According to Weber Kelley (2014) the biographical data information, such as name, address, age, date
of birth and gender could help identify the person. In addition, the patient s martial status, nationality
and religion could help nurses to examine the person s belief or special needs that may affect the
healthcare treatments. Furthermore, the information of the person s occupation can help identify their
possible strengths and limitations that could affect their health status as some works might be a cause
of overwhelming stress, which would have an influence on his or her health. Reason for seeking care:
Tell me why you are here today. What is your major health problem or concerns at this time? These
questions give nurses an opportunity to apply a holistic and person centred care approach to listen to
the client s most important current health concerns (Weber Kelley (2014). Patients perception of

A Career In Astronomy
A young boy is walking through the mall and sees an advertisement that The Hunger Games is coming
out soon in theaters. He has always wanted to see it, and begs his mom for money. This is the kind of
excitement that a film editor can bring to the films they make. The final changes in the movie can
make or break how well the movie connects to the audience. Becoming a film and video editor is a
better career choice for me than an astronomer because of education, job environment, and skills. Film
editors must be very tech savvy, for the majority of film editing is accomplished digitally on
computers ( How ). However, they do not have to be able to perform complicated tasks such as
programming and writing code. Instead, they have an interface ... Show more content on

To be a film editor one needs to have a high school diploma or a GED, and then pursue a four year
college or university to study broadcasting and film ( How ). There are many schools with reputable
film departments where future film editors learn about the whole spectrum of filmmaking, pre
production and planning, scriptwriting, cinematography, lighting, set design... ( How ). It is important
to test and explore the required skills before committing to a new career. A solid high school education
can introduce career options based on innate interests. Astronomy requires a higher level academic
rigour that is meant to weed out the selective few that will become future astronomers. It is important
to pursue a rigorous math and science curriculum in school, as they are the main subjects used in
astronomy ( Careers in Astronomy, American). Astronomy majors require more advanced degrees,
which differs from the career of film editing. Astronomers must have a PhD to work in observatories,
according to Daniel Devost it is, 3 to 6 years of graduate college studies (qtd. in Cullen). This could
accumulate to 10 years of post high school education, which is undesirable because the expenses
would be high, with minimal income. Obtaining a college degree after four to five years is a preferable
pathway for me because I am more interested in a hands on experience. A

1971, Marco Rubio is the son of Cuban immigrants. After earning a bachelor s degree from the
University of Florida in 1993 he went to the University of Miami for his law degree. Rubio s political
career began with his election to the West Miami City Commission in 1998. He was elected in the
Florida House of Representatives the following year. In 2009, Rubio won his campaign for the U.S.
Senate.
He is also a rising star in the Republican Party, Marco Rubio scored an impressive victory when he
scored a seat in the U.S. Senate in 2009. He is one of four children born to Cuban immigrants. Both of

Impact Of The Atomic Bombs On Nagasaki And Hiroshima
The impact of the atomic bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima were the most destructive singular air
strikes against Japan. However, fire raids conducted by Major General Curtis E. Lemay were a
significant factor in the air campaign against Japan. They also inflicted more casualties to the Japanese
populous and damage to Japanese infrastructure than the atomic bombs (Hanson 60). The decision and
execution of these attacks by General Lemay contributed to the overall success of the pacific
campaign. The changes that General Lemay made to the XXI Bomber Command created more
victories for the Americans with a lower casualty rate. These victories can also be attributed to the
success of air power at the tactical, operational, and strategic levels of war. Prior to General Lemay s
control of the XXI Bomber Command, Brigadier General Haywood S. Hansell Jr. was conducting
high altitude bombing campaigns on Japanese infrastructure. The bombing command had a solid
foundation with its safe base infrastructure, tactics, and organization of command. B 29s stationed at
bases in Guam, Tinian, Saipan and Iwo Jima were being more well constructed leading to less
problems during air raids. With better aircraft, missions could have fewer issues occurring leading to
higher success rates. The major setback that aircrafts were having was the weather. Because the
bombers were at such high altitudes during their attacks it led to overheating of engines and other
mission essential issues. Thunderstorms

A Separation of Church and State Ensures our Individual...
Religion has no place in politics, therefore, church and state must remain separate if we are to preserve
our individual freedoms. The United States of America is a land of great diversity and a nation built on
equality. In order to explore religion and politics in America, we must first begin with our country s
roots in 17th century Europe. At the time there was heavy conflict, over religion, involving the
Catholics and the Protestants of England. They were two different religions, but they shared a
common belief. Both shared the principle that there should be one religion, everyone should be forced
to follow it, and that government should enforce it. Therein lay the problem, how can there be only
one religion when there are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some states even had official state supported churches. All was still not equal when it came to
religion. So how then were we any different than England? We were no different, pure and simple.
The right to to worship as you choose was lacking, and the religious persecution had followed our
citizens across the pond .
Religion was such a hot button that a person could be executed for following the wrong one,
depending on your geographical location in the colonies. Violence was not in short supply, as religious
differences led to much bloodshed. Definitely not the sunshine lollipops and rainbows version of our
nation s history, as it is painted for us in primary school. In New York City, on July 12, 1871, violence
erupted between Catholics and Protestants. It lead to the death of 62 colonists, and another 100 were
injured. Theses riots, the Orange Riots, were a prime example of how little progress we had made
toward religious freedom in the colonies. What subject could lead to such violence? Why it was all
about the Bible in Public Schools, of course. Colonists were discriminated against, tortured and
executed all under the umbrella of religious differences. Aside from the violence, religion elicited in
colonial times, civil rights were also not what they are today. Laws were passed over the next several
decades, to prevent Catholics from owning anything, worshiping, and educating their young. We were
an intolerant group, it would seem,

Essay on Generalized Anxiety Disorder
Generalized Anxiety Disorder
Generalized anxiety disorder(GAD) is much more than the normal anxiety people experience
everyday. It is a chronic condition that is chracterized by excessive worry and anxiety, even though
there aren t any reasonable explanations for the cause. It is diagnosed when a person spends a least 6
months worrying excessively about numerous everyday problems. People who suffer from GAD
always anticipate the worst. They frequently worry about family, money, work or their health. Just
getting through each day provokes anxiety. Individuals with GAD are usually referred to as Worry

They frequently suffer from insomnia and chronic fatigue. Concentration is difficult because they are
easily startled and agitated. They remain in a constant state of arousal. People afflicted with GAD don
t necessarily avoid particular situations because of their disorder. They are unlike individuals who
suffer from more severe types of anxiety disorders such as panic disorder and severe phobias. If the
impairment from GAD is mild, they are usually able to work and function in most social events. When
the impairment is more severe, it can be debilitating making it almost unbearable to perform simple
daily activities.
Approximately 4 million Americans suffer from GAD, about 2.8% of the U.S. adult population
between the ages of 18 54. GAD usually strikes in childhood or adolescence, but can begin in
adulthood.(2) It affects women more often than men. The reason that females have higher rates than
males for most anxiety disorders has not been clearly identified. Research suggests that the role of
gonadal steroids in women may be a contributing factor for their higher rate of anxiety disorders.
Women also experience a wider range of stressful life events as compared to men, who react to a more
limited range of stressful life events. Other researchers think GAD may be transferred through genes.

