Cosmetic Dentistry Essay
Cosmetic Dentistry
This morning I woke up and looked in the mirror and noticed that my teeth were not as white as I like
them to be. I think to myself, I need to call and make an appointment to get my teeth whitened with
my dentist. Teeth whitening is an example of Cosmetic Dentistry. Cosmetic Dentistry is different than
regular dentistry in the sense that regular dentistry deals with oral hygiene and the prevention,
diagnosing and treating of any oral diseases. Cosmetic dentistry however focuses on improving a
person s teeth, smile, and mouth. General dentistry deals with what needs to be done whereas

You Fly off your bike and hit your front teeth on the ground chipping both of your beautiful front
teeth. How are you going to fix this? I have a solution. Dental bonding is a type of cosmetic dentistry
that permanently attaches dental materials to the teeth by using adhesives and a special curing light.
Dentists use tooth colored composite to restore chips or cracks. Also to fill cavities, close gaps
between your teeth and repair worn down edges of your teeth. Dentists are the ones who do the direct
composite bonding which means that the procedure is usually done in one dental visit. Dental bonding
does not require any impressions or temporaries. First the dentist will place a plastic coating on the
front of the teeth. Then they will place a bonding agent, colors it according to the color of your teeth,
and shapes it. Then a light called the curing light is shined through the plastic that causes it to harden
and makes the surface look shiny and polished. Then a thin layer of etch is placed on your teeth to
make little fine holes in the enamel of your teeth. This is so the resin can stick to your teeth very well.
Then many coats of composite resin are placed on your teeth

Why I Want to Attend Western Oregon University Essay
Western Oregon University Western Oregon is a standard 4 year, medium sized college. It is located in
the small, rural town of Monmouth, but only 10 miles from an urban city. Being primarily residential,
Western Oregon brings a certain family vibe, which they claim you cannot find anywhere else. Many
students say that their favorite part of Western Oregon is the size, since it gave them more one on one
time with their professors. There are a total of eighty three majors. Before financial aid and any
scholarship money are entered the tuition is $8,274 for in state students, while out of state student s
tuition is $21,759. Western Oregon estimated total cost if you are living on campus is $21,838, if you
are off campus the expected total ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Examples of the intramural sports they have are normal sports such as basketball, volleyball, softball,
and even flag football; some sports that are not so average are billiards, walleyball, racquetball, and
triathlons. This year at WOU they have a total of seventeen activities that you can take part in. These
activities include campus ministries, literary magazines, and a television station. As you can imagine
the activities provided at WOU bring in a lot of their students because it is a great opportunity to get
experience for your future job! Western Oregon s retention rate for part time students is 36%, while
their rate for full time students is 72%. This statistic speaks loudly for the good environment, social
community, and classroom environment! The safe environment of this small liberal arts college brings
many students in to the college. The serious crime rate (per 1000 students per year) is 0.96, the drug or
weapon incidents is 5.59, and as you could guess the highest rate is alcohol encounters at 13.12.
Though these statistics might seem high they are actually very low compared to other colleges. The
graduation rate for males is 33%, while the rate for females is 43%. The rate of getting a bachelor s
degree within four years is 16%, but the percentage goes all the way up to 34% after five years of
studies. After studying the ups and downs about this college I found that there are

Media Influence On Children Essay
The powerful media is considered a leading influence in our society both directly and indirectly.
Media is available and readily accessible today more easily than ever. Printed materials, television,
sound recordings, internet, and radio all fall under the umbrella of the big bad or seemingly bad word
media. Is media bad? How is it controlled? And where does this all stem from...? These are some of
the major concerns parents are faced with in raising children in today s times. Although most of our
media appears to be superficial and meaningless fluff, violence and chit chat, it is also a source of
education, humor and non violent entertainment. Both salesmen and individuals wishing to promote
various things have at some point made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A study was conducted on 3,155 children ages 2 18, in regard to the impact of media on society. The
survey was done by The Kaiser Family Foundation, and independent national healthcare philanthropy,
and the results appeared alarming. Children ages 8 and above, 65% have a bedroom TV and 21% have
a bedroom computer. Of all kids, in all ages in our society 69% have a computer at home and 45%
with internet access. One of the many results researchers were surprised to hear that of the children
ages 8 and above, 61% live in homes without any rules regarding TV and internet usage. Many
researchers and educators were alarmed with the extreme results and the percentage of time children
spend watching television. They believe there is a connection between too much media consumption
and violence or acting out among children. (Barbour, et al, 2008) (Clark Blackwell, 2002) In the
discussions regarding the influences media presents to our society two important factors must be
included. On factor, called media literacy was addressed by an educator, Renee Hobbs. Hobbs is
quoted saying Just because our students can use the media and technology doesn t mean they are
effective at critically analyzing and evaluating the messages they receive. Hobbs continues to express
her ideas, by saying children need to be taught the skills to ask important questions about the media
they watch, see, listen to and

Review Of The Guns Of Navarone, River Of Death, Break...
The Development of Major Characters in Alistair Maclean Novels British author Alistair Maclean
once declared, We are all brave men and we are all afraid, and what the world calls a brave man, he is
too brave and afraid like the all rest of us. Only he is brave for five minutes longer. Throughout his
novels, The Guns of Navarone, River of Death, Break Heart Pass, Maclean puts his characters through
a grueling set of challenges, which they must face with bravery and intellect. Bravery is a recurring
concept in MacLean s novels. Yet, Maclean places more emphasis on how the character develops
through these conflicts. The conflicts that Maclean displays are physically, as well as mentally
straining. Due to the arduous struggles that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Maclean uses the recurring climatic challenges as his own special trademarks the threat of impersonal
climatic forces (Lee 362). The added trademark combines with the dangers of the plot to force the
protagonist through a gauntlet of dangers in order to complete the mission. The recurring trademark is
evident in almost all Maclean novels, as the climactic forces are directly responsible for almost all the
challenges the protagonist must face during the rising action. The forces are not limited to freezing
temperatures and roaring oceans but they are also in the form of dense, lush, and dangerous rain
forests as seen in River of Death. In River of Death, the protagonist as well as other major characters
must also face an array of environmental conflicts, primarily, the lush and dangerous Amazonian river
system and forest surrounding. Hamilton, the protagonist, is a brave and respected man, However,
after many years of entering the dense rainforest and returning with ancient Greek gold coins, he is
rumored to have found The Lost City. Due to his supposed findings, he has attracted a greedy wealthy
man who is willing to pay a large amount of money for Hamilton to take him and his group to the
fabled gold city. Hamilton agrees and shortly after entering the jungle, the characters are exposed to
the ever present dangers that the Amazon presents. Maclean describes this harsh terrain as tens of
thousands of square miles in that virtually unknown part of the world: all

The Story Of Miss And Me Essay
As the world turns, people come and go. Beginning life as a small child and eventually adopting the
ways of the older people around us and thus complete the cycle of life. In the story of Miss and Me
Mandible Bartholomew merges the mind of an adult with the body of a child who takes on a
controversial role. While the child possessed the knowledge and the sense of a full grown man he was
looked upon as a mere child who could not make wholesome decisions. This unique opportunity to
delve into what it means to be an adult and child is the crucial question being asked. Would people
rather be naïve children with no responsibilities or knowledgeable adults with worldly burdens? Being
a kid is a wonderfully blissful life, depending on the childhood you received. They are less taxing than
adult life despite most situations, and this is a big plus. Playing, eating, being sure to clean up before
meals, and fighting the authority figures that demand a curfew hour are a few concerns of a child s
role. An uncomplicated way of life that many enjoy and there are people around you to take care of
your needs. No bills, no deadlines, no major responsibilities, but no identity. Children barely have a
self concept of who they as they are generally attached to their parents for the better part of seventeen
years. Without fully understanding who they are, children cannot be a wholesome individual but
merely an extension of their parent s family. There is a huge lack of independence in

Prediction of Age, Gender and Personality Traits Using Facebook Data
Manali Bhalgat
Introduction
In the last decade, social networks like Facebook [1] have emerged as popular medium of social
interaction and information dissemination. From a social web data mining perspective, Facebook
stores a wealth of data about people and their interests. As more and more users are creating their own
content on Facebook, there is a growing interest to mine this data for use in personalized information
access services, recommender systems, tailored advertisements, and other applications that can benefit
from personalization.

Related Work
In this section, we discuss the recent research work related to techniques for predicting age, gender
and personality based on the information available on social networking sites. Most studies predict
personality from the language used by a person to update status or chat in social network.
According to recent works based on study of function words such as pronouns, conjunctions, articles
and prepositions, the elderly use more future tense words and pronouns in their plural forms. The
same studies show that males use more articles and females make heavy use of first person singular
pronouns. In [7], the authors state that even with its challenges, text categorization is a reliable
approach to identify the age and gender of people in social network communication. Goldbeck et al.,
in [3], show that people of different age groups talked about different topics. For example, those
within the age group of 13 to 18 mostly discussed activities related to school, 19 to 22 year olds talked
about university/college.
Many efforts have been made by researchers to analyze the words used by humans to understand their
psychology [2]. Public information of a group of Facebook users was collected by the authors of [6].
They were able to predict the Big five personality traits of the users using this data within 89%
accuracy.

