Functional Training Vs Physical Therapy
Functional Training
People who practice functional training or physical therapy use similar techniques to help their
clients improve their mobility and physical quality of life. Physical and occupational therapists,
chiropractors, athletic trainers, and coaches use functional training exercises that mimic everyday
functional movements like pushing, pulling, squatting, walking, and running to improve a person s
strength, mobility, stability, and flexibility. These exercises help patients and athletes to reach their
goals safely and without causing further harm to an injury.
The Purpose of Functional Training
Functional training involves bodyweight resistance exercises, free and machine weights, medicine
balls, kettlebells, and various other equipment. Exercises are used to mimic the way the body
naturally moves thus limiting the potential for injury. Building muscles like the biceps or
quadriceps in isolation are not the purpose of functional training. Instead, the purpose is to
strengthen the muscles and build muscle endurance so that a client can better perform daily living
tasks. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Physical Therapy
A person doesn t have to have a physical impairment, injury, disability, or a medical referral to
receive functional training. For example, athletic trainers use functional training techniques on
athletes to help improve their game time performance. In some cases, individuals can practice
functional training exercises without the assistance of a

Integrated Cirriculum Research Paper
Integrated Cirriculum Research Paper
Integrated curriculums are constantly becoming more popular with educators each and every day.
It seems that with this increased enthusiasm there should also be an increased activity of integration
taking place within the classroom. This, however, does not seem to be the case. Math and Science
integration has been widely talked about and supported by educators young and old, but critics state
that there is little evidence to show the effectiveness of integration in the classroom.
The reasons for the integration of subjects in the classroom are many and easily understood.
Mathematics and science can easily be integrated given that mathematics is often the tool for doing
and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, in the midst of this rush to support an integrated curriculum, many educators question the
effectiveness of an integrated curriculum, and they also question the lack of research supporting
integration over traditional curriculum. (Czerniak, 1999)
It seems that a definition for the term integration cannot be easily agreed upon. (Huntley, 1999) In
fact there are so many different terms for integration that it s easy to see why many would question
its effectiveness. The terms include interdisciplinary, thematic, nested, transdisciplinary, integrated,
connected, sequenced, shared, webbed, threaded, immersed, networked, blended, unified,
coordinated, fused, teamed and multidisciplinary. This can only indicate the lack of coherence
regarding what is meant by science and math integration. (Judson 2000) Within these different terms
you will also most likely find different meanings for different educators. Without a clear focused
definition we cannot have a basis for designing, carrying out, and interpreting the results of
research. (Czerniak, 1999)
Even if we can get by this lack of definition and see math and science integration at work in the
classroom we might see some of the disadvantages of integration that critics are talking about. One
example is research showing how integration and thematic instruction in math and science is quite
restricting because concepts included are narrowed to a specific framework.

Naming Alcohols in Chemistry
In chemistry, an alcohol is in the hydroxyl functional group ( OH) is bound to a carbon atom. In
particular, this carbon center should be saturated, having single bonds to three other atoms.
Important alcohols are the simple acyclic alcohols. Of those, ethanol (C2H5OH) is the type of
alcohol found in alcoholic beverages, and in common speech the word alcoholrefers specifically to
ethanol. When it comes to alcohol reactions the functional group of the alcohols is the hydroxyl
group OH. Unlike the alkyl halides, this group has two reactive covalent bonds, the C O bond and
the O H bond. The electronegativity of oxygen is greater than carbon and hydrogen. The covalent
bonds of this functional group are polarized so that oxygen is electron... Show more content on

In the monohydric alcohol group there is Methanol (wood alcohol), ethanol (alcohol), isopropyl
alcohol (rubbing alcohol), Butyl alcohol (butanol), pentanol (amyl alcohol), and hexadecan 1 ol
(cetyl alcohol). Another group of alcohols would be the polyhydric alcohols. With these alcohols
there are ethane 1,2 diol (ethylene glycol), propane 1,2 diol (propylene glycol), Propane 1,2,3
triol (glycerol), Butane 1,2,3,4 tetraol (Erythritol, Threitol), Pentane 1,2,3,4,5 pentol (xylitol),
Hexane 1,2,3,4,5,6 hexol (Mannitol, Sorbitol), Heptane 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 heptol (volemitol).
Another group of alcohols would be the unsaturated aliphatic alcohols. In this group would be
Prop 2 ene 1 ol (allyl alcohol), 3, 7 Dimethylocta 2, 6 dien 1 ol (geraniol), and Prop 2 in 1 ol

there is Cyclohexane 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 hexol (inositol) and 2 (2 propyl) 5 methyl cyclohexane 1 ol
(menthol) (Britannica). The names above are just a list of some of the alcohols that can be found
within the big range and different types of alcohols. The alcohols above use the same formats as
alkanes to be named. When it comes to alcohols and naming them they will end with the letters ol at
the end of the name, which means that they are alcohols. When it comes to alcohol reactions the

The Oceanic Corporation (Determining the Cost of Capital)
The Oceanic Corporation (Determining the Cost of Capital) Larry Stone wants to estimate the
firm s hurdle rate because it is a benchmark for how well the company needs to do on a project in
order to at least break even. The higher the hurdle rate, the riskier the project will have to be and
the lower the hurdle rate is, the safer the project will be for a company. A company should strive
for a financing mix that minimizes the hurdle rate and matches the assets being financed. If there
are not enough investments that earn the hurdle rate or better, then the cash should be given as
dividends to the stockholders. As long as the risk is roughly the same for all divisions and there
are no outliers, then it doesn t matter if Larry... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay about The Breakfast Club
The Breakfast Club
Almost 150 years ago, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr., expressed the following sage but sad
observation in his book The Professor at the Breakfast Table : Society is always trying in some
way or other to grind us down to a single flat surface. Unfortunately, this is still true today. Last
week I saw the movie The Breakfast Club written and directed by John Hughes which expressed a
similar theme. Fortunately, youth of every age are quite aware of what they are going through and
have the ability to break the fast imposed on them by the socialization process which begins in the
home and is reinforced at school, not only by students and parents but teachers like Mr. Vernonas

See what he ll be like in 5 years. It is ironic that he has developed such a cynical outlook on life,
yet he possesses such a keen insight into others personalities. However, there is a spark of hope
for him. Although obnoxious and intolerable, the others do not expose him as the guilty party for
removing the screw and closing the door. And he takes the fall to save the others when they wander
the halls. His first target is Claire.
The first thing out of the Princess s mouth is can t believe you can t get me out of this . And the

The Cause Of Maternal Death Worldwide
Abstract Maternal sepsis is preventable, yet remains the leading cause of maternal death worldwide,
according to a study published in 2013 (Acosta Knight, 2013). Early recognition of symptoms and
implementation of correct treatment is key to prevent mortality. A break in nursing education can
prevent prompt treatment to patients. Given that pregnant women are more vulnerable to infection
and susceptible to serious complications, makes a clear understanding of maternal sepsis
imperative (Joseph, Sinha, Paech, Walters, 2009). The purpose of this project was to determine if
there is a need on Memorial Hospital s LDRP unit for more education related to maternal sepsis.