When fabricated in accordance with military specifications, it should be able to withstand thermal
processing, or retort processing, and a wide temperature range sufficient enough to prevent package
damage during transportation and storage. Food packaged in a conventional can must be cooked
approximately twice as long as food contained in a retort pouch, as well. To sterilize the food
contained in either form of packaging, it must be brought up to approximately 245° F and kept there
for a specified period of time. Retort packages have a thin profile and a high ratio of surface area to
volume. Heat penetrates the food much more quickly when it only has to reach the inside of an
approximately half inch thick mass, rather than a much larger mass in a round can.
Coloring is also applied to either the exterior or interior surface of the polyester layer. While the pouch
is considered a quot;tough quot; package, it is not indestructible. The strength of the pouch and its
resistance to damage comes from its tri laminar structure. Strength of the pouch has always been an
issue for the Military, and it s difficult for some to understand that plastic can be as strong as steel, as
metal cans are usually associated with strength.
Each of the three laminas has its own individual qualities that contribute to the success

Student Athletes Have A Very Busy Schedule

Time to Work
Division 1 student athletes have a very busy schedule. To be a Division 1 student athlete you must
have great time management skills, determination, and be focused. For them to be successful in the
classroom and in their sport, they have a very tough decision. They must pick two of the three: social
life, academics, or athletics. They must also realize that they need to make the decision before they
make a mistake for instance, becoming ineligible. Student athletes have many options for help, just as
a average college student does. Student athletes need to have more readily available resources but also
use their time wisely through counseling as freshman.
The Problem
Some people who have never participated in extracurricular activities may ask, What is so different
between a student athlete s day compared to an average college student s. According to Richard
Sherman, a former Stanford University student athlete and now professional football player, student
athletes have mandatory lifting in the morning, meetings, and practices throughout the day during the
season (Richard Sherman Student Athlete Education 00:01:14 00:01:26). An average college student
doesn t have this time commitment. They may be involved in many organizations but the
organizations don t meet every day, which is a big difference between the two schedules. A study done

As Richards was still a novice, and since the workshop really needed another mechanic, Richards
agreed and Turner was hired.
In the beginning, Robbins has told Turner about the way in which things were done around the place.
Turner seemed very understanding and accommodating. He seemed quite happy and enthusiastic
about his newly found job. This was despite the tact that he was the second lowest paid worker there.
The pay was calculated by computer, based on both seniority and skill. Turner, of course, lost out on
seniority, but he appeared not to mind this. Robbins thought that it was probably because he felt lucky
to even have a job.
The workshop opens at 8 am daily and the mechanics are assigned jobs by Robins. At 10:00 am there
is an unofficial coffee break where the entire crew would go across the street for a cup of coffee. This
is looked upon as a social gathering, where the men would get to know each other better. Being an
unofficial coffee break, it is agreed that anyone who does not complete his first job by 10:00 am has to
forego his coffee break for the day.
Now, Turner seemed to constantly miss his coffee breaks. Although skilful, he was not as fast as
either, Johnson, Kelly or Robbins. During his first three weeks there, he only managed to attend one
coffee break.
By the end of the fourth week, trouble was brewing. Turner had become quite alienated and
dissatisfied with his job. He tried to hurry through his work so that he could make

Breakthrough Perspective on Green and Sustainable...
Buildings have been part of human life since the beginning of time, we depend of them to live, learn,
grown, for protection and shelter. The decisions we make today will not only affect our future but our
surrounding as well. We need buildings to survive the climates of the earth and to live our own lives.
Architecture is what nature cannot make, yet it is influenced by the rules of nature, as humans evolved
so did our way of thinking, and so did our architecture. Green architecture is a breakthrough in human
history, Green Architecture is more a more advanced way of building, it has if the building as a life.

The LEED criteria are recognized as the building having a positive performance in five areas of
human and environmental health, therefore making the building safer and healthier to live in. When
we think sustainability, it s important that we consider the surrounding, for examples the trees, rivers
and lakes, streets, neighbors and more. The impact of architecture is not only for the building but for
its natural surroundings, by taking advantage of each natural source, to have the building sustain itself
in terms of reducing energy use, taking advantage of storm water and using that for flushing toilets,
using sun light to warm the room and so forth. Sustainability also refers to the life of the building
itself, how long will the building last after it s finished. Green buildings are made of recyclable
material that help the building last longer in structure, its feature is what make it unique to last longer
than average buildings.
Benefits of Green Buildings
Green Buildings have become more than just buildings; they have become a structural living
organism. Green Buildings offer a safer and healthier living environment for the occupants; this can
contribute to an increase in human lifespan, due to minimum exposure to chemical paint materials and
more. They also reduce energy bills due to the features incorporated such as solar panels, which
generate energy by solar radiation. An open glazing design building that offers maximum sunlight into

This paper reviews recent studies on the long lasting effect pregnancy loss has on it s families.
Research has shown that families have increased risks of developing mental health disorders and
strains on previous relationships. As research continues to develop we see that pregnancy and infant
loss is taking a social economically toll on the families surviving this tragedy.
Losing More Than Babies
There has been a surge of new organizations tackling the topic of pregnancy and infant loss across the

including flashbacks, intrusive thoughts, dissociation and hyperarousal can later develop. Clinical
depression and anxiety are also associated with pregnancy and infant loss, with doctors often

Essay about A Career as a Pediatrician
Many people in this world want to make a difference in life. However, most people do not want to put
in all the effort that it takes to do so. The job of a pediatrician is life changing to many. Unfortunately,
it takes drive and effort that many people do not have, to become a pediatrician. A pediatrician s job is
a highly skilled and interesting job because he or she has the privilege to deal with and help as many
children as possible. What is a pediatrician? Pediatricians are doctors who specialize and focus in
caring for babies to young adults (Career Cruising). They deal with childhood diseases and the care of
infants with health and sickness (Elberts). The typical upper age limit of patients is from age twelve to

