This can also refer to the demographical segmentation, because a person s lifestyle is determined
by factors like age, gender and location.
Beyond the Bean has a very wide range of potential customers. It is appropriate for any lifestyle.
Whether you are young of old, male or female, everyone needs entertainment and social interaction.
Behavioral:
This type of segmentation is about the buying behavior of the consumers. In this case, it is about
how people behave in terms of entertainment and social interaction.
This graph shows the size of the entertainment industry. It shows that, even in the economic crisis,
the market still remained constant, which is very remarkable. This shows that entertainment is a
must for people, and that they spend money on it, even when the economy is not at its best.
Customer Needs
Humans have various needs, physical, social and individual. They have the need to interact with
others and to entertain themselves. Beyond the Bean offers these needs by providing people the
opportunity to have a drink and/or to play games together.
Competitor Analysis
Strategy
Greig and Peck have already done some research about who their competitors will be. They see
Fleetway and Palasad North as their direct competitors and Tim Hortons, Starbucks and William s
Coffee Pub as their indirect competitors.
A marketing strategy involves two key questions:

The Empire Strikes Back
I am currently a Film Production MFA student at Full Sail University. As a child I went to see
The Empire Strikes Back when it was first released. I was in such awe of the film that I knew I
wanted to make movies myself. Irvin Kirschner s name became more important to me as I got
older. He once said, I want films to haunt an audience, to give them something to remember and be
able to talk about. It is with this intention that I want to create films.
As my knowledge of filmmaking started to grow, I began learning about story plots and
character development. Sam Mendes reboot of Ian Fleming s James Bond franchise in my eyes
was one of the best story plot developments. Sam Mendes was able to give the James Bond
franchise what it had been missing: a plot. From Casino Royal, Mendes started to breathe new life
into James Bond by having him confront emotions of dealing with love and loss. With Quantum of
Solace, Bond was learning to get over the loss ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite the extreme pressure, he was able to get an Academy nominated performance from Denzel
Washington. The vision I would have had for Malcolm Xwould have been one of realism and
expressionism by showing internal battles with the Nation of Islam and learning the truth about
Muslims from around the world. There are three chapters that are missing from the real
biography of Malcom X, and I would explore that world where Alex Haley was an informant of
the FBI. I would shoot this movie as a docudrama, playing with not only colors, but also shooting
in black and white. This is also where I would explore his history from the foster homes that he
grew up in, the loss of his mother, and his other siblings. His story is much deeper than anyone of
this generation would ever realize, and I would bridge that gap through a new film

Political Philosophy And American Political Thought
I have applied to participate in the Hertog Summer Programs in Classical Political Philosophy
and American Political Thought because of my passion for politics. This passion inspired me to
become commit to the Major in Government at Georgetown University. A professor once gave me
the following definition of politics as, the resolution of conflict among the competing interests of
individuals, groups, and or nations. Therefore, the study of politics in my opinion is the study of
how groups reach consequential decisions and resolve internal conflicts. I am interested in many
dimensions of politics, but I have decided to apply to the Hertog Summer Programs in Classical
Political Theory and American Political Thought because of my interest in the philosophical and
theoretical dimensions of politics. As a participant in the Hertog Summer Programs, I hope to take
an intellectual journey with fellow young scholars and brilliant professors that will deepen my
understanding of the philosophies and values that have informed the America s politics since the
founding of the Articles of Confederation. This intellectual journey will help me to grow as a
person because it will help me to better understand the values and thoughts that have shaped
Western and American politics and the way in which politics affects our lives. I have an interest in
politics because under the broad definition of politics that I mention in the in the first paragraph,

The Area Of Interest, Livestock, Grazing, And Urban And...
Introduction
The area of interest is located in the San Joaquin Valley, California, primarily in the western part
of Fresno County, California. The primary land uses in the region are irrigated cropland,
livestock, grazing, and urban and home development (USDA 2015). Other land uses include
recreation and wildlife habitats. The land survey of the region consists of series of straight lines
delineating fields of crops, typically running north to south. A series of squares dominates the
aerial view of the region. The region experiences hot and dry summers with an average July high
of 92В°F and has historically experienced cool and rainy winters with an average January low of
38В°F which normally lasts between November and April. However,... Show more content on

The rest of the area contains natural areas (trees shrubs) with 15.9% (1,928.1 acres) and water with
0.6% (73.7 acres). In 2014, the gross value of Fresno County agriculture production exceeded
seven billion dollars. Almonds was the number one crop at a value of $1.3 billion and grapes was
a close second at $905 million (County of Fresno, Department of Agriculture 2015). Other important
crops include poultry ($654 million), milk ($636 million), tomatoes ($524 million), pistachios
($378 million), garlic ($202 million), and cotton ($135 million).
The diversity, high total acreage and crop yield are the result of favorable factors; the
Mediterranean climate, long growing seasons, productive soils, and readily available and plentiful
irrigation. Agricultural operations in the area have significant and permanent impact on the
properties and management of the soils in the study area. Farming practices such as land leveling
and irrigation impacts surface soils and deeper soil profiles due to the percolation of irrigation
water. The current drought afflicting the region has increased the number of fallow acres steadily
because of the relative unreliability of the water supply. The lack of surface water availability has
forced farmers to turn more to groundwater to irrigate their crops. The pumping of water from deep
wells and increased consumption of ground water contributes to ground subsidence which in turn,
affects the geomorphology of the

state, in which the Korean people are justly represented worldwide, and in which they can
achieve their full potential. All citizens are allocated food, clothing, and housing, and there are