Even though sepsis is a major contributor to maternal mortality, septic shock in pregnancy
fortunately is relatively rare, affecting only 0.002% to 0.010% of all births (Dutra Olvera, 2016).
Regardless of how low the statistics, maternal mortality happens and the preparedness of units
will influence a positive outcome. A needs assessment identifies the discrepancy between the
present knowledge and the desired knowledge to develop protocols and education which will
bridge the gap between the what is and what should be . The needs assessment developed for the
23 staff members on the small LDRP unit of Memorial Hospital focused on what the end
knowledge base should be. Questions were formulated after an extensive literature review, focusing
on early recognition, definitions and specifics for care. This needs assessment will help implement
protocols that will improve the care provided, as well as the comfort of the staff members face to
face with perinatal mothers.
Review of Literature Critical management of maternal sepsis is key in preventing mortality and
identifying a patient at risk can help with initiation of management. There are many risk factors of
sepsis during pregnancy. Hashmi and Khan (2014) identified that pregnant women are highly
susceptible to infection due to the maternal immune response being decreased. Some of the risk
factors named included cesarean

Employee Relationships And Patient Satisfaction
Introduction
Employee engagement surveys are probably the most common way leaders can understand what
their employees are thinking about their jobs and the organization. Currently ninety two percent of
companies use this method. (Hadjistoyanova, 2016) In the healthcare setting there is a direct link
between employee attitudes and patient satisfaction. (Powell, 2001) Improving patient satisfaction
is critical. Hospital reimbursement rate from Medicare and Medicaid revolves around the Hospital
Consumer Assessment of Healthcare providers and Systems (HCAHPS), the federal system that
monitors patient satisfaction and patient readmission rate. (HCAHPS, 2016) Without employee
engagement, you re never going to get the kind of ultimate patient experience you re hoping for
says Mike Packnett, CEO of Parkview Health. (Kruse, 2015)
Employee satisfaction doesn t necessarily mean employees are engaged. Employees can be
happy, show up for work daily, but that doesn t mean they are being productive or mindful of
patient s needs. When employees are engaged, they care. Examples would be a hospital employee
making eye contact with visitors and patients, another would be a night shift worker being aware of
quiet time during their shift. (Kruse, 2015) Leaders need to know what drives employees
engagement. Leaders that behave consistently with the organizations core values and show a
sincere interest in the employee s well being have been a link to improving employee engagement.

Essay on Herbert Hoover
Herbert Hoover
Herbert Hoover called it a noble experiment. Organized crime found it to be the opportunity of a
lifetime. Millions of Americans denounced it as an infringement of their rights. For nearly 14 years
from Jan. 29, 1920, until Dec. 5, 1933 the manufacture, transportation, and sale of alcoholic
beverages was illegal in the United States. The 18th, or Prohibition, Amendment to the Constitution
was passed by Congress and submitted to the states in 1917. By Jan. 29, 1919, it had been ratified.
Enforcement legislation entitled the National Prohibition Act (or more popularly, the Volstead act,
after Representative Andrew J. Volstead of Minnesota) was passed on Oct. 28, 1919, over
President Woodrow Wilsons veto.

Called the 15 gallon law, it prohibited the sale of alcohol in amounts of less than 15 gallons (57
liters). This limited the sale of alcohol to the wealthy. In 1846 Maine passed the first state
Prohibition law. By the mid 1850s 13 states had such laws, but by 1863 all except Maine had
repealed them.
Two major temperance organizations emerged in the decade after the Civil War. The National
Prohibition party was founded in 1869 and the Woman s Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) in
1874. Partly through their efforts six states adopted Prohibition by 1890. The strongest force behind
the movement for national Prohibition, however, was the Anti Saloon League, founded in 1893.
Unlike the Prohibition party, it did not put up candidates for public office. Instead it worked for or
against Democratic and Republican candidates, depending on their attitude toward drinking. The
league was successful in getting 33 states to pass restrictive legislation by 1920.
Forces favoring Prohibition represented a reaction against changes that were taking place in the
United States. Rural and small town values were being challenged by rapidly industrializing cities.
Millions of new immigrants mostly Roman Catholics from Eastern and Southern Europe were
viewed as a threat by the Protestant majority. Prohibition was an attempt to reassert what were
considered traditional American values and to force newer members of the

Power in International Relations
The conception is power in International Relations is a key to a better understanding of the
discipline. In many cases the definition of power affects the way in which many issues are
tackled in foreign policy or security. There are many theories that try to deal with the conception
of power, however they make a rather large number of assumptions that might make them difficult
to applicable in real life. Furthermore many of them does not take into consideration that power
evolves, therefore if we want to understand and conceptualize power in the international sphere it
is crucial to analyze different theories and conceptions of it.This essay will argue that power is a
broad term that can best be conceptualized and explained in IR by a multiplicity of theories. In
making this argument, this essay will first explain why power power is crucial in the study of
International Relations. Then two theories of power from the realist tradition , one of the
neoliberalist tradition, one of postmodernism and a critical theoryof realism will be outlined. This
theories of power will be explained and compared in order to create a complete conceptualization of
the term power than can be applied to the twentieth first century
The realist view of International Relations explains that power is crucial for International Relations
because every state is in the pursuit of it. Furthermore the words power and powerful are used very
often in the international spectrum, however a definition of it

Surface Area to Volume Ratio and the Relation to the Rate of Diffusion
Aim and Background
This is an experiment to examine how the Surface Area / Volume Ratio affects the rate of diffusion
and how this relates to the size and shape of living organisms.
The surface area to volume ratio in living organisms is very important. Nutrients and oxygen need
to diffuse through the cell membrane and into the cells. Most cells are no longer than 1mm in
diameter because small cells enable nutrients and oxygen to diffuse into the cell quickly and allow
waste to diffuse out of the cell quickly. If the cells were any bigger than this then it would take too
long for the nutrients and oxygen to diffuse into the cell so the cell would probably not ... Show

