Essay South Beach Diet
South Beach Diet
The South Beach Diet is a relatively new weight loss diet. It was developed by Miami cardiologist
Arthur Agatston, M.D., who is the director of the Mount Sinai Cardiac Prevention Center. The diet
is meant to promote weight loss but not at the expense of heart health. Unlike other wildly popular
low carb plans, South Beach calls for keeping tabs on saturated fats and favors lean meats and
proteins over bacon, cheeseburgers, and steaks. With this diet there is no calorie counting. In fact,
there is no actual diet plan per se. Agatston uses sample menus to outline what you need to eat.
Lists of foods to enjoy and foods to avoid round out the plan. Basically it adds up to three meals a

Edgar Hoover s Accomplishments
J. Edgar Hoover, born January 1st 1895, was the director of the FBI from 1924 until his death in
1972. In this paper I will be discussing J. Edgar Hoover s childhood, the timeline of his career,
and his legacy. Hoover lived in Washington, D.C. his whole life. He was born in a white,
Protestant, middle class neighborhood (PBS.org) called Seward Square, few blocks behind the
Capitol. His family had been civil servants for generations . (PBS.org) His dad, Dickerson
Naylor Hoover, worked for the Coast Guard. Hoover was closest to his mother, Annie. She was
the disciplinarian and moral guide of the family. He lived with her until she died in 1938 when he
was 43 years old. Hoover was very competitive as a child. To overcome a stuttering problem, he
taught himself to speak fast, earning the nickname Speed, and then decided to join the high school
debate team.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and just one year later he earned his master of laws in 1917. He was named assistant to attorney
general in 1918, and the following year he was appointed head of General Intelligence Division
(also known as the Radical Division because its goal was to monitor and disrupt the work of
domestic radicals) (1919). On January 2nd 1920 Hoover organized raids to be carried out in 3
different cities. At least 3000 were arrested. The raids took place in 30 cities and towns in 23
states. In 1921, he was named assistant director of the bureau of investigation. By 1924 he was
named bureau director by attorney general harlan stone. When he took over as the director of the
FBI, it had about 650 agents, and when counted again in 1970 ( 2 years before he died) there
were 10,000 agents. He continued to be the head director of the FBI for over 48 years, until his

Federal Information Security Management Act
Federal Information Security Management Act (F.I.S.M.A.)
As government agencies began to realize that their corporate and customer information was not as
private and as safe as they had advertised, they called upon The National Institute of Standards and
Technology (NIST) to construct a set of guideline to control and protect information security. The
growing need to safeguard such information caused agencies, particularly government agencies, to
seek assistance collectively to avoid security breach escalations.
A September 2000 Report to the Chairman, Subcommittee on Government Management,
Information and Technology, Committee on Government Reform, House of Representatives:
Information Security Serious and Widespread Weaknesses Persist at Federal Agencies concluded
the following:
Evaluations of computer security published since July 1999 continue to show that federal
computer security is fraught with weaknesses and that, as a result, critical operations and assets
continue to be at risk. As in 1998, our current analysis identified significant weaknesses in each
of the 24 agencies covered by our review. Since July 1999, the range of weaknesses in individual
agencies has broadened, at least in part because the scope of audits being performed is more
comprehensive than in prior years. While these audits are providing a more complete picture of the
security problems agencies face, they also show that agencies have much work to do to ensure that
their security programs are

Justice In Fury
Fury is the latest movie from director David Ayer, who also directed the films: End of Watch,
Sabotage, and Street Kings. Fury is defined as a wild or violent anger, or a spirit of punishment
from Greek Mythology. After seeing this movie, I now have a slightly different interpretation. I
now define fury as the uncontrollable rage of anger from a righteous man attempting to achieve
justice for the lost and the departed. In Fury a 5 man Sherman tank unit from the United States
embarks on a mission into Germany during World War II to protect a supply line from an
advancing Nazi SS unit on a collision course with them. The M4 Sherman Tank was rushed into
production in October 1941 as a response to the fall of France in only a matter of weeks to
Germany s Nazi soldiers. At this time the U.S. had fallen behind in tank technology, as no
immediate threat seemed imminent to the U.S. after World War I. The design of the Sherman tank
emphasized speed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is where Private Norman, brought to fragile life by Logan Lerman (Noah, Percy Jackson:
Sea of Monsters, and The Perks of Being a Wallflower), is assigned to be the new assistant driver
for Fury. Norman has only been in the army for 8 weeks, has never been inside of a tank, or
killed a single enemy in combat. Fury s strength comes from her crew having been together the
longest. They think, act, and battle as one; but now Norman is about to put all of that into
jeopardy. The strength of the movie is not in the vast and beautiful landscapes of Europe; it is not
in the highly visual battle scenes and the raw presentation of war; but it is in the fact that people
when faced with insurmountable odds must band together as brothers and do the impossible. This
process is typically painful, just like the birth of a child; but after all of the screaming stops,

Communism In America
In the words of Abraham Lincoln, Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for
themselves. Freedom has been a topic of many meetings of Congress over the past few centuries,
as it is one of the main American ideals that formed our great nation. However, in the last seventy
years, there have been many attacks upon the American people that instill fear in the hearts of
many. Fear in a large group of people leads to rash decisions that could eventually precipitate the
loss of the common man s freedom. Losing freedom due to fear shies away from all of the
traditional American ideals of our forefathers, one of which was opportunity and freedom of the
common man. In the late 1940s and the early 1950s, United Statescitizens were left in tumult when
they caught wind of the impending shadow of communism. This was the Red Scare, a period of
time many people today use when describing mass hysteria and scapegoating. Communism in

The legalization of gay marriage has been a controversial issue in many state courts since the mid
1970s. Gay marriage scares many people because it strays from the norms of heterosexual
relationships. Traditional American ideals have become a part of culture and society that
everyone, regardless of sexual orientation, or race, or gender, expect to have as a basic human
rights. Several times in history these have been identified as inalienable rights. One of the expected
rights of many American citizens is the right to choose who they love, who they marry, and how
they live their day to day life. When heterosexual Americans were introduced to the idea of same
sex marriage, they became afraid that it would taint the minds of the young members of the
community, since homosexualty was and still is frowned upon in the community. Thus, the
homosexual community s opportunity to freely choose how to live their life is taken

The Land Of Opportunity By Loewen
Millennials form the majority of the United States population, outnumbering Baby Boomers by
eleven million. Higher education is now more crucial for securing a middle class lifestyle than
ever before, yet for the majority, the cost for a bachelor s degree has become prohibitively
expensive. In The Land of Opportunity , Loewen contends that high school education methodically
avoids a critical dialogue of socioeconomic inequality in America. The social classto which a
student belongs greatly influences their capacity for upward mobility. If higher educationis a
requirement for improved economic status, then students in the lower class are already
disadvantaged. Loewen quotes Theodore Sizer, If you are the child of low income parents, the
chances are good that you will receive limited and often careless attention from adults in your high
school (qtd. in Loewen, 203). High school students cannot look to the classroom to prepare them for
real world power dynamics. If left to their own devices, adolescents may be influenced by skewed
allegories in fictional entertainment media. Parents must use educational resources to prompt
critical thinking about socioeconomic inequality in order to prepare America s youth for securing
their futures. Though there may be little to no exposure to these ideas in the classroom, students
will encounter them as they consume mass entertainment media. Social class disparity has long
been a reoccurring theme in film. Adolescents and young adults

Exploring the Schema Theory of Learning Essay
Theories of Learning
Schema Theory
Overview: Schema Theory is part of the cognitive theories of learning module and deals with how
the brain processes new knowledge (Chalmers, 2003). Schemata are packets of prior knowledge
that have been stored in a learner s memory. Each learner has developed schemata that are based on
prior experience and knowledge. Learners seek to connect new information with prior knowledge
and use generalizations to assist in organization of information. Schema Theory is focused on
conceptual learning and states that knowledge seeks organization in order to develop meaning
(Anderson, 1984).
Contributors: Major contributors to Schema Theory include Frederic Bartlett, Jean Piaget, Richard
C. Anderson, Marvin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This meaning is interrelated to prior knowledge and/or experience. Without a schema to which an
event can be assimilated, learning is slow and uncertain (Anderson, 1984, pg. 5). Knowledge that
does is not easily connected with previous schemata may undergo a form of schema evolution or
be discarded (Rumelhart Norman, 1980). Thus, development of new schemata or expanding of
existing schemata relies heavily on a learner s prior knowledge.
Application: Schema Theory s application in the learning environment can be seen in a variety of
ways in the learning environment. Schema Theory relies heavily on building connections to prior
learning. Therefore, it is crucial to employ teaching to expand learner s general knowledge and
concepts in order to provide a base for schematic connections. Teachers can be seen reminding
students of what they already know in order to build on previous knowledge and help make
connections to new ideas. However, teachers must understand that not all learner s schemata are the
same. A method of instruction that has its roots in Schema Theory and is often used in learning
environments is concept mapping. Concept mapping allows students to build on their previous
knowledge by connecting a cluster of concepts to a memory that is already encoded. Another way
teachers often tap into schemata theory is by focusing on skill based learning rather than rote
memorization. By