The Great Flood Of 1889
Also known as the Great Flood of 1889, the Johnstown flood occurred when a local man made dam
failed, unleashing millions of gallons of water and causing utter destruction in its wake.
On May 31st, 1889, at around 3:10 p.m., about 14 miles from Johnstown, PA, the South Fork Dam
was overcome by several structural shortcomings and failed. This allowed millions of gallons of water
to surge through the Conemaugh Valley, leaving little in its wake (NPS).
There were a total of 111 days of rainfall within the year preceding the dam s failure. This level of
rainfall was very unusual for the community of Johnstown, let alone the entire state of Pennsylvania.
Just before the dam broke, 6 8 inches of rain had fallen throughout the region, turning ... Show more

These changes had disastrous effects on the structure of the dam (ASDSO).
As large amount of rain fell, debris began to collect in the mesh netting, contributing to rising water
levels, as the spillway was blocked (ASDSP).
The lack of an underlying water relief system, as the previous one had not been replaced after the
reconstruction, increased the pressure of the reservoir (ASDSO).
The pressure of the added volume compromised the structure of the dam and it overtopped. The
structure was overcome and the dam burst (ASDSO).
Due to the nature of this dam break, the water traveled at high velocity estimated at 64 km/hr or about
40 mph (National Geographic).
The average amount of water discharged was around 318,000 cubic feet per second (JAHA).
The flood killed approximately 2,209 people. This included 396 children and 99 local families (Begos,
2014).
As many as 750 corpses remained in river towns downstream and Johnstown morgues awaiting family
identification, which never happened (Begos, 2014).
1,600 homes were lost and whole communities were swept away (Begos, 2014).
Trains were dislodged from their tracks and were swept downstream about 4,000 feet (JFM, 2013).
The flood debris spanned 30

Dhl Case Analysis
Overview
It is now 1991, DHL has established its role as the industrial leader in internaitonal express courier.
However, the environment is changing rapidly. The air express giant is now facing fierce competitions
like never before. With main competitors like FedEx, TNT, and UPS trying to acquire capacities and
undercut DHL s price, price has dropped 5% each year from 1985 to 1990 by estimation, with extreme
drops in some markets. Margins are being squeezed as a result. To maintain its advantage in the
market, DHL is facing some important decisions such as price setting strategies and decision structure.
Needless to say, DHL is making some crucial choices here. A right step will lead to better profitability

The contribution of each local operation was calculated by subtracting local costs from revenue. This
implies that, the P L is calculated by deducting the cost incurred within their region from the revenue
of that region. Revenue is recognized at the location where a shipment was originated. This system is
unreasonable in the sense that it did not consider the costs to other country operations of delivery and
whether the selling price was sufficient to cover the cost of pickup, line haul, hub transfer, delivery,
and headquarters overhead and management costs. Therefore, a region s revenue is not being matched
with its costs. Its real cost should include all costs along the way of sending its documents or parcels
to their destinations. For regions with higher incoming traffic, this system assigns a higher cost to it.
The higher cost will distort management s incentive to maximize profit. If use MR=MC to calculate
optimal price, the region s MC will become higher than its real MC, resulting in a higher price, and it
is not the real profit maximizing price.
So, in order to provide the incentive for management to carry out a price that maximize the profit, the
cost accounting structure must be changed. The company must find out the cost at each step of the
transporting, and then add them up to get the total MC of a certain route. This requires DHL to
improve its accounting IT system PRISM.
Problematic PRISM
PRISM costs were based on historical

This is usually due to extensive decay or trauma, or occasionally a tooth breaks during surgery. And,
because your dentist needs to make an incision to remove the roots, your recuperation time can vary
from a few days to a week.
Impacted Wisdom Teeth
Your third molars, aka wisdom teeth, develop in your late teens, but are so far back in your mouth that
they often cannot erupt properly. This is so common that the American Academy of Oral and
Maxillofacial Surgeons says that 90 percent of people have at least one wisdom tooth that is impacted.
Dentists frequently recommend their removal because they can become infected, cause gum problems
or damage neighboring teeth.
While millions of people have their wisdom teeth extracted each year, the Academy of General
Dentistry explains that even though these are more difficult extractions, most everyone heals without
problems and is back in commission within a few days. However, one common complication that can
extend your recovery time is a dry socket.
A dry socket comes about when the blood clot, beginning to form in the area of the extraction,
becomes dislodged or dissolves, leaving bone and nerve endings exposed. This is a painful condition
that your oral surgeon will need to treat right

Anti-Semitism In Remember The Titans
About a year and a half ago my brother and I were at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp during the summer. I
was talking with one of my buddies in the camp about how I am Jewish, when suddenly a camp
counselor tapped me on my shoulder. I turned around and he had the most utterly confused look on his
face I d ever seen. He actually asked me without a doubt on his mind Wait? If your jewish then where
s your horns? When other kids heard him ask me they wondered as well and for some reason started to
actually throw pennies at me. Ok...why do kids my age randomly have pennies in their pockets and
what the heck are you supposed to say in that situation? A few hours later, I found out that they
thought Jews were just devils in disguise. I still think about this situation today and I can t help
wonder whether or not it happens to others. I feel this form of discrimination or Anti Semitism is still

They also have to fight through the discrimination of the black players and having a black coach. They
learn to stick as a team and even band together when Gary Bertier, one of the head players, paralyzes

Organizational Behavior and Leadership Style
Organizational Behavior and Leadership Style
Abstract: This paper examines the leadership position I would occupy in the fictional Commerzbank
and details the leadership style I would take on as their VP of Development. As VP, I would
emphasize a transformational leadership style, as that style would encourage my members of staff and
the company at large to evolve to their highest potential. I would also encourage an atmosphere of
transparency for the good of the company at large. I would also incorporate emotionally intelligent
leadership, so as to foster an environment of acceptance and teamwork. These factors would no doubt
bolster the development of the company, driving it into the next century. If I were working for a
company such as Commerzbank AG and were able to select the position that I felt best suited me, I
would select the job as VP of development. Such a position would give me more power and autonomy
than a manager, but would still allow me to oversee and supervise the members of staff in my
department as managers do. The biggest draw of this position would be its ability to direct the
company towards innovation and expansion. Just as Steve jobs and his think tank of engineers were
able to make Apple into one of the most creative, profitable and desirable companies that this century
has ever known, a strong VP who s prepared to take risks and think in a distinct and original way, will
be able to push the company light years forward just as Steve Jobs did

Essay Pro Euthanasia
When someone is inevitably dying and in inexplicable pain is it really a crime to grant their wishes
and end their suffering? As of right now euthanasia is illegal in many countries and is a very
controversial topic. Is it compassion for the patient helping them in ending their life or murder? The
doctor is not giving death as an option, it is the patients choice and even where it is legal there are
many rules. Euthanasia should not be considered a crime because the patient is not being murdered;
they are having their suffering end in a painless, humane way out of compassion for the patient and
their family.
Euthanasia is defined by the World Book Millennium 2000 encyclopaedia as, the practise of painlessly

The reason to legalize euthanasia is clear, these people need to have the choice to die with dignity.
Dr. Jack Kevorkian more commonly known as Dr. Death is greatly known for his opinion that
euthanasia should be legalized and his work with patients seeking help. He was very important in
showing euthanasia and voicing his opinion on the subject so the public could not ignore the
importance of the matter. Dr. Kevorkian was said to have been involved with 130 suicides by patients
who wanted to end their own lives (Nicol and Wylie 17). He had two machines he used to help the
patients, one an injection and the other a mask, however both machines were operated by the patient
and although Dr. Kevorkian was taken to court many times for these he was not convicted because the
patient was in control. He was very careful as to not actually commit the act himself until he was
contacted by Thomas Youk, a young with Lou Gheric s disease; Lou Gheric s disease is when the
muscle stop working and eventually the patient chokes to death. Tom s condition prevented him from
actually operating the machines and therefore Dr. Kevorkian decided that he would operate the
machine himself because he cared greatly about all his patients and could not let Tom live in his
constant fear (Nicol and Wylie 11). Dr. Kevorkian taped Tom s wishes and then himself hooking up
the machine and pushing the button to inject the drugs. He then proceed to

Water In John Steinbeck s The Grapes Of Wrath
When forced to give up so much, the Joad family begins to question their faith. Several religions share
the belief that water has the power to cleanse and purify oneself. When the Joad family arrives in
California, all of the men bathe in a river, symbolizing their rebirth. They are purging themselves of
the past and focusing on their future and their aspirations. When they submerge themselves in the
water, all of their tribulations such as Granpa s death and the loss of their farm, will be left behind in
order to focus on what s to come. The water also symbolizes a new start for the Joad family. Steinbeck
writes, He cupped his hands full of water and rubbed his face...dusty water ran out of his hair and
streaked his neck (284). The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the story, however, Steinbeck portrays Casy as a parallel to Jesus Christ. Similarly to
Jesus, Casy restores faith and brings hope to the people who are suffering the most. Like Jesus, Casy
went into the wilderness for clarity: I been in the hills, thinkin , almost you might say like Jesus wen
into the wilderness to think His way out of troubles (32). Additionally, Casy resembles Jesus before he
is murdered when he declares, You don know what you re a doin (386). These words are similar to
Jesus famous last words Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do. Steinbeck also uses
Uncle John to symbolize the power of Christianity. When RosaSharn gives birth to a stillborn baby,
Uncle John is sent to discard of it. He places the baby in a stream and whispers, Go down an tell em.
Go down in the street an rot an tell em that way....Maybe they ll know then. (448). Uncle John s action
alludes to the story of Moses. Moses mother sends her baby down the river to save him from slavery.
Similarly, Uncle John sends the baby down the river to free it from the Joad s miserable conditions.
Uncle John wants to send a message to other migrants. He hopes the baby will tell em of the family s

Contrast Of Presidential Campaign Positions Of McCain And...
Contrast of presidential *campaign positions of McCain and Obama. From year to year, presidential
elections face many controversial problems that involve candidates personality and ideas, and they
have a great influence on voters decisions. Many journalists and politicians express their feelings
about upcoming presidential elections in provocative articles, revealing accomplishments of one and
limitations of another, but the only right way to find out who our candidates are, and what are their
real intentions, is to let them turn their ideas into life. Just remember the words of President George

