar, globalized companies have no
accountability and turn a blind eye to the exploitation towards trafficked victims occurring behind
the scenes in fear of jeopardizing company reputations. This research ... Show more content on

The countries listed in the table are organized by decreasing wages. At the top of the list, both being
developed countries, the United States and the United Kingdom earning significantly higher hourly
wages. There is a common misconception that sweatshop labourers work in these conditions
voluntarily because it s their only opportunity to employment and allows them to sustain the cost
of living. Because of the lack of transparency in the industry, consumers are unaware of the fair
pay that these labourers are owed. Those who are trafficked into sweatshop labour usually do not
have a choice. Trafficked sweatshop labour victims are all held against their will and forced to
work primarily to give businesses the best chance at earning a profit. Moreover, as they continue to
be underpaid, or often times not paid, they are unable to provide themselves with adequate living
conditions for themselves or their family members. Appropriate and fair compensation for labour is

Abstract Over a three week time span I was able to successfully identify an unknown
microorganism by combining the results of several tests. The first test was the Gram stain test
which showed the microorganism was Gram positive and rod shaped. Using an Unknown
Identification Flowchart, I proceeded to inoculate a Starch plate. In week 2, I analyzed the Starch

The decolorized Gram negative cells are stained pink. With the results from the Gram stain I was
able to follow the Unknown Identification Flowchart to the next step, which was to prepare for the
Starch Hydrolysis Test by inoculating a starch plate. Starch is a polysaccharide made up of glucose
molecules. Some bacteria have an enzyme called amylase which breaks starch down into glucose
subunits. The Starch Hydrolysis test is used to determine the production of amylase. Iodine, which
is the mordant used in Gram staining, is used in this test to detect the presence of starch. In order
to do the Starch Hydrolysis Test I first inoculated a starch plate by using aseptic technique. I
streaked the middle of the starch plate with the bacteria into a single line. Then, I let it incubate
overnight at 37В°C. In week 2, after I added several drops of Gram s iodine to the starch plate it
was ready to be analyzed for starch hydrolysis. The iodine complexes with starch to form a blue
black color in the culture. Clear halos surrounding colonies is the result of their ability to digest the
starch due to the presence of amylase. With the results of the Starch Hydrolysis Test I preceded to
the final test which is the Citrate Test. Using aseptic technique, I streaked the organism onto the
surface of the Simmons citrate slant and let it incubate overnight at 37В°C. The Citrate Test

Brunelleschi s Influence To The Renaissance
In 1418, the town fathers of Florence realized they had to face a major problem. Il Duomo, the
cathedral that was built to best all others, was missing its roof. This cathedral had been constructed
in 1296 to commemorate Florence s new status as one of the most prosperous cities in Europe. The
cathedral would serve as a symbol of this new Florence. The town fathers had a vision of a
colossal dome that would rise to the heavens without support, pulling one s attention upwards. The
only obstacle was that the technology at the time could not accommodate a dome of the scale as
planned, with a diameter of 180 feet. A competition was announced with the prize of 200 florins,
which was more than a craftsman s two year wage at the time.

His biggest influence was most likely founding architecture as a separate and unique branch of art.
This established architects as more than just laborers and helped raise their status. Architects and
other artists in general received more credit for their work. Another similarly important influence
Brunelleschi had was popularizing the classical style by visiting and examining the ruins of Rome.
This helped repair the disintegrated reputation of Rome. This also established a new idea of beauty
that was achieved through harmony, symmetry and abiding by classical rules and styles. These
rules helped some artists to create individuality and to experience greater artistic freedom.
Brunelleschi s creation of new machinery was still impactful, but less so than the others. This
revolutionary technology ignited a new reliance on science and technology until the point where
math and the arts were inseparably intertwined. Brunelleschi s construction of the dome of Il

classical style and creating a symbiosis of the arts and

Atheist And Atheism
The term atheism comes from the Greek word atheos, meaning godless. Atheos is derived from
a, meaning without, and theos, meaning deity . An Atheist has no religious belief. An Atheist
does not believe in a god or gods, or other supernatural entities. They reject a belief in the
existence of God or gods and those who simply choose to live without God or gods, and often
disbelief in the soul, afterlife, and other beliefs arising from god based religions. An Atheist has no
specific belief system. They accept only that which is scientifically verifiable. Since god concepts
are unverifiable, they do not accept them.
Atheism is commonly divided into two groups; strong atheism and weak atheism. This distinction

