Benefits Of Genetically Modified Crops
The topic of GM crops is perhaps one of the most exiting and continually growing aspects of
genetic science. It has an interesting history, many and varied applications, well researched
techniques and its own set of issues ripe for debate; this essay will discuss these aspects.
Genetically modified crops have been a large part of the agricultural landscape for thousands of
years. Ever since wild crops were domesticated by the first farmers domesticated wild varieties of
grains and tubers. Simply by selecting the most hardy and highest yielding wild strains early
farmers began genetic modification. These plants were then selectively bred for thousands of years
so as to further increase their yields and tolerance to damage. In more recent history efforts to
modify the genes of plants using methods other than selective breeding were attempted.
Hermann Muller, in 1926, discovered that dosing organisms with X rays caused lethal genetic
mutations. This technology was proposed to modify organisms in non lethal ways using varying
doses of x rays (Carlson, 1983).
But the biggest and most progressing genetic technology was the invention of recombinant DNA
splicing in the late 1970 s. This technology revolutionised the way in which genetic modification
was thought about, it provided an effective method genetic manipulation and opened the door for
many future advances in genetic science. This advance in technology allowed for the 1987
creation of the first GM crop, a tobacco crop

A Study Of History Coupled With Kuhn s Model For...
Delbruck s application of science to the study of history coupled with Kuhn s model for scientific
revolutions sheds light on the German High Command s inability to adapt its strategy during World
War I. To begin, Kuhn s model addresses how scientists arrive at new knowledge from periodic
revolutions or paradigm shifts. Normal science is research based on achievements where
established rules and standards leave little disagreement among practitioners concerning the
fundamentals. Consequently, problem solving uses a predetermined solution that generally fails to
account for anomalies. Scientists become aware of this, yet they hold on to the existing theory. This
continues until the theory weakens and other possibilities are considered. At a given point, crisis
occurs which might initiate a scientific revolution. Once the revolution occurs, the new paradigm
often requires rewriting texts on the subject area. Comparatively, Delbruck s use of various
scientific methodologies resulted in new ideas offering new explanations concerning historical
events. Delbruck traced the evolution of tactics by checking facts and taking note of anomalies
where he reconstructed battles from the Persian Wars to those of Napoleon. Delbruck then
connected the character and design of the state with the tactics and strategy it employed.
Discovering that warfare differed from one era to the next, his studies overturned many common
interpretations of historical events. With that, Delbruck

An Entrepreneur Franklin s Dream
Entrepreneur Franklin Nicola dreamt of Oakland as a center for culture, art, and education. Franklin

Carnegie, George Westinghouse and H. J. Heinz, Nicola formed the Bellefield Company, which

In fact, Martin Luther King Jr. gave a speech to Pitt students and faculty on November 2, 1966,

riots were self defeating and that while a riot is the voice of the unheard he still has faith in the
future of the civil rights movement (Eskey). Today the university holds similar student events in
the William Pitt Union. For example, earlier this fall the University held a video conference event
for students to hear from former government contractor, Edward Snowden, and popular writer Te
Nehisi Coates addressed students, faculty, and community members just last week in regards to his
work. Mr. Coates was named one of TIME Magazine s 100 Most Influential People in 2016, and it
was a great informational event that many students took the opportunity to attend. However, in
contrast the University has also held some not so prestigious events as well. For me it is baffling to
think that in the same building where presidents stayed, and Martin Luther King Junior gave a
speech, the University showed the overly sexual and disturbing movie Sausage Party , or held a
Residential Life Pillow Fight (which in itself just seems strange to me). While the University does
put on numerous educational events for both the community and students; the William Pitt Union

Darwin s Theory Of Biological Evolution
Evolution refers to the processes that have transformed life on Earth from its earliest forms to the
vast diversity that characterizes it today (Campbell, 1993). However, a lot of things can change
over a period of time. The Father of Evolution who is known as Charles Darwin, developed the
theory of biological evolution. This theory has long been debated during and after darwin s time.
Biological evolution can be seen through a momentous change in organisms by changing of the
genetic composition. Darwin s theory did not only create a topic of controversy, but it was able to
create a way of understanding life through biological evolution.
The traditional Judeo Christian version of Creationism was strongly reinforced by James ... Show

It had a beginning, but it has no ending. Creation is always busy making new scenes, new things
and new Worlds (Weiner 3). In the bible it states that all living things were created at the hands of
God. No one has ever desired to challenge the Catholic Church of this belief. Until a man by the
name of Charles Darwin discovered the wonders on Daphne Major. After his survey of the island,
he concluded that there was something about the finches beaks that made them unique to each of
the islands. Making meticulous observations of the beaks he saw that each finch had a specific set
of beaks. This allowed them to adapt to a specific niche in their environment. What is more. the
tame little birds that Darwin had found hopping around beneath the bushes were unique too. They
were not relatives of blackbirds, walders, wrens, and finches, as Darwin had thought when he
bagged them (Weiner 28). Darwin speculated about how natural selectionis one of the main
concepts for biological evolution. Natural selection consisted of descent with modification, known
as a gradual process over time, heritable biological traits become either more or less common in a
population. When the next generation of that species gains that dominant trait in the population,
this is known as descent with modification. Observing descent with modification is still prominent
during that time period. According to the Variation Lab, natural selection was the driving
mechanism for biological evolution.

Making Use of Essential Oils
When my boy was born in 2006 I was delighted! We had actually currently been actually blessed
with a stunning daughter and I was so enthusiastic when it comes to a child. I didn t know that
each kid not just possesses their own character yet their personal personal immune systems also.
My initial little one was actually often well balanced and lively. As my child started to develop

it comes to the very first three four years of his way of life.
In 2010 I turned into expectant with our third youngster and I experienced morning sickness
unlike my very first a couple of pregnancies. Over times I had ended up being a lot more mindful
of natural choices as well as I was quite untrusting of getting the usual supplements these guys offer
for morning sickness. I got a good friend that had spoken a little approximately essential oils to me.
While they seemed wonderful these guys weren t something I had definitely enjoyed until I was
actually despairing when it comes to an answer. So I contacted her in order to view if there was

The Aging American Population Essay
The Aging American Population The American population has changed dramatically over the last
century. Our society has become effected by this in all areas and walks of life. It is unknown what
the future holds for America, but the statistical trends in an aging populationmay shed some light.
The rate of aging in the United Stateswill increase dramatically in the second and subsequent
decades of the century. Within the United States, the size of the population over age 65 has soared

Though average length of hospital stays has decreased for those over 65, their visits to physicians
are over twice as frequent as those under 65. With increases in age, the intensity of using health
care resources increases: Those over 75, though only 5.5 percent of the total population in 1993,
accounted for 28 percent of all hospital days. At the same time, the caregiver population comprised
of both the elderly and non elderly will be impacted by these changes.
Aging is also an aspect of population dynamics that affects the level of poverty also. As fertility
declines and the population ages, traditional family based systems for providing old age care
may weaken, leaving the elderly vulnerable. The income security of older persons is a policy
concern not only in developed countries but increasingly as well in developing countries such as
China that have passed through the demographic transition. Between 2000 and 2050, the
proportion of the population aged 65 and older will have doubled in most developing regions. This
exponential increase in the aging populous could leave that generation drastically vulnerable. Not
only would the health standard be effected but also the income producing majority. Forecasts show
that policy makers must address the impact of our aging population in the next decade to stay
ahead of the demand on resources required by a population

Ernest Hemingway Apathetic American Stereotypes
Apathetic Americans
Stereotypes have shaped the way people think about the World and everyone around them. They
are undeniably over exaggerated, but are based on a sliver of truth. For example, stereotypical
Americans are seen as rude, stupid, greedy, and very patriotic. In the case of Americans, Donald J.
Trump is the embodiment of the American stereotype. During his presidential campaign, Trump
made many vulgar remarks, and his goal was to make America great again. These American
stereotypes are also apparent in Ernest Hemingway s short stories, most notably in Cat in the Rain,
The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber, and the interchapters of In Our Time. Hemingway s
short stories portray Americans as being insensitive to the World around them. Americans are
insensitive through their insatiable greed, emotional unawareness, and cultural disregard.
Hemingway s Americans continual desire for more alienates them from the rest of society,
proving their lack of understanding for the world. In Cat in the Rain, an American couple is
vacationing in Italy. Instead of admiring the beauty of their surroundings, the Americans instead
focus on irrelevant trivial pursuits, illustrating their greed. After going down to retrieve the cat,
the wife is immediately attracted to the hotel owner, proving Americans ever evolving want for
new things: She liked the way he wanted to serve her. [...] She liked his old, heavy face and big
hands (Hemingway 130). Instead of staying loyal to her husband, the American wife forgets he
exists and moves on to the next best person she finds, showing the apathy Americans possess for
what they already have. Additionally, the hotel owner is simply doing his job, and the American
wife s failure to realize this results from her greed, which severely clouds her judgement. The
greed Americans possess is further proven with the American wife s childish behavior throughout
the story. When the wife cannot find the cat, she complains, I wanted it so much [...] I don t know
why I wanted it so much (130). Back in the hotel room, the wife demands to her husband that she
want[s] to pull [her] hair back, and to have a kitty to sit on [her] lap and purr when [she] stroke[s]
her (131). The