Most pediatricians start in the morning around 9:00 A.M. However, they have to come in a little
earlier to get ready for the day (Holycross). A current pediatrician, Julie Holycross, stated that she
prints out lists and growth charts, downloads labs, and also does assessments to make sure her patients
meet their milestone. Where does the word Pediatrician come from? The Greek words pais and iatros
mean child and doctor of healer. Pediatrics is a cognate that means healer of children (NetMed
Pediatrics). In June of 1802, the first accepted pediatric hospital was the Hospital des Enfants
Malades, located in Paris of the Western World. In English the hospital would be called, Hospital For
Sick Children (NetMED Pediatrics). Twenty eight years later, Berlin opened a Pediatric Pavilion in
1830. Many other European counties followed soon after (NetMED Pediatrics). Pediatrics did not
become a medical specialty in the United States until before the Civil War (Elberts). The English
speaking world waited until 1852 for its first pediatric hospital, the Hospital for Sick Children.
(NetMED Pediatrics). The next pediatrician institution in the United States was the Children s
Hospital of Philadelphia in 1855 (NetMED Pediatrics). In the year of 1880, a pediatric section was
finally organized by the American Medical Association. Because of that, it made the medical
profession understand that children are not just small adults (Elberts).

The Nature of Ghosts in The Woman Warrior Essay
The Nature of Ghosts in The Woman Warrior
Ghost. What images does this word conjure up in the average American mind? Perhaps you think of
little kids draped in white sheets begging for candy on Halloween. Perhaps you imagine transparent
versions of dead people wandering the earth for eternity. Perhaps you are reminded of a person who
just saw something especially scary; they are pale as a ghost .
So the word ghost a word with many meanings calls forth these images. What do they have in

Ghosts in any form are far more prominent in Kingston s life than in ours. Perhaps this is because
there are fantastic elements to the stories she tells, but it is difficult for we readers to separate fantasy
and reality and we confuse the two. In some cases such as with Brave Orchid s Sitting Ghost , it never
really becomes clear.
The primary meaning of the word ghost in the work is, of course, American or white person . White
person might seem more attractive because of the idea of paleness that we associate with ghosts, but
there are Mexican ghosts and Negro ghosts so American is more accurate. This is supported by the
idea that those Chinese born in America are considered ghosts: They would not tell us children
because we had been born among ghosts, were taught by ghosts, and were ourselves ghost like. They
called us a kind of ghost. Ghosts are noisy and full of air; they talk during meals. They talk about
everything (183 84). Even one generation makes this difference. The mysterious Chinese name given
to the assimilated Chinese by the new immigrants is Ho Chi Kuei (204), which Kingston is unable to
translate in full (further demonstrating her assimilation) but Kuei she knows means Ghosts . This idea
of Americans as ghosts goes even further in some of Kingston s titles for Americans,

to the racist content within. Many disagree with Mark Twain s use of derogatory terms and phrases
such as the word Nigger in his book. IT seems unlikely that anyone, of any color, who had actually
read Huckleberry Fin...could accuse of it being racist (Kaplan 20). Huckleberry Fin uses necessary
racism in order to show the culture and attributes of the time period as well as to portray Twains
message of promoting equality and that they are not morally better if they are one race over another.
What is now seen as racism was simply the culture and attributes during the time setting of the novel
(Toltzman 1). Huck Fin was written when cruel and unjust treatments of blacks were common and use
of derogatory words didn t get much attention. Huck Finn is during a time when blacks were not
treated or thought as people but as objects without personalities or emotions. For instance, Jim is
initially only knows to whose property he is. He was considered Miss Watson property that was about
to be sold, which resulted in him running away. The racist attitudes of the South are were most
obvious in the character of Huck Finn himself, and how he relates to the runaway slave, Jim. He plays
tricks on Jim and uses dialogue that makes him appear foolish or perhaps to make Jim painfully aware
of his own belittlement. During their entire journey Huck and Jim become closer. They achieved a

Essay on Analysing the Cash Flow that a Business Might...
Analysing the cash flow problems that a business might experience
Cash flow problems can be caused by a variety of factors these problems can destabilize the amount of
income which will prevent the payment of liabilities that make a business function.
The main causes of cash flow problems are:
Low profits or (worse) losses
Over investment in capacity
Too much stock
Allowing customers too much credit
Overtrading
Unexpected changes
Seasonal demand
Each point will be assessed in this document.
Low profits or (worse) losses
Profit and losses are the main points to be considered in a business because a business is run by the
amount of profits they receive. If there is a dent in profit then the business is not functioning ... Show

The business will have to choose other means to pay off their stock providers which will put the
business in debt. Having stocks that can t be liquidity will be problematic because the demand is not
of that nature. This will show a negative on the cash forecast as they will not be making profits.
Everything must be accounted to their demands to make sure their stocks will sell which will overall
be a disadvantage. Having stocks that are on your hands for a long period of time can make the
products obsolete and out of range which will then have to sell cheaper to other business. Having too
many stocks can be caused by buying in bulks because it makes the products cheaper but escalates the
risk of not selling the products.
Allowing customers too much credit
Allowing your customers to have too much credit can be an issue but also can be good. It can be an
issue to allow your customers to have over exaggerated credit because this allows customers to buy
products without paying for it on the date of purchase but to leave it for a future specified date. This
can be problematic because these can be calculated in the cash flow forecast without having the cash
at hand but only predicting on the date that has been set for payment. Some trade debtors may not
choose to pay for their purchase at all. This will be problematic as you are

Symptoms And Treatment Of Skin
When asked about their major illnesses, the client stated to have hypertension, severe dyspnea, and
edema. The client also stated that she suffered from a heart attack in the past, which was due to high
blood pressure. Many of the client s problems branched off from the heart attack and hypertension.
For example, a heart attack and high blood pressure can cause heart failure, heart failure can cause
pulmonary edema, and pulmonary edema can lead to swelling of the lower extremities and dyspnea
(Grossman Porth, 2014). However, the most recent hospitalization for the client was due to severe
edema, and trouble breathing. Severe edema is one of the major causes for impaired skin integrity.
Skin integrity is defined as the state in which an individual s skin is at risk of being adversely altered
(kloop, Storey, Bronstein, 2012). There are three major factors that can relate to client s skin
alteration: decreased tissue perfusion, prolonged bed rest, and pulmonary edema.
One factor that can cause impaired skin integrity is decreased tissue perfusion. Decreased tissue
perfusion refers to decrease in oxygen resulting in failure to nourish tissues at the capillary level
(Wilson, 2012). Reduced tissue perfusion causes the body to become distressed because it is not
receiving enough oxygen. This causes the blood to shunt to the core of the body where the vital organs
are located, such as the heart and the brain (Grossman Porth, 2014). Since the client suffered from