Secret Life Of Bees Analysis
In 1960 the Civil Right Act occurred which allowed African Americans more rights in return this
return more attention to racism. American Sue Monk Kidd s The Secret Life of Bees suggests
that accepting taboo actions does not necessarily compromises a person s moral compass and
can lead to an awareness and understanding of the world. In the first couple of chapters we see
Roseleen, an African American servant standing up to a group of white guys. Rosaleen lifted
her snuff which was filled with black spot, and calmly poured it across the shoes of the men s
shoes moving her hand in little loops like she was writing her name Rosaleen Daise just the way
she d practiced. (pg 32) This quote shows that Roseleen will not take crap from anybody. She is
willing to protect her freedom and her rights. She stood up to the racismshe had endured and by
doing so, stood up for herself and the oppressed. The action of an African American woman
pouring snuff on the shoes of a white male, then being able to break out of jail itself is a taboo of
that time period. By having a strong will woman of color that is taking action because she was
denied the right to be able to vote shows the injustice and prejudice of the time period. Roseleen
standing up for herself is the first part of many that sheds light on unspoken issues.
Similar to Rosaleen, August is shown as an independent business woman, unlike a stereotypic
women of that time period. Having a smart business woman in the novel creates

Redistricting, The Process Of Adjusting States
Redistricting, the process of adjusting states district lines to even the population among said
districts, has transformed into a science. Depending on a state s population, a certain amount of
agents represent that state in the House of Representatives. Well each representative has his or her
own district in their home state. These districts then play a role in electing that specific
representative to the House. This seems like a standard government function, but the Constitution
does not specify any limits on how or by who the districts should be drawn. This process has been
left to the state legislatures. The issue that we run into is that once placed in legislature hands, those
in power have the ability to draw the congressional... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, let s say we have two districts in the same state. District A contains 900,000 people
compared to district B with 100,000. This means that the people in district A have about one eighth
of the vote that the people in district B have. The supreme court ruled that this was unconstitutional,
and now redistricting requires districts to be equivalent based on population. This was one of some
court cases that has constricted states when dealing with redistricting, but states still have a lot of
wiggle room. As long as they follow strict population equality and do not dilute the votes of ethnic
minorities, the states are in the clear. The subject at hand here is not about the legality of
gerrymandering, but whether or not the redistricting process should be nonpartisan. I believe that
the current redistricting process is unfair and illogical, and that the process should be nonpartisan to
take the partisan politics out of the process, create more competitive elections, correct this flaw in
the democratic process, and relieve some gridlock that redistricting produces.
The United States of America has been built on a democratic foundation to protect and serve we the
people. The current government has two main parties, the Republicans and the Democrats, and they
will stop at nothing to maintain their positions within the government. Unfortunately,
gerrymandering is an action

Factors Influencing Political Betting On Politics
This chapter will draw out some of the characteristics of the type of person to bet on a political
outcome. It will also focus on the different types of motives why people may be tempted to place a
bet on a specific outcome.
The first distinction, that needs to be assessed is whether those betting on politics are gamblers first
and foremost, or whether their interest in politics has prompted them to put their money where
their mouth is. Betting on elections, within in America, while illegal, can still occur amongst very

Alistair Meeks is a lawyer, who is heavily involved with political betting. His underlying interest
in politics was the driving force for him to get involved with politics. He has been documented
stating he likes that politics is still considered a novelty bet, as the strong form research is less of
a feature than in sports betting . Alistair Meeks frequently writes articles for the PolitcalBetting
website. It is clear his interest is Politics and he sees it as a way to make a little bit of extra money

This suggests political betting is something that is of interest to both people with an interest in
politics, but also those who take a punt as gambling is their main focus. Political betting is
different from Sports in this sense, as it is unlikely political betters will make the move across to
sports betting. People may have been betting to keep an interest in the result and to gamble on
their own analytical ability. It could be suggested this is what makes political gambling an
interesting topic, as those placing the bets may fall outside those who are typical gamblers. The
punters involved in political gambling may be politics enthusiasts first, but with a good
understanding of betting and a desire to place money on their own ability to predict the outcome of

Our views concerning the legal rights of HCPs during times of crisis align with the general
recommendations published since the last SARS crisis in Ontario. The SARS crisis brought
several legal and ethical debates to the public place. The most popular topics related to the legal
rights of HCPs during times of crisis surround were:
The HCPs Duty to care vs. HCPs individual rights and personal autonomy to use some discretion in
determining where, how, and when they will practice medicine. (CMA, 2008);

Although, the HCPs are excluded from the OHSA, the employers still have the obligation to ensure

should prepare its resources to assure the HCPs about the safeguard of their health and their family
members when on duty in high risk situation (Ruderman, et al., 2006).
Also, HCPs, should not fear more risks from a crisis, such as undue workload, financial burden, up
to employment dismissal (Upshur et al., 2005).
,In 2016, the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (MoHLTC) has put in place the Building a

careless choice is wanting to take his life away. Emotion also plays a very significant role in the
movie. When George Bailey s guardian angel makes it so that George was never born, he gets to
see how the people and the town are really affected by his nonexistence. Seeing that his wife
Mary does not have a happy life and that his old boss went to prison for putting drugs in those
capsules that he could have prevented if he was alive, is really emotional to him and he feels
heartbroken. He notices that the once before Bailey Park is now Potterville, and all the decent
houses that were built there are now old slums and people are in poverty due to Mr. Potter s lack
of emotion and kindness. George witnesses all these catastrophic changes and it pains him to see
so much suffering that he could have prevented. George Bailey is a kind man, and his emotional
feelings tell him that in fact he does not want to die. He realizes that whatever problems that he is
having can be fixed and that the world is not coming to an end just for $8,000. Seeing everyone s

Response to His Coy Mistress Essay
Response to His Coy Mistress Andrew Marvell s To His Coy Mistress is the charming depiction
of a man who has seemingly been working very hard at seducing his mistress. Owing to Marvell
s use of the word coy, we have a clear picture of the kind of woman his mistress is. She has been
encouraging his advances to a certain point, but then when he gets too close, she backs off, and
resists those same advances. Evidently, this has been going on for quite some time, as Marvell
now feels it necessary to broach the topic in this poem. He begins in the first stanza by gently
explaining that his mistress s coyness would not be a crime if there were world enough, and
time… (l.2). He compares his love to a vegetable, which... Show more content on