A Historically Rich City: An Overview of Sacramento s History What does one think of when
given the phrase Wild West? Is it cowboys and Indians? Bar fights? John Wayne perhaps? Despite
various answers, numerous people can agree that the wild west was an eventful and important
time period. The American west had all sorts of people including pioneers, business people,
scouts, lawmen, outlaws, gangs, gunslingers, and cowboys. Most of these people had one thing in
common... they were looking for an opportunity and they weren t afraid of adventure. These
people settled in Wild West towns and changed the land, which played a big role in the

VI.Comparative law According to the pro and contra Section 203D and 203E of the Corporations
Act as above, most judges and scholars agree that the procedure of removal directors as stipulated
in the Corporations Act provides fairness treatment for the directors who may be removed.
However, they still strongly argue whether the Section 203D is mandatory or not. Moreover, they
questioned the existence of Section 203E since it eliminates flexibility for companies to make
decision particularly in the emergency situation as explained above. Therefore, in order to provide
broader perspectives about the relevancy of Section 203D and Section 203E, it is necessary to

Boxer s Role In Animal Farm
He who was unaware
If Comrade Napoleon says it, it must be right And from then on he adopted the maxim, Napoleon
is always right (Orwell,37) becomes a strong point in the way Boxer thinks. So why would
Napoleon feel threatened by him? Boxer takes on the role of one of the strongest animals, both
physically and socially on the farm, which can be seen as a threat.
Boxer is a very large, and tenacious horse, he was muscular and possessed a lot of strength, often
pulling the load of the rest of the animal s work on the farm. He was an extremely valuable
worker, who even used much of his free time for work on the farm, as shown, Boxer would even

It was feared by Napoleon, that Boxer had the capability to overthrow him if he wished to. Given
that Boxer was admired and respected by all, he could potentially gather all the animals and initiate
his own rebellion against Napoleon. Moreover, Boxer had great difficulty in thinking for
himself, which, at first, may be seen as a reason to not be regarded as a threat. However, if
Boxer contains a concept that can be dangerous towards Napoleon, that could by any chance,
pass on negative thoughts and manifest an uprising. At one point, Boxer does start up his own
argument, on how Snowball is or is not a traitor of Animal Farm. By saying I do not believe that
Snowball was a traitor at the beginning, he said finally. What he has done since is different. But
I believe that at the Battle of the Cowshed he was a good comrade. (Orwell,55) in reference to
Squealer trying to convince the animals that Snowball has been a part of a scheme. After Boxer s
dispute, Napoleon attempted to slaughter him with his dogs, but Boxer saw them coming and put
out his great hoof, caught a dog in mid air and pinned him to the ground. The dog shrieked for
mercy and the other two fled with their tails between their legs. (Orwell,56) indicates how
immensely strong Boxer was, and could not be taken down easily, which of course, could now be

Project Manager s Role On Construction Project Essay
Part 1. Investigation
1.The project manager plays a vital role on the construction project, from the very beginning of its
initiation and planning to execution, to completion and handing over the complete project to the
client. The project manager identifies and select the discrete processes to meet the project objective
and target, considering the constituting inputs and outputs for the process (Project Management
Institute, 2013). The project manager should be perceptive, well informed and should show
keenness to the project for its timely delivery, under the targeted cost, reliable and durable quality,
as projects are financial investments and a successful project gains the trust of client (Heerkens,
2014). The project manager is required to perform better than the past, which would be achieved
by learning by doing. The project manager will not be able to complete the project without a team.
The project manager should make a team and take all the responsibility like a team leader for the
successful delivery of the project (Heerkens, 2014). Before starting the project, the project manager
should breakdown the project into measurable tasks, inter linking the tasks, allocating time to each
task, assigning tools, techniques, human resources to each tasks for its successful completion
(Tinnirello, 1999).
2.The project management processes consists of discrete and identifiable elements, and activities.

Assess The Difference Between Conductive Reasoning And...
The first concepts I learned about in this chapter are the deductive and inductive reasoning. As
developing techniques such as both deductive and inductive reasoning is an important portion of
becoming a critical thinker. So what is deductive reasoning? Deductive reasoning is structured in
such a way as to give as to give us certainty about what it true in a given situation. The conclusions
certainty is established when deductive arguments contain true premises reasons stated in the
correct form (Diestler 2012). So basically, deductive reasoningis taking some set of data or facts
and using that to come up with other deducting facts. When using deductive reasoning its

Therefore, you start to think out of the box and having different opinions it can allow you to have
better decision making skills in choosing better life choices for yourselves. In the video that was

using math. In decision making mathematics share the same language, in you have problems that
need to be solved. Therefore, you look at the factors that you re going away against each other so

numbers. The experiment was to see if the math could predict the volunteers which consist of the

the decision before hand seem to have given the guys more confidence to approach and talk to

