I feel that I have learned a lot in this course, and understanding these basic principles of
microeconomics has changed the way that I view everyday activities and transactions. I have a
better understanding of the key concepts that go into decisions we make, whereas before I think I
accepted a lot of everyday decision making at face value. Now I understand that even if it is
subconscious we are making tradeoffs in our decision making.
Going into the course I could easily have repeated concepts like supply and demand without
actually knowing what they really meant, in particular in relation to price and utility. For
example when I see things like the recent talk about gas prices, I can understand the issue much
more clearly now. Whereas before we would loosely think of a concept like gas prices and accept
what we hear as to how those prices come about, I can see now that a lot of what we hear especially
from politicians simply does not match up with reality. Supply is more or less fixed, global demand
is rising, and that is why gas prices are rising. Having a lot more knowledge about how markets
really work in this world allows me to cut through some of the nonsense people say more easily,
and I can combat economic myths I hear from my friends, too.
I think that I absorbed the different concepts we learned fairly well, but unsurprisingly there were
a few things that I either did not pick up as well, or maybe would have learned in a different way.

It is a not an easy task to change behavior, especially if a person is not interested in change. This

means is that we re going to the forest to hike, and there isn t actually any food involved at all.

Unlike the traditional bath, the soap at this spa didn t possess a horrendous odor, and the
hammam lady seemed like she didn t want to cause me any pain. Plus, there were massages,
manicures, waxing, and whatever else fancy people do when they re spa ing.
The hammam also provided a much needed opportunity for stress relief, which I desperately
needed after the re entry workshop I had been subjected to the day before. Since this is our final
week in Tangier, we were required to attend the workshop in order to reflect on our experiences
and prepare to re adjust to life in the U.S., i.e. avoiding reverse culture shock. (What is reverse

just turned out to be another opportunity for me to put up with nonsense. I won t go into any

In The Awakening by Kate Chopin, Edna Pontellier is a housewife who spend her days chatting
with friends and going to the beach in Grand Isle, Louisiana. She feels empty, and almost like an
object, whose sole purpose is to satisfy the needs of her family. However, after a summer on Grand
Isle, she begins to express her feelings and desires with the help of her friends and the surrounding

However, all the time she spends listening to piano playing, is time she is not spending with her
children or husband and neglecting her social duties. They become so distanced around this time
that they are not even sleeping in the same bed and barely even see each other. This demonstrates
that all of Edna s creative ventures have come at a price, her marriage, but she values her self
expression so much that she does not seem to mind.
Edna s sacrifice of her family also illuminates one of her main values, freedom. In the beginning
of the novella, Edna is reserved and demure. However her friendship with Adele Ratignolle
encourages her to follow the creole style of expression and become more open and candid with
her actions and voice. The friendship helps her learn to value herself as a person with real
emotions, rather than a piece of property for her husband. This marks the beginning of her
awakening, as she becomes more open with her feelings, prompting her to further her relationship
with Robert. They begin to move past the level of innocent flirtation the Creoles are accustomed
to, against the advice of Adele, leading Edna to a new sexual freedom as she continuously chooses
to spend her time with Robert rather than her family. However, perhaps one of the most prominent

Ethnography has undergone a process of drastic evolution (or, some might say, oscillation) in
the century or so that it has existed as an anthropological tool. Many aspects of ethnography
have changed between two extremes that I will term traditional ethnography and postmodern
ethnography. Everything from the declared goal of the anthropologist to the approach to
possible objectivity or subjectivity of the anthropologist s writing, from views on the concept of
culture to the ethnography s intended audience, even to choice of topic to explore, has changed.
I will explore these differences using Coming of Age in Samoa by Margaret Mead as an

of postmodern as a label for the kind of ethnography that Smadar Lavie produced in 1990 (based

By having an amazing autistic family member, I am able to see both worlds, what an autistic life
is like, and what an autistic life may seem to someone on the outside. The textbook defines the
word schemata as a database of stored, related information (Jones Jr., 2012), information that we
have developed over time (Jones Jr., 2012). Schemata allows us to interpret the things we see
around us, how we behave, and act in certain situations. People tend to place stereotypes on

bring a whole new life to those who they are around. They light up our world when we are around
them and do not see when there is trouble with different issues. After watching the two movies,
Lorenzo s Oil and The Other Sister, my eyes were opened even more about living with children
who have special needs. Lorenzo s Oil is based on a true story of Michalla and Augosto Odone
and their son Lorenzo. When Lorenzo is just five years old he is diagnosed with a disease called
Adrenoleukodystrophy also called ALD. Once he is diagnosed the Odone s do everything they can
to find a cure for this terminal disease. After talking with doctors they find out that Lorenzo only
had about two years to love. With that being said both Michalla and Augosto do everything in their
power to lengthen his prognosis. ALD is a genetic disorder that is X linked. This disease causes the
body to not be able to break down the long chain of fatty acids, because of this then the myelin
sheath that is around the nerves in the brain and the spinal cord begins to deteriorate. There are
many different symptoms that one produces such as: hyperactivity, decreased school performance,
difficulty understanding verbal communication, hard time swallowing, muscle spasms and change
in muscle tone, loss of hearing, visual impairment or blindness, and seizures. These are just some of

In my analysis, I will demonstrate how Siegfred Sassoon has used many different language
techniques to show his perspective on the true meaning of war.
For example, the poet has used simplistic diction that creates an image of the destruction of a
simple soldier boy . At first we see him whistling, this then degrades to depression which lead him
to committing suicide. Siegfred Sassoon concludes his poem with anger and a powerful message.
Sneak home and pray you ll never know emphasizes that those who aren t soldiers have to sneak

the rhyme of brain and again at line eight tries to form a connection that although a young boy
was convinced to join the war and fought tremendously for his country and himself. However, in
the end, he was pushed to his limit and no one spoke of him again . This shows how cruel and
selfish war is. The boy had sacrificed his childhood fun, laughter and playful life in for nothing to
return. This is effective because it makes the reader think about why is there war and why are there
innocent lives at risk which creates the bitter mood.
The diction used in the poem sends the reader a clear message about war. In the last stanza, the
word kindling is being used to describe the eyes of the smug faced crowds . Kindling is used to
describe the facial description which shows that it is a very shallow expression feature that
expresses the lack of empathy shown to the young men. However, Siegfried tries to show with a
sarcastic tone that they think war is a glorious thing; they feel proud of the children risking their
lives with nothing in return and seem to understand and appreciate what they are doing. But in
reality the public cannot imagine what these children are going through. This is how the word
kindling reveals a shallow side of everyone s personality.
In my personal opinion, the last stanza is the strongest and most impactful stanza. While the

to never give up. This is showed when Ellie and her mother do not always get along, but when they
move Auschwitz, the most torturing concentration camp, her mother starts to love Ellie more. Back
at home, the two of them wouldn t always get along due to them not having many things in
common. But now that they are stuck together and are fighting for their lives they start to get
along. The theme, never give up, is also shown in this book when the two of them are extremely
dehydrated and haven t eaten in days. They go around camp to find water which they eventually
find, Ellie continues to talk to her mother about making it through to the next day, every day....
Knowing that Ellie s father is away at a forced labor camp will make you always want to continue
reading the book. Another thing that will make you not want to put the book down, will be
hearing the real occurrences that happen at Auschwitz and at Plaszow, the concentration camps.
When you realize the young teenage girl, Ellie, is about our age you will want to keep reading
because it makes you think that this could ve happened to you and your family if you lived during
this time, when Hitler criticized the Jews for their religion