Words For The Unspoken Moments By Joseph Campbell
Words For The Unspoken Moments
Author Joseph Campbell once wrote that life can be split into three things. These things are stuff
that can t be talked about, words that describe these things, and the boring everyday talk we find
ourselves in. However, there have been a series of poems that can help deal with the things that are
hard to talk about. Each poem is different, yet they have one thing in common Love.
Why is love hard to discuss?
You might have heard the say love hurts. However, when it comes down to it, love is the one thing
that doesn t hurt. It is the things surrounding love that hurts. Things like fear, fear of being
rejected, loss, the loss of the person you love, anger, jealousy, all of these are just a few

Huckleberry Finn Superiority
In the generations prior to the Civil War, slavery ran rampant through America, especially in the
South. The vast majority of caucasian people in the South owned some number of African
American slaves and because of this, white superiority flourished. The entire culture of America in
this time was that the white man was better than the black man and the black man deserved the
hard labor because it is all he was really good for. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finnby Mark
Twainis set in this pre war time period, in the South, where the slavery and white supremacy was
felt most prominently. Huck Finn is the young boy, narrator, and protagonist of this novel and was

Biography of Euripides
Chapter 1: Euripides Biography Part 1: Bob Prescott Euripides lived in a very mysterious time.
We know so little about the era in which he lived because of the loss of many ancient
manuscripts at the burning of the Library of Alexandria. Given this massive loss of knowledge
of the pre modern world, it is hard to cobble together a full biography of Euripides. There is,
however quite a lot of information known about him. This is known due to the fact that Euripides
is a character in some of Aristophanes and the other comic poet s comedies. The largest
comprehensive collection of information on the playwright, however, is from a biography called
The Life of Euripides by Satyrus of Callatis (Lefkowitz 87). The play that we have chosen to...

Or perhaps, he, like many writers, preferred to write in solitude. Throughout his life, Euripides
married twice and had three sons. His wives were Melito and Choirile and his sons were named
Mnesarchides, Mnesilochus, and Euripides. Two of his sons, Mnesilochus and Euripides,
followed in their father s footsteps and became an actor and producer, respectively (Satyrus
153). Satyrus mentions in his Vita that Euripides first wife was unfaithful, to which Lefkowitz
adds that she slept with their slave, Cephisophon (Lefkowitz 97). Satyrus explains that after
discovering that she had committed adultery, he penned Hippolytus, in which he exposes
women s immorality. (154) After remarrying, Euripides discovered that his second wife was also
unfaithful. This was said to make him even more eager to slander women. (Satyrus 154)
Speculation of how Euripides works were perceived when they were new is a difficult concept.
Given how male dominated society was at the time, a safe assumption is that Hippolytus was
well accepted, as were many of his other works. Medea, as another example, was probably well
accepted by Greeks because of its superficial display of women and foreigners. Today, the play is
known to be an interesting analysis of a complex character oppressed by society, but in ancient
times, it is uncertain whether the theatre patrons would have seen past the surface. At some point in

The Themes Of Totalitarian Government In Ayn Rand s Anthem
Ayn Rand s Anthem is a dystopian novella, which means it addresses the dehumanization of
mankind usually by some kind of totalitarian government. That is true for this work as can be
seen by the following evidences; every character is nameless and is known only by a number
(the protagonist is Equality 7 2521, for example), no one is allowed to be distinguished from
anyone else (all men are brothers without any distinctions or divisions), all decisions are made for
the common man by Scholars and Councils (including each person s profession), thinking,
dreaming, and creating are strictly forbidden (and punishable crimes if they are discovered), being
alone is the greatest crime/sin (as that wrongly distinguishes one man from his brothers), work is
the greatest good (so anything that eases men s labor is a crime), and independent thinking is not
allowed (the only good is the collective good.) The theme of this work is relatively simple and has
two parts. When the individualI is absorbed into the collective we , men degenerate into mindless,
uncreative, and uninspired automatons who do nothing but live to work and die young and
exhausted. However, the spirit of freedom and individuality lives on even in such a world, and a
rare man will survive the oppression of the collective to create, think, dream, and love.
It is a sin to write this. It is a sin to think words no others think and to put them down upon a paper
no others are to see. It is base and evil. It is as if we

George Orwell s Animal Farm Essay
Karl Marx, writer of Communist Manifesto, is represented as an old, wise pig in George Orwell s
Animal Farm. Because Orwell is a democratic socialist and does not accept the ideologies of
Marxism, he reveals the reality of communism and reflects his opinions through sardonic situations
that occur among animals. The state of communismthat Marx and Friedrich Engelsdescribe is where
the state is abolished, people live in a society where members work together in agreement and no
one is exploited, and every member shares the rewards of hard work. The envisions of Marx
greatly contrasted with the plot of Animal Farm. Old Major, a pig, had a dream that mirrored
Marx and his dream of communism. This dream is ironic because it suggests that communism is
only a dream. The Soviet Union s policies were seen as steps to reach communism, rather than the
end result of communism, in which all animals of the farm endured. The characters in animal farm
had to pass through this in between stage before becoming a complete communist society, and in
reality they remained in this stage and believed they were close to their goal.
The animals, who were the laborers, fulfilled Old Major s wish and overthrew the capitalistic men
with a revolution, much like how Marx and Engels hoped for the day the Proletarians would
overthrow the Bourgeois, the owners of private property. He focused on arousing the animals
emotionally and didn t mention any practical reasons to help solve their issues. However,

No Country for Old Men is a crime based thriller based in the deep southern states of America.
The opening sequence of this film uses a variety of film making techniques such as
cinematography, mise en scene, editing and sound to create tension and threat, and in this essay I
will be picking out key bits which specifically do that.
The use of mise en scene throughout the opening scene creates tension and threat with the use of
setting.
The opening of this scene shows an isolated setting, were the audience are shown a large open,
sandy, desert like field, suggesting whoever is out there is very
lonely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This shows how sound and narration are very important in the making of thrillers as they play a
big part and give us and insight of what happens or what could happen in the rest of the film,
creating tension as it leaves the audience on a
cliff hanger of sort.
The use of Editing throughout the clip is purposely limited throughout out the whole clip, giving
the thriller and the audience a more realistic view on the film. On aspect of Editing used to create
realisations is fades. The credits throughout the beginning of the clip slowly fade away suggesting
threat and tension is slowly built up throughout the rest of the clip. This show how editing is also
key in the making of thrillers and really does need to be considered in order to create tension and
threat in thrillers. Another example of editing used throughout the clip creating tension and threat is
the use straight cuts. The use of straight cuts used in the opening of this clip, tightens the realism
and making it seem that violence is out of place in this

Investigating The Coefficient Of Thermal Conductivity For...
Lab Report
Module Name: Mechanical Principles (ENGD1005)
Experiment Name: Thermal Conductivity
Student P number: P14177341
Lab Tutor : Dr Rick Greenough
Date: 26/11/2014
Objectives of the experiment:
The objective of the experiment was to measure and determine the coefficient of thermal
conductivity for copper and stainless steel.
Background:
Thermal conduction is the transfer of heat energy in a material due to the temperature gradient. It
always takes place from a region of high temperature to a region of low temperature. Heat transfers
at a higher rate across materials that have high thermal conductivity than across materials with low
thermal conductivity. Thermal conductivity is temperature dependant.
Apparatus:
Thermocouple potentiometer
Cussons thermal conductivity apparatus.
Measuring beaker
Procedure:
Firstly before the experiment begins ensure the apparatus has been set up correctly, i.e checking if
all dials are in their correct position. After the apparatus has been set up, what should be done is the
temperatures of the cold water in and hot water out should be noted down, this is done by reading
the temperature gauges on the cussons thermal conductivity apparatus . After temperature of cold
water in and hot water out has been noted you can move onto using the Thermocouple
potentiometer to find the temperature of the water as it is heated through the metals and out of the
metals. This can be done by putting the