Exploitation Of Mining In South Africa
Mines bring benefits but they are not equally spread
South Africa is world leading in mining. The discovery of minerals in this country has attractive
many investors and has been the backbone of the country s economy leading to many benefits that
the people of South Africa could take advantage of. However, not all the benefits are shared equally,
and there is a lot of exploitation surrounding the mining sector. This essay will be discussing the
issues surrounding the labour exploitation in the mines and the resulting consequences.
According to the Mining Intelligence Database, the mining sector employs over one million
people and spends over R78 billion in wages and salaries (The Role of Mining in the South
African Economy, 2015), and importantly, it is one of the few sector that employs unskilled and
semi skilled people.
There are lots of benefits that surround the mining sector. Not just the impact it would have on the
economy, but other factors as well. An economic impact it has is that communities will receive
revenue when mines are being established, this bring about a change and development in the local
community. This is crucial especially in areas where they had little revenue coming, the mines will
bring in a huge change in that environment.
Another perspective to look at it is that social impact mining has. Though it can be difficult to
separate the economic impact from the social, because many social issues are the result of poverty.
Meaning that if the mining

Linguistic intelligence includes the capability to use, speak and learn languages and words. Logical
Mathematic intelligence is the skill of working proficiently with numbers. Musical intelligence is

When asked what season of the year, you would arrive at the conclusion that it is winter.
Availability Heuristics is when we base a conclusion or decision on the first thing that comes to
mind (Roberts, 2006). For example, if you were asked what disease affects cigarette smokers
most often? The first thing that comes to our mind is cancer because it is the disease that is
spoken of most often in association with cigarettes. However, according to the American Heart

Essay On Allegory Of Women In The Victorian Era
The Victorian Age was defined by Queen Victoria s reign from 1837 to 1901. In the 19th century,
England became the first industrializes nation. During this period education and literacy became
extremely important, one reason being that Queen Victoria was pro women s education. With
literacy becoming an integral part of this era, poetry began to grow. This era began prose of
controversial debates and uncounted poems and events involved beauty and emotions. Educating
children and women became very crucial in this period. Numerous writers such as Tennyson,
husband, and wife Robert and Elizabeth Browning, Christina Rossettiand brother Dante Rossetti
had risen during this time and brought poetry and writing in a new light. I wanted to dissect the
society s view of fallen women during this era by using Christina Rossetti s Goblin Market, Dante
Rossetti s Jenny , and Anonymous The Great Social Evil . As Merriam Webster s Dictionary
states, an allegory is a symbolic representation or the expression by means of symbolic fictional
figures and actions of truths or generalizations about human existence. The fallen women allegory
was the most appealing. The allegory of fallen women came about during the Victorian Erawith
prostitutes growing as a profession. There were at least 300 thousand prostitutes during this period,
multiple young women chose this profession because some were disowned, seen as corrupted, or
felt that this profession paid the greatest so that they could

Sunnis compromise 85% of Muslims. Sunni Islam believes that the caliph ideally is the selected
or elected successor of the prophet. He serves only as the political military leader of the
community, not as prophet. Sunnis also believe that the early successes of Islam and the power of
its rulers were signs of god s guidance, rewards to a faithful community that were seen as historic
validation of Muslim belief and claims.
The Shiah are the followers of Ali, Muhammad s Cousin. They believe that leadership should stay
in the family of the prophet and thus pass to its senior male member, Ali. They were thwarted
twice: when Ali wasn t appointed as the first caliph and when Muawiya seized the caliphate from
Ali. Later on, they convinced Husayn, the son of Ali, to lead a rebellion against Yazid, Muawiya s
son. However, Husayn didn t get the support they promised him and thus was slaughtered by the
Ummayad army at the city of Karbala. This martyrdom resulted in the emergence of ... Show more

The word Sufism comes from the coarse woolen garment worn by many of these early ascetics.
They reject dependence on the things of this world. They want to return to the purity and
simplicity of the prophet s time. They re known for detachment from the material world,
repentance for sins, fear of god and the last judgment and selfless devotion to the fulfillment of
God s will. Despite the official Islamic belief that Muhammad was only a human being and not a
miracle worker, his central role as the ideal model of Muslim life had generated stories of the
prophet s extraordinary powers. In Sufism these stories mushroomed and were extended to Sufi
saints, the friends or protГ©gГ©s of god, who are said to have had the power to bilocate, cure the

M3_Assignment 1: LASA 2: The Apportionment Problem

Abstract
This essay determine how 100 congressional seats should be divided among the 10 states of the
union. The number of seats in a state should (in any fair distribution) be proportional to its ratio in
the population. Therefore rounding according to some (acceptable) rule should be applied.
Below you will see the table showing the Hamilton method of apportionment to determine the
number of seats each state would receive.
Hamilton Method (Named for Alexander Hamilton) Implementing this method is a three step
procedure.
1) Calculate each state s representation and round each one down.
2) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Huntington Hill Method is a modified version of the Webster method, but it uses a slightly
different rounding method. While Webster s method rounds at 0.5, the Huntington Hill method
rounds at the geometric mean. If a state s quotient is higher than its geometric mean, it will be
allocated an additional seat. This method will almost always result in the desired number of seats
which helps to avoid an Alabama Paradox.
Apportionment can achieve both a fair and unfair representation giving the research I have done on
this assignment. It also depends on the apportionment method in which is used that also plays a
factor in your results.
For optimal fairness measures I believe that the Huntington Hill method displays the most fairness.
Giving the example that ai and Pi are the number of seats for state i and its population, respectively.
Then I would look at the measurements by the given fairness formula.
For the measure |ai aj(Pi/Pj)| Adams method is optimal.
For the measure |Pj/aj Pi/ai| Dean s method is optimal.
For the measure |(ai/aj)(Pi/Pj) 1| Huntington Hill is optimal.
For the measure |ai/Pi aj/Pj| Webster is optimal.
For the measure |ai(Pj/Pi) aj| Jefferson s method is optimal.
As you can see, it might not be obvious that these seemingly similar measures of absolute fairness
would give rise to such different methods to