Roman Catholic Saints Research Paper
Roman Catholic Saints The book of Romans chapter one, verse seven; To all those in Rome who
are loved by God and called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord

There are so very many Catholic Saints, but female saints have gone through some very appalling

Blessed Virgin, Saint Mary of Magdala, Saint Faith of Conques, Saint Agnes of Rome, Saint

Theories Of Psychology
The first theories talked about within chapter 4 are the inferiority and superiority complex
theories developed by Alfred. The infinity feelings are the source of all human striving, and is
normal among us all. It is brought about as soon as we are born, as we must compensate for our
lack of size or independence. The greatest example I can give of the inferiority feeling happened
two days ago with the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. Abdellatif Baka of Algeria won the T13
1500m final on Monday night in a stunning performance that not only set a new Paralympic world
record, but stands as the fastest 1500m time recorded by an able bodied or disabled athlete in Rio
over both the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Among him was three other runners that finished...

A female patient from New York City is obviously going to be much different than a female farm
wife from Oklahoma. Personality doesn t depend wholly on biological forces, but depends much
more on the environment we was raised in. Horney believed that childhood was dominated by
the safety need, which is a higher level need for security and freedom from fear. She placed great
emphasis on the infant s helplessness. The more helpless children feel, the less they dare to rebel
against their parents. She also dwelled on anxiety which she called basic anxiety. Basic anxiety is
a pervasive feeling of loneliness and helplessness, that becomes the foundation for neurosis. In
childhood we try to protect ourselves against basic anxiety by securing affection, being submissive,
attaining power, and by withdrawing. These self protective mechanisms serve the one goal of
defending basic anxiety. Karen also developed a list of ten neurotic needs. A neurotic need is an
irrational defense against anxiety that becomes a permanent part of personality and affects
behavior. Then ten neurotic needs are: affection and approval, a dominant partner, power,
exploitation, prestige, admiration, achievement and ambition, self sufficiency, perfection, narrow
limits to life. Developing these needs will not make us feel safe and secure but help us escape the

Turkeys In The Kitchen Analysis
Turkeys in the kitchen by Dave Barry, A Plague of Tics by David Sedaris. Both essays cover two
very different subjects Dave Barry s essay covers sexism as he chose Thanksgiving dinner prep
as the focus point so that he can point out how a simple family gathering is one the most sexist
events that happens throughout a year. While David Sedaris takes place in his youth, right
away you can tell that young David is plagued with severe OCD and not the cleaning kind. His
essay starts out with his teacher scolding him for licking the light switches in the classroom, and
he doesn t understand why he gets in trouble for it. Both essays are done very well and both are
connected by humor. Dave Barry on sexism and David Sedaris on mental illness but David
Sedairs s in my opinion is the better essay. Although Dave Barry covers sexism and he makes it
very humorous and has a lot of very strong points that happens every single day, and A Plague of
Tics by David Sedaris is like the retelling of a very sad childhood plagued by uncomfortable
moments, humiliation and urges that he cannot control and covers it up with humor. That is
why I choose A Plague of Tics by David Sedaris as the stronger essay even though Turkeys in the
Kitchen by Dave Barry is short sweet and to the point, and I understood exactly what he was
trying to say. A Plague of Tics by David Sedaris is long winded, over detailed and left me slightly
confused. Now David s essays takes place in 1967 in Raleigh, North Carolina normally third
graders are between the ages of eight and ten so the date is not exact. Young David is being
scolded by his teacher Miss Chestnut for getting up during class 28 times to lick the light
switch, pencil sharpener and among other things. She decides to send a note home with David
to tell his mother that she will be visiting to talk about his behavior. While this takes place, there
is another form of a power struggle going on inside a young David s head his OCD is whispering
to him that he needs to do abnormal things such as smack the heel of his shoe to his forehead.
Now back in the mid 1960s OCD had yet to be categorized as a mental disorder normally the

Middle School Curriculum Essay
Across the nation, urban school districts are trying to identify the most effective setting for sixth
graders: K 6, K 8 or 6 8 grade level configurations. The middle school configuration began in the
1950s and increased in popularity in the 1980s. The creation of middle schools was predicated on
the assumption that the middle grades are not a time for academic learning so much as the social
adjustment, individual growth coping with early adolescence, and looking out for the needs of the
whole child (Yecke, 2005).
The study of elementary school adolescent students and their successful transition to middle
school is an essential focus for the continued vitality of our educational system. This is evidenced
by the 3,700 middle school studies between the years of 1993 and 2001 as indicated by Hough,

Freedom In America
The United States of America is and has always been very close to realizing democracy s ideal
of a country where there is liberty and justice for all , though a number of factors have conspired
to move the country away from them in the past, and threaten to do so in our immediate future.
Though their outcomes have varied considerably over the years, the main factors causing the U.S
to stray from its ideals of freedom and equality have always been one or both of the following
factors discrimination and war. These factors are perennial, affecting every nation that has ever
existed and probably every nation that will exist, and our nation s reaction to them has been on par

One such factor is war. During World War I, the Espionage Act of 1917 was used to jail
prominent critics of American intervention in the war among them, Eugene V. Debs, four time
presidential candidate (Ball, 146). Shortly after the war ended, A. Mitchell Palmer used the
powers granted by the act to conduct mass arrests and deportation of hundreds of foreign
residents (Emert, 54, 55, 56). During World War II, the federal government forcibly relocated
thousands of Japanese Americans into what were essentially concentration camps (Cooper, 10,
11). The Japanese internment was implemented in the name of combating a virtually non
existent military threat, for fear that Americans of Japanese descent might aid the Empire of
Japan (Cooper, 63). After the September 11 attack on the World Trade Center in New York and
the Pentagon and the declaration of the War on Terror, the USA PATRIOT Act was hurriedly
conceived and passed into law (Ball, 38). Included in the law were provisions for roving wiretaps,
the sharing of information between criminal probes and intelligence agencies and secret searches
of private property in violation of the Constitution (Ball, 57, 74, 81). War has always been a major

The Giver Reflection
Imagine living in a world where everyone looks and acts almost exactly the same. Pain, fear,
war, and hatred has all been eliminated. This the society in the book The Giver by Lois Lowry. In
The Giver, the story is told by an eleven year old named Jonas. At the age of twelve, the children
receive their Assignments as a new adult of the community based on interests. Jonas receives the
Assignment as the Receiver of Memory. This is a highly honored Assignment. Jonas is different
from the others and with his Assignment, he learns things that he didn t know before. An old man
who he calls the Givertells him memories from the past, good and bad. By the things he learns
down the road, including that being released means being killed, Jonas tries and help a boy
named Gabriel. He is soon going to be released, so Jonas takes Gabriel and they leave their
community in hopes for a new town where the two of them can live because they are different
from the rest. In The Giver, Jonas image of a village was only a hallucination and they did not

physical boundaries of their society. Then it flickered suddenly, and he felt tiny tongues of heat
begin to creep across and into his frozen feet and legs. He felt his face begin to glow and the
tense, cold skin of his arms and hands relax. (Lowry 177). Jonas was escaping from his own
community. He was out in the freezing cold, starving, and about to reach death. The village was a
hallucination because he was trying to see a happy side of the situation. Jonas did not want to die,
but he knew he was, so he imagined the village as he was freezing to death. They end up, near
death, on a snow covered hill. At the summit, almost frozen and without hope, Jonas suddenly feels
joy and recognizes his whereabouts as the sledding hill of his dream. (Hanson). Jonas knows that
this is the end and he made himself think this hallucination because he knows that he wasn t
actually ever going to make it. In The

We ve never seen anything like this is the word increasingly heard in every part of the world in

over the past four decades. There have been observed 70% increase in damage by floods and

$2.5 trillion, almost 50% higher than previous international estimates. The economic losses from
disaster sometimes occur out of control and require partnership with private sector. The losses from

Many U.S. investors own shares of companies in other countries which can put investor at a risk
with natural threat associated with these areas. There has also been seen a significant effect on a
price of commodity after a disaster. For example, earthquake in Chile (2010) choked copper
market and results an increase in Copper price worldwide. With increase in price of a commodity,
there is an obvious decreased diminished margin left for industries. Scarcity rules and the price
inflation is then not just related to market goods but also makes its way to staples like food,

Analysis Of Maya Plisetskaya
The main purpose of this film is to tell the story of Russian ballerina Maya Plisetskaya. In other
words, the goal is to show her life during the period of time from the start of her dancing career in
1934 until her death in 2015. One of the biggest history aspects of the film will centralize on
how WWII and post war USSR have affected her career, individuality and personal life. Also, the
film will contain parts where people, who knew or worked with Maya Plisetskaya, will share
memories and their points of view on some of the events, shown in the film. Some of the people
are balletdancer and actor Mikhail Baryshnikov, Bolshoi Theatre director Vladimir Urin and
Plisetskaya s niece and ballet dancer Anna Plisetskaya.