The Life Of James Baldwin s Struggle For Sexual Performance
James Baldwin survived as not an unusual figure; he existed as a black man in the mid twentieth
century disgruntled with the way America treated him. As much as he protested through his literary
works and often times through recorded interviews, Baldwin frequently made the clear statement he is
not the victim. In fact, he would go as far to say white people are the victims, although what they were
victims of remained not as straight forward. The two main topics Baldwin favored writing on were
race and sex. In the short story, Going to Meet the Man, the main character, Jesse, is dissatisfied with
his sexual performance, or lack thereof, and is intrigued by the sexuality of black people. Did James
Baldwin justify himself as the superior being and the white person as the victim in his own assumption
which argued white people long to have the sexual capabilities of black people? Through his short
story, Baldwin infers white people are inferior sexual performers; they are intrigued by the sexual
capabilities of black people, and comforts himself by exposing an example of white lack of
superiority.
In the opening of Going to Meet the Man, Baldwin constructs his presentation displaying the limited
sexual abilities of the white man. The fictional character Jesse, portraying white males in general,
cries, it s not my fault! He tried again; he wretchedly failed again. Then he just lay there, silent, angry,
helpless (Baldwin 229). Baldwin strategically places these select words at

I have decided to write this letter to you to help with the decision of buying the Louisiana Territory. I
have very high views on the great piece of land. I hope that after reading this letter that you will
decide to buy this land. First, look at the grand size of our nation if we were to purchase this territory.
It would nearly double adding an amazing amount of land for people who would want to expand their
families and settle in the West. Therefore it would be less crowded near the original states, and plenty
of room for the Native Americans who have lived there before us and know this land better than we
do. With all the new land there will be an ample amount of resources to collect. With all of this land

Analysis Of The Lynching Of Emmett Till
The documentary, narrative The Lynching of Emmett Till by Christopher Metress, tells Emmett s story
of death through various points of view. On August 24, 1955, Emmett Till, a fourteen year old African
American boy from Chicago, entered a rural grocery store of Money, Mississippi. Because the young
child had been gloating about his bond with white people up north, his southern cousins had dared him
to go into the store and say something to the women working the register. Emmett accepted their
challenge; seconds later he was at the counter, set on purchasing two items. What he did or said next

In particular, when the author describes the murder of Emmett that is enough visualization to send
chills down the reader s spine. Also, the tone of the author throughout the novel is solemn and gloomy.
Lastly, not only is the novel informant: it s also educational at the same time.
In conclusion, Emmett Till was a young boy who was born in a time that was rough for African
Americans. Also, Christopher Metress is a published author and college professor whose ideas are

Everyone has the right to have happiness in life and should not be oppressed by discrimination.
In the year 1955, white men in the Mississippi Delta lynched a fourteen year old from Chicago named

The Theme Of Murder In Macbeth
Shakespearean Murder Blood, death, and violence; these are just a few words that go along with a way
of death known as murder. It s one of the more common ways of dying and is frequently seen on the
news and social media. As such, people always seems to take an interest in this topic. There s a
mysterious attraction to the subject of murder, whether in a mystery book, on television shows, or
simply mentioned in a news article. What makes a death murder, though? Murder, as defined by
Oxford Dictionaries, is the unlawful premeditated killing of one human being by another. Many
simply define it as taking someone else s life. In Macbeth, William Shakespeare illustrates the many
forms of murder and establishes how it is wrong. One of the more interesting parts of this way of
death is the motive, or reason, people choose to murder one another. The actual interest itself lies in
the main four reasons for murder; to gain power, exact revenge, dispose of any opposition or
witnesses, and sometimes for sheer pleasure. In Macbeth, Shakespeare clearly illustrates ... Show

poisoning, drowning, suffocation, and assisted suicide. These are typically used by real life people
though commonly used by rapist, serial killers, murders, and the mentally insane. Although you can

Political Pipeline Research Paper
Political Pipeline
Americans have demanded rights from the government for 200 years and also demanded that they are
not infringed upon. This is a reasonable claim, but when it comes to Native Americans, they are not
given their due. The biggest insult to their rights is that of the environmentally dangerous, falsely
advertised, and political money making Keystone XL Pipeline. This political pipeline project should
be abandoned due to the obvious environmental hazards, its political motivation, and the infringement
of the Native American rights.

This is an intentional insult, one they should not get away with. With an already unstable relationship,
why would these polluters think it would be wise to antagonize them. This project already had many
issues following it, but so strong is their opposition that members have maintained a spirit camp on

The Apology Of Socrates Analysis
According to Dr. Dave Yount, many Athenians still regret their decision to put Socrates to death to this
day. Is this feeling of regret acceptable? This paper will explore the details surrounding the trial of
Socrates and whether or not he was treated fairly throughout the sentencing process. In The Apology
of Socrates, Plato describes the charges against Socrates as not believing in the gods recognized by the
state, introducing supernatural beings, and corrupting the youth (246. 9 12). By considering Socrates
impiety, internal betrayal of the city, and arrogance and hypocritical words, it should be understood
that the Athenians were just in their verdict and punishment of Socrates.
It is argued that the charges brought against Socrates

It is through the earliest interaction between an infant and the caregiver that an individual s affect
regulation begins to be generated. The mutual affect regulation displayed by the caregiver and the
infant allows the infant to learn and internalize how to regulate intense emotions. An infant s brain
structure and function becomes implicitly embedded with the modes of early affect regulation through
the neuronal structures that allows the individual to have appropriate modes of relating throughout life
(Applegate Shapiro, 2005). The goal of affect regulation is to increase the positive affects and
decrease the negative affects.
A mechanism in the brain that has contributed to the creation of Javier s behaviors would be the limbic
system. The limbic system is considered to be the center of emotion (Applegate Shapiro, 2005). The
three key regions of this system are the orbitofrontal cortex, the anterior cingulate, and the amygdala.
The amygdala is a part of the brain that is considered to be important to affect regulation. The
amygdala is utilized to identify, understand, and interpret emotions. It plays a role in the automatic,
rapid, and early detection of affect (LeDoux, 2000). It is considered to be important in regulating
emotion and guiding emotion related behaviors.
Javier appears to have struggled with developing appropriate affect regulation due to the

