A Butcher s Tale And Alain Corbin s Village Of Cannibals
Helmut Walser Smith s A Butcher s Tale and Alain Corbin s Village of Cannibals,
present case studies of historical accounts which demonstrate the power of masses
and of crowd violence in the small Prussian town of Konitz and the isolated French
village of Hautefaye. Small towns are generally attributed to communal
characteristics where citizens help and protect one another; however, the events that
unraveled in these two cases generated a shock factor to the neighboring towns as it
exemplified the power of rumor and the overall naivety of the inhabitants of the two
towns. These case studies are also reflections of how the most civilized of societies
are able to resort to barbaric actions through mere hearsay and allow their prejudices
to shape their perception. This paper will examine the dynamics of the crowd, the
explanation for the unfolding events and the ways in which both authors reach their
conclusions of the unraveling of these events. The particular unfolding of events in
both case studies of the historical accounts of violence which occurs in these two
small towns is explained through the notion of rumor as a news source. Smith s A
Butchers Tale investigates the anti Semitic violence in the town of Konitz
reconstructing the murder of an eighteen year old boy Ernst Winter whose body had
been found brutally dismembered. At first the murder goes unnoticed; however, two
days later body parts slowly start to make their way around town followed by the

Sample Exercise Program Plan for a 20-Year-Old Pregnant
Woman
Introduction The client is in her late twenties and four months pregnant with her
first child. She is concerned about maintaining muscle tone and flexibility so that
she can have her baby naturally. She does not express any concerns about
managing her weight gain during her pregnancy and, indeed, she is tall and
proportionately streamlined. However, she confesses to never having truly
engaged in an exercise program since she graduated from college. The
considerations we have reviewed and the exercise regime that we have selected for
her is outlined below. A review of the client s history did not reveal any health
concerns. Specifically, we discussed the following special conditions that could
cause us to limit her exercise routine: heart problems, asthma or chronic lung
problems, high blood pressure, muscle or joint problems, any persistent bleeding,
and / or placental problems. Extreme weight problems either underweight or
overweight and a history of problems with previous pregnancies were not a concern
for this patient. Since the client did not have an existing exercise program, she was
reminded to take it relatively easy, listen to her body, and modify exercises as
needed. We also discussed the importance of getting clearance from her attending
physician before starting the exercise routine. In addition, we reviewed ways to
ensure she was sufficiently hydrated when exercising and what clothing would best
contribute to her ability to move freely and yet be

compluvium, which was positioned directly above the impluvium, a basin area to

the atrium in line with the fauces. The visitors gaze was then cleverly directed to the
owner of the house by a sequence of architecturally framed planes against a backdrop
of an alluring glimpse of the garden beyond. From this dominant position, the master
of the house appeared to control the boundaries of his home. (Figure 13)
Most of the activity took place in the atrium. Ancestral portrait masks and household
gods were familiar sights. There was often a loom for spinning and weaving to show
guests that the matron of the home worked with wool and was therefore of exemplary

This is significant for the discussion of ritual to note the difference in suburban villa
house structure verses the previously stated traditional Roman house. The Roman
Villa has long been epitomized as an elegant and luxurious refuge, and a haven
removed from the commotion of everyday life. Even in antiquity the time spent at
villas were synonymous with pleasure, wealth, and leisure. As the letters of Cicero
and Pliny expressively demonstrate, the aim of every wealthy noble was to have
several villas, or country residences, preferably with immaculate views. This
acceptance of more opulent style of life has been regarded as an acculturation effect
resulting from Rome s expanded rule into the western and eastern Mediterranean, and
their direct contact with the Hellenistic world. Roman aristocrats began to desire
lavish surroundings to match their sense of power and dominance. This new way of
life called for opening the house to the landscape and including gardens within the
inhabited space. The Roman Villa s clever orientation of porticos, dining rooms, and
bedrooms to take advantage of particular vistas shows that Roman aristocrats and
their architects consciously included nature and the landscape in their designs to
enhance them and add a new dimension to the inhabitant s enjoyment. As one can see
within each Roman dwelling,
The Relationship Of Duddy Kravitz
The Apprenticeship of Life
The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz by Mordecai Richler is the story of a boy
who goes through life, learning the ways in which the world works while
endeavoring to gain prosperity. Duddy s resoluteness to be prosperous is at the very
core fuelled by the over reverence of his brother Lennie by his father and his uncle.
Duddy spends his life endeavoring to enhance the relationships in his life, but
eventually hurts them as he cerebrates that at the terminus, mazuma is the only thing
that will buy him bliss. The ultimate edification that Duddy has an arduous time
learning throughout the novel is genuinely discovering who he is as a person. He
endeavors to be sundry variants of people as he transitions from a poor boy ... Show

Duddy is a crooked businessman since all of his deals involve ruthless
manipulation, relentless pursuit and corruptness. When Duddy s grandfather
implemented this vision into his head, he learns valuable lessons about life that he
never in a million years would have guessed that it would of turned him into the
arrogant, conniving person he became. He learns a couple amazing lessons from
his grandfather. A very defining moment for Duddy is when Simcha goes and sits
in the vehicle after he shows simcha the land. Simcha is embarrassed that his words
created the monster of Duddy s morals and Duddy truly comes into realization that
he has failed his apprenticeship when his greatest and most looked up to teacher is
ashamed of him. Instead of earning the land, Duddy took advantage of a
handicapped, vulnerable and emotionally weak Virgil, he sold people terrible

the one person that Duddy wants to to please at all costs and with the loss of his

of time that by instilling the idea of A man without land is nobody, (Richler 108)

The Application of the Spanish Language in the Culture
and...
In 2011 the Pew Research Center produced a survey which claimed that
approximately 37.6 million people living in the United States spoke Spanish in their
homes(Gonzalez Barrera and Lopez). While that may not seem like much keep in my
mind the fact that, this number reflects around 10% of the total American population;
and the number of Spanish speakers coming to this country is ever increasing. All of
this being said some people, in the government or elsewhere, would see the Spanish
languagemarginalized or even totally forgotten in our national identity. I m here to
say that we shouldn t forget something that has helped shape the diverse fabric of our
nation for hundreds of years. Instead of simply denying the fact that Spanish is...

Some may not know however that it was founded as a Spanish colony in 1605;
making it one of the oldest cities in the United States to date(Carter). Realistically
you d be hard pressed to find a region of our country that hasn t in some way been
influenced by Spanish settlers. And the effects of this heavy colonization was even
very apparent 200 years ago. By the mid 19th century even, it is estimated that
100,000 people in the present day Southwestern region of America spoke Spanish.
So its fairly obvious that large populations of Spanish speakers in the US are nothing
new and are in fact what some would call, normal.
The states of Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, California, and Florida were all Spanish
colonies at one point and even today remnants of that culture still linger in their
language, which is spoken extensively throughout these and more states. And in a
few of these states, Spanish maintains a status of a minority language which allows
official notices and documents to be printed in English and Spanish. All of this
being said one of the most surprising facts is this; the United States of America is
the fifth largest Spanish speaking country in the world. Only the countries of
Mexico, Spain, Colombia, and Argentina speak more Spanish than the United
States(Remeseira); and all of the nations official language is Spanish. Of course
some will ask, how is this relevant? or why do all of these useless facts matter? .

Smart Growth And Historic Preservation
Smart Growth and Historic Preservation:
An Old Idea With a New Name
Abstract:
In present day America, historic preservation is not just for the historic home, but
rather a component of smart growth; which utilizes space in cities where buildings
have already been established. With businesses closing, cities feel the crippling
effects on its economy and with that consideration in mind; cities can reinvent
themselves with the abandoned spaces for city growth through adaptive reuse. To
find out just how beneficial using the abandoned buildings, further research needs to
be conducted on the movements associated with historic preservation using adaptive
reuse. These elements will help provide evidence or lack thereof that historic
preservation is actually a form of smart growth. Based on the observations from the
historic districts in cities like Charleston, South Carolina, I believe historic
preservation is a form of smart growth due to the adaptive reuse of current buildings
(i.e. Warehouse becomes lofts and businesses).... Show more content on

Cities supporting historic preservation utilizing adaptive reuse have been selected
based on criteria later explained in the methods. I will use journals, articles, books,
and public records in order to gather more information concerning this topic. Using
historic preservation will help planners use mixed use development, which is an
aspect of adaptive reuse. The research will show the importance of preservation verse
new construction. The reasons why new construction is damaging not just to the
history lost but also to the farmlands and open spaces. Research will include a
comparison of what is being done today and past historic preservation techniques used

The Benefits Of Organic Food And Organic Foods
As consumers, we see the label organic in most supermarkets that we shop at every
day, but do we know what makes certain food items obtain the label organic? There
is much controversy on the topic organic foods and for good reason. There are many
factors to take into account when decided if organic food is superior to
conventionally grown foods. There are key components that all amount to how
nutritious your food is. It all comes down to the quality of the land that the food is
grown on, the farming technique, the elimination of toxic chemicals, and the increase
in certain beneficial vitamins. The only downside to being pro organic foodis the
slightly increased price tag. Despite the increased cost, organic foods are a healthier
choice compared to conventional chemical ridden foods.
In the United States, organic food has become so popular people don t have to
grow their own food or even find a farmers market to be able to obtain organic food.
You can typically find it in supermarkets everywhere. Organic farminghas been
around for quite some time; it first became popular during the 1940s. Throughout the
decades, people gained more knowledge on the benefits of farming and eating
organic. George Kuepper, a sustainable agriculture specialist, notes, . . . while one
can t say that the 60 s counterculture invented organic farming, it is fair to say that it
created the organic industry (9). During this time period, there was more information
available about the dangers of

When the economy is strong, companies can lapse into sloppy cash management
practices (Jill Andresky Fraser, 1998). Two types of sweep accounts are available for
the decision of the fees that can be charged. Controlled investment accounts are more
profitable of the sweep accounts, maintaining enough funds to cover checks while the
other funds are placed into overnight investments. End of day sweep accounts are
safer for the small business owners, but offer a late hour cutoff with controlled
investments. When the firm has excess cash, it will invest in marketable securities,
and when it needs cash for current assets, it will usually either sell marketable
securities or borrow funds from short term leaders (Block, Stanley B., 2005). Short

The financial manager should keep notice of the movements in the account for the

Ludwig Van Beethoven And The Romantic Era
In order to explore the career of Ludwig van Beethoven, and his bridging the gap
between the classical and romantic eras of music, this essay will examine the style
of music and its features, most commonly associated with the Classical era (1750
1820), and those of the Romantic era (1815 1820) . It will look at some musical
examples from Beethoven s work, how they fit into each of the eras, and also how
they transition from one era to the next. Beethoven s career spans both eras
mentioned above, from his public debut in Vienna in 1795 to his death in 1827.
This essay will strive to explore the reasons why Beethoven is called a transitional
composer. To begin a discussion on the classical era, let us first look at some typical
musical features of the era and how Beethoven used and developed them in his works.