To global incredulity, she was refused permission to appear at Covent Garden on the Bolshoi
Ballet s Western debut tour in 1956. However, Khrushchev soon realised that the charismatic
dancer would be better used in Soviet service. Maya Plisetskaya, he said, was not just the Soviet
Union s best ballerina, but also the best ballerina in the world. The next part is called Taking the
World . This part will start with a very interesting event that occurred in 1997. Suddenly it began to
rain during Plisetskaya s outdoor performance of The Dying Swan. However, the audience forgot to
open their umbrellas as they were fascinated by her show. Also, another remarkable thing
happened. A designer Pierre Cardin was a part of the audience that day, and at the end of the
show the ballerina and the designer were formally introduced. After their meeting, Cardin created
dance costumes and evening wear for Plisetskaya. Maya Plisetskaya had taken the world. She
was officially recognized as one of the greatest ballerinas. One of the most significant awards she

Critique of the Movie Tinker Tailor Solider Spy
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy: Critique of a Movie Review Introduction Oscar Season, so dubbed by
Hollywood executives and the media covering their world, is quickly approaching. Within the
illustrious group of nominees are those featured in the beautifully made cerebral film, Tinker
Tailor Soldier Spy. The film, which is a jewel of cinematic effort, is very much the opposite of
today s often found shallow comedies or horror films. This film, in its grasp, includes so much
of that which ought to be found in the art that is cinema. For this reason, and because of the
momentum the film has garnered following the leading actor s nomination for an Academy
Award, many have taken to commenting on Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. One such article is
presented below and will be both summarized and discussed in order to see just how the critic
world sees this film, and for what reason. Article Summary The article mentioned above is entitled
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is No Easy Watch and is written by Chris Krapek for the Huffington
Post. Krapek s main point in this particular critique of the film is that it is quite a difficult movie to
watch and understand. Krapek starts by offering his opinions on the film, including imagining many
individuals in his personal life scoffing at how boring the movie actually is. Then, Krapek offers a
summary of the film. Within this part, which takes up most of the article, the author expands upon
the main points of the film. These include,

The Men Behind the Scences of the Civil Rights Era Essay...
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. for millions of Americans is an iconic portrayal when discussing civil
rights and American democracy. His determination to change segregation through creative and
savvy ways to reach the public led to his stardom. However, there were many others who helped
during the civil rights era who do not get nearly as much praise as MLK Jr. Medgar Evers, James
Meredith, A Philip Randolph, Jesse Jackson are a few gentlemen that rarely received the magnitude
of media focus, popularity or scrutiny that the most charismatic civil rights leaders attracted. Instead
they played different positions either, making telephone calls, visiting numerous homes, organizing

History And Implementation Of Teacher Supervision And...
The History and Implementation of Teacher Supervision and Evaluation Hoskins (1987) advocated
that the process of teacher evaluation is multilayered and is affected by several complex and
continually changing variables. The evaluation of teachers classroom performance has evolved
tremendously over the last 100 years. Teacher evaluation has transformed along with emerging
research pertaining to the role of teachers, effective teaching, and theories of student learning (Ellett
Teddlie, 2003). Regardless of the changes and increased emphasis on national and state standards,
supervision and evaluation continue to be average at best and inadequate in assisting teachers to

These supervisors had nearly unrestricted authority to create criteria for effective teaching and to
hire and fire teachers (Burke Krey, 2005). The focus of teacher supervision and evaluation in the
early years of the United States and abroad consisted of irregular reviews of teacher s work
through direct observation by a traveling supervisor (Shinkfield Stufflebeam, 1995; Blumberg,
1985). Teacher supervision models date back to the 1840s, when common schools were spreading
across the United States. Laypeople supervised the schools while young unqualified teachers
educated students (Wirt Kirst, 2005). The only requirements for being a schoolmaster were the
ability to read and write and the physical strength or personal charm to manage even the largest
intransigent farm boy (Troen Boles, 2003). Circuit superintendents would journey to schools with
the intent of evaluating teachers and awarding teacher licenses (Blumberg, 1985). In the 1890s,
supervision was considered as an inspection to guarantee that curriculum was being followed and
that students were learning (Robinson, 2009). Local governments particularly in urban areas
exercised firm control over schools (Wirt Kirst, 2005). Ward politics within those systems viewed
teaching positions as spoils that belonged to the political party that won the election (Wirt Kirst,
2005). The mindset of the people was that through political

Using ethos pathos and logos in modern film
English 102 For this assignment, I ve chosen to analyze the movie, Gone Girl and television
show, The Office. Gone Girl, a movie still in theaters, stars Neil Patrick Harris and Ben Affleck
and is based off a 2012 book. The book, written by Gillian Flynn, has since been a New York
Times Best Seller. The Office was a television show spanning from 2005 2013 and earned
multiple awards. Both the book and movie are extremely graphic in nature, so the target audience
is geared more towards college students and beyond. I know this simply by the plot and R rating.
The story depicts Nick and Amy Dunne and their difficult marriage. Nick, played by Affleck,

Amy then seduces her former over, slits his throat, and heads back home with Nick. Amy claims
she was raped every day by Desi and killing was the only way out. But knowing the real truth,
Nick wants to leave Amy but is unable to after discovering that Amy is indeed pregnant. Without
telling her husband, she went to sperm bank having used sperm Nick stored. He reacts violently,
but decides to stay with Amy for the sake of the child. The Office has a wide range audience,
because unlike Good Girl, it s not a show graphic in nature. It s a funny show, about the struggles
of working at a failing paper company. Perhaps this show is suited for those in high school and
older. I miss watching this show with my parents, because they enjoyed it as much as I did. Like
Good Girl, this show utilizes ethos, pathos and logos. A good example of logos would be the
relationship between two co workers, Dwight Schrute and Jim Halpert. Dwight, a salesman,
wears glasses, parts his hair and wears a mustard colored short sleeve dress shirt and tie to work
every day. When he s not working, he enjoys growing beats on his 42 acre beat farm with his
cousin and watching Battlestar Galactica. To put it lightly, Dwight is a complete nerd. But Jim, on
the other hand, is the king of the office. Jim flirts with his female coworkers, enjoys playing sports,
complains about his job and dates the best looking women.

Time And Timeless Time
What Kenner fails to understand is Eliot is not having any superficial knowledge or understanding
of time and Timeless Time. He has a realisation that is more than just a glimpse. The moments of
intersection of Timeless Time and time have great significance in Eliot s poetry because the
consciousness of such moments comes when an individual is spiritually enlightened. He can
witness the source from which all time emerges and that source in itself is Eternal. The still point,
the Timelessness, the Divine, the Eteranl is the source. There is no other way with which an
individual can escape time and the suffering related to it. It is only Timeless Time that can liberate
an individual from time. Eternity is time s ultimate limit which in itself... Show more content on

Though he continued writing Poetic Dramas for many more years, but Four Quartets mark the
end of his regular poetry. He finished the Quartets on the peak of his spiritual realisation which
he tried to set as an example to be followed by the posterity. The last section of the Four Quartets
is considered as the greatest spiritual vision of Eliot. The very opening words Midwinter spring
does not signify any paradox that Eliot would relish but is symbolic of spiritual renewal and
revitalisation in midst of a spiritual barrenness caused by the World Wars. He felt the pressure of
the social and political events that were taking their toll on the psyche of the common man. Like
everyone else in this period, his life became one of monotony and anxiety, caught in the middle
period when pre war life seemed unreal and post war life unimaginable. (Ackroyd 1984: 264) The
interplay of the dualities is shown, but there is more of harmony in it than any kind of opposition.
There is an impossible union; the contraries like frost and fire are brought together to be resolved.