The Social Problem Of Crime
This information analysis focuses on the social problem computer crime, but more specifically
identity theft. In this paper, I analyzed six different articles from various sources. I chose cyber crime
as my topic because I have an interest in computers and coding. I also like to watch documentaries and
a television show on cybercrime scene investigations. Analyzing articles on this topic will help me
develop further knowledge on this topic and how it is considered a social problem in our society.
Computer crime refers to any violation of the law in which a computer is the target or means of
criminal activity (Mooney, Knox, Schacht, 2014, p.113). Computer crime is also known as
cybercrime. Cybercrime continues to have far reaching effects because it affects individuals,
companies, and organizations and is increasingly a problem in the globalized world we live in. This is
because we rely so much on cell phones, computers, and us many social network sites. Cybercrime is
considered a social problem because it negatively affects a large group of people in our society. In
2014, there were 1.5 million cyber attacks worldwide ( IBM Cyber Security Intelligence Index, 2015,
pg.13). One type of computer crime is identity theft. Identity theft is the use of someone else s
personal information to obtain credit or other economic rewards (Mooney, et al, 2014, pg.113).
Identity theft first became a crime in 1998, when Congress passed the Identity Theft and Assumption

a) There are many ways to communicate effectively with your group, and there can be many reasons
why some groups communicate poorly. Valentine Belonwu states, many points on group dynamics and
effective group communication, (Belonwu, 2013).
Some important points that Belonwu makes are:
One on one, people understand better when talked to directly or face to face. Maintaining eye contact
will ensure the message has been understood and that way effective communication is accomplished.
Listen to you team members, communications is a two way path, make sure to not just keep talking

This will mean next time they will be more likely to engage in the conversation.

One reason for it being effective was just like how Belonwu states is that we created a very receptive
atmosphere, this means that we didn t have a tense environment whenever we had meetings, therefore
we felt more confident discussing the topics.
Another instance is we made sure to reduce our perceptions and to be empathetic towards how others
see a situation. This made communication really effective as we moved passed trying explain things
we didn t need to and had more time to discuss the important issues and go straight to the point.
As a team, we didn t really face unsuccessful communication, this was due to us just listening to each
other during our meetings, and we listened politely and made sure we weren t being ignored. This not
only helped us have effective communication as a team, but also got closer as a team.
While having meetings as a group we displayed confidence and seriousness, when talking about our
topics this told each of us that we were not talking nonsense. This greatly helped us understand better

Mortgage Loans For Those With Bad Credit
Mortgage Loans for Those with Bad Credit
Unfortunately, the fear of being denied has caused some potential homebuyers to not even bother
going through the mortgage application process. The truth is that the vast majority of home lenders
have some strict approval criteria, especially after the financial collapse that took place in the middle
of the last decade. However, there are programs that are available to aspiring homebuyers with less
than stellar credit. Most of these programs still require validation of income, and in many cases, an
explanation of the cause for the low credit score, but they do provide a viable alternative to traditional
mortgages.
Understanding the Process
It is always wise for anyone looking to obtain a loan for the sake of purchasing a home to develop a
lucid perspicacity of the application process. When a person understands the process, they are less
likely to become overwhelmed or intimidated by anything that occurs during the process. A person s
credit score will play a significant role in determining whether they are approved for a mortgage loan
as well as determining the interest rate of the loan.
Although the credit score plays an integral role in the loan process, it is not the only criteria on which
approval is based, meaning that a person or couple with bad credit can still qualify for home lending
with certain lenders.
There may be some unique specifications and requirements to meet; however, the opportunity to

metal workers, craftspeople, painters, woodcarvers, and literally thousands of unskilled laborers

The Empire State Building In The New York City
New York City is full of city landmarks and key pieces to any vacation. It holds some of the world s
most treasured wonders. This city has been through many hard times such as The Great Depression
and World War II, and it has been through good ones too. But none as memorable as The Empire State
Building. The Empire State Building is an important building with interesting facts that are wonderful
to learn.
The Empire State Building was built in a race. In the late 1920 s, builders wanted to construct the
tallest building. The main competition was between the Empire State Building and the Chrysler
Building. After many changes the Empire State Building finally won the title of the tallest building in
the world. This record would stand for 40 years. Its structure is modeled after two buildings which are
the Reynold s Building in North Carolina and Carew Tower in Cincinnati. The Empire State Building
s name came from a nickname for New York, the Empire State. The tower at the top, initially it was
supposed to be designed as a mooring mast for airships. Unfortunately, high winds made this
extremely difficult. This plan is now deserted due to the closest thing to a landing was in September
1931, when an airship tethered itself to the spire for a little while.
It took approximately 20 months, a record time, with using 3,400 men per day to fully construct the

only damage the nurse s credibility and relationship with the patient, but also affects the overall
quality of care given. Additionally, nurses and other healthcare professionals may face disciplinary
action, drastic consequences, and/or legal charges once held accountable. I have decided to pick
scenario #3 as my scenario ending. It describes how I went on Facebook during my day off and talked
about the night when I had to work and did not really feel as bad because I personally met the lead
singer Jerod from the concert that I had missed. After taking his photograph, I carelessly posted his
picture on Facebook and Instagram thinking that no one would recognize him in the first place. Not
realizing the consequences of my actions, I would find, in retrospect, that I was sightless of the
possible harm that I m about to inflict on my patient. The dangers of using Facebook and/or other

Low Voter Turnout Essay
As the decline in voter turnout affects Canada and most western democracies, there is an increasing
urgency to find a solution to this trend. This paper will evaluate whether civic education is indeed a
solution to the trend, in hopes of re engaging citizens. I would argue that civic education is a crucial
measure to be taken in order to inform and mobilize voters. It is said, without question, that a
politically savvy population is more inclined to engage in political participation. However, believing
that civic education alone is the silver bullet solution to declining voter turnout is overly optimistic.
Why is low voter turnout a concern? Simply put, non participatory citizens are disengaged from an
important aspect of political life. One s decision to to participate can be linked to several issues. The
concern facing the pattern of disengagement is that it lowers our collective ... Show more content on

However, the reality one faces when observing the outcome of such an initiative proves that it is not
so cut and dry. Civic education in Canada has been met with a number of challenges. One primary
issue is the lack of parity. As stated in Canada s Constitution Act of 1867, there is no federal
department of education and no integrated national system of education. Therefore, in each province,
the legislature makes education laws exclusively. They are therefore responsible for the organization,
delivery and assessment of education at the elementary, secondary and even postsecondary level.
Moreover, it is difficult to immediately assess the impact of civic education on voter turnout. This is
mainly because the majority of students who take civic education are not yet of voting age. Therefore,
the benefits of civic education can only be evaluated objectively at a later