Looking at melody lines to begin with, composers in the romantic era tended to use
longer phrases which were more songlike. Melodies tended to lead to a climax or
peak and the use of chromaticism and expression increased. Beethoven s
development of expression was second to none, some of this possibly owing to the
trauma that he suffered, both as a boy, in the hands of his father, and as a man with
his increasing deafness and the unrequited love. Beethoven s music sets in motion
the lever of fear, of awe, of horror, of suffering, and wakens just that infinite longing
which is the essence of romanticism. Beethoven s symphony in C minor was
mentioned earlier in this essay, and was used to show features of the classical era.
This symphony epitomises the transition from classical to romantic as it contains the
forward moving features of the romantic era as well. The longer melody line climbs
and climaxes and leads the listener forward into the spirit of the
Cosi Fan Tutte Analysis
Cosi fan tutte Review Have you ever stared at stage full of people never knowing
what they are saying? Have you ever heard words that sound like gibberish making
it extremely painful for you to understand? Have you ever tried to decipher a
cryptic language that keeps you from unfurling the truth? The play, Cosi fan tutte,
by W.A. Mozart and Lorenza De Ponte, fails to impress the audience by making its
dialogue frighteningly difficult to understand. This musical drama, at its best, is
ineffective which can be shown by its recurring dreary themes and its shockingly
limited relatability. Perhaps it only redeemable quality is it genuine and dedicated
cast, who try to add humor and excitement to this otherwise monotonous opus.
Music lies at the heart of every opera. If the songs of the opera fail to impress the
audience, it can spell disaster for the performance. The compositions of Cosi fan
tutte prove to be dour and repetitious, ultimately setting a bleak and distressing
atmosphere. For instance songs such as Sento oddio, che questo piede and Di
Scrivermi ogni giorno address the same topic of Ferrando and Guglielmo leaving
their fiancГ©s Fiordiligi and Dorabella and going off to war. In both of these songs,
the men try to appease their clearly distressed fiancГ©s and in both of these songs
the fiancГ©s give and overly dramatic performance of heartbreak. The themes of
heartbreak, affliction and separation coupled with the repetitive nature of the songs,
serve to create a
Theme Of Loneliness Of Mice And Men
Loneliness And The Characters of John Steinbeck`s novella Of Mince and Men
John Steinbeck`s novella Of Mice and Men is about two migrant workers, George
and Lennie who are seeking work at a ranch due to the difficult times of the Great
Depression. This period in time forced families to move or separate, leading people
into a lonely existence. The men who left for a work never really had anybody by
their side. Yes, many individuals may have surrounded one another, but it is clearly
shown that the characters never felt at home. It is evident that loneliness is a theme
in this novella. It is brought forth by three characters: Candy, Curley`s wife and
Crooks.
A welcoming old man, Candy, happily greeted George and Lennie as they arrived to
the ranch. Always accompanied by his sheepdog, Candy was content with his
company. Although, it is indisputable that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She is symbolism for boredom and loneliness. The lack of the name calling shows
the disconnection between her and the rest of the workers. She is the only lady on
the on the ranch and is always looking for someone to talk to. She often approaches
George a and start rambling on ...Seems like they ain`t none of them cares how i
gotta live... (88). Again, no one was listening. She is very lonesome in the little
house. Curley doesn`t truly love her, he may be using her for sexual intentions and
doesn`t want her speaking to any of the men. Therefore, she always pretends to
search for her husband when she knows where he truly is. She is using it as an
excuse to see the workers when she says: Think I don`t know where they all went?
(77). It`s obviously an excuse because later on in the story, she admits that she
doesn`t love Curley. It is important to feel loved by someone. The lack of
communication between her and her husband is guiding her into a world of
loneliness and even worse, she`s being pushed
How the Fall of the Soviet Union Has Affected The World
In 1989, the world saw the fall of the United Soviet Socialist Republic (U.S.S.R.),
which was also known as the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union was a block of 15
Communist Eastern European states that was ruled by one government with various
puppet governments located throughout the states. Its collapse brought about new
issues that the world had never had to deal with before. The fall of such a large
block of Soviet states created many problems and some of the solutions that were
used to solve these problems, as well as many of the tensions that were created during
this time, still affect the world today. Some of the ramifications resulting from the
Soviet Unions collapse are still being felt; however, many problems have been solved

This evidences how, in the wake of the fall of the Soviet Union, the creation of new
nations has caused tensions that affect the world today. Another repercussion of the
Soviet Union s collapse was the failure of the economies of almost every new post
Soviet country. Most of the economies of the new Republics were left in shambles
after the collapse. In Russia, people were not ready for the new economic freedom
that resulted from the fall of Communism. Their unpreparedness led to inflation.
Inflation caused prices to go up three hundred percent in the first month, and 2,591
percent by the end of 1992. ( Russian Economy in the Aftermath of the Collapse of
the Soviet Union) Just three years after the Soviet Union s fall, Russia s inflation
rate had skyrocketed to 2591 percent, evidencing that Russians were not prepared
for such a rapid evolution, going from a communist economy into a capitalist
economy. All post Soviet countries had the same economic fate as Russia, plunging
into worse economic conditions than the United States suffered during its Great
Depression. For example, in 1992, the Ukraine had almost a fifteen percent drop in
its gross domestic production and Latvia suffered a 33 percent drop. (GDP growth)
Many of these countries economies are still suffering as a result of the rapid evolution

Genie Book Report
I recently read a very interesting book called Genie. At first it seemed odd for a
book to have such a name, but that didn t matter until I saw the cover. What I saw
on the cover was a girl who went through so much and she can never forget what
happened. Genie revolves around a young girl, Genie , who has suffered traumatic
abuse and neglect as a young child. When she is discovered because her mothertook
her to an appointment at a local DHS office, the scientific community over reacts to
the potential information they may discover about the human psyche. This turns out
to be a battle between Genie and her recovery. It focuses on this girl who wanted to
be loved, but gets nothing except ignorance. The book describes Genie s case and
explains what caused her psychological issues. I mean to quote this because it made

The story basically emphasizes what happens in the cause of child abuse. It taught
me that children are to be taken care of no matter who they are and no matter how
they are. Genie unfortunately had no one besides her mother to care for her, but she
is living proof and an inspiration that child abuse is wrong.
The author tells us about the rehabilitation and the results of the many
psychologists who came to visit her. She showed little beyond this, and Kent
reported in a 1972 symposium paper that apart from the peculiar laugh, frustration
was the only other clear affective behavior we could discern (pg. 41). Even though
Genie is unable to speak more than three words, she can still portray certain
feelings according to this quote.During the story, Genie was strapped to a baby
potty seat for a long time. She is barely fed and rarely cared for. This journey
describes her terrible experience in living with a man who lost his mother and is now
distraught. I really enjoyed however the findings of those psychologists with

The Irish Potato Famine
Research Paper: Irish Potato Famine
Beginning in 1845 and lasting for six years, the potato famine killed over a million
men, women and children in Ireland and caused another million to flee the country
(The History Place Introduction). During the 1840s many Irish citizens lived in
poverty. For food, the Irish relied almost entirely on potatoes because of their low
cost and nutritional value. Then a devastating potato blight began in Europe in 1845
and destroyed the crops every year until 1851. Due to Ireland s poor government the
citizens we not able to recover from the famine quickly.
Before the famine in the mid 1800s, many English politicians and social reformers
began to think that Ireland was a nation in need of transformation, that it s people
now needed to be yanked into the modern world by tossing out the old Gaelic
traditions (The History Place Before the Famine). The English reformers wanted to
end Ireland s cycle of poverty and misfortune because in the 1800s poverty was
thought to be caused by bad moral character (The History Place Before the
Famine). The English politicians and social reformers also wanted to change the
laid back lifestyle of the Irish peasants. They professed the virtues of hard work,
thrift and self reliance and regarded the Irish as totally lacking in these qualities, a
point of view also shared by many British officials and politicians (The History Place
Before the Famine).
Ireland s population doubled to over 8 million
Meaning Of Happiness
There s no question that everyone wants to be happy within their lives. The only
source of disagreement lies within how one achieves happiness and what happiness
really means. The authors within the book Pursuing Happiness have their own
meanings of happiness and what it takes to achieve happiness. Topics such as: what
happiness is, what brings happiness, what role does money play in happiness, etc. In
this first discussion, we see what the some of the authors have to say about the
meaning of happiness. Someone such as his Holinessthe Dalai Lamawould argue that
happiness is having peace and satisfaction within one s mind. As a tibetan monk, he
believe that happiness occurs within the self (Dalai Lama and Cutler 23). In contrast,
Thomas Jeffersonwould explain that happiness is actually the opportunity to freely
choose one s path within life. Freedom, in eyes, would be the embodiment of
freedom (Declaration of Independence). In would also argue that happiness stems
from the feeling of self worth, that you have a place within this world. As we see
here, the true meaning of happiness all depends on the person. There is no right or
wrong answer because we each perceive happiness in a different manner. This is
important because it also means that there are different opinions in which someone
can achieve happiness. When it comes to achieving happiness, there are two things to
consider; physical and spiritual. Some people believe that happiness can come from

Can Adults Get Acne Essay
Can Adults Get Acne? When when we think of acne, we often imagine an

not true for everyone. Adult Acne can Impact Anyone Many people regain a clear
complexion once they reach adulthood. Yet, for others acne continues to hold them.
Some people may even experience acne for the first time during their adult years. It
is not unheard of to experience acne in your 30 s, 40 s, and even 50 s. The Rhyme

discomfort from some of the treatments. If discomfort does not get you, the price

Oskar Schindler s Death Of The Jewish Ghetto
Many words can be used to describe Oskar Schindler; partier, alcoholic, womanizer,
etc, but the most unlikely word that can be used is savior, which he proved to be in
the 1940s. Schindler was definitely a sinner, but he did the unthinkable at the time,
He [Schindler] was no saint. And yet, the same man would prove to have depths of
courage and humanity rare at any time even rarer during the time in which he lived.
(Roberts, pg. 6). During the grueling years of the Holocaustand World War II, Oskar
Schindlerproved that love and kindness still existed by rescuing over 1,000 Jewish
residents of Krakow, Poland. By doing this alone, the Nazis would have killed him
because at that time, it was even illegal to be touching a Jew, let alone saving them.
One major factor that led to the saving of the Jews was the liquidation of the
Krakow Jewish Ghetto, Schindler witnessed a few hours of beastiality with which
the liquidation [of Krakow] was executed. The horror of what he saw undoubtedly
played a role in his indignation and his unfailing and compassion with the persecuted
[Jews]. (Thompson. pg. 138). After the invasion of Poland, the Nazis set up several
ghettos around the country, one of which was in Krakow, where they held Jews.
Eventually these ghettos didn t seem worthy of Adolph Hitler s Final Solution so
these ghettos were liquidated and thousands of it s residents were massacred and sent
to concentration camps, Schindler experienced one of these liquidations. Oskar
Ltcc Based High Voltage 3 D Power Module
LTCC Interposer Based High Voltage 3 D Power Module

Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, AR, USA
Abstract In this paper, a low temperature co fired ceramic (LTCC) interposer based
high voltage (13 kV) half bridge power module is proposed. The proposed power
module utilized multi layer LTCC interposers to perform 3 D stack, which provides
series connection between devices to achieve high voltage rating of the power
module. The proposed 3 D stack can be implemented through wafer level packaging
using silicon (Si) and silicon carbide (SiC) devices where paralleling of multiple
devices is required to achieve high current. In the proposed high voltage package
design, through hole vias are implemented to form electrical connections between
multi layer self aligned LTCC interposers. The LTCC interposers also provide
excellent high voltage breakdown insulation for the proposed package design. The
package exhibits lower parasitic inductance compared to the traditional wire bonded
counterpart. In this paper, the feasibility of the proposed power module design was
simulated.

