How to Brief a Case
HOW TO BRIEF A CASE Below I have sketched in the beginnings of a brief as a format. This
time honored method of analysis is the basic unit of law school instruction and so most judicial
opinions are written to conform to this approach. Knowing the rules makes watching the game
so much more interesting. Start with the name of the Case which is called the style of the case.
PERLA GRAFF v. JAY L. GRAFF, 569 So. 2d 811, Fla. 1st Dist. Ct. App. (1990). First is the case
name, followed by the citation which tells where you can find the hard copy of this case. This
particular case is found in Volume 569 of the Southern Reporter, Second Series at page 811 in an
opinion written by the First District Court of Appeals for Florida in 1990.... Show more content on

Thus the court must then, pursuant to Sect. 61.075 divide the equitable value of the property
equally, unless there is reason to do otherwise. In this case, the Former Husband attempted to
argue the asset should still be treated differently because he only placed the Former Wife s name
on the title in the event of his demise. Even if the Court were to use that argument, the law still
entitles the Former Wife to equitable distribution of the asset because the increased value of the
asset was based on the joint efforts of both spouses as the Former Husband In making its findings
the court looked at the facts the parties used their joint checking account to make the mortgage
payments and the parties used marital monies to add a pool and replace the roof. Thus equity
required that the increased value of the marital home be treated as a marital asset subject to equal

Why Is Pulp Fiction Popular
Since 1994, the year of its release, Quentin TarantinoВґs movie, Pulp Fiction has been hailed as a
game changing and cinema redefining movie. The film s release would revive or kick start the
careers of several actors, including John Travolta, Uma Thurman, Samuel L. Jackson and Bruce
Willis (Seal). The movie would spawn dozens of knock offs and copycats all of them attempting to
capture the films style of storytelling, clever dialogue or more importantly its box office returns
(Labrecque). The filmhas also served as an inspiration for film buffs, students of film and other
indie film directors who may hope to make it big in the same way that Tarantino did. But what is
it about Pulp Fiction that makes it so popular? How does the films, story, style genre and other key
aspects make it so appealing to filmmakers and fans even twenty four years... Show more content on

The various elements of Pulp Fiction , its story, style of filming as well as other factors combine
to make the film a masterpiece of modern cinema and a breakout hit in a world of corporate and
focus group dominated Hollywood.
If one were to describe the very base plot of Pulp Fiction, to another person, the film would
perhaps seem somewhat unremarkable. The movie follows the exploits of several characters
around mid 1990s Los Angeles all of whom are in some way related to criminal activities (Pulp
Fiction). While this may seem like a fairly typical though potentially promising story it is what
Tarantino does with it that makes Pulp Fiction unique. The plot of the film is told out of
chronological order. Instead of the traditional story structure used in films books and many other
forms of storytelling the movie

Advantages And Disadvantages For Ocd
Prazeres, Souza and Fontenelle (2007) have conducted a systematic review of a decade s worth of
controlled trials and meta analysis involving cognitive or behavioural treatment or cognitive
behavioural treatments for OCD. The findings of various studies have established ERP and CT as
effective methods for the treatment of OCD in children, adolescents and adults. Additionally, the
researchers also found that while for adults, combining Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SRIs) and
ERP or CT was not associated with any additional therapeutic effect, for children, the combination
of SRIs and ERP were found to be superior to either treatment alone. The authors conclude that ERP
and CT together may lead to significant benefits, specially for patients... Show more content on

These comparisons consisted of sample from 8 countries from 5 continents including Asia, Europe,
Oceania, North America and South America. Results have indicated that the effect sizes for only
ERP, only Cognitive Restructuring (CR) and a combination of both were very similar. The
researchers also found that ERP and CR together did not lead to any additional benefits as
compared to either of these treatments alone. While therapist guided exposure, a combination of in
vivo and imaginal was most successful, group therapy was equally effective as individual therapy.
Houghton, Saxon, Bradburn, Ricketts Hardy (2010) aimed to compare the effectiveness of routinely
delivered CBT for OCD with the outcomes achieved in Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs). A
total of 39 participants were recruited and 28 completed the treatment. The results indicated that
37% of the participants showed clinically significant and reliable change. 13 RCTs were included
in the systematic review and the results indicated that the CBT delivered in a clinical setting is
equally beneficial to that delivered in clinical

James Meredith s successful campaign to gain admission to the Univeristy of Mississippi, Ole Miss
, and desegregate education in the state most resistant to integration of educational institutions, has
become a crucial episode in civil rights history. Ole Miss transformed Mississippi politics and
contributed to a cultural shift in the region, as well as invigorated local civil rights activists and

because his views were aligned with that of most whites, and Clyde Kennard, who hoped that
school officials would be moved by his service in the military, proved to Meredith that to hope that
white Mississippians would voluntarily desegregate their schools...was wishful thinking . In 1956
Meredith read about Eisenhower s decision to send federal troops to Little Rock Arkansas to
enforce the Brown decision. This news made him confident in his existing belief that if he wanted
to be admitted to Ole Miss he would need backing from the federal government.6
The backing of Meredith by the Kennedy Administration adds an interesting dimension to the
narrative of Ole Miss. Involvement of federal politics in black issues has historically been
dependent on whether it is in the interest of the federal government. During Reconstruction, for
example, progressive reforms initiated by the Republican Party were motivated by the necessity of
having a politically loyal contingent of voters in Southern, democrat dominated states.7 With the
start of the Cold War Washington D.C. s interest in the lives and desires of African Americans is
renewed as it struggles to overcome its racist image in recently liberated former colonies overseas
in Africa and Asia8. Although it is irrelevant to the discussion of the events that transpired at the
university and to race relations in Mississippi, the foreign policy responsible for the involvement of
the federal government

Advertisement Of Skyy Vodka
The Appeal to Female Dominance: Skyy Vodka The advertisement is specifically directed
towards women in the way that it appeals to what they believe Skyy Vodka can give them. In the
advertisement there is a woman in a black dress leaning back eating olives with a martini glass
between her fingers. On the floor is the Skyy vodka bottle and a man in a suit between her arm
and body who seems to be passed out with his arms spread apart with a tie covering his eyes. The
foreground shows the man womanis in her apartment, while the background is red and in the
upper left hand corner of the page it says #18 She Wins. The first thing the ad demonstrates is
empowered women who are in control of their sexuality and can get what they want in a
relationship. The next thing the Skyy Vodka appeals to is power this is obvious because of the
body language, clothes, red setting and title. The other thing it appeals to is wealth from which is
obvious based on the quality of their surroundings and clothes. The advertisement appeals to women
by showing that by using Skyy Vodka that women can refute the societal standards of being a
subordinate through having a confident dominance.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

happened before this scene. While the ad clearly portrays the female as sexually dominant, it is

Malignant Neoplasm Essay
What is a Malignant Neoplasm?
A malignant neoplasm is a tumor composed of poorly differentiated cells. Neo means new and
plasm refers to cells. The word neoplasm refers to abnormal overgrowth of cells rather than healthy
new cell growth. It is often used interchangeably with words such as tumor and cancer. It is a
cancerous tumor that grows, proliferates, infiltrates and metastasizes to other parts of the body. It
can spread to surrounding tissues, through lymph nodes or through the bloodstream. It often
requires surgical removal. If it is left untreated, it can result in death.

The tumor becomes larger and may possibly invade surrounding tissues or spread to other parts of
the body via the lymphatic system or the bloodstrem. If a vital organ such as the brain or liver or
multiple organs are extensively damaged by the cancer, then death will occur. The treatments
available for treating malignant cancer include surgery and chemotherapy. However, once metastasis
has occurred, the prognosis is poor and treatment is very complicated.
Some of the main types of cancer are described below:
Leukemia This affects the tissues that make blood, such as the bone marrow. Large numbers of
abnormal cells are produced in the bone marrow, which then spread to the bloodstream
Carcinoma This begins in the skin or tissues that line organs.
Lymphoma Originates in the immune system
Sarcoma This develops in blood vessels, muscle, cartilage, bone or other types of connective tissue

Communication And Non Verbal Communication Essay
Communication is influential to our society; each individual in our society communication styles

Significantly, communication impacts how we mutually solve problems without conflict. Withal,

benefit relationships, emotional development, and social development. These concepts have shaped
our perspective on how we communicate with individuals within our diverse nation. Furthermore,
my level of communication has altered throughout this class. I think about how my thoughts will
affect individuals before I verbally express gratitude about a situation. I acknowledged how Models

Analysis Of Speak By Laurie Anderson
The book Speak by Laurie Anderson is a book about how Melinda Sordino overcomes the troubles
in her life, and how she learned to speak up for herself. The author uses a lot of archetypes and
allusions throughout the book to add a fuller description to the events Melinda had gone through,
which will help the readers to better understand what Anderson is trying to tell.
When Melinda started her first day of high school, she suffered from peer pressure with her best
friend who had just left her, and everyone had hated her because she ruined a party during summer
break by calling the police. Melinda knew that no one knew the truth, but she was afraid to speak
out about it. Laurie Anderson used the allusion of Rudolph, the red nosed reindeer ... Show more