Identification and Evaluation of Sources
This investigation analyzes the impact that Porfirio Diaz s administration had on public interest and
particularly that of the primary education system. Through Diaz s foreign expeditions and through
his involvement in governmental action, the depiction and characteristics of the primary education
system were reformed. The question that derives from this development is:
How was the Porfiriato (1876 1910) a turning point in the Mexican system of primary education?
The two sources in which the investigation bases most of its findings come from an investigation
done by Educar Fuera del Aula: Los Paseos Escolares Durante el Porfiriato (Educating Outside of

However, Diaz had an aristocratic ideology that was not well perceived by the majority of the
nation and this feeling grew more and more throughout the time of his administration. Diaz
favored the elite and foreign investors, which was also unwelcomed by public perspective.
Nevertheless there were developments within different realms. Whether those were positive or
negative developments, it is a relative matter. Diaz was especially fascinated by Europe and was
fascinated by the culture there. Vicente Riva Palacio embodies this fascination in his novel titled,
Cuentos del General, which made readers ponder about the life in Europe. This novel is an
example of many that emerged during this era and gives a glimpse into perspectives on Europe
from the eyes of different inhabitants of Latin America. On his excursions, Diaz discovered many
different techniques that he desired to introduce to the Mexican nation. Diaz s influence over
education originated from his struggle to gaining public favorability. As a result, Diaz decided that
the nation s method of teaching history should favor his and attribute to an increase of loyalty from
the Mexican public (Gutierezz). Diaz s influence over history education branched out to other

Discuss How Veronica Is Portrayed and to What Extent the...
Veronica is a young but unique character who is carefully crafted in this story by Adewale Maja
Pearce who evokes emotions of sympathy towards her in a distinctive way; Veronica is not a
woman who fits in with the stereotypical idea of a woman from the village, she does not seem to
care that there is no hope for a better life or the future. This is perhaps the main reason why we as
readers feel more sympathy towards Veronica as opposed to Mathilde in The Necklace; her almost
inhuman ability to simply accept everything that is thrown at her. Mathilde is directly opposite to
Veronica in the way that she behaves: Veronica accepts her unlucky situations and Mathilde
complains and makes her life worse.

The writer creates an overwhelming sense of shock in Okeke as he discovers the squalor of the
village. The place was crawling with disease and everybody was living surviving rather in acute
poverty . The use of the metaphor, crawling with disease provides an image of bacteria literally
crawling and creeping through the village infecting people, resulting in sympathy from the reader.
The use of the subordinate clause puts an emphasis on and further describes the state in which
people were barely living in. Maja Pearce creates sympathy for Veronica by describing the
surroundings that Veronica had to endure to survive. People like us, living in Africa can relate to
these conditions because Malawi is a poor country and we understand the way these people have to
live.
Veronica is depicted as a womanwho accepts any situation, downfall or calamity that comes her
way. She speaks without bitterness at the things she does not have. They are my family, that is
enough even after her family treated her badly and left her. Veronica exceeds all stereotypes of
selfless people. Instead of being ashamed or unhappy with her situation like Mathilde, she
embraces her fate. Speaking without bitterness implies that Veronica is not affected by what
people do or say to her creating sympathy for her. The reader also feels respectful towards Veronica
as she keeps her dignity throughout the whole story and her life.

Imposing Congressional term limits for the members of the congress would be a terrific idea.
This is because if the Congress knows that their position in Congress is limited, they will get

more than 12 years as a member of congress. 12 years is enough for Congress to pass new laws.
Now if the propose law has not been approved by the other members of the Congress by the time
their term is over, then the next person that steps up can continue to pursue the law. No members
should stay longer than they are supposed to. The term limit is necessary because there are other

Blind In Araby
In the short story Araby , James Joyce describes the North Richmond Street being blind . The
word blind dictionary meaning is sightless, or unable to see. The street being blind means the
street seems like nobody lives there and quiet. The word blind conveys the readers to image the
neighborhood as somber, uninhabited houses. He also describes the people who live in the street

Ideology of Fundamentalist Islam Explained Essay
Introduction:
This essay concerns itself with exploring the Islamic and political orientation of Sayyid Qutb (1906
1966), an Egyptian civil servant turned political and religious activist, inspired by fundamentalist
Islam. To gain an understanding of what influenced and formulated Qutb s ideas it has been
necessary to provide some background information relating the history of modern day Egypt and
the emergence of reformist and fundamentalist Islam, from the 19th century until Qutb s time. The
essay also seeks to give some biographical information in order to provide a fuller picture of Qutb
the man.
Qutb s involvement with Egyptian religious politics caused him to come into conflict with the

The latter is the focus of this essay, however he cannot be discussed without some understanding
of the historical and political background to the tensions which are now evident between some
aspects of Islamic and Western thought. Yet the designation fundamentalist also deserves brief
consideration. For the purpose of this essay the term refers to Muslims who believe it is
necessary to return to the fundamentals of Islamic belief in order to express true Islam, this
necessitates a narrow interpretation of Qur anic texts and tradition. The term is problematic in
that it is drawn into the conflicting territory of description and taxonomy, especially when, as is
often the case, fundamentalism blurs the division between religion and politics. Is
fundamentalism religion in the service of political ideology or ideology veiled as religion?
(Moussalli (ed) 1998: 1, 27 28). A detailed discussion of these issues is not possible here, however
discussing the political and religious views of Sayyid Qutb may be of assistance in discerning the
political and religious dimensions of fundamentalism.
Islam, during its early years, was a dynamic force engendering rapid social change in the Arabian
peninsula and its environs during the 6th and 7th centuries, therefore its

Analysis Of The Fountain Of Vaucluse
On September 26, 2017 I visited the Dallas Museum of Art where I saw The Fountain of Vaucluse
by Thomas Cole. The oil on canvas painting, displays a rocky landscape which captures the beauty
of nature and civilization while also provoking thought in the viewer. An individual s nature to hope
for something better than the current discomfort he or she is experiencing is portrayed through
Cole s use of colorand environmental contrast in this piece. The work is very smooth and fluid
making it appear much like a photograph. The oil is not built up on top of itself keeping it very
two dimensional. The colors vary between dark and lightthroughout the painting. In the top right
corner, the sun, outside the painting, shining down, aluminates the castle and also the lone tree at
the bottom left corner. Besides the back cliff, the rest of the painting is in shadow and displayed
in a much more melancholy tone. The colors that Cole focuses on, to display the sharp contrast
between rock and nature, are mostly dark greens and gold. The striking blue of the river stands out
dramatically from the rest of the colors and draws the eyeafter the initial citing. The grey in the
cloud is the only place where I can find that shade of gray in the work, and it sets itself apart from
the snow white clouds in the background. The color helps draw the eye immediately to the castle
on the hill. My eyes then fallow the flow of the river down to the tree, which is illuminated by a
beam of sunlight.

Access Controls And Access Control
This chapter is basically based on access control in regards to computer information security. Access
control is seen as the fundamental mechanism put in place to help make information security
successful. Access control feature, in a particular system, will control how users can communicate,
access and modify system resources and programs. Access controlwas described in this chapter as a
very useful tool for the computer information security because it helps with ensuring that
unauthorized person or program have no access to what they are not supposed to. Access control is
regarded as the first line of defense to control, protect and monitor organization s resource s
availability, confidentiality and integrity.
Furthermore, this chapter illustrates how users can be granted access to network resources. It
explained that for a user to be allowed access to a network he must satisfy the condition of
identification and authentication. The identification part could be something of user ID, name or
account number. The identification key is not enough to grant access, but it s simply a way of
introducing yourself by saying who you are. Then, at that point the system will request for you to
authenticate yourself (confirm who you said you are) by requesting for an authentication key. The
authentication key could be password, passphrase, personal identification number (PIN), or a token.
Once, the authentication is verified and the system found it to be correct, then access will be

Portrayal Of Women In The 1950s
How woman started in TV
Women stereotypes through the decades The idea of television began since the 1820s but it was
until 1927 when the 21 year old Philo T. Farnsworth produce the first electronic television picture.
Experimental broadcast began, featuring music, wrestling, and dance; however, it was until the
1950s that TV really became the new form of mass entertainment. Nevertheless, in all the shows
that were produced women was denigrated and producers focused mainly on their physical
appearance and not their intellect capacity. Ward and Harrison stated, TV has depicted females by
focusing on their physical characteristics, sexual appeal, and romantic success, whether they are
housewives, mothers, or objects of desire. Women did not have a choice, they were placed on TV
shows with a certain stereotype needed to be fulfilled by them, and because they wanted to work
they did not deny the job, therefore, they encouraged the stereotype.