The Case Of Roe V. Wade
On January 23, 1973, the landmark case Roe v. Wade established a new law that would change
women s rights for years to come. This controversial case made it legal to have an abortion,
which made it safer for women around the country. In 1972, a year before Roe v. Wade, there
were approximately 587,000 illegal abortions performed (Roe v. Wade). These abortions were
highly dangerous because they lacked medical equipment and a trained professional. In some
instances, the mother could even die from the procedure. As a feminist, I believe women should
have the right to their own body and therefore I believe the government should keep the decision
of Roe v. Wade. In this paper, I will discuss the court case of Roe v. Wade, personal stories of

However, the Act does not cover medicine for a safe abortion. Businesses who provide
healthcare to their employees have purposely not included women s reproductive health because
of their views on abortion. If the owner or manager doesn t believe in abortion, they are more
likely not to include women s reproductive health on their health care, even though abortions are
not covered in the Act (Roe v. Wade and its Effects of Society). This means that female workers
are not provided with medical care they need because their manager disagrees with a choice not
provided in the Act that gives women basic health needs. To me, health care should be a right,
and not giving it to your employers because of your views is unconstitutional. If having an
abortion is legal, why does the government not cover it in health acts? Even 37 years later,
abortion is still a taboo subject that rears its ugly head in politics. Before abortions were legalized
in 1973, many women put it upon themselves to get rid of an unwanted pregnancy. Any illegal
abortion performed was a dangerous decision made by the mother. During the 1950 s an estimated
200,000 abortions took place illegally (The Impact of Illegal Abortion). There are many health risks
with having an illegal abortion including: severe bleeding, abdominal trauma, rupturing of the
uterus, and in some cases, even death. In 1972, a

Price is also a critical factor which influences international hotel chains promotional strategy. The
impact of price promotions needs to be carefully evaluated in the planning stage to protect core
revenue business and brand image (Bowie and Buttle 2004:169). Effectively, price is part of the
marketing mix. It has an impact on customer s international decision. According to Baker and
Angelopulo (2005:166), sales promotion is more or less effective depending on the price. For
example, Marriott on its website has a section dedicated to exceptional price. The objective of this
advertising is to encourage the customer to book as soon as possible. Then, earlier the customer
reserves more important the discount is. Customers need to reserve fifteen days before their stay
to get a 14% discount on their stays price. Customers go up to 30% with booking 30 days before
their stays.
The market or customers factors is the second part of the promotional strategy and plan referring to

Christ is sitting on top of a rock, holding a scepter in his left hand. This scepter is a symbol of
power and authority. There are two angels bringing crowns to Christ made of laurel flowers and
there is also an archangel bringing a vivid red cape for the lord. Right beside the angels you can
see the fire of hell in crimson and saffron bright colors. It is very easy to perceive the power that
Christ holds over all. Under his feet a snake seems to be slithering representing sin. Also beneath
him there is a skull representing death. The strengths for the painting are a perfect match between
the title and the artist representation. The background was made trying to get the attention of the
viewer in Christ and the objets around him, but it is almost impossible to describe the place. The
colors of the background are dark and out of focal point; what I think leaves up to the viewer
imagination to decide were it took place. It is very easy to understand the meaning of the painting
but I cannot make a real description of were it suppose to take place.
The idea of the painting seems to represent the difference between good and evil. It also seems to be
teaching us that in all situations goodness will persevere over evil. Peter Paul Ruben feeds us this
idea when he applies beaming active colors to the faces on the characters in the painting. He does
this in order to pull the observer into the overall theme of the piece.

Descriptive Essay About A Wedding
Growing up, one of my favorite movies to watch was Cinderella. It shows a classic fairy tale
wedding that almost every girl, including me, fantasizes about. Fortunately for me, I was given
an opportunity to be a part of one. It was 8 o clock in the morning on a fresh fall day. My mom
and I arrived at Ulta Beauty to meet with my sister to get our hair and makeup done. As soon as
we walked in I could smell the hairspray and saw all the makeup we had to choose from. I
choose to do a classic bun with a braid while my sister chose to do a loose bun with hair framing
her face. For our makeup, we both chose to do a classic fall, but light look. This consisted of
using Clinique foundation with a light orange eyeshadow and finishing the look with fake
eyelashes. Our next task of the day was to meet at the Best Western Hotel in New Ulm to get
ready. I put on my bridesmaid dress and assisted my sister with any final touch ups. She stepped
into her cinderella, lace, full, cream colored ball gown and I laced her up. My eyes have never
seen anything more gorgeous than her. She glistened like snow on a sunny day. To get more natural
and clear looking photos, the weddingparty headed downstairs to a room with natural lighting to
set up for pictures. Kara stood by the window while we all took turns fixing her veil, or buttoning
her dress, all while pictures were being taken. After an hour or so, we all made our way down to
German Park, where the wedding would take place. The park was

this to true yet here in the 21 century we still allow this. Ethnicity largely influences the quality of

men working full time, year round get paid an average of 75.3 percent comparable to caucasian
men, according to the U.S. Current Population Survey and the National Committee on Pay

Caucasians whom also have many substantial advantages at work. They are offered a substantially
larger variety of job opportunities and positions that earn more money and have more power. This
form of inequality exists in both gender and race. Though the pay gap has been reduced drastically
within the last few years, it still remains a very common form of inequality
I believe value is something only an individual can assign to their own life based on experience

themselves but to others as well but that value is higher than any amount of money existing.

In the 1930s, infant mortality because of bacterial meningitis caused by Haemophilus influenza
type B was almost at one hundred percent. But with the onset of antibiotics in the 1960s, the
mortality rate was reduced to a mere range of five to ten percent. Thirty percent of survivors
were often left with defects such as deafness, blindness, seizures, and mental retardation(Mark A.
Herbert, ed. Derek W. Hood, ed. E. Richard Moxon, ed. Haemophilus influenza Protocols ,
29?30). Anyone can carry the bacterium. The bacteria are found dormant in the back of their nose
and throat. Though they are dormant in the carrier, the carrier can still pass them on to another
person through ways such as: kissing, coughing, sneezing, sharing a cup, utensil, lip gloss, or
cigarette. In other words, through the exchange of respiratory and throat secretions. Some of these
ways of transmission are the core reasons as to why this disease is more prevalent in children under
five years of age (Common Bacterial Hib).
Streptococcus pneumoniae is a gram positive bacterium that is a normal inhabitant of the human
respiratory tract. This bacterium is present in the nasopharyngeal region of five to ten percent of
healthy adults and twenty to forty percent of healthy children and causes no harm to the individuals
whatsoever. But it can attack the body by escaping the host?s defenses and phagocytic mechanisms
through choroid plexus seeding from bacterium or through direct extension

Negative and Positive Liberty Essay
Negative and positive liberty are best understood as distinct values within Berlin s own scheme of
value pluralism. While an increase in either is desirable, ceteris paribus, attempting to maximize
any single idea of liberty without regard to any other values necessarily entails absurd and clearly
undesirable conclusions; any sensible idea of jointly maximizing freedom in general, therefore,
must acknowledge the tradeoffs inherent in increasing one aspect of freedom or another. The
tension here is akin to the familiar tradeoff between equity and efficiency concerns in economics;
negative and positive freedom are not diametrically opposed, but the two ideals may not be
individually maximized at the same time.
Berlin defines an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Any meaningful acknowledgement of the merits of negative liberty requires that some minimal area
of control be left to private, individual actors.
On the other hand, Berlin claims that negative freedom is not, in any logically prior sense,
connected with democracy or self government (177). While acknowledging that self government
may happen to best preserve negative liberty in practice when compared to alternative regimes,
Berlin notes that there exists no a priori reason to believe this should necessarily be the case. In
other words, even if we explicitly grant that society s goal should be to maximize negative liberty,
the optimality of democracy is not guaranteed by any sound line of reasoning. Thus, selection of the
most befitting governance structure is subject to scrutiny as an empirical issue.
By contrast, the positive sense of the word liberty derives from the [individual s] wish ... to be his
own master (178). Exponents of positive liberty focus on internal factors rather than external
actors by painting the self as essentially divided, typically into a higher and lower self. The higher
of these selves, distinguished perhaps by rationality or length of outlook, represents in some sense
the true realization of an individual s potential, nature, or entity. This being is marked by
possessing full self consciousness, bearing full responsibility for one s choices, and not being a
slave to one s nature or unbridled

Example Of Perspective Analysis
Perspective is defined as a point of view. From perspective, views can be altered, opinions can be
created, and lives can be changed. Throughout the literature that we have read this school year,
perspective is a cause of the all the conflicts. Perspective is the way that a person views a
situation or another person, which leads to a positive or negative relationship. When opinions
in novels conflict, the views are significantly altered. For instance, in the novel Speak, after
Melinda Sordino called the police to rescue her from the party, I called 911 because I needed
help, (Anderson 136), the views on Melinda were completely changed causing her middle school
lab partners or gym buddies [to] glare at [her], (3). Only because she called the police, her entire
school completely detested her and despised being in the same vicinity as her. After losing all of