Moreover, this drawing of the tree is representative of the mind growth of Melinda. For instance,
the drawing was poorly drawn at the beginning of the book, Melinda s pressure and her life were
weighing her down. As the drawing got better throughout the school year, Melinda s strength
and mindset also began to get better as well. If the tree meant to shelter , then Melinda sure
developed a very nice shelter for herself in the end. Laurie Anderson also used allusions while
describing Melinda s trauma. IT sees me. IT smiles and winks. Good thing my lips are stitched
together or I d throw up. (Anderson 96). The book Maya Angelou is written by a girl who was
once raped. The experience is similar between Melinda and Angelou. The audience may not fully
understand what Melinda was thinking during that time, but the book, Maya Angelou, fully
describes the life of a raped girl which gave us a fuller understanding of the situation that Melinda
was dealing with. She also used the archetype of darkness, when Melinda was raped, it was night
time. Darkness represents Chaos, emblem of bad judgment and destruction, for instance, Melinda
was raped in the darkness. This word should give the readers a clear foreshadowing of what will
happen next. The author also used the archetype of coldness throughout the story. For instance, at

Redheads
Sound weird? Probably, but if you match your hair color with your lipstick, you can look
absolutely amazing! In order to achieve this perfection, you need to learn that different hair colors
need different lipstick shades. Also, by putting skin complexion factor in it and matching it with
hair color, you are going to get a cocktail of perfect lipstick shade for you. Combine all these
elements and be sure to get the right match for your lipstick.
For Redheads
Hot haired girls that either have a natural red tone color or have dyed it should go to the section of
lipsticks that have violet undertones first. These shades will bring out the redness of your hair

For Brown Heads
Ladies with natural brown hair or girls who like to dye their hair in chocolate tones, and also if you
have more of a cool skin complexion (pale skin and blue eyes), don t be afraid to go a little bold!
Bravely go with hot pink or red shades or coral.
On the other hand, if you have warm skin complexion and tan quickly, you should look for lipsticks
in colors like deep apricot or peach. Go for lighter tones, but only if you have light brown hair. If
you have dark eyes and brown hair, you can go for all shades of red. To be honest, a brown color is
great because it matches everything pretty well.
For Black Hair
Women, who were gifted with black hair, can pull off red lipsticks with a brown base if they have
warm complexion. The easiest way to look for these lipsticks is to search for products which have
worlds like deep orange , golden red or coral written on them. Cooler type girls can try cherry reds,
burgundy or plum shades. As well, just like for girls who have brown eyes, brunettes can pull off
mostly all shades since brown is a neutral

Stewardship In Ancient Egypt
Stewardship is the term used to describe the activity of a steward. A steward was one who
controlled the possessions of his master. His role was a very responsible one, and it was vital that
he be a person of honest character. The possibilities for theft or misuse of his master s possessions
were great.
As we look at the principles concerning the steward we will see that true stewardship involves how
we deal with the resources God has entrusted to us. This includes our money, time, possessions,
bodies, families and ministry. From the beginning we see that God had provided for mankind, and
has the desire to see man responsibly disperse his provision. While the forms of administration have
changed over time, the principle remains the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He lived in Potiphar s house and directed both Potiphar s household and his fields. But the story
of his temptation by Potiphar s wife clearly shows that Joseph never forgot that all these things
belonged to his master and that there were limits to what he could do. He could enjoy the fruits
of his labor as long as his master was pleased with his stewardship, and as long as he did not sin
against Potiphar.
Later, Joseph again was made a steward, first of the jailer and then of Pharaoh himself. As
steward of Pharaoh, he was the wealthiest man in Egypt after Pharaoh. However his position
depended on his faithfulness to administrate the affairs of Pharaoh in a manner that pleased
Pharaoh. The Apostle Paul also clearly taught that we are stewards of Christ. Church leaders are
especially responsible to minister the mysteries of God (1Co 4:1 2; Eph 3:2; Tit 1:7). He also
taught that our mMaster is coming back suddenly, at a time when we do not expect hHim (1Th
5:2). [We feel it is good to capitalize titles and pronouns that refer to Christ, but no grade reduction.]
When Jesus returns for His church, He will judge whether we have been faithful in our service for
Him (Ro 14:4 12; 2Co 5:10). Each of these passages is specifically addressed to Christians. The fact
that Jesus will judge believers is even more clear in 1Corinthians 3:10 15. In that text, Paul
describes how fire will test our works, and we will

The Management Involved With Everest Simulation Created By...
1.0 Introduction Mount Everest, as the highest mountain in the world, is famous for the
enormous challenge of reaching its summit. This analytic essay is an analysis of the
management involved with the Everest Simulation created by Harvard Business School. During
this 3hour simulation I was the team doctor and achieved all ten of the possible ten points
available, therefore 100% of goals were achieved. This score is related to the goals I accomplish
as an individual and as a team. I enjoyed the simulation and expanded upon my knowledge as it
taught a profound understanding of team dynamics, the capability to accept change, a stronger
ability to analyse available information and create effective communication. Our team as a whole
obtained 94% of our goals. 2.0 Leadership 2.1 Issue Our team s major goal when completing this
simulation was to ensure we scored as many points as possible not only individually but
collectively. The enticement to get every member to the summit was alluring; however as a team
we decided it was better to stop and contemplate each stage in order to maximise points. As the
simulation was a highly structured task this made the concept of an individual leading and
managing the team ultimately redundant. Each group member contributed towards being team
leader as the group worked cooperatively and cohesively throughout. This issue corresponds to the
theory of leadership and in particular substitutes for leadership. A team working as one making

Folk Music Research Paper
Folk Rock music is my favorite genre to listen to, such as the Lumineers, Mumford and Sons,
and Judah and the Lion. Folk Rock music is a blend between folk music that is blended with
rock and pop; it was created in the 1960 s when it started out with two different artists, Bob
Dylan the Band, and the Byrd s. The folk revival of the 1960s is often the starting point of
fascination with the style for many contemporary folk fans. One big effect of the 60s folk revival
was that it marked the beginning of folksingers, on a large scale, writing their own material. Since
in folk rock, most are singer/songwriters, instruments that are typically used are electric guitar,
electric bass and drums. Some bands, such as Judah and the Lion, will also add... Show more

Country music is interesting to me since it is a genre where a bunch of different genres
originated from such as folk rock, the similarity of the style to folk rock and bluegrass, and also
that most country artists write and sing their own pieces. Country music was developed right
here in the USA down in the south in the 1920 s, being that was the first ever recording. It is also
one of the firsts of popular modern American music. In the 1930 s and 1940 s before the
television was invented, it was common that American families would sit around a radio to
listen to entertainment, and one of the most popular programs was a live country show called
the Grand Ole Opry . It was based out of Nashville, which we all know as the home of country
music. Back then people would listen to what was called Western music which would have a
bunch of clicks and clacks and sound like a horse like beat and would have singing cowboys. In
the early 1950 s another kind of country music developed and it was known as bluegrass, and the
later in the 1960 s country rock began to appear since the country genre was being beat out by rock
bands (and this is also when my favorite, Folk Rock, became about.) During this time is also when
other genres began to come about such as Folk Rock and Country Pop. Instruments that are
typically used in the country genre are pretty much all string instruments such as the acoustic guitar,
the banjo, the mandolin, and even the

The Conventions of the Soap Opera Genre with Reference to at Least Two Programmes
The soap opera genre originated in America in the 1930s as a radio programme. It was targeted at
housewives who tuned in while doing their household chores. Soaps included many domestic issues
to keep the audience interested. The name soaps came from advertising slots between programmes.
As the soaps were aimed at housewives, the adverts mainly consisted of products of a domestic
nature.
Coronation Street was Britain s second soap, following The Groves . It began in 1960 and is set in
Weatherfield, Manchester. It is a successful soap that has been running for over 40 years. Eastenders

Continuity is an important factor whilst examining the conventions of the soap opera genre.
One aspect of continuity is the theme tunes played at the start and the end of the programme. At
the beginning of all soaps there is a main theme tune. In Eastenders the programme begins with
the drum roll. It is loud and easily recognisable. As this is playing, a large birds eye view of
London is shown. It gradually zooms in onto Albert Square as the soap begins. This sets the
scene effectively as the audience instantly know where the soap is set. It also makes it seem more
realistic as it is set in a real location as opposed to the setting being in a studio.
In Coronation Street the theme tune is a violin melody. This also has easily distinguishable shots of
Weatherfield shown as it is played. The theme tune is distinctive and one that the audience will
recognise when they switch on to watch the soap. Theme tunes help to create habits for viewers
who hear them and sit down to watch the soap. They set the scene allowing the viewer to become
more quickly absorbed into the action.
Another aspect of continuity is the reliance upon the cliff hanger scene at the end of an episode. A
cliffhanger is when the audience are left in suspense after an event that is not concluded within the
episode, ensuring they will watch next time. Often soaps finish with a