We are left with no doubt as to what the fate of the lovers will be, as well as the state of his own
feelings for her: then worms shall try That long preserved virginity, And your quaint honor turn
to dust, And into ashes all my lust (ll. 26 30). These lines seem a bit morbid, but I also sense the
use of horror, on Marvell s part, to further convince his mistress to succumb to his affections. He
is basically telling her that if she continues to resist him, it will be the worms that remove her
virginity from her, as opposed to someone who really cares about her, namely him. He also
reminds her that the honor that she is clinging to so tightly to will mean nothing when worms
know her intimately. Further, his feelings for her will be utterly gone. The second stanza ends
with these lines, my favorite: The grave s a fine and private place, / But none I think do there
embrace. This ironic statement provides the crowning argument: Marvell has just described a love
that would be timeless if such a thing were allowed. With a love such as this how can they let time
slip through their fingers, and justify it? This also provides the second, and perhaps more
important theme in the poem. The message is that the lovers, and consequently we who read the
poem, should use the time we have been given to the best of our advantage. In the case of Marvell
and his mistress, they should use the time to clutch at the love that is there in

My Experience At Starbucks And Drinking Coffee
I sit in my kitchen every morning, with one eye open, listening to the sound of the dripping water
as it fills the clear decanter with black liquid gold. The smell of hazelnut aroma fills the air and a
sigh of relief escapes my breath knowing that it s almost time to taste the delicious coffee that will
awaken my senses and help me start the new day. Coffee, also known as Joe, Dirt, Brew, Java, Jitter
Juice, and Liquid Energy, has been a staple in my family since I was a small boy. I still remember
my father hunched over the kitchen table reading the morning newspaper while drinking a fresh
cup of Joe. As an adult I have come to appreciate coffee especially in the morning, relaxing with

In addition, carbohydrates play an important role in the coffee bean. Carbohydrates serve as an
aroma binder in raw coffee beans. They help the quality of coffee by contributing to its thickness

to assist probiotics within the digestive system. Coffee is also the number one source of
antioxidants. This simple drink is concentrated with a group of antioxidants that are called
flavonoids. According to medical journals flavonoids possess antiviral, anti allergic, anti
platelet, anti inflammatory, and antitumor activities. Coffee has been around for many first

wild have been known to produce coffee beans for up to thirty years. Whereas the shrub or small

a cherry and contains two seeds that is surrounded by a sweet pulp. In addition, coffee has been

A Comparison Of The Eucharist
In Pope John Paul II s encyclical, Ecclesia de Eucharistia, he claims the Church draws her life from
the Eucharist. John Paul II also emphasizes how the Eucharist is a priceless treasure, (25). Alike,
the Catholic Intellectual Tradition is also a priceless treasure of the church. Without, the tradition,
the Church would definitely be different today. But this isn t the only resemblance among the
Eucharist and the Catholic Intellectual Tradition. To begin, the Catholic Intellectual Tradition is
Eucharistic because it is living. The tradition is constantly growing and being added to, so it can be
passed on through generations. Correspondingly, the Eucharist is also centered on growth. The
encyclical reads, The Second Vatican Council teaches that the celebration of the Eucharist is at the
center of the process of the Church s growth...The Apostles, by accepting in the Upper Room Jesus
invitation: Take, eat , Drink of it, all of you (Mt 26:26 27), entered for the first time into sacramental
communion with him. From that time forward, until the end of the age, the Church is built up
through sacramental communion with the Son of God who was sacrificed for our sake, (21). The
Church grows through the Eucharist as communion among believers take part in the sacrament. In
addition, the church is growing through evangelization like the tradition grows in knowledge. In a
parallel way, the Catholic Intellectual tradition also promotes communion like the Eucharist. A

I was expecting to be correct in the assumption in the case of debit card holders having to make
less visits to ATM machines than non debit card holders, but I was also prepared to be proven
wrong in the same scenario should the study and information we discovered shed light on the
other side of the argument in this case. Reasoning out the hypothesis statement that people with
debit cards would automatically no longer need to make as many trips to ATM machines does
seem to be the logical deduction, as it only makes sense that a person who can then have access
to his account and able to make withdrawals from any location that can accept debit cards would
then have little need to go directly to his or her banks own ATM machine. On the other hand,
what may make sense does not always happen to be what occurs, and so we were ready to put our
hypothesis to the test to prove our reasoning and confirm or refute our case.
From the information gathered and the studies we researched, I was quite pleased at the results
I had found. In nearly every case in which I was able to document and verify that the data came
from a trusted source, I was discovering a near two to one ATM visitation rate between non debit
card holders and those that did possess debit cards. The extremes of the test did prove to be
fascinating in showing the disparity of the data collected, and showed that even with room for
error, my hypothesis was well deserved. In one case,

Drunk Driver And Drunk Drivers
In 2013, 10,076 people died because of drunk drivers. One every 52 minutes.
290,000 were injured because of the accidents (MADD). In 2012, 3,328 people died because of
car crashes due to the fact that drivers were on their phones. 421,000 were injured (Texting and
Driving Statistics).
Driving is not an easy task so you should always be attentive to what you re doing. A big
difference between both is being sober and being drunk. Someone that s drunk isn t fully aware of
what s going on. Someone who is sober but is on their phone is more dangerous because they aren t
looking at what s ahead. Even though both drunk driving at texting while driving are different, the
thing that s most important for both is to keep yourself as well as the people around you safe.
The exact definition of drunk is being in a temporary state in which one s physical and mental
faculties are impaired by an excess of alcoholic drink (Dictionary).
When someone s drunk they are not functioning at their 100%. You will never ask someone to
make an important decision while they re drunk. So why would someone who is drunk drive?
Usually they think they aren t as drunk and are able to drive safely.
That is not a good idea. Driving while drunk can cause a serious accident which will harm you and

Observation And Analysis Of Hispanic Infant Essay
OBSERVATION AND ANALYSIS OF HISPANIC INFANT OR TODDLER 2
I) Introduction
Tre is the pseudonym the parents chose for the anonymity of this youth. Tres means three in
Spanish but was shortened to Tre because he happens to be the third generation with his father s
name. Tre was born in 2012 into a mixed family, the father is a full blooded Hispanic and the
mother is a Caucasian woman, but Tre definitely takes after his father. Tre now looks very
similar to the pictures that his parents presented of the father when he was the same age. Prior
to this observation research was done into the developmental stage of a three year old and upon
observation Tre seems to fit into the normal progressive state that any child of three would go
through. He s smart, imaginative, creative, not at all shy, and seems to be well mannered, but
maybe a little spoiled. Tre was the first baby born and also the first male born into this family in 14
years. Desi has a little girl born from a prior relationship who is now 5. Lucy also has three girls of
her own from a previous marriage. Lucy is even lucky enough to be a grandmother at 40 years
of age to one child with a second on the way. Desi and Lucy are the parents of Tre and who