For instance, when the British officer in the novel Lord of the Flies, found the young boys on the
island, he claims that their experience on the island was entirely fun and games, creating the
opinion that they were only immature boys who saw being trapped on the island as a fun
adventure. Also because Jack and Ralph s perspective towards being on the island were completely
different, negative opinions of each other emerged. Jack wanted to hunt for pigs while Ralph s
main goal was to figure out the way off of the island. The conflict between goals was the drive or
motive for the vicious and murderous attacks between the two groups. Another way that
perspective was able to create opinions was when Carton confessed his unconditional love for
Lucie to Lucie. Her perspective of Carton being a write off, was changed because she now
understood that there was more to Sydney Carton than what he actually let on. Through
perspective, more information and reason is added to the conflict between the

Lgbt History And The Modern Era
There are many topics prevalent shown throughout history. History books in today s society
highlight the majority of groups of people and historical events. This essay will prove that there is
a problematic issue where LGBT lives and existences are being erased throughout history and the
modern era. Throughout, it will be explained how these groups of people are being
underrepresented within history, major wars, and the modern era.
History covers a very broad spectrum of time, with recorded history going as far back as five
thousand years. Yet, within this period of five thousand years, history books implemented in school
systems rarely give detail to LGBT people (Carter, It s Time to Write LGBT History into the
Textbooks ). For example, within America, homosexualityhas been shown throughout Native
American tribes long before Europeans even stepped foot onto the land. While traditional
European beliefs define a person s sexual identity male or female based on biological
determination, Native American s have a vast variety of how sexuality is viewed. Native
Americans believed the Creator created three different genders; males, females and two spirits,
following the Plato model of roles. Gender roles and gender identity mirrored one another, each
containing their own magical attributes according to lore. While gender identity defined Native
American gender roles, their expectations for the two spirits differed. Native American ideology
welcomed a third gender and openly

Gene Expression in Eukaryotes
Gene expression in eukaryotes can be broken down into three stages. These stages include
Transcription, RNA processing, and Translation. These steps are similar to gene expression in
prokaryotes but RNA processing is specific to gene expression in eukaryotes.
Transcription
Transcription happens in the cell nucleus. This is where DNA can be found. For example you can
use DNA as instructions to make certain things such as proteins, but, these instructions are in a
different language and you do not understand them, so the workers that will eventually assemble
them cannot work with them. This is where mRNA will come into play. The mRNA will provide
the workers or cells with new instructions that will be used to build the protiens. In transcription
DNA is unzipped and the enzyme RNA polymerase RNA polymerase binds to the promoter region.
This starts the unwinding of the DNA strands, and the polymerase starts RNA synthesis which runs
along the template strand of the DNA. In eukaryotic cells proteins called transcription factors bind
to promoters that include a TATA box, 25 nucleotides upstream from the start of transcription. After,
more transcription factors will bind to the DNA, together with RNA polymerase II, forming the
transcription initiation complex.
The second step of transcription is the process of elongation. This is where the polymerase moves
downstream while it unwinds the DNA and elongates the RNA from 5 to 3 . As the RNA synthesis
continues downstream the new

Professional Writing in Computer Science Essay
A Computer Software Engineer develops software systems to be used by their clients, such as a
website used to sell the client s products. Although software engineers spend the majority of their
time programming and testing the software, a key component to the success of a software engineer
is the ability to write a thorough Software Requirement Specification (SRS). A SRS documents the

This review and evolution process is repeated as many times as needed, until the final Formal Spec
is produced, or the SRS. Then programming can begin. The process of writing a requirements
specification usually requires frequent communications between the developer and the client,
keeping the structure of the specification clear and the statements or expressions used readable is
therefore crucial (Lui et al.). Consequences and Time Spent The reason that a SRS is needed
should be rather obvious; if the requirements aren t written down, how do the software engineers
know what to program, and how does the client know what to expect? (Berezin) However, the
SRS is often times skipped, or written at a very high level, lacking enough detail. Taking the user
requirements and writing them into specifications is considered to be one of the most difficult
steps in software development, and therefore engineers frequently attempt to bypass this step. It is
also very time consuming are the engineers wasting their time writing the SRS when they should
be programming? In discussing this with Cheryl Lindauer, the Corporate Development Manager at
Shoe Carnival, the answer is an outstanding NO! The best investment any company can make is to
write detailed SRS documents for every project, before beginning any coding. If we are in a time

College Essay On Skin Cancer
One of the amazing facts you would have probably learned about the human body as a kid was
that our skin is our largest organ. Our skin is covers reach of our body, and it is maybe the most
pleasing organ to our eyes as we would most likely look like masses of fibrous muscles and fat
without it. It also serves another purpose besides covering up all the nasty and messy inner guts
of our bodies. We may not be able breath solely through our skin like an amphibian, but its
purpose key to our ability to live. Our skins protects us the major factor in our environments,
changes according to those factors and ultimately affects our overall health at an individual level.
Without a doubt if we did not have the adaptions our skin has developed over thousands of the
years, our environment would have killed us. This did does not mean they still cannot kill us. Of
the dangerous things that are passively out to destroy us, the sunis impossible to avoid. The sun

Melanin is the darkening pigment in the skin and with its level of concentration it will determine
the color of the individual s skin. (Larsen 117) The higher the amount of melanin in the skin the

The amounts of melanin an individual may produce depend of their geographic origin. At the
equator is the strongest amount of direct sunlight, and as you move away from the equator the less
it becomes. This means that people are originate from near the equator are darker skinned and the
more you move away the lighter skin becomes. Darker skinned people therefore have the best
ability to endure the ultraviolent radiation. This ability is rated as sun protection factor, which is

These ammendents included, among other things, the introduction of a non union/collective
bargaining system in the form of Enterprise Flexibility Agreements. The intention of the 1993
Industrial Relations Reform Act, for example, was to make enterprise bargaining the main process
for determining wages and other conditions of employment. Awards continued to provide effective
regulation for employees who were not enjoying the benefits of enterprise bargaining, even if
award wages rose slowly and fell well behind wage increases in enterprise agreements (Bray etc al,
2006). The Business Council of Australia s strong support for enterprise bargaining and for a
weakened role for arbitration tribunals gradually became the mainstream position among most
Australian employers, even among those who had previously supported centralized bargaining
(Thornthwaite and Sheldon, 1996). This was the first time in history, in which the unions were
excluded from having any involvement in all forms of agreement in relations to employment
conditions in the federal jurisdiction. It was at the time of this introduction that it became evident
that these agreements would allow employers to begin to de unionise their operations and to
accelerate their move towards a non union status. The most radical industrial relations reforms of
the past 20 or so years was brought in soon after the election of the Howard government in 1996.

Study Of Bee Colony Optimization Algorithms For Their...
A Novel Study of Bee Colony Optimization Algorithms for their Applications into Various Domains
INTRODUCTION The Bee Colony Optimization (BCO) is a technique based on the mutual
understanding of the natural bees in food foraging process. It is a population based search
algorithm for optimizing numerical problems. Bees are classic example of teamwork experience,
coordination and synchronization. The way they work is remarkable. They carry out a kind of
neighborhood search combined with global search by mimic the food foraging behavior. The
foraging strategy of Bees is used to look for the best solution to an optimization problem. In this
process each candidate solution is considered as food source and a population of Bees is used to
search solution space. At each and every instant a Bee visits a source it evaluates its profitability. It
allows meaningful generalization to optimize various problems by recognizing a profitable
solution to complex engineering problems. It provides an adequate conceptual framework as well
as a mathematical tool to depict the real world problems in an optimized way. It is one of the well
know techniques with its successful applications in various domains. Bee colony optimization
technique is recommended above other means of optimizations because it provides clarity and
errors in case of optimal solutions. This algorithm can also be analyzed as a path structuring
algorithm that structure the path from one source to another tracing the