Progeria
Hutchinson Gilford Progeria Syndrome
Abstract
Hutchinson Gilford syndrome, or Progeria, is an extremely rare genetic disorder
when children age at a tremendous pace. Although children born with Porgeria tend
to look healthy, they begin to display many characteristics of fast tracked aging
around 18 24 months. These children develop growth failure, a loss of body fat and
hair, aged looking skins, stiffness of joints, cardiovascular disease and strokes.
Children with Progeria die of atherosclerosis (heart disease) at an average age of
thirteen years (with a range of about 8 21 years). Progeria is extremely uncommon;
only about one out of eight million people have it. Ninety percent of children with
Progeria have a mutation on the gene ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These childrens older physique and health problems are not a nightmare, they are
everyday life. Progeria is a tremendously uncommon genetic disorder with atrocious
symptoms, much research, but no cure. Progeria comes from the Greek word
progeros meaning prematurely old (Gordon 66). Progeria also known as Hutchinson
Gilford Progeria Syndrome, is an extremely rare and fatal genetic disorder that assists
in accelerated aging. Symptoms of old age start manifesting in new born babies
affected with this condition. These children age around six times faster than normal
human beings, therefore resulting in an incomplete shortened life. The average age
of death for progeria patients is thirteen, but in reality their body functions as if they
were eighty (Gilford). The condition was discovered independently by two scientists,
Jonathan Hutchinson in 1886 and Hastings Gilford in 1897(Online). The other name
for progeria, Hutchinson Gilford Progeria syndrome (HGPS), honors these two.
These two men brought the mysterious disease to light for further investigation.
Progeria is extremely unusual. Since first recorded in 1886 there have been 140 cases
worldwide (RamГrez 22). That means the condition is estimated to affect 1 in 4
million newborns. Presently, there are 80 children in 34 countries that have known
cases of progeria (RamГrez 22).
Marine Corps History Essay
Marine Corps History On November 10, 1775, the Continental Congress passed a
resolution stating that two battalions of Marines be raised for service as landing
forces with the fleet. This established the Continental Marines and marked the birth
of the United States Marine Corps. Serving on land and at sea, early Marines
distinguished themselves in a number of important operations, including their first
amphibious raid on foreign soil in the Bahamas in March 1776, under the command
of the Corps first commandant, Capt. Samuel Nicholas. The 1783 Treaty of Paris
ended the Revolutionary War and as the last of the Navy s ships were sold, the
Continental Navy and Marines disbanded. Following the formal re establishment of

At the outbreak of the Korean War, no Marine unit of any size was based or
deployed in the Far East. The Corps supporting establishment was so small and its
tasks for maintaining Marine Corps bases so extensive that many FMF troops spent
more time housekeeping than training. The Marine Corps share of the federal
budget was simply not enough to buy adequate manpower, training, or new
equipment. The main threat to the nation was seen in inflation and unbalanced
budgets rather than in the Soviet armed forces. On the eve of the Korean War, the
FMF seemed doomed to fall to six battalion landing teams and twelve squadrons in
1950. While Marine units were taking part in the post war occupation of Japan and
North China, studies at Quantico, Va., concentrated on attaining a vertical
envelopment capability for the Corps through the use of helicopters. Landing at
Inchon, Korea, in September 1950, Marines proved that the doctrine of amphibious
assault was still viable and necessary. After the recapture of Seoul, the Marines
advanced to the Chosin Reservoir only to see the Chinese Communists enter the
war. In March, 1955, after five years of hard fighting, the last Marine ground forces
were withdrawn. More than 25,000 Marines were killed or wounded during the
Korean War. The realities of the Korean War brought major changes in the basing and

As many people approach their 30 s and 40 s they might have a mid life crisis. This
is where they start thinking about their life on a deeper level and what are they

The Challenges Of Immigrants In South Africa
Countless United states citizens declare that immigrants come to the United States
to break the law, take jobs away from natives, and seek aid from the government.
Many do not stop to ask the question why immigrants come to this country? Or why
are they willing to work at such a low wage? Coming from immigrant family
myself, I have been judged and condemned by my background. But no one has
bothered to ask my background story of what is feels to come from an immigrant
family. I feel no shame and I feel proud where I came from, several will say horrible
things about immigrants. Still I am one of the millions of immigrants that are in this
country going through similar challenges. As president of South Africa, Nelson
Mandela, once mention Do not judge me by my success, judge me by how many
times I fell down and got back up again.
I grew up in a Mexican household, even though I was born in the US. My first
language was Spanish. My parents use to work in the tobacco fields from 4:00 am
all the way to 6:00pm in a good day. While in school I was teased for not being able
to speak English; or for dressing funny, and always smelling like a farm, eating
weird foods. I felt depressed at moments, but thankfully my mother would always
keep my mind busy. She would say The only people that are rich in life are not the
ones with money in their pockets, it s the ones that doesn t think twice to lend a hand
to someone in need.

The environment is exposed to risk of transportation, storage, disposal or destruction
of cyclohexane. For example, spillage can cause fire, explosion and contamination of
the surroundings (water, soil and air). However, the risk can be reduced by having a
proper handling of the chemical substance.
Cyclohexane can form explosive mixtures with air within the range of 1.3 to 8.4%
by volume. It has low reactivity. An explosion has been recorded when liquid
nitrogen dioxide was accidentally mixed with hot cyclohexane in a nitration column
(MCA 1962). Book 4 page 508

Freshman Year Value
As a girl who has gone through freshman year, I have learned what you should
really value in your freshman year. The relationships you make in freshman year,
the grades you make, and the way you walk with the Lord your freshman year are
so important for you to have a great freshman year. Relationships in your freshman
year can affect the way your year goes. Quality over quantity is so important. You
want friends that will stick with you through everything. Godly friends who will
support you, and be there for you are the best. Freshman year can be tough and things
can become stressful with school. I know I have broke down crying because school is
stressful, but your grades are important. Procrastinating may seem okay at the

do you picture when you read this quote? A young boy? A grandmother? You are
most likely picturing a black woman. But why is this? Have you actually ever heard
a black woman speak like this? My guess is probably not. So then why do you picture
a black woman? It could be because black women are often portrayed in movies and
television shows as loud and obnoxious characters, often accompanied by very
vibrant body language and proclamations of how independent they are. The trope of
the sassy black woman became popular on The Amos n Andy Show. The show
featured a woman named Sapphire, the demanding, finger waving wife of her
husband George. Since the popularity of this show, and specifically this sassy

SUV VS GUYS
As the years have gone on we have seen many changes in the differences and roles
of gender. Little have we thought of seeing cars taking a role of gender, in this
case an SUV. SUVs have taken the role of a male with a feminine touch. Dave
Barry s Guys vs. Men is a funny, interesting and in fact true effort at explaining who
guys really are, and why they are that way.
Reptile Dreams focuses more on characteristics of an SUV that reflect the
characteristics of men. Both authors produced a strategically strong essay in
reference to their point of view with their own personal touch using a topic that they
know most about.

My theory is the reptilian always wins, he said, If there s a crash, I want the other guy
to die. Of course, I can t say that aloud. Hence, the rationale for owning an SUV, and
willingness to put others at risk rather than themselves in a crash situation. Again,
questioning the rules of moral behavior. For Rapaille, the archetype of a sport utility
vehicle reflects the reptilian desire for survival. People buy SUVs, he tells auto
executives, because they are trying to look as menacing as possible to allay their
fears of crime and other violence. The Jeep has always had this image around the
world because of it its heavy use in war movies and frequent appearances in
newsreels from the 1940 s and 1950 s, and newer SUVs share the image.

Christian s name is shortened to Chris, Cyrano is shortened to CD, and Roxanne s

included in the movie. This includes Comte De Guiche, Ragueneau, Le Bert,
Liniere, and some others. These characters were replaced in the movie by fire

not in the book; Dixie is Cyrano and Roxanne s best friend who owns a restaurant.
The setting is based in towns in both the movie and book. However, the book s
setting was in a rural France and the movie takes place in a modern suburban in
America. The time period in the book was 1640 and the time in the movie was in
present day. The conflict is similar at the beginning of both stories. Cyrano loves

Therefore, Christian has Cyrano write letters to Roxanne pretending that Christian

In the book, Christian is killed in the war. Cyrano never tells Roxanne that he wrote
the letters and ends up dying at her side fourteen years later. In the movie, Roxanne
leaves to go to a convention instead of Christian leaving for war. Christian ends up

Essay on The Importance of Community
Community is very important and has many factors like kinship, unity, and identity.
Community helps society because it creates solutions, provides security and reveals
dedication. It discovers truthfulness. Communities are part of everyday life and
have positive affects on its members. Communities can be found everywhere and
can be created anywhere. You may be unaware of it, but you are part of a
community not only based on your location, but also based on your lifestyle, your
religion, your heritage, your education, or your abilities. As Hewitt once said,
Community provides a psychological world and a place of identification for its

Observing others behaviors lets one realize and understand more about different
types and kinds of people. Seeing how certain groups or communities act or react to
situations lets us see more perspective and hopefully appreciate their point of view. It
is important to be part of communities for much of the same reason. When you are
part of a group, you understand and compromise with the other members of the
group. Discussing issues involving the community helps to lead to solutions. Talking
things through with other members improves social skills as well as relationships.
Knowing how people feel about certain issues let you know more about that person,
and in turn, you learn more about yourself. Hearing what other people have to say
may sway your own opinions about something. For example, maybe you are part of a
church you thought you really believed in, but hearing the discussions at the church
meetings you start to think that you do not belong in this community. Though that
specific church may be the right place for many, you learn that you need a new
church community. Churches are communities because the members are unified in
their common beliefs. These communities are like families because the members
support and help each other religiously and they feel secure. Being a sound part of a
community, you should continuously learn more and more about yourself. As a
member of a club, taking part in meetings and activities let you learn

Introduction
The structures that subscribe to different organizations play a major role and
determine how information flows throughout an organization as well as the reporting
structure within the organization. In most organizations, the decisions are made
within the upper management realm, but in other organizational groups, the
responsibility of making decisions are distributed within their own group. The end
factor for the most part amounts to a lateral structural arrangement where a variety of
branches work together in accomplishing a universal organizational goal rather than
functioning as separate groups or units. Lateral structural arrangements give a way to
coordinate and correspondence between broadly diverse viewpoints inside an
organization, and all the more regularly changing the way of
Mcdonaldization And Society

powerful nugget of cultural adaptation. In various ways, the food a society consumes
provides a context through which an individual can examine a culture s unique traits

eaten on a daily basis characterizes society. As of today, the United States has the
highest obesity rate of any industrialized nation in the world with more than half of