He will also establish permanent tax credit equal to 10 percent of wages spent or R amp;D . McCain
plans a retirement tax cut, to be exact, to lower Medicare premiums, and to reform budgeting to treat

the Democrats crippling plans for a tax increases in 2011, which compose about 700 dollars per
person. (McCain J. , McCain Tax Cut Plan, 2008) It is surprising that Obama has no word about tax
increases in his economic issues section; probably he has it in his official plan and there is no secret
about it, but still, can we accuse him of not telling the whole truth? It is pretty clear that an average
voter never reads official plans, and he will never know about tax increases if somebody like Mr.
McCain, for example, will not reveal it for public. It would be foolish to assume that an excuse might
be that elections are in 2009, and plans for 2011 can be reported in 2011, as candidates should inform
their voters about all plans during their presidential term. Not less important question in economic
development is trading policy and employment. Both candidates have a variety of valuable ideas about

Summary Of The Selfish Gene By Richard Dawkins
In the book, The Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins he elaborates on two very important phrases that
he will share throughout the entire book. This book will show how both individual selfishness and
individual altruism are explained by the fundamental law that I am calling gene selfishness. (6) I am
sure we all know the word selfishness pretty well, but to some altruism may be new. The way I view it
is that if someone is altruistic, than they do things that benefit the good of the group, species, or
simply, anyone but themselves. In this book we learn the difference in natural selection and how
selfishness and altruism effect those things. Dawkins will mainly relate his matter to different types of
animals and explain the biological changes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main idea of the book was somewhat interesting, but science has never been by favorite subject .
But some things did pop out to me. This is a book about someone s theory of how animals and in way
even hums are what they are. This is something that based on my religion can be debatable but i do
fully understand where and why this information is stated. I do agree that humans should act, in way,
similar to animals because i have noticed with just some of my observations that the growing process
of these animals turn out to be marvelous creatures. I also know that humans are very selfish in many
ways and do not always focus on the final result because they are to occupied focusing on the now and
what they want now. If we were more like the altruistic behavioural species then we would definitely
be a much more successful kind. For example, a long time ago humans became up with the word
changing idea of electricity, factories, etc. then, it was the best thing to ever happen. Things got done
people were happy live was fantastic. Although today this advances are not necessarily helpful as
helpful to us. Of course i do know we would be nothing without them, but we are also suffering very
much with global warming and smog, etc.but way back when we didn t even think about all this. This
is a harsh example but in smaller portions, according to The Selfish Gene, animals would plan this out
better because they look at the good

The Mainstreaming Of The Internet And Social Networking Sites
The mainstreaming of the internet and social networking sites has facilitated bullying and seen the
evolution of the cyberbully. NSW Department of Education and Communities (2011b), define
bullying as repeated verbal, physical, social or psychological behavior that is harmful and involves the
misuse of power... towards one or more persons . However, bullying becomes cyberbullying when the
perpetrator uses technology to execute the attack (Bryce and Fraser, 2013). Bullying is considered to
be one of the most widespread forms of aggression in schools with impacts ranging from anxiety and
distress to more serious impacts such as suicide (Drennan, Brown Mort, 2011; Kwan Skoric, 2013).
Studies have shown three distinguishing features that differentiate cyberbullying; anonymity, a wider
audience and the longevity of content loaded onto the internet (Bryce and Fraser; Kwan Skoric).
Furthermore, Bryce and Fraser found disinhibition of the perpetrator to be a factor in the severity of
the bullying with young people reporting aggressors would say things online that they potentially
would not say in person. Research highlights the fact that it is the same features of online social
networking intended to increase connectivity such as increased capability to share information and
tools to broaden our social network; that also increase the potential for attack (Kwan Skoric). This
growing body of research clearly defines additional vulnerabilities due to the addition of technology

Professional And Academic Knowledge At The Fairfax County...
To enhancement of my professional and academic knowledge, the internship program might be an
essential tool and supporting element. Working with the Fairfax County s ADR office, I have been
gaining some knowledge in the field of workplace conflict, where facilitation, intake, and conflict
coaching conflict are major techniques being used for conflict resolution. In this period, the following
targeted objectives have been addressing through the different program implementation strategies.
1. Learning the techniques that can be used in the organizational conflict facilitation/mediation;
2. Enhancing my effective communication skill by outreaching to other agencies in Fairfax
Government and community;
3. Developing my research skill through information gathering, verifying, and analyzing from the
internet;
4. Analyzing facilitation skills needed for conflict resolution through observing meeting, training, and
workshops;
To address these objectives, I have been working very closely with the ADR team and getting
significant amount of support. As a conflict resolution scholar, organizational conflict facilitation, and
mediation techniques are extremely important and helpful to support may future job as well as
academic knowledge. I have found that the Fairfax County has huge number of employee dispute and
conflict because of poor relationship, lack of training, personality differences, and different values.

The Semi-Nomadic Chickasaw Indians
The Chickasaw Indians were a small group of Indians, consisting of a estimated amount of 5,000
people in the 1600 s. They were people who were very coordinated and established their homes at
close proximity. They held life at a high esteem, and had several towns and villages that incorporated
present day elements. The Chickasaw were religious and relied most on faith for healing. This Indian
group worshiped the deity Ababinili. This god represents the things above such as the sun, clouds, and
sky. In addition, worship of other deities was included into the religion. Each god or deity has a
different purpose. For example, some deities protect against wicked spirits and evil forces.
Chickasaw Indians were semi nomadic, people who moved according to season in search for food,
water, shelter, and land. Families lived in villages made up of small houses with more than one house
per family. Throughout the family, tasks were established separately; one category for the women and
one for the men. Women were introduced at an early age how maintain their own land and raise their
own crops. They accommodated in looking after their children, cooking, and cleaning. They also
tended to the slaves which were often given through war with other tribes. Young girls had the option
to stay close to their mother and assist their mothers with the labor or spending their day as they
chose.

Analysis Of `` House Of Sand And Fog `` By Andre Dubus IIi
Alienation Throughout the novel House of Sand and Fog by Andre Dubus III, the recurring theme of
alienation takes its toll on the lives of the two main characters: Kathy and Behrani. We see how the
isolation of both characters not only has an effect on them, but also on the lives of others who matter
most to them. Alienation is the act of being withdrawn or isolated from a life in which one is
accustomed or should be accustomed to. The incidents of alienation demonstrated in the novel
include, the relationship between each character and their families, Behrani and his family being
forced out of their home country and living in America, and Kathy getting evicted from her family
house. As we see these events occur throughout the book, we also learn that both characters will do
whatever it takes to claim ownership of what they both call home. This drawn out battle over a piece
of property ends up putting Kathy along with Lester behind bars, and with Behrani losing his son in
the process. Dubus illustrates many scenes where both Kathy and Behrani isolate themselves from
their families. For example, when Kathy is at the motel reminiscing of her phone calls with her
mother, we see how Kathy alienates herself from her family when she notes how after Nick left, she
would start lying about how well he was doing at his new job and how this used to be true (44). By not
telling her mother that Nick had left her, this demonstrates a clear example of her seclusion from her

Importance Of Music In My Life
Music has always been a big part of my life. I remember the radio or record player always playing
music at home growing up. I sang in the choir at church and school. I also played the trumpet all
through middle school, I was even first chair in eighth grade. Once I was in high school, attending
concerts became a regular outing for me and my friends. I have continued to keep music in my life to
this day.
The first period of my life represented is early childhood. I honestly could not think of one song I may
have loved between ages 0 to 4. Any music that I would have listened to would have been what my
parents liked at the time. I decided to look up hit songs for the year I was 4 years old. Looking through
the list I remembered that I loved Chicago s song Saturday in the Park . Every summer we traveled to
Maine growing up to visit my Grandma, and this song was my favorite. I specifically remember
playing in the garage and listening to this song over and over again. Every time I hear this song I think
of Summer and all the fun I had growing up. It was released in 1972, but was still popular when I was
in this time period. I still love it.
The second period of my life represented is elementary school. I loved Bonnie Tyler s Total Eclipse of
the Heart . These were the days of listening to the top forty with Casey Kasem on Saturday morning
and taping songs you liked. I had to tape this song so I could listen to it over and over. I loved her deep

The Consequences Of Underage Drinking
Consequences of Underage Drinking While alcohol may not be the most dangerous of drugs, it is
harmful nonetheless. There have been many research studies done by the National Institute of Alcohol
Abuse and Alcoholism that prove this to be true. Binge drinking is drinking with the purpose of
getting drunk, and is the most common form of alcohol consumption while it is also the most
dangerous. There have been numerous researches by other organizations and scientists that have
demonstrated just how dangerous underage drinking can be. These facts cannot be denied and further
the belief that underage drinking is very serious and dangerous. Not only does a person run the risk of
being arrested for illegal activity, a person can also be harmed. The true problem in this situation is
that many people do not realize just how dangerous underage drinking can be. A night simply meant
for laughs and dancing with friends can lead to much more. There may not be any immediate
consequences. There may not even be consequences with the law. However, the danger is very real.
Underage drinking is very common in the United States. Alcohol is the most commonly used and
abused drug in the United States, even more so than illicit drugs (Marijuana, Cocaine, etc...) and
tobacco. In 2012 the National Survey on Drug Use and Health reported that 24% of youth aged 12 to
20 years drink alcohol and 15% reported binge drinking. In 2013, the Monitoring the Future Survey
reported that 28% of 8th graders and 68%