He claims that the imagination is idolatrous to the extent that it worships its own imitations instead
of the divine original (Kearney, 1994:95). Though a paradox does appear when Plato says that
certain quot;thought images quot; are allowed if their purpose is to further human understanding or
in an attempt to share or gain knowledge.
The Modern
The modern view was a complete reversal to the old and saw the imagination as the only source of
true knowledge. Konigsberg stated that he imagination was the root to both understanding and
sensation (Kearney, 1994:157). Kant too believed that imagination, and therefore that which is
created out of imagination (like art), ceases to be a copy of a copy of a copy, but instead becomes
the ultimate original. Modern artists believed in the beauty of the object as its original self, the
sense of freedom that the imagination enjoys while beholding it. This implies that the goal of art is
in fact the artistic experience itself. (Kearney, 1994:172) The art can then be seen as an original
quot;second nature quot; and not an imitation of the quot;first quot;. It is a new creation simply
transforming the appearances of the previous creations (Kearney, 1994:173).
The Postmodern
The Postmodern interpretation then returns to the belief that all

  • 2. Essay South Beach Diet South Beach Diet The South Beach Diet is a relatively new weight loss diet. It was developed by Miami cardiologist Arthur Agatston, M.D., who is the director of the Mount Sinai Cardiac Prevention Center. The diet is meant to promote weight loss but not at the expense of heart health. Unlike other wildly popular low carb plans, South Beach calls for keeping tabs on saturated fats and favors lean meats and proteins over bacon, cheeseburgers, and steaks. With this diet there is no calorie counting. In fact, there is no actual diet plan per se. Agatston uses sample menus to outline what you need to eat. Lists of foods to enjoy and foods to avoid round out the plan. Basically it adds up to three meals a day ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Phase 2 Lasts Until You Reach Your Weight Loss Goal More Liberal Phase The second phase is similar to the first phase, but you reintroduce some of the banned foods and eat from all the dietary food groups. You can start eating high fiber carbohydrates, such as whole grain breads, which raise your insulin levels in a much milder way that do simple, starchy carbs. Additional Diet Foods to Enjoy: include, most fruits, fat free or 1 percent milk, other low fat dairy foods, whole grain starches, barley and pinto beans and red wine. Diet foods to eat sparingly, include: refined wheat baked goods, potatoes, beets, carrots, bananas, pineapple, watermelon and honey. Expected Weight Loss: 1 2 pounds per week. • 3. Edgar Hoover s Accomplishments J. Edgar Hoover, born January 1st 1895, was the director of the FBI from 1924 until his death in 1972. In this paper I will be discussing J. Edgar Hoover s childhood, the timeline of his career, and his legacy. Hoover lived in Washington, D.C. his whole life. He was born in a white, Protestant, middle class neighborhood (PBS.org) called Seward Square, few blocks behind the Capitol. His family had been civil servants for generations . (PBS.org) His dad, Dickerson Naylor Hoover, worked for the Coast Guard. Hoover was closest to his mother, Annie. She was the disciplinarian and moral guide of the family. He lived with her until she died in 1938 when he was 43 years old. Hoover was very competitive as a child. To overcome a stuttering problem, he taught himself to speak fast, earning the nickname Speed, and then decided to join the high school debate team.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1914, Hoover was assistant in the alien registration. In 1916, He earned his bachelor of laws and just one year later he earned his master of laws in 1917. He was named assistant to attorney general in 1918, and the following year he was appointed head of General Intelligence Division (also known as the Radical Division because its goal was to monitor and disrupt the work of domestic radicals) (1919). On January 2nd 1920 Hoover organized raids to be carried out in 3 different cities. At least 3000 were arrested. The raids took place in 30 cities and towns in 23 states. In 1921, he was named assistant director of the bureau of investigation. By 1924 he was named bureau director by attorney general harlan stone. When he took over as the director of the FBI, it had about 650 agents, and when counted again in 1970 ( 2 years before he died) there were 10,000 agents. • 4. Federal Information Security Management Act Federal Information Security Management Act (F.I.S.M.A.) As government agencies began to realize that their corporate and customer information was not as private and as safe as they had advertised, they called upon The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to construct a set of guideline to control and protect information security. The growing need to safeguard such information caused agencies, particularly government agencies, to seek assistance collectively to avoid security breach escalations. A September 2000 Report to the Chairman, Subcommittee on Government Management, Information and Technology, Committee on Government Reform, House of Representatives: Information Security Serious and Widespread Weaknesses Persist at Federal Agencies concluded the following: Evaluations of computer security published since July 1999 continue to show that federal computer security is fraught with weaknesses and that, as a result, critical operations and assets continue to be at risk. As in 1998, our current analysis identified significant weaknesses in each of the 24 agencies covered by our review. Since July 1999, the range of weaknesses in individual agencies has broadened, at least in part because the scope of audits being performed is more comprehensive than in prior years. While these audits are providing a more complete picture of the security problems agencies face, they also show that agencies have much work to do to ensure that their security programs are ... • 5. Justice In Fury Fury is the latest movie from director David Ayer, who also directed the films: End of Watch, Sabotage, and Street Kings. Fury is defined as a wild or violent anger, or a spirit of punishment from Greek Mythology. After seeing this movie, I now have a slightly different interpretation. I now define fury as the uncontrollable rage of anger from a righteous man attempting to achieve justice for the lost and the departed. In Fury a 5 man Sherman tank unit from the United States embarks on a mission into Germany during World War II to protect a supply line from an advancing Nazi SS unit on a collision course with them. The M4 Sherman Tank was rushed into production in October 1941 as a response to the fall of France in only a matter of weeks to Germany s Nazi soldiers. At this time the U.S. had fallen behind in tank technology, as no immediate threat seemed imminent to the U.S. after World War I. The design of the Sherman tank emphasized speed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is where Private Norman, brought to fragile life by Logan Lerman (Noah, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, and The Perks of Being a Wallflower), is assigned to be the new assistant driver for Fury. Norman has only been in the army for 8 weeks, has never been inside of a tank, or killed a single enemy in combat. Fury s strength comes from her crew having been together the longest. They think, act, and battle as one; but now Norman is about to put all of that into jeopardy. The strength of the movie is not in the vast and beautiful landscapes of Europe; it is not in the highly visual battle scenes and the raw presentation of war; but it is in the fact that people when faced with insurmountable odds must band together as brothers and do the impossible. This process is typically painful, just like the birth of a child; but after all of the screaming stops, something pure and beautiful can be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Communism In America In the words of Abraham Lincoln, Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves. Freedom has been a topic of many meetings of Congress over the past few centuries, as it is one of the main American ideals that formed our great nation. However, in the last seventy years, there have been many attacks upon the American people that instill fear in the hearts of many. Fear in a large group of people leads to rash decisions that could eventually precipitate the loss of the common man s freedom. Losing freedom due to fear shies away from all of the traditional American ideals of our forefathers, one of which was opportunity and freedom of the common man. In the late 1940s and the early 1950s, United Statescitizens were left in tumult when they caught wind of the impending shadow of communism. This was the Red Scare, a period of time many people today use when describing mass hysteria and scapegoating. Communism in America... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The legalization of gay marriage has been a controversial issue in many state courts since the mid 1970s. Gay marriage scares many people because it strays from the norms of heterosexual relationships. Traditional American ideals have become a part of culture and society that everyone, regardless of sexual orientation, or race, or gender, expect to have as a basic human rights. Several times in history these have been identified as inalienable rights. One of the expected rights of many American citizens is the right to choose who they love, who they marry, and how they live their day to day life. When heterosexual Americans were introduced to the idea of same sex marriage, they became afraid that it would taint the minds of the young members of the community, since homosexualty was and still is frowned upon in the community. Thus, the homosexual community s opportunity to freely choose how to live their life is taken ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Land Of Opportunity By Loewen Millennials form the majority of the United States population, outnumbering Baby Boomers by eleven million. Higher education is now more crucial for securing a middle class lifestyle than ever before, yet for the majority, the cost for a bachelor s degree has become prohibitively expensive. In The Land of Opportunity , Loewen contends that high school education methodically avoids a critical dialogue of socioeconomic inequality in America. The social classto which a student belongs greatly influences their capacity for upward mobility. If higher educationis a requirement for improved economic status, then students in the lower class are already disadvantaged. Loewen quotes Theodore Sizer, If you are the child of low income parents, the chances are good that you will receive limited and often careless attention from adults in your high school (qtd. in Loewen, 203). High school students cannot look to the classroom to prepare them for real world power dynamics. If left to their own devices, adolescents may be influenced by skewed allegories in fictional entertainment media. Parents must use educational resources to prompt critical thinking about socioeconomic inequality in order to prepare America s youth for securing their futures. Though there may be little to no exposure to these ideas in the classroom, students will encounter them as they consume mass entertainment media. Social class