Freethinkers include atheists, agnostics and rationalists. Freethinkers never conforms everything in
the scriptures and religious books and any prophets or messiah. They think that revelation and blind
faith are invalid and thus no guarantee of truth. The concept of free thinking refers to the process of
making decisions and arriving at beliefs without relying solely upon tradition, dogma, or the
opinions of authorities. Usually the context of this is only in religion, although a person can be a
freethinker in other areas as well. In place of tradition or dogma, freethinkers insist upon using
reason, logic, and evidence as the bases for forming reasonable and justified beliefs. Superstition is
rejected in favour of science. Most freethinkers are also atheists or agnostics although that is not

Blockbuster Out Of Business Essay
Blockbuster Out of Business In order to maintain a thriving business, the company must be able
to meet all the requirements needed in order to be successful. There are many different factors
that contribute to company s shutting down and becoming bankrupt, one of the main reasons
why companies go out of business is because either the customer service was questionable, the

counterparts. One business in particular that used to be the go to place to pick up the hottest

long reign of being at the top. Blockbuster was one of the main chains for DVD rentals as well as

Barbara Ascher s On Compassion
Compassion, though seemingly straight forward, is actually a complex beast, springing from a
variety of sources, including some less than flattering ones. These sources can include pity, fear,
and self advancement, which are rarely associated with something as good as being
compassionate. However, in On Compassion , by Barbara Ascher argues that compassion is
something that must be learned through experience, not something one is born knowing, by
giving examples of the actions of those who have enough towards those who do not, in order to
stress the importance of taking note of others and their situations. Often, people try to avoid
those who are less fortunate. People have a tendency to look away from those who have fallen
on hard times, as though they are not even there (Para. 2). People tend to look away from things
that disgust them, pretending they do not exist, and move on with their lives. In the case of the
less fortunate, they do so to protect their world of cocktail party complaint[s], a world in which
they are perpetually victimized by life (12). These people can only see what they feel is a great

people. It causes guilt, a feeling most strive to avoid, and forces people to step outside of their

for a second, and recognize the less fortunate would be to break down one s self centered fortress,

Foreclosure is a dangerous issue that has swept our nation in the last few years. Americans are
losing their homes due to jobs being lost, home values falling, and banks lending out more money
than homeowners can afford. Despite the multitude of issues that arise out of foreclosure, the main
problem at hand can be almost solely traced to the economy. The recession has put many people
out of work, made taking out loans more difficult, and has caused a nationwide panic. Therefore, to
completely solve the foreclosureproblem, it is necessary to trace the issue back to its roots, being
the economy. This would take fifty pages to discuss, so this paper seeks to solve one aspect of

groups (keeping in mind that various subgroups can be created for a broader variety of situations).
The highest priority group (Group A) must meet the requirements that follow. Homes must have
been bought before January 1st, 2009, and the loans must have been financed by Fannie Mae or
Freddie Mac. Borrowers must be current on their payments, and must not have missed a payment
for one year before requesting the refinance. The group with the second highest priority (Group B)
could have purchased their home either before or after January 1st, 2009. However, if the loan was
taken out after the date, residents must wait one year (with no missed payments) to apply. Those
who qualify for Group B must not have any delinquencies yet, but they can have missed two
payments at the most. Therefore, while they do not have to be current on their payments, if they
exceed missing two payments, resulting in a delinquency, they must be eligible for Group C.
This lower priority group must have a delinquency, before or after the bank starts the process of
foreclosure. This group would need to be behind on their payments, missing at least three. While
all of these groups are eligible for a refinance, Group A will be able to refinance for the greatest
volume of customers at the highest loan

Introduction Among various nutritional problems prevalent in India, deficiency of vitamin A is
quite severe and is affecting mainly malnourished children and women. Efforts have been made
from time to time to combat vitamin A deficiency (VAD) using various food stuffs. Vegetables oils
are an essential ingredient in cooking and are the chief source of dietary fat, which is one the
essential nutrient required by human beings. A wide variety of edible oils are available in the
market viz.groundnut oil, soybean oil, mustard oil, safflower oil, sunflower oil etc. under various
brand names. However, these oils are devoid of ОІ carotene and can contribute a little to alleviate
VAT. Crude palm oil, which is an excellent source of О
І carotene, can be used for blending with
commonly used cooking oils and can help to overcome the deficiency of Vitamin A. Palm oil is
extracted from the mesocarp of the fruit of oil palm (Elaeis guineensis) and the oil is derived
from the kernel seed of the palm (Poku, 2002). Palm oil has a characteristic dark red color
because of a high amount of beta carotene (Lai et.al.,2015; Ng and Choo,2016).Palm oil is
commonly used as cooking medium in Africa, Southeast Asia and parts of Brazil due to its lower
cost (Behrman et al, 2005). and its nutritional and health attributes have been well