This question has been central to comparative political economy for many years. However, most
answers to it focus on institutions in a single sphere of the political economy. In economics, there are
large but separate literatures on labor and financial markets. One explores the impact of labor
regulations, social regimes, and trade unions on growth or unemployment (Nickell 1997; OECD 1994;
Calmfors/ Driffil 1988). The other considers the effects of accounting standards, the legal standing of
owners or creditors, ownership patterns, and equity or bank based finance on levels of investment or
growth (Carlin/Mayer 1999a, 1999b; LaPorta et al. 1998a; Huang/Xu 1999; Mayer 1996). A similar
separation is evident in political science. Although neocorporatism can be defined in broad terms (cf.
Katzenstein 1985; Schmitter/Lehmbruch 1978), analyses of its economic impact usually focus on the
organization of the trade union movement, considering its interaction mainly with the partisanship of
governance (Cameron 1984; Alvarez et al. 1991; Garrett 1999).1 An entirely different literature
examines the structure of financial systems (Verdier 2000; Cox 1986; Zysman 1984).2 However, there
are good reasons to expect interaction effects among institutions across spheres of the political
economy. In recent years, significant interaction effects have been found between monetary
institutions and those governing

The concept of the Holy Theatre comes from Peter Brook s the Empty Space, in which he separates
theatre into four testaments: Deadly, Holy, Rough, and Immediate Though these lines between said
factions blur, overlap and interplay at any given time.
Still held up by many to be The holy grail of theatre texts , sacred in many quarters. The Holy Theatre
section attempts to rediscover ritual and the spritual aspects of drama, a revaluation of a lost sense of
euphoric communion. The notion of Holy is allowed to mean an (artistic) attempt to reach essences
that are neither only physical nor even mental. Peter Brook defines it as the Theatre of the Invisible
Made Visible.
holy should be imagined as a way of seeing theatre: creating and attending theatre as if it were a holy
rite, a communal passage into the mysteries of life, rather than a vehicle for solely entertainment or
intellectual debate
Though, Brook insists, reality itself must be the goal . The invisible is an act of communication
between actor and audience produced out of the need to impart some emotion. The audience may not
consciously acknowledge the fact that they are being moved by the emotion, yet they are still moved:
the invisible. Brook says it is like

Video Game Violence And It s Affects On Youth
Video Game Violence and It s Affects on Youth
Video games are becoming ever more popular every day among adolescents, youth and adults. Video
game play can be fun, recreational and now with video game consoles such as the Wii, it can even be
healthy. However, some video games are brutally and exceedingly violent, which should be fine
because after all it s just a video game. However, we need to understand and know if the effects of
these violent video games are positive or negative amongst the youth. There are arguments that say
violence in video games are corrupt on the minds of the youth. Then, there are opposing arguments
that say video games are an educational learning tool for them. This literature review will review both
sides of this argument in an attempt to determine what effect violent video games may have on our
youth.
Everyone deals with stress and frustrations differently. However when action is taken out of
frustration and stress, the results are generally not positive. The crime and abuse rate in the United
States has soared in the past decade. More and more children suffer from and are being treated for
anger management than ever before. Now, one can t help but to wonder if these violent video games
are even playing a slight part in the current statistics. I believe they do. Some argue that video game
violence is negatively detrimental upon youth and destructively influential. According to Anderson et

Euripides Medea Of Euripides
Medea of Euripides is an ancient Greek tragedy play written by Euripides, grounded upon the legend
of two characters Medea and Jason. Euripides wrote Medea of Euripides in 431 BC at a time in
Greece, when males were governing, and women had limited rights. Medea, the protagonist, was the
daughter of Aeetes of Colchis, she was driven by passion and committed horrendous crimes for the
love of Jason. In the opening act, Medea is standing outside of Jason house in Corinth as she
explicates to the Chores how she was victimized by Jason. The Nurse, Chores, and Medea give a
history of Medea and Jason s relationship, and the inciting incidence begins. Medea describes how she

Euripides introduced the Chores in the play to explain the critical levels of mutilation that was formed
among the main characters Jason and Medea. Medea s love for the antagonist character Jason has
caused her to murder her brother, be disloyal to her father, banished, and follow him. The Nurse
designates that Jason is the reason that Medea has committed such horrible crimes. In the first scene,
the Nurse spoke,
Served always Jason. Surely this doth bind,
Through all ill days, the hurts of humankind,
When man and woman is one music move.
But now, the world is angry, and true love
Sick with poison. Jason doth forsake
My mistress and his own sons to make
His couch in a king s chamber (Euripides 2).
Euripides masterly uses powerful word choices, different sentence lengths, informal grammar, rhythm
and a dramatic tone to convey his message. This was customary for that time in Greek literature,
specifically for the theater. The Chores role is to evoke empathy, instruction and clarify Medea s
mentality throughout the play. The principal plot motivation for Jason, who is an opportunist with a
mission to acquire prominence, to discards Medea and his sons in order to marry the king s daughter.
Which leads to Medea s objective to destroy Jason and all that he loved. More conflict arises when the
King Creon tells Medea to take her sons and leave his kingdom forever.
Euripides shows us Medea s power of persuasion and scheming characteristics when she convinces

The Marketing Strategy Of Business Strategy
The research program started in 1984 by MIT Sloan School of Management studies the influence of IT
on organization (Morton, 1991). Results include IT application needs changes in organizational and
management structure as well as organizations are required to go through necessary transformation to
compete globally. That findings lead to the MIT90S framework. Another study looked at the IT s
responsiveness to business strategy creation (Tan, 1995). Here, the responsiveness is defined as the
degree to which information technology is exactly considered in the formulation of business strategy.
The key finding is that the prospector business strategy is more IT strategy responsiveness than

Firstly, the company develop a business strategy. Secondly, the company choose an appropriate

Information Technology (IT) with the business strategy. IT here is treated as a back office support
(Allen Morton, 1994). In addition, employees will be trained and their functions are designed
specifically. As a result, the most important issue in this model is to determine the strategic vision and
to handle the problems of implementation. According to figure2, in contrast, in the MIT strategic
model of change and fit, an emergent perspective , the components are more interrelated. The strategic
fit attempts to align the organization with its external environment and to manage the internal
resources to meet that alignment (Miyamoto, Kudo and Iizuka, 2014). In terms of strategic change, the
business strategy is being shaped gradually and is an outcome instead of a driver. In terms of IT, IT

the increasing and tactical adoption of technology in order to catch up with the performance of the

The Prince And Discourse On Livy
In his famous works, The Prince and Discourse on Livy, Machiavelli meticulously discusses the
importance of religion in the formation and maintaining a political order. Machiavelli regards religion
as a political tool used by political elites for political purposes. He argues that the appearance of
religion is good while the practice of it is harmful. One of the memorable passage from the Prince that
supports Machiavelli s claim is when he advices the prince to not to be good, and the prince should
cultivate the appearance of the religion if he wants to maintain his state. The prince, he writes, should
appear all mercy, all faith, all honesty, all human, all religion he adds and nothing is more necessary to
have than this last quality (The Prince, 70). Here, Machiavelli argues, in order for the prince to
maintain his state, it is necessary for the prince to go to the source of morality and by this he means
religion. Thus, Machiavelli view on religion is nothing but a necessary tool for maintaining a political
authority.
Furthermore, Machiavelli stresses the importance of the religion as a political mean to control and
govern the masses. In the Discourse on Livy, Machiavelli uses the example of how Numa the founder
of Roman religion, manipulates the Roman people by using religion to maintain order and peace.
Machiavelli praises the wisdom of Numa for inventing a religion to control a very ferocious Romans.

High Costs And Risk Of War By James Fearon
James Fearon aims to shed light on the question why conflicts occur despite high costs for the actors
involved and an uncertainty of outcome. He employs a rationalist explanation with states as main
actors not the international system. The high costs and risk of war create an ex post inefficient, which
should provide motivation for rational states to find an other way of solving their differences which
would be preferable to a open conflict (Fearon 1995: 380). Yet despite the awareness of the negative
outcome and thus an incentive to avoid it, wars between states occur and this creates the central
Puzzel for Fearons theory (Fearon 1995: 383). The ex post inefficiency of war opens up an ex ante
bargaining range (Fearon 1995: 390). This bargaining range expands between the two preferred
outcome of the two opposing states. Between the two preferred outcomes a continuous range for
peaceful settlements exists (Fearon 1995: 389). Both states have a bargaining range with possible
solutions bound by expected utility of war as well as by the costs and risks of fighting (Fearon 1995:
388). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Anarchy and preventive wars are ruled out as rational explanations as their either do not reflect on
costs, or do not consider bargaining between states which would create a better outcome for states

The Personalistic vs. the Naturalistic Viewpoint
As far back as the time when man first discovered ways to communicate with one another he has
attempted to understand and explain the course of historical events. In considering the historical
development of scientific psychology two main views of the historical progress the field of science
have emerged: personalistic theory and naturalistic theory. The personalistic theory often times called

It ignited a novel appeal to all kinds of machines that were being made not only for entertainment
purposes but also for use in science and industry. Machines were now becoming familiar to people
from all walks of life all over Western Europe. They were becoming an accepted way of life. The most
important of all these machines to the history of modern psychology was the mechanical clock. Clocks
at this time were sensational and amazing and had an enormous influence on human thought
throughout all of society. They captured the essence of the doctrine of mechanism which was the
underlying philosophy and the zeitgeist of the seventeenth century. The theory of mechanism held that
natural processes were mechanically determined and could be explained through the sciences of
physics and chemistry. It led the prominent thinkers to imagine and explain the universe in terms of
operating as a great machine predictable, precise, and regular. Clocks shared these same
characteristics, therefore, they became models of the universe for scientists and philosophers. One of
the most noted philosophers agreeing with this idea was Rene Descartes(1596 1650). Descartes was
born the second child in a family of two sons and one daughter on March 31, 1596 in France. He