The start, and subsequent meteoric rise of the fast food industry in the United States
has begun a revolution that sociologists have dubbed McDonaldization. In his book
The McDonaldization of Society, George Ritzer defines McDonaldization as the
process by which the principles of the fast food restaurant are coming to dominate
more and more sectors of American society as well as the rest of the world (Ritzer,

taking the assembly line mentality and applying it to the kitchen.
Fast food companies focus on four main tenets: efficiency, calculability,
predictability and control (citation). They desire to get product to the customer as
quickly and as easily as possible, crank out large quantities of cheap food, provide a
uniform product to customers at all locations, and exercise control over the customer
and employee. This mindset places so much emphasis on efficiency and profits that
all non necessities are seen as hindrances. Ecological concerns, employee safety, and
consumer health fall by the wayside as executives try new methods to cut costs and

Balance Between Sense And Sensibility In Northanger Abbey
Balance Between Sense and Sensibility in Jane Austen s Northanger Abbey
Throughout her novel, Northanger Abbey, Jane Austen integrates parody with
characterization to emphasize the necessity of a balance between sense and
sensibility while reflecting a theme of the initiation of a young woman into the
complexities of adult social life. This novel can be traced back as one of Jane Austen
s earliest works. It was written in 1798, but not published until 1818, and is an
excellent example of what Austen believed a novel should not be. In the work Jane
Austen s Novels Social Change and Literary Form, Julia Prewitt Brown states The

The first paragraph of the first chapter in the novel uses subtle Irony to depict to the
reader what Catherine Moorland was not. Catherine was not a girl with
extraordinary beauty and ability of a classic romantic heroine, but an ordinary girl
who may possibly lack extraordinary beauty and ability. In the novel, Catherine
travels to Bath where she comes into contact with silly and tasteless people, the
Thorpes. This contrast makes Catherine shine brighter. Catherine also comes into
contact with the Tilneys, who were educated, well bred people with a sense of
humor. Their influence helps Catherine to develop into a sensible character, relieved
of romantic notions, to become a charming wife for Henry Tilney.
Upon introduction in the novel, Catherine Moorland reflects a character that
epitomizes the characteristic of sensibility. In the 19th century sensibility was a
characteristic based on imagination, fantasy, innocence, passion, and creative
thinking. The conventions of the gothic novel overlap, in all its forms, with
sensibility, in part because it concerns a suffering protagonist. In this novel Catherine
s confusion of the world of romance with the everyday world begins innocently and
is the cause of her suffering. To relieve her suffering and become a mature adult
Catherine must learn to distinguish between illusion and reality, to be aware that the
imagination has the power to enforce its own slanted vision upon the world. Through

Human Condition In Hamlet
A metaphysical rendering of William Shakespeare s revenge tragedy play Hamlet
serves to embody the struggle of the human condition, in which the coalesce of
corruption, deception, delay, and mortality reflects our underlying moral principle.
The adoption of the Senecan and Aristotelian tragedy conventions and use of theatre
as the lens to view the Elizabethan Machiavellian Zeitgeist has contributed to the
textual integrity of Hamlet. Altogether, Shakespeare s exploration of the ubiquitous
aspects of the human condition permeates through contextual barriers, hence
contributing to Hamlet s canonical status.
Through the corruption that lies at the core of humanity, Shakespeare explores the
ontological battle for moral justice. Immediately, the question Who s there? in the
exposition develops an angst ambience, foreshadowing a Denmark wrought with
corruption. This foreboding sense of corruption is further implored by the
supernatural connotation of Hamlet s Father s apparition and natural imagery Tis an

Claudius and Gertrude s immoral disposition is constantly preserved by a public
façade. Claudius is represented as a proficient orator; whose controlled vernacular

messages. The juxtaposition between Claudius public and private persona is
captured by the paradoxical phrase with mirth in funeral and with dirge in marriage .
Claudius employs the aid of anaphora and sycophantic language to conceal and

Cancer is a disease that affects the lives of millions of people worldwide everyday,
including students in the education system. This disease is covered under IDEA, and
falls under the category of Other Health Impairments, which is defined as a medical
condition that results in limited strength, vitality, or alertness due to chronic or acute
health problems that affect a child s educational performance or ability. There are
many examples of Other Health Impairments, such as Diabetes, Tourette syndrome,
asthma and heart conditions, but childhood Canceris a common disease that affect
many children in the world (Special Education Guide, 2016). Cancer begins when
normal cells change, and begin to grow abnormally and uncontrollably. These cells
divide rapidly and destroy surrounding body tissue. In many cases, the cells join
together, forming a solid mass called a tumor. Tumors can grow, invade nearby
tissue, or break apart, allowing cancerous cells to travel to different parts of the
body. Childhood cancer begins with the same process, but can behave differently
than adult cancers, even if they begin in the same part of the body. Cancer in
children can occur anywhere in the body, including the blood and lymph node
system, the brain and other parts of the central nervous system, and the kidneys. The
most common form of childhood cancer is Leukemia, which is the cancer of the
bone marrow and blood (Cancer.net, 2014). Cancer is caused by changes in the genes

Quantum Mechanics Essay
Quantum Mechanics
Quantum Mechanics is the science of subatomic particles and their behavior
patterns that are observed in nature. As the foundation of scientific knowledge
approached the start of the twentieth century, problems began to arise over the fact
that classic physical ideas were not capable of explaining the observed behavior of
subatomic particles. In 1913, the Danish physicist Neils Bohr, proposed a successful
quantum model of the atom that began the process of a more defined understanding
of its subatomic particles. It was accepted in the early part of the twentieth century
that light traveled as both waves and particles. The reason light appears to act as a
wave and particle is because we are noticing the ... Show more content on

This observance is what Werner Heisenberg refereed to as the principle of uncertainty,
which commonly became known as Heisenberg s Uncertainty Principle. We have the
illusion that position and momentum can co exist in large objects whose inherent
action is huge compared to subatomic particles. Heisenberg realized that the
uncertainty relations had profound implications. Heisenberg set himself to the task of
finding the new quantum mechanics to explain what his theories observed. He relied
on what can be observed, namely the light emitted and absorbed by the atoms. By
July 1925, Heisenberg wrote his answer in a paper. The basic idea of Heisenberg s
paper was to get rid of the orbits in atoms and to arrive at new mechanical equations.
Heisenberg s approached focused mainly on the particle nature of electrons. The
mathematics Heisenberg used were tables commonly used for multiplication of arrays
of numbers mathematical objects known as matrices. Using the mathematics of
matrices, scientists had at last a new mechanics for calculating the quantum behavior
of particles. Heisenberg, and others showed that the new quantum mechanics could
account for many of the properties of atoms and atomic events.
Most physicists were slow to accept matrix mechanics because of its abstract nature.
Erwin Schrodinger came up with a mathematical equation which nicely described the
wave nature of electrons. Scientists gladly
The Battle Of Luzon And The Pacific Theater
The Battle of Luzon, fought in the Pacific Theater in early 1945, is remembered as
the World War Two battle which had the highest net casualties. After Luzon, the
largest island of the Philippines, was captured by the Japanese in 1942, General
MacArthur believed that it was extremely important to recapture it. This took some
time, but in 1944, a new campaign to recapture the Philippines was created. The
campaign started with attacks on Leyte and Mindoro, which prepared for Luzon. The
US, working together with the Commonwealth of the Philippines, successfully used
multifaceted assault tactics including the use of air force, naval, and ground troops to
advance from the Lingayen Gulf to the capital city of Manila. After the capture of

Although Allied troops encountered many Japanese kamikaze planes which
destroyed some warships, the Allied Air Force successfully supported their troops
on the ground. While the Sixth Army landed more troops on the beach, the I Corps
protected them and advanced eastward, and the XIV Corps moved south toward
Manila. Because of central Luzon s geographical features mostly open plains the
XIV Corps was able to quickly advance toward Manila. Around this time, another
amphibious landing of the Eighth Army occurred to the south of Manila. From
there, the 11th Airborne Division also advanced on Manila. While the XIV Corps
was advancing southward, the I Corps switched to defending their left flank.
Meanwhile, General Yamashita had his strongest forces deployed in north Luzon
and around the Clark Air Base. However, the Japanese were disorganized because of
lack of communications and were not prepared for many US attacks. On their
southward journey, when the XIV Corps reached Clark Air Base, they battled for
control until it was captured on January 29, which also gave the US more supplies
found within the base. Following this, the XIV Corps pushed towards Manila and
started the attack on January 31 from the north and south of the city. On February 4th
the 11th Airborne Division advanced into the city, but met strong Japanese defences.
They pushed through and finished capturing the defences on February 11th, and
Milton Friedman Analysis
Who should benefit, and at whose expense when running a business? Milton
Friedman maintains that profit is the only true goal, benefitting the stockholders.
However, R. Edward Freeman proposes that the needs of all a business s stakeholders
must be balanced when acting. I support Freeman s view because the environment
has changed since the time of Friedman.
Milton Friedman believes the idea of businesses having some sort of responsibility
to society is a baseless notion, and describes discussions encouraging it as lacking
meaningful analysis or precision. What does it mean to say that business has
responsibilities? Only people can have responsibilities (Friedman, p.218)1.
Corporations are led by executives which are chosen by the owners ... Show more

Maintaining an archaic business model would be foolish. Friedman argues that an
executive should not take profits away from the company to donate to the poor due
to his own responsibilities. He then uses this to state that business should never
perform any sort of act benevolent to society if it would not further the pursuit of
profits. Unfortunately for Freidman s point of view, the blind pursuit of profits is
more often viewed as wicked and immoral (Friedman, p.222). Government
regulation is much more prevalent. Focusing on profits in today s market would
soon lead your business on a sharp decline. Moving from solely focusing on the duty
to stockholders, Freeman suggests treating all stakeholders of a business as more
than a means to an end (Freeman, p.233). This can also benefit the stockholders, as
by focusing solely on increasing profits, firms can often incur the wrath of
government, forcing their hand, much like with the separation of AT T into eight
separate companies (Freeman, p.234). Stockholders are the primary beneficiary of
corporation, and their money should not be spent frivolously, but it would be
difficult to turn a profit if your suppliers, employees and customers all desert you.
Each group of stakeholders has their own desires, which must be weighed and
considered, for should one leg of business fall, the entire firm will come tumbling to
the ground.
The view that profit is the only responsibility for corporations is outdated. Friedman
s argument may have been valid in the past, but no longer applies. Regulation and
law have increased the influence of other stakeholders. To ignore that fact would be

The Position Of Ceo Of An Established Organization
Rising to the position of CEO of an established organization is a journey that takes
years of commitment, hard work, and consistent learning. Many people view
educational achievement as a guarantee to the best work positions, but that is not
always the case. Reaching the heights of success is a culmination of efforts,
continuous search for excellence through learning, discipline, and persistence. While
academic excellence is an important component of success, particularly regarding
acquiring relevant knowledge and skill, it is also important to realize that education
alone does not guarantee success. Moving from being an information management
officer to become the CEO of a top systems management company in the country
cannot be attributed solely to strong G.P.A., a bachelor degree, or my MBA.
However, these credentials played a significant role in getting an opportunity to
work for my success. There may be a variety of theories by different inspiration
speakers and mentors on what one needs to do to become successful. While most
of what they recommend may be appropriate for different situations, I believe that
the beginning of any success is built on a strong desire to excel that leads a person
to invest time and resources in a career (Hill, 2001). When the strong desire for
success develops to passion, it makes you seek the necessary knowledge and skills
to pursue particular goals. The desire to excel in academic work is reflected in
consistently improving grades and

INTERNET PROBLEM 14 1: REVENUE RECOGNITION FRAUD The Securities
and Exchange Commission (SEC) found that Bally Total FitnessHolding
Corporation, a nationwide commercial operator of fitness centers, fraudulently
accounted for three types of revenues it received from members. The SEC also
charged the audit firm and six partners for their roles in the accounting violations.