The Role Of Ritalin In Relation To Drug Abuse
Some researchers claim that Ritalin does not lead to drug abuse. Everyone who has taken Ritalin
does not use other drugs. Biederman, who is a researcher, conducted a research about Ritalin and
the connection to drugs. Biederman stated, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity (ADHD) boys treated
with stimulants such as Ritalin are significantly less likely to abuse drugs and alcohol when they
are older rather than ADHD boys who are not treated. This evidence proves that Ritalin reduces the
possibility of drugabuse later in life. On the other hand, other researchers claim that the addictionof
Ritalin has a connection with other drugs. Ritalin has characteristics of other drugs such as cocaine.

the 12 and explain how you or someone you know relates to three of the 12 .
Albert Ellis was born in Pittsburgh in 1913. During his childhood, he described himself as a
stubborn and pronounced problem solver . A serious kidney disorder turned his attention from
sports to books and the divorcing of his parents led him to work at understanding others. He wanted
to become the Great American Novelist, where he planned to study accounting in high school and

I can definitely relate to this because I am in college trying to better myself. I want to achieve as
much as I can in life to better my life and my future families life. I am constantly bettering myself
because I want to be something in life. I accept myself as I am now, but I am striving to make
something great out of my life.
9. The idea that because something once strongly affected our life, it should indefinitely affect it
instead of the idea that we can learn from our past experiences but not be overly attached to or
prejudiced by them.
10. The idea that we must have certain and perfect control over things instead of the idea that the
world is full of probability and chance and that we can still enjoy life despite this.
Rule 10 about irrational ideas pertains to my life. I can relate to this because I am a
perfectionist, I try to plan everything out in my life. I like to live based on a schedule, but
instead I need to realize that life has its up and downs. It s hard to plan everything out and
sometimes you just need to go with the flow. This is hard for me because I like knowing what I
am doing every minute of the day, I hate

Justice And Injustice As Depicted In Plato s Republic
There are those among you who would say that I am nothing more than an old woman who has
no understanding of the law and therefore justice. However, how many of you that would look
away from the injustice we daily serve, can also say with truth that there is not a secret place in
your hearts where you know I am right. Fear of reprisal, the absence of conviction, and reliance
on continued failed representation does not show clarity of thought. The inability to recognize or
acknowledge that the Republic is in crisis shows only an allegiance to those who have placed us
here with their selfish preponderance of autocratic government. Let us now stand together as one
people and say that we have learned the lesson of the Optimates and we reject... Show more content

Did we as a people learn nothing through generations of slave revolts? Did we not hear the cries
of those who were born free only to suffer the oppression of a conquered collective? We watched
as the Provincials themselves rose against Rome, but generations did nothing and as a collective
we allowed our voices to remain silent or only whispered in support. The now silent voices of free
people from Hellenistic states who died slaves cry out. Those who died slaves in Sicily even after
the Senate passed their decree giving freedom to slaves who are allies to Rome cry out. The
voices of those who cried out during the Social War now demand to be heard as equals and again
cry out. Let us now look historically to Plato and currently to Cicero who has given us outlines of
equality among all people which we should follow. Let the natural law guide us before the self
interest of individuals destroys us. Let us not fall to tyrants who would have us believe that law
created by tyrants serves the masses. If a law cannot be applied equally to all among us, then that
law cannot be allowed to stand for all of us. Similarly, a law that protects a few cannot also
protect all that are part of us. Let us as a people embrace the notion that the natural law is a law
that dictates