Presidency
Although it is often said that the President of the United States holds the most powerful office in the
world, this does not mean that he is able to decide very much for himself. The American Constitution,
which was adapted in 1789, clearly states the Separation of Powers. Thus, the president makes up only
one third of the government, namely the executive branch. He is also controlled by a complex system
of checks and balances, which makes sure that he (or any of the other branches, for that matter) does
not become too powerful. We will now have a look at the different problems which may be facing a
recently elected president, and then discuss to what extent his powers are important.
The first and foremost problem is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Congress is of course often the most serious problem to a new president. It is after all the legislative
branch of government, and passes both ordinary and tax bills. Another important element worth
mentioning here, is the huge amount of lobbying which goes on in America. Private associations and
companies, that officially do not have any power, gain a lot of influence through the persuasion of
congressmen(and women) or/and senators. One example is the National Rifle Association (NRA),
which has so far succeeded in destroying any attempt to introduce gun control in America. Another
one is how the powerful insurance companies helped to kill President Clinton s welfare reform a
couple of years ago.
In the US system of checks and balances, the Supreme Court is also very powerful. They are able to
create a lot of trouble for the president if they want to, as they have the so called power of judicial
review. This means that they can declare any law or presidential act unconstitutional. The Supreme
Court Justices are appointed for life, and the president has therefore no means of controlling them,
unless they resign voluntarily or die. The balance between liberal and conservative justices here, is
therefore of course subject to a lot of interest, and the president has good reasons in maintaining a
harmonious relation to the Supreme Court.
In addition to the different branches of government, there is another aspect of

Reading Lolita Into Tehran Essay
Azar Nafisi uses the power of western literature to illustrate to her seven women students the
importance of connecting books to fictional imagination. She wanted to challenge her students to
discuss the relation between fiction and reality. (Pg 6) Women in Tehran, when the Iranian revolution
began, had little or no freedoms out of their houses. Nafisi took an enormous risk by inviting these
seven women into her house to discuss literature. If caught she and or her students could face jail time
because the books were banned in fear of conspiracy against the new revolutionary Iran. In the
memoir, Reading Lolita in Tehran, the extreme risks these women take are due to the reoccurring
theme of oppression throughout the story. As each day ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women took power over men and had the ability to create their own destiny. Nafisi explains Gatsby
was constantly reinventing himself, being dishonest about his life and background, but in order to
achieve his dream, Daisy, he could not escape his own imagination and/or truth. Once reaching his
dream, his life would have no meaning. Gatsby, like most Iranian women, needed to learn that the past
was dead, the present is what we have today, and the future is what we can create in our own dreams
and imagination. With the loss of dream in their current situation the students were able posses their
dreams through books. In order to create your dream you must engulf yourself in a novel. A novel is
not an allegory. It is the sensual experience of another world. If you don t enter that world, Nafisi
explained, hold your breath with the characters and become involved in their destiny, you won t be
able to empathize, and empathy is at the heart of the novel. This is how you read a novel: you inhale
the experience. (pg 111) Nafisi taught those seven women how to gasp freedoms in which literature
brings to life. Through Nafisi s classroom, each of the girls was able to escape the horrible reality of
what was occurring around them. Being a teacher, Nafisi had the power to enlighten and inspire her
students to leave reality and escape into a fictional world. In this imaginative world, inside Nafisi s
house, had

Thesis On Attendance Checking System
Attendance checking system is a system for checking attendance of students at the University of
Sulaimaniyah. This system is an improvement of the previous attendance checking system where it
uses the implementation of the QR code system.
The following outlines how the previous system works:
1) A teacher reads the names of students from a list.
2) If there is any absentees list, the teacher will record the students by putting an A behind their names.
A is indicate Absent .
3) After checking the attendance list, the teacher enters each absent student s name on a small paper
form.
4) The attendance form is then passed to the system manager. The primary role of the system manager
is to double check the list and enters all absentee information ... Show more content on

The old version of attendance checking system of University of Sulaimaniyah is completely in manual
process. All the student information is totally filled and checked by teacher and system manager.
Although the system is work step by step, it still has a few problems that interrupt the performance of
the attendance checking system. The problems are:
The process is performed very slowly.
The mistakes in absentee rate might be occurred as the paper form can be lost.
In some cases, some teachers have problem of writing the student s name correctly. This is mean
wrong spelling or bad handwriting which leads to difficulty for the system manager to enter the data.
The form is sometimes incomplete where some fields cannot be completed such as date, subject name,
teacher name and section.
The system manager may make mistakes when calculating the absentee rate for each student.
However, the calculation process is quite involved because there is a significant amount of addition,
division and multiplication.
Students may not see the notice board that announces the attendance warnings.
The paper form may not have enough space to record all absent students

Plant Growth Environment
2a.
Cakile edentula competes less aggressively when it grows in close proximity with its relatives. The
root biomass of this plant is smaller in comparison with the biomass of the same plant s root in a
region where there is no genetic relatedness. The hypothesis the presence of close relatives in the plant
s environment does not change group or individual fitness was tested using another species, Lupinus
angustifolius. Three different controlled environments were constructed to grow this plant: one
surrounded by relatives, one surrounded by unrelated individuals of the same area, and one
surrounded by unrelated individuals of different areas. Regardless of the growth environment, it was
predicted that plants will compete equally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This provides evidence not only for the ability of certain plants to identify their relatives but the
mutual influence on their fitness. In this context, a recent paper reported that plants of the annual
Cakile edentula are able to identify kin in competitive settings and, more importantly, react by
competing less aggressively against a close relative (Dudley File 2007). When individuals were grown
in pots with close relatives, root biomass, a surrogate of below ground competitive ability, was lower
than in individuals grown in the vicinity of strangers (Dudley File 2007).
This citation provides the basis for why the researchers might predict a variation in fitness due to
relatedness. If the plants forego maximizing individual fitness in favour of reducing competition
between relatives this would affect overall group fitness.
Previous fieldwork with this species also suggests that kin selection may be a major selective force in
the most genetically structured groups of C. edentula plants (Donohue 2003).
This citation states the potential for kin selection to significantly influence both individual and group
fitness. Therefore, relatedness could have major implications on group success.
4.
A plant s ability to distinguish its own roots should be an inherent skill, because root growth occurs in
a remarkably heterogeneous space (Hodge 2004).
This citation states that the ability for

Leblanc Orders The T-Shirts
Step 2: What are the ethical issues involved? If LeBlanc orders the t shirts from China she knows that
it has low wages, rigorous work schedules, poor safety regulations, and a lack of worker s
compensation and benefits for its employees. After all, she had witnessed firsthand similar conditions
when she visited a Bulgarian clothing factory while with the University of Virginia. She also had to
think about the global recession, and how it would make the company look by outsourcing for cheaper
t shirts instead of supporting U.S. companies. However, if she orders the t shirts from the San
Francisco company, which she had worked with in the past, she knows good working conditions exist
for the employees there. Also, even though the t shirts were more expensive they were made of good
quality, fair trade, organic, and eco friendly. Step 3: Who are the stakeholders impacted by the
situation? Stakeholders impacted by this situation would involve CEO, clients, LeBlanc, business
image, and the China and San Francisco companies. The CEO is impacted because if LeBlanc fails, it
will reflect on the decision making of the CEO in giving such an important project to an intern. Also,
the clients, because if LeBlanc makes the decision to go with the China company the t shirts will not
be of as good quality, and stylish as from the San Francisco company. LeBlanc is also impacted
because her grade, and her reputation is on the line. If she decides to order from the China company

Dealing with Controversial Mascots
The Merriam Webster dictionary defines mascot as, a person, animal, or object used as a symbol to
represent a group (such as a sports team) and to bring good luck. Hopeful sports teams around the
United States rely on their mascots to bring in positive energy as motivation to help win the game. The
mascot often serves as the face of a team, and acts to define the team s character to their opponents.
The mascots represent the community that the team belongs to, and that is a big role. When a mascot
is offensive or isolates a particular group of people, the mascot can also bring negative attention to the
team. The negative publicity will often result in a mascot change. Many of the most controversial
mascots in history have been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They still wanted to make use of the school s distinctive red jerseys, so the name now refers to the
colour of their uniform. Considering the root of those jerseys was meant to imitate the native people s
red skin, some might still find the new mascot offensive. At the University of Hawaii, the Rainbow
Warriors were deemed offensive by the students because rainbows are associated with the gay
community. In response to this controversy, the university allowed each team to pick it s own mascot,
most teams are known simply as the Warriors, while others chose to take a more progressive approach.
The basketball team is still known as the Rainbow Warriors, but the baseball team, perhaps the most
tolerant, is simply known as the Rainbows. For St. Bonaventure University, the name change was
brought on by embarrassment. The men s teams were known as the Brown Indians, which is offensive
on it s own. The women s teams were called the Brown Squawks until 1979, when a Seneca chief
informed them that the name was their word for vagina, a fitting term for a women s team, although
not family friendly. Not all controversial mascots are related to the American Indians. The University
of California at Santa Barbara is cheered on by Olé the Gaucho, referring to Latinos from South
America. The name is not as offensive, possibly because it is a specific character that happens to be