The Birthmark By Nathaniel Hawthorne
Rawan Jabr
Professor Stafford
English 102
November 9th 2014
Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Birthmark
The Birthmark is a short story authored by Nathaniel Hawthorne and published in 1848. The story is
about Aylmer, a brilliant scientist who is obsessed with science and is planning to use his experiments
to remove a birthmark on the face of his wife Georgiana. Aylmer s love for science made him yearn to
obtain control of the entire divinity. His wife was among his victims of science that was stronger in
him than the love he had for Georgiana. Aylmer became blind to science to the extent that he could not
realize that he was damaging his wife and putting his marriage at risk. It examines the obsession with
science and human perfection that often cause problems if not controlled as seen in the story.
Hawthorne s aim with this tale was to warn its readers regarding the dangers of science and
knowledge with the story, and this is analyzed below.
Ronald Davis, Barbara Eckstein, Liz Rosenberg, Jerry A. Herndon, and Jeffrey Howard, are among
the authors who have analyzed Nathaniel s work The Birthmark. In an article titled Science and
Technology in the Birthmark, Ronald agreed by the fact that The Birthmark is a story with several
warnings. He identifies the main catalysts in the story as unnatural obsession with technology and
science by Aylmer, who is the main character. Ronald stated that in Nathaniel Hawthorne s, The
Birthmark , there is an unnatural obsession with science

The Relationship Between Weather And Motor Vehicle Accidents
Within this research proposal, I will be discussing my hypothesis that will determine the question I
have for my final research study. This research study will gather information from archival data and
will not have any contact with any participants. This proposal will discuss the types of archival data
being collected, the variables that will be measured, the foreseen limits of this research study, and the
procedure to intact the ethical principles of the population. I hypothesize that the number of motor
vehicle accidents declared in North America will be higher with rain, fog, and snow weather
conditions. For this research proposal I will be looking at completed studies and research to determine
if there is a relationship between weather and motor vehicle accidents. I will also look at statistics,
specifically Statistics Canada, data collection on vehicles driven and weather conditions specific to
areas in North America. One variable that are being measured is the type of weather conditions, such
as rain, snow, or fog. Another variable that is being measure is the amount and type of motor vehicle.
These variables will be researched specific to North America areas. Many of the studies I am looking
at are accessible through universities library and Google scholar. Although for some of the studies, I
need to have access to a student number for the universities resources or pay for the material, it is still
accessible publicly. I can be confident that the

The Value Of Loyalty In The Odyssey By Homer
Loyalty is one of the important factors that influences people because loyalty provides stability for any
long lasting relationship. In The Odyssey, an epic poem by Homer, Penelope shows us the value of
loyalty because she is hopeful that her husband will come back, and she does not want to marry
anyone who is not him. Penelope is a good example of loyalty in The Odyssey because she proves her
loyalty several times. When Odysseus is gone suitors began to throw themselves at her, and they
would do anything to get to marry her. Since she was a queen, Penelope would have been expected to
marry after her spouce died but she stayed true to her husband, Odysseus, by coming up with excuses
not to marry the suitors until she knew for sure that he was dead. To avoid choosing a suitor to marry
she said that she would chose a husband as soon as she finished weaving a shroud for her father in
law, Laertes, even though he was not sick or ready to die yet. Everyday she would show them the
progress that she had made weaving the shroud, but every night before she went to bed she would
unweave all of her work and start over the next day so that the shroud would never be finished.
Her very words,/ and despite our pride and passion we believed her./ So by day she d weave at her
great and growing web / by night, by the light of the torches set beside her,/ she would unravel all she
d done. Three whole years/ she deceived us blind, seduced us with this scheme.../ we caught her in the
act... she

Why Is King Arthur Alive
Is king Arthur dead or resting? The title of this book is King Arthur And His Knights Of The Round
Table written by Roger Lancelyn Green. King Arthur is alive because once King Arthur died and fell
asleep a shepherd came and rung a bell and woke him up and fell back asleep. Another reason why
King Arthur is still Alive is because he promised that he will come back to make britain great again.
Also He said that he shall come back from a long rest. That is why King Arthur is still alive.
King Arthur is alive because He said ... And then the King said: you say well; I will sleep once more...
(p.329 330). This demonstrates that King Arthur is not dead because once he died and was sent in a
cave to sleep. Then a Shepherd was sent by Merlin to take gold from the King. When the shepherd
arrived he hit a bell and woke the King. A long conversation between the king and the shepherd went
on for a long time and finally the King went back to sleep. King Arthur is alive because when the
shepherd woke the King and the shepherd answered saying ...Trembling in terror, cried, he hardly
knew why: No,no!therefore sleep on! (p.329). This demonstrate that King Arthur Was not dead
because dead people would not wake up from a loud bell that was rung. ... Show more content on

I will sleep once more until the day comes when I shall rise and bring victory to the people of Britain
(p.p.329 330). This means that once the worst has come to britain the King and his Knights will wake
up from his long sleep and make britain great again. Another reason why King Arthur is still alive is
because he said ...For if my knights awake before it is time they will slay you and then there will be
none to speak of the words of which you have spoken... (P.330). This means That King Arthur wanted
the shepherd to live so that everyone would know that he is asleep and ready to come when the worst

Building A Real Estate Market
There are few certainties in life, but two of them are that they aren t making any more land and people
will always need a place to live. Combining these two certainties with historic low interest rates and
home values that have been appreciating in many parts of the country make investing in real estate an
attractive alternative to traditional investments. Good credit and a little cash or leverage are all that is
needed to become a real estate investor. Some investors look for short term gains in real estate by
flipping rundown houses. Cash is needed in order to make the renovations to rehab the house. Getting
a mortgage for houses that are not a primary residence can be difficult and potential investors could be
competing against cash ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the last decade, more investors have been jumping on the classic car bandwagon, buying
antiques and otherwise prized automobiles. The demand has helped push the value of classic cars up
nearly 500 percent in the decade ending in 2015, according to the Knight Franklin Luxury Investment
index. Twenty five cars have been sold for over $10 million. Eight of those happened in 2015,
including records for Jaguar ($13.2 million), Porsche ($10.1 million), and McLaren ($13.75 million).
Incidentally, the record for a classic car is from 2014 when a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO Berlinetta fetched
$38 million at auction. Why have classic cars experienced such growth in popularity as an investment?
The Internet makes it easy to determine a cars value and has allowed more people to become savvy
investors. Investing in classic cars is similar to many other types of alternative investments like art,
wine, and collectibles in that investing is a passion. An investor does not need millions of dollars to
invest in classic cars. Spending under $20,000 is completely acceptable. Regardless of your level of
investment there are a few rules to remember when investing in classic cars: Find the best example of
the vehicle possible for your investment level Rarity drives value in classic cars so research how many
of a particular make and model exist Buy a car that you are passionate about so if the investment does
not appreciate at least you have a vehicle you

Saya In The Twister Resisters By Elizabeth Campbell
A character named Saya who is part of an organization called W.A.V.E. has to defeat all the enemies
that come their way in the Twister Resisters by Elizabeth Campbell. In the beginning of the story,
Saya believes that she doesn t need help when defeating enemies. She has the superpower to run fast,
so on page 11 it reads, Kai said, Saya, wait! But I wasn t about to slow down for a chunk of granite
(Campbell 11). This shows that Saya wants to show that she could defeat the enemy without the help
of the other members. Kai had tried to stop Saya, but she wouldn t want to listen to him. Looking at
this evidence, one can say the Saya is the type of person who wants to be independent and wants to be
a bit of a show off to the other members.