Instead, accounting standards require that Bally recognize initiation fee revenue over
the entire membership life. This means that for members who maintained their
memberships beyond the financing period, or initial period of membership, Bally
was required to defer initiation fee revenue and recognize it over the estimated
membership life, not over the term of the initial period of membership. However,
Bally prematurely recognized its members initiation fee revenue over a period that
was not only shorter than the estimated membership life, but in most instances even
shorter than the initial period of membership.
Personal Training Services: In addition to selling health club memberships, Bally also
sold personal training services (i.e., exercise sessions with personal trainers). Some
customers prepaid for sessions with personal trainers. Accounting standards require
that revenue from prepaid personal training services be recognized only when
earned, which is when the personal training services were actually provided. Bally,
however, recognized revenue related to personal training services before those
services were actually provided.
A Comparison Of France And The French
America is by far the most hated country in the World. The reason why everyone
else hates us, is that we are different and optimistic whereas others are not. The
French wrote saying that there was nothing special in America, which really
surprises me. The minister of France once said, The purpose of language is not to
communicate thought, but to conceal thought . Now I realize the French really do
not like us from this lecture and how he describes in detail in what each class thinks.
The French think that we are sloppy, bostrious, optimistic, and incurious. They
surprisingly don t hate us for our faults as in murder, rape, and stealing, but more
towards the side of letting women have an abundant amount of rights. We also

Elephant Poaching In Africa
The article I chose to read talked about a new strategy to track elephant poaching in
Africa. The mass killings have become so frequent in the past years that only 40,000
of the African elephant population is left. Furthermore, the high demands for elephant
ivory are doing little to help. Researchers believe that by using DNA from the tusks
of previously poached elephants, they can pin point exactly where the illicit acts are
happening. According to the new study, most of the killing sprees occurred around
the central and southeastern parts of Africa. Even people who were aware of the
happenings did not know the extremity of the outcomes and were essentially
unknowing of how many crimes went unnoticed. Interpol hopes that the new
evidence will
Colonialism, And Racism
Racism has been a controversial topic prevalent in social and political subject matters
throughout most areas of history. Many times, works of literature reflected these
issues that were in society and politics; the issues were usually highlighted to show
the results of such a complicated and extensive ideology. One such author that
elaborated on this system was Aphra Behn, who wrote Oroonokoin 1688. This was a
significant point in time because of how many shifts the 17th century brought to
Europe. Not only were there advances in sciences which, in turn, clashed with
Christian doctrines that were in place, discoveries of the New World caused various
countries to practice new isms. As imperialism and colonialism began to make its
mark upon the world, especially in Europe, so did racismand the problems that came
with it. Slavery, which would later become tied to racism, had already been a part
of society as early as the ancient civilizations. However, people did not feel that
slavery was a debatable issue, and it wasn t until later that people began to speak
against it. Consequently, writers often used literature as a driving force for either
contextualizing or negating such ideas, and Aphra Behn s Oroonoko can be used
as an example of this style. The complex story Oroonoko places its focus on the
character of a black slave, which is ironic on several different levels. Not only was
Aphra Behn a white woman of Great Britain, she served as a spy for Charles II at a

Harold En Italie Analysis
The second symphony by French composer Berlioz (1803 1869): Harold en Italie,
Symphonie en quatre parties avc un Alto principal, Op. 16 was commissioned but
never performed by the Italian violin virtuoso Paganini who had an intention to
showcase his new Stradivari viola. Even though Paganini trusted Berlioz to write
suitable music for his new instrument, his disappointment about a sketch in one of
the movements led to ill fated conclusion. Unluckily, due to incompetent
conductor, plentiful wrong notes and missed entries by the orchestra, the premiere
was unsatisfactory for Berlioz who later commented it was the sheer murder .
According to https://www.britannica.com/topic/Harold in Italy Op 16, Barlioz
stated, My idea was to write a series of scenes for the orchestra in which the solo
viola would be involved as a more or less active character, always retaining its own
individuality. By placing the viola in the midst of poetic recollections of my
wanderings in the [Italian] Abruzzi, I wished to make of it a sort of melancholy
dreamer after the manner of Byron s Childe Harold. Thus the title: Harold in Italy.
This piece was inspired by the English poet Lord Byron (1788 1824) and his epic
narrative poem: Childe Harold s Pilgrimage, which was dedicated to his lady
Charlotte Harley. This storyline was gained after travelling through Portugal, the
Mediterranean and Aegean Sea that is why this poem was thought to be his own
autobiography which revealed a lot of himself. Harold
Columbine Analysis
The tragic story of Columbine by Dave Cullen analysis the bitter events that were
caused by Eric Klebold and Dylan Harris. Although tough to read, the description
and imagery within the book about the intense news reports, the role both boys
played, and the somber realization of a inspirational marter story furthers the reader
s understanding of the truth. Cullen wrote with the purpose to develop each
character while going in depth to tell the truth and dispel any rumors that were
connected to the tragic 1999 massacre. Truth lied deep in the multiple news stories
that were spread across the nation in a matter of minutes. As the world became
aware of the tragedies at Columbine many ideas were widely spread, but not all of
them were true, Cullen showed the readers the truth of what happened. Distressed
students and faculty call the news to report the situation, in such a terrifying
experience their judgement and memory is clouded by fear, many people thought
that they were telling the truth but in fact it was only the truth that lies in their head.
One hour into the columbine horror, news stations were informing the public that
toe or more gunmen were behind it. Two hours in, The Trench Coat Mafia was to
blame. (Cullen 150). New was reported on what was thought to be true at the time,
but as they spoke too soon, the information that was spread across the nation proved
to be false. As Cullen analyzed thousands of papers, taped and videos he was able to
understand where
Elements And Events That Affect A Planetary Body
Geologic activity is basically the internal and external processes and events that
affect a planetary body. Geologic activity forms different things on planets
specifically Earth. Water, ice, wind, weathering, erosion all are factors in geologic
activity. One recent study that has found geologic activity on the moon was the
Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO). The LRO showed the Moon s crust being
stretched, forming valleys in some small areas on the lunar surface. Scientists believe
that the moon is in a general state of contraction because of cooling of a still hot
interior. The weak contraction suggests that the Moon, unlike the terrestrial planets,
did not completely melt in the early stages of its evolution.
The four smaller inner planets, Mercury, Venus (Links to an external site.), Earth

Women s Role As Physicians
In Medieval Italy there were some unique characteristics to how medicine and
illness were managed in Medieval Italy. The literature expands on the topics of
medical practices and the surprising fact that women were allowed to practice
medicine in a time period like this. The Women of Salerno: contribution to the

contributions to the advancement of the field of medicine in Medieval Italy.

and Ferraris V. 1997). From the school of Salerno came many rich texts about
women surgeons, which for that time was unheard of their contributions were not
limited to: textbooks of anatomy, training for physicians, the first textbook about
women s medicine and the first female medical school faculty member named
Trotula de Ruggiero (Ferraris Z. Ferraris V. 1997). For this school was not
something to be mocked, physicians trained at Salerno gained considerable prestige
and notoriety throughout southern Europe (Ferraris Z. Ferraris V. 1997). The
school of Salerno was not only progressive in its gendering of the profession but
also, produced original anatomic texts, huge collections of drug remedies based
largely on well known Arabic pharmacopeia, and one the most preeminent medical
school faculties of its time (Ferraris Z. Ferraris V. 1997).
An example of a specific case of a woman s experience from Salerno comes from the
primary source from Jansen (2009). In the text from the author Jansen, it provides an
assortment of newly translated primary sources from the central and Middle Ages. It
provides a rich history illustrating the diverse culture, architecture, and captures the
spirit of these medieval towns. It also allows for an interesting perspective into the

Theme Of The Universal Truth In Pride And Prejudice
Jane Austen, one of the greatest authors to have ever lived, begins her (arguably)
most famous work, Pride and Prejudice, with the very intriguing opening sentence: It
is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good
fortune, must be in want of a wife. this line is probably the most well known and
iconic opening sentences in English Literature. The effectiveness of this line as a
stunning opener to the novelworks on both the lexical and underlying levels: the use
of strong words like truth , universally acknowledged and the modal must all enhance
the total authoritative tone of the sentence. As an introduction to the story, this
sentence succinctly introduces the theme of the novel as a whole, making it... Show

This is brought in by the use of the word till . Up until this point, the description of
the illustrious Mr Darcy had been nothing but complimentary. However, it soon

This till is the point at which it is brought to the reader s attention that there is
more than meets the eye, and what we find is not at all flattering for Mr Darcy,
who is declared to be in possession of disgusting manners , a displeased and
disagreeable countenance and amongst other downfalls, was proud . The sheer
amount of adjectives, again, all emphasise the public s (now) poor judgement of Mr
Darcy.
The irony of the situation is proved even further by the last few words of the

admirable words; but upon the arrival of his friend Mr Darcy, is pushed aside; only
to be redeemed at the end of it all, when Mr Darcy fails to live up to the expectations
of the society, all of which was based off his

Stress in the Emergency Department
Stress, Burnout, and Compassion Fatigue in the Emergency Department Background
Nursing is a field that many enter with the intention of helping and providing care to
those with mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual needs (Lombardo Eyre, 2011).
Many consider nursing as their calling; yet have not prepared themselves for the
emotional and physical implications that come from having interpersonal
relationships with families and patients. As nurses care for the ill, traumatized, and
vulnerable patients in their charge, they inadvertently expose themselves to the pain,
suffering, and trauma that their patients are experiencing on a regular basis.
When the continued stress of this field is not dealt with, one can become a victim of
the overwhelming need that surrounds them, which can result in burnout or
compassion fatigue. This not only effects ones physical and emotional health, but
also results in decreased productivity and job satisfaction, as well as increasing job
turnover rate (Lombardo Eyre, 2011; Boyle, 2011). This concept is predominantly
true of those working in the Emergency Department, and is actually where the
context of compassion fatigue was first noted approximately two decades ago, but is
also seen across the spectrum of health care providers in all areas (Boyle, 2011).
This topic will be discussed further in the words following, as well as an exploration
of ways to overcome compassion fatigue in the workplace.