The Forbidden Romantic Love Between Romeo And Juliet Essay
The forbidden romantic love between Romeo and Juliet.
By Ashleigh Moseley.
Year 10 English: Mrs Shaw.
For this anthology about love I have chosen, and mainly centred around the topic of love that is
forbidden. With this type of love, comes many struggles and questions that I m sure must go
through the minds of people in this situation. This is what happens with Romeo and Juliet in the
Play written by William Shakespeare in 1591. It will be a romance that will strongly challenge
them, but as we see it will not break the bond of love they have for each other. In this task I will try
to describe the pain, happiness, frustration, forgiveness, anger, and joy through a collection of
shorts texts that come with the topic of persecuted, and forbidden love.
Author unknown.
Juliet is willing to love Romeo no matter what. I think that this short poem describes the nature
of their love very well. This is how they think, act and live out their love for each other. I noticed
that the words in this poem: you are my best friend, my human diary my other half , picture how
they feel about each other in a really clear way. Both from families that hate each other, yet they
treat each other as if they are there only hope.... Their best friend, the diary with which they right
they feelings for each other. This I feel clearly describes what it must feel like to love dearly

What Are The Core Values In Beowulf
When first reading Beowulf, or even before that, many people often cringe at the idea of having to
analyze, process, and understand Old English stories from the Anglo Saxon period. Along with the
frustrations of comprehending just a sentence, sometimes the deeper meanings and overall image
of the story can get lost. In the case of Beowulf, this story is no exception. However, not only is this
Anglo Saxon story a heroic tale of a brave warrior who fights evil, but in reading the tales of
Beowulf, it gives us a way to compare our own lifestyle and core values, to those of the warriors
and people of that area.
In our modern world, we associate warriors to be a variety of people who face challenges that far
exceed those of the average human. Who have to face their fears and, to some extent, the
possibility of losing their lives. To us humans, not only are these the (courageous) criterias of being
a warrior, but we also expect them to be humble, selfless, and not to be arrogant or boastful about
their achievements. Yet unlike our society today, however, cultural traditions and expectations from
society back in the Anglo Saxon period were quite different, if not the opposite, in the ways
warriors acted and held themselves in society.
After first being introduced to Beowulf and his men, many readers would probably agree with the
fact of being surprised by their appearance and first impressions when they came to Denmark. For
starters, the idea of Beowulf and his fellow warriors

The Collapse of Hih В– Solvency and Audit Risk
The Collapse of HIH В– Solvency and Audit Risk
Following the collapse of HIH, considerable debate, comment and speculation have arisen regarding
whether and at what point HIH became insolvent. When a company is close to insolvency, the risk
associated with auditing that company is considerably higher than for one that is solvent. This
report investigates methods of determining insolvency, the roles of directors and auditors, and the
level of audit risk associated with HIH prior to its collapse.
There is general agreement that the concept of solvency relates to having the capacity to meet debts
as they fall due. An insurance company is solvent if it is able to fulfil its obligations under all
contracts at any time (or at least under most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cross guarantees exist where a subset of companies in the corporate group (the closed group )
guarantee the debts of each other. A regulatory approved Deed of Cross Guarantee has existed in
Australia since 1991. All subsidiaries party to a Deed of Cross Guarantee must make a solvency
statement.
HIH and its subsidiary, FAI insurance had cross guarantees in place. As a result of the cross
guarantee, HIH adopted a group enterprise perspective when attesting to its regulatory solvency
position. The company treated insurance subsidiaries as if they were part of a singular corporate
group and netted off related company assets and liabilities in several APRA annual returns . This
contributed to the fact that the auditors did not identify that some subsidiaries were potentially
insolvent.
The risk that a company is insolvent is a component of audit risk, which should be taken into
account by auditors. Audit risk is defined as the risk that that the auditor will give an inappropriate
audit opinion when the financial report is materially misstated . Auditors risk issuing an unqualified
audit opinion on financial statements that are materially misstated or omit material transactions;
therefore the procedures used in the audit must be planned according to the identified audit risk.
The components of audit risk are inherent risk, control risk and detection risk.
Inherent risk is the risk that the financial statements contain a material

I have been working as an NP for two years with home bound adults and geriatric patients, and it is
very common to provide treatment for pressure ulcer/skin breakdown/ bedsore. Many of these
patients develop the skin break down after just a short hospital stay, while others develop it in the

immobility and poor nutritional intake. Pressure ulcers have been a significant health problem,
especially among the geriatric population (Jaul, E. (2010).
The presence of a pressure ulcer constitutes a geriatric dilemma, the cause of which is multifactorial.

rapidly to reveal the actual extent of tissue injury, or may resolve without tissue loss (Wolters

Level of measurement for the result is ordinal where stage 0 1 means no skin breakdown.