disparity has long been a reoccurring theme in film. Adolescents and young adults ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Exploring the Schema Theory of Learning Essay Theories of Learning Schema Theory Overview: Schema Theory is part of the cognitive theories of learning module and deals with how the brain processes new knowledge (Chalmers, 2003). Schemata are packets of prior knowledge that have been stored in a learner s memory. Each learner has developed schemata that are based on prior experience and knowledge. Learners seek to connect new information with prior knowledge and use generalizations to assist in organization of information. Schema Theory is focused on conceptual learning and states that knowledge seeks organization in order to develop meaning (Anderson, 1984). Contributors: Major contributors to Schema Theory include Frederic Bartlett, Jean Piaget, Richard C. Anderson, Marvin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This meaning is interrelated to prior knowledge and/or experience. Without a schema to which an event can be assimilated, learning is slow and uncertain (Anderson, 1984, pg. 5). Knowledge that does is not easily connected with previous schemata may undergo a form of schema evolution or be discarded (Rumelhart Norman, 1980). Thus, development of new schemata or expanding of existing schemata relies heavily on a learner s prior knowledge. Application: Schema Theory s application in the learning environment can be seen in a variety of ways in the learning environment. Schema Theory relies heavily on building connections to prior learning. Therefore, it is crucial to employ teaching to expand learner s general knowledge and concepts in order to provide a base for schematic connections. Teachers can be seen reminding students of what they already know in order to build on previous knowledge and help make connections to new ideas. However, teachers must understand that not all learner s schemata are the same. A method of instruction that has its roots in Schema Theory and is often used in learning environments is concept mapping. Concept mapping allows students to build on their previous knowledge by connecting a cluster of concepts to a memory that is already encoded. Another way teachers often tap into schemata theory is by focusing on skill based learning rather than rote memorization. By ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Saint Mary the Blessed Virgin, Saint Mary of Magdala, Saint Faith of Conques, Saint Agnes of Rome, Saint Bridget of Kildare, Saint Adela, Saint Rosalia (known as The little saint ), Saint Maria Goretti, and Mother Teresa of Calcutta are all examples of such women. The infinity feelings are the source of all human striving, and is normal among us all. It is brought about as soon as we are born, as we must compensate for our lack of size or independence. The greatest example I can give of the inferiority feeling happened two days ago with the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. Abdellatif Baka of Algeria won the T13 1500m final on Monday night in a stunning performance that not only set a new Paralympic world record, but stands as the fastest 1500m time recorded by an able bodied or disabled athlete in Rio over both the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The more helpless children feel, the less they dare to rebel against their parents. She also dwelled on anxiety which she called basic anxiety. Basic anxiety is a pervasive feeling of loneliness and helplessness, that becomes the foundation for neurosis. In childhood we try to protect ourselves against basic anxiety by securing affection, being submissive, attaining power, and by withdrawing. These self protective mechanisms serve the one goal of defending basic anxiety. Karen also developed a list of ten neurotic needs. A neurotic need is an irrational defense against anxiety that becomes a permanent part of personality and affects behavior. Both essays cover two very different subjects Dave Barry s essay covers sexism as he chose Thanksgiving dinner prep as the focus point so that he can point out how a simple family gathering is one the most sexist events that happens throughout a year. While David Sedaris takes place in his youth, right away you can tell that young David is plagued with severe OCD and not the cleaning kind. His essay starts out with his teacher scolding him for licking the light switches in the classroom, and he doesn t understand why he gets in trouble for it. Both essays are done very well and both are connected by humor. Dave Barry on sexism and David Sedaris on mental illness but David Sedairs s in my opinion is the better essay. Although Dave Barry covers sexism and he makes it very humorous and has a lot of very strong points that happens every single day, and A Plague of Tics by David Sedaris is like the retelling of a very sad childhood plagued by uncomfortable moments, humiliation and urges that he cannot control and covers it up with humor. That is why I choose A Plague of Tics by David Sedaris as the stronger essay even though Turkeys in the Kitchen by Dave Barry is short sweet and to the point, and I understood exactly what he was trying to say. A Plague of Tics by David Sedaris is long winded, over detailed and left me slightly confused. The middle school configuration began in the 1950s and increased in popularity in the 1980s. The creation of middle schools was predicated on the assumption that the middle grades are not a time for academic learning so much as the social adjustment, individual growth coping with early adolescence, and looking out for the needs of the whole child (Yecke, 2005). The study of elementary school adolescent students and their successful transition to middle school is an essential focus for the continued vitality of our educational system. The Japanese internment was implemented in the name of combating a virtually non existent military threat, for fear that Americans of Japanese descent might aid the Empire of Japan (Cooper, 63). After the September 11 attack on the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon and the declaration of the War on Terror, the USA PATRIOT Act was hurriedly conceived and passed into law (Ball, 38). The focus of teacher supervision and evaluation in the early years of the United States and abroad consisted of irregular reviews of teacher s work through direct observation by a traveling supervisor (Shinkfield Stufflebeam, 1995; Blumberg, 1985). Teacher supervision models date back to the 1840s, when common schools were spreading across the United States. Laypeople supervised the schools while young unqualified teachers educated students (Wirt Kirst, 2005). The only requirements for being a schoolmaster were the ability to read and write and the physical strength or personal charm to manage even the largest intransigent farm boy (Troen Boles, 2003). Circuit superintendents would journey to schools with the intent of evaluating teachers and awarding teacher licenses (Blumberg, 1985). Local governments particularly in urban areas exercised firm control over schools (Wirt Kirst, 2005). Gone Girl, a movie still in theaters, stars Neil Patrick Harris and Ben Affleck and is based off a 2012 book. The book, written by Gillian Flynn, has since been a New York Times Best Seller. The Office was a television show spanning from 2005 2013 and earned multiple awards. Both the book and movie are extremely graphic in nature, so the target audience is geared more towards college students and beyond. I know this simply by the plot and R rating. The story depicts Nick and Amy Dunne and their difficult marriage. Nick, played by Affleck, comes home from work one morning to see his living room glass table shattered, blood... The Office has a wide range audience, because unlike Good Girl, it s not a show graphic in nature. It s a funny show, about the struggles of working at a failing paper company. Perhaps this show is suited for those in high school and older. I miss watching this show with my parents, because they enjoyed it as much as I did. Like Good Girl, this show utilizes ethos, pathos and logos. A good example of logos would be the relationship between two co workers, Dwight Schrute and Jim Halpert. April is autism awareness month, and because i work with children who are on the autism spectrum my school and i decided to take the whole month april and spread awareness. My entire sight wore blue for april we made signs and put them up throughout the school, sense we share schools with a Gen Ed school. The school also wrote a letter to the news and we took a photo with signs and banners that the kids helped to make. In doing all this with my site and seeing how much fun we had doing this, spreading this cause, i decided to take this same idea and use it towards my project. ! Now that we understand where the idea came from i can now talk about the efforts that went into this project. This part of the project became a little tricky because of the abundance of information that there is on this topic, but also because often times the websites you ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. The Case Of Roe V. Wade On January 23, 1973, the landmark case Roe v. Wade established a new law that would change women s rights for years to come. This controversial case made it legal to have an abortion, which made it safer for women around the country. In 1972, a year before Roe v. Wade, there were approximately 587,000 illegal abortions performed (Roe v. Wade). These abortions were highly dangerous because they lacked medical equipment and a trained professional. In some instances, the mother could even die from the procedure. As a feminist, I believe women should have the right to their own body and therefore I believe the government should keep the decision of Roe v. Wade. Businesses who provide healthcare to their employees have purposely not included women s reproductive health because of their views on abortion. If the owner or manager doesn t believe in abortion, they are more likely not to include women s reproductive health on their health care, even though abortions are not covered in the Act (Roe v. Wade and its Effects of Society). This means that female workers are not provided with medical care they need because their manager disagrees with a choice not provided in the Act that gives women basic health needs. To me, health care should be a right, and not giving it to your employers because of your views is unconstitutional. If having an abortion is legal, why does the government not cover it in health acts? Even 37 years later, abortion is still a taboo subject that rears its ugly head in politics. Before abortions were legalized in 1973, many women put it upon themselves to get rid of an unwanted pregnancy. Any illegal abortion performed was a dangerous decision made by the mother. During the 1950 s an estimated 200,000 abortions took place illegally (The Impact of Illegal Abortion). This scepter is a symbol of power and authority. There are two angels bringing crowns to Christ made of laurel flowers and there is also an archangel bringing a vivid red cape for the lord. Right beside the angels you can see the fire of hell in crimson and saffron bright colors. It is very easy to perceive the power that Christ holds over all. Under his feet a snake seems to be slithering representing sin. Also beneath him there is a skull representing death. The strengths for the painting are a perfect match between the title and the artist