Essay about Economy of Japan after tsunami
When an earthquake followed by a tsunami hit Japan, the people were devastated and everyone was
scrambling for their safety. The earthquake was one of the strongest on record and this caused an
overwhelming tsunami that destroyed most of the nation. These events not only tore down Japan, but
this natural disaster is going to greatly affect the rest of the world and the global economy. Before
these events, the global economy was stable and now after these events the global economy is going to
see a change for the worse. Some nations feel that they can self produce and are not going to be
affected, but there are some nations that are dependent on the production of some products from other
nations. Japan is a highly civilized country; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the same time, some analysts expect global car production to fall by nearly one third as a result of
shortages of Japanese automotive parts (EIU).
Many companies can get products at a cheaper price by importing goods from Japan. Now companies
have to worry about power sources and some things out of their control before they can start
production again. The projected time for companies getting back on track again is having everything
going perfectly with no other distractions or setbacks due to failure in a system. Japan as a nation is
not only worrying about picking up the pieces from the disaster, but also worrying about a nuclear
meltdown at a major power plant,
Japan is struggling to cope not only with the effects of the earthquake and tsunami, but also with the
continuing threat of a nuclear meltdown at Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant. For the past several days,
tens of millions of people have been living with the fear of major radiation leaks from the crippled
plant (EIU).
Japan is desperate need of help and is living life worrying about everything on a day to day basis
without being able to completely control things. People are suffering from these affects because there
is no power to be used around the nation leaving people struggling to make it through day. Japan s
economy as whole can explain how the whole global economy is going to start failing because of a
catastrophic event. Many

Examples Of Reality As Contradiction
The second dialectic concept is reality as contradiction. Reality as contradiction is not this or that , but
often this and that at the same time. Contradiction is the unity of opposites. An example of reality as a
contradiction would be when Abramoff was in prison and was accused of harassing a rabbi. While in
prison, he was trying to get access to Torah and spoke with the rabbi about getting one. With the
Jewish holiday right around the corner, Abramoff wanted to make sure he had the Torah in time. The
rabbi agreed to lend him one, but then he was later accused of harassing the rabbi, even though the
rabbi had agreed to supply him with one. Although Abramoff had well intentions when speaking to the
rabbi about the Torah, others depicted his intentions as bad. This ... Show more content on

The basis for motion is contradiction. Readers will come to notice that Abramoff s life is fueled by an
event or change in his life that is contradictory to what he actually wants to do. Before Abramoff
became a notorious lobbyist his career was imbedded in movie making. He was in his mid thirties
when he started producing films and was constantly traveling, which led him to be away from his five
kids and wife. Abramoff wanted to be involved in his children s life and didn t want to leave raising
the kids up to his wife to do alone. As a producer, he was constantly working and traveling and had
little to no time to spend with his family. This really took a toll on Abramoff because he knew he was
missing the most important years of his kids lives. Abramoff was in a very conflicted spot because he
wanted to be that amazing father and husband, but also work at the same time. After much thought,
Abramoff dropped his career in film making and began lobbying. This is an example of motion
energized through contradiction because his contradiction powered the motion that transitioned him
from film producer to notorious

Exploring Different Types of Video Games Essay
Video games in today s society have become very popular. Every new game that comes out to be
played and conquered by the average gamer has its own category. There are several other types of
genres of games that people play but because of big hit titles and the new popular game systems like
the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, people become more interested in a game that is well known than a
game they have never even heard of before. Every game has its own storyline and own way of how it
unfolds and where the game ends according to game play. Some of the biggest reasons people sway to
certain genres of games is because of the game titles released under them and the demand of people
who want a good game under that category. The top three most ... Show more content on

Unlike action/adventure games, people don t have to run to a particular spot in the game to get that
special item they wanted, instead, they just simply unlock it when he or she has accomplished the
necessary requirements to get the item.
Action/Adventure categories of games are very unique. These types of games generally feature long
term obstacles that must be overcome using a tool or object that is acquired at the beginning of the
game. These types of games are generally a more item gathering, simple puzzle solving, and combat
game. Games such as Assassins Creed and Ratchet and Clank are perfect examples of this category of
games. Assassins Creed is a bit more puzzle solving and more stealth like than Ratchet and Clank
whereas Ratchet and Clank is more of an action pack filled game with more item gathering and small
obstacles along the way encountering combat in every turn that is made. Another famous
action/adventure game would be Super Mario. The perfect storyline of saving a princess and while
looking for her one would encounter different but strong enemies in each level he or she would go in;
along the way he or she would also benefit from picking up certain items and having to complete
certain obstacles to obtain that item that does later on become very handy when used it at the right
time. Role playing games play similar to action/adventure games but has a much more difficult way of
how the game is completed.
RPG s or role playing games