Rebellion Against Slavery in Fires of Jubilee by Stephen...
Fires of Jubilee is a book that is talking about slavery and rebellion against it. The book is
enjoyable but still is very saddening because of the occurrences in the plots. Slavery is not
something to be happy about. Humans treating other humans with no mercy, and making them
works with no pay for extended hours. The killings made by the slaves are saddening, too.
Mutilating the whites and leaving their bodies lying is inhumane. It is such a shocking story. This
book was meant to teach the reader on the inhumanity of slavery. It also gives us the image of what
happened during the past years when slavery was practised. The book is significant in the sense

Nat thought that he should use his intelligence and the respect he was given when he was a kid
to start a rebellion against slavery. He said the God had shown him visions and he was the
chosen one to stop slavery (Oates, 2009). Nat grew up as a polite man who never do anything
wronged to anyone and even became the slave preacher. This made the whites trust him. Joseph
Travis saw him as the most behaved black and was even given credit to conduct unsupervised
meetings in the church (Oates, 2009); which gave Nat room to explain his desire to revolt as
asked for the people who could help him. The message about a rebellion spread to the slaves in
Southampton and small revolts followed. On August 1831 Nat led a group of armed slaves in
the middle of the night and went round the homes of the whites killing them and living the
bodies behind. They did this for two days but Nat killed nobody because of his Christian belief,
but he thought that he was sent by God to free the slaves from bondage (Oates, 2009). The slaves

The Effects Of Advertising On Society Essay
The Effects of Advertising on Society
Fr. Kavanaugh was on the mark when describing the effects of advertising on society. Our moral
values are being degraded by the bombardment of impropriety by the media. Adler would be
quick in pointing out the reason why these messages have such a negative effect on people. There
are two main tactics advertisers use to sell their product: either imply that their product will bring
about the achievement of a particular (usually real) good, or make their product the object of
desire, therefore making it an apparent good to people. The problem with associating products with
the achievement of a good lies more in the realm of truth than in good, because it lies in whether ...

Though these products are by no means needs, the associations make people believe that the
advertised product embodies the good they need, and to achieve that good they must buy the
product. Companies don t advertise perfumes, for example; they advertise relationships. They don
t advertise clothing; they advertise independence. Slowly, as people hear these messages more
and more, they start associating more importance to the product than to the good involved, like a
sort of idol worship and here is where the real problems set in. Now that advertisers have people
sold on the product, they can influence people s desires.
This is what Fr. Kavanaugh saw when he said that advertising is damaging society s moral values.
Calvin Klein, for example, has already become one of those companies whose product has become
more important than the good they represent in other words, Calvin Klein products are now in and
of themselves the good some people try to achieve. Thus, when their ads show immoral situations or
actions (like the infamous child pornography ads that spurred many debates and a lawsuit against
the company), people associate these immoral actions with the quot;good quot; Calvin Klein
products, and people will slowly grow desensitized to them. Advertising, therefore, plays a notable
role in the moral growth or stunting

Importance Of A Flower In My Life
Cake, flowers, presents, flowers, family, flowers. Never before did I think a flower could change
my life. The one flower, just one of millions, changed everything. It wasn t just a flower. No, it
was far more. Everything changed. The people, the places, the activities. Everything in my life
changed. My life was taken on a rollercoaster. It was flipped. It was turned upside turn. It climbed
high, just to fall back down. When it would reach the top of the climb, I would feel as if I was
free falling and never going to stop. My stomach would leap from my chest, just as it did the
many times I was frightened. I would corkscrew through uncertain times. Only it wasn t just on a
ride. I couldn t tell myself it was just for fun or that it was going to be over soon, because I didn t
know that. My stomach would lurch and I would sometimes just stay still, completely petrified.
Not knowing what to do, who to talk to, or what to say. I didn t know the next step I should take.
Any one step in the wrong direction could make me fall right off the track. Many times, I would
try to take small steps, to avoid falling off the track. Although, sometimes a roller coaster would
come from behind and hit me. I didn t figure out who to trust early enough and I would be on my
own against the one who wanted my to fall. Then my mindwould go back to the flower. I can picture
that flower in my head, like it was only yesterday. The image is crisp in my mind. Some other

because it is apart of his duty as King. This is a display of his compassion towards King Charles II.

Sample Jazz Concert Report
Aundria McCadney The night of February 18, 2016 I attended The MTSU Faculty Jazztet
concert in Wright Music Hall. This jazz band consists of David Willford, Don Aliquo, Micheal
Parkinson, Jamey Simmions, Joe Davidian, Patrick Arwater, and Derrek Phillps performed eight
jazz selections. The crowd that night was about 70 80 people, and part were older and the other
half was students. When I think about a jazzperformance a drum and piano player did not come to
mind. I expected for the show to be like all the stuff you see on TV about jazz bands with one
person singing and the instruments in the background playing. All the band members were all

The members didn t go by the particular order that was on the program when performing the

in the chorus of them. The saxophone, flugelhorn and trumpet phrases were all legato during
their solos throughout the pieces. In the dynamics during each of the songs were mezzo forte or
higher. When each person did their solo they crescendo leading to the end of them. I really
enjoyed that the lead of the band explained the background information of every piece that was
played I tried to take that into consideration while listening. If he didn t put his explanation in
before each song I wouldn t be able to understand the main concept. The song that stood out to
me the most was Dance Cadaverous, which is a mood piece. Dance Cadaverous song connected
with me more than the others simply because I could really interpreted the piece. The rest of the
songs were challenging to grab the concept of the title to the actual performance. This piece to me
portrays a mix of swing dance to it. Dance Cadaverous is the definition of the jazz I have heard

The Singularity Is Near Book Response
The Singularity is Near: Book Response The Singularity is Near was written by Ray Kurzweil in
2005. Kurzweil looks into the near future and confidently predicts where we, as a species, will find
ourselves. The Singularity is a future period at which artificial intelligence will match and exceed
the intelligence of humans, including the problem solving skills, pattern recognition, even
emotional and moral intelligence of the human brain. We will reach this point relatively soon.
Kurzweil estimates that the Singularity will arrive in 2045. An important reason why we are
reaching this point is exponential growth. As time goes on, we double the growth of computing
consistently. As you can see in the chart on the right, the growth of computing has increased
drastically. This is because it increases at an exponential rate instead of linear. Linear growth is
steady; exponential growth becomes explosive. An exponential rate is when numbers are

Naco Culture Of Fear Essay
When reporting on terrorism, the media function as a double edged sword. They assure terrorists
that their grievances will receive public attention; yet they also can mobilize public opinion
against the arbitrary use of violence by stripping terrorism of its romantic veneer and exposing its
violent underpinnings to public scrutiny.20 The proposed general industry guidelines should
minimize the harms from publicizing terrorist events while maximizing the speech interests vital
to a democratic society (Moffitt, 1998). In previous decades, the journalistic mission was to
report the news as it actually happened, with fairness, balance, and integrity; Profit gaining
motives associated with journalism have forced much of today s television news to look to the
spectacular, the stirring, and the controversial as news stories. It s no longer a race to break the
story first or get the facts right. Instead, it s to acquire good ratings in order to get advertisers, so
that profits soar. The goals of terrorists are not solely confined to winning the attention of the
masses. In addition to that, through the media, they aim to publicize their political causes, inform
both friends and foes about the motives for terrorist deeds, and explain their rationale for resorting
to violence... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What exactly is the culture of fear and how does it affect the way that the public reacts to acts of
terrorism? One fundamental characteristic within a culture of fear is narrow mindedness. The
media has contributed to this atmosphere of intolerance by over reporting the September 11th
attacks.
People cannot think clearly when they are afraid. As numerous studies have shown, fear is the
enemy of reason. It distorts emotions and perceptions, and often leads to poor decisions. For people
who have suffered trauma, fear messages can sometimes trigger uncontrollable flight or fight
responses with dangerous ramifications (Hazen,

Negative Effects Of Imperialism On Colonized People
Despite having a predominantly negative effect on colonized populations, Imperialism improved
the lives of colonized people because it introduced innovations and inventions that helped to unify
conquered areas through easier means of communication and improved native economies by
increasing productivity. During the Age of Imperialism, most colonial powers had developed
technologies that the countries they colonized did not yet have access to. Industrial inventions like
crop rotation, telephone lines, the steamboat, the cotton gin and railroads allowed Imperialist
powers to produce and transport materials more efficiently than colonized countries could. When

Others have defined internet addiction in other words. Oktan (2011) has used certain criteria to
describe internet addiction. He says that it is failure to control, decrease or stop internet use, and
staying logged on longer than expected (Oktan, 2011). Both Yen, Yen, Wu, Huang Ko (2011) and
Chak Leung (2004) give characteristics for internet addiction. Yen, et al, (2011) list the
characteristics as: impaired decision making, impairment of control, tolerance, preoccupation,
withdrawal, uses more than one intends, excessive time and effort devoted to the internet. Chak
Leung (2004) list their characteristics of internet addiction as the following: concealment, risk to
education, risk of loss of job, risk of loss of relationship, and lying to friends, family, the therapist,
and others. Weinstein Lejoyeux (2010) believes there are 4 components to internet addiction and in
each component there are different parts to the component. The four components are excessive use,
tolerance, adverse consequences, and withdrawal. The parts to excessive use entail loss of time
and neglect of duties. Tolerance is when more and more of time and effort are needed for