Descriptive Essay On Vikings
The air smelling of wings and burgers whipped my hair behind my ears as my dad s best friend
threw me up on his shoulders in celebration. Adrian Peterson had just rushed two yards for the
Viking s fourth touchdown of the night. Five minutes to go in the quarter and the NFC
Championship game was tied. A combination of anticipation and excitement swirled within me
as my dad and uncle are discussing our Super Bowl XLIV tickets. The energy permeating
through the G Allen s Restaurant and Sports Bar was electrifying as Ryan Longwell of the
Minnesota Vikings kicked off to Courtney Roby with 4:52 left in the fourth and final quarter.
The New Orleans Saints, with a chance to win, only gain eight yards in four plays. Just like that,
the Minnesota Vikings have possession with over two minutes left. Just like that, my dad s
dream of a Vikings Super Bowl is possible. Brett Favre and Adrian Peterson successfully led the
Vikings all the way to the New Orleans 33 yard line. My dad and I exchanged nervous glances as
they are long range in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I clearly remember the moments of pure joy and excitement, but I will also never forget how
heartbroken I felt when the Vikings lost. More importantly, though, it was the place where my
dad and I really bonded over something. As a kid, I always remember loving my dad so much,
but this is really when he became my best friend. Ever since, we have watched every Vikings
game together for nearly eight years. Not only do we love to watch and talk about football, but
we play fantasy football in the same league I even beat him in the championship game last year!
Clearly, I love football; but what I love most about it is that it is something I get to share with
my dad. Overall, G Allens will always have a special place in my heart not only because that is
where it was broken eight years ago but because it is what brought me my best

Greeks and Africans Americans
Native American religions are very closely connected to the land in which Native Americans dwell
and the supernatural. While there are many different Native American religious practices, most
address the following areas of supernatural concern: an omnipresent, invisible universal force,
pertaining to the three life crises of birth, puberty, and death , spirits, visions, the medicine people
and communal ceremony. Greek religion encompasses the collection of beliefs and rituals
practiced in ancient Greece in the form of both popular public religion and cult practices. These
different groups varied enough for it to be possible to speak of Greek religions or cults in the
plural, though most of them shared similarities. Africa... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first arrivals were young boys bought by American naval officers and philanthropists on the
Turkish slave block. They were sent to the United States for education and freedom and many
distinguished themselves as teachers or naval officers.
It was not until the turn of the century that the yearly Greek immigrants numbered a thousand or
more. They were mostly young men and boys escaping poverty by sailing towards the bright light
of America. Some came to avoid the compulsory three year military service in the Greek army
where a peasant youth could seldom rise above a menial. A great many came from those parts of
Greece still under Ottoman domination which conscripted Greek youths into the dreaded Turkish
infantry.
From Ellis Island they made their way about the streets of New York, searching for someone with
the same ethnic characteristics as their own who could help them find work. Sometimes they
wandered about, lost in the city s maze, until a labor agent, through signs, offered them work in
mills, factories, or road gangs elsewhere. The more fortunate ones, who knew countrymen already
working in the textile cities, went directly to them. But some of these men could not adapt to the
noise and confusions of the factories and their spirit of adventure led them to climb freights and
travel over the plains and mountains to the west.

Poor Cash flow management may bring about lack of working capital and in this way undermine
the maintainability of a venture. While industry has extensively acknowledged successful cash flow
management as an execution change component, the prevalence of scholastic examinations
concerning the connection between money streams and execution looks at the issue from a static,
benchmarking viewpoint (Ebben and Johnson, 2011; Farris and Hutchison, 2002, 2003; Moss and
Stine, 1993). Compelling cash flow management includes anticipating, arranging, observing and
controlling of money receipts and instalments. Project cash flow is for the most part registered in
light of assessed expense and income over the development time frame.
3.0 Concept of cash flow
Just characterized, cash flow is the development of assets all through a business, while cash flow
management concentrates on the planning of moving assets. This is regularly a matter of
incredible significance to venture administrators, in light of the fact that regardless of the fact that
an undertaking is gaining great specialized ground is on timetable, it will be viewed as a monetary
failure in the event that it comes up short on cash. Projects that experience the ill effects of poor
income at last bring about extra expenses and, perhaps, critical postponements too. In some cases,
be that as it may, notwithstanding getting extra cash or ceasing work until assets are gotten may not
be variable choice.