have been underrepresented and stereotyped in TV programs. Women have been living under that
invisible stereotype that has cornered them and does not allow them to grow professionally or

of demanding equality or credibility on shows, a stereotype that will always be mentioned and

Elements of Communication
The Elements of Communication Communication begins with a message, or information, that must
be sent from one individual or device to another. People exchange ideas using many different
communication methods. All of these methods have three elements in common. The first of these
elements is the message source, or sender. Message sources are people, or electronic devices, that
need to send a message to other individuals or devices. The second element of communication is the
destination, or receiver, of the message. The destination receives the message and interprets it. A
third element, called a channel, consists of the media that provides the pathway over which the
message can travel from source to destination. Consider, for example,... Show more content on

Hardware is often the visible components of the network platform such as a laptop, a PC, a
switch, or the cabling used to connect the devices. Occasionally, some components may not be
so visible. In the case of wireless media, messages are transmitted through the air using invisible
radio frequency or infrared waves. Services and processes are the communication programs,
called software, that run on the networked devices. A network service provides information in
response to a request. Services include many of the common network applications people use
every day, like e mail hosting services and web hosting services. Processes provide the
functionality that directs and moves the messages through the network. Processes are less
obvious to us but are critical to the operation of networks. End Devices and Their Role on the
Network The network devices that people are most familiar with are called end devices. These
devices form the interface between the human network and the underlying communication
network. Some examples of end devices are: * Computers (work stations, laptops, file servers,
web servers) * Network printers * VoIP phones * Security cameras * Mobile handheld devices
(such as wireless barcode scanners, PDAs) In the context of a network, end devices are referred to
as hosts. A host device is either the source or destination of a message transmitted over the network.

Slavery In Colonial America
By the 1630s, about 1.5 million pounds of tobacco was hauled out of Chesapeake Bay (and
almost 40 million towards the 1700s). The Chespeake was hospitable for tobacco cultivation and
it blew up the tobacco economy.Sir William Berkeley became governor of Virginia in 1642. He
didn t like that most of his people were poor, unhappy, and armed, but he didn t help them out of
that either. However, he did have friendly policies towards the Indians to monopolize the fur
trade. In Virginia(1600s 1650s), there was a very short lifespan due to diseases. Many people didn t
live to their 40th birthday, or even their 20th. This made the men compete for the women that they
outnumbered and become one of the few families that existed there.
To have enough cheap labor and maintain the tobacco economy, there were indentured servants.
There were about 100,000 of them by 1700. The servants exchanged working for transatlantic
passage and freedom dues (food, clothes, and land). The headright system was also employed to
encourage importing servant workers. Nathaniel Bacon (a 29 year old planter) gathered about a

The Fashion Of Elie Saab ( Es )
Introduction
In a world which seems to be shrinking continuously due to the emergence of globalization,
individuals seek new ways to differentiate themselves from those in their societies either by music,
art and most of all fashion. Elie Saab(ES), a Lebanese fashion house established in Beirut has
found a way to cater to the many cravings of individuals by creating and selling luxury fashion to
the elites of the world.
Beirut born owner and chairman Elie Saab first picked up an interest in fashion at the tender age
of nine, making dresses for his sisters using his mother s tablecloths as fabric. In 2010, Saab s
workforce had grown from 10 employees in his first workshop in Beirut to about 150 working in
different locations such as Paris and London. ES was well known for its Haute Couture works
which are exclusive, one of a kind evening dresses and wedding gowns.
In a bid to grow the brand, Saab sought to diversify its portfolio by partnering with various ventures
which signified and embodied the luxury lifestyle on which it had built its brand upon. ES signed
partnership contracts with various companies for the construction of luxury Yachts, exclusive
hotels and luxury fragrances. Notwithstanding the company s many partnerships and ventures, ES s
core business was fashion which had been its bread and butter. ES began primarily with Haute
Couture which is a fancy name for specially made garments using high quality materials to suit the

The Role Of The Nephilins In The Bible
The Bible reports the emergence of The Giants as the result of the sexual relationship between
women (daughters of men) and guardian angels (children of God) and from this relationship there
would have been hybrid beings of high stature and perversity never seen on the Face of the earth.
These are the Nephilins, the giants of biblical accounts.
How did they really come about? Who were the children of God? The search for these answers
has always led theologians of various epochs to try to understand this fact and supposed
relationship between angelic beings endowed with purely carnal desires and taken by
voluptuousness, and women descended from a genealogy that abandoned the fear of God, as is the
account found In the book of Jubilees, to give ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

In Remember the Titans we witness Coach Boone fighting for civil rights, signifying the image of
an outsider integrating into a foreign white team as their coach. Director Boaz Yakin, uses
techniques to strengthen Coach Boone s character where the initial hate and disrespect towards him
succours the development of a meaningful arc. The disrespect and aggression is employed when a
brick is thrown through his house window, threatening him with the derogatory coloured comments
calling him Coach Coon . The pressure of quitting was not felt and heroically he encompasses the
journey with Yakin emphasising Boones evocative discipline and determination forcing integration
amongst the segregated football team. This technique is employed when we witness Coach
Boone stepping up, pushing equality for the players in a determined strike to stop racial abuse for
good. His actions initiate the forced building of friendship and acceptance when he forces both
races to get to know and accept each other at the camp. Yakin heightens the themes of overcoming
racism when Boone rallies the troops together to support their team mate during a sad time.
Instinctively, the implicit segregation is evoked further bringing unity to the team, Coach Boone
emerges as a hero to both the coloured and white community. Similarly, The Help s Aibileen,
initially reluctant, puts her life at risk to tell her stories; as she does she builds up her courage,

My Identity Crisis
My identity crisis started when I was about 9 years old. The realization that I was different from
friends, family, and my classmates were scary and hard to bare. As a young child, we are taught
and framed to be a certain way, think a certain way, and live a certain way according to the
family structure. Like most young girls I often fantasized about my wedding. What type of dress
I was going to wear, what colors I would pick and what type of dress my wife would choose. My
fantasies were often disrupted by the sound of my mothers voice instructing me to complete a task,
or letting me know she was home. At that very moment internal shame, and denial would set in.
This is not normal, a wife, why was I thinking about a wife? I don t like girls! I like Josh. That s
who I will marry, Josh. This type of self doubt and shame I would live with for years. What was
wrong with me, who am I, and why was my desires so different from my friends? Growing up I
kept pushing these feelings aside to follow the social norm. Often, I had thought about telling
my best friend, but the fear of being rejected or outed were way too much for a 14 year old to
deal with. I would go along with my friends, laugh about how cute the new boy was, put posters
on my walls of the most popular teen idols, and drool over the cute guy in the mall. Eventually I
would detach myself from a lot of my girlfriends and form friendships with guys. Guys were much

problem needing to be addressed is the number of veteran facilities available to provide treatment

High Spot Is A Substance Administration Stage
HIGH SPOT
High spot is a substance administration stage that lets business clients make entryways, construct
learning bases, execute playbooks, convey preparing, and even track industry news. It handles all
the ways a current association needs to share data. High spot is intended for business clients so no
IT advancement is needed. Furthermore, it uses machine figuring out how to convey incredible list
items, propose related things, find new substance, and for the most part associate individuals to the
most significant data.
Highspot is the business most developed deals enablement stage, helping associations close the

first utilization of machine figuring out how to advertising and deals content.
Highspot was established with the objective of tackling the Sales Enablement issue to make it less
demanding for deals reps to locate the substance they need and make them more powerful in
bringing deals to a close. We realized that a comprehensive arrangement would lay on 3 columns, all
incomprehensibly better than the substance frameworks of yester year; (1) insightful and adaptable
substance administration stage that makes it simple for deals groups to locate the substance they
require, (2) effective and rich pitching and email frameworks that make it simple for salesmen to
connect with clients, and (3) powerful examination that empower deals and showcasing to gauge
what is working and to streamline execution. While every one of these columns speak to
incomprehensible changes over past arrangements, examination is the foundation that brings the
circle between deals to a close and showcasing and gives the information to deliberately enhance
deals viability. Just through precise execution investigation can an association learn, enhance and
upgrade.
We immediately acknowledged, be that as it may, that there was a gap in the embankment. The
greater part of substance that a business groups utilizes deals presentations, in particular are