Describe The Modes Of Conflict Resolution
4. a. Describe the mode of conflict handling
Conflict is an active disagreement or struggle between people with opposing opinions, concerns or
principles. It is an inevitable and unavoidable part of our everyday professional and personal lives.
There are some reasons why conflict happened, like ambivalent responsibilities, personality clashes,
competition for scarce resources, clashes due to behavioural styles and unrealized expectations.
Kenneth Kaye once said, Conflict is neither good nor bad. Properly managed, it is absolutely vital.
These conflict triggers needed to be comprehend in order to be able to handle conflict

degree to which one party attempts to satisfy his own concerns) and cooperativeness (the degree

competing. You might neglect your own concerns to satisfy other s concerns. Although there is an
element of self sacrifice in this mode, but it also take the form of selfless generosity or charity or

5 Significant Other Traits
In about 15 years I will more than likely have a significant other. While thinking about this I
made a list of 5 traits that the significant other should have. These traits are that they have to like
leaving the house, they do not exactly have to be a tree hugger, but they need to like going
outside because when I am in the house for too long I feel like I am being suffocated. They
CANNOT be a messy person. I know that I am not the tidiest little tide pod in the box, but they
have to be clean. My significant other should also be patient. They need to understand that I am not
always going to jump at the opportunity to do a chore or something like that. I will eventually do
it, just not right away. They should also be understanding because if they aren t, then some things
that I do they might not even try to comprehend and that could be bad. They should also know right

Descriptive Essay About A Plane
A plane descends from a high elevation to a leveled point and then ultimately softly landing on the
airport grounds.
Poof, bark, whir were all sounds that the plane made from the moment the pilot started the engine.
I looked around looking at how different people would react to these noises but they all seemed
quite used to everything. I took a glimpse of a few people that were on the plane and I saw that this
one bald white man who wore plaid had his laptop in front of him typing something that seemed
to be long. Maybe he was a reporter or even one of those weird writers who write stuff as a
profession. Two seats behind the man there was a woman probably in her early 30 s, pale skin,
coarse hair, squinting hard to read the newspaper. Hearing someone whispering something I turned
around in the back of my seat to see that there was an old lady praying something my mom
described as speaking in tongues. All I thought about is how this plane was able to fly in the air
without any strings attached to it like in the cartoons.

Democratic Peace
Paper: Intro. Many different explanations have been brought forth to explain why democracies do
not fight one another . Among academics, the most prominent theories can be divided among three
schools of thought: liberal institutionalist, realist, and liberal constructivist. Beyond academia, often
simplified interpretations of these theories have guided many Great Powers foreign policy
decisions. This paper will first seek to outline what most academics agree to be the empirical
correlations between democracies and war. This paper will then outline and examine the competing
theories behind the Democratic Peace. This paper will argue that although some of the realist
critiques are plausible and should not be entirely dismissed, the liberal constructivist theories offer
the most accurate explanation of why the Democratic Peace exists. This paper will finish by
examining the foreign policy implications of this thesis, with reference to recent and potentially
future military engagements undertaken by today s democratic Great Powers. Despite originally

The Importance Of Self Improvement And The Value Of Education
The importance of self improvement and the value of education
A person is not defined by their past and the mistakes that they have made. They are defined by
what obstacles they have gone through and overcome in order to grow into the person that they
are today. Without struggle, there is no progress. No one can self improve unless they are willing
and able to overcome the challenges of life. Two important morals in my life are : always making
the room to self improve, and valuing my education. Through my American story, I plan to share
how I learned to appreciate the meaning of education, and the importance of improving and
bettering myself. Guest presentations and readings of other American s narratives this
semester, such as the presentation by David Delizza, Gary Shtyengart s novel Super Sad True
Love Story, The Narrative of Frederick Douglass , and The chicken in the hen house by David
Sedaris, all have made a further emphasis on aspects relevant to my life and my own story as an
American. David Delizza, one of our guest speakers, provided excellent advice on the topics of
self improvement and education. In David s opinion, education and self improvement are
extremely important, and are two factors that have helped him to accomplish many goals in life.
When David was placed on academic probation in college due to his low GPA, his school asked
him to remove himself from the program. He said no and set out to prove them wrong. The
setbacks that David has faced in

Cognitive Therapy And Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Essay
Since the beginning of psychotherapy as a discipline and theoretical body of knowledge, there has
been many different psychotherapies developed and practiced. Some psychotherapies share
similarities and, at times, use the same mechanisms of change (e.g., cognitive therapy and cognitive
behavioral therapy) while other psychotherapies are fundamentally distinct from each other (e.g.,
psychoanalysis and acceptance and commitment therapy). The integration of the mechanisms and
theoretical basses of two or more psychotherapies has been sought out as a means to create methods
of psychotherapythat are increasingly effective and useful for practitioners. Integrating aspects of
different psychotherapies has been attempted in four ways; by using assimilative integration,
technical eclecticism, theoretical integration, and common factors (CF).
Assimilative integration is a popular method of practice that relies on the practitioner having one
dominant theoretical grounding and using methods from other psychotherapies when they are seen
to be useful in therapy. In other words, the therapist dominantly practices one theoretical orientation,
which he or she uses for the fundamental cause of pathology and most therapeutic techniques, while
using techniques from other theoretical orientations when they would benefit particular patients or
be suitable in certain situations. An example of the assimilative integration approach is when a
cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) practitioner decides

Racial Discrimination And Capital Punishment
Racial discrimination and capital punishment has been a heated topic discussed ever since the 1972
case Furman v. Georgia. In the article, Does Racial Discrimination Make Capital Punishment
Wrong? by Stephen Nathanson, his position in this argument is affirmative as he argues that racial
discrimination makes capital punishmentwrong since death penalty is administered in an arbitrary
manner. Arbitrariness is the quality of being determined by chance or impulse, and not by reason or
principle. He claims capital punishment has been used disproportionately and arbitrarily since black
people who murderare more likely to be executed than white people. His position rests on an
argument from analogy. He gives two analogies, in which he compares two cases which he
explains one, that he tells his class that anyone who plagiarizes will fail the course. Three
students of his plagiarize papers, but only one receives a failing grade. The other two, in
describing their motivation, win his sympathy. The second analogy, in his child s birthday party,
he offers a price to the child who can solve a particular puzzle. Three children, including his own
solve the puzzle. He cannot reward them all, so he gives the price to his own child. He states in
these cases that the people involved are treated unjust because it would have been better to fail no
one that to fail a single student. Or to give the prize to no one than to his child alone. He
undermines his critics initial arguments

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Employee Relations
Employment relation is one of the vital and critical parts of HRM. For making an effective and
healthy relationship between employers and employees, it is important to understand the perception
of employment relations along with its importance in an organisation (Wang Chen, 2005). Thus, if
an organisation fails to understand its significance of employment relations and unable to manager
employer and employee relationship efficiently, this might lead to impact on the organisation power

Why Is Gladiator Considered A Good Person
Society always judges people on their actions, thinking about how moral or immoral. In the movie
Gladiator by Ridley Scott, they explore the wrongs of man. The protagonist, Maximus Decimus
Meridius is portrayed as a good person because of his honorability. On the other hand, Commodus

good and bad characters, there s a sign on how we know which one is bad and which one isn t.
People usually get attracted to the protagonist rather than the antagonist. In Gladiator, Meridius

Diction In Blackberry-Picking By Seamus Heaney
In Seamus Heaney s poem, Blackberry Picking , the author utilizes diction, alliteration, and rhyme
in order to express his discontent in how greedy people can become when they desire something.
Heaney wishes to present this idea to his reader through very aggressive diction. The poet
juxtaposed the summer s blood (7) in his poem with the juice, or blood of blackberries, admiring
the fruitfor its addicting taste which reawakens his temptation every summer. Had Heaney chosen
weaker diction in this metaphor, the individual reading this poem would not feel such powerful
emotions towards Heaney s message about nature s fragility when injured by human greed. Also,
Heaney associates blood with the juice of the berries since humans need blood to live, but there are

Previously, metals weren t in sufficient quantities and in consistent enough quality. This meant
that buildings were limited to materials found in nature, such as stone, clay, timber, limestone,
and concrete. However, not only did the Industrial Revolution change the world, but it also
changed architecture. During this century, the worldwide production of iron was 825,000 tons,
and by 1900, it rose up to nearly 50 times more. The most commonly used form of iron was steel,
which was not only stronger and versatile, but was also tensile and had compressive strength
greater than any other material previously used before. Although steel allowed architects to
design much taller buildings with a lot more interior space, there was one major flaw that
prevented architects from doing so. To cement a new friendship, especially between foreigners
or persons of a different social world, a spark with which both were secretly charged must fly
from person to person, and cut across the accidents of place and time (Elisha Graves Otis).