Active voice describes the sentences where the action or verb is occurring from the
subject. Furthermore, there are three examples of Ferrell as she uses several
examples of active voice throughout her poems. Ferrell begins her poem, Harmless
as Recalled by a Fairy Tale by recalling , After our rendez vous this is the last word
he said, waving to me as the train pulled away from the station (1 2), in this
sentence the active voice she is conveying is through the word waving. In this
sentence the subject is the train and the action being done is waving. In another
example of her poem of, Harmless as Recalled by a Fairy Tale , she vindicates,
Hunting out clues, I went over the roses and snows of his departed face like a
treasure map, over ( 15 16), in this sentence the word she uses to convey active
voice is through the word hunting. In this sentence she describes how as she was
departed from her lover, her world had come crashing down and sets out a
mysterious tone for the poem. In addition to the example of an active voice is in
her poem Gerburt des Monica kinds when she asserts, I was the actor who forgets

A Butcher s Tale And Alain Corbin s Village Of Cannibals Helmut Walser Smith s A Butcher s Tale and Alain Corbin s Village of Cannibals, present case studies of historical accounts which demonstrate the power of masses and of crowd violence in the small Prussian town of Konitz and the isolated French village of Hautefaye. Small towns are generally attributed to communal characteristics where citizens help and protect one another; however, the events that unraveled in these two cases generated a shock factor to the neighboring towns as it exemplified the power of rumor and the overall naivety of the inhabitants of the two towns. These case studies are also reflections of how the most civilized of societies are able to resort to barbaric actions through mere hearsay and allow their prejudices to shape their perception. This paper will examine the dynamics of the crowd, the explanation for the unfolding events and the ways in which both authors reach their conclusions of the unraveling of these events. The particular unfolding of events in both case studies of the historical accounts of violence which occurs in these two small towns is explained through the notion of rumor as a news source. Smith s A Butchers Tale investigates the anti Semitic violence in the town of Konitz reconstructing the murder of an eighteen year old boy Ernst Winter whose body had been found brutally dismembered. At first the murder goes unnoticed; however, two days later body parts slowly start to make their way around town followed by the baseless
  • 3. Sample Exercise Program Plan for a 20-Year-Old Pregnant Woman Introduction The client is in her late twenties and four months pregnant with her first child. She is concerned about maintaining muscle tone and flexibility so that she can have her baby naturally. She does not express any concerns about managing her weight gain during her pregnancy and, indeed, she is tall and proportionately streamlined. However, she confesses to never having truly engaged in an exercise program since she graduated from college. The considerations we have reviewed and the exercise regime that we have selected for her is outlined below. A review of the client s history did not reveal any health concerns. Specifically, we discussed the following special conditions that could cause us to limit her exercise routine: heart problems, asthma or chronic lung problems, high blood pressure, muscle or joint problems, any persistent bleeding, and / or placental problems. Extreme weight problems either underweight or overweight and a history of problems with previous pregnancies were not a concern for this patient. Since the client did not have an existing exercise program, she was reminded to take it relatively easy, listen to her body, and modify exercises as needed. We also discussed the importance of getting clearance from her attending physician before starting the exercise routine. In addition, we reviewed ways to ensure she was sufficiently hydrated when exercising and what clothing would best contribute to her ability to move freely and yet be

The pater familias would be most likely to stand or be seated in the atrium in line with the fauces. The visitors gaze was then cleverly directed to the owner of the house by a sequence of architecturally framed planes against a backdrop of an alluring glimpse of the garden beyond. From this dominant position, the master of the house appeared to control the boundaries of his home. (Figure 13) Most of the activity took place in the atrium. Ancestral portrait masks and household gods were familiar sights. This is significant for the discussion of ritual to note the difference in suburban villa house structure verses the previously stated traditional Roman house. The Roman Villa has long been epitomized as an elegant and luxurious refuge, and a haven removed from the commotion of everyday life. Even in antiquity the time spent at villas were synonymous with pleasure, wealth, and leisure. As the letters of Cicero and Pliny expressively demonstrate, the aim of every wealthy noble was to have several villas, or country residences, preferably with immaculate views. This acceptance of more opulent style of life has been regarded as an acculturation effect resulting from Rome s expanded rule into the western and eastern Mediterranean, and their direct contact with the Hellenistic world. Roman aristocrats began to desire lavish surroundings to match their sense of power and dominance. This new way of life called for opening the house to the landscape and including gardens within the inhabited space. The Roman Villa s clever orientation of porticos, dining rooms, and bedrooms to take advantage of particular vistas shows that Roman aristocrats and their architects consciously included nature and the landscape in their designs to enhance them and add a new dimension to the inhabitant s enjoyment. As one can see within each Roman dwelling,
  • 5. The Relationship Of Duddy Kravitz The Apprenticeship of Life The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz by Mordecai Richler is the story of a boy who goes through life, learning the ways in which the world works while endeavoring to gain prosperity. Duddy s resoluteness to be prosperous is at the very core fuelled by the over reverence of his brother Lennie by his father and his uncle. Duddy spends his life endeavoring to enhance the relationships in his life, but eventually hurts them as he cerebrates that at the terminus, mazuma is the only thing that will buy him bliss. The ultimate edification that Duddy has an arduous time learning throughout the novel is genuinely discovering who he is as a person. He endeavors to be sundry variants of people as he transitions from a poor boy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Duddy is a crooked businessman since all of his deals involve ruthless manipulation, relentless pursuit and corruptness. When Duddy s grandfather implemented this vision into his head, he learns valuable lessons about life that he never in a million years would have guessed that it would of turned him into the arrogant, conniving person he became. He learns a couple amazing lessons from his grandfather. A very defining moment for Duddy is when Simcha goes and sits in the vehicle after he shows simcha the land. Simcha is embarrassed that his words created the monster of Duddy s morals and Duddy truly comes into realization that he has failed his apprenticeship when his greatest and most looked up to teacher is ashamed of him. Instead of earning the land, Duddy took advantage of a handicapped, vulnerable and emotionally weak Virgil, he sold people terrible looking films, and scammed his way through other business ventures. Simcha is the one person that Duddy wants to to please at all costs and with the loss of his own respec he loses the test of life. Respect is a huge lesson, as he did notsee ahead of time that by instilling the idea of A man without land is nobody, (Richler 108) Duddy would continue living life by trying to accumulate more money and not by respect. Rather than becoming a popular, loved and respected businessman, Duddy becomes a lonesome, and crooked individual. Duddy choses the wrong path in life to
  • 6. The Application of the Spanish Language in the Culture and... In 2011 the Pew Research Center produced a survey which claimed that approximately 37.6 million people living in the United States spoke Spanish in their homes(Gonzalez Barrera and Lopez). While that may not seem like much keep in my mind the fact that, this number reflects around 10% of the total American population; and the number of Spanish speakers coming to this country is ever increasing. All of this being said some people, in the government or elsewhere, would see the Spanish languagemarginalized or even totally forgotten in our national identity. I m here to say that we shouldn t forget something that has helped shape the diverse fabric of our nation for hundreds of years. Instead of simply denying the fact that Spanish is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some may not know however that it was founded as a Spanish colony in 1605; making it one of the oldest cities in the United States to date(Carter). Realistically you d be hard pressed to find a region of our country that hasn t in some way been influenced by Spanish settlers. And the effects of this heavy colonization was even very apparent 200 years ago. By the mid 19th century even, it is estimated that 100,000 people in the present day Southwestern region of America spoke Spanish. So its fairly obvious that large populations of Spanish speakers in the US are nothing new and are in fact what some would call, normal. The states of Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, California, and Florida were all Spanish colonies at one point and even today remnants of that culture still linger in their language, which is spoken extensively throughout these and more states. And in a few of these states, Spanish maintains a status of a minority language which allows official notices and documents to be printed in English and Spanish. All of this being said one of the most surprising facts is this; the United States of America is the fifth largest Spanish speaking country in the world. Only the countries of Mexico, Spain, Colombia, and Argentina speak more Spanish than the United States(Remeseira); and all of the nations official language is Spanish. Of course some will ask, how is this relevant? or why do all of these useless facts matter? . They matter
  • 7. Smart Growth And Historic Preservation Smart Growth and Historic Preservation: An Old Idea With a New Name Abstract: In present day America, historic preservation is not just for the historic home, but rather a component of smart growth; which utilizes space in cities where buildings have already been established. With businesses closing, cities feel the crippling effects on its economy and with that consideration in mind; cities can reinvent themselves with the abandoned spaces for city growth through adaptive reuse. To find out just how beneficial using the abandoned buildings, further research needs to be conducted on the movements associated with historic preservation using adaptive reuse. These elements will help provide evidence or lack thereof that historic preservation is actually a form of smart growth. Based on the observations from the historic districts in cities like Charleston, South Carolina, I believe historic preservation is a form of smart growth due to the adaptive reuse of current buildings (i.e. Warehouse becomes lofts and businesses).... I will use journals, articles, books, and public records in order to gather more information concerning this topic. The reasons why new construction is damaging not just to the history lost but also to the farmlands and open spaces. Research will include a comparison of what is being done today and past historic preservation techniques used in cities having large historic

The Benefits Of Organic Food And Organic Foods As consumers, we see the label organic in most supermarkets that we shop at every day, but do we know what makes certain food items obtain the label organic? There is much controversy on the topic organic foods and for good reason. There are many factors to take into account when decided if organic food is superior to conventionally grown foods. There are key components that all amount to how nutritious your food is. It all comes down to the quality of the land that the food is grown on, the farming technique, the elimination of toxic chemicals, and the increase in certain beneficial vitamins. The only downside to being pro organic foodis the slightly increased price tag. Despite the increased cost, organic foods are a healthier choice compared to conventional chemical ridden foods. In the United States, organic food has become so popular people don t have to grow their own food or even find a farmers market to be able to obtain organic food. You can typically find it in supermarkets everywhere. Organic farminghas been around for quite some time; it first became popular during the 1940s. Throughout the decades, people gained more knowledge on the benefits of farming and eating organic. George Kuepper, a sustainable agriculture specialist, notes, . . . while one can t say that the 60 s counterculture invented organic farming, it is fair to say that it created the organic industry (9). During this time period, there was more information available about the dangers of