  • 3. A Career In Astronomy A young boy is walking through the mall and sees an advertisement that The Hunger Games is coming out soon in theaters. He has always wanted to see it, and begs his mom for money. This is the kind of excitement that a film editor can bring to the films they make. The final changes in the movie can make or break how well the movie connects to the audience. Becoming a film and video editor is a better career choice for me than an astronomer because of education, job environment, and skills. Astronomy requires a higher level academic rigour that is meant to weed out the selective few that will become future astronomers. It is important to pursue a rigorous math and science curriculum in school, as they are the main subjects used in astronomy ( Careers in Astronomy, American). Astronomy majors require more advanced degrees, which differs from the career of film editing. Astronomers must have a PhD to work in observatories, according to Daniel Devost it is, 3 to 6 years of graduate college studies (qtd. in Cullen). • 9. Impact Of The Atomic Bombs On Nagasaki And Hiroshima The impact of the atomic bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima were the most destructive singular air strikes against Japan. However, fire raids conducted by Major General Curtis E. Lemay were a significant factor in the air campaign against Japan. They also inflicted more casualties to the Japanese populous and damage to Japanese infrastructure than the atomic bombs (Hanson 60). The decision and execution of these attacks by General Lemay contributed to the overall success of the pacific campaign. The changes that General Lemay made to the XXI Bomber Command created more victories for the Americans with a lower casualty rate. These victories can also be attributed to the success of air power at the tactical, operational, and strategic levels of war. Prior to General Lemay s control of the XXI Bomber Command, Brigadier General Haywood S. Hansell Jr. was conducting high altitude bombing campaigns on Japanese infrastructure. The bombing command had a solid foundation with its safe base infrastructure, tactics, and organization of command. B 29s stationed at bases in Guam, Tinian, Saipan and Iwo Jima were being more well constructed leading to less problems during air raids. With better aircraft, missions could have fewer issues occurring leading to higher success rates. The major setback that aircrafts were having was the weather. Because the bombers were at such high altitudes during their attacks it led to overheating of engines and other mission essential issues. Thunderstorms ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The United States of America is a land of great diversity and a nation built on equality. In order to explore religion and politics in America, we must first begin with our country s roots in 17th century Europe. At the time there was heavy conflict, over religion, involving the Catholics and the Protestants of England. They were two different religions, but they shared a common belief. Both shared the principle that there should be one religion, everyone should be forced to follow it, and that government should enforce it. All was still not equal when it came to religion. So how then were we any different than England? We were no different, pure and simple. Religion was such a hot button that a person could be executed for following the wrong one, depending on your geographical location in the colonies. Violence was not in short supply, as religious differences led to much bloodshed. Definitely not the sunshine lollipops and rainbows version of our nation s history, as it is painted for us in primary school. In New York City, on July 12, 1871, violence erupted between Catholics and Protestants. It lead to the death of 62 colonists, and another 100 were injured. Theses riots, the Orange Riots, were a prime example of how little progress we had made toward religious freedom in the colonies. What subject could lead to such violence? Why it was all about the Bible in Public Schools, of course. Colonists were discriminated against, tortured and executed all under the umbrella of religious differences. Aside from the violence, religion elicited in colonial times, civil rights were also not what they are today. Laws were passed over the next several decades, to prevent Catholics from owning anything, worshiping, and educating their young. We were an intolerant group, it would seem, ... This is supported by the idea that those Chinese born in America are considered ghosts: They would not tell us children because we had been born among ghosts, were taught by ghosts, and were ourselves ghost like. They called us a kind of ghost. Ghosts are noisy and full of air; they talk during meals. They talk about everything (183 84). Even one generation makes this difference. The mysterious Chinese name given to the assimilated Chinese by the new immigrants is Ho Chi Kuei (204), which Kingston is unable to translate in full (further demonstrating her assimilation) but Kuei she knows means Ghosts . • 21. The Adventrue of Hucleberry Fin by Mark Twain The classic novel Huckleberry Fin, by Mark Twain, has been debated of being appropriate or not due to the racist content within. Many disagree with Mark Twain s use of derogatory terms and phrases such as the word Nigger in his book. IT seems unlikely that anyone, of any color, who had actually read Huckleberry Fin...could accuse of it being racist (Kaplan 20). Huckleberry Fin uses necessary racism in order to show the culture and attributes of the time period as well as to portray Twains message of promoting equality and that they are not morally better if they are one race over another. What is now seen as racism was simply the culture and attributes during the time setting of the novel (Toltzman 1). Huck Fin was written when cruel and unjust treatments of blacks were common and use of derogatory words didn t get much attention. Huck Finn is during a time when blacks were not treated or thought as people but as objects without personalities or emotions. For instance, Jim is initially only knows to whose property he is. He was considered Miss Watson property that was about to be sold, which resulted in him running away. The racist attitudes of the South are were most obvious in the character of Huck Finn himself, and how he relates to the runaway slave, Jim. He plays tricks on Jim and uses dialogue that makes him appear foolish or perhaps to make Jim painfully aware of his own belittlement. During their entire journey Huck and Jim become closer. Having too many stocks can be caused by buying in bulks because it makes the products cheaper but escalates the risk of not selling the products. • 23. Symptoms And Treatment Of Skin When asked about their major illnesses, the client stated to have hypertension, severe dyspnea, and edema. The client also stated that she suffered from a heart attack in the past, which was due to high blood pressure. Many of the client s problems branched off from the heart attack and hypertension. For example, a heart attack and high blood pressure can cause heart failure, heart failure can cause pulmonary edema, and pulmonary edema can lead to swelling of the lower extremities and dyspnea (Grossman Porth, 2014). However, the most recent hospitalization for the client was due to severe edema, and trouble breathing. Severe edema is one of the major causes for impaired skin integrity. Skin integrity is defined as the state in which an individual s skin is at risk of being adversely altered (kloop, Storey, Bronstein, 2012). There are three major factors that can relate to client s skin alteration: decreased tissue perfusion, prolonged bed rest, and pulmonary edema. One factor that can cause impaired skin integrity is decreased tissue perfusion. Decreased tissue perfusion refers to decrease in oxygen resulting in failure to nourish tissues at the capillary level (Wilson, 2012). Reduced tissue perfusion causes the body to become distressed because it is not receiving enough oxygen. This causes the blood to shunt to the core of the body where the vital organs are located, such as the heart and the brain (Grossman Porth, 2014). Since the client suffered from ... • 24. The Life Of James Baldwin s Struggle For Sexual