representation. The background was made trying to get the attention of the viewer in Christ and the objets around him, but it is almost impossible to describe the place. The colors of the background are dark and out of focal point; what I think leaves up to the viewer imagination to decide were it took place. It is very easy to understand the meaning of the painting but I cannot make a real description of were it suppose to take place. The idea of the painting seems to represent the difference between good and evil. It also seems to be teaching us that in all situations goodness will persevere over evil. • 33. Descriptive Essay About A Wedding Growing up, one of my favorite movies to watch was Cinderella. It shows a classic fairy tale wedding that almost every girl, including me, fantasizes about. Fortunately for me, I was given an opportunity to be a part of one. It was 8 o clock in the morning on a fresh fall day. My mom and I arrived at Ulta Beauty to meet with my sister to get our hair and makeup done. As soon as we walked in I could smell the hairspray and saw all the makeup we had to choose from. I choose to do a classic bun with a braid while my sister chose to do a loose bun with hair framing her face. For our makeup, we both chose to do a classic fall, but light look. This consisted of using Clinique foundation with a light orange eyeshadow and finishing the look with fake eyelashes. Our next task of the day was to meet at the Best Western Hotel in New Ulm to get ready. I put on my bridesmaid dress and assisted my sister with any final touch ups. She stepped into her cinderella, lace, full, cream colored ball gown and I laced her up. My eyes have never seen anything more gorgeous than her. She glistened like snow on a sunny day. To get more natural and clear looking photos, the weddingparty headed downstairs to a room with natural lighting to set up for pictures. While an increase in either is desirable, ceteris paribus, attempting to maximize any single idea of liberty without regard to any other values necessarily entails absurd and clearly undesirable conclusions; any sensible idea of jointly maximizing freedom in general, therefore, must acknowledge the tradeoffs inherent in increasing one aspect of freedom or another. The tension here is akin to the familiar tradeoff between equity and efficiency concerns in economics; negative and positive freedom are not diametrically opposed, but the two ideals may not be individually maximized at the same time. Berlin defines an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Any meaningful acknowledgement of the merits of negative liberty requires that some minimal area of control be left to private, individual actors. On the other hand, Berlin claims that negative freedom is not, in any logically prior sense, connected with democracy or self government (177). While acknowledging that self government may happen to best preserve negative liberty in practice when compared to alternative regimes, Berlin notes that there exists no a priori reason to believe this should necessarily be the case. In other words, even if we explicitly grant that society s goal should be to maximize negative liberty, the optimality of democracy is not guaranteed by any sound line of reasoning. Thus, selection of the most befitting governance structure is subject to scrutiny as an empirical issue. By contrast, the positive sense of the word liberty derives from the [individual s] wish ... to be his own master (178). Exponents of positive liberty focus on internal factors rather than external actors by painting the self as essentially divided, typically into a higher and lower self. The higher of these selves, distinguished perhaps by rationality or length of outlook, represents in some sense the true realization of an individual s potential, nature, or entity. Jack wanted to hunt for pigs while Ralph s main goal was to figure out the way off of the island. These steps are similar to gene expression in prokaryotes but RNA processing is specific to gene expression in eukaryotes. Transcription Transcription happens in the cell nucleus. This is where DNA can be found. For example you can use DNA as instructions to make certain things such as proteins, but, these instructions are in a different language and you do not understand them, so the workers that will eventually assemble them cannot work with them. This is where mRNA will come into play. The mRNA will provide the workers or cells with new instructions that will be used to build the protiens. In transcription DNA is unzipped and the enzyme RNA polymerase RNA polymerase binds to the promoter region. This starts the unwinding of the DNA strands, and the polymerase starts RNA synthesis which runs along the template strand of the DNA. In eukaryotic cells proteins called transcription factors bind to promoters that include a TATA box, 25 nucleotides upstream from the start of transcription. After, more transcription factors will bind to the DNA, together with RNA polymerase II, forming the transcription initiation complex. The second step of transcription is the process of elongation. This is where the polymerase moves downstream while it unwinds the DNA and elongates the RNA from 5 to 3 . As the RNA synthesis continues downstream the new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Background information on Radio shack and CEO General wireless Operations, Inc. known as RadioShack, was founded in 1921 in Boston by two brothers and it is known as an American chain of wireless and electronic stores. Theodore and Milton started the company with the aim of providing an equipment for the then nascent field of amateur, or ham radio, to supply the needs of radio officers aboard ships as well as hams (amateur radio operators). RadioShack Corporation is known as a leading consumer electronics retailer and they are based in Fort Worth, Texas operating about 7,000 company owned and dealer stores, they are majorly into supply of electronics from computers to cellphones, and they make them as well. In 1994, Leonard Roberts was the president of RadioShack, David Edmondson wrote a letter to the president about his brilliant ideas, they both had a good relationship along the line, Roberts agreed and offered him a job but the mistake Leonard Roberts did was not investigating thoroughly about his academics career and achievement. Edmondson joined RadioShack in November 1994 as Vice President of Marketing. David Edmondson worked so hard to promote the core strengths of RadioShack and he was promoted in May 2005 as the President and CEO of RadioShack, he believed that with more than 35,000 employees and 7,000 neighborhood stores, RadioShack ... Dunn Feminism and The Handmaid s Tale: Web. 1 P332 (2009) The Salem Press Salem Literature Web. 16 November 2012 Dunn believes that the handmaids tale is a story which one women defines the oppression of many. The narrator though unreliable at times tells a story of dystopia. The unreliable narrator may at times discredit the validity of some of the feminine view points through out the story. Dunn feels that economic independence is crucial and when Offred s rights begin to be plucked away one by one the shift of society is blatant for all to see. Women become second hand citizens who are indistinguishable between their own groups, yet they are still ranked among themselves. Uniforms play a critical role in striping the women from their former selves. They become merely Handmaid s, Martha s Wives, and Econowives. While there is separation between the groups the women are dressed to be exactly the same within their groups. Women essentially lose their identity. Women are separated yet again amongst their groups. The regime in place has spies all over, and woman and men alike work for the group called The Eyes. It is hard to tell who they can trust and who they can t. This is the perfect situation for the regime, for if the group can not unite they will never be able to over ... • 50. Study Of Bee Colony Optimization Algorithms For Their... A Novel Study of Bee Colony Optimization Algorithms for their Applications into Various Domains INTRODUCTION The Bee Colony Optimization (BCO) is a technique based on the mutual understanding of the natural bees in food foraging process. It is a population based search algorithm for optimizing numerical problems. Bees are classic example of teamwork experience, coordination and synchronization. The way they work is remarkable. They carry out a kind of neighborhood search combined with global search by mimic the food foraging behavior. The foraging strategy of Bees is used to look for the best solution to an optimization problem. In this process each candidate solution is considered as food source and a population of Bees is used to search solution space. At each and every instant a Bee visits a source it evaluates its profitability. It allows meaningful generalization to optimize various problems by recognizing a profitable solution to complex engineering problems. It provides an adequate conceptual framework as well as a mathematical tool to depict the real world problems in an optimized way. It is one of the well know techniques with its successful applications in various domains. Bee colony optimization technique is recommended above other means of optimizations because it provides clarity and errors in case of optimal solutions. This algorithm can also be analyzed as a path structuring algorithm that structure the path from one source to another tracing the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It can be identified by its streaks, bands, and lenses. This rock is known for its strength, and hardness,it is also rough to the touch, the color varies, from dark and light bands. Gneiss rocks is a very diverse group that includes igneous rocks and metamorphosed sedimentary rocks. This rockis formed by regional metamorphism takes place when the materials and substances are deep under the ground. It is a high grade metamorphic rockwhich means it recrystallizes under intense heat and pressure. This transformation makes the size of the mineral grains bigger and segregates them into many different bands, this formation also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He claims that the imagination is idolatrous to the extent that it worships its own imitations instead of the divine original (Kearney, 1994:95). Though a paradox does appear when Plato says that certain quot;thought images quot; are allowed if their purpose is to further human understanding or in an attempt to share or gain knowledge. The Modern The modern view was a complete reversal to the old and saw the imagination as the only source of true knowledge. Konigsberg stated that he imagination was the root to both understanding and sensation (Kearney, 1994:157). Kant too believed that imagination, and therefore that which is created out of imagination (like art), ceases to be a copy of a copy of a copy, but instead becomes the ultimate original. Modern artists believed in the beauty of the object as its original self, the sense of freedom that the imagination enjoys while beholding it. This implies that the goal of art is in fact the artistic experience itself. (Kearney, 1994:172) The art can then be seen as an original quot;second nature quot; and not an imitation of the quot;first quot;. It is a new creation simply transforming the appearances of the previous creations (Kearney, 1994:173). The Postmodern The Postmodern interpretation then returns to the belief that all ...