Statement Of Purpose To Become A Member Of The National...
The National Honor Society is an excellent program, so I believe that becoming a member could
create a symbiotic relationship. Being a member of the National Honor Society could encourage my
academic achievement and give me opportunities to teach, which in turn will fine tune my
understanding on the subjectas well. I have multiple experiences with tutoring, as I am currently
tutoring three kids and used to tutoran international student in English. I believe firmly in
helping others through tutoring; I love teaching to instill curiosity and ambition in the minds of
others. Community service and tutoring are a win win outcome in my opinion since the student
starts to comprehend the subject that they are struggling in while the tutor builds mastery of the
subject, feels a sense of accomplishment, and genuinely feels better for doing the right thing. In
terms of character, I grew up with exceptionally supportive parents and an icon of a sister. My
parents want the best for me, so they don t hesitate to be strict in order to give me the character of
a fine young lady. I will always be indebted to my parents because they sacrificed so much for me.
Looking back on all the hardships they ve placed me through, I ve definitely grown as a person,

Essay about Reviving Psychophysical Supervenience
Reviving Psychophysical Supervenience
ABSTRACT: Many philosophers have lost their enthusiasm for the concept of supervenience in the
philosophy of mind. This is largely due to the fact that, as Jaegwon Kim has shown, familiar
versions of supervenience describe relations of mere property covariation without capturing the idea
of dependence. Since the dependence of the mental on the physical is a necessary requirement for
even the weakest version of physicalism, it would seem that existing forms of supervenience cannot
achieve that for which they were designed. My aim is to revive the concept of supervenience. I
argue that if we construe supervenience along Davidsonian lines as a relation connecting predicates
rather than properties ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In light of this, many have lost their enthusiasm for this idea.
My goal in this paper is to renew our faith in supervenience. To do so, however, will not require
the development of a new formulation of the concept; instead, it involves clearing up some
misconceptions about an existing version of this relation. I refer to Davidson s original treatment
of supervenience. Most have assumed that Davidson s brand of supervenience is equivalent to
Kim s weak supervenience, which is too weak to express dependence. I will argue that Davidson s
conception of supervenience is, despite certain formal similarities, quite different from Kim s and
clearly captures a sense of psychophysical dependence that is of use to forms of physicalism.
As I see it, the difference between Kim s approach and Davidson s lies in the items supervenience
is thought to connect. Kim s formulations of supervenience connect properties, which he takes to
be the ontological building blocks of events. In general then, Kim treats supervenience as a
metaphysical thesis about the distribution of properties in possible worlds. By contrast, Davidson
has little tolerance for the idea that events should be analyzed in terms of property
exemplifications. Given Davidson s reluctance to endorse properties, he prefers to think of
supervenience as a relation between

An Information Security Engineer For A Video Game...
An Information Security Engineer for a video game development company has many things to be
concerned about. A few items of concern are compromised game servers, DDoS, and Threat Group
3279 (TG 3279). For each of these malicious attacks and threats there is a strategy for addressing
the risk. In addition there are also potential controls that the company could use to mitigate each
risk. Risk management, control identification, and selection processes are important. The best
strategy for malicious attacks and threats is determined by the risk. For a compromised game

Attacks from a threat group like TG 3279 can be devastating for a company, small companies
would not be able to recover. Due to the negative potential outcome of this threat, risk avoidance
would be the best strategy. Keeping everything updated will only get you so far. It would be wise
to have an inside hacker who can help find any weaknesses in your security so you can make
patches or reinforce the weakness. This can help the company stay one step ahead of any threat
groups. Along with understanding the best strategy for a risk, it is also good to understand the
potential controls needed to mitigate each risk. Preventative controls are needed for a
compromised game server. This is mitigation control would work for this threat because it is a
preventable problem. To reduce the risk of a DDoS attack, administrative controls would be a
good approach. The chances of this attack happening would be lessened if permissions to data
and servers were controlled (State University of New York, 2015). It is best to ensure no one
person has access to everything. For a threat such as TG 3279, it is best to use a detective control.
A company would want to detect a potential problem in the early stages before any damage can be
done. Risk management, control identification, and selection processes are important, specifically
in this organization. It is naГЇve of a

Differences Of Hinduism And Hinduism
Hinduism is one big family of beliefs that unites the worship of many gods with a belief in a
single divine reality. Hinduism does not have an identifiable founder nor a structure in place to
defend it and spread its guidance, or a creed to steady its beliefs. At first many of its teachings and
scriptures were passed down orally but eventually, were written down for all to cherish. In
Christianity we find that Jesus is the originator of this religion, and is purely a missionary religion.
Traveling and branching out to as many people as possible to spread the teachings of Jesus Christ.
Also, in similar sense there are many denominations within the religion that have different teachings
but all usually lead to the same result, reaching heaven and living eternally with Christ himself.
Hinduism has many deities that are worshipped. Depending on what type of deity you worship
depends on one s own personality or age. The most common deities prayed to would be the three in
the Trimurti. Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva and represent the forces of creation, preservation, and
destruction. Brahma is the god of creation and often depicted as having four faces looking in all
directions and eight arms holding symbols of power. Vishnu is the god of preserving the universe
and is often depicted as having four arms holding symbols of power and usually wears a tall
crown. Shiva is the god of destruction but also recreation. Shiva could be the most misunderstood
god in Hinduism because most people

dehumanizing laws or a structure will deprive our free will, and recreate the creation of God to the
unnatural creation done mechanically. The novel, A Clockwork Orange

her family pushed him back from his house, though he ends up being at the cottage marked
HOME . This is an ironic pattern for Alex because he was unwanted by his real home but he was
accepted by HOME . However, even though F. Alexander the owner of the cottage accepted

Low Voter Voting
PART III: CHAPTER 1 QUESTIONS
Question 1. Even in a presidential election, only about half of the eligible adults exercise their right
to vote. What are the consequences of a low voter turnout? Does low turnout have any possible
benefits?
In my opinion, I believe everyone that is eligible to vote should vote. This amazing opportunity to
go out and have an impact on policies that affect our lives should not be taken lightly. For a long
period of time through American history neither women nor African Americans were permitted to
vote, and they fought for that opportunity to participate. I do not understand why anyone would
throw out that chance to make a difference for a change they want to see, because nothing will get
done by sitting down and waiting for someone else to fix the problem. As stated in our text Voter
turnout has remained well below that of other advanced democracies (Losco 2). In my personal
belief, having half of eligible voters show up to vote is unacceptable, because it may result in
major lifelong ramifications. I believe the lack of participation in voting, is resulting in people
becoming elected, and laws getting past that most people are not aware of. I would have to
strongly agree with the Greek philosopher Aristotle who felt that citizens should not simply sit
back and enjoy the benefits of society; they must also take responsibility for its operation. (Losco

Four Season Hotel Sustainability Essay
Introduction
In the present, sustainability is increasingly seen as an important factor in our society, especially in
organizations such as accommodation provider or tour company. According to Ullman (2009)
Sustainability practice is very important, because all the actions that we make today will affect
everything in the future, therefore we need to make flexible decisions at present in order to avoid
some negative consequences. By adopting sustainability practices, companies are able to gain
competitive edge, increase their market share, and boost shareholder value (Frandsen, Morsing,
Vallentin, 2013). Sustainability issues does not always refer to environmental sustainability but also
relate to economic and social sustainability. This report will discuss and identify the most important
sustainability issues that Four Season Hotel Sydney is facing, then apply an appropriate tourism
sustainability criteria and assess how this hotel is addressing sustainability, finally talk about how
to improve sustainability practices and recommendations.

King Lear s Wheel Comes Full Circle
The wheel comes full circle is a quote that has been changed over the years.I personally relate
this quote to karma, although I believe this is what Lear was saying as well.If you relate this
quote to actions,it seems that it could almost be a cause and effect action. But the way it is a
action with highs and lows, and the middle is more or less the fall out of what was done.If a evil
person does an evil action,he often is rewarded with what was sought after as long as his plan
workouts out.But this man also receives the very evil that he used to get ahead. This is why I
relate the quote to karma, but it doesn t always follow this path either.Good people die young
aswell, and if bad things happen to bad people, then why won t good things happen to good people?