Environmental Issues in North America and the World
Introduction North America has been struggling immensely since the last century with air and
water pollution, deforestation, and overpopulation. These struggles are due to poor prevention
planning and industrial manifestation. Pollution is changing the atmosphere much sooner than
expected and global warming is predicted to overwhelm the atmosphere within the next half of a
century. In order to sustain the environment and atmosphere humans must take immediate action

Air Pollution and Global Warming The biggest cause of air pollution in North America comes from
carbon dioxide emissions. Fossil fuel, electricity, and vehicle technology has been an enormous
contribution to the emission of greenhouse gases. Greenhouse gases are gases that attract radiation
from the sun into the earth s exterior and its environment. Producing an overabundance of
greenhouse gases at a time may dramatically change the atmosphere as we know it today. The
ozone layer that protects human beings and many other species of plants and animals from the sun
s excruciating rays may deplete or be damaged due to too much pollution. The United States heavy
demand of fossil fuels for transportation is causing extreme confliction and competitiveness with
many other countries. Japan became so concerned with these issues that they devised a plan that
could bring countries together to compromise this extremely difficult issue. The Kyoto Protocol is
a negotiation put together by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change
(UNFCCC). The treaty was compromised in Kyoto, Japan in 1997. Countries that formally approve
this protocol devote to decrease the amount of released greenhouse gases, or trade the number of
emissions allowed from sustaining or raising the emissions of greenhouse gases. The United States
of America was not among these countries that signed the

Machiavellian Tactics In Shakespeare s Richard III
In his famed Richard III, William Shakespeare chronicles, albeit with considerable artistic
license, the meteoric rise and similarly swift fall of the work s eponymous tyrant Richard, Duke
of Gloucester. Throughout the tragedy, the playwright portrays Richard, a self proclaimed
Machiavellian and the discontented brother of the newly crowned king, as exactly the sort of
cunning and ambitious man capable of succeeding in his plot, proclaimed earlier in Shakespeare s
Henry IV, Part 3, to set the murderous Machiavel to school (Shakespeare 3.2.193). Yet in actuality,
despite such professed adherence to the infamous work The Prince, Richard tragically and

In strictly a Machiavellian sense, Richard s downfall is the direct result of his errant
implementation of The Prince s guiding ideals; whereas for Shakespeare, the tragic failure of the
Duke of Gloucester, though in part due to his missteps as a Machiavellian, most notably evidences
the effects of conscience on the actions of men. Throughout the play, Shakespeare demonstrates the
manner in which the Machiavellian desire to acquire (Machiavelli 14) drives characters such as
Clarence, his murderers and, above all, Richard to commit inhuman acts of evil to further their own
self interests. This behavior, Machiavelli would assert, is perfectly natural and inherently good so
long as carried out with prudence. Shakespeare, however, underscores the fundamental falsehood of
such thinking with his repeated illustration of the way in which one s sense of morality, to quote
Queen Margaret s curse, begnaw[s] [the] soul (Shakespeare 1.3.221) of those who do wrong. In the
case of the unnamed Second Murderer, for instance, the conscience that construct so foreign to
Machiavellian thought very nearly prevents the hardened criminal from carrying out the murder of
the innocent Clarence by fill[ing] [him] full of obstacles (Shakespeare 1.4.141). Though

Angel Of The Last Judgment
Wassily Kandinsky s Angel of the Last Judgment was made during the pre war times in Europe.
Kandinsky s painting was included in the Merzbacher collection, a collection focused on how
colour had been used by European Artists in the 20th century. Kandinsky along with other Artists
such as Derain, Vlaminck and Braque were considered as Fauves meaning wild beasts a comment

Canaan Valley Wetland
Significant change has been detected in the Canaan Valley area with high accuracies. There was
a serious wetland loss from 56.17% in 1993 to 28.57% in 2002 in Canaan Valley area due to the
dramatically decrease in forested/ shrub wetland. The remaining total wetland area was
estimated only 8814.606 acres by 2002, which was about half of wetland in 1993. The dominant
wetland type was still forested/shrub wetland. Emergent wetland occupied a small amount with
16.6% of total wetland area. The Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge kept the main
wetland. Both dry season (see in Appendix) and rainy season data show this big decrease

Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare
Throughout history, Shakespeare has been given credit for the popularizing of tragedies, causing
a tragic hero to be seen as a reputable character. In Shakespeare s story Romeo and Juliet, two ill
fated lovers are caught between the bitter hatred of their two families. Knowing their parents
would never approve, Romeo and Juliet struggle to keep their love a secret. Though the story ends
in what most people would view as a tragedy, Romeo fails to meet the characteristics of a tragic hero
established by Aristotle, who first created the literary term. There are five distinguishing
characteristics of a tragic hero identified by Aristotle: noble birth, a flaw resulting in the
character s eventual downfall, a reversal of fate caused by the flaw, an increase in self
awareness, and withdrawing a feeling of pity from the audience. Romeo is born of a noble birth
and has a major flaw that will cause his eventual unfortunate fate, but he never achieves a greater
sense of self awareness. In conjunction with not enhancing his own self awareness, he also does
not inspire the audience to feel sympathy for him. When Shakespeare introduces the story of
Romeo and Juliet, he gives the impression that Romeo will develope into a perfect tragic hero. In
the opening line of the prologue, the Montagues are described as a wealthy and powerful family,
Two households, both alike in dignity (1.Prologue.1). Romeo s noble birth remains unknown until

themselves primarily through their labouring activity. Labour is therefore what they live for, it
defines human beings and also performs functions by connecting them to their existence. This is
achieved in three senses which Marx outlined (Morrison, 2006). Firstly individuals exert control
over nature which makes them active in history, rather than passive. Secondly, labour provides the
necessities a human requires to live, without it they would have no food, shelter or clothing and
would not exist. Thirdly Marx believed labour allows an individual to define themselves. Through
labour humans feel in control of their survival and are confirmed in their own existence (Morrison,
p. 120). The essence of the individual is labour, it is central to human development. Humans still