Lean And Six Sigma Methodologies
Introduction
Lean and Six Sigma are two different methodologies originally designed to meet the demands of
manufacturing companies. Lean was born in the premises of Toyota and their production system.
Lean is about eliminating waste to improve processes. Six Sigma, on the other hand, is a
management methodology that seeks to eliminate variation in processes (Goldsby Martichenko,
2005). Where these two methodologies meet, is in their final goal of process improvement. With
two different ways of implementation, these methodologies complement each other in practice, this
is why many organizations choose to make a multidisciplinary implementation, and apply both Lean
and Six Sigma to achieve better and longer results.
As organizations demands constantly change, they are also continuously looking for ways meet
this demand and improve their business. This is one of the reasons why the Lean and Six Sigma
methodologies have escalated in a significant manner, dabbling into markets that are not the ones
they were created for in the first place, as healthcare.
This paper attempts to present two different implementations of these methodologies. Mayo clinic,
an organization named as the best hospital of the United States; and Caterpillar, an icon of the
construction and mining equipment manufacturing.
What is Lean?
The Lean methodology is a process management methodology that examines and enhance
processes from the customer perspective. It looks to create proceedings that creates

Although now one nation as United States of America, in the past, the nation was divided into
sections: the North and the South. The nation had to go through tragic Civil War to be united and
become successful and grow as one unity. Behind the Civil War there was a gradual increase of
sectional tensions between the North and the South mainly due tothe western expansion.Utilization
of slavery became the main conflict between the North and the South. This essay will focus briefly
on the background of western expansion and how it had contributed to the growing sectionalism. In
1803, President Thomas Jefferson purchased the territory of Louisiana from the French government
also known as the Louisiana Purchase. The Louisiana Purchase stretched from the Mississippi
River to the Rocky Mountains and from Canada to New Orleans, and it doubled the size of the
United States. Jefferson thought westward expansion was the key to the nation s health. In order to
provide enough land to the yeoman (farmers), the United States had to continue to expand.
Jefferson believed that western expansion would fill up the empty lands with immigrants and
provide enough lands for the farmers, so he decided to support the western expansion. ... Show more

The Victorian era, spanning from 1830 1901, was a period of dramatic change with the rapid

Both vastness and ocean make the reader feel lost and fearful of the unknown activities and size
of the room. Other words like mystery and suggestion add to create the effect of fear and

haunted , spectral and subterranean are piled on the reader to create a sense of fear, vulnerability
and death.
Next is The Signalman by Charles Dickens, which is about a visit from a ghost. The setting for this
story is very old, depressing, dingy and gloomy but the scenery around the signalman isn t
reflected in his personality. His box is located underground next to the railway line. Straight
away the setting seems to be weird as it s descending down, as if almost entering hell, zigzag
path descending down . I think this because most nice stairways are straight and go up, not
uneven. The writer also describes the place as a great dungeon ; this says to me that it s a place
of death and torture because those are the words I would think of when dungeon is mentioned.
Also it says there was a gloomy red light, and the gloomier entrance to a black, in whose massive
architecture there was a barbourus, depressing and forbidding air . This makes the reader think that

The Theory Of The General Will
Rousseau is theorizing from the concept of the general will, which promotes individuals to
become conscious citizens who actively participate as a community to form policies for a
governing structure. The general will advocates for a commitment to generality, a common
interest that will unite all citizens for the benefit of all. Rousseau states, each one of us puts into
the community his person and all his powers under the supreme direction of the general will;
and as a body, we incorporate every member as an indivisible part of the whole (Rousseau 61). The
general will is an expression of the law that is superior to an individual s desires because it is shared

Emerson is theorizing from his experience of citizenship and is therefore unable to recognize the
marginalization of black people across America, regardless if they are free or are enslaved. In
his speech against the Fugitive Salve Law, Emerson argues that, there are really two nations, the
North and the South. It is not slavery that severs them, it is climate and temperament (Emerson).
Emerson s judgment derives from the notion that he was not participating in the practice of
slavery due to his geographic location. As a member of the collectively anti slavery north,
Emerson argued that he was nit politically implicated to act against the legality of slavery
because it did not affect him personally in the north. Emerson s indifference to the politics of the
south reveals a kind of privilege that is inherent to white citizens, but not black citizens or
enslaved people. Emerson s privilege allows him to engage as a good democratic citizen only when
he provokes to act by personal affects.
Conversely, Douglass theorizes from the position of a free black man, a citizen who is politically
implicated by every law, despite his geographic location. For Douglass, politics implicate every
part of a citizen s life and therefore political contradictions, such as slavery, are fundamental to the
character of every good democratic citizen. He does not possess the

William Cronon in his Only Connect article broke down what a liberal arts education should
provide me and every other student in order to be the change. The ten characteristics are the
following: they listen and they hear, they read and they understand, they can talk with anyone,
they can write clearly and persuasively and movingly, they can solve a wide variety of puzzles and
problems, they respect rigor as a way of seeking truth, they practice humility, tolerance, and self
criticism, they understand how to get things done, they nurture and empower the people around
them, and only connect. With the goal of being a good teacher, I am going to emphasize a couple
the characteristics from the list above that I want to master in order to be the best teacher my
students can have.
The first characteristic he mentions is they listen and they hear . An educated student should be
able to block out the noise and business swarming around them, and concentrate on the person they
are listening to. Not only should I be able to follow along when a student is talking, but understand
the deep value of the student as a human being. When the importance of another s life is
considered, the importance of what they are saying increases. I want to be a teacher who takes
time for her students to tell them about their weekend or a problem at home. I want to be able to
listen and hear what they are saying.