How I Operate Within A Working Environment
Introduction Self reflection is the key in gaining an outlook of a student s strengths and
weaknesses. By understanding these characteristics, one can take action to improve upon them.
Within this assignment I will discuss the tasks and challenges that the company Midland Heart has
presented. This will involve reflecting upon such challenges to assess how I operate within a
working environment. My primary role was to shadow the manager of the law team to study the
ways in which she organises and communicate with her staff. The bulk of my role involved going
through housing cases to understand how the law team is used as a function within the business.
Furthermore I also worked with various other departments to understand their roles in... Show more

In reality however, there were a number of times where I asked for assistance particularly
regarding some of the legal documents. In retrospect, I should have asked for more detail about
certain jobs to clarify some of the terms. Further to this I had to ensure that my progress was
being monitored and developed and this was maintained by semi regular meetings and informal
conversations. Reflecting on my first work placement, it was rare to have such meetings which
often left it difficult to understand how my skills were being developed. Macduff (2012, p. 24)
supports Cooks previous point going on to suggest that settling within the second year is seen as
more advantageous as there is a natural improvement in confidence. Despite this I still struggled
to confidently operate as Midland Heart was such a drastic difference to Savers. This oversight
could have been avoided if I had discussed the issue with either my tutor or manager to gain an
insight into the correct office etiquette. Networking One of the purposes of pursuing a work
placement is to meet working people to understand how they work. Brooks (2012) establishes that
networking within your organisation could also help an employee with future job opportunities. It
was therefore important to utilise this opportunity to gain a number of contacts in a field that I was
interested in. As my previous placement was in an organisation that I already worked for, it was
difficult to find new contacts. This

Pain, Acute Pain And Chronic Pain
Pain is an experience that involves both the mind and the body. It is an uncomfortable feeling that
signals your brain that there may be something wrong with your body. Pain is an irritating and
unpleasant sensory and emotional experience which may be caused by a damage in the tissues,
one s beliefs or thoughts, or environmental stressors such as one s job or traffic. Painis a significant
stress both physically and emotionally. It may cause discomfort, distress or agony. It may be steady
or throbbing. It maybe stabbing, aching or pinching.
In the past, many people thought that pain was a result of a damaged tissues. However now the
researchers have come to find out that pain is an intricate process that might or might not include
tissue damage and most likely involves social, psychological and emotional factors, which can
either cause, increase, or decrease painful sensations.
There are two types of pain, acute pain and chronic pain.
Acute pain is a short lasting pain, which can be easily described and observed. Acute pain begins
suddenly and is a sharp pain. It s a warning of a disease or a threat to the body. Acute pain might
be just mild and may last for a moment, or it may be severe and last for weeks or months. Acute
pain does not last longer than 6 months. If the pain lasts longer than 6 months than it may proceed
on to chronic pain.
Chronic pain tends to affect a person s whole life including a change in their personality, the
activities they used to

Does The Huntsman Winter s War Exist
I can t figure out why The Huntsman: Winter s War exists. Honestly. The movie s a rare cinematic
do over an opportunity to re enter a flawed story (the one told in 2012 s Snow White and the
Huntsman) with the intention of salvaging the tiny bits that worked the first time, while also
course correcting and removing the parts the audience deemed unnecessary. Only, that doesn t
happen. This peculiar, hybrid prequel/sequel commits the same mistakes as its predecessor, and
ends up being as shapeless, nondescript and unimaginative as Snow Whitewas... only this time, they
don t have Kristen Stewart to blame.
So, what went wrong? As far as I can tell, the producers miscalculated just how interesting Chris
Hemsworth s rugged fairy tale warrior, Eric, was, or could be. His character in Snow White was
neither a love interest nor a savior. He lived in the narrative shadow of his leading lady, while both
Stewart and Hemsworth repeatedly were eclipsed by the scenery chewing of Charlize Theron s evil
queen, Ravenna. I can t remember a single non Theron scene from Snow White and the Huntsman.
Her presence was just that dominant. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The way this new, reconfigured story goes, the young Ravenna had a powerful sister, Freya
(Emily Blunt), whose God given abilities involved ice and cold. She s Elsa, without the musical
interludes. After establishing a kingdom on the outskirts of the land, Queen Freya builds an army
of Huntsman and Huntswomen filling the void in her heart with power, because love is not an
option. (There s a dark subplot tied to Freya involving the loss of an infant that had me wondering
if Huntsman was made with children in mind. I guess it

Vimy Ridge History
The 100th anniversary of the battle of Vimy Ridge is an important part of Canada 150
celebrations and a defining event in the history of our nation. Although Confederation occurred 50
years earlier, it has been said that in 1917, Canada was transformed from colony to nation on the
slopes of Vimy Ridge. Less well recognized is the important service of Canadas legal professionals
in that part of our history. This year will be different.
In April, Canadians will commemorate the uncommon service and sacrifice of the soldiers,
sailors, and airmen who left their families and occupations to serve in WWI generally and at
Vimy in particular. For the first time, in recognition of the remarkable service and leadership of
Canada s legal professionals, the Chief Justice of Canada and the Judge Advocate General of
Canada are invited to participate formally in the Vimy commemoration at the national cenotaph in
Ottawa. This recognition has been well earned.

Supreme Court of Canada. Service and leadership are inter generational principles. Mr. Justice

Notes On Machine Learning And The Development Of Computer...
Chapter 2: INTRODUCTION TO MACHINE LEARNING
2.1 Definition
Learning like intelligence, covers a wide range of processes that it is challenging to define
accurately.
Regarding machines, we might define, very broadly, that a machine learns whenever it changes its
structure, program, or data (based on its inputs or in response to external information) in such a
manner that its expected future performance improves [5]. Machine learning is a type of artificial
intelligence (AI) that equips computers with the ability to learn without being explicitly
programmed. Machine learning focuses on the development of computer programs that can teach
themselves to grow and change when exposed to new data.
The process of machine learning is analogous to data mining. Both systems explore through data to
look for patterns. However, machine learning uses that data to detect patterns in data and adjust
program actions accordingly. Currently, machine learning is more advanced from pattern
recognition to theory that computers can learn without being programmed to perform specific tasks.
The iterative aspect of machine learning is important because as models are exposed to new data,
they are able to independently adapt. They learn from previous computations to produce reliable,
repeatable decisions and results. [6]
Robot learning is a research field at the intersection of machine learning and robotics. It studies
techniques allowing a robot to acquire unique skills or adapt to its environment

An International Criminal Court
The establishment of an international criminal court was a slow, arduous process. Following the
horrific human rights violations committed by the Nazis in World War II, the global community
began to take the proper steps to combat the notion that being at war sanctions gross abuses of
human rights. It was not a lust for violence that elongated the process of establishing the ICC
(international criminal court), but rather the long time battle between accepting that the world is
increasingly affected by globalization and holding fast to the age old tradition of prizing state
sovereignty above all. The scale of the genocidecarried out against all peoples not of Aryan descent
in the 1940s was the catalyst needed to start talks about prizing guaranteed rights over the incessant
need to abide by antiquated customary law. Whilst many argue that the ICC and ad hoc tribunals
such as the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) and the International Criminal
Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) fail to provide a comprehensive international legal
framework, they serve other important purposes. Firstly, the ICC and its parent tribunals played a
major part in ending the culture of impunity. Oftentimes, in states where there are violations of
international humanitarian law, the government is wrought with corruption. Politicians and
government officials abuse the rights of their citizens and others under the guise of sovereign
immunity. Tribunals, and later the ICC,

According Vermeulen, most new strategies are implemented. One of the chief reason for lack of
implementation of these strategies is that new strategies are usually not strategies at all. A real
strategy involves a clear set of choices which define what the organization is going to execute and
those which isn t going to execute. Therefore, most strategies are never put into actions despite the
ample efforts of hard working individuals since they doesn t represent a set of clear choices
(Vermeulen, 2017). To improve your strategy you must ensure that there is a clear communication
of the strategy to the implementers who are the employees as well as all the people in the
enterprise. Communicating your logic will be very important in answering some of the why
questions that your employees have. Answering such questions will help in persuading the
employees that the new strategy is valuable. For effectiveness of the strategy, it should be issued
from the top down and supported from the bottom up. This means that lower level workers must be
empowered so that they can think of their own initiatives to realize the

The Nervous System And How It Interacts With Our Body
The Nervous System and How It Interacts With Our Body
Andrew Reynolds
Introduction: There was a common characteristic in all of the experiments performed, that being it
involved the nervous system and how it worked within the body to elicit different responses based
on different stimuli. Signals in the nervous system were fired, which triggered a response
somewhere in the body. This requires two systems to accomplish this, the afferent and efferent
systems. The afferent system is the system responsible for sending signals from the receptors to the
central nervous system. The efferent system is responsible for sending the response away from the
central nervous system to the area in which it wishes to produce an action. Between these two
systems is an integrating center, or control center. The afferent brings information from the
receptor into the integrating center, the information is processed, and then a response is sent away
from the integrating center by the efferent system and the response occurs. Dynamic task
dependent regulation of reflexes controlled by the central nervous system plays an integral part in
neurocontrol of locomotion, shows how the central nervous system and the reflex arcs that it
causes are vital for the body to be able to function (Hofstoetter, U. S., Minassian, K., Hofer, C., et
al.) The cerebral cortex also plays a part in the sending and receiving of signals throughout the
body. It is located on the