Two types of sweep accounts are available for the decision of the fees that can be charged. Controlled investment accounts are more profitable of the sweep accounts, maintaining enough funds to cover checks while the other funds are placed into overnight investments. End of day sweep accounts are safer for the small business owners, but offer a late hour cutoff with controlled investments. When the firm has excess cash, it will invest in marketable securities, and when it needs cash for current assets, it will usually either sell marketable securities or borrow funds from short term leaders (Block, Stanley B., 2005). • 10. Ludwig Van Beethoven And The Romantic Era In order to explore the career of Ludwig van Beethoven, and his bridging the gap between the classical and romantic eras of music, this essay will examine the style of music and its features, most commonly associated with the Classical era (1750 1820), and those of the Romantic era (1815 1820) . It will look at some musical examples from Beethoven s work, how they fit into each of the eras, and also how they transition from one era to the next. Beethoven s career spans both eras mentioned above, from his public debut in Vienna in 1795 to his death in 1827. This essay will strive to explore the reasons why Beethoven is called a transitional composer. To begin a discussion on the classical era, let us first look at some typical musical features of the era and how Beethoven used and developed them in his works. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Looking at melody lines to begin with, composers in the romantic era tended to use longer phrases which were more songlike. Melodies tended to lead to a climax or peak and the use of chromaticism and expression increased. Beethoven s development of expression was second to none, some of this possibly owing to the trauma that he suffered, both as a boy, in the hands of his father, and as a man with his increasing deafness and the unrequited love. Beethoven s music sets in motion the lever of fear, of awe, of horror, of suffering, and wakens just that infinite longing which is the essence of romanticism. Beethoven s symphony in C minor was mentioned earlier in this essay, and was used to show features of the classical era. This symphony epitomises the transition from classical to romantic as it contains the forward moving features of the romantic era as well. The longer melody line climbs and climaxes and leads the listener forward into the spirit of the
  • 11. Cosi Fan Tutte Analysis Cosi fan tutte Review Have you ever stared at stage full of people never knowing what they are saying? Have you ever heard words that sound like gibberish making it extremely painful for you to understand? Have you ever tried to decipher a cryptic language that keeps you from unfurling the truth? The play, Cosi fan tutte, by W.A. Mozart and Lorenza De Ponte, fails to impress the audience by making its dialogue frighteningly difficult to understand. This musical drama, at its best, is ineffective which can be shown by its recurring dreary themes and its shockingly limited relatability. Perhaps it only redeemable quality is it genuine and dedicated cast, who try to add humor and excitement to this otherwise monotonous opus. Music lies at the heart of every opera. If the songs of the opera fail to impress the audience, it can spell disaster for the performance. The compositions of Cosi fan tutte prove to be dour and repetitious, ultimately setting a bleak and distressing atmosphere. For instance songs such as Sento oddio, che questo piede and Di Scrivermi ogni giorno address the same topic of Ferrando and Guglielmo leaving their fiancГ©s Fiordiligi and Dorabella and going off to war. In both of these songs, the men try to appease their clearly distressed fiancГ©s and in both of these songs the fiancГ©s give and overly dramatic performance of heartbreak. The themes of heartbreak, affliction and separation coupled with the repetitive nature of the songs, serve to create a

Theme Of Loneliness Of Mice And Men Loneliness And The Characters of John Steinbeck`s novella Of Mince and Men John Steinbeck`s novella Of Mice and Men is about two migrant workers, George and Lennie who are seeking work at a ranch due to the difficult times of the Great Depression. This period in time forced families to move or separate, leading people into a lonely existence. The men who left for a work never really had anybody by their side. Yes, many individuals may have surrounded one another, but it is clearly shown that the characters never felt at home. It is evident that loneliness is a theme in this novella. The Soviet Union was a block of 15 Communist Eastern European states that was ruled by one government with various puppet governments located throughout the states. Its collapse brought about new issues that the world had never had to deal with before. The fall of such a large block of Soviet states created many problems and some of the solutions that were used to solve these problems, as well as many of the tensions that were created during this time, still affect the world today. This evidences how, in the wake of the fall of the Soviet Union, the creation of new nations has caused tensions that affect the world today. Another repercussion of the Soviet Union s collapse was the failure of the economies of almost every new post Soviet country. Most of the economies of the new Republics were left in shambles after the collapse. In Russia, people were not ready for the new economic freedom that resulted from the fall of Communism. Their unpreparedness led to inflation. Inflation caused prices to go up three hundred percent in the first month, and 2,591 percent by the end of 1992. ( Russian Economy in the Aftermath of the Collapse of the Soviet Union) Just three years after the Soviet Union s fall, Russia s inflation rate had skyrocketed to 2591 percent, evidencing that Russians were not prepared for such a rapid evolution, going from a communist economy into a capitalist economy. All post Soviet countries had the same economic fate as Russia, plunging into worse economic conditions than the United States suffered during its Great Depression. For example, in 1992, the Ukraine had almost a fifteen percent drop in its gross domestic production and Latvia suffered a 33 percent drop. (GDP growth) Many of these countries economies are still suffering as a result of the rapid evolution

Genie revolves around a young girl, Genie , who has suffered traumatic abuse and neglect as a young child. When she is discovered because her mothertook her to an appointment at a local DHS office, the scientific community over reacts to the potential information they may discover about the human psyche. Genie unfortunately had no one besides her mother to care for her, but she is living proof and an inspiration that child abuse is wrong. The author tells us about the rehabilitation and the results of the many psychologists who came to visit her. She showed little beyond this, and Kent reported in a 1972 symposium paper that apart from the peculiar laugh, frustration was the only other clear affective behavior we could discern (pg. 41). Even though Genie is unable to speak more than three words, she can still portray certain feelings according to this quote.During the story, Genie was strapped to a baby potty seat for a long time. She is barely fed and rarely cared for. This journey describes her terrible experience in living with a man who lost his mother and is now distraught. The Irish Potato Famine Research Paper: Irish Potato Famine Beginning in 1845 and lasting for six years, the potato famine killed over a million men, women and children in Ireland and caused another million to flee the country (The History Place Introduction). During the 1840s many Irish citizens lived in poverty. For food, the Irish relied almost entirely on potatoes because of their low cost and nutritional value. Then a devastating potato blight began in Europe in 1845 and destroyed the crops every year until 1851. Due to Ireland s poor government the citizens we not able to recover from the famine quickly. Before the famine in the mid 1800s, many English politicians and social reformers began to think that Ireland was a nation in need of transformation, that it s people now needed to be yanked into the modern world by tossing out the old Gaelic traditions (The History Place Before the Famine). The English reformers wanted to end Ireland s cycle of poverty and misfortune because in the 1800s poverty was thought to be caused by bad moral character (The History Place Before the Famine). The English politicians and social reformers also wanted to change the laid back lifestyle of the Irish peasants. They professed the virtues of hard work, thrift and self reliance and regarded the Irish as totally lacking in these qualities, a point of view also shared by many British officials and politicians (The History Place Before the Famine). Ireland s population doubled to over 8 million
  • 18. Meaning Of Happiness There s no question that everyone wants to be happy within their lives. The only source of disagreement lies within how one achieves happiness and what happiness really means. The authors within the book Pursuing Happiness have their own meanings of happiness and what it takes to achieve happiness. Topics such as: what happiness is, what brings happiness, what role does money play in happiness, etc. In this first discussion, we see what the some of the authors have to say about the meaning of happiness. Someone such as his Holinessthe Dalai Lamawould argue that happiness is having peace and satisfaction within one s mind. As a tibetan monk, he believe that happiness occurs within the self (Dalai Lama and Cutler 23). In contrast, Thomas Jeffersonwould explain that happiness is actually the opportunity to freely choose one s path within life. Freedom, in eyes, would be the embodiment of freedom (Declaration of Independence). In would also argue that happiness stems from the feeling of self worth, that you have a place within this world. As we see here, the true meaning of happiness all depends on the person. There is no right or wrong answer because we each perceive happiness in a different manner. This is important because it also means that there are different opinions in which someone can achieve happiness. When it comes to achieving happiness, there are two things to consider; physical and spiritual. Some people believe that happiness can come from material

Oskar Schindler s Death Of The Jewish Ghetto Many words can be used to describe Oskar Schindler; partier, alcoholic, womanizer, etc, but the most unlikely word that can be used is savior, which he proved to be in the 1940s. Schindler was definitely a sinner, but he did the unthinkable at the time, He [Schindler] was no saint. And yet, the same man would prove to have depths of courage and humanity rare at any time even rarer during the time in which he lived. (Roberts, pg. 6). During the grueling years of the Holocaustand World War II, Oskar Schindlerproved that love and kindness still existed by rescuing over 1,000 Jewish residents of Krakow, Poland. By doing this alone, the Nazis would have killed him because at that time, it was even illegal to be touching a Jew, let alone saving them. One major factor that led to the saving of the Jews was the liquidation of the Krakow Jewish Ghetto, Schindler witnessed a few hours of beastiality with which the liquidation [of Krakow] was executed. The horror of what he saw undoubtedly played a role in his indignation and his unfailing and compassion with the persecuted [Jews]. (Thompson. pg. 138). After the invasion of Poland, the Nazis set up several ghettos around the country, one of which was in Krakow, where they held Jews. Eventually these ghettos didn t seem worthy of Adolph Hitler s Final Solution so these ghettos were liquidated and thousands of it s residents were massacred and sent to concentration camps, Schindler experienced one of these liquidations. Ltcc Based High Voltage 3 D Power Module LTCC Interposer Based High Voltage 3 D Power Module Atanu Dutta, Simon Ang, and Zhong Chen Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, AR, USA Abstract In this paper, a low temperature co fired ceramic (LTCC) interposer based high voltage (13 kV) half bridge power module is proposed. The proposed power module utilized multi layer LTCC interposers to perform 3 D stack, which provides series connection between devices to achieve high voltage rating of the power module. The proposed 3 D stack can be implemented through wafer level packaging using silicon (Si) and silicon carbide (SiC) devices where paralleling of multiple devices is required to achieve high current. In the proposed high voltage package design, through hole vias are implemented to form electrical connections between multi layer self aligned LTCC interposers. The LTCC interposers also provide excellent high voltage breakdown insulation for the proposed package design. The package exhibits lower parasitic inductance compared to the traditional wire bonded counterpart. In this paper, the feasibility of the proposed power module design was simulated. Index Terms High voltage power module, wafer level packaging, 3 D power module, wire bondless power module I.INTRODUCTION High power modules require multiple power semiconductor devices to be connected in series and parallel to achieve both high voltage and current rating. Although children born with Porgeria tend to look healthy, they begin to display many characteristics of fast tracked aging around 18 24 months. These children develop growth failure, a loss of body fat and hair, aged looking skins, stiffness of joints, cardiovascular disease and strokes. Children with Progeria die of atherosclerosis (heart disease) at an average age of thirteen years (with a range of about 8 21 years). Progeria is a tremendously uncommon genetic disorder with atrocious symptoms, much research, but no cure. Progeria comes from the Greek word progeros meaning prematurely old (Gordon 66). Progeria also known as Hutchinson Gilford Progeria Syndrome, is an extremely rare and fatal genetic disorder that assists in accelerated aging. Symptoms of old age start manifesting in new born babies affected with this condition. These children age around six times faster than normal human beings, therefore resulting in an incomplete shortened life. The average age of death for progeria patients is thirteen, but in reality their body functions as if they were eighty (Gilford). The condition was discovered independently by two scientists, Jonathan Hutchinson in 1886 and Hastings Gilford in 1897(Online). The other name for progeria, Hutchinson Gilford Progeria syndrome (HGPS), honors these two. These two men brought the mysterious disease to light for further investigation. Progeria is extremely unusual. Since first recorded in 1886 there have been 140 cases worldwide (RamГrez 22). That means the condition is estimated to affect 1 in 4 million newborns. Presently, there are 80 children in 34 countries that have known cases of progeria (RamГrez 22).