Performance James Baldwin survived as not an unusual figure; he existed as a black man in the mid twentieth century disgruntled with the way America treated him. As much as he protested through his literary works and often times through recorded interviews, Baldwin frequently made the clear statement he is not the victim. In fact, he would go as far to say white people are the victims, although what they were victims of remained not as straight forward. The two main topics Baldwin favored writing on were race and sex. In the short story, Going to Meet the Man, the main character, Jesse, is dissatisfied with his sexual performance, or lack thereof, and is intrigued by the sexuality of black people. Did James Baldwin justify himself as the superior being and the white person as the victim in his own assumption which argued white people long to have the sexual capabilities of black people? Through his short story, Baldwin infers white people are inferior sexual performers; they are intrigued by the sexual capabilities of black people, and comforts himself by exposing an example of white lack of superiority. In the opening of Going to Meet the Man, Baldwin constructs his presentation displaying the limited sexual abilities of the white man. Murder, as defined by Oxford Dictionaries, is the unlawful premeditated killing of one human being by another. Many simply define it as taking someone else s life. In Macbeth, William Shakespeare illustrates the many forms of murder and establishes how it is wrong. One of the more interesting parts of this way of death is the motive, or reason, people choose to murder one another. She awaited being sentenced and eventually death, but luck would be on her side. When Margaret was supposed to stand trial in her own defense she suffered from a physical illness. • 42. What Is Privacy Or Improper Use Of Privacy Concerns about privacy emerge when use of cellphones or improper use of social media gets out of hand. Based on the article by Nancy Spector and Dawn M. Kappel, breach of privacy or confidentiality against patients are the most egregious errors that nurses can make when posting on social media (Spector Kappel, 2012). All patient information must be kept confidential because everyone has the right to be treated with both dignity and respect. Any violation of a patient s privacy whether intentional or unintentional is a serious act that must be addressed immediately. It does not only damage the nurse s credibility and relationship with the patient, but also affects the overall quality of care given. Additionally, nurses and other healthcare professionals may face disciplinary action, drastic consequences, and/or legal charges once held accountable. I have decided to pick scenario #3 as my scenario ending. It describes how I went on Facebook during my day off and talked about the night when I had to work and did not really feel as bad because I personally met the lead singer Jerod from the concert that I had missed. After taking his photograph, I carelessly posted his picture on Facebook and Instagram thinking that no one would recognize him in the first place. Not realizing the consequences of my actions, I would find, in retrospect, that I was sightless of the possible harm that I m about to inflict on my patient. The dangers of using Facebook and/or other social media ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Low Voter Turnout Essay As the decline in voter turnout affects Canada and most western democracies, there is an increasing urgency to find a solution to this trend. This paper will evaluate whether civic education is indeed a solution to the trend, in hopes of re engaging citizens. I would argue that civic education is a crucial measure to be taken in order to inform and mobilize voters. It is said, without question, that a politically savvy population is more inclined to engage in political participation. However, believing that civic education alone is the silver bullet solution to declining voter turnout is overly optimistic. Why is low voter turnout a concern? Simply put, non participatory citizens are disengaged from an important aspect of political life. One s decision to to participate can be linked to several issues. The concern facing the pattern of disengagement is that it lowers our collective ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the reality one faces when observing the outcome of such an initiative proves that it is not so cut and dry. Civic education in Canada has been met with a number of challenges. One primary issue is the lack of parity. As stated in Canada s Constitution Act of 1867, there is no federal department of education and no integrated national system of education. Therefore, in each province, the legislature makes education laws exclusively. They are therefore responsible for the organization, delivery and assessment of education at the elementary, secondary and even postsecondary level. Moreover, it is difficult to immediately assess the impact of civic education on voter turnout. This is mainly because the majority of students who take civic education are not yet of voting age. Therefore, the benefits of civic education can only be evaluated objectively at a later ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Birthmark By Nathaniel Hawthorne Rawan Jabr Professor Stafford English 102 November 9th 2014 Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Birthmark The Birthmark is a short story authored by Nathaniel Hawthorne and published in 1848. The story is about Aylmer, a brilliant scientist who is obsessed with science and is planning to use his experiments to remove a birthmark on the face of his wife Georgiana. Aylmer s love for science made him yearn to obtain control of the entire divinity. His wife was among his victims of science that was stronger in him than the love he had for Georgiana. Aylmer became blind to science to the extent that he could not realize that he was damaging his wife and putting his marriage at risk. It examines the obsession with science and human perfection that often cause problems if not controlled as seen in the story. Hawthorne s aim with this tale was to warn its readers regarding the dangers of science and knowledge with the story, and this is analyzed below. Ronald Davis, Barbara Eckstein, Liz Rosenberg, Jerry A. Herndon, and Jeffrey Howard, are among the authors who have analyzed Nathaniel s work The Birthmark. In an article titled Science and Technology in the Birthmark, Ronald agreed by the fact that The Birthmark is a story with several warnings. He identifies the main catalysts in the story as unnatural obsession with technology and science by Aylmer, who is the main character. • 47. The Value Of Loyalty In The Odyssey By Homer Loyalty is one of the important factors that influences people because loyalty provides stability for any long lasting relationship. In The Odyssey, an epic poem by Homer, Penelope shows us the value of loyalty because she is hopeful that her husband will come back, and she does not want to marry anyone who is not him. Penelope is a good example of loyalty in The Odyssey because she proves her loyalty several times. When Odysseus is gone suitors began to throw themselves at her, and they would do anything to get to marry her. Since she was a queen, Penelope would have been expected to marry after her spouce died but she stayed true to her husband, Odysseus, by coming up with excuses not to marry the suitors until she knew for sure that he was dead. To avoid choosing a suitor to marry she said that she would chose a husband as soon as she finished weaving a shroud for her father in law, Laertes, even though he was not sick or ready to die yet. Everyday she would show them the progress that she had made weaving the shroud, but every night before she went to bed she would unweave all of her work and start over the next day so that the shroud would never be finished. Her very words,/ and despite our pride and passion we believed her./ So by day she d weave at her great and growing web / by night, by the light of the torches set beside her,/ she would unravel all she d done. Three whole years/ she deceived us blind, seduced us with this scheme.../ we caught her in the act... she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