The History of Microsoft Windows
Microsoft was co founded by Paul Allen and Bill Gates in 1975. Microsoft had a huge vision of
putting a computer on every desk top and in every home. In June 1980 IBM approached
Microsoft about a project called CHESS . They came up with a new operating system called MS
DOS this introduced a whole new language to the general public, since the system brought
difficulty to people to read they set out to find a better way to make an operating system. In 1982
1983 Microsoftbecomes the first to work on the new operating system the code name is interface
manager, but they then decide in 1983 on the name windows because it describes and fits the
description of a computer screen. It was said that skeptics called it vaporware. It took two years to
develop windows after it was thought up. In November of 1985 Microsoft ships out Windows 1.0,
with this software you were able to navigate around by using a mouse. This software was made for
serious PC users. In December of 1987 Windows 2.0 was released with desktop icons and expanded
memory. The Intel 286 processor was what windows 2.0 was created for and when Intel 386
processor was created the windows 386 was released.
In 1988 Microsoft becomes the largest software company based on sales. In 1990 windows 3.0 was
released and in 1992 windows 3.1 was released. At this time Windows software was installed with
floppy discs. With windows 3.0 you were able to use program file and program manager, you were
also able to play games. Windows

Theme Of Revenge In Beowulf
Beowulf spoke ,son of Ecgtheow:/ Do not grieve, wise sir.It always better/to avenge ones friend than
mourn too much. (Beowulf,11.1383 5)
Explain the role of mourning or revenge in Beowulf
Revenge is a central theme in Beowulf and induces many characters throughout the poem.
Initially we see the infuriation that infests Grendel and the instant revenge and destruction he
conveys upon Beowulf s kingdom.Revenge almost motivates and acts as a fuel to the fire
Grendel is experiencing .We are introduced to the character of Grendel in line 86 of the poem and
we are given an immediate explanation of what type of creature he is , a monster , a demon. Then a
powerful demon, a prowler through the dark nursed a hard grievance
(Unknown, Beowulf ,lines 86 87).Grendel has a soul purpose to demolish the kingdom due to the
pain and suffering he has to live with because of the fate and heritage he was given when he ...

Grendles mother is another key character surrounding the theme of revenge . Personally I find the
character of Grendles mother extremely thought provoking and I found myself drawn to look into
the character in more detail.
When Grendel returns to his lair surpassingly injured this sparks the motivation of revenge
within his mother .As a character she is perceived as a monster yet in the eyes of a twenty first
century reader she is merely a woman who is grieving her sons death and retaliating towards
those who murdered him . Revenge does not have to be associated with malice and evil , as she
was a woman she was labelled monster due to her rash decisions and thirst for vengeance. In the
time of the text, women were supposed to be gentle peace keepers any woman who acted out of
the ordinary had to deal with major consequences ,exile or assassination. Her revenge was not out
of spite ,it was purely fuelled by a mothers fury

Essay On The Oppression Of Women In The Handmaid s Tale
In The Handmaids Tale woman s bodies have become political tools, public assets in an attempt
to correct the dramatic decline in birth rate due to environmental and social instability under a
patriarchal order. In the novel, Atwood portrays the oppression of woman in Gilead as being
economically and politically maintained by force, as well as being illustrated and controlled
linguistically. In Gilead the idea of female silence is taken literally as womanare forbidden from
reading and writing, as a result all writing has been removed from public spaces and replaced with
pictures, they decided that even the names of shops were too much temptation. Woman have