How Did Marie Curie Use X-Ray

Marie Curie and the Exploration of Radium During the early nineteenth century, French physicist
Henri Becquerel observed radioactivity by recording how uranium emits radiation that is strong
enough to blacken covered photographic plates. Scientists used to believe that uranium emitted rays
, after they headed about Becquerel s work. Later on, after Curie s research, they came to know
that those rays were actually very small particles. Wilhelm Roentgen discovered x rays, which led
Marie Curie to use x ray treatment during World War I to heal thousands of wounded soldiers and
educate thousands of women about this technique. Without Roentgen s early discoveries, Marie
Curie would not have been able to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Henri Becquerel studied how uranium emitted radiation. Using this discovery as her thesis topic,
Marie Curie wanted to know more. According to the Atomic Heritage Foundation, she wondered
whether or not there were other elements that emitted radiation. She soon discovered that thorium
emitted radiation as well. She came to the conclusion that radioactivity does not depend on how the
atoms are arranged into molecules, but with the atoms themselves. For this revolutionary discovery,
Marie and Pierre Curie won a Nobel Prize in Physics. She even coined the term radioactivity ,
which is the disintegration of an unstable nucleus by the change of the energy level of the
nucleus by gamma ray emission. She also changed scientists views on atoms. Originally, scientists
believed that atoms were unbreakable bits of matter, but Marie Curie proved them wrong. She
stated that radium atoms break apart into several smaller atoms of all different sizes. This was
one of her greatest motivations to discover two incredibly radioactive elements, radium and
polonium. She also proved that rays are actually energy that is released from within the atom,
rather than the age old belief that rays came from the surface of the material. She worked with J.J.
Thompson, using x rays, to figure out that atoms were not just the smallest bits of matter, since
there were rays that are made up of even smaller

Political Economy Model Of Disease
The relationship between society and disease causes some of the most complex issues in existence
today. This complexity continues to grow, as the global community does not have a universal mode
of combating health decline. For this reason, some diseases and causative agents have thrived for
hundreds and thousands of years without a true cure. Fortunately, there are numerous scientific
fields dedicated to researching the problems and solutions that contribute to worldwide health.
Medical anthropology is one of the fields that attempt to bridge the gap between contrasting belief
systems, and ask the sensitive questions that politicians and world leaders avoid answering. For this
reason, understanding disease is becoming more available, and... Show more content on

43). The strength of these forces influenced people for centuries, and determined which individuals
thrived when illness spread. Although this model has only recently emerged, the hierarchy that
existed in every point in time shows that the model is accurate for its role in shaping overall health.
Historically, those in power were the first to receive treatment or prophylaxis against illness. Those
who could not contribute to the economy nor had a voice in politics were always at the greatest risk
for disease. Darwin s theory of evolution can be applied to the political economy model of disease
because the fittest individuals at a given time will overcome the challenges posed by the economic
and political demands. In modern times, this model is woven between the complexities of
economic development and the emergence of diseases that cause health decline. The state of the
political environment surrounding health and economics ultimately drives which issues are of most
concern. In United States politics, stem cell research, abortion, birth control, and cancer are
important and controversial health related topics. The reason these topics get the most attention is
because they have the potential to stimulate or hinder the economy, and create progress or partitions
throughout the country. When applying this model to smallpox, it is understood that the demand for
vaccination and eradication was stemmed from political motives. The desire to end worldwide
epidemics was appropriated through the global contributions that occurred hand in hand with
foreign policies that provided economic gain. The economic and political infrastructures at the
time when smallpox was eradicated called for worldwide compliance, especially as a way to come
to a consensus