Marine Corps History Essay Marine Corps History On November 10, 1775, the Continental Congress passed a resolution stating that two battalions of Marines be raised for service as landing forces with the fleet. This established the Continental Marines and marked the birth of the United States Marine Corps. Serving on land and at sea, early Marines distinguished themselves in a number of important operations, including their first amphibious raid on foreign soil in the Bahamas in March 1776, under the command of the Corps first commandant, Capt. At the outbreak of the Korean War, no Marine unit of any size was based or deployed in the Far East. The Corps supporting establishment was so small and its tasks for maintaining Marine Corps bases so extensive that many FMF troops spent more time housekeeping than training. The Marine Corps share of the federal budget was simply not enough to buy adequate manpower, training, or new equipment. The main threat to the nation was seen in inflation and unbalanced budgets rather than in the Soviet armed forces. On the eve of the Korean War, the FMF seemed doomed to fall to six battalion landing teams and twelve squadrons in 1950. While Marine units were taking part in the post war occupation of Japan and North China, studies at Quantico, Va., concentrated on attaining a vertical envelopment capability for the Corps through the use of helicopters. Landing at Inchon, Korea, in September 1950, Marines proved that the doctrine of amphibious assault was still viable and necessary. After the recapture of Seoul, the Marines advanced to the Chosin Reservoir only to see the Chinese Communists enter the war. The adoption of the Senecan and Aristotelian tragedy conventions and use of theatre as the lens to view the Elizabethan Machiavellian Zeitgeist has contributed to the textual integrity of Hamlet. Altogether, Shakespeare s exploration of the ubiquitous aspects of the human condition permeates through contextual barriers, hence contributing to Hamlet s canonical status. Through the corruption that lies at the core of humanity, Shakespeare explores the ontological battle for moral justice. Immediately, the question Who s there? in the exposition develops an angst ambience, foreshadowing a Denmark wrought with corruption. This foreboding sense of corruption is further implored by the supernatural connotation of Hamlet s Father s apparition and natural imagery Tis an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The juxtaposition between Claudius public and private persona is captured by the paradoxical phrase with mirth in funeral and with dirge in marriage . Claudius employs the aid of anaphora and sycophantic language to conceal and embellish his true persona. Similarly, Gertrude s prompt remarriage paints those in positions of power as deceptive. This disease is covered under IDEA, and falls under the category of Other Health Impairments, which is defined as a medical condition that results in limited strength, vitality, or alertness due to chronic or acute health problems that affect a child s educational performance or ability. There are many examples of Other Health Impairments, such as Diabetes, Tourette syndrome, asthma and heart conditions, but childhood Canceris a common disease that affect many children in the world (Special Education Guide, 2016). Cancer begins when normal cells change, and begin to grow abnormally and uncontrollably. These cells divide rapidly and destroy surrounding body tissue. In many cases, the cells join together, forming a solid mass called a tumor. Tumors can grow, invade nearby tissue, or break apart, allowing cancerous cells to travel to different parts of the body. Childhood cancer begins with the same process, but can behave differently than adult cancers, even if they begin in the same part of the body. Cancer in children can occur anywhere in the body, including the blood and lymph node system, the brain and other parts of the central nervous system, and the kidneys. The most common form of childhood cancer is Leukemia, which is the cancer of the bone marrow and blood (Cancer.net, 2014). Cancer is caused by changes in the genes that control the

As the foundation of scientific knowledge approached the start of the twentieth century, problems began to arise over the fact that classic physical ideas were not capable of explaining the observed behavior of subatomic particles. In 1913, the Danish physicist Neils Bohr, proposed a successful quantum model of the atom that began the process of a more defined understanding of its subatomic particles. It was accepted in the early part of the twentieth century that light traveled as both waves and particles. The reason light appears to act as a wave and particle is because we are noticing the ... We have the illusion that position and momentum can co exist in large objects whose inherent action is huge compared to subatomic particles. Heisenberg realized that the uncertainty relations had profound implications. Heisenberg set himself to the task of finding the new quantum mechanics to explain what his theories observed. He relied on what can be observed, namely the light emitted and absorbed by the atoms. By July 1925, Heisenberg wrote his answer in a paper. The basic idea of Heisenberg s paper was to get rid of the orbits in atoms and to arrive at new mechanical equations. Heisenberg s approached focused mainly on the particle nature of electrons. The mathematics Heisenberg used were tables commonly used for multiplication of arrays of numbers mathematical objects known as matrices. Using the mathematics of matrices, scientists had at last a new mechanics for calculating the quantum behavior of particles. Heisenberg, and others showed that the new quantum mechanics could account for many of the properties of atoms and atomic events. Most physicists were slow to accept matrix mechanics because of its abstract nature. Erwin Schrodinger came up with a mathematical equation which nicely described the wave nature of electrons. After Luzon, the largest island of the Philippines, was captured by the Japanese in 1942, General MacArthur believed that it was extremely important to recapture it. This took some time, but in 1944, a new campaign to recapture the Philippines was created. The campaign started with attacks on Leyte and Mindoro, which prepared for Luzon. While the Sixth Army landed more troops on the beach, the I Corps protected them and advanced eastward, and the XIV Corps moved south toward Manila. Because of central Luzon s geographical features mostly open plains the XIV Corps was able to quickly advance toward Manila. Around this time, another amphibious landing of the Eighth Army occurred to the south of Manila. From there, the 11th Airborne Division also advanced on Manila. While the XIV Corps was advancing southward, the I Corps switched to defending their left flank. Meanwhile, General Yamashita had his strongest forces deployed in north Luzon and around the Clark Air Base. However, the Japanese were disorganized because of lack of communications and were not prepared for many US attacks. On their southward journey, when the XIV Corps reached Clark Air Base, they battled for control until it was captured on January 29, which also gave the US more supplies found within the base. Following this, the XIV Corps pushed towards Manila and started the attack on January 31 from the north and south of the city. On February 4th the 11th Airborne Division advanced into the city, but met strong Japanese defences. They pushed through and finished capturing the defences on February 11th, and

However, R. Edward Freeman proposes that the needs of all a business s stakeholders must be balanced when acting. I support Freeman s view because the environment has changed since the time of Friedman. Milton Friedman believes the idea of businesses having some sort of responsibility to society is a baseless notion, and describes discussions encouraging it as lacking meaningful analysis or precision. What does it mean to say that business has responsibilities? Only people can have responsibilities (Friedman, p.218)1. Corporations are led by executives which are chosen by the owners ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Maintaining an archaic business model would be foolish. Friedman argues that an executive should not take profits away from the company to donate to the poor due to his own responsibilities. He then uses this to state that business should never perform any sort of act benevolent to society if it would not further the pursuit of profits. Unfortunately for Freidman s point of view, the blind pursuit of profits is more often viewed as wicked and immoral (Friedman, p.222). Government regulation is much more prevalent. Focusing on profits in today s market would soon lead your business on a sharp decline. Moving from solely focusing on the duty to stockholders, Freeman suggests treating all stakeholders of a business as more than a means to an end (Freeman, p.233). This can also benefit the stockholders, as by focusing solely on increasing profits, firms can often incur the wrath of government, forcing their hand, much like with the separation of AT T into eight separate companies (Freeman, p.234). Stockholders are the primary beneficiary of corporation, and their money should not be spent frivolously, but it would be difficult to turn a profit if your suppliers, employees and customers all desert you. Each group of stakeholders has their own desires, which must be weighed and considered, for should one leg of business fall, the entire firm will come tumbling to the ground. The view that profit is the only responsibility for corporations is outdated. Friedman s argument may have been valid in the past, but no longer applies. Regulation and law have increased the influence of other stakeholders. To ignore that fact would be corporate

Reaching the heights of success is a culmination of efforts, continuous search for excellence through learning, discipline, and persistence. While academic excellence is an important component of success, particularly regarding acquiring relevant knowledge and skill, it is also important to realize that education alone does not guarantee success. Moving from being an information management officer to become the CEO of a top systems management company in the country cannot be attributed solely to strong G.P.A., a bachelor degree, or my MBA. While most of what they recommend may be appropriate for different situations, I believe that the beginning of any success is built on a strong desire to excel that leads a person to invest time and resources in a career (Hill, 2001). When the strong desire for success develops to passion, it makes you seek the necessary knowledge and skills to pursue particular goals. Many times, works of literature reflected these issues that were in society and politics; the issues were usually highlighted to show the results of such a complicated and extensive ideology. One such author that elaborated on this system was Aphra Behn, who wrote Oroonokoin 1688. This was a significant point in time because of how many shifts the 17th century brought to Europe. Not only were there advances in sciences which, in turn, clashed with Christian doctrines that were in place, discoveries of the New World caused various countries to practice new isms. As imperialism and colonialism began to make its mark upon the world, especially in Europe, so did racismand the problems that came with it. Slavery, which would later become tied to racism, had already been a part of society as early as the ancient civilizations. However, people did not feel that slavery was a debatable issue, and it wasn t until later that people began to speak against it. Consequently, writers often used literature as a driving force for either contextualizing or negating such ideas, and Aphra Behn s Oroonoko can be used as an example of this style. The complex story Oroonoko places its focus on the character of a black slave, which is ironic on several different levels. Not only was Aphra Behn a white woman of Great Britain, she served as a spy for Charles II at a time in

Even though Paganini trusted Berlioz to write suitable music for his new instrument, his disappointment about a sketch in one of the movements led to ill fated conclusion. Unluckily, due to incompetent conductor, plentiful wrong notes and missed entries by the orchestra, the premiere was unsatisfactory for Berlioz who later commented it was the sheer murder . According to https://www.britannica.com/topic/Harold in Italy Op 16, Barlioz stated, My idea was to write a series of scenes for the orchestra in which the solo viola would be involved as a more or less active character, always retaining its own individuality. By placing the viola in the midst of poetic recollections of my wanderings in the [Italian] Abruzzi, I wished to make of it a sort of melancholy dreamer after the manner of Byron s Childe Harold. Thus the title: Harold in Italy. Stress in the Emergency Department Stress, Burnout, and Compassion Fatigue in the Emergency Department Background Nursing is a field that many enter with the intention of helping and providing care to those with mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual needs (Lombardo Eyre, 2011). Many consider nursing as their calling; yet have not prepared themselves for the emotional and physical implications that come from having interpersonal relationships with families and patients. As nurses care for the ill, traumatized, and vulnerable patients in their charge, they inadvertently expose themselves to the pain, suffering, and trauma that their patients are experiencing on a regular basis. When the continued stress of this field is not dealt with, one can become a victim of the overwhelming need that surrounds them, which can result in burnout or compassion fatigue. This not only effects ones physical and emotional health, but also results in decreased productivity and job satisfaction, as well as increasing job turnover rate (Lombardo Eyre, 2011; Boyle, 2011).