  • 3. Nietzsche Genealogy Essay Let us begin from how Nietzsche frames genealogy first and foremost as a genealogy of morals . Accordingly, it is crucial that we understand what Nietzsche takes morality to be. According to Richard Schacht, morals [...] are most properly thought of as a loosely related family of norms pertaining to humanconduct of various sorts [...] . Moreover, Schacht adds that morals are to be seen in relationship with our forms or spheres of life [...] the various sorts of sociocultural formations and configurations [...] setting the contexts of the greater part of what we variously do in the course of our socioculturally articulated lives . Morals are therefore normative codes according to which we orientate ourselves in the context of different spheres ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Portrayal Of Women In The Odyssey Essay hough women play a central role in The Odyssey written by famous author Homer the portrayal and characterization of said women highlights the negative portrayal of women at the time as well as shows double standards that still plague our society today. All of the women are characterized with few traits, most of which only describe their looks, while the reader is constantly reminded of all of Odysseusgood traits, most of which have nothing to do with his looks. Even Penelope, who is portrayed as the ideal woman, is only ever described as beautiful and faithful . Sadly, this sexism is reflected in the Ancient Greek s patriarchal society in which women were considered the property of men and they were married off with or without consent at very young ages. Women play a central role in the Odyssey, yet due to the Ancient Greek s society prejudices the women are written in a way that clearly highlights the double standards of society and the way men used to portray women. In the society of Ancient Greecewomen were never in charge of their own decisions and often had little to no say in them and were often married at young ages and were judged, not by her own achievements, but by their looks, and the wealth and status of their fathers or husbands. Even Penelope seems to acknowledge this when she says My looks, my face, my carriage, were soon faded or lost. knowing that is what the people of the Ancient Greek society judged people on. After Odysseus is presumed dead, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Why Philadelphia Is Not For Affordable And Nutritious Food Philadelphia is not exceptional in terms of the characteristics or poverty status from its residents when compared to other large urban areas. Yet it has the second lowest number of supermarkets of major cities in the nation. The greater Philadelphia region has seventy two fewer supermarkets in low income neighborhoods (Duane Perry). This shortage of supermarkets means that poor residents must travel out of their neighborhoods to purchase food, or shop at more expensive convenience stores with less selection and often poor quality. The insufficient access to affordable and nutritious food in lower income neighborhoods reduces the chance for a healthy lifestyle. There were neighborhoods throughout Philadelphia where residents couldn t easily buy healthy foods like fruits and vegetables. And science shows us that people who live in these underserved neighborhoods are more at risk for serious diet related diseases like obesity(Food Trust website). They began with one farmers market at Tasker Homes, a public housing development in South Philadelphia. Once a week, with the help of the Tasker Homes Tenant Council, they set up one long table overflowing with produce. It happened to be the only source of fresh fruits and vegetables in the community. The Food Trust works with neighborhoods, schools, grocers, farmers and policymakers in Philadelphia and across the country to change how we all think about healthy food and to increase its availability. The Food Trust efforts with its partners resulted in the creation of the Fresh Food Financing Initiative. It was the nations first statewide financing program to increase supermarket development in underserved areas. The Food Trust is a nonprofit organization that continues to ensure that all children who live in communities have access to safe, healthy and affordable food. Their key goal of this project is to stimulate the development of supermarkets in lower income neighborhoods. Since then, much has happened, and the EU is now considered more than just an economic collaboration. This brings along both new challenges and new opportunities when considering the future EU. Recent developments has shown an increasingly worry about the economic situation in the EU (REFERENCE GREECE AND SPAIN), which challenges the legitimacy of the EU as solely an economic union if the internal economy is falling apart, how can we then justify the upholding of the union? This has become a major concern to several EU countries. One example is the United Kingdom,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The political relationship between nation states is built upon negotiations between national governments. In this sense, the theory draws upon an ration actor model , where the nation state is the primary analytical unit of interest, and intergovernmental negotiations are the context (Cini, 2007, p. 97). More precisely, Moravcsik writes that Actors calculate the alternative courses of action and choose the one that maximizes (or satisfies) their utility under the circumstances. (Moravcik and Schimmelfennig, 2009, p. 68). He argues that nation states in the EU seek to maximise economic profit based on existing preferences. This form of rationality indirectly implies that a collaboration between EU countries is undesirable when there is no economic profit to be made by the nation state. This also means that the theory is unable to accommodate alternative forms of political integration. If one believes in the idea that EU integration is (or should be) built upon economic profitable results alone, then it should be no surprise that the EU is currently witnessing the appearance of an increasing number of euroscepticist parties