Theft Definition Essay
Criminal Law, 26/04/11, Dr.Filletti
Theft
No definition of the offence of theft; Carrara gives us a definition which has been taken up by our
courts, The malicious taking of an object belonging to others without the owner s consent with the
intent to make gain. This is the definition which our court uses, our law simply creates one
distinction for these offences. The law creates two types of theft: Simple Theft and Aggravated
Theft.
Simple Theft:
First element is contrectazio this is the taking away, this element has 3 schools of thought: 1.
Carrara: Says amozio (movement), as soon as you have movement of the object, or as soon as the
offender lays his hands on the object and simply moves it the offence of theft is complete. ... Show

Violence: Manzini writes that violenece doesn t have to be addressed to the victim but against any
other person present during the crime. This is because the fundamental element of aggravation and
applies to all aggravations is that the aggravation must have facilitated the commission of the
crime. This was established in Pulizija vs Emmanuel Testa, Testa was a bus conductor who was
charged with violent indecent assault for having groped an 18 year old s breast on a bus. Was
charged with violent indecent assault aggravated by a public office, the fact alone that he was a
bus conductor, as a public officer. But this position as a public did not facilitate the aggravation
and the court agreed that it did not facilitate the crime. So he couldn t get an aggravation because
he was a public officer.
Our law speaks of bodily harm or threats of bodily harm, there must be real or perceived bodily
harm. What is essential is that this threat must necessarily be an influence on the victim s mind.
Violence can be used against a thing in so far as it instils fear of further harm to one s self. The
violence and the threat has to be such that it instils fear into the victim.
Another form is violenza numerica , more than 2 thieves present themselves. By the term present
themselves they don t need to know they are all there, the victim has to know there are more than
two they need not be in front of the victim. The rule is that you have to be

Blink essay #2
People make decisions everyday, some of those decisions can be made unconsciously without little
to no thought, while others require more in depth conscious thinking. Blink talks about why the
spontaneous decisions can often be better than the carefully thought out ones. Throughout the
book Gladwell gives the readers examples that support his main message of: The spontaneous
decisions we make are often just as good as, or better than carefully planned conscious ones,
although there can be risks to those. After reading Blink, I do not feel that I personally agree

Most of these decisions have to be made consciously. You can t just decide spontaneously what
to wear, you have to make sure the outfit matches. Although some can be made unconsciously
such as talking to people. When someone says hi to you, you don t think about it you just
respond saying hi. Throughout the day we all make decisions using our unconscious and
conscious. In some situations there are times when you can t make a spontaneous decision, or it
may lead you in the wrong direction such as it lead the policemen in the Bronx the wrong way.
Recently I was faced with a tough decision that had to be made consciously otherwise I most
likely would have made the wrong choice. I was trying to decide whether I should continue
playing field hockey or if I should switch to Cross Country. I have been playing field hockey since
I was in fourth grade so I didn t want to just quit with no thought put into it. On the other hand if I
was to quit and run cross country, I would become a stronger runner which would help me with
track. I thought of the pros and cons of each and was conflicted. I loved field hockey but I also
love track and wanted to become stronger. I eventually chose Cross Country. This was not an
easy choice and if I had made it spontaneously, I would have chose not to quit field hockey which
would have been the wrong choice. My life experiences have also lead me to disagree with
Gladwell s main message. In

Rural Communities And The Homeless Population
Rural communities struggle to provide healthcare and shelter for the homeless population. The lack
of public visibility of families in shelters receiving services that can assist with housing, adequate
healthcare, and humane support to overcome the bias of homelessness in Bemidji Minnesota
remains dismal. The notion of being out of sight in a temporary shelter leads to marginalization of
these families as a unit of care. Rural communities must find mechanisms within healthcare to bring
further assistance to vulnerable families to support the family bond.

Families with children, constitute a rapidly growing population within the homeless, rural
community. Trends regarding the number of children accompanying their parents or guardians
during a period of homelessness, is upwards of 37% of all people accessing services related to
homelessness (Moore, McArthur, Noble Carr, 2011). The additional burden in rural populations
include the lack of healthcare providers willing to care for this population and funds available to
provide services. Traditionally, shelters were temporary overnight accommodations for individuals,
now shelters see higher rates of young children accompanied by a single or both parents for
extended stays. This paper will look at rural family homelessness healthcare and offer a perspective

Smoke bomb is a projectile in The Culling. It breaks on effect, making a large cloud of smoke
and applying a temporary blindness to opponents. It is particularly powerful for fleeing and

The first bomb were invented in China in the 13th century. The Chinese initially started using