Similarities Between The Odyssey And The Count Of Monte...
Alexandre Dumas, Homer, and Kenneth Branagh all have done things very similar to each
other. They used symbols and imagery to represent archetypal heroes. In Dumas s (The Count of
Monte Cristo), Homer s (The Odyssey), Branagh s (movie Thor), shows archetypal heroes by
using symbols and imagery. The Island of Monte Cristo from The Count of Monte Cristo, The
Island of Ithaca from The Odyssey, and Thor s hammer from the movie Thor. These are the main
symbols and imagery that are strong and represent the archetypal heroes in a unique and
different way. Dumas the author of The Count of Monte Cristo, writes a story about Edmond
Dantes. This story shares Edmond s quest about going to the Island of Monte Cristo. The Island
Of Monte Cristo is a major symbol in The Count of Monte Cristo. The main reason why Edmond
wanted to go to the island is because he wanted the treasure that was stored there. In chapter 85 it
says, A little corvette was bobbing in a fairly large cove; it had a narrow hull and tall mast with a
flag flying from the lateen yard and bearing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

through the island of Ithaca. The island of Ithaca symbolizes home. In The Odyssey on pg.168

How Does Renfield Affect The Character Of Dracula
In Alice s Adventures In Wonderland And Through The Looking Glass, Lewis Carroll wrote, I
can t explain myself, I m afraid, sir, said Alice, Because I m not myself you see. Renfield, in
Bram Stoker s novel Dracula, is a character who is not himself for the most part of the book. He
affects the reader s perception of character, the plot, and the story s mood by enhancing the gothic
elements and horror of the novel through his insane tendencies, his allowance of Draculato get to
Mina, and the overall grotesque way in which his body is described. Stoker included Renfield to
compare Dracula with a human with the same tendencies. His mental illness is defined by Dr.
Seward, My homicidal maniac is of a peculiar kind...a zoophagous (life eating) maniac. What he
desires is to absorb as many lives as he can... (Stoker 74). This is a contrast to dracula who oly
wants to survive by drinking the blood of his prey, not killing... Show more content on

Renfield allows Dracula in in this scene, ...I found myself opening the sash and saying to Him,
Come in, Lord and Master! The rats were all gone, but He slid into the room through the sash...
(Stoker 296). Renfield lets Dracula into the house, giving him free reign over his travel. Without
Renfield, Dracula would not have been able to get into the asylum, staying away from Lucy.
Stoker uses Renfield as an example of human indulgence, even though it is not right, the
temptation is overpowering. Renfield helps to advance the plot by fulfilling Dracula s plans as
well, There was a fearful scream which almost froze our hearts to hear. As he had placed the
Wafer on Mina s forehead, it had seared it...had burned into the flesh as though it had been a piece
of white hot metal. (Stoker 313). He lets Mina be turned vampiristic and she ends up having her
soul tainted. Without Renfield, the group would not have gone after

The Importance Of Correct Diagnosis At Early Stage
As a kid I used to help my father in farming at our farm. One season we didn t get our wheat crop
as expected. My father thought it is due to poor rain that season. So, next year he made sure that
we do proper watering using tube well. Again the crop was poor. We put a lot of effort and did
everything we could do for next couple of years as farming was our only source of income. But,
the crop was getting worse with every season. Finally, we consulted with local agriculture officer
to find out that alkaline level in our soil has been increasing rapidly and is adversely affecting
our crop. If we knew it earlier we could have avoid losing crop for several years. It is when I
realized the importance of correct diagnosis at early stage. This infused my interest in doing
correct diagnose and finding the root cause of problem in every life situation. This interest, along
with my love for research, labs, and medicine, has grown many folds over the years. Today, I can
say that pathology is my only career interest.
As a pathologist, I will strive to incorporate all the skills that I have acquired through academic,
work, and life experiences in my practice. My demonstrated commitment to volleyball has helped
me in building skills that I can utilize in my career as a pathologist. I represented my medical school
volleyball team at the annual All India competition for four years. In order to excel in the game, I
went through rigorous practice sessions where I observed experienced