  • 2. Cosmetic Dentistry Essay Cosmetic Dentistry This morning I woke up and looked in the mirror and noticed that my teeth were not as white as I like them to be. I think to myself, I need to call and make an appointment to get my teeth whitened with my dentist. Teeth whitening is an example of Cosmetic Dentistry. Cosmetic Dentistry is different than regular dentistry in the sense that regular dentistry deals with oral hygiene and the prevention, diagnosing and treating of any oral diseases. Cosmetic dentistry however focuses on improving a person s teeth, smile, and mouth. General dentistry deals with what needs to be done whereas Cosmetic dentistry is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You Fly off your bike and hit your front teeth on the ground chipping both of your beautiful front teeth. How are you going to fix this? I have a solution. Dental bonding is a type of cosmetic dentistry that permanently attaches dental materials to the teeth by using adhesives and a special curing light. Dentists use tooth colored composite to restore chips or cracks. Also to fill cavities, close gaps between your teeth and repair worn down edges of your teeth. Dentists are the ones who do the direct composite bonding which means that the procedure is usually done in one dental visit. Dental bonding does not require any impressions or temporaries. First the dentist will place a plastic coating on the front of the teeth. Then they will place a bonding agent, colors it according to the color of your teeth, and shapes it. Then a light called the curing light is shined through the plastic that causes it to harden and makes the surface look shiny and polished. Then a thin layer of etch is placed on your teeth to make little fine holes in the enamel of your teeth. This is so the resin can stick to your teeth very well. Then many coats of composite resin are placed on your teeth ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Why I Want to Attend Western Oregon University Essay Western Oregon University Western Oregon is a standard 4 year, medium sized college. It is located in the small, rural town of Monmouth, but only 10 miles from an urban city. Being primarily residential, Western Oregon brings a certain family vibe, which they claim you cannot find anywhere else. Many students say that their favorite part of Western Oregon is the size, since it gave them more one on one time with their professors. There are a total of eighty three majors. Before financial aid and any scholarship money are entered the tuition is $8,274 for in state students, while out of state student s tuition is $21,759. Western Oregon estimated total cost if you are living on campus is $21,838, if you are off campus the expected total ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Examples of the intramural sports they have are normal sports such as basketball, volleyball, softball, and even flag football; some sports that are not so average are billiards, walleyball, racquetball, and triathlons. This year at WOU they have a total of seventeen activities that you can take part in. These activities include campus ministries, literary magazines, and a television station. As you can imagine the activities provided at WOU bring in a lot of their students because it is a great opportunity to get experience for your future job! Western Oregon s retention rate for part time students is 36%, while their rate for full time students is 72%. This statistic speaks loudly for the good environment, social community, and classroom environment! The safe environment of this small liberal arts college brings many students in to the college. The serious crime rate (per 1000 students per year) is 0.96, the drug or weapon incidents is 5.59, and as you could guess the highest rate is alcohol encounters at 13.12. Though these statistics might seem high they are actually very low compared to other colleges. The graduation rate for males is 33%, while the rate for females is 43%. The rate of getting a bachelor s degree within four years is 16%, but the percentage goes all the way up to 34% after five years of studies. • 4. Media Influence On Children Essay The powerful media is considered a leading influence in our society both directly and indirectly. Media is available and readily accessible today more easily than ever. Printed materials, television, sound recordings, internet, and radio all fall under the umbrella of the big bad or seemingly bad word media. Is media bad? How is it controlled? And where does this all stem from...? These are some of the major concerns parents are faced with in raising children in today s times. Although most of our media appears to be superficial and meaningless fluff, violence and chit chat, it is also a source of education, humor and non violent entertainment. Both salesmen and individuals wishing to promote various things have at some point made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A study was conducted on 3,155 children ages 2 18, in regard to the impact of media on society. The survey was done by The Kaiser Family Foundation, and independent national healthcare philanthropy, and the results appeared alarming. Children ages 8 and above, 65% have a bedroom TV and 21% have a bedroom computer. Of all kids, in all ages in our society 69% have a computer at home and 45% with internet access. One of the many results researchers were surprised to hear that of the children ages 8 and above, 61% live in homes without any rules regarding TV and internet usage. Many researchers and educators were alarmed with the extreme results and the percentage of time children spend watching television. They believe there is a connection between too much media consumption and violence or acting out among children. (Barbour, et al, 2008) (Clark Blackwell, 2002) In the discussions regarding the influences media presents to our society two important factors must be included. On factor, called media literacy was addressed by an educator, Renee Hobbs. Hobbs is quoted saying Just because our students can use the media and technology doesn t mean they are effective at critically analyzing and evaluating the messages they receive. Hobbs continues to express her ideas, by saying children need to be taught the skills to ask important questions about the media they watch, see, listen to and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Development of Major Characters in Alistair Maclean Novels British author Alistair Maclean once declared, We are all brave men and we are all afraid, and what the world calls a brave man, he is too brave and afraid like the all rest of us. Only he is brave for five minutes longer. Throughout his novels, The Guns of Navarone, River of Death, Break Heart Pass, Maclean puts his characters through a grueling set of challenges, which they must face with bravery and intellect. Bravery is a recurring concept in MacLean s novels. Yet, Maclean places more emphasis on how the character develops through these conflicts. The conflicts that Maclean displays are physically, as well as mentally straining. Due to the arduous struggles that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Maclean uses the recurring climatic challenges as his own special trademarks the threat of impersonal climatic forces (Lee 362). The added trademark combines with the dangers of the plot to force the protagonist through a gauntlet of dangers in order to complete the mission. The recurring trademark is evident in almost all Maclean novels, as the climactic forces are directly responsible for almost all the challenges the protagonist must face during the rising action. The forces are not limited to freezing temperatures and roaring oceans but they are also in the form of dense, lush, and dangerous rain forests as seen in River of Death. In River of Death, the protagonist as well as other major characters must also face an array of environmental conflicts, primarily, the lush and dangerous Amazonian river system and forest surrounding. Hamilton, the protagonist, is a brave and respected man, However, after many years of entering the dense rainforest and returning with ancient Greek gold coins, he is rumored to have found The Lost City. Due to his supposed findings, he has attracted a greedy wealthy man who is willing to pay a large amount of money for Hamilton to take him and his group to the fabled gold city. Hamilton agrees and shortly after entering the jungle, the characters are exposed to the ever present dangers that the Amazon presents. • 6. The Story Of Miss And Me Essay As the world turns, people come and go. Beginning life as a small child and eventually adopting the ways of the older people around us and thus complete the cycle of life. In the story of Miss and Me Mandible Bartholomew merges the mind of an adult with the body of a child who takes on a controversial role. While the child possessed the knowledge and the sense of a full grown man he was looked upon as a mere child who could not make wholesome decisions. This unique opportunity to delve into what it means to be an adult and child is the crucial question being asked. Would people rather be naïve children with no responsibilities or knowledgeable adults with worldly burdens? Being a kid is a wonderfully blissful life, depending on the childhood you received. They are less taxing than adult life despite most situations, and this is a big plus. Playing, eating, being sure to clean up before meals, and fighting the authority figures that demand a curfew hour are a few concerns of a child s role. An uncomplicated way of life that many enjoy and there are people around you to take care of your needs. No bills, no deadlines, no major responsibilities, but no identity. Children barely have a self concept of who they as they are generally attached to their parents for the better part of seventeen years. Without fully understanding who they are, children cannot be a wholesome individual but merely an extension of their parent s family. There is a huge lack of independence in ... Related Work In this section, we discuss the recent research work related to techniques for predicting age, gender and personality based on the information available on social networking sites. Most studies predict personality from the language used by a person to update status or chat in social network. According to recent works based on study of function words such as pronouns, conjunctions, articles and prepositions, the elderly use more future tense words and pronouns in their plural forms. The same studies show that males use more articles and females make heavy use of first person singular pronouns. In [7], the authors state that even with its challenges, text categorization is a reliable approach to identify the age and gender of people in social network communication. Goldbeck et al., in [3], show that people of different age groups talked about different topics. For example, those within the age group of 13 to 18 mostly discussed activities related to school, 19 to 22 year olds talked about university/college. Many efforts have been made by researchers to analyze the words used by humans to understand their psychology [2]. Public information of a group of Facebook users was collected by the authors of [6]. They were able to predict the Big five personality traits of the users using this data within 89% accuracy. Methodology 1. Problem Definition To survey the machine learning techniques for ... The Great Flood Of 1889 Also known as the Great Flood of 1889, the Johnstown flood occurred when a local man made dam failed, unleashing millions of gallons of water and causing utter destruction in its wake. On May 31st, 1889, at around 3:10 p.m., about 14 miles from Johnstown, PA, the South Fork Dam was overcome by several structural shortcomings and failed. This allowed millions of gallons of water to surge through the Conemaugh Valley, leaving little in its wake (NPS). There were a total of 111 days of rainfall within the year preceding the dam s failure. This level of rainfall was very unusual for the community of Johnstown, let alone the entire state of Pennsylvania. These changes had disastrous effects on the structure of the dam (ASDSO). As large amount of rain fell, debris began to collect in the mesh netting, contributing to rising water levels, as the spillway was blocked (ASDSP). The lack of an underlying water relief system, as the previous one had not been replaced after the reconstruction, increased the pressure of the reservoir (ASDSO). The pressure of the added volume compromised the structure of the dam and it overtopped. The structure was overcome and the dam burst (ASDSO). Due to the nature of this dam break, the water traveled at high velocity estimated at 64 km/hr or about 40 mph (National Geographic). The average amount of water discharged was around 318,000 cubic feet per second (JAHA). The flood killed approximately 2,209 people. This included 396 children and 99 local families (Begos, 2014). As many as 750 corpses remained in river towns downstream and Johnstown morgues awaiting family identification, which never happened (Begos, 2014). 1,600 homes were lost and whole communities were swept away (Begos, 2014). Trains were dislodged from their tracks and were swept downstream about 4,000 feet (JFM, 2013). The flood debris spanned 30 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The air express giant is now facing fierce competitions like never before. With main competitors like FedEx, TNT, and UPS trying to acquire capacities and undercut DHL s price, price has dropped 5% each year from 1985 to 1990 by estimation, with extreme drops in some markets. The contribution of each local operation was calculated by subtracting local costs from revenue. This implies that, the P L is calculated by deducting the cost incurred within their region from the revenue of that region. Revenue is recognized at the location where a shipment was originated. This system is unreasonable in the sense that it did not consider the costs to other country operations of delivery and whether the selling price was sufficient to cover the cost of pickup, line haul, hub transfer, delivery, and headquarters overhead and management costs. Therefore, a region s revenue is not being matched with its costs. Its real cost should include all costs along the way of sending its documents or parcels to their destinations. For regions with higher incoming traffic, this system assigns a higher cost to it. The higher cost will distort management s incentive to maximize profit. If use MR=MC to calculate optimal price, the region s MC will become higher than its real MC, resulting in a higher price, and it is not the real profit maximizing price. So, in order to provide the incentive for management to carry out a price that maximize the profit, the cost accounting structure must be changed. The company must find out the cost at each step of the transporting, and then add them up to get the total MC of a certain route. This requires DHL to improve its accounting IT system PRISM. Impacted Wisdom Teeth Your third molars, aka wisdom teeth, develop in your late teens, but are so far back in your mouth that they often cannot erupt properly. This is so common that the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons says that 90 percent of people have at least one wisdom tooth that is impacted. Dentists frequently recommend their removal because they can become infected, cause gum problems or damage neighboring teeth. While millions of people have their wisdom teeth extracted each year, the Academy of General Dentistry explains that even though these are more difficult extractions, most everyone heals without problems and is back in commission within a few days. However, one common complication that can extend your recovery time is a dry socket. • 14. Organizational Behavior and Leadership Style Organizational Behavior and Leadership Style Abstract: This paper examines the leadership position I would occupy in the fictional Commerzbank and details the leadership style I would take on as their VP of Development. As VP, I would emphasize a transformational leadership style, as that style would encourage my members of staff and the company at large to evolve to their highest potential. I would also encourage an atmosphere of transparency for the good of the company at large. I would also incorporate emotionally intelligent leadership, so as to foster an environment of acceptance and teamwork. These factors would no doubt bolster the development of the company, driving it into the next century. If I were working for a company such as