The Writings Of Olaudah Equiano And Elizabeth Keckley
Autobiographical Similarities
The writings of Olaudah Equiano and Elizabeth Keckley are of the highest admiration. As they
spoke on their experiences with an intoxicating mixture of vibrancy and precision, they allowed the
reader to come along for the journey without getting lost. Most commendable, is that the writers
were able to leave subtle hints that would foreshadow their fortunes meticulously in efforts to keep
the readers engaged. There is a vital point to highlight from the workings of both authors how
humble and vulnerable their writings maintained as they were written during the peak of their
success. Therefore, the common theme is how they foreshadow their success without neglecting to
pay homage to where they came from. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In her first chapter appropriately named Where I was Born , Keckley mentions that she was not
only born a slave but refers to slavery in a unique way that offers a hint of foreshadowing. She
mentions I was but a child myself only four years old but then I had been raised in a hardy
school had been taught to rely upon myself, and to prepare myself to render assistance to others
(Gates Jr. Smith, 311). What is so profound about that statement is that hardy school was a
double entendre used to refer to slavery. Hence, the idea that slavery taught her independence
which she carried with her throughout her life. As it pertains to her writing, slavery also
equipped her with the poise she presented both in her demeanor and in her work as a renowned
seamstress. Another detail that Equiano incorporated within his writing, is the meaning of his
name. As he says in the text I was named Olaudah, which, in our language, signifies vicissitude
or fortune also, one favoured, and having a loud voice and well spoken (Gates Jr. Smith 121).
Equiano was a man who was the youngest born son to village leaders who owned slaves, became
a captive of slavery himself, briefly worked in the fields as a slave before following his master
overseas and ultimately buying his own freedom. What s most profound throughout that, is the fact
that he used his voice to help others who are stuck where he was able to break free. PBS has an

Christian Dior s Influence On Fashion
Christian Dior was a dominating force in the fashion industry starting in 1947, he created the new
look which altered the female silhouette and strayed from the wartime fabric restrictions following
World War II. Dior was a man at the right place and at the right time, he brought beauty and
glamour back into the dull clothingworn during and after the war and re established Paris as the
epicenter of Haute Couture. Dior exploded onto the Paris fashionscene and reintroduced femininity
and focus on luxury to women s fashion (Christian Dior, n.d.). In a growing world of ready to

released the destroyers to provide support to the troops on the beaches and on top of the bluffs. This
support This support helped to both establish and maintain the American beach head at Omaha
Beach. The units that were supposed to come ashore before the first wave were special tanks
called DD, or Duplex Drive, tanks. These tanks, especially in the case of Omaha Beach, either
sank before or were destroyed as they came ashore. The loss of these tanks meant that the troops
landing on Omaha Beach would not have any close support from heavy weapons. ONce the
troops began to land, this became a serious problem which the destroyers of the Allied armada

The Effects Of Genetical Modified Organisms ( Gmo )
Genetical Modified Organisms (GMO s) are created when scientists manipulate an organism s
genes to create a new strain of species with similarities but also differences from the original
species. Zika is spread through a type of mosquito called Aedes aegypti also known as yellow
fever mosquito. These mosquitos originated from Africa and came to the United States through
ships. The mosquitos tend to stay in tropical and sub tropical parts of the world including
Argentina to the southern parts of the United States. These mosquitos go through a complete life
cycle going from egg to larva to pupa to an adult and the life cycle in all takes about 6 weeks to
complete. The Aedes aegyptimosquitois known for carrying yellow feverand now Zika which is
why scientists are trying to genetically modify them to no longer carry these diseases ( Yellow
Fever Mosquito .). GMO s are being used to help contain the spread of Zika and other mosquito
held diseases around the world. Zika was first discovered in mosquitos around 1948 in Africa.
Since its discovery Zika has developed from a mild illness to something that can cause severe
neurological complications in those who have been infected (Musso, et al.,,2016). The increase
numbers of people being effected by Zika and the increase in risks associated with the disease
have led to a curiosity of using GMO s to contain the disease.
The pros of using genetically modified mosquitos to fight Zika are the Zika carrying mosquito