within several EU countries. The other main theory about EU integration, namely the neofunctionalist (NF) tradition, opposes the idea of LI in several ways. One of the main differences is the NF notion of positive spillover effects, e.g. that integration within the economic sector provides strong incentives for integration within other sectors. ... It could even be argued that many important landmarks in our state history were defined by acts of reform, such as the implementation of direct democracy into its state constitution during the progressive era of the late 19th and early 20th century. In modern California, it could be argued that there has been no greater landmark than the passage of Proposition 140. During the 1980s, the California legislature had built a reputation as one of the most professional legislatures in the country and for good reason. For one, the legislature enjoyed relatively low turnover rates between 1979 and 1989, with the assembly ranked in the 16th country and the senate ranked 3rd (Petracca, pg.11). But, following implementation of Proposition 140, instability was very pronounced in the in the first years particularly in the assembly. For the first 8 years after the implementation of term limits, speakers of the assembly were generally inexperienced and ineffective, lasting only for budgets and an election. It was not until the appointment of John A. Perez in 2009, that the assembly began to stabilize Another aspect of instability and ineffectualness of the assembly has been its committees. Due inexperience of assemblymen, the process of identifying flawed legislation through gatekeeping has not been used as effectively as it has in the past. Prior to term limits, the percentage of failed bills stood at around 36.3%. After term limits, it was 23.3%. So, without experienced assemblymen, bad policy is more likely to go through ... People are attacked and publically shamed for all to see through social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and much more. The idea of media shaming is an important idea to consider and to question about the effects that it has on a person s life. People should care about the issue because it can happen to anyone, at anytime, from just one simple mistake. The idea of public shaming through the internet is not an acceptable form of punishment in modern society because it can cause deep and long lasting psychological damage, cause people to lose their jobs, and allows the perpetrators to hide behind a screen and remain unidentified. One of the major reasons why public shaming is not an acceptable form of punishment in today s society is because it can cause deep and long lasting psychological damage. Usually after someone has received their punishment they can move on with their lives but when someone is humiliated they get psychological damage with effects that can stay with them for the rest of their lives. For many, these people may include romantic partners, family, friends, co workers, and classmates, among others. However, as a result of this need for acceptance, many individuals may be afraid to reveal secrets in fear of being rejected by those who matter most to them. That s the tradition. No one gets cake without the hat (Albertalli 82). Simon goes on to state that, while they may receive peculiar looks, some classmates try to join in on the fun just to obtain a piece of cake. This shows that it is illogical to think that everyone is focused on every little detail about every other person, since groups of friends in high schools can have their own quirky traditions without being ostracized. However, despite all of this, the possibility of backlash from classmates isn t something to rule out. While it is unlikely that every single person will go out of their way to harass Simon, it is also illogical to think that everyone will accept him as well. Starch is a polysaccharide made up of glucose molecules. Some bacteria have an enzyme called amylase which breaks starch down into glucose subunits. The Starch Hydrolysis test is used to determine the production of amylase. Iodine, which is the mordant used in Gram staining, is used in this test to detect the presence of starch. In order to do the Starch Hydrolysis Test I first inoculated a starch plate by using aseptic technique. I streaked the middle of the starch plate with the bacteria into a single line. Key words Palm oil, sunflower oil, groundnut oil, oil blends, samosa, cutlet Paper type Research paper Introduction Among various nutritional problems prevalent in India, deficiency of vitamin A is quite severe and is affecting mainly malnourished children and women. Efforts have been made from time to time to combat vitamin A deficiency (VAD) using various food stuffs. Vegetables oils are an essential ingredient in cooking and are the chief source of dietary fat, which is one the essential nutrient required by human beings. A wide variety of edible oils are available in the market viz.groundnut oil, soybean oil, mustard oil, safflower oil, sunflower oil etc. under various brand names. However, these oils are devoid of ОІ carotene and can contribute a little to alleviate VAT. Crude palm oil, which is an excellent source of О І carotene, can be used for blending with commonly used cooking oils and can help to overcome the deficiency of Vitamin A. Palm oil is extracted from the mesocarp of the fruit of oil palm (Elaeis guineensis) and the oil is derived from the kernel seed of the palm (Poku, 2002). Palm oil has a characteristic dark red color because of a high amount of beta carotene (Lai et.al.,2015; Ng and Choo,2016).Palm oil is commonly used as cooking medium in Africa, Southeast Asia and parts of Brazil due to its lower cost (Behrman et al, 2005). and its nutritional and health attributes have been well ... Biederman stated, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity (ADHD) boys treated with stimulants such as Ritalin are significantly less likely to abuse drugs and alcohol when they are older rather than ADHD boys who are not treated. This evidence proves that Ritalin reduces the possibility of drugabuse later in life. On the other