Commerzbank AG and were able to select the position that I felt best suited me, I would select the job as VP of development. Such a position would give me more power and autonomy than a manager, but would still allow me to oversee and supervise the members of staff in my department as managers do. The biggest draw of this position would be its ability to direct the company towards innovation and expansion. Just as Steve jobs and his think tank of engineers were able to make Apple into one of the most creative, profitable and desirable companies that this century has ever known, a strong VP who s prepared to take risks and think in a distinct and original way, will be able to push the company light years forward just as Steve Jobs did ... As of right now euthanasia is illegal in many countries and is a very controversial topic. Is it compassion for the patient helping them in ending their life or murder? The doctor is not giving death as an option, it is the patients choice and even where it is legal there are many rules. Euthanasia should not be considered a crime because the patient is not being murdered; they are having their suffering end in a painless, humane way out of compassion for the patient and their family. Dr. Jack Kevorkian more commonly known as Dr. Death is greatly known for his opinion that euthanasia should be legalized and his work with patients seeking help. He was very important in showing euthanasia and voicing his opinion on the subject so the public could not ignore the importance of the matter. Dr. Kevorkian was said to have been involved with 130 suicides by patients who wanted to end their own lives (Nicol and Wylie 17). He had two machines he used to help the patients, one an injection and the other a mask, however both machines were operated by the patient and although Dr. Kevorkian was taken to court many times for these he was not convicted because the patient was in control. He was very careful as to not actually commit the act himself until he was contacted by Thomas Youk, a young with Lou Gheric s disease; Lou Gheric s disease is when the muscle stop working and eventually the patient chokes to death. Tom s condition prevented him from actually operating the machines and therefore Dr. Kevorkian decided that he would operate the machine himself because he cared greatly about all his patients and could not let Tom live in his constant fear (Nicol and Wylie 11). • 25. Analysis Of `` House Of Sand And Fog `` By Andre Dubus IIi Alienation Throughout the novel House of Sand and Fog by Andre Dubus III, the recurring theme of alienation takes its toll on the lives of the two main characters: Kathy and Behrani. We see how the isolation of both characters not only has an effect on them, but also on the lives of others who matter most to them. Alienation is the act of being withdrawn or isolated from a life in which one is accustomed or should be accustomed to. The incidents of alienation demonstrated in the novel include, the relationship between each character and their families, Behrani and his family being forced out of their home country and living in America, and Kathy getting evicted from her family house. As we see these events occur throughout the book, we also learn that both characters will do whatever it takes to claim ownership of what they both call home. This drawn out battle over a piece of property ends up putting Kathy along with Lester behind bars, and with Behrani losing his son in the process. Dubus illustrates many scenes where both Kathy and Behrani isolate themselves from their families. For example, when Kathy is at the motel reminiscing of her phone calls with her mother, we see how Kathy alienates herself from her family when she notes how after Nick left, she would start lying about how well he was doing at his new job and how this used to be true (44). There have been many research studies done by the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism that prove this to be true. Binge drinking is drinking with the purpose of getting drunk, and is the most common form of alcohol consumption while it is also the most dangerous. There have been numerous researches by other organizations and scientists that have demonstrated just how dangerous underage drinking can be. These facts cannot be denied and further the belief that underage drinking is very serious and dangerous. Not only does a person run the risk of being arrested for illegal activity, a person can also be harmed. The true problem in this situation is that many people do not realize just how dangerous underage drinking can be. A night simply meant for laughs and dancing with friends can lead to much more. There may not be any immediate consequences. There may not even be consequences with the law. However, the danger is very real. Underage drinking is very common in the United States. Alcohol is the most commonly used and abused drug in the United States, even more so than illicit drugs (Marijuana, Cocaine, etc...) and tobacco. In 2012 the National Survey on Drug Use and Health reported that 24% of youth aged 12 to 20 years drink alcohol and 15% reported binge drinking. This question has been central to comparative political economy for many years. However, most answers to it focus on institutions in a single sphere of the political economy. In economics, there are large but separate literatures on labor and financial markets. One explores the impact of labor regulations, social regimes, and trade unions on growth or unemployment (Nickell 1997; OECD 1994; Calmfors/ Driffil 1988). The other considers the effects of accounting standards, the legal standing of owners or creditors, ownership patterns, and equity or bank based finance on levels of investment or growth (Carlin/Mayer 1999a, 1999b; LaPorta et al. 1998a; Huang/Xu 1999; Mayer 1996). A similar separation is evident in political science. Although neocorporatism can be defined in broad terms (cf. Katzenstein 1985; Schmitter/Lehmbruch 1978), analyses of its economic impact usually focus on the organization of the trade union movement, considering its interaction mainly with the partisanship of governance (Cameron 1984; Alvarez et al. 1991; Garrett 1999).1 An entirely different literature examines the structure of financial systems (Verdier 2000; Cox 1986; Zysman 1984).2 However, there are good reasons to expect interaction effects among institutions across spheres of the political economy. The Nurse designates that Jason is the reason that Medea has committed such horrible crimes. In the first scene, the Nurse spoke, Served always Jason. Surely this doth bind, Through all ill days, the hurts of humankind, When man and woman is one music move. But now, the world is angry, and true love Sick with poison. Jason doth forsake My mistress and his own sons to make His couch in a king s chamber (Euripides 2). Euripides masterly uses powerful word choices, different sentence lengths, informal grammar, rhythm and a dramatic tone to convey his message. This was customary for that time in Greek literature, specifically for the theater. The Chores role is to evoke empathy, instruction and clarify Medea s mentality throughout the play. The principal plot motivation for Jason, who is an opportunist with a mission to acquire prominence, to discards Medea and his sons in order to marry the king s daughter. Which leads to Medea s objective to destroy Jason and all that he loved. More conflict arises when the King Creon tells Medea to take her sons and leave his kingdom forever. Finally, there is a need to align Information Technology (IT) with the business strategy. IT here is treated as a back office support (Allen Morton, 1994). In addition, employees will be trained and their functions are designed specifically. As a result, the most important issue in this model is to determine the strategic vision and to handle the problems of implementation. According to figure2, in contrast, in the MIT strategic model of change and fit, an emergent perspective , the components are more interrelated. The strategic fit attempts to align the organization with its external environment and to manage the internal resources to meet that alignment (Miyamoto, Kudo and Iizuka, 2014). In terms of strategic change, the business strategy is being shaped gradually and is an outcome instead of a driver. In terms of IT, IT becomes an integrated part of a firm s key business process. • 37. The Prince And Discourse On Livy In his famous works, The Prince and Discourse on Livy, Machiavelli meticulously discusses the importance of religion in the formation and maintaining a political order. Machiavelli regards religion as a political tool used by political elites for political purposes. He argues that the appearance of religion is good while the practice of it is harmful. One of the memorable passage from the Prince that supports Machiavelli s claim is when he advices the prince to not to be good, and the prince should cultivate the appearance of the religion if he wants to maintain his state. The prince, he writes, should appear all mercy, all faith, all honesty, all human, all religion he adds and nothing is more necessary to have than this last quality (The Prince, 70). Here, Machiavelli argues, in order for the prince to maintain his state, it is necessary for the prince to go to the source of morality and by this he means religion. Thus, Machiavelli view on religion is nothing but a necessary tool for maintaining a political authority. Furthermore, Machiavelli stresses the importance of the religion as a political mean to control and govern the masses. In the Discourse on Livy, Machiavelli uses the example of how Numa the founder of Roman religion, manipulates the Roman people by using religion to maintain order and peace. Machiavelli praises the wisdom of Numa for inventing a religion to control a very ferocious Romans. In praising Numa, Machiavelli writes: As he found a very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. High Costs And Risk Of War By James Fearon James Fearon aims to shed light on the question why conflicts occur despite high costs for the actors involved and an uncertainty of outcome. He employs a rationalist explanation with states as main actors not the international system. The high costs and risk of war create an ex post inefficient, which should provide motivation for rational states to find an other way of solving their differences which would be preferable to a open conflict (Fearon 1995: 380). Yet despite the awareness of the negative outcome and thus an incentive to avoid it, wars between states occur and this creates the central Puzzel for Fearons theory (Fearon 1995: 383). The ex post inefficiency of war opens up an ex ante bargaining range (Fearon 1995: 390). This bargaining range expands between the two preferred outcome of the two opposing states. Between the two preferred outcomes a continuous range for peaceful settlements exists (Fearon 1995: 389). Both states have a bargaining range with possible solutions bound by expected utility of war as well as by the costs and risks of fighting (Fearon 1995: 388). ... The Personalistic vs. the Naturalistic Viewpoint As far back as the time when man first discovered ways to communicate with one another he has attempted to understand and explain the course of historical events. In considering the historical development of scientific psychology two main views of the historical progress the field of science have emerged: personalistic theory and naturalistic theory. The personalistic theory often times called the great man theory holds that a chosen few individuals are unique in that they are endowed with an extraordinary inner quality giving them the ability to do extraordinary things. Machines were now becoming familiar to people from all walks of life all over Western Europe. They were becoming an accepted way of life. The most important of all these machines to the history of modern psychology was the mechanical clock. Clocks at this time were sensational and amazing and had an enormous influence on human thought throughout all of society. They captured the essence of the doctrine of mechanism which was the underlying philosophy and the zeitgeist of the seventeenth century. The theory of mechanism held that natural processes were mechanically determined and could be explained through the sciences of physics and chemistry. It led the prominent thinkers to imagine and explain the universe in terms of operating as a great machine predictable, precise, and regular. Clocks shared these same characteristics, therefore, they became models of the universe for scientists and philosophers. One of the most noted philosophers agreeing with this idea was Rene Descartes(1596 1650). Descartes was born the second child in a family of two sons and one daughter on March 31, 1596 in France. Presidency Essay Presidency Although it is often said that the President of the United States holds the most powerful office in the world, this does not mean that he is able to decide very much for himself. The American Constitution, which was adapted in 1789, clearly states the Separation of Powers. Thus, the president makes up only one third of the government, namely the executive branch. He is also controlled by a complex system of checks and balances, which makes sure that he (or any of the other branches, for that matter) does not become too powerful. We will now have a look at the different problems which may be facing a recently elected president, and then discuss to what extent his powers are important. The first and foremost problem is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Congress is of course often the most serious problem to a new president. It is after all the legislative branch of government, and passes both ordinary and tax bills. Another important element worth mentioning here, is the huge amount of lobbying which goes on in America. Private associations and companies, that officially do not have any power, gain a lot of influence through the persuasion of congressmen(and women) or/and senators. One example is the National Rifle Association (NRA), which has so far succeeded in destroying any attempt to introduce gun control in America. Another one is how the powerful insurance companies helped to kill President Clinton s welfare reform a couple of years ago. In the US system of checks and balances, the Supreme Court is also very powerful. They are able to create a lot of trouble for the president if they want to, as they have the so called power of judicial review. This means that they can declare any law or presidential act unconstitutional. The Supreme Court Justices are appointed for life, and the president has therefore no means of controlling them, unless they resign voluntarily or die. The balance between liberal and conservative justices here, is therefore of course subject to a lot of interest, and the president has good reasons in maintaining a harmonious relation to the Supreme Court. With the loss of dream in their current situation the students were able posses their dreams through books. In order to create your dream you must engulf yourself in a novel. The root biomass of this plant is smaller in comparison with the biomass of the same plant s root in a region where there is no genetic relatedness. Regardless of the growth environment, it was predicted that plants will compete equally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This provides evidence not only for the ability of certain plants to identify their relatives but the mutual influence on their fitness. In this context, a recent paper reported that plants of the annual Cakile edentula are able to identify kin in competitive settings and, more importantly, react by competing less aggressively against a close relative (Dudley File 2007). When individuals were grown in pots with close relatives, root biomass, a surrogate of below ground competitive ability, was lower than in individuals grown in the vicinity of strangers (Dudley File 2007). This citation provides the basis for why the researchers might predict a variation in fitness due to relatedness. If the plants forego maximizing individual fitness in favour of reducing competition between relatives this would affect overall group fitness. Previous fieldwork with this species also suggests that kin selection may be a major selective force in the most genetically structured groups of C. edentula plants (Donohue 2003). This citation states the potential for kin selection to significantly influence both individual and group fitness. Therefore, relatedness could have major implications on group success. 4.