  • 4. The Empire Strikes Back I am currently a Film Production MFA student at Full Sail University. As a child I went to see The Empire Strikes Back when it was first released. I was in such awe of the film that I knew I wanted to make movies myself. Irvin Kirschner s name became more important to me as I got older. He once said, I want films to haunt an audience, to give them something to remember and be able to talk about. It is with this intention that I want to create films. As my knowledge of filmmaking started to grow, I began learning about story plots and character development. Sam Mendes reboot of Ian Fleming s James Bond franchise in my eyes was one of the best story plot developments. Sam Mendes was able to give the James Bond franchise what it had been missing: a plot. From Casino Royal, Mendes started to breathe new life into James Bond by having him confront emotions of dealing with love and loss. With Quantum of Solace, Bond was learning to get over the loss ... The vision I would have had for Malcolm Xwould have been one of realism and expressionism by showing internal battles with the Nation of Islam and learning the truth about Muslims from around the world. There are three chapters that are missing from the real biography of Malcom X, and I would explore that world where Alex Haley was an informant of the FBI. I would shoot this movie as a docudrama, playing with not only colors, but also shooting in black and white. This is also where I would explore his history from the foster homes that he grew up in, the loss of his mother, and his other siblings. His story is much deeper than anyone of this generation would ever realize, and I would bridge that gap through a new film ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This passion inspired me to become commit to the Major in Government at Georgetown University. A professor once gave me the following definition of politics as, the resolution of conflict among the competing interests of individuals, groups, and or nations. Therefore, the study of politics in my opinion is the study of how groups reach consequential decisions and resolve internal conflicts. I am interested in many dimensions of politics, but I have decided to apply to the Hertog Summer Programs in Classical Political Theory and American Political Thought because of my interest in the philosophical and theoretical dimensions of politics. As a participant in the Hertog Summer Programs, I hope to take an intellectual journey with fellow young scholars and brilliant professors that will deepen my understanding of the philosophies and values that have informed the America s politics since the founding of the Articles of Confederation. This intellectual journey will help me to grow as a person because it will help me to better understand the values and thoughts that have shaped Western and American politics and the way in which politics affects our lives. • 6. The Area Of Interest, Livestock, Grazing, And Urban And... Introduction The area of interest is located in the San Joaquin Valley, California, primarily in the western part of Fresno County, California. The primary land uses in the region are irrigated cropland, livestock, grazing, and urban and home development (USDA 2015). Other land uses include recreation and wildlife habitats. The land survey of the region consists of series of straight lines delineating fields of crops, typically running north to south. A series of squares dominates the aerial view of the region. The region experiences hot and dry summers with an average July high of 92В°F and has historically experienced cool and rainy winters with an average January low of 38В°F which normally lasts between November and April. However,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The rest of the area contains natural areas (trees shrubs) with 15.9% (1,928.1 acres) and water with 0.6% (73.7 acres). In 2014, the gross value of Fresno County agriculture production exceeded seven billion dollars. Almonds was the number one crop at a value of $1.3 billion and grapes was a close second at $905 million (County of Fresno, Department of Agriculture 2015). Other important crops include poultry ($654 million), milk ($636 million), tomatoes ($524 million), pistachios ($378 million), garlic ($202 million), and cotton ($135 million). The diversity, high total acreage and crop yield are the result of favorable factors; the Mediterranean climate, long growing seasons, productive soils, and readily available and plentiful irrigation. Agricultural operations in the area have significant and permanent impact on the properties and management of the soils in the study area. Farming practices such as land leveling and irrigation impacts surface soils and deeper soil profiles due to the percolation of irrigation water. The current drought afflicting the region has increased the number of fallow acres steadily because of the relative unreliability of the water supply. The lack of surface water availability has forced farmers to turn more to groundwater to irrigate their crops. The pumping of water from deep wells and increased consumption of ground water contributes to ground subsidence which in turn, affects the geomorphology of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This method will almost always result in the desired number of seats which helps to avoid an Alabama Paradox. What Are The Core Values In Beowulf When first reading Beowulf, or even before that, many people often cringe at the idea of having to analyze, process, and understand Old English stories from the Anglo Saxon period. Along with the frustrations of comprehending just a sentence, sometimes the deeper meanings and overall image of the story can get lost. In the case of Beowulf, this story is no exception. However, not only is this Anglo Saxon story a heroic tale of a brave warrior who fights evil, but in reading the tales of Beowulf, it gives us a way to compare our own lifestyle and core values, to those of the warriors and people of that area. In our modern world, we associate warriors to be a variety of people who face challenges that far exceed those of the average human. Who have to face their fears and, to some extent, the possibility of losing their lives. To us humans, not only are these the (courageous) criterias of being a warrior, but we also expect them to be humble, selfless, and not to be arrogant or boastful about their achievements. Yet unlike our society today, however, cultural traditions and expectations from society back in the Anglo Saxon period were quite different, if not the opposite, in the ways warriors acted and held themselves in society. The Collapse of Hih В– Solvency and Audit Risk The Collapse of HIH В– Solvency and Audit Risk Following the collapse of HIH, considerable debate, comment and speculation have arisen regarding whether and at what point HIH became insolvent. When a company is close to insolvency, the risk associated with auditing that company is considerably higher than for one that is solvent. This report investigates methods of determining insolvency, the roles of directors and auditors, and the level of audit risk associated with HIH prior to its collapse. There is general agreement that the concept of solvency relates to having the capacity to meet debts as they fall due. Cross guarantees exist where a subset of companies in the corporate group (the closed group ) guarantee the debts of each other. A regulatory approved Deed of Cross Guarantee has existed in Australia since 1991. All subsidiaries party to a Deed of Cross Guarantee must make a solvency statement. HIH and its subsidiary, FAI insurance had cross guarantees in place. As a result of the cross guarantee, HIH adopted a group enterprise perspective when attesting to its regulatory solvency position. The company treated insurance subsidiaries as if they were part of a singular corporate group and netted off