  • 2. How to Brief a Case HOW TO BRIEF A CASE Below I have sketched in the beginnings of a brief as a format. This time honored method of analysis is the basic unit of law school instruction and so most judicial opinions are written to conform to this approach. Knowing the rules makes watching the game so much more interesting. Start with the name of the Case which is called the style of the case. PERLA GRAFF v. JAY L. GRAFF, 569 So. 2d 811, Fla. 1st Dist. Ct. App. (1990). First is the case name, followed by the citation which tells where you can find the hard copy of this case. This particular case is found in Volume 569 of the Southern Reporter, Second Series at page 811 in an opinion written by the First District Court of Appeals for Florida in 1990.... In this case, the Former Husband attempted to argue the asset should still be treated differently because he only placed the Former Wife s name on the title in the event of his demise. Even if the Court were to use that argument, the law still entitles the Former Wife to equitable distribution of the asset because the increased value of the asset was based on the joint efforts of both spouses as the Former Husband In making its findings the court looked at the facts the parties used their joint checking account to make the mortgage payments and the parties used marital monies to add a pool and replace the roof. Thus equity required that the increased value of the marital home be treated as a marital asset subject to equal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Why Is Pulp Fiction Popular Since 1994, the year of its release, Quentin TarantinoВґs movie, Pulp Fiction has been hailed as a game changing and cinema redefining movie. The film s release would revive or kick start the careers of several actors, including John Travolta, Uma Thurman, Samuel L. Jackson and Bruce Willis (Seal). The movie would spawn dozens of knock offs and copycats all of them attempting to capture the films style of storytelling, clever dialogue or more importantly its box office returns (Labrecque). The filmhas also served as an inspiration for film buffs, students of film and other indie film directors who may hope to make it big in the same way that Tarantino did. But what is it about Pulp Fiction that makes it so popular? How does the films, story, style genre and other key aspects make it so appealing to filmmakers and fans even twenty four years... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The various elements of Pulp Fiction , its story, style of filming as well as other factors combine to make the film a masterpiece of modern cinema and a breakout hit in a world of corporate and focus group dominated Hollywood. If one were to describe the very base plot of Pulp Fiction, to another person, the film would perhaps seem somewhat unremarkable. The movie follows the exploits of several characters around mid 1990s Los Angeles all of whom are in some way related to criminal activities (Pulp Fiction). While this may seem like a fairly typical though potentially promising story it is what Tarantino does with it that makes Pulp Fiction unique. The plot of the film is told out of chronological order. Instead of the traditional story structure used in films books and many other forms of storytelling the movie ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Advantages And Disadvantages For Ocd Prazeres, Souza and Fontenelle (2007) have conducted a systematic review of a decade s worth of controlled trials and meta analysis involving cognitive or behavioural treatment or cognitive behavioural treatments for OCD. The findings of various studies have established ERP and CT as effective methods for the treatment of OCD in children, adolescents and adults. Additionally, the researchers also found that while for adults, combining Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SRIs) and ERP or CT was not associated with any additional therapeutic effect, for children, the combination of SRIs and ERP were found to be superior to either treatment alone. The authors conclude that ERP and CT together may lead to significant benefits, specially for patients... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These comparisons consisted of sample from 8 countries from 5 continents including Asia, Europe, Oceania, North America and South America. Results have indicated that the effect sizes for only ERP, only Cognitive Restructuring (CR) and a combination of both were very similar. The researchers also found that ERP and CR together did not lead to any additional benefits as compared to either of these treatments alone. While therapist guided exposure, a combination of in vivo and imaginal was most successful, group therapy was equally effective as individual therapy. Houghton, Saxon, Bradburn, Ricketts Hardy (2010) aimed to compare the effectiveness of routinely delivered CBT for OCD with the outcomes achieved in Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs). A total of 39 participants were recruited and 28 completed the treatment. The results indicated that 37% of the participants showed clinically significant and reliable change. 13 RCTs were included in the systematic review and the results indicated that the CBT delivered in a clinical setting is equally beneficial to that delivered in clinical ... Essay about The Battle of Ole Miss SACRAMENTO CITY COLLEGE THE BATTLE OF OLE MISS AS IT RELATES TO THE AFRICAN AMERICAN EXPERIENCE AND AMERICAN HISTORY A TERM PAPER SUBMITTED TO PROFESSOR K.R.V. HENINGBURG DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY BY MONA SALIMI SACRAMENTO, CA 19 APRIL 2010 James Meredith s successful campaign to gain admission to the Univeristy of Mississippi, Ole Miss , and desegregate education in the state most resistant to integration of educational institutions, has become a crucial episode in civil rights history. Ole Miss transformed Mississippi politics and contributed to a cultural shift in the region, as well as invigorated local civil rights activists and those in neighboring states 1. In 1956 Meredith read about Eisenhower s decision to send federal troops to Little Rock Arkansas to enforce the Brown decision. This news made him confident in his existing belief that if he wanted to be admitted to Ole Miss he would need backing from the federal government.6 The backing of Meredith by the Kennedy Administration adds an interesting dimension to the narrative of Ole Miss. Involvement of federal politics in black issues has historically been dependent on whether it is in the interest of the federal government. During Reconstruction, for example, progressive reforms initiated by the Republican Party were motivated by the necessity of having a politically loyal contingent of voters in Southern, democrat dominated states.7 With the start of the Cold War Washington D.C. s interest in the lives and desires of African Americans is renewed as it struggles to overcome its racist image in recently liberated former colonies overseas in Africa and Asia8. Although it is irrelevant to the discussion of the events that transpired at the university and to race relations in Mississippi, the foreign policy responsible for the involvement of the federal government ... Advertisement Of Skyy Vodka The Appeal to Female Dominance: Skyy Vodka The advertisement is specifically directed towards women in the way that it appeals to what they believe Skyy Vodka can give them. In the advertisement there is a woman in a black dress leaning back eating olives with a martini glass between her fingers. On the floor is the Skyy vodka bottle and a man in a suit between her arm and body who seems to be passed out with his arms spread apart with a tie covering his eyes. The foreground shows the man womanis in her apartment, while the background is red and in the upper left hand corner of the page it says #18 She Wins. The first thing the ad demonstrates is empowered women who are in control of their sexuality and can get what they want in a relationship. The next thing the Skyy Vodka appeals to is power this is obvious because of the body language, clothes, red setting and title. The author uses a lot of archetypes and allusions throughout the book to add a fuller description to the events Melinda had gone through, which will help the readers to better understand what Anderson is trying to tell. When Melinda started her first day of high school, she suffered from peer pressure with her best friend who had just left her, and everyone had hated her because she ruined a party during summer break by calling the police. If the tree meant to shelter , then Melinda sure developed a very nice shelter for herself in the end. Laurie Anderson also used allusions while describing Melinda s trauma. IT sees me. IT smiles and winks. Good thing my lips are stitched together or I d throw up. (Anderson 96). The book Maya Angelou is written by a girl who was once raped. The experience is similar between Melinda and Angelou. The audience may not fully understand what Melinda was thinking during that time, but the book, Maya Angelou, fully describes the life of a raped girl which gave us a fuller understanding of the situation that Melinda was dealing with. His role was a very responsible one, and it was vital that he be a person of honest character. The possibilities for theft or misuse of his master s possessions were great. As we look at the principles concerning the steward we will see that true stewardship involves how we deal with the resources God has entrusted to us. This includes our money, time, possessions, bodies, families and ministry. From the beginning we see that God had provided for mankind, and has the desire to see man responsibly disperse his provision. He lived in Potiphar s house and directed both Potiphar s household and his fields. But the story of his temptation by Potiphar s wife clearly shows that Joseph never forgot that all these things belonged to his master and that there were limits to what he could do. He could enjoy the fruits of his labor as long as his master was pleased with his stewardship, and as long as he did not sin against Potiphar. Later, Joseph again was made a steward, first of the jailer and then of Pharaoh himself. As steward of Pharaoh, he was the wealthiest man in Egypt after Pharaoh. However his position depended on his faithfulness to administrate the affairs of Pharaoh in a manner that pleased Pharaoh. The Apostle Paul also clearly taught that we are stewards of Christ. Church leaders are especially responsible to minister the mysteries of God (1Co 4:1 2; Eph 3:2; Tit 1:7). He also taught that our mMaster is coming back suddenly, at a time when we do not expect hHim (1Th 5:2). • 12. The Management Involved With Everest Simulation Created By... 1.0 Introduction Mount Everest, as the highest mountain in the world, is famous for the enormous challenge of reaching its summit. This analytic essay is an analysis of the management involved with the Everest Simulation created by Harvard Business School. During this 3hour simulation I was the team doctor and achieved all ten of the possible ten points available, therefore 100% of goals were achieved. This score is related to the goals I accomplish as an individual and as a team. I enjoyed the simulation and expanded upon my knowledge as it taught a profound understanding of team dynamics, the capability to accept change, a stronger ability to analyse available information and create effective communication. Our team as a whole obtained 94% of our goals. 2.0 Leadership 2.1 Issue Our team s major goal when completing this simulation was to ensure we scored as many points as possible not only individually but collectively. The enticement to get every member to the summit was alluring; however as a team we decided it was better to stop and contemplate each stage in order to maximise points. As the simulation was a highly structured task this made the concept of an individual leading and managing the team ultimately redundant. Each group member contributed towards being team leader as the group worked cooperatively and cohesively throughout. This issue corresponds to the theory of leadership and in particular substitutes for leadership. A team working as one making informed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Folk Rock music is a blend between folk music that is blended with rock and pop; it was created in the 1960 s when it started out with two different artists, Bob Dylan the Band, and the Byrd s. The folk revival of the 1960s is often the starting point of fascination with the style for many contemporary folk fans. One big effect of the 60s folk revival was that it marked the beginning of folksingers, on a large scale, writing their own material. Since in folk rock, most are singer/songwriters, instruments that are typically used are electric guitar, electric bass and drums. Some bands, such as Judah and the Lion, will also add... Country music was developed right here in the USA down in the south in the 1920 s, being that was the first ever recording. It is also one of the firsts of popular modern American music. In the 1930 s and 1940 s before the television was invented, it was common that American families would sit around a radio to listen to entertainment, and one of the most popular programs was a live country show called the Grand Ole Opry . It was based out of Nashville, which we all know as the home of country music. Back then people would listen to what was called Western music which would have a bunch of clicks and clacks and sound like a horse like beat and would have singing cowboys. In the early 1950 s another kind of country music developed and it was known as bluegrass, and the later in the 1960 s country rock began to appear since the country genre was being beat out by rock bands (and this is also when my favorite, Folk Rock, became about.) The Conventions of the Soap Opera Genre with Reference to at Least Two Programmes The soap opera genre originated in America in the 1930s as a radio programme. It was targeted at housewives who tuned in while doing their household chores. Soaps included many domestic issues to keep the audience interested. The name soaps came from advertising slots between programmes. As the soaps were aimed at housewives, the adverts mainly consisted of products of a domestic nature. One aspect of continuity is the theme tunes played at the start and the end of the programme. At the beginning of all soaps there is a main theme tune. In Eastenders the programme begins with the drum roll. It is loud and easily recognisable. As this is playing, a large birds eye view of London is shown. It gradually zooms in onto Albert Square as the soap begins. This sets the scene effectively as the audience instantly know where the soap is set. It also makes it seem more realistic as it is set in a real location as opposed to the setting being in a studio. In Coronation Street the theme tune is a violin melody. This also has easily distinguishable shots of Weatherfield shown as it is played. The theme tune is distinctive and one that the audience will recognise when they switch on to watch the soap. Theme tunes help to create habits for viewers who hear them and sit down to watch the soap. They set the scene allowing the viewer to become