  • 2. Functional Training Vs Physical Therapy Functional Training People who practice functional training or physical therapy use similar techniques to help their clients improve their mobility and physical quality of life. Physical and occupational therapists, chiropractors, athletic trainers, and coaches use functional training exercises that mimic everyday functional movements like pushing, pulling, squatting, walking, and running to improve a person s strength, mobility, stability, and flexibility. These exercises help patients and athletes to reach their goals safely and without causing further harm to an injury. The Purpose of Functional Training Functional training involves bodyweight resistance exercises, free and machine weights, medicine balls, kettlebells, and various other equipment. Exercises are used to mimic the way the body naturally moves thus limiting the potential for injury. Building muscles like the biceps or quadriceps in isolation are not the purpose of functional training. Instead, the purpose is to strengthen the muscles and build muscle endurance so that a client can better perform daily living tasks. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Integrated Cirriculum Research Paper Integrated Cirriculum Research Paper Integrated curriculums are constantly becoming more popular with educators each and every day. It seems that with this increased enthusiasm there should also be an increased activity of integration taking place within the classroom. This, however, does not seem to be the case. Math and Science integration has been widely talked about and supported by educators young and old, but critics state that there is little evidence to show the effectiveness of integration in the classroom. The reasons for the integration of subjects in the classroom are many and easily understood. Mathematics and science can easily be integrated given that mathematics is often the tool for doing and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, in the midst of this rush to support an integrated curriculum, many educators question the effectiveness of an integrated curriculum, and they also question the lack of research supporting integration over traditional curriculum. (Czerniak, 1999) It seems that a definition for the term integration cannot be easily agreed upon. (Huntley, 1999) In fact there are so many different terms for integration that it s easy to see why many would question its effectiveness. The terms include interdisciplinary, thematic, nested, transdisciplinary, integrated, connected, sequenced, shared, webbed, threaded, immersed, networked, blended, unified, coordinated, fused, teamed and multidisciplinary. This can only indicate the lack of coherence regarding what is meant by science and math integration. (Judson 2000) Within these different terms you will also most likely find different meanings for different educators. Without a clear focused definition we cannot have a basis for designing, carrying out, and interpreting the results of research. (Czerniak, 1999) Even if we can get by this lack of definition and see math and science integration at work in the classroom we might see some of the disadvantages of integration that critics are talking about. One example is research showing how integration and thematic instruction in math and science is quite restricting because concepts included are narrowed to a specific framework. ... In particular, this carbon center should be saturated, having single bonds to three other atoms. Important alcohols are the simple acyclic alcohols. Of those, ethanol (C2H5OH) is the type of alcohol found in alcoholic beverages, and in common speech the word alcoholrefers specifically to ethanol. When it comes to alcohol reactions the functional group of the alcohols is the hydroxyl group OH. Unlike the alkyl halides, this group has two reactive covalent bonds, the C O bond and the O H bond. The Oceanic Corporation (Determining the Cost of Capital) The Oceanic Corporation (Determining the Cost of Capital) Larry Stone wants to estimate the firm s hurdle rate because it is a benchmark for how well the company needs to do on a project in order to at least break even. The higher the hurdle rate, the riskier the project will have to be and the lower the hurdle rate is, the safer the project will be for a company. A company should strive for a financing mix that minimizes the hurdle rate and matches the assets being financed. • 7. The Cause Of Maternal Death Worldwide Abstract Maternal sepsis is preventable, yet remains the leading cause of maternal death worldwide, according to a study published in 2013 (Acosta Knight, 2013). Early recognition of symptoms and implementation of correct treatment is key to prevent mortality. A break in nursing education can prevent prompt treatment to patients. Given that pregnant women are more vulnerable to infection and susceptible to serious complications, makes a clear understanding of maternal sepsis imperative (Joseph, Sinha, Paech, Walters, 2009). A needs assessment identifies the discrepancy between the present knowledge and the desired knowledge to develop protocols and education which will bridge the gap between the what is and what should be . The needs assessment developed for the 23 staff members on the small LDRP unit of Memorial Hospital focused on what the end knowledge base should be. • 8. Employee Relationships And Patient Satisfaction Introduction Employee engagement surveys are probably the most common way leaders can understand what their employees are thinking about their jobs and the organization. Currently ninety two percent of companies use this method. (Hadjistoyanova, 2016) In the healthcare setting there is a direct link between employee attitudes and patient satisfaction. (Powell, 2001) Improving patient satisfaction is critical. Hospital reimbursement rate from Medicare and Medicaid revolves around the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare providers and Systems (HCAHPS), the federal system that monitors patient satisfaction and patient readmission rate. (HCAHPS, 2016) Without employee engagement, you re never going to get the kind of ultimate patient experience you re hoping for says Mike Packnett, CEO of Parkview Health. (Kruse, 2015) Employee satisfaction doesn t necessarily mean employees are engaged. Employees can be happy, show up for work daily, but that doesn t mean they are being productive or mindful of patient s needs. When employees are engaged, they care. Examples would be a hospital employee making eye contact with visitors and patients, another would be a night shift worker being aware of quiet time during their shift. (Kruse, 2015) Leaders need to know what drives employees engagement. Leaders that behave consistently with the organizations core values and show a sincere interest in the employee s well being have been a link to improving employee engagement. ... Millions of Americans denounced it as an infringement of their rights. Two major temperance organizations emerged in the decade after the Civil War. The National Prohibition party was founded in 1869 and the Woman s Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) in 1874. Partly through their efforts six states adopted Prohibition by 1890. The strongest force behind the movement for national Prohibition, however, was the Anti Saloon League, founded in 1893. Unlike the Prohibition party, it did not put up candidates for public office. Instead it worked for or against Democratic and Republican candidates, depending on their attitude toward drinking. The league was successful in getting 33 states to pass restrictive legislation by 1920. Forces favoring Prohibition represented a reaction against changes that were taking place in the United States. In many cases the definition of power affects the way in which many issues are tackled in foreign policy or security. There are many theories that try to deal with the conception of power, however they make a rather large number of assumptions that might make them difficult to applicable in real life. Furthermore many of them does not take into consideration that power evolves, therefore if we want to understand and conceptualize power in the international sphere it is crucial to analyze different theories and conceptions of it.This essay will argue that power is a broad term that can best be conceptualized and explained in IR by a multiplicity of theories. In making this argument, this essay will first explain why power power is crucial in the study of International Relations. Then two theories of power from the realist tradition , one of the neoliberalist tradition, one of postmodernism and a critical theoryof realism will be outlined. This theories of power will be explained and compared in order to create a complete conceptualization of the term power than can be applied to the twentieth first century The realist view of International Relations explains that power is crucial for International Relations because every state is in the pursuit of it. Surface Area to Volume Ratio and the Relation to the Rate of Diffusion Aim and Background This is an experiment to examine how the Surface Area / Volume Ratio affects the rate of diffusion and how this relates to the size and shape of living organisms. The surface area to volume ratio in living organisms is very important. Nutrients and oxygen need to diffuse through the cell membrane and into the cells. Most cells are no longer than 1mm in diameter because small cells enable nutrients and oxygen to diffuse into the cell quickly and allow waste to diffuse out of the cell quickly. • 14. Secret Life Of Bees Analysis In 1960 the Civil Right Act occurred which allowed African Americans more rights in return this return more attention to racism. American Sue Monk Kidd s The Secret Life of Bees suggests that accepting taboo actions does not necessarily compromises a person s moral compass and can lead to an awareness and understanding of the world. In the first couple of chapters we see Roseleen, an African American servant standing up to a group of white guys. Rosaleen lifted her snuff which was filled with black spot, and calmly poured it across the shoes of the men s shoes moving her hand in little loops like she was writing her name Rosaleen Daise just the way she d practiced. (pg 32) This quote shows that Roseleen will not take crap from anybody. She is willing to protect her freedom and her rights. She stood up to the racismshe had endured and by doing so, stood up for herself and the oppressed. The action of an African American woman pouring snuff on the shoes of a white male, then being able