hand, other researchers claim that the addictionof Ritalin has a connection with other drugs. I want to achieve as much as I can in life to better my life and my future families life. I am constantly bettering myself because I want to be something in life. I accept myself as I am now, but I am striving to make something great out of my life. 9. The idea that because something once strongly affected our life, it should indefinitely affect it instead of the idea that we can learn from our past experiences but not be overly attached to or prejudiced by them. 10. The idea that we must have certain and perfect control over things instead of the idea that the world is full of probability and chance and that we can still enjoy life despite this. Rule 10 about irrational ideas pertains to my life. I can relate to this because I am a perfectionist, I try to plan everything out in my life. I like to live based on a schedule, but instead I need to realize that life has its up and downs. It s hard to plan everything out and sometimes you just need to go with the flow. • 46. Justice And Injustice As Depicted In Plato s Republic There are those among you who would say that I am nothing more than an old woman who has no understanding of the law and therefore justice. However, how many of you that would look away from the injustice we daily serve, can also say with truth that there is not a secret place in your hearts where you know I am right. Fear of reprisal, the absence of conviction, and reliance on continued failed representation does not show clarity of thought. The inability to recognize or acknowledge that the Republic is in crisis shows only an allegiance to those who have placed us here with their selfish preponderance of autocratic government. Did we as a people learn nothing through generations of slave revolts? Did we not hear the cries of those who were born free only to suffer the oppression of a conquered collective? We watched as the Provincials themselves rose against Rome, but generations did nothing and as a collective we allowed our voices to remain silent or only whispered in support. The now silent voices of free people from Hellenistic states who died slaves cry out. Those who died slaves in Sicily even after the Senate passed their decree giving freedom to slaves who are allies to Rome cry out. The voices of those who cried out during the Social War now demand to be heard as equals and again cry out. Let us now look historically to Plato and currently to Cicero who has given us outlines of equality among all people which we should follow. Let the natural law guide us before the self interest of individuals destroys us. Let us not fall to tyrants who would have us believe that law created by tyrants serves the masses. If a law cannot be applied equally to all among us, then that law cannot be allowed to stand for all of us. Similarly, a law that protects a few cannot also protect all that are part of us. Let us as a people embrace the notion that the natural law is a law that dictates ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Descriptive Essay On Vikings The air smelling of wings and burgers whipped my hair behind my ears as my dad s best friend threw me up on his shoulders in celebration. Adrian Peterson had just rushed two yards for the Viking s fourth touchdown of the night. Five minutes to go in the quarter and the NFC Championship game was tied. A combination of anticipation and excitement swirled within me as my dad and uncle are discussing our Super Bowl XLIV tickets. The energy permeating through the G Allen s Restaurant and Sports Bar was electrifying as Ryan Longwell of the Minnesota Vikings kicked off to Courtney Roby with 4:52 left in the fourth and final quarter. The New Orleans Saints, with a chance to win, only gain eight yards in four plays. Just like that, the Minnesota Vikings have possession with over two minutes left. Greek religion encompasses the collection of beliefs and rituals practiced in ancient Greece in the form of both popular public religion and cult practices. They were sent to the United States for education and freedom and many distinguished themselves as teachers or naval officers. It was not until the turn of the century that the yearly Greek immigrants numbered a thousand or more. They were mostly young men and boys escaping poverty by sailing towards the bright light of America. Some came to avoid the compulsory three year military service in the Greek army where a peasant youth could seldom rise above a menial. A great many came from those parts of Greece still under Ottoman domination which conscripted Greek youths into the dreaded Turkish infantry. From Ellis Island they made their way about the streets of New York, searching for someone with the same ethnic characteristics as their own who could help them find work. Sometimes they wandered about, lost in the city s maze, until a labor agent, through signs, offered them work in mills, factories, or road gangs elsewhere. The more fortunate ones, who knew countrymen already working in the textile cities, went directly to them. But some of these men could not adapt to the noise and confusions of the factories and their spirit of adventure led them to climb freights and travel over the plains and mountains to the west. (Beowulf,11.1383 5) Explain the role of mourning or revenge in Beowulf Revenge is a central theme in Beowulf and induces many characters throughout the poem. Initially we see the infuriation that infests Grendel and the instant revenge and destruction he conveys upon Beowulf s kingdom.Revenge almost motivates and acts as a fuel to the fire Grendel is experiencing .We are introduced to the character of Grendel in line 86 of the poem and we are given an immediate explanation of what type of creature he is , a monster , a demon. Revenge does not have to be associated with malice and evil , as she was a woman she was labelled monster due to her rash decisions and thirst for vengeance. In the time of the text, women were supposed to be gentle peace keepers any woman who acted out of the ordinary had to deal with major consequences ,exile or assassination.