  • 2. Benefits Of Genetically Modified Crops The topic of GM crops is perhaps one of the most exiting and continually growing aspects of genetic science. It has an interesting history, many and varied applications, well researched techniques and its own set of issues ripe for debate; this essay will discuss these aspects. Genetically modified crops have been a large part of the agricultural landscape for thousands of years. Ever since wild crops were domesticated by the first farmers domesticated wild varieties of grains and tubers. Simply by selecting the most hardy and highest yielding wild strains early farmers began genetic modification. These plants were then selectively bred for thousands of years so as to further increase their yields and tolerance to damage. In more recent history efforts to modify the genes of plants using methods other than selective breeding were attempted. Hermann Muller, in 1926, discovered that dosing organisms with X rays caused lethal genetic mutations. This technology was proposed to modify organisms in non lethal ways using varying doses of x rays (Carlson, 1983). But the biggest and most progressing genetic technology was the invention of recombinant DNA splicing in the late 1970 s. This technology revolutionised the way in which genetic modification was thought about, it provided an effective method genetic manipulation and opened the door for many future advances in genetic science. This advance in technology allowed for the 1987 creation of the first GM crop, a tobacco crop ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. A Study Of History Coupled With Kuhn s Model For... Delbruck s application of science to the study of history coupled with Kuhn s model for scientific revolutions sheds light on the German High Command s inability to adapt its strategy during World War I. To begin, Kuhn s model addresses how scientists arrive at new knowledge from periodic revolutions or paradigm shifts. Normal science is research based on achievements where established rules and standards leave little disagreement among practitioners concerning the fundamentals. Consequently, problem solving uses a predetermined solution that generally fails to account for anomalies. Scientists become aware of this, yet they hold on to the existing theory. This continues until the theory weakens and other possibilities are considered. At a given point, crisis occurs which might initiate a scientific revolution. Once the revolution occurs, the new paradigm often requires rewriting texts on the subject area. Comparatively, Delbruck s use of various scientific methodologies resulted in new ideas offering new explanations concerning historical events. Delbruck traced the evolution of tactics by checking facts and taking note of anomalies where he reconstructed battles from the Persian Wars to those of Napoleon. Delbruck then connected the character and design of the state with the tactics and strategy it employed. Discovering that warfare differed from one era to the next, his studies overturned many common interpretations of historical events. With that, Delbruck ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Franklin s dream for Oakland was drastically different from the smog filled Downtown and was an ambitious goal. However, with the help of other Pittsburgh notables: Andrew W. Today the university holds similar student events in the William Pitt Union. Mr. Coates was named one of TIME Magazine s 100 Most Influential People in 2016, and it was a great informational event that many students took the opportunity to attend. However, in contrast the University has also held some not so prestigious events as well. For me it is baffling to think that in the same building where presidents stayed, and Martin Luther King Junior gave a speech, the University showed the overly sexual and disturbing movie Sausage Party , or held a Residential Life Pillow Fight (which in itself just seems strange to me). While the University does put on numerous educational events for both the community and students; the William Pitt Union Student Center sees its fair share ... • 5. Darwin s Theory Of Biological Evolution Evolution refers to the processes that have transformed life on Earth from its earliest forms to the vast diversity that characterizes it today (Campbell, 1993). However, a lot of things can change over a period of time. The Father of Evolution who is known as Charles Darwin, developed the theory of biological evolution. This theory has long been debated during and after darwin s time. Biological evolution can be seen through a momentous change in organisms by changing of the genetic composition. Darwin s theory did not only create a topic of controversy, but it was able to create a way of understanding life through biological evolution. The traditional Judeo Christian version of Creationism was strongly reinforced by James ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It had a beginning, but it has no ending. Creation is always busy making new scenes, new things and new Worlds (Weiner 3). In the bible it states that all living things were created at the hands of God. No one has ever desired to challenge the Catholic Church of this belief. Until a man by the name of Charles Darwin discovered the wonders on Daphne Major. After his survey of the island, he concluded that there was something about the finches beaks that made them unique to each of the islands. Making meticulous observations of the beaks he saw that each finch had a specific set of beaks. This allowed them to adapt to a specific niche in their environment. What is more. the tame little birds that Darwin had found hopping around beneath the bushes were unique too. They were not relatives of blackbirds, walders, wrens, and finches, as Darwin had thought when he bagged them (Weiner 28). Darwin speculated about how natural selectionis one of the main concepts for biological evolution. Natural selection consisted of descent with modification, known as a gradual process over time, heritable biological traits become either more or less common in a population. When the next generation of that species gains that dominant trait in the population, this is known as descent with modification. Observing descent with modification is still prominent during that time period. According to the Variation Lab, natural selection was the driving mechanism for biological evolution. ... Though average length of hospital stays has decreased for those over 65, their visits to physicians are over twice as frequent as those under 65. With increases in age, the intensity of using health care resources increases: Those over 75, though only 5.5 percent of the total population in 1993, accounted for 28 percent of all hospital days. At the same time, the caregiver population comprised of both the elderly and non elderly will be impacted by these changes. Aging is also an aspect of population dynamics that affects the level of poverty also. As fertility declines and the population ages, traditional family based systems for providing old age care may weaken, leaving the elderly vulnerable. The income security of older persons is a policy concern not only in developed countries but increasingly as well in developing countries such as China that have passed through the demographic transition. Between 2000 and 2050, the proportion of the population aged 65 and older will have doubled in most developing regions. This exponential increase in the aging populous could leave that generation drastically vulnerable. Not only would the health standard be effected but also the income producing majority. • 9. Ernest Hemingway Apathetic American Stereotypes Apathetic Americans Stereotypes have shaped the way people think about the World and everyone around them. They are undeniably over exaggerated, but are based on a sliver of truth. For example, stereotypical Americans are seen as rude, stupid, greedy, and very patriotic. In the case of Americans, Donald J. Trump is the embodiment of the American stereotype. During his presidential campaign, Trump made many vulgar remarks, and his goal was to make America great again. These American stereotypes are also apparent in Ernest Hemingway s short stories, most notably in Cat in the Rain, The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber, and the interchapters of In Our Time. Hemingway s short stories portray Americans as being insensitive to the World around them. Americans are insensitive through their insatiable greed, emotional unawareness, and cultural disregard. Hemingway s Americans continual desire for more alienates them from the rest of society, proving their lack of understanding for the world. In Cat in the Rain, an American couple is vacationing in Italy. Instead of admiring the beauty of their surroundings, the Americans instead focus on irrelevant trivial pursuits, illustrating their greed. After going down to retrieve the cat, the wife is immediately attracted to the hotel owner, proving Americans ever evolving want for new things: She liked the way he wanted to serve her. [...] She liked his old, heavy face and big hands (Hemingway 130). Instead of staying loyal to her husband, the American wife forgets he exists and moves on to the next best person she finds, showing the apathy Americans possess for what they already have. Additionally, the hotel owner is simply doing his job, and the American wife s failure to realize this results from her greed, which severely clouds her judgement. The greed Americans possess is further proven with the American wife s childish behavior throughout the story. When the wife cannot find the cat, she complains, I wanted it so much [...] I don t know why I wanted it so much (130). Back in the hotel room, the wife demands to her husband that she want[s] to pull [her] hair back, and to have a kitty to sit on [her] lap and purr when [she] stroke[s] her (131). The ... The vast majority of caucasian people in the South owned some number of African American slaves and because of this, white superiority flourished. The entire culture of America in this time was that the white man was better than the black man and the black man deserved the hard labor because it is all he was really good for. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finnby Mark Twainis set in this pre war time period, in the South, where the slavery and white supremacy was felt most prominently. We know so little about the era in which he lived because of the loss of many ancient manuscripts at the burning of the Library of Alexandria. Given this massive loss of knowledge of the pre modern world, it is hard to cobble together a full biography of Euripides. There is, however quite a lot of information known about him. This is known due to the fact that Euripides is a character in some of Aristophanes and the other comic poet s comedies. The largest comprehensive collection of information on the playwright, however, is from a biography called The Life of Euripides by Satyrus of Callatis (Lefkowitz 87). The play that we have chosen to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Or perhaps, he, like many writers, preferred to write in solitude. Throughout his life, Euripides married twice and had three sons. His wives were Melito and Choirile and his sons were named Mnesarchides, Mnesilochus, and Euripides. Two of his sons, Mnesilochus and Euripides, followed in their father s footsteps and became an actor and producer, respectively (Satyrus 153). Satyrus mentions in his Vita that Euripides first wife was unfaithful, to which Lefkowitz adds that she slept with their slave, Cephisophon (Lefkowitz 97). Satyrus explains that after discovering that she had committed adultery, he penned Hippolytus, in which he exposes women s immorality. (154) After remarrying, Euripides discovered that his second wife was also unfaithful. This was said to make him even more eager to slander women. (Satyrus 154) Speculation of how Euripides works were perceived when they were new is a difficult concept. Given how male dominated society was at the time, a safe assumption is that Hippolytus was well accepted, as were many of his other works. Medea, as another example, was probably well accepted by Greeks because of its superficial display of women and foreigners. Today, the play is known to be an interesting analysis of a complex character oppressed by society, but in ancient times, it is uncertain whether the theatre patrons would have seen past the surface. • 13. The Themes Of Totalitarian Government In Ayn Rand s Anthem Ayn Rand s Anthem is a dystopian novella, which means it addresses the dehumanization of mankind usually by some kind of totalitarian government. That is true for this work as can be seen by the following evidences; every character is nameless and is known only by a number (the protagonist is Equality 7 2521, for example), no one is allowed to be distinguished from anyone else (all men are brothers without any distinctions or divisions), all decisions are made for the common man by Scholars and Councils (including each person s profession), thinking, dreaming, and creating are strictly forbidden (and punishable crimes if they are discovered), being alone is the greatest crime/sin (as that wrongly distinguishes one man from his brothers), work is the greatest good (so anything that eases men s labor is a crime), and independent thinking is not allowed (the only good is the collective good.) The theme of this work is relatively simple and has two parts. When the individualI is absorbed into the collective we , men degenerate into mindless, uncreative, and uninspired automatons who do nothing but live to work and die young and exhausted. However, the spirit of freedom and individuality lives on even in such a world, and a rare man will survive the oppression of the collective to create, think, dream, and love. It is a sin to write this. It is a sin to think words no others think and to put them down upon a paper no others are to see. It is base and evil. It is as if we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. George Orwell s Animal Farm Essay Karl Marx, writer of Communist Manifesto, is represented as an old, wise pig in George Orwell s Animal Farm. Because Orwell is a democratic socialist and does not accept the ideologies of Marxism, he reveals the reality of communism and reflects his opinions through sardonic situations that occur among animals. The state of communismthat Marx and Friedrich Engelsdescribe is where the state is abolished, people live in a society where members work together in agreement and no one is exploited, and every member shares the rewards of hard work. The envisions of Marx greatly contrasted with the plot of Animal Farm. Old Major, a pig, had a dream that mirrored Marx and his dream of communism. This dream is ironic because it suggests that communism is only a dream. The Soviet Union s policies were seen as steps to reach communism, rather than the end result of communism, in which all animals of the farm endured. The characters in animal farm had to pass through this in between stage before becoming a