to break out of jail itself is a taboo of that time period. By having a strong will woman of color that is taking action because she was denied the right to be able to vote shows the injustice and prejudice of the time period. Roseleen standing up for herself is the first part of many that sheds light on unspoken issues. Depending on a state s population, a certain amount of agents represent that state in the House of Representatives. Well each representative has his or her own district in their home state. These districts then play a role in electing that specific representative to the House. This seems like a standard government function, but the Constitution does not specify any limits on how or by who the districts should be drawn. This process has been left to the state legislatures. This means that the people in district A have about one eighth of the vote that the people in district B have. The supreme court ruled that this was unconstitutional, and now redistricting requires districts to be equivalent based on population. This was one of some court cases that has constricted states when dealing with redistricting, but states still have a lot of wiggle room. As long as they follow strict population equality and do not dilute the votes of ethnic minorities, the states are in the clear. The subject at hand here is not about the legality of gerrymandering, but whether or not the redistricting process should be nonpartisan. I believe that the current redistricting process is unfair and illogical, and that the process should be nonpartisan to take the partisan politics out of the process, create more competitive elections, correct this flaw in the democratic process, and relieve some gridlock that redistricting produces. When people are scared, depressed and mad, they have a tendency of thinking irrational and therefore make careless choices. George Bailey s careless choice is wanting to take his life away. Emotion also plays a very significant role in the movie. When George Bailey s guardian angel makes it so that George was never born, he gets to see how the people and the town are really affected by his nonexistence. Seeing that his wife Mary does not have a happy life and that his old boss went to prison for putting drugs in those capsules that he could have prevented if he was alive, is really emotional to him and he feels heartbroken. He notices that the once before Bailey Park is now Potterville, and all the decent houses that were built there are now old slums and people are in poverty due to Mr. Potter s lack of emotion and kindness. George witnesses all these catastrophic changes and it pains him to see so much suffering that he could have prevented. George Bailey is a kind man, and his emotional feelings tell him that in fact he does not want to die. He realizes that whatever problems that he is having can be fixed and that the world is not coming to an end just for $8,000. Seeing everyone s lack of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. Response to His Coy Mistress Essay Response to His Coy Mistress Andrew Marvell s To His Coy Mistress is the charming depiction of a man who has seemingly been working very hard at seducing his mistress. Owing to Marvell s use of the word coy, we have a clear picture of the kind of woman his mistress is. She has been encouraging his advances to a certain point, but then when he gets too close, she backs off, and resists those same advances. Evidently, this has been going on for quite some time, as Marvell now feels it necessary to broach the topic in this poem. He begins in the first stanza by gently explaining that his mistress s coyness would not be a crime if there were world enough, and time… (l.2). He compares his love to a vegetable, which... We are left with no doubt as to what the fate of the lovers will be, as well as the state of his own feelings for her: then worms shall try That long preserved virginity, And your quaint honor turn to dust, And into ashes all my lust (ll. 26 30). These lines seem a bit morbid, but I also sense the use of horror, on Marvell s part, to further convince his mistress to succumb to his affections. He is basically telling her that if she continues to resist him, it will be the worms that remove her virginity from her, as opposed to someone who really cares about her, namely him. He also reminds her that the honor that she is clinging to so tightly to will mean nothing when worms know her intimately. Further, his feelings for her will be utterly gone. The second stanza ends with these lines, my favorite: The grave s a fine and private place, / But none I think do there embrace. This ironic statement provides the crowning argument: Marvell has just described a love that would be timeless if such a thing were allowed. With a love such as this how can they let time slip through their fingers, and justify it? This also provides the second, and perhaps more important theme in the poem. The message is that the lovers, and consequently we who read the poem, should use the time we have been given to the best of our advantage. In the case of Marvell and his mistress, they should use the time to clutch at the love that is there in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. A Comparison Of The Eucharist In Pope John Paul II s encyclical, Ecclesia de Eucharistia, he claims the Church draws her life from the Eucharist. John Paul II also emphasizes how the Eucharist is a priceless treasure, (25). Alike, the Catholic Intellectual Tradition is also a priceless treasure of the church. Without, the tradition, the Church would definitely be different today. But this isn t the only resemblance among the Eucharist and the Catholic Intellectual Tradition. To begin, the Catholic Intellectual Tradition is Eucharistic because it is living. The tradition is constantly growing and being added to, so it can be passed on through generations. Correspondingly, the Eucharist is also centered on growth. The encyclical reads, The Second Vatican Council teaches that the celebration of the Eucharist is at the center of the process of the Church s growth...The Apostles, by accepting in the Upper Room Jesus invitation: Take, eat , Drink of it, all of you (Mt 26:26 27), entered for the first time into sacramental communion with him. From that time forward, until the end of the age, the Church is built up through sacramental communion with the Son of God who was sacrificed for our sake, (21). I was expecting to be correct in the assumption in the case of debit card holders having to make less visits to ATM machines than non debit card holders, but I was also prepared to be proven wrong in the same scenario should the study and information we discovered shed light on the other side of the argument in this case. Reasoning out the hypothesis statement that people with debit cards would automatically no longer need to make as many trips to ATM machines does seem to be the logical deduction, as it only makes sense that a person who can then have access to his account and able to make withdrawals from any location that can accept debit cards would then have little need to go directly to his or her banks own ATM machine. On the other hand, what may make sense does not always happen to be what occurs, and so we were ready to put our hypothesis to the test to prove our reasoning and confirm or refute our case. From the information gathered and the studies we researched, I was quite pleased at the results I had found. In nearly every case in which I was able to document and verify that the data came from a trusted source, I was discovering a near two to one ATM visitation rate between non debit card holders and those that did possess debit cards. Throughout the play, Shakespeare demonstrates the manner in which the Machiavellian desire to acquire (Machiavelli 14) drives characters such as Clarence, his murderers and, above all, Richard to commit inhuman acts of evil to further their own self interests. This behavior, Machiavelli would assert, is perfectly natural and inherently good so long as carried out with prudence. • 37. Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare Throughout history, Shakespeare has been given credit for the popularizing of tragedies, causing a tragic hero to be seen as a reputable character. In Shakespeare s story Romeo and Juliet, two ill fated lovers are caught between the bitter hatred of their two families. Knowing their parents would never approve, Romeo and Juliet struggle to keep their love a secret. Though the story ends in what most people would view as a tragedy, Romeo fails to meet the characteristics of a tragic hero established by Aristotle, who first created the literary term. There are five distinguishing characteristics of a tragic hero identified by Aristotle: noble birth, a flaw resulting in the character s eventual downfall, a reversal of fate caused by the flaw, an increase in self awareness, and withdrawing a feeling of pity from the audience. Romeo is born of a noble birth and has a major flaw that will cause his eventual unfortunate fate, but he never achieves a greater sense of self awareness. In conjunction with not enhancing his own self awareness, he also does not inspire the audience to feel sympathy for him. When Shakespeare introduces the story of Romeo and Juliet, he gives the impression that Romeo will develope into a perfect tragic hero. Primarily it will give an in depth description of his idea of human nature and the key ideas surrounding Marxist theory. Secondly, it will explain the current issue and argue the rise of technology through the eyes of Marx by relating to his main concepts. Marx s views on human nature make up the philosophical element of his ideas. He believed human beings define themselves primarily through their labouring activity. Labour is therefore what they live for, it defines human beings and also performs functions by connecting them to their existence. This is achieved in three senses which Marx outlined (Morrison, 2006). Firstly individuals exert control over nature which makes them active in history, rather than passive. Secondly, labour provides the necessities a human requires to live, without it they would have no food, shelter or clothing and would not exist. Thirdly Marx believed labour allows an individual to define themselves. Through labour humans feel in control of their survival and are confirmed in their own existence (Morrison, p. 120). The essence of the individual is labour, it is central to human development. Humans still hold the power of creativity but the nature of the capitalist ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