related company assets and liabilities in several APRA annual returns . This contributed to the fact that the auditors did not identify that some subsidiaries were potentially insolvent. The risk that a company is insolvent is a component of audit risk, which should be taken into account by auditors. Audit risk is defined as the risk that that the auditor will give an inappropriate audit opinion when the financial report is materially misstated . Auditors risk issuing an unqualified audit opinion on financial statements that are materially misstated or omit material transactions; therefore the procedures used in the audit must be planned according to the identified audit risk. The components of audit risk are inherent risk, control risk and detection risk. Inherent risk is the risk that the financial statements contain a material ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. Lean And Six Sigma Methodologies Introduction Lean and Six Sigma are two different methodologies originally designed to meet the demands of manufacturing companies. Lean was born in the premises of Toyota and their production system. Lean is about eliminating waste to improve processes. Six Sigma, on the other hand, is a management methodology that seeks to eliminate variation in processes (Goldsby Martichenko, 2005). Where these two methodologies meet, is in their final goal of process improvement. With two different ways of implementation, these methodologies complement each other in practice, this is why many organizations choose to make a multidisciplinary implementation, and apply both Lean and Six Sigma to achieve better and longer results. As organizations demands constantly change, they are also continuously looking for ways meet this demand and improve their business. This is one of the reasons why the Lean and Six Sigma methodologies have escalated in a significant manner, dabbling into markets that are not the ones they were created for in the first place, as healthcare. This paper attempts to present two different implementations of these methodologies. Mayo clinic, an organization named as the best hospital of the United States; and Caterpillar, an icon of the construction and mining equipment manufacturing. What is Lean? Sectional Tension Research Paper Sectional Tensions G11 Elvis Park AP US History 2015/11/23 Although now one nation as United States of America, in the past, the nation was divided into sections: the North and the South. The nation had to go through tragic Civil War to be united and become successful and grow as one unity. Behind the Civil War there was a gradual increase of sectional tensions between the North and the South mainly due tothe western expansion.Utilization of slavery became the main conflict between the North and the South. This essay will focus briefly on the background of western expansion and how it had contributed to the growing sectionalism. In 1803, President Thomas Jefferson purchased the territory of Louisiana from the French government also known as the Louisiana Purchase. The Louisiana Purchase stretched from the Mississippi River to the Rocky Mountains and from Canada to New Orleans, and it doubled the size of the United States. Jefferson thought westward expansion was the key to the nation s health. In order to provide enough land to the yeoman (farmers), the United States had to continue to expand. The general will advocates for a commitment to generality, a common interest that will unite all citizens for the benefit of all. Rousseau states, each one of us puts into the community his person and all his powers under the supreme direction of the general will; and as a body, we incorporate every member as an indivisible part of the whole (Rousseau 61). Emerson is theorizing from his experience of citizenship and is therefore unable to recognize the marginalization of black people across America, regardless if they are free or are enslaved. In his speech against the Fugitive Salve Law, Emerson argues that, there are really two nations, the North and the South. It is not slavery that severs them, it is climate and temperament (Emerson). Emerson s judgment derives from the notion that he was not participating in the practice of slavery due to his geographic location. As a member of the collectively anti slavery north, Emerson argued that he was nit politically implicated to act against the legality of slavery because it did not affect him personally in the north. Emerson s indifference to the politics of the south reveals a kind of privilege that is inherent to white citizens, but not black citizens or enslaved people. Emerson s privilege allows him to engage as a good democratic citizen only when he provokes to act by personal affects. Conversely, Douglass theorizes from the position of a free black man, a citizen who is politically implicated by every law, despite his geographic location. For Douglass, politics implicate every part of a citizen s life and therefore political contradictions, such as slavery, are fundamental to the character of every good democratic citizen. As they spoke on their experiences with an intoxicating mixture of vibrancy and precision, they allowed the reader to come along for the journey without getting lost. Most commendable, is that the writers were able to leave subtle hints that would foreshadow their fortunes meticulously in efforts to keep the readers engaged. There is a vital point to highlight from the workings of both authors how humble and vulnerable their writings maintained as they were written during the peak of their success. Therefore, the common theme is how they foreshadow their success without neglecting to pay homage to where they came from. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In her first chapter appropriately named Where I was Born , Keckley mentions that she was not only born a slave but refers to slavery in a unique way that offers a hint of foreshadowing. She mentions I was but a child myself only four years old but then I had been raised in a hardy school had been taught to rely upon myself, and to prepare myself to render assistance to others (Gates Jr. Smith, 311). What is so profound about that statement is that hardy school was a double entendre used to refer to slavery. Hence, the idea that slavery taught her independence which she carried with her throughout her life. As it pertains to her writing, slavery also equipped her with the poise she presented both in her demeanor and in her work as a renowned seamstress. Another detail that Equiano incorporated within his writing, is the meaning of his name. As he says in the text I was named Olaudah, which, in our language, signifies vicissitude or fortune also, one favoured, and having a loud voice and well spoken (Gates Jr. Smith 121). Equiano was a man who was the youngest born son to village leaders who owned slaves, became a captive of slavery himself, briefly worked in the fields as a slave before following his master overseas and ultimately buying his own freedom. The units that were supposed to come ashore before the first wave were special tanks called DD, or Duplex Drive, tanks. These tanks, especially in the case of Omaha Beach, either sank before or were destroyed as they came ashore. The loss of these tanks meant that the troops landing on Omaha Beach would not have any close support from heavy weapons. ONce the troops began to land, this became a serious problem which the destroyers of the Allied armada solved for the troops on the beach. Destroyers would take turns cruising in as close as they could and then would proceed to provide fire support for the besieged troops by blasting machine gun and 88 mm gun emplacements with their five inch guns. This fire support was crucial to the formation of a beachhead on Omaha Beach, in doing so, preventing the Allied invasion on Omaha Beach from being thrown back and possibly ending the invasion of France in defeat.