complete communist society, and in reality they remained in this stage and believed they were close to their goal. The animals, who were the laborers, fulfilled Old Major s wish and overthrew the capitalistic men with a revolution, much like how Marx and Engels hoped for the day the Proletarians would overthrow the Bourgeois, the owners of private property. He focused on arousing the animals emotionally and didn t mention any practical reasons to help solve their issues. However, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The opening sequence of this film uses a variety of film making techniques such as cinematography, mise en scene, editing and sound to create tension and threat, and in this essay I will be picking out key bits which specifically do that. On aspect of Editing used to create realisations is fades. The credits throughout the beginning of the clip slowly fade away suggesting threat and tension is slowly built up throughout the rest of the clip. This show how editing is also key in the making of thrillers and really does need to be considered in order to create tension and threat in thrillers. Lab Report Module Name: Mechanical Principles (ENGD1005) Experiment Name: Thermal Conductivity Student P number: P14177341 Lab Tutor : Dr Rick Greenough Date: 26/11/2014 Objectives of the experiment: The objective of the experiment was to measure and determine the coefficient of thermal conductivity for copper and stainless steel. Background: Thermal conduction is the transfer of heat energy in a material due to the temperature gradient. It always takes place from a region of high temperature to a region of low temperature. Heat transfers at a higher rate across materials that have high thermal conductivity than across materials with low thermal conductivity. Thermal conductivity is temperature dependant. Apparatus: Thermocouple potentiometer Cussons thermal conductivity apparatus. Measuring beaker Procedure: Firstly before the experiment begins ensure the apparatus has been set up correctly, i.e checking if all dials are in their correct position. After the apparatus has been set up, what should be done is the temperatures of the cold water in and hot water out should be noted down, this is done by reading the temperature gauges on the cussons thermal conductivity apparatus . After temperature of cold water in and hot water out has been noted you can move onto using the Thermocouple potentiometer to find the temperature of the water as it is heated through the metals and out of the metals. Whether those were positive or negative developments, it is a relative matter. Diaz was especially fascinated by Europe and was fascinated by the culture there. Vicente Riva Palacio embodies this fascination in his novel titled, Cuentos del General, which made readers ponder about the life in Europe. This novel is an example of many that emerged during this era and gives a glimpse into perspectives on Europe from the eyes of different inhabitants of Latin America. On his excursions, Diaz discovered many different techniques that he desired to introduce to the Mexican nation. Diaz s influence over education originated from his struggle to gaining public favorability. Veronica is a young but unique character who is carefully crafted in this story by Adewale Maja Pearce who evokes emotions of sympathy towards her in a distinctive way; Veronica is not a woman who fits in with the stereotypical idea of a woman from the village, she does not seem to care that there is no hope for a better life or the future. This is perhaps the main reason why we as readers feel more sympathy towards Veronica as opposed to Mathilde in The Necklace; her almost inhuman ability to simply accept everything that is thrown at her. Mathilde is directly opposite to Veronica in the way that she behaves: Veronica accepts her unlucky situations and Mathilde complains and makes her life worse. Initially, the writer introduces ... The use of the subordinate clause puts an emphasis on and further describes the state in which people were barely living in. Maja Pearce creates sympathy for Veronica by describing the surroundings that Veronica had to endure to survive. People like us, living in Africa can relate to these conditions because Malawi is a poor country and we understand the way these people have to live. Veronica is depicted as a womanwho accepts any situation, downfall or calamity that comes her way. She speaks without bitterness at the things she does not have. They are my family, that is enough even after her family treated her badly and left her. Veronica exceeds all stereotypes of selfless people. Instead of being ashamed or unhappy with her situation like Mathilde, she embraces her fate. Speaking without bitterness implies that Veronica is not affected by what people do or say to her creating sympathy for her. The reader also feels respectful towards Veronica as she keeps her dignity throughout the whole story and her life. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The oil on canvas painting, displays a rocky landscape which captures the beauty of nature and civilization while also provoking thought in the viewer. An individual s nature to hope for something better than the current discomfort he or she is experiencing is portrayed through Cole s use of colorand environmental contrast in this piece. The work is very smooth and fluid making it appear much like a photograph. The oil is not built up on top of itself keeping it very two dimensional. The colors vary between dark and lightthroughout the painting. In the top right corner, the sun, outside the painting, shining down, aluminates the castle and also the lone tree at the bottom left corner. Besides the back cliff, the rest of the painting is in shadow and displayed in a much more melancholy tone. The colors that Cole focuses on, to display the sharp contrast between rock and nature, are mostly dark greens and gold. The striking blue of the river stands out dramatically from the rest of the colors and draws the eyeafter the initial citing. The grey in the cloud is the only place where I can find that shade of gray in the work, and it sets itself apart from the snow white clouds in the background. The color helps draw the eye immediately to the castle on the hill. My eyes then fallow the flow of the river down to the tree, which is illuminated by a beam of sunlight. ... • 43. Essay about Reviving Psychophysical Supervenience Reviving Psychophysical Supervenience ABSTRACT: Many philosophers have lost their enthusiasm for the concept of supervenience in the philosophy of mind. This is largely due to the fact that, as Jaegwon Kim has shown, familiar versions of supervenience describe relations of mere property covariation without capturing the idea of dependence. Since the dependence of the mental on the physical is a necessary requirement for even the weakest version of physicalism, it would seem that existing forms of supervenience cannot achieve that for which they were designed. My aim is to revive the concept of supervenience. I argue that if we construe supervenience along Davidsonian lines as a relation connecting predicates rather than properties ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In light of this, many have lost their enthusiasm for this idea. My goal in this paper is to renew our faith in supervenience. To do so, however, will not require the development of a new formulation of the concept; instead, it involves clearing up some misconceptions about an existing version of this relation. I refer to Davidson s original treatment of supervenience. Most have assumed that Davidson s brand of supervenience is equivalent to Kim s weak supervenience, which is too weak to express dependence. I will argue that Davidson s conception of supervenience is, despite certain formal similarities, quite different from Kim s and clearly captures a sense of psychophysical dependence that is of use to forms of physicalism. As I see it, the difference between Kim s approach and Davidson s lies in the items supervenience is thought to connect. Kim s formulations of supervenience connect properties, which he takes to be the ontological building blocks of events. In general then, Kim treats supervenience as a metaphysical thesis about the distribution of properties in possible worlds. By contrast, Davidson has little tolerance for the idea that events should be analyzed in terms of property exemplifications. Given Davidson s reluctance to endorse properties, he prefers to think of supervenience as a relation between ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Due to the negative potential outcome of this threat, risk avoidance would be the best strategy. Keeping everything updated will only get you so far. It would be wise to have an inside hacker who can help find any weaknesses in your security so you can make patches or reinforce the weakness. This can help the company stay one step ahead of any threat groups. Along with understanding the best strategy for a risk, it is also good to understand the potential controls needed to mitigate each risk. Preventative controls are needed for a compromised game server. This is mitigation control would work for this threat because it is a preventable problem. To reduce the risk of a DDoS attack, administrative controls would be a good approach. The chances of this attack happening would be lessened if permissions to data and servers were controlled (State University of New York, 2015). It is best to ensure no one person has access to everything. For a threat such as TG 3279, it is best to use a detective control. • 45. Differences Of Hinduism And Hinduism Hinduism is one big family of beliefs that unites the worship of many gods with a belief in a single divine reality. Hinduism does not have an identifiable founder nor a structure in place to defend it and spread its guidance, or a creed to steady its beliefs. In Christianity we find that Jesus is the originator of this religion, and is purely a missionary religion. Also, in similar sense there are many denominations within the religion that have different teachings but all usually lead to the same result, reaching heaven and living eternally with Christ himself. Hinduism has many deities that are worshipped. Depending on what type of deity you worship depends on one s own personality or age. The most common deities prayed to would be the three in the Trimurti. Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva and represent the forces of creation, preservation, and destruction. • 47. Low Voter Voting PART III: CHAPTER 1 QUESTIONS Question 1. Even in a presidential election, only about half of the eligible adults exercise their right to vote. What are the consequences of a low voter turnout? Does low turnout have any possible benefits? In my opinion, I believe everyone that is eligible to vote should vote. This amazing opportunity to go out and have an impact on policies that affect our lives should not be taken lightly. For a long period of time through American history neither women nor African Americans were permitted to vote, and they fought for that opportunity to participate. I do not understand why anyone would throw out that chance to make a difference for a change they want to see, because nothing will get done by sitting down and waiting for someone else to fix the problem. As stated in our text Voter turnout has remained well below that of other advanced democracies (Losco 2). In my personal belief, having half of eligible voters show up to vote is unacceptable, because it may result in major lifelong ramifications. I believe the lack of participation in voting, is resulting in people becoming elected, and laws getting past that most people are not aware of. I would have to strongly agree with the Greek philosopher Aristotle who felt that citizens should not simply sit back and enjoy the benefits of society; they must also take responsibility for its operation. Scientists used to believe that uranium emitted rays , after they headed about Becquerel s work. Later on, after Curie s research, they came to know that those rays were actually very small particles. Using this discovery as her thesis topic, Marie Curie wanted to know more. According to the Atomic Heritage Foundation, she wondered whether or not there were other elements that emitted radiation. She soon discovered that thorium emitted radiation as well. She came to the conclusion that radioactivity does not depend on how the atoms are arranged into molecules, but with the atoms themselves. For this revolutionary discovery, Marie and Pierre Curie won a Nobel Prize in Physics. She even coined the term radioactivity , which is the disintegration of an unstable nucleus by the change of the energy level of the nucleus by gamma ray emission. She also changed scientists views on atoms. Originally, scientists believed that atoms were unbreakable bits of matter, but Marie Curie proved them wrong. She stated that radium atoms break apart into several smaller atoms of all different sizes. This was one of her greatest motivations to discover two incredibly radioactive elements, radium and polonium. She also proved that rays are actually energy that is released from within the atom, rather than the age old belief that rays came from the surface of the material. She worked with J.J. Thompson, using x rays, to figure out that atoms were not just the smallest bits of matter, since there were rays that are made up of even smaller ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The strength of these forces influenced people for centuries, and determined which individuals thrived when illness spread. Although this model has only recently emerged, the hierarchy that existed in every point in time shows that the model is accurate for its role in shaping overall health. Historically, those in power were the first to receive treatment or prophylaxis against illness. Those who could not contribute to the economy nor had a voice in politics were always at the greatest risk for disease. Darwin s theory of evolution can be applied to the political economy model of disease because the fittest individuals at a given time will overcome the challenges posed by the economic and political demands. In modern times, this model is woven between the complexities of economic development and the emergence of diseases that cause health decline. The state of the political environment surrounding health and economics ultimately drives which issues are of most concern. In United States politics, stem cell research, abortion, birth control, and cancer are important and controversial health related topics. The reason these topics get the most attention is because they have the potential to stimulate or hinder the economy, and create progress or partitions throughout the country. When applying this model to smallpox, it is understood that the demand for vaccination and eradication was stemmed from political motives. The desire to end worldwide epidemics was appropriated through the global contributions that occurred hand in hand with foreign policies that provided economic gain.