more quickly absorbed into the action. Another aspect of continuity is the reliance upon the cliff hanger scene at the end of an episode. A cliffhanger is when the audience are left in suspense after an event that is not concluded within the episode, ensuring they will watch next time. Often soaps finish with a ... • 15. Rebellion Against Slavery in Fires of Jubilee by Stephen... Fires of Jubilee is a book that is talking about slavery and rebellion against it. The book is enjoyable but still is very saddening because of the occurrences in the plots. Slavery is not something to be happy about. Humans treating other humans with no mercy, and making them works with no pay for extended hours. The killings made by the slaves are saddening, too. Mutilating the whites and leaving their bodies lying is inhumane. It is such a shocking story. This book was meant to teach the reader on the inhumanity of slavery. Nat thought that he should use his intelligence and the respect he was given when he was a kid to start a rebellion against slavery. He said the God had shown him visions and he was the chosen one to stop slavery (Oates, 2009). Nat grew up as a polite man who never do anything wronged to anyone and even became the slave preacher. This made the whites trust him. Joseph Travis saw him as the most behaved black and was even given credit to conduct unsupervised meetings in the church (Oates, 2009); which gave Nat room to explain his desire to revolt as asked for the people who could help him. The message about a rebellion spread to the slaves in Southampton and small revolts followed. On August 1831 Nat led a group of armed slaves in the middle of the night and went round the homes of the whites killing them and living the bodies behind. They did this for two days but Nat killed nobody because of his Christian belief, but he thought that he was sent by God to free the slaves from bondage (Oates, 2009). The slaves had been mistreated for many years so they killed even women and children. The Southampton residents thought that the killings were done by the British and it was a starting of another war. • 18. The Effects Of Advertising On Society Essay The Effects of Advertising on Society Fr. Kavanaugh was on the mark when describing the effects of advertising on society. Our moral values are being degraded by the bombardment of impropriety by the media. Adler would be quick in pointing out the reason why these messages have such a negative effect on people. There are two main tactics advertisers use to sell their product: either imply that their product will bring about the achievement of a particular (usually real) good, or make their product the object of desire, therefore making it an apparent good to people. The problem with associating products with the achievement of a good lies more in the realm of truth than in good, because it lies in whether ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though these products are by no means needs, the associations make people believe that the advertised product embodies the good they need, and to achieve that good they must buy the product. Companies don t advertise perfumes, for example; they advertise relationships. They don t advertise clothing; they advertise independence. Slowly, as people hear these messages more and more, they start associating more importance to the product than to the good involved, like a sort of idol worship and here is where the real problems set in. Now that advertisers have people sold on the product, they can influence people s desires. This is what Fr. Kavanaugh saw when he said that advertising is damaging society s moral values. Calvin Klein, for example, has already become one of those companies whose product has become more important than the good they represent in other words, Calvin Klein products are now in and of themselves the good some people try to achieve. Thus, when their ads show immoral situations or actions (like the infamous child pornography ads that spurred many debates and a lawsuit against the company), people associate these immoral actions with the quot;good quot; Calvin Klein products, and people will slowly grow desensitized to them. We will reach this point relatively soon. Kurzweil estimates that the Singularity will arrive in 2045. An important reason why we are reaching this point is exponential growth. As time goes on, we double the growth of computing consistently. As you can see in the chart on the right, the growth of computing has increased drastically. They assure terrorists that their grievances will receive public attention; yet they also can mobilize public opinion against the arbitrary use of violence by stripping terrorism of its romantic veneer and exposing its violent underpinnings to public scrutiny.20 The proposed general industry guidelines should minimize the harms from publicizing terrorist events while maximizing the speech interests vital to a democratic society (Moffitt, 1998). In previous decades, the journalistic mission was to report the news as it actually happened, with fairness, balance, and integrity; Profit gaining motives associated with journalism have forced much of today s television news to look to the spectacular, the stirring, and the controversial as news stories. It s no longer a race to break the story first or get the facts right. Instead, it s to acquire good ratings in order to get advertisers, so that profits soar. The goals of terrorists are not solely confined to winning the attention of the masses. In addition to that, through the media, they aim to publicize their political causes, inform both friends and foes about the motives for terrorist deeds, and explain their rationale for resorting to violence... The Importance Of Self Improvement And The Value Of Education The importance of self improvement and the value of education A person is not defined by their past and the mistakes that they have made. They are defined by what obstacles they have gone through and overcome in order to grow into the person that they are today. Without struggle, there is no progress. No one can self improve unless they are willing and able to overcome the challenges of life. Two important morals in my life are : always making the room to self improve, and valuing my education. Through my American story, I plan to share how I learned to appreciate the meaning of education, and the importance of improving and bettering myself. Guest presentations and readings of other American s narratives this semester, such as the presentation by David Delizza, Gary Shtyengart s novel Super Sad True Love Story, The Narrative of Frederick Douglass , and The chicken in the hen house by David Sedaris, all have made a further emphasis on aspects relevant to my life and my own story as an American. David Delizza, one of our guest speakers, provided excellent advice on the topics of self improvement and education. In David s opinion, education and self improvement are extremely important, and are two factors that have helped him to accomplish many goals in life. When David was placed on academic probation in college due to his low GPA, his school asked him to remove himself from the program. He said no and set out to prove them wrong. • 34. Cognitive Therapy And Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Essay Since the beginning of psychotherapy as a discipline and theoretical body of knowledge, there has been many different psychotherapies developed and practiced. Some psychotherapies share similarities and, at times, use the same mechanisms of change (e.g., cognitive therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy) while other psychotherapies are fundamentally distinct from each other (e.g., psychoanalysis and acceptance and commitment therapy). The integration of the mechanisms and theoretical basses of two or more psychotherapies has been sought out as a means to create methods of psychotherapythat are increasingly effective and useful for practitioners. Integrating aspects of different psychotherapies has been attempted in four ways; by using assimilative integration, technical eclecticism, theoretical integration, and common factors (CF). Assimilative integration is a popular method of practice that relies on the practitioner having one dominant theoretical grounding and using methods from other psychotherapies when they are seen to be useful in therapy. In other words, the therapist dominantly practices one theoretical orientation, which he or she uses for the fundamental cause of pathology and most therapeutic techniques, while using techniques from other theoretical orientations when they would benefit particular patients or be suitable in certain situations. An example of the assimilative integration approach is when a cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) practitioner decides ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Racial Discrimination And Capital Punishment Racial discrimination and capital punishment has been a heated topic discussed ever since the 1972 case Furman v. Georgia. In the article, Does Racial Discrimination Make Capital Punishment Wrong? by Stephen Nathanson, his position in this argument is affirmative as he argues that racial discrimination makes capital punishmentwrong since death penalty is administered in an arbitrary manner. Arbitrariness is the quality of being determined by chance or impulse, and not by reason or principle. He claims capital punishment has been used disproportionately and arbitrarily since black people who murderare more likely to be executed than white people. His position rests on an argument from analogy. He gives two analogies, in which he compares two cases which he explains one, that he tells his class that anyone who plagiarizes will fail the course. Three students of his plagiarize papers, but only one receives a failing grade. The other two, in describing their motivation, win his sympathy. The second analogy, in his child s birthday party, he offers a price to the child who can solve a particular puzzle. Three children, including his own solve the puzzle. He cannot reward them all, so he gives the price to his own child. He states in these cases that the people involved are treated unjust because it would have been better to fail no one that to fail a single student. Or to give the prize to no one than to his child alone. He undermines his critics initial arguments ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Diction In Blackberry-Picking By Seamus Heaney In Seamus Heaney s poem, Blackberry Picking , the author utilizes diction, alliteration, and rhyme in order to express his discontent in how greedy people can become when they desire something. Heaney wishes to present this idea to his reader through very aggressive diction. The poet juxtaposed the summer s blood (7) in his poem with the juice, or blood of blackberries, admiring the fruitfor its addicting taste which reawakens his temptation every summer. • 46. Notes On Machine Learning And The Development Of Computer... Chapter 2: INTRODUCTION TO MACHINE LEARNING 2.1 Definition Learning like intelligence, covers a wide range of processes that it is challenging to define accurately. Regarding machines, we might define, very broadly, that a machine learns whenever it changes its structure, program, or data (based on its inputs or in response to external information) in such a manner that its expected future performance improves [5]. Machine learning is a type of artificial intelligence (AI) that equips computers with the ability to learn without being explicitly programmed. Machine learning focuses on the development of computer programs that can teach themselves to grow and change when exposed to new data. The process of machine learning is analogous to data mining. Both systems explore through data to look for patterns. However, machine learning uses that data to detect patterns in data and adjust program actions accordingly. Currently, machine learning is more advanced from pattern recognition to theory that computers can learn without being programmed to perform specific tasks. The iterative aspect of machine learning is important because as models are exposed to new data, they are able to independently adapt. They learn from previous computations to produce reliable, repeatable decisions and results. [6] Robot learning is a research field at the intersection of machine learning and robotics. Following the horrific human rights violations committed by the Nazis in World War II, the global community began to take the proper steps to combat the notion that being at war sanctions gross abuses of human rights. It was not a lust for violence that elongated the process of establishing the ICC (international criminal court), but rather the long time battle between accepting that the world is increasingly affected by globalization and holding fast to the age old tradition of prizing state sovereignty above all. The scale of the genocidecarried out against all peoples not of Aryan descent in the 1940s was the catalyst needed to start talks about prizing guaranteed rights over the incessant need to abide by antiquated customary law. Whilst many argue that the ICC and ad hoc tribunals such as the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) fail to provide a comprehensive international legal framework, they serve other important purposes. Firstly, the ICC and its parent tribunals played a major part in ending the culture of impunity. The Nervous System And How It Interacts With Our Body The Nervous System and How It Interacts With Our Body Andrew Reynolds Introduction: There was a common characteristic in all of the experiments performed, that being it involved the nervous system and how it worked within the body to elicit different responses based on different stimuli. Signals in the nervous system were fired, which triggered a response somewhere in the body. This requires two systems to accomplish this, the afferent and efferent systems. The afferent system is the system responsible for sending signals from the receptors to the central nervous system. The efferent system is responsible for sending the response away from the central nervous system to the area in which it wishes to produce an action. Between these two systems is an integrating center, or control center. The afferent brings information from the receptor into the integrating center, the information is processed, and then a response is sent away from the integrating center by the efferent system and the response occurs. Dynamic task dependent regulation of reflexes controlled by the central nervous system plays an integral part in neurocontrol of locomotion, shows how the central nervous system and the reflex arcs that it causes are vital for the body to be able to function (Hofstoetter, U. This reaction is moderated by the baking soda so that the smoke bomb creates smoke for a longer period of time rather than just burning out. During the combustion of the smoke bomb, the sugar will be oxidized to carbon dioxide and water. The nitrogen in the potassium nitrate will be reduced to nitrogen gas. The potassium will end up as potassium carbonate (the carbon coming from the CO2 from the sugar). (Smoke Bombs, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
